Loved this place
We really enjoyed this place!!! The food and service and location was amazing. If you want a beach, they don’t have much of one at the resort, but we knew that going in. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone who asks.

Amazing Resort
This hotel was awesome! Very clean, the best customer service and the food was delicious. There isn’t really a beach in the property. However, there is a public beach beside it. I prefer the pool and loved it. Everyday there were activities going on at the pool and every night there was entertainment. The staff were amazing. Very helpful and friendly. It was very close to the markets and bars etc. We were able to walk around each night with no worries.

Not all it’s cracked up to be
We did enjoy our stay but it was not the same as it was 2 yrs ago The food in the buffet was recycled every single day from dinner to breakfast from breakfast to lunch and lunch to dinner Same crap every day . The only restaurant we went to was Brasso steak house The steak was good but way under cooked and had to send it back As for smokers there is no designated area on the street in front of hotel no chairs or benches and no ashtrays They made us feel like criminals I found the staff was not as welcoming as our previous time except for Lydia at the coffee shop still amazing lady Wait staff was horrible stacks of plates before they would pick it up and we were great tippers , and the beach sucks If you just want to lay on a cot the water was rocky and slimy I would recommend going else where When our flight got delayed they said have a nice day but we have no room for you they need to take a lesson from the staff and cooks at the moon palace where Sunwing sent us because of a 2 day delay , they sure do know how to cook and treat people, the wait staff would bend over backwards for you

Party Central
Great hotel if you don’t want ocean beach to lay on and are into social gatherings and like to party. Very nice staff, very clean and spacious junior suite room, food is average, but again, there was no ocean/beach front to lay on - you only have the pool. The advertising of this resort is a lie.

19th Time
Great staff as always, reason we keep returning. Exceptionally clean throughout. Food better than before. Almost no beach now, Music at the pool is usually for 18-20 age group, very few there. Background music in the lobby bar is the same beat 24 seven? BIGGEST PROBLEM Outside pool bar hours 11am - 07pm only. Forced to be in the loud boom boom lobby bar at night with loud shows, drunk loud people. Have been lobbying for years to keep the pool bar open until 11 pm (like it used to be ) no such luck ??? Many people upset at that, most want to be outside on vacation not stuck inside with the afore mentioned situation. Will not return Will we return, probably, only because we have known a lot of the staff for 17 years.

Great Place
We stayed for 10 days at the beginning of March. The location is excellent. One block from 5th avenue. The resort was clean, staff was friendly, food was excellent whether you went to the a la carte or buffet, and the rooms were spacious. We had no problem booking a la carte restaurants. We went to the restaurants 6 out of the 10 nights. One night we did the romantic lobster dinner. Highly recommend to pick the gazebo option. We went at 6:30 which was a perfect time to watch the sun go down. There are only a few downfalls to this resort. One is there isn't much of a beach and you can't swim in front of the resort because of the rock. If you walk one minute down the beach there is a nice swimmable area. There are no umbrellas at the beach so no shade if you are sitting in loungers unless you can somehow chase the shade under a tree, which are few. The pool area isn't the best. One side of the pool is filled with very crowded lounge chairs and the other half of the pool has cabanas that you have to rent at a costly daily fee. Tip - the cabanas on the beach that don't have a reserved number on them are first come. No charge.

Great experience
The resort was very clean and maintained. Excellent service. Very close to 5th Avenue and other attractions. Food was good overall. The resort is an ideal size so walking to the rooms are nearby. Would recommend. The resort is almost on the beach, but is quite rough so I would not recommend swimming.

Really nice resort!
First time in Playa Del Carmen, and first time at Wyndham Alltra. Resort is a boutique hotel with really nice amenities. Only 3 specialty restaurants, but can have dinner every night at these restaurants. Most resorts only let you book 3 nights with specialty restaurants. Pool is really nice, but have to wake up early to get sun beds. Beach is rocky. Beach at the north end of resort is nicer, but still rocky. Walked a few steps to Hilton next door or Grand Hyatt for sandy Beach and free of Seaweed. Night entertainment is average. All employees are friendly and willing to help. Beach towels were not available one afternoon.

