I should have gone with very low expectations. Food was low quality and minimal variety. Room did not have hot water or all the toiletries. Room was cold with no heat. Internet was unreliable. Ants and spiders were crawling everywhere.??

Chose the resort primarily for the sport activities, proximity to the beach and swimming pools. Exceeded my own and my family's expectations. While there is a nice basketball court, were no basketball hoops - we donated our basketball to the personnel. Played tennis and table tennis instead. Take your own sports gear if you enjoy sports. The beach was amazing, kept clean during our stay. Swimming pools steps from the ocean, showers and towel service available. Any issues or extra requests with your room, they will go beyond and above to fix it or make it good for you. Had modest expectations for food reading all the reviews - yet the food was decent with plenty of choices - exceeded my expectations.

We had an amazing experience at the royal service at the Paradisus hotel. The room is a bit dated however the whirlpool tub outdoor Bali shower and the enormous king bed totally blew me away! The bed totally comfortable and the pillows as well We did experience a few hiccups however as the rain flooded part of our bathroom as well as our sitting area couple of times. Our maids were absolutely wonderful!! Taking care of every detail and making beautiful designs on our bed adorn with fresh flowers daily! Our room was well kept the extra attention was extraordinary!!! Our restaurant was the best place to eat in the whole resort! we soon realized it was the best option available and so we decided to eat there and only there for the rest of our stay . The staff, Viviana Gabriella Laura and many others gave us exceptional service every time ! Always a smile laughing and engaging with the guests so much so they soon felt like family !! Our butlers Oswaldo and Alex always making sure our every desire was met to the best of their ability!!! Alex even brought some supplies from his home to try and stop the rain from entering our bathroom and attempted to repair it himself!! We were offered a room change however we realized other guests were experiencing similar issues and since we only had 2 days left we decided to keep our room which had a phenomenal view of the ocean !!! Our pool area was very tranquil at the royal service and always had plenty of deck chairs Bali beds and fresh towels ! Our pool bartender Jorge also exceptional and made the best cocktails we ever had !!! You never had to move your deck bed on your own, there was the pool man who always offered to move your chair bed and table and would offer to open or move the umbrella to shade you if you so desired!! Total luxury and always smiling friendly staff who went way beyond to make sure your every need was met!!! Finally we booked a private tour to Havana with Roberto which absolutely was the cherry on top of the cake !!! He was extremely knowledgeable and provided us with a wealth of information !!! He was so gracious and made sure we were happy the whole tour!! He gave us ample time to take pictures ask questions and stop to shop for souvenirs along the way ! He brought us to a beautiful outdoor restaurant with music dancing and amazing menu!! Wow what an experience all this and we were driven around in his gorgeous 57 Chevy!!! We would definitely visit Cuba again and now we will only go to the Paradisus in Varadero as our Cuban family eagerly awaits our return!!! We also miss them all so very much !!!

lot of drastic changes in the wrong direction. that made us very upset and angry, the management ruining this beautiful place, which is very sad, very basic food items are not available, and the selection is very poor, this resort was our favorite, but not anymore. no more Cuba for us!

Honestly the staff was amazing cant say anything bad no matter what went wrong the staff took care of it we usually go twice a year first time to this resort and to cuba and have to say doesnt get better staff then that

We visited this hotel August 12-19, 2025. We have been given the reserve section of the hotel. The next morning we asked to move to the Junior suite side of the resort because the reserve side is a good walk away from the main lobby, pools, the beach and the main buffet. Junior rooms were much better decorated and located. We loved our room. Although the unit 2828 the AC is not working properly. Here is what we thought about the entire resort. 1) GROUNDS: Palm trees, tropical plants and beautiful colors of the ocean. Looks like paradise. My score for landscape is 10. 2) BEACH: The sand is never cleaned and full of garbage. Still nice but was dirty. Many beach chairs and many tiki umbrellas. Never needed to fight to get one because the hotel was at 20% capacity. My score is 8. 3) OCEAN: No sargasum here. The ocean is clean and swimmable. However the entry to the ocean is with sharp stones. Look for areas that are cleared. Many fish circles around you and rocky areas can be nice for snorkeling. Ocean score is 9. 4) FOOD: Breakfast is good. However lunch and dinner is a repeat every single day. You will find yourself only eating pasta. Many other choices which no one touches. Fruits are tasteless or dry at the main buffet. The meat is dry and not much choice. The food is not only bad, it makes you upset after a few days seeing the same food served day after day even though no one clearly eats them. This is one of the reasons I finally decided not to go to CUBA again for a long time. My score for the food is 4. 5) DRINKS: They were struggling finding ice from other hotels. Many times we could not get what we wanted because of not having any ice. Without the ice they are not drinkable at that high temperatures. They make the fruit cocktails like pinacollada from powder. Tropical island with no fruits. Drinks were ok. Nothing fancy. My score for drinks is 7. 6) SAFETY: Many serious grounds safety issues. In main lobby areas the decorative pools were emptied and when you walk you can not tell if there is a pool you can fall in. No markings and same color as the floor. A child or an elderly person or even any person after few drinks can fall in these traps everywhere. Many trip hazards everywhere without marking. Around the entire lobby and pool area the tiles are super slippery when wet. Obviously a clear wrong choice of tile. Many open holes where you can fall in dark on the grass area. Your child can easily fall in a hole in the dark. The darkness is an other thing. Some areas are pitch black dark. The lawn lights are not working and if you don’t have a flashlight you walk completely blind for a while. Many light fixtures are removed and the open wires are on the ground waiting for you to step on. Maybe they have no power on them at the moment but who knows maybe they have power. If you are older or have a young child these are serious problems, I am not exaggerating. Unbelievably unsafe grounds. SAFETY score is 3. I am sure someone gets hurt everyday there. 7) STAFF: Generally all Cuban people are lovely. Staff were always working hard and almost everyone is friendly and respectful. My score for staff is 7.5. 8) POOLS: At 25% capacity you are barely finding a chair under a shade to sit. I can not imagine if there were more people. In winter months you will have to wake up at 5 am to secure a good spot for sure. Pools were great. Yes we knew you don’t go to Cuba for its food. However after a few days when everything becomes a routine the lack of choice for the food is very upsetting. I can never understand why they can’t solve that problem but they can’t. We tried many resorts and they are all the same. That is why we will stop going to Cuba.

Great beach and sea, nice and clean resort , great entertainment. No water sometimes, ( 3 days) no TP in public washrooms, food selection is modest. Beer in the fridge ony twice ( the reason: they dont have any) .

My husband, daughter and I enjoyed our week at the beautiful Paradisus Varadero! It was breezy all week so no bugs and not too hot. Was perfect. The beach is beautiful, grounds are beautiful and the majority of staff were hard working and lovely. The resort is well kept by the hard working, pleasant staff. Only complaint would be the main/public bathrooms were not always well stocked with tp or soap so I’d recommend having something just in case. As long as you’re not a fussy eater, The food was plentiful and very good. Between us we ate well, had lots of vegetables, beans, steak, chicken, pasta, ham, pork, crab, mussels, sweets for dessert. Eggs for breakfast, toast, hash browns. Our favourite place to eat had all these options, it was the main buffet. The waiting staff, cooks were all friendly, attentive and hard working. I was surprised at all that was available from Parmesan cheese, peanut butter, Nutella, jam, salt & pepper, ketchup. Any extras like this we were told we should bring, we did not use. Left with other goodies for staff before checking out. Accommodations were very nice. No complaints other than, no water in our group of buildings for a few hours one day. Thankfully it was nothing that affected us negatively. we just stayed at the pool and beach. They resolved it quickly. It ended up happening twice more on two other days at different times, a bit of a nuisance but we made due and issue was resolved quickly. Entertainment was great! My first time traveling to Caribbean and booking through trip central. It was a great experience, straight forward and informative. Flights were great, Air transat staff and service was excellent. Would love to return again some day!?✌???

Voici notre honnête avis sur le Paradisus Varadero. Nous connaissons bien Cuba — il s’agit de notre troisième voyage en deux ans — et malheureusement, cet hôtel nous a plutôt déçus. Les points positifs : La plage est tout simplement magnifique. C’est le vrai point fort de notre séjour. Il y avait amplement de chaises longues et de palapas, donc aucune nécessité de se lever tôt pour réserver sa place. Un vrai plus! Mais pour le reste… - Pas d’eau chaude pour se doucher pendant plusieurs jours. - Aucune bouteille d’eau dans la chambre, même après plusieurs demandes. Le frigo est resté vide. - Nos amis ont reçu deux bières à leur arrivée, mais après le ménage, il n’en restait qu’une. - Au snack bar, l’unique option disponible pendant longtemps était un sandwich jambon-fromage… car le grill manquait de gaz pour la cuisson de d’autre chose. - Le buffet principal était fermé jusqu’au 4 avril. L’unique buffet accessible pour tout le resort était très petit et avec très peu de choix. Côté chambre : Nous n’avions pas d’air climatisé, et on nous a dit qu’aucune chambre n’en avait, ce qui est difficile à croire vu le faible taux d’occupation. Heureusement, grâce à l’aide remarquable d’Idelys, nous avons été relogés dans la section « Réserve » où les chambres étaient climatisées, avec eau chaude et bien mieux équipées. L’ouverture du grand buffet à la mi-séjour a permis un peu plus de variété alimentaire (nous avons vu du poulet et du bœuf pour la première fois!). Cela dit, la nourriture reste très limitée et souvent froide, même en tenant compte des défis d’approvisionnement à Cuba. Départ : Notre vol étant en soirée, nous avions demandé une chambre de courtoisie pour nous rafraîchir. Malheureusement, il n’y avait aucune eau qui coulait – ni pour la douche, ni au robinet – même après une heure d’attente. Nous avons dû partir à l’aéroport sans pouvoir nous laver. Conclusion : Malgré la beauté naturelle du site, cet hôtel ne correspond pas du tout aux standards d’un 5 étoiles. Certaines équipes sur place font de leur mieux (merci encore à Idelys!), mais le manque de services de base nuit énormément à l’expérience. Nous ne reviendrons malheureusement pas.

