The grounds boasted wonderfully green borders, trees, shrubs and flowering plants, even in February, and the groundskeepees kept our surroundings immaculate. The architecture was beautiful and the grounds were well planned and lovely to stroll, and the pool was very large and accommodating. We walked the beaches and soon discovered that this Iberostar had the most beautiful sand along this stretch of the penninsula; we called velvet as it was so smooth and silky. And, there was NO loud blaring music on the beach, which was such such a blessing. We could just enjoy the sound of the waves, soak up the sun, read....and just relax! And the staff were absolutely fabulous!! Friendly, helpful and gracious, which was utterly amazing considering that the Feb 2026 fuel embargo has ruined their immediate future for tourism. They were stalwart and smiling despite the threat. We had a lovely holiday at the Iberostar Prigin Playa Alameda and heartily recommend it to those who would like to relax and enjoy their all inclusive beach vacation in Cuba.

I love this resort , it’s my fourth stay here. Only one complaint was the food was the same every day All the staff were very friendly and helpful I loved they put us in a ground floor room because of mobility issues. Because this resort is on the smaller size it is so easy to get around to the pool, beach, bars, and restaurants

The Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda is a nice but somewhat dated resort. Our first room near the beach was clean, but smelled of mildew. The front desk staff immediately moved us to another building and our new room was comfortable and clean. There was plenty of hot water and AC worked well. Food at the resort was a little bland but good. Choices were somewhat limited, but always included a couple of proteins (pork, chicken, fish), omelettes, cooked and fresh vegetables, fruit, breads, and desserts. The 24 hour cafe offered ham and cheese sandwiches and hotdogs. Staff were friendly and warm. The beach was lovely, with plenty of beach chairs and shade for everyone. We tried the Cuban and Italian restaurants on site. Food was okay, but not much different than what was offered in the main restaurant. Although Cuba is experiencing a lot of difficulties at the moment, there were no issues with the resort's supply of electricity, water, and food. We enjoyed our stay at Alameda and were aware of what to expect at a Cuban resort. This resort met our expectations.

This was my second trip to Cuba and this experience was better than my last. The beach was great, rocky to the right, beautiful sand to the left. Rooms were dated, but clean. Food was as expected, fairly repetitive, however Christmas day dinner was fantastic and they truly out did themselves for New Year eve dinner! The staff here truly made you feel like their family! The beach and the people here make it worth the time here. Typical to Cuba, beach towels were limited, however we tipped well to our room cleaner and she was sure to provide extras. We brought extra toilet paper to have for the public bathrooms (airport and on the resort) Often they ran out. But again the room was stocked daily. The beds in the room were older, and as a person with back issues, was sore by the end of the week. If you are looking for a cheaper get away and set your expectations accordingly, I would recommend this hotel.

The hotel was very nice but it does need some talc. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our rooms were cleaned every day. The food was not very warm and not too good. But I realize Cuba has a problem with getting food and drinks. They only had Fanta and coke for non alcoholic drinks. If I was to go there again I would know now what to take for myself.

It is our second time in Iberostar Alameda resort. We liked it from our first stay: very nice hotel inspired by Spanish colonial design, an amazing beach, great beach BBQs, night disco dances, it is a cozy and ideal place for a couples retreat. In our second visit, four years later, we found a nice improvement such as easier approaches to the beach, renovated rooms and enlarged beach space. What can be improved is a quality and variety of food. We recommend to visit the local cave Cueva Ambrosio which can be an alternative to the lengthy excursion in a cool no-beach and windy day as it happened to us. The hotel's stuff was very friendly. Highly recommend this hotel!

So first off. The picture shown here does not exist. There is no island in the pool. That is a diff resort. Went from Oct 6 to 13. No one there. we were only people in building 13. The place is very pretty. The beach is divine and the pool great. Its not a ton of walking to get to places like lobby, restaurant or beach. But here are the negatives for me. The room was very disappointing. Very dated. No mini bar, no coffee maker, TV didnt work until reported 3 times, no water bottle in room for 3 days, mo where to unpack clothes so lived in suitcase for a week. Was a nuisance to get dressed and walk to the bar to get coffee to bring back to room. The drinks are not good. The pop was always flat and no diet coke. Only had a few coctails but seemed like made with koolaide. They were awful. No maragritas. Fortunately I brought my own orange juice juice boxes and 6 pack diet coke. I wanted cold fizzy coke in my rum and coke and when bought a can was $4USD each. Sheets not changed all week which was OK. Always carry pack kleenex as none of the bathrooms had toilet paper except the room. The food was not good. Same every day. Bland spaghetti with tasteless tomatoe sauce. Some canned pea salads. Just basic bottom line stuff. Gave up on omelets for breakfast . Usually had no cheese. Only fillings were corn, vegetables of some sort, icky ham and white tasteless cheese. We stuck to fried eggs and toast. Had mashed potatoes which were good and lots sweet potatoe but found lots stuff reheated next day so was stale. So don't expect a nice buffet like in mexico or Dominican because its not happening. Could only get in to Caribbean restaurant on last night even tho place empty. Only 1 other couple there. Food was shredded beef with rice. Was ok. At least better than buffet but didnt seem Caribbean. Staff is lovely. I gave a way 2 suitcases of food and gifts so got great service. They prefer American to Cdn. dollars. Bring bug repellent. Bad mosquitos at night. Very little entertainmment. Some music outside lobby couple times. Lots music during day. No bar on beach or beach waiter service. You have to go up the walkway to a bar in that area. Theres a bar by the pool but as said the drinks not great. There were catamarans to go out on but not in service for like 4 days. We both got sick guts and lived on immodium and pepto bismal. On the whole the place looks great but I prefer a nicer room with amenities and good food and drinks so wont be returning. We met several people who were repeat customers who said they would not return as gone downhill. Quality. A friend recommended this place as shes been there 10 times but obviously she has not experienced higher quality resorts and went with 10 people so built in party. Depends what your looking for. Dont look for good food. Not happening. A bottle of water is $4USD. Also had trouble with a taxi driver.We wanted pizza cause so sick of food and told him where we wanted to go but he took us to a friends restaurant in middle nowhere and ended up costing us $25USD for small pizza with 1 topping. We have him heck and told him we asked him to take us to a diff place but he said this better. Cost us triple plus cab ride. So angry about that. Cab was ordered by front desk of hotel.Hotel is a long way from airport. About 45 minutes to an hour. Best part of this place is the beach. I wont be returning here tho. Rooms are musty altho have a/c.

The resort was a bit in need of some maintenance/updating. It seems the photos of the resort and its condition haven't been updated in a bit. The resort is nicer in photos and not many people when the 3 of us visited however, the staff were very very friendly and fun to be around, the food was better than what I was expecting based on the research I did and what people had to say on forums about resort food in Cuba. Obviously outside resorts the food is better, but the resort food wasn't bad and there were some very tasty dishes actually. The beach and pool are beautiful.

Resort itself was great. Good service rooms were clean à la carte restaurants were a little tough to get in, but we managed. The only issue I ran into was lack of toilet paper, which I’ve never run into my previous four times to Cuba

I've been to Playa Alameda many times. The staff as usual are wonderful. Unfortunately, through no fault of their own, the economy in the aftermath of COVID and the relentless suffocation from America has left them with very little to work with with. It is still labelled a 4.5 star but in all honesty, it runs like a 3.5 star: the bedding was never changed, the towels changed periodically, the room filled with mosquitoes, the toilet paper frequently missing, no sugar sometimes, no butter sometimes, broken coffee machine sometimes, etc., etc. A person who had never been to this resort probably wouldn't return. Those loyal to the resort and people like myself might also think twice. It's better to label it 3.5 so that people know what to expect and they can accommodate.

