My trip was a nightmare, I dont know where to start so im not going to! Was there for 2 weeks and living on pins and needles not knowing when our trip would come to an end!!! We were sent home to days short of our vacation with multiple inconveniences Hoping to get some kind compensation for this. I will not be traveling back ever!

Playa Costa Verde is some what of an older Resort, but well maintained according to Cuban standards. The employees at PCV make you feel right at home and are always willing to help make your stay here the best.

The resort is a little tired which is understandable with the current situation in Cuba. The staff worked very hard to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The beach and pools were well cared for. Very little fresh fruit available due to supply issues.

For context: My Mom and I travelled to PCV (Jan. 14-21) as a trip to celebrate her recent 70th birthday and my 40th birthday. This was her 4th visit to PCV in 2 years and my first. I last travelled to Cuba in 2011, but go to Mexico every year with a close friend group and our families. I knew the amenities, food, etc. here in Cuba would be different. Having realistic expectations is #1 when travelling to Cuba. We paid $1000 each. When you consider how much the airline takes + taxes and transportation, very little is left for the resort, and I think people forget to consider that. Beach: Gorgeous! Crystal clear water and very little seaweed, but it is the ocean after all so there is some. Lots of great snorkeling and a few different options for sailing and pedal boats. It was difficult to find loungers if you went after 10am. The beach is a bit of a walk from the resort and there are no washroom facilities. There is a bar but no food options, so keep that in mind. Pool: Very large, clean and lots of room to float around. There were a few recreation team activities during the day, but at least during our time, had very little participation. The swim up bar is good but the slush machine was out of order. Bring a reusable cup to void using paper cups. Grounds: Generally nice, but a lot of areas had large sections of tall grass that hadn’t been mowed. This didn’t affect our trip in anyway, but did give an overall “run down look” - as did multiple abandoned buildings. Rooms: We requested a room on the 2nd floor but couldn’t be accommodated. We arrived at 10pm and were taken to a first floor room in building # 25. It was dark, musty and sparks flew from the lightbulb in the lamp when I went to turn it on. There was also no patio furniture on the patio. The fridge did not work and was leaking water all over the floor. The next day, we were moved to a 2nd floor room in building 11 that was 1000 times better. Bright, clean and more updated. We had plenty of towels but the sheets were not changed. We didn’t ask for them to be, but just something to note. A handful of times the water pressure was off for flushing the toilet, but fixed within an hour. We had a few power outages that only lasted 5-10 seconds for less than 10 minutes. Staff: 98% of the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. We had a few issues with management/guest relations but overall the Cuban people are so lovely and appreciative. Food: This is SUCH a heated and much-divided area, but in my opinion, the food was slightly less than typical “Cuba”. The buffet was very repetitive and lacking. The only fruit we saw all week was pineapple and there was melon one day. The only veg were cucumbers and tomatoes. Plenty of pasta, rice, seafood and usually a chicken option as well. They didn’t always have butter, ketchup or salt and pepper, but we brought our own + peanut butter. The snack bar was our favourite. The chicken salad sandwich was great! The service can be VERY slow there, but I wasn’t in a rush to be anywhere! They did run out of fries one day, but restocked quickly. Pizza was good! We didn’t realize until the last day they offer breakfast as well. It looked good! They seemed to always have ketchup and mustard too at the snack bar. We didn’t try the al la cartes. In my experience, it’s usually but same as the buffets but I could be wrong. Overall, we had a great week for what we were looking for. For the price, the weather and the relaxation, it was perfect! I personally would return for the same price, but not more. I do prefer to be somewhere like Varadero where there is more to do and see off the resort, but that’s just a personal preference.

We just returned from a week away at PCV. We’ve been going there atleast once a year for the past 4 years. This place is AMAZING. the highlights are the 24HR snack bar, stocked with food & drinks. The entertainment is great daily. The beach is gorgeous. The staff are the most beautiful, kind caring people you can find on earth! the grounds are well kept and beautiful, the pool & pool bar are where you find me most often ;). The rooms are dated , but for the amount of time you spend in them , they’re perfectly fine. beds are comfortable, water is hot, most rooms have jet tubs which is nice in the evening after a rain shower. If you’ve seen the recent news advisories about shortages and power outages , PLEASE don’t listen… this past trip had less shortages than previous years, despite the fact ; it is cuba and you need to keep expectations realistic … this resort has everything you’ll need. they had eggs, bacon, ketchup (on every table) lots of coffee and drink options. So don’t let the recent news deter you ! USD tipping is preferred , but do what you can … they’re grateful because Our help is what keeps them going… I recently saw a meme that says “FIBO” ( Fu*k it, Book it!) and that’s my advice for you ! Go enjoy the wonderful culture , the incredible service , the sun , sand and Sea .. and above all else the unmatched hospitality of the lovely Cuban people!!

We have just spent a week at this beloved resort, but regretfully will not be going back. We fully understand Cuba’s difficulties, but the resort is becoming run down/tired. The younger staff have mostly left, very little animation team. The buffet, (understanding the difficulties) never changes. I agree with have a Cuban feel for the food is important, it is very difficult to eat the same offerings day in and day out. Only at breakfast we saw boiled eggs. That was the only change from the steam line in all three meals. It is not difficult to become creative with leftovers and introduce change on the steam line. The beds are exhausted and the pillows are completely done. There is problems with water and hot water, which we feel the resort should consider a top priority. Unable to switch towels, because of this. (We also bring our own towels) thank goodness! The staff that are there are always amazing, we feel they try their best to give great service with the lack of resources. I feel that we can get better bang for our buck elsewhere.

Older, quieter smaller resort with cottage charm. Beautiful beach, snorkeling, beach walks, and sunsets. Friendly atmosphere. Comfortable beds, Wi‑Fi, eggs, ice cream, a‑la‑carte options, snack bar, limited fresh produce, good wine. Great value for solo and mature travelers seeking calm by the water.

Just got back from a week at Playa Costa Verdes. It was my first travelling alone and this was a great place to try it out. I felt safe all the time. The grounds were beautiful. And bit the beach and pool were well kept and so gorgeous. I spent a relaxing week, met some great people and made memories.

We came to this resort for the first time. We found the staff to be exceptional, friendly and exceptional customer service. The entertainment was great. The beach was beautiful! We will definitely be back.

It was a nice resort, but a little dated. The service was great with top notch staff that were very friendly and always smiling. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. The a’ la cartes were good, but the buffet for breakfast and lunch were always the same. We met people who have come back to this resort several times, because of the great beach and staff. We loved the beach and pool which was well taken care of. I would definitely return again.

I just recently returned from a perfect week at this gem of a resort. For people looking for a quiet vacation, beautiful gardens, an amazing beach this is g the place for you. The staff seemed happy and the service was exceptional. Food was plentiful and well prepared. This was my third visit to Playa Costa Verde and certainly not my last.

We had the priveledge of staying for our third visit @ PCV from April 15 - 29, 2025. From the quick checking in l ate @ night, cheerful staff the entire visit, enjoying a drink @ the swim up bar with Jesus, being invited to attend numerous functions & VIP dinners we cannot express in words how we felt this is truly our second home. The entire staff go above & beyond . This is our 30th trip to Cuba & we will be back @ PCV next year..Hopefully for a longer period. We highly recommend this resort. Mary & George Lloy

The grounds were kept up. But the rooms were gross. Dirty floors. Bugs under the bed, bath room window didn’t close letting in mosquitos , geekos and cockroaches. Had a very long week with hardly any sleep. Was very happy to go home. I won’t return to that resort EVER!

