This hotel needs some upgrade elevators not working and washrooms at pool and lobby inop needs attention. Food good but was cold on buffett . Worker very happy and pleasant . Hotel 28 years old needs updated

This hotel is not a 4 star. It’s a 2 star. Elevators never worked. Have to use stairs. 10 minutes walk to the beach..If you need the bathroom when you are at the beach you have to walk 6 minutes to pool bathroom which is never working. So you have to go to the lobby washroom which is always broken and never any toilet paper. The hotel has no one to supervise cleaning in the building . The bathtub in the bedroom is disgusting. Food in buffet are always cold. To get the bus 10 minutes walk. If you have a mobility problem don’t go there. Not worth the money. Hotel needs total renovation.

I have to start with saying that Cuba is going thru some hard times and unfortunately it shows. I have been to this resort many times in the past and I have to be honest, I have seen a decline in the place. It is in desperate need of an up date. The grounds are beautiful but the rooms need a lot of work. in the many times that we have been to this resort, this was a bit of a disappointment. Again, I have to reiterate that Cuba is falling on hard times so this is not in any way the fault of theirs. The people that work there are the most nicest safest people you will ever want to meet. For all that they are going thru you would never tell. They are still so very friendly, loving and safest to be around. Love the Cuban people

The positive reviews about the food have to be fake. I've been to Cuba 10 times, different resort every time. Not a picky eater at all but the food here was by far the worst. This is a 2.5 star resort. The staff is amazing, beach is amazing, resort is kind of old but everything works fine, decent wifi. But man the food is atrocious. Have a huge breakfast because lunch and dinner is not edible.

I’ve been to Cuba over 15 times, and this is by far the worst resort I’ve ever stayed at. I strongly recommend not going here. The food was horrendous, and there were cockroaches throughout the resort. I will definitely return to Cuba, but I would never come back to this resort. An absolutely horrible experience.

Beach is awesome ! but the rest leaves a lot to be desired, For three days no working elevator so up the stairs to the fifth floor ! No vodka and very low end rum. The bathtub was completely stained with what I don't know. This used to be a nice place, but now it;s been abandoned and neglected !

Beach is very good. In the afternoon you have a beach to yourself! Beautiful! Beach chairs beyond dirty. I don’t understand why! They have staff and water! Pool chair are new. Towel new/microfibre ! Very good. Pool was dissent. Not crowded. Food was ok. Real eggs and pancakes, fruit, in the morning, simple lunch. and dinner fish on grill couple of times, shrimps on grill one night and chicken was most often. Salat choices very simple. Same with deserts. But it is all understandable, it is Cuba. Room were the most disappointing, actually bathroom. It was broken, scratched, broken doors, like a correctional institution. It made me feel very uncomfortable. Sun-wing needs to check where they send customers. Lobby was stuffy, no air circulation. They made effort to have nice live music every evening and shows at night. We payed $1000 with luggage, Sun Wing charged extra for luggage. Not worth it. It is supposed to be around $800 for quality.

First of all I have to acknowledge how beautiful the beach was. That was certainly the highlight of the trip for sure. Clear water white sands; it was just beautiful. We spent hours down at the beach. Ok now the hotel itself. It’s very old and probably should be torn down and a new one built. The paint was peeling and everywhere you looked it was very dirty. The rooms were very basic which was fine but the bed was very uncomfortable and I could feel the springs in my back The bathroom was very run down. The door didn’t shut as the frame isn’t aligned properly anymore. The bathtub is stained and dirty looking. Anytime the person above would shower you could hear the dripping on the metal ceiling above. Eventually it would drip down into our tub. It wasn’t just our tub it was all the rooms our friends stayed in as well. They were all the same. Multiple times the hotel was without water. Sometimes in the middle of a shower. The walk to our hotel room faced the back where they must have kept all the garbage so it smelled horrible and there was constant sounds of trucks pulling in and out. It made the walk to and from the room nauseating. The pool was in need of desperate repair as all the tiles are coming off the bottom. When you would walk they would come off and float to the surface. The other half of the pool was closed and empty for multiple days so the only option was the shallow pool. It was warm as bath water and not refreshing, with no shade at all. The chairs around the pool were set up in a place where they had the sewer vents so there was a constant smell of sewer most likely when toilets were flushed. The food available was bare minimum and very little selection. I found myself eating the same things everyday. We were so excited to see chicken nuggets the day before we left. Not very good ones but excited to see something different for once. I know the food in Cuba isn’t the greatest but this was terrible. Although, the restaurants we had to reserve were lovely and the service was great. We enjoyed the Romantica and the Peperone. There were a lot of locals at the hotel on the weekend and staff seemed to cater to them. We were all identified by the colour of our bracelets so they knew where we were from. Canadians were orange, Russians were turquoise, Cubans were blue. We were constantly left waiting or ignored when trying to order drinks at the bar or coffee in the morning. The beach bar was completely different. The bartenders were always nice and accommodating. I was disappointed in the drink selection. Very minimal. The beer was really good though. The smoothy bar that was on the website with this amazing menu was nothing other than a lady in hut with some guava and if you were lucky maybe a mango or a pineapple depending on the day. They were served warm. So was not refreshing at all. The evening snack bar available at night was nothing other than bread with very thin cheese which we waited over 30 minutes for 1 night. I do have a few photos of conditions and a video of the shower. The photos online definitely paint a different picture and are very misleading as to the actual experience itself. It definitely makes me appreciate Canada so much more and I couldn’t wait to come home. We also did our homework and looked at the ratings and read the reviews. But I think all the locals must review the hotel. There was one person who did stand out and went above and beyond. He was the little waiter who was also a magician. He was a delight to be around and we always tried to sit in his section.

The pool And beach were very nice. Disappointed that the elevator was out of service during our stay. Upon registration asked about an accessible room due to recent knee surgery and was told they had no accessible rooms. That should be noted in their advertisements.

The Resort is older and it needs updating, the staff are all awesome and make the best with limited resources. The room was cleaned when required the maid was good at giving us what we needed. The pool was ok it could also use some updating. The Beach is why we came here it was amazing, easy to swim in soft white sand . The weather was 34c everyday and we had no rain.

This was our 7th time visiting this incredible all-inclusive resort in Cuba, and once again, it did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism. We upgraded to Elite and were on the fifth floor with an ocean view. Our room was very clean, spacious and everything was in working order. Our floor had access to a room that provided a variety of food and beverages from 7 am to 7 pm. The girls that worked there were so very friendly and helpful. The rest of the hotel was well laid out and the grounds were beautiful. There were no food issues as we expected there to be some so we were very pleased. There was no bacon but they did have ham, and the omelettes were good. If you were looking for a delicious barbecue burger, Norberto made them daily by the beach. The beach was why we came and it was absolutely beautiful! The staff went above and beyond to please us and had a special cocktail party for the Canadians.

Some rooms not used , hotel was not at full capacity. Food was plentiful and drinks were good . Staff is friendly and rooms were clean . We did move from the first room as it was very run down and musty but second room was good

The hotel is as advertised. Older and has a few bumps and bruises. It is clean and has all the convinces that I would expect from a resort. The check-in process was very efficient. My room was on the main floor in the hotel section. The main floor was on the 2nd level. With lobby and bar. The restaurants were on the 1st with the entrance to the pool and grounds. The rooms are great, the bathroom tired but clean and in working order, hot water for showering and the towels functionable but worn. I asked and received extra water and beer in the fridge as needed. The lobby bar and staff were wonderful, with nightly entertainment with a solo piano player, and solo singer with a guitar. The coffee's and rum were the best. The dining was adequate with the buffet having the best choice of food. I enjoyed the rice and beans with grilled fish. There was roast meat every day: pork, chicken or turkey. There were vegetables but the broccoli, carrots cauliflower were not fresh. Roast Pumkin and squash was the better choice. Eggs and omelettes, cereal, pancakes fresh bread and buns daily. Sorry no bacon. The ala cartes were not the best, food wise. The pool area was great with new loungers on the deck. The pool did have missing tiles, but was easy access and clean. The water was cool but comfortable. THE ONLY COMPLAINT WAS THE DAILY LOUD AND HEAD BANGING PARTY MUSIC. After several attempts to have them play a better choice was useless. The beach was the best. Wide, clean and great for walking but it was red flag days when I was there. December 12-17, 2024

We booked for a last minute 4 day get away and had never been to this resort before. The rating was 4.5 and the reviews proved to be correct ie. not a 4.5 that we are used to, but closer to a 4 or even a bit lower only because of the age of resort. The most important thing for us is that the facility is clean and it definitely was. It was older and some parts of the room(6301-would recommend btw), were well worn, however this part of the hotel was very central to the pool, beach and the dining areas and quite honestly the front lobby. Loved the location of our room. Cuba is going through a crisis now(all the workers had 2-3 hours of electricity each day at their homes and lucky to have water). The staff were all incredible...everyone we encountered we polite, accommodating and were there to ensure your stay was pleasant. We knew the food shortages going on due to supply issues so we arrived with our eyes wide open. The resort had no wine for a few days, but some arrived after day 2. You will not get name brand expensive liquor here, and if you like a lean mean mohito, you will need to visit Juan by the pool bar. This was the only place I could get soda was as well. The expressos and americanos at the main lobby were incredible. Night life was good and good events planned throughout the day. Cuban day was my favourite with authentic food being served. St. Patricks day was fun and we were happy we brought some fun stuff to share with the staff. We tipped alot and this was soooo appreciated. We normally come back from an all inclusive weighing 10 lbs more(lol), from eating so much, however, this time we ate in moderation as there weren't a whole bunch of food selections. Desserts were limited but the ice cream they had was good! Good fruit throughout the day and options to have fried eggs, omelettes, chicken, pork or beef cooked in front of you, were all available. Missed seeing the flowers on the grounds as they lacked the availability of water and the grounds were very dry. Robyn at Trip Central did a great job preparing us for our trip. Not too impressed with Sunwing making us wait one hour on the plane before departure from Toronto and then when we arrived, over an hour on the bus and they were still waiting for 3 more flights to arrive. We decided with another couple to get a taxi (cost $40 US) total and I know we arrived at least 1.5 hours before everyone else!