The hotel need ALOT of works The foods at the buffet are limited selection but overall foods at alarcate restaurants are good. If I ever come back to this place only because of the staffs, nothing else

Went with my daughter for one week. Hotel and grounds very kept. Rooms a little dated but kept very clean. People and staff were excellent. For the food well I was pleasantly surprised. The choice a little limited but the taste were great. Even for a picky eater there was something. The beach were good but the ocean was a little rough. Still went in every day. All in all happy with our stay.

We had heard that there might be food shortages. Certainly didn’t happen at our resort. The food was great and there was plenty of it. The staff were incredibly friendly and couldn’t do enough to assist you in any way. The rooms were clean and very spacious. One could keep as busy or as lazy as one wanted. There were lots of various activities going on all day. The beach was right at the resort and there were always lots of sun cots available. We would definitely return to this resort. Incredible value for our money. On my return, I will bring more chocolate bars, small toys, personal supplies to leave with the incredible staff.

This is my second time to Varadero and first time at this resort. The staff were amazing, the food was good, the rooms were clean and beach was spectacular. If you are considering a trip to Cuba, I would highly recommend this resort.

Mostly was a fun resort with very nice people, although alot of the daily events that were posted on the TV in the lobby didn't happen, i felt like alot of the people in charge of doing those weren't really doing their job. And constantly finding cock roaches in my room wasn't pleasant. Food is hit or miss but I mostly enjoyed it, jus gotta find what u like though and kinda almost jus stick to it.

The rooms were OK little outdated. The grounds were pretty good. The food was better than I expected. The drinks were good. The staff was awesome but it’s Cuba ran out of toilet paper around the pool area a lot Had a little bit of trouble with hot water, but got it resolved overall I would go back.

The resort is poorly managed, shortages of basics, bad smell from the washrooms, room keys not working, rooms very outdated and quite non functional. We don’t go to Cuba for the food, but this time was the worst since we’ve been many times in 25 years. Despite the kindness of Cuban people, we will not return any time soon.

The grounds of this resort are beautiful, pool was great and all of the public areas were lovely. Our room certainly needs updating, the air conditioner was far too cold the first few days and couldn't be adjusted, maintenance came in and turned it off but then for the rest of out stay we didn't have any air conditioning and it became very hot in the room. The shower leaked and ran out into the room so we had to clean that up every day. There were holes in our sheets. The beds covered up the 220v outlets so we didn't find those until after I blew my hair dryer.

Clean and comfortable. Food was OK. Staff were excellent. Beautiful beach and lots of loungers. Loved the pool. Music was not too loud. I'm old LOL. Everything was in close proximity and would definitely go back

1st 3 days..it was very very cold in our room. Even Shut off the A/C. Still very cold. Maintenance came. Next 3 days we had no A/C. Temperature 34 Celsius. Holes in bedsheets. Whenever the shower was used, water leaked into the bedroom area. Grounds were lovely

The best thing about this resort is the staff. I did not like the layout . I did not like the bar being in a separate room. The lobby is not a gathering spot. No day time entertainment, no bingo ect...

Grounds are well kept and staff are great. The food (March 2024) was better than expected despite the shortages that all of the hotels were having. (ie. bread on some days only). Checkin was fast and efficient. Unlike neighboring hotels there is not a lot of drink service in the lounge area or beach. Not a problem though as there are two bars within 50 meters of the beach. Downsides. Room: total lack of hot water in the shower (the sink had hot water though). The beds were showing there age and I did not find them comfortable. They call a king room one with two utility-grade single beds pushed together. The room cleanliness was fine. The lobby is smaller than in other hotels and does not have a lot of seating for groups or for lounging and having a drink and seating was in good shape. Beach: Very deep and flat. The sand was not as fine or shell free as other areas. There were also rocky areas at waist level in some spots so water shoes are recommended. The hotel did suffer from the number of worn out and broken loungers. Some altercations with other guests over "parking" or reserving avaialble loungers ensued. Coffee and drinks were plentiful and bar service was good. There was also a very nice little cigar bar with bar service which I enjoyed. Overall, recommended.

The grounds and outdoor spaces are beautiful. I found the property lacking in entertainment. There was only 1 day that they had activities around the pool. The shows dont start until after 10pm and the disco was not always open. The rooms were cleaned everyday and i actually had to turn my hot water down it was so hot! I was in BLd 19. We went with another couple and our door hardly ever would lock, and they had to to go get keys changed several times a day. The other 3 people who were with me (my spouse/another couple) ended up deathly ill for 2 days not sure the exact cause (water/food/ice etc) and we missed an excursion. I did not notice any shortages there was always drinks/mix/coffee/eggs etc.. If you like the nightlife, games and activities I would not recommend this resort.

This hotel needs to be torn down. It’s beyond repair. Mouldy pillows, no toilet paper musty rooms. Overall in terrible shape. Surprisingly the food wasn’t bad. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else. The staff tried but appeared beaten down. Also not many people under 65. If your looking to meet interesting people and have fun this is not the place. .

The Iberostar Playa Alameda was a wonderful stay with extremely friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed the various activity options throughout the day and the nightly entertainment. We travelled in early January for a 10-day birthday trip and were surprised by a lovely complimentary bottle of champagne on the day of my birthday despite not informing the staff. We loved the theatre shows and the beach party in addition to the live music. The drinks were wonderful and the bar staff was great at creating exciting variations on classic drinks. The food was plentiful and we even enjoyed 3 different dinners at the various restaurants on site. The beach was beautiful and the private entrance right at the back of the resort made going back and forth quick and easy. We also enjoyed lounging by the pool and eating at the snack bar. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was lovely with good lighting and a magnifying mirror for those who love to do makeup. Having a WestJet rep on site to book excursions was very convenient as we were able to book our day trip to Havana and a Catamaran to Cayo Blanco with ease. The onsite bank was great for exchanging for Cuban pesos as needed and the frequent busses into Varadero made it easy to pop into town throughout the day. We deeply enjoyed our stay and would recommended the resort to anyone looking for an 18+ stay in Cuba!

The overall experience at this resort was ok with a few hiccups and inefficiencies as explain below : ( the restaurant associates, all the workers were amazingly friendly who provided great service though). 1. The internet service was horrible and they must do something about that to have repeat customers to this location 2. My wife only eats vege and fish but most of their vege dishes had bacon or pork bits in them that was not pleasant. They call talepia fish a seafood , That was a joke yet the location was so close to Atlantic Ocean . They did not have any shrimp dishes during our 4 days stay. They must keep appropriate seafood and condiments to go with fish dishes . We packed some spices but can’t just pack the whole kitchen with us! 3. The drinks look elegant but seemed really off and the taste was misleading ( only wine was close enough and some beer Bev), I used to work as a bartender and they couldn’t fool me with this. Although we heavily tipped the associates we were not too impressed. 4. They need to rotate the food choices / dishes at buffet, and not present the same items everyday. 5. Taking cold shower was not impressive . 6. At the beach they did not have any change room 7. Couldn’t try any processed meat dishes ( burger, hotdog, cold cut meat) due to all having mixed meant in them ( pork/beef), can you not have just one 100% beef item ? Positive feedback: As I have mentioned, each of their associates were amazingly pleasant and friendly. They tried hard to entertain their guests . Live internet meant, the person who gives dance lessons at the beach each day. The accompanied dancer senior Juniato was very nice and helpful. The room service was very good. Beds could have been more comfy . Tv service can be improved with more choices and not just local channels . The resort is well planned , we liked the ambiance it offered. My special request to management is . Please charge more for drinks , or put a limit as to how many drinks per day a guest can be offered, but please don’t bluff anyone with water down drinks ! Or any fake drinks not appreciated. Overall, the experience was good because of the resorts friendly associates abd good entertainments. We will only revisit or recommend this place to to anyone if the above improves. We will research deeper before returning to Cuba again.

