What a great trip. Upon arrival you are greeted by staff ready to help you and check you in. The resort was very clean and the staff was super friendly. You cannot beat the beach- absolutely beautiful. The buffet was small, but they never ran out of food. At every meal you could have something prepared fresh on the spot. Every night there was usually two grilled selections. It varied between fish, pork and chicken. One night there was a seafood option and crab legs. The food was flavourful- I was pleasantly surprised. I quite enjoyed the soup. There were not any "a la carte" dinners to book, but they had a special dinner in lieu of the buffet where you were seated and were given the options of a appetizer, a main and a dessert and it was delicious!! The staff that worked in the buffet were super friendly and always greeted you with a smile. Towel service was great. You could change your beach towels whenever you wanted from the "beach house". The only time I heard of anything running out was hamburgers at the snack bar, but that was often later in the evening and were replenished for the next day, however there were still other options of things you could order from the snack bar. The animation team was great. The entertainment staff were so friendly. The only "disappointment" was one of the pools was closed (but I was made aware of that in advance, so it was not a surprise). On their website, it talks about a disco- however the disco is closed so there was not an entertainment option for after 11pm unless you went into Varadero (which is only a couple of kilometres away). A nice surprise was that on the website it says you have to pay for wifi. But you did not. It was included and was very reliable- except on the beach. Overall it was a great experience.I felt very safe. I would definitely go back.

The Hotel was great, plenty of food, clean room, staff was very attentive. I was disappointed that the deeper larger pool was under renovation which wasn’t disclosed until 2days prior to leaving for our vacation, but the resort was not very full so it worked out well.

This hotel should be closed to Canadians. It is a guvernement owned hotel that has the bare minimum and that's being generous. Barely nothing to eat, horrible service, cockroaches in the rooms, and not thr small kind. Hotel caters more to Cubans and Russians. Spent 2 weeks there and for the first time in over 50 trips to Cuba we couldn't wait to leave . DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL

This is our second time and we really enjoyed our stay at the Tuxpan. Yes, the hotel is a little older, but, its Cuba! The entire hotel staff is great, greeted us with a friendly smile and an "Hola" every morning. The resort is "Just the Right Size", you don't get lost in the shuffle. You get to know other guests and the staff greet you by name when you walk into the buffet or one of the bars. The food shortages were evident but they did an amazing job with what they had. The hotels have no control over what they are supplied, the buffet was repetitive with the staples of rice and pasta but they tried to do new things. Some of the best fish I have ever eaten. We never went hungry or thirsty. The little pizzas at the pool/snack bar were a big hit with us. Beach was beautiful as always and the pool was sparkling clean as well as the pool area. I do want to mention about the currency. It is a little confusing once you are down there and we received conflicting advice. The vendors at the markets prefer American or Canadian money and will give you change in that currency. They will take pesos but will charge you almost triple the American/Canadian price. The "stores" generally only accept credit card. The double decker buses accept credit cards or American/Canadian cash, which ever they are in the mood for that day ... LOL again, its Cuba! Bring lots of small bills in either American/Canadian and you should get by great. We had a lot of pesos left over and left them for tips all over the hotel. ** If you go out on adventures or even to the market, bring wipes or tp with you, the locals will charge you to use the facilities.

We enjoyed our weeks stay at Tuxpan Hotel. The resort is big enough to have all the amenities but small enough to appreciate the wonderful small staff. The beach is fantastic and the gardens are well maintained.

The hotel is good according to Cuban conditions. Service is really good, food is pretty good, clean beach and pool. The problem is location - you have to pay $10 for a taxi to go downtown, no shuttle from or to the hotel from the city.

Amazing, friendly staff greeted us all the time. The rooms are clean and the grounds are cared for. Pool was wonderful and the beach is the best we experienced. Do not expect very much beef but they stir fried chicken and pork for all meals. Pizza and sandwiches available when dining room was closed. Nightly entertainment. Considering the price we paid, we got excellent value for our money. Yvonne, our rep, was very helpful. Take American dollar bills for tips: these staff members deserve it. American currency is preferred by all Cubans.

The hotel was comfortable and had great service by the workers. Small and compact, everything I needed was there. Overall I had a great experience !!! The weather was great, actually it’s always good in cuba. Thanks again CUBAAA !!!

The grounds and pool were top notch as was the beach. The hotel staff as with all hotels I have been to are fun, friendly. However I found they would ask tourist way too often to fill their Bubba mugs with beer, at times it seemed like the tourists work as servant's to the staff. No al- a-carte restaurants and only one buffet. This us a very basic hotel, I would compare it with hotel Mar Del Sur, only with a beach. Again in need of do many repairs from steep steps loose or broken hand rails, no elevator, loose and broken tiles on all of the hall floors and out dated rooms. My group of 7 booked the Tuxpan April 9-16, the first all-inclusive AND first Cuba for all. I do not recommend Cuba for a first time all-inclusive. The plus side of this vacation: weather was awesome, beach/ water gorgeous, restaurants (those you have to book for) were awesome, our room attendant lady was great. Downside: Location is desolate if you are looking to explore the area on foot, the open top bus only dropped us off at a "high end" mall place which most of shops were closed and the supermarket were charging us a fortune for items, not to the Varadero area that we heard have restaurants and markets/ shopping. The food situation was bleak. The buffet that is daily is pretty much the same limited items through the day. It consisted of rice, beans, cucumber, watermelon others fruits (no banana or apple which was different), pork, fish, some desserts and ice cream. There was a "24 hr snack bar" poolside. Sad and disappointed that the only snack options I saw in my time there was a dinner bun with sliced ham OR a dinner bun with a scrambled egg. It did annoy me that the food service and bar staff expected tips. Selfishly my thought is that I've paid for an all-inclusive and I shouldn't have to carry cash at all. Also the fact that they make their guests get up and stand in line by 9:30 every morning to try to book for 1 of the 2 restaurants. We found that US cash was widely preferred, CDN cash was second choice when going in Havana or if you can find a market. It was an experience but I will be cruising next time.

