Let me start by saying that I rarely write reviews, but my stay at the Muthu Playa Varadero Resort was so overwhelmingly disappointing that I feel compelled to warn others. If you're considering this resort, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. This will be a long rant, but every word is deserved. **First Impressions:** When I arrived at the Muthu Playa, I had high hopes. The lobby, I admit, is quite pretty, and the weather in Varadero is lovely. But that’s where the positives end. The moment I checked into my room, the horror began. **Room and Facilities:** My room was a disaster. The ceiling was leaking water, the toilet was broken, and the phone didn’t work, leaving me stranded without any way to contact the front desk for assistance. The bed sheets and towels weren’t swapped out even once during my entire stay, leaving me to sleep in the same dirty linens for days. Cockroaches infested the room, and if that wasn’t bad enough, the pool—when I dared to go for a swim—was incredibly dirty. To top it all off, there were no beach towels available, and the outside bathrooms were perpetually out of toilet paper. **Dining Disasters:** Dining at this resort is an absolute nightmare. The coffee machine never had any coffee, and there was no coffee at the lobby bar either. Breakfast coffee? Served in a ladle like soup. I couldn’t make this up if I tried. The fridge in my room wasn’t stocked, and when I went to the snack bar, all they had to offer was a pathetic dinner roll with a single slice of ham. The dining hall was no better, with roaches crawling around, no milk for my daughter, and a shocking lack of basic food items like potatoes, bacon, and even cocktails. No mojitos, no piña coladas—nothing but disappointment. Oh, and I found rocks in the rice. Yes, rocks. **Activities and Entertainment:** What activities? Everything was closed. No restaurants, no disco, and certainly no pool bar, despite its physical presence. The shows at night were somewhat okay, but the music was so loud it was hard to enjoy anything. **Service and Atmosphere:** This resort is essentially a Cuban local hangout, not designed for foreign tourists. The staff's attitude towards us was dismissive at best and disrespectful at worst. Locals were always served first at the bar, regardless of how long we had been waiting. It was clear that our presence was not valued. **The Final Straw:** The mosquito situation was unbearable. I left with over a hundred mosquito bites, which was just the cherry on top of this miserable experience. **Positives (if you can call them that):** Yes, the beach is nice, the weather is good, and the water is comfortable. The eggs at breakfast (when available) were decent. The internet was surprisingly free with a decent signal. But these minor positives don’t come close to outweighing the countless negatives. **Conclusion:** In summary, Muthu Playa Varadero Resort is a disgrace. From the unsanitary conditions to the complete lack of basic amenities and the terrible service, this resort fails on every level. This is not a place for foreigners, and I would strongly advise anyone considering this resort to steer clear. My stay here was nothing short of a nightmare, and I would not wish this experience on anyone. Save your money, your sanity, and your vacation—stay somewhere else.

Fast check in and check out. Elevators still doesnt work and our room was on the 5th floor but went to the lobby and asked the receptionist if we could move to 1st or 2nd floor and they said yes right away. Staffs always have a smile on their faces every time they see us. The rooms are always clean. They clean every day.Changes towels and put new toilet paper. We are not a picky eater,the buffet always serve eggs,hams,cheese,fresh fruits like papaya,guava,mango and watermelon. They can always cook pork for you.Sometimes beef,chicken and fish.They have pasta,rice. And to my surprise they have ketchup and garlic hot sauce and butter once. You can reserve to eat at ala carte. My kids enjoyed the pool and we enjoyed the beach. We tried the sailing and they have lots of free water activities and they have shows every night. We tried their massage. We went to Delfinario and you can walk but we got a taxi and paid $5. We had so much in this hotel.

Been to Cuba over 30 times. Staff at front desk, bars, and restaurants are amazing. Housekeeping services are sub par. Don’t leave toilet paper, don’t leave water, don’t change towels, don’t show up at all some days. And we are generous tippers with gifts and money. Rooms are in need of updating. Ours flooded out and we were moved but had to follow up twice. We were walking around in 2” of water. Food and alcohol were scarce but we expected that as it isn’t unusual. Always had beer, but would run out of rum, vodka and whiskey regularly. We aren’t big drinkers so not a problem for us. Beach is beautiful but pool filtration and vacuum don’t work so pool is a bit scetchy but passes. A huge number of Cubans now use the resort. All very friendly but be prepared for 45 minute lineups for food at times. Also, you must book a la cartes on a daily basis and need to be prepared to get to booking area 1 1/2 hours before opening. So take a book. In summary, we did enjoy our holiday in spite of some frustrations that we had not experienced in our recent trips to Cuba this year. Would not return to this hotel in the future.

This place is a real health hazard. Shortages, cockroaches, dirty rooms, bad service. One piece of advice is stay away. Got sick 2 days into the trip, with severe diarrhea and vomiting. No fresh towels, used the same ones throughout the whole trip for showering and for the beach. STAY AWAY.

I like the location and grounds which are kept in good condition. The rooms are good looking with adequate furniture. I had to switch the room because there was no hot water for shower and the toilet did not have adequate water flow to flush after use. My group of 8 people are from India and we found the food plain with only salt and oil. There was no way to spice up the food. The management could not arrange for some kind of chilli, pickle, chatney etc. As a result my room mate lived on omlate and milk for breakfast and ice cream ( up to 6-8 scoops) at lunch and dinner. We could not sleep till late because my room mate had to be there as soon as the doors open for breakfast. My room mate was very unhappy and wanted to return to Canada but stayed and endured at my request. The group felt sorry for him. We also experienced shortage of drinking water in the room. We resorted to reuse our empty plastic water bottles by filling them at the bar or had to drink more beer. At one point the bar was also closed because they ran out of plastic glasses at the bar. The activities, games, dancing and shows etc. were nice, organised and enjoyable. Please consider improving the items l have outlined above, particularly the food related issue which can easily be remedied by providing bottled chutney, pickle etc. Please note that the food is an important part of being on a vacation. Sorry that l can not recommend at this time as me and my room mate did not have the experience we expected. I do like the resort and it's settings. I also liked the staff as they tried to accomodate our needs. Also please note that the elevators, hallways and rooms could be cleaned better.

We stayed here from March 19-30, 2024. We had an amazing time. If you go to Cuba with an open mind, you will have an amazing trip. The food is mediocre, you won't starve. Some days are surprisingly delicious, others are repetitive. You won't starve. The 4 flights to my room toned my legs, I didn't die. My boyfriend helped every single person he came across carry their luggage up the stairs, yes there are valets/bell hops but they are busy too. The back side of Building 1 is hot because it gets the sun from late morning straight through til it sets, we had AC and we rocked 24.5-27 every day and every night. Room was clean every day. We left toiletries and cash tip every for our housekeeper. 2L of water was left in our room every day. Sand was swept up, new towels. No issues with pool/beach towels, ever. We swapped out when needed. All of the guys in the towel shack are lovely. Entertainment guys are awesome. Beach security and life guards were all amazing. Beach was amazing, even with red flag the few mornings we had it, the sound was great and we read our books and dipped our toes in. The yellow flag is great fun to play in the water and never take your eyes off the waves coming lol. Big difference in temperature at the walkway, by the pool smoking hot, no wind. By the beach super windy and tolerable heat. BBQ joint for lunch every day! That is the place to be. Get to know the wait staff - they are great humans. Carlos at the main buffet is a treat, we sat in his section every day. Just a sweet man. WIFI was great but sometimes they weren't able to print new tickets with login and password in which case you don't get wifi at all, you will live I promise, put your phone in your safe and continue on. No vodka, no gin, no lots of stuff. They have slushie drinks and beer and rum. The shack down my the beach has cans of Moosehead! The Cafe is amazing, they ran out of coffee a few times for a few hours each time, it was fine. Cappucinos are great! Go into Varadero and eat at Varadero 60 - it will blow your mind. We went for our birthdays and were not diappointed

The resort overall is a beautiful place but I've never had such dirty rooms. The shelves were not dusted, my sister's room had mold all over a wall, my pillow case was not cleaned and smelled like someone's oily scalp. The beach is great but the food was the same every day. A week stay here is okay but I would not go longer. We played beach volleyball every day which was fun. There was a nightly show and discoteka. Some nights were amazing, and other nights not so great when they changed the DJ that did not play our requests. If you're looking for good snorkelling off the beach, all you're going to find here is sand. We did an excursion with tripcentral and they promised amazing snorkelling for 45 to 60 mins. The bus was late for pickup so we only got 30 mins and the snorkeling was mediocre. I would dive down to the bottom but for people who stayed up top, there was not much to see.

