The resort itself was beautiful, the grounds were well kept. The pool I used was great and the people were lovely. The food was good and hot. The only thing that was an issue was the hill you needed to walk up and down to go from the lobby to the pool, beach and restaurants. The hill was a little challenging for people with mobility issues. All in all a nice resort but I would not recommend to anyone with mobility issues.

I travelled April 18-25, 2026 with my friend. We were looking for a restful week of sunshine, surf and beverages and the Allegro did not disappoint. Having stayed at numerous Caribbean Resorts, this resort is older and more basic than most. It is very peaceful. The room was adequate although we were in building 11 which is THE closest to the Theatre and Lobby. This proved noisy during the nighttime entertainment but we made the best of it. It also proved noisy to be right beside the cart path the employees take every morning and evening with their cleaning carts or other carts of stock back and forth. One bonus is that they don't use key cards as your wristband opens your room. Our fridge was stocked as we requested and the cleaning crew did a very nice job daily. The food was good. There were three options for a la carts - Mexican, Italian and Asian. The only thing I did not like was having to line up in the lobby every day if we wanted to book an a la cart for that night. You could only book one meal at a time, the day of. We did the Mexican and Italian. The rest of our dinners were buffet. There is also a buffet at the pool bar but we preferred to have pizza made to order just outside of the pool bar for lunch. The beach is absolutely huge and the water was beautiful. They did their best to clean up the constant influx of sargassum. We never had an issue getting a chair at the beach or the pool and towels were always available at the towel hut. The staff are amazing and very cheerful. They were a pleasure to associate with.

If your looking for a relaxing vacation this is your resort! Food was mediocre, not a huge selection but you could always find stuff to eat. Grounds were beautiful and well manicured. The staff were incredibly kind and went above an beyond to help with anything. Rooms although small were clean and comfortable. Never had a problem with air conditioning or hot water. Pools were nice and never to crowded. The lounge chair game wasn't to bad but if you came past 10am was harder to find chairs at the pool. Beach is beautiful water is blue. Entertainment is lacking but they try their best! Overall if you are looking for a good location, relaxing vacation, then this is a great value for the price. This is on the lower budget end but for the cost it is well worth it! If your coming for the beach its perfect, if your coming for the food, entertainment and luxury room book somewhere else. For a quick easy cheap vacation, I would recommend this resort all day long!

Wanted a break from the freezing cold and decided to return to Allegro. It has been over 30 years since our first trip and we were not disappointed. Things in the area have change a lot but that's no surprise. Check in was fast and efficient, had a couple of issues in the room which were resolved quickly. Beach is great. It's a short walk to a shopping market outside and about a half hour wank into Playa Del Carmen (which is now a lot lot bigger and busier than last time). Food was OK, specialty restaurants require you to line up at about 9:00 am if you want to get a reservation/ They have three, Italian, Mexican and Asian. We tried the Italian and it was nice. All in all a very restful week.

Rooms need to to be updated. Staff has got to be able to communicate with customers better…very few of the staff spoke English, had a hard time communicating with staff. Very expensive for items on resort, can understand they need to be a bit higher but one does not have to mortgage their homes to buy a snack. This resort was really nice. Smaller resort but the layout was exceptional. The beach was amazing and beautiful withnalot of activities. Vendors on the beach too! Lots of lawnchairs. Patrolled all day. Both buffets had amazing food and pizza was so so good. The grounds and rooms were so clean. Amazing and fun staff! Definetely a go to place in the future!

The resort was the perfect size and very clean..the beach was amazing, nice white sand and lots of loungers...Pool was great too. Food and drinks were fabulous...the animation staff and bartending staff we also good. There is a lot of critters running around but that was ok too. We had a tough time getting alacarte restaurants but managed 2 in the week we were there. My only problems was i had booked 2 months in advance and we were a group of 6 women and requested our rooms be together. We were split up into 3 different buildings and not even close together...i even emailed the resort before we went to tell them my booking number and my request...my travel agent also sent the request in...i dont understand why when 6 people all book together on the same booking they cannot put us together...front desk staff was absolutely no help and downright rude...but, we still had a fabulous time

The rooms and the grounds were very well kept. The beach was beautiful. Amazing staff The only problem was not getting rooms together the manager that night we arrived was very rude to us. I would definitely go back to this resort.

This cute little resort is tucked away in a charming, gated Suburb Playacar. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, food was always fresh and delicious. Their meal times were lengthy to give all guests a chance to dine. Pools were clean and refreshing with plenty of loungers-all in perfect condition. The grounds are beautiful and exciting to see local wildlife - the Coatl, the Agouti and many lizards. Found it intriguing that there is a staff who carries a falcon around to scare away the pesty black birds. The rooms had a comfy hammock and 2 chairs to lounge on the porch. Inside was cozy but not a lot of space to put away luggage. Big screen tv with lots of English channels. Beds were firm with lots of pillows. The sink and mirror was outside the bathroom which was handy for 2 sisters travelling together. The bathroom was clean and had a shower only - unfortunately very low water pressure and virtually no hot water. Varied activities in the pool, my favourite was the Mariachi band - they were fantastic! There was a movie and a show almost every night - my favourite was the Michael Jackson tribute. I didn't make it to the little Discotech. The beach had an abundance of loungers. The 1st day water was quite choppy and there was a lot of seaweed on the shore but we braved the waters anyway. The rest of the time, beach was gorgeous and we could walk very far out enjoying the gentle roll of the waves. Just a 2 minute walk down the street was a great outdoor shopping mall, with lots of vendors and even a Starbucks. Playa Del Carmen is only about 10min drive away....taxi charged us 300 MXN Pesos each way which we thought was expensive but we enjoyed shopping on '5th Avenue'. We booked our own excursion through the Air Transat app, with Viator Tours, to Chichen Itza, Valladolid and Cenote Chichikan for $160 CDN each. Included all transportation, entrance to all, a buffet lunch and Tequila taste testing. Other excursions I've been on we were provided drinks on the bus - water and usually a shot of tequila, unfortunately none were provided. We really enjoyed ourselves (myself, sister, brother, sister-in-law, adult nephew). There's a good possibility my sister and I will be back next year!

