Club Amigo Mayanabo had really good food compared to the four other resorts I've been to in Cuba. The staff was pleasant. Service was great. The room was decent. The guests at this resort is predominantly Russian.

I have not been to Santa Lucia for several years. Upon return now some things have changed. Namely issues around food and building maintenance. Only oranges and sometimes bananas available. On some days no cheese or ham for omelettes. In the room, no hot water for 4 days and telephone was inoperative during our stay. Rooms need to be updated and repaired, especially bathrooms. Shower doors don't close and shower heads do not function properly. The pool and beach areas are nice settings. The hotel does have a very good staff who try their very best . The bus ride from Holguin was very long ( 3.5 hrs.) and bumpy. Travel from Camaguey airport was not available.

Club Amigo Mayanabo in Santa Lucia is terribly over rated!!! The grounds and overall setting as well as a friendly staff are the only positives! During our 10 day stay, 90 percent of the other people in the Hotel were Russians! Many of them drank to excess and on several occasions security had to be called because of uncontrolled behaviour! We spent our first night in a tiny room which had inadequate space for 2 people but were moved to a bigger room the next day! In this room, the phone didn't work and NO effort was made to repair it during our entire stay! The shower door couldn't be shut and we were only getting "drips" of hot water! We managed to get that improved but then there was NO hot water for the next three and a half days! We had to shower with cold water! The food was plentiful but "very repetitive" and the only fruit that was available for 8 days were oranges! They did have a few bananas and some pineapple during our first 2 days! Papaya which wasn't very sweet was available the last 2 days! The chefs at the hot plate area didn't wear gloves and handled uncooked food with their bare hands! On 2 occasions, we saw one of chefs picking his nose without a tissue and then continued cooking without washing his hands! This was "disgusting"!!!! The 24 hour snack bar only served ham and cheese sandwiches throughout most of the evening and didn't have any potatoes during most of our stay! This resort should only be rated as a 3 star "at the very most"! I can't believe that it was rated as a four star by trip adivisor!!! I definitely WOULDN'T go back!!

the hotel turn out hot water, during 14 days we had hot water for 4 days only. When we complain they did not respond and they have different explanation every day. We have to take shower in cold water.

I have to give the hotel a bad review. I know this is only a 3 star but for myself a and friend Frank. We had diarrhea the first week. The food this time was, hard chicken legs, winners, bony pork. The drinks eg. orange juice was something like tang, and many of the same greasy cold cuts. Coffee was bitter I could carry on but I won't. I usually do not complain but this time I will. The trip to Camaguey would have been better . It took over 4 hours on a very bad road to get to Santa Lucia. The flight was only 3 hours and 30 minutes !! The top bed sheet had to be put aside as you did not know who sat on it. I found that in the 25 + years that I go there .This was the worst .. The staff were always looking for tips, or they would give you 3d class service or serve someone else that they knew a dollar was coming to them..

Hotel and service Good Transportation bad .I the resort for many years..and newer got 5 hr ride from the airport for 5 hr.. My agent told me it will landed in Holguin. and didn't mentioned nit will be 5 hr ride on no roads there was only about 3 km of asphalt rest design for tanks or horse and baggie. almost 2 days take me to recover from my sore back. There from cca 30 passenger only 2 passangers driver an director know what is ahead . Not recommend Trip To Santa Lucia wia Holguin !!!!!!!!! Return to Holguin aerport took ONLY 4 hr. From Gamague it is cca1.2 hr

So, going into a 3 star resort in Cuba, there are obvious things that are to be expected. Surprisingly enough however, the food was quite great. I’d avoid the breakfast honestly, but both the buffets and restaurants had some great stuff. Thing is, there are a bunch of factors that negatively impacted my stay. Keep in mind too that the bus ride is a minimum of 3 hours long and it’s real bumpy. Now, the “non-suite” rooms were gross with bugs in the floating ceilings (and the AC leaks water allll over the place), we had to pay for water and safety deposit boxes, the service was poor with a constant bad vibe from aloof employees, there was a lack of amenities and overcrowding at certain spots (huge line ups at the reception, bars and buffet). Also, the on-site store hours differ so much to what’s listed: it happened on more than one occasion that I’d go to purchase something during their opening hours but there’d be no employees for hours (they also don’t sell matches or lighters of any kind so come prepared fyi)...And, the entertainment is quite awful. Don’t expect big shows like at the 4 or 5 star resorts. They don’t follow the listed schedule, the music is extremely loud (and I go to raves, mind you), and they take foooorever to set up the band! They have these chairs lined up in front of a stage but if the weather happened to get a bit sketchy, the show would abruptly end and you’d be left with no evening entertainment. The pool also doesn’t have any chlorine and the water looked murky and gross. What’s also important to mention is the disgusting cappuccinos the Snack-Bar make! They use an espresso machine to brew and froth milk, but they’re rarely cleaned which result in huge nasty milk curds in the coffees......Lastly, there are clubs nearby that play music till like 3am and can be heard from the rooms... Basically, if you’re paying under 900$ for a trip here, I guess it’s worth it for the beach but don’t get ripped off.

