Been to Cuba 6 times and seasoned traveler...have always loved Cuba for what it is and our expectations are very reasonable...When every single thing you view in the resort is broken and filthy, I draw the line. I could write an essay on how poor the place is, but more than anything else, when we saw how dirty almost every wall was and the buffet juice dispensers were and just gunge and grime everywhere, we did not want to get sick...Long story short, arriving late at night, after we "thought" about breakfast, we went straight to the Sunwing desk and asked for assistance to another resort. We gave her a few of our choices and within a few hours, we only paid $450 ( for both of us ) more to be moved to the Grand Aston. Ida the Sunwing lady was very nice and the move made our trip amazing after that....sorry, but being a little less money for the horrible state of Starfish Varadero, I think it looks bad on anyone to market this place.

Food selection was good. Worst coffee I have had in my life - never hot and tasted like mud. Huge resort with lots of stairs, lots of walking. Limited availability of elevator. Badly lit walkways after dark. Not much to do after dark. TV was all static with few channels. Great beach and pool areas with good music, a canteen and interactive poolside activities

Every day we experienced something wrong at this resort. No towels or safe working in our rooms the first night. The toilet ran all night. The bed was very uncomfortable, was like a bunk bed mattress. When we asked to upgrade we were sent to a room with mould and a brown tub. So I guess we would want to go back to our first room ! Games played ! Then we were told at reception, that we could upgrade if we paid cash in American dollars ( because the visa wasn’t working ). Funny because it was working that morning ! Finally we were offered an upgrade with a discount in Canadian dollars for a bungalow( after lengthy conversations with sunwing and client services ). We finally get to our bungalows and my friend’s lock does not work at all so she put a couch against the door ! The next day her air conditioned was leaking and she had cockroaches in her room. My card for my room had to be replaced 6 times because it didn’t work. Then, finally my lock had to be totally replaced too! No ice and out of hot dogs at the snack bar. Dance teachers were not motivating at all. Many staff members were friendly in the buffet area and a la cartes and bars. Beach is beautiful but stay away from this resort. Worst vacation of my life ! Couldn’t wait to get home !

The environment was good but the hotel was full of bugs, and other insects and our all body were itching. In the buffet there were cockroach and bugs .The food not good and not enough to eat and no papar toilets. But the workers were amazing and friendly and nice and customer service too.

The food was all right but the same every day. they ran out of plates and wine. your choice of drinks was wine[bad] rum vodka or beer. Your choice of mix was fanta or sprite. this wasmy 4th year in a row going to Cuba, this was the worst place I have stayed.

Went to my first room discovered mold the doors didn't lock the toilet was broken and I left my bag on my bed and came back and discovered the cleaning lady rifled through everything. She was a big black lady did not understand English and I confronted her about it and her eyes told me the truth. Went to my next room the following day and it was disgusting. Water and s*** was leaking from the roof in the bathroom. They gave me a hard time for changing my room a third time. So I just endured it. The grounds and the beach were beautiful food was okay. I definitely would not recommend this hotel.

There is no any security staff or lifeguard on pools, but 3-4 securities and lifeguards are sleeping on the beach Despite "no smoking" signs - people are smoking everywhere and react very hostile on our request not to smoke. Hotel staff absolutely ignorant to enforce a non smoking policy People are smoking inside the pool and dropping cigarettes and ashes into the pool Restaurant staff absolutely do not speak or understand English and thus cannot be an efficient in providing a proper service Room - balcony door has broken lock, sink was clogged, bathroom door could not open and close properly - stuck onto the floor Elevators has no proper signage and very confusing, because you cannot figure out a correct button

It was ok for the price I paid. The food was not good at all . My room was ok,although the washroom ,had difficulties. I was considered lucky. The entertainment was pretty poor. And the sports room,was so I'll equipped. I even had a fall,with a wet floor. The bars had a very poor selection and no coke for a national drink " Havana Libre.".

We booked this resort last minute as we needed the beach and this did not disappoint. The grounds are beautiful and mature. We stayed in a bungalow and loved the location close to the beach. As it was a low occupancy week (thus the price) the chairs at the pool and on the beach were plentiful. I think we had the best stretch of beach compared to surrounding resorts. As this was Cuba there were limited selections at the buffet, often no ice at the bar and basically only rum most times. There was one buffet and a snack bar at the pool. We went to the other 'quiet' pool which was empty and had it to ourselves when we needed a beach break. Staff were fantastic and made the vacation.

We recently returned from a stay at this resort in Cuba and had a mixed experience overall. The beach was by far the highlight—stunning white sand, clear turquoise water, and plenty of space to relax. The resort grounds were clean and peaceful. We stayed in a garden view room, which was quiet but quite a walk from the main areas. Since I don’t like using elevators, getting to and from the room involved several flights of stairs, which became tiring. The food was okay. The buffet and snack bar were the only regular dining options available during our stay, as the other restaurants weren’t open. We did try one of the à la carte restaurants, and the food and service there were excellent. It would’ve been nice to have more variety throughout the week. Unfortunately, I experienced food poisoning during the trip and felt unwell for several days, which made it difficult to fully enjoy the vacation. I wasn’t able to eat much, and it was challenging to recover—especially since food couldn’t be brought back to the room. Despite that, we still managed to have a good time, and the beautiful beach definitely made the trip memorable.

We just returned from a wonderful stay at Starfish Varadero. We were very mindful of the shortages and challenges currently facing Cuba, so went with a sense of adventure. What we discovered was a huge bungalow, with amenities to suit all of our family. Plentiful and varied food, with something for everyone, both traditional Cuban fare and more North American options than we expected. We certainly ate well! Check out Milans for a finer dining option. The staff were welcoming, and we really connected with a man on the entertainment team, Neslon. There was always something to do or see, and we were happily alternating between activities and relaxing. The beach is stellar, clean and well maintained, with water sports available. The drinks flowed and we were always able to access water. The resort as a whole was quite well maintained, and it was evident that a lot of work goes in to maintaining the grounds. We had an amazing time at this budget friendly resort, and would be delighted to return.

This hotel was a good bang for the buck. The grounds were well maintained and looked after. The staff were friendly, with or without a tip and I found that the staff in the buffet were exceptionally attentive especially with the crap they deal with from rude tourists. I found that nothing was lacking with regard to food, water and electricity. We had a superior room which was fine....nothing extravagant but had a nice bathroom, great mattresses, working tv and fridge and a balcony. The only downside is that the elevator was out of order most days. The only thing I would do different is book a bungalow next time ....closer to beach, own eating area and less steps. Overall, we were very pleased with our $800 vacation.

We had so many issues with our room including no air conditioner first night, air conditioner filters were disgusting, safe never worked, doors were hard to open and lock, toilet didn’t flush regularly, water for showers was cold or lukewarm, spiders and webs all over bungalow (was bit by one), only provided one larger towel initially, outside lights did not work. The hotel had limited wine and spirits especially no tequila. A la carte service was poor and trying to get into the Italian one was near impossible. Food was limited although not a deal breaker as this is understandable and we did not starve. Not having wine at the buffet is a deal breaker for an all inclusive. Tried to change into different room the first couple of nights and they did not have another room available. Spent way too much time at front desk, with Sunwing rep and customer service while trying to enjoy vacation.

