This resort was perfect and I loved how small and quaint it was! Rudy, Barbara, Yoni, Anita, Yosemi, Hector, Reinel, Alex, Maikel, Jamilla, Eduardo, whistling guy and pizza guy were all amazing staff!

The resort was great very friendly staff beautiful views clean rooms and dining areas and a amazing beach looking out your own villa at the ocean was breath taking the entertainment and staff were fabulous Rudy the entertainment manager treated us like family the bartenders were very good and efficient at taking care of all visitors we had a memorable holiday and would go back there again all in all a great place to visit

We really enjoyed our stay at this resort. Its a nice quiet, small resort. There were no line ups. There were lots of beach and pool lounge chairs available. The bravh is magnificent. The rooms were in need of upgrading but it was no problem for us as we were only using them to sleep and bath. The staff on the resort were amazing! The only complaint I have is the lack of free WiFi. You had to buy minutes and signal was limited to the lounge/bar areas. Nothing in the rooms. Overall a good vacation spot. I will definately return.

Small and Comfortable. Best beach in Cuba as far as I am concerned. Very clean. Staff is friendly and amazing. Grounds very well kept. Rooms need some Renovations but everything worked ok. Buffet food needs improvement. Overall I would give this a 4 out of 5.

The resort is really old or appears so. Small. Service almost non existent. No plates, glasses, no variety of food. All the same. Waiters would not offer water or bring it when you ask them. Snack bar would run out of ingredients all the time. Could not even get a burger or hot dog. Bars would run out of red wine every day. Toilets didn't flush. Air conditioner was leaking leaving a puddle on the floor. Staff would not bring water to rooms. No clean towels unless you ask them. Same for toilet paper. Didn't sweep room or change sheets. Entertainment was poor. No variety, no daily live shows. Only had 2 shows in a week. Restaurant was closed for 4 days. When tried to book, the staff gave us confusing messages. As a result even when we tried to reserve it, they did not have us on their list.

The hotel left a mixed impression. On one hand the room was good-airy, high ceiling, no mould, no mosquitoes, excellent water pressure on the second floor. People working there are really nice. On the other hand the food was one of the worst in quality and selection until the last day, then it suddenly was quite good! The cocktails and coffee were good. The speciality restaurant was not easy to book but 2 meals there and the service were quite good. The grounds are a little abandoned and delipitated especially closer to the beach. Is it difficult to collect fallen palm leaves and debris from the ground?- hardly a day work. No tennis table or billiard and not even a show every night. The one show I saw was from a local team was very skillful and professional. In general it feels that it takes a manager or an owner who is interested to make it work and at this moment it does not seem that there is such an interest. Of course the location is very good and a beach is perfect for long walks, joggings, swimming, wading. I saw several big fish of the pier and went snorkelling. Good potential in this hotel. Cuban people, please give leftovers to your cats. Without tourists they are starving. And fresh water please, the chlorine one is not good for drinking.

We were here for 2 weeks on our 18th visit to the hotel! Obviously we love it! Things have changed over time for sure. The people could not be better! The service, welcoming, beach are 💯. Food can improve based on what I have seen in the past and water in the room everyday is essential! Other than that this is the place for us for sure! We continue to return twice a year, it’s like a marriage! Dedicated!

Hotel was older, as expected, low staff and low occupancy and also saw a lot of rooms not using or under renovation. Visited here Nov 23-30 2019 and never saw rain, always sunny with a couple spotty cloud days. No more nude beach as the MGM is fully open and taken up the older west beach area. However, discreet suntan lines could get worked on to the east, just before the hobies and kayaks at the last few palapas. Food was ok, lotta repeats, omelettes and stir-fry if you wan't greater than room temperature meals. Beach was magnificent, we walked every day to and from the east marina area and to and from the far side of the MGM. Probably not a place that i would return to but willing to go as a repeater to Sol Cayo Largo, just wish they were open in November, looking forward to going there in late winter/early spring 2020

Just returned, some changes from last year. The grounds are nice as usual and Beach is cleaned of seaweed every couple of days. Hotel not too busy so food choices a bit more restrictive. Rooms being painted, some need work still. Overall for the price we paid it was ok. Service was fantastic and our maid took excellent care of us.

This was my 4 time at Sol Cayo Guillermo, yes this is one of the oldest resorts in the area and does show its age . Rework in areas are being done, my room had just been painted before my visit, the main buffet restaurant was closed for painting and rework so all meals were at the ocean side al la cart restaurant, so not all the normal facilities were available such as pasta station/pizza etc. The resort grounds are in great shape, everywhere,the gardeners work wonders. The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful, as well the bar staff which makes it a great place. Food for Cuba was varied and well cooked, never was hungry or had stomach issues. The beach is one of the best in the area or in fact Cuba . The pool was just repaired / refilled and in great shape .

We loved the staff, they were So friendly and made you feel welcome We didn’t have any complaints about any part of our trip. The entertainment was a lot of fun to watch and participate in We can’t wait to go back.

We were told it was a 3.5 and it was. The beach was a 10 and so were the staffs. The rooms are in need of repair and the food (stayed at several other Cuba resorts) was limited. Don't get me wrong you won't go hungry but there was only one day with bacon at breakfast. Like other resorts they always had fries. Ran out of their equivalent of 7up most of the week. Overall I have no regrets going to this resort, if you like nice beaches and good service it's good. They need to start renovating.

The resort is not the fanciest on the island nor the most comfortable to sleep, however you are going to Cuba for the ocean and this is a great spot. The Gardeners are the nicest people on the resort but everyone is equally as nice. Food is good. Gets bland and repetitive but you won't get sick. Entertainment was fun. Pool is nice. I would go back.

This resort is all about the beach! Quite possible one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. The hotel itself has a few issues, The Beach and the swimming in the ocean has NONE. No issues. Hotel is in a dire need of repair. rooms very dated and many issues linger from the devastating hurricane only 2 years ago. The Sol is a diamond in the rough that needs a lot of polishing. The grounds boast bungalows that look like they belong in a designer resort, but as soon as you enter or climb the crumbled stairs, the illusion dies. Beds need to be replaced as well as pillows and blankets. Buffet food is okay, in fact quite good. The issue is the amounts: Get to buffet first call or risk no deserts at all. 6:30 door opens for dinner buffet, and 6:45 the nice deserts are gone. The a la cartes are quite good and worth the trouble, but they need a better reservation system. It seemed to change daily. Would go back indeed if we ever decide to visit same resort twice, as the beach was worth it. We got a great 14 day deal at a price that most people pay for 7 days, so we had a lower expectations that was surpassed by the beach, the food and the great staff.

My hubby and I flew from Hamilton on Air Transat on 24th Feb and stayed at SCG for 2 weeks. We flew out in very strong winds so the plane had to be lightened which meant leaving behind 28 suitcases. Fortunately for us our cases arrived with us and the others were to be sent on the next day. Our room 919 on the second floor was kept clean daily by our maid whose name I forget. She made sure we had clean towels every day and sheets were changed when needed. We had lots of hot water and a comfy king size bed. Our room was close to everything but care had to taken when going up the stairs as a lot of bars on the railing was missing. This resort needs many renovations and I read that it will close in May to do some of them. Food was good for Cuba and we enjoyed chicken, fish and pork cooked at the stations and really enjoyed the smoked salmon and shrimp, Cuban ice cream is the best, so delicious. We ate in the Mediterranean, Cuban and Italian al a carte's and found the food to be very good. The Lobby bar and Theatre bar had great cappuccinos and espressos and the staff were fast and friendly. All the staff at this resort always had a smile on their faces. We found Reception staff to be fast, efficient and pleasant and as we arrived late, they informed us that the snack bar had stayed open for us and to go eat and then they would find someone to take our luggage up to our room...which they did. Our friends joined us for our second week but they were not as fortunate as we were. The room they were given was at the very far end of the resort, a long walk, along a dark path. As we are all seniors this was not a good situation for them. They were told they would be moved the next day. That did not happen as the resort was full. It took 2 days to get a room closer to everything and then they had to wait until 5p.m. because reception or it may have been Customer Service allowed the present occupants to pay 10 pesos an hour to stay in the until 3p.m. Needless to say our friends were very upset. Once in the room they were happy for 2 days and then hot water for first shower and cold for second shower. Next day no water at all. They were offered another room but of course who wants to keep moving. This was an 80th birthday vacation for our friends so I tried to arrange a surprise dinner at the Mediterranean restaurant for the Mon. or Tues. through Customer Service. They told me a cake would be ordered and champagne. After much back and forth to Customer Service, we finally got a reservation but no cake. Apparently they took so long to arrange it that the cake was not fit to eat. I told my friend the story and we all had a laugh..Surprise.. no cake...lol All in all for my husband and myself it was a good holiday, nice memories with our friends. A good holiday for our friends but a bad taste in the mouth regarding the rooms. This resort will not be a repeat place for us all to go but I think a good place for families as the children seemed to have a good time and the lady who did child care was lovely.

