Surprisingly good resort, clean in room and all around, good drinks available every bar not only Vip , very busy on weekends when the locals arrive leaving public washrooms disgusting.Not their fault but the policy in Dominican Republic giving discounted rates for local residents

The Marien Resort exceeded our expectations. This resort is very clean and they take pride in the high level of cleanliness, we were very impressed with that. The food also exceeded our expectations, great selection and variety of food. The only thing that could be better is the uncomfortable bed.. it is a typical resort bed that is very hard and did not sleep well as a result. Would still highly recommend this resort and we would certainly return .

We had a one bedroom suite. This room is exceptional with two bathrooms, two TVs and two rooms..Oh and two balconies. The food at the buffet was good. We didn't even go to the specialty restaurants. Yes the VIP is worth the extra. Seven days of sunshine. No chair hogs at the VIP beach section.

We just spent 28 Days at this resort and we loved everything about it. We have been here several times before and it is still one of our favourites. Staff are friendly and our room was wonderful. The grounds were always well maintained. Special thanks to Louise from Trip Central for going above and beyond.

The pools were beautiful. Rooms clean but a bit dated. Food was good and entertainment team were great. Overall great 9 days stay and would return. Great place for adults and there were kids as well. Beach is ok. Chairs around pool in the shade are very limited.

The hotel was lovely and clean. Pool was a little cool for me, but beautiful. The beach was really nice with all its little trees that provided shade and a lovely breeze. The food areas were clean spacious. The food was ok, not my cup of tea, but always something there to enjoy. The buffet staff didn't look too happy to be there and didn't rush to look after us. The grounds, entertainment and lobby staff were quite friendly. Overall it was pretty good.

Best nightly shows I’ve seen in a long time. Thank you to Ricky and the dancers. Ricky your special attention to my three year old niece made our stay extra special, Our room was very nice. The cleaning staff stocked our fridge and cleaned our room daily including fresh towels. The pool was spacious and there was lots of chairs for everyone. Beautiful beach but should have been kept cleaner. Lots of loungers. Loved the ocean. À la carte restaurants were good and the buffet was adequate. Staff and service were excellent.

the hotel and staff were great. In the room the toilet did not flush all the time and actually overflowed several times.. we had hot water only one day and rest of the time it was warm water. The air conditioner water dripped right on our floor in the hall near the bathroom and the door to our room. The public washrooms were disgusting…birds were helping them selves to the food at the snack bar actually going right into the containers. Last full day there they told us to be out of the room so that they would fumagate it.

The resort is small which makes it easy to get around . The entertainment staff are very nice and the shows were pretty good. Our favourite restaurant was the Mediterranean. The buffet is small but there is always something to eat . I would go here again

Hi Sandra Few issues with our trip to the Marien. First off we recommended main floor. We were given 2nd floor. They finally arranged for ground floor a few days into our trip. Secondly there was a rain storm that ended with us getting back to our room to find an inch and a half of water all over the floor, in all areas of our room. We contacted front desk and they said they would send someone but no one showed. My husband had to clean up all the water with towels. Water would not go down drains. Toilets stopped working no water. Our travel companions who both have mobility issues had water on there floor as well did not get any assistance till the next day when the maid arrived. This was our 2nd trip to this resort and we’re disappointed. We registered a complaint with guest services. Moral at the resort was not good with staff. We had to wait and request numerous times to get water and coffee many of the days we were at this resort. We feel that we paid a lot of money and did not receive the services that we paid for and are asking Transit to compensate us for the difficulties we experience. Please look into this for me and get back to me as soon as possible.

Great room, right on ocean, amazing view. Room was a bit outdated but clean. Housekeeper was amazing. Food really good, lots of choices. Pool and beachfront really nice. Overall a really nice resort and would highly recommend

We really enjoyed all the food here. The staff were super friendly. The rooms were nice but the bed was hard. Sore back on wake up every day. Otherwise really enjoyed our stay. Would recommend to friends and family.

Food services needs to be audited.......our group was 6 adults....5 of us were sick. Wifi is not as advertised "entire complex" there was no access in rooms and dodgy elsewhere. Beach are not well kept.

Everything was great except over 30 different visitors got sick from various restaurants on the resort. It's the 1st time in over 20 trips that I got sick from food, to lose 3 of 7 days sick on vacation is disappointing. If they could fix the food issues I would be a regular visitor. Staff, rooms and rest of amenities were great. I did report the issue to staff and they thanked me and said they would audit the food handling and services.

This was our second year at the marien puerta plata. The resort is clean. Room maid was extra good. At one point I had a little tummy stuff and she brought me extra pop and tp without any request. In general the food is good. Like any caribe resort cheese is blah. Decaf coffee is instant. Other stuff makes up for it. The servers at buffet and restaurants are great. One reason we returned is that the staff are cheerful. But. The metal trays on the buffet are not heated properly so those choices are cold, which is disappointing. Someone suggested just give your plate to chef at the grill and hv them heat it - I am not that patient. The buffet has theme nites. Sat nite a whole roast pig. Sunday nite is gala, roast beef very good. Other things, like what they called steak, forget it, but lots of options. You would have to be pretty demanding to not fill your plate. Some things varied, for ex the person making fresh juice - one of them made much better blends than the other. We found the bathroom at the pool bar deteriorated when it was busy, usually weekends. Which is better than a swim up bar, hands down. We liked lunch at the beach snack bar better than the buffet and ate there most days. Overall a decent resort. I would recommend strongly if they fixed the food trays.

My first day was a bit chaotic since the phone in my room wasn’t working, and it took them two days to fix it. Also, the room’s locker isn’t digital—it uses a key and costs 3 USD per day to use. Aside from that, the food was great, the beachfront was very clean, and the pool area was fun and entertaining.

The food is horrible, there was a cockroach in our room and we were sick most of the time from the food. will never go back again. The only good part of the trip was the weather and the resort was beachfront. Anna was our housekeeper who I adored and did a great job. I talked to an agent at trip central who said this resort was nice. This resort is not even a 3 star im very disappointed in the feedback from the trip central agent as well as this hotel.