Perfect vacation. Lots of good food. Beach was great and night shows were good. Service was excellent. The grounds were beautiful. Lots of lounge chairs around the pool and the beach so didn't have to get up early to get one.

My partner and I decided last minute to find a resort with a beautiful beach and the Melia Las Antilles did not disappoint. It was one of the most beautiful beaches we have spent time on. As for the property itself the overall quality and experience was disappointing. Our room was underwhelming, very tired, and required a great deal of work. The tub and shower was unbelievably small and rusted , it needed a paint job and the musty smell was a continual issue. Our room key did not work on 7 separate occasions which required a trip to the front desk lobby. The staff at the front desk were not always friendly and accommodating. We know not to expect much from the food in Cuba but the lineups for breakfast to get eggs was unacceptable and poorly organized and laid out. Roberto the restaurant manager who greeted people every day was lovely, approachable and very apologetic. As for the drink selection… over the week we were at our all inclusive, on the first day they ran out of vodka, second day white wine and third day champagne to be followed with a day of no dark rum. This was extremely disappointing and does not reflect what one would expect from an all inclusive. One redeeming factor was the lobby bar which consistently offered us fabulous service and fabulous cappuccinos. Another redeeming quality was the entertainment. They made a conscious effort to provide variety and engaging entertainment. Although the beach was amazing for the many reasons listed above we will not be returning to this resort.

The resort was perfect the staff were friendly and very helpful. We had the best time. The service was amazing! Very impressed with Kenia who walked the resort many times during the day. She always chatted and asked us about our day. Very attentive staff wherever we went. The entertainment staff was amazing and had lots of fun activities and great music and shows. We would definitely return ?

Flight uneventful,really liked that we could fly out of Kitchener. Since flight was not full we could have a middle seat between us ( bonus ) Transfer to hotel quick and very organized. Hotel ,dated but clean. Room supersaver was a ground floor room facing garden. Room A/ C worked to well,couldn't adjust temperature,but better than too warm. Good food,plenty to eat,somewhat repetitive but as usual for a buffet. Tried 2 alacarte Italian & romantic both very good,excellent service. Drinks ok Pina Colada - terrible !! Mix poured over ice with rum. No red wine for a few days. No cola for a few days Weather 2 days of red flag beach ( jelly fish & high waves ) Life guard kept busy trying to get people to stay out of water !! Nice beach,nice for long walks. Hop on Off bus great. Tip: There is a small restaurant & shop down the street and across the road( at the water) Rum considerably cheaper than hotel or in town. Also large container of natural honey much cheaper. $ in U.S. By cash or credit. Overall nice area. Very touristy and busy ( for our liking )

the resort is average size with great grounds lovely pools even the shark is good. The food was really good and better than most the only shortage was potatoes and still had them. the staff is the reason we keep going back. the rooms are a bit dated but only was there to sleep and change. They were clean and kept that way for our 2 week stay.Be back next year

We really enjoyed this resort. The beach was stunning. We walked for hours each direction every day. The food and drinks were Soo good!! Make sure you have a bloody marry from the beach bar , and the mojitos were delicious! We didn’t have a chance To do any of the alacart restaurants but the buffet was really good. Their fresh buns were to die for. They also had this fried chicken that was sooo good , and beef Wellington one night ! The staff here are all amazing. Very helpful. Make sure you tip these people !!,, they work long hours. I think the only thing we didn’t enjoy about the resort is the sharks , they have 3 sharks they keep in this gross smoggy stinky pond. Doesn’t seem very humane.

Very nice resort. A little dated , needs a bit of work in some areas .Rooms were clean , maid service was good. All the staff were very friendly. Always a smile and a greeting. We thought the food was good. We are not picky eaters but we were happy with food. The A la Cartes were very good. Our favorite was the Italian. Gorgeous beach and pool area very nice. We would recommend this Resort.

This was wonderful. Food was repetitive but GOOD. Restaurants on the resort were GREAT. the rooms are outdated but large and the grounds are beautiful! Perfect if you love enjoying the beach and pool.

This is our fourth trip to Cuba. Just returned home from Melia Las Antillas (Sept 7-14/23). We arrived at the resort between 10:30 - 11:00 am on 7th of Sept. Front desk staff was very friendly and welcoming. The lovely woman explained that rooms were being cleaned and instructed us to leave our luggage in the front lobby while we went to the buffet, had something to eat and got familiar with the property. We returned at 3:30 as instructed only to be told that our rooms were still not ready. We waited in the lobby until about 4:30 before we were assigned our rooms -3203, 3325, 3327. (Joanne, UK, as you mentioned in your review the condom is still there at 3203). Rooms- VERY dated and in desperate need of fresh paint and new furniture. The maids did their very best cleaning and tidying daily. Fresh towels and 2 bottles of water were replenished daily. We left a 5.00 tip (Canadian) daily. Bathroom - Bathtub looks like it fell off the Titanic. The glaze finish is all but gone. There is a large soap holder attached to the middle of the shower wall that impedes your struggle with not having the shower curtain get stuck to your body as your shower. The shower faucet was loosely attached to the wall. Toilet flushed well and there was a bidet for your use as well. The hair dryer was falling off the wall and wasn't much stronger than a breath of wind. Sleeping area - there are no electrical outlets near the head of the bed for those of you with CPAP machines. We asked for an extension cord and were told basically to turn the mattress around and place the CPAP machine on a chair which could reach an outlet nearby. (You will need a universal wall adapter). We slept upside down (feet at headboard) for the duration of our stay. We brought some skirt and short hangers and some plastic hangers from home which came in really handy. In room safe - worked just fine for storing our valuables. Buffet - Pretty impressed the first day but became very repetitive quickly. Same foods offered at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some days there was no butter, no bread for toast, bland fruit choices, absolutely no tomatoes, lettuce, carrots or vegetables period. Our main staple daily was carb related - pasta, (hot and cold), rice, potatoes. There were some meats choices - beef, pork, chicken but we were leery about the way they are cooked and stored. We did bring KETCHUP, HOT SAUCE, MUSTARD, RELISH, SALT, PEPPER, PEANUT BUTTER, JAM, CHIPS, CEREAL BARS and licorice which came in extremely handy! (Also, don't forget your Imodium, aspirins, etc) which became very helpful to have. The Buffet Grill exhaust fan was not working a few times which quickly lead to a smoke filled room. Doors were opened to help the situation but it did not help. It was not pleasant. The A La Carte Restaurants were all a very nice change from the monotonous choices at the buffet for dinner. Thank you Daylis for making the reservations for us. It was much appreciated. (By the way, they did not enforce the mens dress code -long pants - perhaps because it was so darn hot and humid - even in the evening). Be careful going into the ladies washroom close to the buffet. Only one of four toilets had toilet paper. Again, no soap, no paper towels. Pool - It was no fault of the resorts but the pool water was about 90 degrees - like a warm bath at best - due to the 100 degree temperature. One side of the large pool has a encircling river of water which stinks to high heaven of polluted wastewater - especially when they turn on the three waterfall ornaments at the one end. The smell was so disgusting that the sun lounging chairs around that side were always empty. The water in that area was stagnant, slimy and rancid. Those poor sharks and fish in there! In fact, the smell was so bad one day, my husband asked someone to turn off the fountains which they did. The other side of the pool which is adjacent to the bar and washrooms was much nicer however why they feel the need to blast the Spanish music at 9:00 am is beyond me. We were in the pool speaking to each other and we were shouting. They did lower the sound a few decibels when we asked them to. Speaking of which, the entertainment team worked very hard to make sure everyone had fun but I must say that the short female in the group (Sheila?) got annoying very quickly - we could hear her all the way to our rooms when we were getting ready for supper. I can only speak for the ladies pool washroom - only one of three sinks worked - the other two were broken. No hand soap. No paper towels. One of three toilets did not have a seat. The property is very large and there are many stairs to climb. They do have elevators however. Again, no fault of the resorts but the air was so humid and hot in the evening when we sat in the lobby after dinner. No ceiling fans anywhere. No breeze anywhere. Our wonderful server Ramon did his best to serve us but choices of liquor were very limited. Be careful buying the Cuban Pesos - if you purchase too many, you will be stuck with them. You cannot exchange them back for your currency. We gave tips in American and Canadian however we did purchase about 40.00 (Canadian) worth of Cuban pesos from the shuttle on the way to the resort. Better deal than buying them at the resort. We walked off the property one day and took the hop on hop off bus into Varadero (5.00 American each). The woman handing out the tickets asked for credit cards and we told her that was all we had and she accepted it. (I had read that when some people got home, they were charged two or three times on their credit cards). We also booked a tour of Havana with Alejandro (Cuban Compass Tours). This is the third time I booked Alejandro and once again he did not disappoint. He picked us up in a beautiful '56 Bel Air that was air conditioned. His driver was so accommodating as well. All in all, we managed to have a good time and make some fun memories. Cuba is in a very, very sad state of affairs and I pray that it gets better for the people.