This hotel has the nicest beach area and the grounds are lovely and well taken care off, the Cuban staff are so very helpful and nice, but the management have a lot to learn about tourist, We just came back two weeks ago from S.C. G. and had quite a few problems there that took two days to put us into a room that was a long walk to the restaurants etc. we are an elderly couple with walking problems, the first room was not suitable for us, we had already booked a room closer to the restaurant area, but had to keep checking at the desk for help, the second room was much better and closer but alas, no hot water. WE were a party of four, and all of us have been to Cuba and Cayo Coco many times, but will not return to this resort until the management has been changed.

We were at this resort for the 6th time. We were helped by staff (Yani Danny) t o finally get settled in a room close to the dinning, room, pool, and lobby. I have difficulty walking and the 1st. assigned room was way too far. We truly enjoyed our time at this little jewel of a hotel in Cayo Guillermo. Hopefully we will return again.

This is a small intimate hotel, that is not maintained. It was unclean with burned-out outside lights and no hot water during the day. The fridge was never stocked unless we specifically left a note for water. We found cockroaches under food plates, and did not like that the food was the same everyday, and not very tasty at that. Staff seemed unhappy so at times were rude. Nothing to do at the hotel as there were no amenities and no organized activities. Only plus was the beach is beautiful - white sands and clear water.

The resort is small quaint and has Cuban charm. Love the tranquillity and the delightful staff sharing big smiles. The downside is the poor desk service made to feel like an intrusion always. The food was absolutely disgusting. same dried out rice. beans. old food recycled..this was very disappointing. very little fresh fruit. tables always dirty. Have been there 4 times and saw such an extreme change. understaffed. Do not expect a beach towel. Was there a week snd was given a used one disguised as clean. Sad to see the change. Weather perfect. entertainment was lovely with talented variety all week. The al la carte was consistent with delicious meals. Made the best if food. just be careful. undercooked old pork and raw chicken..been going to Cuba for years and first time I'll from food. Take a beach towel. protein bars. water bottle and lots gravol if you eat the bad food. Kite boarding fun to watch at the beautiful beach.

Beach- I have been to some of the nicest in the world and this was a top 5 beach. Definitely the best feature of the resort. Beautiful white sand for miles, beautiful, clean, clear aqua water. Lots of shelter. Easy to find beach chairs most days. This beach can be windy on a regular basis though. An even more incredible beach (Playa Pilar) is a short bus ride away for a day trip. Resort- This was my first trip to Cuba and I knew this was not a high end resort so my expectations were low. The resort is small and well layed out which I liked, easy to get everywhere quickly. The pool area was fine. I liked that there was no swim up bar full of drunks. The restaurants, bar and lobby were basic but clean and nice to hang out in. There was free tennis, ping pong, shooting range, paddle boats and kayaks. This resort was affected by the 2017 hurricane but they have done a nice job of restoring the landscaping. Many of the pathways/walkways were in poor condition. Several of the hotel room blocks were a bit rough looking on the outside and it seemed like a good number of rooms were still out of commission following the hurricane. Having seen photos of the damage following the hurricane, they have done an admirable job of restoring the resort with more renovations to come (so I'm told). Again, this is not a high end resort. Food- As a foodie, I was always scared to visit Cuba due to the the horrible reviews I've read about the food. The food was not as good as Mexico and some other destinations I've been to, but I enjoyed every meal. The only real negative was the lack of fresh vegetables some days. Maybe most travellers are turned off by "real" food. The meat is a bit more tough, the fruit tastes great but does not look picture perfect, there is very little processed food in Cuba. That's a good thing. The various pork dishes, sausages, bread and coffee were highlights. The hot dogs were surprisingly good! Great drinks too. Rooms- Our room was clean but in need of updating, and definitely rough around the edges. Renovating the room blocks and surrounding walkways should be the first priority of this resort. Once we got used to our surroundings, we were comfortable for the week. Lots of hot water. Housekeeping did a good job but we didn't get drinking water every day. Staff- Definitely a highlight. Although I prefer to remain anonymous when travelling, the staff were very welcoming, kind and helpful without being intrusive. There was definitely a family atmosphere at the resort with lots of returning guests. I am not interested in the entertainment but it seemed like they made a lot of effort to have activities and shows for the guests. There was some really good background live music in the lobby/bar a couple of nights. Overall- I would recommend this resort if you get a good deal (we got a great deal) but there are better options out there if the price is higher. If you want a cushy, luxurious vacation or want to party, look elsewhere. If you are OK with basic accommodations/facilities and prioritize relaxing on a world class beach over all else, this is a good choice.

I felt there are renovations required. The walls are paper thin. I didn't get any water to take shower when I arrived! The restaurant food needs huge improvement! Would like more emphasis in adult entertainment. Many staff sitting around not entertaining. Noone hardly came around to ask for drinks until second last day. Poor service in main eating area. I got a very dirty cup of coffee! I work in food industry and this place needs huge improvement in the food too! Was grateful that I was moved after a few complaints.

Hotel is small and quiet. Never overcrowded in the buffet,beach or pools so lots of cgairs. Slmost impossible to book alacarte restaurants so i never tried them. Not too many activities so your kids need friends there or they will be bored. Rooms are clean but beds are very uncomfortable. No windows so you need to run AC which i found very cold at night but if you turned it off it was way too hot with the humidity. Staff was great and i loved the fresh coconut water you could get the staff to open for you.

The resort is nice people are very nice first night of arrival the older at front man was kind of rude he gave us a room that sliding door could not open and front door was broken. next day went to front desk they told us to come back at 3 to get a better room which they did give us and it was nice ocean view sliding was hard to open but it did,There was a little problem with very small ants but that did not bother us we did let that ruin our trip also air condition was leaking water but what did not let that bother us.The food was okay and the staff was friendly I would recommend this to anyone do not bring money because exchange is not that great but for anyone that goes thier do not petty things bother you hVE GREAT SHOWS this to othe staff was a pleasure to talk to forgot my charger and they were really helpful.Upon leaving go all of my clothes to the staff that were friendly.Overall that trip was just we we needed but we did not let petty things bother us I would

Not bad for cuba the food is great and the service is great although the workers are veey over worked and the security and management staff is very rude and not welcoming, and they demand and receive better service than the guests.

Very nice staff , accomadating, make things right if they are not. I go there to kiteboard and is fantastic beach , not crowded,good place to learn.the hotel is getting a little older and a few things don’t always work well but the staff really do get stuff closer to your satisfaction

Recently I have visited this resort but problems started from the beginning! We reached there at about 12 pm and the send us to Room 119. We had ocean view room booking with higher price but this room was with faulty lock and the bell boy failed to open it. We returned to the reception. They kept us waiting till 3pm and then sent us to Room 1011 but it was not a ocean view room! The next day the gave us a ocean view room at 3 pm. There was no tissue paper in the room and they didn’t changed towels even when it was thrown into the floor. Balcony door is so hard to open! There are 3 washrooms in the lobby for men. One is usable, 2nd is not and the 3rd has no commode cover! No toilet paper in the washroom for 2 days. There is a soap dispense in hand wash are but no soap during my stay. Hand dryer is not working and no paper towel as well. Only the beach is GOOD and that is not their credit!

We love SCG! Been there 15 times and it feels like going home. Staff are wonderful, beach is wonderful. Rooms are CUBA so don’t expect amazing accommodations but how much time do you spend in the room anyway? Always a selection of food that anyone can choose lots from!