First the primary reason for our 3 star review. We did not like the food. At all. But maybe by DR standards it is fine. So, if you're good with the food at DR resorts, you should probably ignore this complaint. That being said, we've stayed in one other DR resort and the food was quite a bit better there. But we have stayed in numerous other resorts (none in Cuba which has its own poor reputation) and in every other case the food was significantly better. So we won't be back to the DR I think. Second, it sucks that my first experience upon reaching this resort was to (apparently) being scammed by the check in staff. I booked a room with two double beds. When we checked in we were told that there was no rooms with two double beds available but only a single King. OK, whatever, the world won't end if we only have a King so I agreed. And THEN I was immediately told that, in fact, there was a room with two double beds available. And here is the thing, even with the extra crowd on the weekends (locals I assume - they were great to be around), at worst the resort was maybe 30% full. To the point where there were only one or two a la carte restaurants open at any one time) and the buildings seemed empty. Or at least ours. We were in building two on the top floor and did not see anyone else on our floor the entire time we were there and only occasionally did we see anyone else on the first floor or on the stairways. So, my assumption (and I invite the hotel to tell me I am unjust in this assumption) was that I was going to be pressured into some upsell to a more expensive room had I objected to having only a king bed instead of two queens. Also, the place advertises are having wifi throughout the resort. It is pretty bad everywhere but in our room (Building two) it wasn't just bad but simply non-existent for well more than 50% of the time. Like could not connect at all. And even when we could it was terrible. And, on the theme of continuing my complaints (honestly positives to come), the local alcohol was simply undrinkable. Even in mixed drinks. To the point where I saw many other guests carrying around their own bottles of booze instead of drinking what was available. But there IS a solution to the terrible alcohol problem. We upgraded to the VIP level which gave us access to a better quality of alcohol. For us it was US$25/day (not each, for both of us). That also gave us access to the VIP lounge which was kind of like a business center lunch room at the front of the property so was not very useful. But it also gave us access to the VIP section of the beach. It wasn't big but there were beds there (sheets changed daily). The most amazing thing about the VIP section and the best thing we've ever had at any resort was they had muskoka chairs to sit in. This was a godsend for us as the ubiquitous lounges every resort has are brutally uncomfortable unless you are lying down and we like to sit up to read. The muskoka chairs were, by far the best part of the resort. Now some positives. The bartenders were almost universally clearly enjoying themselves and provided great service. Particular shout outs to Joan/John at the snack bar and Evaristo. Both provided exceptional service. Many of the other staff seemed to not really enjoy their jobs or actively did not like them. Now it seems incredibly entitled on my part to want staff to pretend to be happy and it is. But surely the resort could hire people that actually liked their jobs? The beach was great. There is quite a lot of shade provided by trees. The best shade, I think, would be to the far left of the resort as you are facing the water. Lots of trees and not many people in that area. The water was warm. It could be rough. There was some seaweed but not that much. The water gets deep pretty quickly but there is a sandbar of sorts way to the left of the resort where the water is shallow for a while. The pool is great. The house white wine is awful. I could drink the house red but it was just barely palatable enough. We took a taxi tour into PP one day. Three or four hours for a private tour for US$40 (plus tip) and was well worth it. A couple of other things. The casino is right in front of the resort. It is not part of the resort. If you play poker, they apparently have a game every night but it is Omaha and not Texas Hold em. There is a cigar store right in front of the resort as well. Very expensive cigars. Even with the import taxes and sin taxes in Canada, I could get the same cigars cheaper back in Canada. I've read other reviews complaining about the cats on the resort. No need for that. They wander around but have absolutely no interest in the guests so do not demand to be fed or pet or anything. Indeed, if you tried to pet one (and I did a few times) they ran away. The room safes are weird. They use a key which you get at check in. Costs $3/day for the safe. Not much money but that isn't my real complaint. The biggest pain is that I had to keep track of that key instead of just the combination I've used at every other resort I've been to for twenty years. And I am sure, had I lost that key, they'd have charged me a fortune. And one final complaint (because why not) and if you've read this far, you must be a glutton for online reviews with lots of complaints... There are a number of stores on site just after the reception area. A few of them have the vendors calling out to you (ok, lets just call it harassing) as you walk by. Really annoying. I don't blame them. They are clearly not busy and need the business but this is not something I've experienced at any other resort. Sure it happens all the time in a local town etc. but never in a resort for us. It was tiring. Holy crap! You STILL reading this? Hope it was helpful. And, if not, hope you are so bored or content with your life that you did not mind reading it all. Happy travels.

Second time to this hotel. April 2025 - Beach in puerto plata was wavy (yellow flag) or closed due to a storm. No green flag In 2 weeks due to storm passing by? Amazing pool. First time To this resort. Nov 2023 no bacon in two Weeks. April 2025 Bacon every second day. Amazing rolls and breads. Air conditioner worked great! Excellent price for a vacation!!

The hotel staff was friendly and overall, we had a great experience at this resort. We found great joy in chatting with Juan at the pool bar. No issues with food, and no reservations required for restaurants. Beach was closed the first few days due to tides but the pool was a great spot to hang out. We ended up spending a lot of time at the pool even when the beach reopened. Our only complaint are the rooms could use updating.