The resort is clean all over and all washrooms are well kept, including the one on the beach.' We had plenty of assorted food, in the buffet and snack bar.We always found something different each night. Can`t praise the staff enough, they are wonderful.! The beach is amazing, lots of chairs and shade, perfect for swimming and all other activities.Music was nice and not too load.The resort could use some repairs, most important would be electrical in the rooms, but this did not affect the wonderful holiday we had,

The resort is lush and appealing. The groundskeepers do a wonderful job. Our room was quite comfortable and nice, everything worked as it should and the maid service was great. The beach area itself had lots of seating but quite narrow. Quite sandy and comfortable to walk on. The ‘wading’ area however is a different story. It is essentially coral covered with sand and hard on the feet. The pool is a large, free flowing shape that is really quite appealing with lots of seating available. It has a convenient swim up bar and the bartender there , Jesus, is a great guy. Unfortunately the entertainment staff like to turn the volume up to 11 and pump out Cuban disco all day. I, along with several other guests actually went over and tuned it down (or off!) on several occasions. I’m sure we all would have enjoyed ourselves more if the volume was much lower and not blasting all day. We only tried two of the a la carte restaurants, the Italian and the Japanese. The Italian was good and the Japanese was sensational. I strongly recommend that if you do go to Playa Costa Verde you book the Japanese restaurant. The meals in the buffet were limited (it’s Cuba after all) but you won’t go hungry. For the first three days there was no bread or bread products (rolls, etc) available. The check in was painless, the staff were all quite friendly and for the price it was a reasonable deal.

Musicians were very good; magician and dance troupe were most entertaining. Snorkeling was good. Buffet is open to flies, birds, and cats. Watch your food, because the birds are. My bathroom smelled like a sewer on most nights; not during the day.

I have traveled to Cuba 15 times and I will be honest with my review. The hotel is clean but outdated and definitely needs some renovations. For example, the tiles in the pool needed to be fixed, rails on the balcony etc air conditioner was quite loud! We did have a power outage for 5 minutes one night out of the 7. The hotel does use generators for electricity. As Cuba does experience an intense amount of power outages . Please do not tip the staff with Canadian coins! They cannot use the coins and exchange them. Everyone at the resort was asking to exchange coins for dollar bills! The staff was friendly, there was no shortage of anything. Snack bar was open 24 hours! The buffet food was cold and every night same thing to eat. At times, there was no sugar! Bring your own just incase! A la Carte restaurants were quite good. Entertainment was awful at night and no fun organized activities during the day. The beach is beautiful, chairs always available! The beach has a bar but no music and very little activities organized for tourists. Overall it was okay for the price that you pay! Didn't expect much. I would give this resort three stars!

The grounds are well-kept and beautiful, the food was the best we have had at this resort in the last 6 years, the staff are amazing and very pleasant and helpful, the beach is fantastic! You can swim out and snorkel right from the white sand beach. The pool was well-maintained and the swim-up bartenders are quick and entertaining! The rooms are neat and cleaned daily and there was always water in our room and well-stocked with toilet paper. The restaurants were easy to book and had very good food and the 24-hour snack bar always had lots of food and good food! This was our 6th time back to this resort and hope to go again next year!

Great family resort and everything went perfect! The staff were very nice and it was close the airport. The food was not that great, maybe 5/10, but the rooms were great, we had a suite. The pool was great, we did not use, due to the sun.

This resort is on the older side but the beach is gorgeous. Additionally, the staff were amazing. They were very friendly and helpful. There was a shortage of some food and drink items and the food was boring and repetitive. There was a shortage of fruit, vegetables, meat and some kinds of alcohol.

Nice resort with good staff. Public areas and grounds are nice and well kept although the public area bathrooms are often out of toilet paper. Beautiful beach. Food was good, and you were always able to find something in the buffet. The a la carte restaurants were a nice change. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. The Japanese was our favourite.

Playa Costa Verde is an amazing resort to have a nice relaxing holiday. Clean plenty to eat day & night & lots to drink too. Beautiful grounds & lovely clean rooms. Staff are amazing friendly & very helpful. I will return for a 3rd time next yr. Sue Mitchell from Canada

We love Cuba and have stayed at Playa Costa Verde many times. We enjoyed another wonderful stay in January. The staff were amazing as always-very friendly and delivering excellent service. The rooms are being renovated but some are still a little tired looking. Our bed was comfortable but the pillows were a bit lumpy. We noticed some improvements over our visit last year specifically with the food and drinks. The bars had a better selection of spirits and more varieties of beer at the Beer Corner. There was also a better selection at the buffet-there were eggs every day along with other choices for breakfast. A nice selection of fresh breads, butter, cheese, vegetables on hand for all meals as well. Dinner had the usual premade buffet selections with a roasted meat each night carved to your preference. There were also grilling stations with beef, pork, chicken, fresh fish & seafood grilled upon request. The pasta station was also available and is always popular. There were lovely pastries and cakes as well as delicious rice pudding and ice cream for dessert. The 24-hr Snack Bar had a better selection of foods available this year as well-French fries, fried chicken, sandwiches, pizzas & burgers. They also do breakfast here if you don’t fancy the buffet. We only visited one a la carte this visit-the Cuban restaurant and their food did not disappoint. The beach and pool are always great. Please note, there is a coral shoal near the shore which is great for snorkelling but can make it a little difficult for some. You may want to bring water shoes. We enjoyed walking the beach in addition to our swims. Jorge and the animation team provide lots of options to take part in, from water exercises & volleyball to foam parties. There are windsurfers, pedal boats, hobie cats & kayaks available to rent or borrow on the beach next to the beach bar where Sandra will pour your favourite beverage. Wednesday is Cuba Day when they bring in Cuban artisans, an antique car, Cuban dancers and band and do an authentic spit-roasted pig ready to enjoy in the afternoon. Thursday is Canada Day with poutine, sangria and activities celebrating the many Canadians who continue to visit the resort regularly. Cuba is still experiencing many shortages but the staff at this resort are great at working with what they have & go out of their way to provide you with a wonderful vacation experience.

Playa Costa Verde is an older hotel, that gets well maintained. It offers activities for young and old alike. The food situation was much improved from last year, despite the warnings of food and drink shortages that are posted on travel warnings to Cuba. Beach is amazing, and the ocean offers nice snorkeling spots right in the bay of the resort. During our 3 week stay we did not experience any black-out periods due to power grid problems that are regularly experienced by the Cuban people; the resort has back up generators and it is able to draw their power from 2 different power grids, so it is not often that they are without power. Staff at PCV is super helpful, friendly and courteous. (unlike some of its guests; if you experience rude behaviour, it is mostly from fellow tourists) It is quite difficult to rent scooters or cars due to the fuel/gasoline shortages that Cuba is experiencing. Because of this issue, the classic taxi fares have significantly increased, but are definitely worth booking, in order to experience the real Cuba.

Grounds well kept, plenty of food, great staff and very accommodating. Bars were great as well as the al la carte restaurants. Beach was beautiful and lots of non motorsports o choose from. Many different day trips to choose from.

The resort, although older is nice for the most part. The beach was beautiful and the staff was nice. There were certain basics that were missing. For one, the plumbing did not work for two nights and one could not flush the toilet. The patio door to our room did not lock properly. There was also no bottled water on one day. There were also few days were there were no eggs only egg substitute. The issue with that was that there was no real good alternative for breakfast. Lunches and dinners, although not spectacular were ok and there was something decent to eat. I do not recommend the so called restaurants. They use the same limited ingredients as in the buffet. The Japanese restaurant offered fried rice with canned veggies and some fried meat for example. Not really Japanese. Everyone went to the buffet afterwards. As I said, the staff of the hotel was nice, the grounds are also nice and the rooms big. The beach was gorgeous and offers kayaks and pedal boats. Keep in mind, that the beach is public and there are many locals on the weekends.

Playa Costa Verde exceeded my expectations! Spotless rooms, stunning beaches, amazing food and the people…These people! Every single person from the staff will become your friend. You are part of the family. It was worth it! Thank you, PCV!

Our Party of 5 cannot wait to go back to PCV! The staff treat us like family and we try to treat them right back! But holy moly, it was HOT the first week of June! We treasure our short time with our Cuban family. From the front desk staff, the cleaning staff, to Jesus at the pool bar, they are all fabulous with us and our girls. It's Cuba in 2024, so there are shortages, but there was enough food and drink variety for us. No eggs all week but we found lots to start our day. Sometimes the kids found pasta for breakfast - they were thrilled! Wifi works beyond the lobby but not all the way to the current snack bar (cuban restaurant).

