ALL IN ALL IT was an amazing time everything was close clean and the people were amazing! We didn't stay at the Grand Cribe we were at Club Kawama!!! Staff were friendly and always had a smile Entertainment every night

The resort we stayed at had some amazing staff. The hotel grounds were well taken care of very well kept. The rooms could use a little TLC but overall I had an amazing time of sun amazing beaches and met a lot of nice people from all over the world. Thank you :)

The grounds kept well. The hotel is run down. The food was horrible in the main dining area and the smell in there was so bad. The Italian restaurant was pleasant. Most staff were friendly. The disco was fun but should be included. The pool is in poor condition but swimable. The beach was great.

This is the worst hotel I been in the 5 time that I been to Cuba the food was bad the service was bad they run out of plates and glasses no soup bowls , the beach was on the other side of the street the bars were not opened at the times they said .they run out beer sometimes they had no ice no more Vodka , and the rooms were terrible they look nothing like the picture they show online they have no keys for the safety deposit box in the room I will never stay there again

Location was excellent and the grounds fairly well maintained with good access to a beautiful beach Having said that the room was very basic, blankets and sofa upholstery was torn and should have been replaced Elevator was not clean, common area, pool and lobby washrooms were a disaster( filthy, no TP) There was no maintenance staff for upkeep Food, though basic, was enjoyable but the plates, cutlery and tablecloths in the buffet area were very unhygienic There should have been snack bars available at all times in the day Evening entertainment was passable What made the stay bearable was the staff and their friendly attitude, however, there should have been greater focus on cleaning

The SunBeach is not a luxury hotel, that we knew from the start - even before going. But, considering the price & the location, it was a 5 star vacation for us. Being return guests, we did get an ocean view room with balcony. What else can we ask for? (Oh yes, I would just ask that they clean the tables / tablecloths, a little better at the buffet & that would earn them one more star from me.) Thank you Dianne Abrey, your help was precious. This hotel is best suited for the easy going traveller. Everything was ok, not spectacular. The noise was a bit loud at night when trying to sleep. I’d recommend a higher level and a room away from the street traffic. Having said that, the grounds and beach were beautiful! Well worth the money we paid :)

Was great a had a good time good was not that good except for one night they had a pig roast that was great the cleaner was nice never did I have to worry able things going missing all the staff was nice and helpful the location is the best I will be back

Basic accommodations at an unbeatable price. Not luxurious by any stretch but bug free with comfortable bed. Buffet had a terrible stench but snack bar served decent sandwiches and lots of cheap local restaurants nearby. Can't complain- so close to the beach and local activities.

We are Russian and live in Toronto. ended up in this resort because brother and wife took trips here. Fortunately, I did not see a big difference from a five-star hotel, and the money savings are obvious. The only thing I would not advise is to sit in the lobby, because there are fleas in the armchairs that bit me. And everything else was cool

It is not for sure 3 star hotel They have problems with basic service like having ice , ,drinks ,spices, snacks,Small stuff which can be eazy fixed .If you ask they ignore you or tell you they will do it later.Never happen

We stayed at Sunbeach for 4 nights. Our room had a beautiful ocean view and it was very clean. This is a two star hotel and it shows it for the amenities offered, yet it was nice. The food in the buffet was ok. If it wasn't for the rude tourists that liked to stack up the dishes with food and therefore there was not much available for others after, it would have been more enjoyable. Seemed like these people were starving back in their country and went there to satisfy their hunger. That was annoying!. We had the opportunity to meet with the GM and Front Desk Manager, both very nice and professional ladies and shared our views with them. The staff in general was nice. The location is perfect for those who like to walk around and see locals. The market is right next door as well as other shops and restaurants (not part of the hotel) The beach is amazing, very clean and there are plenty of chairs for the hotel guests. Beach towels are offered in the hotel (for a fee). We also booked a Catamaran excursion with the Cubanacan Tour Desk in the hotel and it was amazing. Highly recommended this excursion!!

It's acceptable especially for a short vacation.people are friendly, honest,poor,contended and hard working. Reception should be more welcoming to first time new comers and give an explanation,to the procedures etc.instead of having to figure out things by themselves.

The day before I had been treated to an adventure that I'll never forget. Gran Caribe Sun Beach Hotel is the only place I'll ever stay when I go to Varadero; my reasons are simple, it's because of the people that I've come to know, the ones that I speak about in my poetry. Cuba has become my second home & these people are now my family. It's never 'goodbye' when I have to leave, it's always 'until next time'. My review is based on the hotels 2 star rating - I didn't expect more than that on arrival! I was there for a short time, April 5th to the 8th. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the lady at the front desk was cheerful and patient every time I saw her. The hotel and rooms are clean, very clean! I have been to higher rated hotels in Cuba that are not as clean. The food was not bad, it does get tiring after a couple of days as a vegetarian (Beans, Rice, Salad and Yams - repeat) but as a meat eater, my boyfriend enjoyed the food! Each meal was something different (Fish, Shrimp, Ham, Steak) at the grill! There was a different fish every day and quite an assortment of Salsa, hot sauces and salad dressings. The Snack Bar had only ham and cheese sandwiches, but you could always switch it up with a ham sandwich, or a cheese sandwich (lol). No fries or burgers. There is no 24 hours bar and each bar closes at certain times of the day. You'll have to walk to one of the 3 bars on the resort. The lobby bar will serve coffee and water all day, but alcoholic beverages only part of the day. The pool was beautiful and clean. It wasn't highly chlorinated either. The beach is just across the street of the resort, a 5 minute walk away. The sand was clean and there are no rocks. It was quite shallow for a way and there are sand banks about 20 meters out from the shore. At certain times of the day, fish nip at your feet! It was a trip, because you can't see their white scales against the white sand! The resort is located in the middle of town, there is a flea market on the right and a variety store on the left, just before the beach. If you walk farther down, you will find restaurants, bars and shopping, though we didn't go that far. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to the thrifty vacationer or someone who would like to experience Cuba. It was a good experience for me - though all I care about is a beach, some rum and a snack!

I enjoy every time I go back to this resort as for the staff I can never say I bad review..this is why I keep going back and still will be in the future.I love the location also the guests who are around to talk too.

Unfortunately i fell ill due to the unsanitary conditions. Other then that i very much enjoyed the beaches and peninsula. It seems the best way to eat is at restaurants outside the resort. Also my room did not get cleaned.

