The resort itself is very nice and the resort staff are excellent and very friendly. Drinks were nice and a very good selection. But there were a few things that this resort is severely lacking. I've been to many resorts in Mexico that have called themselves 4 star and 5 star and they clearly were. This resort is a 3 star dressed up as a 5. Food quality is very poor. Other than the Asian restaurant that was very good. The buffet had the same food almost every day. Their chef or cooks really need to understand that raw meat, raw shrimp and raw chicken are not acceptable. There was six of us at dinner together and 4 of us had raw food from the buffet. I told the waiter and then showed him all four plates and they did nothing about it. They left the same trays of these undercooked meats for people to put on their plates even after I told the manager and cook behind the buffet. I had to tell people in line that the chicken and shrimp were raw because nobody else did. I will say though I did enjoy the breakfast buffet. Lots of bacon and sausages and eggs and fruits and crepes. The pool is very nice and the only issue here was that you had to pay for the beds and even though there are lots of lounge chairs available, there are no umbrellas near them. Yes we are here for sun but there is no shade when you need it. This really isn't a complaint just more of a suggestion for the resort. (You are turning the white people pink, lol). The beach is not great. They are right beside the ferry pier so all the seaweed gets trapped at this part of the beach. And it smells throughout the resort. The staff do clean it up everyday but this is not a beach that you can spread out a towel and lay down on. Also there is a very sharp angle from the edge of the beach to the water. This is not the resorts fault but just letting you know that if you want that romantic walk down the beach, this beach is not the place to do that. They pile the seaweed 6 feet high. Im not kidding! 6 feet. I could not see over it. Stay away from the lobby. You will be asked constantly if you got your FREE gifts? This is the time share scam. Do not fall for this! It sounds so innocent but you will only end up wasting half your day with these high pressure sales people. We didn't fall for this but we spoke to a few others that had and were not happy. While we were there it was The Royal play del Carmen. But a couple of days into the vacation we were told that it's now the Hilton. And we saw the Royal sign out front get taken down, so maybe the Hilton will fix the few issues with food that they have. Oh yeah I forgot, bring your own shampoo, theirs is very cheap and watery. Again though, this might get fixed by the Hilton. They were replacing the 40 inch tv's with 55 inch when we were leaving so it's definitely getting a well needed upgrade. Maybe they will get some better shows rather than karaoke three times per week lol. It is very close to 5th avenue (the tourist shopping district) do yourself a favour and walk up to 10th instead. Same stuff, 1/3 the price. Tacos on 5th avenue are $10 for 4. On 10th they are 50 cents each, see where im going with this lol. All in all we still had fun. Your vacation is what you make of it. But we prefer a really nice beach and food that you cant wait to eat more of, this wasn't the place for that im sorry to say.

i thoroughly recommend this Resort, my first time in Mexico , and the whole experience was outstandingly amazing, the resort now is going through a new facelift, now as the Hilton Playa Del Carmen, this resort is smack dab on the beach , access to 5th ave which is a must, you have everything at a walking pace, right outside the front entrance of the resort , all resturants, and service was out of this world , people also were friendly .. room was right in quiet area, and close to a few resturants, shows in the evening were amazing .. nothing bad about the whole place .wallmart i might add is huge and within walking distance .. also mega mall .. a few blocks away .. just be aware some of the merchants on 5th ave really try to draw you in to buy .. all in all .. the best time ever alot of people go back many times .. and weddings etc ..

The resort is still beautiful, but under new management many things has changed and not in a good way. 99% of previously served stuff, who actually have built THE ROYAL brand was...FIRED. For all time we stayed, we've seen only TWO familiar faces, whom recognized us. The rest are all strangers. Their slogan is "Home away from home"... it is not anymore ... it is more like motel now. We've seen much fewer people around the pool. That indicates the popularity is rapidly dropping. People are voting by their wallets. In general, service quality has dropped. Pool entertainment is poor. The local travel agents from Best Day where looking at us as at Martians and showing some attitude for no reason. On our way back, we've met a couple, whom also were long time patrons, were also not planning coming back anymore. It is definitely not worth premium prices the hotel is charging for what they offer. The sister hotel "Gran Port Real" was re-branded to ... "Panama Jack" !? Am I missing something...Panama Jack versus romantic "Gran Porto Real"??? Anyway, it was our first destination in early 2000's. We loved it back then and it looks much better than The Royal. Room prices are also still very attractive. On conclusion: bye bye THE ROYAL :-(

Everything at the Royal Playa Del Carmen was top notch. Super clean, excellent food, friendly professional staff. Beach was beautiful. Pools lovely. Close 2 minute walk to 5th avenue for fun shopping. Highly recommend the Royal PDC!!