Place was awesome , well keeped staff was amazing beautiful people food was a plenty , desserts were super nice , entertainment was great lots of fun after show in disco , amazing staff Restaurants were relaxing and fun , treated super special, flowers were fresh in bathrooms really nice

What a beautiful place to visit. We had a really good week. The place was very clean. The people were friendly. The beach was beautiful. I really didn't have any complaints about anything. The price was very fair.

We really enjoyed our first trip to this resort and plan to return. The staff in buffet were friendly and provided great service. The food at the buffet was very good. We enjoyed the Italian restaurant. Lots of activities were provided by the entertainment team. The fact that so many guests return here many times tells you how good this resort is! Remember US$1 bills for tipping, don’t tip with coins. Thanks PCV for a great trip!

This is our third time to Playa Costa Verde. First time since 2019. I had read many reviews and knew there would be food supply issues, not at this resort though. The food options were very similar to pre covid. I brought ketchup and butter and it was needed, had eggs everyday. The biggest issue was no Vodka, as that is our go to drink, we made due with white rum though. All other drinks were available including mohitos.The staff as usual second to none. The beach is amazing, the rooms were dated but kept very clean. Not an issue we didn't spend much time in our room. Hot water was plentiful. Only lost power for about 10 minutes the whole week. Can't wait to return. Maybe two weeks next time.

Our first visit was based strictly on reviews we read .Went for a week Came home for two weeks and went back again for another week . Next year it will be two weeks or longer . The resort is the perfect size .The beach ,pool and lobby are beautiful ! Rooms are a little dated but clean , large and well equipped. Very friendly staff in all areas of the resort . There are a lot of shortages in Cuba right now but we went knowing that so took our own sugar ,butter peanut butter, and lots of snacks . There was always something to eat in the buffet,snack bar and Cuban restaurant is open for lunch from 12:30 ~ 2:00 ( very good food ). I would recommend the “farewell Holquin “ tour if you have an evening flight home. Well worth it and a great way to see the city .The tour is offered by Sunwing and Transat . Perfect end to our vacation .

Very clean hotel but cutbacks and shortages have hurt them even more. There was no salt, no butter, no eggs for 3 days, and our beach towels had to last the week because there were no replacements. My first omelet was thinned with pancake batter. There were very little cold cuts of any sort to make a sandwich. There was no sugar anywhere except the buffet when they would bring you a sugar bowl and spoon. At the bar for coffee you got a "sweetener" which contained 2 artificial sweeteners. Until I saw these packages I thought the cola tasted like diet, now I know they were at least subsidizing the sugar with sweetener. I started getting Mojitos and that lasted 2 days when they ran out of ingredients so I ended up drinking dark rum and orange juice. It was so clear my wife thought it was Tang but it tasted good. I have had orange juice in Cuba before and it was always fresh squeezed with a lot of pulp. Everyone who worked the resort was friendly and went out of their way to help and please. I was very upset with many Canadians, many of them French Canadian who would not only "Reserve" lounges with their towels but would also save themselves garden chairs as well. I saw more than half of the couples with 2 lounges and a chair and many families of 4 with 4 lounges and 2 chairs. REALLY??? They act like teenagers and feel they are entitled to them. Maybe you should rent them daily for cash. Also, very few tipped at most meals. At the Japanese restaurant we sat with 3 other couples who we couldn't speak to because they only spoke French to each other. Only one other couple than us left a tip. Many tips were Loonies, Toonies and even quarters. They cannot exchange coin at the bank so bring American dollars for tips and keep the coin at home. The swimming and snorkelling was great. We did have a problem when my Mastercard was compromised from Canada and was blocked and an email said to call toll free or collect. The resort did not have a landline and we were unable to call to Canada at all. Lucky my wife had a Visa.

Went on this trip based on reviews only . We were not disappointed. Loved it and will definitely return for two weeks next time . Rooms a little dated but clean and spacious. Pool and beach were beautiful .

The hotel is of 27 years old yet it functions like its 10 the staff are over the top in service very clean and well maintained and manicured landscape , the entertainment was very good it was a very festive atmosphere all day and nightly music,food was surprisingly delish my kids and i were content with all the varieties and options ,spectacular beach and pleasant pools .

We have visited Playa Coste Verde at least 8 times over the years, and go back to connect with the incredible staff as it is just like going home for us. If you are looking for the most modern & up-to-date facilities, you won't find them here, but everything is well maintained & clean. There are lots of shortages in Cuba at the moment, so some food items aren't readily available, but the chef & staff did a great job of being creative & offered many different choices each day. It's really important for us to understand that the people of Cuba face overwhelming challenges and it seems to get harder for them each year, so I would encourage you to take along some items that you can leave behind. Health & beauty, feminine hygiene, and shoes are just a few examples. Please tip your servers as well.

Checking in was brief and you were sent to find your room. Room was clean, spacious and well maintained. Food…..hit and miss daily on food choices but you make the best of what they offer. Staff, 5* service! Didn’t matter if you at the snack bar, gym, lounge bar or restaurants. Beach was clean with ample sun lounges and chairs. Pool area was clean and beautiful. If you fixate on all the positive that this resort has to offer your vacation becomes a 4-5* experience!

We've have been to Playa Costa Verde many times. The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly. It is unfortunate that Cuba is struggling with fuel shortage and because of this, it is difficult to get food around the island. This is a political problem, not a hotel problem. We did not see any eggs all week, and Hot Dogs were a constant. I found that the meals were always the same. It's unfortunate because the "think outside the box" and getting creative was not there. (My husband and I are chefs) I feel Canadians are not that fussy when it comes to food, but make an effort to make the buffet different ie: always tons of cabbage and onion but no coleslaw. Grill cheese, stuffed crepes with white sauce. All ingredients we saw everyday that could have been utilized better. We spoke with people on the flight home and found everyone felt the same way at other hotels they were staying

Went in December 2023 with kids and vegan friends. The food was not good, poor quality, all too salty. Meet and fish are available, but absolutely no vegetables, only cucumbers, no EGGS entire two weeks of staying. Breakfast only pancakes and fried bread. Staying with kids was difficult, no food for babies. The beach quality 3 out of 5, lots of stones in the water, but water color is amazing...nowhere I saw such a beautiful sea. Wide beach with many of shadows. In the evening no concerts, just live music Overall ressort is very nice, territory is full of palm trees, convenient location of dinning, lobby and rooms. But, probably we won't go there again.

This is the third time I have been to this resort but things in Cuba have changed . Food quantity is short on buffet Eggs were only available 3 mornings out of 7 . Chicken was almost non existent and green salads like leaf lettuce romaine. No Bananas at all . Bar had no Pina coladas or other . Rum punch was usually the only other go to besides beer. The resort itself was in great need of maintenance, lighting ,grass maintenance. We don’t usually visit in December so could be because they have not geared up for the busy season yet. The weather was warm and sunny like always . Cuba needs a lot of help with the fuel shortage.

