This resort is is close to the beach. you have two options either to use the hotel's swimming pools or go to the ocean a stone's throw away. What I particularly like was the unlimited food and drinks at the restaurant and bar. I also noticed that the staff were friendly , the rooms also very neat. I have been visiting Cuba since the last 14 years. This resort stands out as one of the neatest..

Really enjoyed our stay. The food was good, plenty of choice. Even our kids who are picky eaters found something that they liked. They have a beautiful beach that our little one enjoyed playing at and exploring a lot. The water is pretty shallow which makes it safer for a families with small children. During our stay there weren't many mosquitoes which was also a plus. We would definitely go back there again

I arrived quite late and the buffet was closed the person at concierge gave me a cold plate, which I was very appreciative of and then drove me to my room in a golf cart. I knew not to expect a lavish room, but was a pleasant room, with a little gecko greeting me. I was so excited to finally arrive, being this my very 1st vacation ever, woke up to a beautiful sunrise with a cup of coffee. I heard from many people not to expect an over the top menu at the buffet. breakfast was okay. The hotplate area the food was not has warm, and I learned that the best item to eat was an omelet; butter is scarce so grab it while you can for your toast. Lunch & supper on the other hand was spectacular, and I highly recommend the fresh fish and lamb. The servers, Kenny, Oscar, Danier, sorry if I forgot someone's name are there to welcome you with a big smile, and when they get to know you with a big hug. The Ala Cart was amazing, which I had 2 ala carts with my stay I did have a situation with my room, Carlos was quick to fix all, with the help of Google translate we understood one another. Oh can't forgot the charmer Enrique always ready to help lol The beaches, OMG!!, are out of a story book. Everyone at the 24/7 bar. Elvis, Daniella, unfortunately I can't remember all their names were very quick to remind me that I am on vacation & need to relax. All were warm and welcoming. Aida, who was the most kind & wonderful woman that took care of my room always greeted me with the biggest smile & hug. In conclusion the resort is not a 5 star, but the people who work there are!

Staff was welcoming and accommodating. Beautiful lobby! Cappuccinos were soooo good!! Room was a little dated. Beds were super comfy. Had some minor issues with the room, but no biggie. Food was ok… everyone knows that you come to Cuba for the beaches!!! THE BEACH IS BEAUTIFUL!!! The pool was refreshing!! Bartenders.. were such a pleasure to have! The groundskeepers were amazing. And the housekeepers…so so sweet!! My little one enjoyed the different swan blanket rolls everyday!! The entertainment staff was.. meh! The main issue that we faced were the locals on the resorts with the boldness and lack of respect they showed for other tourists, resort and more than ever, the staff. For example, was lack of plates because they would take multiples for one person. Buffet line would be crazy busy.. one person would lineup then all of a sudden six or seven people would jump in making everyone behind waiting for an omelet up to 40 minutes…. Which was insane! The dining room staff are very nice but need to be a bit more attentive to the guests and making sure they have cutlery, napkins or even offered water or coffee. Most times I would have to track someone down to get a place setting for a table and a drink! After a couple of days we would go to the buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner at opening just so we would get a plate and avoid the lineups or have to wait on food to come out just to be able to eat. They were just rude… not all but some. We will return to Cuba but sadly not to this resort.. which sucks because the staff are what really made our trip easy.

I needed to get away and relax. Starfish gave me the quiet off-season RnR that I needed. The staff, accommodations, food, beach, pool, and resort were all top notch. The 10min walk to see the flamingos was one of my highlights. I would definitely return

Amazing resort. Very family friendly kids loved the kids club as well as the beach never had to fight for chairs. We had a few small issues on our trip and they were fixed immediately. Not a party resort. Lots of food options and booze. Loved the cappuccino . Ariel was our favorite bartender. We will be back forsure

We went to this resort end of January 2024, first time here, 8th time to Cayo Coco. Loved loved loved this resort! They were amazing with the kids, from the entertainment staff, to the bar staff who let them get their own juice to the lobby desk guy who played with them with the bell and made my son (6 years old) super cool paper airplanes. They have lots of entertainment for the kids and sports to do. The food was plentiful, service was amazing everywhere, including the gardeners! They really do go out their way to make sure your having a good trip. Even gave my son a necklace. The room was clean, yes a bit outdated but super cozy and no issues at all with it ( we had a oceanview room) Beach is amazing, pools were nice ( we go for the beach though!) You never have to worry about finding a spot on the beach or by the pool, always chairs available. Resort was very clean. Drinks were always available no matter what you drank even wine! No complaints for our week staying. Will definitely go back!

I just made a "quick stop" here last week for 3 days, and being my second visit, nothing has changed since 2019. The buildings are dated, but WELL maintained. The food is amazing (repetitive, but amazing), the pools are clean, the staff is awesome, and the grounds are maintained to the tee! While there, I made arrangements to return in may :) Soooo many of the guests are returnees. And I even met a girl who was on her 11th visit in 13months! I can't wait to return in 7 weeks

The room was well except for the 2 broken beside lamps. The service was good in general, staff was nice. Concerning the food - the redundancy of the food they serve, over and over, meal after meal, cut into different shapes but ALWAYS the same, no condiments whatsoever (not even oil to put over your salads) was REALLY irritating. Absolutely NO imagination whatsoever. Also, I drink white wine and coffee, easy right? They had no coffee for over a week at the bar, they heated some cold stuff with the espresso steamer and served it drowned into lukewarm milk. Wow. Forget about the white wine. They had a little on one or two days and then no more. BUT they DID have 40$ CAD bottles of white wine for sale on their bar shelves (really???… come on!!!!). This was my 3rd stay here and I have mixed emotions regarding any future trips at this resort. Not sure I’ll be returning. Too bad.

The resort is located on a shallow, stunning white beach, which was perfect for my lake-swimming kids - we never worried about them by the water. The pools had garbage floating in them and we only saw staff service it one out of the 10 days we were there. We preferred sitting on the beach, so wasn't too much of a problem for us. We had two rooms and only one had hot water and a fully functional toilette. I wouldn't recommend this resort to just anyone, especially people used to a kore luxe resort experience. We did really enjoy the food - yummy greens, fresh papaya, made-to-serve meat (we ate beef, chicken, turkey, etc.), different bean and rice concoctions, questions Blanco, etc. Our kids enjoyed daily servings of French toast, omelets, meat, rice, buns (and butter!), and numerous helpings of Frnch fries at the bar. We found staff pleasant but not always great on the service side. We concluded this was because they work 16 hour days and commute 1-2 hours to and from work.

I've been going to this resort for 25 plus years and I'm sorry to say I won't be back. In less than a year this resort has gone downhill big time. example grounds not kept up grass very long everywhere ,very little gardeners around to do the work. Pool not maintained couldn't swim in it last 2 days. Very short on staff. The people in the suites had the maid for he first day and did not have one for the rest of the week Towels in my room hung back up to use again because use there were no clean towels available. could no change beach towels because they had none for the whole week. When I first went into my room no sheets on bed but I was one of the lucky ones I got a sheet for my bed a lot of other guests weren't so lucky, that was ok because I don't change them at home every day. Food was what to be expected lots for rice dishes ,chicken some beef pork and fish .Guests who arrived on Saturday were put in rooms that weren't cleaned no sheets at all on the bed. The buffet cross contaminate because they don't have enough serving spoons for the food they put out. They are very short staffed. The best thing at this resort is the Beach. Sunwing I would expect that because it is one of the hotels connected to you that your firm would check it out to see that it was up to standards.

