Meets All My Needs
Allegro Palma Real, April 12, 2023 to April 20, 2023 Since this is a Trip Advisor my best advice for anyone planning on visiting any country for the first time is, do a little research. Look into traditions, conditions, laws and be respectful. After all you are a visitor in their country. After a 3 year break due to Covid, I was able to enjoy my 25th stay (my best guess) at The Palma Real. I was more than happy with what I had found. One thing that you will notice is the large number of multiyear return guest at this resort. There must be a good reason for this. “We†had several discussions on why so many returns and everyone came up with the same two answers. 1. The staff, I can’t say enough about them but I’ll try. 2. The returning guests are of the same mind in that they tend to be open to meeting new friends, have a good time, are helpful, and just add something to your time together. Upon arrival Oscar and the security staff are on duty at the front door keeping things safe. Great smile, strong handshake. At the front desk, check in is smooth and pleasant . Marley and her staff make a good first impression. My thoughts and prayers go out to a long time friend Marisol and her family. In the lobby bar you will served by Yara, Alina, and others. Efficient and pleasant service, professional but like to make things fun for everyone. You can get a great cup of coffee served the way I like it, “with a smile†from Learys. You can always find a good omelette for breakfast or eggs the way you like them. Pancakes, sausage, toast, juice will get your day off to a good start. No problem getting a hot meal at noon or supper. The a la carte is worth reserving. The snack bar is always open if you feel like a burger or sandwich. Many improvements have been made to the resort, most notably the two new pools with new pool decks, new showers, wheelchair accessibility to the pool bar. The additional waste cans help keep the grounds clean. New canopy covered walks provide shade and cover from the rain. Mike “The Pool Guy†and staff have the pools clean and clear. Speaking of the pool bar, it’s a happening place all afternoon. I noticed that there are many guests from The Arenas Blancas and Solymar that find the Palma Real pool, the place to be. The music is great and the bar tenders are super. Roberto and Yosleidys -â€Tatica†keep things flowing and are so much fun to be around. I would remiss if I didn’t mention a relatively new employee. Anita was a great find. She has personality plus, whether working the pool bar or the buffet, you can’t miss her. The rooms were freshly painted and spotless. The beds are comfortable. I especially like the new thick pillows. Lots of hot water and good air conditioning. The WiFi works fine, but you’re on vacation , give that a rest also. The evening shows and water ballet display some real talent. The location is prime. No need to rent a car or call a taxi. The new Varadero Boulevard is literally right out the front door. Check it out on YouTube. Three of the best night spots in Varadero are within a 5 minute stroll. The Beatles Bar is on the edge on Josone Park and has really good rock cover bands that alternate nightly. Walking back to the resort there’s Cub 62, basicly a street dance with live Cuban music. Just down Calle 62 heading to the resort there’s The Havana Club. It’s actually built in the resort. It’s a disco with the latest dance mixes, light and video shows. A stroll to the beach is a must. I prefer the mornings to about 10am, before it gets too hot. Take your time and it should take you all of five or six minutes to get to one of the best beaches in the world. The Palma Real is the best value with the best staff in the best location near the world’s best beach. I couldn’t ask for more.

Great location and loved the resort
Many upgrades done and having access to the other sister resorts water sports and snack bar was the bonus that made staying a block away from beach worth while, Lots of variety in food and plenty of it when we were there, pool was newly done and very refreshing. Friendly Resort
We arrived at palma real 12 days ago .This hotel has been closed over 2 years since covid and they have redone the pools since then The rooms are still the same but at least everything was in working order The atmosphere was great everybody reuniting for first time in years and the staff are all very friendly and helpful The food unfortunately has not changed but they do the best they can with what they have ! And there are a lot of shortages in Cuba right now The whole front of the hotel is now busy with vendors and restaurants and very built up now You can't beat the location it's right in the middle of all the action and within walking distance to Beatles bar Although the beach is located across the street it's a short walk and you have access to 2 more great hotels Great holiday stay !

Good resort for the price
Arrived in late and had no problems with getting the room I had requested. The resort has had some updates since last year but could still have more. The room service was very good clean towels every day and two great maids Yuni and Margarita. Apron arrival Felix was there to take our luggage to our room.In the dining room Yandry always had a smile and a table reserved. The second knight of our stay the resort had a special dinner for repeat guests and a bottle of Cuban rum sent to the room. The stay for the week we were there was very relaxing.

Cuba Vacation
Hotel is ideal location downtown next to Havana Club nightclub, House of Rum, Bank, Calle 62 Bar, Barbacaos Steakhouse and many shops. Beach is a walk down the street which is unfortunately under repair. Snack/bar available and loungers under shade. Beach is very beautiful. Hotel is older and rooms need updating/repair. Moved to a better room with walkout to pool without issue. Entertainment shows and music daily at the pool in the afternoon. Buffet always had something - beef potatoes ice cream omelettes . No ice at pool bar. Lobby bar can get crowded. Good resort for a good price. Airport on return was packed ' -lineups out the door and flight delayed. Smoking room in airport after security.

Good Resort Downtown
Good resort located downtown within walking distance to shops, restaurants, nightclubs and bank. Beach is across the street which had construction going on. Older hotel with swimup bar and music/entertainment at the pool. Nightly shows with bar available. Buffet choices were repetative. A la cartes were only open on fri/sat. Italian pizzaria was not opened. Snack bar choices were limited. Wine only available at the buffet or to purchase at the shops on site. Ran out of ice most days and rum one night. Most of the staff are very kind and accomodating and a pleasure to talk to. 2 of the buildings were shut down - the place must get packed when in full operation! Enjoyed my time here and would return for the right price.

Great location and personnel
Being close to everything (local merchants, shops, night life, restaurants, casa del ron etc) this is one of the best locations in Varadero. Yes the hotel needs renovations, there was some rude and inconsiderate Russian guests, and the food is not that great but the personnel (e.g. Dailenys was so attentive and always happy to serve us) and location makes up for it. Very safe to walk the streets day or night.

Value for money
We have visited the Palma Real 8 times since 2009. There have been minor changes over the years. Certain bars and restaurants have been operating some years and not other years. The washrooms in the main lobby have been upgraded to a first class standard. The pool deck continues to deteriorate. The lovely grounds are well maintained and seem to be even better cared for lately. We have stayed in all 4 buildings and have always had basic but clean hallways and rooms. The hot water supply has often been hit and miss and safes are not available in all rooms. We have never had anything stolen. The buffet food is plentiful but does become a bit tedious after a few days. The Barbecoa is an option and now the beach bar has an attractive full service restaurant with a varied menu. The "by reservation only" a-la-carte dinners at the Piazza and the International are also a nice change. There are numerous good restaurants off site. We treat the staff with respect and courtesy and have always received the same treatment in return. Unfortunately not all the guests of the Palma are courteous, polite, or caring and this is no fault of the hotel. We love the location of the Palma Real but being in our 70's now, do not always appreciate the noise, smoke and "party central" atmosphere which can be annoying at times. However we can usually find a quiet place on the property to relax and meet new friends when we want to hang around the resort, which is not that often with a world class beach and Varadero main street a short walk away. Being avid cyclists, we always bring 2 used bicycles with us, ride them for the duration of our stay then leave them with two of the locals. For the cost of a decent used bicycle ($0 - $50), and $30 shipping, you can enjoy bike friendly Varadero and the surrounding area in a new way and really make a Cuban's day with the gift of a bicycle - all for a relative pittance by N.A. standards. We highly recommend doing this. In short, we will continue to stay at this familiar home away from home as long as we are able, and to enjoy the many amenities and friendly people of Varadero. Would we recommend this hotel to friends? . . . difficult question. Definitely yes to some, not necessarily to others.