My husband and I went for a quick weekend trip. The resort is small and you can see it’s age. They do seem to be slowly renovating. The lobby and coffee bar area are fresh and clean. The rooms are in need of updating however we found our room clean and bright with good working AC. The beach is stunning as we expected with Varadero. We were disappointed there was no real bar on the beach and it was quite a hike to get to the nearest bar. The food was repetitive which was understandable with the current shortages but we were always able to find something.

Small hotel with moldy outdated rooms. I had to tye rip the head shower in order to take a shower. Some of my clothes was stolen, small buffet with same food every day. The restaurant was the same food from the buffet. One staff was unprofessional and flirty with my daughter. Good coffee, not too busy and nice beach

Food was horrible. No test at all. Outdoor was clean but not inside the buildings. Rooms was not renovated and broken safety box and washrooms. Cleaning rooms not properly and shortage of water bottles, not changing beds on your stay. Very poor service. I will never go back or recommend anyone

If you choose to go there, be prepared for anything! (No shower, no hairdryer, flood in the room, ceiling about to collapse, no toilet paper, broken door, very old mattresses, no elevator, etc..) You name it, we had it but laughed through it all because we were ready for anything! Will never go back and do not recommend unless you’re ok with a 1 star at best.

Hey! I spent a week here Jan 7-14th, an enjoyable time. Not all would say the same but I didn't have any major issues. I was on the 5th floor, the elevator doesn't work but if you don't mind the stairs the view was great. Their 2nd A La Carte restaurant was due to open the day after I left, so it was a chore to get registered for the only restaurant open at that time, the booking gal got to the desk at 9:30 but the lineup started before 9AM, and I found this to be a pain to do every day. Hopefully it's easier with 2 restaurants open. The Snack Bar closed early, like 5PM while we'd still be by the pool, and it reopened around 9PM.... The beach is fantastic, the water was glorious. I'd take some black pepper with you if you like a little spice in your food, they only had Salt and Cinnamon that I saw. Overall, it was well worth the money & I was glad that I went. Great place to relax in the sun. ?? ??

We were three people (3 beds) in one room 1419 on the fifth floor. The view of the pool and the ocean was amazing! The room is very pleasant, quite A/C, and a nice bathroom. Free internet worked in the room and on the beach. We were prepared for limited choice of food, but everything that we needed was there: eggs, fruit, veggies, rice. The entertainment was fun. The staff was helpful. The elevator didn't work for many days, but we took it as a wonderful opportunity to exercise. Nice pool, snack bar at the pool, amazing beach. We even enjoyed rainy days. Feeling grateful for this vacation!♥️

I don't recommend this resort for now as it's very outdated (feels 1990's in most places with minor exceptions) and for now they are in full slow reconstruction/repairs.. so you would have no sleep at night at all (balconies doesn't close well and no noise isolation at all).. rooms are closing almost all very loudly and because of long corridors the echo sounds like explosions, bangs, etc... if you are less lucky you'll have disrespectful people screaming (even if they speak quite the interior part of the resort is like an arena, so echo is amplifying the sound) for the whole nights and you need to be "drunk" or on pills not to hear that as isolation is so bad... luckily my experience wasn't a mess but not because of the resort ... - (resort experience 2/5 stars, rooms 1/5 stars, buffet 4/5, this resort shouldn't be marketed as 4 stars even 3 stars overall would be very generous)

This hotel was definitely not as advertised. The food was very poor and stale and we saw that almost daily the leftovers were redecorated, recycled and represented to be eaten. We have food restrictions in our diet, but there were no vegetarian or other food options. We were hoping to have seafood in Cuba but all we got was shrimp and that too was stale, not properly cooked and caused us digestion issues. As per your site/resort website - there were supposed to be 3 restaurants but this was a lie. There was only 1 restaurant that can only seat 14 people max! My son had to be hospitalized because he got food poisoning from the restaurant (not even the buffet). We were told there would be snacks bar but it was under construction and all they offered was soda or drinks. Even the soda was watered down and towards the end, they ran out of that as well. Not only that, the rooms were dirty, bathroom flush leaked all night and we had to request room change as it was so smelly. The lobby and bldgs. were dirty resulting in overflooding of bugs and mosquitoes. These led to us being bitten so badly that my daughter had allergic reaction and her face was swollen for 3 days! We had power outages, water puddles in the lobby, coffee that ran out and cockroaches running all over the premises. The elevators did not work and we had to drag our luggage up and down stairs with only one bus-boy to help the whole resort. No hot water in the showers, bedsheets/towels not changed/updated for 4 days with room service not being done everyday! Lastly they had huge speakers directly facing our rooms and blasted disco music all day and night long causing us severe migraines and nights without sleep.

My whole experience was great but not because of the hotel...the only good part is it wasn't expensive...poor people that pay full price for that hotel...having very noisy construction work done starting 20.00h(8pm) and continuing till 03-04.00h AM that's not cool..unfortunately I'm not joking... would not recommend only if you really don't have any other choices

Beach: It's Varadero so of course it is amazing. Food: plentiful but repetitive. How many ways can you serve rice? There was a roast beef night. Pork a lot of it. Ground beef was served but the globules of cartilage was huge turn off. There were a lot of Russian tourists, more than we have ever encountered. They shoulder you out of the way and take ALL of the best food for themselves. Cheese was rare to be seen and when it was it would all disappear quickly onto their plates. Room: two larger than single beds, tv, bathroom, everything you'd expect. The water was actually warm, most times. We revisited the "bat cave" to see the pre historic ancient drawings on the cave walls. The tour several years ago was much more informative than it is now. This year a different tour guide didn't do much in the way of being informative, as he did not even point out the ancient drawings on the walls nor did he tell the tour of how ancient peoples used to live in these cave dwellings. Took the tourist bus into Varadero twice. $5 cost each for a day pass. Cuba has a new peso - again. (New government) The Cubans do not want to take their own peso! Not even in the poorly stocked grocery store so don't bother getting money exchanged. Goods are priced in the peso. Exchanged to Canadian and then again to American which is the currency they want to deal with. We found it insulting. This was our 12th trip to Cuba along with many Canadians supporting the tourist economy and our dollar is not wanted! This was probably our last trip to Cuba, it has changed too much for the worse. The people are still lovely and kind but their circumstances make it difficult to see. We get food, they have little. How long can this be sustainable? We always pack clothing and buy socks etc. to give away at our own considerable expense. You can only do so much but it is never enough. The resort has a very large pool and plenty of chairs and loungers to accommodate a large clientele. Access to coffee was difficult. There is a wonderful coffee bar BUT you had to wait until 7:00 a.m. to maybe get some. There is no coffee available in the restaurant, as they have to go to the coffee bar to get it. We found it very inconvenient. Is it rationed I wonder? The servers never smiled; tipping did not help! We have always bought our limit of vodka and rum while in Cuba but vodka was not available and the price has more than doubled. The money exchange taking the lion's share of savings to our Canadian equivalent. So even this perk on a trip to Cuba is no longer as "perky". There is still a savings but not nearly what we've become accustomed to. To requote my husband. "the bloom has fallen off the rose when it comes to vacationing in Cuba." ...unfortunately.