This resort was definitely a good resort for the beach, pool, and activity staff. The food like anywhere in Cuba is the same at the buffet. We enjoyed the pool bar food. And had dinner at the spoons restaurant it was amazing. The main lobby’s of the hotel were nice but the rooms, hallways and a few other things could be cleaned up and updated. Our overall experience was good we would come back to this resort.

Just returned from another fun trip in Cuba. I have stayed at Starfish a few times over the years. We had a windy week and some good not great weather. Here are my pros and cons for the resort. Cons- grill at beach bar not open, nor the outdoor buffet near beach, didn't see that buffet open at any time. Also restaurant near pool was not open for anything as well nor bar near quiet pool, although was only there once. A la carte reservations not very organized, could not get one restaurant. Pros- Friendly staff, would engage with you by the pool and the beach at times. You can see they are trying to maintain the hotel grounds, seems they just aren't able to do it all. Evening entertainment staff works hard as well and does a good job. Olivio was also entertaining and very kind in a la carte restaurant. Overall provides great value for the price, would return, just ready to try somewhere else.

The bungalow accommodation was excellent. Lots of room in the bedroom(3 beds) and the living room was great. The walk in shower was a great bonus. There were 2 patios with chairs on each. The pool and a bar with a canteen was nearby. The buffet was on the 3rd floor of the hotel with eating space both inside and out. The elevator was not in use and the stairs made it a lot of work to get up there. The food was repetitive but there was certainly enough considering there were shortages. The beach was beautiful and when there is no wind the water very calm and warm. It was a good resort!

Overall, it was great, but some of the hospitality staff was ignorant and cranky. Resort was clean and never ran out of anything. I wouldn't suggest taking time out of your day to book with the A la Carte, Spoons, it was terrible. Buffet has it beat hands down. We stayed in a Bungalow, it was nice. Others aren't as nice but we got lucky. I can't speak of the standard rooms. Don't exchange your money with the lady on the bus from the airport to resort, she will rip you off.

The room itself was nothing to write home about, but the service was fantastic at every angle. Staff was super accomodating and friendly. We were grateful for the dictor on site, as my daughter left her medication at home. Tour and the bus drivers and guides kept us safe and we felt secure wherever we went. The weather was unbelievable and we enjoyed the adult pool with our fliating devices. Made friends from Canada, and left a few new family members back in Cuba when we left. Kiara, my favorite staff memeber always treated me with a huge smile amd sparkling eyes. She is why I am coming back. All around excellent stay! Cuba!!

Beautiful looking, clean. Lost 1 day of our 7 vacation days waiting for the check in. Front desk staff not friendly. We were told to put our bags in security room, then they would not let us access them without room key….which we couldn’t do because we couldn’t get checked in. Awful first experience. Rest of week was great….as long as we avoided the blonde woman at the front desk, who gave us dirty looks, then would disappear until we left.

The hotel is beautiful and well maintained. The staff are amazing throughout. From being greeted at checkin by Ismaray Dominguez, to having luggage transported by the witty Yasser (he said drinks are on him all week), it was a great start after a short shuttle from the airport. The bungalow was clean, a little dated, and the A/C issue was quickly rectified, but, the room is the place we spend the least amount of time and the bed was comfortable. Other staff that stood out: Jorge Yoel in the bungalow buffet, always pleasant, smiling, and provided excellent service. Maria Esther Valdez Alfonso for the land sports activities was very sweet, and loved to chat. Alfredo Rodriguez, concierge, chatted with us by the pool for nearly 30 minutes sharing a bit about life in Cuba. What a character. The beach and the clear blue waters were stunning. Windy certain days, as usual in Cuba, but, spent much time sitting beneath a parapa soaking up the sun with a cold beverage in hand. The restaurants were decent. Always found something to eat at each meal. Not great, but, good enough. Never go with expectations and you are never disappointed. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the food. Heard a lot of resorts did not have bacon or eggs, we had eggs everyday, and bacon most days and plenty of choice for dinners. A-la-carte dinner at Spoons was the best, the salmon was a hit. Missed having french fries to snack on, but, not the end of the world. The shows and activities around the pool were entertaining. I wish I could remember all the names, because all the staff were amazing. I can't say enough about them. Overall I give the Starfish a 5 star review and we look forward to returning in 2025.

We always enjoy our stay at Starfish Varadero. Stayed Jan 18th to Feb 1st. We like to spend our days at the beach but this year spent more time at the pools. Very windy , cool and strong waves at the beach for 7 out of 14 days. We enjoyed the entertainment especially the orange/foam party at the main pool as well as relaxing on the beds at the quiet pool. The gardeners do a fantastic job of keeping the grounds groomed and are always friendly. The food in buffet is usually cold and lacking in variety. Always pork, rice,pumpkin (squash in Canada),usually chicken&hamburgers, overcooked pasta, baked beans. Always delicious ice cream for dessert. Considering the situation in Cuba the past 2 years the resorts get what they can. We never left the buffet hungry. The a la cartes were always very good. We had a lovely salmon dinner at both Spoons and Milans. Overall for a 3.5 star and the price we paid for a 2 week vacation , we feel Starfish was a good choice.

I stayed in Star Fish Varadero in 2nd of week of December 2023. Food is as good or bad as any other hotel in that region. Beach: Great, white sand beach, clean and shallow, access to beach is perfect. Location with respect to Varadero: Not convenient. You have to take a taxi and each way the cost is around $25 US. Hotel Cleanliness: Floors, rooms and lobby areas were clean. Pest Issues: Horrible. I was eaten alive by BEDBUGS. I also noticed that at least three more guests were troubled by BED BUGS. Customer Service: Below standard. When I went to the lobby to meet Hotel Manager, he tried to avoid me. Finally, after at least 4 hours wait, I was able to meet hotel manager. The Hotel Manager tried his best to convince me that these hundreds of Bed Bug Bites on my legs and arms, were in fact caused by mosquitoes. In Canada, I consulted my doctor, who confirmed that these bites were caused by BED BUGS. I was also told that Star Fish Hotel Manager was aware of infestation of Bed Bugs in the hotel. I was not the first one to complaint about BED BUGS. Bed Bugs are notorious to hide in clothes, furniture, luggage, etc. In Canada, I immediately, want to a laundry mart and washed all clothes. Bed Bugs can spread very quickly. I will never stay in Star Fish Hotel. I could not sleep for three nights due to Bed Bug Bites.

This spectacular resort called STARFISH VARADERO Is the Complete Package. The food is Exceptional with a Large variety of dishes to choose from. The staff are Incredible and always aim to please the clients. The grounds are very well kept, Rooms are clean and inviting. Entertainment is bar none super with different shows every day of the week Truly an Amazing Experience awaits one and all including an ocean of Turquoise blue waters and beautiful clean sandy Beach. Come on take the plunge you will not be disappointed

The staff is very good. The actual hotel is spread out over a very large complex, only two small pools quite a walk from the Main hotel or if in the bungalow it’s a good walk to the buffet. I would not recommend this hotel if you have any walking issues stairs and stairs. Lots of people with the shits, FB post searching for people staying asking for Imodium Food was scarce have to get to the buffets early, or they run out (typical cuba) No excuse for the pre-made omelet’s on the flat top. I have stayed in much better places in cuba since 1983.