Palm real
So I found staying at the palm Real location to be okay ... I really like the fact I was close to downtown where I got to experience meeting the locals. How they lived . There was couple different clubs that play live music such as the Beatles club 62 and Havana club I found these to be Incredibly entertaining...there are great shops like chocolate Shop The pottery shop and of course to Tobacco shop that was very close to the resort....The beach was two blocks down From my resorts (4 min walk) no one told me when I first arrived that there is a beach house were I could change and get drinks. they didn’t really show me around the place very well I found my room was missing a remote control key that was supposed to be towards my lockbox the AC stopped working the second day. They did offer me to switch rooms but I didn’t like the view or vibe I got from the room they wanted me to change to so I stayed in the i original had ...none of my clothes could dry because of the humidity I found every day was different with my cleaner one day I’d walk in and there’d be a flower with a beautiful towel set up then the next day there would be nothing I found it very hard to have water replaced in my refrigerator every day I’m a non-alcoholic drinker so having the bottles of water was really important for me they never restocked my mini fridge with any beer for people who came over I actually at the end of the stay had to go back and return my beach towels from my room I found that the service at the front desk be bit off The pool area was really great there was a lot of live music the men who hosted the pool Entertainment did a great Job. really know how to get the crowd Engaged and ready to party. I found most of the people staying at palm real Were younger generation from early 20s to late 20s there were a couple kids but not many at all. I was a little disappointed they had no Special dinners that where supposed be to different then normal three meals a day it was Included in my package, they told me they stoped doing the dinnerS that way. I was told to complaints to aircanada or booking agent. The servers for mealtime were absolutely amazing and very accommodating ... front desk bar and cleaner for the room was not the best I found ... I found the Havana Excursion to be great informational but very restrictive to what you actually like got to see and do. I learned a lot about the economy about the government about Cuba itself and its people overall it was a great experience I would rate my overall experience a 6.5 out of 10 For the resort itself But the actual trip all the people I met since I traveled solo was 10/10 I felt pretty self as well !

Absolutely terrible!!!
I have been to this hotel in the past appx 2 years ago, at that time, the hotel was an okay resort being a 3 star..Well OMG this resort is absolutely gone down to s**t!!!..Completely absolutely disgusting!..Mold everywhere, every ceiling was full of it and you could smell the musty smell all throughout, the pool was all broken tiles on the sides where if you tried to get out of it that way you would certainly cut yourself and soo very dirty!!!...sooo many times the keys would never work and you had to walk a mile or more to get new keys for them not to work..The pot holes in the cement were so very dangerous when walking around..there was NEVER EVER ANY toilet paper like NEVER!!!..it was soo incredibly expensive now as the hotel no matter what day it is will always charge you 65 cents to 1 Cdn dolla, where the bank around the corner would be appx 73 cents..careful as bank also ripped us off each for 5.00 in their 1.00 coins!..yes the bank as well and then you can see the security outside the bank exchanging money with no paperwork!!!..yes I did witness all of this, as I said this is not my first time there and I know what's is what!..The food was absolutely disgusting!!..not even Franks Red Hot Sauce I brought with me could help!..There is no bottled water there at all even to buy at the hotel. .they give u 1 bottle that u have to ask for and days later finally get and then when u get it u have to refill at the bar every time where they go into a back room to refill..The Havana Club that is attached to this hotel used to be included is now a 10.00 cover charge plus the drinks are now 3.00 each..remember we already lost 30.00 on the 100.00 so every dollar you spend add another 30 cents..we went out for french fries as the hotel never had any burgers or hotdogs etc and they wanted $5.50 C.U.C!!..for the equivalent of a Wendys medium fries!..the Cuban airport on way back is a total rip off!!..Careful as they will not take C.u.c money, only USD n Cdn and they charge 10 % tax on USD and tax on CDN dollars!!!..Duty Free tried to charge me for 1 bottle of rum @ 9.90 along with a $5.00 tax!!!!..yes they wanted $14.90 for 1 bottle! ..I was shocked!..if u have Cuban $ left you might as well throw in Garbage cause it is useless once you pass security!..Cuba has now turned into a serious joke when it comes down to the money now!!..Don't waste it here and go to a much better resort where they have a disco and entertainment because this place has neither!!..nothing to do when it rains except sit in lobby or your stinky room, the entertainment was none existent, they had their shows which was extremely crappy and did not make sense at all!..The lobby bar that is supposed to be opened 24 gouts had now been closing at 11pm and they tell you to go yo the snack bar which is supposed to be opened at 11 pm..well that did not happened until at least midnight when they had a lineup or ppl stated to fet upset and then they yelled at you to hang on as they were preparing food..there was NO FOOD!!..they had cheese on a bun or ghilled cheese which was 1 piece of ham with a little piece of cheese!..it was absolutely terrible!!!..the beach is across the street which is not at all a far walk and the beach is absolutely breathtaking with white sand but they r doing construction there to build a new 1000 room resort, so the noise is unreal along with the dust and such so its a very dangerous path now to get to the beach part..their is little beach bar that is pretty plain but never any music or activities at all!.. the little shops they have also charge you wayyy more for their trinkets now as they have basically triple their prices and that is even when u bardered..the excursions are way overpriced and you don't even get to do what you paid for!..we were supposed to go snorkeling well that did not happen because they wanted to drop us off to this private beach so they could go do their own stuff..we paid 80.00 Cdn to ride an hour on a bus to go on a boat for 2 hours to sit on a beach for another 2 hours and eat the same shitty food and then to do that all over again on way back!..we saw absolutely nothing new at all!!!..The Beatles Bar was ok with their music but like I said they were charging 3.50 Cuban money for a beer!..same as here in Canada -$5.00!..like I said I have been there before so I do know what Cuba and this hotel and the food used to be like and it is now garbage!!!..Go someplace that will be worth the extra 100.00..I will never return to this place again!..Cuba yes but never to this shitty disgusting hotel!

Great value for the price
We loved our stay at the Allegro Palma Real. I recommend for those who like to walk outside the hotel, since It’s one block from the main strip. The hotel is clean, the food is good even if it’s a little bit redundant. The pool is fair and the beach is amazing. The personnel is very nice. I intened to go back since for the price it’s the best value I ever had.

