Portugal is a great “more than a week Europe” destination because it’s easy to combine cities and coast without needing a full escorted tour. Our Portugal packages are designed for independent travellers: you get the value and convenience of a curated package (typically flights + hotels + transfers, and a checked bag), but you explore on your own schedule. Many multi-city packages also include intercity transportation (often rail) and may include a few pre-arranged sightseeing components.
Departure airports: most package flight options are built around departures from Toronto and Montreal when nonstop service is available; other selected Canadian gateways are priced using connecting flights. If you don’t see your connecting city for a base package from Toronto or Montreal, please call us as we can price it even though it is not on our website.
Popular itineraries
Most visitors want more than just Lisbon, so two-centre trips are common, including Lisbon + Algarve (culture + beaches) and Lisbon + Porto (two cities with very different vibes). You’ll also see “north-to-south” style itineraries that help you cover more of the country in one trip.
Where to stay (examples)
As we expand our location labels beyond “Lisbon/Porto/Algarve,” you’ll see packages grouped by areas such as:
- Lisbon area: Baixa/Chiado (walkable core), Alfama (historic), Avenida (classic hotels), Belém (waterfront), and Cascais (coastal day-trip / beach base)
- Porto area: Ribeira/Baixa (central), Cedofeita (neighbourhood feel), Foz (coastal)
- Algarve: Lagos (dramatic cliffs), Albufeira/Vilamoura (resort feel), Tavira (quieter east)
Weather and the “Portugal beach” reality check
Portugal is generally sunny, but it’s an Atlantic destination. In Lisbon, average highs are roughly 15–16°C in winter and 26–28°C in summer.
Ocean temperatures are cooler than the Caribbean:
- Lisbon coast: about 15°C in late winter up to about 20–20.5°C in late summer
- Porto (north): about 14°C in late winter up to about 19°C in August
- Algarve (south): warmest around 21°C in August
If “warm water swimming” is the main goal, the Algarve is best in late July to September. Winter “snowbird” trips are great for sunshine and sightseeing, but the ocean is typically brisk.