We stayed at this resort 6 years ago and decided to spend my 50th bday here again. We love this place and especially Guy Fieris restaurant on 5th Ave! We actually ate there twice.we just love5th Ave! We had the lobster on the beach again but to be honest the first time we had it it was a much better experience,more intimate and the dishes leading up to the lobster was also better. Maria Maria's was an awesome time.The waiters were very attentive and the food was top notch-they make you feel very special! The entertainment some nights where amazing and other nights a little to be desired! Over all this resort is beautiful and the staff are ALL attentive to your needs and they all make you feel very special. We had no complaints on the staff as they are well seasoned and we know if one staff member turns you off then that can make or break your vacation. Sincerely Pam and gus

We recently stayed at The Royal Playa Del Carmen. It was a breath taking resort, beautiful grounds which were excellently manicured and the employees were the best I have ever experienced and friendly and respectful. You were greeted every day and at any moment you met with a staff member or walked by one in passing with hand over their heart (literally) and a hello or good morning or good evening. Hector, who obtained our baggage for us was a great man who assisted us not only with our baggage but with questions we had, to the point we would search for him each day to say hello and talk a moment, he made us feel very welcome. Another gentleman, also Hector, Hector Colin I believe, who worked on the pool deck, made a point of greeting us every morning and coming to talk with us each day to ask how we were and talk with us about how we were enjoying the resort and our stay. Jacquie from the Real Club was also a gem, and we enjoyed our tour and lunch with her. While yes it was her job to get to know us better for our needs, we felt a deeper connection to her as we talked with her and got to know more about her and the Mexican culture. The food was so phenomenal, I'm still missing the flavours, and choices. You never waited for a meal it was always hot and fresh and the service was exceptional from start to finish. My only complaint about the food was that of the tourists eating over the buffet bars as they were choosing their food items for their plates or waiting for their friends to gather theirs as opposed to waiting to be seated at their tables. It was put off to want to eat some items after watching food fall from their hands or off a bite they took and landing back in the buffet. And the guy who sneezed all over the bread station in the 24 hour Cafe... Gross!!!! The Pelicanos was our favorite place to eat and Maria Marie's for dinner which you needed a reservation for, well worth making one, you won't be disappointed. I closed my menu and asked the waiter to pick my meal for me from appetizer to dessert and surprise me. I am so glad I did as it was delicious. I'd likely not chosen the meal I had as I'm a creature of habit so by asking them to surprise me opened my eyes to new food and new flavours, not to be disappointed with any of it. Drinks were heavenly, from daiquiris to riviera mayas, electric lemonade and supermans. If the resort wasn't so beautiful I could have opted to stay in suite as well because the royal junior suite was elegant and so spacious and comfortable. The only problem was that it was always damp but that's a climate issue not a room issue persay. Our rooms were always cleaned and well stocked and the aromatherapy essential oils lit each night for us was WOW! Too, if. You have the opportunity, do book a massage at their spa. You won't regret it. We had two couples massages while we were there and likely would have done it daily if we could. We did walk the 5th Avenue strip. That wasn't as pleasant an experience and quite tense from my perspective. From being heckled all the time and insulted when not entering one of their small shops, being called my boyfriends servant and called white skin in a derogatory manner, not a fun experience. It was had to enjoy the shops when you just wanted to get the hell out of there from being pulled in every direction. Hats off to The Royal Playa... I would definitely go there again.

The Royal Playa del Carmen resort truly lives up to its name. We were treated like royalty from the time we arrived till it was time to leave. The staff were the most friendly, gracious and accommodating of any resort we’ve been to. Everything we experienced; from the restaurants, the room service, the Spa, the evening entertainment shows, the poolside service, and the planned activities were all first rate. We came home well relaxed and quite pleased at having selected the Royal. Our only disappointment was that we had to come home. We definitely have our sights on returning again.