Our favourite for a reason
Good food, friendly staff, great service, great location. One of our favourite destinations for all these reasons The only glitch was that our room was not available upon arrival. They gave us a one night upgrade -which was ready and waiting- and moved us at our convenience. Other than that minor inconvenience, another great stay. We’ll be back.

Adult Only Resort ???
18th time at this resort, ( Gran Porto Real - Panama Jacks ) The staff is amazing, the food up & down, no beach anymore. Junior suits are spacious & lovely. Nice size pool, hot jacuzzi, very nice sushi bar & small pool. Two minute walk to 5th ave, shops & restaurants etc. The outside pool bar 11am - 7pm !!! Adult Only Resort ? The lobby bar at 11am - 11pm !!! Adult Only Resort ? Having to be crammed into the “ inside & often noisy “ lobby bar every night a huge problem for us & not returning friends (30-40) Most people we heard from & talked too want to be outside where you can feel the ocean breeze & mingle. Inside the few tables & chairs are separating everyone. We are always treated & looked after incredibly well. Gracias.

Each year, NEVER disappointed!
This is our third year staying at this resort~ it was Panama Jack’s for the first. Each and every year, the Wyndham Alltra in Playa del Carmen is improved upon, and their standards are impeccable. The beauty of the rooms, the cleanliness of the pools, the delicious cuisine, the little ‘extras’ provided, the entertainment, and the sheer effort to have the highest standards for the guests, is impressive. This is not the best attribute… The staff at the Wyndham Alltra Playa, is absolutely world-class. I have had the honour of travelling to many countries, and have personally worked in high-level hospitality positions. The staff at this resort are the BEST I have ever encountered~ amazingly diligent, hard working and smart, in every single department. I genuinely wish to thank the people that work here the most. YOU make our Dia de los Muertos week sensational. Every year : ) It is perfectly situated also~ two blocks away from Cinco Avenida restaurants, shopping and festivities. Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen is chic boutique, fun and intimate~ I am so thrilled we found you!! My husband and I will see you again in 2024 Si Dios quiere.

Don’t go here!
This resort smalls so bad from all the Rotten seaweed, that washes ashore. You can smell it as soon as you enter the resort. The resort has no beach the swimming pool is small and there is never any chairs and as soon as you arrive, they hit you with timeshares for the Hilton. The bars don’t open and will not serve you until after 11 o’clock. The Buffay is small and has the same food almost every meal. The beach that is accessible is a public beach and always locals bumming and bothering you. Don’t waste your money go somewhere else.

2 Star at best
Standard rooms are so tiny. No windows for natural light other then the shower window in some. There wasn't a place to even put our suitcase. The toilet backed up overflowing sewage all over our room. Desk manager offered to switch out the toilet that would be a 4 hour job or switch to another standard room but it wasn't clean yet so we would have to wait hours for cleaning. I packed all our belongings walking through 2 inches of sewage water. Tears streaming down my face in pure frustration. Management idea of a resolution was a 25 minute massage with the signage of a social media silence disclaimer. I felt this was a huge slap in the face. I wasn't looking for any compensation only for the resort managers to do better for the guest.

Great location!!
Location was amazing and staff was amazing. We got a standard room and it was a little room in a corner, nowhere to put our luggage. If you are going here upgrade your room. Buffet was small and not much options. You need to be up very early to get a chair as there is not enough and people reserve by 6am and door come back down until 10am. There is no beach and the little beach on the north corner is rocky. So if you love beach then this is not the place for you. Location was the best part, walked around 5th Avenue every night. I would not go back but it may be good for someone else.

