The resort was really wonderful! The staff, food, pools and beach were very nice. We are very sad to hear that they are closing their doors I'm a few weeks as we would have gone back for many more family vacations.

The esort was beautifully kept. The room we had was a suite, reat view of the ocean. The food was good and plentiful. The dining room servers were very attentive. The ala carte restaurants were all very good, the Mediterranean was fantastic. A special formal dinner was given with entertainment afterwards...very nice. The pools were great. The huts at the end of the beach where they sell the souvenirs and such...they are way too agressive and pricey. One other things is barely any of the staff speak any English. You cant ask your room attendant for anything at all. Even the front desk didnt speak much English. I know I should speak Spanish but I am not in that industry. Overall, VERY SAFE, NO BUGS, GREAT FOOD, AWESOME LONGGG BEACH AND IT WAS FUN!

went to San Juan Bahia Principe May 14 2019 with 2 other people, resort is beautiful but the buffet food is terrible, (i have never been to a resort that the buffet was open, this attracted birds and bugs) all 3 of us got very sick, other people i met on the resort got sick too. (good thing i brought alot of immodium), It got brought to my attention none of the air conditioner filters got cleaned in the rooms, i checked mine and it was filthy i even have a vidio of cleaning it and clogging the bathtub. Once this was cleaned the air conditioner worked great. I will never go back to dominican again i've been to Cuba 5 times and have never gotten sick. Kind of scarry hearing about alot of people getting sick and dying in Dominican, didn't hear about this until after i got back and most of the resorts were the Bahia.

The hotel was clean, but a bit dated. The beach was nice, very clean, no garbage around, you could walk for hours as long as you don't mind getting off the resort property. The food was OK. Unfortunately, we could not get into the "À la carte" restaurants even with it being the off season.

Hotel staff were amazing and friendly. Resort gardens and beach were stunning. Food was great! Lots of options. Our suite was great for our family. There was a crib in our room upon arrival. We didn’t even have to ask for it. Cleaners cane to the rooms at reasonable times and felt safe all the time on the resort. Water gym was so fun! Pools were clean and big. Lots of chairs available. Met lots of great people. The Italian and Mediterranean restaurant were out of this world amazing. I would recommend the grouper or salmon dishes. Can’t get any fresher than that. The service was great. Buffet staff come to help you with drinks faster than any all inclusive I’ve been to. So professional and friendly. Buffet breakfast makes the best omelettes I have ever had! There was honestly nothing bad about this resort. If you love coffee make sure you try the cappuccinos, they are stellar! Trip central /air canada offered one of the best flight times for our family vacation

Average resort. Did not think it earned 5 stars. Resort was outdated. Housekeeping required specific instructions to complete tasks. After 11pm only bar open is at the disco which is 3 minutes down the road. Lobby bar is not even open. Inconvenient when you just want to stay in lobby and play games/chat/ watch tv.

Service in restaurants and bars very good. The fan in our room did not work. Advised them of this 4 times and was told they would send somebody right over but nobody ever showed up. Resort very clean and staff friendly.

This resort was a fantastic place for a wedding and for a large group. The staff were abundant and very helpful. The grounds were always clean. I wished there had been bars open later and with better service, however, the drinks were always delicious.

Had a nice stay with family and friends to celebrate a wedding, staff very nice and helpful. Food was adaquate but did not have trouble finding something to eat, rooms outdated but clean resort . Long distance to excursions and airport.

The resort itself is beautiful and quiet, staff are friendly and there's plenty to do on resort. It's the only resort for quite a distance so the beach isn't too crowded, it is quite a drive for most off resort activities.

Was satisfied with all. Had a great time the service was great the rooms were clean the only thing I did not like was to put toilet paper in a waste can instead of toilet to me that is not sanitary the beach was nice with plenty of chairs for every one the intertainment was great and also loved the games they play around and in the pool hope some day we will return

I found the rooms were a little aged, grounds were beautiful, and food was awesome. The bus ride to the resort from the airport is further than I expected. The bartenders were extremely slow and under staffed.