Hotel was great & staff wonderful. Will be going back again to same hotel. There were great people to enjoy the trip.Grounds very clean & beach is wonderful. Would recommend this place to everyone, glad to have stayed there.

They were trying their best. There were shortages of some food - potatoes, butter, jam, cheese. Overall food was tasty and shortages could be replaced by other products. The staff was mostly very helpful. The best is location and beautiful beach. The hotel is old so rooms are stinky and tired but kept clean.

Hotel Tuxpan is very good resort, beautiful location, friendly service, nice entrainment. great cuba coffee plus +vine, make Tuxpan unique taste. one thing is need to improve is the water(cold and hot) and coffee service should use automatically machines instead people serve, it will be more convenient for customers.

Hotel Tuxpan is number one about beach in Varadero. Clear blue green water of Atlantic Ocean and white sand of the beach . Beautiful connection! Hotel by itself is ok. Restaurants are good. Service is good and very friendly. Nice entertainment.

The resort is located on the beautiful beach. The staff are friendly and always provide great services. The food is great with a lot choices. The hotel room is clean. The excursion to Havana is well organized. The ground transportation from and to the airport is easy to be found and provides convenience.

This is a very nice resort with a fantastic beach. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The coffee bar is very lovely and they make some amazing coffees. The room we were in was very spacious and the balcony had an outstanding view of the ocean.

Staff Amazing, Beach Amazing, food was good, pool Excellent, Hotel terrific. I will definitely be returning to Tuxpan. Bottle of Champagne on ice and a bottle of red in my room . Staff heard it was my birthday, the Champagne and Vino were a lovely touch.

This was my 2nd stay at this hotel & had the same excellent experience. Food needs a little improvement, but the Hotel staff & enternainers are beyond amazing. Highly recommend this resort easily!!!!!

This resort was absolutely lovely. The people were very welcoming and helpful. The beach and the views were amazing. The food did not agree with my tummy but please embrace it. We are lucky to stay here. Hoping to get another chance to come back!

it was very good ,weather sunshine water was worm no weaving food was good room was with ocean view i was dancing and enjoying time, a lot of trees and greens no raining at that time i like it and i will go again thank you Vera

The beach and the grounds are great, and a few of the actual staff workers are awesome, but that's where it ends. I paid for a VIP package and the room next door didn't. We got the exact same rooms, but I got pop and a few bottles of booze in my fridge during the week. We had the same buffet, same access to alcohol, same everything. Not sure how much Sunwing makes on this little scam ! It rained most of the week, which can't be helped, but there was a constant roof leak in my bathroom as a result. Was never told of any of my VIP perks, I had to ask the sunwing rep, who in turn had to tell them I paid for a VIP package. No lobster on site so I didn't get that dinner, not that they offered to tell me or maybe offer an a la carte, something ! The buffet was not good, even by Cuban standards. 2 stores on site and a few souvenir areas. The "store" refused to take anything but a credit card so I was unable to buy bug spray, snacks, or beer. The cigar store would only take foreign cash or a credit card so I was able to shop there. Only the souvenir areas would take the Cuban Peso which I had exchanged for on the bus transfer. FYI...the airport, bank and hotel would only give me an 18 to 1 exchange rate. The bus transfer gave me a 40 to 1 exchange, but warned me that alot of places in Varadero would not accept their own Cuban peso. They were right, could not get a meal, a beer, or even a bottle of water at many places. I went to Cuba with a decent amount of money I wanted to spend, but could only manage to spend less than 100 after almost 8 days. I've been to Cuba 11 times now and I know not to expect too much, but this was by far the worst trip yet.

For the price we paid, our group was very happy with our stay here. It is Cuba, so we were already expecting the food to be not great but we certainly didnt go hungry, nor did we get sick (a first for us & we've been to several different places). The beach bar had amazing fresh fish which we enjoyed almost every day we were there. Beverages were good but availability of some were hit or miss, based on available ingredients. The hotel itself is a smaller, older beachfront resort so one must keep that in mind. Rooms were ok...beds & pillows not as comfy as home but we were there to have fun in the sun, not sleep our vacation away. Bottled water seemed to be a precious commodity (1L bottle, not replenished daily) so once empty we ended up refilling it ourselves from pitchers available at the bars. Entertainment was good with games in the afternoon & nightly shows. We made our own fun most of the time & even played some baseball with staff who were delighted to do so! Speaking of staff, many thanks to Roberto (beach bar), Pablo(entertainment), Prinz?(DJ & baseball) Miguel (pool guy) and the many others who I've forgotten their names...we had a blast! Only issue we ladies had were the sand fleas/no seeums. Didn't bother the fellas but we came home with some very itchy bites! All in all, I'd gladly stay here again...just remember bug spray!

