All we love
Once again we had great 9 days at this beautiful place ! The ocean , food , hotel layout , rooms , drinks , all great ! Trip was smooth from begging to the end ! I’d just give low rating on the service at lobby bar and beach bar . There is no service , if you want drinks you need to get it yourself ! We also had very unpleasant excursion to Saona Island , organized by hotel staff Francisco . That was more like nightmare than pleasant day trip .

Great vacation
We had great time from beginning to end. One annoying thing was over 1 hour wait in the van to be transported to the hotel. But on the way to the airport everything went smoothly. Hotel is amazing, more than expected, and everything to our taste. We loved beach, restaurants, hotel layout, our room , drinks , service… I would like to give one suggestion, there is huge rush every morning for spots in the shade , since beach in not huge , but it’s deep . We never had chance to get spot under palapa , we didn’t want to get up at 6,7 am and participate in the hunt ! The worst part is that some people that left their towels on the loungers don’t show up all day… Not really sure if hotel staff can do anything about this , but maybe they can offer regular beach umbrellas to us that don’t save spots . I’ve noticed separate areas for “travellers club “ members, Most of the time I haven’t seen more than few spots used, why they can’t adjust it according to guests number and give more space to regular guests? I hope these minor things are fixable, since everything else is just perfect. I am looking forward coming again, with few friends and family members

Everything was Amazing
We were more than happy with the Royal Catalonia La Romana. Our room, the food, but mostly the staff were all wonderful. We had a swim up room connected to the main pool & the pool bar…what more could you ask for. Definitely paradise! We were there last year & are already planning on returning next year!

Not truly adult only. Don't waste money on Jr. Suite
Paid for a junior suite thinking it would be closer to the beach, water, quiet and diving shop...and it wasn't! All suites are actually located right near main reception. Ours view: right into the al acarte restaurant looking over the lounge and entertainment area backing onto the tennis courts and main road in. Explained this was not what we booked and were moved to the "only room available costs and extra $500US$". So, we have to pay for an upgrade we already paid for??? The resort Sunwing/Nexus rep was not helpful, had to go to the kids resort to see him & was only there from 9-12 IF you were lucky. We were diving every morning from 830-130, so weren't able to connect with him until the day we left. The buffet breakfast, dinners, lunch, snacks, Juice bar, coffee bar most al acarte restaurants, pool near the beach and evening shows ALL shared with the sister resort so KIDS EVERYWHERE! My idea of Adults only means I don't see them or hear them. If you truly want ADULT ONLY...don't go here. Food was average at buffets and al acartes. Staff kindness was hit n miss. Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Beach has plenty of sun and shadey spots, clean and water is wonderful!

Great vacation!
My husband and I just returned from a week at Catalonia Royal La Romana and wouldn't hesitate to return. We've been to the DR many times, typically staying at Excellence El Carmen but wanted to try the Caribbean side. We wanted great beach, good food and quiet relaxation and this resort delivered on all of the above. The beach was your typical calm, Caribbean blue water. The beach service was quick and the guys were very friendly. There are a lot of palapas and loungers but people do get up early to reserve spots and although we are usually at the beach about 9am we could only gets spots near the back. We didn't encounter any beach vendors the entire week. We enjoyed all the adult side restaurants, didn't have a bad meal from any of those while there but can't say the same for the family side. The service and quality of food are not comparable. After trying the lunch buffet and Toscana we stuck to adult only restaurants. Our housekeeper Rosa did an impeccable job and our room was done by noon every day. Staff are friendly and you'd often hear them singing or humming while they worked. Grounds are well taken care of and your typical tropical landscaping. We wouldn't hesitate to return and have already recommended this return to family and friends.

Wonderful resort
The room was amazing! We had a junior swim up suite which connected right to the main pool and bar it was awesome! The food at the restaurants was fantastic for an all inclusive. Definitely the best we have experienced. The buffet food was pretty average. Staff were very friendly and worked hard. The beach was spectacular, clear turquoise waters and white sand.