Starfish Varadero was lovely. Having traveled to Cuba 6 times now this resort is a very topical 3.5/4 star resort. The main lobby is beautiful. An open concept 3 floors, lots of seating, great wifi everywhere. The room was nice. The grounds are very well kept. Food was pretty standard for Cuba. Staff are lovely. Entertainment was the best I’ve ever experienced. We would stay here again.

We were in Starfish Varadero in Jan 2019, we felt it is a good place for winter vacation: nice beach, very good location, very good service and excellent seafood - shrimp and crabs every day :) So this year we booked all inclusive package to Starfish Varadero again with a friend's family and took vacation from Jan 15-Jan22, 2023 there. The weather is great, there are still nice beach and even better service, and the resort is maintained and renovated in a better shape, the superior room is also renovated and seems clean and fresh. What impressed me most is the management improvement of the resort: not-the-open-bar buffets now prevents a lot of the food waste; the cook style and taste for some dishes are much better than before (Thanks the chefs :); the front desk and bar service are excellent, even there is free wi-fi connection from the resort(I remember we had to buy card from front desk to use the wi-fi in 2019). Overall, whole resort is running smoothly. A little disappointed aspect is: I did not see a lot seafood in every day's supplier, did not see the shrimps, crabs this time. I hope the resort could keep the old food style to provide more seafood to attract the travelers. Another need-to-improve point: housekeeping keeps the sheets and pillow cases changed, but the inside pillow smells bad and needs to be cleaned up if it is not in the good condition. It is a very good trip in such kind of the cold winter to get sun-bathed:)

The story: We usually bring down treats (chocolates, candy and trail mix) to eat at night while watching a movie. One night we go into our suitcase and can't fine the chocolates. It was in a closed suitcase in the zippered up side with out other treats. Someone looked through our suitcases until they found the chocolates and took them. The same day, I had failed to lock the safe and the person in our room could have taken any sort of money and valuables. None of these were touched. Chocolate is obviously more valuable than money. The following morning we trashed the room to make sure they were definitely not there and then went to customer service. They said they would investigate and to come back later. We did and they said that there where only two times we went into the room that day and the maid once. We know this is not true because we could account for three separate ones. We knew we were going to get nowhere so we settled for late check out in exchange for a non solution to the missing chocolates. So my conclusion is to lock up your chocolates but leave your money out. We do not believe it was the maid either.

Food terrible! Paper cups for drinks. One coffee machine for whole resort (broke down)Had to purchase own wine ! Snack bar a joke, ham sandwich with less than a mm of ham or fish sandwich on DRY bread. Very low standards! Moved to another resort after 3 days , couldn't take anymore.

I was one of the nicest resorts I’ve seen the beaches were absolutely amazing the people were so friendly everything was so nice the place to be…. Great activities… relaxing.. cuba people are very nice and up full… room was good….. nicest beach I ever seen… paradise … GOD bless starfish Veradero

We had a ground floor bungalow and it is well worth it. Food, well, adequate is all I can say. Beach was beautiful, and water very very clean and crystal clear. We would return

We just got back from Starfish Varadero. What an amazing trip! Our room was upgraded to a bungalow and it was lovely. Close to the pool and a two minute walk to the beach. The beach itself was gorgeous. Absolutely pristine. We did three excursions, day in Havana with a personal guide (amazing), catamaran (amazing) and a keep safari (meh). The AC rep, Osvaldo, was great and helpful. My only complaint was the food. I didn’t care for anything. Super bland and zero taste. I suppose that’s not the resorts fault and more a problem with access to food and spices in general. But the absolute highlight of our trip was the staff. From start to finish, they went above and beyond to help us and make our stay enjoyable. They’re the reason we’re going back in December.

Food was really good. Nice rooms and very friendly staff. BBQ every day at the beach for lunch. I am disabled and was catered to very well. Arletys a hotel maid was a very nice girl very helpful.

Not brand new by no means but they work hard at cleaning and sanitizing and running a nice resort. Bungalows are great, older, but clean and spacious. We had a quiet location within a short walking distance of beach, pool, etc. The beach is AMAZING, AND SO IS THE STAFF!

Truely the rooms and hotel are beautiful the staff very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that you are so far out and everything closes at 5 or 6 including the pool when traveling with kids it would be nice for something open other then the bars

This was the first time staying at The Starfish Varadero, as it was recommended by a co-worker who has stayed there many times. We chose a bungalow as we were taking our granddaughter. We were impressed with the size of the bungalow as it was the largest “room” we stayed in, in all our 13 trips to Cuba. The main bedroom had a king sized bed, and the foyer room had a pull out couch. There was a coffee maker in the room which was a bonus and coffee was provided. There were two patio areas, with chairs and chaises for us to enjoy. The resort is expansive and there was much to see and do. Many of the staff members were ready with a smile and a greeting. The 24 hour snack bar served basic meals at all hours. Nothing fancy but welcome to receive at our late arrival and early departure.  Food was plentiful at all meals, never any shortages like other resorts we’ve been to. I have diet restrictions and I always found something to eat. The pools were more than adequate. The expansive lounges provided at the quiet pool were a treat. The activity pool also had a good selection; at the beach there were always enough for the guests.  We never had to worry about toilet paper not being there when using any of the public restrooms. For Cuba this was a first. I never had to pull out my plastic bagged toilet paper even once.  The scheduled meeting with the Sunwing rep was a half hour late. He was more interested in selling trips than telling us of the many amenities of the resort, of which we found out through word of mouth from other vacationers. We were first in line at reception upon arrival, despite our greeting we were not acknowledged nor attended to, other guests arriving 5 minutes later, were served first. This meant we had to wait even longer for help with luggage and to be shown to our bungalow. The bathroom shower had two temps cold and tepid. (a quirk for our room) We asked that the curtain be fixed as one quarter of it was hanging off the rod. It wasn’t, so getting undressed in the bedroom was not an option. One patio door was very difficult to open. The maid had to be asked for an extra blanket and pillow for our granddaughter. We brought towels so not getting the extra one for her didn’t really matter. I’ve read some complaints about bedding not being changed lol I certainly do not change my bedding at home on a daily basis so why should I expect it while on vacation. We look forward to having the full bodied Cuban coffee but this is the first resort we visited in Cuba that the coffee was weaker than usual. Massages at the resort 80 Convertible pesos, (“Expensive Lucy” especially so after the exchange) on a trip to the Varadero strip saw a sign boasting 15 Convertible pesos. This just might be the place we go to twice in Cuba! We discovered a Cave tour just down the road from the resort. This was extremely interesting and informative.

This hotel has had a lot of updates over the last 5 years, we always look forward to returning and seeing the new improvements. The beach, the grounds and common ares are all well taken care of. We stay in the bungalows and it offers a lot of privacy if your looking for this.