This hotel was exactly what my 18-year old and I needed, amazing beach and ocean access, good food and drinks and entertaining shows at night. Unfortunately, two of the three restaurants were closed while we were there and if you look for anything to eat after 10pm, you are out of luck. The rooms are comfortable (two big beds) and we were lucky to be right in the middle between the main restaurant and the beach. I liked the layout of the resort with all the smaller buildings with rooms and the two pools. Also, if you look for a little shopping, Playa Del Carmen is an easy 20 minute beach walk away with lots of shops and restaurants. The shows were great and the staff was very friendly. I would go back because of the beautiful beach and relaxing atmosphere.

This was our 4th visit and we love the intimate feel of it as it's a smaller resort. The villas are close together and the rooms are small but have all the amenities. The food at the buffets is great, with a different theme each night so we never bother with the a la cartes. Beach is fabulous, and the pools are clean. Usual loud music around one pool but the other one is quieter. Plenty of loungers and beach towels available. We love seeing the animals that live on the lush grounds. We went with Air Transat Vacations and our only complaint was how long we had to wait at the airport for the transfer to the hotel (90 minutes). We took a taxi back for $75 USD and slept in a couple more hours.

The hotel and grounds were well maintained, spacious, neat and clean. The beach view was breathtaking. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The rooms were clean and air conditioned. It was a little noisy from 8:30-10:30pm at night with the sounds from the entertainment which was amplified far too loud. You could hear the MC all the way from the front lobby to the ocean. It was definitely overkill and unnecessary. Also, the walls in the rooms are paper thin and since there are straw roofs which are open to the outside, you can hear people talking in other rooms and outside, which was a little disruptive. During the late night though, the entire complex was quite quiet and peaceful. We all got sick from the food and it was not as described by our travel agent. Food was plentiful and varied but bland and it wasn’t easy to get salt and pepper to our table when we ate there. The Mexican restaurant (one of 3 different ones at the resort, which offered seated meals as opposed to buffet, was a big disappointment. The food was the same as in the regular daily buffets except it was served to us. The menu was “fixed”, so we had very little choice and we did not enjoy the food at all. Staff were excellent as usual, however. We expected more from the food since we paid a big amount for the 10 day resort for 4 people. Despite the disappointment concerning food, we would still recommend this resort for its excellent location, safety, cleanliness and easy access to the beach, which was fabulous.

Few experiences may help the clients: 1) Online booking is set up to pay using the Credit Card number, Name, and Expiry. Nowhere it is mentioned that they are also looking for a phone number that is associated with the Credit card company. The Credit card will not go through, sticker and Invoice will not be issued. Someone from trip central will call you to get the phone number. Suggestion: Clearly mention in the online booking page, the CC info and the associated phone number is required to process payment. 2) The booking page flight timing and the flight times at the actual flight info page already shows a different time. This should be fixed in online booking page. 3) On arrival at the destination, where to get the airport shuttle picture will help greatly to first time travellers. 4) The resort charges one time environmental fee and that should be made aware of. 5) Airport transfer to resort was great. 6) Allegro resort requires booking for Mexican and Italian restaurant reservations and that will only in person near the front desk. People wait from morning 8.00 am to meet the reservation clerk who started at 9.00 am. You will lose a day’s morning for reservations. This can be online as well so people can plan and book. WASTE of time of every one. MUST CHANGE 7) The working of in room Fridge and Hot water for bathing always an issue. No HOT water on most days in the morning for taking bath.Must be fixed 8) Excellent staff and waiters at both restaurants and great. 9) Food Varieties are plenty and good 10) Local sight seeing options are very expensive to book in hotel. Better to get it from other online or travels. 40% easily can be saved by booking outside. Once booked, NO CANCELLATION is possible and the tour booking staff won’t attempt to call the tour company to cancel and pay the refund. Simple argument is that, you signed the contract and you were told to read the terms and conditions. So cancellation is always possible with ZERO refund. Be aware of this. The resort claims that the higher cost is due to insurance etc., but no were mentioned about what type of insurance and details. So be-aware 11) There is an Air transat office set up at the resort and no guarantees that they will show up as per timing on the chart. The timing chart and the phone numbers are behind the glass door and you have to guess they are emergency numbers and reachable. You just have to try your luck and on my case it worked. Overall : Great service staff, excellent food options. DO NOT dream of Mexican and Italian restaurant food reservations and no guarantees. Expensive and Expensive to pay in USD