This is my 4th time a Sol Cayo Guilermo, and once again I enjoyed my stay there. A smaller resort, with a staff that is friendly, and helpful. The room was cleaned and cared for early each morning, . We enjoyed our meals at the buffet and specialty dining room where the servers and cooks were always looking after us. There were many choices of food. We enjoyed the nightly shows, and music in the lobby. You can't beat the beach, and pool is always refreshing. Hopefully, I'll be able to go back again sometime soon.

Sol Cayo Guillermo is a favorite resort of ours because of the staff, beach and size. Unfortunately the hotel was not very busy and with reduced numbers the hotel has to manage costs by closing amenities. The Ranchon beach restaurant was closed for our entire week. This restaurant was our favorite lunch place, best food actually, when we were there in February. The buffet was limited to different kinds of eggs at breakfast, but had a good cheese selection. We had lunch at the grill next to the beach bar, good offerings there, especially the rice. Dinner was fantastic at the a la carte..the best we've ever had in Cuba! The buffet was tired and while there were some different meat and vegetable options was ok. You never went hungry. Our room was one that had a new mattress and paint job. They are always clean and tidy, but the furniture needs to be updated, nit just painted. Safety deposit boxes available at 2CUC per day. Lots of sun beds and palapas at the beach. Again, the staff can't do enough for you, they are the single factor we return.

So grateful to our travell agent and to the wonderful staff at sol Cayo Guillermo. Everyone was SO welcoming and friendly! Our first time in Cuba and had the Best family vacation! The resort & rooms were comfortable & clean, the food was really good and the sand & ocean was beautiful! We miss it already! Thank you Cuba for giving us the best memories! For those who love to get their steps in and stay active, Cayo Guillermo’s Playa El Paso 4km beach is amazing for both swimming and walking. The sand is incredibly soft, yet firm to walk on and stays shallow so far out. The Sol Cayo G is dated and needs much work however, it is a casual cottage-like spot on an expansive piece of property providing very good quality service. I have visited this hotel the past 9 years in a row!

This is a resort I frequent often as I have developed many friendships over the years. The staff are amazing and the friendliest of any other resort. However, there is a decline in the star rating and issues are clearly seen. I understand, recovery from frequent hurricanes has an impact. The staff work extremely hard. Head Office Professionals should frequent their hotels to view and assess the problems. The quality of the food has declined, not the same as previous years. The buffet, the lobby snack bar, with limited choices, and the specialty restaurant is open.. the beach bar closed, possibly due to low occupancy. There are units with black mold on the outside , definitely a health hazard. Some of the mould is covered with white wash,. For the price paid , this should not be is situation...The grass /grounds is not maintained as it used to be. Could be because it is very hot?? or shortage of staff? The lobby washrooms are very old , never any liquid soap in the ladies, but there is liquid in the men's, definitely need to be renovated.. the washroom near the pool is very dirty and smelly.. needs to be torn down completely and re-built. The TV's in some of the rooms need to be replaced, several clients were complaining. Other than that, the rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable., the chamber maids work very hard. The Staff is amazing, cannot help but love the Cuban People. There is only so much they can do...But the Head Offices need to frequent their resorts and fix all the issues or they will loose customers who will go elsewhere. This particular resort is in a perfect location with a beautiful walking beach.. I would not recommend to a friend at this time as the feedback would not be positive.. There is a lot of good, but first time traveller here would return with complaints for sure.

The grounds were maintained well, it's an older property, but it was fine. Our rooms were clean and had good pressure, hot water. Our AC worked amazingly. They put a free bottle of water each day in your room. They had target shooting, tennis, paddle boats, and kayaks. WiFi is one peso for one hour in the lobby. The beach was fantastic! White sand, aquamarine water and free of seaweed. Chairs were clean and new, some shaded areas, and close to the BBQ grill and bar. Food was okay at the buffet; two a la cartes were better, but still had limited ingredients and plates to choose from. There is a snack bar by the pool and a BBQ grill by the beach. They had a great selection of alcohol and all the bar staff was fast and efficient. We went to the sister hotel Sol Cayo Coco and tried their buffet food there and it seemed a bit better quality, but the property wasn't as nice. Staff was engaged and friendly. They had a really good night show each evening. They had some upper management always checking the standards around the property (shirt and tie guys). Overall, we had a great time in late August and we did not have any issues with the weather. It rained a couple of times early in the morning for about 15 min. Would go back.

We really love the beach of this resort, but got disappointed with a few things. Over all, the food is not too bad, but so many flies covered the tables and the food that just made me lose my appetite. Not only that, the inconvenience of having to go to the bars to get my tea for my meals at the buffet is a bit annoying. Coffee is only served in the morning in the buffet restaurant, and not served at lunch or dinner. Also, they often ran out of things like ice to make drinks, or herbal tea, or mint to make mojitos. The food at Cuban restaurant is a bit better than International restaurant. The staff at the buffet were quite friendly, but the staff at Cuban Restaurant were terrible. For example, we made a reservation for 7:00 pm one night at Cuban restaurant, it was a really humid day. We were sitting at one table and found that there was no air circulation there. We decided to move to another table where there was a bit more of cool air conditioning. The head waiter, his name was Alexei told us that we could not move us to that table because somebody already reserved it for 8:00pm. The irony is that there were only 3 other couples in the restaurant so there were many empty tables. We stayed there after 8:00pm and didn't see anyone coming to sit at that table. We did bring this issue to customer service Angel, who was very nice and very professional. He was very caring and very helpful. He even went the extra mile to help us to buy roses for our Anniversary. He worked very hard to take care of the details during our stay. Angel is the one that made the difference during our stay. He made us feel Special. In regards to room quality, the first room we got was very far from everything and both the toilet and the shower didn't work properly. Also, there was no tap water at night time in that room. So we had to use our drinking water to rinse our hands. So we made a request for room change. After some negotiation, they did change us to another room which is much better and had a nice view.

Had a great time staff was excellent hotel and grounds were exceptional Food was amazing too I highly recommend this resort The beach is to die for Can’t wait to go back soon 😁 Amazing service all around

The staff is amazing they go out of there way to help you always happy and want your stay to be excellent and fun. The food is great. the rooms are a bit outdated but nice and big and clean. Many activities during day and night. Smaller resort which is nice you see same staff and they are happy to see you. This resort is for relaxing as nothing really around the resort but can walk the beautiful beach for miles.

I took my 3 year old son with me to this resort. First our flight was delayed almost 4 hours, they put the wrong luggage on. Then during our 7 day stay the entire resort ran out of water 3 different time (wait was about 3 hours for water, each time!) and hydro outage twice, keep in mind the resort wasn’t even at half capacity. They allow locals on the resort who are very rude and will get served before you with a larger quantity of food even if you ordered before them not to mention they are disgusting leaving garbage anywhere, spitting on the ground where ppl walk!! Also one of their kids kicked my son in the head while he was waiting to get on the slide, when I said something to the 9 year old girl she shrugged her shoulds and dismissed my comment of being careful. My son wasn’t able to go on the slide for 3 days as the local kids were so obnoxious that we avoided the pool!!! How ridiculous is that!! On top of that one of the entertainment staff (local to Cuba) was going around asking men if they wanted to buy women for money for a night!! There own staff members are pimping women out for money (he is the only blonde staff member) I was soo disgusted with this resort it’s not worth your money or time to go see! Then I had another staff member harassing me and my friend (she came with my son and I) every time he seen us he would whistle and make a scene. Seriously go somewhere else. This clearly isn’t a very classy resort and it doesn’t matter if kids are present or not.

There has been some devastation to the property due to hurricane Irma, however, with the weather will be growing again, the Cuban people work so hard to make things nice. This resort in particular.. It is incredible what they have rebuilt since September, and they act like nothing happened.. in communication with them, they worked tirelessly, proud people. I did notice the food variety was a bit less, but then, you have to understand the hurricane destroyed their mango groves, and a lot of other plants. they will rebuild and you will not starve. The objective to travel is for the beach here, relax and enjoy the people. A return vacation is in the works for September. Remember your mosquito spray for this time of year.