Mediocre
The location was great 1 minute away from the beach and main downtown attractions. The food was mediocre and often repeated. It was also not replenished often once done during buffet times nor warmed up again. Our room was also just mediocre, the main mirror had a big chunk where it was shattered. We had to look through each corner of it. Maids cleaned our room nicely and were trustworthy. Out of 4 pools only 2 were open, but they were great. Buffet staff wasn’t that nice or attentive but bar staff was great and reception was nice. We had some issues with our room keycard , had to go back 3 times.

Central location downtown Veradero
The location of this place is great; walking distance to a lot of night life. It's a 3-star...so you have been warned :-) 3-4 nights max is recommended at this place. I stayed here a full week once and it was a bit much. Also... I would recommend going during peak season, as opposed to off-season, as they close down a bunch of the amenities for "renovations" in the off-season. The lobby is always a fun place to hang out at night. You never know what type of people you are going to see hah.

Worse resort in all Varadero AVOID
We arrived in Cuba at around 4:00 in the morning to discover that the whole hotel was a total scam. The pools had been emptied out, with the only one remaining having cloudy water and trash at the bottom. The rooms were infested with ants, we had 3 rooms and the AC wasn't working in 1 room, we asked for a king size bed but got two singles pressed together with the springs in the mattress making a squishing sound when we would move. The paint on the wall and cement all around the resort was deteriorated. The breakfast buffet consisted of toasts and a rack of cold eggs. We went to the Sunwing office and explained the situation, after verifying our story, Sunwing immediately sent us to another hotel across the street, the Cuatro Palmas, covering a big part of the difference in price and offering us vouchers for the catamaran trip. Thank you to Sunwing for saving our vacation but I would recommend to anyone to avoid making a deal with TripCentral as they will scam you and send you in misrepresentative hotel. The pictures are NOT the reality. By the way Cuatro Palmas was great, would entirely recommend.

1 star is too high! Worst dump ever!
Outside of hotel looks impressive till u step inside. No elevators in operation. Mold and bug infested rooms. We asked for another room that was even worse, the mold was so bad we couldn't breathe. 1 pool closed, the other is falling apart, as you swim the tiles and paint chips are in the water. Filthy and subpar. We talked to other patrons who didn't have hot water or a toilet that flushed. 1 building is closed down and building 4 should be condemned. Food was beyond disgusting, breads and desserts hard & stale, everything else cold & tasteless. No working locks on the doors and looked like bullet holes in the walls. Glass shards in the pool water from drunk partiers. Mixed drinks were disgusting but if u only drink beer your ok. Lobby closes at 11 and next bar doesn't open till 12. If you want a snack at the side bar better go early because we were told several times nothing left. Beach is supposed to have chicken steak but is actually hard stale rice with a chicken leg. We saw an entire bus leave after 1 day to go to another hotel but this hotel couldnt care less because 2 bus loads checked in right after them. My bf had been to this hotel 4 times before and was shocked at the decline. We complained to our AC rep how bad the mold was and was told it would be at least another $700 ea to change hotels. Even the staff who worked there were embarrassed. Do yourself a favor, spend the extra $$ and don't waste your time with this dump. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. I'm rating this hotel a 1 star but even that is too high.

My 3rd time here recently (Sept 28 to Oct 5 2019. Not much has changed since I was first here 14 years ago. It's a nice resort. Basic rooms. Beds could be a little more comfortable but still adequate. We had a few nice surprises with the food...a couple of our meals were extremely good. always something good to eat...we never went without. Beach is beautiful. Bar and restaurant there are awesome. Staff was nice and helpful. One of the pools is closed. The one with the pool bar. Hotel is downtown so it's very close to restaurants, market and nightlife. All very safe to visit. Definitely recommend this resort if you're looking for a "no frills" vacation.

Worst vacation ever
It was not a good experience. The hotel is in bad condition, rooms are moldy and smelly. The bed sheets were damp and smelly when we arrive. It took 4 hours for them to be changed after complaining to the front desk, by then it was almost midnight. While they did tidy up the rooms everyday, some towels were not fresh, seems like unwashed. The food is not clean, flies everywhere, cockroach in soup, when complained to the cook, he said it was just spice, errrrrrr.

Rooms have bedbugs, and the worst part is it’s steadily going downhill. Nothing gets fixed. It only gets macgivered! Put a bandaid mentality. They recently opened it to the local Cubans and it’s not a resort you want to be at while they are there. They drank all the alcohol at the swim up bar daily and you never see them leave to go for a piss to the washroom. You best your ass they pissed in the swimming pools! For people with experience with 3* cuban hotels
Been at hotel Palma Real from 21 to 28th May 2019. I only gave a 2 stars even though I am an experienced cuban traveler and have used casas particular, 2-3 stars as well as 5 stars hotels and have stayed at Palma Real many times. This particular time, I arrived during the cuban's vacation time. Unfortunatlly for us tourists, it often means, very loud guests, empty buffets, shortage of about everything on the site (bottled water in rooms, choice of drinks, closed restaurants due to lack of food) poor service and rooms that greatly need clean ups in general. If this is your first time vacationing in Cuba and are looking for the beautiful pictures we see in magazines, I suggest you take another hotel. If you are a seasoned cuban traveler, don't mind basic outfits, going out to eat a few times in town and get a really good deal (less than 650$) this could be for you. *** At this time of the year, book the special restaurants on weekends (advised by the hotel staff), because boatloads of cuban buses arrive daily from friday to monday. Don't get me wrong, I love cubains, but I did save all year for one week of relaxation by the beach. I would appreciate to have more than rice to eat. If it was not for the swarm of cubans invading the buffet, and the basics missing, I would give it a 3 to 4 stars, because of the great pools, and the location (close to calle 62, walking distance to the markets, restaurants and clubs. Otherwise, I had fun like I always do, with other tourists and cubans alike. Must mentionned Canadians were outnumbered by Cubans and Russians, witch made it a bit sad on the beach with cuban and russian music competing on who would be the loudest. PS: Also warning about the shops inside (and I guess outside too) the hotel. They rip off every foreign guests by charging a fortune for anything. 5$ chip, 3$ coka-cola. Here is a tip: REQUEST and INSIST that they use the bar code gun. This one doesn't lie. The price will be exact. If they start punching a hole bunch of number on the cash... it's just to rob you blind. I saved 3 guests 22$ overcharge on just 3 chips and 3 cokes just by telling the cashier to start again with the gun. Sad but true. 2nd PS: Other Canadian Travelers from upscale resort faced the same problems with food and cuban guests. Sadly, many on our plain back home mentioned that they would not come back to cuba for their future vacations because of that. A least we had amazing weather all week long.