This is my second time around here Excellent service , love the garden and the beach, food is excellent, animacion , snack bar service is awesome , lastly the lady name Daily Molina is amazing! Would come back again for sure!

This is the perfect place for those who prize seclusion, yet there are all types of organized activities for those who seek these. The staff is very helpful and make you feel as family. Truly a great place to get back to.

Quality of alcohol drinks weren't good , entertainment in the evening was very nice with having guests participating with dancers. Resort was kept clean and food variety and quality and service was very good.

Of course, it all depends who you are, the type of vacation you're looking for and enjoy. For us, it's a pleasant place where one can find shade and isolation if needed. The personnel is very friendly and helpful. Over the years (10 times repeater, sometimes twice in the year),we've made good friends who are more happy to see us than expecting tips. Rooms are very clean. Food is adequate, although not very fancy. If you're looking for sunshine, beach and rest, this is the place.

This was my second time here and I intend to return again. The food was much improved over last year as was the selection but still only three star. The rooms are small, but always neat and tidy and I don't go to spend time in the room. The grounds and gardens are well maintained. The staff is great, always friendly and helpful. The beach is ok, the wind brings weeds ashore almost daily but they are cleaned up quickly. There are lots of shade shelters along the beach and loungers. The age of the people when I have gone, end of January would probably average around 40, very few kids at that time. This is very good value for the price.

It was the 3rd year in a row that we were at the same hotel, Club Amigo Mayanabo. We liked the people, we liked the resort and the weather was on our side too :). The entertainment team was great too. The only downside for us was that the music (either at the resort or at the disco nearby, I am not sure) was kind of loud up to 3 AM so it might be difficult to sleep before it stopped. I understand that some (younger) people might wanna party so late, but maybe it could be done in a way that wouldn't interfere with the night sleep of others. All in all we had a good time and we are eager to go back next year.

The people on the resort where nice with the exception of the ladies at reception. They are snobs and ignorant. These ladies are the face we meet first...according to my standards they make the place or break it, which they did. There is no beach. You need watershoes for the ocean. But even with watershoes it's no fun swimming in weeds. The pool needs a lot of work. The rooms are small and not that clean. Lots of cob webs and dust one the light fixtures. Killed a cockroach the last morning there. I felt I got ripped off going to this resort. Which I will not return.

we enjoyed a good week with the kind and beautiful people at and around Santa Lucia, staying at the Club Amigo Mayanabo. Muchas Gracias for all your graciousness and care of the turistas, it is appreciated.

This hotel caters to wealthier Cuban residents. We were the only Canadians there and had trouble with just about everything. Passed over at the bar, people skipped ahead of us for buffet lineup, very strange atmosphere. The rooms are extremely outdated, it was like a scene from a horror movie. Bathroom light was attached by the white and black power connectors and secured with black tape to make connection. Our room was infested with ants, we had paid for ocean view, which was a little more expensive, was placed on ground floor and told that it was an ocean view and we could not be moved because the hotel was full. The pool by the end of our week had turned cloudy and green, but the ocean water was difficult for swimming because of the amount of coral and seaweed. It is also a public beach so ALOT of solicitation. I don’t know what to say, just don’t go. It was a horrible week, do everything you can to save that extra bit of money and go somewhere nice I think no one should be advertising this resort for Canadians.

I was aware that the hotel was a very old property and the grounds people and cleaning people are doing a good job with what they have to work with. It is very rundown and in a huge need a total makeover. My room had great A/C and hot water but other than that it was a wreck. Very badly painted the bathroom was in need of some major work, the mirror looks like it was installed when the hotel was built about 40 odd years ago. The clips supporting it were rusty and the rust was running down the wall. The toilet was always running, the shower head sprayed water in all different directions. I do not think the bedding was changed all week as there was a mark on a sheet on the one bed I noticed the first day and it remained there for the full week. My room had three beds so I just moved to another. Granted the towels were changed daily. The maid was very pleasant to deal with and she was under severe management restraints so I can not blame her. The SUNWING site rates it 3.5 personally my rating would be 1.0 because I cannot go lower. The food was passable but barely. Liver was served 4 times in one week not a nice option. Beef was like eating shoe leather with a bad flavour. Chicken was really hit and miss as it was cut into such small pieces you could not tell what piece you were choosing. Roast pork warmed on the grill was ok but very dry in typical Cuban fashion over cooked. Smoked lag of pork (ham) was the best option of the week. Pasta was prepared as you waited with a very watery sauce. Again service was very good and I do not blame the employees. My two waitresses were excellent Yanaisy and Linet and very pleasant to deal with as well as the cooks. My one waitress was speaking to myself at length and she was told by the Captain that she could not speak with the clients as I understand Spanish I was not happy. This builds great customer relations. There was only one bar at the resort and generally service was very bad at one point waiting 15 minutes for a drink. One bartender and was overloaded with work. What they call the other bar area really had nothing. If you wanted a hot dog or hamburger past 3:00 pm. with bread you were usually out of luck. There was great coffee available though. Beer was available for a cost at $1.00 per can as there was only draught beer available at one location and long waits. Bottled water had to be purchased it was not included. The front desk staff were just horrific seemed almost as they were doing us a favour whenever they were approached. The beach was clean but entering the water was a nightmare for all of the seaweed. The worst part is no guests are allowed in the hotel even after I paid for my friend for 1 week. No explanation and was just told she was not allowed. ON the SUNWING page talks about enjoying a Margarita best of luck with that. Finding rum at times was difficult I have no idea about tequila.