1. Light outside my unit did not work so it was pitch dark in the night to walk down the stairs and this prevented me from attending the nightly entertainment. No one seemed to care that a female guest did not have sufficient light to walk outside in the night . They were aware of this the first night but failed to fix it in the daytime. A “maintenance” guy came late on my 3rd night to ask to come into my room in the night to check the breaker but I did not want a stranger in my room so late especially when I could not see who it was outside. 2. The phone did not work so had to walk all the way to the lobby every time I needed info or something such as the wifi renewal which no one told me expired after some hours. 3.No channels on room tv , was not connecting to satellite, never fixed during my stay so no tv at all. No one seemed to care about the 3 issues above . Very frustrating. Curtains and mattress/ bed box , sheets and towels all had stains. Got a very torn pool towel too. Italian restaurant a la carte food was not very good. Grass outside my unit stairs was very long . Pathways near my section were unlit and made it very difficult to see and walk in the night . Most staff was pleasant and friendly. Food was surprisingly good esp the beef, veal and lamb and the flavoured rice . Breakfast omelettes and deli meats and cheese were good too. One wait staff told me she didn’t want to be tipped in US$ . Good location with beach access but too much seaweed and broken shells which may cut. I heard the entertainment was good but again, I could not see properly at night to walk out to the main area due to lack of lighting despite use of the torchlight which didn’t make me feel safe walking solo near the long overgrown bushes too.

The location in Beach are the only reasons to attend this hotel. The buffet food was substandard. One of the chefs cut herself carving the food and was bleeding in the food the a la carte restaurant food was edible if you can get a table Did not have any hot water in the hotel room. The entire trip spoke with front desk spoke with maintenance spoke with hotel management. With no success, everyone promised tomorrow it would be fixed.

Was there May 1st . Beautiful resort . 3 nice pools . Rooms need some TLC , but are clean . Don't book superior ocean view just book standard ocean view and this will give you a room in the white cement buildings There are also ocean front rooms that are really close to the beach . We had to be moved from the superior wooden bungalows , small , gloomy and our AC did not work . We changed rooms no problem . Beach and ocean is beautiful but very shallow so not really suitable for swimming ,more for wading in .There are food shortages but we found lots of tasty dishes to eat .I was happy with the food. Many flies in the buffet but many other resorts have them as well . Loved the Cuban and Italian restaurants, they were delicious ( try the pizza! ) . There are noseeums that bite early morning and dinner time till the sunsets . Many people walking around with bodies covered in bites . I only got a few , my daughter was covered in bites . Bring lots of deet. Resort was at about half capacity . Good service. Try the iced coffee at the front bar ! We just love the Cuban people. They work so hard to make your stay memorable. Lots of seashells . I recommend bringing water shoes as some areas along the shore have sharp coral and shell pieces .

My wife and I recently stayed at this property (April 21-25) as a last minute couples get away. We chose this specific property as it is secluded and fell comfortably within our means. It is an absolutely stunning property, and we thoroughly enjoyed the charm of the older property. The staff for the most part were outstanding in their face to face customer interaction, given the language barrier and lack of resources. Unfortunately we suspect we were robbed by a member of staff on the last day of our stay. We still have not been able to locate the envelope containing our money, which we had secured in our luggage. We immediately notified on duty staff, who advised us that we had two options. 1 we could fill out a request to have maintenance conduct a key read of our door the following morning. In which case they would notify us via email with the results, when completed. 2 We could cancel our flight and contact the local police to come and investigate. We opted for the 1st choice, and are yet to hear from the property management. As a former member of a hotel security team. I was particularly concerned that a thorough investigation into the incident could not be commenced immediately once reported. Adequate security and security measures seem to be lacking at this resort. If you are booking here please be aware that prices at this resort are higher than other parts of Cuba. More importantly since covid measures have been lifted, there is no need to convert your currency into Cuban pesos. Canadian is accepted, and American preferred. If you do have Cuban currency it will not go far, so use CAN/US. Do not waste your time going to the market. The beach is by far better. Despite the heavy effect of rationing, the resort did a wonderful job with food and dining. Drinks were in good supply, however there is limited selection. Again something beyond the resorts ability to influence. We thoroughly loved the architecture and set up of the resort. During your stay you will never be more than a few hundred meters of stunning ocean.

My son and I took our first trip south to celebrate my big 5-O and my son's grade 12 a bit early. We had always heard that Cuba was affordable, super safe, with the most friendly people on earth. Well, we were not disappointed. Words cannot express how AMAZING our trip to Starfish Cayo Guillermo was!!! To be honest, it was like stepping into heaven! The beach was beyond incredible! Food was so delicious, with no shortages, and service far above 5 stars!! In fact, the executive chef, Efendi, upon finding about our celebrations, organized a special dinner for just my son and at the a-la- carte Italian restaurant. He truly went above and beyond to create this beautiful and delicious gourmet meal! We shall never forget his kindness!! Our maid, Marelis did an outanding job at keeping our room clean, well stocked, and the creative touches were appreciated. The servers were all so lovely too and attended to our every need. The entertainment manager, Nildrey help organize top talent and entertainment that was on par with what you'd expect at Las Vegas. The gardeners, Alberto and Julio also ensured I had a fresh flower to enjoy every day and did a fabulous job at maintaining the grounds!!! This unforgettable experience will be forever cherished in our scrapbook of memories. I have no idea why anyone would dare write a negative review. If so, SHAME ON YOU!!! Maybe you need a reminder that you're in a 3rd world country!! You also fail to appreciate that these dear people are doing their very best with what they have. Many work beyond 12 hours and still have to travel 2 or more hours each way to get home, only to do it all over again!! Yet they never complain and do their utmost to give us the best service ever. We can't thank everyone enough for the experience of a lifetime!!!

Great beach, food was good, resort has a ton of potential, but needs a lot of work... we had a water leak in our 1st room, and ended up in a wooden bungalow (ocean view)... but there was a rain storm through the week, and it rained in our room at least a dozen leaks, and we weren't the only ones, so we could not change rooms again. They need to do some serious on the building maintenance!!!! Also not enough cleaning staff, pool area/ snack bar was pretty cool, but not enough staff to keep it clean so plates/food left at tables, and so the birds swoop in and pooh EVERY WHERE!!!! Sorry but never again

This resort is very nice the people who work there treat you great food was good beach was awesome the girls who cleaned my room keep it spotless liked the way the bungalows were set up nice and private

We travelled as a group of 12. We had an amazing time. The beach was spectacular. Shallow waters but easy for swimming, wading and even snorkeling. Food was plentiful and lots of variety. Rooms were dated but clean and comfortable. AC always worked and lots of hot water and water pressure. Pools were clean and gorgeous. It was very windy when we went, which kept the "no see ums" down. We did have one morning when there was no wind and the biting flies were relentless. The only negatives I have is the lack of variety at the snack bar. There is only ham and cheese and fries and they often ran out for periods of time. Entertainment was good and they tried but resort was not busy enough perform the way they would have liked. Staff were good, most not overly friendly but we wonder if it is due to burn out. We had read many reviews before going and honestly I have nothing bad to say. It is a well maintained, small resort with the most amazing beach. This is definitely the right resort for the budget. If you want modern and busy this is not for you. If you want a gorgeous place with a more laid back feel this is the spot.

