The hotel is a very short drive from the airport in a busy commercial area. It is dated and in need of repair. It is said that there are six restaurants to choose from but in reality there is one buffet with poor quality American style food that runs out shortly after opening, an Italian restaurant with food that churned my stomach that was only open on occasion and a Mexican restaurant that was not open once in our week long stay. There is a food truck that serves the entire resort during lunch time and again caters to those who prefer American hot dogs and burgers. There is one pool that is crowded by 8am where there are loud classes (aquafit, zumba, games) hosted throughout the day so consider if this is your scene. Bring noise cancelling headphones if you prefer to read quietly. Our first room had broken A/C and faced the loud evening entertainment and we were upgraded without issue to a larger decent room. Unfortunately we found a cockroach crawling on our bed one night which made it hard to enjoy for the remainder of the stay. The staff were great except when it came to the cockroach situation. We asked for a later checkout which was given to us by one staff member but clearly not communicated to anyone else as when we returned to our room we were locked out and the staff were quite rude about it. The one positive is that the view was gorgeous but overall we would not recommend this resort.

Very nice resort , excellent service nice clean room and very good maid service , we really enjoyed our 2 weeks vacation. This is the resort we stayed on our first vacation to Puerto Vallarta , used to be Holiday Inn.

We really enjoyed our week at the sunscape with our grandaughter beautiful pool lovely grounds great a La cartes wonderful staff here’s a few I remember Omar and Richardo at the swim up bar made my grandaughter awesome virgin mudslides and many other drinks Ivan at the Italian restaurant was amazing Gladis ,veriniece, and Catalina and the omelette girl who spoke wonderful English I forgot her name were all amazing and of course our wonderful lady Cinthia who did an amazing job in our room everyday thank you to all of u hard working people . That being said I do have a bone to pick with the hotel policy of not giving u access to the food or drinks before 1:30 in the afternoon I find that extremely disappointing when u arrive early to the hotel u have to sit around and wait till 1:30 to get a bracelet so u can get something to eat or drink that’s ridiculous I’ve been to many countries on vacation and have never experienced that before I understand waiting for ur room till 3:00 but come on not the food and drink issue hopefully they change that I seen many people walking around fully clothed in that heat waiting until 130 for a drink I felt bad for them anyways I would recommend going if u arrive at the hotel after 1:30 or else I would never go back there so many other wonderful resorts to discover hope this helps anyone wanting to go here nice to be fore warned great if u are going with small kids otherwise do adults only resorts lots of kids here

We took family (8of us) for a week over New Years. Was slim picking by the time we booked. Was all good but another time maybe go to one with less small children. The staff were super nice,loved the treats @ coffee bar. Buffet was ok. Drinks were top notch

We found the resort very clean. The rooms were restocked daily. The staff were amazing! The a la carte dining was served like a 5 star resort. Gorgeous presentation. The buffet did not have much variety though.

Unfortunately our stay was not good. On the second day I hurt my back and could not walk, my husband was told he could not bring me any food that we had to order room service ( they did waive the fee); when I called I was told she had to call the kitchen and she would call me back. After 3 1/2 hours I had not heard back. I called and asked about a wheel chair and was informed it was $125/day. When I explained I only needed it to go get food they allowed us to get one. The room was not properly cleaned; the sheets were changed once (the day before we left, we were there for 14 days) The food was sub standard; the hotel cleanliness was sub standard; in the morning after the pool was supposedly cleaned we pulled out a large cock roach, the scum around the edge of the pool was very gross, it really needed to be scrubbed. The service was horrible, but I must say the 2 hostesses and only 1 waiter were amazing. I would not recommend this hotel at all.

This resort was very good the staff was awesome they bent over backwards to help you out any time you needed assistance ! The grounds were beautiful and well kept ! but extra praise for all the staff who always went that extra mile with the service. I definitely will come back next year for my vacation again !

This hotel needs a major update. The location is great. Close to some amazing restaurants. The pool and chairs need to be cleaner and updated. Please update your entertainment programs.The sound system is incredibly loud and play the same music over and over😩

This resort was very lovely! The staff was amazing and very friendly! The beach was well maintained, and I loved that there was a safe swimming area available. The pool was great and we absolutely loved the swim up bar. We had one night with some very noisy neighbours and the staff was very understanding and supportive of our issues as we had a baby with us. The food was also great, but with a young one with us, we would have liked it if the buffet opened a bit earlier for lunch! Most of all... we absolutely loved the staff! Always happy and helpful!!!

