The Good, The Bad and the Ugly at Cofresi Palm Beach Resort
The Good: The staff, the two main buffets and some of the ala carte restaurants were alright (not all of the ala carte restaurants were open or available). The small gym was clean and available. We had requested a ground floor room and that's what we got. Our room was cleaned daily. The Bad: There are 160 stairs between the beach and the lobby. We managed, but if you have mobility issues you'll be in trouble. Some of the buildings and walkways are in poor repair. The reception desk staff did not provided any useful assistance even when asked several times. There was a frequent sewage smell. The pools were gross dirty with hair and plastic cups. The only way to get service was to tip the cleaning and maintenance people. The Ugly: Our room was in very poor repair. The furniture was old (armchair was broken, beds were almost unusable, the closet doors were falling apart). The towels and linen were old but clean. The bedsheets were so thin that there were holes in some places (we use stuff like that for rags at the cottage). The pillows were lumpy (I know that sounds like a dumb complaint, but there were really bad). There was no roller in the toilet paper holder, so toilet paper sat stacked on the back of the toilet all the time. The toilet didn't flush properly. The bathtub wouldn't drain for hours after a shower. The shower hose and wand leaked. The sliding door was impossible to open and close. The main door wouldn't close without slamming it (I'm sure our neighbours hated us for it). There was no TV for the first four days and then not one English channel. The room phone was hit and miss. The clock radio didn't work and there was no control for the air conditioner.

Disappointing stay at Cofresi!
We booked a 7-day all-inclusive vacation stay with my girlfriend at Puerto Plata's Cofresi Palm Beach Resort through TripCentral. It was an all-inclusive, SUPERIOR ROOM with Airport-Hotel Transfers included. After consistent delays from the get-go, we checked into our assigned room and immediately noticed several serious issues related to cleanliness, maintenance, and overall room condition. The room lacked in multiple key areas: 1. Ventilation System – Unsanitary and Poorly Maintained The air vents are visibly covered in dust build-up, mould and dark residue, resulting from a lack of proper cleaning over an extended period. This raised concerns in us about air quality, hygiene, and potential health risks. Additionally, the ventilation system is noticeably loud, impacting our sleep and overall stay in the room. 2. Bathroom – Lack of Cleanliness The shower curtain, faucet, and tub are stained and visibly dirty, also containing visible dark spots and marks that suggest mould or mildew. This indicates the bathroom has not been properly cleaned or maintained before our arrival, which is unacceptable for a newly checked-in room. The room also did not come with any of the standard issued towels and washing equipment, like body and hair wash. 3. Door and Structural Condition – Damaged Fixtures The door frame near the handle is cracked and visibly damaged, showing clear signs of wear and lack of repair. While the front door was able to be locked, the door on our balcony was not, making it very easy to step in and out of the room. This not only reflects poor maintenance standards but also raises concerns about safety and security. 4. Overall Room Condition The room appeared outdated, poorly maintained, and not properly prepared for new guests or anyone, for that matter. These types of rooms should not be given out to anyone. Multiple elements (ventilation, bathroom cleanliness, structural damage) collectively indicate a systemic lack of upkeep rather than an isolated issue. Given the above issues, we confronted the staff of the resort and were sent from one department to another with no help and forced to stay in the room for a night longer than we should've cause the resort was fully booked, although that was a lie, as they had options available with an extra cost ($). That is totally unacceptable, and the false information provided by the resort staff is clear misinformation which they knew about. After switching us into a different room almost two full days into our trip, we got sent to another part of the resort with the same room level but better room conditions. While the rooms were suitable for newcomers, there were quite a few problems with these units as well. The front doors in the new room broke down quite often, causing us to travel to the lobby on a consistent basis to have a technician come and replace our keys or the key entrance fobs to the room. While this is not a major issue, the neighbours around the room were. In this section of the resort, there were a lot of mentally unstable residents banging and kicking things around throughout the whole day and night. Oftentimes, we couldn't get any sleep from the shouting and kicking of objects. We called the front desk and security on multiple occasions during our time there, getting no answer on most nights, with some nights a singular security guard coming to do a routine check-up on the unstable residents. It was a chaotic and stressful time for the whole duration of the trip. We filed a formal complaint with the SunWing representative who was available on the scene, but besides switching us out of the initial unsuitable room, he was not of much help. The staff around the resort did not seem to really care about any of these issues and were quite dismissive with their actions and tones. After all these issues, all we got as an apology was a fruit bowl and a cheap bottle of champagne sent to the room, which we couldn't consume cause of the stomach flu we caught from eating at their buffet. Hope this review helps a family or an individual in their booking decision with Cofresi and similar resorts around the area. For the amount of money being asked, I would rather book at a totally different region or a different part of the country altogether.

Older resort with some issues
Hotel grounds are very large. Many hills and stairs. Rooms need upgrading. Not enough chairs on the beach or pools. Party of 5 people on our stay. Everyone got sick for a day or so. Staff are hit or miss.

Horrendous Resort!!!
The bad: This is the worst resort I have ever stayed at!! The front desk customer service is awful to non-existent. The public washrooms at the lobby were so bad they had to place pilons in front of the doors to stop people from going in to use them. During our 7 day stay, we had 3 hot showers, 3 cold showers and one day with no shower because there was no water!! Our family members had no a/c, no television, no telephone, and no coffee pot. In their room, they had 2 lukewarm showers, 3 days with cold showers and 2 days with no water to shower with. One day my sister had to go find a mop bucket of water and carry it up 3 sets of stairs just to flush her toilet!! Although we were promised beer and bottled water in our rooms, we had to buy bottled water because they weren't supplying it, even though it was requested multiple times per day. In our room, our toilet broke and when we called the front desk to ask for maintenance they hung up on us 3 or 4 times. When I finally walked over to the front desk to speak with someone, I got eye rolls and name called (I do understand some Spanish). They tried to get me to go in a van with an unknown man "to find maintenance". I refused because I had read the stories from others who were driven to remote spots on the resorts and abandoned to walk back. Mark heard maintenance men working upstairs from our room and blocked their exit until they looked at our toilet, which they then fixed, although they had not been informed of the issue. The smell of raw sewage was overwhelming multiple times per day - really bad!! For a handicapped person or someone with a disability, the number of stairs was overwhelming to get from one spot to another. The main lobby/courtyard area has 1 bar to serve everyone!! Although there are 3 other bars on the Cofresi resort, 1 was at the beach (multiple levels of steps), and 2 were shut down and left moulding. The good : the pool was great, the scenery was nice and the food was adequate. We were told that Air Canada and Air Transat vacations have stopped selling packages to the Cofresi resort because it is in such bad condition!! I would not recommend this resort to my worst enemy!!

Cofresi Palm Beach
A little older built resort, very big, getting around is by shuttle bus or walking in short distances. Beautiful palms and lush greenery. Many pools, the best is the adult only. Some rooms had problems with the air conditioning not working, the cofresi part of the resort would need more renovation.

All in all a great experience
The main public areas (lobby, pools and buffets) were well maintained, although maintenance to some infrastructure (roof thatching, some moldy hallways) needed attention. In addition, I'd strongly recommend making the narrow closed in area in front of the only entrace to the main buffet a 'Non Smoking Area' as cigerette smoke smells took away from the dining experience.

STAFF SO-SO IF YOU GET A GOOD ONE. PLEASE REMOVE YOUR WEBSITE - OR UPDATE IT. MUST BE 25 YEARS OLD. THE PLACE DOES NOT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE IT , NONE OF THE PICTURES ARE ACCURATE. Worst place ever
⭐ Absolutely the Worst Resort Experience – Not Even 0 Stars Our stay at Cofresi Palm Beach Resort (Jan 20–27, Booking #149939083) was extremely unsafe and unacceptable. I strongly advise everyone to avoid this place, especially seniors. Major issues we faced: • Too many stairs and no senior‑friendly pathways • No hot water for the entire stay • Room phone didn’t work • Toilet wouldn’t flush unless we poured water manually • Iron was broken • Door key failed every single day • Staff and Sunwing representative offered no help Serious incidents: • My husband got food poisoning, collapsed, and suffered a head injury that required hospitalization • I slipped in the dining area due to a wet floor, lost my toenail, and bruised my entire left side The only positive was the resort doctor, who was excellent. This resort is unsafe, poorly maintained, and completely unprofessional. I will never return, and I do not recommend it to anyone.