The staff was wonderful, very helpful and pleasant. The grounds, pool are various buildings were great. Even the food was good. The drawbacks are that the glass patio doors are foggy and need replacing, at least in the 2 rooms we used. The elevator lights and floor needs upgrading. And the toilet kept running in our room. But overall still a great place to go.

We had a great time at this resort. It was small and staff were friendly. Guests were mostly Russian but pleasant people when you get to know them. The shows every night at 9:30 PM were fun to attend by the pool and bar. The beach is a very close walk to the resort and is absolutely stunning. Try to get a room on the second, third or fourth floor if you can though as we had to switch due to the smell of dampness. Food is not the greatest, but you get to know what's good, and you just stick to what you know is good. The hop-on hop-off bus is great to get into Varadero and to the marina, but you do have a walk a bit to get to it. Overall, really enjoyed our stay there.

I have been to Cuba before and have loved it! This time not so much. This hotel was such a let down after reading all the reviews and watching videos, it was nothing like it suggested. First off the desk people were very rude and not just a bad day rude but all week rude and condescending. There was nothing to do with the kids at night because the clubhouse was closed at 5:00pm, so you couldn't play basketball or indoor pool table, sad. If you like to drink and get hit on then this is the place for you, do NOT bring your kids. The a la Cart was a joke! first off it was buried in the corner upstairs where nobody goes. We did not get a seating until 8:30pm and did not actually get in until after 9:00pm. The food was no better than the buffet, not worth the hassle and the wait. I will say the beach is gorgeous and the sand nice and soft, lounge chairs were always available and it wasn't overcrowded. I have heard similar comments of other hotels in the Varadero area. I will visit Cuba again but not this area!

We had a great time in Cuba! The food as this resort was the worst I have had and I've been to Cuba 7 times. I lived off spaghetti and buns! Also there was no entertainment person....other than beach volleyball nothing was happening on the beach....same show every night....on the board it said magic show for one night....never happened. I stayed at starfish before (also a 3 star) and the entertainment was awesome....tug of war on the beach, foam party, beach party, rum testing, and lots more....they sure got the guest involved and had a blast! I will try a different resort next time.

I am a repeat guest at the Tuxpan Resort . The reason I come back is because of the wonderful staff . The rooms are basic and the elevator never works but they are clean and a little exercise is good . The beach is absolutely gorgeous, lots of chairs available. The pool is clean and refreshing . It was not the high time for travel so the resort was not at capacity . My friend and I were the only Canadians on the resort . The food was ok , def gets monotonous after 14 days . We did attend the a la carte for some very nice dinners . It is possible to walk to Varadero , or take a cab for 10 dollars . Some very nice restaurants in town as well as the Beatles Bar and the Beer Factory! Do t forget to visit the coffee bar for some really well prepared coffees . It’s a hidden gem ! Again , I will def return to enjoy the beach and the sun and the friends I have made at the Tuxpan .

The people are great, the resort is very clean. The shows were fun at night and the pool is the cleanest I’ve seen in Cuba. The beach is Absolutely beautiful. The food is usual for Cuba and plentiful. Thanks for the fun Tuxpan.

I couldn’t comeback happier from this hotel, everyone was really friendly and willing to help you out in anyway possible. The food was fantastic, the hotel was very clean and the service was top notch. Highly recommend!

We have been to this hotel a dozen times and it has not changed in many years. Rooms are OK, the food is bland and repetitive, the only good thing is the beach. Thank God for that . The people of the hotel are nice.

Hotel is starting to get some renovation. My bed was new. Although I am not to fussy the one thing I really woyld like to see improvements on is the ground and tiles you walk on. On the eay to the bathroom behind the stage the sidewalk needs repairs. When you head hits the tiles it be dangerous. I was ok but lucky. Staff is amazing as always. The beach is the best! Food still needs some improvements. Pool needs some TLC.

I have very limited vision so cannot comment on many details. I had a very enjoyable time. Our accommodation and food was very good. I spent most of my time at the wonderful beach and certainly enjoyed our excursion and going into town. Staff were very supportive and friendly.