Wow where do I start?! First: They switched our hotel from what we booked at Gran Caribe Sun Beach to Gran Caribe Puntarena Playa Caleta because the elevators weren't working. When we arrived at MIDNIGHT the hotel Gran Caribe Puntarena Playa Caleta didn't know we were switched and they didn't have a room for us, in fact the receptionists exact words were "who told you that you could come here?". After standing at the reception desk for a long time they found us a room. Second let me tell you about the room: The door wouldn't open easily and you had to violently put your shoulder into it and force yourself in. The toilet would not flush properly or at times at all. The bed literally had spring poking out, the TV didn't even work and an exposed wire was hanging out for you to trip on. The bathroom sink didn't have a stopper so if you dropped something into the sink it was gone! We brought these issues to the front desk and the whole 7 days we were there nothing was changed or fixed. ( we didn't care much about the TV, but the other issues could have been addressed.) Third the food and drinks: The food is not great, it's tasteless and the alcohol is watered down. The bars were rarely stocked with anything (except Rum) so if you want a margarita, this hotel will not have it. The tables in the dining spaces were gross, their were stains on the table cloths which made you lose your appetite, the waiters would not approach you or bring you water if you didn't have tip to give them. Fourth the pool: the Pool bar was never open and the ones close to the pool were never stocked with anything. Overall our experience at Gran Caribe Puntarena Playa Caleta was absolute SHIT! Would not recommend you going, it's also pretty far from downtown Varadero. You can take a shuttle from the resort that only has two times a day that it leaves at 11 am or 3:30 pm. You will also need to change currency to CUC if you plan to spend money on anything, which you can either get from your resort or the bank (the bank requires your passport and will make you wait a good two hours). Although, the beach was right behind the resort, so if you're looking to just lay on the beach this is a good spot. For the price we paid, we may as well go somewhere else and pay just couple hundred dollars more for a MUCH better experience and time.

Originally booked for SunBeach, but because both elevators were under repair we were offered our 7 night stay at this resort. It was not in the location we had preferred. (it required a taxi to get to the end of the line for the bus) but it had a number of things we appreciated. On the beach is the best part. The sun chairs behind the Caleta building were in terrible shape, compared to those behind the Puntarena. We had our choice of two main restaurants (one in the Puntarena building and the other in the Caleta building. Originally this was two separate resorts.) The food selection was really great. We have been to other 2.5 and 3 Star hotels and this was by far the best we have had. Unfortunately, the food was always lukewarm as there was no hot water under the metal food trays. The wait staff were very friendly. I had noticed that no one else seemed to be leaving a tip at the tables (a practice we have done on every trip) I was told that basically it was the Canadians who tipped. The majority of the clients were from Russia and "they never tip". I found the same thing with the house cleaning staff. We tipped and left gifts but other nationalities did not. The rooms were bright, included balconies (some hotels do not) and cleaned well every day. The pools were beautiful as were the grounds. Well cared for.

I was transferred from Gran Caribe downtown to Puntarena because the elevators weren't working. At Puntarena, only 1 elevator was working. The food was good but you get tired eating the same food everyday. I couldn't swim because there was a tornado. It got better only 2 days before I left. The $5 bus hop in hop off to downtown doesn't pass here. You had to pay $5 for a taxi to take you where the hopin hop off double decker. So to go downtown Varadero you had to pay $15. Or negotiate with a taxi driver to take you downtown.

The hotel is old, and in need of repair. Our room was clean but the toilet seat was covered in urine so we had to clean that up, the beds were so uncomfortable you could feel every spring in the mattress. The door to the room one had to kick to open as it was stuck all the time. On the 3rd the alarm for the elevator went on and off every 1/2 hour this went on for three days. I told them at the desk and all I got was we know. The fire alarm went off and the fire alarm on our floor was broken looked like it had been nearly pulled off the wall. I went to close the window in the bathroom and nearly pulled the window frame totally out of the wall. I went down stairs and some one rushed up stairs and fixed the window. Finally after 3 days of the alarm going on and off that got fixed. The second elevator didn't work most of the time so we only had one elevator. Food unbelievable awful. Either it was over cooked or under cooked, the chef would cook on a big burner and fill the room full of smoke. Fish which is one of my favorite foods was so over cooked I couldn't cut it with a knife. No butter for bread, no salt, no milk or cream for coffee and tea. The juices orange if we got it and grapefruit was watered down. The food was the same most of the time. No real variety the rice was under cooked the potatoes were cold most of the food was just warm. The scrambled eggs were terrible. At the bar the last few days no water, I had to buy water meaning I had to go to the counter where on registered to ask for a chit and pay for the water then take the chit to the bar and be given water. The bar ran out of coke which I didn't care but many did. I would never go back to the hotel and I definitely would not recommend the hotel. The staff in the dinning room were very nice and so were the staff who cleaned the room. At the bar some were fab others were not so nice. the furniture in the "lounge" most of the seats were broken or you sunk do far down that it was difficult to get out of the chairs. We had only on small towel in the room and had to go to the pool staff for a towel. At the end of the stay we gave the towel back and got our chit to show we returned the towel. If we didn't we would have to pay 10 dollars.

The resort was handy to walk around Varadero or go to the beach. Beach was just steps away with a lifeguard on duty. Lounge chairs and cabanas were available. The pool at the resort was clean and had enough lounge chairs for everyone. Staff were friendly. Down side food was not good. Ran out of milk salt pepper ,no butter available or ketchup or mustard. Lobby bathrooms no toilet seats, toilet paper ,soap or paper towels. Bottled water had to be purchased 2 at a time with paperwork from front desk. Tipped our maid well room cleaned better extra TP general cleaning of resort hit and miss. Windows doors etc. not maintained, no more than 3 in elevator or alarms went off. We only paid 500.00CND. We got what we paid for. Area was good nearby restaurants good and reasonable.

My wife and I have been to Cuba 11 times We've stayed at Sun Beach probably 5 of those times.its not a 5 star.hotel but the staff are.Genuine people make the difference.weve been to 5 star before people expect to much.we eat half our meals here the rest everywhere else.Lai L'ai. and FM17 corner bar are the 2 favorites to chill or dine.Maria Harris at trip central keeps us up to date with smokin deals and hotel or parking suggestions I'd rate her service at 5 Star!

The Hotel is in a great location..but..it has seen better days. The resort is definitely showing its age. The staff overall is very friendly and helpful but very few speak English which can be difficult to get information. The cleanliness of the resort needs definate improvement. All the window need to be washed desperately. Coming down the stairs all you smelt were stinky dirty washrooms and the urinal was full to the top for days with no paper in either washroom. The elevators didnt function properly and also haven't been cleaned for months. But if your in Varadero on a budget and want to be close to the beach and business section then Sunbeach would be a good choice..

I have been earlier in this hotel and was far better than this time. It was horrible place: no water in toilet, no water pressure, only one light in room, one electric socket working in entire room, rusty bath, no balcony, not to mention room maid wasn’t coming for 3 first days...list is really long. Not to mention I paid this vacation 1475$ Please don’t let this terrible experience repeat to anyone else.