The resort had beautiful grounds The trip in Cuba have lots of issues example no water, no hot water , running out of water while taking a shower but our outing with air Canada was awesome going to Matanza to the caves . Other outings was going to Varadero doing horse and buggy and taking a old convertible back to our resort The staff at the resort was ok sometimes they would forget things. We won’t be going to Cuba for a while until things get better The travel agent from trip central was awesome (Tammy Beamish ) I would recommend her.

If you travel you must know that having high expectations in Cuba is dreaming in colour. This resort is OK. Never had power outages but they did have many occasions of no hot water. Sometimes for an hour here and there but for some people it was no hot water for the entire week. The resort grounds are well kept but literally thousands of small broken things never getting fixed like door knobs, locks, light switches, flush handles, rain gutters hanging off buildings, trip hazards, green slime on pool walls..... little things so easily fixed but not. Food was plentiful and good enough quality, again considering where you are. Do not expect to receive what their website says. You get 2 beers in the fridge at the start of the week then that's it. No welcome drink or actually anything that was included in your upgrade package. Same breakfast and lunch venue as everyone else even if you upgraded. Only 1 buffet and 3 of 7 restaurants were open. Occupancy is way down with only 300 guests in the entire resort. Most bungalows were empty and most of the resort in not lighted at night so bring a flashlight. To be fair when comparing to Mexico or Dominican this is still good value for the cheaper cost. You need to understand the crisis this country is experiencing and be OK with what they can offer. Do not go here if you need to be pampered or are a complainer.

Firstly, Big thanks to Steve fromTrip Central. Paradisus Varadero was great, We upgraded to the reserve junior suite. Room was large, clean and exactly as pictured. Air conditioning was COLD! Resort was spotless and very well maintained, excellent staff from the beach to the maid service and concierge. The staff WANT you to have an excellent experience and it shows. A variety of dining options, fresh fish, seafood, fries, omelets, bacon etc. Plenty of condiments and beverages. We had no issues during our stay and were pleasantly surprised at the food quality and service. The beach is outstanding. and the entertainment is lively.

Write up of Resort --over promised and under delivered. Arrived at 11.30am. Did not get room until 5:30pm. Paid for The Reserve Junior Suite Ground Floor King Bed. Requested same building as rest of family. Got 2nd floor, different building, no phone to be able to contact family or call for a tram. On the 3rd day of arrival we were finally able to move into the building with the family and able to unpack properly. Originally was told we would get a ground floor then told would have to pay $220 US then told it was not possible. Lots if inconvenience as I had mobility issues. Food at the main buffet was ok. Pasta line was always a long wait as there was one person serving one person at a time which took 5-8 minutes. No activities for kids over 6. Was told that this resort caters for folks wanting a quieter vacation. Should have been mentioned on the website.

As usual the beach was the only good thing about this resort -- the grounds are run down and it is very large so expect lots of walking. The description of the resort is not what you will experience - most restaurants and buffets are closed; there are no water sports or options for same. We paid extra for the "Reserve" area and it was not worth it - no extra amenities as listed. Our room was a very basic two double (not queen) beds and a pull out couch which was on the floor. We had no hot water - not even warm for the first 4 days out of 7. Toilet paper is in short supply so bring your own. Nightly entertainment was usually just few dancers. It was a very quiet resort with basic services. I was expecting bad food but the food is absolutely horrendous with limited options and the same food for every meal. The only "snacks" available every day is french fries and a bun with cheese on it.

The resort was good and the staff was great. They did what they could for us. The resort is showing wear and tear, but overall was very nice. The beach was the best in Varadero. However when booking, do not book this resort through Sunwing. Complete nightmare

We had a wonderful vacation at Paradisus Varadero. The resort was lovely! I highly tec the spa!! Food was great, entertainment fun and staff outstanding! You can not beat the beach at this resort!! We would definitely return!

We enjoyed our recent stay at Paradisus Varadero. The grounds are beautiful. The beach area at this hotel has a special feel with lots of palm trees directly on the beach. The water is shallow for a long way out, so great for families with young kids. You won't be disappointed with the entertainment options at Paradisus. Activities are plentiful for the young at heart, with Yoga, Stretching, Beach Volleyball, Soccer, Tennis, Kayaking, and lots more. Or simply walk for miles along Varadero beach. You also have a Gym and Spa at your disposal in the Royal Service Section. There are also medical services on site in the Royal service area. Food and drinks could use some improvement in the standard section. You may need to upgrade to Royal Service or The Reserve for more selection and higher quality. My main concern was the Ara buffet which had no windows and hence birds could fly in and scavenge for food. very nice well-kept grounds and beach same tasteless food every day, some basic items were not available the special diner for Canadians were excellent we had to fill out twice the required entry/custom papers for Cuba and nobody were asking for them this was very upsetting.

Best settled resort with the view of the ocean from the inside of the resort. 5 star Beach! Cleaned every day! Water and sand spectacular Food- no one will starve. No one will gain or lose weight Actually for a vegan is the best place. Lots of options .

I recently stayed at the Paradisus Varadero resort with an amazing view and a nice beach, but unfortunately, my overall experience was marred by several significant issues. The food at the resort was terrible and I ended up getting sick from it. Not only was the food the same every day, but it was also left out in the open air, with birds picking at it. The rooms were not clean, with pillows that smelled of sweat and pests such as cockroaches and lizards present. Some rooms had broken thermostats and stained bedding. In addition, my body is covered in mosquito bites, adding to my discomfort during the stay. Despite returning from my trip two days ago, I am still suffering from diarrhea, cramps, nausea, and the itching from numerous mosquito bites, which I believe are a result of the conditions at the resort. I would strongly advise against staying at this resort until they address these serious issues. The management needs to improve the cleanliness of the rooms, address the food quality and safety concerns, and ensure that guests are not exposed to health risks during their stay. Overall, my experience at this resort was extremely disappointing and I would not recommend it to others.

A beautiful beach surrounded by palm trees that ensure shady spots for anyone that wants them, there are plenty of lounge chairs as well. Grounds are a bit large, about a 5min walk from reserve to main beach, but there is always a cart with a friendly staff member willing to take you anywhere. Decent food and a good variety, and always something to drink. Wonderful friendly staff that help make your trip perfect

We stayed on the regular side (NOT the reserve) and glad that we did as the main area had a good vibe going on while the reserve side was far too quiet and remote. The overall feel of the resort is lovely although it need of repair and maintenance. The beach is INCREDIBLE and the pool area is enormous and plenty of space for all ages. The resort staff are nice and do what they can to make your stay enjoyable considering the limitations Cuba has on food and drinks. Our hotel room was OK (a little tired and in need of repair (broken lamp, no hot water the entire week, not REALLY enough space for 4 people, not enough blankets) BUT we spent most of our time outdoors poolside or at the beach. Although the food was limited to about 50 ingredients total the staff did their best to make it interesting. There was always enough and we always had clean water to drink. What I don't recommend is the a la carte restaurants...the food is better at the resorts...and you have to get in line early to get a place setting. I would just stick to the buffets and you'll find something you like. Cuba is experiencing a tough time at the moment with resource and food shortages so the resort did a good job accomodating guests considering all of this. We came prepared with condiments, salad dressing and some snacks and had a great time. I would come back but would be cautious in which friends to recommend the same to as you really have to be prepared for less comforts than you would get in Mexico. If you're easy going Cuba will be fine.

We had issues with our rooms the first night we arrived. There was confusion as to where we were supposed to be , which area, (even the driver did not know). Our first room(s) was not cleaned, with beds not made, no towels, broken safes etc. After several attempts with hotel staff to get our rooms changed,the following day we finally were able to settle in a different room(s). These were more up to standard. The staff were excellent, doing the best they could . Our maid service in the second rooms was tops (#10 of 10) . Drinking water was left every day and fresh towels, clean beds, etc. There are no complaints - we even had a concierge in the second area. The beach was excellent. I would recommend this area.