2 star at best
This includes the Cofresi and Presidential suites. The issues were so numerous we need to warn people before coming even if the price is a steal. Property in bad repair. Cold water Showers that won't drain. Broken iron. Dirty cracked pools. Watered down bottom of the barrel alchohol drinks. The food was the worst part. Which was surprising based off the reviews. The buffet food was the equivalent to dog food. Mashed meats and fish in a soupy sour sauce that was served over and over. No flavour. Zero seasoning. The basics were missing. Other guests and us commented how we had to stash bananas and crackers in our rooms just in case. The al a cartes were good but again issues; you can only book 3 total and the ones you want are always already fully booked. Was asked 50 times do I want to buy a massage, buy excursions, buy cigars but I couldn't even get a decent meal. We had to eat off the resort to get a decent dinner. The internet limit is one hour a day and you have to move around to connect. The entertainment is minimal. Resorts are a 2 star disguised as a 3.5/4. Wouldn't stay here again even if it was free. Wouldn't recommend. Wouldn't return ever. The staff very friendly, the staff were some of the nicest people I've met in my entire life. My complaints are with the poor management and resort owners who are skimping on the food and allowing the property to stay in bad repair.

Lousy Beach. Good Value
Hard to beat for the price. Good food, lots of booze, nice pools and lousy beach. Seriously, the beach had open sewer and smelled awful. We had to tip to get good rum. Our room was not a suite as advertised. Lots of nice people but not so much at the reception desk.

Lots of fun!
The resort has alot more than what is said online, they have foam parties, silent disco nights and fun things to do during the day while being around the pool. A lot of fun for younger adults! The food was pretty good and many different options to pick from for dinner, either buffet or making a reso at one of the restaurants. Many different pools, and easy and fast walk to the beach.

Horrible resort
We vacationed at the Cofresi Palm Beach Hotel in Puerto plata, Dominican Republic on April 4th to 11th. I had family meet my husband and I here there for a total of 7 people. This hotel is definitely not for anyone however has a mobility issue. There is no elevators and so many stairs. The hotel is in disrepair, with broken furniture and the bathrooms, for example, tubs with cracks and faucet pulled off. All 7 of us got violently sick, all different days with diarrhea and vomiting and I was in bed for two separate days. I thought I was feel some better and two days later I was in bed until 4 pm. All of us had stomach problems and could barely eat and hardy drank any alcohol. I meet 5 members of my There are shuttles but always had to wait for them and were not frequent. The beach was not near our room so walking for me was very difficult. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. I wouldn't even give it a 1 star.

It was okay
Well organized pick up and transfer to the resort from airport. Fast check in too. The junior suite room was exactly as we saw online. With one surprise, a view of the pool and beach! We were close to the pool, bar, snack area and beach(3 mins). Room was always done and mini fridge full with water, beer and pop. AC worked amazing especially since it was soooo hot. Just what we needed. One thing we didn't like and annoyed us to no end was the constant staff asking if we wanted massages. It was non stop everyday right until we were about to leave to go back home. If we are interested we will find you. Stop the nagging! Also, when getting a junior suite you may get a deal that includes some VIP privileges. We had that. We came out of the pool on day one, went out to our balcony and there was a staff member(man) saying "you are late come come. You get VIP tour." Sweet! We figured we could see where everything was, like the bars and restaurants. Boy were we fooled. Totally not that at all. We were taken to a big white building that says "lifestyles vacation club". We were told to sit on these fancy couches and then someone came for us. We were told to come with him he was our tour guide. Ok. Off we went. 4 hrs later ..no lie, and 2 pissed off people(myself and my husband) the "tour" was done. They didn't show us the different pools, or stores, or restaurants or bars! No. They showed us all the options out there to become "vacation club" members. Not a "time share"(which is exactly what it is) after I finally stepped up and said "I'm getting angry. We are NOT doing it so stop trying" we were finally set free ...and no they didn't take us back to our resort which was a far walk in the heat. We caught a shuttle instead. Which is a great addition at the resort I might add. The shuttle runs every 15-25 mins. Tell them where you want to go and they take you! And seeing how it's a Stay at 1 Play at 3 Resort, it comes in handy and really appreciated! The food was ok. Nothing fancy but we didn't starve and we ate healthy. Only issue is there isnt a restaurant open 24/7. So if you miss breakfast you wait again until it opens for lunch, same again with supper. But the staff there were great! They even befriend you and remember your faces. Not alot of entertainment. We pretty much just hung with friends and drank and made our own fun. No bars open down by Cofresi resort (where we stayed) past 7pm. So we had to make our way up to others. When I say up, I mean all up hill...with many many sets of concrete unlevel steps. Not fun in the heat or when you are hungry or tipsy. But again thank god for the shuttle. They aren't shy on the booze either. I actually had to ask for less alcohol in my drinks because they were so strong. But hey won't complain on that end! Great offering. If you book a trip and get a later time to leave resort, make a plan. We had to check out of our room 1130am. Didn't leave til 720pm for airport. To stay in the room and extra 1 1/2 hrs it was $20.00 usd. After that it was $10.00hr usd per person up until 5pm! Ya no thanks. There is a locked room where they store your luggage and can have access to. That is when the Bellhop is there.. Don't fall for the "you can use hospitality room" crap either. Said you can go in to shower before you leave. What a joke ! We sat there infront of the desk for 2.5 hours waiting for our turn. We kept being told "check back in 30 mins" or "yes you are next what is your name". Joke. We asked 3 times and got "oh sorry someone is in there" then when we said " we have been here you said you could see us and will tell us when free and now it's not" we were pissed. We didn't get to shower after spending our last day there...so imagine what a comfy flight we had. They also don't include soap or shampoo in the hospitality room and 2 towels and apparently it was disgusting with a broken shower head. Guess we dodged a bullet. Don't lose your bracelets. $200.00usd to replace. Don't lose your blue towels. $40.00 usd each for a new one. Also don't leave in your room at check out. Bring them to the front desk! Bring cash Don't use card They seem to convert from Pesos to Usd then Canadian. We thought it was only USD to Canadian exchange when using CC. Nope. When we saw our online statement we near died!! Book your excursions on resort only. Not with anyone on the beach. Recommend the ATV 3 hour tour and party boat(booked at water sports store on the boardwalk at Cofresi) what a time! We had Mexican A la Carte. It was ok. Atmosphere was nice and relaxing. Then we had Italian. It was very good. Atmosphere was not so good. So loud, lots of yelling. Couldn't have a conversation across the table. Didn't stay for dessert because of headache from the noise. Overall, we had a great time and made the best of it. Met up with our friends who also came and met some new ones! Just keep an eye and pay attention to the negatives mentioned above. Hesitant on going again though because 5/6 of us got super sick the first few days home. We weren't on the same flights so had to be the resort.

Gone downhill
We visited this hotel 10’yeats ago and had a great experience. This yea we tried it again and it was not the same experience. The grounds were dirty, pools all needed repainted lawn chairs broken everywhere. Garbage laying around all over. The staff was more interested in telling you what they would charge you with than helping. We all had food poisoning out last night and were sick for 10 hours. Entertainment was lacking and there was no Sunday vip party as advertised. Would never visit again.

