Fantastic Costa Rica vacation
Absolutely beautiful hotel and grounds - we enjoyed the constant bird noise of many different species and having monkeys on our balcony. While the hotel is 1.5hr from airport and many excursions you truly are immersed in Costa Rica views, mountains and biodiversity at this resort. Our room was beautiful and well kept daily and we loved every meal at every restaurant.

Beautiful but large resort nestled in a forested area
The grounds of this resort are well-maintained and extensive. The pools and beach were beautiful. The food and service were good and the staff were very nice. The only issue we had was with the restaurant dinner reservation system, which was haphazard and favoured the "executive members" or if you were willing to pay $35 US per person. Often, tables sat empty for most of the dinner service because they would be reserved for one of the above groups. This meant you had to eat inside the buffet, which was basically the same food every evening, tasty but nothing special. On Christmas eve, there was no buffet, only dinner on the beach, for which you had to pay a very expensive surcharge for the same thing normally offered in the buffet. The rooms and most spaces on the resort were clean, but for some odd reason, many of the outside walls were not. Also, it is best not to go here during Christmas and New Year's because the noise created from turning two of the pools into the New Year's evening event, which you must pay extra for ($100 US per person),Christmas Eve dinner on the beach was also $100 per person and there was absolutely nothing extra for Christmas day dinner just the regular menus. Also, the wines offered are only the two houses, red and white. All others were very overpriced, cheap wines. There is lots of wildlife, birds and nature to see on the resort and around the resort and there are trails through the mangroves too. You can easily see all three species of monkeys. We did the sunset cruise and fishing trip, which we booked directly on the beach. These were wonderful, too. There are lots of tours to take as well. There are car rentals right at the resort, and you can book online with Enterprise before you go. There were lots of kids activities and the resort really catered to kids. No one in our family got sick, and we ate and drank everything. Lots of great weak specialty drinks, so you can have many without getting too hammered.Lots to eat and the pool food was good.

Fantastic Resort, no complaints
This hotel was beautiful from the rooms to the grounds, to the food, to the staff. I travelled with my 6 year old, and he loved the place too, everyone was so kind to him and helpful. Food had something for everyone and never a long wait. I went for the swim up room and definitely a game changer, so when the heat go to be too much for the little we could go back to the room and he could nap or go in the pool at the room as it had some shade. I would 100% revisit this resort.

Dreams Las Mareas was a hidden gem
Loved the whole experience: the staff was friendly, the food options were great, the grounds and the beach were lovely for walking, the suite was spacious and clean, the monkeys and the birds were all over the place at the resort and plenty of excursions were available off site to see even more. The sunrise hike coordinated by the resort was a nice opportunity to see the area, it was a good little trek but pretty steep! Good idea to wear proper footwear ?

Honestly we don't like to go back to the same resort twice but it will be hard to compete with this one. Food, booze, staff, room all top notch. The animal life in and around the resort was epic. If you have young kids, I'd suggest giving them gravol for the bus ride; it's a bit long and windy.

3 dressed up as a nine
Based on a 35-year travel history. The grounds are as advertised.😀 Sadly the rest is not.😢 Took a breather before posting.🙄 Accommodations: Junior Suite? Would have appreciated a truly separate bathroom. Water/toilet closet with a curtain without a fan…. Yup…you smelled it🙂 Married 33yrs… some things should have privacy â—ï¸ Food: Mediocre at best🤗 Restaurant Food service staff… speak fluent Spanish… you get better than someone who speaks ‘Spanglish’ Availability & Coordination of off-site trips Scuba should not be advertised in any way. Snorkelling should only be advertised as at a extreme cost. All excursions should be noted at an extreme cost. The foregoing comments are based on a 35 year travel experience! Giving a few days to digest… this was our 2nd to worst vacation ever. So many opportunities for improvement!

Amazing pools
The pools and grounds at this resort are very nice, it’s set up so it never feels crowded. The rooms needs some revamping, did not like the set up. The food we thought was very good. But the pools are definitely the heart of this resort. The staff also are very helpful.

Beautiful resort
Entertainment was really good and bands were excellent.pPools are beautiful and well maintained. Grounds are well kept. Bar staff at pools are amazing. Bar staff at piano lounge is extremely slow in the evening.drink selection is varied. Daily newsletter is informative although it would be nice to have it slipped under our door every day like on the many cruises I have been on. The company who run the excursions both in the hotel and at the beach side seem disinterested and not very helpful. Therefore we booked an excursion from a fellow on the beach. Massage prices at the spa extremely costly and therefore booked a beautiful one hour massage right on the beach unrelated to the hotel. The food was just good. I can’t believe reservations are not allowed at any restaurants. The Italian restaurant was our favourite. The French restaurant was an embarrassment-its just tables in a hallway with no views. It’s like they just added it with no thought. Tried to get in Saturday night and no tables, went back Sunday night to find it closed. Returned Monday night at 7 and told to return at 8 even though there were some empty tables. The hostess ignored us for some time then seated us. It took one hour for salad and appetizer. Waited ten minutes for a top up of wine , our entree had not arrived by nine o’clock and we left without saying a word. We were extremely disappointed. The 1 and 1/2 hour ride to the resort was long and bumpy and not picturesque. The transport from the airport to the hotel left without us and we contacted the Air Canada rep Rose Gomez and filed a miscellaneous clients report, she said the other passengers were transported. We searched at the airport and saw no signs of Air Canada or of Dreams. There was a long customs line at the airport, we ended up taking a private taxi to Dreams for a cost of $100USD.The resort rep said she would follow up with a superior and email me which she never did. Overall it was a relaxing and enjoyable trip. However, I will never book a resort so far from the airport and any excursions.