The hotel is very close to the airport; transfers were included. Courteous, accommodating and professional staff - from the airport transfer to housekeeping. As always some items are overlooked but quickly rectified, such as coffee refills, missing towels or stocking the mini fridge with water. Entertainment staff are extremely energetic and engaging. Lots of activities at this resort and the location is convenient. No bracelets issued so always being asked for my room number. Only one pool and it's a bit cold but it wasn't crowded. If you want a lounge chair with shade get there early! The beach is okay but this resort is on "hotel alley" which means many interruptions from vendors. The hotel itself is dated - the bathroom lighting was very poor but the beds were comfortable. Toilet worked very well. WiFi is not included outside the lobby area and is expensive to purchase. The food was good and as expected; you can eat anywhere as long as it's open (no reservations or limitations) however all restaurants are not open every day and when one is closed for dinner, you better line up early at the others. Lots of good restaurants in the area outside the resort within easy walking distance if preferred. I appreciated the daily activity sheet which outlined the restaurants that were open with times, entertainment schedule, temperature, etc. including a daily drink special! For our purposes (we were 3 adults in a room) double beds were a challenge (queen size would have been nice) but we weren't willing to upgrade for the cost. Other detractors include the dark bathroom (makes it hard to get ready; had to use a flashlight), broken toilet seat (which was replaced proactively on day 5) and musty smell (ocean view room). I was a bit disappointed at the price point compared to other resorts we've stayed at however we've always been a 45 minute bus ride from the airport so assuming location is the reason for the higher cost? It was nice to try one right in PV where a quick cab ride let us experience the Malecon. We felt very safe here, inside and outside the resort. Everyone was friendly and welcoming - an overall good experience. Would I recommend to a friend? That depends. It's a smaller resort with still lots to offer and great service but it is dated and about 20% more than previous vacations. I have no other experience within city limits to compare it to so not comfortable referring at this time.

was not a 4 star For what we paid it was not that great. Beds were OK Wait for just so-so food was too long. Wait was hours if you ordered off a menu but the food was much better. Drinks were good. Beach was only Ok because of the nearby river.

Have to say we were not overly impressed with the resort. The food was average unless you ordered off a menu in which case you needed to put aside hours. If you had the patience the food was very good. The staff - some were OK some did not care. The pool was nice but the beach was only OK because of the river. Would stay further north next time. Rooms were fine, bed was comfortable. Also disappointed going as a group and all of us were spread all over the place. Ian and I had asked how much it would be for an upgrade and they said there were none available and yet we talked to many people who said they had gotten an upgrade at no extra cost. My cousin was moving out of an upgraded room (and had not moved out yet) so they could be closer to their kids so we asked to be moved to their room (we were moving regardless) and they said no was impossible as they had already assigned the room to someone else. Not impressed with the front desk staff at all!

Hotel is very old, and is showing its age. That being said the staff and location are amazing. Food was just okay, lack of air conditioning in the food areas, even indoor venues made dining a bit uncomfortable. Rooms were also showing their age and again air conditioning was not great.

We stayed for seven days and found the resort to be all very good, but it could use more "a la cartes" restaurants. We found the Italian restaurant to be the best. The employees were very polite and helpful.

The all time best holiday ever. Everyone was so sweet. The entertainment guys especially Edwardo were fabulous. Can’t say enough about this hotel. One fall back, dinner meals were not to good. But, I didn’t go hungry. Lol. 😁

had an amazing time at this resort again this is my 2nd time back. Staff are awesome and friendly and great place for kids to enjoy there time as well. Alex our waiter on the beach was awesome got us anything we needed food other then the buffet at night was also really good. Love the location of this resort as well love the food trucks across the street and the mall to go walk around.