The resort itself is small and a bit dated. A/C was cold and worked great. Our smallish room was adequately stocked with amenities. Beautifully located close to the beach for amazing ocean views our room was a bit of an incline to walk up to the nightly buffet/entertainment, it was OK for us having no mobility issues. Entire resort was clean including the grounds, gardens and public spaces. Food was delicious, plentiful and well prepared. We only did 1 a la carte as you had to line up each morning to request a seating. 2 small pools did not really allow for a quiet area. The activity pool also housed the swim up bar and was full of children most days and was not really an ideal set up for smaller kids in my opinion. The quiet pool was never really quiet either as it held the overflow of kids :). If a quiet relaxing vacation is on your agenda this may not be the resort for you,although for the most part evenings after the nightly entertainment were mostly quiet. Service was top notch throughout the resort! Kudos to all the amazing and hard working staff!!

Grounds were very well maintained. Hotel room was always kept clean. Staff always pleasant and willing to accommodate. Food was good something for everyone good variety. Would stay there again for sure.

Beautiful garden with Cenote like jungle holes right in there ( one just at the entrance to the parking lot, another behind the Theatre). Beautiful beach with a view of Cozumel Island in a distance. Nice clean pool, comfortable rooms in a cabana like setting ( not a 15 story building!!) Close to downtown Playa Carmen and ferry. Outstanding friendly staff, delicious food offered at the buffet all day long ( we haven’t been to a la carte restaurant- sign in line was too long). We took a tour to Chichtzen Itza ($150 a person from TransAt representative at the hotel- highly recommended, and went to Cozumel on our own- taxi $10 one way + $ 35/ person for return ferry. PlayaCar feels very safe but because of its hightened security ( entrance gates, police and military presence ) we’ve got a (perhaps misleading feeling) that anywhere outside is not safe! We have had a very nice time!

Great Resort ! in general , very long and fantastic beach , warm clear water and exciting waves , no algae on beach sand. Food repetitive but passable. rooms are very small , no elbow room. Reception desk is competant , wifi in room is appreciated. Overall ,if you want sun and beach this is the place. Tout etait tres bien sauf la chambre ,le climatisateur ne fait pas l'evaporation de l'humidite, l'air est froid mais humide ,les draps et le matelas tres inconfortable ,pour cette raison je ne retournerais pas a cet hotel .Je tiens a remercier Maria Cupul notre femme de chambre , aussi le responsable du buffet pour sa bonne gestion ,et notre serveur Bernardo Bernal ,lui et ses collegues ,souriant rapide a repondre serviable .Je salut mes rencontres Pierre et Lise ,Leo et monsieur Chips , et Sonia et Gaetan .

The hotel was small,but everything was close by. But was surprised we had to pay an environmental tax. Think it was 28 pesos per night. The location was great it was a 20 minute walk into 5th Ave Playa downtown. By taxi it was. 5 minute drive and $13 US$. The rooms were small either 1 king bed ,or 2 double beds, but very clean,and the beds were very comfortable. You also got coffee, beer, soft drinks, water in your room every day.They had 2 pools, one had a swim up bar, and activities, the other one was a bit quieter. They were separated by the beach restaurant. But both were just steps to the beach which was lovely. Drink service was available when sitting at the pool, or the beach. The staff were lovely,and would help you if they could. The food was just okay! The best was lunch down at the pool area. Breakfast and dinner were okay, not great. But you won’t starve. Not many staff members spoke English! If you like small resorts this was great.

great layout everything close by amazing beach close to town food was average but filling and tasty - still put on some pounds while there ( stay with the buffets) - Asian food very disappointing. alcoholic beverages flowing but the quality of alcohol left wanting- perfect place for adults, or families or friends - we had a blast the people phenomenal - could smile even when they knew we were not satisfied BUT: Maintenance of property - the infrastructure must be aging - externally beautiful, no complaints of the landscaping, grounds, beaches, pool areas etc, updated rooms, but the mechanics - no A/C for many of us until a few days in (worked really well then), hot water and water pressure issues and the women's bathroom in the front lobby should be the biggest embarrassment to the hotel - did not work when we arrivedand did not work when we left. PLEASE, Allegro, make us all proud and get these things fixed (even if it is just the washroom) because otherwise it is the perfect hotel. spoiler alert: no matter what, the trip was loved by all..........................

The front desk staff was horrible. They gave me a room that was already occupied and then gave me a downgrade on the room I had purchased, and lied about it. No hot water and one day no water at all. The food was good and the entertainment staff was excellent. Place needs some serious attention.

We were disappointed with the fact that the air conditioning did not work properly in quite a few rooms. No hot water for showers most of the week. No water at all one day , toilets didn’t flush…in all public washrooms most toilets were broken or non flushing. Food was good. A la carte restaurants were impossible to reserve. Each room had to line up at 10am to reserve and could not be done in advance. They couldn’t accommodate most people.