Not as Expected
My wife and I both got food poisoning at the resort as well as another couple we met, cleanliness is subpar, pools filthy and glasses only rinsed at pool bars when they have dishwashers on site. Night life is terrible and main bar closes at 11pm only leaving dance club available for drinks, we will not be returning to Deams in Costa Rica or any other.

Good Family Resort - Lots of Weddings!!
Beach/Pool 3/5 The Pool is absolutely beautiful but there were a few concerns. There are lots of stairs throughout the grounds so many of the pool areas are inaccessible for those with accessibility concerns/strollers. We found ourselves very limited in where we could access and enjoy our time if we had the stroller with us and our little one was sleeping and we could not remove him. Another thing we found very frustrating was the chair situation. This hotel does not monitor the chairs being saved. The pool area will be almost completely overrun with saved seats/towels by 7 am. If chairs are left unattended the resort, unfortunately, does not enforce any type of policy regarding the removal of items for other guests. We also noticed the pool concierge saving seats for other preferred guests which just did not sit right with us. Service 4/5 The service at this resort was exceptional. From the concierge to the bartenders. Everyone always went over and above to make sure our experience was positive. The only thing I had any concerns over was that there were particular service employees who would ignore you if you did not tip/give a large enough tip compared to those around you. Food 3/5 The food was mediocre. The buffet had limited choices for picky eaters/kids and seemed to be the same for lunch/breakfast daily with only rotating a few different nights throughout the week. The restaurants were fantastic however the wait once seated was very long. Meals would take approx 90 min from start to finish and takeout was unavailable at the restaurants. The room service was great. Rooms 4/5 Housekeeping was amazing at what they did. They were consistent and kept up with every request we had. There were some concerns with the cleanliness and when we brought it up they fixed it right away. Beds were comfortable and the TV channels were great. Value 4/5 Overall the value for this resort was fair. We felt like we had phenomenal service, good food and we were able to relax and the resort gave us what we wanted for a vacation. Location 2/5 Unfortunately the location of this resort was not researched enough and if we had known what little there was to do around we probably would not have chosen this location. The ride to town is a very long and bumpy 35 minute ride and town does not have much to offer.

Perfect way to recharge your batteries
Candice from tripcentral helped book our perfect getaway to Dreams Las Mareas in Costa Rica. The seclusion and pristine surrounds of the beach, pools, and resort were well worth the comfortable 1hr drive from the airport. The resort provided so many activities for every taste, and such a wide variety of fine-dining menus and restaurants that 7 nights was not enough for us to try everything. (Terry’s nature tour should definitely be on everyone’s bucket list!) From booking through Candice at Trip Central to the attention to detail by all the staff at the resort, our experience with customer service was outstanding. Thank you everyone for making our first trip away in 2 years so restful and so memorable. All our friends are jealous!

Beautiful Resort, friendly staff, good food, well appointed
Overall, the experience was great and we would absolutely return. The bus ride in from the airport is a little longer than expected, but worth it. This is an important thing to note if your flight is long or have little ones. In comparison to other resorts at a similar price point and area, this one is far superior for landscaping and shade for those with families. The beds are doubles, not queens but are very comfortable to sleep in aside from being small. Food was good, restaurants had plenty of options and for the most part, the cooking and wait staff were excellent. Bar service was lacking marginally at some bars. Additional (knowledgeable) bar staff needed at the lower pool and beach bars. This could be in part due to the addition of new staff, or covid etc. The wait staff at upper pool was excellent Kids loved the soft serve ice cream option daily at the bar. Something to note to bring water from your room if you are heading to the pool early. The bars do not open until 10am, this includes non-alcoholic beverages. The only bar open early is the preferred lounge. Pool area was always clean and tended to. Loungers are plentiful and lots of areas for sun and or shade available. Recommend getting there early to save a spot for larger groups if needed shade or by entertainment area at lower pool The Coco Cafe had excellent service, coffees were wonderful and the options for ice cream daily were a nice treat for the kids (and adults) Maid service, room service, bellstaff were all excellent The views are amazing The Capuchins are so great to see up close (Great view of them from the 3rd building) but the experience of having them on your balcony from building 7 & 8 (I think) would have been unbelievable. Will be requesting a room on that side next time Although reservations are not needed for restaurants, get there early if you have children. We had a few very late meals because we were delayed (even though we got there early at the restaurant opening time) There were a lot of new staff members, which made for more of a language barrier than anticipated, but for the most part the staff was so friendly and accomodating (maid, waitstaff, bell, maintenance etc) There were lots of towels always available at the pools Pool towels are clean, wrapped neatly, and very large. Check in was simple and the staff was polite. Helpful Things that were not brought up but helpful if you are heading here: Bring your phone to meals to open up QR code for menus. Wifi is decent through the entire resort. There is a qr code in the room for the room service menu The QR code in the elevators brings you to a menu showing what the entertainment is for the day The hibachi meal requires a ticket, but the restaurant does not. Tickets are obtained at the concierge by the check in. The sunset kayak is only a few days a week, so book it when you arrive.. things like that The giftshops have a variety of anything you may need, but everything is quite expensive there for the most part. There are not options close to the resort (within walking distance) offsite to get them easily. A 30 min ride or so to the nearest town is a less expensive option for liquor, shopping. The waterside is excellent. Overall, a great place to visit. We would recommend and return.

