Considering this hotel is closing soon the staff were absolutely amazing. So kind and fun, friendly and always quick with a smile. A very quiet older adult place but the food and staff was fantastic. The beach is gorgeous and the drinks tasted wonderful.

Sunscape Resort had the greatest staff considering the resort is closing at the end of April. There was a good selection of food and drinks. The spa was excellent with good deals offered. The rooms were OK. Nothing spectacular. We did get locked inside the room due to a malfunctioning lock but called front desk and was resolved with a new lock. Also one of our party came home with Travellers Diarrhea which had to be treated by going to local Emergency. We did use the resort doctor for a treatment of an unknown rash. Nice there is a 24 hr doctor on site. Transportation around Puerto Plata was good and between hotel and airport. Lots of great excursions to pick from.

We had an amazing time at the Sunscape Puerto Plata. The food, drinks and rooms were all fabulous. We met so many new friends on this trip and look forward to staying connected. Friendliest staff too!

This is the second time we booked at the Sunscape and loved it! There were no issues with our room, everything worked perfectly. The cleaning ladies and the staff were wonderful. We thought the food was very good, but by the end of the week it did get very repetitive. It is a good size resort so you do feel comfortable taking a daily walk, the Coco cafe was so sweet, offering plenty of sweets and fruits and small sandwiches. If you want a relaxing vacation this is the spot to go!

Charming resort on a beautiful beach! This was the perfect spot to enjoy our March Break. The staff were friendly and the resort was clean and quiet. I would return again as we felt safe and comfortable!

This was the perfect size resort. beautiful long beach that was kept very clean, could walk for hours. Did not have to wear arm bands which was great and no reservations required for dinner. We never had to wait more than 20 min for a table.Food was good, there was always something for every taste. Staff are very friendly and efficient. rooms were a good size and cleaned well. Plenty of hot water for showers. we had the standard room and we thought it was great, glad we did not upgrade to sun club,would have been a waste for us. Would recommend this resort!

What a great resort. Close to the airport. Great food and drinks. Lots of options. STAFF ARE AWESOME ! Beach is really nice for the Dominican. Rooms are big and clean. Lots of activities durning the day. Over all we had a great time here.

The room was nice enough. Coffee maker with both regular and decaf coffee Bar fridge stocked with soft drinks and water We were in the Sunclub adult only section small pool private bar and some snacks. Stairs everywhere without hand rails. No reservations for the ala carte restaurants and they are up a long flight of stairs with children running up and down. Pizza was ok wood fired oven. Long waits in the restaurants terrible food. The buffet restaurant the food was usually cold and they would bring out fresh food and put it on top of the old food. There was turkey one day at lunch freshly carved it was good. I am an adventurer of new foods but everything was so oily. The beach was okay very windy sometimes there would be someone bringing drinks. No food available on the beach so had to leave and walk to the restaurant. Lots of broken tiles real hazard. Probably the worst vacation I have ever had in 30 years

Food was terrible. My husband got food poisoning 2nd night , Violent profound vomiting, If it was not for the Medications I brought we would have been in trouble, Three other people in different families also became I’ll, Resort needs upgrading, It is a 2 star.

We spent 10 days at the Sunscape Puerto Plata Jan 26-February5th 2024. I understand everyone has different taste in resorts. We are average people and here is our review. We stayed in Pool view King Building 11 2nd floor. Rooms were decent. Hot water every day decent shower pressure. Close walk to everything. Maid was excellent fridge serviced daily. Pool was nice typical temperature. Pool bar was great, friendly bartenders. Only ate at the buffet , Pizzeria and snack bar. Buffet had an excellent variety. Pizza was wood fired small selection but great taste. Snack bar was limited but wings were awesome. Beach was nice and clean. Overall no complaints. I have stayed at 4 resorts in Dorada beach and this one the best by far .

We travelled from Jan 10-17/24 and had the Adults Only Sun Club upgrade, it was our first time to DR. We were lucky and the weather was fantastic so we spent a bunch of time on the beach every day - you can walk in either direction for over 30 mins. Some people complained about the seaweed, but that's nature - they did their best to clean it every day. We didn't find it to be an issue when we went in the water. As a Sun Club member you get a separate section on the beach with loungers that can be placed under the mangroves if you need a break from the sun. We never had a problem getting a lounger. There are people trying to sell hats and trinkets, but they don't pester - a simple "no thanks" and they move on. We never had an issue exchanging our "orange" beach towels for new ones. There is bar service but we found the wait to be long, and the server often mixed up bubba mugs. :) I eat plant-based (vegan as best as I can) and had no problem at the buffet. There's salad available at every meal, toast with jam/peanut butter for breakfast, different cereals, cooked veggies, roasted potatoes, rice and peas/beans at lunch and dinner, and a variety of fruit. It's weird we didn't get 1 banana on the resort (they were at the local strip mall) but there was pineapple, cantaloupe, watermelon, starfruit, passion fruit, mango and papaya. My husband is pescetarian and he had fish at lunch and dinner, always options. We didn't bother with the alacartes because of our dietary restrictions AND we heard the waits could be up to 2 hours. We did try the pizza and it was good - the only thing is there is one poor guy who takes orders, preps and cooks the pizzas with quite a few people queuing up. Ours tasted good, but there's no real service so we usually stuck to the buffet. The Coco Cafe is great - offering custom coffees with almond milk (available every day but one). They also have fresh fruit and treats. I stuck to the fruit so can't comment much on the desserts. Service was fast and the women who work there were really nice. They also had teas available, I only tried the green tea. We went to the pool in the afternoons but didn't participate in the activities so I can't really comment. We also went to the gym most days for about a half hour. It met our needs with some cardio equipment (bike and elliptical), weight machines, free weights and kettlebells. As a Sun Club member, there is access to an Adults Only quiet pool but we didn't use it because the area is mostly in shade and the pool is shallow. It's an option if you want a break from the main pool music, but I actually liked that atmosphere so it wasn't an issue. The bar in the Sun Club offered the same snacks as the Coco Cafe, and claims to have "top shelf" alcohol. Because we aren't big drinkers, I couldn't really tell the difference - haha - but some people complained they didn't have the brands expected. We stuck to red wine (it's ok and drinkable), mohitos made with passion fruit (that's worth trying), and beer. Francesco was a really nice bartender so we often grabbed our drinks in this quiet zone at night. You also have access to board games (scrabble) and cards here. Our room reminded us of Cuba - the weakest part of the vacation. The rooms have problems and are very tired, but I wasn't expecting much. The beds were comfortable and our balcony was 5 star. The balcony sliders didn't lock, the bathroom tap tended to leak and the resort often ran out of hot water for showers right before dinner. Because our safe worked, we didn't worry about the balcony doors - the climb would be pretty treacherous, but I could see this being an issue for some. We adapted our shower time, no big deal because we're on vacation and it's an old resort. Our mini fridge was always stocked with water, beer and pop - never had an issue. The maid cleaned up daily and always gave us fresh towels, we never ran out. They supply soap, 2 in 1 shampoo and body wash so we didn't need to pack those items. Every night there are shows, they are ok - nothing spectacular but many were entertaining. We saw about half of them. Most evenings there was a woman singing in the main lobby, covering pop tunes - she usually drew a decent crowd. There's also pool tables, foosball and a worn out ping pong table. We did one day-trip to the city because we wanted to go up the cable car. It was taken through Transat who supplied our vacation. I would not recommend this - it's mostly a sales pitch at different stores - rum, jewellery, coffee, chocolate, cigars. Very little time is spent exploring the history, fort, or the top of the mountain. I was disappointed that they took us to the top so late in the day that the clouds rolled in and it was "rainy" weather up there so we couldn't see the city view. Not enough time to check out the botanical gardens. No entry to the fort, you could only see from the outside. I felt like I wasted a nice day riding in a bus going from store to store. The lunch was awful, not as good as the buffet food at the resort. We were given the vegetarian option which was a piece of zucchini and eggplant instead of the chicken. We noticed a lot of people didn't eat the chicken because it didn't taste very good. The bread was stale. No one ordered drinks because the price was atrocious. The one good thing about the tour was Andy, the guide. He was very funny so that made it passable. I have already recommended Sunscape to my friends. I want to explore other parts of DR so I will likely try somewhere else, but I would definitely go back here at some point.

