The hotel has been divided into TWO separate hotels … so we had no adult pool … had to fight to get to use the pool but could not eat or drink on it , even though I was all inclusive … the hotel itself has been neglected ( have stayed there 20 times ) now it’s just dirty and uncared for … maids spend all their time behind their carts texting . Garbage in the hallways for days … the rooms are barely cleaned …dead plants …would NEVER go back . As I mentioned I have been there 20 times …food was barely ok … bland and cold … Waiters are defeated … they are forced to work in the new hotel and are not getting tips ..

If your looking for a trip to see what "Authentic Mexico" is all about this is a great spot to stay! I went from Dec 8-15/22 and they have doing some great renovations that will make this hotel even better. The "tower" (8 floors) ocean view rooms are certainly the best ones their and well worth the money! Top notch restaurants, Cafes and Night Clubs all within a short walk.

Fantastic location in the heart of all the nightlife and action of Old Town. Terrific and attentive staff. Food options are buffet-only, but surprisingly good (but some the best restaurants in PV are right around the corner anyway). Upgraded to an oceanview junior suite, room was enormous and very clean. Adult pool was heated to a perfect temp and overlooks the beach. Never had a problem getting a lounge chair around one of the pools. Would definitely stay here again, and recommend it to friends.

The location is ideal with beachfront and Old Town on the other. Staff are very welcoming. Food and interior improvements recently. Loved the new look in the main dining room overlooking the ocean. Very clean and great value for stay.

This hotel is very nice, the meals were good, the rooms clean, the staff excellent. Nice pool area and great views and location. The rooms are very dated and the beds very hard, but they are updating the hotel so hopefully they update the rooms soon.

The hotel is dated, but they are working on upgrades. The lobby, dining rooms and pools appear new. It appears they are working through the floors gradually. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. The location is superb. The food was okay. At times it wasn't hot. At lunch and supper there was always a pork, beef, chicken and fish dish. Steamed veggies at every meal. Not once was there any guacamole or fresh salsa - something that I was looking forward too. Many of the guests were repeaters. Once lady was their for her 11th year. Good value for the money. Most likely I would return.

We stayed for 11 days at this resort in January. Our room was great, it was a standard room with partial ocean view. The room was updated but sure would be nice if they would throw in a fridge. The bed was very hard but that is normal for Mexico. The food had little variety from day to day but for the price it was okay. Since the price for the hotel was cheap we ate out at the local restaurants most of the time. The location was perfect, walking distance to everything we could ever need. Really could use an employee to serve beverages around the adult pool:)

I just spent 12 days at Hotel SAN Marino and will definitely go back!!! It is excellent value for the price! The location was the best possible!! Walking distance to everything you want or need!! The staff are all very friendly and helpful! The hotel is very very clean and charming. Lots of lounge chairs and tables to relax at. Food was good, housekeeping did an excellent job and bartenders were friendly and efficient!! I Highly recommend this resort!

Very disappointed in out room..not upgrades and very disappointed that there was no service at all had to go to the bar for drinks and had to call down for towels in our room numerous times..also found a pair of old underwear in out room from a previous visit upon check in.

We were very happy with the Hotel SAN Marino!! Excellent value, clean, exceptional service, charming, good food!! We couldn’t have asked for more especially at this price! Very happy!! We will return!!!

SAN Marino located in the heart of Puerto Vallarta is fantastic. It is right on the ocean, close to the Malecon, real Mexican old architecture, museums, & shopping. Definitely the flavour of old Mexico. The staff are exceptional, clean rooms, & good food. Very good value if you are on a budget. Loved it!

Location, location. location - perfect for any traveller who wants to experience the Zona Romantica, Los Playos beach and pier. Very well kept property with friendly and caring staff. You won't go wrong choosing to stay unless you want the Taj Mahal with all the bells and whistles. We really enjoyed ourselves and felt welcome at all times.

The location of the hotel is the best! The hotel is super clean and the personnel is friendly, in good humor and fantastic! The room we occupied is in need of tender loving care. We saw renovated rooms and we will get a renovated one when we go back! The food was ok, never left a meal my stomach empty.

This is an older hotel that is constantly being cleaned and maintained. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It has recently changed ownership and you can see the new owners are taking on the huge task of bringing new life into this gem. Beds could be replaced and some rooms still need updating but you cannot beat the location. I have now stayed in this hotel 4 times and it is just getting better.

This hotel reminds me of Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC which was amongst the worst hotels I've ever stayed in but in the best location available. It's right on the beach and right by the pier, and you can walk everywhere to shops, restaurants, the "malacon", and along the beach with beautiful sunsets. But it's a "tired" hotel which caters primarily to Mexican families. It wouldn't cost a lot per unit to make it better, but I don't like to see mould in bathroom showers, nor encounter cockroaches- yes, I know they inhabit warmer climates - but two was too many. Address this issue, fix up the bathrooms, fix up the patio doors that don't slide properly, get rid of the 50 year old drapes, a coat of paint, buy better bath towels, put a few plants on the great balcony some rooms have, etc. I don't think any of this would cost a fortune, but sure would improve the hotel and the guest experience. Would I recommend this hotel at this time? No. Are there better hotel s in the same location? Probably yes. Is this a great location? Yes. So maybe someday it will improve or be torn down. The hotel Pennsylvania dilemma.