The food at the restaurants is very good especially at the Chefs Plate however you need to have an Ocean Front room to access for free. Five course meals that are totally delicious and presentation unreal! On the negative side the night time entertainment is lacking. When we were there March 8-15th they had "entertainment" from 8:30 - 9:30 when the big shows start. What was listed for the 8:30 - 9:30 was "DJ and music. My wife was very excited as we believed that "DJ and music would be dance music, Not so the much as what the entertainment was just some quiet background music!They really need to upgrade the entertainment at night. Jorge at Chefs Plate gives amazing service. Great guy! Janeth at the Coffee House makes the BEST coffee! They have eliminated having bottles of liquor in the mini bar. Too bad!!! Budget issue?! My wife LOVES the location being a 3 minute walk to 5th Avenue and all the shopping

We stayed the beginning of January which included New Years Eve. Our stay at the resort was exceptional. We travel a lot and we both agreed that this resort has the best service of all of the resorts that we've stayed at over the years. The staff were super friendly and were "on" 24/7 - they rarely missed an opportunity to go above and beyond. The resort itself was beautiful and super clean. Rooms a little bit dated, but nothing major and are very spacious. Food was great at all of the restaurants with each restaurant having a fairly extensive menu. Entertainment was just off the lobby and although a bit cheesy at times, overall we really enjoyed it and liked because it was located in a more open area it was easy to come and go. And the location was fantastic. Out back was the lush green resort area with pools and beach and then out front one could be on 5th Ave. with a 2 min. walk. One thing we wouldn't repeat would be to participate in their New Years celebration. We've had better. It just wasn't worth the extra expense of travelling before New Years.

This was our 5th visit to the Royal and they have yet to disappoint us . The concierge Willemina went out of her way to accommodate us with our requests and the food and service was excellent . We are partial to the Pelicano restaurant because of the gorgeous view and even more so because of the fabulous staff - to name a few - Mario at the bar and Roberto , Pedro, Elano , Lucas , Manuel, Geronimo (and many others whose names I may not have mentioned ) at the Pelicano who remembered us each time we returned and always went far beyond what was expected by going out of their way to make sure that we lacked for nothing . The staff at this resort is one of the main reasons that we continue to return each year.

Our entire experience at the Royal Playa del Carmen was fantastic. The resort was smaller, so everything was a short walk away. The resort provided options to be as active or relaxed as a guest would like to be. We enjoyed walking the beach at sunrise, as well as going to the 5th Avenue shopping in the afternoons just a few blocks from the resort. Within the resort, the restaurants, bars and cafes serve wide range of premium choices. The rooms are emaculate, very spacious, and well stocked with robes, towels, snacks and beverages. The resort's motto, expect the exceptional, really reflects the high standard of service my husband and I received from staff throughout our stay.

The hotel property is quite large with multiple wings of the building connected to the lobby. The staff were friendly and attentive. The beach is very nice and there are numerous pools at they provide plenty of lounge chairs. The Caribbean water is clean though rough at times, there are some rocks, and jet skiers, etc. out further. Though one of the least expensive rooms, ours was quite large with Jacuzzi, bathroom with shower (two shower heads), sinks in bathroom and at end of room, safe, minibar that they kept stocked with drinks, water and snacks. It was also quiet. Our all-inclusive plan included all meals at 6 of the hotel's 7 restaurants (plus the 3 at their other property Panama Jack's) as well as the Coffee House, bars, etc. (and they will make a box lunch if you're going sightseeing during the day). The meals were very good--we gained a few pounds. In the afternoons there were various tastings and other activities; every evening there was a show either on the grass or in the large lobby area. Only beware Time-sharing, Hotel Club sellers.

Food was great but drinks were not. All of the bars had no real or fresh fruit or juices except for bananas, so even a rum and pineapple was lousy as I was drinking pineapple 'drink'. Great location, right in Playa so nice choices for food, fun, and touristy shopping. Highly recommend the spa--steam room was fantastic and I'd suggest a massage with Enrique. The water was very choppy all week we were there (the red flag was up), so didn't even bother trying to swim at the beach.

Second trip here and won't be the last. Really good food. Top notch drinks. You can't beat the location. And the service....AAA+++. Cant wait to come back. All employees treat you like family. Out the door to 5th Ave. with all the shopping and nightlife you could ever need. Although don't be afraid to wander a few streets north and the side streets for more local fare.