Our third time at sunscape, very relaxing stay , hotel grounds are very well maintained and clean, staff exceptional special shout out to Leo in buffet, Francisco and Salvatore in sunclub bar , Carlos in family sunclub eating area, and jordane in entertainment staff, Jordan in beach bar, all went above to take care of you

Everything was excellent at the resort. Very clean ! Only thing I can complain about was the wifi not in rooms and not many areas. Staff was amazing and very helpful. Walked the beach for miles. Walked streets for blocks we were in a gated areas that had like 5resorts .

Sunscape Puerto Plata is a small resort that may show signs of aging, but it is meticulously maintained. The staff is exceptional, always ready to assist when needed. The three on-site restaurants are decent, nothing over the top, but nobody went hungry. It's advisable to arrive early to avoid the long waits as they do not take reservations. The buffet offers a satisfactory variety, each day something different. One of the highlights is the spacious pool and its accompanying swim-up bar, where the activity staff consistently involves guests in daily entertainment. The beach was very nice, although a bit of seaweed was always in front of the resort. If you venture further down, the water was exceptionally clear. Despite an abundance of loungers, shade is limited, with only one row of chairs beneath trees. While Sunscape Puerto Plata lacks a few amenities found in other resorts I've visited, our week there was still very enjoyable and provided a relaxing experience.

Playa dorada is a great mature area. Beautiful gardens and mature trees. Sun scape is friendly and clean. Some amenities were not available at our time for some reason. We expected a little more as was described but had a great time away from work and hustle bustle.

We just returned from a two week stay at Sunscape and will be back next year. We always book the Sunscape club adults. The service at this resort is excellent, the bartender during the day is Santiago and he is absolutely the best to greeting you at 7am for morning coffee and pastries and making great dirty monkeys in the afternoon after a day at the beach. The rest of the staff are also great and always smiling and eager to make your stay enjoyable. The rooms are clean the balconies are large with a table and two chairs,the bar fridge is restocked daily. The food is good although we did notice this year not quite as good as last year but we could always find something we liked. The beach is great and cleaned daily and great service for drinks.

This is our second time at this resort The service and staff are undeniably some of the best we have encountered They continuously work to keep the resort beautiful and clean The beach is gorgeous with a sand bottom We will definitely be back next year Thank you

First visit to Sunscape Puerta Plata November 26 - December 4, 2023. Sunwing vacations from Toronto. Booked Adult Only Sun Club King Room which was very nice. Well-equipped, clean towels every day, coffee maker and supplies everyday, mini fridge restocked everyday. Good food with several options available. Bar at beach was great and even had service to your chair. Lots of lounge chairs and shade. Clean washroom available at the beach. Beach is beautiful, clean and huge and you can walk for miles in either direction. Hotel grounds are gorgeous and well-maintained. Sun Club staff were very attentive and eager to help with any requests. We hope to return in the future.

Restaurants are really good. The resort is very clean and staff really friendly. The VIP is not worth paying extra. Rooms are really big. Lots of lounge chairs available all day. Shopping on site. Far from city for walking around.

The grounds were immaculately kept. Beach was good. Rooms were big with comfy beds and pillows. Pools was very accessible and clean. Food was typical DR. Lots but not a good variety of fruits or salad items. I would have liked more fish options. Note that there are no elevators and many paths are bumpy if you are handicapped. Entertainment was not good.

Hotel, food, beach were good per se But hear me out. Beach sellers/peddlers were literally harassing us since it was pretty quite on week days. I literally had to pay for a pedicure to get the lady to stop harassing me. we ended up staying at the pools BUT On Weekends the resort filled up with locals. It was chaos. Buffets were being abused and staff couldn't keep up. Multiple line ups overall not enjoyable. Noise and partying late into the nights. 3-4 AM. On week days it was awesome. The gucho grill was amazing. Staff overall amazing. We spent 2 weekends out of our 10 days and both weekends were a nightmare.

Beautiful, well maintained grounds. Beautiful white sandy beach, great for sunbathing or taking long walks along the water edge. Dining rooms are clean and nice. The staff always polite, friendly and accommodating. Cafe Coco - nice coffe bar. The only thing: bathroom washbasin was slightly clogged and the water was draining very slowly.

Pro’s: not too big of a resort but spacious enough. All hotel staff incredibly hospitable. Always clean areas. Grounds are nicely maintained. Good variety of food. The young guy who does all the MC’ng at the entertainment and pool is very charming and a great host. Definitely good size beach and activities to do. Good excursions. There is a mall within a 5 min walking distance.> Con’s: older resort which needs some repairs. Entertainment could have been better but the young host was great. Food was good. Some meals better than others. Disco DJ constantly played the same music and it was all over the place with genre’s. Not a good flow. Pools were a great size. Lobby was nice but no “wow” factor. Could use some colour. Wifi only good in lobby but who cares when you are on vacation anyway. All in all we met some great ppl. DO THE CITY TOUR. It was amazing!! We were so relaxed while on the resort and felt welcome by all the staff.

Back from 14 perfect days! So, arrival at airport, the Exchange Center changed our Canadian dollars to Pesos at 34. Upstairs in departures the Exchange Center was 37. The TD bank here was 33. I didn’t have a chance to use the ATM at the plaza mall, did anyone note their exchange rate? Beach- perfect, water is warmer at the Gran Vantana due to the black bottom grassy area. We walked to Elvis restaurant, past the warning sign and guard, a few times. Beautiful desolate natural beach with local friendly fishermen using a net in the surf. Beer is $5 a small bottle, it’s where the buggy’s and horses stop when on excursions. Buffet is good after 9:45, no bacon, maybe if you ask. Buffet at lunch always has fresh fish. Make a fish burger with the homemade bread, local tomatoes and cucumbers. Avoid the mayonnaise unless in a packet, so many people, wife included had belly issues after. Supper at buffet hit and miss, international night was spectacular at 6:30, not sure how well the food ages. Coco cafe was our go to for hot water for our licorice tea in the morning and sandwiches for our long hikes, donuts after supper. The pool bartenders are above and beyond and deserve as many tips as you can afford. Our room, building 11, 2nd floor facing the pool was perfect. Hand shower, king bed, new tv with HDMI - USB for playing movies. I brought our android box and connected to a SIMM card from the plaza. FYI when at the plaza and if you mention you are looking for the phone store for a card everyone “claims” they are a dealer and will disappear for a few minutes and return with one. You end up paying extra. We paid $30, it should of been $20 for 10 days. There is only one dealer store and many pretend dealers. Best to go to Jumbo where there is a Claro dealer store by checkout. We walked out to the main road, 1km, and got a guagua. 1990 toyota vans or similar with the door missing. You pay $1USD and they take you into town. Letters A,B,C go past Jumbo then different routes. Letters DEF are outgoing towards the airport. Safe and easy, no stops, just stand and wave when you see the letter in the windshield. Between 11 and 2 is less crowded. Leave $5cnd in the fridge with a note for beer and see what happens! We’ll be back next year.