Everything was great except the room smelled musty on entry and the discovery of mold was very evident on our back packs after having them stored in the closet for two weeks. Staff was very welcoming and efficient

Overall, the resort is nice Everything is easy accessible. However, the nightlife is lacking. The shows are not very good. The entertainment in the pools is almost nonexistent. However, the water aerobics is a lot of fun. The music is in one area so unless you take a speaker there’s nothing. This is not a resort for people with children or young adults. Just nothing for them. Was raining a fair bit the week we were there. The roofs were leaking in our rooms not nearly enough umbrellas!! . stayed in the adult only building 6 beds are rock hard quite nice and presentation tho. With house coats and slippers.rooms hadGreat air conditioning. Wifi is spotty unless you’re in the VIP lounge. VIP lobby was amazing!! Drinks were good in the VIP we definitely loved the coffee machine. buffet was good Especially the pasta /omeletteguy . Bacon is only served every second day. Did have a problem in snack bar with somebody cooking raw chicken beside other food and touching it with raw chicken fingers. So if you’re eating here be cautious just watch as their heating your food they do it right in front of you. We did all of the à la carts they were all good just took way too long. Two hours plus each sitting so if you wanna get into these make sure you’re there at a 6:10 or you’re not getting in. For 6:30 opening In the sports lounge, it’s very hard to get tokens for pool tables. The machine is very finicky . The beach is nice in front of the hotel, however, as soon as you walk 10 feet away. It’s all trash and lots of glass. Not very well maintained it had a fair bit of seaweed. Didn’t see anybody out maintaining it the whole week. But for the value, it was good. I would suggest anybody going spend the money and go adults only. Or VIP.

Hotel areas are clean and well kept. Great service from staff. VIP is not worth it. Rooms - are dated, missing amenities, not consistent house keeping services. No drawers to put your clothes. Coffee machines not cleaned, old and rusty. Only mirror was in the bathroom. Hard to get extra pillows and blankets, although part of VIP service, had to ask constantly before we received them. Mini bar was not filled daily. Only pop and beer. VIP lounge - great bar staff and service. Nice area to relax and grab coffee every morning. A al carte - reservations not needed , no special consideration for VIP. Everyone has to wait for a table, very long line ups. 3 a la cartes in total, however only 2 were open each day. Mediterranean restaurant was the best. The Mexican restaurant needs improvement. Buffet - very good, great selection each day. VIP beach area - not the best. Needs a lot of work and upgrades. Great bar service there for VIP. Pools - very nice but no swim up bar. Very limited shaded areas. Not enough umbrellas. You had wake up by 430am to reserve a shaded area. Grounds - very well kept Shows - entertaining, great staff and enjoyed the variety of shows. Overall, the hotel rooms need a major upgrade and Staff is amazing

We booked through Trip central ca Liz did very good job for our trip. The resort is nice close to airport. Peaceful quiet they need more chairs under shade for really upgrade. No noise at all quite place night shows are amazing specially the magic show was super duper Roy magician is top notch guy for magic.Only minor issue is the wifi only in lobby Beach it's limited in the rooms. Overall its very good resort. I just came back this week after one week

Very clean. The employees are very friendly. They all go out of their way to make you're stay the best it can be. The house keepers do a great job with the rooms. Been there 5 times. It's our go to place in Dominican. Food is very good. Like any place you go, you get some very rude guesses. Nothing to do with the resort.

We were there from March 12 to March 23. Staff is amazing and make you feel very welcomed! This hotel is currently under renovations (for more than 2 years from what we were told) therefore we did not get the room we thought we would get. The buildings shown on the map that are to be specific to VIP are closed therefore we cannot rely on the resort map. They have a huge pool and there were no difficulties accommodating everyone at the pool. They are in the process of adding quite a few tiki umbrellas to provide more shaded areas around the pool. Wish they would enforce their rule about reserving spots at the pool as on many occasions we would see these chairs with towels from 6am till after lunch with not a soul tending to them. Food was good but we feel there was not enough variety at the buffet. All 3 a la carte restaurants are on a first come first serve basis for all. We enjoyed all 3 more than once. Room was clean and re-stocked daily with no complaints but I must say that we were disappointed that the beer given in our rooms and at VIP lounge is Coors Light. Their local beer was only available on tap at the bars. We are the type where after a long day in the sun, we enjoy relaxing on the balcony/terrace but unfortunately the most uncomfortable chairs of the resort are situated there which prevented us from being able to unwind comfortably outdoors before calling it a night. We truly have no complaints. It's more about a few disappointments which we all end up having at whatever resort we go to. Demographically, we love where this resort is situated as you can walk many places...Jumbo , MacDonalds or Burger King if you wish to have a taste of home, their liquor store which has a full serve bar and the beach was long enough for a good walk as well. We are not at the point in our lives where we want to go back to the same resorts we have already been but I will say we will be back in Puerto Plata. We have no regrets staying at the Marien. Due to the renovations occuring, I would not recommend at this time.

Resort is clean workers are friendly food was ok Mediterranean (seafood) wasn’t what it was hipped to be but ok. Rooms were clean shower was a challenge constantly changing temp sometimes no cold sometimes no hot. Beach is really rocky getting in and was rough, there was small pieces of garbage all over beach and further down beach to north beach was like a dump really bad. Would we go back… not a chance

What a great hotel!!! The front lobby gentleman (Jose) was so accommodating. He was there to help us with whatever we needed. The food was amazing and the bar staff superb!!! Clean accommodations and comfortable beds. Very relaxing atmosphere. Staff were simply amazing.....can't wait to go back

Great small and very walkable resort. The staff are very friendly and very attentive.the beds are extremely uncomfortable, so much so that I preferred to sleep on the couch in the room. The food was meh. My husband and I both were ill with what we can only assume was food-borne illness and lost 2 days of our vacation. The pool was lovely but there was not enough shade nor loungers. The beach was nice but the water was quite turbid and there was little we could do to cool down. With a few upgrades, this could have been our new favorite place, but sadly, my comfort is too important.

BEAUTIFUL RESORT, , SAFE, CLEAN, VERY FRENDLY AND POLITE, , FOOD WAS DELICIOUS , SERVICE WAS GREAT, THE SHOWS WERE GREAT, THE BEACH WAS CLEAN AND MANY LONDGE CHAIRS.BEAUTIFUL POOL, I HAD A FACIAL AND LYMPH DRAINAGE MASSAGE AND IT WAS GREAT AND VERY PROFFESSIONAL. MY HUSBAND USED THE POOL AND HE LOVED IT. WE TOOK A TAXI TO THE CITY AND THE TAXI DRIVER TOOK US ON A TOUR AND FLEA MARKET WHICH WE STAYED IN TOWN FOR DINNER AND HE STAYED WITH US ALL DAY. OUR ROOM WAS CLEANED EVERYDAY WITH CLEAN TOWELS AND TOILETRIES AND WE HAD A BLOW DRYER. THE ONLY IDEA I WOULD LIKE , MY LEGS ARE NOT STURDY AND I WOULD OF LIKED TWO RAILINGS TO USE THE POOL OTHERWISE NO COMPLAINTS!