I was a bit unsure about this resort due to some negative reviews I had read online, but I was pleasantly surprised. The beach is an incredible tropical paradise with stunning white sand and clear turquoise waters that are perfect for swimming. The resort offers palapas for shade and plentiful loungers. The lobby space is nice with 3 floors to relax, including wifi access, a couple of bars and a sports bar/restaurant. Two levels had nice and newly decorated public bathrooms that were clean. The service was good at the bars. I drank a ton of cappucinos and have to say that the coffee was amazing at this resort. As a non-smoker, I did need to sit strategically in the bars and common spaces of the resort as there were a lot of smokers. Thankfully, the buffet was a non-smoking space. The food was ok, although I never really got my taste buds adjusted to Cuban food. The buffet should keep its doors closed so there are fewer flies. A few more serving spoons and tongs would be good, at least one for every dish. I noticed a few guests use their fingers to pick up breads or french toast rather than search for tongs. I spent most of my time at the beach, the lobby bar area and the quiet pool (there are 2 separate pool areas, one with entertainment near the buffet and the other on the same level as the lobby bar, walk past the tourist rep desks and you will eventually find it). Both pools and pool areas are very nice and well maintained. There was good singers, musicians or other entertainment on the terrrace starting at 7pm everynight but I never stayed long as I was bitten by mosquitos here. They seem to only come out at night. I never got bitten during the day. I was happy with my room. It was clean, no feared cockroachs showed up as per some prior reviews stated. The bed was comfortable and the room was cleaned every day. The air conditioning worked great as did the minibar fridge. The maid left a 1.5L bottle of water everyday. My room had beach towels as well as bath towels, however no face cloths. Bring your own if this is important to you. I brought my international power plug adaptor and had to use it to charge my phone as the plugs are 220v. The resort is a Cuban 3star, so there are small things that might bother you if you are a details person with high expectations. My room had paint splatters on the window. There was mostly hot water in the evenings (best time to shower anyways). The hallways and grounds had some chipped paint & tiles, carpets had some stains. Only one of the 2 elevators was working. The satellite TV was out of service for a day, but it got fixed the next day. Overall, I was happy with my room and the resort. The grounds were well kept. I would certainly consider a repeat visit if I book another trip to Varadero.

Rooms are kept decent, we had warm water no hot water. Card to safe didn’t work all week. Buffet will keep you alive. Very nice and helpful staff, work with what they have. Beach is beautiful, small pool. This was our 4th visit to Cuba, probably about a 2.5 star to Canada hotels.

Le resort en tant que tel est bien , on trouve toujours de quoi manger même si c'est répetitif , repas à la carte excellent. La plage est magnifique et il y a toujours des chaises pour tout le monde il n'en manque jamais ! Plusieurs petit spot pour de snack et de l'alcool en masse . Les chambre en bungalow c'était bien a part un plafond qui coule mais encore la ce nest rien de grave et je ny ai vue aucun insecte . Par contre j'ai vue des coquerelle près du buffet . J'ai trouver qu'il manquait d'animation , J,aurais voulu plus dentertainement et aussi la discotheque est fermé et ca j'aurais aimer etre au courant . Mais sinon dans l'ensemble c'était bien j'ai passer une belle semaine malgré tout !

I went into the Starfish with a bit of hesitation.. based on the reviews I had read and the fact that it is Cuba...I mean you have to lower your expectations in Cuba. The only area that lived up to the poor reviews was the housekeeping. The maids on my block only cleaned my room maybe 3 times the whole week. And when they did, it was just a lick and a promise and out the door. Bedding never changed once the entire trip! If you stay in room 8204, check the middle bed for a small red stain on the yellow spread. My son and I are covered in tiny bites that we are still suffering with after our return. Can I prove its from the beds...no. But I believe in my soul it is as we did not find an issue with mosquitos or anything like that. The rooms themselves are pretty basic, as all resorts in Cuba. Our tv actually worked though and carried a couple of canadian stations. This was great on the 2 rainy days of the week. We had hot water issues 3 times. Cold was fine, but hot would just not work. I admit it was getting annoying by the end of the week having to go down and complain each time, but the lobby staff were excellent and the lady in charge had it fixed within hours each time. Also, check in and out were a breeze! Done in minutes!! The food here is not amazing, but it is Cuba. The good thing is there are MANY options. We started eating at Sizzlers...the outdoor buffet...as the quality was far superior to the main buffet with about the same variety. Otherwise, we just grabbed a sandwich or burger at Legends...the sports bar on the 3rd floor. Limited menu, but the food is amazing and Dayami and Pabel are the best staff I have ever dealt with!! Open 24 hours too. The drinks are also better prepared here than the other 24 hour bar 1 floor down. The beach here is ok. I have seen better in Cuba, but it is still beautiful. A big bonus for me is they have security there...and at the pool...all night long. I didn't spend alot of time there because they have limited lounge chairs. Instead they use some sort of outdoor canopy beds. I had reservations about laying on the mattresses, but I'm not a huge beach person anyway...so not a big deal to me. I spent most of my time by the pool. The main pool is beautiful, but is apparently silent. So, if you are traveling with kids, don't go to that one as someone tried to have my teenagers kicked out for talking too loud 🙄 Instead, go to the kids area by the main buffet. This is where most of the entertainment is anyway. The bars here are good. There are 7 of them, with 2 being 24 hours. Good variety of drinks, but you can't get everything at every one. They all share the same drink menu, but don't make every drink at each one. They do well with drinkware. Some of them had to resort to plastic cups, but most used glasses. They run out of mint ALOT though, so you may have to switch up if you like mojitos. The evening entertainment is ok. They seem to have something going on every night, but it's hard to know where it is located. A good rule of thumb, is go to the Spirits Bar on the second floor. There was something there 3 of the 7 nights, but I missed the beginning as I didn't know what time it started. I can't comment on daytime entertainment as it was at the kids pool. I don't have small children, so I never spent anytime there. The location is ok. It's right on Resort Row in Varadero, but at the opposite end as the main town.The good thing is the hop on/off bus goes right there, so you can get into town for 5 pesos. It is about a 1/2 an hour bus ride though, so be prepared for that. Also, the bus stops running about 7:30 even though they say 8 o'clock. So, be on it or expect a 25 peso cab ride back. So, if you want to go to the Beatles Bar, I would suggest going in early, so you only have to take a cab once!! The staff here are amazing!! All friendly, all helpful and all with some degree of ability to speak English. And even if their English isn't the best, they at least TRY!! That is what made this trip for me All in all, this was a great vacation...other than the bug bites. I would definitely stay here again. Beautiful grounds, lots of food options, great security presence and wonderful staff!