We returned to this hotel after 17 years and were a little disappointed in the changes, not positive ones. We arrived to an unacceptably dirty room, sheets had feces on them. We called to have it rectified only to find out they changed the sheets only and not the dirty blanket. The bed was made with the dirty blanket. We did not have outdoor lights at our building during our entire stay when other buildings did. This was rectified the day before we left after complaining to the general manager. The only thing that was good was the staff were very friendly and kind.

Ok but not organized for the a la carte restaurant. They were saying to us that it was booked. They even closed one a la carte restaurant during our stay The wine was not the best quality. It was watered down. I was surprise to see that we could not drink the water from the tap.

The vacation was great, the staff was very friendly, the food in the buffet had a lot of options and the a la crate Mediterranean was great. The disco and married were a lot of fun as well, the beach was beautiful,

Wanting to travel with my toddler ..it was to me the best place. It was safe, the beach was shallow... The intertainment team was absolutely mind blowing. All staff was extremely nice and helpfull. Very friendly and took care of the 2 of us. They knew we were mother and daughter alone, They have made our stay easy and fun. I would go back in a heart beat and so my daughter who is asking when will we go back. On another hand Felicia and her team at tripcentral.ca has been helpfull and kind. Thank you very much for you time ans suggestions.

This was a nice resort, I think I got value for money. The food was enjoyable, even though I do not eat meat, there was always a fish/seafood option for me. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were OK, I was not too impressed with the way the room and bathroom was cleaned. the bathroom seemed quite messy to me, even after it was cleaned. The entertainment was enjoyable especially the Michael Jackson show and the Beach Party. I recommend that the Beach Party is held twice during the week, since it is so much fun and invites participation from guests. I was slightly disappointed with the resort since my friend who had been there previously really "upsold" the resort to me, so it did not meet the expectations which were created. I will say though that it was value for the amount I had paid.

Food was Excellent, Resort room and staff were great. The Excursion “VIP PLAYA GRANDE” amazing what and incredible Vacation. We are already thinking of a return trip in the future. Thank you Victoria from Trip Central 🤟❤️

This hotel is the best value of any hotel in the Dominican. From the arrival and transportation to the hotel the team strives to make this the most memorable and enjoyable vacation ever. The staff, the resort, ,the food and the management, all work together to make this a wonderful resort for families or couples to spend time relaxing and enjoying themselves.

I learned while at the resort that it was the oldest and largest Bahia in the Dominican. The care taken to maintain the buildings, grounds and beach is evident as I was not aware it was the oldest. It is stunning! It has a really long sandy beach great for walking. The four pools are gorgeous. The dining was very good and the rooms were in great condition.

Staffs are so amazing and friendly to us and best service as we needed. Beach and pool are great to relax and event daily's are great Number one is staffs are great greet us so friendly and laughed !

The resort was good, but a bit outdated. I wish they would upgrade everything, it would make the experience better. However the service by everyone was great, from the moment you arrived at the resort and lead to your room. The drivers always had a smile and we're ready to drive you to where you needed to go. The bar tenders were great at making the drinks, especially the one located near the lobby. The buffet staff were also amazing, always cleaning up. Also I have to mention the resort washrooms were always kept clean, which was great especially travelling with my toodler. We also experienced the spa service and that also was great. The maid service for the room was phenomenal, we would always come to a clean room. Also loved the replenishment of fresh towels when needed. I would only say that the food could've been a lot better, the taste was very off and lacked flavours. The local food we tried on our paid tours were far better than the resort food. The fish had a weird and funky smell to it. All in all, it was a good resort, but for me the food is the main component to a great experience.