Very lovely resort, great people for staff, great food and rooms are very comfortable. The one. problem I had was all the cats roaming around the buffet for every meal. I was very uncomfortable with that, they are actually right under your feet at the table you are sitting at. That would be the only reason I would look to book another resort which is really too bad.

We recently visited this resort in Jan 25, it’s a dated resort with no real area to hang out evening time. The scenic view is breathtaking but beach is horrible with garbage from ocean. 3 star resort.

The facilities and rooms were Clean. Staff were friendly and responsive to our needs. It was not very crowded. The food at the buffet was good and different options in every meal. It seemed they were preparing the food options wisely.

Great place for families with kids and those looking for a relaxing place. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good service. Food was Ok. Close to the beach. Very good swimming pool. Definitely recommend it.

The resort is very nice well laid out, the staff is great and the food at the specialty restaurants is great. The rooms were clean but no wifi. Do not pay for superior adults only or the VIP because the only thing it’s good for is the VIP lounge. Reservation are not needed at any of the restaurants The adults only has children every weekend and although they say room amenities wifi there is only wifi in common areas and the VIP lounge. On the weekends the locals take over and the management does nothing to help the staff in controlling their activities.

Good hotel if you want to relax by the pool or beach. Not many people so there were no activities during day like we wanted.and like they advertised. Made up time by swimming and doing a couple of excursions. Only had 9:30 event nightly. They were good. Highly recommend VIP. No reservations, has its own air condition building to have a drink, enjoy some snacks, coffee. Also VIP area at buffet and beach were nice. Free room service. All food at buffets and a la cartes are not for picky eaters. If you eat everything then you will love the food. Good thing there were fries and burgers at snack shack beside beach. Room service food was good for picky eaters too. Wifi only worked on our balcony, hallways and beach and buffet. Also got great wifi at VIP building. Beach water was cloudy but still swimmable. Nice no peddlers bugging us. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Fridge didn't get stocked daily, even with VIP. No blankets in room so can get cold with fan and air conditioner on.

The grounds were lovely and well maintained. Public areas were clean. Rooms were nice and spacious. For some reason, we were upgraded to VIP status, so not sure about the regular room sizes. The shower was too high, so squirted all over snd the shower curtain took short. The maid respected our DND sign and never entered unless we asked her to clean. Tips were not expected, but welcomed. Food was acceptable and hot when it should be. Only had bacon once in 2 weeks, but lots of other stuff to eat. The Mediterranean restaurant was the best. Service was great overall. The VIP Lounge was the best! Wifi very shaky throughout the resort, except for the VIP lounge. Great there.

Resort could use some building updates but overall was clean. Staff was friendly but vendors on site were very pushy. Beach was cleaned every morning after wash up. Food was okay but very repetitive. There seemed to be lots of activities scheduled for kids but not as much for adults and entertainment was not overly entertaining.

Beautiful resort however there are limited umbrellas at the pool so not much shade. We sat at the beach and it was beautiful and shady? food was ok always lots to choose from. Ala carte restaurant where very hard to reserve unless you had VIP

We loved the vibe of this resort. The staff were all so kind and worked so hard. The rooms were nice and clean, we did fine the beds on the harder side. The food was great, you can always find something to eat! We really loved the snack bar. The drinks were fantastic. The entertainment was great. The beach is beautiful but the waves are intense, we spent most of our week in the sprawling pool. No complaints! You don’t have to walk far anywhere you go which is great. There are little stores on the resort where locals sell goods. They are quite aggressive and throughout the week we heard different people complain about how intense they could be. No gracias doesn’t always cut it! Go for the excursion to the cable car up the giant mountain. It’s amazing. Over all we loved our vacation at the Marien.

Rooms clean and functional Staff ultra friendly. UBER friendly!! Mediteranian alacart was really good food in general everywhere was good suprisingly for the price we paid for our 10 day all inclusive Beach was in good shape. Drinks were above average aswell Activities could be pushed harder and a bit better. Mini put or more outdoor games would help. Botchy ball, mini put, maybe mini basketball net in pool would add some fun.

Activity staff did a poor job of organizing beach activities like volleyball, bocce & horse shoes. Even though these activities were listed on the resort entertainment program list, the staff did not try to get hotel guests involved. The snack bar was ok, the a la carte restaurants pretty good while the buffet options not that great. Also lacking in fruit like pineapple, mango & watermelon.

This resort is proably a 3.5 star. Food was ok. Rooms clean, property maintained. The beach was our only problem. Lot of garbage and seaweed not good for snorkling. If it wasnt for the beach i would go back. We are beach people. If you like to hang around the pool you are all set. Beautiful pool. Still enjoyed ourselfves and will go back to Dominican

Room: The furniture in the rooms was very dated. The bathtub did not drain properly; by the end of the shower we were standing in 2 inches of water. The shower door did not slide properly, one of the rollers was broken off. There was no hairdryer in the room and the phone did not work. After 3 attempts we finally received a hairdryer but the phone was never operational during our 10 day stay. We had hot water all but one day in a 10 day stay. We received clean towels and large bottles of water every day. Beds were quite comfy. Staff: The housekeeping staff was fantastic, no complaints at all. Most of the staff in resort were friendly and helpful except for the VIP and main reception. I always felt that I was bothering them and that they really did not care. Checkin: seemed a bit chaotic as a large group of people were crowded in small area at VIP desk but we get through it fairly quickly. Beach: clean and plenty of sunbeds but no palapas on beach? However there quite a few trees for shade. Pool: Sunbeds were not as plentiful and shade was scarce. More palapas are needed. Entertainment: We only attended 3 shows which were good. There is no entertainment before 9:30. Wifi: Terrible in our room (block 4 garden view main floor). Beach and VIP lounge were the best locations. Food: We enjoyed the specialty restaurants, especially Mediterranean. The buffet was limited and repetitive. We only had bacon one day! Drinks: Drinks were good and great variety. The best drinks were at VIP beach bar (premium liquour) and the sports bar. Note: there is no lobby bar which I found strange, the sports bar is located beside the lobby but is enclosed. Wifi is non existent in sports bar. Also this resort recently changed ownership, not sure what changes this will bring