This was our very first vacation in Varadero, Cuba- and it was splendid. We have been to other resorts in different parts of Cuba and Varadero has been a memorable one. From the very clean hotel rooms with hot water to the hotel well kept lush grounds to the beautiful beach and unbelievable hot and cold fresh food variety!!!!!! Yes you are reading this correctly. The food was awesome!!!! we did NOT get sick. We were able to brush our teeth with tap water too. Staff was friendly entertainment was sufficient, but would’ve like to see a bit more interaction. They work hard and they deserve every tip you can offer. The locals would really appreciate medication, clothing, and toiletries over money so I left behind what I could. Souvenirs, rum, coffee and cigars are best bought in the town- better value. This trip has not only provided history knowledge, but also has enlightened our perspective-and mind set. “Be happy with what you have - stop complaining and appreciate the beauty that surrounds this island”!!

This resort is easily on one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever visited. White sand and warm crystal clear water. The staff were kind and helpful and overall, we truly enjoyed our vacation. That being said, we would not return to this resort. For 10 days we didn’t have hot water in our rooms for showers. This is a widespread issue in this resort that has been ongoing for weeks. There are no top sheets on the beds. Just a thin cover that felt more like a tablecloth and a fleece blanket that didn’t look like it was easily washed. The sheets and pillows had an unpleasant odor to them like dirty laundry and towels were in short supply. The grounds were beautiful but maintenance of the buildings and rooms was not great. I assume this is due to the lack of supplies being available to actually maintain the property properly. We didn’t have a bathroom door which seemed to be a fairly common issue. The food choices were minimal and clearly staff did the best they could with what they had. The biggest issue is the main buffet being open air dining. Besides being hot all the time, there were a large number of bugs and birds in and around the food which was very off putting. Hot foods were kept warm but rarely hot, and we were served undercooked pork and chicken more than once. There was no cola, no piña colada’s or daiquiri’s. Sprite, gin and vodka availability varied day to day. We had no eggs for 6 days, no bread/pastries for 3-4 days. The food choices were extremely limited. We are not fussy eaters but it did get difficult to find something to eat. This was common across many different resorts while we were there. Even with all of these issues, we had a great vacation. The beach and water were exceptional but factoring in the cost of this vacation, I think we’ll pick somewhere other than Cuba to visit next.

Beach was beautiful. Staff did the best they could with what they had. Some food shortages however not the staffs fault. Hotel rooms were hit n miss. Lots with no hot water, broken safes, unclean. We were lucky to have an amazing room with amazing maids. We went for the beach and were not disappointed.

Had problems with some staff not getting some problems fixed with our room. We spoke to our porter multiple times about no working TV and it never did get fixed. We also had a leaking toilet that caused issues most of the week. Lots of food and drink shortages were also a massive problem and spoiled the trip. For breakfast there was no bacon at all all week. There was also no maple syrup for pancakes and half the week there was no butter either. For Omelettes, early in the week there was green peppers, onions, cheese, ham etc as ingredients. For the last few days there was nothing but eggs. There was no orange juice all week either. Bring your own Ketchup and Mustard, as their version of it is awful. I ordered a steak one night and it was supposed to be beef, but came out as pork. There was no beef except one specialty restaurant had it one night and we thought it was poor tasting. There was also no french fries all week, no potatoes of any kind actually, no regular hamburgers, although they did make a pork burger that they passed off as a hamburger and my wife liked it. There was also no Cristal Beer, which is the Cuban beer people usually drink and like. We like Strawberry and Banana Dacquiri's. They did not have them, with no supply on the mix for them. In your room fridge, at other resorts you would almost certainly get beer, pop and water in your fridge to drink. We had two kids drinking boxes and were told they didn't have enough beer or pop to supply the rooms. To me that is the most very basic things that you should be supplied with. At one point, pop on the resort was only down to Fanta orange and no cola or anything else. They do have some excellent staff, from the bartenders at the bars, to the restaurant staff and the golf cart drivers are all helpful and very attentive to your needs. We just felt at the end of the day, we did not get anywhere close to the value that we should have had for the price we paid. We feel for the staff having to deal with these issues constantly. If you are thinking of this resort, make sure others are saying these issues have been dealt with before booking. We cannot recommend.

Resort is located on a beautiful stretch of land, with multiple pools geared for all ages and a gorgeous beach. Most of the staff are very compassionate and understanding; and will do their utmost to aid in making one's stay worthwhile. The caring staff is an asset to the resort. For example: Niuris - My room attendant at #45 did her best to find someone to patch my damaged luggage so it can be used to return home. She's so attentive. Dennys - concierge disregard his time off to allow me to contact his phone so that he can relay my concerns to front desk when needed. (phone in my room was not in service) Carla - CSR gave a listening ear to my problems re: No working phone in room; Inability to call front desk for a ride to get around at nights with a 5 year old twins in the darkness. Room key malfunction and being locked out. CSR willingly provided her number as well and aided with relaying my situation to front desk and help was provided. She is very considerate. Maya and the entire kids club team are amazing. They are genuinely caring, protective, talented and truly professional. My 5 year old grand twins enjoyed to the fullest.

I have travelled to many countries (Europe, China, Mexico,DR, Jamaica and Cuba several times) so my expectations were realistic. This was the first time that I treated myself to a 5 star resort. Our trip organiser should have advised us to pay more for "Royal Service" accomodations which I presumed to be worthy of the 5 star rating. The upkeep/maintenance of the "Jr Suite" assigned to us was more like that of a cheap motel. When we arrived at around 8 pm, the air conditioning was not in working order...condensation from the unit dripped from the ceiling and pooled on the bathroom floor...the blower fan made a loud clanging noise when I got it to work. (I recorded this on my iPhone) The heat and humidity in the room throughout the night was unbearable. Guest services said that a mechanic would be right over to repair it... this didn't happen. I tried to reach our tour organiser (Sunwing) but their offices were closed and the WiFi at the resort was not working (no Internet for the duration of our stay) so unable to access their website. The following morning, attendants at "Reception" said no other rooms were available... When our SunWing rep arrived, I was told that there was nothing they could do and they were busy booking excursions. At around noon, the air conditioner blower was repaired but this made the dripping from the ceiling even worse. Finally, Guest Services arranged to move us to another suite. In this suite, the toilet did not flush properly (the tank did not refill unless the cover was removed and the float manually repositioned). Furthermore, the handle on the outside of the patio door was missing and there were no small towels, facecloths or shower mats. As we were wanting to enjoy our vacation, we did not pursue the matter further. Most of the pathway lights leading to both suites assigned to us were either broken or missing. This created a hazard because a large hole (3 ft deep) was left uncovered in the lawn and I narrowly missed stepping into it. So, accommodation was substandard but the beach was beautiful, the workers friendly and the buffet food was good. Only one of the 3 onsite restaurants which we visited served tasty food. In one of them, the grilled fish was so salty as to be inedible.

Please go anywhere else but Cuba. The resort was decent as far as structure and pools and beach. Not everyone knows how to make a drink. So good drinks were few and far between. Four of us went and we all came home with stomach issues. There are alot of shortages in Cuba so food is being highly affected and reused day over day in the buffets. Resturants were no better. Excursions cancelled due to fuel shortages as well. No potatoes not even a french fry was avaliable to try and stay on the safe side. A complete waste of money. Our rooms curtians were broken bathroom mirror rotting. We offered to pay for an upgrade to royal service and were declined. Just dont do it. Sunwing vacations were no help. I will NEVER book a sunwing vacation again in my lifetime. No business class on flights. Looked into paying $50 per person for elite but dont do that either elite is the exact same as everyother seat on the plane. $50 per person each way if you want to sit at the emerg exit row. Just Crazy. $25 per person each way for a carry on? Sunwing nor Cuba ever again. I could go on. Oh wait should i mention that we couldn't exchange our towels for clean ones because of laundry service shortage. Employees seemed to really be trying but alot was out of thier control. Spa didn't have steam room or sauna working and mini bar had only water and two beers a day. We were told it was due to shortages. There's more but quite frankly its too much to list.

Very nice, beach and resort, too bad they do not maintain it properly. None of the beach showers worked, some toilets were closed, some had no papers, etc... If something breaks down, they don't fix it.

Beautiful beach with old dirty lounge chairs. Two beautiful pools with 6 showers, one working. Most pool umbrellas broken. Pool ladies washroom closed. Lobby mans washroom stinks. Broken stalls. Most rooms not available, used for storage and full of mattresses and furniture. Poorly lit walkways or no lights at all (Reserva side) Garbage all around and on the beach. Nobody cares to pick it up. Overgrown grass all around. Main pool hummock dirty with hole in the middle. Looks like its been there since opening 23 years ago. Air Canada rep nowhere to be found. Lobby's staff denies to call the rep. Cigar store is a disgrace to Cuban tobacco industry with rip off prices. Most of the brands 30% cheaper in Canada. Same at the airport. Food below even for Cuban standards except pasta, meat, fish stations and roast pork. The rest is mostly cold and distasteful. Creative food recycling (left overs served next day in new dishes) raised to art form. Very unpleasant. Best food at 24/7 pool bar. Chicken, Cuban and hamburger sandwiches. Ketchup and some days mustard. Broken bathroom fixture and ripped windows curtains. Upon arrival relocated from main area to Reserva section far away. Four hours wait for room. Instant coffee at restaurants. Good coffee at lobby's bars. Good tonic and watery drinks. Tip well. They need it. Ask Reserva lobby staff for money exchange guy. 1CDN=200 peso. Do not use Cadeca. Robbery rate. Would i go again...no. Go to newly build resorts like Grand Aston Varadero and Melia International.