Hotel rooms are small and kept fairly clean. Excellent landscaping. Beach very nice. Food was okay except that the menu was same every day. Overall my personal experience has been fairly good. ..............................................................................................

Grounds were kept really clean,buffet was amazing, rooms were really comfortable and clean ,,Beach was fantastic,,staff smilling all the time and animation was soso,,but overall fantastic will go back for sure,,

This hotel is a 2.5 star hotel. Food is Cuban and basic. The property is kept very clean. Constant attention is given to the grounds and they are always adding little extras too improve the property.. All amenities are central here so you can not get lost and don't need too go far for anything. All of the employees are very helpful and kind. The pool is large and there is a kiddie pool as well. You can get alcoholic drinks until 2:00 AM. 24 hour snacks are not great and there is not a great variety but there is always something too eat. There are local public discos/clubs next door so if you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs as the music plays until 3 or 4:00 AM every day. I have been close to 40 times and will keep returning because of the low key atmosphere. If you are a foodie and like large elegant rooms, don't go here. You pay for what you get. If you want 5 star, pay the price and go 5 star. This is home away from home. Very quaint hotel.

The resort is older but slowly being upgraded. Everything worked in my room. The water was hot enough each day for a good shower. The pool is clean with plenty of space for everyone. The food is plentiful and decent. The fruits are fresh, the deserts are tasty and fresh as well. The staff is very good and very friendly. However this is typical in Cuba. The people are very humble and happy to be there. The entertainers work hard and do a great job getting people involved and putting on the shows. When you go to Cuba don't have high expectations and you won't be disappointed. It's not been ruined by North American culture. There is always lots to do. Spend time at the beach or go snorkeling or try your luck at Sail surfing. Leave the resort and go back in time. All in all I had a good time and experience again.

Great place to put hole into our winter. Great value for price. Beach needs clean up more often, lots of plastic debri and weeds. Friendly staff with special shout out for Santiago for exceptional service and personality.

The room was clean, everything was working properly, but there was no mosquito net on the window. Nutrition is normal, good milk, fish, burgers, but the tea was just mint and linden, there was no black. The sea is shallow, the beach was not always cleaned from sea grass, but perhaps it was useful for natural inhalation, it contains iodine. In the evening there were good concerts, sang and danced professionally, but during the day I would like to rest from music, listen to the silence of the seaside nature. All garden vegetation is well-groomed !!!Thanks administration for the warm welcome! We were pleased with our husband for our 44th anniversary of married life - Angelina & Boris , Canada.

The overall vacation was good, if you do the extra activities. The resort runs well but cut corners here and there. Room - dated and requires fresh paint, newer bathrooms and new mattresses. initial room given was way too small and we've asked to have it replaced. we got a better one but still issues came with the AC and shower. also mattress has been replaced with one in better condition. all issues were taken care of. Food - we have compared it with other hotels on that strip. the food lack some of the basics. I was hoping to see more salads and overall variety which was not there. staff and entertainment - I would give it a solid A. staff was very helpful and dancers and singer were great, people at the bar, Caffe and restaurant.. all good Beach - I would give it a B. Its not for snorkeling. didn't like the massive seaweed which was accumulated over time. it was clean up after a day or so but it needs to be clean up more often. over all, I enjoyed my stay, enjoyed my conversations with the locals and loved the activities (kite surfing, horse back riding and trips) that were much cheaper than other resorts in the caribbeans.

The staff are personable and pleasant. This is the third time we’ve gone to Club Amigo Mayanabo, many of the staff recognized us and were glad to see us. The rooms are clean, the housekeeper we had did a great job each day she was cleaning our room. Her days off - her replacement di the bare minimum. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t the best but it was certainly better than what we left behind.

No surprises. Food could be better and an update would really help. Good enough to recommend. Be aware of luggage handlers in Cuba they look for an excuse to steal like a crack in the suit case that miraculously opened up the zipper and poured out the deodorant and the cologne .

The resort works hard to keep up a 40 year old hotel. Great staff and ok food . They need to establish a non smoking policy in the hotel lobby. The smoking was disgusting and especially bad since we had rain and bad weather forcing all the smokers to the lobby.

J’en suis à mon sixième voyage à Cuba. Plongée en apnée sensas. Nourriture la moins variée que j’ai connu à Cuba. Chambre désuète. Superbe plage. Nous avons eu seulement une journée et demi de beau temps et le reste de la semaine à 22 degrés et des vents froids. Mais cela, on n’y peut rien et les cubains non plus!!!