Was alright, better than -40C!!
Be prepared for lotssssssss of walking, as well as plenty of steps and angled ground. We didn't mind it too much, got our exercise in! The rooms were good. The cleaning ladies will help themselves into your room and start knocking on the bathroom door even if you're in there. And do not disturb basically means don't walk in just keep banging on the door. Be prepared to never sleep in either. I got wicked sick one day as did my husband and many many others we talked to at the resort. We are guessing its from the food, not sure. Mine was that bad I had to see a medic and get an IV and drugs. Also note!! You can get a taxi to a pharmacy (or they deliver to the resort during day hours) and you'll pay pennies compared to what the hotel medic charges for the same thing. You don't need prescriptions in DR, so anything you want you can get (and stock up at home!!). Lesson learnt after a $700 doc visit. We went to a pool once, there are many pools scattered throughout, all seemed decent. The beach was meh. But we didn't care, it's better than -40C at home. First day we got there we had no hot water but they fixed it the next day. All In all it was good. Probably would try a different resort instead.

Attended for business conference gone bad LSC
We booked months in advance as a large company and were very very disappointed!! Two notes before the review- the event staff and coordinator were amazing but not related to the resort. The staff friendly but.,,As one of the senior event attendees - my room - the most basic of things that you need to travel, shower did not work, nothing in fridge, toilet paper not replaced, coffee maker did not work, one bottle of water that would not open, safe broken, mold everywhere in room, I had to pay to go to the spa just to get a shower and toilet paper!!! Unacceptable, I am not picky but shower toilet paper toilet and coffee required. Asked numerous times not addressed. No Wi-fi, members of our large group got severely ill and when asked for help were made to walk to the lobby while projectile vomiting. We are going to be seeking refunds or legal action

Awful experience!!!!!!!
Cracked tub, door that doesn't lock, no hot water, 2 hour+ check in, sewage flies, sewage smell early a.m and evening. Cracked tub - literally the entire tub Cracked. When you wouod shower, it felt as though you were going to get tetanus from a cut or break the tub *complained to Manager, nothing resolved* Door - locked some times, other times didn't. Thank goodness we didn't travel with expensive items. No hot water - literally freezing cold. Certain times of day were luke warm, some freezing cold. The tub didn't even drain! Absolutely disgusting. 2 hours + check in - we arrived at 1 PM. Waited in line for 1.5 hours, until 230 PM only to be told "your rooms are not clean" so heres the bracelet, feel free to enjoy amenities but leave your bags at the front (where anyone can take from). Sewage flies - first time showering my 5 y.o (Who is terrified of bugs, cried the entire shower), 5 sewage flies swarm her. Which if you research sewage flies, are not hygienic. This is where they are commonly from...slow or clogged drains, rarely used and unused toilets, refrigerator drain pans, and standing water created by leaking pipes. We typically saw 3-5 of them per DAY!!! Sewage smell - this is a smell one can never, ever forget. I'm 99% sure why we all had vomiting, and diarrhea 2-3 of the days we were within this resort. We often witnessed waitresses going to the bathroom, simply rinsing their hands with water, ZERO soap used. From 7-10 am you can only smell sewage from almost everywhere on the resort except by the beach. Same from 5-8, sewage smell. Theres a certain path, in the 300s where it CONSTANTLY smells of sewage. Would I go back? hell no!!! The Vilas looks nice however were never offered as an option. I'd pay $1000s of dollars more if it means a cleaner and more hygienic option. Avoid this resort at all cost. Spend the extra money and go for the 5 star. Skip at all cost.

Geared for young people
Cofresi Palm Beach Resort is definitely a place for younger people. it is built into a hill and there are steps to get EVERYWHERE! I am in my late 60's and in very good shape but it was a little too much for me at times. I got sick, as did several other guests. I found the place exceptionally noisy (loud music at all of the pools)and was not able to find a quiet spot to just sit QUIETLY. it is a MASSIVE resort and there are many places that are inaccessible or you need an upgrade to use. We DID upgrade and still there were many places we weren't allowed. i found this very confusing. the front desk was a gong show of confusion, although the staff are always very friendly and eager to help they did not seem to know how to help with a request (IT took us 3 days to get beach towels). these blue towels are supposed to be in your room when you arrive and you can change them out all week and leave them in your room when you check out. there were no beach towels in our room and it took 3 days to get that sorted I would rate this as a 3 star resort at best, so if you are in good shape, like loud music, and love walking its the place for you. most of the restaurants were condensed in two locations which were very far away from our room. there was one restaurant near us but was not open until evening...long walk for morning coffee...lol...one of my favourite parts of these holidays

Beautiful place but too many stairs. Check in was awful. Young people working at reception need a bit of training. We had requested 1st floor and ended up on 3rd floor. All in all, place is nice for the price. Would I go back? No. Too many steps and not a nice beach.

Was able to change after arguing for an hour. Besides check in, everyone else was great. Pools are nice but a few need repainting. Don’t go there for the beach cause you’ll be disappointed. All in all, place is nice for the price. Would I go back? No. Too many steps and not a nice beach.

Disappointed
Locals came for 3 days and I have never felt more disrespected at a resort then I did at this one, pools were falling apart on the bottom, we were not allowed to swim up to the pool bar because it was “closed” they actually made us get out of the pool just to walk to the other side of the same bar, there were no chairs to actually sit on the beach all the beds were far away so it was uncomfortable leaving our bags and not being able see them, there were a lot of stairs and hills to be going up and down nothing was close together. It was very confusing having more then one resort beside us and knowing where we were and weren’t allowed to be. Honest opinion I would not recommend this resort to anyone!

Could be better
Stayed in Junior Suite, room was decent. A lot of walking to get to different things, bar, pool, restaurant, lobby, beach and many stairs. Way too many golf carts zooming around on joint paths, almost hit a few times. Pools need painting but we're clean. The employees are excellent and really are this resorts saving grace.Food and drinks are average.

Amazing Resort
The hotel grounds are large and spread out. The terrain is hilly, but they have a shuttle bus service running every 20 minutes. An exceptional hotel but are restricted areas for home owners and time share areas so not all the best the hotel has to offer are available for the all inclusive. Had a great time, but watch out for high pressure time share reps. and avoid all meetings if that is not your thing. I definitely will go back.

Can't review - got switched to the sub par Casa Marina with zero notice
We didn't get to stay at the Cofresi resort that we'd been making plans around for 8 months. Got switched with NO notice to Casa Marina which was a HUGE disappointment. Nothing but issues and poor rooms, drinks, food.

Beware
We booked this resort and were sent to their sister resort with no notification. Service was terrible. Rooms were dated, no hot water, and toilets overflowed. We had to pay $375 for a room with a functioning toilet. Staff were rude and not helpful. If you had a question they would always send you to someone else. They made you feel like you were a bother.

Disappointing
Rating is not accurate. I would say this is a 2.5- 3 star hotel now. 1hr wait to check in 10 people. Lobby staff either poorly trained or managed. We stayed in a basic room. Room keys didn’t work. No AC, balcony door handle broken off, fan didn’t work and windows screwed shut. TV remote didn’t work. Buttons on the TV didn’t work. Only volume up/not down Bedside Outlet box laying on the floor. Nervous about electrical issues Shower is handheld wand hanging down, not mounted at shower height Beach- lots of seaweed and strong smell of sewage at beach and various places around grounds. Food at buffet- fair/poor. 2 of our party got sick and needed medical attention. Insurance company said we were the 3rd call from the hotel that day. Grounds- lush and well kept. Staff- friendly but not always helpful Entertainment- fair Most pools with cracked concrete, dirty They don’t seem concerned to make repairs/maintenance. I’m sure it was an amazing resort at one point, but we were ripped off. It was not worth the money we payed.