I would give this resort 4 stars. I loved the common areas because of the Cuban design and deckor. The swimming pool was very cold. The ocean was a bit warmer but big waves with a red flag beach for many days. The room was nice but the safe wasn't even attached to the wall and moved around, lol. No stocked fridge with drinks. If you want a cola it will cost you $4.25 us. There is no orange juice nor oranges. No bananas ! All in all a good banging 7 day trip for the buck, especially out of Hamilton.

The resort is located in a beautiful area. The rooms are large and kept clean. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The room service was good but didn’t speak English. Would recommend this resort.

Hotel: This hotel/resort was ok, but Iberostar Corporate office needs to take notice of it. Definitely starting to show its age, shower drains need to be cleaned out throughout the resort as an example. Work needs to be done on the buildings to bring them more up to speed with what Iberostar is promoting their standards to what its hotels are at. Food: Visited at the end of October, so end of the low season. Some things were available in abundance, such as pork in a variety of styles, salads, cheese and vegetables. Hit and miss on other meats like chicken and beef. The only fresh fruits that were available were pineapple, guava, but lacked any other fresh fruits, not even bananas, which are grown there. Beach and Pool: Beach was amazing, even though it was too windy to enjoy some days. Loads of room at the pool, no searching for lounge chairs at all. Enjoyed it almost every day. Pool bar could have used a roving server. Restaurants: Buffet had an excellent variety of items to choose from, never went hungry. The A la Carte restaurants were alright, the property used two locations to serve the Gourmet, Italian and Cuban dinners. Rotated the venues, mind you, since it was low season, not all of the resort staff were employed at this time, makes sense. Staff: Absolutely Amazing! All of the staff from the buffet, restaurants and bar areas were almost bending over backwards to keep us happy which was greatly appreciated with return friendship to them, and the tips we gave didn't hurt either *chuckle*. Also, kudos to the transfer bus service. Fantastic service with both the drivers and reps both in and out of the resort. Would we go back, maybe when the economic situation stabilizes and starts getting better. Have to wait and see what the future brings.

Value for price - very good! The resort is easy to navigate, clean and well kept. The people were amazing, always going the extra mile to help and with a smile. The rooms a little tired but very clean and the beds comfortable. Water pressure in the sink low, but the shower was good. The beach - great!!!! The pool, very nice and cleaned daily. Always a lot of food but there are shortages, i.e. limes and sometimes cola. The buffet had a reasonable variety of pork, chicken and fish along with salads, lots of cheeses and breads and pasta. The snack bar had sandwiches, fries and pizza - all good. Again, very good for the price. Piano Bar - GREAT! They make a wonderful cappuccino in the morning and lots of fun in the evening. The ala carte restaurants need a little help with their menu but the staff very good. Would recommend the Italian. When we were there the resort was no more than half full so we always had our choice of lounges at the pool or the beach. This is a resort where you can have a good time, learn the salsa, pool dancing, beach games or just relax.

View 10/10: Beautiful resort, beautiful beach, beautiful pool. It honestly captivates you. Food 4/10: Very bland. No spices. No ketchup, no potatoes, no milk. etc. They have a shortage of practically everything. However, the cooked chicken/beef was good, some soups were good, and the bread was great. Cleanliness 4/10: The rooms were not clean. My throat hurt me every time I went to sleep, including my familys'. Service 6/10: Despite not being very clean, the people are pleasant and sweet. Nightlife 5/10: Mostly very dead in the resort, lol. Go outside the resort. Definitely not a 5-star hotel. They could do much better to bring it up to 5.

The hotel was advertised as 4.5 star. The service was not. First when I checked into the room, there were no towels at all except for a foot towel in front of the bath. I told the front desk and half an hour later when I was back in the room, they had placed bath towel in the room but no hand towel. The next morning I walked to the front desk and they very politely apologized and ensured me that it will be there. It was not by the afternoon, so I told them again and they very politely apologized and ensured it will be there shortly. It was not. I talked to the front desk the second day to no avail. Then on third day I asked straight for the manager, and he again apologized and ensured me. To no avail. On the second day I dropped some drinking water and I used the foot towel to clean up the mess and left the wet foot towel there and also informed the manager in my conversation that the foot towel has not been replaced and the mess is still there. Short story, they finally removed the wet foot towel on day 5 with no replacement so each time I wanted to get out of the showers, I had the likelihood of a fall. For the whole 7 days, I had no hand towel. Additionally, they never changed the bath towel during the 7 days. Easy to fix, but I do not understand why they did not.

Food quality could have been better The beach was overall good but the side of this resort were stones and sea weed underneath so we had to go the other side of the beach nearby resort to swim in peace..Overall it was great and staff was helpful and polite.. Boring night parties though

I have never in my 25 years of travelling complained once about a resort, this is the exception!!!! From the first day to the very last everything went wrong from day to day.This is all I’m going to say because people would not believe what went wrong on our 14 day (every day)vacation at this resort starting with management and their lack of professional courtesy towards tourist. My wife and I do understand that no matter the hotel be it a 5 stars, nothing in this world is perfect and this is understandable, you have to accept the good and the bad. We’ve done a lot of travelling and at ton of hotels including Iberostar which was one of the hotels we loved but all of this change with ALAMEDA. We were planning to go to Iberostar in Riviera Maya this fall but are now looking at alternative hotels.

The grounds are well maintained. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food is good but not great. Lots of fresh items to choose from. Skip the specialty restaurants. the three are all the same and the food is not tasty. The Cuban BBQ at lunch one day was very good - don't miss that. The beach was good. Lots of chairs to choose from - though many are saggy. The pools were quiet. Rooms are tired looking - the bed was a box spring and the mattress on the floor - very hard and uncomfortable. It gave me a sore back. the fan in the room was so loud that it made it difficult to sleep well. Value for money - it was good for a four-day break. I cannot imagine staying there any longer.

The hotel is small and easy to get around. The rooms are spacious, and clean. The food was good, much better than last year. Had a nice variety of salads, always had chicken, fish, pasta,veggies. Had butter for about 1 week or so,always had lots of bread,buns,cold meats,and cheeses. Even the bars had a better selection of alcohol,great cocktails,and fabulous cappuccinos. Their entertainment this year was very good. Always something was going on either at the beach in the mornings or exercising in the pool in the mornings, and in the afternoon music,and bingo.Was usually live music in the evening’s up by the lobby bar around 8pm u til about 9:30 pm. Then a show on at the theatre around 9:30pm,or else they had a DJ playing outside at the theatre that went from 9:30-10pm to around midnight. Also every Friday night they had a beach party starting at 10pm until 1am.So lots to do.Like all hotels in Varadero they are getting weary looking,but they are renovating some of the buildings slowly. It’s Cuba! But a great hotel for the money.

I just got back home from Cuba two days ago, so I may still be riding the high of a wonderful vacation, so take that as you will. Playa Alameda was really nice. Friendly staff, beautiful grounds, and an all around lovely stay. The resort was quiet and calm; an excellent place for rejuvenation and relaxation. My biggest complaints are the food (not bad, just not particularly good either), and the beach (gets stony about 15' from shore). From talking to people from other resorts, the food thing seems to be consistent all around, and can easily be solved by supporting local restaurants. It won't put much of a dent in your budget as the prices are very affordable. As for the beach I'll just say this: water shoes will be your friend. Problem solved. All this being said, I would absolutely stay there again in the future. And I'm a random person on the internet, so you know you can trust me.

