the food was excellent, amazing I would say, not a huge variety of drinks but the best so far (way better than mexico or cuba) the way the resort was designed was excellent, the beach too...too bad it was invaded by locals on the weekend who were impolite, drunk, left a lot of garbage behind and no shows/entertainment for us..only for locals... and the most of it...even though was supposed to be all inclusive, IT WASN'T ALL INCLUSIVE they had Corona on the fridge, Johnny walker... when we asked for it they said no...(they sold them to the invasive locals though:))) People working there are not looking or expecting tips and are friendly. MOST OF THE ROOM SMELL, even though they are nice.

Amazing and safe exploration of Pico Bonito national park with lots to experience and learn. Well informed staff, restaurant and bar on site. Spa and yoga pavilion in spectacular natural setting.

Nice beach, food good, bar needs improvement. Service in dining room very poor. Both the red and white wine served in dining room so poor quality, we could not drink it, very acidic. The beautiful mountains in the background, contributed to rain everyday.

THIS IS A LOVELY RESORT WITH VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL STAFF. WE LOVED OUR VILLA, c11 WITH ITS SPACIOUS LIVING,DINING/ KITCHEN/LAUNDRY FACILITIES AND TWO LARGE BEDROOMS. THE STAFF WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY TO SEE WE WERE COMFORTABLE AND PLEASED WITH OUR VISIT. IT WAS TROPICALLY DECORATED WITH RATTAN FURNITURE WITH COMFY CUSHIONS. WE HAD A COVERED PORCH WHERE WE SAT AND WATCHED THE RAIN AND THE HUMMING BIRDS AT THE FEEDER WE HAD THOUGHT TO BRING. WAS THE RAINY SEASON AND WE HAD SOME DAILY SUN ON MOST DAYS BUT ONLY TWO FULL DAYS OF SUN IN 11 DAYS. THE BEAUTY OF THE RESORT, DECENT FOOD, AND GREAT STAFF MADE UP FOR THE WEATHER. THE BAR, THE ONLY RESORT DISAPPOINTMENT, SERVES ONLY THE MOST BASIC DRINKS AND PREMIXED PINA COLADAS. tHE GROUNDS ARE EXQUISITE WITH ALL SORTS OF TROPICAL FLOWERS AND GARDENS, EVEN FOWERS IN EMPTY FIELDS. SURROUNDING THE AREA..

I Loved this resort largely because of the people who run it so efficiently and organized. We arrived and we're greeted with smiles and a cold drink. Smooth transition to our room which was everything I requested. Clean, big, beautiful and amazing view. Free safe in the room, free WIFI throughout fantastic. Missing in the room is a minibar and coffee maker. Pools, nice and clean the addition of a jacuzzi would be nice. Loved the beach and beautiful grounds. Food was the best I've had at any resort. They need to work on drink selection at the bar. The addition of a blender at all times not just when the locals come in is a must. An espresso machine for specialty coffee is a must. Only one beer offered Salva Vida, there should be more choices.The bar was really lacking and needs improvement. I want to add that the Nexus rep was amazing, so informative, available and welcoming.

Rooms are spacious and clean. Beds were comfortable and linens crispy and clean. Grounds we're ok, maybe needs little bit more work. Food was good and although there was no too much choice everything tasted good. Chairs and lounges around pool are slightly tired looking. All in all it is a good value for the money. Staff is frienly but English is not much spoken, but they realy tryed to explain even though it involved hand gestures.

The cabins, grounds, lodge, pool, spa and yoga facilities are beautiful. Surrounded by topical plants and trees, rivers and sounds of nature. Even more importantly, the staff are exceptional. Guides can take you on numerous hikes. Take your hiking shoes and a raincoat; it is a mountain rainforest area. The food is incredible. There is so much to see, do and learn. You can hike into the surrounding areas and swim in several mountain river pools, relax on the veranda and watch birds, take a dip in the pool when you get warm, enjoy time at the spa on site, take photographs or use binoculars. Day trips to Cayo Cochinos, La Ceiba, botanical gardens are easy to organize. I highly recommend visiting the Lodge at Pico Bonito

Nice resort located seconds away from the beach. Excellent service and good choice of alcoholic drinks. The beach is nice. Me and my friend both really enjoyed the food, good selection and variety every day. The rooms were clean.

Resort was very quite, not too many tourists. Room was nice and clean, polite staff, though some understood no English. Found private beaches beautiful, though public beach, had garbage piled throughout.

I chose his resort to be my secure base for exploring the area on my first time visit to Honduras while traveling solo. The hotel is conveniently located close to all the day trips and excursions offered in the area except for Ruins of Copan. The resort and the area felt safe. There is securiy personnel on site, I requested a safe in the room and got it; the door and balcony had secure locks. I had no issues walking on the beach for an hour each way although i always made a point to be back to the resourt before dark. It seems that safety of guests is a high priority for the hotel management. I took five excursions and I loved my experience. The resort is reasonably close to hiking trips at Pico Bonito Natural park, River rafting, Cacao lagoon, canope (zip-line) and hot springs, and Cayo Cochinos snorkeling trip. Average price of the tours is 75 USD per person, but many require minimum number of participants which can be tricky in low season especially if you travel solo. Two of the trips I organized myself, as I can speak Spanish, and I just used the transportation provided by the hotel which added extra level of comfort and security to my adventures. The excursion personnel at the hotel were helpful and the hotel drivers reliable. With a price of CAD $1,090 all inclusive (plus the excursions) that i got as a last minute deal I hardly could wish for anything to be better. My 'supersaver' room had an ocean view, hammoc on the balcony, TV with about 80 channels - most in Spanish though, air conditioning, comfortable bed, and plenty of hot water. Wifi was spotty and limited during the dinner high-demand time but Ok at other times. The food was OK although no luxury and the coffee in the buffet was decent for my high standard. Overall, for me the choice of the hotel worked perfectly fine for the mix of security, civilization, comfort, and proximity to nature and availability of activities nearby. However, if the main thing you want during yor vacations is to stay on a nice beach and have some luxury or if you are a 'foody' this place may not be your best choice, especially if you have to pay much higher price than I did. I would recommend this resort to active travelers who want to try a new destination without spending a fortune and who don't get disappointed by the beach that is neither idyllic blue water nor white sand. Overall, I loved my trip and hope you will enjoy yours too!