Relaxing vacation
A beautiful palm filled resort. Great spa services. I had a hot stone massage on the beach. Ask for Suna. Upgrade to VIP beach was worth it for free wifi at that beach, day beds with white curtains, good service and sushi. A buffet here and nearby at Tropical. The food was only fair. The specialty restos were good. You can walk between resorts and also take the shuttle bus. Upgrade included a room near the pool and beach. Unfortunately the bathroom smelled really bad and the airconditioning was weak. The worst part was lack of wifi. You can pay extra. One hour free every 24 hours. Good value and a really beautiful (tho older) resort. I had a very relaxing week.

Not ideal
Group of 10, rooms scattered throughout this large property. Check in was unfortunately a long drawn out process, “come back in 10-15 mins” and after an hour or so of this we were getting tired and just wanted to shower from long day of travel. Showered and tub would not drain, called front desk and once again experienced “call back in 10 mins” after playing this game a second time, we’d had enough and packed up all our belongings and headed for one of our single occupancy room, to which we paid inflated rate to have, forcing that friend into our other single occupancy room. Front desk would never return our call about bath tub until 3 days later. We went to our air Transat rep to which he was gonna try and upgrade our room for the inconvenience, only thing was guest services would not comply. The rep then said he would give us a discounted excursion, to which we would have taken him up on except I would fall illl and 3 others from our group with travellers diarrhea from the lack of cleanliness around resort and especially buffet.there was a lot vomiting observed at this resort. I was thoroughly disappointed in this trip as I booked as a 4 star for it to be downgraded a week before departure. I was not fond of DR, and will not return. Air Transat flight was great and would suggest dropping congress from itinerary

Grounds were good, bathrooms were some times good, a couple of back ups in the public washrooms while we were there (a week). Sewage smell was quite prominent at times. Food was ok, Asian restaurant was great! Couple of our servers in the buffet were amazing, rest of the staff were kinda blah. Pools seemed clean, drinks were good. Beach was ok, very wavy (not calm at all). Our group still had a good time however we will book elsewhere next year.

Beautiful Resort but…..
Grounds were beautiful, cleanliness was top notch, staff was second to none. This resort was built on a hill/mountain and is totally the wrong choice for older people. We were in the units which were first built and were totally run down. Had to be moved from first room because it was totally inferior (AC was freezing; the seal on patio door window was broken, could not see out; no drawers for clothes; 4 hangers; no hot water). Thank you to Garlyn Nunez at reception desk who moved us to a better location but same low class unit. I praise him because he was so kind to us and I wasn’t a very happy customer. This resort would be conducive to Europeans who are used to walking up hill a lot. Shuttles were great but hence we all came home sick because of close contact to others. Entertainment was great.

It was a nice resort
As a first time traveller I enjoyed my stay at cofreshiPalm Beach and resort. That being said it is not a good spot for anyone with knee or back issues as many stairs to get to everything. The food was only at certain times and you couldn't get snacks unless you got them at the variety store. The pools and spa were wonderful. The beach was nice not enough chairs. Basically if I were to go here again it would have to be VIP as that section had no sewage smell and less stairs.

General service is too bad but VIP service is good
One major problem of the hotel is, only 1 hour free wifi each day. Evwn for lifestyle vip members, wifi is available only on the VIP areas and the beach. This is a major communication issue in the resort. The general service is very bad. Rooms are small, bathroom door broken, beds are too small, etc. But when we bought the package from lifestyle, the services were good. But this package is not at all cheap.

Bad
We booked all inclusive for my spouse and I for our honeymoon. To start, the hotel is about 30ish mins from the airport. Trip Central supposedly let the hotel know that it was for our Honeymoon however of course the front desk staff didn’t know about that and when we told them upon check-in nothing was offered except “oh, we didn’t know†We booked the Junior Suite with 1 king bed and the room itself was nice from afar but that was it. No hot water, the bed was harder than a rock (I now need to go to a chiropractor) and much more. We were in building 41 and they were doing a huge construction project on a pool right outside of our room with jackhammers going all day long Monday-Sunday 8 am to 7pm, that was extremely unpleasant, loud, and dusty, we went to the front desk to ask to change rooms however they responded with “we have none available†lmfao. All of the pools at the Cofresi side were in very bad shape as in paint chipping everywhere, garbage in the pools, the waterfalls weren’t on etc. also, they close their pools at 6 PM and there is no swim-up bars operating probably because they’re leaking water. This hotel is in very rough shape. The housekeepers didn’t speak a speck of English so trying to talk to them was impossible. Our phone didn’t work in our room so we had to walk up 16 flights of stairs and about 15 min walk to get the front desk for Them not to do anything. The buffets were good however (The Pearl) There is 96% of Dominican locals that stayed here when we were there and they were what almost seemed like put off because we were Canadian which gave us a very uncomfortable vibe the whole time. The beach: Nice, good swimming conditions, next to no seaweed (we’re there in august) but that’s we’re the good ends. Between the Spa Salesman, Giftshop people, Cigar shop people and timeshare salesman’s made our experience crappy as we were harassed everyday to buy something (we got really good at saying no lol) The timeshare salesman wasted half of our last day for us to continue to say NO every time! My husband said the men’s bathroom in the buffet (the Pearl) has a leaking urinal when he went in and there was a blue POOL TOWEL underneath it to catch the leak like EW! and they give you those blue pool towels to use 🤢 All staff expected tips even for poor service. As per front desk: you only get your mini fridge stocked day of arrival ONLY. I walked up to front desk one morning because we had no water in our room and our phone never worked to call them. Front desk tells me “we don’t have bottled water and you have to wait for the buffet to open to get a GLASS of water†like what? I guess I’ll just dehydrate all day to wait for the buffet or bar to open. What a joke! We had to go off resort to buy more bottled water. (The hotel water is potable, obviously) They say “All Inclusive†but you have to pay for: Wifi, Safe Lock, Xtreme Zone, most activities etc. This was one of the worst resorts we’ve ever been to. We will never be back and we are making a complaint to Trip Central. By far the least all-inclusive resort.

So Many Options
If we consider just the Palm and Tropical. Kind of leaving the owners out of my review. The option to either take a shuttle bus or just walk to get around. The walk up and down the hill it rests on would be tough on some. But the walk around is complemented by easy to follow paths to take.Plenty of kiosks with a map of the site Lots of shade from the trees and buildings. Lots pools in different areas, child specific pools and play room. I thought my room was very nice and the cleaning staff were always cheerful. The guys at the lobby bar deserve a special mention. Very engaging and fun to hang out with. Similar with the buffet staff. The food was very good and a decent variety. I only ate at one a la cart. Indo China. Food was very good and the view from the restaurant was very nice. One only complaint. I found a piece of metal in my meal. Looked like a small chip of twisted metal from a can opener. I showed the head of staff while it was still on my plate.

Just Meh!
Guest rooms were not the nicest I’ve seen from a resort. Room was outdated, mattress was comfortable but bed frame old and rickety. Not much in way of on site restaurants. Most were reserved for the VIP guests and of the ones that weren’t, only 1 was open and for a Sit down dinner we were in and out in about 45 min!!! So much for a nice relaxing meal. Food in general was ok. Overall cleanliness of the resort was not nice. They are still using disposable plastic cups which were EVERYWHERE because god forbid people pick up after themselves. The beach area was not private and the hotel had locals there all the time. I’m glad that I had won this trip and not had to pay for it. Was a disappointment

Well tailored gardens
Well maintained landscape with careless wait and house keeping staff. Food quality was below our expectations as well the knowledge of waiters. Constantly had to ask maids to give us clean towels and to refill the fridge even though we tipped them every day. Beach was dirty with floating plastic cups. Pools have pealing paints and chipped steps.