Our family really enjoyed staying at Club Amigo Mayanabo The arrangement of the buildings (main hotel lobby, restaurant, billiard room, the pool, the courtyard, gardens, stage and activity areas, adjoining guest rooms, walkway to beach) are well distributed. The gardens are beautifully maintained. The pool is central and well designed. For an accurate look at the pool and the buildings, refer to the hotel website. There is a short video that gives a better presentation than a photo. The staff is incredibly professional and personable. The activity and entertainment staff also speak English, French, Italian, and German (maybe other languages as well). There are a wide array of activities for children and adults alike. The entertainers and dancers who perform everyday are very talented. We stayed in the basic room- this was perfectly fine- the cleaning staff were very courteous and maintained the room. When we return we will upgrade to a suite- a little more expensive-but well worth the difference in price. We looked at one and found it to be very spacious and well equipped. The staff at the restaurant were kind and very attentive. The food was very good. The beach is very quiet....It's a perfect place to relax and read under the shade of a palm leaf umbrella. The location is very secure and our son (12) enjoyed having the freedom to walk around the complex and participate in activities on his own.

I think this hotel. Is good for our money good price.room very clean the only thing you need more activities for people instead of seeing them seat and be on their phone a good part of the day .but overall good resort keep the good work

I liked this resort because the price was amazing, the weather unbeatable and the staff was helpful and genuinely friendly. I would bring get some mosquito spray if I had to change anything but the bites don't last whereas the good memories will.

Rooms were bright and clean,pool was large and the people were amazing. Beach was great the food was good,coffee was awesome and the beer was ice cold!!! Nice place at a great price.We went of site for lobster dinner and had the best meal ever,people were very friendly and we had no problems.The bus ride from the Cuban airport was a little long but the views were great and we were able to take cold cheap beer on the bus!!!! If you like kite boarding this is a great spot,6 to 8 people every day on the water as there is allways a breeze . By noon its a good wind so if you wanna play in the Ocean its best to go after breakfast,then after lunch hit the pool. The entertainment at night was great,singing and dacing and as we went at an off time they still put on full shows every night even for less than 30 people some nights.During the day they would great everyone at 10 am with a goodmorning over the P.A. then start the music.As the day moved along you could get snacks{pizza,burgers} buy the pool,the pizza was great !!The gift shop has a great selection so if you want to take a gift home or if you forgot something they had a little of everything.

Best hotel ever, food is good, staff are super friendly, a lot of fun, beautiful views , nice beach, nice everything, the shows at night are soo good. I recommend this hotel to everyone, I will go back one day thats for sure. LOVE IT SOO MUCH!!

This was our fourth time at Club Amigo Mayanabo. Things haven't changed much, still excellent service, excellent coffee and pretty good food! Lots of fresh fruit and omelettes in the morning. Lunch and dinner were a bit more repetitive this time around but that may have been that it is toward off-season. Kite surfers are a bit of a nuisance near (and in) the swimming area and rules should be enforced. The rooms are getting nicer as work seems to be being done bit by bit to upgrade. New underwater scene at the beach bar is gorgeous, hats off to the resort for having this artwork done! More local musicians are also being used as well which is what we want to hear. Never was a fan of the nightly entertainment however, which seems not to have changed much. No more cheesy shows please! Its nice they have something to engage the children but it goes on too long. And men dressing up like women as comedy is out of fashion. All in all, a great place to go and relax. We enjoyed the Playa Bonita catamaran/snorkeling/lunch trip very much.

Love this resort! 5th time here, always treated great. Small resort but treated like family by all! Food is good, beach is nice, drinks are flowing, what more could you ask for! I had a suite and it was big, most room are a little small but you don't spend much time there anyway. Spent 2 weeks there's and will definitely go back!

This was the third visit to this resort. The personnel are great and the resort has continually improved. From the cafe con leche in the coffee shop in the morning to a late night snack the menu is both filling and savoury, the variety over a two week period was ample. The ice cream is amazing and the service welcoming. If you're looking for a laid back location to read a book on the beach and just relax Club Amigo Mayanabo is an excellent value. The rooms are clean and bright. The resort is aged but well maintained and clean. If possible, I will be returning again in the future.

The Mayanabo is not a 4 or 5 star hotel. It's a place where everyone welcomes you and make it so that your vacation is a true one. The employees are key to the fact there are so many repeaters. it's in no way a perfect place, but everyone bends over to make you happy.

The main building of the hotel has the front desk, bar, store and sitting area with TV's and 2 phone booths. There is a pool table on an upper level, and the buffet is located on the lower level. There is a couple of buildings where the rooms are located. My room was older and had a queen size bed, LED TV, Air conditioning, closet and table with a chair, however, the bathroom shower head was rusted out and broke, they replaced it with another shower head that was not in good condition. The 2 electrical outlets did not work. The pool and snack bar and show stage were steps from the lobby. The grounds are very well kept. There were several activities being offered by the pool every day. A bonus was that you have wireless internet in the lobby and snack bar for a fee. The buffet was repetitive, but the food was good. The A La Carte's required you to book them in advance. They offered a Cuban and a Sea Food dinner; also, they provided you with access to 2 other nearby hotel buffet's. The evening shows were alright. Phone card cost $10 CUC,(10 Minutes), Internet card cost $1.5 CUC(1 Hour), Beach towel required a $15 CUC deposit, the in room safe required a $15 CUC deposit and a cost of $2 CUC a day. A massage service was available for $10 CUC for 30 minutes. The beach and ocean were a short walk away and there was also a beach bar available. The beach was not maintained well and had lot of seaweed all over the sand. The majority of the staff are very friendly and may my stay enjoyable.