This resort was outstanding. The staff is incredible, they go above and beyond to help out. The food was decent and always fresh. The beach is beyond beautiful. The resort is clean and well kept! A few repairs are needed to help prevent some trips or falls. The resort is also wheel chair friendly. Thanks to the staff for a great time.

We were very impressed with the shallow clean beach and the lack of people on it! You could walk for miles and never got harassed by vendors. The resort itself is recovering from being closed do to covid and at times missing food items. We loved the morning omelettes and cappuccino at the lobby bar. Friendly staff and drinks were great! The room we had overlooked the quiet pool and didn’t have a safe to store our passports so carried them with us everywhere. The air conditioner worked great and the beds were clean! We met very nice people and really enjoyed getting away from the Canadian cold for a week making memories!

The resort was typical of most in Cuba.Outdated,old,in need of repair......all the usual things,hard beds,no hot water..broken run down things.BUT...THE FOOD WAS BEST IVE HAD IN CUBA IN APPROX.20 VISITS

The Starfish has the potential to be a great resort but.... First the good news The grounds are very well maintained and beautiful. Winding paths lined with flowering hedges. The 1 or 2 story units line the paths and some have huge "yards". All are a short walk to the beach, with some almost in the water! The food was good and with an abundance of choices. The Ala cart restaurants were fine especially considering the shortages Cuba is having (no ice cream etc.), but not all were open. Great beach! With lots of lounge chairs, not a common thing in Cuba. Very friendly, outgoing staff. The overworked staff in the Lobby Bar never failed to smile and be pleasant. The not so good. We stayed in the wooden bungalows, which we paid extra for ( on the advice of a travel agent) big mistake. They appear great with lovely settings surrounded by Palm Trees. But, they have no insulation between the two room units, (we had to be moved because of noise). They also seemed a little smaller then the tradition concrete bungalows. They are very dark inside, with inadequate lighting, to the point were we had to use flashlights to see. They also have gaps in the exterior walls which let in biting insects. We at times had to resort to bug repellent at night. We also saw what we think were an army of termites in our bathroom. Our air conditioner's controls didn’t work. (had to use the breaker box as an of/on switch). The bars, with the exception of, the very small lobby bar, all closed at 4:00 pm. Which made it very busy. We have been to Cuba many times (first time since COVID) and knew to have lower expectations, especially with the shortages they are now having, but we couldn’t help feeling let down by the lack of a little preventive maintenance here. The resort is what we want , low rise rooms on lovely grounds (you really get your steps in here). I just wish everything worked a little better, and we had tried out the older cement bungalows.

I had a great vacation, the resort is amazing, beautiful bungalows most with spectacular ocean views, great food, hard working friendly stuff, and most of all the spectacular beach, shallow warm water and miles of walking and picking seashells!

FIRST OF ALL I WISH TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO MERCEDES FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND AHMEL THE BELLMAN/GOLFCART DRIVER EXCELLENT PEOPLE WARM INVITING AND NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE FOR THESE 2 PEOPLE I SAY TIME FOR A PROMOTION FOR THESE 2 INCREDIBLY HELPFUL AT ALL TIMES AND DO THEIR JOBS WELL The resort was lovely They are doing some upgardes so it will make for some excellent improvements My room was super, air-conditioning fridge shower all working and great condition Bed was comfy room was kept lovely and clean and tidy THANKS TO THE MAID NANNI The pools were great the beach close and just lovely the pool bar and resturant was awesome Thanks to JOEY the cook AND ALEX the barman Alex's mojito and pina colada were awesome Nothing was too much trouble for them fellows The gardens are lovely so a job well done to the gardening staff I give 5 Stars for Service in all areas with the exception of the Lobby/24 hrs Bar which i give a only a 1 My only complaint was the lobby/24 hr bar The staff there were grumpy miserable and rude and several times snapped at people when they ordered It wasnt that busy that they were overwhelmed were just very unorganized They were constantly running out of glasswear and at one point one of the staff told me to go find a glass and maybe then i could have a drink And another time i got my drink but the bar person had not put the rum in it and when i pointed that out they said they had and walked away so i had a virgin pina colada lol Very much a talking point for those staying there Re training may be a good thing in that department

We just came back from this hotel, first week of October in 2022. The location of the hotel was great as it was located right by the beach. The staff were absolutely amazing, kind and welcoming. The food wasnt the greatest the first two days but it improved significantly over the course of the week. At all times, there was plenty of options in terms of meat (chicken, fish, beef, pork).As you can imagine, with the difficulties that a country like Cuba faces, there was some shortage of soap and hand sanitizer in the common areas (the soap issue did not apply to the soap in the rooms). The rooms were clean and spacious.

The resort was amazing . This is not a 5 star resort but a 3 star at best , but still very good The internet was poor only accessible in lobby I loved the layout of the place . There was lots of rooms / cottages / some with 2 levels it was simply gorgeous Cayo Coco is an Island so it was fairly secluded, which enhance the beauty of the place The entertainment was mainly at the hotel. Each night there was a plethora of shows . The Michael Jackson show was very very good the music the dancing the people all made this vacation very enjoyable One section of the resort was closed which had it's own separate pool. This I use as my own private pool as it was never busy The main pool had lots to activities for everyone for both children and adults alike This is a family oriented resort as a lot of family with children visited. I had a great time , I relaxed went to the pool when to the beach there was a boardwalk with a deck for sitting The rooms were fully air conditioned with very hot water. The only downside is the food . Bring your own seasoning and you will be ok. For non pork eaters this was a major issue as everything practically had pork in it. So ask what's in it before you eat. Go for the beach, the sunshine and the people and to lose weight cause the food is the worse Other than that it is a very nice resort clean friendly staff. The cons far out weight the bad stuff Enjoy

I have often travelled to Cuba,mainly to Varadero and Holguin. Cayo Coco, this time was my first trip there and my first mistake was booking for only 1 week. Starfish Cayo Guillermo was just perfect. ALL employees at the hotel contributed to the extremely pleasant and welcoming atmosphere of the hotel. Every employee that I had contact with always had a smile and always polite. When I thanked one of the employees, the reply was "We are here to serve". That seems to be the all round motto there. My room was garden view, very near to the beach. Room is very pleasant and well equipped. Hotel and surroundings are very well kept, clean and tidy. Beach was great. There was never a problem finding a lounge chair at the beach. Food was good. I did not go hungry and I think I ate too much most meals. I will definitely be returning to this resort. Just an ending note, I have always believed good & happy employees reflect on Good management. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay at Starfish Cayo Guillermo.

The resort was well maintained and beautifully groomed the wooden bungalow was dated but comfortable.the dining was above what I expected . staff were friendly and helpful .the beaches were pristine The resort seam isolated. The neoseams flies were terrible for me but not my wife.

I would recommend this resort to anyone! Great Beach! Great service! Food is your typical fare, you will not starve. Bed was great! The four la carte restaurants were amazing. The food was so good! I loved the little townhouses all around the property! We booked Superior ocean view and we got superior ocean view. Our walk out patio, ground floor, 5 feet from the ocean! Can't ask for anything better! Only wrinkle was Sunwing and the long delay in our flight home...