You get what you pay for
We got a good last minute deal on this resort and with that had little expectations. Rooms: AC worked well in our room - the majority of the time the water was cold - we were told we would be provided with a new water bottle each day, but this never happened Pools: The pools always had garbage in it and a lot of the tile needs to be redone. Food: Food is bland and not much variety. However, they offer two al a carte. The Cuban one was not bad, but still not much selection. The Italian one was good. I really enjoyed my pizza there. Staff: Staff were nice enough - there were a couple who stood out like the pool bartender was awesome. Location: I was a little sceptical about having to walk across the street to go to the beach, but this was not an issue at all. The beach is the biggest perk of this place, as it was beautiful and not too crowded. The location is also close to a bank, some markets, and some good restaurants/bars.

Honest Review!!
Wanted to share a little bit about our experience at the Allegro Palma Real in Varadero Cuba. First let me start by saying that we have visited Varadero numerous times and it is our favorite vacation spot. We have stayed at 3, 4 and 5 star resorts in Varadero. We have always enjoyed being close to downtown Varadero so we decided on the Allegro Palma Real for vacation this year. This was our 2nd visit to this resort and our previous stay was quite enjoyable. This time our stay was 10 days as opposed to our usual 7 day all inclusive. During our first visit we knew it wasn’t a high end resort however we enjoy being within walking distance to downtown Varadero, so we took the chance again to visit the resort…WOW. Upon arrival we were quickly checked in and got a poolside room on the 3rd floor however we requested to be on the 2nd floor. This was resolved within an hour and we were moved to the 2nd floor poolview without issue. The room was as expected basic, clean and a large balcony. Being in a 3rd world country numerous times of course we anticipate bugs, flies, ants etc…and come well prepared with afterbite, bug spray and benedryl. However after 3-4 days the mosquitos were so unbearable in our room we had to wear long sleeve shirts and pyjamas pants to bed everynight to minimize the mosquito bites(holy hell). We literally spent an hour every evening killing mosquitos and spraying bug spray over the bed linen, door frames, windows and ourselves and still got bit. We spoke to a few other Canadians staying at the resort and they also had the same issue and had never seen it so bad either. The biggest disappointment came 4-5 days before our departure. The resort became available to all local residents and therefore the hotel became more than overwhelming in a very short period of time with individual family sizes of 2-10 overtaking the resort. Because of this the buffet for all meals was inaccessible. The locals literally bullied other resort guests we were not able to get into the buffet for 2 ½ days and if you did manage to get in after lining up for the buffet it was cleaned out. Along with not being able to visit the buffet for our meals there were large groups of local people in the pool at the swim up bar anywhere from 4-6 hours at a time without leaving the pool (gross…we all know what happens when consuming alcohol). Also to note it seems that the locals that visit this resort feel that they all need to outdo each other with wireless speaker boomboxes including the entertainment staffs music and games. We do split our time between the pool and beach however after a day of trying to get food and drinks we spent our remaining time there at the beach and at local restaurants. Considering these are local residents the disrespect for a local property was a real shame and unbelievable. I don’t think I have ever seen people disrespect other’s property in terms of disposing of trash (cigarette butts, bottles, glasses), not to mention one’s personal space. Also to note numerous resort staff actually asked us and other resort guests how we were doing once the locals vacated the resort. Clearly they understood how unbearable it was. Cuba is a beautiful country and we will visit again however this resort is a no fly zone for us. We did visit a couple other resorts while there for our future visits. Please feel free to reach out if need an honest opinion. The review is asking for star ratings i will rate the stars based on the last 4-5 days of stay.

This is my 7th year returning to Palma real ! I love the location of the resort . They are slowly working on upgrades and doing a fantastic job( lobby bathrooms are amazing compared to before ) . The rooms could use a little work but they will get there ! I return every year for the location ! The food was great I didn’t starve . I wish the lobby bar was open past 11pm and that the snack bar had French fries .Service from everyone at the resort was amazing . All & all a great trip !

Interesting
This was my third stay at the Palma Real. I have been to Cuba many times and don’t expect nor go looking for anything extravagant and welcome simplicity. I don’t mind this hotel for its location as it’s close to many amenities. The walk to the beach is not too far and it’s beach bar is pleasant and offers the drinks I wanted. The snack area there is also very nice. Probably the nicest bartenders and servers from the whole hotel were at the beach and snack bar. Unfortunately, the food at the beach was not great. Although is free to the hotel guests, the bread/buns were so stale that it wasn’t edible. The rooms are aging but quite comfortable if you were lucky enough to have the air conditioning working properly. The rooms have refrigerators but again, you’re lucky if they actually work. The grounds are very well maintained and workers are out there every day attempting to keep it clean and tidy. The staff are quite helpful and pleasant. The food was good and plentiful unless droves of locals came to stay for a few days (which is their right because it is their country) but then there was slim pickings left for anyone else and lineups to get into the dining room. Garbage just tossed onto the ground and in the pools rather than into the trash which was readily available. Some are very bold/rude when there are lineups at the bar. Many times they were served before anyone else because they pushed through people. Very little manners or respect for others staying at the hotel. After three straight days of that, I was a bit fed up but then they left and things were back to normal. In saying that, not only locals were rude. Other groups of tourists staying at the hotel were beyond obnoxious. These people were also pushy and had no regard for anyone else. Blasting their music in the lobby for everyone else to suffer through. I don’t go to Cuba to listen to Russian Techno or French Canadian whatever it was but sure had enough of it by the time I left. Nobody could sit and have conversation over a drink at night because of other tourists and their behaviour. Glad they were having a great time but for everyone else it was over kill. None of that was fault of the hotel though. My biggest complaint when it comes to the hotel itself would be the terrible condition of one of the pools. Filthy and dirty. Literally falling apart. Mouldy and just plain gross. The hotel needs to fix this pool or shut it down because it’s a safety hazard! Would like to return to the hotel again sometime in the future but at this point I’m not too sure. All in all, I really liked my stays there including the staff but after this time I’m not sure if I will chance returning in the future. ðŸ™

We love Palma Real!
This year was our 4th time to Palma Real. It was great to see returning guests we'd met over the years and awesome to see the employees of the resort. The easiest way to give an accurate review, is to say, 'you get what you pay for'... it's fantastic for us, works with our budget and we definitely love Varadero. It's dated, the food is okay, the bar drink choices are limited and the rooms are satisfactory...but for our family, it's what we can afford. It's walking distance to fantastic entertainment and the markets and the ocean is a two minute walk. The best thing about the resort is the staff, they're awesome

Party resort for sure from morning to morning. It never ends. Not a family resort. Stop bringing kids. Specially in the swim up bar. Im still gonna smoke, swear and drink and be as wild as i want. Sucks for your kids to see but get the OUT of the ADULT pool. 🙃 Their is a kids pool for a reason. we had a lot of cubans staying same time of us which was pretty annoying cause they get all the attention. The staff are amazing and make you feel just at home. They always remember me. The drinks are strong and tasty but repetitive. The beach is only 5 min walk and is perfect. All white sand and clear blue water. Was quite a few chairs when i was there mid april. Beach is huge, you always get your own spot. Food sucks completely but thats not what i go for. Except the fruits are good. I brought a bag out sauces like ketchup, peanut butter, honey garlic. It all helps a lot. Walking distance to everything cause you're right in town. This was my 6th trip to this resort and im only 20, i go for a good time and big party. My only complaint was all the kids and food. Definitely recommend to come here for a cheap good party.