This was my 5th time in Cuba but my husbands first. The hotel is a 1 hour and 35 minute drive from the airport, but the ride was comfortable and the Sunwing guide was nice and informative. The service at the hotel was fantastic and the grounds were well kept. The lobby including its bathrooms, pool, beach and eating facilities were all well kept and clean. The rooms however were awful. I've stayed at a 2 star where they served rationed hot dogs all day and the rooms were nicer and more spacious. The rooms are very small and their "ocean view" is windows you can barely see out of and don't open. There is no balcony. The rooms also have chipped and cracked tiles, rusted faucets and we were lucky enough to have the newly installed AC leak into my shoes and all over the floor... twice and a ceiling drip when it rained the one night. Again, the staff and service along with the beach is what makes this place. If your ok with the room, go for it. The beach, staff, live churro station and coconut guy made up for it all.

We've been to Cuba more than 30 times in the past 30 years. We were North, South, just about everywhere on the island. This was our 7th time at Club Amigo Mayanabo, next to Caracol where we've been 5 times. If you want fancy meals and luxury rooms, you better go to Riviera Maya or Dominican Republic where it will cost you about double the price. At Mayanabo, the rooms are clean and the meals adequate. The PLUS is with the employees who are extremely serviable and friendly. Nothing is impossible. They bend backwards to make your stay pleasant. You will also find on the grounds many places where you can relax, alone... read a book of simply rest. Of course, this is my evaluation according to our liking. Many people differ.

The hotel was very nice and the portion where we were staying at was newly renovated. The food was not the best we tried in Cuba but the desert was great and with a lot of choices. The show wasn't also very good ... and nothing much else to do after.. no disco on site. Mostly a quite, family resort.

The resort is very nice. The ground are well trimmed, public areas are pretty clean. My room was kept well cleaned but the bathroom needed a few items taken care of.... sink tap was loose, shower door kept hitting a screw preventing it from sliding smoothly. Even though the closet is not on a outside wall, the cement/plaster work does attract moisture, so make sure you leave the closet door open a few inches on either side so air can flow into the closet. I got tired of the buffet by day 5. Most thing were the same everyday, and I found some of the dishes too salty (but that is just me). The waitresses are GREAT! By the third day I did not have to ask for coffee with breakfast. None of the male waiter even asked (no tip for them!) My ex-wife has been there 3 or 4 times, so she told me to be prepared and bring my own condiments. But they now have mustard, ketchup, hot sauce at the buffet. They do have black pepper shakers on the table, but I would have to still be shaking it a year later to get enough pepper out for my omelette. OH... and they have excellent ice cream at lunch and dinner! The pool was nice and clean, but don't step on the grate around the pool, what isn't missing is crumbing. I had my heel break a section of it. The beach area was clean and raked. As much as they try to keep on top of the algae it creeps right back. Bring water shoes for swimming at the beach.

Cubana air going and coming home was the high light of the trip. The balance was a disaster to say the least. Arrived in Cameguey at 10:30AM, ready to leave at 11:15, sat in bus for nearly 2 hours before departing for hotel. Holasun rep was terrible. Arrived at hotel at 2:30pm, everyone upset. Both my wife and I got very serious food poisoning at Club Amigo Mayanabo. Bob was sick 3rd,4th, and 5th of Dec. Sharon was sick 4th,5th,6th, Dec. Under doctor's care. Basically we could not eat or drink anything. We had 2 days together as a couple, Wed and Thursday Dec 7th and 8th, and left for home Friday at 6am. In essence we lost all our holiday, and $1558.00. The hotel acknowledged food poisoning but took no blame, and said sorry! Called Hola Sun customer service this morning and they hung up on us?

I have been to this hotel more than 35 times in the past 11 years. Always feels like going to my second home. The food is very basic Cuban . The hotel is always kept clean . The pool is very large and there is always a place to sit either at the pool or at the beach. There is almost always a breeze in Santa Lucia. The slippery tiles around the pool are getting replaced a section at a time. The course stones around the pool have been smoothed down which makes it much safer now. The day I arrived on this trip was within 24 hours of Fidel Castro having passed away. There was no music and no dancing or entertainment for the whole time I was there. There was a limited amount of alcohol at the hotel. Sale of alcohol was prohibited the whole trip but it is the Cuban custom so I just accepted it as such. The staff at Mayanabo are friendly and helpful, they treat guests like family. Overall a quiet trip and very relaxing.

After 55 times at the Mayanabo what more is there to say. The rooms are clean, the food is amazing and the staff are our family. The entertainers are wonderful. It is a quite hotel so if you need to relax you can do so, if you want to party you can do that as well. Just some tips, make sure you take beach shoes as there is a lot of small coral washed on shore and a bit of sea grass, lots of bug spray, depending of the season. The pillows are small so if you like big fluffy pillows take your own. Make sure that you talk with everyone and make friendships, we have met wonderful people over the years and keep in contact with everyone. Playa Santa Lucia is just a wonderful place to be, and the staff at Mayanabo make you feel like you are in your own back yard with family and friends. If you are looking for the Hilton it is not there but the service is above and beyond. Some people love it and some don't , give it a try, I bet you will return many times.

