Clean pools. Good food. Friendly staff except front desk. When the cartel violence occurred we were ordered by front desk to pay an extra $2000 or leave the hotel. Very scary. Still waiting to get our money back

Very impressed with the Canto Del Sol. This is an older resort but is very well maintained. Staff are phenomenal. Food is amazing. This was our 3rd stay here and we can't wait to come back for number 4.

I've always liked this resort as it was a smaller more quaint resort which use to cater to the 50+ demographic with most vacationers coming from Canada and the colder/northern states of the USA. Not anymore. I'd estimate that 10% of the guests at the resort fell into that category with the other 90% being locals on Family vacations and getaways. If you like unorganized lineups for everything then this is the place for you. Line ups to check in and out. Line ups to book a la carte specialty restaurants. Line ups at the buffet after you've lined up to get into the only dining area. Line ups at the bars which only one of 3 opened at 10am (the other 2 at noon) and one bar stayed open til midnight and the other 2 closed at 10pm. Minimal nightly entertainment and virtually all in Spanish. If you are an early riser don't plan on getting a coffee until 6:30am when you can get it out of 2 urns stationed at the pool bar and entrance to the restaurant. There are no coffee makers in the rooms nor is there a fridge. There is not one page of literature in the room to advise you of contact numbers, activity times, itinerary, TV channels etc. NOTHING!! The only really good things I can say about this resort is that the food is quite good, the place is impeccably clean and the housekeeping was very good. It is also only a 30 min walk to the Malecon. This will definitely be my last time here and I would never recommend it to anyone without warning.

Staff were friendly and very helpful. Food outstanding. Clean,clean,clean. Good entertainment. Pools were good. Other than being moved from our room because of a flood and having to move again three days later all was good.

This is my second time at this resort and we really like it. It is a smaller resort but everyone is friendly. It is very clean and beautiful. The beach is a little rough with rocks at the time of year we went. (Dec 28 - Jan 4). The A La Carte's are amazing and the buffet food is good as well.

Hotel is old but fully upgraded with great shower facilities in each room.Guests must expect a short walk across to the Canto del Sol for great pool,food and the beach.Very easy.Staff is unbelievably helpful and happy to look after you.Recommend the steak seafood restaurant as I booked Twice .Wonderful.Location of hotel is great as only 10 pesos on bus to downtown a short 10 to 15 minute ride.On main street out front you will find Blake's Sports Bar with great food and all the hockey,football and sport u wish to watch.Also here you will find great live music 3 Days of the week and I mean GREAT MUSIC.The new owner a Winnipeg girl Meaghan treats you like gold.Great Hotel and location

This is an older hotel but most rooms have been renovated. The hotel was very clean and the staff very pleasant. The food was really good with the buffets and 3 a la carte dining rooms available to us via the sister hotel Canto del Sol across the street. Would highly recommend this hotel - will be going back again next year!!! George & Karen

An older 3 star resort, the room entry/closet/bathroom is strange design. Small TV. Having full access to the 4 star sister across the court/street makes it good value for the money, $950 Canadian (we booked 2 days before). The customers were mostly older couples the mid March week we were there. A few cloudy days but super warm, shorts only required even at night. The attached plaza has a number of shops, spas etc. I got $10 haircut there. Food was was good and always available. Surf and turf restaurant was excellent. Very scenic with the mountains around you. Cobble stone roads in the old downtown, a bit of bumpy road on the .60 cent bus rides.

We wanted a low-key week to relax and found it here. Close enough to small shops or a short taxi ride to downtown made it a good location. Everything was handy, with a smaller pool and restaurant than the main building, which suited us just fine. Upgrades to the very clean rooms are really nice, staff was EXCELLENT, and the daily entertainment was great. Because Villas Vallarta is just across a quiet street from Canto del Sol, we could go there for more activity if we wanted or to have access to the beach.