This is our second trip to Tuxpan, the first one being 5 years ago. We loved the people then and still do , they are why people keep going back. We did see changes this time that made it both more appealing and also frustrating. The grounds are very well kept and the beach bar facility as well as the pools bars are much better. The elevator that wasn't working 5 years ago is still not working and it made me wonder why people kept going back when there is no effort to fix them. But the most distressing thing was the cooks.Alexis is the morning breakfast cook and he is nothing short of fabulous but the cooks at lunch and supper are in real need of training. The cooks at the grills DO NOT cook the food, they throw hamburgers , pork and fish on the grill, flip it and serve it. We took ours back and explained to them to press down the hamburger and leave it on long enough to cook...timed them from throwing on , flipping and serving.. 1.5 minutes. You can't even cook fish in that length or time. I wondered if anyone was going to ask how the service was. I am not trying to be rude but instead helpful, they need to be trained on the proper way to work food because people were taking it back or not taking it at all. We are not looking for a major or big elaborate resort, we like the size and the people and we feel you would be as good a five star if you simply took care to train and monitor your cooks. By the way, the outdoor BBQ's were the same.. throw it on 2 minutes, turn it over and throw it on a plate. I sincerely thank you for asking our opinion and I do hope that it helps you to make Tuxpan the place it is capable of being .. Deb and Angus. This resort provided an amazing get away! Did I go in expected a 5 star Hollywood hotel? No. The rooms were comfortable, without being over the top (note: you do not care about the room once you experience the pools, beaches, and people). The staff was AMAZING all week. The food was great, even though I expected subpar cuisine–thanks to many friends' experiences at other cuban resorts (The man who made omelettes every morning was a force to be reckoned with). The resort is beautiful, the pool is well kept, the beaches are unbelievable, the staff were so friendly and truly took the time to get to know you. I honestly cannot say anything negative about this place. My lessons from my first time in Cuba? Stay on the resort to eat more, because the food is at par with the restaurants you pay extra for; you don't always have to go to the beach–the pool is beautiful in its own way and you don't end up with a swimsuit full of sand; and relax, have fun, enjoy the atmosphere and family/loved ones. The shows each night were magical, the drinks were always flowing and even the men who clean the windows take the time to get to know you. I will never gamble on another resort, this place is underrated– which I kind of hope it remains (although these employees deserve the world). Most people only take the effort to review services when they have a bad experience, I felt compelled to express my gratitude to this resort. Thank you for making a week to remember!

I dont know where to start, the staff, the pools, the service, the rooms, the beach, the food, everything was amazing! But the staff made our trip 10x better. Their positivity made our days. Our maid Laritza always made a figure with the towels whenever she cleaned out room, and it was beautiful.

This was our 7th time to Cuba but our first time at this resort and we were there 10 days. Our first impression, the resort looked great. When we got our rooms we were on the lower level and as soon as we went into the hall we could smell mold and it was musty. The room smelt the same. Later in the week, it got better with the air conditioning off so we assume that the smell was from the A/C unit. Otherwise, the rooms were clean and in good shape. The pool was awesome and the beach beautiful. The first few days the food was not the greatest but by Friday it was much better. All in all, this was a great resort and I would definitely go back again. The only issue for us was the 30-minute walk to the hop on hop off bus stop.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell everyone what a great time we had in Cuba at the Tuxpan. The food was delicious. The staff are amazing and kind. The beaches are awesome. I myself had to have some doctoring while I was there. The doctoring was also fantastic. Never would I be afraid to acquire their help if needed again. Our travel agent and airline were also excellent. Overall we had a fantabulous time. Would we do it again. You betcha in a New York minute. Thankyou for making our vacation one we will never forget.

We knew going in that this wasn't a 5 star hotel and that was fine with us. We needed a bed to sleep in at night and a place to shower etc. The hotel provided that. It should be noted that the food included in this All Inclusive resort is much to be desired. Not only is it extremely bland, it's not cooked well. Virtually any of it. Chicken is cooked to death, dry and flavourless. For beef, they shave huge chunks off of something and it's like shoe leather. They have some sort of cabbage that tastes like pure onion. I'm actually quite an adventurous eater. I'm not talking about food that doesn't chime with what I'm used to at home. No, no, I'm talking about food that they have put less than little effort into. It's clear they don't care and they're not even trying to present anything edible. The fruit does not seem fresh and that was surprising to me. It's a tropical island after all. And they served basically melon and water melon, pineapple and possibly one or two other types but that was it, every day. The food was the same pretty much every day. Little to no variety. In our room, the water for showers was warm some times and cold other times. It was the luck of the draw from day to day. Again, I had low expectations so this wasn't a deal breaker for me, but it should be noted. Also our toilet plumbing burst when we flushed it one day. It wasn't clogged or anything. It was the water coming into the bowl at the back of the toilet. Some thing broke inside there and water was spraying everywhere. I tried to turn the shutoff valve off (because I know to do that in these situations) and the valve was stuck. It was so old and rusted it wouldn't budge. So I ran to the front desk and had to light a fire under their ass because they seemed like they weren't in any rush to come. When they came I had already used every towel in the room to try and barricade the water into the bathroom so that the whole room wouldn't fill up with water. It was finally sorted out when the plumber came and was able to stop the water by screwing in the internal mechanism inside the bowl at the back, I guess the mechanism came loose and thankfully wasn't actually broken. Even he couldn't get the shutoff valve to close. So it's no luxury hotel and most of the staff didn't seem to be too enthused with their jobs or lives for that matter. However there were a few around the hotel who were pleasant. The lobby bar staff were great. The pool area bar staff had disgusted looks on their faces most of the time. Same with the beach area bar. Finally, we enjoyed the beautiful beaches and the included kayak and peddle boats. The staff that entertained guests with exercise sessions and games on the beach were great. All in all we made the best of it and enjoyed our holiday but only because we kept reminding ourselves to make the best of it, which in retrospect isn't what I would call a great experience. It took a lot of positive thinking and lowered expectations.

The hotel staff were friendly & accommodating while facing a very difficult situation. Some of the guests were extremely rude & challenging especially at meal times in the buffet area. They took over completely the bar & most of the common areas.