At first, we (6 of us) did not get the rooms (3 rooms) we purchased. The rooms were awful, damp and humid with a disgusting oudour, one of them without AC. We all wanted to go home immediaterly. Very stressfull. Eventually, after a lot of complaining, the satff did make it right and gave us good rooms. Thank you Marlen and Jordan. The food at the buffet was ok but little selection and very repeative. The food and service at the restaurents was good. The resort was nice as prosmised, the beach, the pool and the ammenities were very nice. I think the biggest dissapointment for us was the staff. Most (not all) were disgrunteld, not very freindly, and certainly not happy. They seemed to resent us for vacationing there. Also things were very pricey on the resot and we felt we were being gouged.

Quite disappointed with our experience, however, I will say that the staff were so friendly & incredibly kind throughout. The mountain views were stunning, and everything was clean and well kept. The music played at the pool was terrible (Adele, really?). Why not Soca, or Buchata? The pool was clean and appeared well kept. The beach wasn't maintained, and only saw it raked/tidied once during our 5 day stay. Our room smelt like mildew, and was quite musty. Very dated furniture. Our AC didn't quite work and felt like it was on 'fan' setting, but the temp was comfortable enough for us. If you want to keep things in the safe it's an additional $3 a day (that's such a money grab). If you want A La Carte, they try talking you into spending an additional $25/day to become VIP, otherwise you have no chance at getting a reservation. And you're required to come to the front desk at 8a.m. to book this reservation. The food was decent at the buffet, and service staff were attentive and nice. We went to two shows, both dancing entertainment. Very enjoyable. Our vacation was nice, but we wouldn't recommend this resort and will definitely look at a different spot when we return to DR.

Well there are a few things we are not happy with. The showers were terrible. First week were there. We didn’t have hot water it was lukewarm .the shower would shut off all the time wasn’t enough water. Sometimes it would just drip the water out . On the weekends, they would let the locals come and stay for a discount rate. We were never informed of this when we book this resort or I wouldn’t have not booked it.. we had VIP, which is kind of a joke, because with that when the locals come in, you can’t get a seat at the pool, you can’t get a seat in the Buffay kids running all over I was understanding with VIP we would have are own pool and things would be a bit different than the way they were. They would come in at nite being very loud . Fighting in the hallways, and not respecting the other people that were in the hotel.Well we really enjoyed the staff they were awesome. Food was great. I just wish we were informed about the locals coming in at the VIP was set up different.

My family liked the resort due to it was close to the beach and the pool was a good size. The rooms needs some update. We did have a leaky air conditioner which created a wet and slippery floor, however it was reported and got fixed right away. There is really not much entertainment on the resort itself and when there is it is mostly in spanish. The same items for food is repeated so it can become boring if you are there longer than 5 days.

Been to this resort before, second time back myself. The water was out for 10 hours the one day, our air conditioning broke twice during our stay & was broken for hours, once arrived in room noticed no blow dryer - reached out to front desk 3 separate times, waited 2 days into vacation until one was brought to room. unfortunate inconveniences during a vacation.

Too many Dominicans on weekends. Buffet service was often very slow. A few very friendly staff, but several lack charisma. Food was good, but no fruit at lunch or dinner. At full capacity, there is a lack of shaded places at the beach and at the pool

This hotel was very disappointing due to locals taking over for half the time we were there. Pushing, rudeness, name calling… fist fights even took place and police had to be called in. Room was good but food was the same day after day. Beach was dirty and not maintained. All in all, I would never return to Be Live Marien.

For a vacation with small children hotel was great on the weekend where locals came in with their families to enjoy the beach/food. During the week it was empty and finding things to do for the kids was difficult. The kids club people tried their best and we really appreciated it. Activities were overpriced and there was nothing on offer for smaller children, but taking an uber and venturing out was easy and safe. Everyone at the resort was friendly and helpful. The VIP lounge concierges were great and gave us some great advice on where to go visit and where to go eat outside of the resort . Food on the resort was reasonable. Not great, limited choices, but not bad either. FYI: Really aggressive timeshare sales peoples wait for you near the breakfast buffet and follow you around until you agree to a meeting.

This resort was definitely not what we expected. It says 4/5 star resort but its actually more like 2.5/3. Its almost like a retirement resort with the amount of elderly guests. This isnt a place for young couples/ adults who want a more lively atmosphere. The food was not great and its surprising how minimal the selection was. The rooms were lackluster, very dated and could use some touch ups. There was constantly sales people walking around the resort trying to sell you vacation packages, which became pushy and annoying. In the evening there was no where to lounge and have drinks. We’ve never seen such poor entertainment… Some nights we found ourselves going to bed early because of nothing to do. The only good thing about this resort was the beautiful location and views of the mountains in the distance.

The resort was beautiful, well layed out and taken care of by the hard workers there. The hotel rooms were very nice and spacious. A couple of minor complaints would be the toilet running all the time, the toilet paper roll holder right beside and the same height as the toilet seat and the shower head that was brutal. Also the air conditioner that left a puddle of water in the hallway of the other room we had. The staff was always friendly and treated us well. The pool was beautiful but the lack of available umbrellas meant that we spent less time there. There were always a lot of choices of food and drink and the entertainment was spectacular. All in all we had a great stay.