Wyndham Alltra Playa Del Carmen
This hotel is a perfect size with amazing staff! Very close to 5th Avenue for any shopping needs. The food is abundant and always fresh. If you would like something different and can't find it in the ample buffet just ask the chef & he/she will try their best to accomodate your request. The only complaint I would mention is the lack of lounge chairs around the pools. It's a race every morning to get chairs. We even witnessed two fights when some guests tried to take loungers that were already in use! Overall, I would recommend this resort if you don't mind the lack of beach!

Not recommended
Although the hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are very clean, it stops there, the food quality at the buffet was terrible,, only restaurant worth going too was the mexican restaurant. Steak house was not that great. Alcohol at the resort started at 11:00 am and would stop serving at 11:00 pm. Only way you could get food was room service after 10:00 pm that's their idea of 24 hours for food. The beach they advertise on their pictures is false...its washed away behind the hotel. Defiantly not worth the money, many other resorts i'm sure offer a lot more for the money.

Great Resort
I love the coffee shop it was amazing all of us loved it . Buffet was great, amix of Mexican food as well as international. The most amazing thing was the service. Every single staff member was amazing. I had a junior suite , it was great however at night I could hear everything from the outside so I did not like that too much. Also, the entertainment team will only play music in English which I was okay with but I would’ve love to have more Latin music sin I was in Mexico. The location of the hotel is good, is right on 5th avenue, so you can walk at night or anytime.

I had the pleasure of speaking to O'Neil Graham who tremendously helped me out a lot to travel to Mexico by myself for the first time. He was a life saver and guided me through simple action steps on what to do since I missed my flight. Prior to this I was on the phone all day with another airlines/agents and it was such a struggle to communicate with them and they were of no help in regards to my situation. Thank you so much O'Neil Graham and I would recommend booking with him. I had so much fun staying at Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen and it was very memorable!

Disappointing expectations
The biggest disappointment is the absence of the beach, which you only realize when you get there, because the pictures on the website shows beautiful stretch of beach, but in reality there is no beach. The next disappointment is the smell from the seaweed.Third disappointment is long drive with multiple stops from and to the resort/airport.The next disappointment is the size of the place,it is advertised as a resort, but In reality it is not a size of resort, but a hotel.

Phenomenal Staff
We enjoyed out stay very much. First of all I would like to say we travel quite a bit and have been to over 10 different resorts in Mexico since 1996. The one thing I would like to say about all the staff that work here they are all 10/10. Of all the places i have been too the staff were the best by far, I can not say enough about them. My favorite above all was Oscar Cach one of the waiters in the buffet, he just goes far and above with his amazing service and great sense of humor. The grounds were nice as I prefer the smaller resorts for getting around as I am a paraplegic in a wheelchair so makes it easier on me. The food in the Buffet was very good in fact probably the best we have had in Mexico. I wasn't crazy about the Italian restaurant as the food was bland they didnt even have fresh garlic in the kitchen just garlic oil. that should tell you everything you need to know right there! We tried the Brazilian steak house one night and again it was just ok but that is because i am used to eating the best meat in the world because i live in Alberta, nothing will touch that. We never tried the Mexican food restaurant. The burgers they cook outside in the little food van on the grounds were very good but sometimes the lines up's would get quite long. Now i did ask for an accessible room and Trip central was nice enough to phone and even confirm it which was great as no other company did that for me before as they always say they can not guarantee an accessible room. As for the accessibility of room I felt was not very accessible at all there was just one tiny grab bar beside the toilet that was up high and at an angle so almost useless. There should of been a lot more grab bars around the toilet I am just lucky that i am still strong enough to move my body around and i took things very slow and planned as it was scary. As for the shower it was a true roll in shower no step or bump which was great but the shower hose attached to the head was almost too short. I am just lucky i bring my own shower bench when i travel so was able to park it real close to the controls. But in all fairness to the resort I didn't complain or tell them and investigate further to see if they had better or "real" accessible rooms. They did have a phone by the toilet which is a must so that part was covered. If you like to party a lot you might not want to stay there as they shut their outside bar down at 11 pm every night and their lobby bar at Midnight. But you are right in Playa Del Carmen so you can go off to some bar or lounge if you wanted too but of course you would have to pay for your food and drinks then! Overall i would give the resort a 9 out of 10 at a minimum because everything was almost perfect for the 10 days we spent there. Food, customer service, smaller resort making it more personal. It was definitely one of the best times we have had in Mexico