Great resort - terrible entertainment.
Everything at this resort was perfect or near perfect - beaches, rooms, pools, food, restaurant selection, etc.....except the nightly entertainment which was simply terrible! For starters, you could not trust the advertised programming on the resort app, both for times and activity. For example, our first night was supposed to have karaoke but there was simply someone singing, which was most nights. The entertainers were not loud and the tempo was such that I felt I was at a resort for senior citizens, not an adults only. And everything ended by about 10:30 PM! At an adults only resort! I know kids that go to bed later! And there is no discotheque or music bar to runaway to. After a couple of nights we realized - by pure chance - that there was a theatre at the sister family resort next door. We were not given a schedule or app for this programming but found something on a wall while walking around. We took in a few of the shows put on - including the typical Michael Jackson (been there, done that, but awesome in the face of absolute boredom) and one circus show that was good considering where we were, and what we'd been exposed to (or not). We also felt the activities at the beach were lacking. No drink testing, no beach volleyball (admittedly the beach is not very flat and wide for this), etc. There were dance lessons but frankly they were annoying being right next to lounging area if you were trying to read or sleep under the sun. All in all, a beautiful place that is in great shape, but completely bored by the lack of fun activities and entertainment.

Very pleased with our stay!!
We found the grounds to be very nice featuring mature landscaping, nice palm trees, stone work, pools and adult lobby/ hotel and restaurants area. The rooms outside of the newly built building,I found that they are backlogged on keeping up with the maintenance items for the rooms; although I found that they are nice suites that are well thought out in design and functionality. Sand around the single loungers needs to be sifted, not just racked. Things I would change is adding fresh sheets daily to the beds at the beach and a bigger towel service section. This should increase. Overall I see an effort to improve visible common area upgrades and maintenance crews working hard which demonstrates that Catalonia Hotel Resorts really take care of their properties. I was pleased with the staff and service workers. Beach is amazing!! Food was great! Entertainment was great as well! Overall 4.7* out of 5.

Amazing resort!
Hotel Catalonia Royal La Romana offers a captivating stay with its breathtaking beach and expansive territory. The beach is truly amazing, providing guests with a picturesque setting to relax and soak up the sun. The hotel's grounds are equally impressive, allowing for leisurely strolls and exploration. While the overall experience at the hotel is enjoyable, the restaurants leave a bit to be desired. Although some of them offer satisfactory options, the overall quality of the dining experience falls into the mediocre category. Additionally, there were occasional lapses in service, which detracted from the overall experience. One notable disappointment was the Siwichi restaurant. The food served there was far from mediocre and did not meet expectations. It might be advisable for the hotel to consider closing this restaurant or making significant improvements to its offerings. Overall, Hotel Catalonia Royal La Romana provides a delightful stay with its stunning beach and expansive territory. However, improvements in the dining options and service consistency would greatly enhance the guest experience.

Hilton La Romana
This is a very nice resort. Checkin was very quick and smooth, best we’ve ever experienced Rooms are spacious, updated and clean. Beds are very comfortable. Food was very good. We always had good selection at the buffet and enjoyed the reservation free restaurants. Privilege area needs some work. It wasn’t special at all. Food was awful and just nothing special there at all. It did have a bar and was air conditioned but other than that a waste of space. Pools are amazing. Hated that you had be up at the crack of dawn to get a good chair. Cost of Bali beds is ridiculous. Beach is beautiful. Rocky in areas. Could use more shade options. Staff friendly and helpful. Evening entertainment is non existent in the adult lobby. You had to go to the family side for shows but it would have been nice to have music at least in the evenings. Very boring to just sit there.

Good & bad
We are frequent travellers to Punta Cana but decided to visit the other side of the Island in La Romana. The resort is very clean, smaller than the resorts we liked in Punta Cana. The food was sub-par compared to most resorts in Punta Cana. but the staff is friendlier. The biggest disappointment is how steep the beach is compared to Bavaro Beach so we did not get to enjoy those long walks on the beach which is our favourite thing to do. On the plus side, the water is totally free of algae and very clean. In summary, not a bad experience but we will go back to our preferred side of the island in Punta Cana - Bavaro Beach . Better food and great beach for long walks.