Overpriced and overpromoted
I expected to go to a medium-high level 5 stars resort and I was disappointed to realize that overall it is not. COVID-19 wise: I was amazed to realize that in the bus on which we spent two times one hour and a half (from airport to the resort AND from the resort to airport) there were people without masks and nobody from AirCanada agency enforced the basic COVID’s rules! Room: I booked an ocean view room and yes, I got a very far view to the ocean and also a very close view to the very noisy entertainment ground. Also, this ocean view room is in the main building which is the farthest building form the beach. The room is average and could be paid more attention to cleanness. Beach: If you love to stay on the beach, this is not a place for you. There are few beach chairs and no umbrellas or beach sheds on the beach. I spent a lot of time chasing unoccupied beach chairs, or moving the chairs under the beach trees looking for shade. Services: The first day I asked for beach towels in several places and the only answer I got was “there are not towels right now but will come in 15 minutes!†very Cuba-like attitude! At least in Cuba the beach is very good and the price is one third of the price I paid for this resort. Food: cafeteria food was decent without the variety found in Mexico or Dominican Republic at the same resort level. Restaurants’ food generally good and well presented, but again, the quality can vary from one day to the other for the same restaurant for the same dish. Wine prices are way too high! Entertainment: Good daily aerobic in the pool. General atmosphere: the resort is very green and it presents a very nice landscape with interesting trees and nice bushes along the alleys I am not sure that I will ever return to this resort.

Beautiful resort
Beautifully maintained resort! We usually prefer the beach area over the pool, however the ocean a little colder than the Caribbean. Beautiful sandy bottom at the beach but most of our time spent at extensive pools with beautiful infinity edges overlooking the beach. Service top notch, people extremely friendly and accommodating. I wish we were here longer than a week! Felt very safe here, all staff & most guests were very compliant with Covid protocols.

Beautiful Resort
We enjoyed 10 days at Dreams Las Mareas and that was the perfect amount of time. The resort and grounds are absolutely beautiful and the staff were amazing. The breakfast buffet was plentiful with many options and it was well laid out to help prevent over crowding and line ups. We ate at all of the restaurants but found the food quality to be mediocre at best. We found the pools to be packed with children - yes even the adult only areas so we spent our time on the beach which was extremely relaxing and did not require us to save a lounger at 6am like everyone else at the resort. We enjoyed our stay and felt that Dreams was a solid 4 star resort but definitely not a 5 star resort. If you’re travelling with a large group or with children then this is definitely the resort for you. But if you’re travelling as a couple I would suggest finding an adult’s only resort as there are truly no adult only areas here.

Wonderful resort
Great place , food and service were great !!! Staff is friendly, we were very happy with our stay. Not a lot to do in the evenings but that wasn’t a big deal for us, we were up early every morning and tuckered by 9 at night. My only negatives about the resort are the location is really far for most excursions, so to avoid long bus rides we did an atv and boat excursion, both were great !!! Also the lighting near stairways, elevators and pathways to beach restaurant are dim or non existent

Peaceful and beautiful
Resort was incredible, grounds are gorgeous, lush and very well kept. Beach is quiet and sunsets are gorgeous. Staff all very nice. Rooms well appointed. We stayed in building 8A which had a Beira of the ocean but very private. A bit of a walk to the main lobby and most restaurants but very close to pools and beach and oceana restaurant. Food was absolutely outstanding. All the seafood is fresh, presentation incredible. Cant say enough about the food. In fact best food we have ever had at an all inclusive specifically Oceana, the Sushi at the Japenese restaurant, Mexican restaurant and the pool grill was also amazing. Would def recommend to anyone. Preferred club allows you access to a lounge where they have a small buffet and also top shelf liquors. Well worth it for us! Only downside is the 2 hour drive from airport but we knew that going in. Take a trip to the rainforest- def a highlight of our trip.

Dreams Costa Rica
Fantastic all-inclusive resort, if you don’t mind things a little quieter and lots of privacy. We stayed in preferred near the beach with an ocean view, well worth the upgrade. The food and restaurants are very good, the seafood is outstanding! No signing up for restaurants, pagers are given if you have to wait a bit, no more than 20 minutes for 2 ppl. Service was good and gets better when you take the time to get to know the staff. Be prepared to travel a bit (1-2hrs) for off resort excursions but the sloth jungle trail we did was a highlight. Gorgeous grounds and new clean and spacious rooms. Lots of pools and activities. Beach is clean brown sand and water clear. It is the only resort in the bay. I would recommend this resort to anyone, and we’re not all-inclusive lovers. Who doesn’t like seeing monkeys on the beach:). Great selection at the hotel souvenir shop however I must complain that the prices were the worst price gouging I have seen, worse that the airport even.