We had a very relaxing holiday at this hotel. The service is excellent. A big THANK YOU to all the people that made our vacation special. We have been to Cuba 11 times and we love this kind of place. Not too big and not too complicated. Awesome entertainment team. We really enjoyed Cuban Day Barbecue in between the pool and beach at lunch and the Barbecue dinner at the pool side with saxophone player plus 3 nights à la carte restaurant (Cuban, Italian and Spanish). The buffet was excellent too. Mucho Bueno! We are hoping to go back next year.

The Club Cayo Guillermo, aka Grand Caribe, was the first resort on Cayo Guillermo and even though we picked it because it was the cheapest, it turned out to be a very good resort. Sure some of the stuff was dated but the sun was hot, sand was great, the ocean warm, and the staff (most of them) were awesome. The food was good too - but like all resorts limited in its selections and the repetitive identical menu was due to limited availability. They had a Cuban Day where there had an authentic outdoor pig roast and Cuban meal and festival. We asked for and got a duplex with adjoining rooms near the ocean with deck. This was a 3 star resort with 5 star service and class, lots of smiles and warm welcomes. We plan on returning here next year. Our 3 teenagers also came with us and had a great time at the beach or in the pool. The only they missed from another resort we visited 2 years ago was a pool bar. Cuba has the nicest, friendliest, and warm hearted people and the best beashes anywhere.

Amazing beach, wonderful staff and tons of entertainment. Resort is older but charming. Gym equipment was broken and plumbing wasn’t the best but overall had a great week. There is a dolphin exhibit within walking distance and the flamingos were right next door. Good value for your money

Food was really good,but was bit cold if you go late.service was fantastic.Bar,the beach,all was perfect.Hop on,hop off bus was very convenient to see some places.The playa plara beach was the best I have ever seen,which was 10 minutes ride from our resort

Gran Caribe was a great surprise for our family. The beach is wonderful, the pools are really good and our rooms were comfortable enough. Above all, the people who works there are the nicest you can ever meet. Do not forget to taste the great dishes being served on their new restaurant on dinner time.

Old resort run down no hot water for a week,broken patio door inscects galore and the mosquitos were hell.I had over 200 bite on the 2 day,By the way I had insect repellant.After 2 weeks I had over 500 bites no joke.I was itching and scratching the whole time.The staff were rude and expecting tips all the time or you get the side look.My vacation was a disaster.I could not wait to get home the only good thing was the weather.Sorry for the spelling errors.

First of all this is not a good resort if you want to swim. The water is knee deep for approximately 300 yards offshore. I found a spot after walking approximately 2km,deep enough to swim but the current was very strong parallel with the shore. The place is good for kite boarding. Food not great, not terrible either 3/5. Room not bad, clean, hot water and a/c available 4/5. Resort did not have map of some kind, or an envelope for key card and other documents. Money exchange did not give any paper for the exchange. Resort 3/5. Employees friendly 5/5. Beach was very hard in some areas, probably coral with no sand. Ocean vegetation most of the time, a tractor was trying to remove it everyday but only partially succeeded. Beach 3/5. Water nice and warm, nice color when no vegetation, not good for swimming, very good for kites. Water 4/5

The grounds were very nice and the rooms pretty good. Food was much better. Unfortunately the room staff wasn’t as good as the last time we were there. A couple times we didn’t get any towels and water. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar staff was very good except one would give to his friend before other customers and I heard him say this to a customer waiting. We booked the adults only section and people brought their kids to the pool and restaurant. I thought this was wrong as we paid extra for adults only. But overall was a nice holiday.

Thanks Karol. You were a total star throughout the entire process and ALL my questions. This was my third trip to this hotel since May 2019. New management have really improved the place. All buildings have been painted, foods better. Animation team are outstanding. Amazing people.

We stayed in a wooden bungalow with a nice view of the ocean. The resort was half empty during our stay so it was very quiet. The food was typical Cuban fare but there was a decent selection so we never went hungry. The staff were excellent and the check in check out process was painless. Our flight arrived a bit late and they kept the buffet open so we could eat when we arrived.

The hotel itself was not the most modern had a few problems with septic and little black bugs in the room , but the staff was very very friendly , advertised on website were non motorized water sports included well supersize supersize one hr of kite surfing is 150.00 insane price 70 cuc to rent a catamaran and 40 cuc to rent a kayak not a darn thing free except beach towel ,. anything you want to do for fun to go see or to do cost a fortune kinda messed up seeing its a poor country one would think price would be much much less ,aside from that the food was decent not top shelf but okay .

We had a wonderful time at the Gran Caribe Club Cayo Guillermo. The resort is an older resort but extremely well maintained. The grounds were well maintained and clean. The pools crystal clear. The beach beautiful with the ability to walk in both directions quite far. It is a beach frequented by kite surfers so lots to watch! The main pool has a wonderful pool bar with an excellent grille for hamburger, fries, etc. The drinks great. My favourite place - the lobby bar and cafe had wonderful coffees and drinks and live Cuban entertainment every evening. The buffet was very good and although my expectations of the food were very low going into the trip I was very pleasantly surprised. There were two a la carte restaurants that rotated between Italian, Asian and Mediterranean and every meal proved to be amazing. Our room was well equipped with towels, toilet paper and an ongoing supply of bottled water - no issues. The staff at this resort were extremely friendly and we got a real sense of family feel with them. We met "George" who looks like George Clooney at the 2nd pool and he and the young bartender/server that he worked with (I forget his name) were amazing. We also loved Michael and Alex who were part of the Entertainment Team whom we loved. We took the hop on/hop off bus and went to Pilar Beach for 5 pesos. We also had an amazing lunch there ... check out the lobster. The best part of this trip actually was meeting some amazing couples (most of whom have visited Cuba and this particular resort several times). We have met friends that we will hopefully keep in touch and have for life. The hotel is in the process of changing ownership ... and they were doing ongoing surveys to obtain feedback from the guests on what could be done better. I am not sure if it was just the season ... but we did experience some "no see em" bites so bring some mosquito spray -

Excellent staff who welcomes all like family. Grounds are immaculate. Beach is clean, lots of chairs and gorgeous clear water. Excellent kite school with lessons available. Kiting here is the best location in Cayo Coco/Cayo Guillermo. Great value for the price.

This trip was amazing, Gran Caribe Cayo Guillermo has gone from a good place to spend vacation to exceptionally good service and even more beautiful grounds. Enjoyed it enormously. I have been there quite a few times before, the location is like no other, the beach is a gem, the water so welcoming warm, the people that work there have always been incredible and the new management is making it a memorable vacation experience.

Our travel dates were from sept 27-oct 4th This resort, for the slow end of the season was well above any expectations I had before leaving!. I have been to cuba in the past, but usually during a busier time of year. All aspects of the gran caribe were attended to! Rooms, food, staff and grounds keeping.. bravo!! Xoxo One note to adventurers: because this is an island resort, the 'resort' excursions are at a minimal unless you travel to the mainland! Even as an adventurer myself, I would highly recommend this Resort

The resort was beautiful, clean, and maintained. The buffet seemed a bit limited at times, maybe because it was a slower week, however the food was always good! The staff was phenomenal, super friendly, always helpful, and cheerful, we cant say enough about the staff.