The hotel itself is beautiful - the atmosphere, the beach, the pool. One issue was with the food - no condiments of any kind (salt, sugar, salad dressing, ketchup)...long line ups at the buffet on the days when eggs were available. The food selection was extremely poor and unrecognizable. The a la carte restaurants were much better. The bars often ran out of main ingredients. The Sunwing representative appeared at the hotel when it fit his schedule. More importantly, guests were categorized by their bracelets. Sunwing's orange bracelet made me feel like I was in steerage - blue bracelet people were given much more attention and service (they had paid for the bigger rooms). My first room smelled - it was dark (many broken lights, dirty)...took 3 days before they found me another room! The entertainment team was terrible - I didn't really see anyone throughout the week. The nightly shows were blah. Very few people were at the hotel and I know why. I've been to Cuba many times and never had an experience like this - definitely would not go back to this hotel ever!!

Hotel and staff were friendly and always helpful. Resort is a bit out dated but kept very clean with good upkeep. Food was good and well prepared everyday. The beach is amazingly beautiful, we spent everyday there. There is no swim up pool bar, but there is a bar right next to the pool. Also, there are not a lot of shade options at the pool.

The staff are extremely nice and friendly as we have always found while in Cuba. There were a few shortages but unfortunately this was expected due to Covid. We happen to be in Cuba on "Cuba Day" and a huge outdoor luncheon was happening with an abundance of food, drinks, dance and music. Not too many mixes for drinks and wine was only in the A la carte restaurants which was a bit of a disappointment. All in all a good time and love the size of the resort, it is not too big and not too small.

Visited in April 2023. I find that people have outsized expectations when a dollar is spent, but there is a reason that Cuba is a thousand dollar vacation and other islands and resorts are double and triple the cost. Flying out of London is brilliant and both the flight there and return were both bang on time and we even arrived early. A 2:50 flight to leave the cold and snow and find 30 degree temps is also brilliant. A mix-up at the airport waiting for someone who had a tough time in customs meant a delay in getting to the hotel but check-in was easy as was finding the way to a beverage, food, and the room itself. I did upgrade which included an extra night in a fancy restaurant, a lobster dinner, late checkout, a robe, a bottle of rum (500ml), and an ocean view. FYI, there are no ocean views- although you can kind of see it from the VIP Lounge on the 5th floor! I also received 70 hours of wi-fi and it actually worked the entoire week- the best wi-fi experience I have had in Cuba. The lobster dinner was also the extra night in the fancy which I do not think was explained well enough and was ambiguous at best. I also had to ask for both the rum and robe, but all good, the concierges were great. The other bonus was that all of the reservations for the fancy were made for me, and while I needed to change the times, that too was very simple. The lounge itself had snacks, drinks, books, and usually, someone hanging out. The beach was great as always, Varadero is known for it, and the ocean was warm and clear. We did have a red flag one day after what must have been an overnight storm that I did not hear- 5-foot rollers which were pretty cool, and the tide came up an extra 40 feet so there was some detritus on the beach for the next few days but it did make it easier to find shells if you like that! I walked down to Pardisus that day and saw how lucky Las Antillas was as we still had a beach to use- a few other resorts had water right up to the one row of loungers or their beach bars. While the lifeguards did not allow people to go in at our beach past the shins, further down it was fine as lifeguards were not present at other resorts. The music/fun could get a little loud if you stayed by the entrance to the beach, but if you moved down to the end, no issue at all. Volleyball every day at 11am but for one when only 2 of us showed up. It was the only extracurricular I participated in but the bocce was always full, paddle boats were going out, wind sailing, and of course, all those games around the pool. The restaurants; to me, the best was by the pool. The omelets in the morning, burgers in the afternoon and late evening (or early morning depending on how long you stayed at the disco/lobby bar). or the Cuban restaurant that needed reservations- which I did not find out until my last chit was used up, if I had known, I would have skipped Romantica and the Italian. I always found something at the buffet although I was surprised at the lack of choice of fruits. Breakfast was the usual- omelets or fresh cooked eggs if you wanted to wait, pancakes/french toast etc. Now that I write this, I realize that I did not go to the buffet for lunch at all! Desserts were always aplenty no matter the time of day, and even after the reservation restaurants, I went in to the buffet for desserts. One disappointment, in the Romantico...do NOT be tempted by the creme brulee. I do not think the French translates at all- no carmelized sugar, and the custard was just not good, more like a very cold flan than a brulee. The disco was so so- the dj was unspectacular and stuck on Mambo #5, Cher, and other 90s hits. It is only open from 11pm-1am. The lobby bar was great and open all night- a good view, excellent entertainment, and fast (for the islands) service. Same with the pool bar and the bar that was on the way to the beach but not on the beach. If you are looking for a party, this might not be the resort, although again, in my experience, Cuba might not be the place for that anyway. This was my fourth visit to Cuba and I will say that without exception, everywhere that I have been, the staff has always been great- Miguel at the disco, Yanet at the burger bar, etc...very nice people who will try their best. Overall, you could tell that the place had been closed during COVID- two years I was told, and they just reopened in November. Improvements are being made- paint, plantings, general maintenance, and they are even building a juice bar right by the pool. My shower had pressure, the bed actually made me want a new bed at home, the maid service was super as well. I would go back for sure as the price was definitely right (even with the single supplement). I know that people are talking about supply issues at the moment and I heard stories of places running out of beer and butter, but I did not see that at Las Antillas.

I don’t like to write negative reviews but I feel like I have to about this resort. The beach was amazing. The resort needs some upgrading but was very clean. The staff was awesome. However, there was no wine all week and very limited spirits. Very limited amounts of food. No butter nor milk for the first few days. The food was terrible. The ALa Cartes were terrible. Very limited variety of food. No pasta! We will not return.

The grounds, beaches and service was great. The food is terrible, I would rate it 5 out of 10. Most times you could not eat the meat it was so tough. There was never no pasta, no condiments, sometimes butter. No white wine. Was not worth waiting for A la carte's . Better to eat at buffet. Menu at the pool restaurant did not change all week. People should be told if they want condiments or peanut butter or jam to bring their own.

The hotel was very clean the service was amazing the food was good I good right a lot of thing but I will make it short and sweet it is a very nice resort and I will not think twice to go back so all I can say nice nice nice nice nice

Hotel a bit dated but clean and site well maintained. Beach is amazing, wide beach, white sand and no shortage of chairs. Good entertainment, they do organize very nice special events and shows for guests. Great concierge service when booking VIP, except the ocean view suites 4th floor do not offer a view of the ocean... Food shortage was worse than expected, very repetitive at buffet, no pasta, no milk, no shrimps, fries 1 night, minimal fruit and vegetable selection, no milk... There was no wine all week except for 2 nights at a la carte dinner only and no lobster at the included lobster dinner. The snackbar only offered pork burgers and sometimes chicken. Bring your wine, condiments and snacks. No issues with hotel but food shortages however is a big problem. Heard from other tourists on bus that food shortages where not as bad in other resorts. Would only go back knowing this is corrected.

We just got back from a fabulous and relaxing week at this resort. This was our 8th time in Cuba, so we knew what to expect concerning the hotels and food. This resort is tired and needs updating, especially the rooms and bathrooms, but it's clean, and the staff is friendly. I must say I was very impressed with the food and the buffet restaurant. There is a lot of variety and, in my opinion, something for everyone. The seafood paella and Cuban day BBQ were fantastic and so delicious. We were not impressed with the Cuban a la carte restaurant, so we didn't bother with the rest. The gym is small and stuffy, with very old equipment. The pool is clean, and the beach is stunning. The entertainment is ok, and the pool show is nicely done. Colon and Raul at the pool bar are excellent and so friendly. Wendy, Ana, Laura, Marilyn, Pavel and Cachito at the buffet were amazing. Lyonel at the front desk was great, checking us in and ensuring we were happy with our room. Robert, Ramon and the ladies at the outdoor lobby bar were outstanding. The animation team was a lot of fun. Canadians were hosted to appetizers and drinks the night before we left, which was very nice. We did find the beach lacked music. Most of the action happened around the pool. There was a shortage of wine, cava, and one day milk, but it's a problem at all Cuban resorts. Management does their best to accommodate you and are all very friendly. Overall it's excellent value, and remember you're in Cuba.

Grounds-well kept by Gardeners in the early morning. Public areas well kept and clean especially washrooms.ypu may find some plastic cups on the beach. Rooms well kept by maids but they lack upgraded and maintenance.example One evening we found a snake in our room which we believe came in patio door as maid may have left open.our room was ground floor next to woods. Also same evening we heard a crash and Ceiling let go above tub with large amounts of water coming down. Tried to call front desk but phone did not work. Food-we managed to find food to eat but remember they are going through a food shortage. So no oj,no bacon,no cola lite,no jams, Very little beef but good hamburgers but no condiments.no cheese.same desserts done in different shapes. Staff are incredible.sunwing rep not as good as last year's.ala cartes excellent. You do not need buffet after. Would we go back.yes if the price was right.