This hotel was great ! The service was excellent. The food at the restaurants was top notch. The Asiana restaurant was lack luster. The Asiana is the restaurant across from the hotel. The server was rude and inattentive. The restaurant wasn't busy and we had to remind him 3 times about something we ordered The Spa was wonderful. Miriam was my masseuse and she was exceptional. And room service was a big plus. There were many options to choose from and we took advantage of it many times during our stay. Our pool server was Prudencia. She was friendly and very attentive.

There are almost no flaws with this resort. The beach is on the smaller side, but clean, lots of loungers available, plenty of towels and decent enough drink service while you're tanning on the beach. We had one of the swim-up suites, which made things so easy for us, as we always had a quiet pool available for us to just slip into and cool off, we never once went into the main pool. (Shhh ... don't tell the staff, but we loved our late-night dips into pool. So refreshing after a great meal!) The food at this resort is actually really good. Many options are available, plus room service (which wee never used as we like going to all the different restaurants and actually sitting down for dinner). We went to most of the restaurants at the Royal, as well as 2 at the sister resort 'Gran Porto' across the street. In our opinion, (food was so good, this was the only resto we went to twice) the best restaurant available at the Royal is “El Mediterraneo” ... all of our food was prepared incredibly, presentation and service was top notch. As luck would have it, our waiter on both occasions was Julio who was not only super attentive, but also remembered our drink order from our first visit. The second best, was probably “S'padas” at the Gran Porto. It's in the style of a Brazilian steakhouse, where all the food (read as meat here for all you carnivores) is brought to you on long skewers/swords. All the food was great, the only exception was that my wife fund some of her meat choices a bit tough (I think it was because the restaurant only had a couple of tables seated while we were there and potentially some of the meat sat too long on the grill). The service was also very attentive, our waiting staff was Marissa and Julio, they both kept us entertained throughout our meal. Julio even showed us a brief video, on his phone, of the "pineapple dance" while explaining its significance. Now, for about the only flaw which we see wit the resort, and many might disagree with us on this. We usually prefer to stay at slightly better resorts (4.5-5* and better), and of the reasons for this is that we like a certain atmosphere (and perhaps sophistication) in our choices of hotels. During the day, when everyone is out lying on the beach or by the pool, doing water related activities and visiting local sights or doing excursions it is understandable the everyone will be dressed down, appropriate for the activity. But at dinner, especially at a “diamond class” resort such as this, not having a dinner dress code (long pants and closed-toe shoes for men, and evening attire for women … but this isn’t usually an issue as most women dress-up all the time anyway), just does not make sense. I think nothing of packing along several pair of trousers (I have both shirts and pants made of linen for warm climate travels), and wearing these for dinner as I think that this maintains the upscale atmosphere which many resort restaurant try so hard to achieve. It’s not easy for resorts to operate a “classy” Asian/French/Italian restaurant in the Caribbean, so we as dinners should do our part to help them in at least maintaining the ambiance which they try so hard to accomplish. I am sorry, but few things ruin my dinner more then a man sitting one table away from me, wearing a tank top shirt, shorts made of cut-off track pants and flip-flops. Or a woman sitting down for dinner in a wet bathing suit, wearing nothing more then a soaked through white cover-up. We actually spoke to our reps at “The Royal” about this, and they said that they do not have a dinner dress code policy. Too bad, as we weren’t the only guests that noticed this flaw in this resort. Overall, the resort provided with a wonderful week … it is clean, room are spacious and well equipped, the hotel is large enough to have many choices and surprises (like the roof-top tennis court!) yet small enough that you can easily walk anywhere at any time, staff is friendly, food is great and drinks are cold and delicious. We give it 4.75/5* (We flew with Sunwing … upgraded to Club class … had a private transfer to and from the resort … and had a swim-up suite. All were well worth the money spent.)

Beautiful resort and excellent location, especially if you want to explore Playa del Carmen. Nice beach but quite a lot of weeds washed up with the windy conditions. Food was excellent, rooms were clean and staff were friendly. Only complaint would be the construction near our room that went on even at night. It was not easy but with much persistence we did eventually get moved to a quieter part of the hotel.

Everything about The Royal at Playa Del Carmen is absolutely awesome. We enjoyed the food, the facilities, the people are so kind and helpful. We will definitely put this resort on our list of places to return to.

Had a great time at the Royal. This is our 3rd visit and we love it more every time we go. The food, service & cleanliness of this resort is amazing. We love walking the beach & the location and access to Fifth Avenue. We don't like big resorts, so the Royal is perfect. Can't wait to go back!!