Melia Cayo Coco, Cuba was excellent as usual. The hotel has come a long way of recovering from Irma. The beach restaurant and bar took them 3 months to re-build and it is amazing how nice it is. The rooms in the lagoon are very very nice. The a la carte restaurants are very good. The pool is nice and kept clean. The Cubans are very nice at this resort and they make you feel welcome. The grounds are very nice and the gardners keeping the grounds beautiful. There is not a bad thing my husband and I could say about this resort, the Melia Cayo Coco in Cuba. The food is bland which it is always in Cuba but good. We have been at this resort about 5 times now and it is #1 in our books. Thank you Rick for booking this trip for us at the Melia Cayo Coco. We will be back at this resort in a flash!

Once again we enjoyed a week vacation at this resort. The staff were very friendly, and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the musicians who played in the lobby, and dining room. Very talented! Cuban Tuesday was fun. This small resort is so easy to get around for a senior. Hopefully, we will be back again.

We spent March break here and it was the roughest hotel we have been too. First room barely had any water function for flushing the toilet or washing your hands. The shower sprayer was broken, tv was not hooked up and the phone didn’t work. We changed rooms which was better but the patio doors on most rooms had huge cracks in the glass which made you nervous to open them. Beds did not have mattress liners, just the sheet on the mattress and sheets weren’t changed throughout our 7 day stay. The beach was gorgeous and staff did the best they could with what they had to work with. We didn’t go in the pool once because loungers were all sitting empty but “reserved”....very annoying. Beach loungers were available so we stayed there. Lots of sea shells on the beach if that is your thing. We will be back to Cuba but not likely this resort unless it is completely fixed up. The one next door looked much better Iberostar Daiquiri.

Just got back from the resort Friday night. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our time there. The food was great considering a lot of places in Cuba aren't the best in that department. The weather was fantastic which made the BEAUTIFUL beach even better. Everyone who works at the resort are amazing people and work hard at what they do. A special shout out to Anita who works the lobby bar, she is amazing. And Julio, one of the grounds keepers who gave me a flower every morning he saw me. I'd definitely recommend this resort to someone who is on a budget. What you got is definitely worth the money.

This was a very nice resort. The people were friendly. The food was good and a reasonable selection was available. The beach was beautiful and you could see the beach from the pool area, which was also good. The entertainment was good. They had dancers and singers or musicians almost every night. The employees were very helpful and accomodating. We had a relaxing week.

Visited the week of Feb 14th to Feb 21st, had a great time, hotel still abit rough around the edges after Irma but they are working hard on restoring the grounds and rooms, the beach is better than before but a very windy week. We had to change our room once as this seems to be a common occurrence, some rooms aren't quite up to par, the food was ok but a little repetitious, staff were great, overall a good trip for the price we paid. Tripcentral was very helpful in booking as we only booked the day before we left, talk about a rush packing LOL. Would go back for sure. J & T

Stayed at Sol Cayo Guillermo from January 7-14, 2018, and had a very pleasant experience overall! BEACH was INCREDIBLE !! Bit on the windy side, but it was 27 degrees and sunny every day, so absolutely beach weather by day, and sweater weather by night. Initial impression was positive (staff, main entrance lobby, pool and bars), lots of improvements with their amenities since Irma - updated facilities and rustic/sheek design. Downside was that our original room was very far from everything and did not have working AC. They thankfully switched our rooms the following day to a lovely beach front villa with AC. From that point forward, we had an amazingly relaxing and romantic vacation! Villa was lofty and cosy with a great ocean view, and very clean. The down side of the view, is that since Irma hit, all the surrounding landscape has suffered. Less trees, and shrubs, which can make it seem a bit baron, but it will come back, and once it does, this resort will be sure to impress! Beach was huge, clean, shallow waters, with plenty of chairs and room for privacy! Played Beach Volley ball in the late afternoons, and amazing sunset strolls!!! Food was mediocre, but surpassed our expectation for Cuba, and be sure to book your a-la-carte reservations asap! Calamari and mussels/clams were our fav! We indulged in a Dolphin excursion, as our original plan to take their catamaran out for a snorkel, back-fired due to high winds ( so the hotel gifted us the Dolphin swim which was surreal) !!! We also went horse back riding on the beach which was so much fun, and equally as beautiful. Very affordable. Staff were very helpful, and always went out of their way to accommodate us! Thank you Julie ;). Entertainment staff were lovely, but they could use a different DJ in their disco ! Overall great experience with or without kids!!! We definitely recommend this resort if your looking for a more peaceful and relaxing vacation. We will be sure to return.

The grounds around the rooms were a little barren probably because of the hurricane in 2017 but was still decent. The rooms were nice but the housekeeping was non existent after day 3 of 7. The beach was very nice but there were a lot of small shells in the sand. Water was amazing and had very little seaweed. The food was decent but didn't have much variety. Omelettes in the morning and crepes were both good. Staff were very friendly and the entertainment crew was very involved and energetic. The night time shows were good. 1 out of 2 a la carte restaurants were amazing (don guillermo) and the other lacked in service and variety. They kind of lacked in mixes for drinks like anything slush wasn't available. Coffee was good though. It had a nice lobby and decent pool area. Not a big resort so getting around wasn't hard. I would give it a 6.5 out of 10. I paid 769 dollars and am glad I paid no more than that as I don't think it would worth more than $800 for a week.

This resort is by far one of the best resorts I've been to in Cuba. The beach is to die for! Food is mediocre but it's what I expect from Cuba. That being said, the positive thing about their food is it's consistent and by far better than other resorts I've been to. It's hot and fresh and lots of options! People here are nice and take a lot of pride in their job. Entertainment was good although wish they changed it up a little, a bit too much dancing but they are amazing dancers if that's what you like.

Staff were very efficient. ..definitely a tone that they expect a tip every time..outside dining was not good. Staff wanted a tip for cleaning your plates away but did not appear to offer drinks at beginning of dining, but asked they were very abliging. A nice variety of specialty drinks without complaints by staff for making them. Place was nice not extravagent but not a dive either. Biggest complaint i have is the spraying of toxins to kill bugs.. Their timung was really bad. Near dinner and breakfast hour with howling winds. Food was hot and quite flavorful. I have travelled to Cuba at least 15 times and it is what I made it....fantastic! Expect nothing and you will be happy and content. Expect extravagant and you will be dissapointed

Service, PEOPLE, entertainment and food were great..A PLUS!!!..very relaxing place to stay.. BUT the toilet in our room...the toilet seat was really old, ur not sure if it will be clogged if u had disposal ..UGHHH..until now it gives me goosebumps...if that toilet will only be changed .that is really a good place to stay...there were also minor bad stuffs in our room, probably from the shake of past hurricane..unattached electrical wirings, one sway to an overhead lamp will make it fall on our heads, (we we're really careful and moved spots to avoid it), clothing rod in the closet was broken...not complaining to those but just the toilet!!!really other than that...were great!!! Thank you Cuba..we had a great experience!!

We just spent 14 days at this resort over Christmas and New Years. I can't say enough about the staff of this resort. They were so friendly and helpful. The food was great with lots of choices. The beach is beautiful! This resort is not as lush as it used to be due to the hurricane damage, but it is still beautiful. We loved the small size of the resort and the quiet atmosphere. We really recommend this resort for a traveller on a budget. Big bang for your buck!

I have been to Cuba many times. This hotel and Beach is an excellent value. If you are looking for a five-star this is not your hotel. But the people are lovely. The food is very decent for Cuba. The hotel is a little dated. But everything is clean and tidy. Everyone in Cuba is working very hard to fix the devastation of the hurricane. I have been to this Resort four times and will continue to return.