What I enjoyed the most about the resort was the layout. I enjoyed the main common area with restaurants, bars, pools and games. This was surrounded by palm trees and several smaller buildings which housed accomodations. Each building with rooms was three stories high and housed I am guessing twelve rooms each. It made for a nice quiet private relaxed setting which to me looked quite exotic. The food was on the plain side but good. There was plenty of variety, everything was fresh, there were enought dishes that were flavourful that I was more than satisfied. The beach was nice, with soft sand and warm clear water. There was plenty of entertainment. While this is not a big thing for me it was good. Drinks were plentyful and generally good. My only complaint is I do like margaritias and thought I would be able to get a decent one in Cuba. Unfortunately this was not the case and the two that I did have were not great as there were no limes or margarita mix despite there being tequila.

It would have been a better stay if the rooms weren’t so out dated. We did not have drinking water in the room after the 3rd day to the last. Pillows did not smell right, we stopped receiving fresh towels on day 3 also. The water to the building shut off a few times including the morning were getting ready to leave. That was an inconvenience.

The negative: They ran out of toilet paper frequently. The rooms are old/tired and not cleaned very well. We had to ask the maid to clean the sink, taps and mirror in the bathroom. Floors not swept or washed. Buffet was not air conditioned. They opened the doors. Food was repetitive. No margarine/butter, syrup, bacon, sausages etc. Lots of complaints from guests. Also there is no place to get food snacks in between meals. The snack bar is supposed to open at 11 am but they don’t open till around 12 noon. My husband is diabetic and was very tough for him in between meals. The positive: beach is beautiful. Resort well laid out. Chairs comfortable, and the shows were great. We have been to Cuba a few times so we know what to expect. This resort was disappointing to say the least.

In our experience, the staff was extremely helpful, attentive, and friendly! The resort was clean, the room was comfortable, and there was always a place to eat and grab a drink. It was beyond our expectations! We plan to return.

Loved the tropical feel and very clean grounds. Staff is fantastic especially the beach staff and reception. Air transit staff at resort(Risci) was very helpful and friendly. Cuban people are fantastic. Very one should try Cuba!

This is a great resort for Cuba. Room o.k. Maid service great. Plenty of hot water. Water pressure was great. Had enough towels everyday . Air conditioner was working just fine. No lock on balcony but was very hard to open. No blackout curtains. No big deal there. Not a far walk to anything. Staff was wonderful. Lot's of entertainment on beach and pool. Disco was fun. Plenty to drink. Food was good. Never left hungry. Never used the gym but only opens at 9.00. Not a lot of lighting at night. Ocean was over the top beautiful. Beach is perfect. Around noon there were no more chairs. Also at the pool. This is Cuba you read the reviews and may be already been to Cuba. So you know what to expect. If you want luxury pay for it. I paid under $1100.00 and was very very pleased with my stay. Remember you get what you pay for. I had a blast and will be going back.

The grounds were well kept and the food is what you expect from Cuba however I do have a few concerns. The in room safe did not work, the rain shower head was a great idea however it leaked out the top and had damaged the plaster. The vent for the A/C was covered in mold (really bad). The fridge in the room was NEVER stocked and you had to beg for bottles of water. The draft taps hardly never worked and there was no option for canned beer in lieu. The cleaning staff didn’t sweep the floors, they simply made the beds. The gym opened at 9 AM, a little late for my liking considering breakfast was served til 10 AM. Stores on site close way to early. The staff did do a great job keeping guests entertained. My GF and I made the best of it but in this current financial climate I can see people being upset with the cost of a vacation and the quality you receive in return.

Pros-beach and pool were great;most staff were friendly and helpful; the grounds were clean and well maintained Cons-buildings are tired looking and in need of upgrades; constantly running out of supplies (towels, water, butter, beer, liquor (other than rum), hot water, very little change to the offerings at the buffet Definitely not a 5 star any more!!

Nice pool, nice beach, surprisingly good food (fresh fish everyday!) While there were a lot of repetitions with regards to rice and egg dishes, the chef attempted to introduce variety, especially in presentation, from day to day. The rooms were spacious, but could have benefited from more storage areas, especially shelves in the bathroom. There were some minor maintenance issues: lights that didn't work out, sliding doors that didn't slide, but overall cleanliness was good. The staff were friendly and helpful. the resort was operating under reduced capacity due to covid precautions. This meant limited theatre and not all the al a carte restaurants were open, but that was fine with us. We did NOT enjoy the rowdy Ontario university students who were there for reading week, but that isn't the fault of the hotel.

The resort layout and exterior appearance were very nice. . Rooms were very clean, but just needed a bit of updating. Especially the door locks, safes, and bathroom fixtures needed updating. Staff were friendly, but were very busy and it seemed like they needed a bit more training. The beach was the best part of being at this resort.

Arrived at the Varadero Airport, located our shuttle bus. After waiting on the bus for over 1hr and only 5 passengers on the bus at this time. I confirmed the number of passenger that we were waiting for, which was 49. I then asked " are we waiting for other planes to land to fill this bus ? The representative confirmed that this was correct. I told her that " I will take a cab and remove my luggage at this time. The other passengers standing outside also wanted to hitch a ride, however they were not staying at the same location. Arriving at the resort was less than welcoming as they were not expecting us until 4pm, The guard did not want to allow the cab driver through the gate to the resort, they exchanged some words in Spanish and we were allowed entry. We arrived shortly after 12pm. The woman at the front test proceeded to explain that us ladies were trouble makers and we were extremely early and they were not expecting us at that time. She did however allow us use of the resort, we did not receive instruction where anything was located in the resort. This was not an issue as the resort is small and you can find everything you need on your own. The entertainment was great and the staff work really hard to show you a good time. We always found something to eat on the resort and we had no complaints, The woman that made our omelette every morning was fantastic, and the servers are very friendly. The beach was amazing. The Cleaning service was overall good, take face clothes because they do not provide. They always provided fresh towels and water everyday. Overall! We had a blast and would recommend this hotel, and would come back again.

Just got back and it was a great time. Good was good, the rooms were redone and nice. The entertainment staff and all other stuff are super friendly they remember your name all week. The only bad stay was the flight.. won’t take swoop again.

This hotel is definitely not Iberostar quality. From the moment we arrived at the hotel the experience was not what i expected. I would rate this place at 2.5 stars at the very most. My family and i have travelled to Cuba many times prior to Covid and have had awesome vacations but this was the worst experience ever and i wish we had not spent our vacation fund money for this. Not sure if i will go back to Cuba again. Also disappointed in Trip Central as the travel agent suggested this hotel as one of the best in Varadero. First time booking with Trip Central and likely the last. ARRIVAL - there was no one there to welcome us to the resort nor was there anyone to help us with our luggage off the bus upon arrival. Should have been my first hint of the disappointing experience. ACCOMMODATIONS: Our rooms were dirty, run down, furniture was old and broken. The rooms were stinky and smelled very musty and moldy. We moved rooms on Day 2 and although the furniture was somewhat better the shower and sink did not drain very well so we had to turn the water on and off during showering. The hotel seemed very tired and run down. FOOD & DRINK: There were definite shortages of alcohol and food. There was only Rum and Beer on the menu which we drink neither. Often the resort would run out of mix. I am shocked since this is an all inclusive. The food was pretty much pork, inedible beef, and one type of fish. There was no variety and again the resort would run out of food on a daily basis. My daughter lived on cheese buns and cucumbers for the entire 10 days. We had to go out for dinner several nights to enjoy a nice meal. The "a la cart" dinners were the same thing as the buffet only presented a little nicer. Again disappointing. STAFS: The front desk staff appeared unhappy and not very friendly. We had to stalk them for bottled water and toilet paper on a daily basis. The other resort staff were ok but again not what i have experienced in the past. This was my daughters first vacation that she has paid for on her own after years of saving. She was very upset and the first half of our 10 day vacation was ruined by the disappointing experience. Definitely not going to this hotel chain in the future.