No hot water 3.5 days told me to go to buffet and get hot water for my 1 year old daughter to have a shower horrible room at first (3 flights of stairs to carry my baby and stroller up multiple times per day) then got switched to another room the next day spend almost two full days dealing with that at the lobby and the bed was dirty so the maid had to change the bedding Ants in room Pool was filthy film/dirt/hair floating Same food everyday They wanted to charge us $45 for cleaning sheets because I needed it changed at night due to a small accident (pee) on sheet from my 1 year old. We moved in with dirty sheets and didn’t change our sheets for the whole week. So they said because we had no hot water for 3.5 DAYS they would “let it go” No lights walking back to lobby when leaving. It had rained, ground was VERY slippery and it was pitch black out 5:30am we had to leave and not one single light on. Luggage weigher is only pasos when I offered $1 usd he said no only pasos for pasos so couldn’t weigh our luggage before leaving. Point blank they have ZERO customer service and do not have a family/Canadian/us friendly hotel. We will never return or recommend anyone to go here EVER.

Hotel grounds are immaculate, very lush and well maintained. Rooms are clean, and our request were taken care of. No problem food wise...if I had any downside opinions, it would be...no after hours snack bar & coffee service.

Would not go back. Tried to book another hotel but no luck. We asked to move to another hotel but they would not help us. Everything was a hassle. Rooms were dismal. AC worked intermently and very very loud. Bathroom smelled like sewer. My daughter got sick. No room service. Food just ok. Al a carte was only available to a small number of people. Had to stand in a long line to try and book. We had no luck. No water activities. Lobby very tired. Beach was beautiful.

This is a well maintained resort in a great location. Food was decent and variety was fair. Just wish there was a coffee bar. Rooms/bathrooms are on the smaller side but that's okay as you don't spend too much time in them. The beach area is great with beautiful white sand and all kinds of water activities if you choose.

We had no expectations, as we read a lot of nasty reviews before going to Allegro Playacar. We were pleasantly surprised when we got there. The resort itself is perfect, clean, very green, not too big, and cozy with an amazing beach. Rooms were ok, however, AC did stop working on day 10, but we didn't do anything about it as the weather cooled off and we only had to stay 3 more nights. I have to say, that the food was not very good. Only a hand full of things to choose from. They also had no butter for breakfast and have not seen even once mangoes or bananas, as I was looking forward to the fruits on this trip. No Seafood. We didn't really care, as the Playa Del Carmen is only a 4 min ride from the hotel with a ton of restaurant choices. We ended up eating there every night. We wish there was no entertainment near the beach, as it was super loud and annoying, they would have been better off playing just music or nothing. If you ask me if you should book it, I would say yes. We loved everything, after all, you are there for the Beach, everything else you can get in Playa Del Carmen or at the Plazza next to the Hotel.

As nice and clean pools, grounds, beaches are, the rooms, dining, and evening entertainment still need more work to be done. Television sets and phones, not in a good functioning state. Most people are accommodating and friendly at the resort. Grateful for all the assistance whit fixing things, not in order ie water leaking from the bathroom above, air conditioning, and tv.

Lovely resort, well kept grounds, good food and excellent staff. The room was modern and fresh and the beds very comfortable. Restocking the water, coffee and fridge were a bit inconsistent. If someone had mobility issues they may find the stairs to the upper units and the walk down to the beach a bit of a challenge - slight slope heading toward the pools and beach. Would certainly travel back to the Allegro.

Hotel is well taken care of, grounds are nice. It is a manageable size, the walk from lobby to beach is only a few minutes. Staff was, for the most part, friendly and helpful. Drink service by the pool was excellent. Now the negatives: main bar does not start serving alcohol until 11am and pool bar not until NOON. I have traveled extensively, 10 times to Mexico and have never heard of such a thing. I love my vodka/orange juice in the morning so this was a big let down and the Transat website is incorrect in stating that service begins at 10am. This will be a big deterrent for people, so I can't see it staying in place long. The other big drawback, is the noise. If you are a light sleeper and get stuck near the disco, basketball courts or a rude neighbour, good luck getting any sleep. Someone felt the need to play basketball every morning at 730am, and it sounded like they were dribbling in our room. I was constantly checking if the windows were open because the noise was crazy. If someone walked by, you could hear every word of their conversation even if they were speaking quietly. We were in the 27 block of rooms, and it was a good location as far as getting everywhere, but being by the court was not worth it. Rooms were nice, small beds. They called it a queen but there is no way. Beach is gorgeous, beautiful water and sand. Food was good, only complaint is they only had bacon 1 morning! There is a pizza shack by the pools, it was nice to just grab a quick slice. Have some fries with the nacho cheese sauce and one of the pulled meats on top, delicious! We got this resort on a selloff for quite cheap so we were happy with our trip. They need to change the bar hours though! We were thirsty!

Great location and of the best beaches we have ever been to. The hotel is small (which was one of the reasons why we chose it), plenty of chairs and space near beach and pools. Beach and sea are amazing. Rooms are small, but have all necessary amenities (coffee-maker, vanity mirror, iron) and are clean. Shower roof was leaking when it rained. Food was tasty and well-cooked. Not a lot of variety though. The grounds are clean, beautiful and well-maintained. Service was good most of the time. Overall, we would consider this hotel for our next vacations.