Very welcoming and friendly, smiling staff and atmosphere. Staff cannot do enough for you, they are all very accommodating. Clean resort , all areas, lobby, shops, bars, restaurants, public washrooms and guest rooms. Although grounds and surrounding area are still being restored from the devastation of the hurricane it still looks beautiful. Everyday workers are on the job from dawn to dusk and after. Pools are crystal clear. I will definitely be returning to this resort and miss it already. Beach - Perfect! There was no seaweed, water is clear and you can walk out quite far. For those of you who like to walk, you can go in either direction. Food - We did not try the a la cartes. With four different food preferences, we found the buffet to be easier. We found a good variety of food and lots of fresh fruit. Staff - From the front desk, to the gardeners, the cleaning staff, the servers, everyone was polite and professional. Not one staff member hinted for tips. (We do tip, but at other resorts we got annoyed when hands were are out all the time) NOTE: The only reason I can't give the staff a five star rating is because one of the male buffet staff crossed the line with our 17 year old when he saw her walking near the pool on her own. His "suggestions" were not appreciated. Rooms - Rooms are spacious with plenty of storage. The safe is 2 pesos a day. It is opened with your room card. Checkout - Check out is 12 pm. Since our pick up was much later (6 pm) we opted to pay the 5 pesos an hour, but this cannot always be accommodated. Our cleaning lady would arrive late in the day around 4 (kind of annoying, its siesta time lol) , so sometimes we would just exchange towels, get water/tp. Water was always delivered to the room. Beach towels - On at least three days, we were told that they were unavailable to exchange - the delivery had not arrived. Pools - Safe for families, they were clean. We travelled with Hola Sun - no issues, the weight allowance with Air Cubana is quite generous Mosquitoes - Bug spray with deet is a must .. the mosquitoes swarm after it rains

This resort is 21 years old and loved by its staff, it may lack a few things, for example, an extra a la carte restaurant, a bigger or an outdoor exercise area and scooter rentals, to be truthful there are plenty of services available to help keep you busy at a decent cost, horse back riding, bus services to other resorts, jeep excursions etc if you like to cycle bring your own bike or if roller blading is your thing then bring em, this resort is and its neighbors are becoming great kite surfing zones so you can try that and test your athletic abilities, the place is not perfect and not bad, the staff are hard working and as it's known Cubans love thoughtful gifts wether woman's things or men, especially children stuff, shoes are welcome big or small the list goes on if your the frugal type you'll sympathize and think it through fine, I like the shallow beach water even though the wind tends to bring in high tides it's still tolerable and cool to feel the breeze in the sun ...

Very nice beach. Food was good. Good selection, 2 nice a la carte restaurants. Staff was helpful. Great night shows and music. Very nice snorkelling trip by resort aquatic centre (not included in price). Good resort overall.

The people are incredibly lovely and upbeat. If you need anything, they will help you immediately and do whatever they can for you. The pool is nice. The drinks are yummy. The rooms are good. And the beach is beautiful.

No major complaints. Was a small quaint resort, close to the beach and easy to get around. The staff was amazing and friendly. Food was what was to be expected in Cuba, not gormet but good. We managed to fill our bellys. No long lineups or waiting anywhere. Room was nice and cozy, no major issues. Had a wonderful stay!!

This resort was in the middle of nowhere, yet facing the beach, a few feet away.. I could hear the waves at night, very calming! There are afew resorts close by,that were easy to get to by bus. We had fun checking out 2 sister hotels where we could eat for free also. I must say our hotel was the best hotel out of the two (one being TRYP) i wouldn't suggest that unless you're 21 and looking for a party and don't care where you sleep or eat.It was a rundown place. Sol Cayo was clean with good tasting food and great entertainment. The rooms were average. I didn't have any complaints. I got my clean room and daily towels, hot water in the morning (not always so for a night shower) I met the most amazing people from everywhere in Canada. Lots of families and singles too! Great kids club for families. I loved the Massage by the pool area which was very nice btw.. Drinks by the bar were amazing as was the Spanish coffee. The reg coffee was not as good. The store on the resort ripped us off, every time we bought cigarettes (social smoker) They charged double.. So be careful with the prices! There is a post however it's high up and not noticeable. I spoke to customer service about it and she said they would refund me at the store however the lady there refused so management wanted me to file a complaint and I chose do do nothing.(altho other people, at least ten told me they had got ripped off also paid 2.90 and 4.00 as opposed to 1.30 per pack for Hollywood smokes.. At the end of the day (it was only a couple of dollars more per pack) I guess they needed the extra money more then I did. The only other complaint I had and it was a big deal at first because I chose this hotel because it had a water park. The pictures confirmed this . Yet when we arrived there was no splash park..my god daughter was not too pleased until the 2nd day when she jumped in the pool and I met all the wonderful people there who helped make our vacation memorable in a nice way!. Would I go back again? Well I'm an explorer and like to check out new places however if I met the same people there next year, I would most definitely go back!

Hotel shows it's age but they do their best to keep it clean. Staff is wonderful. Our TV and A/C didn't work,mentioned it to front desk and our TV was replaced unfortunately the A/C wasn't fixed. My biggest issue was the amount of flies in the buffet. As well as septic smells throughout the resort.

My daughter and i just spent a fun week at Sol Cayo Guillemro..ocean was amazing..it is an older resort but very cozy..we were in building 12 on the 2nd floor which was a little hard for me with my arthritis..tried to change rooms but said their was none so we didnt sweat it..it was clean and had a walk in shower which was nice..food was very good..they need to do renovations there and i think they are soon..anyway great week and yes i would return...

Sol Cayo Guillermo is an older resort, tired in some areas, but clean and comfortable. The people make this resort,,warm, friendly and helpful. The food is standard Cuban fare, lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and desserts. It is a smaller , quieter resort...not party central. The beach has been widened and there is plenty of room for all. They need some more lounge chairs, you have to claim one early in the day. Marieta , the Air Transat rep was helpful and reliable. We have been to this resort 6 times and after renovations to the resort next year, we would go back again.

This resort has a lovely otherworld feeling ... the atmosphere was gracious and staff are kind & pleasant. The night time entertainment was 5 star for sure (except the disco ... terrible music & considering the age of the crowd rock 'n roll might b more suitable.) The two restaurants offer fine meals and a terrific atmosphere .... and the buffet was fine. The beach is spectacular & the beach staff work hard to clean it ... they start at 6am but I don't think guests tip them and treat them with gifts as other staff ... if u r a tipper don't forget the beach guys! Rooms are fine and perhaps can use a facelift but I understand that is coming. Bring u r own beach towels & facecloths and ... hang loose! Perfect temperature for this northern couple in March!

A great getaway for us! Food got better every day! The Cuba day food was amazing! Shows were very good, could use more clothing on a few of the dancers but it's the culture 😁 room could be in better shape but who spends their vacation in the room anyways? Service was very good! Very friendly staff :) we will be back for sure!

It had actually been several years since we had gone on an all inclusive vacation. Let me just say that our family NEEDED this vacation badly! We've had a terrible year for numerous reasons. Money has been extremely tight in addition, so the decision to go away during March break was not made lightly. That said, we were on a budget and wished to spend between $3500 and $4000 on our trip. Not sure if this is the reason our experience was so bad or not but, I regret not spending more and definitely wish we could have a do over and/or get our money back! Due to the fact that we had so little to spend, I enlisted the help of and trip central agent. Anyway, all this said... Understand before I go into all the issues, that we are the most low maintenance, down to earth, NOT picky people you could ever meet. My husband and I have been to Cuba 5 times, the Dominican 2 times and Jamaica 1 time. We actually got married in Punta Cana. This recent trip was the second time to Cuba with our two children and this was the worst place we have ever stayed. Actually, we have loved every single other vacation we have ever taken to the Caribbean, until now. The Sol Cayo Guillermo hotel is in desperate need of repair and in fact, we heard during our stay that it will be closed at the end of this year for renovations. It would have been nice to know that before going there. Here is a list of things we experienced: - Our first night was spent in a room with no air conditioning. As a result, we didn't sleep well. - Our send night was spent in a room that had a broken door frame so the from door to the room would not lock properly. - That same room also had a sliding glass door that would not open and a safe that didn't work. - On the third day we were put in a new room that finally seemed to have everything in order but it did not. - This room had a sewer smell coming from the bathroom drains. Customer service and housekeeping gave us incense to burn! - They said they could not do anything else about this during our stay because it was possibly caused by the shower drain being blocked with bugs! To deal with this requires the use of Acid in the drain? - We kept the bathroom door closed for the rest of the week and left the window to the bathroom open at all times. - The refrigerator in this room did not work either but the safe did, so bonus! - The beds in all the room did not have any mattress covers and the mattresses were very soiled and in some cases moldy at the corners. - They were also ripped in some places which makes for great hiding places for little critters. Luckily, only saw one bug inside. Another bonus. Trying to be positive here. - The sheets were NEVER changed all week. - We NEVER once received new towels in our room all week. - We were only able to change our beach towels one time ALL week.(Apparently the onsite laundry services are out of order so all laundry needs to be sent an hour away to be done). - The pool was closed one day and we were not given a reason. - The food here was really not great. VERY repetitive. Understand that one should not go to Cuba for the food, it's really for the beach but the food here was not so great. - The selection of drinks was just ok and this is the first time that we've felt in Cuba like we were bothering the staff at the buffet or the bar areas. - Also, we have never been harassed more anywhere to bring staff food and drink etc., and we always felt like we needed to leave more than the usual tip we would leave at the buffet, bars, restaurants etc. These are things we would do naturally but it felt forced and uncomfortable here. One cannot predict the weather and this is not TripCentral's fault but to add to all of the above and which added to our disappointment, we had 4 days of cold, cloudy and at times very rainy weather. Our first three days were sunny and beautiful(but those were the days we had to waste time changing rooms) and for the balance of our trip, the weather was crappy. Very unfortunate but had everything else been okay, this would not have mattered as much. Anyway, the one upside was that the entertainment staff really tried and kept the kids occupied. They still had fun but in the end, we REALLY wish we had not spent our money to go here. NOT a good feeling when we hesitated to spend in the first place. Really wish we could get our money back! The trip Central staff should not be advising people to go here. VERY VERY disappointed. Can't say we will use trip central again and I do wonder what responsibility Sun Wing should share in transporting people here. :-(