Villas Vallarta is a great mid budget hotel.Wonderful pool,restaurant and rooms very clean for an older hotel.Most rooms have been upgraded with new bathroom showers ie:direct rain shower heads wonderful.Also with the use of the Canto Del Sol hotel it all makes for a great stay.I would highly recommend as I've stayed here numorous times.It is centrally located to downtown Puerto Vallarta only a short bus ride experience or a cheap cab.Book Villas Vallarta for a great stay.

We have stayed here before and will stay here again. Staff are friendly, rooms are comfortable and food is great. It is close to public transport. I consider it one of the best places to stay in Puerto Vallarta.

The resort was perfect, I love the people very peripheral, it was clean the food was excellent I really can’t say anything bad about the hotel The only issue I had was that the flight were delayed going to Mexico and coming from Mexico The hotel was 15 min walk from the downtown, walking distance to bank, shopping,and restaurant

This resort has been around for a while and it is one that I would highly recommend. It is well run and well maintained. It is good value for the money. The staff are friendly and the food is good. It is a short taxi ride into the old town of PV. The only knock is that they need more elevators. Then, of course there is the big "time share" thing that seems to plague every resort down in Mexico. So sad!

We really had a good time at the resort. The location is close to downtown PV, so we were able to walk, bus or taxi and explore. We took some small bus trips to Sayulita and Punta de Mita as well. The food was ok, with some great fish and shrimp tacos, but wasn't amazing. Lots of fresh fruit and veg and fish if you are trying to eat healthily. We liked the size of the resort, not too big, but areas to explore. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were happy, and they were always polite and helpful.

We had not been to Puerto Vallarta before and were looking for an inexpensive but decent all-inclusive. This one fit the bill since we were happy with the meals (excellent 'a la carte' dinners), the rooms were adequate (not palatial), there was a tennis court, exercise room, 3 pools, activities if you were interested (Spanish lessons, kayaking, water exercises, dance lessons, etc.) and very good evening entertainment. The best thing about it was the pleasant staff - no request was too big or too small and every single staff member you met in the resort would give you a smile and an 'Ola!'. It was in a good location for banks, groceries, small stores, larger shopping mall and the Malecon - all within walking distance but if you aren't up to a good walk, it didn't cost more than 80 MXN for a taxi to the Marina or Malecon. Be prepared to walk as some of the rooms are quite a ways from the front desk (which we liked-quieter and more privacy) The bigger hotel we had access to was beachfront, so it was easy to get to the beach as well. All-round, a good place to be for a relaxing, easy time.

The resort was old and needs an upgrade. Surprized that 80% of the guests were seniors. I guess this is what a 3 rating provides. Glad the restaurants were at Canto Del Sol. We needed an upgrade just to get a fridge for water. Two small bottles of water provided every 3 days is a waste. We had to purchase our own at Mega. The bed was on four large wheels and would roll back and forth when ever you moved. They were doing a major renovation in the room next door and was noisy all day. The pool area was nice and liked the bar. The Sunwing representative did his best to get us a better room.

We slept at Villas Vallarta and ate and played at Canto del Sol, which is across the road. Our room was basic and was in need of major updating. Since we only slept there we didn't care, it was clean though and maids did a great job. They have some updated rooms at villas but we didn't see any. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and smiling all the time. The facilities at Canto del Sol were fairly new well maintained and clean and they have two pools and indoor and outdoor tennis courts, the Villas have one small pool. The pools at Canto del Sol were excellent. The beach is narrow and brown sand and hard to walk through. The resort is off an 8 lane highway with no speed limits, the side walks in places are quite narrow and broken up so care must be taken when walking because vehicles are travelling various speeds and close to the sidewalk. The local bus service can be caught just outside the resort and is 7.5 pesos, which is about 60 cents canadian, a good deal. All in all we enjoyed our week there and provided you were not born with a silver spoon you will enjoy yourself.

Clean, quiet, good food, family friendly. Large rooms! Great staff, very accommodating! Staff always reminding us that they're there to make sure we're happy! Our second visit and we'll go back again!