Clean hotel in all grounds, great coffee, good bar service in all bars. Food like everywere in Cuba. Free use of bikes, boats. Little boring at night. Need to have some live music in the lobby. Three stars hotel that you will not be disappointed.

The staff of this hotel were amazing. We had a scooter accident and thus had limited mobility. We were treated very well. The physician who looked after us was professional but also very kind. In terms, of the hotel, everything was clean and functional. The beach was gorgeous and made for a few nice walks. Only negative comment is that the food was mediocre.

in general I liked the grounds & the beach areas.....dining room is also very nice....friendly staff...attentive service.....pool liner seams had separated in several places and will bother some guests....food is plentiful and plain but I knew what to expect before I got there(this was my 3rd time @ Myanabo)....the meat I find a little overdone(probably for safety reasons) but the cooked veggies were just right.

I have nothing to compare this resort to because , it was my first time travelling out of Canada, the staff were helpful when i needed it, the rooms were so so, the food was so so, but i would probably go back again.

The resort has nice rooms, good food and good service. I swam, biked, kayaked, met kite surfers. Perfect weather! Only concerns: hotel room too near noisy disco, noisy tractor working on the beach for 2 days stayed and wish I'd stayed longer than 5 days. I was treated very well.

Mayanabo has the best food in Santa Lucia. Mayanabo is well keeped. The beach was being cleaned the week I was there, but we still were able to use it during the day. All the staff members are very polite. I will go having back in November.

We stayed at the Amigo Mayanabo for 2 weeks with our 4 children (8-15). The staff were very accommodating with our room requests for adjoining ocean front rooms. Note.....there are no balconies on the upper levels. For us, having a patio to sit outdoors and have the kids play was a must. We were on the ocean rooms 208 & 209. We have been to Cuba many times and were pleased with everything and everyone. The rooms are dated and tired, but the resort is very nicely kept. The grounds and gardens were immaculate. We took a horse and buggy ride to Cocca beach (x2). This was a great way to see the local sights. The beach there is nicer than the resort, which was nice too. The entertainment staff was fabulous. We are not real "joiners", however found ourselves taking part in some of the activities around the resort and having a blast. There were many repeat guests...this I think says a lot about the staff and the resort. Met a number of local Cubans who were very happy to chat with us. We were approached by a number of locals asking for items of clothing.... This was uncomfortable at first. We did leave things for them at the end of our stay. Most of them were appreciative. All in all a great trip to Cuba. Very relaxing and insightful as you are in close proximity to a few small villages. Great value... The staff was thankful for tips but there was no pressure to do so.

Rooms are ok, no what most of people expect, very clean, food was good enough for me and my friends, friendly people as usual at Mayan abo, the pool was very clean also, the only problem for me was, there is only one bar and open till 11 pm. But overall good place for me. I been at Mayanabo 3 times and I will come back!

this is may not be a 5 star but the staff is fantastic.the location is great and i love that it is surrounded by local business and housing.you can walk out to other restaurants and do not need to be confined to the resort grounds.

Food was pretty good. Room was better than expected. Beach is beautiful. Lots of organized entertainment at the pool. Nice Cuban band in the foyer every night. Great hotel to stay at for kiting, if you're going for kiting get a room at the east end of the hotel for close proximity to Kiters beach (100 yds). Sercotel hotel is closer to Kiter beach but not nearly as nice.The staff is very friendly, not overly crowded. unlimited data by Wi-Fi for only 2 pesos/hour.

had a lovely last minute getaway - my only disappointments were with Air Transat (having to purchase food on the flight, room not as advertised) - overall, flight and transfer were fine - drive to hotel was 1 1/2 hours (but in a new bus) - quick check in - room not as advertised though as it didn't have a patio - hotel staff were professional and courteous and offered to change rooms in the morning and gave us 4 new rooms to choose from - we opted for a main level room as it had a walk out patio - none of the upper rooms have patios, but did have the ocean views - all main floor rooms had patios, but with twin beds - grounds were very nice and well maintained - loved the beach - it did have weedy sections, but the water was so clear it was easy to see where to walk - we did bring our water shoes, but didn't wear them - snorkeling off the beach was very nice - saw star fish, sand dollars etc - food was typical cuban fare with pasta bar, salad and smoothie bar, grill etc - nothing fancy, but good none the less - seafood al a carte was a delicious and wonderful evening; food and service was GREAT complete with a 3 piece band to serenade us :) didn't sign up for any excusions as we only wanted to relax on this trip - we did bike down the road to see the flamingos and walked through the other hotels and village - coffee bar was lovely as well - overall a quiet and restful holiday - smaller hotel - not a party place which we preferred - we'd go back!