Just returned from sol Cayo guillermo two days ago. I've been to Cuba several times before, and this is the worst hotel by far. It's such a shame because it has the potential to be wonderful. Cute bungalow rooms. The beach and grounds are reasonably maintained with Some wear and tear, but our room was terrible. We first discovered our deadbolt on the room door did not lock. Then realized the other keycard lock also didn't work. We could open the door just by pushing it so we had to carry our valuables with us everywhere we went. The patio doors didn't close all the way allowing lizards and bugs free reign of our room. The safe also wasn't working. Our toilet ran and did not flush for 3 days until it was 'fixed.' There were no beach towels available for 3 days. We only got one bath towel in our room for my husband, daughter, and I to share for the entire week. In 7 days our room was cleaned twice. Cleaned meant the floor was swept and bed made. Sinks etc. were not cleaned. Sheets or towels were not changed. Shortage of bottled water and toilet paper. The light outside our room was not working which is a safety issue after dark. The bed matresses were ripped and stained. The fridge cabinet door was off the hinges. The worst problem was the giant cockroaches in our room that came out at night, forcing us to sleep with the lights on so we couldn't hear them scurrying around. Disgusting! Problem after problem. Every day we complained at the front desk and with 'customer service.' They did send someone to try to repair the toilet and locks but it took 3 days of complaining. They refused to allow us to change rooms because they were 'overbooked'. Staff were nice as long as you kept tipping them. I believe this is a Melia hotel. They should be ashamed to take people's money. On the plus side, the pool was good for kids. They had a large inflatable climbing castle by the beach which was good entertainment for kids. The buffet food was ok if you are not picky. Long lineups to get a table if you didn't arrive right when it opened at 6:30. We avoided the a la carte after talking to other guests who had a bad experience with it. I think the people who have good reviews of this hotel must have had rooms in much better condition. If our room locked, was cockroach free, and not dirty I could have overlooked some of the other problems. Our room was in the 1300 block

Pool was amazing, but difficult to get a chair. The beach was breathtaking and the sand was so soft! Amazing beach. Hotel is rustic Cuban. What you expect for Cuba to get the Cuban experience. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food selection was large but line ups for some food took some time. Booking for the additional restaurants on site was not exactly clear, ensure you ask questions. Catamaran was amazing experience! Booking was simple and easy and the agent was helpful in answering questions.

We were looking for the ideal resort at the best possible price for a March Break escape for a weather-weary Maritime Canadian family group of eight with a 'kids are free' room price deal at a decent place. We found the perfect place at Sol Cayo Guillermo. Having been to Cuba (Cayo Coco) close to 10 times, I made the decision to return yet again to this beautiful country. Why? It is CHEAP and SAFE, period. We had small kids with us. The rooms were clean with never an issue with the three common issues in Cuba: availability of toilet paper, clean towels and water bottles. This is somewhat of a rarity in Cuba; even in supposed "5 star" Cuban resorts (whatever that means because I've found it means very little), water, tp and/or fresh towels seems to always be an issue. These are all first world problems in any event but I never cease to be amazed at how upset people get....reallllly? Sure some of the mechanicals were a bit "broken" like our leaky sink and it was a bit sewage stinky in some spots, but that's common in Cuba. The shower (solar power units on the roofs), AC (brand new Westinghouse units that worked perfectly) and toilet worked well and that's really all that matters. How much time do you spend in your room in paradise anyway?? The resort was a tad run down and tired-looking around the edges but supposedly they are completely re-doing it in the near future. Long and short, whoever runs the Sol Cayo Guillermo does a really good job, better than most resorts in Cayo Coco and surrounding area. The food was fine, bland but fine. Hey it's not the chemical-laced stuff you get elsewhere but it's Cuban and healthy. This is likely why they're not obese. I am fine with wonderful stir-fried chicken, pork and Cuban rice with black beans. The pasta bar was excellent, custom-making your sauce while you wait. The omelets were fabulous and if you get there early enough to beat the line-ups, you get fast, hot yummy food. We all enjoyed it and the ice cream was fab for the little ones. The coffee is wonderful and they had fresh fruit and bananaramas made with real bananas! Crystal and Buccanaro beer is really good too! The staff were excellent, helpful and polite. Because it's an older resort, a lot of the staff were older too, not just a bunch of kids, making such a difference. The coffee ladies Anita and the other lady were fabulous as was the guy at the snack bar; the guy with the beautiful eyes making really good ham and cheese sandwiches and custom-made pizzas all day. Carlos and Jose at the Cubanita bar where the Brits hang out were just the best!!!! Your drink never sits empty with those guys. What a great place to sit, drink and laugh and compare cultures right beside the beach. The entertainment, including kids' show, were wonderful. The kiddie club lady, Vary I think her name was, was just the BEST. My granddaughters loved her and couldn't wait to hang out with her. They had the time of their lives playing with other kids running free and safe all day. They did mini cooking and serving water to people and a fashion show and all sorts of fun activities giving their parents a complete break by the pool. This is a great place for young kids. The beaches down at the Cayo Guillermo end are amazing, simply amazing, pretty much perfect. In fact all of the beaches on this north coast of Cuba are pretty perfect! Plenty of free snorkeling off the pier right near our resort with no shortage of awesome fish to see and pelicans to eat them or wait until you catch one whereupon they run up to you like dogs with their beaks open. Hilarious. Watch the fire coral, I got a dose of it being stupid on the reef. I'm still in bumps on my legs. Even the barracudas are cute and friendly! :) We saw dolphins on the catamaran trip and expensive as it was, it was so worth it. Tarzan and Didi, the two crewmen were very professional! Long and short this is the best stay I have had in my many years visiting Cuba. The entire family, all my children and grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed themselves. You are only a half hour or so from the airport and there is a 5 c.u.c. good for the whole day bus that takes you up and down the strip every hour. If you like partying and people and lots of shopping and markets and city life, this area may not be for you but if you like gorgeous clean beaches, diving, peace and quiet in the sun, and great resorts only a few hours from home, this is the place. Well done again, Cayo Coco/Guillermo! I will be back.

It was pretty windy the week we were there so didn't spend much time on the beach but it is long with white sand and blue water (water was a bit cool in March) We could visit two other resorts that are associated with this one during the day also included in the all inclusive. The other two resorts had much better stocked bars (this resort didn't have much in variety of drinks and didn't even have mojitos the first time I asked) the variety of the buffets helped not to get bored of the buffet at this resort which would have happened as even the two restaurants on site had the same food as the buffet. While our room was in a quiet area (no disco music) the walls are pretty thin and you can hear your neighbours if they're noisy. we spoke with another guest that had neighbours who played music in their room until 2 am and then had big noisy fights..they complained to mgmt but i'm not sure what happened as we didn't see the guest again.