2nd year in a row - just as great!
This is our second year in a row going to PJ in Playa Del Carmen and we still love it! The rooms are big and spacious, the beds are so comfy with soft white duvets, the food is amazing and the staff are the best I've had. I've travel extensively throughout the Caribbean and I now consider PJ my go-to resort. The beach is non-existent but once you get over that, the resort is to be completely enjoyed! My husband has some mobility issues and so this resort is the perfect size for getting around. Everything is so close together. Last year, I wrote in advance to the resort and told them of my husband's inability to walk far and they gave us a room right beside the lobby. Wow! This year, they once again gave us one of the designated handicapped rooms at the lobby and it was so appreciated. Everyone worked so hard to make our trip memorable. From Natalie Collura at TripCentral who arranged wheelchairs at both airports, to Luis Nunez at the front desk at Panama Jacks to Julio who got my husband drinks all day at the pool, let me just tell you how grateful we are for all your efforts. This is a friendly, family oriented resort that goes overboard every day to make their guests welcome. I have no complaints whatsoever about this resort.

Well first off let me say what wonderful staff! Every staff member we encountered was just so eager to help you. Just exceptional. The food, again was wonderful! I am a vegetarian and have a severe egg allergy. I was stuffed all week and was able to eat a variety off food. The only time I had to ask them to make something special was when we were to the Brazilian restaurant (because it’s meat) but that was only for a main course. I was able to have a variety of the sides there. The only downfall to this resort is the beach. It’s current state is really unfortunate with a high tide and rocky area. However a short walk over to the next resort on the public beach and it’s beautiful!

Nice not great.
First trip away, started off with a 3 hour delay with no food voucher provided. We were tired and hungry. Went to take a shower and there no hot water. We were told to let the water run for 20 mins first and then it trinkels out! After that, it did get warmer. We were celebrating a 50th BDay so I asked for something special in the room but nothing was done. Unfortunately. Also no drink to greet you when you arrive. But that’s no big deal. The resort staff was very friendly and happy to help. I thought I upgraded to ocean view but found out that I only got ocean view Partial view from the neighbours balcony ( when they weren’t sitting there)! Breakfast was very good at the buffet but the dinner wasn’t great at all. Very cold. The other restaurants were better (Mexican, Brazian and Italian). The burger place was great! You won’t be hungry. The shoreline wasn’t good. Lots of rocks and old sand bags but had nice views. If you want to swim, you have to walk a bit on the beach infront of the other resorts. Even then, they had some rocks and sandbags in the water so you need to be careful. Drinks were good. Tho not much alcohol in them. Bartenders were always happy to serve. The main pool was nice and beautiful that it overlooks the ocean. Sometimes there was a very strong smell of rotten seaweed that really kills the mood. The nice thing is that 5ft Ave shopping strip is just up the road. Very convenient. Lots of security walking around. Pretty safe at the resort. Because of the buffet, shoreline and cold and weak shower, I would say it was a 3.5 Star.

We were always well fed with tasty food choices. It’s all about the guacamole there!!! Activities throughout the day led by a friendly and accommodating staff. We like that it is a smaller resort the staff somehow always remembered our names and if you forgot something in your room it wasn’t a day trip to run back. The grounds and public washroom facilities were always well maintained. The beach is not the best for swimming but a short walk will get you your ocean fill. Panama Jack staff are above all others!
In spite of the loss of the beach front this resort made up for it. The staff are excellent. Regardless of who you were, what you did, how much you tip or even if you didn't YOU were treated like you were someone special. You don't get that everywhere you go. There are so many staff, always bustling around busy busy busy. Yet never too busy to say hello and ask you how you were enjoying yourself. My only complaint is the standard rooms on the inside the hotel - now patio, no windows to outside...not okay for a resort. So happy we were able to upgrade to a junior suite...thanks Panama Jack. Oh yes, the food...I am lucky to have been able to fit in the seat on the plane...excellent!