Rooms were average and not the best, not enough hot water and beds were very unpleasant looking but you get what you pay for. Food was mostly repetitive but some of the grill options were amazing, a lot of variety and very healthy and yummy options to choose from as well as the location of the resort is amazing! Its close to everything there are free drinks anytime which are amazing. Staff is so sweet and friendly. Everything was close to perfect! Must go if u are on a budget but still want a great vacation

The beach is really nice has its own private beach bar. A lot of rude russians some were nice people but this is mainly a russian resort - but seems like canadians get good service. it's what you should expect of a 2 1/2 star resort. Buffet was normally alright not great but edible most nights they served chicken and beef on the grill and pasta with tomato soup as sauce or white sauce, rice, fresh bread, , cut up sausage ect Sometimes they would grill turkey Or liver..for breakfast they made omelets toast pancakes and on the occasion french toast, cut up sausages , ect The a la cart pizza was really good but it was about an hour and a half wait from the time you sit down to the time you're served food. between buffets the snack bar makes hamburgers and grilled ham sandwiches - again foods so/so ( ask for burgers well done). The rooms weren't bad cleaned everyday a/c worked great bed we're comfortable enough and clean, make sure to ask for a room with a working safe! even numbered rooms have balconies (that are normally flooded from the A/C) the rooms had okay water pressure and warm enough water all the time,they were upgrading the tvs to flat screens from the top floor to the bottom they had yet to do the 3rd floor down.( my tube tv worked but was nearly impossible to change the channels found a good movie channel and left it on there for the week) our maid was nice left some gifts for her! we never had any issues or anything go missing bars stop serving at 1am and don't serve liquor until 10am bar service is iffy , sometimes can take 10 minutes to get a drink and is easier just to go to the next bar for better service then waiting around (especially if they're doing their paper work) - Bring a big cup for drinks!! we had one server tell us we we're his worst enemy at the pool bar because we we're talking to his "girlfriend" - told us to only talk to him for a drink - worst service I've had in cuba by far in my life.. but besides that still had a great time, not a great resort but its in a great location , we met lots of cool people that made the trip right in downtown varadero , scooter rentals across the road , has its own private beach and bar worth if if you can go cheap - maily a russian resort though.

Great get a way, if your looking for fun in the sun .Excellent beach with a beach bar close by.Food was pleasantly surprizeing .Service could be improved on but the price was good and you should expect what you pay for.Friendly atmosphere and great central location to the town

Everything is good considering the hotel is two 🌟 ,dining is good, but the hotel needs repairs and paint. The price is good too. The room is clean but very poor . The room hasn't phone, control tv , dry hair. I don't know what can I say because for me was cheaper and I feel good.

Decent hotel if your ok with limited food selection and slow service. Buffet would not open till at least 15min after posted time. Check in was slow and slower at fixing problem. However my room was spacious and kept very clean. Fair value for price paid. Varadero beach cannot be beat

Before booking my stay here, I read a lot of bad reviews so I was nervous. However, I can honestly say me and my boyfriend had a great time. Of course there were cons but over all we had a lot of fun!

The location of Sun Beach is excellent. That is near downtown of Varaledo and the beach. The room and facilities are too old. only one elevator works for all visitors, and the towels were not changed every day.

You get what you paid for. Can find a very good deal on this hotel. If all you need is sun and beach it is a perfect place to go. Re everything else, do not expect much. Cockroaches in the room, there was water outage once which was fixed in a few hours, not enough glasses, forks in the dining room, the food was ok, not much variety though, no bottled water provided in the room but can be purchased at the hotel 2 bottles of 0.5 l each for 1 CUC. Now pros: The beach was great!! Lots of fun activities at the pool as well. Good customer service. The room cleaning staff was amazing. I would go again if I get a deal even better than I got when I went there for the first time.

When we 1st arrived we had to wait for our room..we had someone help us put our bags away while we waited and he was amazingly helpful. We past our time enjoying the property which was nice and comfortable. When the time came for our room to be ready we where told not yet. Again we went back at the said time and the woman at reception was getting ready to give us our room and the man stopped her and told us to wait again. So our 1st '2 to 3 hour' wait turned into almost 5 hours which was getting annoying after long flights. The 2nd day we lost warm water and took a few days to get back. The majority of the staff where amazing and helpful. Now the bad part...many guests where tremendously rude and ignorant. Pushy and budging into us no respect towards other guests or the staff. It was hard to be witness sometimes. Would I go back to this hotel. Possibly. This being my 1st time in Cuba I can say I had a wonderful time and ejoyed myself as the vacation I needed!!!

The resort was in a nice area but the service was to desired the cleanliness was very bad and the elevator was out of order we were not offered a discount or anything to compensate for that while sunwing did give a refund of 90 dollars and a bottle of rum we got nothing I would think twice about going back there

Only complaint was the fact that the dining room is far too small for the number of guests. Always a lineup regardless whether it is for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Even gets worse if weather is not good and guests stay on the resort

Although the grounds were clean the hotel lacked one major reason for going to Cuba. That is security. This place was taken over by hoards of guests who were allowed to do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted. I liken it to Animal House. Broken windows, passed out urinating drunks, drunks banging on hotel doors at all times. Total take over. Not a quiet place to be found anywhere. I will never book like this again. Ruined vacation. Two weeks of hell for me. Do you not visit these hotels before you list them?

The rooms were clean, the maid (Yunni) was super thurough everyday and very sweet. The food was plentiful (if a bit bland and heavy on pork dishes). Our lunch and dinner waiters were very attentive and the grill cook was great at his job and sweet to my daughter. The bartenders were courteous and happy to refill my daughter's non-alcoholic slurpee over and over, something her 5yr old heart adored lol. The pool was clean and there were a fair amount of chairs around it for lounging. It's a short walk to the beach where there's free watersports like kayaks and paddle boats. Watch for the red flags on the beach. (Red flags are put up by the lifeguards to signify that there are too many jellyfish for it to be safe to swim that day) Which realistically isn't the hotel's fault, and I appreciated their caution and that they let people know when it's safe (green flag) and when to be cautious (orange flag)

It was my first trip in my life, due to lack of travel experience, I booked Gran Caribe Sun Beach without reading the reviews and looking at the photos people posted at tripadvisor.ca. Few days after booking the trip, I started viewing the reviews and photos people posted about this hotel. I was shocked and very sad about my decision to choose this hotel (the ranking for the hotel is 59 out of 64!!!!! and food poison!!!).In order to have the best travel experience for my family and myself, I have to pay additional $869.72CAD and book a better hotel. The fees I paid for Gran Caribe Sun Beach is nonrefundable that makes me very sad. So, please read the reviews and view the photos carefully before you book a hotel.