The resort was so nice and the staff was super friendly. Made so many extra accommodations for my kids and our large group. The grounds are extremely well kept and the beach area was very clean. The coco cafe staff was great, always remember our drink orders as soon as we came in. Such an amazing time and trip. Shea was amazingly helpful with the booking and the entire trip made it just perfect.

We went as a group of 10 friends during the week of April 16 2023 and had an amazing time. We upgraded to the SunClub and it was worth it. The check in process was quick and easy, the rooms were clean, the beach was absolutely beautiful. And since it was in a bay, you could swim in the mornings no problem without big waves. The staff was super polite, friendly, and always helpful. Not the biggest resort but it turned out to be better because everything was close by.

The trip was seamless from beginning to end. The Staff were incredible: attentive, welcoming and fun. The entire resort was very clean, rooms were spotless and all common areas were cleaned regularly.

The resort was passable. However we found it dated. The room was adequate. The food was limited. E.G. they ran out of bacon and eggs every morning. They had to constantly have to be asked to bring plates, silverware, and glasses for juices. I twisted my knee on the 3rd day and ended up using a broom handle as a walking aid as they didn't have crutches, canes or wheel chairs. Never had beef for the 1st 4 days. The water in room was lukewarm at best

A beautiful, clean, well maintained resort. The Staff are Super friendly! As a nature lover it was amazing each morning to wake up to a symphony of birds singing. The Mangrove inlet with the birds, turtles and fish was a different scene each day. The beach is great for early morning hiking. Loved it!

Great week at the Sunscape. Food was plentiful and lots of variety. Rooms were large, very clean and comfortable. Beach was awesome! Pools were nice and lots of loungers. Entertainment was good. Coffee cafe was excellent. The only con would be …..not enough umbrellas around the pools.

We loved this hotel, we have been to many all inclusives and this was the only time the front desk ever called us twice to see how everything was and if we needed anything. It was friendly and very clean and the food was good. What we liked also was that one pool was for the party people and the other was for relaxing. We also loved the coffee and dessert room that we visited every day! Martha was also very special and kind to us, wonderful customer service well beyond expectations. Keep up the good work, we will certainly return and tell others.

This resort is older Caribbean style but freshend up and very clean . Rooms were a nice size and bathrooms were updated and clean . The pools were decent had a nice pool bar with friendly staff everywhere lots of loungers und umbrellas. Food at all the restaurants was good and large selection . Entertainment was fun and decent at night shows . From the front staff Miss Rosa was very helpful to bell boys and bartenders and wait staff and monica of the maid staff all were pleasant and helpful. Would recomend this resort to all looking to get away for fun in the sun for a reasonable price is a good 4+ resort . If impressed by mordern big glass n marble lobby etc this is not for you but for the average person looking for clean good food n drinks its great. Also this beach might not be the white sands of Punta Cana but clean soft sand and can walk for miles each way safely was enjoyed by many each day great swiming.

The resort had a great beach . Pools were adequate . The staff at this resort were always pleasant and helpful. I was very impressed with the service. The only major issue was the alacart restaurants. It was very difficult to get in and there was very little choice . Only 2 open every night. The buffet was good and well run but needed to change up a bit to keep it interesting. The beach restaurant was not open and this was a major disappointment . The grounds were well kept and everything was clean. Overall a good resort for a restful vacation

Perfect resort for a friendly getaway in the sun. The location was a 30 minute bus ride from the airport. Resort staff exceeded our expectations and were warm and welcoming! We left with full stomachs, happy hearts and new friends. Highly recommend the ocean fishing available and the golf course next to the resort. Overall, we had low expectations and this resort exceeded all of them for the cost associated.

Having SunClub made all the difference. Personal check in with no line ups was so appreciated. We were not happy with our first room and they very quickly found us another one with pool view. Buffets had good variety and every week has the same rotation of theme nights Restaurants have a good variety of choices for everyone

Lovely beach area, a great pool (closes at 6pm, unfortunately), and a large buffet. Some restaurants are limited (only 2 open per evening). We booked this resort because they boasted gluten-free and vegetarian options but were disappointed that nothing at the buffet was labeled for food allergies or ingredients, and the menus at the a la carte's were incorrectly labeled. There was limited evening entertainment, but we enjoyed what we saw. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the proximity to the mall was great for souvenier shopping. Our room was clean and comfortable.

This hotel is not suitable for someone with mobility issues as there are a lot of stairs. You can only access the outdoor pool and the a la carte restaurants by going up 15-20 stairs. The grounds are very well maintained. The beach is beautiful but the loungers need replacing. Food is excellent - lots of choices. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean but dated. Wifi available for free only in the lobby and is very slow and unreliable. Hand sanitizer was widely available and tables well spaced out.

Was not impressed with the LeCart restaurants, long wait and the food nothing outstanding. Entertainment not so good. Broken beach chairs should be removed. WIFI was horrible! pools were good and clean. Staff were always polite. Overall it was OK but was expecting better!

This is a very affordable resort with friendly staff, great food, excellent pools and grounds. Access to the beach is only steps away and there are plenty of chairs on hand. The nightly entertainment was a lot of fun over at a decent hour.

Just returned from Sunscape in Puerto Plata. We had an amazing vacation, to adults and a 9 and 14-year-old. Swimming on the beach was perfect as most of the big waves don't make it to the beach. Also good snorkeling not very far away on the beach. The food was amazing at this Resort and the staff is top-notch, very friendly and they aim to please! We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and would not hesitate returning!

Sunscape is a smaller older hotel (previously Barcelo) but is beautifully maintained. We were satisfied with food, rooms and the grounds. Our decision to book this hotel was due to value and location. We enjoy going into Puerto Plata for a change of scenery. I would recommend this hotel to the economic traveller.