Overall, this was not a good trip. This was my third visit to PCV, this time travelling with my husband and each of our mothers. We booked back in October for one week Dec 6-13. Settle in -- this is going to be a thorough review ;-) Rooms: I requested an “accessible room” for our mothers as they are each in their late 70s and have some mobility issues and safety concerns. They did not have one ready upon arrival, so, on day two, we had to move the moms to a very run-down (albeit “accessible”) room. The front door and the deadbolt were both very difficult to open (sticking). The mirrors in the bathroom were all broken and chipped around the edges, as were the tiles. There were large, thick spider webs collecting bugs in the corners, and there were no blankets on the beds. As for our room, we paid for a king bed, but got two doubles. Front desk staff informed us that there were no king bed rooms, but we could check in with them daily to see if any would open up. Preferring to avoid the hassle and not wanting to move all our things mid-trip, we decided to stay put. The electrical outlets in the room did not work properly -- either pumping little to no current, or far too much current (causing my hair dryer to overheat in seconds). Overall, the room was clean. The mattresses and pillows have been upgraded since my last visit, and were quite comfortable. Towels and sheets were clean. AC worked really well. Balcony was large and comfortable. Fridge and TV worked. We went without hot water for 24 hours, and our water was shut off completely for about 12 hours one night. We were also locked out of our rooms without warning. Apparently the staff replaced the batteries in all the door locks, which meant we had to go to the front desk to reprogram our keys. We had no warning this was going to happen. Thankfully, our housekeeper let us in after breakfast and told us what was going on. Food & beverage: I was fully aware that the islands are experiencing food shortages, and I also know that you don’t travel to Cuba for the food. That said, in previous years, I’d never complained about the food, and no one ever went hungry. I can’t say the same for this trip. We had eggs on our first morning, and never again. There was no bacon or sausage or other breakfast meats. There were crepes (made with powdered eggs, I presume), but no toppings -- no fruit, jelly or syrup. There were packets of butter for bread the first few days. When that ran out, we were given chunks of lard disguised as butter. The rest of the buffet consisted of the previous night’s dinner. Lunch was similar at the buffet, serving remnants of previous meals, little to no fresh fruits or veggies. If you could get fresh fish at the hot counter before it ran out, that was tasty. Pair it with some rice and cooked cabbage, and you could call it a meal. The snackbar had fried fish from time to time, but it ran out very quickly. We were only able to snag some once on our last day. One day for lunch, the snackbar only served a ham and cheese sandwich, which came with one slice of cucumber and a few strands of cabbage on the side. No butter, no mayo, just dry white toast with a slice of bologna (what they call ham) and a slice of cheese. Other items at the snackbar sometimes included a tuna or chicken salad sandwich, Hawaiian pizza, ham and cheese pizza, hot dog and “chips,” which we couldn’t identify -- fried plantains perhaps? Buffet dinners started out as what I’d expected, but declined daily. The pasta bar was fantastic -- but the woman working it was sick (even lost her voice) and was seen coughing and hacking all over the food. I’m quite certain that’s where we picked up what we now know to be Covid. The fish station was good, too, but quickly ran out of supply. The rest of the buffet was mediocre at best. Still, if you weren’t “picky,” you wouldn’t go hungry. There seemed to be a shortage of flatware, glasses and cutlery. On numerous occasions we served ourselves ice cream on a hot plate, which we ate with a fork. But the ice cream was delicious! Desserts were what you’d expect; lots of pastries and squares, jello and rice pudding. The Italian restaurant was not worth our time. The food was cold and bland. The pasta station at the buffet was better. The Japanese restaurant was AMAZING. Raul, our chef, was delightful -- interactive, comedic, just a ton of fun. And the food was spectacular! We had rice with veggies, chicken, beef and shrimp -- all cooked with sauces (garlic, soya, etc.). Steakhouse was not open. Cigar lounge did not sell cigars. Clean drinking water was in short supply. Now, if you’ve ever been to Cuba, that may not come as a surprise. Each room was supplied with a 4L bottle of water, which was meant to last two people for 7 nights. We are not wasteful, and we are not greedy. But when I tell the front desk that my husband is sick and needs to hydrate, I expect to be given clean drinking water. Instead, I was told “I’ve made the report, and we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.” Not good enough (sorry, not sorry). Adequate amounts of clean drinking water is not a luxury, it’s a necessity -- particularly if you’ve picked up a virus. Even the bar and buffet began serving tap water mid-way through our trip, telling us they had run out of bottled water. Beach: Gorgeous. By far, the highlight of our trip. You’ll find a beach bar, restrooms and lots of non-motorized water toys. There was always someone there to help us find a spot along the beach and set up our chairs, which was a nice touch. If you’re allergic to bug bites, though, watch out for the noseeums (they mostly come out at night)! I didn’t have any trouble with them, but I saw lots of people covered in welts. That’s not a reflection on the resort, that’s just Mother Nature doing her thing! Pool: The pool was as I remembered. Considering it had been shut down for renovation, however, I wasn’t all that impressed. It certainly didn’t appear to have been “renovated,” but we weren’t bothered by that. We were just happy it was open. The activities around the pool weren’t what I remember. There used to be poolside bingo (I even won a bottle of rum once!), obstacle courses, and all kinds of silly fun games at the pool. This time, there was 3 pin bowling and velcro darts (I think). No prizes and very few participants. The so-called dancing lessons consisted of a group of workers forming a private circle to entertain themselves. And the aquafit class was little more than two workers waving their arms in the air to music. The swim up bar was lacking supplies as well. The frosty machines weren’t running, and the bartenders weren’t interested in creating tasty fruity beverages. Our options were beer, Cuba libre, or rum punch. Most of the staff were personable. Jesus, on the other hand, was quite sarcastic and rude to guests on more than one occasion. Smaller pool next to main pool is currently under renovation. One jacuzzi is fully drained, the other is filled with cold water. Service: Most of the staff were wonderful. The lobby servers, and bartenders were all fabulous, as were the housekeepers. The front desk staff, on the other hand, left something to be desired. They were short-tempered and seemed genuinely annoyed with guests. They were dismissive and unhelpful. But they certainly snapped to attention when their blue towels went “missing.” Suddenly, two staff members were right there, preventing us from boarding the bus to go home, demanding to know where our mothers’ beach towels were. Spoiler alert: the towels were left in the room. Our Sunwing rep was fantastic, very helpful, fun and always eager to please. The tour guides and bus drivers were also great. Entertainment: Or lack thereof … we spent 7 nights, and only saw two shows -- one in the theatre and one in the pool. It would have been helpful to see a schedule of when and where shows were happening throughout the week. Resort feedback: Provide a board of some sort in the lobby to let guests know when they can expect to see which evening shows Provide a 48-hour weather forecast (wind, rain, sun, etc.) at the front desk so guests can plan their days Communicate with your guests about scheduled maintenance and service disruptions Tips for guests: Bring your own food (cured meats, protein bars, chips, nuts, peanut butter, condiments, spices). Have lunch at the restaurant down by the beach! Have dinner at the Japanese restaurant (more than once!) There’s a hut by the pool where you can trade your used blue towel for a fresh one Do not trade Canadian or American dollars for pesos - there’s no need. You can pay for everything (including tips) with a Canadian credit card, debit or debit Visa, or CAD / US cash. (They don’t take credit cards that are affiliated with the US -- Amex, Capital One, etc.)

The hotel and staff were amazing. They always give you the best food that is available with the current sanctions exposed by the American government there is some shortages. Having said that i didn't lose any weight, The Sunwing experience was terrible im surprised that they are still in business. We paid for carry-on but we had no place near our seat to stow our paid forcarry-on. The rep from sunwing left my handicapped friend standard at the hotel on the return flight. She blamed him because he was too slow no help was offered. Shame on sunning and Cuba for employing such a cave person .

My wife and I spent a week at Playa Costa Verde. It was an hour’s drive to the hotel from the airport but it was nice to see the scenery. The resort was beautiful especially the reception area with the long Pothos plants hanging from ceiling about 50 feet in length. The room was great, close to the pool and the beach. The food was okay but could use some variety. I guess it could be because of the current shortages. The staff were super friendly and bilingual if you are not fluent in Spanish. There were excursions available if you wanted to venture off the resort or do your own thing. It was a great week.

Rooms are acceptable, but not impressive. Upkeep of the resort is mediocre. Staff is very friendly, helpful. If you’re not a nightlifer, this place is probably not for you, as partying is going on till at least midnight, with a lot of noise

I fell in love with this resort ! Very clean , huge pool , love the swim up bar and bartender Jesus !! Easy access to the beach ,lounges and a beach bar . Bring swim shoes ! They have a 24 hour snack bar ,lobby bar and buffet! Plus so much more ! Must see ! The people were the most amazing!

Just returned from a good and not so good week at Playa Costa Verde. Good Staff were excellent and very friendly. Beach was gorgeous and the pool was good but needed some repairs. Our room 5422 was good, lots of hot water and good pressure. Grounds were well kept and very clean. Beer, Wine, Rum, Voldka drinks were good. Ice Cream (Chocolate) was very good. Pasta, Eggs and Fish were in good supply. Ala Carte restaurants were good . Not so good Lack of toilet paper some days. No Olives, Lemon's or Lime's for Martini's or mixed drinks. No milk for two days, so Black Coffee and Tea and no specialty coffee's those days either. Few or no condiments for Hot Dogs, Fries etc. No Pizza for first 5 days, then they had heated up frozen pizza. Little or no cheese. No Hamburgers. No Ketchup, Mustard, Hot sauce We went with friends, so had a good week despite the shortfalls. If you don't mind carrying around your own condiments for breakfast, lunch and dinner the food is ok. Covid has really set Cuba and especially this resort back. We will no be returning until Cuba gets things back to the way it used to be.....