I traveled with my wife the week of March 2nd to the 9th and booked our vacation through Air Canada using tripcentral.ca. Overall, I loved the resort and l had an amazing week again wouldn’t hesitate to return to the same resort again. The value was very good and almost everything about the resort was better than I had expected. I will break down my review as best I can. Also to note, this is only my 3rd trip down South and my first in a decade, so I’m not comparing this trip with others, simply basing the review on my experience here that week. It was just my wife and I, we’re mid 30’s and didn’t bring our children with us, though we would bring them back here with no issues. Travel: Everything with the booking went smoothly and without issue. The bus ride from the Samana airport to the resort was about an hour and a half with a stop for beer and water built into that. When we arrived to the resort around midnight, they had food available for us. The Room: Our room was in section D11 and was one of the furthest buildings from the lobby. At first, I thought this was going to be an annoying thing but it turned out to be great for my wife and I. It was so quiet and private and since we were so far from everything, we naturally got a lot of natural exercise from walking to the main areas of the resort. If you’re feeling lazy though, there were always plenty of cart drivers around to pick you up and take you where you want to go. The room itself was extremely clean and well kept daily. The fridge was stocked with beer, pop and water each day and we never had any trouble with hot water or anything else in the room at all. The beds were firm but comfortable enough and the AC worked really well. The Beach: The beach was very long and always very clean. It isn’t the white sand but is soft on the feet and really beautiful none the less. It was always very easy to find a private spot to camp out with a lot of lounge chairs available any time of the day. Also never had any issue finding shaded areas at all. The water was a great depth for swimming was warm and clean. The barriers in the water are a little bit of an eye-sore but they did a good job at breaking the waves which made it a nicer swimming area I’m sure. The Buffet: The food was fantastic every day with so many options. It was repetitive yes, and there were only a couple of different items each day depending on the theme. I would say that my wife and I are relatively picky eaters and we both enjoyed the food very much. We ate fresh fruits, breads, sweets, fries, pasta, all of the meats except for seafood which neither of us eat, waffles, ice cream and really enjoyed the fajita station each day. The service at the buffet was so great all of the time. Everyone was quick to refill your drink and help with anything and there were always plenty of staff around to help. A la Carte: We booked reservations on day one to the Italian and Japanese restaurants. I used the hotel app to make reservations and even on day one, there wasn’t a lot of availability so I’d recommend booking ASAP. We actually ended up cancelling our reservations because we enjoyed the buffet so much anyway. Pools: The main pool was large and gorgeous. We never had trouble finding lounge chairs throughout the day but the ones with shade were reserved early. The pool never seemed crowded and it was always easy to get a drink at the swim up bar as well. We didn’t spend a lot of time here but had no trouble at all when we did. There are two smaller pools for everyone’s use as well. One was really good and we hung out there a couple of times and had no problem getting lounge chairs in the shade and it seemed quiet and barely anyone used this pool. The other pool was smaller and seemed full whenever we saw it and looked like it was pretty-much completely shaded. We never spent any time at that one. Gym: We used the gym daily and it was barely used by anyone else. The cardio machines didn’t operate well but there were a lot of exercise machines to use and a lot of weights. It was large, clean and a good temperature. Shows: We didn’t go to any of the nightly shows unfortunately. Disco: We also didn’t go to the disco at all. The Grounds: The resort itself is gorgeous and so clean. The grounds were immaculate all of the time and were impressively well kept. We saw a lot of workers all of the time cleaning and cutting grass and removing palm leaves, etc. Excursions: We did two excursions which we booked through Air Canada. We did the Jeep Safari which about 6-7 hours in total. It was 75 US per person and was excellent value. We went to a local plantation, house, school, lagoon, waterfall and beach. We had a lot of drinks available and stopped for lunch which was decent. The trip was definitely worth the price. We also did the Dune Buggy excursion which was amazing! It was only 4 hours and more expensive but so worth it. We drove a dune buggy behind our guide who was on a 4-wheeler. We drove through a small town, through the mountains and the forest. Stopped for coffee and to the same school as the safari. It was a really fun excursion and our guide was great. I can’t think of anything else to talk about but it was an amazing week and we loved the resort. Will definitely have no hesitation returning to this resort and would look forward to visiting others in the Grand Bahia chain as well.