The resort is very well maintained, the beach is stunning,rooms are clean and large. People are very friendly and the food was great along with the alecarts. We stayed here from 19th of Dec to 26th. You do get vendors on the beach but you say no and they leave. We have traveled to all different places and found the food way better then cuba while paying the same amount to go here. This was our 1st time in Peurta Plata and loved it here as mostly Canadians. We would definitely go back. No wrist bands and you just show up at the alecarts which was great for us. If you had to wait an hour to get in we just sat and had a couple of drinks. You are on vacation so what is the hurry. I can't believe some people are not giving this resort a 4 or 5. You can't compare apples and oranges.if you compare it to Mexico then pay the 2500 a week to go there, This resort was a great price , has amazing staff, beautiful beach, good food, and full of Canadians. Thank you for the great Holiday. We will be back.

the pool areas are very well kept.. lots of loungers to sit on, the Christmas lights were great, so pretty at night,, the food was good,,, we went to 2 of the restaurants, the Italian and the Argentina,, both were great,, the Asia was too busy, but heard it was good.. the pizza over e big pool was GREAT.. should be open more then it was,, Chicken Wings the best and should have them more often.. We stayed in Sunclub adult section which was great, the bartender super, all day snacks. and the drink were good. Pool is small but very nice. and we went over to the family sunclub for breakfast, which was good nice and cozy.. We also had room service for lunch , chicken club house delicious.. a few went to the disco and had a great time. beach is so nice. the Castaway down by the beach has a bar, but it should be serving food during the day for lunch for the people who want to spend more time on the beach. All in All we enjoyed every minute of Sunscape and would go back in a second.. The staff, well all i can say it TopNotch,, all smiles and so very nice.

The grounds are well landscaped and taken care of but so are many of the resorts. Room was very clean but dated and housekeeping was great. Food was disappointing. Too much by way of their local dishes. For instance bacon was never out at the buffet. If you asked for it they would personally bring you some from the kitchen. They could have had more wait staff on hand as service was slow in getting a coffee, drinks etc. Disastrous experience at al carte restaurant (Gohan). Waited for over an hour to just get 1 course of a 5 course meal. Ended up leaving and found out later guests did the same and not only at this restaurant but other al cartels as well. It would have been good if they had activities on the go, ie beach volleyball, bingo etc. but nothing.

We recently got back from a two week stay (Nov 14- 28th) at Sunscape. My first impression on entering the Sun Club for registration was not great, building looks very old. We were registered fast and very friendly, then taken by a little cart to our room. Our room was lovely, great location, ground floor, terrace, and super clean! The grounds are gorgeous, the buildings are older but you can see they are doing all they can to dress them up. They were starting to paint the one pool when we left. We thought the food was great! Lots to choose from , and varied every day. Perfect size resort. The drinks in the Sun club part were awesome, the other bars were okay as well. The biggest thing I would like to say was that everyone who worked there was so friendly, I mean genuine, not fake friendly. We have stayed in the DR many times, mostly Punta Cana, and five star, and the people they have hired make the resort one of the best. It was one of our better vacations, and Air Transat was good as well. Entertainment was not really very good, not much to do that way. The beach was beautiful. We would stay again.

Property 7/10 Decent grounds and nice clean pools. Rooms 7/10 Very clean. GREAT AC Food 3/10 Small poor buffet. Bad food but didn't get sick. Just bad. Service 4/10 Not great. Especially bad at buffet. Drinks 2/10 Cheap rum only cheap booze. Poor mixes. Very bad.

Full of locals on the weekend the food was cold horrible al Carter open only one or two days Noone there nothing to do my group had to take taki outside resort to eat the beds are horrible woke up sore bars are only open till one many repeat people who have been to that resort 9 times hated and and said they would not return

What I liked was the rooms were clean, well kept and nice and cool from the moment you walk in. I did have a safe problem was it was resolved within 10 minutes. The fridge was restocked daily and never was there a room problem. Having a garden room gave peace and quiet especially in the evenings when the entertainment was going on. As for the resort itself the pool was the main event area from 10-6pm if you wear a white shirt it will get some yellow colour to it probably from the bleach. I wasnt impressd with the beach area and especially with the hecklers bugging you nonstop even after you ask them to leave and the games area for playing horseshoes or bocce ball was non existant becuase you couldnt find anyone to get the stuff, I never ate at the beach but most days it was always closed. not much was open when you advertise 24hr food and their isnt its kinda frustrating. the stores expensive with no resort discounts. food was ok but could have been cooked alot more than it was. the entertainment was great. the pool area bar was barely ever open except for coffee so that didnt make any sense to me...but overall just complaining little things that didnt really matter...for the most part it was great but if you ask me honestly its a 3.5 star at best

First time at this resort and would go back for sure. The food was really good, nice big pool but the only way to access pool bar is being inside the pool. Entertainment staff "Richi" was so great! He was always coming by to make sure we were having a great time and went out of his way for out group of 22 to get a family photo done.

Sunscape grounds are beautifully maintained & very close to the beach. Sun was hot, pools were cool and drinks were cold! Service was beyond our expectations. Although the buildings could use some TLC, the cleanliness was outstanding. The entertainment was not out taste, but the Beach Party was fantastic.

The resort is a hidden gem, it is beautiful and the staff amazing. The covid protocol is still in effect at the resort, masking to enter restaurants and shops. Visiting Puerto Plata City, no protocol, they have no covid. The food at the resort is amazing, buffet and al a carts. There are usually 2 different al a carts each night all different. There was theme nights at the buffet eg. Mexican, American, Dominican etc.. The pool is a walk in pool for those who want to slowly get in. The Staff have an aqua fit class twice a day, dance class and learning Spanish during the day, they talk to everyone making sure they are all having fun and if you need anything they will find a way to find it for you. The beach is beautiful, staff keeps the shores clean everyday. There are venders walking up and down with different services. I got my hair braided and nails done, bought gifts for a few members of my family. you can bargain with them for a better price. My husband got manicure and pedicure (he says his hands are still smooth and soft). As a returning guest (thanks to our travel agent) we had a bottle of rum and chocolates in our room. thanks Janet. We did the City Tour excursion, went up the cable car to the mountain which has a botanical garden, cave and lagoon. The view of Puerto Plata was amazing. Went to the Jeweler at the resort and bought a Larimar /Amber ring, Larimar necklace and ruby earrings. He is very knowledgeable and easy to understand and very courteous. They have a coffee bar with different hot drinks and snacks (donuts are fresh). The snack bar is open lunch, supper and late night. Hamburg, fries, chicken, salads. all very good. The Resort has a drink of the day which I tried everyone, all good. All in all it was a fantastic time. Will definitely go back.

This is our second time at this resort. Once four years ago and again March 2022. The resort is great. On the smaller end but just the right size. Staff is friendly. Rooms are clean. Food is great for everyone in the family. Lots of Canadians to meet by the swim up bar. Lots of deck chairs available around the main pool. Great value for money. I would fully recommend for families and adults alike.

Really had a great time here and would go back again and again. This was my second time there since covid hit and its just starting to open back up so not everything is perfect but they are working hard everyday to make sure it's back up and running a full capacity. most of the staff were amazing and only found 2 that need to work on the attitude as I found them rude. They had to finish there conversations before taking your names on restaurant list.

While the resort is getting a little old, everything was clean and in good shape. All staff was respectful of COVID precautions. They were all very friendly. Beach is absolutely stunning and so calm! Buffet is actually quite good, especially Dominican food! Entertainment is not first rate but I came there to relax after 2 years of COVID stress.