Hotel staff at all levels continue to make you feel that Hotel Playa Costa Verde is your second home. There were some shortages resulting from supp chain and embargo issues, like milk and burgers. However there were tons of other selections. Plan to return in August. My stay was like a dream that you are in control off.

The hotel it is amazing, clean and very well organized,Beautiful, Amazing and Great Resort for holidays, or family vacations, The employes very friendly and the service very excellent, puntual and quick. The security also very well efficient.

The restaurant staff who went above and beyond for my wife Mary's birthday. Jesus @ the swim up bar and his wife Tonya for an incredible off site supper. Delayed by Air Transit for a day and the hotel accomodated us in minutes. Our 26 x to Cuba, forst at this site and we will be back.

People were incredible, beach was amazing and the food was great! Lots of options for things and places to eat, and the beach volleyball was awesome. Definitely a highlight for us! Would highly recommend!

We are return visitors but had not been down since 2018 We were not sure what to expect as of course Cuba had suffered greatly with Covid a Hurricane and then shortly before wd went big bush fires Well we certainly had nothing to worry about. The hotel has upgraded and other than some work needed at the swim up bar the resort is kept spotless and is as beautiful as ever There were no shortages at the snack bar they served a variety of fried chicken fish, sandwhichs, French fries and the buffet was always full with many options The al acarte restaurants delightful especially the Japanese The swim.up bar had the greatest barman jesus who kept everyone entertained and made the greatest drinks Wilson and the gang in the lobby bar as always go out of their way to make you feel at home and the cappuccino are to die for The maid service is second to none the room's are spotless A shout out to Edecto who went over and above to make our stay a very wonderful experience The ladies who where our waitresses in the buffet daily and the buffet manager Thank you for making our Anniversary very special Danale and Rosie absolute ladies Thank you The wonderful gentleman who looks after the pool we thanks you for all your hard work and the entertainment staff i dont know where you get your energy, your all amazing No complaints from this couple Many Thanks and we cant wait until Christmas when we can return Debs & Charles

All areas of the resort were beautiful and well maintained! The staff was very welcoming. We really liked that things were quiet by a reasonable hour in the evening. We had a very peaceful stay and look forward to coming again.

Things are different right now in Cuba. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with this resort, there are some things people should know. When we were here last week, each room was provided a third per person of bottled water that you would usually get in Cuba. At best we received two 500 ml bottles of water a day, at worst one bottle -first night no water. Regardless of any other shortage you can make do but you can’t make do without water. You were able to take your refillable cup to the bars to get “filtered water” and it was a risk we had to take. However, I am far more comfortable, drinking bottled water in a 3rd world country then depending on whoever happens to be filtering it that day. We have been to Cuba multiple times and this is the first time one of us was sick (after 5 days there), no idea if it was related to the water or not but….. other than that no serious complaint

My fiancé and I had a fantastic week at this resort! March 1-8/23. The staff are so friendly, the room was great and very spacious, comfy bed, and so clean! Wifi was really easily accessible, and we felt so safe. I will absolutely be returning to this resort in the future.

The beach and ocean were amazing. The ocean was crystal clear, great for snorkeling. The rooms were spacious and the bed was comfortable although we did not spend very much time in the room or on the large balcony. The options for food were limited but I do not think its because of the resort. I think options are limited as Cuba is in very difficult times. It seems covid is no longer an issue in Cuba. Anyone is free to travel in this season of life.

This hotel's grounds were very well maintained. The gardeners were out daily working hard, the housekeeping staff were excellent. Our room was always so clean and the housekeeping staff were so kind, always smiling. Even though you could tell food was in short supply...they made the best of what they had. I always found something good to eat at the buffet and the Japanese restaurant was an excellent experience.

i always enjoy my stays at PCV. I have been going for 18 years excluding covid years. the rooms are always excellent. the staff is awesome. they are courteous and hard working. always return here. this year food was not as usual but still could find enough to eat.

Staff was friendly but thats about the only good thing I can say about my trip. Food was awful, I literally lost 7 lbs while there. It was all inclusive and they only had rum or beer. No other drink options. Honestly just not a nice vacation at all. The highlight of the trip was when I got to fly home.

Extremely well kept grounds, rooms were kept clean but are showing signs of aging. Food ... not fabulous, pretty bland but there was always something to eat. Lots of chairs at the beach, but not at the pool 🤔

This is a good hotel if you are on a budget. The hotel grounds are very nice and clean. The private rooms could really use an update! As they have not been touched in over 20 years! The housecleaning staff was great and even though they keep it very clean you can’t overlook wear and tear! Excellent entertainment staff! They make you feel welcome! Serving staff was great! Overall good value!! Unfortunately there were lots of mosquitoes and got too many bites making my stay uncomfortable! Also medical staff is very limited in medication available to them!

My room was clean, air conditioned, comfortable large bed. Plenty of food. Tastiest chicken was outstanding both, freshly sauteed in front of me, and chicken also in the hot trays. Only white wine. No red wine. Spirits were rum only. Plenty of eggs for omelettes, sunnyside up. We had fresh papya and domestic fruits, coissants/fresh baked bread. Ala-cart, Japan was the BEST - four meats, chicken, pork, beef and basa fish; Italian, also great and Cuban. Beach water was too many coral rocks. You need watershoes. Next time I will bring watershoes. Plenty of chairs to lie under shade or sun. Cubans always there to provide chairs. We had an amazing great time every day. Night shows were entertaining and enjoyable.

We have been at PCV before and we could see that some upgrades were done during the covid shut-down period. The bungalow blocks were freshly painted, steps going to the second story were replaced in many bungalows, the lobby and cigar lounge have been updated. The beach was beautiful all always, water was crystal clear and its great snorkeling right out from the hotel, if you go a bit further out into the bay. All staff was friendly, helpful, and personal. The food at the buffet is as good as it can get with what gets supplied to the resort. The cooks manage to create several different dishes, yet with same ingredients. There was enough fresh cabbage, salad, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers to create a variety on our dinner plates. The bread was better than a couple of years ago. There are enough scooters for rent, but very few are actually in good working condition, so you might have to wait a couple of days, if you want to rent a scooter. Reading some of the bad reviews on Tripcentral about this resort must have been written by tourists who came to Cuba with wrong expectations in the first place. We have not seen any rude/negative behaviour from any Cubans (staff or guests), yet it is not difficult to find fellow Canadians behave rude, careless, and disgusting; leaving plastic cups everywhere around the pool area, filling half filled cups with cigarette butts, etc. What is most disappointing is to see guests leave plates filled with food as they leave the buffet area, which will then have to be thrown into the garbage, while the cuban people outside of the resort have no food to speak of. Shame on those tourists! The resort PCV is dated, but kept clean. Its the staff that makes this resort stand out from the other resorts in the area of playa Pesquero.

We like units being only 2 stories and 16 large rooms per unit. Our room was clean, the water was hot and very room had a balcony. The grounds were well maintained and all areas were clean. The beach was amazing!! Food was what we expected for a Cuba.