I will start with the positives beach 🏖 amazing. Pools were good. Most of the staff were happy and friendly. Had a great excursion to Moron etc. The resort is in total disrepair except the lobby and bar area and buffet. The rooms need severe help. The response to issues was pathetic. No water sometimes at the whole resort. Stayed in a bungalow, it was dark and the shower had issues, tv had issues, safe was busted. Extra pillows in the closet were revolting. No mini bar as advertised just a fridge. Ended up moving to another room which was better but no hot water. Patio door was broken. Food was absolutely awful except surprisingly on our last night they had food we could eat. Then came the surveys to our table. That was annoying. They can make good if they wanted to. Next day it was same old. They would not serve wine sometimes at the bar claiming to run out but had 40 plus bottles in plain site. The 24 hour snack bar closed at 5 pm every day. We both got sick from the food and had to miss an excursion. Simply not as advertised.

Good place to kiting. Beach is clean. Personnel is gentle. Pool was clean. The buffet place too but the quality of food was very poor. Many times it was warm or cold. My room was ok. But in many rooms was bugs water on the floor conditioner air difficulties. Many bugs on the resort

If you are looking for a laid back resort, with few fellow tourists, this might be the resort for you. This is our 12th visit to Gran Garibe, and we have returned, not so much for the resort, but for the people that are employed there. We love the Staff. We try and get one of the older bungalows right down by the beach. The buildings are the oldest on the resort, but what the heck, they are right on the beach... If you are looking for 4 or 5 star accommodations, then this is not for you. The resort had around 120 guest when we were there May 1st. You can always find something to eat - Breakfast, always the best, lunch, try the pool bar, supper, try the Italian Restaurant - limited menu , but good. We go for the beach, you can walk from Gran Caribe all the way down to the Sol - 6kms.

If you are traveling on a budget this is a good resort. Very quiet and it almost feels like a private beach. Resort is clean. If you are looking to party or meet young people this is not the place to be. The staff was friendly for the most part. Be prepared that food will not be of high quality.

The beach was great. One of the best spots for swimming and watching the Kite Surfers. The food was not the greatest, and I basically had to get into an argument with one of the maids to get her to give me a freakin roll of toilet paper. Other than that the staff was SO awesome. Very friendly. The landscapers do an amazing job and work so hard. The tennis courts are falling apart and there was no beach volleyball so that was a bit disappointing. The gym was pretty run down too. Overall, it's a fun place if you're into drinking and lounging around the pool.

We were really happy in this beach and we were having fun with the people and the stuff were nice and helpful. The food was very clean and good. I recommed people to go to this this place and relax their mind.

We stayed at the resort for 7 days and enjoyed the entertainment every night! From the shows to the discos we were super impressed! We stayed in the wooden bungalow which was beautiful! And enjoyed amazing food from morning to night! Not to mention the people were kind and so helpful! And the landscape and beach had the most gorgeous view you could ask for! Hotel it is rather dated but the staff and the ambiance is really nice to relax and have a good time, I paid a steal for 4 days with mom and sister and we had low expectations from the start. The rooms are dated and TV has one channel, bed sheets were clean but not changed everyday, you have to take them off and put on the floor for them to change it.The pressure of the water in the bathroom was awesome no issues and the AC worked well. Food honestly, it was not that good but it's not like they do not have all the ingredients to make it awesome but they juts need to season their food before grilling it. I would take the soy sauce from the buffet and give it to the cook to season my fish before grilling. I stayed away from chicken and beef as it is taken raw and out on the grill in front of you.I did not go to cuba or chose this hotel for the food but because it was very affordable and for the beach. Excursions: we did the sailboat and snorkeling and it was awesome!!!\ we also took the double Decker bus to the market but really it's the ride that is awesome but nothing exciting at the market that you cannot get at the store at the hotel or at the airport when flying out. I would go back for the same price for sure with my husband bit not with my kids. Honestly if you get a great deal and go with low expectations you will have fun.

We have been to Cuba before so we know what to expect. We tried to give this resort the benefit of the doubt. But you can decide for yourself: Pros: beautiful beach, cleanest of the strip. Great if you like wading – not for swimming though. Missy does great braiding and Junior not only makes a great omelette, he actually can fry two eggs – lightly over – without breaking the yokes (must be a special skill in Cuba). Missy, Junior, and most of the non-management staff were friendly and made you feel welcome. Both pools looked clean Cons: we were eaten alive by mosquitoes – they seem to even like the insect repellent – we are Canadian we know mosquitoes – these were unbelievable and we were not the only ones with welts all over our bodies. getting a table that had cutlery was touch and go and how cutlery and glass wear were cleaned is disgusting (you don't want to know what happens behind the screens) I can handle cats coming and going when it's an open air buffet, but both buffets are closed, but the cats are allowed to wander in and out and all around. These are not pets, they are 'wild' and most likely have fleas etc... we are certain the Cuban people eat better food than they served in the buffets only one bartender to service the entire resort between 6:30ish and 8ish pm. This poor guy has to service EVERYONE – alcohol and coffee drinks – average wait in line 10 minutes. We were never offered beach towels – good thing we brought our own Shower head was at a fixed level of 8 feet so you have to take it down to use it and then any water that happened to hit the wall flooded the floor tub wouldn't drain – not even over night we had bugs in the tub when we arrived – more to follow on that. The air conditioner poured out water and wasn't fixed until our second complaint we had no housekeeping in our second room – the room they gave us due to the photos TV's in both our first room and our second room had to be fixed drapes in both rooms were old and torn and large gaps under the doors allow lizards free range we had a VERY valid complaint about a flying insect infestation in our room on day 5 and had to fight to get a new room – we were given the impression they thought we were exaggerating and said it was because of a weather change - until we showed them the photos (unable to download them here). Still took over 2 hours to get the new room The room new room was supposedly ocean front – well, after you walked though the kite school, it was. Housekeeping in first room didn't happen until around 5pm – then not at all in second room. Many of the staff work 16 to 18 hour days – everyday and it shows my husband got a better exchange rate than I did despite the fact that I was next in line Needless to say, we would NOT recommend this resort under any circumstances. We have written to Sunwing, Sercotel, and Iberostar to let the know of our experience. Waiting to see if either company replies

I liked the feel of the resort. The little cottages make it a nice atmosphere There were some mosquitos but I managed them ok. (Off) the food was good always something to eat just not a lot of variety. Dinner plates were an issue never enough. If you asked for something you needed it was arranged. Beach was beautiful and not busy at my end of the resort near the adults only section. A very relaxing environment

The resort says they have in-room safe's, and a mini-bar fridge. Not true at all. I had to hid my passport, visas, monies, cellphone behind a headboard hoping they would not be discovered. As for camera and laptop I had to lock them in my suitcase hoping that wouldn't walk away. The patio door had simple bolt locks that if you were to kick the door in you could. I never felt safe. The resort was busy and the staff was limited. Very long waits at the buffet. So early mornings if you were about walking you would see garbage's overfilled and litter everywhere, dirty tables from spilt drinks, dirty lobby. Overflowing public washroom was a recurring theme. Forget about your sheets being washed. As for the rooms they may have swept them and even mopped them but they were not disinfected. I got travellers diarrhea and I picked up a parasite which is extremely painful. I didnt stay my full two weeks.