Gran Caribe Sun Beach Cuba Hotel - Varadero, Cuba This was my second time to Cuba. This hotel is rated as a 2 star which is highly exaggerated as it is a 1 star at best. The place has been ignored and in dire need of repairs and new management. Travel Counsellors should not be recommending this hotel even if it is a great deal: - Most of the hotel staff were not happy, were rude, hardly smiled and did not want to help you. They ignored me when I asked for things at reception, the bar and or in the restaurant, despite speaking to them in Spanish. These are not the typical friendly Cuban people I met in the past. - Management/reception staff ignored my requests (3x) to fix my leaking ceiling in the bathroom. All they did was mop up the floor once. Never even offered to move me to another room. The room was never made up or sheets changed. - Long line ups and refusing people entry at the main restaurant during all meal times. They closed the doors even though there were empty tables. They never washed or changed the table cloths. The staff simply could not keep pace, often running out of plates and utensils. Coffee machine didn't work well. - The pizza in the pizzeria restaurant was horrible - Cockroaches in the restaurant and bathrooms - A 24-hr bar that served coffee, pop and hard liquor but no beer. You could get beer at any of the other 2 bars until 6pm, or 1am. - No possibility of getting food after the main restaurant closed at 9:30 pm, as there was no 24hr snack bar. - Deck Chairs were locked up at sunset. - Location of hotel was far from the action in the town. Stayed: Xmas 2017  Rooms - 0 Cleanliness - 0 Service - 0 Perfect for those who are cheap, have very low standards and like to drink, smoke and party.

What a place lousy cold food at the buffet. Elevator not working. Rude staff. And to busy on their cell phones to serve you. Cockroaches on the steam/buffet table with food.. silverwhere was cleaned in a bucket of dirty water at server station in dining area. No salt or pepper in entire dining room.Ran out of coffee at breakfst. To get a plate at buffet you had to waite 10 minutes . Then find out it is dirty. Cold food when it came out of kitchen. Only plus good location and maid service was good but then we tipped.

Location is good ,, good staff ,,average food ,, too much waiting for elevator , reception staff some are very good ,, some little fussy to deal,, 3 bars good , disco on 12th floor is plus point,, Like Pena, Ruben and Cenia in restaurant

We were there for the beach and the sun; that was awesome! The hotel was very old and run down but livable...the food was ok (not great but we survived; it's Cuba)...the people working there were mostly great! You get what you pay for and we didn't pay much...I liked being right in Varadero and close to everything...

It wasn't the first time on this property, I thought I knew what I was getting into, but it was worst than what I had in May this year. The food and the service were horrendous; cold food on the hot tables,(never turned on, high food poisoning risk), never enough food, only for the first ones to show early. I have to change rooms after 3 days because the door look was deactivated and there was no staff on site to fix it, Instead the have a young man risking his life accessing the room from the next door balcony on a six floor.

Very good costumer service, the restaurant was booked over its capacity, the only one elevator for 9 floors was not working properly. The building needs maintenance too humid, does not have proper ventilacion

Stay away from this resort Food: has flies all over it You will loose soooo much weight Rooms: they r okay our ac worked others didn't The room makers won't give you towels or bedsheets unless you tip them. Everyone tries to hustle that peso from you Staff: act very nonchalant unless you pull out a peso then they are all smiles There is a black entertainment lady who tells everyone a story about her mom with cancer and her two sisters, which we find out wasn't true. She does that then asks you for your clothes for her sisters and the next day she will be wearing them around the hotel. Advice: if you can't stand the food the is a pizza shop on like 12 Calle just go there we had to survive on that and it was very affordable the staff over there was much more friendly. Just STAY AWAY from the resort. When it rains water drops from ceiling down everywhere. If you have a hard time with stairs stay away from this hotel. The elevator is broken 97% of the day.

The pool needs serious upgrades, elevator stopped working a couple of times throughout the week we were there. As with anywhere you travel; some of the staff were friendly, courteous, and helpful....others not so much. Location I found too smoggy therefore would choose not to stay in town in the future. However met alot of great people, went dancing at the downtown nightclubs (pro about staying in town),and had a blast! The food was healthy, loved the restaurant staff.

I love this hotel it's located downtown varadero with a all inclusive has to offer. You can't expect much for a 3 star the food was okay for Cuba and nothing really fancy like a 5 star would have. The staff where fun and very nice. Sometimes the elevators did not work and we did have hot water the whole time which was nice. The rooms were not the nicest but the beds we had where new and comfortable. I like that you can go to all sorts of clubs at night and you don't have to stay at the resort all the time. You are close to a lot of restaurants that are cheap and are very good. You can mingle with the Cubans at night in all the clubs. The beatles club is more so for Canadian s however we took some cubans there and they loved it. The Karaoke club on 44 is a must go. Beach by day and party by night is all I have to say. Loved it been there 12 times already.

We had a great time. Our 10th trip to Cuba...first time at Sun Beach. So...our expectations are just that - we will have a great time. Lots of good to say about Sun Beach...the location is excellent (proximity to the beach, the on & off bus, walking distance to all downtown Veradero)....roomy restaurant and reception area.....lovely clean pool.....spacious room and tiled bath (Room 724)...clean and comfortable.....and access to 3 bars. The food was tasty with good variety. When hot food trays were empty one had to be patient for others to be brought out. Likewise for plates and cutlery. There were no teaspoons - glad I had brought some along! Some staff were excellent - others looked right through us. The bar in the reception area (coffee here too) had line ups 8-10 long because there was only one person working it. Even if I only wanted water, he/she could serve only one person at a time, ignoring everyone else while coffee dripped. I guess multitasking is not a Cuban word. The female working the pool bar (only place to get beer from 10am to 6) came across as rude. She should try to be subtle about her gum chewing - she was like a cow, chewing its cud. The restaurant could use a maitre'd to keep the waiters on their toes and to enforce the "no barefeet, no shirtless" rules. Tourists could use a lesson on being appropriately dressed. The signs are there but no one to enforce. Evening entertainment was performed by some hard-working talented young people. The male singer has an excellent voice (missed the magic show) but there was little variety. We saw the same performers three of the three nights we attended. If you have mobility issues then this is not the hotel for you. The elevator was "iffy". It worked for about 4 of our 8 days there. There are 8 floors and no rooms on the 1st floor. (102 steps to the 7th floor) We would go back - always looking for new cardio opportunities, ate more than we should have, the cervasa was cold and abundant and the 3 s's were present - sea, sand and sun - all warm and comfortable. The price was right too.

Service was hit and miss, the food was pretty good, but warm at best. The nightly entertainment was great, especially the dancers. The beach was beyond beautiful. For the price, this is not a bad resort, but keep in mind it is a 2.5 star. We had a blast and just laughed off the little things like only one elevator worked, there are a few tiles missing in the pool, and it was hard to get to the tiki hut at the correct time to get a burger or hotdog.

The front desk were not friendly The coffee machines were broke most of the time never had any hot water.the pool was nice,to many locals hanging around,no bottle water in my room had to go to the bar and they only gave tap water.they were 2 prostitution lady's going around the pool area giving there room number.