Was there Mar 7-14/16. Resort is very clean. 10 yrs old. Very few people there when we arrived..maybe 10 for the first 3 days. Filled up to 300 by Sat. and around 40 people by Sunday evening. Food was good. Service was great. We went off the resort for snorkeling. It was ok but not many fish considering this is the 2nd largest reef in world. I wouldn't do that again. We found the excursions offered were expensive and all is US dollars which adds to the cost. I did take some Honduran currency with me but everyone wanted US dollars so used the liperia at the airport. The beach has a security guard with a semi automatic rifle on guard and the entrance is secured. We walked into Tela which was a 10 min walk. Town was what you would expect in a third world country. Really nothing to purchase that captured our attention. No gift items that we saw either in town or at the resort. Take bug spray and sunscreen. Bus ride from airport to resort approx. 90 mins. I would go back again. He had a wood cabin 1403..we thought we would have a washer and dryer as others commented on this. We did not have a washer or dryer in our cabin. Also cabins show kitchen and dining area...not the wood cabin that we were in. We had 2 queen beds with a wall mounted tv, balcony with 2 comfy chairs and table, bathroom with large shower, and a galley kitchen with a bar fridge, coffee maker and counter area. Our safety deposit box was broken but we forgot to mention it to the front desk. Not sure if the people before us mentioned it to the front desk or not. Strangely there are no dressers for clothes. The galley kitchen has a clothes rod and some shelves. We usually live out of our suitcases but this may bother other people. My husband does speak some Spanish and this was helpful although most people at the resort did speak some English. If you are looking for a vacation with total down time this is the place to go. We each read 1.5 books. It is the kind of get away we were looking for. If you want action and excitement would should consider somewhere else. Voltage is the same as ours so no need for travel converters. Plugs were the same as ours as well.

Been to many resorts but nothing quite compared to La Ensenada, at least in it's own way. Most of the time less than 30 guest so the service was excellent. Staff couldn't be nicer and willing to help anyway they could. Too many outstanding to mention by name but I'm sure they know who they are (Janga, Bye Bye). We have a few incriminating pictures to show the lawyers, thank you entertainment staff. The grounds were lush and very clean. We lucked out with a lake view room and exceptional view, away from any possible noise except the frogs that sang every night, fireflies and pigeons greeting us every morning. Peacocks and guinea fowl roamed around at free will. Breakfast was good but much the same everyday but lunches and dinners changed daily. Although, there wasn't an a la cart restaurant we got to enjoy one any way as if there are less than 20 guest, which we had a few days, it was ordering off the menu. Even the buffet changed almost everyday so no complaints from us. Town (Tela) was in walking distance and the locals also couldn't be nicer by either showing or explaining, helping in anything we asked. Saw area fish with a local fisherman, tried our hand fishing with them from the pier. Chicken wings are a favorite with us anywhere so went to Tela and tried Winger's for lunch. I will agree with other reviews to make sure you bring your bug spray... Now as we look at snow falling here, we wish we were back at La Ensenada. The room was udge. The food was excellent but not a lot. The personnel was so gentil. It's a place to go. I wanna go again. The beach and ocean was excellent and clean. The organization of Sunwing was excellent with Christopher, agent.

Nice resort and beach with great food. Don't be fooled by the misleading information by Sunwing and pay extra for a balcony room because they all have balconies. The rich locals come in on the weekends and take over the place.

If you want peace and quiet this is the place to go but beware locals are there on the weekend...entertainment was very rare...little english spoken by staff...no alcohol after 11pm or 5pm on Sunday It is law for a dry Sunday in Hondrus but resorts are exempt this one obviously does it to save money...food was good but a lot of chicken served...beach was beautiful! Tela is about one and a half hours from La Ceiba where In La Ceiba you can access a lot more to do...Day trips are over priced at the resort almost double.

The setting for this resort couldn't be more beautiful- in the background, mountains, palm trees and rural Honduras at its most picturesque, the resort itself set within a small, safe community fronted by a lovely beach with lots of room to sit, lots of beach chairs, and a shallow sandy, gradually sloping ocean floor with fun waves to play in. It is not crystal blue water, as the waves stir up the brown sand, so no snorkeling, but warm and so nice. The food is delicious, and there was plenty to be had, with the exception of Friday night, Saturday and Sunday until after lunch as there was a real influx of people and food was slow to be refilled, but it was replenished after a wait. The rooms were lovely- it seemed like they had recently been redone. The sound of the ocean from the rooms was really relaxing. Front desk, wait, bar and room staff were friendly and helpful, excursions were lots of fun and very informative. Drinks were good. I would suggest that people wear bugspray or avoid the beach in late afternoon due to the sandfleas- very itchy bites. Beach towels were not always available, but you can always bring your own from home if this is the kind of thing that would put a negative spin on a wonderful vacation. We had a thoroughly awesome time.

The rooms and buildings were fantastic. Large, rich feeling furniture, cast iron balcony furniture, updated TV, and very clean. The pools were always really clean looking as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was especially helpful to see/hear an English speaking representative in the lobby. The food was great! Would be nice if locals weren't able to come on to the resort - I'd feel safer and less annoyed by them trying to sell me things.