Never returning
The experience we encountered, was to say the least one of the worst I have ever experienced. The first day our room did not have any towels whatsoever in it when I called and asked for towels, they examined me as if I was a towel thief. When I finally got towels the next day, when the do not disturb sign was on my door, they decided they were going to clean my room anyway and took my towels once again. I had a dinner reservation for 6 o’clock. call them at 4 o’clock to tell them I had no towels and after four calls to the front desk. I decided to walk up my self and inquire in person upon being very agitated. He told me my towels were at my room, as I was walking back to my room from getting major attitude from the front desk, literally telling me if I didn’t like what I was experiencing to go and complain to customer relations . On my way back to the room I seen the lady walking with my towels. I took them from her and went back to my room alreadyOne hour late for my dinner reservations . The next day I let them clean my room and once again, they took my towels and did not replace them. I was assuming that they wanted to gain some extra revenue by charging me for towels, but I went and took some out of the dirty laundry, just to alleviate this, and they took them again without returning them. Once I can see it as a mistake, twice is poor workmanship, three times it’s just not called for. The lower pool beside the 500 building was totally disgusting. There was so much dirt floating on top bird feces was disgusting, the pool up by the main desk was missing approximately 14 inches of water until all of the locals came in for the Saturday and Sunday. Then they installed water. Monday some reason there must be a leak in the pool it was back down a foot of water . When the locals arrived, the foreigners did not receive any attention from the upper bar or the bar by the beach. We had one our friends sick in bed for 3 1/2 days could not move and we weren’t allowed to bring him any food. Nobody said there was any room service available when asked, lucky for one of the restaurants to let us take some pizza back for him on the third day. All in all the weather was great the beer was cold and the beach was nice. I personally will never use Translate again, but I will use trip Central as Sandra is an amazing contact, she made us feel absolutely taken care of!

We didn’t check in until 1230am. The front desk did get us to our room quickly, and gave us a map. The part they didn’t do was explain where anything was or how to get there. In the morning and the rest of our time we had to figure it out as we went. I found the resort misleading as it stated around 600 rooms. I had no idea it was attached to other resorts which made it like 1200 rooms. Resort was clean, lots of stairs and distance to things. Room was ok, a bit tired looking. No lightbulbs in half the lights. The ceiling in our bathroom was bulging above the toilet and water was constantly coming down. They attempted to fix, but it still was leaking. Food was good, bartenders awesome as well as the cleaning staff. I would rate this place only as a 3 star.

Resort is part of lifestyle group and location is nice however rooms and amenities are old and substandard, there was no hot water. Also being on a hill it could be a problem for seniors and disabled people walking up and down the steps. there is a shuttle available from 6 am to 11 pm. I did like their gym facilities. Worse thing I found was they wanted $21 US for safety deposit box/locker in the room, it should be part of all inclusive, also internet was limited to an hour a day which I did not care but some people may have to pay for internet use over an hour. Beach was not as good, very filthy and it get deep very quickly, need to be careful with kids.

Wired things to see ever in any resort
We just came back from our March break vacation, from the reviews I read before going I was ready for it. When you arrive the check in takes time because you have to sign for papers about what’s included in your room(spoons,cups,etc..) and if you lose the room card or the bracelet you pay $200(american) each and you rent the safe for $20 for the week (first time ever to pay for the safe). Internet is $45 per week per person (you have one hour free everyday per person, very slow connection)the only resort I saw you have to pay for internet) I didn’t buy it. We asked for 2 rooms connected, we were surprised 😲 when we arrived they don’t have connected rooms, rooms are clean but very old needs TLC,you can’t control the AC temperature, cause there’s no remote control, there’s no hot water in the shower(just worm water). The first day they fill the mini fridge with water and 2 drinks and then They refill the mini fridge with 2 bottles of water only every day 😲 The food is good and tasty, drinks are just okay, you have 3 à la carte restaurant, there was a huge line up for reservation 😒. They have VIP membership sales will ask to take you for a tour, don’t go it’s waste of time, it’s scam, it’s the first resort I feel like they only cares about VIP members, even I emailed them many times before I go to confirm about the connected rooms(I have 2 kids) and some questions they never replied to me. The beach is beautiful, they have variety of swimming pools. There’s no coffee machine anywhere except in the main bar even in the buffet, so every time you want to drink latte or espresso you have to go to one place, if it’s open😒. In our last day, we checked out at 11:30 am and the bus came at 6:00 pm, we put our luggages at the reception they kept it in a locked room, we spent our day and then you go to the reception they give you a room to take shower and change.

Don't waist your money
The hotel looks nice until you take a closer look. My husband and I have been to many different resorts in the Dominican and have never had any problems BUT this resort..... to start it took over an hour to check in. Also... 1. The pools were pealing, the water was very cold and there was a lot of stuff/dirt floating on the surface. There were not enough umbrellas or chairs at the pools. 2. The water system was much to be desired. We had a trickle of water in our shower. My husband had to put water from the sink in the ice bucket and pour it over me to have a shower and vice versa. After complaining 4 times about the shower (and them coming 4 times to try and fix it) we finally had pressure for two normal showers at the end of our vacation. Water was a big complaint of everyone we talked to. Some only had cold water. 3. Nine of us went down to this resort and only two didn't get sick. Some had diarrhea and some were throwing up. My husband and I had food poisoning two days before we went home. We had the same thing for lunch and ended up throwing up and diarrhea before supper which continued most of the night. I still have a sensitive stomach two days after getting home. 4. Like most resorts we have been to in the Dominican you do not drink the water from the taps in your room. The problem with this resort was there were ONLY two bottles of water a day in the rooms. By the time we made coffee and my husband filled his cpap machine there was no water for brushing teeth or taking pills or to drink. The two bottles are replaced each day but you only ever had two bottles. If you used one only one would be replaced. 5. The resort had a septic problem. You could smell sewage all around the resort. All toilet paper was to be put in the open garbage can beside the toilet and not in the toilet, not just in your own bathroom but the public bathrooms as well. Very unsanitary!!! 6. This is a very large resort with a lot of stairs. They wash the walkway and the stairs but it can get slippery on the stairs and we saw someone slip on the stairs one morning. This was supposed to be a 4 star resort but I would have a hard time giving it a one star. If it wasn't for the awesome staff, it wouldn't have a star rating at all. I think tripcentral needs to look more deeply into the resorts they recommend. We are very disappointed with this resort.

Disappointed
We stayed at the confederacy February 26 to March 4, 2023. We were scheduled to arrive on February 25 but due to flight delays we didn’t arrive until February 26. Although we pre-paid for seven nights accommodations when we arrived on February 26 we were told the room wasn’t ready. We arrived at approximately 9:30 AM February 26, and had to sit and wait until almost 4 PM for our room. Difficult to understand how a room that we had paid for for the night of February 25 wasn’t available? The service at the main reception check-in was deplorable. There was no empathy for the amount of time we were delayed arriving at the resort, nor was there any level of positive customer service when we inquired about our room availability. The Transat rep was very sarcastic and belittling. The resort itself was ok. However, the food was below standard of a four-star resort and undercooked. I would not recommend this resort and will certainly not be returning for another stay.

Overall Good
After reading many bad reviews we were a bit worried about this resort. There were areas that needed improvement but nothing that upset our trip. Hot water needs to be addressed resort wide as does basic maintenance and repairs. Overall we enjoyed the the many amenities of the resort and the food was on par with other all-inclusives. We booked restaurants our first day with zero issue. The frost bar was heavy handed on the alcoholic drinks and nothing tasted watered down as I had read in previous reviews. Kids club workers were excellent and interactive with our two-year old. We were not even asked about purchasing time shares or bothered in any way by sales tactics. The resort has plenty of options for pools, bars, entertainment, and food. There are a lot of stairs but even with a stroller didn't mind it as we were prepared for this by the warnings when booking. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a bigger room on the ground floor when they saw we were on the third floor with a young child/baby stroller without us asking at all. Overall it was a good resort for the price. As a budget-conscious traveller it was a great deal. Lastly, I found staff to be friendly and helpful throughout the entire resort - everyone was smiling and happy to help when needed - customer service was excellent. The beach was nothing spectacular so if you are looking for a great beach, this isn't the resort for you, though it was walkable and still beautiful. Freddie our Air Transat rep was fantastic and available to assist when needed.