Great resort with friendly staff (although many only speak Spanish). Good value for the price. Although they offer lots of resort-based activities, be prepared for long drives if off-resort excursions are your thing!

This was our first time in the Dominican, and we had read mixed reviews about this resort. The room we started with was clean & nice, however we had no hot water. We called the front desk and they had us moved to a new room within an hour. The rooms were always kept tidy, and the fridge was always restocked. There were always carts around to give you a ride around the resort, although it is fairly small and easy to navigate. The staff was always smiling and welcoming! The drinks were good, and service was decently quick. The beach was beautiful, mind you these aren’t white sand beaches. We did the catamaran and VIP beach tours and had a blast on both! The culture in the surrounding towns is amazing. The food was decent, many many options so it made it easy to always find something to eat. We met some amazing people on this trip, and enjoyed the shows every night. It was always sunny and beautiful, the grounds were kept neat and clean. We would definitely go back! It was a nice mix of adults, young adults like ourselves, and families.

Check in: disorganized as usual. Rooms: clean, little to no hot water pressure, some out dated, some are better then others. Grounds: well maintained, however they need to spray more for bugs though, 3 times a week is NOT enough. Staff: some better then others, but I have had way better service elsewhere. Food: AMAZING no complaints. Medeteranian al a cart is the only one worth your while, other two just serve the same things as the buffet. Drinks: strong... as expected ;) Language: very little English, language berrier was very difficult, they really need to work on this. Beach/Pool: honestly the main pool could be maintained better, but the other two were just fine. Beach, lots of sand flees... I am still itching. They really need to spray more. Very little seaweed on the beach, beach was well maintained. Only complaint: I have stayed at almost all of the Grand Bahia’s and some of them multiple times and usually I get something extra like a bottle of champagne or even a comment like “thanks for returning” I don’t know how many people I told that I was a returning guest and it was like they didn’t care. No one did anything. Overall I would give it a 3.5-4/5 nothing horrible, but also nothing amazing. If I had paid about $150-$200 less (under $1000) I feel like it would have been a better price. Or even $1000 flat. I did get a deal but some people were paying upwards of $1500 and it is definitely not worth that or more. This resort has lots of potential but they need someone in there to step up their game. A manager who pushes the staff to do better and wants to renovate some of the rooms.

This hotel was absolutely beautiful. The grounds, the beach, everything but the customer service. We had to go to the reception desk a number of times during our stay and each time we were treated very rudely. There were room mix ups, empty bar fridges, late check out miscommunications and all inquiries were treated the same, "sorry we can't help you". For the price that is paid for a vacation, I would think the staff should be a little more accommodating. There was however one shining star on our trip, a gentleman by the name of Victor who was at the reception desk. He was very courteous, helpful and friendly.

This is a beautiful resort with lots to do. Here are my personal comments without the fluff. The resort is 1 hr 45 minute away from the Samama Airport not 70 minutes. We were checked in and handed our keys at the airport. (our rooms were not quite as requested). We arrived in the dark at 11 p.m., with zero welcome at the lobby. Rooms with 2 double beds are ground floor only, Kings are 2nd, and 3rd floor. Room change requests were refused that night. Had to return to the desk twice the next day to be taken seriously. Late checkout may be available for 35$. Ask the desk. WiFi only works in the lobby, but is not very strong at all. (unless you pay) Pools and beach are well maintained. lots of chairs provided you get down there in the am. Buffet food is good, but empties quickly, and not filled as quickly. ( and lots of food is the same ever day) Book your a-la-carte restaurants the day you arrive. Mediterranean was delicious! Take your Bubba, a facecloth, and clips to hold your towel to your chair. Ride the banana boat! (10$ per person) Free paddle boards, kayaks and catamarans. Relax and enjoy!