This place looks like it was a 4.( star resort 10-15 years ago. One of the biggest and nicest pools I’ve seen in a resort in Cuba with a nice deep end which I enjoyed. Otherwise everything is pretty dated and they’re doing contruction. The food was fine for Cuba. Really quiet. Wouldn’t recommend if you enjoy night life, after 5pm it’s a ghost town. For the price it was fine.

Petit complexe. 1 restaurant à la carte. Belle piscine, belle plage Hôtel vieillot. Chambre propre. Lit confortable. Coffret de sureté dans la chambre, frigo, séchoir, fer, serviettes propres et bouteille d'eau à chaque jour. Eau chaude rare... Longue file pour la viande grillée. Aucun fruits de mer, 2 repas où le poisson était offert. Buffet peu garni: concombre, gombo et courges pour les légumes. Mieux pour les fruits. Pas de fromage, ni sauce tel que mayo ou ketchup. Pas de lait ou menthe pour les drinks. Mais! le personnel de cet hotel est exceptionnel. Mylena aux chambres, Roberto à la salle à manger, Julio à la plage et tous les autres que j'ai oublié le nom, merci. Merci d'offrir un service 5 étoiles.

We spent a week at Muthu Playa July 3 to 10th. This was our first visit in Cuba, we are an older couple from Eastern Europe. We don't speak English or Spanish, but we did not have any problem with communication as everyone was patient and very helpful. Keep in mind, that you are visiting Cuba, so we aligned our expectations accordingly. Hotel: It is on a prefect location in Varadero. Close to the beach, close to the city, dolphinariums, etc. It looks better than the pictures on Tripadvisor. However, outdated, some reno could do the magic, but everything perfectly in working conditions, a/c worked perfectly. Lobby, and rooms were very clean. Elevators, (outside glass panorama and inside ones the buildings) are working so no issue being on the top level. Actually, we preferred it as the view was beautiful from the room, was not blocked by buildings or trees. Beds were very comfortable, very clean and aways neatly done. Pillows were also comfortable. We had no issue to sleep. Bathroom also was very clean, toilet paper and clean, fresh towels were provided daily. Room had hairdryer, iron, mini fridge where bottled water was provided daily. Internet: we had access, but it was slow and we had to keep reconnecting. Ground: hotel ground was beautiful, well maintained, clean. Beach: most amazing beach. Beautiful white sands, crystal clear water. Water was shallow about 20 or so meters before starts to get deep. Hence it would be perfect for families with small children. The ocean, was amazing no matter what time of the day. During our visit there were no crowd. We always had beach bed available. Food: no shortage (we were surprised, as based on our research we expected minimal food), lots of variety of food, even if some of it was not for our taste, we never were hungry. Sure everyone can find something to eat. Excursion: we paid for a day trip to visit Havana. We would like to say a big thank you for Ivonne (Westjet), who helped us to book the trip and made sure we looked after (due to language barriers). Hotel Staff: Everyone, starting from reception, life guard, cleaning lady, barista is very polite, helpful and friendly. Especially we would like to mention, Jenyu, who kept our room neat and clean all the time and made sure we have everything what we need. Also, Osmedi who was the barista at the playa, made sure we taste all the Cuban specialties, cocktails. And a BIG thank you for Geovanis (life guard) who made our stay very memorable.

Every time it gets worse and worse... Since December, beach towels have disappeared. I had to remind them for three days. Strange disappearances of plastic cups in bars. Food, well, there are some oddities here, then there is no dessert, then something else. The rest is pretty normal for Cuba. People are friendly. PS. Well, in the end, at the airport of Varadero, the company Sunwing distinguished itself. An hour in line for check-in and baggage!!! One employee at the check-in for elite passengers and one for everyone else! This is certainly a huge gift from the company Sunwing.

Other than the beautiful pristine beach at the resort, the food was awful, service was mediocre, 4 big cockroaches in our room, hard time getting beach towels and shower towels, cold showers, etc... we had originally booked the starfish resort but the flights were cancelled so we had to pick another resort leaving the following day from another city. I've been to Cuba quite a few times and really enjoy Varadero... I never complain about the resort food as I don't go to Cuba for the food - I always manage to find something I like. However, the food at Muthu Playa was well below what I was used to from the other resorts. Buffet only, minimal choices...we pretty much lived on ham sandwiches all week. And yes, I sound awful saying that knowing that many of the Cuban people are suffering. But compared to other resorts who are deemed 4 stars like Muthu Playa, the food was not even close to being comparable. Restaurants in town were amazing however, wish we had brought more Canadian money! We will return to Cuba but not to Muthu Playa unfortunately.

The staff made the stay at this resort excellent. Xavier was a gem , the resort needs some TLC which they started. doing while we were there. The food was ok would never go hungry. The beach was clean and good for kids and people who dont like deep water. The rooms were clean and in good condition the only downside was shortage of towels

Staff friendly food was good at first but we ate same thing for 7 straight days. 2 ala cartes and basically food came from the buffet and just fancied it up. Towel chalet was closed whole trip so we had same beach towels all week. Getting toilet paper n shower towels was an issue. Bar staff excellent, pool setting was amazing. Room service lacking due to in staffed.

Hotel lacks towels (beach towels), most staff was friendly, ran outta tequila at the bar and didn't restock, were out of butter most days, buffet was decent for Cuban standards. Omlettes were good but only had tomatoes for it 1 day out of 7. Rice and beans very good. Lots of pork amd seafood which I don't eat either, but was always able to find something to eat. Chicken sandwiches at the snack bar were very tasty but they never put enough chicken in the sandwiches even when u ask. Never went into the pool but it looked nice. I'm a beach girl, was at the beautiful beach everyday, even our last day when it was a lil chilly (20°C) but I was still at the beach. Thinking of coming back to this resort with the kids in a few weeks. Only real downfall was the $20 cab rides to town to go out for dinner other than that this resort was pretty decent!!

As per Cuban standard the hotel was not chosen for food or luxury accommodation. Sanitation was poor Masks not required and we were only patrons wearing mask in confined areas. No hand sanitizer in buffet or indoor areas no cups at outdoor bars and just hand wash rinse on cups at coffee bar. Limited or no supply of expected food at buffet no butter, jam or peanut butter. No potatoes of any kind, no bacon or sausages and no French fries Hot foods were barely warm Room amenities -ant or nit problem on surfaces of bathroom and bed tables no hot water entire stay. Terrible sewage smell from toilet and outdoor areas as well. No bath towels available and no wash cloths. Had to dry with hand towels. Tipping for everything is expected. Tipping maids well and bottled water was quite satisfactory in the room Plus side to the stay was 7 days of glorious sun, sandy beach and beautiful ocean. Always lounge chair available at the beach and pool. Always something at the buffet that would be satisfactory to eat such as bread rice and salads. Desserts the same but always plentiful Recommendations if you go Take towels wipes and sanitizer Take personal cup for coffee and cold drinks Take bug spray and sun screen

Not a 4 star ⭐️ for sure but staff was great & (sport) facilities were good overall ! Everything is nearby (pool, beach, buffet, etc.) which was great to walk around quickly Food & room were the most disappointing things in our stay .. but you know it’s Cuba ! Beach & sea were wonderful !