Small resort in a cluster of 4 on the beach; spotlessly clean and very peaceful. Many seniors staying for multiple weeks, so no loud drunken youngsters! Friendly staff; no line-ups due for food or drink; lots of beach and pool chairs available. Buffet food ok but always cold; omelet and pasta bar in buffet the best option, as well as the snack bar. Pool and beach great. Standard rooms are tiny; get one on ground level with a patio or upgrade to a suite - which is an amazing apartment. Fairly isolated Cayo surrounded by cattle ranchers and Cuban cowboys, not a lot to do close by; virtually no shopping - so perfect if you want a quiet, peaceful vacation. Take a horse and buggy ride to check out the pink flamingos in the lagoons; be sure to take in a lobster dinner (the lobsters are huge and delicious!) - many options available in local homes or tours to La Boca (fishing village). Windy and cool several days during my stay at the end of February. Have travelled to Cuba frequently; first time I felt the Cuban winter - but I still love Cuba.

While clean and tidy, our first room was the size of a closet and the water and Air conditioner didn't work. We transferred to a suite for 10 CUC extra per day and except for the fridge that didn't work, it was fine. The food wasn't bad, the staff were the same, but for our 10th trip to Cuba, this was probably the least enjoyable. Marie France our Air Transat Rep was amazing and I would certainly recommend her anytime.

Beautiful beach and friendly staff. Food was not bad. The renovated rooms are basic but nice. Coffee bar was great. King Ranch, Camaguey Tour and snorkeling were excellent. You can see many varieties of fish even just snorkeling off the beach.

Great place to spend a vacation and meet new friends. Friendly staff and always ready to help. Nice weather and amazing beach. We would recommend this place to any of our friends. Visited the place four times in the last year. Feels like home!

This hotel was great for the price paid, hotel grounds were always clean, rooms were good even though I had to change rooms once due to key issues, no biggie...staff were friendly and always prompt to serve you...overall a great experience...

This resort is very outdated but rooms are clean. Food is below par even for Cuban standards. If looking for a cheap vacation this is the right place. Entertainment staff were more interested in entertaining themselves instead of the guests.

Hotel is very lovely has all activities , pleasant , lively, music, bars, very friendly staff, Cdn Entertainment Manager, Night shows daily, you pay $15 CUC, per beach towel as a deposit in case you lose, so a family of 3 would have to deposit $70 Cdn which you get back in CUCs and you have to spend there as they are not worth anything , like Cdn Tire money. The beach is nice , very quiet, has security guard near entrance at beach that watches your belonging all the time, Cuba is very safe no thefts, even when you walk from one hotel to the other at night, controlled 24 - 7 , not like other countries where robberies occur. The rooms are old and musty but you only there to sleep, comfortable but sub standard. Rooms are cleaned ever day by staff and nicely stocked with new towels daily. Over all it is a good hotel for your buck and you can use the Brisas Hotel which is only walking distance 15 mins away down the beach. Food is plenty and always fresh. Breakfast , Lunch and Dinner is very nice and snack bar with Pizza and Ham sandwich is open 24 7 all night long. Open bar .

in my openion its excellent place we enjoyed our stay. we already recommend this place they even wants to come back , we have the same tropical food, we cant complaint well come if the price is right.

Being to Cuba 8 times, went with friends that had already booked here, so went along for ride. This is no more then a 3 star hotel. Food is increasingly getting better every time we go to Cuba, no complaints there. I know its not expensive and where can you go for so little, but if you can afford a couple hundred more go to a 4 star. Beach has potential to be beautiful just was not raked the whole week we were there, so dried up seaweed everywhere. If you like quiet this maybe the place for you, there could not of being more then 100 people there, many locals staying there with their potential spouses, and come weekend locals out number non-locals, excellent if that is what you are looking for. We enjoy going to local establishments off resort to mingle, have never seen so many at hotel, and we did not find them that friendly, language barrier possible problem. Will not be returning to this hotel, heading back to Guadalavac

Food better than expected , service good from some but bad from others, rooms are adequate and simple, many events were not as promised, seemed to be an issue amongst employees , renovations ongoing but much work needed in general.

edges of pool need to be fixed for safety, beach need to be cleaned, entertainment is very poor, special outside the hotel. I enjoy my vacation but it need some improvement, people are friendly and polite

The grounds were well taken care off.-the staff were hard working - food was OK- its Cuba. would i go there again, dont think so. Santa Lucia is a small place - too many Police , dont feel comfortable.

The stay here was great! The staff are amazing. I felt like staying with family.The resort is the cleanest I have seen. The rooms are basic but always clean. The bed was really comfortable. The food was great but I wish there was more things to choose from. Went to Coco beach for the day and that was beautiful. This was a great holiday and a great price. I would go back again!