Hotel was great , Buffet food was bad , always cold and tasteless. That said the al la carte restaurants which don't need reservations and have no limit had pretty good food. Pool was nice and beach is a real beauty. Be prepared for beach peddlers though. If you want to lay in the sun and relax do it at the pool. Surprisingly really good surfing close by at Encuentro beach. Would come back again in a heartbeat

We finally were able to travel and we were really looking forward to it. Sunscape did not dissappoint. Despite rain for most of the first week, we had a great time. Service was excellent, food was good, room was great, beaches excellent. The second week was perfect weather for sitting and walking on the beach. We especially enjoyed spending time with Fransisco, Jaun and Carlos (Sun Club Bar and restaurant) and Magdeline from the Castaway Bar. They were all very friendly and provided excellent service. All staff at the Sunscape were very friendly, and always eager to make our stay memorable. The resort was very clean and Covid rules were strictly enforced. We will definitely return with our family if the opportunity comes up. Fransisco from WestJet was also excellent.

Very nice place to stay. Rooms comfortable. Food was great. I have 3 negative comments otherwise terrific holiday place. 1. 2nd day was mislead into a pushy sales tactic in order for the hotel owner to sell memberships. If they said upfront what they wanted I would have strongly declined. Started with "you haven't received your free gift yet when you arrived". Be aware! 2. Bar tenders do not practice proper hygene techniques when filling drinks. Ie they put the draft beer spout right into your drink and when they are refilling personal cups this is obviously a transfer of germs. 3. The constant parade of vendors at the beach gets annoying. Up to a dozen an hours asking to buy their wears. Prefer they set up their wears and let people go to them.

Hello everyone we travelled tonSunscape in Perot Plata from February 26-March 3rd. Our flight was with Aur Transat no problems with either airports but the seats seem to be getting closer. We arrived at Sunscaoe about 2:30 in the afternoon, front desk were busy but very nice. We had the bell boy bring out luggage to the 7 section as we payed for deal of the day. If you have a choice try not to stay in this section loud disco that isn’t on the resort. We changed our rooms to the 12 section at a few, these rooms are much better and well located for everything. The buffet and the restaurants are good with good service. The a la Carter’s are all good and you don’t need a reservation. There is always a Waite for the food hut worth it, the steakhouse is the best. These restaurants are located on the 2nd floor, there is also a guy making the best pizza from 7-11 and if you don’t like something go to the pizza guy or the Buffett. The beach is great for walking and good for snorkelling and swimming. There is many vendors on the beach be polite and just answer no thank you. There is music shows and acting but it’s a little repetitive, there is a small disco in the beach bar from 11-2:30am. We had 3 days of Rain but this isn’t the resorts fault. When the sun was shining you will see the beauty of this resort and the people working here have a nice trip.

It is a cheaply run, understaffed resort that requires a lot of attention. It was so bad that we asked the Sunwing Rep to check for availability at the neighbouring resort The Gran Ventana. I think that Sunscapes was over capacity while we were there as the service in dining and bars were horrible. Repeatedly, there were not enough dishes to serve the guests. We always had to wait for something: plates, glasses, cutlery, napkins and/or beach towels. We had to wave to the coffee and water waiters to be served. Wifi was horrible. They served Classico Liquor not Brugale. Always long waits at any bar as usually only one bartender. It RAINED for 3 days and the resort had flooded rooms in multiple buildings. We were on the second floor and needed to be evacuated at 10:30 PM because our ceiling was leaking from the flooded room above us. Sewer smell was profound. Surface water up to mid calfs in many areas. There is a bridge that you walk on over dead water en route to the beach area. The dam there washed out and created a deep crevice in the sand 50’wide X 200’ long. The food was the same slop repeated every day at all three buffet locations. We were very disappointed with the coffee shop. It was always packed due to lack of employees and the desserts we the same as the buffets. The pool was disgustingly dirty. There was an orangey scum ring all around it. The entertainment consisted of two aerobic classes daily and the evening show. It would have been nice to have an animation team to run fun activities during the travellers’ 3 rainy days. We certainly did not get what we paid for at $1905/person. We travel a lot and we are just average folks. This is an honest and accurate review of our experience. Seriously, I caution you about the lack of service at this resort.

We stayed here from Feb 24 to Mar 2, 2020. The staff are fabulous, the resort grounds are impeccable. If you go I highly recommend the sunclub upgrade, it was well worth it. The beach is beautiful and very well maintained, the staff was up cleaning the seaweed and grounds before sun-up. Restaurant staff and bar staff were extremely friendly, the hotel maids were exceptional

The food was truly amazing at this resort. The presentation, flavour and quality were top notch. The beach was lovely! Lots of shade and places to enjoy the sunshine. Lack of beach chairs was a concern most days. The resort needs to purchase more!! Staff very friendly although the male staff around the pool were much too friendly with our university girls. Way too flirtatious and one actually followed one of our girls to a washroom waiting for her to come out and acknowledge his attention. Not acceptable at all. She was very uncomfortable and even afraid. Service at the restaurants was pretty decent. The only a la carte that we have a complaint about is the Asian Restaurant. We lined up before 6pm to have dinner. Probably 20 people got in before us and we were then told we’d have to wait an hour and a half to get a table. We could see there were empty tables so my guess is they didn’t have enough staff to accommodate the size of their restaurant. Disappointing. Never returned to that one. Rooms were decent although the shower leaked onto the floor each time we used it. Poor design. Overall this was a nice place but the best part was the food!

Just got back from Sun Scape Resort in Domenican Republic. We upgraded to the Sun Club which we where glad we did very nice and private treated great. Totally recommend doing that well worth the money. We found the food was ok nothing great, not much seafood which we where both surprised about. We found they needed to play music at the beach, and also need to change up music in the evening. They have the same Duo playing would be nice if they played more Domenican music and change up acts nightly. Also the vendors on the beach after awhile become very annoying. I payed 30 US per person also to get VIP for the Super Bowl party slash game. Which only got to watch not even two quarters of the game because the streaming stopped. I would rank this place maybe a 4 out of 5 not sure if i would go back again overall was great weather. Thank you Rick

Should improve service for internet connection in the room lobby very hard to connect. Food was not good too salted and should not repeat the same food everyday more fruits7 days no shrimp at all more bbq foods

We were very happy with the resort. Rooms were clean as was the entire resort. Beautifully kept grounds. The beach was the best, you could walk for miles in both directions. The vendors on the beach were relentless which was annoying. Also the chair vultures which made finding a place to sit difficult if you didn't get there really early in the morning. Many restaurants with lots of choices as long as you don't have any food allergies. I am a celiac and had a hard time eating safely but never went hungry. The staff is so friendly and welcoming.

Beautiful grounds. Friendly staff. Love the beach in this area. We get the suite everytime. Love having breakfast with Norberto and crew. After dinner drinks with Luis. All the staff are wonderful. We like that it is 15 minutes from airport.

Excellent resort with very friendly staff.Excellent buffet with a varied selection of food plus 3 other restaurants offering Asian,Italian and Argentinian menus.Pool and beach bars for great lunches and snacks and drinks. 2 pools and a great beach.Can not stress how wonderful and helpful the staff are at this resort!