This hotel/resort has come under new ownership and is promoting heavily in Europe and Russia. Only one of the elevators works about 10% of the time. We were out numbered by Russians..like 3 to 1. The Russians take a lot of food..like all the food. So, as a result the rest of us didn't get any...and I mean no food. Black beans and rice were the main stay. They served a quasi beef stew with brussel sprouts for all three meals for three days in a row. Some buns..no bread until the last day. We spent a good amount of time hungry. The tuck shop was closed when it shouldn't have been. When it was open sold $7 cans of pringles.. Burgers were the main stay..and they were usually undercooked. not happy at all..the pool and beach area are great...as is the staff..but lots and lots of things are lacking. We won't be back.

Had a great time at this resort. They are upgrading most of the resort. It is a bit aged however for the price well worth the price. Food was better than expected. Staff were very friendly. Exchange your money at the airport the hotel had a poor exchange rate. Beach area was great lots of loungers

This hotel was very inviting! We were served at the table, didnt have to stand in line to get drinks. Check in was super, we needed a main floor suite, as I have been using a cane lately, they were very accomodating. Was kind of tough getting around with the cane, as there are steps EVERYWHERE...but just took my time! Restaurant buffet had lots of food, you wont go hungry. Fast and pleasant service in the restaurant. The only downfall of this resort is that the bus is quite a distance to walk to - especially when using a cane. Would have been awesome to have the bus come closer to the resort...I think that will happen in the future. I would recommend this resort.

This resort requires a lot of maintenance. Upon arrival check in was very slow and did not go smoothly. We then proceed to our rooms on the fourth floor, there was only one working elevator out of four. The one could not go to the fourth floor, we had to haul our luggage up. The fourth floor had ver few working lights, it was so dark we could not see to put the key card in the door without a flash light, very eerie. We complained every day but this did not get resolved until our seventh day. The cable cords are to short and we had to fix ours but even then it was to grainy to watch. The staff in all the restaurants were amazing and they helped to make our stay and our vacation very fun.

Having been to Cuba three times in the past 3 years, the previous trips where in April. This trip was in November and I realize that it was low season but the Tuxpan came up short. Soon check-in we realized that being put on the 4th floor and the elevator was broken so carrying suitcases up stairs was the only option. Elevated was broken most of our trip. Next morning reported that their where minimal hall lights on my floor ( one light for aprox. every 10 rooms ). I was told they knew that and would look into it 7 days later light was put in front of my room. Cable for tv was ripped out of wall and nothing but a bare wire to reinsert in but that was a minor fix by me. While having said that, the service staff in the resort (except front desk staff) where exceptional. They went above and beyond in every way.

Hi we stay at this resort one week and let tell you we love it my room was always nice and clean the people from the lobby bar they were the best the restaurant also the best the beach life guards they were the best I will go back in feb. next year un abraço para todos lós trabajadores del hotel felix

Room smelled like mold and was always damp.....the food was good but the same thing every day.....the pool was amazing and the beach was the best thing about this resort....the ceilings leaked when it rained

We just got back from one week at the Tuxpan. The resort in general was quiet, beach was clean and the pool wasn't busy. Food was average, not much variety each day but I always found something to eat. If you like fish then the buffet was great (I love fish). The resort staff were very good, always quick with a smile even though we noticed no one else was tipping (we tipped). The people at the reception were nice but not very helpful. I think they deal with a lot of unhappy people and just tune everyone out. The only complaints we have are the air conditioning didn't work very well and one night we had noisy people at all hours banging doors and talking loudly in the halls. This hotel is showing its age but still has a lot of character.

This is our second time at Tuxpan. The first time we travelled with our teenage children and friends, this time we travelled with our elderly parents. The size of the resort is just what we like, its very small! I gave this a five start the last time I went and this time I give it a three, mainly because of the cold buffet food. Beach and staff are 5's! Before I go in to any details, I want to say that the STAFF AT THIS RESORT IS WONDERFUL! Full picture: we paid more this time and didn't necessarily feel like we had the value for our dollar (even though we know we had a GREAT deal the first time!) Food: not much choice for buffet, although the main grill always had something good. The food was NOT hot or even warm in any of the heating trays which was disappointing. The beach food on was good. The snacks at the pool bar were also good (pizza, sandwiches, lobster that you pay for). Pool: getting a bit run down, broken tiles and a bit dirty compared to others we have visited. Always lots of chairs which is a bonus. Beach: as any in Varadero it is FABULOUS!! The biggest reason for Varadero in my opinion. Rooms: always well cleaned but aging. Ours looked over the pool and the beach side. We stayed on second floor both times and it is a perfect location. Access for Elderly: the elevators are unreliable and don't actually go to all the floors, so stairs are something that elderly must be able to climb. It was a bit of an issue for us ( my parents I should say). The tubs are also very high which was troublesome for my parents. There are no "handicap accessible rooms" at this resort. Entertainment: always someone playing around dinner time at the piano bar area and they were great. The night time shows didn't always happen and weren't as good as other resorts but it is something that is terribly important to us. If you are looking for great night shows, this wouldn't be your choice. Staff: they truly are the best! Everyone, at every location is very friendly and helpful! From the reception, to the wait staff to Alexis the omelette chef, all the pool bar staff and beach bar staff...they are the reason that people continue to return. It is what we remembered from our first visit and they didn't disappoint the this time.

