We just spent two weeks at this resort. We had an amazing time. The food was great, the animation team (Brian, Gustavo, Memo, Janet, Lizbeth, Anya ) was exceptional. Everybody went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. We would recommend this resort to everybody.

Clean and friendly . Everything accessible . Great pools, clean beach. The best thing for us was - no a la carte reservation and no seating arrangement at the buffet. It made our stay comfortable and flexible. Great fun activities such as sport classes and fun planned events such as foam party and more

Rooms were very clean, the food really good, lots of choices. The grounds were very well kept! The staff were very helpful and courteous! We were very pleased with the hotel and staff. Overall the hotel was very well run! I would come back for sure!

This hotel is great for families on a budget. Tonnes of wildlife and the beach is pretty good. Chicken nuggets and fries along with pizza was great for the picky eaters. The other food seemed like it wasn’t good enough for the palace next door so they brought it over for us beggars at yucatan. Blah. No service on the beach. Riu should consider dropping a star so there is no confusion between their other 5 star hotels and the Yucatan. Its just ok. Worth the price considering the kids were 50% off, but i would never pay to stay at this hotel again.

Beach is really nice and big great for swimming, unfortunately if you want a chair on beach get up early. I was going down at 6 am to get good location. Pool is nice swim up is small very crowded there is a quiet pool also. They have smoking areas that most people will use but there’s always so inconsiderate smokers. There not supposed to smoke on balcony. Room needs updating very small in closed toilet room, small shower and one sink but enough counter space. Food was very good at all restaurants no complaints there. Would we go back probably not but may check palace next door

This was the first time staying at a Riu resort and I can definitely say I will be booking them from now on. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, fun and helpful. Special shout-out to Victor and Gustavo on the entertainment team and the pool bartending staff (Leo, Bryan and Santiago). Rooms were very clean and had no issues whatsoever. The air conditioning works great and it was a very comfortable sleep. The food was pretty good compared to other resorts we’ve been to. we absolutely loved the special lunches by the pool and the beach!! It’s not a super quiet resort so if you are looking for relaxation only then it may not be for you but we really appreciated how many things were always going on because it felt like there was something for everyone. Overall we were incredibly happy with our stay at Riu Yucatan!

The grounds are well keot and everything is within close proximity. The rooms are spacious and clean. The pools and beach are great and the service is good. I have been at this resort 4 times now and I keep going back because it is a great place!!

As expected, the RIU's consistency and service remains above par. The RIU Yucatan had many options to either join activities or relax on your own. The Chill Out pool and bar Ibiza were great to hang out at for quiet spot, thanks to Roger and Jyan who are amazing bartenders. If you were looking to join the activities, the main pool was the spot to be. Loved the bar options and food. Peppe's grill was amazing each day, especially the BBQ chicken. Only downside was if you wanted to sit at the beach, you needed to grab a beach chair by 8am or there were few available and very little shade. The rooms were good, bathroom fixtures were a little tied but all functional. A great week away for Sun and fun!

Second time here. We really enjoy the resort. Quiet and well maintained. Food is good and plentiful. Staff is great. Beaches kept spotless. We will return again and would highly recommend Rui Yucatan.

The resort was small, but lovely! The beach was awesome and the re were always chairs available! You didn’t have to get out there at 6am to score a good spot! Grounds were nice and well maintained. Food was pretty good too. All resort food gets to be boring after about day 5 :)

A group of 8 of us, ranging in age, enjoyed a 7 night stay here. The resort is a great size, beautiful beach, and never had a problem finding a spot at the beach or pool. No towel games, which was nice. The rooms are average, but make up for it in cleanliness. We don't spend much time in the rooms, so we were fine with them. Highlights of this resort is the staff, food and the animals.

Resort had two buffet restaurants with above average food, with open porches which we preferred more than the specialty restaurants. The lounge chairs were plentiful but for those of us who prefer shade, there were not enough covered spots on the beach. The ocean was rough all week so bobbing in the water was just for the younger braver guests. Like most resorts, the main pools were often noisy with loud music. But the pool near check in was always delightful and quiet. The room we were given was a modest size, with a very tiny toilet room and no privacy between the bed room and the shower. Our room was away from the noisy areas but many of the rooms were not. We had the ground floor but for those on the second and third floor there were no elevators, only stairs. The main entertainment began each night at 9:45 pm which was much too loud and much too late for us as seniors, and much later than entertainment started at Pullman, our previous Cuban resort. Staff in the Riu restaurants were good. Sunwing flight times were good but the seats on the down flight were quite uncomfortable - not unlike some Transat flights.