Stayed from Dec. 30-January 6-20, went to celebrate New Years with the family, we were a group of 24 adults with 2 children under 12. The Hotel is clean is immaculately clean, from the lobby, bathrooms and grounds, the rooms have been updated they are spacious and clean. The mattress are comfortable as well. The check-in went smoothly so did the check-out. The food is okay at the buffet I think their breakfast buffet was the one I was not that keen on. The restaurant in the pool are is very good, the pizza spot is amazing and the café is fabulous. The staff is very friendly and always made us feel very comfortable. Juan de Jesus & Jairo from the entertainment team are just amazing they made our stay a very enjoyable one. A big shout out to the girls in the café coco truly friendly ladies. We did 2 excursions they were fun and well organized. The massage offered in the beach are well worth the money. I really can't say anything bad of this resort. This was our second time in Dominican but our first time at this resort. Would definitely consider going back.

Overall, this resort was great. Highlights were the beach (beautiful sand, beautiful blue water, no seaweed, and very safe the kids - 8 and 12 - to play on the sand and in the water), the staff, the layout (we loved that it's a small resort and that everything is so easily accessible), the cleanliness, and the grounds (beautiful and so well maintained). The food was ok - the à la carte restaurants were a bit disappointing (service was a bit lacking, the wait times can be very long as there are no reservations, and the food was just ok) BUT there were pockets of awesomeness!! The Asian restaurant was amazing, make sure to ask for the chicken wings at the restaurant above the pool (to die for), don't miss out on the wood-fired pizza on the rooftop (couldn't get enough of it), and the beach grill had great and yummy lunch options. Also, a stop at Coco's Cafe is a MUST...the best caramel coffee and pastries! It's an older resort, so some of the buildings need to have things replaced but I think they're working on that. Ground floor level rooms are ideal - we had a third floor room the first night (but knew upon check in that we were changing rooms the next day). It was clean, spacious and nicely renovated, but with the vaulted ceilings...we were awoken during the night with chirping and scratching sounds in the roof. Didn't get any sleep that night. Our next room was ground level, clean, quiet, pool side, near the beach and nicely renovated - couldn't have asked for better! It's worth the upgrade to the Sunclub - you can have a more privated breakfast at the Sunclub area, premium booze, wait service at the beach and at the pool - it was great. We had such an amazing time at this resort, had plenty of food options for us to all eat really, really well (kids as well as adults), LOVED the beach, has a blast at the pool...Overall, I would recommend this resort - for the price point compared to other resorts, it was well worth it.

The grounds were very well kept. Our rooms were cleaned beautifully everyday. Unfortunately our room shower leaked all over the bathroom floor leading into the room and soaked our luggage’s. 3 other people in our group had the same problem. Staff all looked overly miserable. Food was okay, we ate more burgers and fries then we did the buffet food. We noticed there was more locals at the resort then when I’ve travelled other places. Also the resort does not give out wrist bands, literally anyone can walk into the resort from the beach. The night light was pretty boring. Although I know this is not the resorts issue, the beach is CROWDED with sellers. Every few minutes someone would walk up to us asking to sell something, it got quite annoying. I’ve never experienced this much annoyance on vacation before.

The resort is so nice and wonderful....the room is spacious, clean....restaurants and bars offer a good variety of food and beverages The beach and pools are kept in a very good condition. The staff is nice and friendly. The team of Sunwing and tripcentral were so helpful......

The resort was clean. Staff very friendly and great service. It wasn’t a busy week which was fine so we had no problem getting a chair by the pool or the beach. Much busier on the weekend with the local people and much noisier. Pool music got way too loud and a lot of drunk noisy people at 3am. Food was very plentiful and tasted wonderful. No complaints there. Enjoyed the popcorn at the theatre bar each night. The a la carte restaurants served very delicious meals. The wait staff were all so friendly and gave us good service. The pool snack area served good good for lunch. Service a bit to be desired until the bosses were around and then top notch. Our room was a lovely size and kept clean. We lacked towels every day and had to call for more. Overall we enjoyed the resort!

Just got back from sunscape puerto plata beautiful resort variety of good food entertainment was excellent. The staff at this resort was awesome except for the staff that there uniforms were navy and light blue they try every way to con people that are on vacation into time share which I think is wrong. I was also disappointed in some activities that they advertise and didn’t do them cause that didn’t have enough people and at the same time I recommend it cause other people also recommend which was the foam pool party

The staff at this resort is stellar! They are so genuinely happy and a pleasure to be around. The facilities are very clean and comfortable and the beach and ocean are spectacular. The beach vendors are kind very respectful but the on site vendors were sometimes a little aggressive. It was a slow time so I am sure that they were really hoping for more sales. We are thinking of returning next year and trying the sunclub. Many thanks to all!

We've just returned from 2 weeks here. It's a pretty resort with a small beach. No problems finding chairs or shade. The menu was repetitious but always good. I was impressed with its cleanliness and wonderful staff who were willing to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The pools were always clean and inviting. We would return in the future.

Pros: 1-Service in the buffet was generally good, very good memories for the service and the food in the restaurants in the second floor both sides before going to Coco Caffee. 2-Grounds were well maintained. 3-Quiet resort during the week days, it was a low season. 4-Rooms were clean and spacious. 5-Fair distance form the rooms to the beach. Cons: 1-Beach not as expected, water not crystal clear and a bad smell through out the beach. 2-Uncovered sewing stream crossing the resort, very close to the beach, one restaurant and the buildings. Not acceptable for a touristic resort. 3-Anoying and load vendors all day long in the beach, smth. should be done to stop them. 4-Air conditioning service was interrupted during the day, even when the temperatures were over 30C. 5-Lack of food in the buffet, we haven't tried fish almost at all, even though sea was so close. 6-Noisy vendors that came inside the resort during the weekend.

Disclaimer: Staying during a “low” season, my experience might be different from when the “high” season kicks in. ----- Sunscape Puerto Plata is a solid 3.5-star hotel, on its way to becoming a 4-star resource. Overall, I had a pleasant stay; though there were some opportunities for improvement. THE GOOD 1) The beach is a selling point for this resort. The coast line is long, providing a good walking/jogging distance. The sandy beach is regularly cleaned and well-maintained. Very few seaweeds during my stay. The sunbeds are plenty, but no parasols, so seek shade under the trees (which is also plenty of). The water is crystal-clear. The entrance to the ocean is shallow with gradually deepening. There are several places for snorkeling (both pros and amateurs will find something suitable), with plenty of common fishes to spot on. Beware of sea urchins though, and please avoid stepping/walking on the coral/reef. 2) The room was spacious, with a modern touch. Cleaned well, not a single bug/insect spotted even once. Accommodations included in-room deposit box/safe, TV, an iron and ironing desk, hair dryer, and a mini-bar. 3) Most of the personnel is friendly enough, but I wanted to give special kudos to the bartender Dennis for going above and beyond to make sure our group had a pleasant stay. In all honesty, he deserves a bonus. THE NEUTRAL 1) The food was OK; though little variety. Often the main buffet was closed due to insufficient number of guests, so the breakfast and dinner would be relocated to another places (i.e. the theater). The à la carte restaurants did not require a reservation. Have been to jut one (the Argentina cuisine place), and it wasn’t anything more than a typical grill bar. Also, worth mentioning that all alcohol comes from the local producers. 2) Very little to do with the hotel itself, the weather was a mix. In the morning it was hot and calm, but approaching 2-3pm a wind would pick up, dropping the temperature down significantly. Since Puerto Plata is known to be the windiest side, there was no big surprise here. 3) When arriving at the hotel and during the stay, I have mentioned (casually) a few times it was my Birthday coming up. The lady at the registration desk made a note, but nothing came out of it. Yet, the next few days after my own Birthday passed, at least two other people’s Birthdays were celebrated with a cake and a song at the buffet. Perhaps, special accommodations had to be made upfront, but I found it inconsistent. THE BAD 1) While the hotel staff is friendly, they need training, especially the waiters. When ordering the drink, half of the time you will receive not what you have ordered, and another half of the time the order will never arrive. There was also an instance when a soup was spilled on the floor (I hope it was soup) and a few people slipped on it. The waiters, clearly seeing this, did not make any effort clean up the mess, nor to put up a “Wet Floor” sign. They just waited for the puddle to dry out naturally instead. 2) Being to many other places in Dominican Republic, including a hot-spot Punta Cana, I can honestly say that the vendors on the beach are the pushiest in Puerto Plana. They just don’t take “No” for an answer, and will continue bugging you over and over you several times a day every day. One guy went so far as asking for my Adidas slippers as a “free gift to his little son who has always dreamed of exact such slippers” (spoil alert: those were lady’s slippers :) ). He got rather aggressive when I declined, but staying firm is my best advice. ----- Lastly, a side note: dear parents of infants, if your child has crapped itself, it is NOT enough to take off the dirty diaper and set it on a dining table. Trying to enjoy a meal nearby while smelling child’s poop is DISGUSTING! Please, show some respect to other guests and take your kid away to clean him/her up properly. (Yes, those were Canadian parents).