Paradisus Varadero is good resort very nice beach 🏝️I love palm trees and lots of sun beds at all time. Restaurant was very clean it was always 4 different types of meats but I was surprised to see nothing from veggies or even oranges which is tropical fruit. Room was ok I was on ground floor it was my first time that I had a ground floor so I am not sure if it’s normal to find huge bugs like it was 10 cm long and lizards visiting my room. Also there was lingering smell of sewage on and off from nearby sewage drainage system. Few times I had to spray perfumes to be able to breathe. I think hotel was ok but because of this issue and older limited air conditioning system I would give this hotel 4 stars not 5 like it’s on the site . Oh yeah I forgot my very first trip on the beach my flip flops got stolen. So I had to buy another one over there which caused so uncomfortable they made many wounds on my feet I was in a lot of pain walking. So bring your ugly flip flops.Internet was frustrating because auto log in doesn’t work and even you are not active for 2 minutes it logs you off so you have to keep logging in every time you intent to use your phone. They give you like 10 h a day so you have to go back to reception for more hours. I didn’t like that. It was also very hard to log in to I pad.

I was at Paradisus hotel the first week of August with my teenage daughters in Varadero beach, Cuba. It is truly paradise, the sand was white, and the sea was crystal clear. The workers were very sweet at the restaurants, the buffets and at all the bars in the hotel. The rooms were very good and the restaurants served many foods like traditional Cuban food. The bars had many cocktails with and without alcohol. The hotel is very clean and well kept. The best things about this trip were the beach and the people I met. Thank you Paradisus, Varadero. This vacation was truly unforgettable.

Pros: Paradisus Varadero has scenic beauty, with bright white sands and aqua blue water. The beach was top notch. There was a decent amount of food available in the main buffet. Staff were courteous. Cons: The biggest issue with this resort is a continuous problem with the airconditioner, where only the lowest setting was operational. It was very low, not enough to cool the room, and with 42°C outside, it was very uncomfortable, especially for my toddler. I had made several complaints, even offered hefty tips, but nothing was done to fix the problem. There were no fans anywhere on the property.The quality of food was also very poor, not tasty, lacked flavour. Some of the food items were mislabeled (e.g., label said "white rice" but it contained pork). There weren't adequate safety railings next to walkways by pools, nor were there ramps for strollers or disabled people. Many of the staff did not speak a word of English. The phone in the room was not working, and nothing was done to fix or replace it after multiple complaints. Rooms were outdated.

The resort is located on a fantastic portion of Varadero’s beach and the grounds themselves are absolutely wonderful. We had a beachfront room, which is literally 10 feet from the beach making for very easy access and gorgeous views. The kids club team are an absolute treasure. Our kids loved spending the mornings with them and had very enjoyable experiences. This is unfortunately where things take a turn. On our second night, we visited the Japanese restaurant where we (and the table adjacent) encountered cockroaches emerging from the hibachi table while the meal was being prepared. Literally crawling out of the table an onto the eating surface! This is the most disturbing thing I’ve ever experienced in a food service setting – People were rushing for the exit as if there was a fire. After abandoning the Japanese a la carte for the main buffet, we reported the issues to a gentleman who was a food service manager. He assured us this unheard of and must be an isolated incident……regrettably no less than 10 minutes later we found yet more roaches crawling on the wall beside the pizza station!! The staff seemed oblivious to the problem this posed and took no steps to close the area for cleaning, shoo them away and get back to serving was the order of operations. I approached the gest services manager about these issues and advised that we would not be eating on resort for the remainder of our stay. To the credit of this manager, she immediately made arrangements for us to access The Reserve for all meals and pre-booked our evening meals at the Reserve a la carte offerings. The difference in cleanliness and overall upkeep is literally night and day. The Reserve is spotless, all food service areas are immaculate and we had no worries or sight of further infestation. In closing – It is a beautiful location and grounds. Unfortunately, at the main buffet and a la carte areas, there is a serious lack of sanitary standards combined with a staff attitude that allows the issue to continue.

Staff are super friendly! The rooms are large! The pools and beach are amazing. I wish there was more food selection but I understand with the food shortage in the country I can’t complain, food tasted good. I wish there were more different activities everyday instead of the same thing everyday basically. Also I was disappointed all the water activity facility was closed? Also I was hoping nightly entertainment was going to be big shows, but maybe because it was off season they were smaller shows. Overall 4*

Resort was nice but it’s getting older and needs plumbing work on it’s ocean view rooms. They booked us into a flooded room for our first night which was a bit scary as we arrived at midnight. We had to move a second time due to our toilet flooding. Many Miskitos here as well. The staff are all nice.

The resort itself is fantastically laid out. The beach is beautiful. The main pool was fantastic. The staff... all were friendly, helpful and outstanding. I won't say there weren't little issues now and again but they did what they could to fix the issues. If you go to them with problems and are rude right away thats probably why you arent happy with the service. Remember, they have a different climate that wears things down quickly. Yes, there were days the food at the buffet was limited but we didn't go hungry. The lunch BBQ was always good. Felix..you are awesome. Our room was always well cleaned daily. Add to all the the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, great music and happy staff... that's enough to send me back again and again. By far my favorite stay in Varadero yet.

Beach and pools were amazing , coffee was great , mixed drinks were limited and not very good , food was same thing everyday with no beef or pork , chicken and fish only protein, a la cartes were same as buffets pre much, toilet paper was available in public washrooms 25 % of the time , hand dryers didn't work and no paper towels to dry your hands , this resort has potential because of the location and grounds being so good

This hotel has good bones but has been allowed to get run down Beautiful water pools in the main lobby should be filled with water lilies and tropical plants. Not the case - one pool does have carp and a turtle but the others are polluted. Bad first impression The beach is beautiful as are the pools. Lots of seating and umbrellas The resort is hugh but they have a great golf cart transport for those who don't want to walk. Food is not what we have been used to at a 5 star resort but for most people there is always something to eat. They still struggle with running out of some products. For example ran out of eggs, sliced bread for tart 2 days out of 14; no butter. At dinner they always served the same thing - para, chicken quesidiela or grilled chicken. Like I said however most people where able to find something to enjoy for dinner Disappointing that they closed 2 of the speciality restaurants with no compensation for the client. I have to question how they tach Taff to wash floors. On more than one occasion I witnessed he maids taking water to wash the floors from the polluted water in the pools. Then they threw the dirty water back in the same pool. You could see the bristles from the brush floating in the water. Rooms were basic but kept clean. Beds comfortable. Bathroom design was terrible in 3524 a wheelchair accessible room. There was no way to have a shower without flooding th floor - a disaster waiting to happen The outside lighting entering into our room was burned out. I reported the problem the first morning after we got there. It looked like the tried to fix it but were unsuccessful and didn't come back in the 14 days of our stay. It is dangerous to try and navigate a wheelchair ramp in the dark. I did trip a few times on the paver and almost fell. Good thing I had travel insurance. When we booked our trip, I requested wheelchair service at the airport - no issues, a great help. I also requested a room on the first floor as there are no elevators at the resort On arrival, they had my husband and I in a room on the third floor. It took the rest of the day to find us accommodations. House staff denied that I made a request and tried to blame TripCentral for not submitting my request. The next morning they admitted that they did have the request. There is a lot of potential to improve this resort. I understand that they have a new manager who just arrived from Spain so perhaps he will get things shipshape again. As far as COVID - good spacing in the main dining hall; some staff wore masks No restrictions in tour buses but tourists wore masks. Hope you find this review helpful.

The resort was as beautiful as the photos on the website. The rooms were immaculate and decorated beautifully. The resort staff were friendly and helpful. The pools were huge and lots of chairs were always available. Highly recommend

We stayed at Paradisus Varadero at the end of March 2023. A couple of things to be aware of. The resort has 3 booking options. Regular, The Reserve and Royal Service. We stayed at the Reserve section which is a bit more expensive than the regular one and the only difference is that we had a mini fridge and 2 beers + water supplied every day. A large dissapointment was that those who stay at the Reserve are staying far away from almost everything. The beach was far, the lobby and the main lobby was far and the bonvoy service was pretty slow to respond when we called for a pickup from our bungalow. Our AC did not work and toilet broke down the first day. These are the things we were not happy about. On the other side, the beach there is one of the most beautiful i’ve seen. The people working at the resort are amazing and everyone is always willing to help you. Taxi service is fast and it is easy to move around in Varadero. The food - buffet had almost always the same Food options. Chicken and pork was available most of the times. Overall a good experience, nice resort.