First of all the food was bland, repetitive and overcooked. Fake orange juice and under ripe fruit was the norm. The rooms were extremely outdated with a septic tank system requiring used TP to be garbaged rather than flushed. The hotel refused to honour its rule to not allow reserving pool lounge chairs in the shade, many being left unattended for hours on end. Entertainment was pitiful- recycled MJ tunes and similar. On the plus side- nice beach with minimal seaweed. Would I go back? Not a chance.

Small and nice resort, friendly staff. The pool and beach are missing a lot of palapas. If you are not up by 7:00am good luck on finding any shade. You are not supposed to reserve any chairs but that is not enforced at all. Some guests reserved both pool and beach which is not fair for other guests. We reserved the Adult only section which we had sunbeds available which was great but by 1:00 the wind on the beach was so strong you couldn’t stay there at all. Because of the wind the waves were strong and the sand was moved so much that there could be a step down or up of a foot or more to get in or out of the ocean. You couldn’t see your hand in the water because of the churning of the water. I love the ocean but only went in twice in 7 days. The food was OK but nothing to be mentioned. If you are a beach lover I wouldn’t recommend this resort.

Great experience! A special note to my room cleaning personal for room #4118, "OUTSTANDING" Can't say enough about all the staff. Very accomodating in all fields. If there was one downfall that I had to share, (In my opinion.) Would be the lack of daily entertainment! I will be returning!!

The people at the resort are amazing, the rooms leave a little to be desired. Our air conditioner didn't work most of the time and our shower broke several times. The shower curtain is cloth and when you shower you soak the floor so you need to use your bath towels after drying to clean floor. The pool is always clean and beautiful, it was so windy we couldn't enjoy the beach ( not the fault of the resort ). The food is good with the exception of the A'La Carte Milo's, left there with food poisen.

This was our second time to this resort in 8 years. It's always friendly, lots of access to the pool and small enough to feel like you are not going to get lost and can find your group. What I would like to see would have bee some updates over the 8 years although I realize covid played a huge aspect there. We do not like the aggressiveness of the vendors though. We constantly felt harassed by them and then were confronted by them while on a paid for excursion which ruined the day.

The rooms were very clean and always fresh water. The staff was amazing. Housekeeping and people that served us. Always a smile and willing to help me any way. I would give them a 10 out of 10. Food was awesome and so much verity. You would never go hungry. Thank you so much for a beautiful week. ♥️♥️♥️

While a bit outdated it was clean and well maintained. Food was ok but I'm not a big meat eater and a lot of meat and meat dishes were served. The only complaint I do have is being swarmed so badly by merchant vendors on my way to dinner that it caused me to have a panic attack. They have stores they can work from that if you want to go into you can so why they would allow them to set up tables by the buffet entrance is beyond me. Other than being clean I never really noticed anything about covid measures which was nice I've had enough covid crap in Canada to last a lifetime. I would recommend this to others as like a ,3+ place .

This resort is very clean and the gardeners are constantly tending the grounds. Food was great always had a variety of food to pick from. The pool was nice as well as the beach. Windy at times but still amazing . The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Hoping to return.

Pros: +Pool is great +Easy to get pool chairs Cons: -Food is horrible -Only Mylos has edible options. I went to Playa Dorado to eat -Old and needs repairs -Much of the staff acts highly entitled I would definitely avoid this place unless is is almost free and your goal is to lose weight!

We just got back from a great 10 day stay at this resort from February 26 to March 8, we got awesome weather everyday not one drop of rain our whole time there. The service was great especially Franco "the pasta man" and our maid Felicita (hope I wrote her name correctly) to name a couple, the whole staff was great, excellent service. Food was good but sometimes could have been a bit warmer in the buffet sections but food tasted good just the same. The only thing we were a little disappointed about was when we entered the water at the beach, there was quite a bit of rocks and weeds we had to be careful where we stepped when entering the sea not to hurt our feet on rocks or sea shells and such as my husband is diabetic he had to be extra careful, we don't blame the resort for this as this is not there fault. The ocean was beautiful and fabulous to walk alongside it. We found the evening entertainment could have been a little earlier in evening for us. Thank you to all the staff for a great stay. Also thank you to Kevin Dupuis from trip central for great service and patience with my many questions, look forward to planning another trip for next year.

The hotel needs some updating and repairs. The food was delicious. The beach was nice and seaweed cleaned daily. The pool is huge and never seemed too busy. They definitely need more shade by the pool as the tiny amount of palapas didn’t suffice the need. The staff were so very friendly and accommodating. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at Be Live in Puerto Plata and had a blast at this resort. The food was good, the staff were great, the resort and beach were clean and the views were amazing. Beach and ocean on one side, mountain on the other. We were there for New Years and the fireworks were incredible.

The resort itself was nice the beaches were not very clean there was lots of garbage on the beach, I would rate it 3.0 star, the “ocean view” rooms seemed run down and out dated, the food was not the greatest, the Mexican la cart was the best all week, the staff was super nice, it did get quite busy on the weekends as they let the local residents come and use the facilities and seemed like the vacationers got pushed to the side, I would not recommend this resort

The hotel did look like it’s pictures but there were so many inconsistencies. The hotel we were placed in was an extremely old building with a broken shower handle, broken toilet and an awfully looking mirror. The room did have a smell to it as you enter and it did not look as nice as the pictures you would’ve seen. The ac does leak and when asked for support in this, we were told that we cannot turn the ac of even though it was extremely cold in there. We were given a suggestion that we tried but the ac continued to leak. We were also not accommodated with late check out even though we had gone with other Canadians who got a new room when asked and was given a late check out. They told us that we could not get a late check out as it gets booked in advance but there are about 9 different building with many rooms in it. The customer service was absolutely frustrating to deal with, the food was mediocre , not all of the a la carte restaurant are opened every night so you don’t get to decide which one to eat, the weekends are absolutely chaos with an overflow of people so there is barely any space in the pool or restaurants. The pros are definitely the staff around the resort (everyone other than the front desk) as they always ensure great service. It was a 3/10 for us

I just wanted to say it was an amazing trip to Puerto plata. It was my 3rd time there and first time for my grandson. He really enjoyed taking the plane for the first time. We did alot of activities like dunebuggy, ziplining and cable cars. We swimmed everyday and the ocean was warm and relaxing. I'm looking forward to go back sometime soon. I thank all the wonderful staff at be live collection marien. Also thank you trip central and especially jaris at trip central

Very clean. Friendly staff. Good Food. The only issue was the inability to book an a la carte dinner. Always booked up early in the morning and selection was limited. Otherwise a very nice, clean resort.