Before I review the resort I must comment on the travel experience. Every detail that Sunwing controlled was delayed from start to finish which was a major fail. I would definitely look for a non Sunwing travel package the next time we vacation. On to the resort. This is my 9th vacation in Cuba and first time at the Playa Costa Verde feel that I can fairly compare this to the other 4 star resorts we've stayed at. The rooms are very dated and would barely rate them 3 star. There are no ocean front rooms and ocean view would be a stretch as there is a natural wetland between the resort and beach so not worth the extra surcharge. We were in a ground floor room and all through the week there was construction noise above us, ie moving furniture, running water, sometimes til 330am. Called front desk on four separate occurrences of which one call was answered and noise stopped but resumed the following night. The grounds were well kept and appealing to the eye. The staff in general were not very inspired. There were a few friendly faces but most seemed like they didn't want to be there. As far as the tourists go, 90% Quebecers. Large groups, very loud and obnoxious. Would avoid this hotel on that fact alone. Also found that the hotel was hosting locals as well, apparently a perk mandated by the government. Not a problem with them being there except I found the resort amenities strained by the influx, was not able to get a seat at the buffet one night, had to eat at the snack bar. The food and drink were the worst we've had in Cuba over the years. No potatoes, no mojitos, no cereal. I know that the food offerings are usually repetitive in Cuba but there was little variety to choose from. Of the a la cartes, Cuban was best, Japanese second and Italian would be a pass. Not sure if this is a complication due to covid or the ongoing embargo but it has noticeably deteriorated from our last visit (at a different resort). Met people that have vacationed at the costa verde for 13 yrs and said that this was the worst that they've seen and would probably not return. As we are beach people, that is the saving grace of this resort. One of the best beaches we've been to, not over crowded and plenty of activities aside from soaking up the sun. Fantastic snorkeling right from the beach, volleyball courts busy and entertaining, non motorized sporting equipment always available. Beach loungers usually available but safer to get out before breakfast and reserve. Not too overcrowded like the neighbouring Pesquero, the whole beach side by side, six rows deep! We decided not to do any excursions but were disappointed when the scooter rentals out front were unavailable due to multiple breakdowns. 75% were out of service due to a lack of batteries. Shoppers are out of luck, this is a out of the way location and the trinkets and souvenirs are not widely available. There is a small flea market across the street but mostly hustlers looking to buy what you have. We enjoyed our vacation in the sun but feel that the issues with the airlines and the constraints with the resorts, apparently a Cuba wide problem, would probably avoid Cuba til things get sorted out.

The rooms are so dated it's unreal. Had 2 move twice. Third time a have a room and it's has ants everywhere in our toothbrushes. The front desk Staff are rude and obnoxious. The wait staff at the bars just stand around whilst you wait to get a coffee ect. The front desk staff demand a tip when you go there there's one man inaparticular. He wears designer clothes and is as rude as they come. Still have 4 days to go and not a good place. Only decent thing surprisingly is the food. The management need to take a look at there best practices. This has put a bad taste in my mouth on Cuba as a hole. Will not be coming back to Cuba.

The resort is very homey, cozy, clean and staff are super nice and friendly. I’m a repeated customer and like this resort very much. But there is a huge difference compared to last year. Many things are lacking, food is very poor, this time there was no fish in a restaurant/ buffet. I guess it’s not a fault of hotel management but rather the outcome of current economic situation in Cuba. We were not hungry of course but tired from the same daily menu. Another thing that bothered us are mosquitoes or tiny flies which are on a beach and biting terribly… I believe they can do something about it, it wasn’t so bad last year… overall it was a good vacation. Just wishing Cuba to get better and people to stay strong to overcome this situation.

Good ground, room, dinner and services. Nicely manicured gardens and flowers. Beach is not far away. Room cleaning lady was not doing her job and the toilet was not flushable mosttimes due to water shortage. Internet service at the lobby but with limits.

It is not our first time in Holguin, but it is our first time in the Costa Verde hotel. Playa Costa Verde is not a new hotel, but it has wonderful grounds (which is important to us, we like walks), a nice long beach and a pool, and it is reasonably maintained. We considered newer hotels such as the Iberostar but the Iberostar has a tiny little beach with no shade. Get your mosqitto repellent (the trees on the beach are mosquitto traps) and your sunscreen and your are set. We had 10 days of perfect weather and a nice experience and we would return.

Over all it was good experience. Staff were very friendly and helpful. But there were shortage of napkin. Not only that I had issue with sand flees. I got a lot of skin irritation. Beach and swimming pools, Restaurants were Okay. Gym and medical center was not bad!

This was our 7th visit.Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff My home away from home. Although the buffet was a little less desirable, there was always something to eat. The staff are amazing. Always pleasant, go the extra mile to make our stay much more fun. Thanks Roberto for my nightly spanish coffee. Perfecto!! Voyage with Trip central Hôtel not recommended- Playa Costa Verde Thursday 25/08/2022 We get in the airport (Montreal) they gave us the tickets to embark in airplane; the first problem met us there: they gave us a different place from what I asked the Trip central’s representative, which I paid more $200.00Canadian Dollars to have a comfortable seat for my wife and me. In the airplane: the company OWG, I think it’s a (new company), I stunned! Charm Captain, and People and services, they give us a meal for dinner, different from AirTransat or Sunwings: which We went with them Cuba last trip. In the bus: everything went smoothly, we arrived in the hotel; we met by the receptionist, he gave us the room No. 1112, I asked him if we can see the room first before chick-In he told me the room O.K but we don’t have another to change it. We took our dinner hoping we see a good service in the restaurant tomorrow. Trace of Spider in the room (1112): I tried to call the reception many times, but nobody answers, we slept this night anyway, there is no hot water to wash ourselves. Friday 26/08/2022 No hot water to take shower, we tried to wash our faces, to go on to the restaurant taking the breakfast, it seems very poor service, we went around 08:00 o’clock, it seems a shortage of food!!! We went back to the reception telling them - the room smell bad because it’s near of the stook rooms of the housekeeping department, and a lot of strange Insects - and we want to change the room. He answered me we can’t change the room now; we will change it after 16:00, I asked him about his name he answer ‘Roger’, I asked Mr. Roger is there any manager or Supervisor to speak with, He entered the back office, and came back with a charmed person called Mr. Miguel (Michael) in English, and he told me to pack my Luggage’s to move from the room to another (2827) , Somebody from bellman helps us to move over there, then we decide to go to the beach, but there is no beach’s towels, it solved. In our way to the beach its smell very bad, we found a Rotten Canal, and I asked the guard about and he told me what it means it likes a (protected reserve) But it’s smell very bad. We continue to spend one hour on the beach, and back to change and take shower to go to take lunch at the restaurant. A water cut-off when we get back from the restaurant. Saturday 27/08/2022 Early morning coffee at 06:30 waiting for breakfast 07:40, back to the room, it’s very hot, preparing to go to the beach around 10:00, same dirty Canal, we passe it to the beach, I went swimming when coming back I swallowed water the people grabbed me to the shore, I vomited a lot, they send me to the hotel’s clinic for treatment with Dr. Ricardo, after two hours we (my wife and me) went back to the room, a lot of bad things happened today the water cut off also, I’m almost dying to today, I can’t go to eat I asked them to bring some food they brought it badly things after 2 hours 45 minutes. This hotel worth two stars maybe a motel!!! Sunday 28/08/2022 Playa Costa Verde, badly managed, Reception: they give the room’s keys for whole the stay and give the internet code for 5 hours you have to go back to renewing the 5 hours, I asked them: why you didn’t give the internet code as the room key’s they didn’t want answer!!! About the restaurant: it’s badly managed also, after one hour there’s a shortage of food, they should know how many guests they going to serve and put the food on course like not one shot but three times to serve all the people. And lately the water-cutting problem it’s very bad!!! Monday 29/08/2022 Always the water cutting off, and the electricity also. I found Insects in the bathroom Treatment at 09:00 with Antibiotic Injection. Tuesday 30/08/2022 A little of anything better than nothing: breakfast, and to the Clinic to take the Antibiotic Injection for treatment. I went to the restaurant at 14:12 to take lunch, but nothing to eat; I went public relation, it seems nobody care. You have obliged to take from what’s leftover or You have nothing to eat!!! When we went back to the room, we found an invitation from the Hotel direction for supper at 06:00 PM, Wednesday 31/08/2022, to honor the Canadian community in the Italian restaurant. Wednesday 31/08/2022 Early morning coffee in the lobby at 06:15 until breakfast time 07:30 after going to the Clinic to take the last antibiotic treatment, and back to the room. At 09:00 went to see the Doctor and take last date treatment. Back to the room, around 13:15 we went to take lunch it seems that there a shoring of food, the food not enough!!! At 18:00 We went to the Italian restaurant, I felt that the hotel’s direction feels guilty for us, for that reason they invite us to forget the bad things, but we don’t!!! Thursday 01/09/2022 It’s our leaving day we wished to close our eyes finding ourselves home to Canada. Coffee in the lobby at 06:30 my wife came, went to the restaurant for breakfast, around 07:45, back to the room to prepare our luggage’s around 12:45 the bus came to pick us to the airport. All the staying there is no hot water at all. Conclusion: I need my money back $1516.00 + $200.00 = $1716.00 , Bad Trip, Bad organized, and bad Hotel.