The good and bad
The grounds were well kept the beach was amazing. The entertainment crew were fun the maids in building 2 were great. The children should NOT be in the pool with the swim up bar. I do not enjoy drinking with children. There are 3 other pools they can have fun and splash in who wants to party with their babies? It should have an age limit.

Stayed at this resort 5 times. Grounds are beautiful. Beach is incredibly beautiful. Food is awful, same thing served all week. Dishes are filthy dirty. Staff is so so The swim up bar should be adult only !!!! Kids using seats for diving boards while splashing pool water in your drinks.... PARENTS TAKE YOUR KIDS TO THE KIDS POOL !!!!!!!! A lot of locals stay there.. Staff cater to them first... Pay the extra and stay somewheres else ..

My 2nd home
We just spent the week of 13-20 at the palama, we absolutely love it here. The staff acknowledged us and know who we are, our rooms in building 2 fantastic! Entertainment team, swim up bar team even security amazing. The food wasnt good at all ate off resort alot which we didnt like. The swimup bar needs to be kid free it serves alchohol and too many kids splashing and shouldnt be in that pool. We didnt like that the Cubans staying on the resort butted infront of us or we would all be standing waiting for the pork/beef to cook and one would walk up the cook gave them the entire plate full leaving us to wait in line longer. There was barely plates clean or food even my friend was helping clean tables a few times. The staff always made us feel welcome and brought us flowers and even had a table ready for us everyday! We will be back we love the palama just need some Canadian choices please. Love the Canada squad xoxo

Location is key!
I was very pleased with this resort. When I arrived, I was greeted with a smile and was able to get access to my room right away (got the at 11 am). The rooms are a good size. There were minimal food options, but when in Cuba!! It is only about a 5 minute walk from the Beatles bar which is exactly what I wanted.

Reasonably Decent for Cuba Standards
The grounds/gardens were lovely and maintained]\ The grounds, gardens, public areas were good, maintained. A little bit of a walk to the beach but I was fine with that as the beach was beautiful with the unfortunate exception of tourist littering despite plenty of garbage receptacles available. Room was okay for Cuba as I had to be reminded of that, very old and would have liked maid service to be of better quality. Disappointed that although there was a coffee machine in the room, there was no coffee. Dining was reasonable, managed to find enough to eat despite food allergies, kind of lacked variety from day to day. I would have preferred a commercial toaster as I had brought my own bread which needs to be toasted, so I was disappointed and surprised about that as they offered a variety of fresh breads/buns. Hospitality/service staff were great, friendly, accommodating, they even replaced my room fridge with one that worked which was needed due to food allergies. Parks, restaurants, bars, entertainment, shopping, etc all within walking distance.

If the price is right
We arrived late at night and our room had no lights. We were told there were no rooms available until the next day and to come back then at 2pm. When we did it took nearly 1.5 hours to straighten everything out. Slightly frustrating at the time. Once that minor inconvenience was taken care of, I had no significant complaints for the rest of the week. The resort is a little run down, but our rooms were cleaned everyday and the air conditioner worked well (but our safe did not at all). Our house keeper was lovely. The bartender Tactica at the pool bar is adorable and super friendly! The food is kind of "stereotypical" of what you hear about Cuba but by no means did we starve for the week. The location was great. Very close to downtown bars, restaurants and markets and the beach was very nice. If you want extravagance this is not the place for you. If you want a decent enough room, a good beach to swim, to walk outside the resort, cold drinks and nice people - you'll do just fine. High maintenance folks will likely not be happy.

Dear Vicky it was the worst resurt that I have ever seen. Once we arrived no attention lobby in a very poor shape. No indication that we asked to go in our room. Once we did find it it was a dump dirty baseboard eating by bugs the safe didn’t work the door in bathroom would not close and no light in bathroom. Got bug bight. Visited 2 other rooms after the same disaster not one secure safe to put our passport and money. My hubby very hangry and also myself so disappointed. Met with Sunwing agent that was on our time sheet the next day. I was crying just wanted to come home but she did find us a better resort that cost us 20 pesos for the taxi and more then400.00 for a nice resort. I do not mind paying but Vicky told us it was nice. Lots of bed bugs. For the snack they opened at 10pm hot dog and hamburger we were hungry I took a hamburger and the meat was not cooked. The worst experience of our 7 trips to Cuba. The next day taxi and Memories here we come ouf. We did manage to relaxe

Worst resort of my life
Where to begin... Bedroom: no storage space for your clothes; they don't have enough towels in the hotel so we had to share 1 towel for 3 people for the week, refused to change the linens when my son vomited because their washer was broken, all the elevators are broken yet reception refuses to have someone help you carry your luggage... Pool is broken everywhere, alguae in there... Buffet has very limited choices, no fruits... Some of the waiters refused to fill the water bottle. Not at all beach front, like they said - you have to cross 3 avenidas to get there. Beach guy refused to help us get a lounge chair. Beach is dirty with plastic glasses, bottles, etc everywhere - clearly not cleaned. Waiters in the hotel bars prefer to serve the staff (ie cleaning lady and animation staff) before taking your order. The animation isn't too bad, but they have nothing for the kids, no games, no mini disco. The only fun stuff was the aquatic ballet show.

Bad resort
Should have taken into account these poor only reviews before booking...We chose it because it was the cheaêst 3* at that time. Should be 1* hotel. Not worth. Never been in such a lousy hotel since I started to go to Cuba 20 years ago. Does not represent Cuban Turism or Cuba.I usually tip but this time not even once. Grounds: sad, mostly concrete. When raining: super slipery. Someone bleeded and it took them forever to remove the blood on the tiles so gross and lazy employees. Public area: not fun just one loby, full of people smoking like hell even when you see the no smokin sign. Not enough space for such a big hotel Bedroom: ugly really stains everywhere missing piece of furniture and small!! Though bedroom was clean and no cucarachas or insects. One poor light for the whole bedroom and in order to have air condition I discovered we have to use the breaker No option for A/C just super col or no AC. After complaining a lot they supply a functional fridge. Only one bottle of water for the whole week for 2 people!!! You have to buy them at the depanneur inside the hotel Service: low quality, the maid for our bedroom was kind of rud and needless. So we asked her to stop coming in our room which was not a big deal since she was just placing our bed. Tip : bring your own bathroom towels they only give 2 tiny ones per bedroom!!! Beach: could add some palapas not enough. Really hard to relax when you are surrounded by russian music drunk russians and smokin like hell Food: cuba's quality so no surprise. But I really did not like when cuban were fighting and grabing food at the buffet as if there was a war. Healthy but poorly educated and arrogant for sure. Solution: to go out to some restaurants outside the resort plenty of choice. Snack bar was running out of lunch food at 12h30!!!...Only one little coffee machine at one lobby bar. Anyway will not go back there, neither to Varadero.