Upon arrival to the Riu Yucatan we were told there was no staff to assist with luggage. We had 2 rooms for our family of 6 on the second level. There are no elevators so we had to carry the suitcases up the stairs. We expect more from a 5 star resort. The fridge in one of our rooms did not work. We tried using the phone in our room many times to inform staff but no one answered calls. We told staff throughout the week but it was never fixed. So the fridge was filled with all inclusive beverages but we never drank the warm beer and sodas. The liquid soap in the shower was only partially full. It ran out after a couple of days and was never refilled. Tried calling to have it refilled but no one answered. The air conditioning was extremely loud and set to a very cold setting in both rooms. We could not adjust it. Again, tried to call for someone to adjust it but no one answered. Throughout the night we would alternate opening the patio doors to warm the rooms up and closing them to cool the rooms back up. We booked one night at the Mexican restaurant. It was a disaster. There are 2 seatings. We were only able to get the late seating. We have 4 kids and yet were the last table served. By the time we received our main course, other parties were already done their desserts and had left. Our kids became very grumpy, they were tired. We ended up cancelling our dessert order because it was so late. We ate one night at the Italian restaurant. The menu was very limited and the portions were small. We all preferred the buffets. The weather was perfect, the beach was beautiful. The pools were great. The staff at the buffets and bars were friendly and helpful. The buffet food was very good. Unfortunately 5 out of the 6 family members got diarrhea. We suspect it was due to exposure to the water .... brushing teeth? Ice cubes? On our final day, the kids and I had cleared out of our rooms by 11:30 and waited in the lobby for my husband. He had a tough time leaving the room due to the diarrhea. When we got to the front desk to check out we were told that we had to pay an additional hour for each room for being late. My husband and I travel regularly with work and stay at 5 star hotels across North America. We have never physically had to check out, an electronic bill is always sent. I realize now that going to the desk is a procedure to have wrist bands cut off at all inclusive resorts. As first timers however, I would expect some leniency. And I would expect the front desk staff to be very clear upon check in of the late charge policies. For customer satisfaction, a charge for one late room charge instead of two, especially considering the one room was empty before check out time, would have been reasonable. The front desk staff member was very stern and dismissive about our situation. Very unfriendly. A very disappointing way to end our weeks stay. Our shuttle was not picking us up till 6pm so we asked if there was luggage storage. There was. Of course we had to take it to the room ourselves. The room was an unlocked room down a low traffic hallway. No lock on the door. Anyone could walk in and out of the room. A courtesy room was available to shower and change but closed at 3pm. Again, our shuttle was at 6pm. So we did not use the courtesy room. We loved México, really enjoyed our excursions off site. Sunwing staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The Cancun airport was effortless. We will definitely return to Mexico but will not be returning to the Riu Yucatan.

We stayed in the hotel three years ago and went back because the beach was amazing. The sand is clean and white. Palm trees. Customer service is top notch. The hotel needs a reno though. It is deteriorating from sun, humidity and salt very fast and showing a lot of wear and tear. The food was great.

It was good, good food however very repetitive. Loved the beach. Always able to find a lounger. The monkeys were so amazing by the bridge. Our rooms were spotless everyday. Next time I would choose the Riu Tequila.

We just came back from a 9 day trip to Riu Tequila and we cant wait to go back. We travelled with our teenage daughters and stayed in two room side-by-side and we all loved our stay. The rooms were spacious and renovated, and had everything we needed. We were glad that we booked 2 rooms since the shower was see-through:) the hotel was a lot of fun with friendly stuff, great food and a lot of activities for everyone. Foam parties, aqua gym, aerobics ...the entertainment team was excellent. My husband and I are runners, and we were able to run In playacar on the 5.6km loop around the area, which was very scenic and safe. The hotel is also walking distance to playa del carmen:) We will definitely be back!