Overall great resort, foods good, grounds are well kept, servers are very good at the buffet especially Luis and Ewardo. Beach is nice but sand isn’t as nice as other beaches in Dominican, lots of little sand flies. Only thing I didn’t like is all the bars shut down at 11pm but the disco bar which is about a five minute walk down the resort driveway away from all the rooms, and about ten minutes after the entertainment they shut all the lights off in and around the entertainment area and hall ways. But overall very good resort for the price, definitely recommend.

The hotels, rooms and surrounding areas were very clean. We couldn't ask for better service. The beach area wasn't so nice. I would definite recommend that resort. The bus ride from the airport is very long, like almost 2 hours.

Was a great resort. Check in was a bit different, at first it was cool that you didn’t have to stand in line, but it was 250pm and check in is at 3pm so we had to wait 10 mins to get keys, even though he had them in hand. When the 10 mins were up, they guy was gone and we had to stand in line for a good while :(. However, it wasn’t terrible, just odd. Was a really really great resort! I went solo and had two friends come with me in their own room. Was a fantastic time for all of us! Single or coupled up, it was great!!!! Staff are all great! No issues. Buffet was huge with LOtS of selections of food! Ala carts were delicious, not sure on the Japanese as we didn’t make it there. Overall I had an amazing vacation! I highly recommend two excursions: dune buggies through the mountains and snorkelling off the resort. Both are only half days and they were AMAZING!!! Dominican is a beautiful country!

This resort was fantastic. The grounds were immaculate, the food was terrific with a huge variety. Try the crepes with chocolate sauce! Roast beef, turkey, pork... and fish to die for. Great place for all ages from kids to the older folks. Service and staff were friendly and helpful. The resort was not huge which was nice. No trolleys needed. Pools were clean and the drinks... try the coco loco! I'm going back in the fall for sure.

This is our second time at this resort and it hasn't disappointed. Very clean, great service and beautiful grounds. Expect about 90 min trip from the airport which is a bit of a drag and eats away a lot of your arrival and departure days.

We visited the Bahia from January 25th, until February 3rd. As many have said, the resort is about an hour away from the airport (bumpy drive) but not a big deal. It is important to note that this is the first of the Bahia Principe chain & has not been updated in years (if ever). It is much smaller than many of the other Bahias, but still beautiful & ALWAYS clean. We had absolutely no problems with our rooms. The AC was perfect; the shower, although low on pressure, always had hot water; the maids work VERY hard and our room was always clean by 1PM. The hotel does not offer free WIFI, but you can purchase it for the week for $12 Canadian at the lobby (it worked great all through the resort). Do not purchase the one that appears when you try to log on yourself, it will say $70… Go to the lobby & they will pick the right one! Check in/out were both easy as well. The food at the resort was good. Not amazing, but not horrible. The buffet was a little repetitive, but the food was good. It was a very typical buffet with enough of a variety each day to make sure everyone had a choice. Breakfast was the best in my opinion as they had an egg, and omelette station every morning. Much like the rest of the resort, the service of the buffet staff was great. They work very hard to please everyone! The A-La-Cartes were amazing! We did all three;The Mediterranean, The Takera, as well as the Dolce Vita (Italian). These were defiantly our best meals of the week, so I do recommend booking them. We went on our first day, and had no problems booking all three… Don’t wait until the middle of the week, and you won’t have a problem (this is common with ALL resorts). The pool is great! It was over 30 degrees every day, so the pool was the perfect place to cool off. The pool-bar was a little slow, but I do feel they are a little understaffed in that area. However, they were all awesome! They knew our choice of drinks a few days in. The Beach is okay… It does have a lot seaweed and shells along the shore, but we didn’t mind. Punta Cana has nicer beaches, but we knew this going there so we were not disappointed. It was still beautiful! It was a pretty quiet resort. It always depends on the group of people staying at the resort at the same time as you. We didn’t seem to have too many young groups, more couples (wanting to be stay low) so that probably added to the lack of stuff going on. There weren’t too many games throughout the day, which are usually fun but we still stayed busy! Overall our stay here at Bahia San Juan was great. We have been to so many different resorts, all throughout the Caribbean & we still enjoyed our week here & then some. Some people on here seem to be expecting a world class resort, and that is simply not the case when you’re paying the cheaper price to stay here. The staff were all beyond amazing. They were helpful, polite, and truly seemed to love working there. Everyone was friendly, and always willing to help! Eddy & Rafael made our day every single day at the buffet. Rosanna was very sweet. Waldy in the Lobby was very helpful and defiantly knew what he was doing! Joel & Juan, and the entire entertainment staff were awesome as well. Amazing staff indeed!