The hotel is nicely located, renovations have made an improvement to bringing this hotel up to Sunscape standards but not there yet. Our experience was troublesome right from the Sun Club checkin. They did not have our room selection available!? They did give us a nice room, however we had to move the next morning, before 11:00am!? It is now 8:20pm and we are just heading to our room! Check in was about 90min!? Next morning...We asked if we were to pack up and they would move our luggage to the new room, when available? We were told no they could not!? We were not offered any solution for storing our luggage, until our room would be available at 3:00!? This is the second day of our holiday and we are basically held captive at the resort as we are detained there because we have no place to put our luggage! We spent another hour of our “holiday time”,discussing this unreasonable request before they agreed to move our luggage to our new room, once they had it ready! Which was what we requested. By this point we are stressed out 🥺 WiFi is only available in the lounge area and not always a strong enough signal, at that. The SunClub food was deserts and sandwiches. Not once in 9 days was there anything else. No vegetables or other food!? Premium alcohol was almost non existent! They didn’t even supply kahlua, it was something else, in a none labeled bottle!? I saw a bottle with maybe 3 oz in it, of Grand Mariner the night we checked in and it was never available or seen again, for the remaining 8 days of our stay, for example. I should have seized the moment! They rest of the trip went about the same. Even in the Sun Club area, we had to ask for loungers, after an entire scanning of the resort, daily there were not enough. The plastic glasses at the bars were washed without a dishwasher. There was never any cutlery at the Grill, to eat with!? Which is probably okay if you want to eat guacamole and salsa, for example, with fingers only😳 Every day there was something not quite up to advertised resort amenities!? The entertainment is lacking also. The quality is fine, there is not much of a selection though. The gym is very small but there is some outdoor space available. Towels, mini bar(I only drank the water) not replaced when room was cleaned, daily. We did tip for every service, every day! JS I could continue with the administrative defects but I’m sure you get the just of my review and how our holiday was. Keeping in mind that Mexico is a different country and service is different there than perhaps Canada and the USA, however the simple basic services and amenities are not where they should be, in my opinion. We have travelled to both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of Mexico, 19 times now, always staying in 4star hotel chains, all inclusive resorts, as well as previously at another Sunscape, and it is my opinion that the management/administration needs work to bring this resort up to its advertised claims. With that said we were very happy with the food, the staff was all ways Mexico 5star; happy, polite and very accommodating. The rooms and common areas were always very clean. The beds were comfortable and we did get to try out 2 different ones 😆

We had a great family vacation (there were 10 of us all in junior suites). The area was amazing with the contrast of the ocean and the mountains. The thunderstorms at night was fun. Positives-the staff were great. -The view from our junior suite was amazing. -The food in the Italian restaurant and the Mexican restaurant was wonderful. -the activities were fun and kept our 5 children (ages 11 to almost 17) busy and entertained. -the location was good. You could walk to town/stores and it was close to the airport. -if the room would have storage, we would have loved it. There was lots of room and a separation from the sleep area and sitting area was great Negatives-there was nowhere to unpack (no dressers or shelves) although we were in a higher priced room -some of food in the buffet was marginal. The selection was limited. -the fridge was not restocked If you are on a budget this is a great option.

The Sunscape Resort was very presentable and the staff were very helpful, there a few issues that I had to bring to their attention. First when you book for oceanview, l don’t expect to be looking at a condo and oceanview you had to hang over the balcony to see the oceanview. That was corrected and they changed the room 927(9th Floor). There are other issues that came up during our stay, such as not enough towels in the bathroom (had to call as they wouldn’t leave enough for 2 people) The 2 elevators for the smaller tower which had 9 floors, only 1 was working for most of our stay. Sometimes we would take the stairs due to too many people in the elevator. The last day they had both elevators working. Then on the second last day before coming home, I noticed that the room had a unusual odour. I asked Rick if he could smell it and he asked me if the toilets weren’t backed up. (The smell was like sewage and I called Front Desk and had maintenance have a look at the situation.) Maintenance guy said it was the A/C,and to correct the problem he opened up the air conditioning vent and put 2 coffee packages opened to cover up the smell. So the room smelled like coffee sewage(gross smell) What they should have done is transferred us to a better room and they then could corrected the problem and not try to mask the problem.

The resort is small.. Had only one elevator working for four days.. Food was not good.. Buffet service was terrible kept forgetting to bring drink orders.. Couldn't wear a tank top to the Buffett for dinner there reason was because men are un-hygienic. Went to seaside restaurant they forgot our meals, sat for hour and 45 min finally just got up and left. Tried tiki taco resturant had large chicken bones in my burrito. The Entertainment staff, bar staff and cleaners were all the best and make the resort. Sunclub was good too. Wifi not so good, rooms were great. After staying at other resorts close by I won't save a few dollar to stay at this resort again there are better places

We really enjoyed this hotel. We got such a great price on it that expectations weren’t high so we were so happy when it was such a great resort! Food was excellent, drinks were excellent, the pool is nice and big, sun all day every day! All around had an awesome week, would definitely return!!