Comfortable and enjoyable vacation
We found our vacation at Dreams Las Mareas very enjoyable. The room was large and had many amenities to make our stay delightful and the view of the tropical greenery very relaxing. The hot tub on the balcony was invigorating and a plus we did not expect. The attention to detail in all the food areas made for very delicious and appetizing meals with service second to none. We enjoyed the beach, rather than the pool area, since lounge chairs in cooler and shaded areas were always available. We were pleasantly surprised that the hotel made a fuss about being there for our 61st anniversary by placing a large banner on our room door, housekeeping made a large decoration on our bed and sending, and room service placed a fruit tray and a bottle of wine with glasses, bottle opener, etc. to celebrate the occasion. There was always a shuttle service cart to take us to distant parts of the resort and the entire staff made sure we were always satisfied with the service we received.

Great spot if you are looking to just kick back and relax.
The hotel facilities (rooms, restaurants, pools and employees) were exceptional. Everyone was very friendly and made sure our stay was as pleasant as could be. Food choices and quality were excellent. It might not be the best choice if your interested in doing a lot of excursions to see Costa Rica as the resort is fairly isolated, so most excursions required a considerable amount of time being spent on tour busses.

THE GOOD The resort is large and the grounds are beautiful, the pool area is kept immaculate and is very large with a variety of pools. Above expectations!!!
Staff was incredible. From front lobby to servers to maintenance staff, all of them knocked it out of the park. Resort is perfectly laid out and beautifully landscaped. Even though it's not an adults only resort, there is till large pool area designated for adults only. We used this area quite often. The swim out pool was very nice from our room. The only thing we could say non positive about it was the fact there was no privacy wall between our room and the next (Rm 2105 & 2104). One could very easily be installed and it seemed every other room had one. Perhaps it was just a missing during construction. Room was very nice and cleaning staff did a great job keeping that way without even knowing they were even there. Beach was ok. We spent most of our time near adult pool area just for simple fact that the beach is public and there are vendors on the beach that sometimes just can't take a hint that you are not interested even after repeating yourself several times. As stated before, resort is perfectly laid out. The trees and bushes dampen the sound from around the resort and is very relaxing place to be. World Café buffet offered something for everyone and the restaurants were decent enough. Only non positive thing to say about the restaurants is that we felt the service was slow even when it was not busy. Had to ask several times for the same thing from several serving staff until we got it. Not a huge deal, but when you are really hungry/thirsty, it would be nice not to have ask several times for the same thing. The Preferred Club lounge was very nice and we were quite impressed. Premium liquor and personalized service with a small snack buffet available just to get away from the majority of the resort and chill on their patio. I have already highly recommended this place to others and if/when I ever return to Costa Rica, this place made a lasting impression and would most likely return. It's a very large resort but feels small at the same time. Does not have a franchise feel to it and we enjoyed that. The resort is quite remote, so going on excursions involved a lot of travel. We wanted to go to Coco Beach for a half day or something to go to local bars and shops but was far too expensive to get there and back. Also....my wife lost her favorite hat on a Tuesday, reported it on the Thursday and the staff returned it to her on the Friday. She was thrilled and was shocked at the same time. Excellent service by the staff.

Wonderful Week!
My wife and I spent a week at Dreams Las Mareas commencing April 8, 2019. We had conducted research on the resort prior to our visit and found the experience to be absolutely excellent. The staff were great, the food was excellent, the resort clean and tidy. The beach was also very clean and great for swimming. We found that there was plenty of things to do and therefore we had an active healthy vacation in spectacular weather. Special thanks go out to Gaby and Maria at Swiss Travel: Morela and Nolan at Amstar, Mauricio at the Entertainment Centre and Dennys at the Oceana restaurant. All of these individuals excelled in customer service and made our visit that much more enjoyable. Improvement Opportunities: The hotel provides free Wi Fi. We found it to be very inconsistent. It is great that it is free, but it also needs to work. The hotel sales effort in regard to the Spa and also Wine. Guests do not desire a hard sale on this minutes after checking in. Please drop this practice. Neil and Jane Davidson.