We recently stayed at Panama Jack in Playa del Carmen and I have to say it was a great vacation. I love this resort, it's just the right size - easy access to the beach and the city. The staff are exceptional always greeting you with a smile and a hello. It was amazing that even if you did not give a tip the service was always the same. Our hostess in the dining room each morning (Feb 24-Mar 3) is one the best I have met, wish I could remember her name. She was always helpful and accommodating. I requested a fried fish one day and she actually got the chef to make it!! I'm truly impress with the standard of service to which your staff adhere. Great job!! My only suggestion for improvement would be the food and that's only because I'm mostly vegetarian. I would have like to see more bean dishes, next time I would request more because I think I would have gotten it. Thank you for a wonderful winter vacation, I will be back

A fabulous property
I will get the one and only "con" out of the way right from the get-go ... The beach is terrible. If you're a beach person, stay away. It's beautiful to look at the water from the beach, but it's not your typical beach. That said, read on.... We went, a group of 16 of us and we were most impressed. The rooms were fantastic! I called in advance to let them know my husband had some mobility issues and they put us in a room on the ground floor which was accessible to all amenities. The food was so good and never repetitive. There were so many places to eat: the buffet was always fresh with many choices, the a la cartes were scrumptious (Mexican and Italian), the poolside grill had nachos and hot cheese, delicious burgers, hot dogs, shrimp, fresh salads, grilled vegetables and so much more. If you want a late night snack, you can go to Jack24 (self-serve) in the lobby and get some kebobs, sandwiches, sweets, soda pop or a rum & coke. You can get the best coffee at the coffee kiosk and delicious donuts! Ice cream cones too! And lastly, if you're really lazy and want to have an early night or a lazy morning on the patio, just call room service!! The rooms are spacious and spotless. The beds very comfy. And the maid service impeccable. The front desk staff will do all they can to make your trip memorable and try so very hard to please. I give this property a 5* because the pools were so great that I never gave the ocean a second thought! And if all of that isn't enough, you're right in the thick of things in Playa Del Carmen. Right outside the front door there are tons of restaurants, shops, markets, street vendors, etc. It's all so fun!!

Not a 4.5 star resort.
This resort needs to tell people that it is under renovation and definitely not ready for a good review or rating. Our problems started on arrival when we informed that the room we had requested was not available until the next day. OK but the room we were given was near the pool and noisy. Why on earth do some of these resorts seem to think everyone staying with them want to listen to music blaring over the PA system all day. Our second room was nice. For most of our stay the main bar above the pool was closed for renovations as was the Brazilian restaurant, the sushi place was also closed for a period. Kids mini golf closed. No hot water for one day. Cigarette butts on our balcony for two days after we changed rooms (we are non smokers). Had to make a complaint to get them cleaned up. So all-in-all we did not think this resort warrants its 4.5 star rating. Many people staying at the same time we were said they would not stay again and that included a couple who have been going to the resort for years

Resort is 2 blocks from 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen.
We were in an ocean front junior suite. It was roomy and we did not hear any noise from the hallway or our neighbours. Everyday the maid made us a new towel sculpture on our king size bed. Staff are key as they will help you regardless of their role. Even the security guard will help adjust the sun umbrella if he is near-by. Every staff member was friendly and eager to serve us. The only drawback is the beach has taken a beating from previous hurricanes. It is small and does not have the same amount of sandy beach as the Hilton across the road. Despite the beach we recommend Panama Jack Resort. It is good value for the price...everyday room service delivered breakfast to our room. At night we ate at the theme dinners but preferred the food , atmosphere and staff at the Italian restaurant. I have already recommended this resort to family and friends.