The beach, the water, and the staff were wonderful. They need to put some more money in the lodging rooms. Too many things that are not working. We reserved a wooden bungalow which was cute but the safe did not work, the bureau drawer were broken and the refrigerator was not working. Fortunately, we could change our room which was better. This could be a 4 star with a little more investment. The landscaping and flowers were beautiful. Not enough choice for the food. Need more vegetables and salads( lettuce) With a little more Financial investment this could be an amazing hotel. Not sure we would come back.

Would not rate this as a 3 Star resort. We understood there was an ownership change at the beginning of the year so hoped they would be on their game. Very tired looking rooms and lobby/restaurant. We called it the “line up “ hotel. You lined up and waited a long time for food and had to wait when they ran out of plates and glasses ( an everyday occurrence). Over 300 rooms and only one machine for coffee. I waited over 20 minutes on more than one occasion for a single coffee. Wine was only available in the buffet restaurant which had limited hours. The staff were very helpful but the resort is understaffed. Pool and beach were perfect. We have travelled to many areas and resorts in Cuba and this one was the first to disappoint.

The resort was very beautiful nice beach but not good for swimming as it was to shallow,the service was not great the food was crap and there were always long lineups, they didn’t serve drinks after 2 am even tho it says 24 out of 24 hours couldn’t even get a bottle of water, the rooms were really nice but my toilet did not work and I asked them 3 times to fix it but no one showed up to fix it. I do not regret going there, it was still a great time!

Overall, i thoroughly enjoyed my time at this resort. I especially loved the bungalow style as opposed to typical hotel /resort style. My only downsides were the air conditioning in the bungalow didn't work and no one came to fix it during the week i was there despite 3 phone calls as well as there being a fridge in the room but neither did it work . all in all , minor inconveniences except for the air conditioning. opened the patio door for a nice breeze but then the cats came in.

1- the hotel is small 2- room is good, but the shower was not because the drain was very slow and was flood every time when you take a shower 3- the view was very nice on the beech. 4- public area was very small 5- dining area was small as well. 6- very simple theater 7- the gym was so bad( from all the machines only 2 was working, the room, shower toilet were very dirty and not usable as well as the sauna was not working. it dose not look like a gym at all.same think for gun shoot area 8- billiard hhhhhh was very old same the ping pong. also was not organized hardly you can find the responsible person to take you to those activities. 9-griled bar was not good and there was only one person to service which was not enough . there more but that is enough. take care

All the staff are very friendly and do a good job to make your stay a wonderful time. Clean resort good rooms. food and drinks were also good.lets not forget the fantastic beach they have so you can enjoy the sun and all the fun there is to do there.

Have been to this resort about a dozen times in the past for kiteboarding and don’t expect much but this trip the water in rooms was only available less than half the time ( no flushing, no showers, no clean sheets or towels ). The food also seems to have dropped in quality/ selection. If it was 3 stars before ... it 2 stars now.

The hotel itself is really run down but with that said our room was clean and over in the quiet part of the resort! We loved that we had our own pool! The food was ok, it’s cuba so don’t think your going to have 5 star quality food but you won’t go hungry. The staff was for the most part very nice with exception of the girl bartender in the lobby! Never smiled and it seemed like we were bothering her when we needed a drink! Other then that we had an awesome trip! Weather was amazing for all 14 days!! We paid $875 for 2 weeks, for that price I would go back again! I would never pay more then that to go there again! I love Cuba!

My family and I have been to Cuba quite a few times. This was without a doubt the worst resort we've ever stayed at. Service, Food, Amenities, Beach were horrible. Save your money, go somewhere else in Cuba.

I am reminded of the, "village the of small huts", where from very comfortable and clean accommodations the views of El Mar are breath taking and the sand & sea go on forever, Siempre! The linens & towels were plentiful and refreshed daily with the added touch of "towel art" with hibiscus! ensconced on the bed different every day...so creative. There is a lot of walking getting from here to there so mobility should be good. It feels like wilderness there but good for small children with the shallow water extending 100 metres from flat pristine wide long white sand beaches. Night walks are dreamy. It's a great place where everything works well. Especially great for kite surfing and snorkeling via small sailboat.

I have been a regular visitor to this hotel for the past 9 years. The staff have become part of my family.... I am always treated as a VIP guest. Upgraded to beach front rooms /bungalows /suites. All personal needs met beyond expectations... In my opinion, this resort and rooms provide the best guest services and staff of all the hotels I have visited in Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. Lolita and other staff have become good friends.. I consider Lolita my little sister. I have had the honor in sharing in some great happy memories with her and her family on the resort and also in their home towns of city. The staff know me by name and welcome me every time I come to visit....This is my Paradise away from home where I am always happy to share my time and vacation with my Cuban families and friends...My heart is with Sercotel..

I like this resort it is a 3 star and the price is great the people are friendly and the food is good it is quiet but there is lots too do I have been there 8 times in 6 years so for me it’s like going home

The beach was beautiful . The food on the other hand was unedible. I basically didn’t eat for a week. The resort had limited drinks as well . They didn’t even have tequila ... I would ask for a pina colada and half the time they didn’t have it. The bungalow was really nice except our ceiling was leaking brown fluid. Was glad the beach was nice because it definitely made up for the poor service and bad food.

No snack bar after 6 PM. No light in the hallway or front yard. Very hard to find room in the dark.. Soap not supplied whole week in the room. Lots of bed bugs...........................................

Hotel and grounds were ok, beach was beautiful food can always be better. No night life outside the resort - no where to go. Half day trip to nearest city of Moron is not worth it. I hate the fact that everything that you do, everywhere you go, there is an expectation to give tips. Even for going to public toilet. Bring another $200 just for tips

We had a fantastic room right on the ocean! The food was descent and they had fresh fish, veggies and fruits, the beef stew was also good. The only annoying thing was that they did not have soda water, ran out of tonic water and vodka.

I was at Sercotel June 12-19 of 2018. 1. Road… I traveled with SUNWING and had no serious problems. On the way back I was kicked off your room at 12 pm, while having an actual taking off at 12 am. I advise to plan this time extra carefully. Shatter bus takes about an hour. 2. Weather… was nearly perfect, 32C at midday and 22C at sunrise. Some wind and some rain were presented, just a bit, just for contrast. 3. Beach… is really close from every room. Smooth and bold sandy strip is around 100 meters wide. Water is very clean and clear, surf is mild. One real drawback is shallowness. I had to walk 100 meters or so in the water just to start swimming, it less than 1 meter. But this is perfect for small kids. 4. Room… I changed rooms once. Air-conditioner (AC) didn’t work at my first room, and it had no remote neither other possibility to control AC in my second room. Shortly speaking, there was no TV in my room. Other people had problems too. I advise to check carefully everything in your room BEFORE you start unpacking. I had a free safety box. 5. Room again… There are 2-storey small cottages. Most of the rooms have balconies or patios. Rooms are concrete boxes and need AC severely. I had actual hot water all the time. Bugs weren’t a real problem. The bed was pretty good. 6. Food…It was 4 stars food by Cuban standard. It is a way better than I actually need, by mine standard: freshly cooked fresh beef, pork, chicken and 2-3 kind of fish, some fruits and vegetables, rice, potato, pasta, bread, some dairy. They also have a lot of mixtures of who knows of what. I never care. No a-la carte. 7. Evening show…As per my view it was pretty good, but I am not big lover. 7. Bars…. Lobby bar was open non-stop and had coffee, beer and local booze. Bar at the pool worked in the daytime only. Despite of many critics in this forum, snack bars was working a way above average. You can actually eat there from12pm to 5pm. It is rare thing from my Cuban experience. 8. Pool….Has several bodies, including one for small kids. It looks clean and well maintained. All the chaise lounges are new and clean (including beach’s ones). As usual, almost no shadow around the pool. 9. Conclusion…it is 4 stars Cuban resort, it needs renovation here and there, but not that bad, not that bad at all. You should go there if tropic sun, sea and some comfort is your goal. But it is definitely not a vanity fair. 10. Tripcentral gave me a very good price.