Definitely not worth the money
This was definitely the worst resort I have ever been to. The pictures do not represent reality. It states 468 rooms, golf on site, 4 poolside bars, a swim up bar, Private beach, a beach bar. These amenities are not for the 468 rooms (which are awful rooms) they are for approximately four times that number of rooms, there is literally not a square inch of space that has not been built on. It is attempting to Service way too many rooms, all of which are being left unmaintained. There’s no hot water in many buildings, sometimes not even warm water sometimes no water. The power went out multiple times a day. The whole resort smelled of sewage the entire week; it appears as though they are pumping all of their gray water into the ocean. Two people in our party got food poisoning on the fifth day, my husband and I both were sick when we got home for days. The food was not great, drinks were worse, getting a coffee and water at breakfast was twenty minutes every time! The resort states it has 9 a la carte restaurants, unfortunately not just serving the 468 rooms but also for the resort next door as well as the VIP’s and the time share owners, so we managed to get 2 reservations at ones that were leftover basically as well as the time (first or last seating) for them for the entire week. Our room was two double beds, a night stand, a table, one lamp, a closet with 8 hangars. There was no dresser, no luggage stand and no drawers or shelves to put our clothes in. We had requested a king bed prior to our trip and again at check in. The beds were hard and uncomfortable, thank goodness the air conditioning worked! No wine was available anywhere except the resort next door at the lobby bar, dinner buffets and the “casino†bar. Not a real casino, just some slot machines. Also the only bar to have anything other than house red and white wine, sparkling rose and a white. The wine was served very sparingly, tiniest wine glasses I have seen - basically an ice wine glass.

This hotel is massive, lots of walking, unless you are staying within the timeshare/vacation club, then everyone has a golf cart and they are everywhere. Ongoing issues in the standard rooms with no water and toilets not working properly. We had a suite which was nice, however it was so damp nothing dried and our dry clothes were alway wet from being in room. Not impressed with food, ocean is filthy and rough and there is a constant sewage smell across the resort. Covid protocols within staff seem very, high, masks, sanitizing, being served at buffet. 10 of us went 3 were violently ill. The rest had stomach or intestinal issues. It appeared you are treated by the amount of money you spent to stay there. Nighttime shows were just ok

My husband and I booked our most recent vacation to the Cofresi Palm Beach Resort last June as we wanted a winter getaway in January. I wanted to write this email to explain our experience and how it was not a positive one. Our dates of travel were January 10-17 2023 and we were flying out of Hamilton International Airport on the 10th at 5:35pm. Our flight was almost 2 hours late taking off. It arrived late so we were not able to board when we were suppose to and then when we finally got on board we sat on the tarmac waiting for the crew to empty the waste and refill water on board. By time we took off it was after 7pm. We landed in Puerto Plata at midnight. Getting through the airport was fine and finding out transfer to the hotel was okay. We arrived to the hotel and got our keys and when we got to our room after 2am our key cards didn’t work. We are tired and hot at this point. So we trekked our long way back, up many flights of stairs to the front desk where they configured our key and we took the shuttle back to our room complex. Our room was pretty basic. The bed was like sleeping on a hard concrete slab - it was not comfortable at all. The mini fridge only had 1 bottle of water in it and we had no pool towels in the room. The next morning we were to go to our transat meeting which we didn’t since we were tired after finally getting to bed at 3am and a long travel day. We had breakfast at the buffet restaurant and then began our journey trying to find seats to sit at the pool or beach. This resort is very limited on seating anywhere you go. The beach was very small and not many seats around. We did enjoy the rest of the day at the pool and had dinner at the buffet. The next day was raining and as we were heading out of room complex the stairs were slightly wet and I did manage to slip down a stair hitting my head and back of my left arm badly. To say this was a bad start of our day would be an understatement. We went to the transat meeting that morning and learned where we can make our a La carte restaurant reservations. We also learned that our mini bar should have been fully stocked and have pools towels in the room which we did not. After the transat meeting I went to front desk and asked if we could have our mini fridge stocked and pool towels in the room and we were informed that they would let housekeeping know to do that. We went on with our day and made the most of it. When we came back to our room to have dinner our mini fridge was not stocked and still no pool towels. I called front desk from our room and they advised they will have someone do it. So we had dinner again at the buffet as we were planning on heading to the guest services office tomorrow to make reservations for the rest of our stay. After dinner we came back to the room where we still had no pool towels and our mini fridge was still not stocked. I called front desk again and tried to explain that I was getting frustrated that I have had to call this many times for these 2 things and they advised they would send someone up. A few minutes later we got a bag that had 4 cans of beer, water and 2 bottles of pop. A few minutes after that housekeeping had 2 white bath towels in her hand which is not what we had requested. She didn’t understand what I was saying so she walked off rudely saying “sorry no English†The Friday during our holiday we ended up both getting food poisoning and not able to leave our room to go anywhere as we were very sick. Another damper to put on our vacation. On Saturday we were feeling better and we headed to guest services to see if we can make restaurant reservations for the rest of our stay as we didn’t want to continue to eat at the buffet and there was a note on the door that said they were fully booked for reservations until next week and to come back Sunday morning. So after that we headed back to front desk and I asked for pool towels to be delivered to me right then and there as I had asked everyday that week and we still had not received them. The front desk reservation person gave us 2 towel cards and we were finally able to get our towels at the main pool that day. Sunday morning we headed to the guest services area in the lobby to make restaurant reservations and the line was from the door to where the main pool was. At least an hour and a half long. My husband and I didn’t want to wait in that line while we had little of our vacation left and we hadn’t had the best time up until that point so we didn’t want to waste it standing in a long line to be told there was nothing available. On our last full day at the resort we tried to see if we could get some sort of restaurant reservation for that night but by time we got to the lobby the line was as long as it had been the day before so we didn’t stand in it. All week we had buffet food which was a bit concerning since we had gotten sick from it. My husband and I don’t tend to eat things we aren’t familiar with when we stay at an all inclusive so we aren’t sure what exactly made us sick from there. The morning when we checked out the front desk man asked for our towel cards and I said we didn’t have them and that our towels were on the balcony for housekeeping to grab. He said we had to present the cards and I told him we were not advised that at all and said they were in the room for housekeeping. He checked us out no problem and we made our way to the airport. Our plane left 20 minutes prior to schedule which was great as we were tired and wanted to get home after this awful week. We had become friends with a few other people who came down the same time as us on the same package and a couple had gotten sick at the a La carte restaurants and other people had complaints about their stay such as showers not working during the stay etc. Overall we would not be coming back to this resort. I found the staff to be rude at times and it was like pulling teeth to get anything done that was so insignificant. My husband and I had stayed at a 5 star luxury resort in Punta Cana back in 2021 and the staff there were so accommodating, friendly and we had no issues there what so ever. We had high hopes coming to Puerto Plata and this vacation put a bad taste in our mouths. I am hoping with this review this gets shared with the staff of the resort so they can change their protocols and behaviours down there for future guests as I am sure we aren’t the only ones complaining about their stay at this property. Sincerely Olivia Howell Abel & Jon Bowles

Terrible trip
On the second day, multiple people in the resort got food poisoning. My husband was so ill, vomiting and diarrhea at once, unable to keep anything in him for 12 hours. The clinic doctor sent him to the hospital via ambulance. We spent overnight there -my husband getting IV antibiotics of 2 types. When we came back, the buffet was no longer self serve and majority of food was wrapped in plastic. The grounds were tropical and lush but smelt of sewage-there was a leaky sewage pipe that ran out into the ocean.

Would not recommend!
Had to pay extra for wifi that was more down then up. The pools are not heated so were way too cold. Wasted hours trying to get reservations for our group and ended up with only 2 bookings for the worst restaurants and had to split our group because there was nothing else available. 7 out of 10 people in our group got sick.