Beautiful
We stayed during fall break with 3 kids- hotel is beautiful almost all rooms have a beautiful view ,stuff are really helpful, food delicious, location is great you're in downtown so you could walk into the Main Street and enjoy shopping and buy some souvenirs ( it also quite) Italian restorant is fantastic!!!But there is few things that I have to mention there is no really a beach to enjoy... 8 years ago as I've been told they had a beautiful beach but after a storm it's washed away so you have to go to different beaches( all beaches are public in Mexico) .. something that I find inconvenient is location of a family room (yes they got a beautiful ocean view )but under your balcony there is Disco and theater , they have a disco up till 11 p.m. so if you have little kids it's not so comfortable cuz they might not fall asleep in time (I wonder who had such a bad idea to build a family room right beside of theater and the Disco).

Excellent location in Playa del Carmen
Staff were friendly and helpful, food was great, location was perfect being only a block from 5th Avenue. We paid extra to upgrade our suite to partial oceanview which also came with a larger balcony that was covered. There was a lot of seaweed on the beach which we read before we left, but the pool area was great. Only complaint is that we got pressured to go to a sales presentation at The Royal where we were made very uncomfortable by the sales people trying to get us to buy into some vacation plan through Hyatt. Avoid this at all costs, it isn't worth the time or few "perks" that they give you.

The layout of the rooms were fabulous. Large bathrooms and great showers. A bit noisy during the night. The food was delicious and plentiful.. Friendly and helpful waiters and waitresses at every meal. The bar tenders looked after us promptly. I had invited my family to celebrate my 80th and all 7 of us enjoyed our stay.

Amazing staff
We were here with a group of girls at the end of November. I have to say the staff were amazing from the entertainment to the staff in the restaurants. Our room was renovated and very clean. We had an issue with our toilet and they kept sending someone until it was fixed. The food and the restaurants I found were really good. I have issues with certain foods and they made sure all my needs were met. They are renovating right now so we were diverted to differently areas for walking but once we got used to it we were fine. The smell from the epoxy paint was very strong at times and gave me a headache a couple times but can't be helped when renovating. The beach was washed up so we had to go over and swim at the Royale next store. If you love to swim in the ocean and not walk far to do it this is not the place for you. However if you love the pool there was always something going on there and they did their best to keep everyone entertained. Would love to see the hotel when renovations are done. Thanks to staff for making us feel so welcome.

O.K. resort
this hotel was not up to par - a few things advertised as hotel having did not exist. There was only one "a la carte" restaurant - the "il pescatere" an Italian restaurant which was very nice - but the other two were closed "Maria's" and "Health" and under construction. The Brazilian restaurant was NOT "a la carte" but rather more Buffet style - as there were no menus - and the food was not that great. The main buffet "Albatros" was a disappointment as the same food(lunch and dinner) was served everyday, cold and the variety was very limited. There was no self dispensing alcohol bottles in the room (as was advertised) and you could tell where the bottles were at one time as it was now sealed and the wall redone.. The beach was very limited with really no swimming ability in the gulf because of all the algea. I would not recommend letting children play on the beach.

Great resort Gran Porto Resort and Spa
The rooms are spacious and very clean. The hotel is not huge but big enough. The lobby is small but very homey. The people who works there are very nice and help you with any questions you might have.Enrique Vazquez at the restaurant is excellent with the people... he will help, guide you any way he can. If there is a table you like he will always make sure you get the same table. It is not a big beach or a big pool but the workers at the hotel make it work. Always a chair at the pool or towels no need to go early to reserve. The liquor is international and your fridge in the room is always filled. I like this hotel because its small and cosy. You are close to 5th ave. one block away.

