We arrived late at the resort so check in was not a problem. We were escorted to our room handed the key and left alone. Well the room smelled like a damp ashtray and did not look much better. Not bottled water and hand soap out of its package which looked used already. Being so late we waited till morning to ask for a new room which they did exchange after we waited for the boss to show up. We decided to have breakfast...if you want to call it that. Minimal offererings, stale buns no bread. You had to toast the buns on a grill beside the lame omelete station. Watered down juice almost no fruit or any choice other than eggs. We could not eat. We had a good cappuccino at so called cafe. Not a good choice of resortsat all even at this star rating. We walked by the pool and it looked merky not clear. No beer served at the beach bar. We ended up switching Hotels with the one next door a couple hours later.

We loved the Hotel Costa Sur outside of Trinidad Cuba.. It is a small resort on a fabulous beach. We stayed in a bungalow on the beach, a bit more expensive, but worth it. The food was some of the best we have had in over 25 years of going to Cuba. The staff were charming and helpful. Getting into Trinidad is a breeze, It is a World Heritage site, and full of music and good restaurants. We met people who have been there over 30 times, one couple there for 3 months, others for 2 months. We will look into doing that for next year. A real find. That it is only a 3 star is misleading. For people who like beauty, swimming in calm seas, eating simply but well, and especially, peace and quiet, it is a perfect place.

Great people and good service. The resort has been in a bit of disrepair over the last while but new management has begun to make a difference. We are frequent visitors to this particular resort and recommend it for those who want a quiet get away. In the truest sense please remember your get what you pay for so if you are looking for a glitzy show this is not your ideal resort. What you will find is a friendly and engaged staff who will, if you smile and are polite, go our their way to make your stay enjoyable.

We enjoyed our one week stay at Club Amigo Costa Sur. There were not a lot of people at the time which was fine with us. The grounds are well kept, the room was always tidy and clean and the other buildings seemed fresh at all times. Food at the buffet and the grill was always delicious even if there was very little variety. The one a la carte restaurant served a lovely meal. Lots of fresh towels and linens. The washrooms in the lobby and the pool area were a constant disappointment. There was always a broken door, missing seats, and never enough toilet paper. They were also a fair distance from the beach. We often had to trek all the way back to our room to use a clean, dependable toilet. Our only other disappointment was that we could not upgrade to a bungalow even though we saw several that were unused. I do have to say that the staff were the friendliest we have ever met. Thank you to Club Amigo Costa Sur for a great week!

We have stayed here three years in a row. This time for one month. We like the people who work there and the people who stay there and we feel like family. The weather is always amazing and so is the ocean and the view of the Sierra Escambray mountains.

Bungalos were well maintained and lovely right at natural ocean pool. Short walk for meals at dining room, or grill. Food was healthy, lots of veggies fruit, cheeses etc. Fresh breadsfish, chicken etc. Staff was polite and pleasant to deal with. Grounds were clean. Massauge on beach great price and value.

This is a smaller resort which is just what we like. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The rooms clean and comfortable. No power outages the week we were there. The beach is smaller than most and is has some rocky areas, but the oceanview from the bungalows is beautiful. It was very easy to get a taxi into Trinidad. Some of the staff have very good english so it was easy to get answers to our inquiries. The others are trying hard to learn english and are very friendly. I

Beautiful location, rocky beach! Food typical of Cuba. I like to walk on a sandy beach & swim on the sandy ocean, was unable to do this at this hotel. People nice if tipped. Came with 4 others upon checking into hotel, my friends were given keys to their hotel room, but I had to wait in lobby for 2 hours to get mine. This was untrue, because my friend was able to switch bungalows while I was waiting in the lobby. Had no sleep at night, due to crabs tapping on the ceramic floors... traumatized by the creatures. So glad to be home!!! My luggage us still outdoors for fear of bringing some of the large tropical cockroaches & black spiders in my home.

Costa Sur is a lovely resort, very quiet and the food was good on Cuban standards i.e. a little bland but fresh and varied. The rooms were clean, and possibly because we had a bungalow, quiet. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Internet access is available in the lobby, with the purchase of a card, though, as everywhere in Cuba, slow. Only a couple of 'issues'; sometimes the hot water took a little time to start up and there was the occasional power outage usually only lasting a few minutes. We also came at the end of the rainy season so there were some mosquitoes. The setting couldn't be more perfect, only a short ride to Trinidad, a very lively and beautiful city, and close to Topes de Collantes natural area in the mountains (be careful which nature hike you choose as some actually require a fair amount of fitness). You didn't need to leave the resort though to have a great experience, with daily salsa lessons and evening entertainment (thanks Daniel and team!) and beautiful clean beach. They also have a wonderful natural 'pool' created by an arc of coral that was shallow enough and protected from the big waves, perfect for children and non/weak swimmers, and beginner snorkelers. Sunsets are spectacular!