The food was the best of 8 resorts I've stayed at in Cuba. Nice modern shower. Nice layout of the grounds. There was no hot water. Little bugs in the hotel room. I would stay there again. I don't care for swoop. Had to pay$70 each way for luggage each person.

Just returned from a 10-day stay at the Iberostar Alameda with a friend and we both travelled using the Solo Air Transat package, having our own rooms. Overall it was a great resort and we had a wonderful time. Accommodations: Nice rooms, we were on the 2nd and 3rd floor which they graciously assigned in #19 which was close to the beach, terrace and restaurants - thank you Wendy! The rooms are spacious, the bed comfortable, working safe and the bathroom was wonderful. Ladies, don't bother bringing special hair dryers or flat/curling irons as there is only one plug in the washroom attached to their dryer which will only accommodate an electric shaver. The bedroom does not have any mirrors close to electrical outlets. My lights were out one night and the technicians came by instantly to fix the issue - this was amazing. The rooms need a thorough cleaning but all in all, the room was great. Beach: Beautiful beach and no issue getting chairs underneath a hut umbrella. There are some rocks further in the ocean but not harmful or sharp. Entertainment: Fantastic. Every evening on the terrace there is a band and a show or disco following. This was excellent! Entertainment at the pool during the day as well however, we are beach people. There were activities on the beach as well if you wish to participate. Food: No complaints - the food was great and plentiful. Breakfast had a wide variety, with eggs, omelets, pancakes, yogurt, cereal, fruit, cheese/cold cuts and the pastries were very good. Lunch equally as good and included veggies, salad, rice (of course) fish, porchetta and hamburgers. Dinner at the restaurants served good food, particularly the Italian. Staff: This is the best part - the staff are absolutely fantastic. Everyone made an effort to accommodate us in every way. From bartenders, to entertainment staff, the hotel reception, maids and waitresses who made our stay extra special. Grounds: The grounds are beautiful and the gardeners do a great job of keeping it well maintained. The buildings on the most part look okay however, the stairs in our building were loose and not stable or secured properly to the floor, and the outdoor stairwell walls could use a paint job. This resort has lots of potential and hopefully, it can be restored. Overall: I would return and recommend this hotel and will give it a 4 star because of cleanliness in the rooms and maintenance required. A great trip overall. I stayed at Playa Alameda at the end of January, 2023. It is the fifth resort I have stayed at in Cuba and I will rate it against the other similar 4-5 star resorts. Pros: -well maintained landscape, grounds and freshly painted exteriors of buildings -pool well maintained -great staff -better than average entertainment -cigar bar Cons: -no swim-up bar(s) -NO RYE WHISKEY! -rooms are tired and need upgrading; my mattress was worn out -hit & miss hot water in room -poor response time by staff to issues in room (e.g. locked out of safe) -1/2 of the pool area was approximately 18" deep -no VIP bars or sports bar Overall, I had an enjoyable visit. The gym is important to me. All hotel gyms in Cuba seem to have problems maintaining their cardio equipment and this one was no exception but I was able to get in good workouts there. What was very concerning was that there was not an adequate means to clean off the equipment after use. No anti bacterial spray or liquid provided. No paper towels. On occasion, you would be provided a cloth towel. The food was ok for Cuba. No bacon, orange juice or maple syrup for breakfast. For one week of my two week stay, there was no diet cola for mix. The lack of adequate usable pool area, swim up bar and rye whiskey would prevent me from returning to this hotel regardless of price. When your clientele is 70%+ Canadian, you do what you have to do to get rye whiskey! I WOULD RATE THIS HOTEL A 3 STAR OUT OF FIVE

The hotel is pretty just needs some upgrades. The hotel staff were so lovely and accommodating from the buffet to the beach staff, always willing to assist however the front desk staff not so pleasant. Toliet paper was always missing everywhere on the resort

We were very impressed with this resort. The grounds were very clean. The rooms were not too bad. The beach was very clean and had many available umbrella spots. The beach was beautiful as ever. Cuba is known for these beautiful beaches. The food was good. We found the food tastier and there seemed to be an abundant amount and quality of food. There was entertainment around 8:30 pm every evening on the front patio area followed by entertainment at the grand Theatre area around 9:30 pm. Most of all, the staff was very nice and always willing to help in any way they can. We were very happy with this vacation. People always need to come to Cuba and enjoy the beauty of the beaches and the people. They should not be thinking that they are going to find what they have at home. They need to come with an open mind. Enjoy your vacation and recommend this resort.

I found most aspects of this resort to be below standard or at least below expectations. From the start, the hotel reception staff seemed indifferent and often bothered that we had arrived. Simple requests, like requesting a bottle of water, having wifi activated in the room, etc, were returned with furrowed brows and no response. No one took the time, to show the resort but pointed to the map drawing (illegible) propped on a dirty display on lobby counter. Was given a key and had to figure out where the building and room were. We had to wait 24hrs for the next scheduled Sunwing rep appt session in order to get some perspective on the resort. At which time he really only offered ppl info on what to do if you’re traveling outside the resort. Rooms were dated and dirty. Maintenance staff were inconsistent, walk through rooms in dirty outside shoes, didn’t always change sheets/towels and spent a lot of time yelling at each other across rooms and buildings. The resort was very noisy all day with constant 90’s dance music playing at all times. Food was mediocre and service and service same. The lady who booked dinner reservations was unhelpful, didn’t speak English and petitioned me to buy Canadian coins, twice. All went from average to worse, following the delayed flights at the end of vacay.

Beautiful grounds, well maintained, clean. the beach is perfect. The staff is polite and friendly. Rooms are comfortable but need some maintenance. The food is variable and well presented, always fresh. The service is well organized.

This is the first time I have traveled so I don't have anything to compare to, but I truly enjoyed the week we spent here. The staff was awesome. The food, although limited, was good. The beach was clean and ended up being my favorite place to be. We even explored some of Varadero, and spent two nights in Havana. Truly a trip I will never forget.

Overall, the resort was very good. Food was absolutely delicious - do not go expecting burgers and fries, but there are whole foods, chicken, pork, lamb, fish, eggs, fruit, full salad bar, salad dressing…. Etc! Rooms were pretty dated, bathrooms weren’t cleaned very well, but the staff do the very best they can with what they’ve got. The beach is absolutely breathtaking. Very comfortable loungers, shaded umbrellas. Grounds are immaculately kept. Staff are friendly. We just came back, and booked again at this resort for April. It should be noted that this isn’t a party resort. There were some pretty let down younger people here wanting to really “party”. The entertainment is good, but it doesn’t get wild at the disco. Lastly. Very run down gym, no jacuzzi.

This hotel is old. In our room, the safe was not attached to anything, the patio door couldn't open, bedding was stained. This was fixed after we spoke to the front desk. Bathrooms on resort were terrible. Most of the time there was no toilet paper, no soap to wash hands, broken locks on doors, toilets wouldn't flush, no water to wash hands. Grounds looked okay. None of the large water fountains were working and the pool must of had a leak because the water level was down by a foot. At the buffet we were given 4 pieces of toilet paper as napkins. The food was okay, you would not starve. Some days were good. The entertainment was not great except for one night there was a 3 piece band that was good. However after all that, the beach was great and the people that work there are awesome!!....so friendly and helpful and always a smile on their faces. Everyone we spoke to was disappointed. There also was no rye, vodka, gin or any cream drinks(Baileys, Amaretto) Wine seemed watered down.