We stayed in a bungalow. It was clean and spacious. Air conditioning worked great. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We ate at the buffet a lot, there was a wide variety of food. We had no problems with stomach irritation from the food, and this was our first visit to Cuba. The beach was beautiful and clean. Pool was nice too. Lots of chairs on beach and at pool area. There are a lot of mixed reviews on this place, but for the price, you can't beat it. We had a great time and are already thinking about returning

This resort has friendly staff, good food and a beautiful beach. The new beach bar and bathrooms are convenient and are a nice addition since our last visit. The buffet is always well stocked with a good selection, and the cooks at the grill prepare very good pork and fish. My son loves the pasta bar there too. I like the food because it tastes like it was made with care in someone's kitchen. The rooms are clean, but some mornings there was no hot water. Otherwise this resort has everything I could want in a vacation spot. The staff were friendly and happy overall. Of special note in staffing would be David Juan who waiters at the buffet restaurant, Yoadsis who bartends at the beach bar, Boris who works security and of course the bellman who has been at Starfish for 22 years and continually checks to see everyone is doing well.

This was our 3rd trip to Starfish Varadero. The food was fabulous, lots of variety, tasty and fresh. The staff is very friendly, excellent service from the front desk, bellboys, buffet waiters, cleaning staff, security and everyone in between. The addition to the beach bar and washrooms is excellent and convenient ,The beach along with entire resort is very clean. Fun was had by all,my 15 & 18 year old sons, husband and 79 year old mother-in-law. If the boys where out visiting with new friends they made and were hungry the sports bar makes burgers anytime, with 2 pool tables & TV to watch a hockey or football game it keep them busy in the evening. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. We will be back. lots of great memories

This is a three star resort opened in 1977. It has seen better times and is maintenance deprived. The bungalow was clean and well located. Shows are poor in quality but not in effort. This is a Cuban resort frequented by Russian Tourists ans French Canadians.

My mom and I have been to starfish in the past and heard they did upgrades, more like lipstick on a pig. We chose to stay in a bungalow as they're close to the beach and restaurants. Well, that's the only good thing about our stay. The bungalow had mold around the tub and around the A/C unit. I mentioned it on our review card that was given to us by the staff and they blamed it on the cleaning lady not doing her job. I highly disagree!!! We went to the buffet at all different times and it was always cold and same old same old. No variety and cockroaches on tables, walls, etc. A few times we did not eat at the resort because of the poor quality, we had better luck downtown. It's a shame we had to spend more $ when we already paid for food. We did love seeing some of the staff that we met before, Rocky, Amey, and Nancy are awesome people. The "Activity" pool is boring with the same shows every day and same music. When the staff asks you to participate and you decline they say "Don't be lazy be crazy"

This resort has beautifully kept grounds and has had many updates over the last couple of years that we have vacationed here. The staff are very friendly and treat you like one of there friends. This was my 4th time staying here and I would come back again. Did I mention it has one of the most beautiful beaches. Unfortunatly the chose of food has gone down which I think all the resorts are having trouble with at this time.

I staid in this hotel from September 25 to October 9, 2019. That was my first visit to this hotel. We travel as a group of 3 couples. We arrived at 10pm and got 3 bungalows even dough we booked Garden view Rooms. That time we were very happy because of that. My wife and I ask for second level room but got ground level bungalow on Pool area because second level room wasn’t available. We settle very quickly in the room and went in bed. First night was fine. Second night at 3am scream of my wife woke me up. She said “something” was crawling on her, maybe frog?! I checked in all three rooms in our bungalow (enter room, sleeping room and bat room), but I couldn’t see anything. We went to sleep but my wife couldn’t sleep. Nothing happened by the end of night. In the mourning we went to see Customer service manager Carlos. After presentation all facts we insist to move into second flour room. He promised us hi will try to find it. Noting happened. That evening we went to Entertainment show and came back to our bungalow around 10:30pm. When I open enter door, “something” run from bat room into sleeping room. I closed enter door and bat room door, my wife staid on front of bat room door and I went into sleeping room to check what was there. Suddenly, BIG RAT run out from underneath of beds. Both of us see IT run into enter room. I closed the door behind it and try to find the rat. No succeed. Before we went in bet, we put towel underneath the door. In the mourning we found towel with the hole in it. I took a picture of the towel us a proof rat is still there. See the picture attached. There is picture of rat excrements as well. That mourning we went again to Carlos with the proof, rat is steel there. He gave us new Room in different bungalow but again on ground level. We did not have a choice and took it. One day we notice 5-6 dogs on the beach. They lied in shadow of umbrella. Some time lather one lady was passing near them and dogs attacked her. She was screaming and starts to run from them. One dog bait her on the foot, fortunately bait wasn’t very big. That wasn’t our last trouble in Starfish. Last day I went just before the lunch, to have last swim in the ocean. My wife staid in the room to finish packing our staff. When I came back, I found my wife very scare. Lon mover guy cut the grass right on the front of our terrace accidently hit big glass wall of our room. My wife just suddenly heard big “bang”. A lot of small glass pieces hit her, but fortunately she wasn’t hurt. Few words about food in Starfish Varadero. Cuba definitely has problem with the food. Fresh vegetable we did not see much. Fruits little better. Papaya every day, mango and watermelon sometimes. Washrooms in Starfish were in terrible conditions. Very dirty and with sign “Out of order “ very often. Because of everything above, I’m not recommending anybody to book this hotel.

This place is awesome. I like the overhead shower and the handheld shower. The best shower I have seen in Cuba. I have been to Cuba for 16 times and this is the best resort by far when it comes to eating seafood. The resort is located beside the best luxury resort in varadero- the Royalton luxury resort. I got what I really want For the price that I paid in using this resort.

Yet another amazing stay at this continuously improving resort. All expectations met! Our 7th or so stay at this spacious beach front resort with wonderful and courteous staff. Thank you Osmin Curtis, Luis Miguel, Rocky, Aralena, Ydell, Gissele and the many other staff that has made our stay so great for so many years past and hopefully future. We have been frequent and loyal guests for several years and several times per year since 2015. Staff is extremely professional, accommodating, and respectful and helpful. If you do your research you will see this is ideal beach front, family friendly resort. It has the options of bungalow and hotel accommodation and two pools(one on the hotel side and one on the bungalow side). For piece of mind also, we noticed on this trip(June 2019) there was significant improvements and presence in the security staff(good sign in my opinion), not that we expect trouble...but it's nice to feel secure wethere first time stay or frequent guests. If you are looking for choice(Bungalo/hotel style, 30 second walk to beach, clear calm shallow waters)-this is the resort to be.

The resort is of a prime location. It is close to the beach, Marina, downtown Varadero. The staff are friendly.. Cafeteria and food was not hygienic. There should be more options for Vegetarian foods.