2 Stars at best
I’ve stayed at 4 stars in the DR before and this by far was the worst hotel I’ve ever been to. I’ll start with positives. Servers and entertainment staff were awesome. Beach was beautiful, food was surprisingly ok. The bad: check in system was a long process. I bet some people may have waited 3 hrs to check in. Power kept going out too. Dining reservations required you line up at 9am, I was about 8th in line, the first few days were already full. We were 4 couples and one couple got a room with 2 singles. Took 3 days to change. Freddie from air transat helped because staff said there were no rooms, even when people checked out each day. AC worked in some of the rooms, not ours. they were loud and one of the rooms leaked so the maid put towels all over the floor so they wouldn’t slip. Hot water only on 2 of 8 days. Fixtures and all were from the 80s, very patchwork style of repairs. You have to request a key for the safe but I would guess that’s an extra fee. They never refilled the fridge with beer and pop, but did bring water. Food tasted great in some cases, we were surprisingly pleased. But one by one all 8 of us got food poisoning and were stuck in our rooms. We avoided salad that sat in water and tried to just eat hot fresh cooked food, but we still got sick so not sure where we got ir. You could hear many people talking about their family’s all being sick. The ice is brought in to site and the water served is from the large water jugs.. Bar was underwhelming. No real juice, sugary orange water like tang was served. Liquor was no name, and they had frozen strawberry or pina colada mix. I craved a mojito or aperol spritz but stuck to gin and tonic and vodka Soda or beer. Staff would not allow food out of the buffet to bring to sick guests. I went to guest services. One lady was incredibly helpful and had a vegan soup made for one room of sick family and chicken soup for another. The next day the staff were incredibly rude saying that we had service yesterday so no service today. I explained that the second person in the room was now sick but they wouldn’t help. We had to smuggle out food in to go cups. The following day I managed to get soup. Luckily by the last day we had 6 people that were well enough to go to town, which was the highlight of the trip. In hind sight, I should’ve rented an Airbnb, likely would’ve had better service.

Disapointed 3 stars at most
Resort is part of a group of resorts that has been expanding the last 20 years and has not renovated this part. Food tasted good but we were all sick, entertainment ok, beach is beautiful but divided between groups. They need to fix rooms as they are run down, they gave us the older ones and we had to change. Smelled like mold and sewage, didn't have hot water for a couple days, paint in pools was peeling. It looked better as we went on the other side of the resort near the VIP/members/owners part, we noticed a difference in the drinks and food as they were better there but our access was limited.

Not so good
Pros: nice and clean room, good food, many restaurants; Cons: small beach with dark sand, best spots reserved for VIPs/Lifestyle Vacation Club Members; better service, food and even coffee like espresso available for VIPs only, free internet only one hour/ day and very slow, if you want internet for one week you have to pay 45 USD( cheaper to buy local SIM card with data); a lot of stairs, definitely not for tourists with mobility problem; They lure vacationers to buy membership, sort of shares- be careful !!!

Lost our reservation.
This hotel is an older property, so everything reflected that. Our room had some challenges. The door was tough to push open, hot water was iffy, and the water pressure was terrible. The most unfortunate part was that they weren’t expecting us, and when we showed them our confirmation, instead of upgrading us for our inconvenience, I think they shoved us in 2 of their forgotten spaces. It was an odd introduction to the Cofresi. The nice thing about this older hotel is is very tropical looking, with lots of greenery. We had great weather all week , so we graded the trip a success.

Beware
A very pretty resort, also very large. We stayed for 16 days this fall, and quite enjoyed the resort, the food was quite good, lots of shuttle buses to get you around, and friendly staff. The down side is when you get to your room there is a list of items in the room, and they tell you on this list if any items are missing you will have to pay for them. We read over the list and thought to ourselves okay, but we are not going to take anything so no big deal. Well that was until we had checked out had our baggage on the bus and where waiting to go to the airport, and then someone from the front desk came and asked who was in this room and he mentioned our room number. I said that is me and he said you will have to come with me. I followed him back to the front desk where I was told that I had stolen two spoons from our room and must return them or pay $4.00 US. I was flabergsted, I told him that I most definately had not stolen anything much less to spoons, but it fell on deaf ears. Not having any American cash I paid $210.00 Dominican Pesos (for which they gave me a receipt. Over the course of 16 days we left over $8,000.00 in Dominican Pesos ($200.00 Candian) in tips to various staff members at the hotel. Now I realize that we should have taken a compete inventory of the items in our room and reported that we never had any sppons in the first place I also realize on that basis it is my or our fault. But that is just plain nickle and diming, and as such the resort has lost a new client and we will never return nor will we ever recommend that place. So just be advised don't go there but if you do count and verify each and every item on the list or else.

Beautiful and Friendly Resort
Great vacation. From start to finish. Rooms are large clean and modern. Upon arrival we were upgraded (no charge ) to a suite as the resort was not overly busy. The grounds are well kept and clean. The MANY pools are immaculate. It is very large as there are 3 hotels on the property and you have access to many of the sister hotels amenities. The best part of our stay though had to be the staff. Special thank-you to Micheal ( versace) and the rest of the entertainment staff. They were all so friendly and out going. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will be returning in the future

Was not impressed
The only thing i liked was the staff, i have been to most of the Caribbean islands, never have i seen a resort have no bacon , no real sausage, no ice cream. The bars close at 12 midnite, the beaches were filthy, the ocean had debri flouting around. The room had a leaky shower that soaked the floor when you used it.one of the taps had no water. The place was more of a 3 star not a 4. There you have it, cause you asked.

Horrible experience
ello, my name is Holly Desrosiers I had booked a package to Dominican Republic just arrived home lastnight. My experience was nonethenless traumatic and horrible. I had sent this email 2 days into my trip but the wifi i had paid 100$ for was not working on top of everything else that could possibly go wrong. Our room had problem after problem and it wasnt until the second last day of our trip that we were finally moved into a new room with ac and working plugs. Our first room had no ac so you can see in our attached pictures it was melting away, our suitcases were wet from the leaks and humidity in the room along with all the plugs so we couldnt even so much as charge our phones i had purchased 3 different chargers thinking it was my phone when finally i asked a worked to plug my phone into their charger so every morning i went to the cigar shop and dropped off my phone to charge , Our bath tub was clogged so everytime we showered it was dirty water up our legs and then after that was fixed our bathroom ceiling was leaking which left my hAir straightener broken , i wish this was the end. After this was “fixed†my entire bathroom was dirty from the ceiling leak we waited 4.5 hours for someone to come clean it up, i would have cleaned it myself if they wernt charging $20 for a new towel. This hotel should absolutely be a 2 star resort , the food is horrendous and old and cold ! The service is horrible if youre not tipping EVERY single time , and if you are a vegetarian good luck to you, my husband had to eat off the resort multiple times because all that was available for him was rice and beans or fruit .. the spa harassed us every single day, we purchased a $250 USD spa package and they STILL bothered us everyday for more even though we didnt even get what we paid for to begin with. On our second day we were walking to find food because it was scarce to find any, and this worker told us he will bring us he seemed so sweet and welcoming and knew we were upset …. He brang us on a 5 minute golf cart ride to the vip section to be harassed into buying an 11k timeshare , i just explained i was hungry and now i am left 20 mins walking distance from where i needed to be , when they realized we were not interested the customer service was out the window and u were treated horrible compared to the vip guests. This resort is completely segregated, vip is treated amazing and have so many options when the regular guests are treated horrible . This was my first time booking through trip central and i could honestly say it will be my last. I would highly not recommend cofresi palm resort to anyone !