Get what you pay for
We weren’t quite expecting what we got when deciding to stay at Allegro Palma Real. Walking into the loud, smoky lobby at 11pm after our flight was a little shocking, and being brought to a room that had 2 double beds pushed together and cracks in the walls we decided to give it a few days before losing our cool. The next morning at breakfast Osiris and Iedy at the back of the buffet restaurant made it so much better! They were so kind and friendly to both my sister and I that it made us forget that we had been quite disappointed with the resort so far. We of course returned to their section every breakfast and lunch from then on! The pool was also quite good; a few rough patches around the outside that could be mended, but overall well kept and the entertainment each afternoon paired with the swim up bar made for a pretty good experience. Although the beach was across the street (about a 5 minute walk) it was definitely worth it! So beautiful! And the snack bar had decent food & drinks as well if we didn’t feel like trekking all the way back to the resort. The location near downtown Varadero was also convenient to check out different markets and restaurants when we got sick of the resort food (the fondue place was quite good!). We also went to the Italian a la carte on the resort twice, but wouldn’t recommend it - I wasn’t sure what exactly was in my lasagna and the pizzas were made on pitas. Not quite what we were hoping for since the food at the buffet wasn’t wonderful either. The nightly entertainment was quite good as well, though I don’t have much to compare it to! Overall, despite the mediocre food and the not-so-great room, Allegro Palma Real was an okay resort, that I’d be fine with returning to if travelling on a budget again in the future.

Ok resort
We booked so last minute ( 1 1/2 weeks prior to our trip) as we didn’t want to spend too much money. Well, you definitely get what you paid for in Cuba with this 3.5 star resort. It was a prime location and friendly staff. However, rooms were absolutely awful, the only plus side is that we barely spent any time in our rooms (holes in walls, broken AC, broken balcony lock, dirty looking). The food was very mediocre, to be expected as you’re traveling Cuba. They also don’t play any sort of pool game or have any kind of daytime entertainment.Wouldn’t recommend this resort, spend the extra couple hundred for a better quality!

Great value for the price
We have been coming to the Palma Real since 2009 and outside of a few inconveniences have always felt comfortable there, the staff polite and helpful, and the proximity to Varadero main drag excellent. Our rooms although well used were clean and bright. The noise and smoke in the main lobby is often overwhelming when the place is fully booked but that problem lies with the lifestyles and behaviour of the guests, not the hotel. The bars in the two alternate lobbies, The Daiquiri and the Black and White, offer a pleasant quieter environment but their hours of operation were too limited. The food quantity and variety in the main dining room was always adequate, however the alternate snack facility, the barbacoa , which we love to use, was too inconsistent in selection and hours. The pre booked a-la-carte restaurants are a pleasant alternative. The five minute walk to the world class Varadero beach is no problem and the beach bar a nice touch but the rugged hazardous goat trail leading from the end of the paved road down to the sand is absolutely terrible. It has been this way for all ten years we have been coming and would take so little effort to upgrade. Come on Guys ! Overall, I would recommend the Palma Real as great value for the price and certainly will stay there again when we return to our beloved Varadero.

Not that great
The hotel is old and run down. The rooms were clean but smelt musty. The grounds were nothing special and the Quiet pool had green moss growing on the bottom. It's a place where the Cuban's that have moved away come to visit and spend time with family and friends. It was packed and if you were not Cuban you did not get very good service at the buffet or bar. Beach was beautiful but not enough chairs. I wanted to change resorts but could never find my Air Canada Rep, he was their a 1/2 hour a day but I could never seem to locate him. The location of the resort to down town is great, you can walk all over the place. I would Not Recommend this place.

Very low quality
I went for my birthday, it was not what I expected. I had never been to Cuba so I was told that the standards are a little lower than North America, but this was way worse than I had expected. It was pretty much the cheapest thing that we could find, so I think in retrospect, spending a few couple hundred dollars more to be in better comfort would have made a lot more sense. There was mould on the walls, the beds were extremely uncomfortable, the Decour was very 70s . From that experience, I don’t I will ever go back to Cuba again. The people were very nice, the workers were always very kind and always happy to help.

Horrible!
I really don’t have anything good to say about this resort. The first room I got was in building #2 and the hallway ceilings are covered in black mould. In fact the entire place is covered in mold. The safe didn’t even have a door on it. Half the lights in the room don’t work and the beds are as old. Once all 6 of us weren’t happy with our rooms we all got upgraded to suits in building #1. These rooms were better although still no working safe and the room was dirty. The maid really didn’t do much. There were still socks from a previous traveler under the bed. The bathroom never got cleaned. She replaced my towels for 2 small hand towels and that’s what I had to shower with for the remainder of the week. The fridge was never stocked with anything. The resort itself just looks worn down. Tiles are cracked or missing and door frames are all cracked and prevent doors from opening all the way. Snack bar was lame, the buffet was plain nothing special.

Amazing resort!!
It was my first time in Cuba and all I've gotta say is that it was legendary. Resort was really amazing, it had 24/7 snack bar (closes when lunch or dinner buffet is open) more than 5 bars (including 1 on beach). Palma Real also had different kind of shows arranged every night such as Cuban Show, romantic show, Aqua Ballet and more and Most importantly 'Havana Club', opens every night 2300-0300. I found it better than the local clubs as La Comprasita and La Mamba. I'd say rooms were about average. Our TV did not worked but i wasn't there for TV lol so that didn't matter to me at all. Overall, if i'd ever get a chance to visit Varadero again, i'll be staying in this resort.