Accommodation: There are rooms in main building and in bungalows. We wanted room in bungalow. First room was very dirty, AC was leaking. We changed room, it was cleaner, but there was still leaking on the ceiling, toilet blocked twice, no hot water. We could not control AC, remote did not work, it was always 16 C (pretty cold). We complained, got another remote which did not work either. Location of the room was very good, close to the beach, pool, dinning room, stage. Talking to other people, seems like rooms in main building are in better shape. Food: Not very good and not much variety. If you cut cucumber in 4 different ways it does not make it 4 different dishes it is still the same cucumber. Bread and pastry were pretty good, twice a week they served smoked fish, which was good too. If you are NOT a picky eater, you won’t starve, there is always something to eat, simply not tasty at all. After 6PM only one bar in the main building is opened, if you watch stage show, it is far, not convenient especially with little children who want to drink. Beach: Beautiful, clean, shallow water, perfect for children, many chairs and umbrellas. Bar on the beach is very nice. For extra price you can go snorkeling not far from hotel beach, they will take you there on the sail boat. Service: Not good, asking for extra towels took 2 days, extra bottles of water – 2 days, first time toilet was fixed fast, second time we had to wait day and a half. All this time we went to the toilet to the main building. We asked to fix hot water every day, but it was never fixed, so no hot water for the whole stay… Also did not like attitude of some employees, like they do you a big favor serving you. Entertainment: Not bad, but nothing special Pool: There are 2 pools, I liked more one in the main building, second pool is smaller. Both pools are fine, during the day getting dirty, many plastic cups and plates on the floor. I wish it was cleaned more, not only at the end of the day.

Stayed at the Starfish Resort 5 nts beginning June 28th with my Husband and 13 yr old daighter who lived it. We were very pleased with our stay from the grounds to the service to the food. Loved all tne cats on tne resort ...Everyone is laid back genuine and willing to make your stay a pleasant one. Very pleased with Diana at front desk and Paula at customer relations for giving us an upgrade to a fantastic bungalow suit after our first two nights of being in a less desirable room in the Main building further away from the action and facing the road. Special thanks to waiters Rolando and Chavelle at the buffet restaurant which always had plenty of food to choose from. My only complaint was that there was never enough ice to go around and drinks were not the best but we came for the beautiful beach and relaxed atmosphere anyway In my opinion the griddle was tne best place for all your meals the cheese display at every meal was amazing so many different kinds, perfect for the cheese lovers and the Mango was to die for perfectly ripe and mealt in your mouth Over all I would deffinately consider coming back to the Starfish Varadero

12th trip to Cuba, first at Starfish. Stayed in bungalow section. Room was large and comfortable. Close to pool and buffet which was very practical. Service was exceptionally good. Food was above average.

This was our third time at this hotel, as always the most amazing group of people working here that makes this place so special. One of the best beaches in Cuba, good value for your money. Don't hesitate to book here, you won't regret it!

The hotel was very sweet, quite calm and not too packed. We never waited anywhere we went. The staff was really friendly, the drinks were good, the beach was astonishing. We originally booked a garden view room but upon arrival, the staff upgraded us to a bungalow for free, it was very big and nice and right beside the beach. Only good comments for the Starfish!

The hotel is very clean. There is always staff and cleaners walking around the premises as well as security and lifeguards. The hotel is very safe. Never encountered an issue with anything. Lively staff, good entertainment. However, the downfall of this hotel is that the rooms are outdated in the front of the hotel. The bungalows are semi remodeled and not all are re-done. The air conditioning does not work properly. Either leaks water or doesn't cool. The food is to be desired but on some days they do do special dinners consisting of lobster, shrimp, crab and lots of grilled meats.

The beaches of Varadero are the most beautiful we have ever experienced. The pools were also wonderful. The staff at Starfish were all very friendly and willing to help with anything needed. The grounds of the resort are well manicured. The room we had had just been redone and beautiful even though we had no hot water. The common area bathrooms of the resort are in poor shape as they either were not working or missing toilet seats and few had toilet paper. Therefore, we always brought toilet paper with us when leaving our room. The food was good and with variety. The quality we experienced was standard for Cuba being nothing special but we did not go hungry. Be careful eating at the bars of the resort as they have a tendency to undercook their hamburgers and hot dogs. We were sick eating at one of these places because of it. Therefore, I would only recommend eating at the main dining areas. The resort is huge so be prepared to do a lot of walking and climbing of stairs. We got our trip at an amazing price so we were more than satisfied with our experience. We would definitely return if our next trip deal is as good. We want to thank all the staff for their kindness and help as they made our holiday wonderful at Starfish Varadero.

I visited Starfish Varadero May 18th to the 25th with my husband, mom and 2 children. We had a truly amazing time. it was our 2nd time visiting the resort. The workers make this place great. Ronaldo greated us everyday at the restaurant and Livan was always a pleasure when making omelettes in the morning! The kids had a blast. Always things to do on the resort. Shows were fantastic! Our room was good , stayed in a bungalow and it was very spacious. The food was good - just very repetitive. A little diversity could go a long way :) They do a great job with their special pool side dinners if you fly with sunwing. It was delicious! Both a la carte restaurants were so yummy. I recommend the sur n turf at spoons. All in all we had a great time. Pools and beach were gorgeous. Truly recommend. Starfish Varadero, we will be coming back!

The resort overall was great other than the food. The majority of the buffet was cold! Everything else was very enjoyable, just important to note that a lot of the resort is under construction. Good overall and would recommend for a relaxing vacation

The resort was worth the amount of money i spent for it! The room was spacious, although there was a leak in the ceiling. It wasn’t a big issue! The beach was absolutely amazing, we spent all our time there! The pool was average, there needs to be more shade. The food was better than expected!

This was our second time back here to this hotel.Myself and the 3 girls go on a trip every year.We got upgraded the 2 times we were there.First the upgraded rooms and then the villas.We were close to everything at the villa.The pools are very nice but the beach is absolutely beautiful.

I stayed in this hotel about 5 times but this time I got very disappointed about all and I will not be returning back again. For 3 days I was not even having a beach towel in the room. My phone got stolen in value of 1009.00 There was a family in room 104 in bungalow that had their golden cross in safe box and it was stolen. I reported my phone stolen to Cuban Police and still hope for the good news. Overall staff is great, food amazing, great entertainment , rooms clean. Best Regards, Ana Maria Basic

Don't listen to all the negative reviews, they probably wouldn't be happy anywhere. Yes some of the rooms are not renovated yet but the ones that are, are very nice, there was lots of food and always something different, lots of seafood, shrimp etc.the grounds are well kept and very clean, the staff is amazing and work to make you happy if you are polite to them. THANK YOU BRIAN AND RICCARDO AT THE RECEPTION!!!!!!!!!!! YOU MADE OUR STAY FANTASTIC!!!!!We had the bungalow right beside the pool, a little loud but was so close to everything.always something to do here the shows were fun and entertaining. we never got sick and ate everything there everyday, 2 fresh bottles of water in our room everyday.The room was cleaned everyday, so GO! HAVE FUN!!!

The hotel ground were nice. There was always someone working to keep the areas clean. The staff was nice, friendly and helpful. The Italian and international a la carte was good but didn't care much for the lobster. The Legends24 hour bar upstairs in the hotel is good change of menu but the food is limited. The buffet restaurant is big, fairly clean seems like there is a bird inside daily sometimes around the food area. Downside of this buffet the food is often cold best bet to go to the cooking stations. We were booked for the garden view but when we arrived at the check in we were able to upgrade to the bungalow for free! Love the bungalow so roomy and clean. We heard from others in bungalows that theirs weren't so clean and they were outdated. Pictures on Starfish website are obviously taken a long time ago. Two pools at the hotel, both clean. One is called the quiet pool for "adults only" not informed but was quiet when there wasn't kids around, snack bar was close by and had decent food. The main pool was much larger and loud but nothing out of the ordinary. Downside of the pools they close at 6 seems a little to early.