We went to Dreams for our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for a better resort! It was rainy season, but that was perfect because everywhere you looked, there was greenery. The grounds were kept so clean, as were the pools. There were so many pools to choose from and plenty of towels and chairs! All of them were very clean and maintained really well. There weren't many pool activities but we were okay with that because we wanted to relax. At first we were hesitant because of the all ages resort, but we actually ended up using the all ages pool more then the adults only pool. The bars by the pools had quick service and the bartenders would always come around and ask if we wanted any drinks. The bartenders were honestly so amazing. It made staying by the kid's pool side better! The beach was okay. The mountain view in the background was great but if you're going to Costa Rica for the beach, then this isn't the destination for you. Because it is a public beach, there are locals there who will try and sell you their excursions. They are friendly, but it did get kind of annoying after which made us avoid the beach altogether. We stayed at the jungle view building and it was great. At first, all we saw were green trees but every morning, we'd see white faced monkeys jumping through the trees! Some even came to our balcony for fruits. The room was very open. There are frosted glass doors but that's about it.. I suggest you definitely be comfortable with your roommate. We didn't use the tub in the balcony, but it was a cool feature. The World Cafe (all you can eat buffet) was good. The food was kind of repetitive after 5 days but if you switch it up and go to the a la cartes, then you'll be okay. We did however get sick the last day of our 7 day vacation and we suspect that it may be from the raw sushi. Himitsu was amazing. Great show and the best restaurant at the resort. Portifino (Italian) and El Patio (Mexican) restaurants weren't bad. Coco Cafe also had great coffee and gelato. The Barefoot Grill by the pool also had good lunch but it was the same everyday - burgers, sausages, quesadillas and wraps. We did the Mega Combo excursion through Swiss Travel. It was amazing! Best experience ever. The package came with hiking, natural water slide, zip lining, horseback riding, mud bath and volcanic hot springs! Definitely worth the experience for sure. Overall, we are very happy with our decision to go to Dreams for our honeymoon.

Very nice resort.
The hotel is well maintained with species rooms well equipped and clean. The service is great. Grounds are beautiful except the beech. it is not the ideal beech because of it's nature but it could be better if it would be kept clean from derbies, like broken branches and most importantly the death fish.

Hidden Paradise
Dreams Las Mareas is a beautiful 5 star resort. The grounds are spectacular and well maintained. The many pools seem to connect one to the other. Often buffets tend to become boring after a couple of meals, but Dreams keeps it fresh and exciting day after day with their many themed meals. Dine in or out at the buffet that is set up every evening on the patio, the choice is completely yours. The food at the al la carte restaurants is above and beyond. The service either at the buffet or restaurant is top notch. If you prefer room service that can be provided at any time. Top shelf liquor is available at the bar or grab a creative drink by the pool. Our room was always well cleaned and the mini bar was stocked with the type of liquor we preferred. The only negative I can mention is, if going on excursions is your preference, Dreams is far from many excursions making it difficult to do so.

Good resort
This was my third stay at an AMresort property. The hotel grounds were beautiful and well maintained, rooms were nice and food was good (although a bit inconsistent). We found the buffet to be our best bet when it came to meals since we were traveling with a big group. We managed to switch our room from Building 5 to Building 2 which had a much better ocean view vs jungle room view. However, if you’d like to see monkeys come to your balcony stick with Building 5! While most of us prefer the beach we chose to stay poolside for the majority of the trip since the water was cold and we are used to the Caribbean Sea. Overall, a great family trip. Keep in mind this isn’t the place to be if you’re looking for a hotel in a central location since it’s far from a lot of tourist attractions and excursions and the hotel is pretty quiet at night.

Dreams Las Mareas beauty, service and solitude
Dreams Las Mareas is a fine resort in the remote mountains of Costa Rica. Service was excellent and amenities just fine for a smaller resort. Given the resort is away from the hustle and bustle of other areas and a bit smaller than we are used to, the entertainment was adequate but nothing special lacking full shows and 24 hour party. Tennis courts and more entertainment engaging the guests together would be appealing. We did see alot of private parties and weddings etc... and they were well done!! Daily activities were just average with the slide and trampoline open for limited times. Other than the entertainment or the lack of a warm Caribbean beach, the resort is amazing. Pools were beautiful, food and gardens abundant. We were there for 10 days with an 11 year old and did 3 full day excursions. Deep sea fishing was awesone. The areas of Jobo and La Cruz quite stunning and remote as is the day at Buena Vista. Dreams does not cater to a busy Caribbean vacation if you are looking for that. We did do a full day tour down to Tarmindo, Flamingo and Coco beaches and found the water was much warmer but the traffic and garbage a bit distracting and very touristy..... Dreams is a quality resort and the service, location (other than blue warm water), food and did I say service? was excellent. Staff do say It's a Pleasure. which is nice.. but Dreams is a newer resort and needs to find something that makes them "special" or "stand out" from others.....like focusing on the uniqueness of the area maybe...eco -boutique hotel in the mountains and maybe cater to environmental conscious people by offering recycling and not using straws or plastic and wasting so many dishes etc.. Great place to visit!

Not as Good as it Looks!
Upon looking at pictures and upon first arrival, the resort looks amazing. You are greeted with friendly staff at the lobby, however that's really the extent of the friendliness and customer service. The resort lacks lighting at night - especially when you are walking back from the beach area to the your building or buffet. Many guests were using their flashlights on their phones. There are no lifeguards for the family/kids' pool area. Pool chairs are reserved early in the morning by guests who are not in the immediate area. Because beach towels do not have to be returned in order to get a new one, towels are left on pool loungers even when guests have left the pool. Hence, pool chairs were never available for other users. There was not much selection at the Buffet. Staff were not customer service oriented and did not speak or understand English. At the Buffet, each time you entered, you had to wait in line to be asked your room number and the number of guests, then wait to be seated. Men were not allowed to enter the Buffet in tank tops. We were seated in areas on a number of occasions where the lights were turned off. When we asked for either a different table or for the lights to be turned on, we were told 'No' to another table or that the lights were not working. Housekeeping was minimal. We were a family of four and had requested for four towels, however kept receiving only three. We also requested for extra pillows and did not receive them until the fourth day of our stay. Spa prices were outrageous, even with discount vouchers offered upon check-in. We were advised by our airline rep to check out a day early (express check-out) and when we arrived at the Front Desk requesting to check out, we were questioned as to why. Seemed like they did not know their own hotel processes. Nightly entertainment could use a lot of improvement. Shows were not entertaining and lacked variety. The overall friendliness of staff did not seem sincere and appeared to be extremely forced. The only great service we did receive was when we booked our excursions. Swiss Travel / Air Canada reps were amazing! They explained the trips, offered what would be best suited for our family, provided cost saving opportunities and overall, great customer service. Would definitely travel back to Costa Rica, however would most likely consider a different resort.