Grounds are nice beach is clean hotel staff very rude Gardners very nice food is ok wait staff ok I would not go back it was very windy rain and wind hardly no smiles from hotel staff don't know what else I can say long bus ride from airport

Myself and my boyfriend visited this resort February 2017 and had a great time. If you are ok with older rooms (not as modern looking) then you will be very pleased with the rest. The food was good, plenty of options and made to order options so you do not feel like you are only having buffet for a week. This resort recently opened a new restaurant that has a sit down menu and does not require a reservation which was another great option. The pool was big and always clean. The beach was amazing and we spent a lot of time there. Overall the resort felt clean and well maintained. The staff working here were always very friendly and helpful, it was unexpected to walk through the resort and be remember by certain staff. One of the gardeners had a beautiful flower for me every morning when I walked by him. In general I would recommend this resort, it is by no means overly fancy but it is at a beautiful location and was a comfortable stay.

I've been to the resort a few times. It is smaller and quite nice. The staff are lovely and the entertainment staff are fantastic! The pool is beautiful. It is a great place to chill and restore energy!

Nice little resort. Small size and layout makes it easy to meet and make new friends and get to know almost everyone working at the hotel. Very close to the beach (less than 50 meters from the cottages). Employees were always really friendly and tried to help and tried to ensure customer satisfaction. Service standards improved since our last visit in 2015. Food was good. Not a wide selection of available options, but what was presented was done well. How can you complain about wild caught fresh shrimps, calamari, local white fish and red fish, locally farmed eggs, (presumably) organic pineapple, oranges, papaya and bananas? Great lobby bar, with Yoselin making fantastic cocktails. On the downside - perhaps we visited during the dry season when the sea levels were low, but we felt that the beach lost its allure because it didn't have shallow areas where you could walk for miles and be on your knee deep in the water. We were told that the beach was "widened" as rising sea levels over flooded palapas. Still, the sea got deeper and we couldn't find shallow areas for little kids to play. A short bus trip to Playa Pilar solves these issues, but it costs 5 peso per person + 2 peso per beach lounge chair. Overall we had a great time, enjoyed the food, coffee, cocktails, good night shows. The weather was nice. Would love to come back, but because of the new beach, would probably take a look at the other comparable alternatives.

The hotel is a dated and the rooms need work. Staff very friendly and helpful, always trying their best. Very wide beach. Good for kiting. Nice beach side restaurant for lunch and some evening dinning.

Our week at Cayo Guillermo very enjoyable. The friendly staff in all areas of the resort were always willing to help. We always had a good selection of food. The beach restaurant was especially good! I loved setting at the pool and was able to enjoy a view of the ocean from poolside as well. The beach is awesome! This small friendly resort is calling me back again.

Used to be my favorite hotel for a couple years but now they change the beach is no good anymore, gravell on the Beach, food OK entertainment ok not going there anymore Room Service 👎bad...............

We went just before Christmas, so I guess we should have expected the wind. After all, the wind is what makes this a kiteboarders' paradise. The water is shallow going out pretty far. The resort is not that good. Half of it is deserted and falling to bits. Our room was good though. The food was bad, even by Cuban standards. One had to rummage through the grey and brown bits to find something worth eating. Mostly survived on omelette. We had one day when there was no beer anywhere in the resort. Now that is pretty scary. Just treat it as a camping/survival holiday and you will enjoy it.

The resort as a whole is very nice. The staff are amazing, they are both friendly and helpful. This includes front desk, bars, housekeeping, gardeners, buffet staff and entertainment. The rooms were a really good size with lots of drawer space. You also had self controlled air condioning with controls that work. The visual effect of the resort is very relaxing and beautifully kept. The night time entertainment is really good. Lovely long clean beach with lots of chairs. The only thing missing from the beach area is a washroom. The other negative is the the beach barbecue does not serve fish, one of the things imcome down for. Also the buffet does not have enough variety. It's like you end up with the same meal every night (I was disappointed).

The Beach, Staff, Food AMAZING! Unfortunately the rooms need a lot of work. There were 8 of us that went on this vacation and we all requested to change our rooms due to mold, toilets and air-conditioning not working. The staff was so accommodating and the new rooms they gave us were acceptable. We are also a group that like to experience tours and unfortunately (poss due to the size of the resort) none of the representatives ever showed up to assist us. This is my 3rd time visiting Cuba so I am well aware of what to expect.

Beach is beautiful. Staff are friendly. Room was clean and bright. Food is typical to Cuba. 3 bars to choose from and entertainment day and night. Drive to and from airport is not too long. Beach is recently widened and littered with sea shells.

First of all, there is no beach seating. They are currently renovating the beach and there was no where to sit. The resort claims they advised all travel agents of this and that we should have been made aware. Very poor communication on behalf of TripCentral. Secondly, there was no hot water in our room . Our room was extremely old and run down. Thirdly, the resort was full of locals who were extremely loud and obnoxious. The food was horrible! We were forced to change hotels after 2 days and we had to pay our taxi to transfer. We have been to Cuba over 15 times.. this was by far the worst hotel and experience we have ever had.

I normally stay at the higher star rated Melia next door. This resort was better than I expected, the rooms were older but larger, the washrooms were always spotless and the staff very friendly and accommodating. The only draw back, they tried the experiment of inviting local Cubans to the resort, who had no idea what was expected of them. The buffet became a shambles, the toilets were left dirty and the pool area was one large waste bin. Guest services had to apologize to the other visitors for the lack of food. They admitted what happened was a surprise, and said they would be reviewing this change of policy and it shouldn't happen again. I would advise visitors to check if the resort is open to "a conference" before they book , if it is restricted to guests they should enjoy this resort.

My first time at this resort, overall pretty good, but needs some improvement on managing the restaurant at lunch/dinner peak times. Very good food with lots of options. Public areas clean and well maintained. Room was nice. We were first offered a brand new renovated room with oceanview, unfortunately we couldn't stay there because the door wasn't locking; a guy tried to fix it, but we decided to change the room since the safe wasn't working either, so we were moved to another room without problems. The balcony doors don't have screens, so you can't keep the door open to get the fresh breeze. During our stay the wind was blowing like crazy, but it didn't bother us - kept bugs away so it's first time I came from Cuba without mosquito bites :) Kids were well looked after and entertained by the friendly entertainment crew.

Staff was short through out the resort, the housekeeping was slow getting done, always short on towels, the shower drain was slow causing an odour to come up the sink drain, then the seal leaked around the toilet causing water on the floor, it wasn't,t corrected other than to have them wipe the floor up, only to have it happen again. Everyone seemed to be having problems with the safe, tv in room didn't,t work for the first 4 days then replaced, . The staff was very friendly in the buffet, and the bar staff were great. The food was very good as well, plenty of variety. This resort could be a great resort to visit again if some TLC was taken to look after it.

-slow checkin -no escort to room in dark or help with bags - got lost with luggage @ 12 am. we were furtherest building from lobby -fridge didnt work -tv had bad signal and sometimes unwatchable -not enough pool or beach chairs - we struggled every day. refused to be one of those people that puts a towel on a chair at 5 am and uses the chair for couple hrs out of day! -no hot water for showers -line up for dinner buffet - obviously not enough room in buffet for all bookings -snack bar bad and no selection -worst food had in cuba -lock bad on room - struggle to get in room -lights burnt out on path near our room. dangerous at night -had no sheets one day. staff removed all bedding from beds then never came back with clean sheets. had to call them 2x to get update. -cardboard from new fridges laid on walk path for 4 days before cleaned up

The beach and the staff were great. The resort was terrible our room smelled like mold. Dirty everywhere,cockroaches, got bite galore by bedbugs, when we got home we ended up putting our clothes in a garbage bag in the garage and taking them out to be laundered and threw out our suitcases cause we were afraid of bringing any bedbugs in the house. We ended up getting sick from the food or by the lack of being clean in the buffet area. The guy cooking the meat at one of the grills was a recipe for a cross contamination disaster. The dining tables had theses runners going across them that were just moved over when they cleaned the table so whatever fell on them would be left for the next people sitting there with the new cutlery and a napkin right ontop. It's a shame really. We love Cuba and try to visit somewhere new every time we go, unfortunately this is the first and last time we go to a Sol Cayo Guillermo.

Needs renovations. Good if you get a low price. Beach is amazing clear water very shallow. Food was ok lots of selections. Service was excellent all the staff outstanding. Room is outdated but everything worked fine.

