The Algarve has been drawing travelers to Portugal's southern coast for decades, and it's not hard to see why. Golden limestone cliffs dropping into improbably blue water, long sandy beaches, whitewashed villages full of fresh seafood and cold wine, and enough sunshine to make the whole thing feel almost surreal. Pair it with a few days in Lisbon, one of Europe's most captivating cities, and you have a trip that manages to feel like two completely different holidays all within one small country.
The combination works so well because Lisbon and the Algarve truly complement each other. Lisbon gives you history, hills, and culture: the Alfama and its tangle of medieval streets, the electric food scene, Sintra just 40 minutes away by train. The Algarve gives you dramatic sea caves at Ponta da Piedade, long flat stretches of beach near Tavira, and the kind of slower pace that makes you forget what day it is.
Our Algarve and Lisbon packages are designed to give you structure where it counts and breathing room where you want it. They include flights from Canada, accommodation in both destinations, and transfers between them. Some include organized experiences and day trips built in at key points, while still having plenty of free time to explore at your own pace.
Departure Airports
Most of our Algarve and Lisbon packages are built around departures from Toronto, Montreal, however if you're departing from another Canadian gateway, give us a call and we can help you find the best connections.
Popular Itineraries
- Portugal's City & Coast: The most popular starting point for first-timers. You begin in Lisbon, long enough to get a feel for the city and enjoy a day trip to Sintra, before heading south to the Algarve for beaches.
- Lisbon and Algarve Long Stay: Designed for travelers who want more time in the Algarve to really slow down. You’ll have plenty of time to find a favourite restaurant, stake out your perfect spot on the beach, and feel like a local, if only for a little while.
- Family Package, Algarve and Lisbon: Combining a city stay in Lisbon, with an all-inclusive resort stay in the Algarve, makes this package one of the most hassle-free ways to see Portugal. Spacious rooms that sleep up to four make it particularly well suited to families travelling with kids.
- Urban Vibes to Ocean Tides: Lisbon's energy followed by the Algarve's calm, framed as two distinct experiences rather than one continuous journey. A slightly different structure that works particularly well if you want to feel like you've had two trips in one.
Where You'll Stay
Lisbon: Lisbon is a city for wanderers. Built across seven hills above the Tagus estuary, it's warm, unhurried, and full of character. The historic neighbourhoods of Alfama, Mouraria, and Bairro Alto are best explored on foot, stumbling upon scenic viewpoints and neighbourhood restaurants as you go.
The Algarve: Portugal's southern coast is one of the most beautiful stretches of shoreline in Europe. The landscape is dramatic in a way that catches you off guard: towering golden cliffs sculpted by the Atlantic, hidden sea caves, and wide sandy beaches that seem to go on forever. The region runs from the wilder, windswept western coast near Sagres all the way east to the quieter, lagoon-laced shore around Tavira, with plenty of character in between.
Albufeira: The Algarve's most well-known base, Albufeira sits roughly in the centre of the coast, which makes it a practical choice for exploring in either direction. The old town, set on a hill above the beach, has genuine charm, with cobbled streets, good restaurants, and a lively atmosphere. The beaches nearby range from busy and social to quieter coves just a short drive away.
Algarve & Lisbon Weather
Portugal's south coast is one of the sunniest stretches of coastline in all of Europe, and the Algarve is remarkably pleasant for a long stretch of the year.
Spring (March through May) is a lovely time to visit. Temperatures in Lisbon and the Algarve are warm and comfortable, the almond trees have already finished blooming, and the beaches are uncrowded. A strong choice if you want good weather without the July heat.
Summer (June through August) is peak season for the Algarve, with long hot days, calm warm water, and some of the best beach weather in Europe. Expect higher prices and more company at the popular spots, particularly in July and August. Worth it for many, especially if beach time is central to the trip.
Autumn (September and October) is arguably the sweet spot for a combined city-and-coast trip. The sea is still warm from the summer, Lisbon is at its most comfortable, and the crowds thin out after mid-September. A very strong time to go.
Winter (November through February) is mild and quiet. The Algarve sees more rain, but temperatures rarely drop below 12 to 14°C, and the coast has a peaceful, unhurried quality. Significantly better value on flights and hotels.