Terrible food, terrible drinks, This was my 40th trip to Cuba, never went for the food as I expected that, but that was by far the worst ......that beach was clean but very rocky for the first 10 meters or so going in the water, but then nice sand. I love Cuba and I will go again but never to that place or beach again.

food was good, rooms clean, layout of resort was not too large so everything was conveniently located . Will come back in the future, the beach was one of the best I've seen. The shelters where a nice to have since they protected you from the sun all day.

We have traveled to Holguin many times. We usually stay at the cheapest resort available because we are more interested in seeing friends instead of enjoying the resort. It is a smaller resort, everyone gets to know you over the span of a week, if you like that experience this resort is for you. The pool area is nice the beach is great. It is in a bay and well protected, on a windy day the ocean is still calm. I would recommend water shoes as it is rocky getting into the ocean in most places. The food was a step above what we usually experience although it is good to know only 3 ala carte restaurants can be booked on a 7 day vacation. I thought we could book a restaurant every night. It was pleasant staying here but in my opinion it is not worth the extra money to stay here compared to a cheaper resort.

Due to Covid, my experience at Playa Costa Verde wasn't as perfect a vacation as I am accustomed to. But I was pleased that some of the regulars that I have not seen in 2 yrs greeted us with open arms and made us feel right at home. I did find that there was lack of some of my favorite foods ( bacon, fruit) but I can only blame COVID for that. The A La Carte dinners were exceptional. It was very hot (34C) for 9 days and found that our air conditioning was not fuctioning at full strength. I appreciated the fact that the locals were visiting the resort, but did not appreciate the fact they pretty much took over the resort. Some of them were pretty rude. All in all it was a great time and look forward to going back again

Our family went to this resort in March 2022 and we had an amazing time! Great weather, good food and an amazing beach that you can snorkel right in front of the resort or walk the white sand beach. The market is just across the road for shopping and many excursions available. The staff was friendly and attentive and our pool bartender Jesus, was the best! We will definitely visit this resort again!

My daughter and I stayed a week. The trip was affordable.we had a great experience from start to finish, our flight was great staff were fabulous aboard. The hotel was clean and followed all covid protection measures. They were very accommodating for a 3 year old. Our maid kept our room clean every day and staff always attended to ask if I needed anything for my child. She absolutely loved the kods disco in the evening, and the food in both the buffet and the a la carts were very tasteful. Even my 3 year old enjoyed the food.room was spacious and the bed very comfortable.Definitely recommend this place totally worth the price and more.

After finally securing Out of Country Medical coverage……which by the way….is difficult when you are old and have health issues…..we had a very lovely relaxing week in Cuba. Playa Costa Verde is a special place because of the staff, the natural protected mangrove, the birds, and spacious rooms. Considering the severe shortages of food etc in Cuba, it was a miracle that our buffet was as good as it was. We always had great choices, helpful staff, and the staff continue to do the service. I hope this continues even after the COVID rules relax, it works well, is safer, controls the portions better, and less waste. We would recommend this location for a relaxing couple weeks. However, because of the dreadful lines in all airports, it is better to go for more than just one week. LJJ

solid 4 star hotel, staff is fantastic, location a bit remote.no broken floor tiles and everything as clean as it could be, food is like everywhere in Cuba but no complaints, large pool and ocean is a 5 minute walk but is part of the resort, i will certainly return

Playa Costa Verde has been absolutely the best hotel in holguin I have visited there more than 36 times an it continues to be my favourite the staff an service is amazing an all amenities are clean and well kept .

The room is good, the maid service is excellent. The beach is a dream for small children, since it is on the lee side and the sea is very calm. The pools are nice, almost all the amenities one would need are there. The entertainment is also good, corresponding to a 4-star resort. There is not always hot water. The bad news - apparently the resort was suffering severe supply problems, since the food was pretty poor. Until the 5th day (the 1st of January) meat, fish and seafood were nowhere to be seen, except chicken wings and once canned seafood. And everything was tasteless. Due to COVID the guests have to wait for teh personnel to put the food in their plates and this is a huge inconvenience. Hopefully this will be gone soon. The Italian restaurant was excellent, the others were pretty good too. On the 1st of January the things changed radically and everything went back to normal with the food, as I knew it. Meat, fish and seafood, reappeared in the buffet restaurant, the taste in the food too. Must say that the personnel is trying their best in the difficult situation. Example - there is "only one computer" at the reception and when a big group arrives, one should forget about getting help there. What were we missing and what could be better: - no tea - a big minus for me personally - no kettle available to have in the room - for a family with a toddler this is a must - no flexibility for a late check-out - we had to wait until 10 a.m on the day of our departure to find out whether we can keep the room for a few more hours - not enough street lighting around the resort

All workers wore masks at all times. Everything keep clean and workers went out of there way to make the trip a happy vacation. There was plenty of food so there was no way you would go hungry. Music a bit louder than I would like around the pool, but again I am an older person and the younger generation enjoy it. Was nice hearing Spanish music most of the time instead of English after all we were in Cuba. Beach was clean, water clear just be careful the rocks. This is a natural beach. I would not think twice about going back again. Had a great time and looking forward to someday returning Was there Dec.07-21, 2021

Return Visit  Dec5 8 to Dec 29 - 3 weeks    Unfortunately this visit was very disappointing unlike our previous one. Our first week was good but as we got closer to Christmas there was a notable change in food quantity, quality and an increase of people with bad manners.  We were the minority these three weeks with Locals representing over 95% of the guests.  Sorry but using the excuse that Canadians don't understand the cultural differences does not justify the bad manners we encountered. We tipped in CUP and Canadian, they can use CUP to purchase many items and tipping in Pesos will spread your tips amoung many.  We were able to pay in Canadian for drinks at the Airport.  You need a credit card to pay for your Covid return test and purchases in the stores,  so we used Canadian, CUP, Visa and U.S. funds. The maid was tipped in Canadian at the end of each week, she was great and we only had two problems with the room, the safe and a light which were fixed promptly. Tourists and locals need to respect staff by wearing your mask when approaching staff along with approaching fellow tourists and when walking in common areas.  We saw families of up to 14 come in for day passes and overnight stays not wearing masks so not surprisingly now seeing their Covid numbers increasing dramatically.  The staff were great, no complaints there, however we probably won't be returning as we didnt  enjoy the nightly crap show at the buffet with rude people constantly butting in, hoarding plates of food and touching the food with their hands.  We had people yelling in the corridor and drunks banging on our door every night at 2 am along with locals peeing in front of the table we were eating at while at the snack bar.  There were a few food and beverage shortages that occurred usually after the weekend visits by the locals. No condiments or salt and pepper to be found. We are not new to Cuba having been there over 70 times over the past 15 years.  I have to say this was the most disappointing trip so far.  The hotel was equivalent to a 2 star for food during our visit, the excellent service just couldn't make up for everything else.