Bungalow was satisfactory. Maid service was great. Food was average, stay away from the Pork liver. It didn't agree with me. Beach was excellent. Unfortunately, there were a lot of mosquitos (it's the season) so come prepared with ample bug repellant. I visited in the middle of May.

Location is wonderful; bungalows very comfortable and clean but basic. Food okay - definitely not gourmet but overall good value. Beach bartender(Lázaro) was a delight! Amazingly the pile of broken beach chairs in front if our bungalow stayed there all week. ☹️ Overall experience positive.

Great food, good staff, wonderful place to start a bike ride. The view on the water is super to start the day with a coffee. The apartments in the Tropical area were quiet with a great view. Great pool. Too bad there is no bike for rent.

We stayed in a roomy bangalou close to the beach. The view was nice with the distant mountains on the horizon. We enjoyed the food, fresh and with enough variety. The resort is close to Trinidad city, the unique place to visit. You also could make a great safari trip to the waterfall Guanayara, wich is approximately 30 km from the hotel and located deep into the mountains.

This resort is outdated and a 3 star because of it. But it is a solid 3 star where the grounds and rooms are well kept and clean. While I was there, gardening and other repairs were being worked on daily. In Cuba all resorts are at least 50% state owned. This one is completely owned by the Cuban government and so the food wasn't as good as it is when someone else has their hand in the resort. Still it was edible and if you can't find something in a buffet, there's a problem. The location of this resort is just amazing. Beautiful views of the ocean and mountain range. The a la carte restaurant and snack bar are ocean side- it doesn't get any closer. The swimming area in the ocean is naturally blocked off by rocks, creating a natural pool. This was fantastic to swim in, no waves and warmer water. There is dead coral near the rocks and any fish to see while snorkeling. There is also live reef in a couple spots down the beach with even better snorkeling, including black coral and more vibrant fish. I would return to this resort in a heart beat. The nearby town of Trinidad is just amazing.

It is a nice comfortable hotel with a beautiful calm beach for swimming and watching the sun set. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Costa Sur has guests from several different countries and there are many repeat guests. I would go back.

People were super nice. Great view on the sea. Best cycling place of the world. Too bad there are no bicycle store in Trinidad. Next time I will get them from Cienfuegos. However, the hotel was nice enough to allow the bikes in the hotel

We came from this place at Dec.4 2015, everything was very good for 2+star resort! very good sweamin and snorkeling. Personal are very friendly. Room (we had tropical) was very clean, towels exchange every day. Restorane food was good, only I don't like fly around (the have to do about it). I really like this place and like to come back in the future.

the beach is ok.a little small.pool area is fine .waiters are very nice.no hot water for shower.for the price it was a good hotel.the woman how change the money,did had 2 jobs.So if you had to change,you are always had to wait.and the computer did not work for Hotmail.now that was a shame.

The staff was superfriendly, from the time we checked in to the time when we left the shuttle bus. Although the "toys" we not bountiful what was there was more than enough to keep myself and my three kids happy. There could be more food options but with the snack bar and the buffets there is more than enough options. Not a resort for every one, as finicky people would find things to complain about but if your willing to suck it up a bit there is no reason why you wouldn't enjoy your stay.

This hotel has the friendliest staff in Cuba, a lovely, tranquil lagoon surrounded by gorgeous vistas and makes you feel like family. The bungalows are clean and right on the lovely beach with calm waters and the mountains in the distance. A perfect spot for a no frills family vacation on a budget.

Service was outstanding . Grounds and rooms very clean . Food substandard even to Cuban standards . Pool very clean and very cold . The beach is where everything goes south ..well because there really isn't one ..and the few within walking distance are public ..which we were reminded of several times a day by the Cuban Public Beach Watchdogs . Cubanair ...yikes ..never been stuffed into a plane like that ..it was terrible ..and just for good measure they kept the air temp. in the plane at 85 deg. or so the entire flight ...both there and back .. Very glad we booked when price was bottomed out ...felt sorry for those folks that paid top dollar .

Oldest, smallest and friendliest hotel on the beautiful Ancon Peninsula. Just 15 minutes by taxi to historic colonial Trinidad de Cuba. Rented a seafront bungalow (you should too) for two weeks. This hotel is quiet. No lager louts and yahoos stumbling about in a drunken stupor at 9 am. Lots of overnight day trippers so avoid the breakfast buffet until after 8 am when they board their buses. Great staff especially Caridad. She has been working in the restaurant for 40 years. And Lazaro, Andre and Jesus (not that Jesus) make the best Mojitos. Buffet had good variety of fish, chicken, pork and lamb. Thursday is roast piggy on the spit day.

We had a bungalow on the beach. It was a gem. Very clean & cozy. Both, the naturally enclosed beach and the pool were great. Food was well prepared, and well served. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and we were very pleased to make new friends, both among the staff and the guests. And yes, we certainly will return.