Grounds well kept, someone always sweeping and trimming plants and trees. Rooms very small but clean.Air conditioning worked well. We were in room 5212, great location close to pool and beach but unfortunately some very loud people out at pool till 3-4 am screaming and swearing which was a little frustrating as I had two children with me. Probably should have complained but my own fault I hate being that person. Food was overall great could use some more kid friendly options as they were not into slot of it, I really enjoyed the sushi that was offered the one night. The entertainment staff were amazing and so great with the kids. Pool foam party in Saturday was awesome!!!! Beach was a bit full of seaweed a couple days but was always being raked up and resort has no control over that sort of thing so didn’t bother me. A lot of lizards around resort kids enjoyed that. The drive from the airport to the resort was a bit long but Overall I would return:) had a great time and perfect weather!

Staff was very friendly rooms very small but clean lunch and breakfast were the best meal of the day. Needed better variety for dinner. Beach was amazing the value for the money was good.also needed some work on the evening entertainment. Traveled with children and all the staff treated them like they were kings and queens couldn’t ask for more.

We just returned from our 3rd trip to Allegro Playacar this year for 7 nights. Amazing great resort...people very friendly. Not too much traffic which made my vacation a treat..very relaxing. The beach was awesome...great white sand and not overcrowded. washrooms... Nice clean rooms, wonderful staff.The pools are always clean as are the beautiful grounds. The buffet was excellent with a different experience each night..food excellent although more seafood would have been appreciated. Special thanks to Freddy and Fidel who went out of their way to make our buffet dinners fun, enjoyable and memorable. The entertainment crew always has something going on to keep you from getting bored. The workers at all the restaurants will give you superb attention, love it! The front desk made our check-in and check-out a smooth operation and we do not have anything to complaint about. This was our 3th time at this resort, we will definitely return in the future but we will also visit other resorts in the Playacar area. Until the next time

Beautiful, clean, quiet, resort. Beach is lovely. Lots of good food. Lovely atmosphere. If you're looking for a relaxing vacation this is the place. Also has a good location that is within easy distance to do day trip to see ruins at Tulum and Coba.

We really appreciated the smaller size and very personable staff at Allegro Playacar. Everything is convenient , the grounds are immaculate and very beautiful. The beach is first class lined with palm trees never a problem finding a lounger unlike so many resorts. It is especially convenient for taking tours or just getting a cab into 5th Ave.,Playa del Carmen. Our second visit was every bit as enjoyable as the first.

The grounds, rooms were very clean. Food was good. Management needs improvement for front desk. There was a mix up regarding our rooms. You put in a request in for building 57, we could not have them unless we paid for upgrade of 300. We could not afford that.You do not get want you request. The only availability was 38, Michele and Mahlon got the front upper level but we were behind them looking at another building. It was the only one available. We arrived at 11 and they told us our room would be available until 3. Come 3 o'clock, they wasn't available. My husband was pretty mad because we were waiting to long.He demanded to go somewhere else but air transit was not there, so we had to wait. It should not take 4 hrs. to get our room. He demaned to see the manager but it was nothing they could do. It was very hot and we were tired. I had a headache and not feeling good. It was 4 o'clock before we received the key. At that time we would take anything. The next they tried to push a membership on us. Not a good thing. We would not go back to that resort. There was a big misunderstanding with us and the rep. for barcello. They told us they would like to talk to us over breakfast but didn't relize they were taking us for ride and wanted to show us the Occeantile Xcarlet. Nice resort but not interested. We misunderstood them on wed., we thought we were having breakfast on the resort. We asked us to take s back, to be with our friends. If they would have left us on the resort, we would have set down and listen. They were very pushy. The maids were good, kept the clean. Pool was clean, beach was good but a lot of seaweed. They cleaning it all the time. Food was good, you did not go hungry. Food available all the time. The location was good, close to playa del carmon. Close to town The bar tenders were good and entertainment.

This resort is very clean: nicely laid out..grounds and buildings, recently renovated, very good food and liquor served up by a kind, caring and knowledgeable staff. It's location close to town is a plus. The beach is superb. I decided to attend a time share promotion connected to the hotel. This was entirely my decision, and I was fully aware or what was involved...no purchase made. I would highly recommend this hotel for all the reasons mentioned above. Mike Brady

Hotel newly renovated rooms the same and the grounds were beautiful staff werr very pleasant. Close to shopping 5th Avenue is a must to see,lots to do.Beautiful sandy beach. Great entertainment very night. A GOOD variety of food.

Excellent resort. Highly recommended. Friendly staff and excellent food. Very clean. Will recommend this resort to our friends and family. Entertainment staff is great. They keep you entertained during the day an in the evening. A very safe and secure place. Rooms are nice.

This was our second time at this resort. They did a great job on the renovations. Check in was quick and Lucy spoke good English. We had a room on the second floor with an ocean view. The king sized bed was very comfortable and the room kept clean. The grounds are very nice and it's easy to get around as it is a smaller resort. The staff were amazing especially Nestor, Humberto, Rafael and Fernando. We were treated exceptionally well and most spoke good English. The food was very good and drinks not watered down. It's a short walk to PDC which is great. We will be returning again for sure.