We had an amazing trip. The weather was fantastic 7 days not one drop of rain. This is our 6th time at this resort. We were very surprised at how well they are doing after Covid. Of course, things have changed and its tough to get some supplies. But the people are absolutely amazing. We can't say enough about the staff here at this hotel. In our experience the staff (Thank you! Reiner, Insley, Willam, Marta and so many more to name) bent over backwards to make our trip most memorable. The buffet restaurant “Los Tainos” had so much to offer. Even an open grill outside. The bread and deserts are always sooo delicious. The Cuba Day was fantastic, a lot of food to choose from. The dancers and interactions with the people are wonderful. Our room was spotless and very clean every day (Thank you Betsy). The beach is clean and beautiful. One of the reasons we love Cuba. The Bar Playa La Dunas and Barbeque down by the beach is great! Jorge who made the best Pina Coladas!!!! With fantastic music and smile on his face! Thank you so much! Also a thank you shout out to the gentlemen who work down at the beach and set up the chairs for us to have a wonderful clean place in the sun and shade. Yaine that big bright smile, hugs and also Insley, Ana, Ramone (Many more of course) who work so hard at the Piano Bar to keep those drinks coming. You made us feel so special. thankyou! We had the pleasure of going to two of the Al la cart restaurants. The El Romantico and Don Peperone (Italian, Mediterranean) was amazingly delicious. We had great meals at both of them. The return guest reception was amazing and wonderful to meet the people who feel the same way as we do about the resort. We keep coming back. Everyone does a great job making us feel special. We had so much fun with the Pool Side games at 4 pm. I so wish I could remember her name. So much energy, entertainment and many laughs. Thankyou Yariel, great sense of humor, patience and energy, who teaches the exercises in the pool to keep us fit also dance classes. The entertainment was great! The water show is amazing. They are amazing people, so much talent in the arts and they are happy and proud to take the time to explain anything they do there. We did miss our lunches, pizza (panarottis, and so much more) with Insley at the Don Peperone (didn't have it starting back up yet. Hoping they will have it in the future). It was our secret delicious lunch place to go to. Unfortunately for them, there was a small shortage of milk & butter, perfectly understandable since Covid has taken its toll on a lot of things. As for the money it has changed and a little confusing sometimes, since they got rid of the CUC, But if you do your research before you go you will not have a problem. I suggest to talk to people who have gone in the last 6 months. We always bring our insulated mugs and facecloths, chocolate, little gifts for the staff. They certainly appreciate everything. Remember this is Cuba and its not like Canada. Our experience was great as usual. Looking forward to next year! What can we say, We love to visit Cuba.

The grounds are massive and fairly well maintained for this resort. The pool was cold but clean. The resort itself is dated and could use some deep cleaning. The room had a comfy bed and was well kept by the cleaning staff. The door handle broke off in my hand but they were quick to fix it. The A/C is not very cold but it worked. The bathroom was dated with rust and broken tiles. The water pressure and temperature was good for Cuba. The food and drink selection was low supply (Likely Covid issue) One day there was wine and Pina Colada’s , the next none. No milk for the coffees on one morning. However the staff made it all worth while, warm, friendly and as kind as ever. It’s the people that made this holiday hood. I would have to think twice about going to this resort again.

The beach was amazing. Clean rooms but needs updating. Shower small, toilet didn't always flush, very dull lighting. Food was not great. Pretty much the same things for breakfast lunch and dinner. They ran out if another of things, napkins were toilet paper. Staff needs to stay on top of guests hoarding food in plastic bags. One morning 4 people from the same table took all the buns, cakes, squares and donuts!!! Wifi worked in our room the first 3 days then nothing.

The people in Cuba have changed they expect huge tips and expansive brand name gifts if you don’t get if for them you will see a difference in service after 14 years going to Melia las Antillas spoke my mind and i got blocked from the website they will never get my business again. Sadly one of the employees swore at me and harassed me for 3 days. Hotel management ignored my complaint very disappointed

My first time visiting Cuba and absolutely loved it!! The people are friendly and the beach is BEAUTIFUL. We decided to upgrade to the Junior Suite and were very happy we did!! It allowed us the privilege to meet and be greeted by Elizabeth (Concierge) who was absolutely amazing! We also had the opportunity to meet Naedelys (sp?) who was equally amazing! They take a lot of pride in their hotel :). They are always making sure your needs are being met, and that you are enjoying your vacation. The beach is incredible :) and the staff (Colon, Jorge, Luis and Yuniesky) are wonderful!! I met a few people who were vacationing that had left and came back within months!! Says a lot about their experience P.S. We had some yummy lobster at a little restaurant across the road from the hotel :).

The Melia Las Antillas is a very nice property and resort! I think the four star rating is an accurate reflection for the most part. I will provide more detail. To qualify this review I will advise my wife and I have been travelling to Caribbean, Mexico, Venezuela, Honduras and other Central America for 40 plus years and approximately 50 trips. I will ensure that I compare apples to apples. This was our first trip to Cuba. The Melia Las Antillas in Varadero Cuba is a nice 4* resort with good facilities and a beautiful beach. The resort is starting to show some sign of age but is very clean and well kept. Entrance and lobby area are welcoming and present well. The staff at check in and check out were excellent and efficient. Most spoke English quite well so communication not an issue.. We stayed in a junior suite ocean view on fifth floor for a very reasonable price and this included a concierge service. Elizabeth was our concierge and did a remarkable job. She worked long hours and always went out of her way to assist us and offer her expertise and services. I know I am speaking for many who received Elizabeth's special service.. The room was clean with excellent maid service from Nuceris. Room nothing special but compares well with similar 4 * resort. Very clean, no bugs, comfortable bed with OK sitting area. Adequate washroom and shower. Small patio to sit out for two people only. The pool is quite large clean and well set up for some sports and activities. Music around the pool was reasonable with some variety and common sense. Night time entertainment shows were typical. Couple good with a couple not so much....only my opinion.....LOL Travelled in to Varadero and we felt safe and welcomed. taking a ride around in one of the old convertibles is a nice diversion. Currency issues have to be rectified. The official rate for C$ to CUP is 18.5 to 1. On the bus to resort "guide" is offering 30 to 1. In town 50 to 1 and I even heard 70 to 1 was being offered. American $ widely accepted and some stores only have their prices in Us $??? Most Cuban stores in Varadero do not accept CUP. CUP is Cuban peso official currency. This is frustrating and a pain when you are on vacation. Fix this! The beaches of Cuba are spectacular and even nice/ safe to swim in with soft white sand. The beach we were on Tainos Beach and Vardero beach are both spectacular with beautiful aquamarine colours. Cubanos (Cuban people) are very, very, very nice and I must admit comparatively the most genuinely friendly and accommodating of all the places I have visited. I don't like to generalize but I did feel the warmness. The food issue is real. Lack of variety and some quality issues ....again comparatively to other similar resorts in sunny south. Lack of fruit and salads for sure. Now we could always find something good to eat but a lot of chicken and pork every day. Seafood and fish not as good as I had hoped. When evaluating you have to keep in mind they are preparing food for Canadians, Cubans, Poland, Russia, Argentine, Greeks that we met and undoubtedly many other nationalities we did not meet. So many pallets to satisfy! Positive notes I ate lobster twice. They also hosted a wonderful outdoor lunch pig roast...and chicken of course at an outside area with live band entertainment that was greatly enjoyed by most. Received excellent dining and bar service from Robert, Elio, Dayli, Yordan at pool bar restaurant, omelet cooks and fresh grill cooks. The price comparing apples to apples is approximately $200. C$ per person less expensive in Cuba with the shorter flight time being a positive as well. Soooooo I hope this helps. We will probably not return ....only because the food is not to standard. Staff are phenomenal, the buildings a bit dated but very functional, food is we have to remember is Cuban but they really tried. Very few resorts offer all you can eat lobster at the Buffet Restaurant but this one did on 2 or 3 occasions. Because of Covid and the lack of guests, some of the amenities that we normally have here were limited, as restrictions lift more and more have become available. Enjoyed the beautiful long sandy beach and clear ocean water. All staff wore masks and there was hand sanitizing stations everywhere. Enjoyed using the bicycles every morning, as well as the "Hop on and off" bus on the Varadero peninsula.

Beautiful resort!! Absolutely love the bungalow rooms, very nice clean rooms, amazing staff!! Lots of room around the big pool, tons of shows and activities to keep you busy, short walk to a gorgeous beach. Everything you need all on site, food was alot better then we had expected. Only 1 thing we didnt like and that was the strong sewage smell during some late nights. We may return in the future. I would rate this hotel a 4 star.