Very poor room service no towels or face cloths fridge stocked once only toilet seat cracked and didn't fit .Never enough pool chairs poolside and bar poor.Not wheelchair friendly.Very poor entertainment.Toaster never worked properly and frozen butter.Never enough cutlery.I wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone.

We like the hotel because of its location. The beach is nice and there is lots of activity on the beach. The biggest problem on the beach was the hotel did not supply enough lounges or chairs for the number of guests. People were up at 7:00 a.m. placing a towel on their lounge and kept the same chair the whole day. The hotel has been upgraded and the upgrades are very nice. We are familiar with the hotel as we were there several times when owned by the Holiday Inn. We were disappointed with the room we received on arrival. It was a handicap room on the bottom floor. The shower was huge and there was no door on it, nor did we receive a bath mat and had to use one of our two towels to keep water off the bathroom floor. It was very noisy during the night as people were partying very late and people were talking loudly. After the second night, we were able to move to another room in the tower, which was very acceptable. The dining area has been improved and made larger. We missed having the colorful tablecloths that were used by the Holiday. They used a placemat on each table, which was very seldom cleaned. Also, they did not supply salt and pepper at each table. We had to ask for them at each meal. They did not provide straws for the drinks, making it very difficult to drink an icy drink..

The hotel was ok. The rooms were a good size. Beds were old and uncomfortable. We asked for a cot because we had two children and they brought in a 3rd bed. Had no room to move. Food was absolutely awful, they only made 3 waffles at a time. No bacon. Undercooked sausages.

Upon arrival we were checked in pretty quick. When we got to our room, I was so disappointed. The rooms look much nicer online. We had booked the Romantic Bayview Suite Sun Club. The room was basically a king bed, TV on the wall & a stand with a coffee maker on it. The only thing nice about the room was the view from our balcony. The balcony was huge but only had a small wicker table & 2 chairs. Went down for supper at the buffet & it was ok. The best place we ate was at the Barefoot Grill by the pool. The room service menu sucks! There are only a handful of things on it & nothing appetizing. We ate at the Italian restaurant one night & it took an hour for my husband to get his appetizer which was soup. It was a 2 hour dining experience. Food was good though.This is a good resort for families looking for a reasonable get away. It is not worth it to upgrade your room or get the Sun Club. Would we go back, I doubt it. The old saying you get what you pay for rings true with this resort. In saying this, the staff are extremely friendly. Cannot complain about that at all.

The hotel is older but well taken care of. The service is outstanding. It's so nice not to have to book for the a la carte dining rooms. Nice shopping mall in the building. The weather was just what we ordered!

This is our 2nd time to this resort and as expected we had an amazing time. The staff goes over and above, from the concierge (Miguel) to the restaurant manager (Leon) to the front desk staff (Elizabeth and Isaac). There wasn't a staff member there that wasn't immediately available to assist in any way possible. The food was amazing. My favourite restaurant is the Italian restaurant, but the Seaside Grill and the Mexican restaurant were also excellent. The cappuccino at the coffee shop was great first thing in the morning as well as after dinner. We spent 99% of our time at the beach and never had any issues getting chairs. We loved it!

Had a great stay on this resort. The biggest problem was the eating areas are not air conditioned . The people very nice and had a good time . Bratenders at the lobby bar are amazing watching them work in the heat and deleivering top notch service to all the travlers was great. Close to the buses stops heading into dt so its great. Over all i would go back because we got a great deal on this place.

This hotel was clean and the grounds were beautiful and well kept. Staff was very friendly and did a great job. Good was better then other resorts if stayed at but there still were days where it was just eatable and I'm far from being a picky eater. Rooms were clean everything worked. This is I consider a 3.5 star resort which I prefer because it's smaller which allows you to get to know other guests and staff , and more comfortable vacation then I giant 5 star with 1000 rooms where everything is to perfect looking. Those types of places are nice too but more people, more stuck up attitudes, picky, and not as relaxing. Overall we all had a great time and would return

Grounds very well kept, needs upgrading, great location the food was very good except need more variety as the dinners were close to the same at nite time.The staff were very friendly and helpful. We asked for a king size bed but ended up with 2 double beds--a little small for 2 people.