The beach was the best part about this resort. All grounds and pool area was nice and kept clean. Staff were nice and very helpful. Reception gave excellent service and were able to help us out with everything we needed. Rooms were the downfall of this resort. Upon arrival, we had 3 single beds in our room, 1 bed without sheets on it. Our front door didn't lock and the air conditioning was working, but we could not change the fan speed or temperature. The following morning reception upgraded us to a different room that was much nicer. In the second room, we could not control the air conditioning again, but it was at a comfortable temperature. The bathrooms were clean and the room was always stocked with water. The room also had 3 small hand towels that were never changed for a clean one all week. We asked the maid many times for clean shower towels but weren't able to get any. She just kept saying no towels. By the end of the week, our 3 small towels were dirty looking. One issue we had at Muthu was no available beach towels. Every time we went to get a beach towel they told us "no towels today and no towels tomorrow too". We went 4 days with not having a single beach towel. Finally, on day 5 we were able to receive 2. We didn't use them on the beach however, because we wanted a clean towel to shower with. I would HIGHLY suggest you to bring a towel from home, just in case. Food at this resort was very good! We always had fresh omelets, meats, and veggies. Lots of food options that they would cook on the grill in front of you. Service was good at the buffet if you left a small tip. Another slight issue we had was the bar kept running out of plastic cups. We forgot to bring our own reusable cup from home. I would recommend to bring a cup from home to avoid this issue! Overall we had a great stay and enjoyed the BEAUTIFUL beach every day. We played lots of beach volleyball, water aerobics, stretching, and soccer. There were plenty of activities to do at Muthu and we would come back again.

An excellent resort. Very friendly staff. Beautiful beaches. Food was best we have so far in Cuba. Would return. All our interactions with staff were so pleasant. The resort offered a Cuban Party with grilled lobster Amazing !!

To be honest the hotel is getting run down a bit, but they’re working on things like new comfortable mattresses, new bathroom facilities, new walkway/Bridges to the beach. The food wasn’t good the first day but the remaining 6 days were great, especially for Cuba, fresh breads, meats and vegetables. My favourite is the beach and the staff, the beach and the water are beautiful and the staff, they appreciate tips, smiles or kind words. I’ve been to more comfortable resorts but the staff are cranky and are often displeased if you don’t tip, whether the service was good or not. But at Muthu Playa Varadero, they aren’t like that, in my dozen trips to Cuba I have to say they have the nicest staff, always trying to give you a great vacation!!!

One of the best beach's beautiful grounds good food and good service they make good cappuccino every year they make new improvements dorris and lili make sure the customers are well looked after right up to the time you leaving

Room was clean and tidy. food was terrible, no bowl for soup, food rationed, no spoons, only fork and knife and poor variety in food . No milk for the last two days.wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

This place needs a wrecking ball. Must be West Jet's idea of a joke. After two days I demanded to be placed at another hotel, oh and they skidded me for an additional $ 425.00 No more Cuba and no more West Jet.

I wanted to enjoy my stay so bad... The resort is run down, the rooms are not clean at all! If you don't bring your own cup to drink out of.... Have fun finding a clean glass! The staff was rude and could care less about your stay. Watch out for the security guards if your a lady... They do not respect boundaries or care about age limits! My daughter was only 14! Do not buy alot of peso's as they only accept cdn $ at the resort and most places take only credit card! I will never at this place again or will be returning the Cuba for a very long time!

It is a little resort that means everything is near.Drinks could be better and food was okay ,always the same thing in the buffet entertainment was good but always same songs for the bad but nice cuba rythm beach is always nice and it was that reason we went at this resort was our second visit at the resort and our room was the best great view what we wanted staff very friendly but because of covid they had a limit of supplies they didn't have can beers or cola in the room like we usually do but we got a bottle of water every day, beer was on tap coffee,eggs,shrimp,rice,chicken and hamburger was good would I go back and I would say yes for sure but depends on price

This was our first time to Cuba and did not know what to expect. At first, it seemed a little run down but as we entered you could tell there had been some recent renovations. Rooms were clean. Housekeeping was great. Everyone was practicing social distancing for the most part and masks were still Mandatory. Cooks, Servers, and everyone employed at this Resort were friendly. A definite recommendation.

Hotel was much better than what I expected. Grounds were well kept, staff is cleaning and sanitizing on regular basis. Service was surprisingly quick. Selection of food was limited, but we never went hungry. Show time was amazing every night. Live music at the beach restaurant and in the lobby. Beach is stunning! This is the reason why we go to Cuba. The beach is amazing, shallow warm waters and soft sand. There was always free umbrellas, they sanitize the chairs regularly and beach was kept very clean. The covid test was done quickly, took 15 minutes, results came next day. It was great vacation!

Poor costumer service food at al la carte its crap the buffet is always same food everyday poor cleaning at the rooms bartenders dont know how to mix drinks rooms are old broken furniture showers are small and dirty and i got 2 ,rooms all the same ac controls doesnt work overall its not a 4 star and this is not my first time in cuba

The resort lobby and rooms were clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The beach was beautiful. Nice pool with a walk in area and shallow end for children. It was cold thought, but being Canadian, we still enjoyed it. The food was good. The buffet was not huge but there was still a good selection. It was about 20 minutes from Veradero by Taxi. Lots of palm trees and nicely kept gardents Overall we enjoyed our stay, and would recommend it to others.

This was a good place to be. The staff from the tour guides to the lobby every one wore a smile and always Hola Hola. The pool area was always clean and every guest wanted to be outside. The part i enjoyed most was the food always available almost 247. Most guests didnt know there is a clean microwave to reheat your food in the dinning area. Trust me i made use of it. My water bottle was always full with Crystal beer. I got the room i wanted with ocean view. Every linen was clean and crispy. I remember Theresa the clean made hearts out of our bedcover. Not forgetting Lucia a cleaning supervisor she was terrific. Muthu Playa i will be there again...

Old building, rooms was clean but had ants. Wall was damaged. Food was average. Great beach!! Had a parc for kids with play structure. not enough staff at the buffet dining room. Great pool for kids

This resort is transitioning at the moment. The resort over all is great. But a lot of updating needed still. Refridgerators in rooms not working, Dining room hours for Buffet do not compliment hours of snack bar closing. ie Buffet opens at 630pm while Snack bark closes at 6pm. I think that the buffet should open at 530. Food was good at this resort. Service was ok. Im surprised... Ususally service staff is more hospitable.

This was the worst resort in all my years travelling to Cuba. First they booked my sister into a room that was deplorable room 2006 they moved her then I arrived they booked me in the same room safe off the wall and no door lol. No beer in your room towels are non existent no hot water for three days the grounds are lacking attendance the burgers are hit and miss I had one exploded on me from not being cooked. The buffet is lacking waiters you wait to get a table that is dirty place mats and you wait for cutlery the wine is non existent The coffee was good at the cafe my cleaning laser was awesome oh the hallways are dark dirty holes in the wall doors falling off Paint is non existent I wouldn’t recommend this resort

The food was pretty awful, not much variation. Same food at all meals. Service pretty slow. Many of the rooms had mould around the air conditionner and doors. Beach is nice, however no beach bar or bathrooms super close. No pool bar. I would say this resort is more a 3 star, and would be a decent resort if gotten for a good price, under 1000$. Definitely not worth it for more then that

Second time at this resort. Positives: The food was good (both times), one of the best in my 10 Cuban vacations. The staff were up there too. Beach is beautiful, like all Cuban beaches, zero complaints. Negatives: The hotel needs some upgrades, and some cleaning in the main floor hallways; we also had nightly cockroaches in our room. No pool bar.