This hotel was not worth the price we paid. The staff for the most part were friendly and helpful. The sanitary standards are not like we’re used to in North America. If cutlery or pot spoon fell on the floor it would be picked up and placed back for use. They only washed the pot spoon they were cooking with when we commented on it. There were flies and beetles (hopefully not roaches) crawling into the food at the buffet. Our toilet wasn’t cleaned prior to arrival and there were no towels in the room. It took two hrs to get towels sent for us. The beach and property were in a nice location.

Just got back from a week long stay. Place is spread out so it doesn’t seem crowded. The food is repetitive and boring, but it is Cuba. The beach is beautiful and seems never ending. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We flew out of Kitchener(Sunwing) and what a relief compared to Pearson, less time and the flights were on schedule both ways! Booked private transfers and this definitely speeds up the hotel drive/arrival time(s). Stayed in the Royal Service section, our Butlers were great Yenisleidy/Yamir! They booked our dinners each day, delivering wine/water to the room and always around should you need. Walked the hotel grounds daily, the Royal Section is well cared for but The Reserve is in need of some attention and we would have been disappointed had we booked that section. Food was good, other than the International and the only shortage we experienced was butter for a day! The bar service around the pool was beyond amazing, the pool guys were always helpful for setup. Don't forget to ask for the large cushions, they are a game changer around the pool loungers!

Staff was friendly and some amazing people. The food wasn’t great. We were supposed to be in adjoining rooms with my Mom never happened we were in different buildings. We waited until the night before leaving to finally get extra pillows. There were no hand towels or face cloths only bath towels. They constantly running out of coffee pods for the room. We always had to ask for more water for our room. We tipped every day too.

The hotel was actually great from amazing bars/ lounge areas. Our jr. Suite was different then pictures we looked at online. Fridge leaked the whole time on floor. As well as water was off during 2nd last night. The most amazing view of the ocean from main loby. Service was very good from all the great staff keeping drinks flowing and great conversations no akward interactions. Buffets was ok at best we would have to check each one out for every meal, but this seems to be common for cuba. We felt quite let down in regards of a la carts booking them was a joke really and felt like being jerked around by conciarge. As most promises by them were just empty. Grounds were very well kept, pools were in great shape/clean. rooms were kept quite tidy from staff. Bar fridge could be much better stocked as it really wasnt. Internet in rooms was almost non existant leaving you to use your own personal data on roaming as well as kicking you off every 10 minutes when you get connected.

The beach was fantastic. Beautiful rooms, restaurants and lobby. The staff were welcoming and efficient. I love this place and would go back. The food was adequate and there was a decent variety. If you couldn’t find something to eat you were too fussy.

Overall, I think the Paradisus Resort is a good resort for Cuba but it is starting to be run down especially at the The Reserve. I do not think the The Reserve is worth the additional money. The up keep of the rooms is poor. Both shower heads - tub and shower were leaking a lot. The landscaping around the room especially the swim out suites was poor. It looks old and dated and not well kept up. We had no real extras. The bar was only filled with 2 beers. They did provide water every day but in the 11 days there, there was cola only available on 2 days for the room and not other choices. At the bars and buffet at the The Reserve, choices for drinks and food was limited compared to the main bar and buffet a the Paradisus. Food choice at the buffet was very limited and very repetitive and I am not sure if this is a reflection of the state of things in Cuba or just this resort. I would return to this hotel as the location was nice and the beach beautiful. Staff were very nice but it is over priced. As for COVID precautions, there were none other than hand sanitizing at all the food areas and bars. No masks were worn

The hotel was nice rooms were decent and staff was very polite and friendly had a great time relaxing and enjoying the beach! Food was ok I would recommend taking your own spices and hot sauce if you enjoy flavour! would recommend as soon as you get there to book al cart restaurants as they did book up! Although when we were there we only had two options Japanese and intercontinental (menu changed daily for intercontinental)and if you go after 2 pm you can get lucky and get a reservation for the reserve side al cart which has more options. Drinks were good bahama mama was our favourite! I would suggest taking items you no longer need as staff really appreciate that (baby items,shoes, creams, clothes) vs tips. Beach was beautiful, pools were good but cold water January they mentioned weather can be windy and cold one day and then super hot the next would recommend to pack a light jacket or sweater to have on those days! Overall nice place to visit friendly people all around felt safe going into the town.

in general, the beach is very beautiful, the pools are clean, as for the hotel, it is a very dilapidated resort, it needs a renovation, the rooms are quite clean, but they have very poor wi-fi and no usb input

While I loved dealing with Louise this resort was way less satisfying than we expected. Starting with our room…curtains falling off, shower head spraying all over, cold water for showering , had to slam door to shut it, smell of sewer for two days, bedding was horrible and no heat. The hall…. Half the lighting was out and doors all broken off and sewer pipes all exposed. Cleanliness was satisfactory in room. Resort itself….hot tubes didn’t work, some pubs were closed, entertainment was same dancers every night accept one night there was a horrible magic show. Pools closed at like 7 when I’m on vacation if I want to swim after supper I should be able to. They did have a few great singers. Food….could get into dinners we wanted, couldn’t get food if we had an early excursion, my husband is an early riser and had a hard time getting coffee due to broken machines, plates were absolutely disgustingly dirty all the time, toaster didn’t toast unless pressed 5 times. Food was Cuban and expected but breaking fillings because rice not cooked properly was not! Staff were polite and curious and did their best. Loved visiting a different culture but won’t ever go back to this resort ever!

The hotel has a stunning view of the ocean and a welcoming staff, however the facilities are old and often broken. There was no hot water shower at the beginning, we couldn't use the coffee machine, toilet was not flushing, the door key card was not working etc. Food is not good as well, people simply didn't know how to cook and also there were not much varieties, we were fed up towards the end and had to go out to dine. All in all, we would have expected more from a 5-star hotel, but it's really disappointing!

The hotel was great not much water pressure in the room showers or hot water, the food was ok at the buffet not much flavor or variety a la carts we did Cuban and Italian they were both very good delicious food. Knowing about the state cuba is in did not expect much in the way of the food but expected a little better that what we had at the buffet. Beach is beautiful staff is amazing and friendly

We loved our 4 day stay at the paradisus Varadero The pool and the beach were amazing. Friendly staff. One downside to our trip is that hotel was only about 25% filled Which was good you didn’t have to fight for access to chairs or anything… but if you were looking to meet other people would not be so evident. Other downside is the food for boring fast.

Everything was ok with some minor issues. Internet service was horrible but thats everywhere in Cuba. Buffet was repetative and sometimes they didnt have wine or soft drinks. Our room had an adjoining room so we heard everything that was going on in the room next to ours which was really annoying.

We stayed at Paradisus for 7days and it was a fabulous trip for my son and myself. There was hardly any mosquitos as mentioned from previous travellers. The food was very good and the deserts were great. Instead of 200 Choices of food like in Mexico, you had 100 which was more than enough to enjoy. I recommend the Japanese restaurant, which was great and entertaining. The beach and water was perfect, no weeds and very clean. All the staff worked hard and the rooms in the reserve section were clean and spacious. Hi hit recommend this hotel if going to Varadero.

Go to the adults only Royal Great place to relax and very clean. You can eat at all the restaurants anytime and a-La-cart is unlimited. Pool is cleaner if you plan on travel in summer. With the shortage through out the world don’t except 100% after Covid. Everyone has to catch up!

Second time at Varadero. The hotel was very good, cozy room (beach front), friendly people, specially the entertainment team. If you like to play tennis, Miguel was an excellent coach. I payed 3 times with him. Hotel was maybe at 45% capacity. So, not so many people at lunch/breakfast time. Only 1 pool was open. Amazing beach Food was ok. my preference: Seafood Recommendation: Do not change your money at the Airport. Keep your US$/CAD/EURO. You will need them

I have been in Cuba 7 times prior to this vacation at paradisus varadero last week of May 2022. By far the worst experience and service. Watch out for the loggage guys they want Canadian money right from the second they dropped your bags. A thank you is not enough. 1 snack bar is not enough for a big resort, runs out of supplies daily so don't be surprised if you eat a burguer without ketchup and mustard for afew days. (No kidding) Bring a book or download movies because unless you are under 10 you will not enjoy any of the night shows in the entire week . If you have kids GOOD LUCK! apple juice, orange are no where to be found. We saw cereal in the last 2 days and the cereal was not crunchy. Food well well well. I been in Cuba 7 times I know food is never good but I never saw a shrimp on the buffet in 7 days not fresh fish only dark tuna steaks which were good surprisingly Rooms were clean but that smelled of wet never goes away. Keep toilet seat close or you will get that bad Snell all over your clothes. The gardeners and the cleaning ladies are the ones that will smile and welcome you the most without any interest. The beach is 9 out of 10 That's why I go to Cuba because of the beach. Overall I found in this trip that food supply and financial situation has changed what I love the most about the island. That free loving welcoming spirit. Now you better have money in your pocket for tips To Cuba I might return but to paradisus varadero I will not go ever again not even if the trip is free and I get paid to go.