The BeLive collections Marien in Puerto Plata in my opinion was a great pick for my daughter and myself to relax and celebrate her completion of her university degree this April. The staff were kind and very friendly. The resort is a bit on the smaller side so walking everywhere was quick and easy. It's even wheelchair assessible which is a great feature The Beach's were fairly clean of seaweed. Saw the workers early every am cleaning the seaweed that washed ashore over night away. The security on the beach kept the vendors from bothering the guests whole they were relaxing . The vendors were only allowed along the waters edge. The location of Puerto Plata is situated on the north eastern aspect of the island so is directly touched by the Atlantic Ocean and because of that the waves are very active and stir up the sand constantly. This made snorkeling from beach almost impossible due to limited visibility. The sand was very fine and soft in most places. There are excursions to go snorkeling but we did not partake on any. I was surprised that even though there was floating seaweed in water near the shore there were very little shell debris or jellyfish floating on our trip. We were in the ocean every day. Water was awesome. There are no umbrellas on the beach but the nearby trees provide ample shade for all. There were always lounge chairs available at the pool and on the beach. At the pool there are umbrella like structures to provide shade but often they were taken fairly early in am on weekend. On week days usually always was able to find shade loungers at the pool. The pool was very clean and well maintained. They even provide small garbage bins around outside perimeter of pool for patrons to dispose of garbage so they aren't littering on the property. Unfortunately some of the bushes would have vomit smell due to guests over indulging and sharing with bushes later at night. This is not the fault of the resort and it should not be penalized for this. The workers were always cleaning and power washing the walkways. On the weekends the local Islanders visit and fill the resort. They were all very respectful and fun to be around. The food was tasty and even though not a great variety we were always satisfied. The a la carte restaurants alternate being open through the week and all 3 were open on the weekend. You need to book the a la carte each am for that night and need to be at the booking desk prior to 9 which was when the worker would arrive. We found this strange as other resorts you would book all at beginning of vacation. We were only able to try one as we often slept in and were too late to book. The food was good. And service great. Our room was in one of the older nonrenovated buildings but suited us fine. The maids kept it tidy daily and all but one day replaced towels. One day they took towels but because we were napping when they came back with new we never had towels for that day until next day. We brought small roll of rope so we could hang out wet clothing on the balcony to dry a bit over night. Most am the clothing and towels were dry. We exchanged our towels daily with no problem. The resort and island no longer require usage of masks everywhere providing all are vacinatef. The workers still all wore masks. But rarely saw a guest wear one. Most people did socially distant from others not in their party and there are reminders and taped markers on floors for people to do so when cueing for bars or buffet. There is hand sanitizer bottles situated all over the resort and signs to remind guests to frequently clean their hands. All in all we did enjoy visiting this resort. There are a couple changes that would make it great. Having a coffee bar for special coffees all throughout the day in lobby or on site . I did read somewhere on another's review that there was but when I asked a worker she said there wasn't. I do plan to return here in the future just not sure when.

Traveled with 3 kids ages under 6 years old and was a fantastic experience. Veronica at the kids club is amazing!! When kids are happy mom is happy :) pool is pristine with roped off shallow ends...a huge help when supervising little people. Food was fresh and flavourful...bring stretchy clothes to accommodate all the deliciousness! Lots meat and variety. Kids loved the chef Franko! Wait staff very attentive and maid top notch. Beach very turbulent due to constant winds. Never made it past kids disco so can't comment on entertainment lol overall fun family get away

The staff is fantastic. Rooms are very dated, some smell like mold. Pool is clean and large. Very difficult to book a la cart restaurants. You need to go to the lobby and book for each day, they do not allow you to book for the remainder of your stay. By the time you get to the lobby, very long line up to book the restaurants...to be told they are now full. There is lots of food in the buffet, but it is pretty bland. This was my 13th time to this resort. The resort has really changed over the years, not for the better. The staff tries very hard to entertain. The issues I have are based on "corporate" or maintenance", not related to the staff. Although I had a great vacation and met many lovely people, I would not return again to this resort.

The staff, the service, the cleanliness of the resort, the rooms, the food, everything was amazing. It was my first time in Puerto Plata, but surely not last. Everyone was so friendly and ready to always help.

The room had a great view. Beds were comfy. A/C leaked and I slipped on water and hurt myself. Food was mediocre and the same every day. Staff other than bartenders were not helpful. I would not recommend this hotel. View from room wsas great

The resort is beautiful itself. The rooms do need some updating. We had an issue with our air conditioner that they didn’t seem to resolve, however eventually they did ask if we wanted to switch rooms. The a la carte restaurants on site have great food. The buffet never has a shortage of food. The grounds are well kept and clean. The entertainment staff is friendly and social. It would have been nice to see more activities during the day around the pool like they use to a few years ago. The maid service was great and friendly. Nightly entertainment was ok. As we have been before, we have seen most of the shows. This is not the resort’s fault by any means.

No complaints we did the vip package. Food was good entertainment was good ,, people were fantastic. The room was a bit dated but we were only there for sleep. I would go there again .venders weren’t pushy. Pool was clean. Beach was fantastic

Well i had the unfortunate experience of having my passport stolen the day before my trip and only realized at the airport trying to book ...wow what a nightmare !! But my friends went without me and they all loved it and would all return ....so i guess i would return also ....but hopefully with more luck .... Thanks

I have been traveling to the Dominican for over 15 years and did about every resort . The Be live Hotel in Puerto Plata was the first one that I can say live up to there standards . You are welcome with great service , the food is great the servers are polite and very friendly. They have on site like all other resorts people trying to sell you time shares , BUT I CAN SAY this one they do not harrasse you for the service . On the beach the same thing the people selling thing walk by but don t come to you directly to sell they are controlled by the security on the beach.The disco is all inclusive and the rooms are very clean and enjoyable. The pool is very large and not over crowded like other resorts. I would recommend for adults or family to go to this one. 5 star in my books.