Underwhelmed
Good resort layout, nice beach however impossible to find beach chairs (even 7am!). Rooms are ok but bedding needs updating (pillows hard with weird stuffing). Food - very elaborate menus but execution quite poor (a grade above Cuba). Staff friendly and helpful.

Amazing Resort
We loved this resort. It is located about 45 min.from Punta Cana. This hotel is adults-only, but guests are free to take advantage of its sister, family resort right next door. The hotel is well-appointed and on the smaller side, which is nice. The lobby bar has a good selection of alcohol but also makes delicious lattes. Above the lobby is where the breakfast buffet is located, which has a great variety of food—fruit, breads, cheeses, meats, cereals, typical breakfast fare as well as some Dominican options, and made-to-order omelettes. There are 5 specialty restaurants and all are a must-try. We found the food delicious!! I tried two chefs specials with beef—so tender; octopus—OMG, my favourite; red snapper; and desserts—passion fruit creamy mousse, a chocolate ganache, to die for. The sister resort has a wood-fired oven and makes delicious pizza. I have nothing but good things to say about the food. And we never had a problem making reservations and menus were available thru a QR code on your phone. There is a pool bar in a small pool, and a beach bar, that serves sushi. Pina coladas and mojitos are ymmy. There is a second swimming pool, and a theatre with shows every night at 9:30. There is also nightly entertainment in the outside courtyard…a singer, a musician, a singing group, or dancers. The beach is about a 7 or 8 minute walk, but they also have a golf-cart shuttle. Beautiful fine sand and shallow waters. The only issue was being able to get a covered beach chaise…you had to get down to the beach fairly early to nab one, because that sun is hot. We had a two-level suite with our own small pool, adjoining three others. The main level had a living room with pull out couch, tv, bathroom, and fridge stocked with water, pop and beer that was free. Coffee maker and umbrella as well. And as a gift, there were three 26 oz. bottles of alcohol. Access to the balcony and pool. Upstairs was a king bed, tv, two safes, closets, and bathroom. We never left the resort but there were many tours available. Entertainment staff conducted dance lessons, aqua size, etc. There is a washroom near the lobby with shower facilities.

Awesome resort😃
The grounds of this hotel are beautiful. Every area is carefully maintained and has creative features. The ground keepers are constantly working quietly to enhance the property. The public spaces are well maintained and convenient. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and held every convenience we required as seniors. Our housekeeper Evelyn worked diligently to maintain our room through immaculate preparation of the space. The Friday night buffet was spectacular and for us a wonderful introduction to the resort. We appreciated the front desk help to book the numerous a la carte restaurants. Wait staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. We loved the photo op features which we took advantage of. The garden near the beach was breathtaking. The shuttles to the beach were very much appreciated. Having a swim up pool was a delight. Having a few pools and a clean beach to choose from was great. Loved the hot tubs too.

Amazing resort - for smokers.
This hotel was so fantastic in almost every way. Very well kept, excellent friendly staff, decent food, amazing beach and some fun nightly entertainment. My only complaint (outside of smoking issues) is that they did not hold their guests to their own rules such as use of personal speakers and not holding beach chairs... which everyone did first thing in the morning and so it could be hard to find a spot if you didn't hold a spot... like you weren't supposed to. If you're a smoker, I 100% recommend this spot. If you're not a smoker and hate cigarette smoke, such as myself and my partner, it's best to avoid this place. We were the minority as non-smokers and guests were allowed to smoke anywhere and everywhere making enjoyment of any space, including the beach, difficult. We were constantly surrounded by people smoking, even in the covered (but not enclosed) restaurants, it was awful. Such a shame that a 5-star resort with an excellent location and better beach than Punta Cana, can't put in some smoking areas to keep the 2nd hand smoke away from non-smoking guests and their poor employees who have to inhale it everyday.