The resort has a fantastic ocean view dinners and beautiful walks. One of the best lobby in lobby Bar that ever been to.The rooms were newly renovated comfortable beds.Lots of food options. Staff and people all very friendly and helpful. Would definitely book again and would recommend.

Our 4th time in Cuban resorts Excellent place for families with children. Very friendly staff, excellent reception desk. Great layout of the grounds. Everything is close (except sports), incl. gym and medical clinic. No other hotel can match the views from their main cafeteria and snack bars. Washrooms very close (even to the beach) and very clean. Service + BBq on the beach: impeccable Beach: excellent, protected from the big waves, unlike other places in Varadero. Plenty of spaces, no need to fight for shade or loungers, good quality towels. Tip: bring swimming shoes as first 5 meters into the water are rocky Swimming pool: beautifully renovated with 1 annoying defect: no shades at all (at least, not yet). What a pity! Beach bar: very average, as bartenders are not on the pool side, serving first people coming from behind. Good size rooms (but no place to sit, needs a sofa or something) and balconies. Tip: Check all equipment and toilet and get them fixed ASAP Food: poor diversity. You definitely have to go to fine dining: Japanese and Brazilian being the better ones Free 1-hour Internet every day, can be banked for next day. Very fast line. Don't forget, get your Internet card every day at the reception. Entertainment: would give it 3 stars, max. Varadero always windy in March. Too bad for snorkeling at the hotel's beach. A few mosquitoes at night, unless they spray. 1 Cuban Peso tip (plus a little extra for the housekeepers) is very well received. Plan a budget of 10 pesos per day. The waiters wil bring you change for your bills.

Paradisus Varadero, Cuba is a nice hotel in general but it is far from being a 4 1/2 star category given to it by many sites. It's more like 4 stars and even 3 1/2 in many aspects. The location and beach with its swaying coconut palms right on the white sandy beach is a lovely sight and to be cherished. It does not get more beautiful than this. Our disappointment started upon arrival. We arrived at the hotel at 2 pm but reception did not give us our 2 rooms until past 5 pm because they were not ready! Granted the resort is huge and spread out but management should hire more house-keeping staff. Finally, when we got the rooms they did not have any smaller towels and we had to ask for them. The tiles were cracked and most locks in the resort did not work - especially most annoying were non-functioning locks in the public toilets around the resort. Faucets to wash sand off feet did not work. There were no more beach towels left after 12.30 pm !! Food was OK but extremely bland - there is enough variety in the buffets to satisfy almost everyone but by the same token because they have so much variety they could easily make some dishes a bit spicier. Their salt is bitter IF it came out of sprinkler in the first place. We didn't understand why they don't use iodized salt which runs freely even in humid countries. The beer is good, but liquors were terrible.The staff and all waiters were great and very friendly.. 5 stars for the beach, most waiters and housekeeping. Cashiers exchanging money were very unfriendly and rude. The dining room is new and has a great view of the beach. The resort is TOO BIG TO RUN EFFICIENTLY UNLESS MORE STAFF IS HIRED. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE EVENING SHOWS ON A FAIRLY BIG STAGE WERE FANTASTIC - 5 * STAR

Paradisus Varadero: The worst vacation in 30 years. The resort is sub standard, in every way. The rooms look super cheap, terrible workmanship, etc, etc. Service is way below average. The workers (most, not all) look completely disinterested. Food is sub par, at best. No, it gets worse. There was a theft of my daughter's expensive cosmetics bag. We turned the room up-side down. Nothing. It took approx. 1 hour to complete an official security report. The next day, we leave our room at 9am, for the day. When we return (5pm), the cosmetics bag is sitting on the book shelf... 100%! it was not there in the morning. Clearly, it was returned by the thief. No, it gets worse. The next morning, 8:30am, a young group of people living below us, started blaring their sound speaker...as loud as you would typically hear at a night club. I called reception and we asked to be moved. No, it gets worse. Back at our room, we pack our bags and proceed to reception...but, we were told our new room is not ready. We had to wait 2 hours in the lobby for our new room. We go to dinner and then to our new room. But, they never transferred our bags to the new room (as promised). At 9pm we finally! get our bags. This resort is rated 5 stars. You've got to be kidding me. I would give it 1 1/2 stars, l'm being generous because the beach is very nice. If some one were to offer me a "free" 1 week trip to this resort...100% l would turn it down. Just terrible!

The grounds were clean, the staff friendly, however, the rooms were not renovated as indicated on the website--we changed rooms three times. The beach area was full of stones. The food was okay--not amazing. Not what we expected according to their website.

We went for the week of February 10-17.... We got there and loved the resort! It was beautiful! Not busy at all even. Found out that they were not even at 50% capacity. Unfortunately, it was nothing but issues after that. The beach was dirty and rocky, not cleaned. Lots of bugs (I was eaten alive even with bug spray). They ran out of beer, certain booze and even pop by the 19th! That was no beer for the rooms. Booze ran out at the bar along with some mixes and certain pops! Coke and Fanta were out by the 15th. The fridge in our room didn't cool. Other than that, no real issues with our room. Running out of certain meats as well. We went to an a la carte on the 14th and it took 1hr and 28mins for food to come. Our friend's steak ordered well done and it was still mooing, sent it back and nothing for 10mins. We ended up getting up and leaving and going to eat at the snack bar which is where the food was actually decent but they were even running out of items. Many other people complaining to management, but they were not helpful. Very slow service in the lobby for drinks at the beginning of the week when they had a stock. Just went downhill from there. We were pretty disappointed since this cost almost $3000 for 2 people. Would not recommend unfortunately

Very nice resort; some things need improvement, but their staff is willing to do whatever they can to make our stay enjoyable. I would mention Jonathan from customer service and Dennis from the main restaurant.

This resort was generally really nice though did have some short falls. Beach: really lovely white sand, plenty of chairs and shade, no need to go early to reserve. Pools: really nice, seemingly recently renovated, nice and clean. They were renovating the snack bar bathrooms nearest to the pools, so you kind of have to plan your bathroom trips ahead. Room: we stayed in 1122 which had terrific central location but was pretty dated and in need of updating. Poor air conditioning and kind of musty smell, beds and mattresses were clean though. Lots of storage for your things. Shower had hot water but didn't drain well so it flooded the bathroom. Buffet: overall not the best, repetitive and didn't have standard foods (no bacon at all for the week), but we didn't starve and aren't super picky. Snack bar and beach grill: great food and service at both. A la cartes: Mediterranean and Japanese were both good, the fusion restaurant Bana was so so. Service: was excellent, concierge, bartenders, gardeners, servers across the board were great, attentive and positive. Sometimes they ran out of things but always tried to make it work. Tips were appreciated but we still got great service when we didn't have any money on us. Bugs: lots and lots of mosquitos, bring bug repellant and then pack more. Money: we brought Canadian and exchanged it for CUC. There is a little bank kiosk near the entrance of the hotel and had essentially the same rates as the airport, maybe 1-2 CUC less. Very convenient though. Internet: only available in the lobby. You have to connect with a card that has a username and password. Each card is 1 hour of internet, and they were giving these out for free. Everyday you can get 2 cards per person per room (4 total). But you have to go back to get more everyday. This hotel was very good value for money, so it was an enjoyable stay for us. Certainly it could be improved by some room and food upgrades, but it was still overall pretty good. A little bit on the quiet side, there wasn't much nightlife, but we were after relaxation so that was just fine.

After having had a great experience at Paradisus Del Mar a few years back, I expected better from this Pardisus. So here it is from best to worst: BEST: The location of this hotel is its best asset. The views are incredible and the fully mature palm trees on the property are awesome. The resort is slowly but surely being maintained and improved. No big noisy renos going on. GOOD: The room cleaning service was TOP notch (we were in room 2226). The snack bar staff, service, ambiance and food were our BEST experience. Friendly and happy, they delighted us repeatedly! They kept running out of white wine though. NOT OKAY: The buffet - Understaffed(it seemed) and running out of basics like salt & coffee. Service... what service? The staff walked around like they had weights on their heels and the famous phrase 'one moment' meant: forget about getting whatever you asked for. And, we were asking for coffee at breakfast! Until, until, until... the supervising managers showed up :)! Then we got everything. The pace picked up and 'voila!' all was as it should be. Although the staff was unhappy and it showed. The food varied (egg shells in their scrambled eggs seemed to be part of the recipe). The worst was the custom omelets. The women there had a bad attitide and her omelets not good. Twice we got her replacement and she was really pleasant and nice and her omelets were very good. The best was the fish grill and the pasta station. Both delicious with friendly staff. HORRIBLE: The cuban & Sakura asian restaurants were the WORST. Food was horrible at both. No show at Sakura, the girl cooking was an amateur at best. Miso soup was a simili onion soup. The waitress... OMG... We arrived on time and she told us to wait. I was trying to ask for a glass of wine while we waited but she cut me off and told me, again, to wait (with an upset face). I finally finished my sentence to ask for the wine and she again told me to wait. She was definitely the boss and I was definitely bothering her :(. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend. Sorry to all the nice people there, but you are outnumbered by your unhappy colleagues.