Hotel - bed comfortable - pillows awful. View from patio not very nice - overlooked roof. Beach - beautiful - lots of chairs always available. Buffet - very good A la carte - Asian - food was not hot. Steak house - very good. Mexican - very good. Italian - excellent salmon. Pools - very nice Grounds - well maintained Bars - very good Staff - friendly and wonderful staff everywhere on resort - maids, bartenders, waiters and front desk. Entertainment - preferred the Riu Tequila - very professional.

Excellent resort. Very clean, beautiful large beach, delicious food, great service. Also perfect size resort. Not oversized which is great. The chill pool was an excellent idea. Relaxing, quiet. Would recomend definitely.

The resort was clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful breakfast was good but the dinners need work. dinner at the steakhouse was delicious the beach was gorgeous well maintained even with the seaweed being the worst they have had this year.

We stayed at the Riu Yucatan from February 15 till March 1-2019 We arrived about 11:30 pm and check in was quick and simple. Rooms are a little small where we were, but you don't spend much time in them. Our maid was great left us a little towel animal pretty much every day for the first week,. In the front lobby for the first week we did not have drink service at your table which was no big deal. But the second week we had great service from Karen. We ate pretty much every day at the buffet, lots of choices food was great and plenty of it. What i did notice was at breakfast they dont custom make your omelets. They have 2 different pools you can go to, one a little more quiet and one that is hopping. We stayed at the quiet one and also on the beach, you will have no trouble finding shade if that is what you need. Staff at the entertainment bars were great. I would recommend this resort. Thanks,

Nice vacation at Riu Yucatan. Very close to Playa Del Carmen and other activities. Nice food but a bit crowdy and 'cafeteria like' eating areas. Comfortable and clean room. Very nice beach. We went there in February and the water was cold.

The beach and the weather were excellent so our stay was amazing! Food is good, coffee and cocktails top notch, entertainment poor quality except for the nights the tourists are on stage, our suite room was very large with comfortable beds although the linens could be better. Everyone is very friendly except for a very disappointing welcome at the front desk. Everything is well kept and close together so it's easy to get around. Walking distance to Playa del carmen (30 minutes nice walk) which is bonus!

We just returned from a 7 day stay in November, this trip was amazing. I've been on many all inclusives and this hotel takes the cake. The hotel is very modern, fresh, great for getting around. we were in block 5 on the third floor and loved out location. Rooms: shower pressure was great, room was large, requested and king and got it. Bar was stocked every other day which was perfect, had the bottles in room as well. There was enough hangers with a big closet and six drawers. Shower door was glass, which was ok with us but if you're travelling with someone you would want privacy then request an extra towel to drape over the door. beach: the sand is lovely, plenty of chairs, you are only allowed to pull your chair to a certain part of the beach so it leaves a lot of room for walking, games and just an overall better view. the ocean was wavy all week, some days more. A lot of people brought floaties down to the ocean (from home). Bar is close by for the beach, just up some stairs. pool: there is a main pool area which has music and entertainment every day, these two pools (side by side) have loungers in them. There is a small swim up bar beside the main pools which have built in tables and seats at the bar and at the edge of the pool. there is also a quiet pool up by the lobby which we didn't go to but it looked lovely. restaurants: we tried the steak house and loved it, the Japanese and loved it and the buffet. you need reservations for the Mexican so we didn't make it there. there is also an Italian restaurant for lunch and dinner but we didn't make it there either. the other two (steak & Japanese) you show up and are seated when there is a table available. we never had to wait but I did hear of people waiting - in that case go to the bar (we saw them giving out buzzers so you know when your table is ready) the buffet had such a great selection. breakfast and dinner is in the main lobby. lunch is at margarita (beside the pools - this is also where the Mexican and Steak House restaurants are). food was amazing, amazing! I loved it all! bars: there is a lobby bar which seemed to be open early, there are two bars by the pools - one of which is open until midnight. there is a swim up bar and then a bar that faces the beach. the quiet pool by the lobby looked like it had a bar too. all excellent great service. special mention to Alfredo, he rocks!!!! we walked up the beach to the left (if you're looking at the ocean) it took about an hour and there were Mexican stores, but also Old Navy, Zara - a few others. there are hundreds of Mexican stores for souvenirs. you can also get there by walking through playcar. The hotel is an hour drive from the airport. We did the tulum/xel-ha excursion which was great, we booked through our Sunwing rep at the airport. there is a kids area ... didn't fully check it out but looked good. there are howler monkeys on the resort and I loved watching them... if you leave the lobby go to the right and they are in a little hidden area. the balcony had a built in towel rack which was nice to dry our suits on - makes the hotel look nicer too to not see everyones towels or suits hanging over the balcony. if you're wondering if you should book yucatan DO IT! we will be going back next year 100%!