Problems with the elevators almost daily, staff not as friendly as they were last year as I think that they are low on staff and have to take care of the same amount of guests. Maids are fantastic, if don't like the food at the resort there are other places to get great food within walking distance. Some of the staff expect tips and will serve the guests that tip before you even though you were in line first. Overall if you can get a good deal on this resort the beach is beautiful and most staff are great!! Very disappointed in some of the Canadians who go there treating the staff like they are at there beck and call, and throwing their garbage all over the resort and in the pools. French Canadians are very disrespectful as well!!

The hotel has been run down since our last stay. The staff are quite friendly with the exception of one lady at the front desk. The entertainment was just mediocre and daily activities could use some work. The buffet always had something that was good and the chef that cooked breakfast and lunch was great. Overall we would stay again as we go for the sun and ocean.

This place is a complete dump!! Ruined our vacation! People working there were very unfriendly , unless they saw a nice tip! Disgusting! Would never in a lifetime go back ! The only thing that saved us was the beautiful beach! Everyone we met was complaining about food and rooms!!!

I actually went on this trip on my own and at first I was a little nervous but once you get there everyone is very welcoming. It didn't take long until I started meeting people and learnt that there are quite a few lonely travelers. Both old and young, everyone was there to have a good time. Hotel was also great, AC actually worked, had warm water and over all it was clean. Have no complaints...

Just returned was there from 10-18 Feb 2017. Overall it was more than what we expected because of all the negative reviews we read. I been to various stars and places in Cuba total of 16 times. I am not fussy, if your looking for a cheap trip with clean comfy bug free bed, beautiful beach and decent food this is the place for you. I will start with the negitive; bar service; at the lobby and pool was very poor even when you tip. Bar by beach was excellent. Positive; Rooms; AC- worked very well, always had hot water and good water pressure which is important for me since I have long thick hair, cleaning staff done a great job every day. Food; it's Cuba always could find something to eat. Beach: is amazing and only across the street. Location of hotel: perfect, waking distance to restaurants ( I highly recommend the Chinese), market, stores ect..

We have been to Varadero many times and stayed at different Hotels (different star ratings) and were always able to deal with the problems or food situation, but this time...NO WAY....The elevator worked half of the time...luckily we were on the 3rd floor..but imagine the people on the 8th floor!!!. The rooms and hotel are dated (but we are ok with that, we don't come here to stay in our room..(no tv remote in the room though) Most of the staff seamed uninterested in the guests and in helping them (a few exceptions: lifeguards at the beach and our cleaning lady...but I think that it helped that we tipped her well and gave her a bunch of stuff). We are used to mediocre food here...we get it...but this was really really bad...we survived off of toast and eggs in the morning and ended up eating out most of the time (pumpkin and green beans for breakfast...yum). Most of the time, you couldn't get a seat at the buffet, when you did, you had to go scavenging for plates, napkins (only 1 per person), bowls, cups, etc. 1 coffee maker (broken half the time, one toaster (you had to put your bread through twice), line-ups for everything and not a manager in site to see the chaos...people would run to the clean plate cart as soon as it was brought out and grabbed everything like vultures...what a show...I had never seen this before! Obviously the beach was amazing (thank god!) but we will NEVER return here and do not recommend this place to anyone, they do not seem to care about the guest at all (I had never felt that before in Cuba) some were rude (lady bartender at the pool bar). We saw tons of guest upset about the service (or lack of it)..constant screaming at the staff by guests, plates smashed. a lady was locked out of her room on the 4th floor and was feeling ill (she was having a panic attack).the cleaning lady say she couldn't let her in and told her to go downstairs....imagine that...we ended up helping her (reprogramming her card) only to find out that the lock was jammed...so we went back down to get help. They came up 25 minutes later (we took the lady to our room so she could lay down....(nobody was helping her still). They finally ended up fixing the lock (with a nail file) and she was able to enter her room almost 1 hour later....She was never seen by a medic that the hotel is suppose to have. We were told many other horror stories during our stay (no toilet seats, no hot water)..hopefully these guests will also review the hotel! Some people paid alot of money to stay here...poor them....I got a so so deal, but it was not worth it at all.....NEVER AGAIN Room Tip: Don't go, but if you already booked ask for a room with a balcony on a low enough floor (remember, the elevators don't work very often!)

Been here a few times, its a basic resort close to All THE action of THE locals and beautiful beaches. Most rooms have ocean view which is nice, the food is ok I guess I don't like any Cuban food though. I personally will only stay at this resort in Cuba because it's clean I know the staff is trustworthy and close to everything.

Visited same 10 years ago and was great...Now run down and hurting. Room 802 clean and comfortable. Room housekeeping great! That's about it. Elevators working 2 out of 8 days and us on the 8th floor. No hot water for whole 8 day stay! Bars constantly out of ice. Beer cold but pesky 8 oz glasses Public toilets beyond belief...dirty and only one "usable device" in each. Food mediochre and constant wait for dishes, mugs, glasses and cutlery often not clean and I mean old food on utensils. We had food borne sickness on the last 2 days and were careful, go figure. Specialty restaurant...awful!! Italian.....avoid at all costs. Beach great and beach bar the best. Came for Sun, drinks, and beach, for the price we got what we paid for.

As per a lot of other reviews, you should be aware that you get what you pay for. Be prepared to walk 8 flights of stairs everyday, and be chased down if you take a coffee cup to your room. The staff seems overworked and struggle to be happy. All that said, we made the most of it and enjoyed pancakes and eggs every morning. Then left for the day and night to adventure through the town streets. Hopped in and out of restaurants and bars, and enjoyed a quick stroll to the beach daily. Keep good company and the state of the resort shouldn't bother you too much. I've travelled to Cuba 10 times. My hubby and I are both under 40. We would not return to this particular hotel but we did enjoy our vacation. The Vicaria is a restaurant a couple blocks down that was top notch and we ate the best authentic Cuban food there once a day (and once, twice a day) :). Again, this resort, you get what you pay for and in the end, the beer is always good.

Clean resort and very safe. A variety of dishes is offered to accommodate any diet (meat eaters, seafood lovers, vegetarians, and vegans) and the food is fresh and abundant. Excellent coffee and espressos. Polite staff. EXCELLENT location! Being closer to the end of the beach strip, you are the last to be picked up and the first to be dropped off when taking buses to any tours or to the airport. (This is a bonus and can save you a lot of time!) The resort isn't on the beach but it is a quick walk away (30 seconds). The street that separates the resort from the resort's private beach is not busy at all and cars will always stop for you at the crosswalk. I was hesitant at first when I found out that the hotel was not on the beach but, when I saw the layout in person, I was really glad I didn't let it stop me from staying at this hotel because it was completely a non-issue. Plus, there is a bar and free restaurant on the beach itself so you don't have to walk back to the resort for food/drinks. The beach itself is very, very well kept. During the day there are three hotel staff working at the same time (security, lifeguard, and the groundskeeper) and they do an excellent job keeping the hotel's beach clean and safe. As for the beach itself - it is beautiful. Gorgeous crystal-clear blue water, sugar-white sand, fun waves (in the winter season), and lots of sun but lots of shade available, too. Overall, I don't see how you can ask for more from a 3-star hotel, especially for this price. In response to negative reviews for this resort - it depends what your aim of the trip is. Is it to spend time out on the beach/pool, explore Cuba, stroll the streets of Varadero, etc.? Or to be pampered in a hotel? If it's the former (like it was for me), this hotel and price is perfect. I would definitely come again.