The hotel is clean and the beach is amazing. Food selection was good. New variety. Love the fruit selection . They have a juice bar outside. The staff are very friendly and loving. Good to each other. You feel like part of a big family. Visitors from around the world mingle and have fun. We made many friends. Love the coffee bar.

all was good for the whole week a card problem a phone problem but no big deal but there was no entertainment at night only one night that we were there no big deal for us but it should not be advertised nightly entertainment because there was not

We stayed at nov 16 to dec 3. Staff was great and very friendly. Resort is having some renovations in the main lobby but that that is effecting your stay. Food was average, rooms were clean, resort was clean. Good value for the price. Beach was amazing spent most of the day there. Wish we would have had more entertainment but it was bad timing with the death of Fidel Castro. Would stay again.

Love the hotel, and it's people, excellent service, good food, and awesome daily entretaent and friendly atmosphere We got upgraded to VIP room and were treated like kings. Definitely will go back to tuxpan when we are ready to go back to Cuba

The Tuxpan is an older and dated resort. Most of the staff are amazing and go out of their way for the guest. Yandy at the coffee bar is the best and makes the most amazing coffee! Henry at the beach grill is fantastic and is always smiling. The buffet staff are not attentive to guest and often we were not offered even a glass of water or had to find our own utensils. The food has improved this year and having the option of wifi was a bonus. However the resort often did not have internet cards available. Rooms are your typical 4 star Cuban resort and could use an updating but were always clean. The grounds are very clean as was the pool. The outdoor BBQ's was a nice touch this year and adds more options other than the buffet and beach grill. I can not say enough about the beach, it is absolutely stunning and beautiful! The location of the Tuxpan is perfect as it is less than an hour walk into town are a short cab ride. I would return to this resort for the right price.

Great resort - people are friendly, the hotel and grounds are kept immaculate, the pool and beach are well maintained. The rooms are getting to be very bad. I don't see how Cubanacan can rate this resort as a 4-star when they don't want to invest any money in upgrading the rooms. Service is definitely impacted by the reduction in staff - they are still extremely friendly but now stressed because too much to do and no longer staff available to assist them when the hotel is full.

I was not going to bother but I wish to make sure that others are aware of this resort. This resort is in dire need of repairs and upgrading. The rooms are very musty and old but when you are away you really don't spend much time in your room so not a big concern for us. The beach was washed away with 3' drops and very hard to walk on. The food was boring and by the end of our vacation we were sick of the same old every single day. The pool was missing tiles and the Jacuzzi has not worked for quite some time as there were leaves within it and it was extremely dirty. What made our trip amazing was the staff which are friendly and truly care about your stay and will go out of their way to assist you.

The hotel is older, the buffet is somewhat limited..but it was good. Everyone needs to remember this is Cuba, they DO NOT have access to all we have in Canada. There was lots to do...we truly enjoyed ourselves.

Older resort with an outstanding beach. Good service, great location. For budget minded travelers, this resort is all that you need. Close to the town and airport which is another plus for some travelers.

We enjoyed our week here on Jan 22, 2016 to Jan 29, 2016. Just a couple of issues. Elevators are a little iffy so stairs aren't your thing this isn't your resort. Even with the elevators there are a lot of stairs involved. We didn't need the air conditioner while we were there but it worked. Rooms are dated but clean. We were to get a bottle of water every day but only got two for our stay there. It was odd that there was no water for the rooms but you could always buy it for 2 pesos in the store in the lobby. This is our 6th time to Cuba at all different resorts and but buffet here was not the best. A lot of Cuban food, don't get us wrong we are not picky at all and we are not new to Cuban food but there was not a big selection except for desserts. The layout didn't seem the best either. You had to wait in one big line up for whatever you wanted from bread to meat. No toaster as well. The pools are best we have used since coming to Cuba and the ocean walks were good as well. There is quite a step down to the beach (about a 2ft drop) as the ocean is reclaiming the beach. People did cut steps into the bank which made it easier to get down. The staff are helpful and Danielo at the swim up bar was the best. Like every resort there are always some arrogant vacationers who feel it's all about them, you know the ones, the ones that set their alarm to get their towels on the pool chairs. Some even saved pool chairs and took their room towels to the beach. It's almost always the same at every resort we have stayed at in Cuba. No worries here though, they got a shock when they found out there were always ample chairs for everyone; again, the pools were great. Do yourself a favor and go into town and get your self in front of the Beatle's Bar. Walk down the street to the left of Beatles and go to the end (just up and over a very small hill on the street). At the end just take a few steps to the right and you'll be in front of Waco's Restaurant. A great little restaurant and very small and upscale place. You can eat inside, outside or on the roof. The wife had the 1/2 chicken and I had the lobster tails (comes with 2). With the meal you get specialty water, a very nice salad, bread, potatoes, vegetables and a Mohito. All this and the bill came to 40 pesos. A cab from the Tuxpan to the downtown huge flea market is 10 pesos, then 5 pesos to the Beatles Bar and then 5 pesos back to the Tuxpan Resort, worth the trip and a nice way to spend a 1/2 day or longer if you like. We'd go back but would spend more time eating off site. Breakfast is the best.....Tip Your Eggman... ;-).