The absolute worst service, Terrible hotel
We had the worst time during our stay! The staff are rude, had no consideration for patrons (my mother) with accessibility issues. We had the worst experience ever and would not return or recommend this hotel to anyone. Our group was over looked many times over the locals visiting on the weekend. Rude comments were made by staff as they didn't realize we spoke and understood Spanish. Tripcentral and Air transat should stop sending Canadaians there everyone on our flight was complaining! They even refused us dinner the day we were leaving, I had to beg for food for my diabetic mother and daughters, absolutely disgusting service

Don’t stay here
Save your money and book elsewhere! To make a long story short here are just a few highlights… took us over two hours to check in our keys didn’t work which took another half an hour to get into our room finally at 1:30am. The next morning we had absolutely no running water, our toilet didn’t work. They offered a new downgraded room or pay an extra $250 to upgrade or stay in our room and hopefully everything gets fixed. The next day we only had hot water then the following 5 days we had zero hot water only freezing cold. It’s no wonder there’s mold in the showers. The cleaning of the rooms was just making the beds and replacing the bathroom towels. Our floors got mopped once during the week. Not one day did we get the beach towels we were supposed to nor was our fridge restocked with water like it was supposed to be when we called the front desk as well as guest services they were rude and said they’d be sent to our room nothing ever came even though we called everyday. They try to rope you into a timeshare every time you turn around and won’t leave you alone no matter how many times you say no thank you I’m not interested. The beach was not raked and full of seaweed. I can go on and on but unfortunately I don’t have enough space. This is not a 4 star resort by far!

Great hotel for the money
The hotel was pretty decent. The rooms were a little outdated but we didn’t care because we were just in there to sleep and change. So many amazing pools to choose from. It’s nice that there are a lot of adult only pools to choose from as well. The entertainment staff are super friendly. There were games a few times a day and most could also be played by kids. There were shows every night and they were very entertaining. The people LOVED the baby we had with us! They would offer to hold him and play with him so we could all participate in games. Very kid friendly atmosphere! There’s a casino on site which also has complementary nachos and popcorn (which my daughter would as us to get her because they were so good!) The beach was nice, but so wavy we couldn’t really go out. Obviously not the hotels fault, but still a bummer. Lots of food selections for everyone. There were even a ton of options for us to give to our 7.5 month old who is just starting on solids! I would happily book at this hotel again.

The hotel was very clean, bathrooms, rest areas, beach area etc. The staff was very nice and engaging. The only issue we had was they allowed the locals to come on to the property for Easter weekend. They took over the place and they were very rude. I thought about it, and realized that goes on everywhere. I have never been to a hotel where they allowed the local people in.

Good for the money
lots of pros and cons about this resort. considering we paid less than 800 each, the trip was well worth it. food was decent although ala cartes were always booked up. tried to book rodizzo on the first night and it was booked for the entire week. the beach was small and secluded, and one end was perfect for snorkeling. wifi was pretty crappy, but you do get one hour a day for free. souvenirs, drinks, smokes etc are more expensive here than other countries like cuba or mexico, and although the sales people are really aggressive they dont like to negotiate. the resort is huge, with lots of stairs, but there is a shuttle running about every 15 mins and we never had a problem catching it. our room was kept clean and everything worked well. we were given 4 coors lites in our fridge as a welcome gift. freddy is a good rep and helped us book the paradise island tour, which is awesome, as long as you pay the extra for the catamaran, otherwise your just riding a motorboat to a sandbar. the vague septic smell is a real thing but didnt keep s from enjoying ourselves. we would go again

Appreciated that there was a host named Freddie for air transat. Shuttle to and from airport is all included. Cofresi staff were amazing and positive. No issues with our rooms or experience. Generally would say if you go with this hotel, book your a la carte meals early in the week to get a good reservation. Otherwise I enjoyed the performances and events at the lobby.

Ugh!
We have been here before so we knew what to expect in terms of the size of the resort, the large amount of stairs, the hustle and bustle of golf carts, motorbikes and buses and the run down rooms. However we were very disappointed with our visit this time. We booked for 14 days and half way through we were wishing it was time to leave. I’ll try and break it down into the good, the bad and the ugly. The amazing staff at the bars, restaurants and the entertainment staff. So many wonderful staff who go out of their way just to make you smile. Wilfredo was our absolute favourite bartender. He is such an amazing person even though we had a language barrier. The Pearl buffet offered a good variety of food. It did get a little repetitive after 14 days, but that’s to be expected haha. The staff serve you at the buffet and all self serve items like bread, buns, cheese are all Saran wrapped in individual servings. We also enjoyed the hamburger and fries down at the beach. I did get sick for 2 days and I’m assuming it was from the extremely undercooked bacon I had one morning. I only ate part of a slice because it was horrible - but was down for 2 days vomiting etc. The resort gets over run with locals from Friday - Sunday….and I mean over run. It gets to be quite overwhelming as some of them act like they are more entitled to be there than you, they are rude and will cut in line. We definitely enjoyed Monday - Thursday much more. Don’t even bother going to the casino unless you are VIP. They claim everyone is welcome, but that’s definitely not how you are treated when you walk in. We tried to get a drink and the bartender ignored us for about 5 mins while actively serving the other 3-4 people. Then when we finally got served you could see how irritated he was just serving us. I guess we weren’t high enjoy up the totem pole to warrant decent customer service. We stayed about 30 mins, left and never went back. We walked over to the Tropical one day just to check it out and look around. We tried to get down to the beach so we could walk back to Cofresi side but weren’t allowed access because you had to be VIP to access the beach. Like seriously, we just wanted to walk through to the beach. We weren’t trying to use the VIP area, bars or restaurants…just simply walk down the path to the water. Ridiculous! We literally had to struggle daily to get an adequate amount of drinking water!! Housekeeping would leave 2-3 500ml bottles and if we asked we sometimes got 1 extra. You could only get plastic cups of water at the bars/restaurants. We ended up saving our empty bottles and going down to the pool bar each day to fill them up. Getting sugar and cream so you could have a coffee in the room was also like pulling teeth. Some waitresses would give you sugar packs if you asked and we saw other people order a glass of milk and then pour into water bottle. Great idea but we didn’t notice that until near the end of our stay. If you want any snacks (chips, pop, chocolate) or need any items like Tylenol, tampons, cigarettes, beer ect we highly recommend walking 5 mins off the resort to the local store as you will pay WAYYY less than if you buy anything at the duty free shop that is grossly overpriced!! To get to the store, walk down the beach towards Ocean World, you will be able to tell when you are off resort as it gets pretty dirty with garbage ect. You will see a grassy open park like area - the store is directly across the road. Well worth the short walk for sure. My husband bough cigarettes at the duty free and paid $10 a pack, same pack at the local store was $5. Speaking of the duty free - when we were in there the lady working was visibly sick. She was coughing, sneezing, runny nose the whole works. She had a face cloth in the hand that she used to wipe her nose and never once put it down while serving us. Never sanitized her hands nor was she wearing a mask. Pretty disturbing while we still have covid lurking around. I understand that she may not be able to miss work but there were 2 other staff just hanging around leaning on the counter that could have served customers so she could be more behind the scenes. If you are looking for drugs or prostitutes just go to the front of the resort as they all hang out just off the resort property. My husband was literally approached by a prostitute 5 mins after we arrived while we were checking in. Not the best way to make people feel welcome lol. Overall, we were happy to finally travel after 2 years. We enjoyed to beautiful weather and relaxation, but we would not go back to this resort again. There was just too many negative points that we can’t overlook.

Great value!
Interesting place. It's giant resort. Like 4 different ones that you can access. The time share game is real here. They'll find you walking around and tell you they forgot to give your welcome package (it's to sell you a timeshare) just tell them you already got it. At the buffets, the cooks serve you, still in COVID mode I guess....oh and golf carts... Golf carts everywhere lol. You're basically sharing the resort with rich people who time share villas there so they're driving around all the time. All in all its a beautiful resort, the staff are very nice and friendly.would definitely consider coming back one day.