The hotel was very inviting from front desk, to housekeeping to the restaurant servers and the animation team. They made us feel at home especially my son. They went out of their way to see that we got coconut water, fresh pinna colada made. The drinks there were always in abundance. There was enough to eat around the clock even at midnight when we searched around for sandwiches and got some. The security guards took a minute or so to kick a ball around with my son. He thought they were FIFA players. The room was spacious, clean and always had an invigorating hot shower at the end of the day. My son spent a lot of time in the pool especially since there was a basketball net in there. The beach had rolling waves which proved to be a lot of fun for us both. We enjoyed the resort.

So I personally would never go back to this particular resort , this is my 4th time at @31-/2 stars and this was for sure a 2, elevator was more not working than yes, room key 9 out of 10 wouldn't work so had to use stairs 6 floors , more importantly , lobby washrooms , pool side washrooms , No toilet paper !! Buffet seriously was no choices , very small and not much to choose from, thankfully they made fresh eggs every morning and always had pasta , that's what we ate most days , thankfully it's safe to walk the streets so we found places to eat outside the resort , Beach was outstanding , rooms were old but must say we're clean , Again would not recommend

Realize this is not a 5 star!....so with that in mind it is great for location, staff is friendly, beach is stunning, and it is close to markets, resturants and entertainment! The rooms are clean, and the dining area and lobby are kept nice. For the price ot is well worth it.

I found the hotel rooms to be clean and well kept. Considering the hotel is under construction, the grounds are well kept and the staff were friendly. I would use these accommodations again. l was quite surprised the food was quite good as well as the entertainment.

Fresh food. Cold ac. Clean. Good drinks. Great location, close to the beach, shops, restaurants, bars, and discos. Some very friendly staff. And some extremely unfriendly staff. I have been 2 times great value.

The hotel was about what I'd expect from a 2-3 star resort so I don't regret having stayed there for the price. Our room, while in need of some repairs like the rest of this older hotel, was always clean and despite what other reviews we read before we left, we always had fresh towels and bathroom supplies daily. As usual, frequent small tips do go a long way in terms of better service. The pool and grounds were generally well maintained and the entertainment was better than expected. Food was available throughout the day, but unfortunately the quality of most of the food was disappointing, particularly in the dining area where most meals are served. The snack bar, which is open at specific times had a kitchen that could make sandwiches, burgers and omelettes so we tried to eat there instead when possible. The Italian restaurant was an exception and the food there was very good, though you need to reserve a spot each time. The language barrier at the hotel was greater than I expected and while most of the staff tried their best, there were several times, particularly when trying to get information from reception, where we were simply told to come back later, presumably so somebody else could deal with us instead. One thing to be aware of is the fact that most places will only accept cash and while the hotel will exchange big bills for smaller ones and change, there is no place at the hotel to get money out with a bank or credit card. The nearest ATM was a few hotels down the strip and the nearest bank, which offers lower fees than ATM withdrawals, was about a twenty minute walk away and open only to 3pm, so that's something to keep in mind. While wi-fi access is not available in most places, the hotel apparently did have wi-fi but we could never connect to it. To use the internet you can purchase access cards from reception and if you can't connect with your own devices there are two computers available for guests to use, though they are extremely slow and used up a lot of our minutes just waiting for them to connect. The best part about the hotel, in my opinion, is its location. It is right across the road from the beach, which is well maintained and staffed and there are lots of merchant booths and restaurants in the area. The other hotels further up the peninsula might be nicer, but they are also more isolated, which may be good or bad depending on what you're looking for out of your vacation. The first few days after we arrived we had a lower opinion about the hotel, but the service improved throughout the week so it is very likely that they were under-staffed or impacted by hurricane Matthew which was hitting the east coast of the country when we arrived so this review is based on the days when the hotel was more functional and overall I don't regret having stayed here for the price.

The hotel is overall good. It s a relatively old hotel that needs some maintenance. The food was OK with a good variety. The entertainment every night was great. close to residential areas and shops. staff overall are friendly.

The hotel is in a good location. However the service is slow, and the food leave alot to be desirlo. Basically the same menu items. The good food was in the pizzeria where you would have to make reservations. However, you could but food and it was very good and cheaper. The rooms were ok. The water was good, presente was decent, the bathroom had a water leak. The air conditioning was week. The best was ok, maybe to low to the grounds. The poor was very nice but the chemicals they use made it look a weird geeen calor. This hotel is central so it is decent if you just wants to get away. But if you want a five star experience this place is not it. I would say else where. But the stuff are amazing but they are overworked.

I do keep in mind that this is a 2 * resort. But there is no need for it to be dirty. I did not think of this when I booked it. But because it is a cheap resort, the people that are there are more trashy group. (Not being mean or rude. Its just a fact. I wish I would have thought of this befor we went.) Mind you our room was very clean. Just the public areas were dirty. (Washrooms ,pool) the lift is rotten and very dangerous they need to fix it before someone gets seriously hurt. The front desk wanted to hold my pass port for 24 hr. I had an argument to keep it my self. Service was very unfriendly. We had one worker ask us for our shoes at the buffet, we said no. She walked us over to the table. I had to ask for cutlery that same server came back and she thrown the cutlery at us. We were both in disbelief. great weather.

front desk people rude. rude,rude!!! would not even look up when we went to speak to them! the food and service were barely passable. if you like bikers,this is the place for you. in full leathers and colors on their bikes around the pool deck and in the lobby as well. we also got to watch the biker mama pluck her eyebrows while sitting sipping her espresso in the front lobby!!!tacky tacky!never again!!

Hotel is in need of some repairs but clean. Pool and beach were great food was a good variety every day Elevator broke down twice but was fixed quickly .there is a great flea market just around the corner of the resort and they also have some great local bars just a short walk from the resort

Couldn't be happier! Moncton, Cuba flight direct 2.5 star hotel are the best! People that go there are well aware at what to expect and not very difficult to go to. So we went and dropped or suitcase into the room, rented a car and traveled down to Vinales and up to Cayo Jutias both paradise that you should go in the world. A big thank you to the staff at trip central and Air transat.

I was there from March 22th to 25th.This was my first time to travel by myself. It was safe and very welcoming.The lobby was great for all drinks.I meet so many people from Cuba.My new family. The beach was beautiful.