I would only recommend this hotel if you are on a travel budget. I didnt like being harassed by staff every day in lobby to look at time shares. We had to sneak by the staff at times just to get away from them.Great location in playacar..safe walking distance to plays del carmen...beautiful beach

We booked this hotel strictly on price and the fact it is in the Playacar area of Playa del Carmen. Our main reason for going to Mexico in August was to see the whale sharks which are in the area at this time of year. Because of the expense of this excursion we decided on a budget friendly resort. We have stayed at the Allegro in Cozumel in the past and expected that it would be a similar experience, which it was. The resort is small so there are no long walks to get to any of the pools, restaurants, bars or the beach. The rooms are small but clean and the resort itself is clean with nice gardens. The location is a 15 minute walk to 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen as well as being on one of the nicest stretch of beach in the Riviera Maya, in my opinion. Overall the food was fine. Not terrific but certainly plenty of choices. The worst part I found was that they attach a "shark " to you at check in that will hound you to visit their location next door to the resort that is their premier resort. They want you to become a loyalty member, at a price, to receive future benefits as a member. Annoying as hell. All in all a decent resort for the money

I cannot say enough about this resort!! The rooms were all kept the staff was fantastic! The resort was fulnyet still never Waite din line. The staff knew our names without having to tip excessively even though they deserved it. The beach is absolutely top notch. Who cares if there is not a dozen al la cate restaurants. The buffet has tonnes of variety throughout the week and was very tasty. If you are hesitating on this resort...DON’T Bike it. You won’t be disappointed. I’ve been to 6 resorts of varying ‘star ratings’ ranging from 3 through 5+ along the riviera maya and Cozumel. Allegro Playacar has been my hands down favorite to date. The team at ProDive are spectacular... don’t dive with anyone else...

The grounds were very well maintained. Plants looked healthy, grass watered. Our hotel room was also very clean and the staff that cleaned were very friendly. We appreciated the two different pools. At times one would be used for games and party so it was nice to have the option of a quiet swim. The buffet had a good selection but lacked consistent hot temperatures. We noticed with the exception of the Mexican reserved dinner (beef tenderloin) that meat tended to be on the chewy side. Themed shows were good.

The resort was kept very clean, the rooms could do with a bit of repair. Our room for the first 4 nights had weak Air Conditioning and wouldn't go below 24 degrees, after 2 days of the resort telling us it was going to be fixed, they finally moved us. Room #2 was very well Air Conditioned but had water issues, the shower stall leaked(not a big deal it had tiled floors). But after it rained the floor in the living room had puddles from the roof leaking. The food was adequate, the reservations for the Ala carte Restaurants were not very accommodating(had to be booked no more then day before). Didn't have any meals this way. All the waiting staff and cleaners were very helpful and friendly. We requested a late check out because of a late flight time and were told there were no vacancies and that we were welcome to wait in the lobby for 6 hours , but were welcome to use the facilties. It rained so we sat in the lobby for 6 hours, waiting to go to the airport. Over all good value for what we paid. Would try a different place next time..

This resort is pristine! The rooms, grounds, pools, restaurants, etc are impeccably clean and exceptionally well kept. Allegro Playacar is a small resort which allows you the opportunity to get to know the staff and meet many returning visitors. The large pool abuts the beach and the beach is beautiful! It's very long and great for walking... 20 min to Town. Always something to do if you want activity. Loved the hammock on the balcony after a day on the beach and the gardens by our unit and throughout resort were breathtaking. We will be back :)

Thanks Debbie for suggesting the Allegro Playacar. Beautiful setting, first class resort, great staff. We would highly recommend it . Great beach, close to the Playacar Plaza and a $7 cab ride to 5th.Ave. Took one tour to Talum/Coba, cenote swim and Mayan village booked thru Air Transat rep. really first class. Thanks again.

First time at an all inclusive and we weren't disappointed! Enjoyed the food, drinks, friendly staff, clean rooms but especially all the activities. Never pressured to join in but they were so much fun. Especially enjoyed beach volleyball and the pool foam party!

Great activities, food was good, beach amazing! Roofs did leak in heavy rains (always happened at night) but staff cleaned up next day. Clean rooms, friredly staff. Ask for the alcohol you want in drinks or you get house brand, bartenders very accomodating. We would return.

Playa del Carmen is a great place to vacation the beach is beautiful and its a 20 min. walk to town. The resort was very clean and the staff friendly. The food was okay. Missing some Espresso machines so that people who dont drink alcohol can enjoy a latte etc.

We stayed at this resort at the beginning of June. The weather was extremely hot and humid and we had some heavy rainfall during the week. The resort is on a beautiful stretch of the beach and close enough to walk into Playa del Carmen (25 minutes). The grounds of the resort is very beautiful and tropical. Many birds can be seen and heard. The thatched roofs of the "bungalows" were unique and lends to the tropical feel but were not very practical since some of the roofs leaked during the heavy rainfall including the unit we stayed in. We were moved to another unit but the bedding configuration was not what we initially had and requested so this meant another room changed 2 days later. Miscommunication from the front desk was the cause of the delay which was inconvenient for us to live out of our suitcases for 2 days. The standard rooms were on the small side with no dresser and only 2 small shelves in the closet for your clothes. There was a safe for valuables. The renovated glass enclosed shower gave good water pressure and air conditioner worked well. Rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Overall the staff were friendly and courteous, there were various activities by the main pool or on the beach during the day. There were stretching on the beach to cooking shows to bingo. The majority of the activities were family oriented. It seems that most guests were Spanish speaking the week we were there. Lots of beach lounger at the 2 pools and on the beach. No problems with towel exchanges. Initially we found the food at the buffet was below our expectations mainly because of the mass production and having to keep the food warm as the dinner and lunch opening hours were very generous, example lunch was available from noon to four p.m. however we always found items to try and and enjoy. We did not encounter any stomach problems but we avoided the salads but enjoyed all the various delicious fruits served. The Mexican and Italian a la carte restaurants meals were very good although the menu descriptions of the foods differed somewhat from what we actually received. Very good service at the buffets. Overall we had a relaxing enjoyable week at the Allegro Playacar.