Trip Jan.20-27, 2016: Hotel smells like mold and bleach. Many people complained about mold in their rooms. Mold is very evident in the main dining lounge on the windows above the food. Rooms are kept clean though (if you don't have mold). Outside food service is very slow; I think they do it on purpose to save on people from ordering; hence, saving food costs. Food quality is very poor. It is like eating third day left overs every day. I will not lie, some people were getting sick but we did not. Ocean is warm and a 10/10. Pool very cold - there was only 2 people I seen go in it. Male main dining servants were rude. Budding in front of customers at the juice machine, not waiting their turn. Outside bar servants were great! They did a good job. Evening shows were all the same people, same dancing, just different songs and costumes each night.. all dancing. They need to do some skits or something different. I wanted a cheap place to get away but I think next time I will splurge a little more and get a better hotel.

Arriving to the hotel was great experience. The only concern was the cleanliness of the rooms and the lack of Internet wifi service. But good for the price we paid. Loved the beach location. Loved it.

Same food everyday, not much fresh fruit, or vegetables. no juices at the pool bar for mix. some of the staff were bugging for gifts even if they did not clean our rooms. Hours of towel change for beach towels were not consistent with the signs.

Enjoyed the resort and staff, very excellent experience. Distance from the local town is very nice even close enough if you are a walker you could even walk to town, and access to the local Golf course was excellent.

The hotel was clean; air condition worked well, the food was good, though not too many choices. Fruits were great. The beach is amazing - this is the crucial point. When a plumber was needed, he came promptly. The strange thing was one key for two people.

The hotel was lovely. We had a room on the forth floor and we were pleased with our room. Hotel grounds are very nice. Staff are really great too. There was a great selection of food and it was good, a big improvement since my last visit to Cuba where I stayed at a different resort. Stayed two weeks this time and really enjoyed it. Would go back to this resort.

This hotel/resort was mediocre at best. My biggest complaints are with the food, and the drinks. The food is not good...the best thing we had was some turkey at the buffet one night, and omelettes in the morning, and the rest was awful. We tried each a la carte restaurant and they were worse than the buffet, but the service was very good there, constantly refilling the wine, and being very attentive to us. The drinks were inconsistent. Some bars had some, others didn't. Getting a drink was like spinning the wheel. Mojitos at the beach bar, rum punch at the lobby bar. If we found a place to get a decent drink one day we stuck to it. The room was sufficient, but a little sketchy looking, and very dated. The beds were fine, we saw a lot of complaints on the bed before going but they are okay. We had to switch rooms because the air conditioning was broken, and we got a much lesser room, but it was "all they had", and sleeping without a/c is not okay. Despite the resort, we spent most of our time on the beautiful beach. Varadero beach is amazing!!

Beautiful location on Varadero beach. Staff was extremely welcoming and made sure we were always taken care of. Food was satisfactory. Entertainment was incredible. Huge applause to the Animation Team!

This hotel was very pretty , very clean , staff was helpful & polite ( especially Henry at the lobby bar & Danielo at swim up bar ) - however no internet available to even pay to use although there was a room that said internet ( was told I had to go to the mall to use it - I tired but only 3 computers and wait would have been over an hour and resort bank would not allow me to get money off my credit card which meant a bus trip (5 pesos a person ) to downtown varadero to go to big bank & 2 hr wait to get money . I found out this is the difference between a 4 star and a 5 star which I had stayed at before . I just wish I had of known before I got there to take more money & pay for wifi package -We met many nice people & walked away with new friends , shows at night were great , beach was amazing and water was crystal clear . A la carte restaurants were awesome & you were treated well , Buffet food was good for Cuba -Overall we did get what we paid for , a clean , safe & friendly place to stay .

We just got back and had a great time . The weather was great, the beach is second to none . Over all service was good and there was more than enough choices of food . Can't wait to return next year .

Even though this hotel is older it is well kept and all staff and grounds personnel are very friendly . Enjoyed Alex in the morning making eggs on the grill. The buffet is varied and no problem finding something to eat. The bars and entertainment is enjoyable and fun to visit and watch.

This was our 3rd trip to Cuba, 3 different hotels, similar cost. Greeted by a grumpy front desk clerk with very poor English. Other resorts were way more nicer than this resort. Most of the staff did not speak English that well. I noticed that there were more Cuban friends? on resort and seemed to get served first at the bars. Food was good but not much variety. I really wanted hot spaghetti (ate mostly this) and could not get anyone to understand what I wanted. Finally after 4 nights of luke warm spaghetti I found out the Spanish word for "more hot" and the girl cooking spaghetti would keep taking it off the heat or give it to someone else. They did offer a $10 lobster lunch at the pool bar which was really good so we ate there a couple of times. Breakfast was good as well. The dining area was two different rooms one where food and non-smoking people where and in the other you could smoke in... during meal times. Ugh. There were about 6 rooms with no balcony and that's the one we had. No fault of hotel though that was booking issue. Our daughter had several issues door not locking, safety deposit box not locking and tub not draining but hotel management switched her to different room the next day. (Later though we met new friends and they just happen to have been put in daughters old room without anything being fixed). Limited sun shelters by the pool however, people would get up early and put their towels on the chairs in the shade and then not sit in them all day. I talked to one couple and they said the people beside them have 4 chairs 2 in the sun and 2 in the shade. Nice little coffee bar, gift shop, & liquor store on site. Location is good and close to beach. Met some really nice people. Also met a Cuban family that were visiting friends on the resort. I don't know how long it has been but Cubans can purchase a day pass to the resort. I don't know if this is new or if it is only at some resorts. Overall, Cuba in general is a great place to go.