This resort was called Mercure and Playa De Oro before, but is now called MGM Muthu Playa Varadero. I stayed there 8 or 9 years ago, and the low quality just went down. Poor food, busy and loud lobby, old and decrepid rooms with mold around the A/C vents. This resort is barely a 3*. Buyer be warned!

The resort was clean, well maintained. Everything was close by; beach, bar, lobby, buffet, pool which we found was great.Our room was spacious and clean. The bed wasn’t the most comfortable but other than that we were very happy with our room was cleaned everyday, and had a good view of the pool. We had one issue with a bartender who worked at the bar by the pool evening time, he was rude, never smiled, would serve everyone before us even people who came after us. We had made a complaint to the manager and everything was taken care of after that. All other staff that were there were amazing always smiling and very welcoming. We weren’t expecting the food to be great as we all know we do not go there for the food but it’s wasn’t that bad the bread was rlly good. All to say we really enjoyed our stay and we were happy with our choice of resort.

Good: Excellent beachfront location, great long beach for walking. Good food options, best to get to buffet early. Bad: Customer service lacking, noisy late night activities makes relaxation impossible in your suite. Poor gym mostly unusable broken equiptment Ugly: disrespectful drunk patrons up til dawn

Needs some renovations but great layout and easy to find your way around. Friendly staff but some language barriers. 2 a la carte restaurants wear ok. Very nice beach and pool is huge. Definitely bring insect repellent

The people working there was so wonderful and taughfull. We went in December 2019 and a month later we went back again. The staff is amazing and the grounds and rooms are clean. There is 2 restaurants and a buffet restaurant as well I was told that they will add 2 more The resort is just big enough not too small Or Not too big. The entrainment was hard to beat

About meals: I don't eat pork and the absolute majority of meals contain Pork, even white rice and corn salad. I noticed at the BBQ where we can eat grilled fish but the person who prepares the grilling uses the same tongs to grill the pork and the fish. Which makes me can't even eat grilled fish because it is contaminated with pork. We must also leave the choice to people who do not eat pork to find what to eat. It is recommended to separate each compartment Pork-Beef-Fish-Chicken. In addition I found that the meals are too salty especially in the restaurant. Thanks

Very Nice Hotel With a nice Pool and very close to a nice beach. People are very frendly and give us nice service, BBQ NEAR THE BEACH. Every day several activities, The service was very good. I recommend highly Muthu Playa Varadero

This resort is always consistent for me. Have visited here 4 times and the staff are friendly, the grounds well kept and the most beautiful beach. Food is plentiful and the beach grill is amazing. I brought a group of 23 with me and we all had a blast!!

Staff courteous, helpful, accommodating and eager to please. Slower pace, not too noisy, lots of choice locations when outdoors. Well maintained. Currency exchange on site very convenient. Would recommend to friends.

A lot of disappointments. First, our room keys didn't work half the time. We had to run back and forth to get new cards which didn't work either so we had to finally get a technician (3 separate timeS). The door card didn't work about 20 different times if not 30. Twice the safe in our room would not unlock. Again, needed to wait for a technician and almost missed our day excursions because of it. Toilet leaked all week in our room ( half the bathroom had half an inch of water) and nobody could help to fix it or get us a new room. Also, me and my friend tipped the maid daily and at first all was well but the day we decided to triple our tip amount, they made our beds and that is it. No toilet paper, no cleaned towels, no cleaning period. 50 % of staff were good or great and the other 50% were rude or not happy to see us, tips or not and I tip well. I have never seen this in the dozen times I have traveled over the years. I am not sure if I will be going to Cuba again if this is now the new normal.

Our second time back this time for two weeks ! The service is getting worse - one day no water - gone for breakfast no one would bring coffee - tv not working for two weeks after being reported ! Phone not working - the food was to repetitive - two weeks and 6 days in a row roast pork - or chicken that's it ! Toaster broke down for three days ! Maid service always not complete ! Wifi not always working ! The good things were there was always alcohol - and great coffee shop ! My first night arrival there was no bottled water so I had to take night time meds with my pina colada ! From last year it just seems to be going down !!! Not sure if it's just January ????? Mother Nature was the best - the beaches - sun and sand !!

The hotel was clean. Maid Yeni provided excellent service. Staff were very friendly. No matter which bar you went to they always remembered your beverage of choice. A couple of complaints I have would be the need to change up the buffet with more choices and selection rather than providing the same options everyday for both lunch and dinner. Breakfast was exceptionally good. They need to provide more night entertainment shows for the kids; around 8-8:30pm. Then after do the usual entertainment show. They had 2 games per day for the adults and 1 for the children. They could do one between the children's entertainment show and the regular shows; providing they implement a childs show. I have been to 2 other resorts in cuba and this is how they do the shows/games.

This was our first trip to Cuba. The hotel entrance was very nice but the 2 out buildings were very old and dated. The grounds are very well kept and all the staff are extremely friendly. The food at this resort isn’t very good and I would rate it a 1 out of 5. We stayed in building 1 and it had a weird smell and mould in our rooms. This building is falling apart and needs a lot of work. Friends of ours stayed in building 2 and multiple guests complained to the front desk because they were getting bites all over them and didn’t know the cause. We all came home sick and no we didn’t drink the water.

Having been to the resort before we knew what to expect. You can tell they are spending money on some things around the resort like pool chairs, new beach bar, the lobby was refreshed. Wish they could keep the food warmer on the buffet, but decent selection. For the price of the resort, you can’t go wrong really. Beach is beautiful. There was a group of people who made it their mission to stay up making noise from 2-4am every night which was annoying, but that’s hard to control. Other than that no real complaints. Would go again most likely as the beach really is perfect and couldn’t beat the price.

We came back from Muthu Playa Varadero on the 6th of January 2020. We decided to go to Cuba for New Years as we have never gone at that time before. Reading all the reviews we thought this would be a good choice. There are a lot of repeat customers, some that have been there as many as 12 times, but we couldn't figure out why! My husband has an electric wheelchair, so the reason we chose this resort is because it is small and wheelchair accessible, also has elevators. On arrival they took us to the "wheelchair accessible" room on the ground floor, it was the worst room we have ever been shown in over 20 years of travelling down south, 9 times to Cuba. The room was visibly covered in mold and was musty. There was no shower surround it was removed and not replaced, so if you were to take a shower the whole bathroom would be covered in water and run under the door into the room. It was as if they had started to renovate but didn't get back to it. We did not take that room, the ladies at the front desk especially Mayday were very accommodating, we were given a key to a room on the fifth floor to go and see if it was what we wanted. This was a much better room with Ocean View that we agreed to take. The room was good except the mattresses which are just not comfortable. The maid service was very good and our maid was also very accommodating. At this resort the only thing they stock the mini fridge with is water, no pop or beer. The food quickly became tiresome, but the beach grill isn't too bad. You will not go hungry. The pool and resort itself is quite nice and accessible, but there is a lot of repair needed at this resort to bring it up to a 4 star let alone a 4.5 star. The beach was just beautiful, unfortunately it is not accessible for a wheelchair, they need to build board walk paths so that everyone can get to the beach. On the 3rd day of our stay, all of a sudden you could not get into the buffet for dinner without lining up for at least 20 minutes. Once you got in you had to wait for someone to clean a table for you, and fight the crowds. My husband could not get around with his wheelchair as it was too crowded. I had mentioned this to some people we had met there, and they said this was happening because the resort is full. I don't accept that as an excuse, if you have more people you get more staff. They could not handle a full resort. The first room we were given was in building 2 2018, beware of this room. The room we stayed in was in building 1, room 1419. The elevators work good. All in all this is a 2.5 or 3 star resort. We did not get it that cheap, so I feel we did not get what we expected, I know it is Cuba, but we are not unfamiliar with Cuba. I do want to mention that a couple of years ago we went to the Ocean Varadero El Patriarca not far from the Muthu Playa Varadero which is a true 4,5 star. We had the best food ever in all of the Caribbean. If we ever go back to Varadero Cuba we will go to El Patriarca.