I read so many reviews about this hotel and a lot of bad ones. I am glad i did not take them into consideration. We went for the week of April 4th 2016 and the hotel was very decent,the room was clean, the bedsheets were clean and we had an ocean view room! The service was great. The food in the buffet was actually pretty good! Better than the Iberostar in Varadero. My only advice is bring your own facecloth and a beach towel cause sometimes they run out. And lastly this hotel is all about location location location! Best location in Varadero.

This is more an old hotel trying to be a resort. It has some positive and some negative aspects but if you get a great deal and want to use this hotel as a base of travel to see a bit of Cuba (as we did) then you will be OK. Food is not bad for Cuba and the staff are hit and miss. The beds are not very good (ask for room 816, best on the resort). Buy your own booze and mix as they don't have any variety at all.

We had another great trip to the Grand Caribe Sunbeach. This is a no frills hotel located in downtown Varadero. It was our third stay in the hotel and this year I'm happy to report that our room was clean, our lovely housekeeper Judy gave us fresh towels and did a wonderful job of keeping our room spotless. The food had improved since last visit (the toaster is now fixed - yay) so that was a pleasant surprise. The location of this hotel is great because if you choose to dine out some evenings there are lots of good, inexpensive restaurants nearby. The cons for our visit this time was the presence of lots of virile cats (that were in heat - not pleasant) roaming around in the lobby and in the gardens outside. The staff did try to take control of the situation but from a sanitary point of view this needs to be corrected. The other con was the constant influx of Cuban visitors staying at the resort. The staff cater to them and ignore the other tourists. It used to be that this happened on weekends only but this year it happened all week long and was quite frustrating when trying to get bar or food service. Overall a good trip and we found that Osmandy (Manager on the front desk) continued to be extremely helpful and customer service focused.

We are a family of 4 with 2 children - boy 7, girl 16. They don't allow more than 3 people per room so we had to get 2 rooms. We all stayed in the same room and used the second for extra showering, bathroom, napping, sleeping etc. Don't expect a 4 star because you will be disappointed. We went with low expectations and although we were surprised by how run down the place was, our rooms were clean and that is the most important thing to me. Yes the rooms are dated and the furniture old and rickety, the bathrooms we had were renovated and very nice. Ask for an even number room if you want a balcony, there is always so much to watch outside. We were facing the street at the end of the entrance and got to watch guys playing stick ball every night. We went for long walks and felt totally safe, do make sure and do the orientation because Kenia has very good information and can answer any questions. People who say the food is no good, that is just their opinion. I found the food to be fine, some of it very good (chicken skewers, fried rice, plantain chips etc.). The good thing about the buffet is that each meal they offer something new. Be warned that because there are 2 grills in the buffet, you will be sweating. If you don't like to try new things there is something for everyone even bland plain white rice, salad, fish etc. Be prepared to wait in lines most of the time and you are waiting "Cuban Time". There are 4 bars, lobby, pool, snack bar and beach all of which you can wait in a line or get there at the right time and not have to wait, there are ebbs and flows to it all. The beach is a short short way across the street and there are lots of lizards in the grass off the path and on the rock walls. They were a treat for all of us. I hate public washrooms and never used these because my husband said the mens was disgusting. Don't be surprised if there is no toilet seat (at all) in your room we had one in the room we stayed in and non in the other. I was most impressed with the nightly shows. The dancers were great, the costumes colorful, the music upbeat etc. On 2 different nights we played a game where the announcer asks "Name the song, name the singer?". It was so much fun! If you got it wrong you had to give up your sandal. I won't give away anything else but the whole family played and we had a ball. There are snacks at the snack bar, ham & cheese grilled sandwiches, pizza, hots & hams. They often run out and you will wait a long time to get your food. They have one person cooking in front of you and they only make 1 thing at a time on demand. I found that most of the employees don't speak English very well, so they may get your orders wrong or misunderstand you. We met so many nice people who work there, Raul (buffet), Ariel, Lazaron, Luis, Leandro (bartenders etc.) Everyone was so nice. The beach was beautiful! The water clear and we didn't even need our water shoes because there was no coral there just soft sand. We were able to take out the paddle boats and kayak with no wait any time we wanted. There were always enough lounge chairs on the beach. Another story at the hotel, there were so few and people would go down early in the morning and put their towel on them, then you wouldn't see them all day. Good thing I brought an umbrella or I would have roasted because there is very little shade at the pool. The pool is ok and not too deep for children, there is a basketball net and you have to ask at the entertainment hut for the volleyball in order to play, you have to sign it out. There are tv screens in the lobby, pool bar and snack bar. People were really into the soccer games. There are a bunch of little things that most people complain about, table in the room was old and falling apart, tv didn't work, door got stuck etc. We also had issues but we made the best of it. Our A/C leaked onto the balcony so we ended up with a pool as soon as you stepped out the second day, we simply took one of the garbage cans and put it on the balcony, wiped up all the water with a few towels and voila! We had to empty the garbage can everyday but the low price we paid for a family of 4 it was worth the money. I couldn't go to the Best Western here for 5 nights for the price we paid per person for 7 days. Yes, it was run down and old looking in areas but it's right in the heart of the city and the flea market is literally next door, you can buy any souvenir you could possibly think of for great prices. We walked all over and again I thank my umbrella, or I wouldn't have survived the scorching sun. There are cats/kittens in the hotel, stray dogs walking everywhere even on the beach but they are friendly and not scrawny looking. There are chickens and roosters walking freely about and horse drawn carriages everywhere. Do take one of the coco taxi/3 wheeled scooter, they are fast and fun, plus it was so cool with the breeze blowing on you. The banks offer a better exchange rate than the hotel but they are a 20 minute walk in either direction which is worth it because you also get to see where the restaurants are. You can eat for very cheap if you don't want to go to the buffet. Keep in mind that the bank experience is not like here, enough said. There are pelicans on the beach, people catching crabs in the canal, people fishing etc. This place is perfectly fine and it IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT! We had a blast and would definitely go there again for that price. We ate, swam, danced, laughed, rested, ate some more and slept little. All in all, we had a great time!