I can’t say I’d recommend this resort to anyone. I was travelling alone this time so my standards aren’t what they would be if I was with someone important. Food was substandard, I expected this from the country however, this particular resorts selection was less than limited. A la cart was always followed by a trip to the buffet to top up or to forget what you did eat at the restaurants. Rusted fixtures in the bathrooms and water was hit and miss for washing. Sometimes it worked sometimes it didn’t. The pool area was small so I can’t imagine the disaster it would be if they were running at full capacity. I didn’t like begging for water in my room either. I never did receive a new towel my entire stay. Getting a towel from the pool cabana was a bit of an ordeal. Checking in was fine however the lack of communication as to where to get anything was left up to the guest to find out. Bed sheets had holes in them and the door to the balcony couldn’t be opened by someone elderly I’m sure. Batteries for the safe in the room were done so that couldn’t be used. Nightly entertainment was “ok”. But again, you had to listen to hear where it was on the resort to find it. I’m not sure how this resort had the rating it did. If this is a 4 star then it’s a one star ANY where else in the Caribbean. I won’t be back. I do understand the hurdles Cuba has to go over in order to get what they do have. This will be my last time visiting the country for a very long time. I would have hated to bring my son or significant other to this place. It would have been embarrassing to be honest.

No diet drinks, no fruit ,only rum to drink, no drinks in our hotel room, food was awful water dripping from our ceiling, could not shut off our air conditioning we where freezing and had trouble opening our room door.and had bad wifi Also resort did not meet Sunwing’s brochure description this was not a 5 star maybe 2 no premium drinks no frozen drinks no drinks in our room fridge deck loungers broken would no go there again or go with sunwing

Hotel looks great. Grounds are well maintained, beach is wonderful. Food is exactly the same every night. If you love grilled chicken and grilled tilapia, you're in luck. The room was nice, shower is great. The bed was the worst part of the room. We were "upgraded" to a superior room from a tropical garden view. New room put us right beside the live music every night. The music was legitimately excellent and the musicians were great, but we did several day trips that required us to wake up early. Music was not what we needed.

I’ve been to Cuba one to many times. The thing that was disappointing was always getting booted off of their wifi. The hotel itself says free wifi around the resort, but it kicks you out very often. The atmosphere was great and the staff were too. The other thing that was misleading was there was no 24 hour bar or food service. That was kind of disappointing. The food.. well the food was okay, I stuck to pasta and burgers all week.

i’ve been to Cuba 22 times I know what the foods like I go anyway you can find something to eat you won’t starve in Cuba but this time there was no meat in the Buffet we ate at the snack bar every day wieners and mystery meat burgers disgusting so disappointed this time around I guess you can blame it on Covid or the down season but won’t be staying there again. Also the staff never really wanted to pay attention to you the resort itself is nice cleanish for a five star hotel two thumbs down. The towels the sheets the pillows blankets all smelled like Pee… Or mould mildew

Myself and hubby stayed at Iberostar Playa Alameda from June26 to July 3 2022. Lots of beautiful mileage of beach to explore. Local vendors on the beach. Plenty of fresh fruit options available. Hotel staff and bartenders are super friendly and so helpful. Nightly shows available and extra entertainment on certain days of the week. Lots of additional tours available for extra cost. Food is bland but they do have options available to make your dish spicier. Rooms are clean and stocked daily with fresh towels. Drinks included unlimited and they serve the best cappuccino and mochachino. Pool table and tennis table available and included in all inclusive. Three alacartes available for Italian Caribbean and Romantico meals. Eduardo Chuc went over and beyond to make sure I had vegetarian meals.

The resort is really amazing!!! It's just a right size for us - everything is max 5-7 min walking distance. The beach and ocean - the most beautiful part. The rooms are big and very clean, AC is very good. Wi-Fi is everywhere is pretty good. My husband likes to watch news so he was very happy with Wi-Fi. The food is good - I liked the grilled calamаries (squid) and fish. We were there in May which is Mango season. We've enjoyed mangos during breakfast, lunch and dinner :) Please note, we had to wear masks in the buffet when you take a food to the plate and lobby if you need any assistance. Otherwise, no masks are required. I would like to mention a snack bar by the pool - very tasty sanwiches, hotdogs and amazing service. Actually, the service is great everywhere - what a friendly, beautiful people work there!!!! 2 garden guys gave me a little handmade flower every day :). We would like to thank everyone in the resort. Great service everywhere!!! Thank you my favorite Cuba for the great vacation. We are planning to come over again sometime in November (we will have 45 wedding anniversary on Nov 25th).

Not a newcomer to travelling in Cuba but bewildered by this last trip and the poor service received at this resort. The room we checked into was one I would have never have stayed at back home (too much to write about with limited characters). Disgusting! The food at each and every meal was extremely disappointing and what was the most troublesome was the lack of caring & pride of service from the workers here. Not at all what I have seen in the past 25 years while travelling in Cuba. I would not recommend this property to anyone and feel that carriers need to heed warning from guests who have experienced the problems firsthand.

the staff were so friendly and efficient and our room was always clean and fresh. The grounds were kept immaculate and although we didn't have a great variety of food there was plenty for people to choose from. there was no facecloths so suggest you bring your own....I loved my holiday in the sun on the beautiful beaches in Cuba. They were very cautious concerning Covid and we all felt very safe. Would definitely recommend this vacation resort!

The Hotel was well kept and clean. The first few days no wine was available only to purchase. Wine became available as it should be with an all inclusive and food improved significantly in our last few days. Great place for a reasonable price. Beach and Pool great. Staff all friendly and helpful.

The resort is gorgeous. The adults only is a blessing! I love kiddos, but I have to admit, not having the screaming and yelling was peaceful. Due to Covid the resort was lacking in supplies. There was no wine at meals, no choices of meats at the buffet. No pizza, fries or hot dogs at the the grill. Most of the ala cartes were closed and the beach grill was closed. The last 2 days of our stay the head office folks showed up and voila! Wine at meals, hot dogs and pizza! Drinks were served in proper glasses, beer in frosted beer mugs. We had ketchup and mayo in wee serving dishes. Drink service around the pool! Staff were pulling out chairs for the female guests! A facade put on for the head honchos no doubt, but those 2 days (our last) were quite nice. Too bad it's not a regular habit. And this may be a little thing, but the resort has beautiful fountains everywhere, but only one runs and then not everyday! The rooms are spacious, plenty of hot water, good pressure. Staff are very good. Don't exchange your money into pescos. They take canadian money. And this is odd. They don't accept US money but everything in the gift stores etc are priced in US dollars. All in all it was an enjoyable resort and vacation. I'd try a different place next time though!

The grounds are beautiful, the pool area was great , the rooms could use some work and the entertainment was good.The beach area was awesome. Covid rules were adhered and it felt safe. The food was not very good. The workers were amazing and very friendly and helpful. We were not told about all the events going on and found out about them to late

I know things are hard with covid. Trying to restart everything. They are doing a great job. Place is clean / staff great /drinks cold/beach great/ pool warm/. Was nice to get away. Resort at 25 % capacity so shortages but lots to drink and eat. They are doing great job was more then pleased with my trip

Love this hotel because it is a small hotel,easy to get around. The staff is absolutely amazing!! That’s why we have been going there for years. The food right now is not very good, because of Covid. Things have been very hard for the Cuban people to get. The rooms are very spacious, and clean. But unfortunately they only leave water in the rooms now. There is no beer, or pop.No coffee makers either at the moment. Food in general is not the best in Cuba,but the restaurants Italian,and Romantico are okay. The beach is fabulous and easy to get lounge chairs . The hotel has been quieter than we have ever seen it, not much entertainment at night.But hopefully things will pick up soon. Beer is hard to get in Cuba, it’s a hit and a miss! Rum is always available, but other drinks a little harder. The Hop on Hop off Bus stops right outside the hotel and it comes every 30 minutes, and it’s $5.00 Canadian.