The hotel was very clean and we'll maintained staff was always pleasant the food was good especially the pasta and ice cream enjoyed being able to eat the buffet at the other three resorts wish we could have tried the a la cart as well the pool was very clean and the staff were always sweeping and moping the floors most enjoyable relaxing family vacation

If you are going for a high-quality hotel, this is not it. But if you are going for a great time in the sun, with your children, you will be blown away by the entertainment staff! They were fabulous and so attentive to the two 13 year old boys we were travelling with. They even had the boys up on the stage, dancing, night after night. Amazing! They not only entertained us at night but they also were our friends by the pool in the day. Holding Bingo tournaments, Ping Pong tournaments, Water Polo, Water Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, pool side dancing. They were just a whole lot of fun!! Look out for Raymond, Rolley, Emberto and Bobby!!

this trip was a last minute one but to this day has been the best I have ever had. the resort was absolutely beautiful, laid back and none of the pictures do it justice. the bar tenders were great. the staff and housekeeping were so friendly and helpful you never seemed to need anything. as for the entertainment staff what a amazing bunch of people, they went out of there way for people to have fun. Raymond (big teddy bear) was amazing with all the activites and a genuine nice guy even congratulated me at the show my last night there on y upcoming wedding.that was very sweet and something I will never forget. Roley was a super friendly guy and so full of life. always smiing and have fun with the guests and boy can he dance lol. my friend and I will never forget the amazing experience that we had at Club Amigo Mayanabo and hope to return within the next few months. So if you want and fantastic place to go for a fun and memorable time this is the place for you. Not only did we have a great time and leave with memories but also with many new friends.

HOTEL: standard hotel nothing fancy but definitely acceptable for the price most pay to go there. Pool is beautiful. Ocean is okay - beach is very windy and ocean floor is rocky.ENtertainment staff are fantastic they make a real effort to get to know everyone and include everyone. Food is cuba food. not much in terms of selection. The drinks are good. the staff all around the resort are super nice and friendly. The resort is fairly close to four other resorts that you are able to go to to eat at drink at and hang out at with no charge.

There is good improvement at this hotel, they offer another bar at Pool area, personal was very us-full, rooms are standard, pillows are like flat, need more upgrades, but over all was nice, too much wind at the beach.

We paid $675 each for a week in March before March Break. Outstanding value considering it includes airfare, hotel, unlimited food, drinks, and alcohol, entertainment Good Large Pool, with a shallow side pool. Lots of lounge chairs all around, in shade or sun. Beautiful Coconut Palm Trees all around pool. Occasionally organized waterpolo is played, and volleyball net available. 3 Bars around the pool, (but no swim-up bar). Lots of choices for food, Salad Bar at every lunch and dinner, but lettuce runs out occasionally. Snack bar is open 24/7 but only had 3 options: Mini Cheese Pizzas, Grill Cheese, and Grill Cheese with Ham. However from 10am-6pm they also offer Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Fries, and Vegetable/Fruit Trays. From 9am to 5pm: Fried Donut "Churros", and Fresh Coconuts sliced open for Coconut Water are available pool side. As a nice treat, they occasionally wheel around a cart with ice cream cones and ice cream around the pool. The rooms were not updated, but we viewed it as a place just to sleep. TV always worked in our room (although had issues in other rooms). Good maid service, towel art was nice too. Mini fridge in our room, old but worked fine. The shower had good pressure in our room (although other rooms had less), and sometimes the hot water was only warm. Was on ground floor so we had a patio, second floor had no balcony. Great view facing garden and ocean.

Beautiful grounds, pool and beach. The service was excellent. Food was good, but don't expect gourmet. Rooms are not at all fancy, but serviceable. Great value for the price but you must be adaptable to visit Cuba. Be prepared to check for toilet paper, to find no seats on toilets etc. But we loved it. We will go back asap!

We arrived march 5,2015! We loved our room! It was always clean and tidy thanx to our room cleaner. Love the staff!! Our fave part was the croc excursion... Its well planned and enjoyed every moment of it!! Also we can have dinner at the other resorts! Loved that!

I read the reviews before purchasing this trip. I don't know what these people were thinking, it was disgusting!! Should have trusted my instinct and knowledge about Club Amigo's, never again! "BUYER BEWARE"

The ground is well looked after.No leaves or garbage on the premise.The lobby, washrooms, hallways are clean.The cafeteria is well setup and all the maids are super friendly....The roads or walkways around the hotel are swept daily.The trees or hedges are well trimed.Everything looks fresh and liveable like home.

We found the staff and services to be consistently good, the grounds and property well-maintained generally. The ocean was fantastically warm and the sun shone warmly throughout our stay - what's not to like?

From the warmest welcome, through the gorgeous beaches, the captivating excursions, lush greenery; this is our twice yearly touch of paradise! The Staff treat you like family, and there is always something to do for every taste.

Enjoyed my two weeks stay. Neat and clean hotel, good service and caring personal. Food is nicely cooked and presented. Have nothing to say about drinks as don't drink alcohol:) Animation team is lot of fun.

We found the hotel to be quit small compared to where we have been in the past. However this made for more personable staff, we were treated like gold, by all the staff. They went above and beyond to make sure we were happy at all times. I would love to go back again.

Ok this place was nice enough. Food tasty - layers of flavour. BUT if you are looking for good sized meals - NOT here. The restaurant is more about showy fancy schmancy plates with swirls of this or that. Was not disappointed in the tastes but the portions - ugh. So many better places than this. Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, Drinking and partying

People here are amazing, they feel like family. Seems that most clients of the hotel are also of the same mindset. Not too big of a resort. Everything is centralized for easy access. This was my third trip to Club Amigo Mayanabo and I will for sure go back.