The hotel needs upgrading. The rooms are very small and the bathroom is sub standard with old toilet and shower. The room looked over the sink and no one fixed it and you could not open a window. The food was ok but not enough variety. There was a buffet and one a la carte and nothing special about either. A 4 star has at least 3 or 4 a la carte options. Buffet at beach was good and staff very friendly

We enjoyed the resort, however the both pools were very cold. The lobby area and all areas of the resort were kept very clean and I like the fact they were using plastic cups that could be re-washed not thrown away. I must admit the room was just OK as on the departure they stated it was a premimun room I would certainly not have paid any extra. Staff very friendly and helpful, Maria our housekeep could not do enough!

My partner and I just returned from an enjoyable week at the Allegro Playacar Beach Resort Hotel. The resort has well-cared for lawns, palm trees, and gardens. There are two crystal clear pools and a beautiful white sand beach. The accommodations are in two-story octoplexes with thatched roofs. The rooms are bright and clean. The resort truly has the appearance of a Mexican paradise. In addition, its smaller size engendered a family atmosphere among the guests and staff. The food is very good, but it lacked the variety I would like. There were two Mexican buffets, a Mexican à la carte restaurant, a pizza kitchen, and a hamburger barbecue. There was also an Italian à la carte restaurant, but it was difficult to get reservations. The restaurant servers and bar staff are very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They seem to enjoy serving and getting to know the guests. Definitely, the resort is an incredible value, a hidden gem in Playacar. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy an excellent Mexican holiday.

Thanks to all the great reviews I read before our trip I felt I got exactly what I expected. The small no frills of this resort make it feel way more tropical than the pizzaz of the palace next door. Its the same Ocean, same sun and if you just love getting away like the 4 of us girls do you will love it. The pool and beach are fabulous and I would go back for those alone. The swim up bar is so nicely situated still in the sun with the view of the ocean or to enjoy your drink whilst watching the lovely animation team dance and entertain. The food is typical basic all inclusive but we had no issues and always found something. I really get tired of food complainers, I mean really? If you want gourmet you can have it anytime at home at many fine dining choices. We go south for sun and fun. The food simply fuels us. Both restaurants are a nice relaxing change from the buffet and we enjoyed them, Service was excellent and my birthday was acknowledged with cake and a song. very nice. Drinks were fabulous. made any way you like it, slushy, shaken, very tasty margueritas and tequila sunrise. If you prefer Bacardi over their basic rum theres no issue.. The grounds are clean and nice and the short walk anywhere is super convenient. The rooms is the only reason this resort loses a star as they are small and dated but it is no issue to me as they were clean and maid service was excellent. I also found the beds very comfortable. I finally went to coco bongo and although it was unique to see I would never do it again.. Its very overwhelming and crowded. If you are over 40 like me then make sure you are a music lover and can handle being packed in there. Lastly another best about this resort as mentioned in many reviews is the staff. They are all lovely but our standouts were ANDERSON who is an absolute pleasure and his personality with all guests young and old made our vacation. BELISARIO at the Amber bar thank you for your smile and laugh, it was our pleasure to have met you. FIDEL and JORJE from the restaurants and late night snack bar, hard working and always smiling. Lastly the lovely NESTER who remembered our names and our drinks everyday and early evening at the beach bar.. Our girls vacation was a memorable one and we would all return to this hotel in a heartbeat. My only wishes for guest improvement would be some entertainment , piano or singer up in the lobby bar after dinner for those of us that don't stay up for the disco as it does seem to be very quiet at night. Also some nacho chips with all the fixings for late night snack as opposed to having to have meat tacos . Go and enjoy

The resort is very clean and there is so much to do! The food was amazing ever night and it always changes so it is not repetitive. The shows were fun and very entertaining and people were very friendly! Overall, very satisfying because the beach was right in front and it was amazing!

Very good 3 star, clean and good food. The service was excellent , in the heat of the day still with a smile while caring for many guests. Well done. 30 minute walk to shopping and entertainment, wait for a cloudy day otherwise you will be uncomfortable in the heat.

Great Location, Perfect Beach, good food, Manager was not accomodating at all. Travelling with another relative, put them three buildings away from us, ridiculous!! and I had highly recommended this resort as I had been twice before. will NOT go back now. This trip ruined it for me. People on my bus got the room next to me, why not my relative? Seriously ridiculous, will not be going back. Skipped cleaning my room 2 days, never replenished my mini fridge.