We stayed at Villas by Canto del Sol on an all inclusive package. It allowed us full access to Canto del Sol. The grounds were immaculate and very pretty at Canto Del Sol. The service was excellent. The employees exemplified a true sense of pride. The food was good and they are always looking for suggestions from the guests. The buffet had theme nights. The have 2 al la carte restaurants and we enjoyed both meals. We upgraded our room to a pool front at the Villas. It is an older building in need of repairs. However we were happy with our room and it was cleaned daily. The pool at the Villa was much quieter for those who like that. There was never many people at this pool. There is a bar there. Overall we had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend it. We have never returned to a previous resort, however, we plan on returning here

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay at Canto Del Sol. We came for 5 days in the end of November. The weather was beautiful, the hotel was very clean and everybody was super nice! Our room was right by the pool, so it was loud and the food wasn't the best. Location was perfect! 10 minute walk from downtown, 20 minute walk from the Marina!

My overall rating is good however, we originaly booked accros the street at the villas canto del sol and I was not impressed with the facilities, it was quit disapointing that the overall look of the building was very old and dark it needs alot of maintenance and remodelation. The receptionist wa able to give a room at Canto del sol near the beach and I really liked the resort, everybody was very friendly and they had excellent service.

We have been to this hotel 7 times and it keeps getting better.The food was great ,room was comfortable ,Staff always had a smile and very helpful Close to the boardwalk with lots to do.Best snack bar with many choices.

This is our 3rd time to this resort within the last 10 years. We travelled as a family of 3 and enjoyed our stay. This resort is a very quiet and laid back .. pure relaxation. This hotel is approx. 15 minute bus ride from the airport and you very close to all attractions. Lots to see and all within walking distance. One of us is a smoker and now that the smoking laws have changed in Mexico there was no smoking inside the hotel at all (rooms or balconies) .. Small section near the pool and outside the front doors.. This is truly a blessing for the non-smokers. Only meal served at the Villa is breakfast and bar is only opened from noon until 6 pm. All other meals and a la carte's are across the court at Canto De Sol .. the beach is also at Canto .. a very short walk and not too far out of your way. You have full access to Canto. Rooms at the Villa are a little outdated but are very clean. Most all rooms come with a kitchenette . Beneficial to us as we like cool drinks and could always have cold water on hand. Pool at the Villa is very nice and never full .. During our week maximum in the pool at the same time was 4 - 5 people .. Meals were good .. Buffet - standard with a large variety of dishes. Beach grill is open from noon to mid-night and have many items .. Cowboy burgers and hot wings were very tasty. They even have sushi at the beach grill. A La Carte's: 1. Italian - inside restaurant. Very, very good .. In our opinion this was the best one.. Staff very nice and efficient .. We all tried something different and tasted one another's meals and desserts .. All very tastey 2. Mexican - inside restaurant .. This was nice too .. wide variety of Mexican dishes and desserts and this restaurant would also go to the grill and have steaks grilled for you if you wished to have that instead of Mexican food. 3. Grill/Seafood - outside restaurant .. this was set up near the beach .. Very nice but we were not too happy with all the birds (not the resorts issue as they cannot control that) .. We each order a different type of steak and they were grilled exactly how we liked. Quite a few choices to be had on this menu as well. If you are travelling with small children (who go to bed early) this would be the best resort to stay at as it is very low keyed and quiet. If you have issues with walking, I would recommend that you stay at the Canto as you would be close to all restaurants, bars and the pool is a nice size there too , Just that pool at the Canto is very busy all day long.

The location of everything was the best, and you couldn't get better service. The staff couldn't do enough. It was close to everything great walks on the beach. Clean the rooms were in perfect condition, the Maids were fantastic. Lots of different foods, to choose from , breakfast lunch and dinner. Location for walking into town, and other restaurant, never needed a cab. would go back in a second with out hesitation.

Over 20 times to PV, at least 5 times to Canto/and/or Villas. Last year seemed to be the start of improvements, and more this year.. The buffet is better, the Monday night Mirachi bands were terrific,as was the dance band another night. Staff are always very accommodating, and everything is always clean.For the price we pay it is excellent. ,