They rate this resort as a 3.5 star and it is all that and more! We went to Veradero last year to a 3.5 star (Punterena Celeta) and that one should have been condemned. We thought we would give Cuba another try and we are happy we did! Although this is an older resort that needs some attention, the staff is excellent to see to your needs and correct any problems. The beach is as good as Bavaro beach in Punta Cana, although it is quite windy. There is a tide there, so you can walk a long ways out before you get past your knees. The piers along the beach are an interesting hangout with lots of beautiful fish beneath it. There is no longer a pier in front of this resort but Sol Melia next door has one and its a short walk. Playa Pillar is a close bus ride away(7km) and a beautiful picture perfect beach! The food at this resort is more than satisfactory (given that is IS Cuba afterall). Lots of variety and the line ups are not too bad. The A La Carte dining is great too. The quality of the drinks depends on which bar you go and which bar tender you get. Try them all! The nightly entertainment is ok but repeats every 10 days.There is riffle shooting every day, tennis courts, ping pong tables and use of kayaks, paddle boats and snorkel/fin sets all at no charge. There is also a playground/nursery for the kids and lots of pool side activities for them. The nicest thing we found about this resort was the low noise level. There is a disco but it is built away from the rooms. We were in room 211 and couldn't hear any noise at all. It was a bit of a long walk to get to the pool/buffet area but the added exercise didn't hurt us! And NO elevators to fight with!!! A few Cons of this hotel would be: The pool is not very deep anywhere. The internet connect is not great (at least for me) We had to ask every day to get that free bottle of water for the room. The grounds are not cleaned of fallen branches often enough The hot tub was not working. Very low water pressure for room shower...almost a trickle My bed frame was broken on arrival(but was replaced) We had no remote for a/c but told to use breaker switch for on/off Remote for tv did not work and reception was terrible. But overall we feel this is a great place to spent a few weeks in Cuba! (Just as a side note: I did leave my sunglasses and a sweater in the dining area and there were never seen again. So don't leave things unattended. We opted not to use their room safe and just locked our suitcases. And everything was fine there)

My husband and I stayed at Sol Cayo Guillermo March 3-10...the resort needs a MAJOR upgrade!! Room was good for Cuba but our toilet didnt flush and the sheets were stained. Line-ups to the buffet was horrible! 1/2 hour or more wait...supper was the worst as it only started at 7pm. Chairs at the pool and beach were next to impossible to get if you didnt "claim" them at 6am! There was only ONE blender on the whole resort so if you wanted any kind of frozen drink then you'd have to once again get in line at the lobby bar. The beach is very nice though! Best part of the resort but it was very windy. The staff is friendly and always smiling even when people complained. I've been to Varadero, Cayo Santa Maria, Holguin and Cayo Largo and I have to be honnest and say that it was the worst resort :o( I hate writing bad reviews cause the people of Cuba are the best but this resort just isnt worth the money.

A very misleading brochure for this resort. It said 24 hour snack bar, not so, no food available after 10 pm and nothing before 7:30 am. It was our 3rd year in a row and our last Im sure. This resort seems ok for folks with young children or seniors that don't expect too much.

The beach is beautiful, but overall the resort needs some maintenance/repair. I think why we were disappointed was because we went to visit the Sol Cayo Coco for part of a day and it's so much nicer and I recall the price was about the same as the Cayo Guillermo. I wish we had of booked there instead.

This hotel is a bit dated but they seem to be doing renovations and redoing the grounds. The staff are excellent and they really go the extra mile for you. Food is good for Cuba and it's not a very busy busy resort because it's a bit smaller. The beach is beautiful and on a calm day you can walk out for hundreds of feet in warm shallow water.

There was an amazing array of blooming flora all around on my recent stay at this resort, and from the gardeners always attending to some part of the grounds, I was able to learn the name of many unfamiliar plants. The public gathering areas were constantly attended to, being swept and washed, as were the public bathrooms. My room was very near to the ocean and close to the pool and buffet area, with many pathways leading to all areas of the resort. Always had hot water, no electricity outages, and any issues with a clogged drain or other minor issue was promptly corrected, and management called to check that the work was done to satisfaction. I found there was a large array of food choices at meal times, the food was good, the homemade bread was delicious and very often still warm from the oven! My only complaint would be that I personally would love that the coffee be available at all meal times. :) I found all staff members most helpful, eager to assist, direct, and do their best to make my stay comfortable, and always with a warm smile. The quality of the nightly entertainment was a pleasant surprise, ranging from comedy to darker theme, with high quality dancers and gifted entertainers.

Its our 12th time in Cuba, 4th in Cayo Coco and first time at the hotel Sol Cayo Guillermo. Negative points : there is NO customer service, there is no manager (the manager lied and said he was a taxi driver at first, then he didnt new anything about the schedules the hours of operations etc. nothing was well organized NOTHING. We didn't have clean shower towels for 3days in a row, had to call for water bottles everyday, service is extremely slow, they had no beach towels after 1pm, there was more clients than fourniture, some rooms didnt have beds, tv's, blowdryers etc. The buffet was too small for the amount of clients, food was bad, 95% of the workers didnt seem to want to be there, always looking for tips, anyways nothing to make us valuable, welcomed, appreciated. Positive points : beach is amazing. So if you want a nice beach with no customer service no room comfort no good food no happy workers its a good choice. I think it was our last trip to cuba or next time well try a new "5 star" hotel. We only went there because all the reviews i red were 4 and 5*, a lot of people were disapointed and had the same opinion as us. Just trying to make you save money and invest it in a better trip.

The rooms. Very old but expected. I did not expect the aweful smell in the room. Very musty and moldy and the smell did not go away. Shower was like a pressure washer, no shower head. Patio doors would not lock. They moved us after 3 days to another room, much better. Staff very nice. Food not so much. Beach amazing, best thing I can say about the trip. Sunwing rep needs to be replaced, very rude and not helpful at all.

The place is outstanding the only negative is you get there before noon but you have to wait until 4pm to get to the room it is the fault of air canada not the Hotel I will surely recommend and go there again

Clean, quiet nice people--everyone wanting to please you. Beach beautiful. Food and drinks good. It is a small resort that we really relaxed at. Saw lots of improvements being made while we were there. Hoping to go back next year.

Staff worked very hard keeping hotel and grounds very clean. Excellent job I have to say. Food was edible nothing special. Exactly the same buffet every day.Don't upgrade to a more expensive room. They are all the same. 60,s vintage. This trip did it for us. Last trip to Cuba. Not worth the money. We just booked a trip through West Jet to the Dominican in April

Food was better than we expected & the beach is fabulous. Average room we booked was not acceptable; we changed the next day to an ocean-view & were very happy.The Cuban people are wonderful; friendly & helpful.

The resort is ok. Just ok. There are some great points, such as the demeanour of some staff, but mostly, it's subpar. The rooms were old, musty, and the air conditioner was loud and leaked, even though we put in service calls. The room doors (at least ours) didn't seem secure, and the safe in the room costs extra, so it almost felt like a money grab. The showers were hit and miss. Ours was fantastic... Lots of hot water and great pressure, but some rooms had almost no pressure whatsoever). The grounds leading to the rooms were often littered with garbage. Some of this garbage (plastic bags, cups from the bar, cigarette butts, empty bottles) were in the same spots for the entire week of our stay, and when it was time to cut the grass, the garbage was just cut up rather than removed (yuck). The food was as to be expected in Cuba. We always chose fresh, made to order options when possible (omelettes, pasta, stir fry). Fresh fruit was good. The "24 hour" snack bar was anything but 24 hours! It was opened sporadically through the day, and often was very under stocked, and so very limited. Drinks were ok. The beach is fine. Compared to the resorts neighbouring the Sol, it really was nicer an most in the area. In the winter, the tides bring a lot of sea grasses, etc., but not too much can be said about that. It is close to Pillar Beach, and we took advantage of a cheap ride from the resort. Excursions are the same for most Cayo Guillermo/Cayo Coco resorts. All in all the experience was "meh". Not enough to make me want to return,but not so bad that I wished I hadn't gone.

We advised the hotel I had a hip issue and we were given a room at the extreme end of the resort. The door was so difficult to open to our room my daughter had to throw her weight into the door to get it open. They didn't have a new room for us closer until two days later. The food was so so and the staff didn't give you good service unless you tipped well. Didn't feel we got good value for the money.