Overall, the trip was good. It was a wonderful experience. However, I was disappointed in my room. My room was filled with ants. As there was a big space under my bedroom door leading to the outside, I had crabs, lizards and frogs in my room. When we had tropical rains, water came in through the bottom of the door and in through the walls. It was very unsettling. On my return to Canada, one of the stewards on the plane was very rude to my family and I. His name was Joe. Other than that, things were fine.

The resort was beautiful. The staff works really hard and do their best to please everyone. I was not impressed with the food. As a vegetarian I usually can always find something to eat. The food was bland and there was very little choice. They ran out of eggs. Lizards and frogs were in may of the rooms.

The hotel is correct, the service is poor. It was hard to get a cup oof coffee in the morning... in fact, it was hard to get cups and glasses... The rooms are due for repairs, but it probably won't happen. The good point is the location and the beach. It is perfect to learn kitesurfing! The ware is clear, the view is amazing!

Booked last minute no time to research, after 30+ visits to Cuba this one was the worst hotel. Food was acceptable but lack of plumbing, towels, cutlery, one bottle of water as per hotel policy per week and awful service in the buffet and not the generally good vibe you get in Cuba I wouldn’t recommend. Not fussy but expect the necessities would rate it a 3.5 out of 10.

My family just returned from this resort and we had a wonderful time. The staff was friendly and very welcoming. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable and the star rating is accurate. This hotel and area has come a long way after recovering from the hurricane. If you are looking for a smaller resort with a beautiful view and are not fussy with perfection, this is the place. We met so many nice people from so many different countries. The staff are what truly made thus vacation extra special.

It was our second time in this hotel. On our first trip I found the beach small, but beautiful, charming, picture perfect. Now the beach is expanded, well, there is much more space for kite surfers, but overall look somehow is not as mesmerizing as before. The hotel was repainted and the colors are not so cheerful. The other areas of the hotel are the same. This is "good value for your money" hotel, not luxury resort. The pleasant surprise came when some of the staff remembered us (after 3 years) and we got treated to special dinner: very good menu and live music. It is a pity that the pink flamingos are gone after hurricane Irma. They were beautiful. There is only a few pelicans and white herons left. Vegetation also suffered a lot. Not so many palm trees left, other trees were almost naked, new growth is starting slowly.

I'll be kind and blame most of my issues with this hotel on the fall Hurricanes. The trees and landscapes were awful. The lawn was knee high. Flowers and leaves were coming back ! We booked the privilege + section with wooden bungalows. The Club section was closed. The room was the worse I've ever seen. The drawers wouldn't close. The gaps above and below the doors let the rain come in flooding the room. The toilet paper holder was all rusted. We showered with our flip flops on because the bath floor was filthy. Since the hurricanes, the agriculture in all Cuba suffered. The buffet had very little fruit and vegetables. We would have to wait about 15 minutes to get a fork. Spoons are non-existant so why bother putting out yogurt and cereals ?? There's a smell in the buffet that was sometimes unbearable. On the bright side, the views of the ocean are amazing throughout the resort. It's a kite surfer paradise. This means it's windy and water is very shallow. Don't expect to swim at this beach. You can only roll in the sand. There's maybe 1'-2' of water. I met a couple that was on their 15th visit to this resort and they swore they would never go back. I won't for sure...ever !

I thought this place was pretty fantastic for the price I paid. I did not expect 5 star, but I certainly wasn’t disappointed st all. I had an amazing room, great maid service, always something really good to eat... and lady but not least? Sand, surf, and sunshine.... how much more do you need.

I had booked my vacation for 1 week and ended up staying for 2. The manager, Edourdo was very helpful as were the Sunwing rep and the resort doctor who helped me get an extra week of meds that I needed. The food was generally good and exceptional on seafood night. My room was clean and the maids were awesome about leaving extra water, towels or toilet paper if asked. To the people who complain about this place, I would like to remind them that this is Cuba. They are very poor and are trying very hard to overcome the devastation of the hurricane that hit them a few short months ago. I applaud them. ''They don't have a proper pasta bar'' was a complaint i heard often... get over it!!! The pools were kept immaculately clean, as were the grounds, the restaurants and the beach. The bar staff, desk staff, maids and even the gardeners were friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be back.

This place was under staff. Rms not in good shape. Buffet a mess Hugh line ups. Not enough plates ect... would not recommended this resort . Elvis at adult pool very friendly he was a pleasure also Loylota at front reservation was nice n helpful other than that no stood out. Buffet food always a mess didn't spray for sand flys or mosquitos every day people getting bites a lot.

The cabin was very nice and workers were pleasent but the resteraunt and bar ran out of cups and plates and beer on numerous accations . it was hard to find something to eat with. There were 3 dogs on the resort that hung out around our cabin and woke me up fighting and growling and barking every night. It made it hard to sleep.

This was our first trip to Cayo Guillermo and so soon after the hurricane. We were delighted to see the resort was in great condition and we had a wonderful time. You could see the desolation left after the hurricane everywhere. The staff were very friendly even though they seemed short handed in some areas. The bars were very busy but the staff handled this very professionally. Daniel in customer service was very helpful and informative. We travelled with WestJet and our rep was very knowledgeable. The buffet was very good with lots of choices at each meal. The Ala Carte's were wonderful. All things considered we had a great time. I would definitely travel to Sercotel Club Cayo Guillermo again and recommend this resort if you are looking for a small, friendly and relaxing vacation resort.

I would like everyone to know that everything was great. They have done so much work in such a short period of time. The staff was wonderful and I couldn’t have asked for a better time. This is the second time we have been to this resort and they have done so much to make us have a great vacation. I would like to thank all the staff for giving us a great vacation experience.

I love this place have been 7 times with my husband and grandaughter the kids club is great.The food is great always something to eat. Its a small resort and i like that.The shows at night are great.The staff is so freindly.Its Cuba and I dont expect alot from them they have what they have.