Grounds lovely and well kept. People are warm and friendly.loved the beach and swimming. Food good but bland. Fish always nicely cooked. A couple of mornings they had no eggs. There was a great Cuban band that played on the outdoor square— loved their music!!

At this time, this resort, and I suspect most other resorts in Cuba are trying very hard to come back post pandemic, but are not quite there yet. I knew this prior to booking, but was not aware to what extent it would play. The grounds are beautiful for the most part. A little dry looking generally, and the wildlife pond opposite the pool looks like it needed about another foot of water pumped into it. Kind of green/brown and scummy looking, although it did not smell which was a bonus. The wait staff and the Cuban people who work there are amazing. So friendly and helpful with a "Hola, com esta?" Certain areas and venues were not operational. There is an 'Ice Cream' hut near the pool. Always empty, no one around, although there was ice cream at the buffet. But just vanilla and strawberry. A restaurant closer to the beach, deserted. A couple of bars that it didn't seem you were supposed to step up to. They kept the doors closed, and had wait staff come to your table and take your drink order. I didn't have a problem with that. They were always so nice. The food? Well, you know what they say, you don't go to Cuba for the food, and they're not fooling around. Although the food always seemed fresh, it was the exact same fare everyday. Now I know how the dog feels. They occasionally moved the dishes around from area to area, possibly to give the illusion that there was some variety, but they weren't fooling anybody. Covid protocols dictate the staff must put the food on the plate for you. Usually too much, and I hate wasting food, especially in a country were some might not eat every day. You just point to what you desire. Don't you dare touch the serving spoon or tongs. I forgot once and received a stern but still friendly look. I had to laugh, the al a carte's are no different. It's the same food as in the buffet, but it was presented a bit prettier on the plate, but again, it's the exact same food. They must have just taken some from the buffet over to the al a carte restaurants. Only went to two. Not worth dressing up in long pants and a collared shirt to eat the same food as the buffet. Most of the dishes had no spice, no flavour. I was made aware of this prior, so I brought a bottle of hot sauce from home to liven things up a little, and I'm glad I did. Take ketchup with you too, if that's what want, because there simply isn't any. I brought a few ketchup packets along, and one day another hotel patron saw me opening one over my omelet at breakfast, and asked where I got it from on the buffet. I said, "Didn't. Brought it from home, sorry". Good luck getting any salt or pepper out of the shakers. It's a solid block in there from the humidity. Pull the plug out of the bottom, and you might get some, but be careful. It tends to all come out at once as I found out the hard way. Four stray dogs and a couple of cats frequent the buffet at meal times and sit by your chair looking for a handout if you choose to eat at the outside tables. They don't dare venture inside. A couple of the dogs will take the food from your hand, and they are so gentle. Not like our ungrateful K9 at home who gets feed every day. Nearly takes my finger with it, every time. The other dogs and the cats are a little timid and standoffish, and you must throw the food to them, and it shows. They are skinnier than the ones that take it from you. Wine and beer are a hit or miss on certain days and in certain restaurants. On our first day, we got there and checked in just in time for lunch. When I came back to our table with my food, my wife informed me she was told by wait staff that there was no cerveza (beer). Ever. In the whole resort. All week. I said "you've got to be (bleep) kidding me". I think I used an expletive as well. Well, we found this not to be entirely true, they did have it, but not always. Wine wasn't always available either, and they ran out of red wine mid week. I think they save it to sell at the al a cartes. My wife drinks red wine exclusively. She was not impressed. They were not able to make a wide variety of cocktails at the bars either due to availability. I never want to have another Pina Colada again. The beach was gorgeous, and the water was always beautiful shades of turquoise and azul. We were always able to find a couple of loungers and a palapa, although sometimes at the far end from the entrance. The water was too wavy and the undertow was too strong for a non-swimmer like myself. Sand is deep and difficult to walk in. Reminded be of walking in deep snow in Canada. A number of jellyfish washed up on shore. Had to step around those carefully. Our room was OK. Just OK. Safe worked flawlessly. Bed was firm. Not impossible to sleep on, although my back was sure glad when we got home to our own bed. Our room was on the ground floor, and although the main door locked fine, the adjacent sliding glass patio door did not lock. It had a catch only that could be jiggled loose if someone was determined enough. We kept the curtains closed when we weren't there, and hoped no potential thieves were the wiser. Hot water wasn't always available for a shower, but if you ran it long enough, it got lukewarm. Sometimes. Sort of. Toilet tank didn't always refill after a flush, but I was able to jiggle the supply valve and get water to seep in slowly as long as you didn't need to flush it again right away. I guess we could have requested another room, but if I can make something work, albeit not the way it ultimately should, I'll go with that instead of making waves with the front desk. The mini-bar was always empty. I guess you're just supposed to use it for your own items. No beer or pop like we've had at other resorts. Toilet paper seemed to be a hot commodity, and after the toilet paper hoarding fiasco early pandemic in Canada, I was not in the mood. If there was even a few sheets left on the roll when the maid came in to service your room, you wouldn't get another. We got to hiding what we had in a drawer and leaving her an extra couple of bucks so we'd get a fresh roll. Can't imagine what non-tippers did to wipe themselves. Shudder. The nightly entertainment didn't happen every night, and it was fairly lame as usual at most all-inclusives. Other nights there was an impromptu mariachi band that went from table to table playing songs at half tempo. Imagine 'Yesterday' by the Beatles at half tempo. Haha. We had the unfortunate luck of having to return on March 31st, the day before the requirement for an antigen test was removed. We waited almost two hours in the morning to get the test done at $25USD each, and then were told to come back at 3:30-4 o'clock for the paperwork. Waited another 2 hours just to get the form when we returned that afternoon, and had a rude woman from a neighbouring resort jump the line and get hers completely done, form and all, while the rest of us waited even longer. So, our seven day vacation was really only four. The first day is mostly wasted getting there, and you're so exhausted from the 3:30am arrival at the airport and the grueling, hurry up and wait plane and bus ride, that you pretty much just want to sleep the rest of that first day. The next day, it rained, all day, although that's no fault of the resort or the Cuban people. Then we had 4 beautiful nearly cloudless warm days and cooler evenings, although the last two were so windy the beach was not an option unless you enjoy picking sand out of your teeth, and the last day was wasted on the antigen test. Do I recommend this resort? Sorry, I don't, but maybe things will improve once we get further out of the restrictions of the past two years.

More then expected from a Cuba adults only resort in just post pandemic. Food really basic but you’ll not starve 😀 For drinks I stick for all stay with Tequila and beer. There no vodka on the resort. Cappuccino is perfect as usual. Bar personnel is fast and very friendly. All staff actually was friendly and quite helpful. Every night there is a dance by the theatro till 1 AM. Beach is wonderful. Good condition tennis courts. Valleyball net on the beach. No shortage of pool or beach chairs at all. Reception is quick and resourceful. Wi-Fi is ok and free. If you need to recharge, no problem at the reception or from your room by calling the reception. We had a lot of fun with new friends we made there! Strongly recommend this hotel for people who love to have fun.

The hotel was amazing. Rooms where spacious and clean. Food impeccable and varied. Beach has beautiful white sand and water was clear blue and serene. Bus came frequently to take everyone into town. Very fun and interesting activities.

The Resort was very nice, but as an overall experience, I would only give it a 4-star rating. The food 3+. The Reception area was overwhelmed with those checking in, checking out, exchanging $, etc. The majority of the staff was great, the entertainment was good; there was not shortage of things to do. People at resort very friendly and nice. Food was the best I ever had and I have been to Cuba at least 6 times. It was kind of weird that they ran out of French fries, chicken and coke a cola. The breakfast were great with a large asortment of baked goods and breakfast items. Entertainment was good. The coffe was great as well.