Hotel was amazing. Rooms were large and kept very clean. All the staff were extremely friendly and would go out of their way to help. The beach is one of the most beautiful I have seen. You are never bored at the hotel always something going on

The resort is very good but the food is not great especially the alacarte restaurants..half of the time they did not have the dishes mentioned in the menu .. the service is great , people are really nice and helpful.. loved their entertainment team.. kept us busy the whole day including evening.. really liked the kids club as well.. the staff is really nice ..

Upon arriving the resort was very clean and inviting. The gardens and scenery very beautifully maintained. The beach is breathtaking. The service was a little slow. Our consigliere reserved all of our dinner reservations which was nice. The push for excursions to Havana was pretty aggressive... I was told it was an hour to get there it was 2 hours. I was told a cheaper lunch place would be provided it was $20 cuc per person which is about 28 CAD. The restaurant servers were basically dressing in as little clothes as possible and I was with my 13 and 12 year old daughters.. The excursion wasn't appropriate to our family whatsoever. It wasn't considered so please chose wisely and consider they are just pushing for most expensive excursions and do not consider anything else when recommending.

Perfect for dowtime, quiet, couple visit. Beach is incredibly beautiful, private and large. One of the best in Cuba. Downside, is the hotel is doing renovations, painting, drilling, building, very noisy and not pleasant for a peaceful atmoshpere. Once it will be completed, will return but not during contstruction. Great staff! Food was great too, buffet had good options. Overall great location and stay just not renovations.

This hotel was good, the reserve rooms were nice, clean and the balcony was nice. The kids zone is old and needs to be updated the slash pad is also old and needs some work but it is fine for the little ones. Love the big pool on the main side of the hotel overlooking the ocean it is large and you can walk into it great for our little one. The beach was nice a little rocky but it was still beautiful. The lobby and entertainment and staff were also very nice and enjoyable however the food was awful and we were all hungry. The snack bar food was hot and prepared to order the buffet was somehow cold all the time with very minimal selection. However, for $1200 each for 7 days I’m not complaining :)

We were disappointed in the service at the resort, saying that we have to point out some of the positive areas ... the concierge were absolutely wonderful, they were helpful in every way. ( thanks to Lilly and Hanset). The bar in the family reception (new area) was also very good, the two bartenders went above and beyond for our family, both adults and children. The beach is lovely, could of been cleaner but we enjoyed the water. The two shows that our family attended were first class entertainment. Now as for the service in other areas .... we were given a room in the older part of the resort with a partial view of the ocean and the kids were in the family area. We requested to be moved closer to the kids rooms, it took two days for them to move us (something we didn’t understand because the resort was really not busy) but they did finally move us in the same building as the kids on a flour with no hallway lights which was a little scary in the dark, we did ask them a number of times to get a light in the hallway but it went to deaf ears. The room was nice but we didn’t have towels or fridge supplies or drinking water for the first day we were in the room after calling a number of times we borrowed towels from the kids room and went down to the bar to get drinking water. Now the food !!!! We were prepared for the food not being the best but this food was awe full. The a la carte restaurants were also terrible, they never had their complete menu .... and it was the same food that was at the buffet just presented differently. The waiters spoke very little English and seemed confused serving a table of nine (we never could get our food at the same time). The concierge would book our restaurants and three times we got to the restaurant and it was closed and it was moved to another restaurant. (Frustrating with a group of nine). We would only give the Japanese restaurant an ok recommendation the others no.

We got a call the day before our flight to tell us that the part of the hotel we were initially booked with is being renovated and we were being moved to another part of the hotel. We arrived late on Thursday night and a buggy cart took us to our room from the lobby. We had requested a crib upon booking the holiday but none was provided, no water and the mini bar (which is included) was empty. We tried to call from our room to guest services but the phone didn't work. My 2.5yr old was hungry and thirsty so my husband headed out and arrived back an hour later. We were not told which direction was the lobby from our room and there are barely any lights in the building blocks. The renovation of the hotel looked amazing but where they they moved us was very small. Service at the snack bar was terrible every day. Hot water only worked for the first day, food was really bad - me and my husband lived off bread rolls, cold cuts and cheese. Food items kept running out. I was told no bread for my hot dog and 10 minutes later someone gets served with bread. Both my husband and I booked for a massage on separate days. With the massage we were told we can us the jacuzzi, sauna and pool. The sauna and steam room both didn't work, the jacuzzi tubs were cold, dirty and no bubbles. The showers had no hot water. On Christmas Eve, we all had reservations booked for a special dinner. We lost the paper and the manager of the restaurant was ready to kick us out as soon as we heard we didn't have the paper. Luckily for us the woman at the door was nice enough to check her clipboard and found our names and table. They have breakfast cards hanging on your door offering a number of different breakfast items. The card wasn't collected from our room and when i called down to let guest services know, I told her I had ticked for all of the items. When room service arrived, they gave two plates of chopped fruit and a plate of stale mini pastries. When I called to ask why i was given this instead of what I had asked for, they couldn't explain it. Definitely a hotel that is faking it to make it. Nothing is as it seems. Everything behind the prettiness is broken, everything being the professional courtesy fails every time. This was our first trip to Cuba, our first family holiday as 4. So disappointing...

Overall food was good base on Cuba’s standards. Except the chicken they overlook Entertainment, Butler services and stuff where excellent The beach was very clean and amazing For 5 star resort the Building overall needs renovation specially little items in the bedrooms

Thank you Monica for changing our hotel. Royalton was just amazing from food, to beach, to entertainment. The only downside was we were without hot water to shower on 2 days. When we walked on the beach to Paradisus, we were glad that we changed to Royalton! the amount of noise in Paradisus (due to construction) was not good. Thank you Monica so much for the recommendation and taking care of us

Our adjoining rooms were great (clean, spacious, well-air conditioned and comfortable). The grounds were well maintained and the tropical gardens were beautiful. The beach was stunning, but quite a hike from our rooms (carts were available to transport us if needed). The pool was good. The swim-up bar was sometimes open. There were several lounge chairs and cabanas available. Many amenities were closed or unavailable due to construction (sports centre, largest pool and many restaurants were all closed). This offered limited choices. Food was mediocre at best. The buffet restaurant which was the main option for breakfast and dinner was repetitive. Some was okay. Nothing was what you would expect of a 5-star resort. The only a la carte restaurant that seemed available to us was just awful. The worst chicken ever (slimy, chewy and greasy). Our concierge (butler) service was useless. There were 2 who alternated days that were assigned to us. They really didn't have the time of day for us. They did not provide the services that were listed. We had to seek them out to book the a la cartes and this seemed to be a great inconvenience to them. They messed up several times and rather than apologize, they became very defensive about it. If our package was more expensive for this service, it wasn't worth it! There were 4 staff who went out of there way to be friendly and helpful (our maid, our porter/ bell hop, one of the bartenders at the lobby bar and one of the young women at the front desk. I only wish I knew their names so that they could be further commended. Everyone else could take lessons from them about customer service. No one else seemed to care. Our Sunwing rep (Janel) at the resort was helpful. The excursions (Sugar/Rum/Cigar and Havana were good). We had amazing guides. We had a difficult travel day for our return trip. We got up at 5am, expecting a 6:45am pick-up at the resort. While waiting in the lobby, we received a call informing us that our flight was cancelled and we would be picked up at 5:30pm for a 9:30pm flight. We were already packed up and had checked out of our room. We were exhausted. Although we had gained a day in Cuba, it was kind of a wasted day. At the Cuban airport it was chaotic. We waited in line for an eternity to check-in. So slow. Sunwing did not communicate well with us at the airport. The flight was delayed even more. We didn't end up boarding until midnight. What a long, frustrating day! Overall, our vacation left us with mixed feelings. Right now with all the construction and amenity closures this is not a 5-star quality resort. Hopefully this will change once this is completed because there is potential for it to be amazing. Sunwing really needs to work out their flight issues. Too many flight changes, delays and cancellations which is confusing and frustrating for travellers. Also, if someone pays extra for advanced seat selection and pre-boarding on flights, these service should be honoured. Our advanced seat selections were bumped (double booked with other passengers) and the premium service package which we paid for did not easily allow us to pre-board for our return flight. Apparently this applies at the Toronto airport only and not at the destination airport (only Elite plus is recognized as priority boarding). This needs to be clearer when people are purchasing these services.