Nice resort but too remote
Very modern resort, some buildings require a lot of walking uphill to get to your room, I had to change rooms one time because after 3 days it's extremely exhausting. The food is good but no Costa Rican food except a couple things here and there in the buffet... the ocean is what you would expect in Costa Rica but that's not why people go to Costa Rica. Overall it was a nice resort but way too far to get away for a day. Another thing is the bathtubs are on the balcony and there isn't even another tub in the room.

Not a 5 Star Resort
I would probably give it 4 stars. Mostly based on the food. It was such a disappointment. I mean, how can you screw up hashbrowns? But they re-fried them so many times to try and not waste it that they ended up with a hard and cardboard tasting product. The variety of the buffet was not great either. The restaurants were ok, with the habachi table in the Japanese restaurant and the Italian restaurant being the best options. I would have reserved the hibachi table twice if I knew the other options weren't that great. Although the hotel said they were 3 years old, the rooms seemed outdated. The housecleaning service was inconsistent. They forgot to give us back towels the one time we asked them to be changed, the turn down service was anytime between 7-930 pm, and the floors weren't cleaned each day, which was obvious since the floors were tiled. I still had a good time in Costa Rica, the warmth and the surroundings were beautiful! However, if you're looking for clear blue waters and white sand, this place is not for you. The sand was nice enough for me and although the water was not clear, it was still a nice temperature to swim in. I did not use the hotel's recommended excursion company, but used Alex on the Beach instead. They were cheaper and their service was much better. On the two excursions we did with them, there were only 4 of us on the tour, so it was practically a private tour! This was awesome on our Nicaragua tour, especially getting through the many many passport checks when we went through the border. We got through in less than 15 mins. While others who were on the busier tours, had to wait much longer, since they had to wait for all 30-40 passengers to go through the same checks over and over again. I would definitely visit Costa Rica again, but would not come to this resort again.

Awesome resort
This resort is the best one that we have been to on our forth trip to Costa Rica, the service, food and hospitality was excellent during our stay. Except for the last night we had dinner at the Buffett restaurant, the cook behind the seafood grill was very rude and miserable. Maybe he was having a bad day but he should have left at home. The only thing was that the Air conditioning was not able to shut off when we pressed off, it would automatically turn on after a few minutes, they did try to fix this problem three times but I guess this one was an auto mode no matter what setting you entered. Over all we had a great time and the grounds are beautiful. The location of the hotel is surrounded by rainforest and we got to see three out of four kinds of monkeys. Thanks Dreams for a great week, we are planning to return in the near future.

Most beautiful Resort we stayed at ever.
Dreams was an absolutely beautiful resort. The pools are endless and surrounded by beautiful lounges with comfy cushions. The pools are set up in such a way that you have a lot of options for privacy. Lots of options for kids at kids club and kids pool that close to the other pools. Food was excellent. The sushi restaurant was excellent. The Italian was very very good as well. Many options and you never felt like you didn't find something amazing to eat. Gift shop was great. Many bars and a night club. Staff are very friendly and had great options if it rained. One night movie night was moved inside and it was on a huge screen in the conference centre. Spa was really expensive. Beach was nice and well cared for. Room service was available everywhere even though it didn't say that on the website. The only real downside was the resort is very far from everything else.

PURA VIDA "Pure Life" well defined for sure. They say that a lot in Costa Rica and for good reason. In short its an AMAZING place to spend quality time with your family. We decided to go in late June, it's their rainy season but Guanacaste apparently is not so rainy. A few days with rain lasting anywhere from 10 min. to an hour and at times raining while the sun was out. All around no big deal. The resort; excellent, by far this is one of the best Dreams we have been to. It was clean and well kept. People are genuinely friendly and wanting to help you. In my opinion the food was too good; excellent well presented, and suited for any palate. The excursions, really good, a little pricey but all around great deal. I would caution to watch your wallet. They prescribe to the 3 foot rule, If your within arms reach your given a sales pitch to a; Hammocks, wooden bowls, pencils etc. The children are poor and they make crickets and heart shaped art pieces from palm leaves, I didn't want to be a heartless bastard so I took lots of $1.00US bills and freely gave them some money for their efforts. Sad, no one should be hungry especially in 2017. That said ... Amazing place, I generally have a rule not to visit the same place twice, but in this case I will return for sure.