This was our first visit to the Iberostar Playa Alameda and we enjoyed the resort and all it's facilities. The employees were always friendly and the hotel was well looked after. The size of the resort was perfect with around 350 rooms situated in eleven - 3 story buildings. The layout of the resort made all the facilities such as the beach, pool, restaurants, courtyard and theater easy to find. Everyday there was a variety of entertainment from 7 to 8:30 pm in the outdoor part of the lobby bar followed by the house band in the courtyard. We will return!

Everything was so beautiful looking for to go back there again it is so beautiful and the beach is so amazing and the staff so remarkable they keep us busy at all time we dance play all kind of game and so nice to walk around at night and the sun is so nice

We recently stayed at the Playa Alameda in Varadero. All in all it was a great vacation. The staff are friendly and helpful. The first room we were given unfortunately had a bad mold smell and was quite damp. After a few days we were able to switch rooms. The second one we were offered was excellent. Very clean and bright. The resort is a great size, not too big. Night life was great. Lots of activities offered. We would go back!

Grounds clean and well kept Food is best we've had in Cuba Workers do the best they can and truly make a big difference. Friendly and work very hard Towels are rare as is toilet paper Beds are hard and thin. Linens not so clean. Pillows are pancakes

This hotel wasn’t great. It was clean, staff were friendly, and beautiful oceanfront, but everything else was lacking. Pool is only open until 6pm, rooms are basic and in need of upgrades. The shower flooded every time it was used (less than 5 minutes) and we had to call several times to get the issue addressed. All of the other members of our groups experienced issues with their rooms as well. The food was horrible even by Cuban standards. Would not be going back.

Just got back from a 5 day stay at Iberostar Playa Alameda. Since we were there for such a short period of time, we didn't do any excursions and stayed on the resort. Luckily, there was lots to do - Charlie and the entertainment team do a great job of hosting events. We did rum and cigar tasting and pairing, cocktail mixing, dancing, and much more. The fresh-grilled meat and sausages by the beach during lunch was a favourite daily activity. The grounds and beach were incredibly well maintained. For the most part, the staff were also incredibly kind. One thing that was a bit frustrating was that many people would put things on beach and pool chairs to reserve them and leave for hours at a time. If you come here, please be kind and take your stuff with you when you leave! The room itself was fairly muggy - I'd recommend leaving the AC on for as long as possible, otherwise the moisture will make your clothes smell a bit funky. There was also a piece of glass on the floor when we first came in and the balcony door was broken. However, the rooms are fine if you're just using them to sleep in at the end of the night and not spending your days there. Overall this was a great place to stay, even if the rooms were somewhat lacking.

The staff are the best at the Iberostar Playa Alameda just 10 kms from Varadero . The food was great at the buffet, Italian and Romantico. Our room was keep very clean and tidy everyday by some amazing housekeeping staff. Like all hotels there are always a few things that need to be fixed but these were looked after by repair workers in an "island time" fashion. The work was done and everything was in running order again. The beach is beautiful, clean and easy to walk into and out of. Say "Hi!" to Charlie if you go there, he is the Entertainment manager and a great guy.

Overall good hotel to stay at. Nothing fancy but nice and functional. Food at the dining facility was good. The 3 a la carte restaurants were not as good. Lack of pool-side and beach lounger was an issue. Simple solution would be to not allow saving a lounger with a single towel. Either use it or loose it. Mostly Canadians at this hotel (80%). Did not meet any Americans. Most of the staff had trouble understand English, but they were very friendly. The nightly shows in the theatre were nice. Beach was fantastic.

This year was our third vacation to Cuba. Once to Cayo Coco and twice to Varadero. Bar far this was the best vacation of all three. The resort is older that the other two we visited but the resort is so well maintained and the staff go above and beyond to make sure you are enjoying your vacation. Ever staff member that walks by you at the resort always acknowledges you and often asks if you are having a good time. The food was amazing...there was even season which we had previously heard was lacking in Cuban food. The Beach BBQ every day at lunch was fantastic. The after dinner performance and the evening shows were amazing. Often when asked whether I would return to a resort, my response is usually no...only because I often want to experience new places and new hotels. However I definitely know I will be going back to Iberostar Playa Alameda.

Too many things to list, first AC was cool but didn't draw out the humidity at all, had to iron my clothes. Bathrooms at the beach I wouldn't send a homeless person into, urinals full and spilling over all the time. Wooden walkway to the beach just unsafe to use. No evening lighting, broken or missing bulbs. Food cooked at the beach BBQ was always burned, always!!¡!!!!!!!

The resort overall was very nice. Not crowded in the bars or buffet. It was clean and had some nice ammenities. The rooms were quite bad. When we arrived the pillow had mold on it and we did not get the king sized bed we had requested. The sheets were so moist it felt like I was sleeping in a wet bed. The repairs were very poorly done in a lot of places and kind of ruined the atmosphere in some places. However, the food was very good. Huge selection of different foods and it mostly gets cooked in front of you. The restaurants were very nice as well.

It has beautiful clean grounds but lack of service. It says it offers king beds and coffee makers but they don’t. 90% of rooms is two double beds that are not comfortable at all but are clean. Maids due a great job. Buffet is very good and the only place you get great service. Bars are always a wait and there is no waitresses except if you sit in main entrance and even then it’s a good half hour wait for anything. I would give it a three star at best.

We have been to Varadero almost 10 times, and stayed at several different resorts, and this one was horrible. The service was the worst; we paid over $400 on the 3rd day to switch. Best decision we made.

Resort could use some work normal fur Cuba fairly clean the Sunwing terminal has changed to a satellite so extra bus ride from first terminal to 2nd terminal long Taxi ride in the plane to take off not mentioned to us beforehand

We paid extra to stay in a suite. The door had been kicked in and the jamb wasn't replaced so it didn't lock properly, the air conditioner was broken (so was the fan) so the room was humid and dank.. there was black mold growing on the ceiling and on our pillows. There was no water in our room on arrival, the mini fridge was broken, and the toilet paper and water were only replaced when I complained. We were told the resort was fully booked and our room could not be changed, but we did not new mold-free pillows. The resort is advertised as having 5 bars, but they often only have one open at a time. The pool bar is advertised as 24 hours, but it ran out of alcohol by 2am most nights and the beer isn't cold at night because they stop using kegs in the evening and start using cans. Of our group for 4, one person was terribly sick with food poisoning and two were otherwise afflicted... We booked a snorkeling excursion, and when we arrived at the destination they had about 15 snorkels for 200 people. I complained, and I was told "This is communism; learn to share." I spoke to the SunWing rep at the resort, and she offered to refund us 2.5 pesos each for the $100 trip. The beach was nice, but there were cigarette butts everywhere and we also found a used condom. There is wifi in the lobby which costs $1 per hour. Only the resort manager can give you a password, and he offers the wifi free to anyone who will go online and leave a positive review then and there.

Great location on Varadero peninsula for kitesurfing. Not too many other kiters. Room was ok but sliding door didn't lock on our room and next room. We kept valuables in safe and didn't worry about it.

try to be honest while i do my review. overall cleanliness was OK. Beach was great. BUT they try to feed you with minimum veraieties foods and repeatitive cheep stuff. We were sick and tired of the same foods every day and night , low quality big chicken leg n smelly fish... I love Cuba for the beach and I have been to Cuba 7 times so i know how to set my expectation when I go to Cuba but honestly everything about this resort was below average. sun beds r sagging hardly you can find an ok one. drinks are watery and tasteless , even their pina colada doesnt have pineapple juice. Entertainements are very ordinary.... I would give them 2 or 3 star at best