Wonderful location- close to airport and rooms are located right on the beach. recommend the "high rise type of room" as opposed to smaller chalet type. Room was clean though, no remote for tv, or a/c and fridge did not work. Smaller resort so no long walks to dining hall. Usual pool activities and evening entertainment. Food is not great- not much variety and in fact I was quite unwell until getting some antibiotics. If you go for the beach and the sun- great! beyond that... well... maybe not

We were prepared for a three star, as advertised, since we were only going to be there for a few days, we could have handled boring food, or smaller accommodations. But we were almost at the end of our rope after only just one day! If you were lucky enough to find a bartender that could mix a drink, they probably didn't have the ingredients required (e.g. - there was no wine at all). The husband loves authentic Cuban mojitos and only got one on the first night. After that when he asked, they just shook their head 'no'. We stayed in one of the older, smaller bungalows and there were numerous gaps to the outside and we ended up absolutely COVERED in bug bites. The bed broke for no apparent reason - it was likely already broken and band-aided together. The air conditioner kept shutting off for periods of time and we couldn't make it come back on, like maybe they programed it that way. There was a key to the safe that also required a code, which was the room number (given on the tag) plus the letter A - so everyone's were the same, don't lose it! We actually left the breakfast buffet one morning because there was almost nothing left and it was only halfway through service. I thought a juice and a coffee would do the trick but the juice was all gone and so were the coffee cups. The only table service we saw the whole time was at the a la carte. Speaking of buffet, in the 7 times we've been to Cuba, we have never had to stand in line to wait for a table to get in to the buffet. We asked for an a la carte for our last evening and they were reluctant to give it because they don't like to have to re-set the tables. We insisted that we didn't mind waiting and that it was our last night after all and she allowed it. The after hours snack bar was a basket of ham and cheese sandwiches sitting out on a table - we didn't try any of those. There was garbage blowing around everywhere. There were no wifi cards for the first two days. So for this and other similar things, they wanted us to walk down the beach to the next resort and get what we need from them. I asked if we were allowed to use their services too, but no. Maybe during peak season they have a two star capacity but this was more like a 1 star. Someone seriously needs to re-evaluate this resort's star rating.

Staff and service is very good ,Awesome kitesurf spot, Shallow and flat water perfect for kids The location is quite nice. The staff on the main lobby helpful. Night show is very nice. Food in buffet restaurant is clean and fresh and multi choice.

Our stay was good with a few inconveniences. The hotel operations were moved from the prestige side to the main hotel mid week, however the main pool was still closed and we had to make with the smaller one, therefore we were not able to enjoy it. The service was great and the food good; I would however recommend that the food could be covered at the restaurant due to flies.

Have been to this area a number of times and it seems every time we go they have made changes for the better. The staff here were great and kept the resort looking good, the gardens and the common areas are very well kept to bad some of the guests don't seem to have the decency to pick up after themselves. It's really not hard to pick up your plastic cups and throw them in the bin. Weather was great and the beach is looking great lots of walks to take and see the area, Hop on hop off bus was fun too met some lovely visitors from England and spent some time visiting with them, We look forward to our next trip to this area. Go with an open mind and expectations and just relax and enjoy That's my motto

The Hotel itself is nice. It's has a beautiful beach and close access to the inland waterways (channels, mangroves, fishing, snorkelling and Kayaking opportunities). Our disappointments were brought on by the following: 1) Upon arrival we learned that 3/4 of the hotel had been closed. The open section was a 5-10 min walk from the main lobby in what would, under normal circumstances, be the Adults only section. We were given a couple of reasons for the main section being closed...slow season...renovations. Because of this closure, many of the activities that we specifically chose this hotel for, were unavailable. No Kayaks, pedal boats, sail boats, scooters or car rentals. Additionally, many of the shops, bars and restaurants were closed. This type of situation should be communicated prior to arrival giving guests the opportunity to opt out. 2) On the morning of our 2nd day, the water supply to the entire resort shutoff. We were told it would be back up and running in an hour. This did not happen. The water was off for 4 days coming on sporadically for maybe an hour on three of the days and on the 4th day it came back on fully but only at a trickle and without enough pressure to make it to the shower head..Every time the water would come on, some other issue with the supply system would break down. Each day we enquired and each day we were told the same thing...back on in 30 mins or 1.5 hours etc etc...Again, communication is the key here. We felt like we were just being given lip service to get us to go away. Management of this resort needs to be forthcoming with their clientele. It was obvious that they knew this was a major issue...we should have been moved to another resort shortly after this issue began. There was no assistance by management for guests. At a minimum, provide buckets of water to each room to flush toilets instead of leaving us to our own devices. We had to carry the garbage can from our room to the pool and back to flush the toilet. Days without shaving or showering the ever accumulating bug spray, sweat and sunscreen, not to mention the deterioration of sanitary conditions at the resort...no fresh towels, no means to do laundry or wash dishes, common area toilets not being flushed and piling up. Atrocious odours prevailing. 3) Food - We found the food to be quite good. The issue was that without water, how were things being cleaned. The bar had a bucket of water in the sink. Glasses were being used, rinsed in the buck then but back on the shelf for re-use. Witnessed a plate being dried with a dish cloth, worker using the same cloth to wipe their forehead, then continuing to dry. As a result of the aforementioned dwindling sanitary conditions, we did not eat well after the first two days limiting to things that we deemed safe such as packaged food and or bananas and the like. 4) Atmosphere...This again is as a result of the above conditions. What would normally be friendly discussions in the common areas turned in to none stop complaining. Most of the guest were booked through Sunwing and were moved to another resort. We were not moved and are in the process of seeking compensation. 5) Bug bites during sleep. A common problem among the guests. Again a source of many complaints around the common areas. Through research, the bites appear to be from sand fleas. May be a result of poor cleaning of rooms? Had to wear bug spray to bed. Many repeat guests to Cuba, some that had been there over 40 times, said they have never experienced this condition. Several sought medical aid due to adverse reactions. 6) Other items that were a nuisance but not the contributing factors to our miss-content. Refrigerator didn't work in room. Reported but nothing done. Shower head bracket support broke and curtain rod came down. Reported and it was repaired. A lot of garbage visible in areas surrounding the resort. In conclusion, management communication and professionalism is lacking at this resort. Staff in general were very friendly and inviting.This place has the potential to be very nice. The word on the street is that ownership of this resort has changed hands several times in recent history. Customer service does not appear to be a high priority. A lot of beer being funnelled into the kitchen and off to staff in empty 1.5 L pop bottles and other large open containers. I would not return here without significant proof of improvements.

1. Wooden Bungalows: we were a group of four - two rooms adjoined and had our very own "space" - our own cabin! with a balcony on each room. Air conditioning worked in one of the rooms - so we left the door opened and it kept both rooms comfortable. The sheets were never changed but the bed was made up everyday. The curtains were stained and places in the ceramic chipped. The toilets worked and the water ran both hot and cold. There was tiny ants in the room all week. Just on the floor. It was very adequate, but not a four star resort. 2. Beach: the beach was a short walk down the board walk from our front door - a very short walk, and we could see the ocean from the front steps of our cabin. The beach is shallow, but the colours are beautiful. There are layers of blues and greens and the area we were at on the resort (far away toward the east) was quiet and at the border of the Kyte surfing so we didn't have to deal with out of control boards. (Close to the adult only section.) 3. Food: we found something at every meal that we could fill our plates with. One person in our group was gluten and dairy intolerant and ate really well! (Its the FIRST resort in Cuba that I didn't get the runs.). It wasn't luxurious. It didn't have loads of daily variety, but there was always fresh meat to be grilled infront of us, fresh fish, personal pizzas - and omelettes made to order in the morning. It was a good resort if you're in need of a break and aren't the super fussy type. If little things bother you (having to go to the bar for bottled water when they forget to leave it in your room, or extra toilet paper at the front desk if they run out - or if it would bother you to be served a drink in plastic cups at the bar instead of in a glass), this is not the place for you. If these things wouldn't bother you, you'll love it. THE NIGHTLY ENTERTAINMENT was really good. (But, I like live music ...) The resort wasn't "amazing." It was good. People were friendly, and IF you were kind to the staff they were very kind to you.