The luscious tropical gardens were beautiful and well tended. The beach was stunning. The pool was nice and there were lots of available cabanas and lounge chairs. Some of the staff were friendly and helpful, but others were not. Due to construction on the resort, many amenities were unavailable which was disappointing (the sports centre, largest pool and many restaurants were closed). The food was mediocre, with limited options (repetitive buffet, some strange concoctions). Only one a la carte was made available to us and it wasn't very good (worst chicken I've ever had!) The concierge (butler) service was not helpful at all. There were 2 assigned to us for alternating days, but we only met one (the other didn't bother to meet us.) Booking our a la cartes was difficult and she made it seem like we were inconveniencing her. We had to seek her out and when she messed up our reservations she became defensive and lied. We didn't ask much of our concierge, but she didn't deliver at all. This was disappointing. Our flight to the resort was great. The return flight was delayed by 12 hours. We got up at 5am, only to find out that our flight was cancelled and we wouldn't be picked up until 5:30pm. Our time at the Cuban airport waiting for our departure was pure chaos. Poor communication from Sunwing staff. Long delay. Herded like cattle in the check in lines. Overall, we enjoyed things about our vacation, but there were some elements that could be much improved, especially for a "5-star resort."

The hotel is so clean, the ladies are working all day cleaning and also the gardeners keep grounds wonderful Check in was a breeze, no problems and taken directly to our room, which was also so clean, and a very good size, fresh towels everyday, bed changed often. I must say a shout out to the entertainment committee Ernesto, who kept us busy,all day. If you are travelling to Cuba, you need to understand there are food items not available, we had no bacon or sausage all week, but plenty of other items, did not go hungry. The Alacarte restaurants are good on the whole, but as it is Off season, the Buffett restaurant is not open on days when alacarte restarants are. Also the main pool is under construction so had use of one pool, Evening entertainment is just ok, nothing special, I did enjoy the show in the pool, on our last night. On the whole, we had a good time, this resort is not for party people, but for a nice quiet holiday of pool and beach. Do not miss the double decker bus that goes from end of drive way, for 5 cuc, which you can hop on and off all day for same price.

I just returned on Sunday, May 5th, 2019 from staying at the Family Concierge Hotel in Paradisus Resort in Veradero & would highly recommend it! The staff were amazing & the rooms were very modern & clean! The wait staff at the Buffet & Snack Bar were fantastic as well! My family & I had a fantastic week there!

We went with 12 family members to Cuba. This was our first time in Cuba and we went in with lower expectations as it is a very poor country. We were told by multiple people that the food and the hotels are very low quality but went in with high expectations of the beaches. We were pleasantly surprised to eat food that was decent and stay in a hotel room in the family concierge part of the hotel that is nicer than most hotels we have stayed in in Canada. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. It was a family trip that we won't forget for a very long time.

We paid to be upgraded to the family concierge section, but was very disappointed with the service. the buffet in the section was closed all week, forced us to shuttle to the main section for lunch and dinner every day. we often had to wait for a long time for the shuttle. 2 of us also got food poisoning. sunwing flight was delayed for both going and return flights! which was very challenging when traveling with an infant. this is our first time traveling with our baby and it was a very disappointing trip.

Very nice hotel , the Family Concierge was very neat , the staff very friendly, the service was great ! The beach beautiful the food on the buffet was good , the snack bar was always short of pizzas or ketchup ... the staff very nice

We went for a week with two children aged 7 and 8. We stayed in the family concierge area. It was an amazing time at a beautiful resort. Clean, solid food for Cuba, and a great, friendly staff that was willing to help. Service times were never slow. The beach was wide and long and beautiful. Always able to find shade at the beach, between all the palapas and palm trees. We would definitely go back. Well done Paradisus!

Went here for a week. Lots of good and bad. Good was decent food for Cuba, nice pool and beach. Bad was the service. If you don’t go royal service, don’t expect anything special. The worst was the water shortage we experienced. Very had to get water for your room. The food was the fresh seafood and meat/chicken cooked on demand at the buffet. The restaurants were disappointing. Good if you want beach, bad if you want to be treated well.

Resort was beautiful. Beach was gorgeous! There was a variety of food to choose from and servers were courteous. Mosquitos in the room were not appreciated. My overall experience was great! I would recommend this resort to family and friends.

Went there a week ago with big group of friends and childrens for eight days. The resort and Beach are absolutely gorgeous. The People are super nice . hotel room is clean and roomy fit well for family of 4. Definitely recommend it!

We went on a family vacation totaling 8 people including children. We had a good time but since it was not peak season not all of the restaurants were open as advertised. Also, since it was geared towards families there was no smoking allowed, which was great, only I was irritated by the fact that it was easy to detect some of the workers smoking. The ocean was great but we had about 20 feet of stones to wade through to get to the sandbar. After stating the negatives, the staff was courteous and did a great job of looking after you and the weather was great. The food was not bad but after being in Cuba a few times in the past, you don't go expecting 5 star restaurants. They do their best. We had a good time but I think that I was expecting a little more.

It was well kept and clean. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful...even the gardeners! The downside was that we were in Family Conciege and the dinner time at the buffet started at 6:30 (which meant 7:00 p.m.). Getting late for little ones. The evening shows also didn't start until 9:30. There was too much of a gap between dinner and the show. Food was okay, but not great. However, they make the best calamari! Overall, a good place to stay.

Enjoyed everything about this resort. The beach goes on forever meaning one can enjoy a scenic walk. The bay is a swimmer’s delight; although water shoes are helpful as there is a short zone of coral present. Plentiful loungers and palapas. Food was very good, especially the lunch bbq at the Cuban restaurant. The accommodations were basic-the bed was comfortable and pillow ok. The entertainment here was OUTSTANDING; from musical beachfront sunset serenades, to Cuban bands at lunch restaurant to the evening entertainment which far surpassed that presented at other resorts I’ve been to. The evening beach party, including the fire dancing was amazing. The day staff leading the aquafitness, beach volleyball, dance classes, and crafts were very friendly and inclusive. This is really an area of strength at the Paradisus Varadero. We had great service from all servers except for some reason the males at the 24 hr lobby bar who generally ignored us. Perhaps we weren’t tipping enough?? Thoroughly enjoyed the day trip to Havana booked through Transat. Overall we were delighted with this resort.

Perhaps it was the time of year but we took the time to take video of the beach which was full of rocks and seaweed. Walking to the ocean was treacherous. We had heard from many people of how the beaches are so great. There are nicer beaches in Ft. Lauderdale. The sand is tilled but the rocks stay behind. Not stones, rocks. Several friends have viewed the video and admit they have never seen the beach this way. The service at the resort was terrific! The staff are wonderful and warm. We took the Royal Service and were very pleased with all it had to offer. We were very well looked after by our butler(Javier). The shower, which is in the garden was pure heaven as was the pool at Royal Service. There was not an issue with the language as the majority of the staff understood English and my bad Spanish. This was our first visit but we will consider returning because of the Royal Service and we totally enjoy the Cuban people. We did however find the exchange rate from CDN to CP a little high. There were several other very small issues with the room but nothing that would keep us from not returning. I would however suggest that when you arrive in Varadero that you pay the 40 pesos to take a cab to the resort instead of waiting for a bus which stops at many hotels on the way. A total waste of time. There were several restaurants which were no longer open and again this could be due to the time of year and the resort was not full to capacity.

This resort is beautiful and its beauty is a result of hardworking staff especially the entertainment staff who work tirelessly to make your stay memorable. The Music at Sunset, shows and a multitude of other entertainment was lovely. For Cuba the food was very good especially the bbq lunch at Playa Ranchon which was delicious. The beach was beautiful and the water warm. Had opportunities to go for a catamaran sail a few times which was beyond amazing and free. Also went snorkeling not too far out and for $25 they take you out and stay while you snorkel. The rooms were comfortable if basic but clean. Rode the double decker bus to Varadero and had the best Pina Colada in Cuba. Try the homemade ice cream at the resort...so good!

Room was great nice location next to pool and 24 hour pool bar which had amazing chicken wings and excellent ice cream. Food in buffet could have alittle better selection and hot items were not too hot. Resturants we ok and the beach buffet was very nice with a good choice of barbque items. Beach and pool area had lots of palm trees and plenty of chairs. All in all we had a very pleasent vacation.

Had a wonderful relaxing time. We were happy to have had our suites near the pool and beach. Even though it rained a bit, still there is always someplace to just sit and relax or listen to the music and wait it out. Found everyone to be polite and very helpful. Loved our stay there.

The hotel was outstanding. A breathtaking landscaping beautiful all around. The room was always kept in mint condition. Our stay at Paradisus Varadero was a memorable one and we will never forget how incredible our experience of staying at this resort was. My husband and I were blown away by each and every day we had spent here. I would recommend this resort to all who ask me where they should go on their vacation 💜💜💜🏖🏖

We spent 4 nights and 3 days at the hotel and had a great time. The weather was beautiful and the food pretty good. The pills and beach were immaculate. The first room we had was infested with mosquitoes and I would get allergic reactions every time we turned on the AC. After leaving it off for a while, the room wreaked of sewerage. Finally, after two nights of mosquito bites (and the related cortisone shot from bite reactions), we requested a new room. The front desk staff gave us some attitude but accommodated us and the new room was lovely. Our cleaner there was amazing and kept the room spotless, which made us realize that the first room was not maintained at all. Sigh! We felt super duped for putting up with the first room. So, in short, nice spot but no quality controls in place. If you are rigorous about self -advocating though, you'll have a fine time.