This property had a nice layout. Just a short walk to everything on the property. It is not wheel chair friendly though so don't book here if you need wheel chair accessibility. Although there are three elevators, there is stairs to the outside and buffet areas. The staff were all friendly, always a greeting of some sort. Tomas at the pool bar was excellent. He went out of his way to make us happy. Nice choice of snacks at the pool bar: hot dogs, ham and cheese, grilled cheese, fish and sometimes pizza. We ate lunch at the pool bar or beach bar most days. Buffet staff remembered what our usual order was, such as how I took my coffee and my husband having juice in the morning. Great selection on the carving station each evening, even lobster one night. Even picky eaters would find something to eat. Two choices of soup every day which were tastey. The beach was great! Did not have to go too early to find chairs. The beach bar had burgers and fries every day. We chose a bad week for weather as it never got above 24 Celsius and was windy for 4 days. We did not let it ruin our vacation. I recommend the Varadero tour and definitely take a carriage ride into town. If you ask for Hugo, he gives you a lot of info about Cuba.

Although the rooms need to be fixed up alittle, the Tuxpan was clean and the staff were amazing!! I liked that it was small and I didn't have to walk 5 k to get to the beach. Food was good with lots of choices. I would go back again.

This was a nice small resort easy to get around everything within a 5 minute walk.our room was small but very clean I found the whole resort to be very clean as for the food in the buffet it did not have a big selection and did not change much. But they had hamburgers at the beach bar daily and hotdogs ham and cheese sandwiches at the pool bar so you could always find something, all the staff were very friendly and helpful . All in all we had a nice vacation at this resort

The power kept going out in my room every 5m after I turned on the AC, and my passport/money got locked in the safe for 2 days. I called and went down to the desk multiple times (at least 10) on the hour because I needed my money, but was ignored ("maintenance will be there within the moment!"). Eventually (after 2 days) it was fixed when I asked the maid to get maintenance for me, they bypassed the circuit breaker and drilled the safe. They would not change my room. Music and entertainment is extremely loud all day if you are pool side until about 11:30pm. Most staff very lazy, not service oriented, will ignore you even with good tips. About 30m walk to town at a brisk pace- too far. Not a lot of options for food outside of the dining hours. On the plus side.. The room was very clean, and the beach was nice. The food and drinks were ok but not great. I would never go back. Tuxpan has left a very bad impression of Cuba on me.

Glad I went by the reviews instead of stars when I booked our trip! It was our first time on a tropical vacation and we're so glad we decided on the Tuxpan. The staff was amazing, the food wonderful and the rooms clean and comfortable. We didn't get to all the a la cartes .. But truth is we preferred the dining room best anyway. The only real downside I could say is they need more loungers. It's near impossible to get one.. And trying to save a spot early doesn't work, you just lose your stuff. We would definitely recommend this resort. And if you get a chance, get Aldo to take you on the tour of Varadero .. He was great :)

I have stayed at Tuxpan twice over a 4 year period. I admit the overall resort has gone downhill in that time, however, if you're not too fussy, it's a great low key resort with a great friendly staff.

overall terrible. food was horrid, water supply was little no none, food is left out in heat all day - got sick. rooms smelt mouldy, too many local people hanging around resort, besides the beach being the only attraction it was a terrible experience - its over rated - only a 2 star at best

I go to Cuba every year and the last 2 with my girlfriends. Food and entertainment was great! Staff was very accommodating and friendly. We met the greatest bunch of new friends! !!! There are no words to describe the beach!!!! We like to try a new place every year but will definitely recommend Tuxpan. Pretty sure we will be back :)

Was pleased with the Tuxpan, probably going back this year. It was just the perfect size, not too overwhelming. Got to know some really nice people and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Also, never know who you are going to meet on the beach.......my granddaughter is still seeing the cute guy from Ottawa (you know who you are).

Loved the small intimate atmosphere. We were in a short walking distance of everything. Short line ups during peak times for food or drinks and the people were outstanding. There many not have been as many activities for kids or in general that you would see at the larger resorts, but they do a very good job for the resort size. Some rooms were dated (but it is Cuba) but was always clean. I expected the food to be less than great, but i have to say i was happily surprised. When we wanted a change, we jumped on the bus and rode into the town and ate at a restaurant. I felt safe and secure doing so.

Very nice natural setting, we enjoyed the vegetation and the shade, the beach, the new alleys and the architecture and the terraces. Our room was not one of the renovated ones, so it was just OK. A/C in good working order and a must to compensate for humidity inside. Corner units must be fabulous. Very good entertainment. Hotel was not noisy. Food not that great in terms of variety and quantity, although we liked the soups. Walking on the beach to Varadero a plus. Good value for money in February, and much better value after the March breaks.