A repeat traveller to this resort we are never disappointed. The rooms are beautiful with a surprise waiting every night plus 24 hr. room service. The grounds are stunning and the pools are extremely spacious. Excellent variety of delicious meals at all restaurants. Lots of activities and entertainment. Transportation to and from airport is a breeze. The Gym and Spa are also high quality. It is a great place to enjoy a relaxing adult only holiday and a bonus with a market and also high end shopping right outside the door.

Staff and service was fantastic. Clean grounds and rooms. Decent food and drinks always available. There is drinks in your room and free room service. Several restaurants and most of the places don't need reservations. Snacks always available at the snack bar. Beach is public so gets quite busy and poor snorkeling. There is always chairs available on the beach. Direct access to shopping off resort. Felt very safe walking around. Pool is beautiful but seats are all saved by 9am. They do go through in the afternoon and take towels off chairs that are not in use. By about 3pm the sun goes behind the buildings due to the shape of the resort (not much beachfront) so if you want sun choose chairs early. This is not the resort to relax and have quiet. It gets quite rowdy around the pool. Good place to go with the a group of friends and if you want to drink. The shows at night are pretty good. The coffee shop has the best lattes and other drinks. Worth the daily visit.

We booked 8 days at The Royal Playa Del Carmen. The reviews raving about the facility were well warranted! Lovely pool, clean, exemplary staff, lovely beach and the restaurants were way beyond our expectations. Great location, nearby excursions.

Transfer longer than expected - arrived at airport at 945am, finally got to hotel at 130pm. Check in - quick and easy. One of the two rooms we booked wa ready. The other couple had to wait. Cool cloth and drink. Very nice. Room - beautiful. Large and kept very clean. Our rooms were fight next to each other as we requested. King beds as we requested. We had 811 and 812. Quiet rooms near quiet pool and coffee house. Amenities okay. Shampoo and body wash kinda cheap. But they have bug spray and hand sanitizer. Kinda nice. Blow dryer not too bad. Mini bar stocked daily. We had turn down service only a few nights we were here. I think they come early (5pm ish) when we were getting ready for supper and had the do not disturb sign hung. That or they don't do it every night as we were out of the room each night from about 6 to at least 10. Didn't use room service. Bed hard and a little creaky but okay. Bathroom spacious with two sinks. Water in shower changed temperature on its own. Not a deal breaker. Grounds. Beautiful. Beach - This surprised me. I was expecting a more beautiful beach. The beach is very narrow and the hotel chairs are lined up so thick and tight that we were literally sitting infront of passerbys. Very rocky directly in front of hotel. Better to left of hotel. Walking along the beach was okay. A few times in each direction we had to maneuver around and over things. The port for the water shuttle to/ from Cozumel for cruise passengers is just to the right on the beach. Usightly and horns are noisy but not too big a deal. More shade coverage available here but be prepared to wake up early to reserve a talapa. Service on the beach is excellent. We tipped $1 each time we were brought a drink. Food - very good. Spice - very good for buffet; we tipped $2 here for breakfast and lunch El Mediterranean - very good Rincon Mexican - just okay Asiano - very good Roast coffee house - very good (actually all coffee across resort is excellent) Maria Marie - excellent food and service (by Marco) Pescatore (at across resort). Just okay. Server was missing a personality and his English was quite limited. My husband said the lasagna was excellent, though. We tipped $5 to $10 for dinner, $5 if service was good, $10 if it was exceptional (like Marco in Maria Marie) Dress code in Maria Marie mentioned no shorts and no sandals but we saw people in both shorts and sandals. Drinks - a bit watered down but tasty. I asked for grey goose and lemonade a few times and it was 99% lemonade. The other drinks i had were mostly mix too. That's to be expected though. I saw many many people enjoying themselves (drunk) so obviously if you drink enough, there is enough alcohol to eventually feel it. House wine (the only wine included) was mediocre at best. Nothing we would consider drinking at home. No reservations needed except at Pescatore and Maria Marie. Chefs Plate is extra $80 unless you have a suite so we skipped it. Lobster dinner they sometimes push is also extra $40. We skipped that too. Skipped Spa - too expensive Skipped gym - preferred to run and walk along beach Service - Very good. Time share - managed to avoid this discussion completely. 5th avenue - very nice to explore. Walked along here every night and did some people watching, window shopping and some souvenirs shopping. Excursions - Cozumel for day on our own. Paid $300 pesos pp for return trip with ultramar at port. Also rent jeep with Rent Adora (Sergio - charming and friendly) before we boarded the ferry. Rental jeep $67 USD all in. The jeep was pathetic. Not even worth $100 and the hard sell on the Cozumel side to buy more insurance was wrong. I would not recommend this company becasue of the jeep state and the employees at the Cozumel office. Cozumel - just okay. More of the same souvenir shopping. Some nice beaches and interesting places to shop along the south coast. Nothing to write home about. I would skip it to be honest. Lobby bar and entertainment - a nice place to sit at the end of the day and have a drink enjoy the entertainment. Not too busy. Pool - busy and loud. No seats available by 7am. No shade at all. Why this resort doesn't spend the money and buy 30 quality umbrellas is Unfathable. Quiet pool - nice but no breeze at all during day. Chairs all taken very early too. Those bartenders very friendly and entertaining for a drink late afternoon.