Resort was great, nothing fancy but totally adequate, great bang for your buck. Beach was amazing, a close walk across the street with a bar right there. Went on March break and it still wasn't crowded - always space with shade, chairs etc. Room was nice and clean. A/C didn't work but we didn't complain because it wasn't needed as it was really comfortable at night with windows open. Great location, you can walk around the area by the resort or take a quick cab into downtown. Went out every night and had a blast! Great spot! no complaints

We have stayed for the 2nd time here . We love this resort. Nice location Good food Clean. Nice staff. No complaints about this resort. This is are 4th time to Varadero and we are looking forward coming back to this resort in the near future.

we are use to going to 4-5 star hotels/resorts. We decided to try a 2-3 star as stars only mean anemities. The hotel is dated. Unlike high end resorts that are surrounded by lush vegetation, this hotel is surrounded by 4 streets and exposed to dirt and grime, but the location is FANTASTIC. Our room was clean.. The maid was in everyday. The dinning hall was cleaned after every meal. There are lots of jelly fish on the beach, so best to have water shoes. The lobby washrooms are also spotless. Yes, there are no locks on the doors and some have toilet seats. The food was way better than the 4.5 star we were at in Nov/Dec in Cuba. The only MAJOR complaint I have are with some of the tourist. they are rude, disrespectful and downright pigs. No wonder some complain that the place is filthy. Some tourist leave garbage all over, flick their ashes wherever and leave their cigarette butts all over the place including by the pool edge. the only place it looks like where the maid dont clean often is the stairwells. But otherwise this is a good place to go. You wont get the same amount of service as a higher end, but if you are reading this, you are looking for a cheap vacation. Definitely going back in November 2016. Items I would recommend bringing are -coffee mug/travel mug/ bubba cup -hand towels for your room and facecloths -your own beach towel -watershoes -a flat sheet as theirs is not fitted and is small and just hangs off the top of mattress. -spray bottle and essential oil. Our mattress did not smell of mold but one pillow did. So a few sprays of water/oil and it solved the problem -Place mats as their tablecloths are old and stained and not eye pleasing. -bring your own shampoo Go with low expectations and an open mind and enjoy your stay. Lots of little restaurants and snack bars and a flea market is right beside the hotel. Also, we left our patio door open all the time and had no problem with bugs.

We found the room to be very clean. The mattresses were good and comfortable. The food was great, really enjoyed the shrimp at lunch one day. The staff was good. The weather could have been better, was cold and windy. Did not get to go on catamaran trip.

My experience at Sunbeach Hotel in Varadero was not a great one. To begin with, at the check in, the receptionist held my passport without my consent and only returned to me after I went back to the reception and I insisted to have my passport back. Next morning when I went to breakfast I saw some clients upset and worried because they were asking for their passport and the receptionist was having a hard time to find it. In addition to it, they also held my e-ticket and they LOST IT. It have caused some stress. The restaurant is small and the exhaustor doesn`t work very well. When you have your breakfast, lunch or dinner in the restaurant, you will leave there with a strong smell of food. A very small variation of food, but the worse, that is a LOTS OF FLYES on the food all the time. Disgusting...

location - good for touring around, very safe to walk around at night, beach - not so great for the beach as you have to walk across a street, no beer or toilet available at beach, the beach itself is fine but not enough chairs room - clean, nice bathroom, not very good bed dinner - red wine was only available at dinner one night of our entire week, totally unacceptable, food was pretty much ok pool - could use a good cleaning staff - most could use some customer service skills, how hard is it to smile? mgmt should watch their staff in action and they could see who makes it nice for guests and who just goes through the motions and who just shouldn't work with the public.... HOLA SUN rep was awful

The room we had was very clean and sufficient. The grounds were well kept. The dinning room table cloths need attention and should be changed when soiled. The food was as expected but very repetitive. Same old same old. Fish was excellent. Recommend only if they know what they are in for. It is a true 2.5 star. Staff need to be more friendly, found very few you appeared to enjoy what they were doing as well as their guests. It is the service industry after all and one should not be ignored while staff chat up their friends. Location is very central to everything if that is what you want. Noise in the evening will probably keep you from sleeping sound but who sleeps on vacation anyway.

Hotel was very decent, main lobby very clean. All staff helpfull, food ok, bbq shrimps amazing. Cocktails are colorful . Beach and view of ocean across hotel amazing. Tallest building in Varadero ☺ . Missing music during the day . Exchange office have money every 3 days , but that is expected , life is not perfect

New paint but still same OLD building. Waited an hour for Holasun representative to show. No-show, no call. Lobby clerk said we would have to pay to phone her. Asked another rep to get her to see us. NOTHING. We will try iTravel2000 next time and another resort. Had better luck with them.

best was the booze and Beatles Bar down the strip, staff was great except Giovanni the entertainment team director, he's lazy. Rooms are big and clean, hotel somewhat clean. Food was sub-par. Beach was great although we had to walk to it. Beach bar was never open? Desk manager did nothing to accommodate us at all and we only had 1 request, and that was that 5 of us could be on the same floor and then had the nerve to ask for some articles upon us leaving.

The hotel was great although a little run down but who cares, the time that I spend in my hotel room is not worth even getting disappointed over. They were in the process of painting the hotel anyways. The people were incredibly warm and friendly. I would go back in a heartbeat.

This was a simple hotel with hot water, in downtown Varadero close to everything. The rooms were cleaned every day and the hotel staff were all very helpful. We did not eat at the resort while we were there, but from what I was told, it was average.

I have stayed in much better. I would not stay there nor would I recommend it. Been to Varadero 6 times and this was the bottom of the totam pole for me. Chamber maid invaded my privacy and found very little for kids to do.

We were a little disappointed when we first showed up because the hotel is a little dated. The first day service was not great but this greatly improved as we made friends with a few of the staff. For Under $700 per person you cannot complain. The beach is nice and there are many good restaurants around.

Great location! The grounds and pool were quite good but definitely a 2-3 star. Front desk staff were very poor and unhelpful but the rest of the staff were OK. Not 5 star OK, 3 star OK. The room was dissappointing overall but the bathroom was very nice.TV did not work but my wife and I did not really care about that. It is in a wonderful location. Right across from a great beach. We could walk to shops and food and a bit of a walk to the bank. Front desk was not helpful with money exchange or buying water but we found a place to buy bottled water 2 minutes down the road and the bank 25 minutes away. Bus and cab always going by and next time we will take the double decker bus for a ride. We would definitely go back to Veradero for a relaxing and inexpensive vacation. We would probably try a different hotel next time but would go back to Sunbeach if it was priced better than other places. The meals were OK on the whole. We could always find stuff to eat. Our travel agent with Tripcentral was Cathie. She was great! She explained the hotel to us, as she had been there, so we knew what to expect. She was also very prompt in returning phone calls and very upbeat, courteous and positive whenever we spoke. I would highly recommend her. I would recommend this hotel if you are on a budget and don't expect much but we will likely try a different place next time.

Passable is the best I can say. The staff was very nice, nobody freaked when I took hotel food across the road to share with my local friends. But mu room flooded every time there was a good rain storm (I was not offered another room) it got cleaned up no problems but still. Only some rooms had fridges, was very clean though. Elevators are ancient and slightly scarey, one stopped on me for a nerve racked minute or two, phone in elevator did not work. Food pretty average for Cuba, the bars eh! If you go to bed early it may be very loud for night time animation. Location was great, and beach was wonderful. But I don't think I'll stay there again and if I were a person who spends all their time at the resort I really wouldn't go, I had a good time cause I never spent any time in the hotel.