Solid place to stay!
We went on our trip Jan. 2019, we had low expectations, just from reading other reviews, but we got a good deal so took the chance! I loved the location, we could easily walk downtown etc. The beach access was awesome, with the bathroom/ bar/ snack shack right there. I’ve never seen beaches that beautiful before, they were well taken care of too. There was always someone picking up trash/ cleaning and there was always a life guard or security guard at night. The bars: always friendly service, I don’t drink a lot so had to request some “lighter†drinks. Only downside was they never had all the stuff to make the drinks they had on the drink list. Restaurants/ food: I am a super picky eater and I never went hungry. They had amazing fresh buns at every meal. We went with very low expectations of the food. We did take our own salt and pepper and I seen another couple with hot sauce they brought! Easy things that made it more enjoyable! Only downside was if you ordered a snack at night or the beach you would often get “ sorry we are out of thatâ€... we also ate off resort a bit and really enjoyed everything we had! Hotel/ rooms: it is definitely dated, the elevator didn’t work ( I knew this before booking and we were on the third floor so it was fine). The room was fine, nothing amazing but we only slept there so we didn’t really care. The door locked and we didn’t have anything go missing or any problems. Only downside was sometime they would take the dirty towels and now leave clean ones, so we just used our “pool†towels, really no biggie! Staff: I took a huge suitcase of gifts, and handed them out to everyone from the front desk ladies, servers, room keepers and bar tenders. They have a hard time buying “stuff†so this is often more appreciated then money. We got amazing service our hole stay. I believe in tipping with some cash too and I have found this ensures awesome service. Pools: the water was super cold and we spend more time in the ocean. Entertainment: we enjoyed shows most nights, something to do! We also took cards and dice and spent time in the lobby in the evening drinking and playing games. Safety: I love Cuba, this was our first time and I felt so safe the entire time. We are bringing our kids back next year! ( we have been to Mexico a few times and Jamaica, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable taking my small children to those places if we planned on leaving the resort) we like to go explore and I felt so safe doing that in Cuba, we would wondering around the beach and downtown, all the locals were friendly and I felt 100% safe. At the hotel there was security at the beach at night, always someone at the front doors and again I felt 100% safe our entire stay. We plan to come back at stay at this resort next winter and bring our kids! We are already counting down the days!

Great resort
The hotel grounds, public areas. As well as the pools were great. I still can't believe how good the food was. Fish, chicken, shrimp, and the snack bar even had fries. The hotel staff was very friendly. Hotel has a great location as it is right downtown. However watch out for people who aren't very social. That could seriously effect how much fun you have. But that isn't the fault of the hotel. It is just the luck of the draw, when considering who stays at the hotel the same time you do.

The worst resort
We came back on Jan 18 and never been so happy to be back. It was the worst experience ever! Through out our stay at this resort, we kept being woken up from drunk people banging on the walls and door of our room and this did not happen just to us but to everyone staying in the resort. The Lobby was constantly full of drunk people and was not quiet at all. We went on vacation to relax but instead we were scared when night came because of drunk people and when we called security, no action was taken and the security did not care at all. 2nd- our towels and bed sheets were never changed in 7 days of staying there and we were not provided with a drinkable bottle of water until the 3rd day. The new staff at the resort were extremely rude. The check in for this resort is at 4pm and we arrived at 9am so the entire day was wasted and the staff was not helpful at all. The food in this resort was very good however, the resort was turned into a party resort. This is not our 1st stay at this resort and this time, was the worst stay.

You get what you pay for?
If you are expecting a swanky room and a ton of nice amenities and good food... you should probably spend the money and get a 5 star. Because you will be at the front desk complaining about everything lol If you are going to party your butt off and drink yourself until you pickle your liver while not caring about sleeping in sub par living quarters... then you will have a blast. Eat off the resort though. It’s right in town Beatles bar is dope and it’s a pretty safe spot. If you are a “can I speak to the manager†type person... find another place

The worst resort/hotel I've seen.
The grounds were good. Hotel lobby and pool area had a nice vibe to them but the rooms and food were horrible. We stayed 1 night and paid $535 extra to move next door for the last 6 nights. That hotel was very good!

Had a blast
I loved this place. Great people great location. Lots to do everyday and amazing helpful staff. I’d stay again. They are updating areas of the resort so if you get a room that hasn’t been updated you can ask to move. They are very accommodating

Unsatisfied :(
To the manager and owner of Allegro Palma Real resort, As my friend and I were online looking for good deals for vacations in Cuba, we happened to choose yours thinking it was a nice resort for a fair price. After spending $600 for a week stay at your resort, I have to say it was anything less than satisfactory. For starters, my friend and I had to deal with a room that was practically falling apart. The door would barely open and close, lamps were burnt out and not replaced, plus a broken shower that had no hot water all week. After asking several times for it to be fixed, the problem was never solved. Then on top of all this, there were bed bugs. I am now covered head to toe in multiple bed bug bites that are red, swollen, and immensely itchy. The food was absolutely terrible, and I am embarrassed that such a low quality of food would be served to people. Me and my friend got very sick anytime we ate at the buffet or A La Carte’s. This forced us to go spend more money in town just to get a decent meal. Lets not forget that we are exchanging Canadian money for CUC – so we are already losing money on the exchange as well. Most of the bathrooms were under renovations during our stay, to the point where the female bathroom on the main floor became a co-ed bathroom. There was rarely any toilet paper, and the bathrooms were not maintained at all. Not only did we ask your staff several times to accommodate by at least replacing the burnt-out light, no one seemed to care about our wellbeing and satisfaction whatsoever. Arriving home late Wednesday night (December 12, 2018), the bed bug bites had become increasingly more inflamed and itchy. I now have to go to extreme measures at home to make sure the bed bugs don’t spread in my own home. I have pictures to prove the bed bug bites and will be seeing my doctor as well. I hope I am making myself perfectly clear, I certainly did not pay all of this money to experience a vacation like this one. Never have I wanted to leave a resort more in my life. The only good part of this resort was the beach, which ironically wasn't even near the resort. Coincidence? I am never one to complain but I have to stress my true disappointment in my stay here and would appreciate a refund for the inconvenience. I will never be back to this resort, and you should consider closing it down until all problems are fixed and you can provide your guests with a higher standard of service, accommodation, and respect.

Great people.
My 4th time to this resort only because of the location to town the people that work here and the finally finished renovation to the swim up pool and disco. The beach is amazing but a short walk to get to. Another improvement was the restaurant at the beach for use of the hotel patrons

Good resort, walking distance to the city
Hotel rooms are very nice and clean, food is not much selection, pools are great, many people come back here multiple times, beach is just across the street and very nice. The best thing about this resort is that it’s walking distance to any bar or shopping. The most negative experience was when the resort run out of beer for two days.

