Honduras is an undiscovered treasure. With Pacific and Caribbean coasts, tropical forests and Mayan treasures, Honduras has something for everyone. The largest city, San Pedro Sula, was laid out by Spanish settlers in the 1500’s and maintains a European charm. Traditionally referred to as “the valley of the birds” it is surrounded by mountains. In many respects San Pedro Sula is a modern city, but with most jobs related to coffee and bananas. Honduras has many well preserved Mayan sites. Copán, in particular, is one of the most important because of the vast number of hieroglyphic texts found on the large stone altars. The amount of inscribed material suggests that Copán was the home to an elite royal culture in the ancient Mayan kingdom. Offshore, the Bay Islands (Roatan) are surrounded by the world's second largest coral reef and are widely known for spectacular diving and snorkeling. The port city of La Ceiba is known for its nightlife, restaurants, bars, and shopping scene. Honduras vacations will take you to an exotic location full of spectacular natural beauty and warm temperatures.