Not only was this our first trip to Cuba, it was our first vacation at a down south all inclusive in over 17 years. We were not disappointed. Everything we had heard and read about the friendliness of the Cuban people was true and more! The staff at the resort all go out of their way to make you feel special and welcome - Jorje, Colon, Clemente to name just a few, and our housemaid Aimee was a total delight. The resort is attractive and clean. The beach area is amazing. The pool is wonderful, and the animation staff do a great job keeping everyone entertained. We especially enjoyed the live entertainment at the roof top patio before the main shows each evening. Loved the water ballet. Can't comment on the other main evening shows as we did not go to see them. We were pleasantly surprised by the food as we had heard so often that "the food isn't great but everything else is in Cuba." It certainly did not compare to the food on the Alaskan cruise we did last year, but we did not expect it to. But the food certainly did compare to what we would make and serve on a regular day at home as we certainly don't cook 5 star meals 7 days a week at home! The breads, cheeses and charcuterie were great. I had no problem building myself a nice salad with the fresh greens and vegetables on offer and there was always some fruit (though not the variety at home) and there was ice cream! The omelet station was great. There was decent variety in the meats, fish and sides (it helps that I really do like rice and beans and their typical cuban version is really good). The only negative I could say is that the "hot" items were sometimes just barely warm by the time we got to a table to sit down to eat. The spanish wines served at lunch and dinner were quite good. The buildings are nice, but not spectacular or particularly opulent. That suits us just fine. We loved the location of our room in one of the smaller buildings as our balconey was always in shade so we always had somewhere to go for an hour or so when we needed to get out of the sun. The room is large, with a nice sunken living area included. My only complaint would be that the bathroom is very dated and really needs to be refreshed with more modern fixtures and decor - it really felt like an old bathroom straight out of a 1940's roadside motel. We did two day trips, the Havana trip including dinner and show at the Tropicana, and the Jeep Safari tour. Both were great and allowed us to learn a lot about Cuba, it's history, and it's current way of life. We only wished we had taken along some items for the children on the Jeep tour as the kids ran to the roadside to wave at us as we drove through the small villages. Along that vein, yes, if you're going to Cuba by all means tip regularly with CUCs, but also bring along some of the goods that are in short supply there - they are very much appreciated. In all likelihood we will be back in Cuba someday, but probably at another resort, just because we prefer to not go to the same place twice. We did notice that many people do return over and over as evidenced by the hugs and greetings from staff when some new guests arrived. We did thoroughly enjoy our time at Melia Las Antillas and I'm sure you will too!

Staff :quick at answering our requests more water bottles and towels and fixing water leak near door..Room is spacious enough. Beds/mattresses comfy..Quiet, good for sleeping in..Bathroom clean. Eating areas very close and convenient. Food :ok, a bit monotonous, but not inedible. For me, best items on the menu were some tropical fruts guavas and papayas. The only other fruits were watermelon (pink and not very sweet) and pineapple (sour and a bit tough). Fresh fruit juices and flavored yoghurt drinks were my second favorite foods. My roommate preferred the deserts (multiple choices of cakes!) Weather was great, but we were very very lucky.

We arrived late at night and will not fly that schedule again. We were given a "pretty horrible smoking room" and requested a move and given an upgrade. Had we stayed in a standard/no view shabby older room we would not have liked our stay. I would like to be able to book knowing the kind of room as pictures do not tell the story. I asked for ground level and the application was never received. The service and location at this hotel though was excellent and they made accommodations for health situation.

Food always cold, la cart restaurant alway served something not on the menu. Landed at night, no place to get food until 11:00pm, cook showed up Cuban time 11:30. Changed room 3 times and still had mild in the bathroom, with chips in the bath tub that were rusty. They did have SOME amazing staff. Listening to people on the bus, all felt that Cuba is going down hill. Not what it use to be Would NOT recommend!!!

Hotel and grounds beautiful. Nice layout. Don't forget to make a la carte reservations. Stayed for 5 days. Cannot wait to go again. Amazing hotel staff. Hotel is a little older but very clean. Great stay and great service.

everything was good but hotel is old and bathrooms are full of mold this was not a great experience asking for changing our room otherwise everything was great especially Beach service people friendly great entertainment at night

Great staff, good food and beautiful beaches. We felt safe leaving the resort and taking the bus to explore varadero. We went to craft market and local shopping center. I strongly suggest doing the Jeep Safari and Havana excursion.

The grounds were well cared for; the rooms not so much! I don't believe the rooms have been retro-fitted since the resort was built? 20yrs? The food was okay but just more of the same breakfast, lunch and dinner.Service was good, but unfortunately my wife was ill for most of our vacation. I needed ice for the water , which was all my wife consumed for the week. I had to walk from the hotel room to the lobby bar 3 times a day just so the ice bucket could be refilled; as there was no place to get ice unless you went to the bar. The beach was beautiful and clean. Our on call doctor Cecilia was wonderful, we could learn from Cuban medicine. This was our fourth time to Cuba, but unfortunately not our best vacation.

I had an amazing 4 nights, 5 day stay in Melia Las Antillas in August 2019. I felt really pampered and taken care of during my whole stay. Yoselin and Maria Y. were the receptionists who assisted me. The resort was clean, staff were always available for assistance, food selections were not bad and I found them really satisfying despite what everyone would say about Cuba having limited food options. The a la carte restaurant reservation line up though is a bit of a wait, so I suggest you line up early to get your time’s worth. I suggest you tip your servers whether in the restaurant, bar, alcohol service, reception area- they will be your friends as they’ll remember your name and presence and give you superb service! I stayed alone in this trip and I felt really safe and well taken care of;) The junior suite room I had was a “bit” outdated, but had the necessities I needed during the whole stay. I will definitely come back if given the chance. Every penny spent was worth it! 5/5 for me! All stars!

Amazing staff at the kids club,friendly hotel staff,clean rooms,good variety of food,minutes from the Ocean,clean pool & definitely a place to come back to. Would recommend it any time and can't wait to go back.

The resort was a little out dated, but the staff was very friendly. The resort did have everything you need and at the end of the day it was adequate for a great trip. I would recommend this resort as the beach and staff were outstanding.

The resort was nice it was dated but clean the staff were friendly and helpful food was ok a la carte restaurants are nice I wish there were more options to choose from. Beach is lovely too bad we didn’t have beach bar service on the beach or around the pool.

Hotel needs renovating - rooms all need some tlc and the lobby leaks, a lot, when it rains (which it did for several days). Smoking seems to be everywhere, especially at the entrance of the hotel. Had to change both rooms as one A/C very loud and door not locking in one room and toilet not working in the other room. Had to justify why we wanted to change rooms but persisted and got it done. Food is very repetitive and limited for anyone not eating pork or pork products. Dessert and fruits pretty much the same every meal. Food at the Mediterranean restaurant is hit and miss but service very good. Don't bother making a reservation for the Cuban restaurant - not worth it! A long walk to the beach but once there, no problems getting loungers. Not all staff happy about you trying to get a clean beach towel even every couple of days. The staff in all areas, for the most part, are very friendly and try their best to make your stay comfortable. The entertainers were very good and the shows enjoyable.The courtesy room for changing in between checking out and leaving is a joke - the worst I've ever seen - just gross! We were lucky to get clean towels only because we were quite friendly with one of the cleaners who happened to see us going to the room. Would recommend it but only after letting everyone know what they can expect. If I do stay there again, it would only be because of the staff as they do try their best.

The resort was nice. There is one pool and there was lots of seating and cabanas so we were able to have shade when needed. There is a bar right by the pool, and there were some activities each day by the pool. The beach was very nice. There is a bar close enough to the beach to make it easy to get a drink - but I would recommend bringing your own refillable cup. The service was okay, all the staff are friendly with the exception of the woman who books the a la carte. The food was fair, we could always find something to eat. The rooms were fair... we had some issues with one of the rooms we booked and had part of our group moved as a result. The location was great!

Located on beautiful Varadero Beach. Grounds are beautiful. Well maintained by the gardeners. Rooms are comfortable. Bathroom could use an upgrade. The maid cleaned the room nicely and always provided fresh towels and linen.

I thought I would write a book after our stay ( me and the misses of 35 years) The name “” sex and salsa”. It’s an adult resort fill with string bikinis and Latin music. Unlimited drinks great food super beach great pool area friendly bartenders and Cuban entertainment. Well I need not say any more. Try it your self Oops did I mention second honeymoon.

Have to admit we had a bit of a rocky start. The man at the front desk was not friendly when we checked in, the room was very outdated and worn (especially the bathroom) and because of the later hour our first meal at the buffet was cold, tasteless and mushy. All subsequent meals at the buffet were much improved, good service and the omelette stations at breakfast were great. The a la carte restaurants were okay, nice atmosphere at all of them and very good service. We ended up having a wonderful one week holiday at the Las Antillas. The beach is one of the most spectacular we have ever been on and the pool was large with lots chairs for all. Plenty of palapas on the beach too, but late comers were sometimes out of luck. This was our 11th all-inclusive vacation and many very fancy resorts had inadequate pool chairs and palapas. Our drinks were always cold, even the beer, and well prepared so very happy with that also. We really enjoyed the little beach bar close to the beach and the bartender there (can’t remember his name) gave awesome service! So, despite our rocky start the Las Antillas quickly won us over. Even though our room may have been very worn, the maid service was great, the bed was comfortable, lots of hot water and everything in the room worked perfectly, even the fridge! Would definitely go back if the price remains reasonable, the Cuban people are wonderful!