Worst hotel I've been to. We will Never return.
Many problems...It took us 3 days to get a room not on the ground level. Eventhough it was only 25% booked. First room had black mold so bad that a large part of the ceiling in various areas was falling apart. No warm let alone hot showers. No shower curtain and couldn't get an extra towel for the water on the floor. Could not lock patio door. Fridge, air conditioner did not work. Only light in bathroom. No lightbulbs available in the entire hotel for the bedside lights and the main light. Toilet paper was very difficult to get from maids...had to take from the lobby bathrooms. A Huge cockroach in our room. And we keep our room very clean. The second room had all the same problems (including the cockroach). Then we had a leak from the ceiling vent that thank God I noticed before it soaked our luggage and everything in it! Then one leak from one corner of the vent turned into 3 leaks from 3 out of the 4 corners. The food was disgusting! And we are very accustomed to Cuban food. But this was horrible! And the one and only time (9th time to Cuba) that the food or drinks made my husband and I sick. When we stopped eating from the hotel completely our stomach's returned to normal. The dining room staff were great, accommodating and sweet. The a la cartes were horrible too! The drinks were awful. Only one bartender made a good pina colada...And the bar only had mint for Mojitos 3 days out of 14. Also the main lobby bar closes at 11pm and you had to go to the Havana club after that to get a drink. Which was full of Very young, immature, disrespectful people. Men slapping women, throwing drinks in faces, having sex in the bathrooms, etc. So once again we had to go off resort for drinks also...waste of "all inclusive". And we witnessed on our first night 5 "men" standing in a row at the edge of the pool openingly urinating into the pool. And many other activities in the pool other than swimming. Thank God we seen that before we used the pools...of course we didn't use the pools during our 2 week vacation...a lot of garbage and patio chairs in the pool every morning. Very little lighting throughout the resort (around pools, walking areas and hallways at night. Dangerous with all the uneven and broken pavement, steps ect. I guess Palma Real can't get light bulbs. Also security around the hotel was nonexistent. We faced the autopista (the inlet canal) and we sat on our balcony a lot (our light out there also did not work...Lol) and did not see one security guard do any security rounds that are supposed to be done minimum once an hour. We saw one man who looked like security once. But he did not see us (it was dark...) and he went below us to the main floor patio doors. Not sure what he was doing but he didn't seem to be acting like security...seemed to be checking if patio doors were locked. There were more problems with this hotel to even remember everything. We met other guests that had been going there for more than 10 years, 3-4 times/year and they all said eventhough they had long relationships with most of the staff, they too would not be returning. We went here 2 years ago and the decline in everything was shocking. If you want to eat, drink, shower, enjoy the pool and other all inclusive activities do not go to Palma Real. If we were forewarned of even half of the problems we would have booked at another hotel.

GHETTO PARTY HAVEN
This place is perfect for partying. That's about it. If you're in the mood for loud music from 9am until 6am this is the place! You can't get rest here. You can only drink until your liver fails and breathe in the sweet smell of mold in your room. Make sure to remember to bring your own queen bedsheet and towel so you don't have to sleep and wash in bloodstained linens!! Good party though so make sure you don't drink for a month so you don't die!!!!

Huge disappointment
My first time in Cuba, and i wish i had all good things to say but i don't . Rooms - very rundown, lot of water damage, smelled like mold, a/c only worked half the time, my door frame was lose and i felt like someone could easily break in, but they were clean at least. Resort itself, hallways were in bad shape, smelled like mold, swim up bar/pool was closed, which was a major disappointment as that is my fav place to be, the pool area needed severe renos, the cement/patio area was cracked and moldy, the soda at the bars was flat all week as well. The staff was very polite and really nice, my fav part was the Disco, loved it, we went every nite it was open, unfortunately is was CLOSED for several nites we were there, which was very frustrating. Food was pretty bad, i had no choice but to eat pasta and bread all week or go off the resort for some amazing meals. Alot of disappointments , but we still managed to have a great time, because we went off the resort every day as it's right downtown. that was my only savior ! Unless there are major renos, i would not go back to this resort.

Best location!!
Went for a birthday party. Location was amazing. Only a 2 min walk to the beach (with private bar and snacks included) and the popular bars of Beatles and Cale 62. The resort itself is very old, dated, and lots of mold. We went in October to resort restaurants and swim up bar were closed. Luckily great food in town for good prices. I probably wouldn’t go back to this resort but if you are just there to sleep you would enjoy it.

Wasn’t what I was expecting
Hotel was run down, stunk like mould. The pool that was open was falling apart and dirt. The swim up pool Bar was closed and water was drained. Buffet barely had any food in it. Resort was quiet and ran out of a lot of their booze and pop, juice etc. I wasn’t very happy at all.

Beautiful beach!
The main attraction for me was to swim up bar but unfortunately it was closed the pool was drained the hotel rooms were very weatherbeaten run down but clean the staff were amazing friendly and helpful. the dining hall presented very nice but the food was cold and not a very good selection. the hotel is close to town Which was nice! We could walk in and have dinner at a restaurant go to a nightclub check out fleamarket’s or just ride the tour bus for the whole day for five pesos! It did rain but it was over very quick and the sun dried it up immediately! overall, Varadero is beautiful! I will go back but try a different hotel

Great location but low quality resort
I went here in August, of course it was hot because that time of year. We were 1 of two groups of Canadians, there was a few from Europe and the rest were locals on vacation. I found that the room was dated, had mold spots and the bathroom door did not close all the way. Also the patio door did not lock which made me nervous on my stay because anyone could enter our room. The positive about the room as that they had working AC and a mini fridge. The maid was lovely, she didn’t speak English but we made due in trying to communicate. The bar staff were not friendly at first, they would serve the Cubans before us even though we were ahead of them in line; we got a lot of eye rolling whenever we ordered. By the middle of the week we tipped all of the bar staff and then they were lovely and served us when it was our turn (funny how that worked out) and the front desk staff were helpful and friendly from day one. Buffet was horrific, nothing was edible except the white rice and if you were lucky the chicken. We ate off resort a lot so we could have a decent meal and not starve. The resort did have wifi at the lobby but we cut off every 2 minutes or so. The beach is down the street and it doesn’t take much time to get there; they have a restaurant at the beach which was lovely and staff were friendly. The swim up bar pool was closed down so there was only one pool which was obviously packed and had no type of shade, so you can get relief from heat but you will burn in the sun exposure. I will definitely not come back to this resort because honestly there are better out there for the money, the location is the only thing going for this place. My suggestion is finding a higher star and all of Varadero you can get the hop on and hop off bus for 5CUC for the day and can take you wherever you want to go so location won’t be a limitation.

Disappointed!
Every year we always go to Palma Real and this time we were there from July 6 to the 13. What a disappointment!!! We arrived there at 10:30am and our room was not ready until 5pm. We were on the 5th floor and the elevator was broken. There was no running water for 3 days out of 7 we were there. The food was alright, used to be much better!!! Since the new management took over, a lot has changed and not for good. Definately not worth my money.

This was my very first all inclusive stay. My expectations were low as I had read many bad reviews about the palma real. I was blown away by just about everything. The people real made it for me loved all the staff and other visitors from far and wide. Everyone seemed to be there for the same reason to have a good time and we did!!!!!!!! Thanks for the memorable vacation until next time.

Average Resort
The staff were very nice. The food was surprisingly good. There was a good variety to choose from. We were contacted concerning which area we would want our room to be by, the quiet pool or the active pool area. We requested the quiet pool area. We were not told that there is a club on the resort that opens at 11pm until 3am, which was directly across from our room. We were not looking for quiet during the day, we were more concerned for the night. The doors to the rooms need to be slammed shut in order to be closed properly. If you want rest and relaxation, this is not the resort to go to. The noise factor was the worst that we have ever experienced at night, almost all night. Not much rest. The pools were not clean and had green fungus all around. I wouldn't go into the pool. There was a lot of missing pieces of ceramic in the pool also. I was told that they were working to improve the resort. There is a long way to go before I will ever think about going back.
