About Italy Vacations

From the sun-drenched Amalfi Coast to the timeless ruins of Rome, from the gondola-laced canals of Venice to the rolling vineyards of Tuscany, Italy is not merely a place you visit, it’s a place you fall in love with, again and again. Whether you're a first-time visitor dreaming of the Colosseum, a couple seeking a romantic Tuscan retreat, or a foodie eager to taste an authentic Margherita pizza in Naples, we have an Italy package that suits you.

Our Italy packages are designed for independent travelers who want the value and convenience of a curated package but prefer to explore at their own pace. These packages typically include flights, hotels, and transfers. Many are multi-city itineraries, so they also include intercity transportation. Some even include pre-arranged sightseeing components to help you hit the ground running.

Departure airports

Most of our Italy packages are built around departures from Toronto and Montreal, where nonstop or near-nonstop flights are readily available. Other Canadian gateways may be available with connecting flights. If Toronto or Montreal departures don't work for you, please give us a call. Our agents can price it even if it's not shown on our website.

Popular itineraries

With so much to discover in Italy, we recommend two and three-centre trips. Very few people visit Italy and wish they'd stayed in just one city.

Rome & Amalfi Coast / Sorrento: The classic pairing of city and coast. Rome for history and energy, Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast for scenery, seafood, and slowing right down.

Rome & Florence: Two cities that feel completely different despite being only about 90 minutes apart by train. Great for art lovers and food lovers in equal measure.

Rome, Florence & Venice: The grand trifecta. A lot to cover, but very doable with Italy's excellent rail connections. This is the trip that turns people into Italy regulars.

Venice & Northern Italy: A wonderful option if you want to experience fewer crowds than the Rome circuit combined with the beauty of Lake Como, Verona, the Dolomites, Milan.

Sicily: Increasingly popular and for good reason. It's a different Italy entirely: Greek ruins, Arab-Norman architecture, extraordinary food, and fewer tourists than the mainland. Best combined with a fly-and-drive or a small group tour.

Tuscany: A natural choice for those who want a slower pace, a rural base, with day trips to Florence and Siena, rather than a city-hopping itinerary.

Where to stay

Italy has a wide range of accommodation styles, and choosing the right base will shape your entire experience.

Rome: Central neighbourhoods like the Historic Centre (Campo de' Fiori, Navona) and Trastevere are great for walking everywhere. The Vatican/Prati area is excellent if St. Peter's and the museums are a priority. Options around Termini tend to offer better value.

Florence: Staying within the historic centre means nearly everything is walkable. It's a compact city and being central matters more here than almost anywhere else in Italy.

Venice: If you are staying on the island, the Cannaregio and Dorsoduro neighbourhoods offer a slightly more local feel and tend to be better value than San Marco, which is stunning but sits right in the thick of the tourist crowds. The mainland town of Mestre is just a 10-minute train ride across the lagoon, and has a solid selection of comfortable, well-priced hotels around the main Mestre train station area. You get easy access to Venice without paying island prices, and for travelers who are combining Venice with other Italian cities, it can be a more convenient base to arrive and depart from.

Sorrento: A fantastic base for the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, and even a day trip to Capri. It's easier to navigate than staying on the Amalfi Coast itself.

The Amalfi Coast: While the coast is stunning, its more about sightseeing than swimming. If beach time is high on your list, Sicily's coast and the areas around Sorrento are better suited.

Italian weather

Italy is a long, narrow country, so weather varies significantly by region and season. A few honest things worth knowing before you book:

Rome and Central Italy sit around 7-10°C in January but temperatures can reach 30°C or more in July and August. Summer in Rome is hot, busy, and in peak August, notably emptier of locals (who tend to escape the city) but packed with tourists.

Northern Italy (Venice, Florence, Milan) can be cold and damp in winter. Venice gets acqua alta (seasonal flooding) most commonly from October through January, which is worth knowing before you go.

The Amalfi Coast and Southern Italy are best from May through October. Shoulder season, meaning May/early June and September/October, is the sweet spot: warm, less crowded, and often better value.

Sicily has a longer warm season than the mainland and is a solid choice for those wanting Mediterranean warmth and sunshine outside of peak summer.

If warm-water swimming is the main goal, late July through September in Sicily or along the southern coast is your best bet. A spring trip to Rome and Tuscany, on the other hand, is hard to beat for comfortable temperatures and stunning scenery without the summer crowds.

Not sure which itinerary is right for you?

That's exactly what we're here for. Our agents have been to Italy, many of them multiple times and to different regions. Whether you're planning a romantic first trip, a family adventure, a food-and-wine-focused escape, or a deep dive into ancient history, we'll help you find the package that fits what you're after. Give us a call at 1-800-665-4981 and let's figure it out together.