I had been at this resort back in November 2018 and enjoyed myself so much I rebooked & returned April of 2019 and plan to return again. Staff was very gracious and helpful. Melia has continued to invest and improve the resort. A new Health Bar has been constructed, the entire boardwalks to the beach have been replaced and hand railings are being replaced on the balconies. I will be rebooking again to Melia Las Antillas!

The hotel is a bit older, but , the staff are exceptional. Friendliest, safest people we have ever met, all the way down to the gardeners. The housekeeping staff are wonderful, the bartenders are friendly and accommodating. The Buffett and Ala Carte restaurant staff are friendly and wait on you hand and foot. You cannot ask for better service at this resort. The grounds are kept up and have a lovely view from the lobby bar of the whole resort.

Hotel was just OK. Food was always cold at the buffet. Service wasn’t very good. Very clean hotel. Grounds were well kept. Concierge service was good. Always entertainment at night in several areas .

The people are all so friendly, you just want to take them back home with you to keep them in your life forever. There was a large variety of buffet foods, sometimes not sure what they were but I found the food flavourful. Their bread and cappuccino are very good. We also liked the health bar. Pina colada drink was very good. Our room was clean. No bugs when we visited (March break) The nightly entertainment was very good. Never made it to the disco as we were so exhausted by 11pm. We didn't like the smell of sewer, not sure if it was the shark pond or if it was their actual sewer system but sometimes we found it very bad.

The food was pretty good. The entertainment was great. The grounds were clean. The rooms are basic but big. Only stayed in the room to sleep. Went snorkelling for the first time. The beach was the best!!!

The grounds are very nice and of course the beach is spectacular as are most beaches in Cuba. We have been to Cuba 13 times and this time we were disappointed. To be more specific, the bathrooms were very neglected. The cleaning staff never properly cleaned the bathtubs and they were very bad. It was not just one room, we were a party of 8 and all 4 bathtubs were nasty. In addition, the service at the main bar was laughable, don't even know where to begin but in a 8 day stay I can honestly say that our order was taken and forgotten over 20 times. The service at the pool and beach bar were excellent. We booked an a la carte and asked if there were vegetarian choices as several of our group are vegetarians. When we got there the only item was a soup, the other item marked as vegetarian had fish in it. We had to leave and go to the buffet. We also had a pair of pyjamas and a camera go missing and unfortunately never noticed until we were home. This resort is on par with a 3 star in Cuba and like I say, we have stayed at many places in Cuba but never again at this one.

The resort was dated and tired! We were with a big group one tub was almost rotted through, 2 tubs were black on the bottom, our bedroom had questionable stains on the bench cushions. First night there was no water or air conditioning. It wasn't busy and the staff was friendly enough. Great staff and activities available at the beach!

it was well organized .staff were very polite and friendly. but some of place of building were leaking it should be repairs. stuff were very polite and service was excellent .Melina hotel is one of the famous resort in Carrabin sea. we almost try to stay at this resort

Really enjoyed this resort. Beach is spectacular and the grounds beautiful.The rooms we large and spotless. I was pleased with the meals and choice of food. The workers are very friendly and helpful. The bars were well stocked. My only disappointment was that you had to get to the beach very early (between 6:30 am to 7 am) in order to get a nice lounger.