Overall, my husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Dreams Las Mareas. However, the food was a hit and miss. Gorgeous resort!
The resort was beautiful and the service was very good. There was a great variety of excellent food and unlimited visits to the a la carte restaurants with no reservations required. The pools were gorgeous, but sometimes a bit noisy and crowded. We saw monkeys right from the infinity pool that overlooks the beach. The beach was ok, but the ocean was very cold during our first week and snorkeling was not an option. The check-in was the best and fastest we've ever had. We had a swim-up room, which was wonderful. We usually had the pool entirely to ourselves. The only other drawback was the location - it was far to travel for some excursions, but close to Nicaragua, where we went for a really great day trip. Overall, we had a fantastic time.

Dreams Las Mareas is a beautiful resort with great, friendly staff. For the size of the resort it was never an issue for seating around the many pools or having to wait for a seat at one of the 5 a la carte restaurants. The only downfall was that it wasn't close to any towns to shop and explore.

It is a well maintained property located in a beautiful setting. Their eye for detail was evident in terms of the upkeep of the grounds, the pools & the restaurants. The staff was always smiling, very pleasant & helpful. The lighting on the property was poor which was a safety hazard. We didn't have any hot water in the shower for the 1st 5 days of our 7 day stay. Dreams Las Mareas was definitely a fantastic resort. Zero complaints, very cozy, delicious food, spacious rooms. Definitely in my top 3 destinations globally! I would return in a heartbeat! Staff was amazing too. Although we booked just 3 weeks ahead of time, we realized we might not get double beds in the room but the hotel upgraded us free of charge to a swim out room to accommodate. Although the upgrade was great, it doesn't bare directly on the review - it's the fact that the staff always wanted to ensure you were comfortable and enjoying yourself. They went above and beyond. The wooden lounge chairs have very comfortable cushions with white terry cloth liners and a rolled up beach towel on every lounge each morning. You can have as many dry towels as you need everyday and there are no uncomfortable plastic wrist bands to wear during your stay. Room service is truly 24 hrs, your bar fridge is really fully stocked every day and the concierge is on top of every request. The rooms are gorgeous and large, each room has a bathtub on the terrace (we had a ground floor room). It was a trip to remember for sure and we will certainly be back. Lastly the staff are the nicest people, always smiling and there favorate thing to say is "it's my pleasure". Dreams @ Christmas
My husband and I are well traveled and have been to a lot of all inclusive resorts in Jamaica, D.R, Mexico and Costa Rica. This was our first family vacation outside North America with our 2 sons who are 5 & 6. I hope others can find this review helpful as we spent a lot of time researching and reading reviews as to where we should take out first trip. Overall we are happy with our choice to go to the Dreams Las Mareas in Costa Rica. It was our second vacation to C.R. Here are so pros and cons about our trip. Bus Ride - 1.5 hrs sucks to be on the bus in the heat. The guides are nice though. The roads are bumpy and narrow. Like others posted the gravel part is extremely hard on the stomach and those prone to motion sickness should take some ginger. Grounds - Beautiful, Lush, Green, and well maintained. It was the start of the dry season so everything was colorful and beautiful. Costa Rica is a beautiful country. Pools - More than you can swim in. The resort was rather busy because we visited during the break but there was always a chair and room to play. The water was clean but always had fallen leaves and debris. Unfortunately for the grounds keepers its a constant battle because of all the surrounding trees. Cannot fault them on this. They make a good effort to keep it clean. Wildlife - We saw monkeys, iguanas (big one named coco), lots of colorful birds, and raccoons (who dump garbage cans over and eat room service plates). We went kayaking and saw 1000 puffer fish in the bay. It was crazy how many there were. We also saw baby stingrays about 15 feet from the shore at the beach. The kids found the hermit crabs to be interesting at both far ends of the beach. Rooms - Always clean and well kept. Refrigerator was always stocked. Like other people said it is a little weird that the bathroom has a class door only. The room is just one big suite. Not too much privacy except for a curtain you can pull. Another family thought it was awkward with boys who were 10 and 12 sharing a room with their mom and dad. But the beds were comfortable and linens were clean. The balconies are nice to sit out on in the morning with a cup of coffee. The tub is nice to relax in as well outside. Beach - A perfect size. Its a private beach so you don't have hundreds of people walking past you everyday. There are a handful of vendors that are nice. They don't seem to have too much competition so they are not pushy. There are nice trees to sit under for shade when the sun gets really hot in the afternoon. We always had a chair. There is also someone who takes drink orders which is a lovely touch. Kids Club - The women who worked at the Explorers Club were amazing with our kids. Probably the employees that stood out the most for me. They were friendly, active, engaging, playful, genuine, and actually played with the kids. They were wonderful. I felt very secure leaving the kids in their hands. They have a locked gate that parents can drop off and retrieve their kids. Our kids went for 2 hrs almost everyday. They handed us a buzzer (like you would get at a restaurant when you wait for a table) and the kids buzzed us when they were ready to go. Beautiful. TIP - on the resort event schedule they had a part for the kids club. It has what the kids were doing every hour. So we picked what time the boys would go and they were happy to engage in the activity. Things like zumba, sandcastle building, water balloon fights, beach time, crafts, games on the wii... etc Restaurants/Food - We found the food to be average. I wish they would have had more authentic costa rican food. Breakfast buffet was always the same. So it got a little boring. The best things was the homemade crepes and waffles. And the evening buffet only opens at 6:30 in the evenings. Way to late for kids that need to be settled and in bed by 8. The restaurants opened at 6 or 6:30 but with a la carte dinning they took even longer. There were times when food would fly out of the kitchen and times we waited 45 min for a salad. It was really hit or miss. Sometimes we couldn't get a cup of coffee or water at breakfast. Other times the cups were never empty. The ordered room service 4 times and tried different things. It was always quick (20 or 30 min) but there were not too many options. A bonus was the coco cafe was always open. So you could always grab a quick snack from there and a coffee, juice, pop etc. Overall it was a wonderful first family trip. I would recommend others to visit here. I will say if it was just my husband and I traveling we would not go to Dreams Las Mareas as a couple. The resort definitely caters to families with children. There are a lot of kids here and a lot of noise that goes along with it. We would definitely choose an adults only. I hope these tips are helpful to those planning their vacations : )