The rooms were amazing , grounds were very well kept with very friendly staff . The food was great as well. The only complaint I would have is the pool chairs need to be regulated . people putting towels,books etc. on chairs and not being used all day. With people looking for chairs all day .

Just got back from a week at the Royal Playa del Carmen. I have stayed many properties across Mexico and this would certainly rank among the top. Location of the resort is unbeatable. You are right in the middle of the action and can easily walk to restauruants and shopping. The food at the resort was very good, many optiond for both buffet and A La Carte. They also have a really nice coffee shop that I would put up against Starkucks any day. We had breakfast and lunch almost everyday at Pelicanos on the water. The food was great and the staff were amazing. Lucas, Eteno, Mance and Geronimo took extra good care of us. Overall the service at the resport was top notch and I would not hesitate to return.

Lovely resort, beautifully groomed, seems liked its own oasis but then just outside lots of opportunity for adventure in Playa del Carmen. Food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Rooms big and comfortable. Lots of chairs available around pool and beach but I found the main pool busy. The beach was beautiful but the ocean was rough when I was there (March) so swimming/water sports were limited.

Terrific resort. Can't say enough about the service and excellent food. As foodies, we were astonished to find that most of our dinners, quality and taste and creativity-wise, were what we would expect at a top notch restaurant at home. This we the best food I've ever had at a 5 star resort and I've been to many. And the staff there were all amazing. Obviously the hotel does a great job of recruiting and training excellent people. The hotel itself is upscale and nice. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. The proportion of hotel to property was higher than I'd prefer (I like to see more open space and lush gardens) but given it's location on the edge of Playa Del Carmen, I guess real estate is at a real premium. The beach is nice albeit busier than at hotels away from town. Getting a lounge chair at the beach was never a problem but the pool was another story. Luckily we like hanging at the beach. Overall I would highly recommend The Royal and look forward to coming back.

First, trip central was incredibly easy to book with and there was a real person who replied to emails with minor questions we had before and after booking. The resort was amazing in the perfect location for beach, shops and restaurants and close to various outstrips. We would definitely recommended this resort and plan on booking with trip central again for our future vacations!

I would definitly come back. This was my first time at an all inclusive resort so I dont have much to compare to but i found that the staff were very friendly and helpful. Resort was spotless and the food was great.

It is a great resort for adults only. The ground is well-kept and the workers work diligently to keep the beach clean. The permanent cabanas and personal drink services on the beach are some of the good features. The room is spacious even it is only a basic Junior suit with Jacuzzi and balcony. The choices of restaurants and food are very good. I would say good services all around.

This was our 6th visit to this resort. We have travelled to many all inclusive resorts in several Caribbean islands and while we have enjoyed them all this is the only one we have come back to repeatedly. The rooms are beautiful with double jacuzzi tubs in even the base rooms. The location and service is what draws us back. Beach access and front entrance is a block from 5th avenue. Food is great. I don't know of any staff that weren't happy. The same staff the were at the concierge desk and the main Buffett restaurant that we met three years ago so staff must be treated well.