Just got back from a one week vacation at Be Live Collection Marien, Puerto Plata. Had a wonderful time. I was so impressed with the well-kept grounds. Cheers to the grounds keepers who worked hard at raking up leaves, washing the floors and walks around the pools, keeping the beach free of any seaweed/garbage. It was a beautiful resort. Three different pools, each having their unique purpose, three a la carte restaurants (Mediterranean, Brazilian and Mexican), the buffet kept good hours and had a wide variety of tasty foods, plus a snack/beach bar that served food from 10:00 am. Serving staff and what appeared to be all locals working at the resort were friendly, full of smiles and quick to greet with "Hola". Two bars included a pool bar and one that overlooked the beach. Endless supply of loungers. For being reading week, I never had to stand in long line ups, towels and loungers were always available. After taking a stroll along the endless beach, past many other resorts, hands down, this resort had the best beach. The ocean floor was sandy and able to walk quite a ways out without fear of it dropping off. I was very surprised that there weren't any peddlers on the beach so had no fear of being pestered. There were some time share personnel that stood close to the buffet but with a very simple No Thank you, they left you alone. If there was one thing I thought could have been improved upon was the cleanliness of the rooms. Bathrooms could provide conditioner, a better swept floor, and perhaps one more towel. Overall I would love to return.

We had an awesome time here. Room had everything we needed, the food was good, entertainment was good, beach was good, and we lucked out with perfect weather ! Would recommend this place, great value, bang for your buck!

I enjoyed the resort. It was very clean and well maintained. My room was very nice. I enjoyed the pool, the bars, and the entertainment. The food was very good and it was plentiful. There could have been more seafood. The only complaint I had was the beach. The oroblem was that the currents washed a lot of algae onto the beach, making me reluctant to swim in the ocean. I would recommend this resort.

The rooms are old and the service was below par. Everyday had to call after room was cleaned because the staff forgot to leave things like towels,soap,shampoo, restock mini bar. I don’t mind things being overlooked one or two days but everyday for seven days was a bit much

I usually don't pay too much attention to reviews, thinking that everyone has a different opinion based on their expectations, past experiences, etc. However I feel compelled to let people know about the lack of concern regarding food safety at this resort, which I believe caused both my husband and I to become ill. There is a snack bar down near the beach, at which they cook hamburgers. One day when we were in line, we noted the cook got out a tray of raw hamburger patties and, without gloves, grabbed some and put them on the grill. He then wiped his hands on his apron and continued on getting the buns out with the same hands. Not washing at all. I was horrified and every who saw left the line. This made me question whether in fact they are as concerned about water safety as it was described they were - if they don't pay attention to washing their hands after handling raw beef, are they really concerned with rinsing their veggies and fruits with clean water? On a side note, it was also my observation that this resort is severely understaffed. There were mornings when we would make it through entire breakfasts without a coffee, despite asking multiple staff walking by if they could help us; there were only one or two staff covering large sections and I'm sure they were running ragged. Generally, it also seemed that staff were unhappy, or at least not as engaging as staff at other resorts, with very few smiles. You'll all make up your own minds, but please pay special attention to the lack of food hygiene - as I said, my husband and I were both sick through our last days and even after we returned (and no, we didn't drink any tap water!!).

The view from our room was amazing of the mountain. Pools were spotlessly cleaned every single morning. Beach was beautiful - could always find a lounger (finding shade sometimes was iffy). Food in buffet and beach bar was delicious - always a selection - even for picky eaters. A la Cartes were not my favourite - felt rushed and under appreciated. Drinks were fabulous. Husband wished there was one more bar though (preferably in the pool :)). Nightly shows were okay. Entertainment team by the pool was very good. We got an amazing deal for the Adult VIP from Trip Central - I think if I had paid more I'd be a bit more disappointed in some aspects of the hotel and my stay. But you get what you pay for!

This was our first time to the Dominican Republic. The resort was clean and tidy. Staff very friendly. Food was excellent. The a la carte restaurants were excellent and offered food not availbe at the buffet which was nice. Airport was close and we were wisked off to the resort and did not have to wait around. We did an excursion (Cable car, rum tour, etc.) which was great.

The resort was well laid out. Room was clean. Big bed. Nice sandy beach with no shortage of chez's. The buffet food was okay. I highly recommend the Mediterranean restaurant for the reserved dining. Take your own drinking containers for water and bar drinks, otherwise they give you those cheap little plastic cups at the bar. Shauna gave me a great deal on a last minute booking for one week and the process was seamless. Would definitely recommend.

I spent 8 days at this resort. Pros: The food was really good with a lot of different items to choose from, grounds well kept, the shows were good. Cons: Not much animation, especially for solo travellers, people wake up at the crack of dawn to reserve spots around the pool by putting towels on transats without using them for hours

Was a nice resort to spend a week with family. Rooms were very nice and comfortable. Travelled with an infant and accommodations were great. food was very good. Beach was nice but water was too rough to swim in 5 of the 7 days. Staff very friendly.

Beautiful property. Well laid out. Huge swimming pool with lounge chairs for everyone. Choice of sun and shade around the pool. Lovely beach with lounge chairs too. Different nightly entertainment each night of the week. Buffet restaurants cater to all international travelers' tastes. Be sure to make reservations in advance for the three restaurants on the resort. Early check-in is not possible but you have use of the resort if you arrive before 3pm. All rooms are spacious with a balcony and mini-fridge that is stocked with very minimal soda and beer. Free large bottles of filtered water are provided in all rooms.