Stayed February 21-28, 2019 Package - The Level (Concierge service) Our package included 4 a-la-cart meals and a special lobster dinner upon request. Rooms for this package are located on the 4th and 5th floor of the main building. The concierge is located in a lounge on the 5th floor and is generally open from 7am to 7pm, but does close from time to time briefly for the ladies to have their meals and presumably take breaks. The 2 ladies working in the concierge lounge were very nice and it was lovely to have all our a-la-cart meals booked for us quite effortlessly. There is also a small bar, a coffee machine, and light snacks for breakfast and lunch up there and a computer you can use to log into the internet if you buy the access card from the main lobby. No wi-fi up there though, only hardwired to that one computer. Room - View from room We got a room on the 4th floor. Although it is technically an ocean view, what you could see from our room was a bit of water pretty far out and we got to look out over the hotel grounds and pool in the foreground. This is because the palm trees have grown quite tall and obstruct most of the view of the ocean. This was totally fine for me and I have no complaint about my view at all. If you want to be able to see more of the ocean, ask for the 5th floor as you can see a bit more with the additional height. Room - Nice touches, or at least, attempts at nice touches that mostly fell a little short. The shower had a retractable clothesline for hanging bathing suits to dry. Well, actually, our room had the hardware for that, but there was no actual line in it unfortunately. There was a double wooden bar mounted out on the deck for hanging things to dry. The bathroom had a bidet as advertised, but the end of the nozzle where the water comes out was crusted with that green corrosion that forms on old plumbing. Electronic safe in the closet, though most other people when we were checking in were receiving keys to a safe, our room had an electronic one. I'm not sure if this was because of the upgraded package we bought or just a fluke. Curtains had extra material around the outside edges so light didn't come peeking in around the sides in the morning :) But there was a giant stain on our curtains :( Bed is locate on one level with 2 steps down to the seating area and balcony. This makes it easier to lay in bed and look out your balcony door at the ground below, which is quite nice. TV had two English channels - CNN and CGTN. Closet had quite a few hangers, iron, ironing board, 2 umbrellas, shoe rack, and a dresser. We also had 2 robes. According to our paperwork there were supposed to be slippers, but we didn't have those. There was also a peg-bar mounted on the wall to allow for extra hanging. Hair dryer mounted to wall in bathroom worked well enough. Makeup mirror mounted to wall in bathroom was fine. Bathroom mirror itself was discolored behind the glass. Honestly, looked like massive amounts of dripping blood. High potential to give nightmares. Bathroom tiles in our room had several holes drilled through. These were mostly filled in with clear silicone plugs. Bathroom had a window of glass blocks to let in light, but could not be opened for ventilation and there was no fan to move air. I was hoping to have a coffee machine and a bit of coffee in the room. Nothing quite as nice as a private cup of coffee on the deck in the morning. There was a kettle and a few packets of instant decaf, no sugar. Our package included 3 bottles of alcohol in the room. We had a bottle of London Beef eater Gin, a Cuban sparkling wine, and a bottle of white Ron Mulata (we asked but were told dark or even amber rum were not available). Plumbing No shock here. I think anyone who has been, or is thinking about going to Cuba knows the plumbing has issues. Our bathroom sink, bidet, and toilet all actually had great water pressure though :) Unfortunately, the shower seemed to have flow restricted as there was very little coming out of there. It probably took me twice as long as necessary to shower each time just because of the lack of pressure to rinse the sand out of my hair. Also, there was a constant trickling sound in the wall of our bathroom that kicked up a notch every time the people upstairs from us flushed or showered. And not the same location as the pipes, because you could hear it coming from two different places. Fortunately nothing was leaking into our space, but I certainly wouldn't want to be around if that wall ever has to get opened up. As for flushing the toilet in our room, if you just pushed the button it did a little rinse, if you held the button down for a few seconds it would get up enough water to do a real proper flush. Main Building The front of the hotel is nothing spectacular, but who cares? That's not where anyone spends their time. The main lobby has the standard beautiful bouquet of tropical flowers. Sadly, as the flowers died they were just left there. They could have pulled the dead flowers out and replaced them with new ones, or even just pulled them out and gotten rid of them, but after a few days the beautiful bouquet was just sad looking. From the main lobby you could look up to each level and there were beautiful trailing vines growing along and draping down from flower boxes. Each level was totally open in the middle with windows that were opened daily to let in fresh air. It was lovely. There is also an ornate staircase going upstairs and a beautiful rounded staircase going down one level to where the restaurants and exit to the pool/beach are located. There are 2 glass elevators located in the main lobby (3 large panes of floor to ceiling glass in a bow out, looking out toward the beach in each elevator). I saw many other comments before going about these being under repair. They were both working-ish when I was there. One had the center pane of glass shattered and the door wouldn't close for what seemed like ages despite pushing the door close button. The other the door started to close so quickly that if there were 2 people trying to get on it would pretty much be guaranteed to start closing on the second person. This second elevator also got stuck on the second floor for a day and a half with the door open and binging incessantly. This was when I was leaving so I have no idea if it ever started to work again. The main lobby bar was easily the slowest service of any of the bars. Much quicker to walk down to the pool bar for a drink and walk back with it, but the lobby bar had actual glasses instead of plastic cups. Also on the main level was a small gift shop, a wicket to exchange money, and a room where you could buy internet cards and 2 computers in case you didn't have a device to use them. The wi-fi only worked in the main lobby area. Almost all the rooms in the main building faced over the inner grounds with an open air hallway running along the front side of the building. When we exited our door to this hall we got to look out over some kind of mechanical area (lots of pipes so I'm assuming water or sewage treatment) and the staff entrance/exit area. I realize this isn't the main view for enjoyment but the issue I had with it is that it was quite noisy in the early morning so I was woken up every day by trucks and people hollering. Grounds There was a winding pond with footbridges going over it throughout the center of the grounds. This was home to several tiny fish, some medium sized cat fish, and two rather good sized sharks. They mostly like to hang out in the shade during the heat of the day but they are quite friendly and swim up to the edges of the pond or circle under the bridges if you pay attention to them. Only drawback to this is that at one end there was a fountain circulating the water (presumably to provide movement and aeration for the fish) and it smelled bad. It's a sulfur smell, like rotten boiled eggs and depending on how the breeze is blowing sometimes you get it all over the pool area too. There was a cute little gazebo that always had a table with a white linen table cloth all set up for a private fancy dinner. I never saw anyone actually use it for anything, it was just constantly set up for nothing. There was mention of a health bar which wasn't open while we were there. We did watch it get built while we were there. There is some tropical landscaping throughout the grounds. I like plants and taking pictures of flowers so this is something I was looking forward to, but I would say they don't waste a lot of time on keeping these plants healthy. There was a large tile checker board (one of the tiles was cracked) and a second large board for chess set up. Only one bench at each location so one participant couldn't sit on their side of the board to consider their next move. There were several hammocks set up between palm trees throughout the lawn area. None were hung level. Pool I burn every time I'm in the sun so shade is very important to me when I go on vacation. There were wooden shade "umbrella" stands around the pool, but not really lots of them, the shade from the surrounding palm trees was limited to later afternoon when the sun was starting to go down. There were some pretty Balinese sun beds around the pool area that you could rent for $20 CUC per day, but I believe only 2 of them actually had a solid material and the rest were just lacy stuff that didn't actually block the sun. There were also 2 hot tubs in the pool area. They were quite small and the water was not really warm. The pool itself is technically 2 pools, but only in that you have to get out of one in order to transfer to the other side. The water is actually circulated between both sections. One side was about chest deep for most folks at one end and maybe waist deep at the other end with two sets of access stairs, and a "waterfall" section in the middle. The other pool was the same on the deep end but had a gradual walk out on the other end for those who prefer to ease into the water. There were no access stairs on this side. Both sides of the pool had tile repairs done rather poorly with mismatched tiles or just a slathering of grout over the bad sections. The grout between the tiles was NOT clean in either section. I've stayed a other resorts where they shocked the pool with chemicals each night to keep it clean, but I never smelled that at this resort and I never saw anyone with one of those scrub brush things to clean anything. I did see several guests removing the plastic cups and straws from the bar out of the pool and taking them to garbage cans, but I never saw a staff person doing that. The pool area was also the location of an open air building that contained a bar, restaurant, and washrooms. The womens' washroom had 3 stalls, 3 sinks, an air dryer for hands, and a papertowel dispenser that never had anything in it. I'm told the men's had one stall and 2 urinals (not sure of the rest). The floor here was completely flooded all day from pool swimmers going in to use the facilities. The restaurant in this area was technically the snack bar, but it was quite formal for a snack bar. There was always servers that would seat you and bring your food and drinks. Over lunch it wasn't snacks any more, it was sit down dining. The bar in this area was the best stocked, even better than the lobby bar but still amber or dark rum were hard to come by. They were VERY generous with the white rum though. Every cup was half filled with white rum, then a bit of ice, then your cola. If you asked specifically for a dark rum, you might even get it, or you might not. I couldn't determine a pattern. There was a hut for exchanging towels by the pool. Other people told me that one day it closed for a few hours when they ran out of towels, and it did close every day at lunch time for an hour, but I never had an issue with getting fresh towels. Beach There weren't a ton of shade huts but there were 3 rows deep. I generally didn't bother trying to get one because they were all claimed by early in the morning. One day, I lucked out and grabbed one as another couple was leaving the beach for the rest of the day. I ended up seated next to a rather large group of locals taking up the next 3 shade huts over from me. It was quite an enjoyable afternoon of chatting, but it does go quite a way toward explaining how hard it was to get shade. After that I took note each day of how many people taking up the shade at our beach did not have wristbands of any kind and had taken picnic lunches to the beach with them. The staff from the hotel was often quite friendly with these folks and I never saw any attempt to have paying guests given priority for use of the shade huts. Also, there were a few garbage cans along the beach but I never saw any staff make attempts to clean anything up. The beach was often quite littered with plastic cups and straws from the bar, and various tissues and cigarette butts. That was a bit of a surprise to me as I have seen other resorts raking their beaches to keep them clean and I never saw that once here. Dining Again, anyone who has been or is thinking about going to Cuba knows you don't go for the food. But that said, this was my biggest challenge all week. From my previous trip to Cuba I had been looking forward to the yogurt more than anything. Sadly, their version of yogurt wasn't the little individual sealed cups I'd had before, here they had large jugs of very watery milk based drink that tasted somewhat like yogurt. The guy that makes your omelette int he morning though was a bright spot in my day. There were actually a few different guys, but one wore all black jacket, pants, hat, and crocks on his feet and he was always really nice - humming and dancing to himself as he made my breakfast every day, and flipping them with great flair :) The main dining hall served the buffet breakfast, lunch, and supper and was quite closed in and noisy with no effective air conditioning. There were a very few tables outside this area and we were only lucky enough to get one once. I could go on about this for days, but I'll keep it brief. I never thought I was a person who cared about table cloths, but it turns out I am. I had an expectation based on previous knowledge of Cuban resorts that there would be table cloths and open air dining and neither of those came true for me on this trip. The painted wooden tables had plastic woven place mats that I never actually saw get wiped clean, just flicked off with the place mat and then the place mat turned over. It was all quite sticky. The tables where the food was set out and the grills were people cooked to order for you were not any better. I saw cockroaches on both those surfaces each and every time I entered the dining hall. Worse than their presence was the fact that nobody seemed bothered by them at all. Just totally normal to have them crawling all over the food tables all day long. Also, I never saw anyone take away any of the food trays, but several times I saw staff come up to them with a plate full of stuff and pile new on top of the old. Hubberz made note of one particular slice of sandwich meat with a distinctive notch out of the corner and saw that exact same piece of meat on the same tray for 4 days. Also, every single thing that came out of that room was so heavily salted I figure it must have been washed in the ocean water, and then sprinkled with a salt shaker after it finished drying. There were 3 a-la-cart restaurants. A Mediterranean place, a place called Romantico, and the Cuban place which was the only open air dining place which doubled as the snack bar the rest of the day. These meals were the only ones that I could actually eat as they weren't salted to death and they were in fact quite good. The enclosed dining rooms did also have very limited seating outside but inside was quite noisy and again, no table cloths, but Romantico at least had linen napkins instead of paper. Entertainment I did enjoy the shows in the evenings and most days I also enjoyed watching the entertainment troop practicing for the evening show. General Melia has a good name, but this particular resort just didn't live up to it. Even small details showed a lack of quality and care, such as the sparkling wine and orange juice in the lobby to greet guest was always warm, never ice in the bucket, or the tiles that needed to be replaced in flooring being done with a completely different colour and finish (brown matte hallway with black shiny tile once every few feet just looks weird). The staff were friendly and helpful when asked for something, the hotel in general just isn't managed well and it really shows. There is a facebook page called "Melia Las Antillas Cuba friends" full of people who seem to love the resort. When we posted a comment on the page outlining some of our experience we were told by other members that you have to just not look around at the hotel, have lower expectations, and only enjoy the people. Overall I would not recommend this resort, particularly as the package we booked was several hundred dollars more than we could have paid to stay down the street at a much better run place.

We, my sister and I just returned from a week at the Melia Las Antaillas. We have both been to Cuba 20+ times are we are very familiar with what to expect in Cuba. We Love Cuba! The property is absolutely beautiful and the staff for the most part are amazing. First the cons.... A couple of issues; first when we arrived my sister was feeling very ill and we asked for a room sooner than 3:00 (we arrived at 12:00 noon). Apparently, that was impossible which is difficult to believe based on the size of the resort and the number of people we saw there. There are no coffee makers in the rooms as advertised. There is an electric kettle, that's it. We were very disappointed as you have to go to the main lobby anytime before 9:00 am to get coffee which can be a bit of a hike. they could easily set up a coffee station in the pool restaurant as staff are there long before nine setting up. Also Sunwing tell you the bus ride is 25 minutes when in fact it took us an hour and forty minutes to actually get to the hotel. We had to stop at every downtown hotel first. We opted not to go to Cayo Santa Maria this time because of the bus ride. We were very surprised and disappointed to discover the length of time you spend on the bus is actually longer than the Cayo Santa Maria trip. We took a cab to the airport on the way back and yes, we were there in 35 minutes. When I mentioned this to the Sunwing rep she got quite defensive saying, well, we have 65 resorts on Varadero. I understand this I was just pointing out that the information in their package was incorrect. The first room we were assigned had a very strong chemical odour. We emailed in advance of our arrival, both the resort and the Melia head office to express our concerns about cigarette and other odours in the room as my sister is very sensitive. We were promised this would be taken into consideration and we would be taken care of. This was not the case. I was shown three other rooms and all of them had the same strong chemical odour. I spoke with several other people who experienced the same issues and moved rooms several times before they found one they could tolerate. We wound up staying in the first room with the air on full blast to dissipate the smell.the patio door was almost impossible to open and close. The rooms need some updating, the lighting in the sink area is dim at best, the tub is rusty and the grout needs replacing. All that being said we didn't let any of these issues ruin our vacation. I understand they are upgrading the rooms but none of the three I looked at were upgraded. A new health bar was completely constructed and opened while we were there but personally, I think the rooms should be upgraded first before adding additional venues. We tried the specialty restaurants and only had an issue with one, Don Peperone. At Don Peperone the sparkling wine is an extra charge even though it is free everywhere else on the property including at the buffet! The service was beyond slow and we wound up leaving after 20 minutes without even being offered a glass of wine. I take exception to the lobster being an extra charge everywhere on this resort as many of the 4 and 5 star resorts we have stayed at in Cuba include lobster at no additional charge! $20.00 Canadian no less. The Pros... The beautiful property. The amazing staff. The best beach in Cuba. Great food. Great drinks. Direct Flight.Super Clean. Beautiful weather, etc. Would we go back. If you asked us on the first day the answer would have been no. But, having spent the week we have changed our opinion and would definitely go back. Next time we will pack a coffee maker and coffee and we will take a cab from and to the airport!

the grounds were well kept. the cleanliness of rooms was satisfactory meals were a little less than satisfactory buffet was very similar lunch and dinner every day. breakfasts were good. difficult to get a hot cup of coffee, we gave up and had tea. cream for coffee would be a welcome change the sunwing rep was useless, on the two occasions we asked for help no language problems beach and pool were beautiful hotel staff very friendly and helpful

Between the mould in ther grout in ther bathroom and in the pool to the cockroaches on the buffet table...... no, just no. I'm not going to babble on about this to make up 200 characters. I just want to forget it.