We spent 8 days here & though nothing was terrible, nor was hardly anything good. Ok, the Mexican restaurant meal I had the one night I was able to make a reservation was amazing. But I woke up early (for me, it IS vacation!) to get down to the reservation desk for a restaurant that evening several times to find out that it was fully reserved. That desk is open 9-11, and I averaged a respectable 10-10:30am. We made it a total of once to the italian & once to the mexican. The night I finally scored the last Mexican seating, when I got there there were only 4 tables filled including me! The rest of the restaurant was reserved for potential imaginary guests I guess. The beer was ok, the Tequila was the same old $5/gallon nail polish remover & a beefeater gin (a well drink anywhere I frequent) was 70 pesos! The gin they fed us had never seen a juniper plant, and the beer was as most 1/2 strength Corona light. We never could get a towel, even at 11am, a sure sign of poor priorities for a hotel, especially one with the Holiday Inn brand. Towels cost, what $1CDN wholesale? And to get a proper lounge chair we had to steal other people's, though it was easy enough when we found out that no one ever came back to their chairs all day anyways. I highly recommend that if you see a dollar pair of sandals, towels & maybe an ancient paperback novel on the chairs under the thatched shade spots; wait 10 minutes, if they are not there, just claim it for yourselves. It's the only way this place works. Take up the vulture mentality & scavenge. Hotel room was quite nice, construction was loud & hammering in pilings all day, and room service had to be called for, only getting it 3 times in 8 days. And we tipped generously the first day. So don't bother thinking that will help. Our friends at Las Palmas had a much more relaxed time, though their food choices were even more limited than ours. At least seats were everywhere, beer was good & better location. Sorry Holiday Inn, but you've turned me off All Inclusive for life. But I thank you. Vacation life will be so much better from here on in.

Very clean with freindly staff. Food was very good. Very good around the pool, no loud music blazing all day which for me, is what I'm looking for. They had a few games around the pool side but were not in your face to participate. The pool water was heated which I haven't much of in Mexico. I would go back in a heartbeat, that's for sure.

This was our 8th year at this resort. Obviously, we are very comfortable there. It is a convenient location with buses passing by frequently to take you into town for a minimal fee. There are also taxis available at the hotel door. The staff in the dining room is exceptional, efficient and friendly. The beach is very clean and not crowded. The entire hotel and grounds are maintained in an excellent manner.

Twice the faucet stayed in my hand with the hot water keeping on running. No hot water for a shower three times during our stay. Had few times problems with the key/card to our room. The food was not very varied each day. For example breakfast had a choice of jam : strawberry, strawberry and strawberry. : this every morning during our 10 day stay. It was not exciting to eat the same food. Different sauces were there to impress us. Our ration of water in the room (2 bottles of 600ml). If you needed more you had to pay. The beach was set with a red flag permanently. A blue one was also erected to warn you against dangerous fauna!

For the price it was great. The service is outstanding. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The food at the buffet was good. If you are fussy, you may not care for it that much, We ate at the a la carte restaurants a couple time and they were good.. The weekend was very busy with families but during the week was quiet. The room was ok. It is not a 5 star room We had a Jr suite, and the hide a bed was not very comfy. The bathroom could use redoing. Location is good as close to the marina and the melecon. Overall for the price we paid, it was great and would recommend it.

We stayed her for a week at the end of October on a girls trip. This is a smaller resort, and could you some more updating. Upon check in our room was dirty, we cleaned it ourselves before unpacking. The rooms are very basic, no fridge or microwave, but has a safe, and free wifi which was a pleasant surprise. They have one buffet, a snack bar and an al a carte. The buffet didn't have alot of variety, for breakfast the egg station was a favorite with us. The al la cartes however were amazing, food was delicous, presentation was amazing, and the staff gave the best service. The staff are what make this resort worth coming back too, they all new are names by the 2nd day, and would go out of there way to gives us great service. The bartenders make some pretty tasty drinks too! Another bonus to this resort is its location, its very central, a short walk to a mall, walmart, the maritime marina, and a quick taxi ride to the boardwalk.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn Puerto Vallarta.This is a great place for a family vacation.The staff were great. The food was good and Sue, the lady who is in charge of the kids club was great. I have only positive thing to say about the Holiday Inn in Puerto Vallarta.

My boyfriend, son and I went. What a fabulous time we had! Great location, clean, food was very good, felt very safe, wonderful staff. My son was 9 and it was his first trip and he loved it! We would stay there again!

The Hotel Management was Horrible, they catered to all the seniors that were there for the month or longer and didn't give the same treatment to the all inclusive guests.It is really said as we have been going there for the last 6 years. Guestavo and Enrigue are still the best, since the new management most of the great staff are gone.