Excellent vacation! We stayed at Playa Costa Verde from Tuesday December 7 - Tuesday December 14, 2021. Checkin was fast and reception staff were very professional and helpful during checkin and throughout our stay. Rooms (although a little dated) were clean, air conditioning worked great, lots and a variety of TV channels, great water pressure (hot and cold) and wonderful housekeeping staff. Food at buffet was hot, tasty and plentiful. The pasta and pizza station at the buffet was amazing! Lots of fresh fruit, omlettes and smoothies at breakfast and amazing breads, soups and salads at lunch. If you can't find something to eat at the buffet I would say it is a YOU problem. Desserts and ice cream to die for. Amazing cappuccinos and service at lobby bar. Snack bar food was good; service a little slower. All waiters, waitresses, bartenders, gardeners, security, etc. were friendly, attentive and professional. The beach is gorgeous and great for snorkeling. We did not take nor needed watershoes and just walked around coral on sandy bottom. COVID-19 test was non evasive and doctors, etc. very compassionate and professional. No shortages at resorts (food, water, staff, food, etc). No coffee makers or kettles in rooms so pack your own if that is important to you. Beach towels in room when we arrived (standard room) with mini bar filled daily with water and soda (no beer). Free wifi and could get it everywhere on resort. Excellent nightly entertainment. Japanese (entertaining and great dinner) and Cuban (beef was tender and tasty) a la cartes were very good with attentative staff. Resort was about half capacity during week a bit busier on weekends with locals and all had a great time. Pool was clean and entertainment engaging but not in your face. A family oriented resort but young couples around having fun and all visitors respectful of each other. Our Sunwing representatives were helpful with any of our questions. We tipped with small Canadian bills. Excursions and lobby store all using VISA card. Market took Canadian money as did off site restaurants and taxis. We did not change any Canadian money into national pesos as not needed. Covid protocols followed by guests and staff and we felt safe all week. Handsoap and sanitizer readily available throughout resort. We had a fabulous time at Playa Costa Verde and would go back in a heartbeat. We have been to Cuba over fifteen times (seven times to Holguin) and this resort is among the best of our favorites (Brisas Guardalavaca, Iberostar Holguin and Sol Luna y Mares) in Holguin. Get off the resort, see the real Cuba, meet the locals, go to one of the local fabulous restaurants, stay healthy, happy and safe!!!

First about the covid test: The young curly long haired male nurse / doctor in Playa Costa Verde, should be fired. I watched in horror lined up to get my 72 hour pcr test, as many Canadians walked out with major tears in their eyes, covering their noses with hands, some not being able to walk straight. As I sat down for mine he yelled twice "RELAX! RELAX!" then shoved my head back and stuck the swab so far up, the immense pain caused me to scream! And he then the other nostril even harder! And I'm not a wuss by any means. I could barely walk out of there as I was so disturbed by what just happened and in pain. The swab was about 6 inches long, and went WAYYY too far. I tried to "shake it off", and went to the beach, tried to calm down but ended up walking to my room and spending 2 hours crying because I was in shock over the ordeal. I was literally shaking! I kept tasting blood going down the back of my throat. I couldn't breathe through my nose. The next day there was dried blood in my nose! I spoke with many people after that, and ALL said it was beyond excessive! Even the staff knew the next day that something was wrong! Attitudes went somber. If this happened to you, speak up and fill out a complaint form, google your airline and complaint form. If someone was on blood thinners, this could have ended up very bad! Another thing, many people weren't wearing masks in the buffet, and the soap in the washrooms was out lots, the hand sanitizer was either cholorine or bleach. The random PCR test upon arrival back in Toronto, was a breeze, just barely up your nostril (fiance got selected). As for a review of the resort, let me start of by saying I am a seasoned Cuba traveller. Never going to the same resort twice, so I have a lot to compare to...over 15 3 and 4 star hotels within the last few years. I can give a real review, vs those that go there over and over and see nothing wrong since they are "friends" with resort workers. No rose colored glasses here. The food was 1/10, let me tell you why: Everything was bland. The chicken, pork, beef all tasted the same. No seasonings anywhere other than salt. No garlic, nothing. No pepper even on the tables and when you asked, they handed you an empty one. No butter! Never seen that! No salad dressings, not even the old school home made ones, where you have no clue what it is. No mustard! Not even mustard in a bowl with a spoon like some resorts had. No vodka, no tomatoe juice (unless you went to the store and purchased it...why can't they do that and provide to the guests??). I've had maybe over 30 a la carte meals in Cuba and the italian wins for the worst. Pasta with "alfredo" sauce, no chicken, no veg...just hard dried out pasta with sauce that tasted like milk. The water in the buffet was beyond gross, you could smell dirt and taste it. No wonder so many people were sick! IF you had great food in the past here, it's no longer. 70% of guests were over 50 years old. They played celeine dions candle in the wind, in the lobby at night. No night shows. Day entertainment was Boci Ball. Why did I give 2 stars instead of 1? The room, although 1980's style, had good AC and hot water. And the staff here were amazing. The reason I picked this resort is because I've been to Playa Cayo Santa Maria before, and it was amazing. Had high hopes for this one. If you're reading this and haven't booked yet, let me recommend my top three: Playa Cayo Santa Maria, Melia Jardines Del Ray, and for lots of fun, Tryp Cayo Coco. They are the faves amongst the other 15 I've been to. Cliffs notes: If you are over 50 and want to relax, don't care about food, then this is the resort for you.

The hotel staff did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The only down side is the Cuban's that were guests at the resort were extremely rude and wasteful,leaving mounds of food uneaten on their plates and stealing essentials like butter. This was out of the staff's control, not sure what can be done about that. Overall, we had a great time and will definitely be returning to Playa Costa Verde!

I had the pleasure of being the 1st guest at the grand re-openning since their shutdown and as the many times was treated to a warm welcome and a great time. Service as always was impeccable. The food good. Yes selections were down a bit,since Cuba has had shortages, but what they had exceeded the usual standards. The ala cartes took a few days to begin openning but once they did the menus were good as ever. Cuba is hurting in many ways but hospitality is not one of the hurting areas.

Small resort with bungalows. Clean rooms with comfortable beds. Well manicured grounds. Lots of food to choose from buffet. Friendly staff. Nice beach.Would recommend this resort for families or couples. To get to beach have to cross over bridge which is loaded with all kinds of water birds.

Staff were great. Food was allright. Beach was amazing nice clear blue water with a reef making it great for snorkeling I was busy for hours. The rooms are very outdated and shower/tub is hard to get in and out of.

From the time we arrived to the time we left our experience at this resort was great. Rooms were very clean, lots of variety at the buffet, beach was fantastic (bring water shoes....a little rocky in some places) and the staff were awesome. Wifi was a little hit and miss but I didn't travel there to stay "connected" for long periods. Reception seating could use some updating but for the amount of time it was needed, it was fine. Many guests I met were repeat guests so that says something positive about this resort.

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation. The staff are friendly, the food was enjoyable, and the main thing I noticed was the resort was very clean. I would recommend this resort to other people, and will most likely return there the next time I travel to Cuba

We keep going back to PCV because of the fact that the staff at PCV really works as a team. Everyone, from lobby staff to gardeners, is doing their very best to make us feel right at home. They work hard at keeping all their guests happy. The buildings are dated, but kept very clean and quite comfortable. The pool area and resort grounds are very well kept. The buffet offers a wonderful variety of food and how the food is prepared; its so important to remember that they can only work with what is available to them; they give us the best that they have and we have never gone hungry during any of our stays at PCV. Bread was amazing during our stay Feb 2020. PCV is located in such a way that there are many opportunities to explore the surrounding area/places. We rented scooters, rented a car, and really explored cuban countryside. It is so safe; we go anywhere without any worries and we just love the cuban hospitality which we meet every time both on as well as off the resort. PCV is an amazing place to be; it draws us back time and time again.

For this was the first time ever for me to venture off on my own to anywhere. The Playa Costa Verde Resort was an amazing place on so many levels. The grounds were well maintained very easy to remember how to get around, the beach was gorgeous. The food was awesome, I even tried squid for the first time lol... To top it all off the staff was top notch they truly are amazing people there and I will definitely be back there. Thank you Yours truly Mark Zavitz

Hotel is very clean & well maintained. Some upgrades are required but they seem to be trying. Food is good, a la carte restaurants are amazing. Have been there 14 times & still love it. Staff is amazing. Looking forward to returning next year 😊.

We won this trip but had some friends pay to come with us and we were more than pleased. The food on the resort was some of the best resort food we've eaten despite some reviews ( we've travelled to Punta Cana, Riviera Maya, Puerto Plata and Costa Rica prior to this trip ). For a change in flavours I would highly recommend the japanese a la carte. We were served teriyaki stir fry with whichever meat you'd like in it. I would visit this restaurant in Canada if it was available. The rooms we stayed in were older but clean with working AC and hot water which we've had problems with on some other resorts. The pool entertainment was constant and fun. The ocean was nice, but there were large chunks of coral. To go swimming we had to have footwear. Some workers were an absolute pleasure, and some were very poor quality but I'd give the service a 4/5. The weather was beautiful the entire week. We'lll definitely be going back to Cuba after this stay!