Mixed Feelings
Pros: Food/good Beds/ok Room/good Shower/gd pressure Ac/good Pool/good Location/excellent Staff/excellent Room cleaned well Entertainment ok Cons: beach washed away and kinda dirty No variety at snack bar No access to buffet from pool area. Need to be dry and covered to access buffet. No swim up bar at main pool Pool to deep for kids Takes long time to get drinks at poolside but they work hard. It was a nice building. I might return but not soon. Woud try something different next time. Check in was confussing. They did not tell us directly that our room was not ready. They just tried to delay us. If they would have told us we would have to wait 2hours we would have just used bathroom to change and access pool. But they did not for quite some time. So the kids were restless. Once we got an answer we changed and went to pool. Just frustrating.

Perfect getaway
The hotel has a prime location in playa del carmen. You have the ocean at your feet and fifth avenue a quick stroll away. We had a fifth floor room conveniently located near the sushi/ swim up bar. The rooms were nice and for a change, your balcony was a continuous deck overlooking the road. We were initially disappointed by this but really enjoyed it. The hotel is immaculately clean. The 4 restaurants were great; the Brazilian was decent but the Italian and Mexican were fantastic. The buffet never failed to give us many options. The staff were the best I have met to date and we genuinely felt welcomed. The beach front was fantastic, and my only complaint for the whole trip was the ocean was hard to swim in due to large rocks. I was told this was due to a tropical storm that damaged the frontage. It seemed like they were rebuilding the area, bringing sand in at night. Most people hovered in the pool, which we also enjoyed. The spa was great and as a serious athlete the gym was very adequate. I rarely take the time to write these, but as we had such a great time, wanted to share our experience.

Fantastic customer service
Prior to traveling, we requested a king size bed in our Oceanfront suite. We receive the king size bed in a family suite (with bunk beds) and an uncovered balcony. We requested to have our room changed to have a covered balcony. After 2 days, Ana was able to switch us to another room with two double beds with a covered balcony. Room and view from room were great. There are no bathtubs in rooms but otherwise has all the amenities and are very clean. We travelled with 3 other couples. The other couples had oceanview suite and hotel rooms. The suites are double the size of the hotel rooms. The food was good. The daily selection on the buffet was the pretty much the same each day. The customer service was fantastic. They we very accommodating. Oscar Cach was our waiter at the buffet for breakfast and lunch. Every morning he would have our coffees, juices, hash browns, sausage and ketchup brought to the table. One morning, I wasn't feeling well and wasn't planning on coming down for breakfast. I called room service to order ice cream. Room service would not send ice cream until lunch. So I decided to go to the buffet and see if Oscar could get me some ice cream. To my surprise, Oscar was in the process of sending ice cream to my room. What great service!!! I love that you didn't have to make reservations for the a la carte restaurants (except the Italian). The pool is great and there is always lounge chairs available. The beach has large sandbags due to the previous hurricane damage but just a short walk there was a great beach. The location of the resort is fantastic, only 1 block from Fifth Avenue, 15 minutes from the pier to take the Ferry to Cozumel. However on Friday night, you could hear the bass from the music from a bar until 5 am. We could only hear the late night music the one night. One recommendation for the resort is to have a luggage scale so guests can weigh their luggage when leaving.

Great Resort!
We were trying to decide between this and the "Royal" as we wanted to be downtown....I think we made the right choice especially for the cost...the service was fantastic....the food better than average (especially the Italian restaurant)...and our room was gorgeous....our only "nitty" issues were...draft beer and wine not so great...shows were at 8 PM which conflicted with dinner...and....make sure you know what you are asking for when you choose your room....Ocean "View" (which we got) was beautiful a room but was not what we expected...make sure you ask for Ocean "Front" if you "really" want to see the ocean....overall we loved our stay...