First time for us at Grand Bahia Principe San Juan and we really enjoyed the resort The resort is clean and the majority of staff are kind and friendly. We had a great time and didn’t want to leave. The beach was huge, private to the resort and clean. Every section of the resort had staff members ready to help you.

My friend and I had a great time. The food was excellent. Entertainment was great. Service was excellent. Weather was beautiful. Room was good. Price was amazing. Paid 750$ for 7 nights, airfare, and food. Few tips: although my friend and I did not have bed bugs a few people we met did. Don't let this deter you from going. All you need to do is check your bed in between the creases. If you see some then request another room. Try to book al acarte before you get there to ensure there are openings. You should be able to do this on there website or app. The Japanese and Mediterranean were excellent! Kayaking is free for one hour each day. Goat cheese with omelette is amazing for breakfast! Wanting to go again in April! Enjoy!

The staff was the best part of this resort for sure. They were all so incredible. The resort itself was average and the beach was disappointing. My family and I are the type that like waves and unfortunately this beach did not cut it. And the beach itself wasn't very nice.

The weather was variable but enjoyable in general. However, a little too much harassment from local vendors of handcraft items nearby the hotel beach limits. In the buffet service, some times not enough staff to cook omelet for example. The replacement of food dishes takes too long. Room service is very good. Carts shuttle to and from the main lobby is annoying for residents who prefer walking. Too much cars smoke entering the lobby area due to buses and cars parked right at upwind location of the lobby. Smoking area is located near the swimming pool and right next to the walkway to the buffet. Very uncomfortable for non smokers.

This hotel was too far from Samana airport, two hours bus ride to the hotel. We arrived very late and the snack bar was very limited they only had grilled cheese, nachos, fries, hotdogs and hamburgers. The room is average the bed and pillow was not comfortable only if you like hard beds. The buffet is the same menu every day, the vita dolce is the best restaurant to dined in. The front desk try to accommodate your request but cannot resolve anything the manager authorization, so you will have a waiting period before anything get resolved. The beach is not that nice and i got bitten by a lot of sand flies at the beach. The nights shows are amazing. Overall this is a very average resort it not like the other bahia principe that i have stayed at. I don't think this resort was worth the price that i paid for. After all it bests getting away from the cold and to enjoy the sunshine.

This resort is big and clean but the staff look very missarable not friendly don't want to help and they don't think your request is important. The rooms are not cleaned properly and you have to ask for towels. When you ask the front desk for anything you are told come back tomorrow again and again very frustrating. The food was terrible need more variations instead of the same thing every day too much seafood signs are not placed in the right place so you don't know what you're eating people have allergies which could cause the resort a lot of problems. Immigration was a bunch of bullies and think they have a lot of power very rude I would never go back to this resort or Dominican Republic again.

The service and the food is very good. The restaurants were a must to go. The beach is nice and long. Hotel would need some maintenance but the important (service, food, cleanliness) is excellent. I recommend this resort.