2 weeks in paradise!
A very nice hotel with great service, superb restaurants a fantastic beach with no Sargasso at all! A few words on Covid. Many hotel employees wear their masks below their nose or on their chin, same thing with many European tourists. They give you a plastic glove for the buffets restaurants but it can get crowded around in serving area. We were both fully vaccinated so it did not bother us that much. The tables in the "a la carte" restaurants are well separated which was nice. You have access to the sister hotel the Grand Dominicus but it's not worth going, the service there is bad and the food is far less tasty.

It was really amazing rezort
Hotel was very nice, landscaping really beautiful, very pleasant place in general. Wonderful people. I cannot complain about accommodation. Rooms are spacious, elegant, clean, enough space for everything and everybody. I changed the room after the first 2 nights ( upgrading). Both of them were different but beautiful. People - I would like to say thanks a million to my first cleaning lady Dariane. Such a amazing young girl, beautiful, very friendly, helpful, fast and efficient. I missed her after I moved. Rosa, my new cleaning lady, thank you very much, as well. Food - very good and totally different from my prior experience in AI resorts. One small buffet for breakfast and 3 times for dinner, otherwise a la carte. Buffet was very good. I cannot tell about the other restaurant, I didn't go. I loved my lunch at snack bar - the best menu to choose from for light lunch and people were amazing. It was part of a wet bar and those guys there were so friendly, happy and full of such a positive attitude. Especially Marcos, thank you very much. I cannot thank everybody. These people - all of them, are working very hard - waiters, cooks, landscapers....etc. Thank you very much, you are very important part of my amazing holiday. My special thank to PRISCILLA. You, lady, with your knowledge, organization skills, positive attitude, friendliness....you can easily run this resort. I have no doubts. You are beautiful person, inside and out. Again, thank you very much to everybody in Catalonia Royal La Romana. My apology if I forgot to mention somebody. You all were great.

An Amazing Resort
We were there from Feb 27th to March 4th and it was absolutely lovely! And we would go back in a heart beat!! We stayed at the adults only section of the resort and the service was fantastic. The staff were friendly and ready to serve you. What I really liked about this place that you didn't need to set up reservations at any of the dining places. Just walked up and we were seated. They had a variety of delicious food, any where from seafood, pasta, pizza and steak. Our favorite restaurant was the Steak Rodeo Restaurant, where my husband was quiet impressed with his beef tenderloin. The resort itself was very clean and always kept up. There is a garden that I enjoyed in my morning walks. The beach itself, well what can I say better than walk in snow! To bad I couldn't take it back with me. This resort was perfect for us for it wasn't an overly large resort it was a perfect size. We very much like to meet with other guest(s) and get to know them during our stay which makes for a pleasant vacation. Yes, I would go back not for a seven day vacation but for a ten day vacation!! Thank you for making our vacation a pleasant one.

Perfect Get Away from Everything
We just came back from 11 days at the Catalonia La Romana. It was a wonderful vacation. We needed to get away and have nothing to do and nowhere to go. The resort was perfect for us. We were given a room in the central courtyard area and asked to be moved somewhere off the beaten path. The next day we were reassign and paid a small amount for an upgrade. With this we also got two massages (one for each of us) and dinner on the beach (which we declined). The women at the spa were terrific. We each had the 25 minute back-shoulder-neck massage and liked it so much that we returned a few days later for a second treatment. It took the tension and the knots in our shoulder areas out. Ahhhhh. Francesca has the magic touch. The resort is VERY clean. Staff are always sweeping, cleaning and picking up after guests. We loved it that, no matter who on staff passed by us, each person smiled and said hello. We felt welcomed and valued. Our room was perfectly air conditioned and always clean. You have to get to the beach between 7 and 7:30 to get the loungers in the the shade. Be ready for a walk (about 2 blocks long) from the resort to the beach either through the two resorts or along the side road. There is a cart that goes every 20 - 30 minutes back and forth. We will consider returning to the Catalonia in the future.