Great - Staff! They were all fabulous. Everyone that we met (besides the front desk) was so funny and made us feel welcome. The beach was excellent Good - Location was good. Away from downtown and the resort felt secure The not so good - The food. Sorry guys but it was horrible. Everything including the alcohol tasted like it was watered down. *If you are going to Cuba don't expect good food from this area. We talked to others from the "better" hotels and they said the same thing, food was bad* I will only recommend this hotel based on staff

The resort and food was amazing especially the New Years Eve party the Managment and staff had worked so hard for accomadating everyone. The sand was wonderful and clean. So much too enjoy!! The only thing was we had to change rooms 2x, and when you get into the resort at 3:30 a.m. you want too have a good rest! Not here. The mattress was more then WORREN OUT. Springs were coming threw. Moved too another room the next day @ 1:00 p.m. and it was not ANY BETTER.. THE NEW MANGER OF THIS RESORT REALLY NEEDS TOO LISTEN TO THE COMPLAINTS of the guests and not have a DEAF EAR. This is not a 3* nor a 4* with its room service. very out dated. Plus the REPS, selling the resort packages really need too know the resort themselves as well!! I put my complaint about my personal hygiene that was stolen by the house cleaner and the MANAGER nor HOUSE KEEPING MANAGER DID anything for me!! Yet I gave away 5 bags of baby cloths from size 3 months to 24 months and 11 pair of good shoes for little children. We had a 7 day all inclusive and within those 7 days no one said anything to me. Pretty sad! Keep your personal belongings LOCKED UP at this resort. Plus 7 pair of new safety glasses were given too the grounds men. Too many complaints you heard about the beds and people moving out of building 1. Hope this helps the rep selling our package as well. You have too see it yo BELIEVE IT!! REGARDS DEB

Love it there, clean, safe, and food is good. Love the ocean it's the most beautiful water. Always something going on thur out the day . A live show every night . Lots to do Lunch bar by the ocean is a great lunch spot!

Our first time to this hotel and I would definitely recommend it. I went with my adult daughter and made some wonderful memories. The staff from this resort make you feel so welcoming and were very helpful. Lots of people from different age groups. The beach was absolutely gorgeous! The pool and room were good as well. The food was good but the beach grill was number one especially the chefs and Pedro who took care of us every day...I would recommend it 100%.

Our third stay and it’s still a good place to go. It’s worth the money you pay for. The beach, of course, is the absolute best! Beach chairs are usually always available. Noticed the new beach chairs by the pool...from what we’ve heard, some new ones will be available for the beach. Front desk service was always friendly and courteous. The bar staff (Dennis, Emiel, Lozzaro and Roberto) are forever on their toes serving up whatever it is you want and the bestest ! The buffet restaurant staff are as well friendly and ready to seat you and at your service. Can’t forget the cooks, although I didn’t get their names, my pasta buddy was always serving up a friendly smile! Also the “egg cooker”...you got what you wanted and always that smile as soon as I was spotted in the lineup! You don’t have to tip anybody but that dollar you give now and then goes a long way... I also brought bags of goodies (Christmas ornaments, toothbrushes and paste, dental pics, lotions, soap, clothing no longer wearing, pens, recyclable bags, mini candy canes, even maple leaf cookies) to give away...most of these went to the resort’s cleaning staff and grounds maintenance and beach boys...they are the ones that work hard and don’t get the recognition that the other do....and they are sooo happy when they receive something gotta love the entertainment staff as well (I can only remember Dano’s name though. The food is what it is. Everybody says the same thing.....bland, not spicy, blah blah...we are I their country and that’s what they got...you eat it and it’s all good...for a change? Don’t eat everything that’s available at a given meal....one day say you’ll eat chicken, the next take the pork or fish or pasta....just because it’s all available at any meal, doesn’t mean you have to eat all of what’s there. Also, you can bring your own spices if you want. This year, the resort did have hot sauce and even fresh garlic on most days.

They are updating this now. But all in all it’s very good. Great people. And amazing entertainment! Every evening was a new experience. Beautiful beach Very good service. Would be nice for destination weddings

So disappointed Old, everything is in terrible state door following apart wall, floors, elevator all the hotel are degradant. We felt like we arrived to a hotel after the revolution. I ask immediately to fix my door valcony foor ligths table literaly all folling apart. Food terrible,no flavor all the time over cook short on salt pepper at the tables, the turkey beef dry and tough.they serve over and over the same product until is imposible to eat. Food from the rest. "Ranchon" nothing good old dry testles. Some food even sour and spoild. Bartender are very rude. If you don't tip constantly they will not serve you properly. Or denied service like Orlando mean unrespectul lier and insulted us. Front desk terrible service no welling to give you information only they handle to you a flyer and if you there to ask for details they turn so mad. Always seating or talking between them and don't try to interrupt them. Definitely not worth it the price.

rained or cloudy four days out of seven so that put a bit of a damper on things.very surprised with the food ,had no issues at all was actutlly quite good thoroughly enjoyed the beef oxtail and stews.staff attitude much better then other hotels.always had hot water.room not cleaned one day reported to reception room was cleaned within an hour.went with very low expectations left pleasantly surpprised would recommend

The resort was close to downtown to enjoy the nightlife. The resort was clean and staff was mostly very kind. The beach was beautiful. Plenty of activities available on the resort. The rooms were plain but very clean. Not too much variety with the buffet meals but the food is good.

The thing I remember the most about Muthu Playa Varadero was the way the staff treated us like family. I felt safe, but beyond that I felt welcomed especially by the dining and bar staff who went above and beyond to make our stay amazing.

This was my second time going there, the service was exceptional! The hotel rooms are nice & could use an update but do the trick, the cleaning staff is welcoming & efficient. The air conditioner leaked but the repair man was onsite within minutes to fix it. I would & will be returning soon. I went with my parents & children & everyone is very happy!

We enjoyed the friendliness of the staff. The pool was clean and the bars were open when required. We enjoyed the barbecue. The staff members responsible for housekeeping were friendly and made wonderful designs with the linens. Swans with the towels. Thank you.

Our stay here was great, we had a wonderful time. The pool area, beach, food, entertainment and most of all, the friendly and attentive staff, four star+. The bus service to Varadero for 5 CUC's that you can ride all day was a nice bonus to see the area.

This was my second time at Muthu Playa Varadero. Overall it's a nice resort. I saw improvement since my last visit in 2017 in the resort overall structure, such as freshly painted walls and new updates seating. The food was a disappointment since my last visit and the service in the restaurants was overall bad. Last time we visited was much better food quality and server service. We visited two A la cart restaurants and the food was terrible and ended up going to the buffet afterwards and having salads as an alternative. It's a nice place overall, easy comfortable atmosphere.