Overall - ok
Overall we were a bit disappointed by the resort on this trip. It really all came down to the level of service. We went just before Christmas this year and there was literally no staff. The bars had 1 person making drinks - getting a morning coffee was super painful and getting your own was really not an option. The room fridge was rarely stocked and this resort claims great room service options...not the case at all. There were some positives - the pools were very nice and the grounds were beautiful. The food in the restaurants was really top notch as far as resorts go. The buffet however was a huge disappointment for breakfast and lunch. Our room was very nice and bed was fairly comfortable. The pool walk-out was also a nice feature. Overall - my family was MUCH happier at the RIU Palace in Costa Rica last year even though it was not as highly rated.

The resort is very beautiful and the food is very good the room service 24hours and also very good . They had lots of really good entertainment . Cafe world had really good coffee freshly ground lattes and snacks . The only downfall is the beach dark and murky but the view is amazing. the room is was very nice no point in upgrading Oceanview because they all are and have hottubs on balcony every room . DON'T BOTHER GETTING THE 200 DOLLAR COUPON IT'S A RIP OFF. THE DUTY FREE AT THE AIRPORT IS CHEAPER THEN THE RESORT GIFT SHOP. 2 BOTTLES 10 BUCKS. Jose maria Number 1 best bartender WE WOULD DEFINITELY BOOK THIS RESORT AGAIN.

Quiet, Remote and Beautiful
Typical AM Resort, very similar to the Secrets brand however, it is a family resort but not that different. Good food, Good selection of quality liquor. Plenty of bars and restaurants to suit whatever cuisine you like. Disappointment with housekeeping on a continuous basis. Often having to call for amenities not left or towels shorted when housekeeping did show up. We had requested Housekeeping with a three hour window that rarely was ever met. Often coming back to a room not made up after giving more than adequate time for that to occur. Bellman did not show up for our bags although we gave him plenty of notice as a result of only having one cart for the whole resort because the others were in maintenance we were told causing us to take her bags basically to the checkout counter in the preferred lounge. The all inclusive AM Resorts has that down to perfection unfortunately the willing staff wasn't quite always up to the task. The remote location would be perfect for someone looking for a quiet getaway and I would recommend it for people with or for that matter without children since there are areas exclusively for both. Clean and modern and simplistic would be the best way for me to describe this cookie-cutter AM resort. I guess consistency would be the best way to describe it. What's wrong with meeting someone's expectations consistently

It was all a dream...
Dreams Las Mareas is a beautiful resort, the staff are all so welcoming and helpful. Monkeys come by the balconies in the morning but are respectfully ushered out by breakfast, so you'll see plenty wildlife even if you don't head out for an excursion. :)

Great service!
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay for our honeymoon. The service was great and the resort was beautiful and secluded! Our honeymoon package included a massage at the spa which was divine. I'd definitely recommend this resort.

Amazing resort.
gorgeous and comfortable and high class. new resort, great bang for the buck. very comfy rooms and beds... great restaurants. super friendly and helpful staff. its a new resort ( less than a year ) so i hope it stays as nice as it is right now... the only thing that i can remember that needs improvement is the disco.. its really cool but the music is way too loud and the selection is not that great.. we had a super time.

Pura Vida!
We were first time visiting Costa Rica. Dreams Las Mareas resort exceeded all our expectations (we had a preferred club room in building #2 -- definitely recomended). Staff (housekeeping, restaurant, bar and entertainment) is friendly and knowledgable. Nicaragua trip was excellent. The food was great. We couldn't be happier with this resort and highly recommend it. We can't wait to go back.

Beautiful Place
My husband and I stayed at the Dreams Resort for our honeymoon and returned last Saturday. The resort and grounds are absolutely beautiful and well taken care of. The food in all restaurant's was to DIE for however the service needs to be worked on. There were several days that we returned to our room (around 3:00-5:00pm) and our room had still not been cleaned. Our fridge was rarely stocked with water and beverages. We had to call down a few times just to ask for water. Due to having a no reservation policy at the restaurant's also felt like a rush to eat. If you did not get there within the first hour you wouldn`t be eating until 8:30 or 9:00pm. Other then those small things our stay was lovely and we had an amazing vacation. The resort is breathtaking.