My sister and I spent a week in San Marino Hotel in early March. We had a fantastic time. This resort has it all for travelers who are looking for an authentic, personable experience. The staff is great! Very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We made a lot of friends. And that goes to all positions starting with the Reception desk, the Security guys, the bell boys, the housekeeping, the servers and the cooks. There were daily fun activities organized around the pool, but we didn't have a chance to participate. The room we got was renovated, bright and airy. The bathroom was ok, but it would benefit from renovation. The hotel is committed to renovations, and they do a good job making it look seamless for the visitors. The beds were firm, but not uncomfortable. There was always plenty of hot water. The beach lounge area was cleaned daily and chairs and loungers setup at around 9 am available for use until 6 pm. With the days getting longer and nice weather, it would have been nice to have a use of the chairs longer than that. But it didn't stop us from enjoying the beach front. One of us being vegetarians, we had a bit of a challenge to navigate the buffet. Once again, the servers were knowledgeable about the dishes and guided us through the selection. On a few occasions when there was not much selection of non-meat dishes, they offered us an alternative, like pasta or beans. The breakfast was our favorite meal, but lunch and dinners had always a selection of fresh greens, great variety of salads and Mexican dishes. Various preparations of fish were available for each lunch and dinner and they were delicious. Pork, chicken and beef dishes and various sides were quite versatile as well. Drinks were good, both beer (light and dark) and cocktails. We didn't try the wine. I would stay again and recommend this hotel to my friends.

I felt the service was Brilliant and the food exceeded my expectation I have been to PV many times and never experienced San Marino. I highly recommend . The location is perfect for exploring Old Town and in the heart of the Gay district

Hotel was kept very clean found it dated but good value for this part of Mexico. Location was excellent right on the beach and close to shops restaurants etc. We found we were not eating at the hotel in the evenings ate at the local restaurants.

The hotel was kept very clean the buffet was average. The biggest selling point was the hotel was very close to beach and all the action. We went to the restaurants around the hotel a lot. ...........

We love the old town location right near the pier. If you want a peaceful beach location this is not it. If you enjoy people watching and want to be close to galleries and restaurants, it is great! Our standard room was quite roomy, even with a wheelchair. The hotel is old but clean, and some rooms have new draperies and mattresses. Towels were usually new feeling and looking. The safe was an extra charge. We found the buffets not huge but perfectly ample and tasty. Always at least 3 meats and a fish dish, 3 salads, several vegetable dishes and a limited choice of cake for desert. They don't have a pasta bar or a grill for chops, etc., but there is a grill for eggs at breakfast, which has the most North American food. If you want mostly North American or other ethnic food for lunch and dinner, you may not be happy. It is a compact resort with some nice trees and flowers and lots of tile and concrete floors outside. Both dining areas and the beach are down a short flight of stairs, which was a nuisance for a wheelchair user. There was a variety of ages and ethnicities there. The adult and the family pools were both on the small side. The staff were very all friendly and accommodating. We would recommend the San Marino to those looking for a good 3 star experience. Just don't expect 5 star meals and rooms.

This hotel is in a great location, rooms are average nothing great. I wouldn't pay for the all-inclusive the food is not edible at the buffet, there's lots of great restaurants around in walking distance.

Located on the best beach in the heart of the city's action. The staff are great - always happy, smiling and willing to help. Not recommended for people with walking difficulty because of the stairs to the bathroom from the pool or the beach. Superior rooms are very basic and I suggest you upgrade your room if you can afford it.

Very good hotel on the beach in Puerto Vallarta, excellent and friendly staff, Lovely well kept grounds, 3 pools, Location was excellent, close to restaurants and entertainment area. Food was very good. Room was very clean and quiet..

We upgraded to an oceanfront room... Well worth extra money. The view was great, the rooms clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We went all inclusive, and for the price it was a good deal... I will definitely be going back!

Everything was nicely kept and always clean. Didn't like that they had too many groups of teenagers booked who took over the hotel and were very noisy. Many of the other guests complained too.Also rules weren't observed regarding young children in the adult pool which was marked as not to.

The hotel rooms were kept very clean, but basic, soon to be needing a remodel. The hotel facilities itself were very basic, but comfortable. 2 pools, one for adults, the other for children. Meals were always on time, good food and lots of different types of food. The staff are fantastic. Please always keep some tips handy.

Not fancy but great staff, clean rooms, WiFi, good food, on the beach within the town and 5 minute walk to the Malacon. Separate kids pool and fairly quiet adult pool. Incredible restaurants surrounding the area. Families and LGBT welcomed !

apparently was once the best hotel in old town. . iI think it was built for president Kennedy. if you can afford the ocean front upgrade then it might be worth it. Would only stay there again if super cheap. Beds are horrible as is the food. Lunch might be ok> Usually go out for dinner anyway.