Worst customer service, majority of workers are miserable with attitude. Food is repatative ,servers only come up to you towards the end of your meal so that you can leave a tip. Rooms need a makeover. Pool is decent enjoyed that they had a shallow end. Beautiful beach. The only good thing about this resort is the beach, the entertainment staff and it's nightly shows. They should change the show times from 10:00 pm to 9:00pm.

first day to this resort sunday noon till monday noon three plumpers to fix toilet. monday 11/30pm in bed heard sound --mans frame-- opening sliding door and removing chain from door ground floor room 1007 . made a loud sound and he took off, called front desk security can around but did nothing to fix door all night did not sleep, watching door for him etc to return. next day demanded new room now to room 1306 same building. manager took info but did nothing etc about it. next day we notice they put some one into room 1007 again o my foot prints in flower bed paint off the patio wall only at this location and they did nothing??? thursday smoke alarm going off in building notice from thursday night to sat: night alarm lights on ceiling units not on. they turn off power to them what if a fire ??? not a good setup no will not sent any one there sunwing rep: also did nothing took report way to go sunwing???

Other than a fresh coat of paint, the hotel itself was ok. I wouldn’t rate it as a 4 though. I found the service was bad. Not all but most bar staff would ignore you and considering we were the ones tipping I was surprised at that. We went the end of August and there were very few Canadians at this resort. Most were Cubans and they were pretty rude most days. I don’t expect awesome food in Cuba but usually can find something to keep me satisfied for the week. Here they were out of everything it seemed including sauce for the pasta. The store had nothing but rum and cigarettes. I’ve been to Cuba several times and I have to say this resort I will not return to.

Line up for the food. They refill very late or not at all. Safe battery died, and I was stuck in the room 3 different times until they managed the battery change!!! Staff is friendly and trying their best at beach restaurant and beach bar but looks like management do not provide enough food and/or utensils. Most of the time they are out of cups and glasses so only people with their travel mugs are being served. Showers look like upgraded but drain and temperature still problem... Many things to write down, but as a summary I want to tell that this is my 5th time in Cuba and I have never been this upset. I stayed 3 starred and older resorts. This hotel definitely not deserv 4stars. Beach is awesome but it is nothing to do with this resort!!! Pool was not clean enough in the afternoon when we checked in.

It was a great trip. I had a fun and relaxing experience at this resort and would recommend it to a friend. The clean environment in conjunction with the friendly staff made this trip the best I've had in awhile.

The place was dirty and unkept , food was horrible. I have been to Cuba 4 times before and I never have ever stayed in a place like this. The beds are like bricks ! The maid stole my clothes , wireless headphones and my rum I was going to bring back for my wife. I complained to the front desk my complaints fell on deaf ears . Do not waste your money !

Hotel rooms and grounds are very clean. Our cleaning lady Teresa was so good always on top of everything and excellent cleaner. The staff are very friendly and are will to help in every way they can. The shows are out of thid world like synchro, magic act and other fabulous shows. Some things need fixing like the gym has equipment that have been broken for at least 3 years and at least one elevator in each building is out of order, but remember you are in Cuba. I would recommend this hotel if your looking for an economical, friendly and clean environment and a gorgeous beach too.

Overall as a first family vacation, we had a good time at Muthu Playa! The people in the animation team were amazing and very dedicated to making us feel at home. Food... So, so... We ATE and DRANK A LOT! but We thought it could be better. The snack bar was nice in between meals... the only problem was the FLIES and BIRDS eating the food that was openly exposed. Rooms are decent, double beds, they even had a crib for my daughter which was nice since the beds are small. Cleanliness of the room was good, the ladies we had always did what was asked and even more. Beach was beautiful! lots of rocks but if you don't mind that it's okay. Varadero has a lot of attractions, so many we didn't get to do as much as we would want and even when I went out late at night I felt safe. Overall good vacation and I would recommend someone to go there :)

The shared facilities are good. The beach and the ocean are amazing. Customer service at the reception is good. Customer service representative (not sure about the name - Kardita?) was rude to me, she did not listen, interrupted in a very impolite manner, talked back to me and raised her voice, which is unacceptable. Cleaners do not put out signs "Wet Floor" - I slipped and fell on the wet floor and injured my knee - I am still in pain, visiting my doctor in Toronto - all the staff knew about it - no one offered help, no one apologized. The room did not have a shower divider, I could not take a shower because it would flood the whole space. The fridge did not have a shelf and I could keep nothing there. The phone did not work. Some lights did not work. After I complained I was moved to another room, which was better, but still, the phone did not work, they brought another one from another room, but there was no ringing - no one could reach me - and I did not hear the person I was calling to. It the first room with multiple issues the stand lamps were dirty, with greasy dust on the surfaces, which made them impossible to touch. Everyday cleaning of the rooms is OK, but the floors are not washed properly. I could go on and on. Overall, the impression of this 4-star hotel is not positive at all.

Very clean, Great lobby bar & Pool area. Awesome entertainers. Very nice beach area with parasols. Size of the resort was very good, very walkable - not too large. Buffet didn't have very much of a selection - food was much better at the a la carte restaurants.

Stayed here April 22-May 2nd/19...great staff from housecleaning to bartenders to coffee bar..if this resort had a bit of painting done to update it would easily be 4 star..beds were pretty comfortable..coffee bar in lobby was great! Beach was amazing of course..food was OK. .my husband''s first trip to Cuba and has only been to Jamaica to compare but he said he'd go back..you'll never go hungry..bread is terrific and fresh chicken and pork was great..snack bar was also good..smaller resort so easy to get around..all in all great trip! !

3rd time there....will definitely return....nice clean hotel...well taken care grounds...very friendly staff...and of course the beach and the ocean is beautiful.. specially love the grill on the beach....overall it's a good bang for your buck.

Seemed more like 2 stars instead of 4. The rooms weren’t nice the hotel wasn’t nice.... everything was old looking. The entertainment was dry and boring. It was just whatever, definitely was not wowed at all.

Stay was from March 28th to April 4th Very happy with our choice. The resort was very clean and the staff were super friendly. Varadero has the nicest beaches by far from anywhere we've been to date and we've been to over 6 different resorts in Cuba to date. We know from past experiences that you don't come to Cuba for the food. There was not much of a selection at the buffet at all (typical) However.... We decided to try the beach buffet. They do an outdoor bbq.... OMG! Best food in Cuba to date. Not sure why they don't move that to the main buffet. Lots of flavor. Also don't bother ordering coffee from the buffet. Terrible. But there is a great coffee bar just downstairs. We definitely tipped these guys. Great coffee. We had heard a few people complain about their rooms not being cleaned properly but ours was perfectly fine. The pool would have been a lot cleaner if people picked up their plastic drink cups instead of letting them blow into the pool; but that is no fault of the resort. The one thing that we found was that the resort is extremely small but from what we can tell this was a bonus for the older couples as they did not have far to walk. We met a few couples who were super nice to talk to. One couple had been to this resort 16 times. This is the first time I will say this about Cuba... I will be back to this resort. Hope this helps anyone. Oh.. PS they do have coffee machines in the rooms now. Apparently this is a recent upgrade. When we checked online the resort stated they did not have them. Otherwise we would have brought our own coffee.

i think the staff was very nice and friendly , the entertainment personal was great as well , food was sucks as usual..snack bar was very poor..the beach bar and restaurant was awful..they were frying only sardines.