Hotel was outdated however it was clean. Air conditioning kept shutting off in our room. It was slow season and I understand that . What I don’t understand is opening the doors to the locals and they just move in and it’s now crazy land . No longer a relaxing holiday. As for the nice roped in area on the beach that the sun club up grade provides. We couldn’t sit or even stay to enjoy the beach. We were constantly approached to buy from locals on the beach we had to leave . Nice beach but couldn’t stay . Oh yes one more the food .., lack of or not eatable ...

I enjoyed the resort, it was very relaxing. The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and the staff was very hospitable. I would definitely return. The only thing i did not like was the amount of people ON the resort that approached me to sell goods and were very persistent to the point of me feeling harassed. Other than that it was a nice trip

Clean. Clean. Clean!!! All day allover, employees cleaning, trimming plants. Watering. Painting. Maintenance above par. Rooms very clean. Great beds. Over 60 channels on flat screen TV. Rainshower type showers. Renovated shower area. Mini bar restocked everyday with water soda and beer. Buffet and a la carte food quality was above par. Taste, texture and presentation. Drinks were well prepared. Employees treat you with respect and friendliness. We loved this place so much. We plan to return ASAP

Sunscape, Puerto Plata in Playa Dorada Vacation review August 16th to the 23rd, 2019. The airport was a breeze, and the transfer bus easy to find and the weather was superb. A pleasant 15 minute drive to our hotel which was the first stop. Has soon as we arrived we where escorted to a private check in for the Sun club. I had prearranged this a week before and the upgrade was worth it. The check in was relaxing and we had welcome drinks and hors d’oeuvres, very nice. The Sun club offers family and adults only. The adults only is where we stayed. The adults section had its own pool, which was small but adequate to cool off and relax. It was also gated so another nice touch. The rooms where clean and comfortable and maids cleaned and restocked each day. They were pretty basic and simple but they had a really nice large screen TV and nice toiletries. The hotel grounds where very clean and lush, everybody works so hard to keep it looking so pretty. The hotel itself is a very small resort feel, with a family pool near the reception area and main buffet and a larger pool with a swim up bar near the entertainment sections, restaurants above second level. We never used the large pool but they had foam parties on a weekend that looked fun. The beach was very close by and was huge and really nice, the waters had no sea grass or seaweed, beautiful and clear and refreshing. The afternoons tended to get windy. There where quite a lot of vendors trying to make a living selling various products, they would ask but if your weren’t interested they just walked away. However It was quite annoying to be pestered from time to time, it would have been nice to have an area that the vendors couldn’t enter. This didn’t spoil my vacation. The restaurants where lovely, we used the Gohan, Pizzeria and Caribbean. The time of the year we went it was their quiet season. So the Sun club continental breakfast was available in the mornings and also the buffet with a varied selection. Snacks were available throughout the day and the buffet and restaurants in the evenings with the sack bars available later on. Because it was quiet they alternated the restaurants, and we always managed to get a seat. The weekends are busy and so patience is required when dining. The local people tend to use the resort on the weekends. There was entertainment and schedules for everything, every day and a kids club. We where around to hear the entertainment as its close to the restaurants and cafe bar, but we stayed near the adult bar most nights. There are some shops on site, and some within walking distance, slightly cheaper. Theres also a city tour but we missed that one, but my husband and son booked the beach buggies and had so much fun, they came back really muddy! Overall a pleasant relaxing stay, great food and lovely hard working people who try to make your stay as memorable as can be.

We had a wonderful time at the resort. The service was 5 stars. The resort needs a renovation and update and the more variety in the food selection. Would return with my family. The daily activities was fun and entertaining.

The room was clean with a good view, mini fridge was refilled everyday. The pools were clean. The four a la carte restaurants did not need reservations which was convenient. Daily activities and entertainment on the resort. Staff was friendly.

Stayed May 4 to May 11/2019. Second time staying there (May 2018). This is a very clean resort. The public washrooms are always clean and nicely scented with cinnamon candles & oils. Everything is within walking distance-beach, pool, restaurants & lobby. Staff is friendly and always saying hello without looking for a handout. However, when tipped they were so very grateful and appreciative. Food was excellent, the buffets and the a la carts. No reservation necessary but the wait times were not bad. Rooms were large and clean. We unfortunately had really bad water pressure if showering around 5:00. Thought it was our shower head but when maintenance came to check it out, it worked fine. I believe it was just too many people showering at the same time that we lost hot water pressure. We were in building 11, 2nd floor. However, I also stayed here a year ago in building 11 3rd floor and had an excellent shower. If we needed something or had a concern, you need only ask and they try to fix it. In hindsight, I should have had maintenance come at 5:00 to show them the problem rather than later in the evenings when it would work for them. The point is, all I had to do was ask and I should have. Building 11 backs on to neighboring resort and their outdoor party area. Very loud but with our patio doors closed and the ac on, it was not bad for us. I can sleep through anything, but some people would have trouble with it. Only cons- frequently approached by resort VIP staff trying to sell us the VIP package information session. Also public beach so vendors are constantly trying to sell you something. A simple “no thank you” and they were on there way. That being said, we also met and got to know some of the public vendors and the VIP staff and they are just trying to do a job too. Very friendly and respectful when we would say “no thank you”. I definitely would be happy to go back again. Basically went for total R& R. Do nothing and read a book. Did not try excursions. All ages seem to enjoy this resort. I am 56 but There were lots of young families and young adults (25 age?) there as well. Beach was windy so the beach bar restaurant is very sandy but they are constantly sweeping it. Sometimes blows around though in the sitting area. But the food was good there. Both pools were good. People do the towel thing though to hold them but generally they are not gone for hours. Although there are warnings, staff does not monitor this. I think that travellers have to be more respectful of other travellers and accept more responsibility and not pass everything off to the resorts. They are wheelchair friendly as well. A la carts are on second floor but I saw a chair lift available on the stairs. It is everything that I need on a vacation.