Great resort...people very friendly. Not too much traffic which made my vacation a treat..very relaxing. The beach was awesome...great white sand and not overcrowded. The pool area immaculate including washrooms...staff very friendly! The buffet was excellent with a different experience each nite..food excellent although more seafood would have been appreciated. Special thanks to Freddy and Fidel who went out of their way to make our buffet dinners fun, enjoyable and memorable. I found the rooms to be outdated and a bit musty and moldy but the cleaning staff were excellent each day in the upkeep of them. An overall great experience.

Amazing resort. Everything was awesome from the food to the staff. Hard working people made our vacation one to remember. They provide excellent entertainment at the pool, beach and evening stage. The Bar Staff are also exceptional. They are quick to remember what you like. The beach was gorgeous, very clean. The rooms are compact and there is no dresser. There are shelves to store your clothing which was adequate. Beds are hard, but with a topper it was fine. Not every minute of every day is perfect but all in all there is nothing worth complaining about. Your time is what you make of it. Our room was upstairs with a thatched roof. This means you are going to hear the birds in the morning and they can be loud. It is only a 20 minute walk to town or 3 - 4 minutes the other way to the Playacar mall. Over the 2 weeks we walked to 5th av. 5 times. We enjoyed the evening in town over the day trips (more relaxed and lot's of entertainment) Shopping was better just off 5th av. as well as the food. I recommend you seek out Los Aguachiles restaurant on Calle 34 between 5th and 1st on the left side. They served the best seafood taco's I have ever had and at the best price.

Nice clean rooms, wonderful staff.The pools are always clean as are the beautiful grounds. The food is great, lots of selection in the buffet and the Mexican and Italian restaurants provide superb food and service

Hotel has great staff, it is an older hotel so if you can't handle all the amenities a older hotel can offer you will not have fun. Small and Peaceful. Very central on playacar. Food was good is you are ok with new things. Hard for my child to find anything acceptable to eat.

Rooms were dated but ok, upper units had high ceilings, nice size balcony. Food average at best, greasy, not much choice, we both got sick. Wi fi @ $10 a day Viva Azteca next door is a way better option, friends stayed overthere.

Nov 13 at 7:25 PM Diane, firstly thank you so much for the vacation package, both my wife and I really enjoyed getting away for the week. You may be aware that the flight leaving Vancouver was delayed from 7:50 am to 1:00 pm and then again to 1:25 pm and did not actually get off the ground until well after 2:00 pm making it a total delay of more than 6 hours. I did check on the flight schedule just before we left the hotel and was informed the flight was on time (at 4:00 am). We received an email from Trip Case around 4:30 am advising us that our flight has been delayed but unfortunately we had already left the hotel and did not get the email until quite some time later. We arrived at the resort around 11:30 pm and was quite disappointed that our first day of vacation was spent either in the airport or on the plane. Disappointing also was the fact that Air Transat did not appear overly concerned about our predicament offering little apology and a measly $15 coupon for breakfast. They obviously did not care that we would be either in the airport or on the plane for many hours and lunch and dinner would not be forthcoming unless we made our own plans to purchase meals and take them on the plane. I suggest this is not good customer relations and most if not all of the passengers expressed more than disappointment in the process. On the positive side the resort, while small, was quite nice. First night it looked not so good but the next couple of days it kind of grew on us and we had a good time. We especially liked the unique design of the rooms, they really are quite Mexican not like others that do not have palapas and have modern style designs. The meals were rather sub par being the same food almost each day. The best thing about the resort was the staff, they were very friendly, helpful and really shined when it came to service. We cannot say enough about the attitude of the staff. While there we ran into a group of travel agents who were viewing several resorts in the area and those that I talked with agreed that this resort should be rated somewhere between a 2 and 3 star. While the staff make every effort to keep up with the repairs it is obvious that the buildings are simply quite old and need more than a face lift. Overall we liked the resort, the proximity to town, and the ambiance. Without the 5 star service this would not be a resort I would like to return to. However the service is definitely one of their major strengths. Again thanks for the trip, and we look forward to having our name drawn again and perhaps winning a trip to Cuba. All the best, Bill

The grounds are great the staff are very friendly, I really enjoyed my stay there and I do plan on going back again. Only had one issue with the wifi at the resort other then that had a fantastic time.

We just got back yesterday and stayed for 8 days/7 nights. Check in was fast and easy and they were very welcoming. Our room was nice and had an exceptional view(best anywhere) as we were pretty much right on the beach. The room was a little hot at times as we were on the second floor and had a thatched roof. It could use some updating but we don't spend much time in the room anyways. The beach was amazing and never had a problem finding shade. The buffet was very good with a good selection of food. The pool bar/snack bar was also very good with great hamburgers. The Mexican a la cart was very good but the Italian was better. We had the romantic lobster dinner on the beach with champagne which was excellent. We never had a problem being ignored like some reviewers had reported but we do tip. We did go to the vacation club sales pitch but the marketing manager Jose Luis made it worth our while. He was very nice. All in all it was a great trip and would have no problem going back in the future.

Really nice resort, small and very clean. Food was good, not too much variation for vegetarian. Loved the guacamole and salsa. The beach is sooo nice , you can walk for hours, enjoyed going to the very end for a Yoga session. 20 minutes walked to the Fifth Avenue, lots of shopping there. Enjoyed the ambiance and the VIP treatment. Staff is very pleasant. I recommend this resort.