Wonderful food and service!!!!
We are a family of 5 that recently stay at the Gran Porto Real on the Mayan Riviera and loved every minute!!! We were there over the Christmas Holidays and everyone there made us feel right at home. The staff are extremely courteous and obliging, always looking out for you. Our rooms were very clean. We had two rooms and had trouble trying to open the adjoining door, but staff never gave up until they finally got the right key to open it up, joking with us along the way. The food was well prepared and well presented with much variety and a 24 hr. snack bar that was well stocked with food, desserts, wine, liquors, coffee and cold pop. This was great for my kids who made numerous midnight snack trips down there. They have a lot of activities and really engage their guests as well as nightly performances of various music from Mexican, mariachi to current music. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 star is because there was seaweed along the beach portion near the pool area which made it a bit smelly, so we stayed on the other side of the beach which was o.k. They need to clean that up and remove the sand bags that are there then it will be a.o.k. I tip my hat off to our agent Jen who was able to put this trip all together for us on such short notice when no one else could!!! :)

Cleanest all-inclusive that I've ever stayed at.
My husband and I stayed for one week at Gran Porto Real in Playa Del Carmen. We chose this resort because it was so close to the downtown '5th Avenue'. First, I must say that the front desk reception, upon our arrival was organized and quick. We were in our room within 10 minutes of our arrival. We had upgraded to an 'Ocean View' and we more than pleased with the view from our balcony. Our room was 244 and had a nice view of the ocean and Pier at the North side of the resort. Our room was close to the lobby, main restaurant and beach but nice and quiet. Secondly, the service was amazing. I have no idea what the pay scale is at these all-inclusive resorts, nor should it matter to me, but this is the first all-inclusive that I have been to where the staff do NOT hang around waiting for a tip after providing ever small service. We usually do tip after each meal, and provide gratuity to our servers at the pool or bar, but at this resort the genuinely seemed surprised and very appreciative. The staff does not 'hang all over you', but always seemed to be there when you needed them and seem to actually want to assist you with anything that they can. The food at this resort was not the best that I have experienced, but the choices are plentiful and there is always something available that will suit even the pickiest of diners. The servers in the buffet restaurant had even offered to have the kitchen make me something 'special' when they saw that I was avoiding parts of the buffet one evening due to an allergy. I did not request this, they just were attentive enough to notice. The beach is Horrible. You can either walk about 500 yards North of the resort to the other side of the pier where the sister resort is, to find a great swimming beach or a further stroll South just past all the fishing boats has great swimming also. The location of this resort is perfect though. With just a one block walk, you will find yourself in the center of 5th Avenue with your choice of many restaurants, bars, cantinas, salons and both Artisan stalls and high-end shops. We did not use any of the services provided at the Spa as the prices were more than 3x the costs of the exact same services provided on 5th Avenue. I would definitely recommend this resort and happily rebook here.

Mostly great
The property, staff location and food were all average to great!!! What turned us off was upon arrival we were practically forced to transfer to the upgrade hotel across the street for 2 days. Found out later many others were moved too! Excuse for us; no lock on door. Made it seem like they were doing us a big favour. In fact there not; we have only a few days and hours of vacation and we lost in total 7 hours - they did this to 6-8 other couples we know of that week! Up selling?!

Would definitely return to the Gran Porto Real!
Vacationed at GPR in April 2013. When we arrived the room category that we paid for was not available so we were upgraded. We loved the room but chose not to pay extra for the upgrade so we're moved the next day. Our new room was on the street side of the resort. We actually liked watching the activity on the street. The standard room was clean and comfortable with close access to the gym. The gym was small and more than adequate. I arrived early in the am and did not have any problems getting a machine. The beach was not the best but easy to navigate over the sand bags. Most times we would walk over the the GPR's sister resort for a swim. There were always plenty of chairs and shade. And if you like to walk the beach you could walk for hours. The food was excellent. We like buffet dining more than al la carte. My husband never tired of the food. Our sister and brother in law stayed at The Royal, the 5 star sister resort of GPR. We were able to take a short tour of their facilities and will try to visit there in the future. It was beautiful and offered many more amenities. The service was excellent. The staff always greeted us and made us feel special.