This hotel was gorgeous! The beach is breathtaking. Our room was so nice, and our balcony was huge! The air conditioning kept us cold all night! The staff were sweet and helpful. There were many activities to do throughout the day! We would recommend going snorkeling it was unbelievable! We liked that there was 2 pools, one was a party pool and the other a quiet pool. My girlfriend loved the gym! The food was good! We will definitely be back to Starfish Varadero :)

This hotel has upgraded the facilities every year. Cuba day on Friday is a good celebration and the beach party is so much fun.The staff could not be any nicer. We did enjoy the coffee bar a few years ago but that is gone. The towel service was down when we were there because the machines were broken.Only two a la carte restaurans were open not three.The new beach bar should be finished soon.

The resort has been and still is undergoing renovations, they are almost complete. The beds and pillows are BRAND NEW as of Feb 2019. The heat pump in our room was also brand new. The food choices are great they even have a real BLT and Fries on the menu and it's delicious. The international has a surf and turf and the steak is so tender you can cut it with your butter knife. The food at the buffet was good too and you can believe it when I say that because for 10 years I have NEVER liked the food at any resort in Cuba until this resort. I would without a doubt go back to the Starfish Varadero again. The staff are friendly and so very helpful, if you go, tell ROCKY I said HI. The rooms in the hotel section are remodeled and have nice walk in showers in some. The bungalow where we stayed is quiet and private. They are clean, those maids work hard. We never seen ANY bugs, not one and we had a ground floor bungalow. We did see a cute frog in a plant near the lobby. Our room was always cleaned and we always had fresh clean towels. The girls at the lobby bar make a great coffee and if you eat or drink too much ask them for a stomach drink and you'll be ready to go do it all again. (Tell them I told you too lol) The pools are clean and they have daily activities at one and the other big pool is the quiet pool area with big comfy outside beds. We enjoyed mimosas and sunshine as often as possible. The beach is amazing, it's clean and has plenty of loungers and you can almost always find a sun hut to shade you. There is a beach bar and outdoor BBQ grill on the beach or you can go up the path and enjoy lunch at Sizzlers they have great lunch buffet and the soup everyday was so fresh and delicious. They have a 24 hour bar in the hotel section that serves food and has pool tables it's newly renovated with comfortable seating and a nice bar. If you get a craving for a taste of home food grab a cab head to Plaza Americana and have lunch at Pizza Pizzaza on the outside patio, order the bruschetta you won't be disappointed. While your out you can also go to the park and have a fresh pina colada on a paddle boat in the most beautiful scenery you've seen. If it's night life you crave check out the Beatles Bar at night, they have live outdoor band every night. It really is fun, they play rock a bit of Joan Jett too. Most importantly ENJOY your vacation and spend time with those your with.

The resort is not suitable at all for a family with children and strollers. everywhere there are stairs. all rooms and buildings are not served with elevators accept one building which has very old rooms with miserable situation but we had to stay in because of the stroller. elevators are super small for a person with a stroller! People there were friendly and trying their best to help. but the building itself is really bad.

Been 3 times 7 years ago when it was Aguas azules. And it was pathetic. Such an improvement. The food was amazing the a la carte and the service exceptionnel. Pay the extra for the bungalow its worth it! By the way Heather is our rep at trip central... and She is the best.

We went 4 of us to this resort, with our 15 and 17 year old. We were very impressed with the overall resort. Our room was updated, clean, comfortable and had all the amenities needed. Next time we would choose a room closer as our room was a little far, good exercise though. The buffet was amazing! We were very impressed with the variety. They had every kind of fish, meat, cheese, deli, breads, pasta station and egg station in the morning. The only suggestion I would have is to have a better cooling system for the cheeses and milk, a little iffy on eating them as they looked like they were sitting out for a while. The Sunwing special dinner was amazing, steak, lobster and shrimp cocktail. Very tasty! My girls loved the hot dogs! For Cuba the food was very good and they had food everywhere! Good sandwiches! Sizzlers had the best ham fried rice. The service was very good and there were alot of things always going on to be entertained. I would definitely go again to this resort. They have done a lot of work and still working. It is Cuba, everything is done in Cuba time!

Went here for a week in January on a friends recommendation. I wasn’t expecting much as people have told me not to with Cuba. I see so much potential could happen with this place if the effort was put in to upkeep. Our room was okay, but nothing to write home about. It was a superior room, but nothing about it seemed superior. It was cleaned daily, toilet paper semi replenished, but water wasn’t kept up. We had to go the bar for refills a lot. Staff did seem annoyed the majority of the time if you asked them anything or even said hello. This was at the front desk, and lobby bar and some cleaning staff. Found the Cabana bar staff and buffet staff very polite though. Food was good, but I did get ill from something I ate. Found all the cheese tasted sour/rotten. We didn’t get a chance to try the a la carte Outdoor lounge off the lobby bar is very nice at night. They had live music. We didn’t make any shows on the stage during the night. Found daytime entertainment lacking. They seem to be trying but doesn’t feel like they enjoy doing it at all. The septic smell was unfreaking believable!! They really need to get that under control. Walking outside it was like waking into a brick wall of gross. Bathrooms were very dirty or malfunctioning. Some construction was gong on. Painting, and courtyard repair. Nothing major. Would have loved to see the man made river working as it would add appeal to the grounds. We won’t be back as we’ve seen, enjoyed, but want to try somewhere more to our liking. I say they need to really overhaul the place and get it running to a way I am sure it used to be. Thanks for the stay. Good luck in the future! Oh and don’t bother mentioning a special occasion if you want it recognized. It won’t be.

Truly at a loss for words on how terrible this place was. Room was infested with bugs, (cockroaches) the room looked like some sort of torcher chamber with scratches all over the walls mold on the walls in the bathroom, the food was gross as well, cockroaches also seen in the buffet area as well crawling around the bread area.. I'm extremely disappointed and upset that I followed the recommendation of the agency for this vacation.. I fee completely and utterly ripped off

Our stay at starfish was great. We enjoyed the beach very much, beautiful weather.grounds well maintained. buffet was very tasty with lost of variety. rooms clean. overall the hotel was excellent, Staff very helpful, bartenders very good. The sports bar was nice but could use new pool balls and pool cue, and repair the fuzz ball table.nice quiet location. we enjoyed our stay very much thanks

We arrived at Starfish in Varadero on Dec 30 for a week. The resort is very clean, staff is very helpful. wonderful people. Helped us get to our rooms, the meals at the buffet were fabulous & tasty & lots of variety. Had lobster new years eve, new years day for lunch and supper. The waiters & waitresses were so nice, really made our stay so comfortable,it was nice that they accommodated 11 people at the buffet. The bartenders were great. The rooms were nice and clean.the maid brought you whatever you wanted. The ground were well maintained. The layout of the hotel was very nice as our last evening it was windy, so we moved to the back pool and got out of the wind, was very easy to find our way around very happy, thanks you so much

Every where you turned there was construction ( front lobby ,all fountains, main courtyard tiling and grouting ). They were having major sewage problems. The smell coming from main lobby was overpowering. To get to buffet and only 2 ala carte restaurants you had go down a new staircase that was being painted and welded together as we walked down it. The washrooms if working all had oval bases with tiny round seats on them. Interesting experience. We have been to cuba before and the food was repetetive but not bad. The weather and beach were great to have a family vacation. I will never return to this resort.