Would not recommend this hotel. Food was good and the beach was nice. Service wasn’t good. Took about half an hour in the lobby bar to get a drink at any given time. Room air conditioning, fridge, and hair dryer all did not work upon arrival. Expected a much better room for price paid. Service in the dining areas was good and the cleaning lady did an excellent job. Only allowed one water bottle per day between two people. Hotel in need of updates.

I was greatly disappointed in this resort. On first sight our room needed repainting as rust was on the ceiling. It had a metal piece as you walk in. Tub was chipped. Took two days to get them to turn on air conditioning. Fridge didn’t work till 2nd day. Hair dryer never worked. Ceiling in gym was leaking and had marks from previous leaking. Gym equipment was old and needed upgrading. Were not allowed extra water than 1 bottle a day for two people. Also on day we left at 6 pm was not allowed any water. Had to sneak it at the bar. The grounds were fairly maintained. The shark pond was stagnant. The pool was well maintained. Bars were run well but wait to get served in main building was at least 1/2 hr. For the advertising and what I received were two different things. I expected concierge but had to pay for it. Expected ocean view. Got a roof view. Expected room service. Oh no that wasn’t for us. I feel I paid way too much for what I got. The cleaner was wonderful and cleaned exceptionally well.

The food wasn’t too bad. Rooms could be cleaner but you are not going there for the room. Beach was awesome and pool was great! The staff was friendly and helpful. I would go back tomorrow if I could.

Everything is just perfect. The facilities the food and particularly the great staff. The fact that it is between both Varadero and Havana is great. One of the best beaches in Varadero the flight by Sunwing was trouble free and on time.

Hotel services are very good and hommy. Overall, it was worth every penny. I must say Hotel staff are amazing! We had such great time there. Well , a ceiling light was dead in our room, but it doesn’t bother us. Most of time, we didn’t even in the room. We spent most of our time in The beach and other activities. Oh the toilet in our room had a bit trouble when flush, other than that everything is great!

The resort was as I expected. Many of the servers at the bars, restaurants and cleaning were very friendly and helpful. The front desk staff could have been more helpful when asked questions about the resort and and areas around the resort. The resort itself was clean and well maintained, and I appreciated the short distance from the rooms to the beach. The food made on grills were good, but other foods were bland but manageable.

The room,staff were excellent and the food was the best we've had in Cuba. Loved the beach and the pool. The only bad part was that the music with the entertainment was much to loud. It was so loud that it came to a point that we couldn't hear or understand the proformer. It does not need to be so loud. The guest are not far away from the stages. Louder is not better. We ended leaving then stopped going. Also I was disappointed in the Lobby Bar restroom. There was toilet paper instead of paper towels in the ladies washroom. We wil certainly return Kathryn and Tim Dreher

The rooms were very clean, the service was good and the food was better than expected. Really good value. We also liked that there were plenty of comfortable chairs around the pool and also the beach. The meal options were varied at the buffet and the specialty restaurant was excellent. Had a great time with our friends.

We have been to Melia Las Antillas many times and we love the location of the resort and the size of the resort, it is not too small and not too big. The staff are excellent, they are truly amazing people. It is like home away from home. We did find this time round that the food was not as good as usual. However, all in all it was a great place to be. We were a bit annoyed that we specifically ask for and pay for a bungalow garden view room and we were put into the hotel for our first night and did not get into our room until the next day in the early afternoon. To my understanding we pay a little extra for the garden view room and think there should be some adjustment for the inconvenience of having to stay in the hotel for the evening. Having said all that, again we LOVE people at this resort all the staff including the gardeners as well. Very very nice and friendly people. You cannot ask for much more than that.

Room was very spacious and clean. Beach was beautiful! The a la cartes were amazing! Buffet was ok. We could always find something to enjoy! The bread was amazing! Staff was very friendly! We would return to this resort!

The grounds were well maintained and beautiful. Variety of food. Shrimp, mussels, crab were a treat to have. If you like spicy food there were sauces to add. Room was large and very clean. Staff very friendly. Beach was the best. White sand and could walk long distance. Entertainment at night was good at the bar and outdoor terrace. Over all great vacatiion

We enjoyed all aspects of this resort: great food, excellent pool, great entertainment, great service and nice room. We enjoyed the fact that they're weren't a lot of line ups at the resort. We always could find a spot at the pool or on the beach. All the hotel grounds were well maintained and the staff was excellent. The room (delux room) had a great layout, but is starting to show the signs of age (wear and tear), could use some new bedding as well. Overall we were very happy with this resort and would recommend going there.

Overall there was nothing exceptionally wrong except for one thing. There are two hot tubs in the pool areas but neither was hot or even warm for that matter. And given that I have a bad back I was not impressed. The pool area was very nice, but the beach could have been cleaner. I had to change rooms because in the first one the safe and the patio door lock were both broken. I was not the only person during my stay to request a room change or even a resort change. The second room was musty smelling but it didn't bother me. The food was better than I was told to expect in Cuba. Lots of variety. However, they don't seem to get the concept that a chaffing dish is supposed to keep food hot, not just lukewarm. On the plus side I was impressed by the local Sunwing rep and the tour guides.

Resort is fair but not amazing. The bar was ok. Service ok. The food lacked variety. The room service was very good. The beach amazing as usual. The grounds very well maintained . The rooms needs renewal especially the washrioms

Had a fantastic time at this resort. Lots to do, great food, and great staff all made this a very memorable trip for me. I will be back to this resort i the near future. I would recommend this resort to anyone.

The grounds were nice, the rooms were clean. Most of the staff were friendly, some need to smile more! Drinks were good, lots of choices. The buffet food wasn't always hot. The pool was refreshing and the beach was clean. My biggest complaint would be the airline delays both heading out and returning flights. Too many hours sitting in airports. Nothing to do with the resort.

I found majority of the staff to be absolutely awesome (specifically awesome were Havier, Orlando, Tatiana, Miley and Omelet lady-sorry didn'tget her name-these individuals ALWAYS went above and beyond). The rooms were spacious and clean to sparkle every day, the grounds and beach were immaculate. The food was underwhelming due to the fact the buffet food was always cold, even when they would top up the trays, it was still cold. The only good thing about food at the buffets were the pasta, grill and omelet stations, were it was prepared for you as you waited so guaranteed to be hot! Over all my experience was so good, even the cold food didn't make my experience a bad one.

First time visiting Cuba. The Melia Las Antilles was recommended and did not disappoint. The staff is welcoming, the rooms clean and the food was great. I would definitely return. Sunwing Flight was delayed almost 5 hours going to Cuba from Toronto and 2 hours coming back next time I would pack bug repellent the sand fleas loved me

We Celebrate our 43 years our Wedding Anniversary, and this Hotel was Massing what they do with us first we go to Romantic Restaurant for Free Lobster Dinner, we just Not believe that our Welcome for us we Never going to Forget this all week so many Suppressed, we going back again soon we just like to Thank you the Hotel and our Travel agent Angela so much and the Trip Centre

The hotel was okay. My room was fine, clean and my maid Yuvie was great. Too many stairs to climb every day and walking to reach the pools and beach. Although there were elevators to go from my floor to the lobby floor, the elevator to go to the buffet and restaurants was under maintenance. Therefore, the spiral staircase had to be used at least 10 times a day. The pool was at least 5 city blocks from the lobby and the beach at least 10 to 15. When one has a chronic condition such as RA , bad knees or back that is a lot of walking or climbing for one day x at least 7 days. Staff was friendly and tried to be accommodating, food was fair, a la carte restaurants were good. I went to relax and I accomplished that to a point.

Beautiful beach, safe and sound. Always wanted to try Cuban food as usually people complain. It was good, different cuisine of course (thats why people travel the world) but good. There was always grilled seafood, pizza, pasta in case you don't like Cuban food. Mediterranean restaurant was great. The bathroom was a little surprising after being in mexico. The buidling was kind of old but clean, GREAT GREAT GREAT entertainment team! Amazing dancers and performers! Never seen better shows than this. Great people! Kind, nice, and respectful. I will definitely go back again this time for a bit longer than 3 days.