ROOM, GROUNDS, WASHROOMS WERE VERY CLEAN RESORT STAFF HAVE POOR COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THEM ENGLISH SHOULD BE IMPROVED ENTERTAINMENT NOT TO GOOD FOOD WAS HIT AND MISS, SOME MEALS QUITE GOOD, SOME QUITE BAD. CLOSING SOME RESTRAUENTS FOR AN EVENING WAS NOT RIGHT, WE PAID FOR ALL TO BE OPEN ALL OF THE TIME !

This resort is small and everything is very convenient to get to. Has 2 pools one quiet and one very active for those who dont like alot of noise. The food was awesome at the buffet and snack bars. Alacarts were good but found it not big enough meals. Rooms were clean and a good size. You can upgrade for more money but no need to as the rooms were same but you do get small pool to yourself and meals but not the variety you get at the buffet. Stay away from the fancy dressed guys at first they want to sell you a membership which in my opinion is not worth it unless you are retired and travel alot. Not good for the once a year traveler. I would totally recommend this place and go back again.

This is an older resort with a few upgrades. The room AC hardly worked and our shower leaked. The bed wasn't comfortable. The restaurants were beautiful especially The Grill. Food was amazing throughout the resort. Beach was incredible! The spa was gorgeous and well maintained. Although it's rated as a 4 star online, they self-rate it as a 3 star. Overall it was a wonderful vacation but we don't feel we'll come back to this resort.

This was one of the cleanest, well run resort that we have been too. Congratulations to the manager of the resort and his wonderfulstaff. Beautiful room with walk in shower and huge balcony. Gardens around the resort were amazing and appreciated that they included the names of the plants and flowers. The gardeners and ground staff kept it pristine. Although we didn't use the pools they looked very inviting. We enjoyed the buffet and trying the other restaurants. Food was very fresh. Our favourite place was the Coco Cafe the Cappucino was excellent as was all the fine pastries. The beach was stunning - good swimming and going for long walks on the beach. We hope to get back again next year.

Many food choices, super friendly and helpful staff, great entertainment and on site activities. Everything is beautiful and fresh looking. I was surprised that there were not specific smoking areas, so people were smoking everywhere outside, including in the pools and all common areas. But, ashtrays were cleaned and switched out very frequently. Our beds were very uncomfortable, I guess we are used to a much softer mattress! But we did not have sore backs after our day at the fantastic spa! You have to try it. The beach was underwhelming, and pretty dirty, although there were always staff working on cleaning it up. It’s the tourists leaving cigarette butts and other crap all over that grossed me out. You must check out the Coco cafe, and get an ice coffee with chocolate drizzle and a shot of coffee liqueur! The Manatees swim up bar is pretty cool too. All in all, I would say a 4.75 out of 5.

The hotel grounds and beach were cleaned daily. Food was excellent and there waz a large variety. Staff was very friendly and courteous. I would and already have recommended thus resort ti family and friends

All around everything was great.....friendly staff, exceptional service, clean rooms, clean grounds, two very nice pools, easy access to clean beach, lots of very good restaurants, both buffet style and à la carte, all kinds of drinks were available at all times, great entertainment every night, a golf course across the way and tennis courts on site.

The grounds are nice but that's about it. The staff make you feel like a nuisance, the food is terrible and there aren't any pool towels. We were told to come back at a later time and even when we came back, they still didn't have towels.

We had the most awesome time! Rooms were amazing! Very clean and all the equipment's were working. The personnel in the Hotel, restaurant, bar , entertainment , housekeeping to even the photo shop were incredibly friendly and helpful. We loved everything!

I just returned from a week at Sunscape Puerto Plata so I will write this while it is fresh in my mind. This is one of the cleanest resorts I've ever been to. The rooms, ground, restaurants and common areas are immaculate and the service was fantastic. Food at the buffet was good and always replenished quickly. The a la cartes could be quite a long line up so go early and enjoy a drink on the roof deck while you wait. The pizza shop is there as well if you need a snack to hold you over. I tried the four a la cartes and really enjoyed the Asian and Argentinian. The Italian and Caribbean were just okay. The snack bar by the pool was great for a quick bite and if you ask the chef he will make chicken wings fresh for you. (You can borrow some hot sauce from the bartender) My one disappointment with the food was the fish. Usually there is fresh fish you can get cooked to order at most resorts but they didn't have this, there was breaded fish and fish in sauces on the buffet which was good. Being from Nova Scotia I am fussy about fish being fresh. The beach was large and clean but beach loungers were hard to find on the weekend. I love the trees shading the beach so you could get out of the hot sun. I'm not a pool person so I didn't use them, but they looked nice. There is a large pool with a swim up bar and a smaller pool with a volleyball net and a kiddy pool. We stayed in building 7 which is one of the furthest from the lobby so it was lovely and quiet at night and still only a five minute walk to the lobby. The resort is only a short ride from the airport 20 minutes or so and is close to excursions. My only complaint is that I found the bed quite hard and it bothered my back. Not a big deal. I would recommend this resort and would stay there again. It's reasonably priced with a great staff and very clean.

Very nice hotel the food could be a lot better and service is ok but need more training for the buffet and the steak house and the Italian restaurant . Almost every day never had a replacement Dry towel and always get ask about the spas and the famous free breakfast . The first night we wait 2 hours to get the replacement room because the air conditioning was not working !!!

The hotel was very clean. Staff was very friendly. Always good choices of food. My family can be picky eaters and we found something at every meal that we enjoyed. Great beach, with the opportunity to have a good walk if you enjoy running or walking on beaches. The view was incredible. A good trade wind, so you don't feel the intense heat. I would recommend this resort.

Our group of four enjoyed our stay at Sunscape very much. The staff were so friendly and courteous, especially the bar staff, not once did they not have a smile. We liked not having to make reservations for the ala cart restaurants, there is a perfect place to have a drink in the lovely DR breeze and grab a great slice of thin crust pizza while we waited for our buzzer to let us know our table was ready. We enjoyed all the food venues, beach lunch was very simple but good. Buffet was very good with plenty of selection, it could use a bit of a spruce up. Rooms were basic, but clean with nice white linens and towels. One down for me, was the amount of smokers all over the resort, it did have no smoking places, but it seemed to flow all around, but I'm sensitive to smoke, smokers would be happy! Nice entry to the pool on the one side with gradual slope, and deeper on the other side. Beautiful beach, that was so nice to walk for miles, water entry very sandy, easy to get in and out. We enjoyed the nightly troupe of entertainers, that worked their hearts out with a 30- 45 minute show to watch after our dinner. All and all we had a very nice vacation.

We had a very good time, very happy we choose this Resort. Would highly recommend this Place. The Food was awesome, the rooms great, no complains at all. Thank you for the great time, and awesome experience.

The rooms are very spacious, clean,& beds comfortable. The resort staff were friendly and hard working, and eager to please. Food was plentiful and decent something for everyone! Beach is beautiful. However the resort need to get more lounge chairs for beach as well as more beach towels! The resort is quite large so there is a lot of walking if in the far complex ! Our vacation was great, really have no complaints!