I have been to Cuba a total of 14 times. 10 of those times were to Varadero so I know what to expect of a local hotel. I received an email advising of construction so I was prepared. This particular hotel has a lot more downs than ups. Pros: the beach, some of the staff, the 2 a la cartes have good food, Oks: rooms are ok but in need of updating which is happening slowly, Cons: sewage smell right as you walk into the lobby, not one bathroom on the resort was working consistently, if it was working it was missing toilet paper, soap or water, some of the staff are pushy/rude, no variation of food in the buffet,

It was my first time at starfish varadero resort. I really enjoyed the grounds being spacious and despite renovations going on I did not find it overly bothersome. The hotel is getting the attention it needs and it will look even better with time. Food is something I cherish in Cuba as the Cubans do their absolute best and i always enjoy the cuisine. Weather waa great and hotel service excellent. Will be visiting starfish again!

The resort is big but it is missing some cleaning and some of the resto there is closed. However, the resort is to reste and for the family, not too much party there. There are great people working there.

Great hotel. 3.5 star food and drinks but 4 star experience overall. I can see why people recommend it and keep coming back. They upgraded my mom and I to a bungalow due to her mobility issues and gave us a late check out. The front desk staff was the best I have ever had in Cuba (10th time at a resort in Cuba, 15th time to Cuba). Snack bar was great and lounge area with a terrace with live music. Recently Renovated standard rooms. I had a blast here.

Le personnel est toujours au petits soins et super gentil et attentionné., La plage et la mer Wow un coup de coeur , la propreté et même la nourriture mérite d'aller faire un séjour au Starfish Varadero. Tranquilité assuré si comme moi vous voulez vous reposer ainsi que vous faire traiter comme un reine par le personnel qui est toujours à l'écoute de vos besoins. Des artistes se produisent chaque soir en musique et c'est bien agréable. L'animation est géniale. Ne manquez pas la fête cubaine le vendredi c'est génial! la nourriture, elle est excellente (beaucoup de fruits de mer ,langouste, cochon de lait ,boeuf très tendre....)les vins sont servis en bouteille et de bonne qualité. La qualité du service et le professionalisme des employés dans cet hotel est exceptionnelle. Je recommande fortement!!

First off, we weren't made aware that half the resort was shut down for improvements. Secondly, first day we had to request a room change due to toilet not flushing properly. Third, not a white towel to be had. Every towel in our room was once white and now are grey and stained. Forth, beach towels were only switched out twice all week. There wasn't clean ones each day, the ones we did get were like the room towels, stained with holes. Last and on a good note, the beach was clean and beautiful, the staff were awesome. Once the improvements are complete, I think Starfish will be a beautiful resort . Right now, it's very run down.

First time travelling to Cuba. Traveled with 7 people everyone enjoyed the week at Starfish. Beach was amazing always clean. The resort was big enough but not to big. The grounds were nice and always kept clean. The rooms were nice and comfortable. The food was very good A lot of people complain about Cuba food there was always something to eat for our group. Eating at a buffet here three meals a day for 7 days could also get repetitive. The staff was amazing they work hard and a lot of hours . only complaint were the dogs that come from the beach at night a bit scary. Security was willing to walk you to your room Was nice to have a bus at the resort to take you to town

Stayed in the renovated section, great room. Staff very helpful, food was excellent. Drinks plentiful. Al La Carte worth a visit. Beach awesome. Entertainment well done. You are close to the marina so will need to take the bus or taxi to downtown. Down side, lots of stairs in section 8. If you have walking or knee issues book a bungalow. Water pressure poor and lukewarm water in shower. Cuba is just an amazing country to visit, people are so friendly and you are so very safe to wander.

When I arrived there, I told the front desk that it was my first time to this resort I have been Cuba several times already. She told me to wait for the bell hop. The bell hop told me directions to my room and didn’t want to take me and my luggage to my room. I couldn’t find my room; so I went back to the front desk. The bell hop was annoyed and reiterated the direction. I finally found my room and there were hallways and stairs. The room was hot and the safe locked. I phoned front desk and no one answered the phone. I went to the front desk again. The bell hop told me that I had to wait for the engineer in the morning. I was tired and hungry and went for dinner. Front desk told me that the engineer was looking for me. So I waited in my room and the engineer finally came to fix the air conditioning and unlocked the safe. First time that I encountered such ‘unwelcome’ experience from a resort. So wanted to go home that night! I kept asking for bath towels 2 days straight. Housekeeping never stocked up coffee despite I left a note for her.

The resort is ok, but the a/c in all bungalows need to be checked. When we checked in our first day, we were in building 6. Only 1 room was ready so we decided to keep all our bags in that room and go eat. When we entered the room there was a foul smell, and a/c wasn't working properly because the room wasn't really cool. We couldn't increase the temperature since the knob was broken. Anyway we were there for probably just 1/2 day and then decided to change to a bungalow since we couldn't bear the smell. Anyway they gave us the key to a bungalow to go check it out and off-course those were bigger and closer to the beach so we decided to take that. But when we checked in there again the A/C in all do not work properly. One room was really cool, the second was ok and the third was warm. They don't even have fans. We actually stayed in those rooms for 1 night, but on the second day we couldn't take it and had to request a change. They changed 2 rooms, but off course the A/c in one of them was not really good but was bearable. They gave us a deal pay for 2 rooms get 1 free. It sounded good at the time but not sure if it was actually good since they charged us in US dollars, we only found that out after we got back to Canada. It was $50 for 3 people per day for 7 days. Anyway besides the incident with our rooms the resort is pretty good but I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone since they are many resorts where you would pay less and receive much more. People are pleasant, especially everyone at the Cabana snack bar, near the pool. They were amazing. Most days we enjoyed just having a snack or even lunch out there. I cannot praise them enough, service was exceptional. I don't think I would return to this resort unless they upgrade.

We have been to this resort when it was called Club Amigo and Aqua Azules. Now that it is called Starfish the services is horrible at this resort. We as a group of 5 people attended are last a la carte on Wed. June 20th it was the seafood a la carte. we got to the restaurant were seated then it happen we were indeed with flies and i mean 100's of them. we were finally asked to go outside to finish our meal as they had to spray the interior of the building. I would suggest to Tripcentral that they cease to use this resort until they start to care about there guests. We have travel many times to Cuba and this was the most horrible experience we have had and it just wasn't us every time you went to the lobby someone was complaining about the service. Bed sheets in our room were changed only once in the week we were there that is because we were in the room when they showed up to clean the room. The wife had an accident on the double-decker bus on Tues. June 19th. She fall on to her knee causing a gash that required 6 stitches to close. The hotel was no help regarding crutches or a wheelchair to help my wife to get around so she was confined to the room from Tuesday till we left on Thursday.