We spent Christmas at Riu Yucatan, it was amazing! Great food, clean and new room, what we liked the most it was the customer service. We also really liked the location, it's very close to everything you need. Best Christmas ever!

The place is so clean!! I saw them scrubbing the outside.The staff is friendly all the time and the food was so good!!. There is a cauliflower ravioli that was... Awesome. I'd recommend this to anyone. So much to do.

The Riu Yucatan was nice. The staff very friendly. They were always smiling and readily available to help you. The food was very good and it was nice to have a small market close to the hotel. A seven minute walk. Perfect. I would go back anytime.

We loved this resort. We felt like valued guests at all times..loved all the workers..it was the great staff that makes this resort stand out to us. I also appreciated the decent size drink cup they offered for drinks and straws if needed so we did not require the big bubba mug. We never waited long for drinks, the buffet was the best I've had in my life. So much selection! They had every thing even chocolate fondue! All the chefs were amazing and staff stood outside the buffet and thanked everyone for coming. How thoughtful. Great beach clean shallow and wide. I felt safe with the kids at all times. A few too many smokers exhaling smoke onto me and beware some rooms smelled of smoke..but there are different rules in Mexico I guess..smoking every where here I'm not used to this from Canada. We are non smokers and don't like the smell. The rooms/beds are small but sufficient . the mini fridge in room got restocked every other day with lots of water pop and beer. We did not want for absolutely anything. Every thing great. We loved Anthony and Jerry teaching dance lessons at the activity pool. These guys are so fun!! They were fantastic as was Isreal the bartender, Vidal, and our room cleaner. The shuttle was an easy 45 min from the airport. Check in and out went smoothly. The shows were alright. The pool could have been cleaner..a lot of missing tiles on walls of pool.. found them at bottom..debris in pool..stepping on stuff (small rocks and debris) in pool. Only saw it cleaned rarely. (1x all week) However, I was sad when it was time to go because it was the best time and we can't wait to return! Our kids also said they liked this resort the best of the many resorts we have been to. Ages 6 and 9. There are a few mosquitos so bring repellant but not too bad. There is several pool areas here its a very spread out large resort..a lot of walking and no elevators..just 9 3 storey walk ups. There are no ocean view rooms no room service no waiter service and Wiifii has a fee of $10 a day. We loved that you stay at 1 Riu but can explore 3 other nearby Riu hotels. This gave more variety. Lots of Wildlife here too!

Riu Yucatan. Excellent, out standing resort. Modern, spotless clean, wonderful service. The excitement of our vacation started to wear off after Sunwing informed us our flight was delayed 9 hours. Paying for 7 nights, we only got to stay 6 nights. Reception did not provide a warm welcome either, after an exhausting day at the airport, arriving at 7 a.m. The room assigned to us, the bathroom was flooded by overflowing water from the toilet tank. No maid service the first day either? We had stayed at the Riu Palace Mexico last year, loved the beach and returned but chose the Riu Yucatan this time. We made the best of our vacation, our requests were not fulfilled, this was for our anniversary and my husband's retiremen. It's all about $$$. We would probably not return for the reasons above.

Rooms were good, resort was always clean and landscape was well laid out and well taken care of. Restaurants were fine the Italian restaurant was a favourite. The nightly entertainment could use some work.

Flawless vacation top notch entertainment and accommodation......Food fabulous not only in taste but in presentation as well. Staff remarkable everything positive....newly upgraded with bright cheery colours.....would definitely come back here.....