Ok, so I'll start with I booked this resort strictly for the price. The price was good at $805 for a single person. First glance, you can see it is dated and could use some upgrades, but is very clean. The grounds are beautiful and very well taken care of. Gardens everywhere! There was plenty going on throughout the day and a show every evening. Unfortunately I didnt make it out to the shows due to the no-see-ums. They were pretty bad after dark by the beach and the shows were at the outdoor venue, although they do have an indoor venue that they do not use, and I'm not sure why. A band played every evening in the lobby, and they were fantastic! Everyone always dancing while they played and the animation team made sure of it! Kudos to the animation team! Every night they were teaching salsa, mambo, merengue, etc and had a great time doing it. The drinks were plenty and the pina coladas were perfection! The food was the same every day. Not terrible, but not great. Bring snacks from home or go into town and eat at one of the fantastic restaurants in varadero. Check in was pretty easy, as well as check out, but dont forget to bring your towel to the front desk or the clubhouse or you will be charged 15CUC. My room was a king size on the top floor, as I asked for. It had a partial oceanview, but was on the east side which faced to the back of another resort, where the workers came in on bus early in the mornings. If you're a light sleeper, I would ask for maybe the west side of the building. I really didnt mind that much though as I hardly sleep on vacation. My room could definitely use some updating. The bathroom had been, but the rest of the room had not. The ac did not work, but it didn't bother me, so I didn't complain about it. My room key stopped working on more than one occasion, which when exhausted at 2am was a little annoying, needing to walk back to the front desk 3 times. They got me into my room, so it is what it is. The beach was very nice. Loved walking through the overgrown trees out the the beach. It was groomed every day, white sand, turquoise water, beautiful! Plenty of loungers that I saw, both on the beach and at the pool. The pool is a fairly decent size, with a 0% end for the smaller kiddies to get in safely. I didnt actually go in the pool, not a huge fan, especially when you have a beach right there! The pool bar was great, but wish they used the swim up bar, maybe then I would have gone in? I did not use the gym, but some girls I met said they went to use it and more than half the equipment is either broken or missing pieces and unusable. I would avoid it and maybe go for a jog if you really need to workout while on vacay. The gift and smoke shop is well stocked, but if you need anything, be sure to do so no late that 6pm could it could close at any minute, even though it says it's open until 9pm. The Italian al a carte was the best of the three I ate at. I would not suggest the Cuban or the international. Maybe I just didnt choose the right meals, but I didnt really enjoy any of the food at this resort. There is a disco right on site that is also part of the all inclusive. The DJ was fantastic! I didnt stop dancing the entire night I was there. Great mix of Spanish and top 40 dance type music. Overall, for the value, I would say it was worth it. Not too sure i would return, although the animation team and the bartenders there were fantastic. They would be the reasons I would return. Being such a small resort, you really get to know a lot of people there, which I really enjoyed! It was funny because I had met 4 or 5 different groups of people in the first couple days I was there, then I travelled to Havana for 3 nights. When I came back, they all knew each other and had been hanging out while I was gone! I thought it was awesome because you wouldnt have that at a bigger resort. You might not even see the same people at a bigger resort. I would recommend this place to any solo travellers or budget conscious people or families, looking for a nice beach, great entertainment, and smaller resort atmosphere!

Room we stayed in was a little dated but very spacious & very clean. Bed was also very comfortable. Pool area along with the beach area kept in a pristine fashion. Staff very friendly and helpful. Supper buffet was typical of all Cuban resorts we have stayed at. A la cartes were very good and enjoyable. The lunch buffet at the beach snack bar was simply incredible. Actually it was the best one yet. BBQE. Chicken, Pork, Beef along with fantastic jumbaleye and salads every day. Bar service and entertainment was top notch. Nice surprise was the awesome coffee bar! We booked on a last minute at a very reasonable rate. We will definitely return.

Had an amazing time last week. Took my wife and 10 year old grand daughter here and really enjoyed ourselves. The beach was beautiful as was the resort. It was clean and well maintained. Staff are so friendly and helpful . Bartenders are generous with the drinks and most staff speak English quite well.The pools were well kept as well were the grounds.Entertainment was available evenings with local bands in lobby area and excellent shows on main stage nightly. Food was good for Cuban with the high points for the breads and pastries and typical for beef or pork. Lots of variety with food also available at 24 hour snack bar and beach bar. The resort is not that large so everything is close and intimate. Always found chairs and shade at beach or pool. The best thing here are the wonderful staff. Hope to return soon.

Positive: service people are good and friendly, entertainment excellent, ground aerie is good, food and restaurant and dining room also are good, beach are in good condition. Negative: air conditioner in the room has only two stages ON or OFF because control panel not working, door to balcony not fixed well and difficult to lock, everywhere people smoking cigarettes even in the balcony

The rooms were a little old but the people and the food were great. We met a lot of people and the shows weren't bad. We are going back again in the fall. It was a little cool at the beach but around the pool it was hot. Rooms are close to the beach so not alot of walking. We fould there was a lot of return people that just loved it there.

This was my first trip anywhere and couldn't have been more pleased. Was a little nervous setting up everything and going on my own but Maria and tripcental were great. Thanks to all of the staff at Mutha Playa and I will certainly be going back!

Very good resort, clean, big resort but still has that cozy feel. Beach and pool were very nice and very well kept. Lots of good activities. I've been to Cuba 9 times and this place definitely has the best food! Also very wheelchair accessible (ramps, elevators, etc.). Front desk staff were very helpful and the rest of the staff are very nice. We were originally given a ground-level room and we changed it to one a few stories up and it was much nicer so if there is extra room I recommend asking for a room that isn't on the ground level. Overall a very nice resort and nice and close to the town of Varadero (there is a bus to take which is very easy) and a short drive from the airport which is also nice.

Muthu Playa, a small resort consisting of two old east/west buildings for guests, minimally decorated rooms. The bar fridge is not filled with anything and you need to ask for subsequent bottles of water. You also need to ask for more towels as they only give you 2 even if you're a family of 4. Our room had no bath tub. You worked the A/C by flipping a breaker switch. The buffet and outdoor grill do not vary much from day to day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We love Cuban food so did not have a problem with it, fresh papaya, guava, roast pork, fish etc every day. The Italian and International dinners by reservation are in the same restaurant near the buffet, the Cuban dinner is held at the outdoor grill; nothing special to write about. Only the bar by the buffet has a working slushy maker for the kids. They have a nice coffee bar near the lobby, and the main building overall has a basic no frills decor. Because the resort does not house many guests, there are lots of huts at the beach and spots by the pool. You become intimate with staff and they are all very nice. The entertainment at night is outside, not sure what they do when it rains. And across from the resort is a small night club. I would rate this resort 3.5* having stayed at other resorts in Varadero which we would rate 4 to 4.5*. It was a last minute booking and we had a great time nonetheless.

Small resort with amazing staff. Food was great, and the beach was amazing !! I would recommend going to Havana with Havana Jouneys ask for Gus! I can’t wait to go again next year, my new favourite hotel!!!

There are pros and cons for everyone. Small, fair food quality, spacious lobby, good coffee bar were pros. Laid back staff, lack of sanitary with food, lack of service, poor room quality were cons. Staff were friendly but they were not offering any service until asked. When asked they are working in very laid back manner. When you tip them they may become your best friend but again... Different personal experience may be the factor here. Room was clean enough but worn off. Some lights were not working, the mattress was old and the bedsheets were not clean nor changed when asked. Smell of mold in some spots of the bed. Yuck. AC was blowing at full capacity without any means of control. We were told to turn it off with the breaker by the front desk staff. Either full or none... Beach was good as most of Cuba beaches are. Food was fair with the selections, average quality. I guess this is good in Cuba standards. However the sanitary was the biggest concern. Staff were not wearing gloves and handling raw food. Flies and some wild animals (birds and cats) were frequently found. Coffee bar was excellent, with the service and the quality. Impressed with it. Bars were generally packed with people and need to tip or wait for the service. 10 min bus ride to Varadero downtown. Nothing else was in immediate walking distance. Overal experience was average but nothing wowed me other than their coffee. I would not come back.