Four winter weary Canadians headed to the Royal for a much needed break. The couple we went with had been to the Royal before and recommended we go there for R and R. Turned out to be a great recommendation. From the cold towel and champagne when we arrived, the quick hassle free check in and excellent staff, we were in our room and into holiday mode within a very short time of arriving. The room was large and well appointed. The grounds were kept in great shape and it was a pleasure walking around the resort and getting oriented. The food was very good with Maria Marie getting the nod as favorite. Although the chef's table was a close second. The chef's table has a set menu, so a couple of dishes that I normally would not have chosen pushed this restaurant to number two. The food was exceptional and if the menu contains some of your favorites, you will really enjoy this place. The room service was very quick and tasty and offered a nice alternative when we were feeling lazy and just enjoying the room and relaxing. The main pool was quiet active with lots going on. There was a quiet pool if you wanted to get away from it all. There was lots of activities to take advantage of and nightly entertainment. One of great things about the Royal is its proximity to Playa del Carmen. A wonderful and safe place to wander around. Great restaurants, bars and cafes. Great shopping where you can find local souvenirs. Must admit, I feel Playa del Carmen is losing a bit of its charm. The corporate world has discovered the town and it is losing some of its local feel. Seeing a huge Burger King in small town Mexico is a bit depressing as is some of the high end stores that seem to be taking over part of the strip. A little tip, if you are serious about shopping then go to Cancun. Prices are better and more variety. Bargains are getting harder to find in Playa, although the remaining local merchants can still be counted on for a fun game of how much will you pay. Overall had a great time. The staff were all helpful and professional. You could not ask for better service from anyone. From the cleaning staff to the waiters in the restaurants to the concierge, everyone seemed to take pride in their jobs and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Will definitely be heading back to the Royal in the near future.

The hotel was spotless, staff was amazing and friendly, beach was stunning and rooms were fantastic! The food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were happy especially Didier at the front desk!

This was a great spot for our honeymoon. The resort is the perfect size and within steps you are off and shopping. Food, drinks, service and staff are all amazing and so accommodating ! You do have to play the towel game so be prepared to wake up early to claim your spot !

Great service, great food clean. Able to walk outdoors into shopping area. Evening entertainment was amazing. Ten restaurants to choose from. Rooms were large and very clean. Staff available outside pool to provide drinks. Butler service every evening. Would return in a heart beat

The beach is amazing, service is excellent, food is also great but nothing much in vegetarian menu in couple restaurants. Shopping is expensive and not much. We found the excursion to Tulum... from the kiosque on the right side of the beach offered lots cheaper than in the resort !

Absolutely outstanding resort! The location within a few minutes to the main town, excellent food and service, beautiful beaches. Every detail was taken care of at the wedding we attended from the sax player before the ceremony to the fireworks after the bride and groom's first dance. It was stunning! The service was probably the best we have ever experienced in our travels. Many thanks to Ahmed and Montiel. I would highly recommend this resort!

Great adults only resort! We would highly recommend this resort, we travel twice a year, and our travel agent has wanted to come to this property for a very long time...now I can see why. It will be difficult to find another resort with the same quality! Very clean well kept property. Staff are friendly & very accomodating. Great location for Playa del Carmen. We always made reservation even though it is not required.(we just are use to making them) The food in all the restaurant are great! We will be back guaranteed! Our room was fantastic...lots of space and the view was so, so, but we are not there to stay in the room.

Absolutely no complaints. Perfect food, service,entertainment. Very clean rooms and grounds. Great location. Just steps from 5th avenue. Great beach. No problem finding chairs or towels. Can't wait to get back.

We stayed here on our honeymoon. Our first 5 star and first time in Mexico. We were treated with all the amenities and the service and food was excellent. can't wait to go back and enjoy the beaches, food, and staff

The hotel staff is simply a 10/10. The hotel itself is very clean and the location to the city is perfect. The room we could not have asked for anything better.The food was good the bar staff were great, including the beach and pool service. The beach itself is very small as the entrance due to rocks crams a lot of tourists into the same area. The main issue lies with the construction taking place next door to the hotel which could be heard in all rooms backing onto the construction and even on the beach. This was a disappointment

Example: What did you think about  this hotel? (grounds, public areas, rooms, dining, features, etc.) The hotel was perfect, food, service, sitting area, bars and check in was perfect. The room is above perfect the best room i have every been, lots of room and clean.

This hotel is beyond beautiful, and the rooms are amazing. Staf went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Restaurants second to none, beach was beautiful, and pools excellent too. Be sure to visit the bar at the pool and play the crazy games too.