The grounds and the sea was great. The room was very near to the lobby which was good.The room itself had problems..the plumbing and later the roof leaking on the washroom was disgusting. I can recommend people to go provided the alterations are made. Food was good ..shows were okay too.But the ticks in the sand were giving grief to all of us ..it continues still after 3days of returning.. Overall a good experience.

the grounds are kept lovely, and the resort is clean, but it is in dire need of an overhaul/reno. A fresh coat of paint and roofing replaced would go a long way to achieving this. The palms on the beach are lovely, and provide ample shade for when you've had enough sun. The breakwater lumps in the water, while effective at reducing the surf and resulting dangerous undertow, are unsightly and spoil the beauty. Since they turn a light green color with the algae, maybe instead of black, a light green color or an aqua color might've helped them 'blend' into the scenery a little better. Service was overall very good, and the food was, well....the food. Not any better or any worse than most other resorts in the Caribbean, but certainly nothing to rave about. The Dolce Vito and the Takana ala cartes were decent, but the Orquidea ala carte was above average. Since we travelled with Air Canada, we were allowed 4 ala cartes, so we chose to go to Orquidea twice. Insect bites. Now here's a real minus. After a couple of days we noticed we were both getting small red welts all over, and were they itchy! At first, my wife thought they might be bed bugs, but after close inspection we determined this was not the case. We didn't feel anything biting us, and didn't see anything either. We were puzzled for a day or two, but we noticed others with the same red welts on their legs and arms. Then we saw them. Right around 5pm, when the sun was getting lower in the sky, tiny, almost microscopic winged bugs. Sandfleas we suspect. We coated ourselves with bug repellent as well as sunscreen for the remainder of the week, but the itching sort of spoiled the vacation. We have been to other resorts in the past where they fog the beach and pool areas with insecticides at dusk when everyone is away from those areas. The nightly entertainment was ghastly, although the Michael Jackson show and the circus show were quite good. All in all a good time, but a few things need addressing at this resort.

The most important asset that completely made our stay great was - The Staff. All staff were courteous and friendly, here are some of the highlights. Emmanuel - front desk, wealth of knowledge, follows up all requests, always a smile warm and friendly Maria - Lobby and La Brisa entrance cleaning. WE LOVE HER. Maria remembered us from our previous trip April 2017 Gleny (very pregnant) and Aneida - daqueri bar - Met all expectations, friendly and warming, helped us in our endeavors to learn and improve our Spanish Rosanna - far pool bar - fun loving, great service, treated customers as special friends. We really enjoyed her company. Her English is very good Zunlinda/Noelia/Veronique/....leo - La casito blanco - A great dance environment, daily fun with all staff, joking dancing answering questions. Always greeted with smiles, attentive to all patrons needs. BBQ chefs a blast, pictures and grilling. Fabulous paella lesson. Jose - dance animations - WOW amazing energy, talkative, friendly, fluent english, spanish lessons, great overall entertainer dance party dj / afternoon games / sushi making - oooooh my goodness - great involvement, great entertainer Angel - waiter japanese a la carte - excellent service, conversation, interest in people, friendly La Brisa - Rafael (Birdman) - lots of fun, great service, friendly, hell of a good husky call. We went out of our way to be seated in his section in the mornings Facilities - lobby - spacious and clean, beautifully decorated pool bar - yesbeth - very personable, accommodating, great smile, friendly. excellent service overall grounds - very clean, well maintained and manicured food - overall - plenty of food, high quality, excellent head chef and organization, great variety a la cartes - japanese top choice room - row D has a smell of sewage, not top choice, poor view from patio with plants blocking view fridge service - poor cleaning staff - good job drivers - fast, polite, courteous, helpful Suggestions - - music at small pool bar - mini put/tenis/basketball - need refreshments (beer, pop, water simple cooler with ice), ground soft and soggy, look for a broken or leaking pipe, drain has water running constantly after 8 completely dry days ?!? music would be great. - disco requires more variety to meet crowd demands, seems like dj only plays music that he likes. we have several pictures to share, please forward an e-mail address to send to

The grounds were beautiful it was very clean and everything was emaculate ,they were very quick to help in every request . The entertainment during the day could have been a little more upbeat and a little more interaction with the guests . The nightly entertainment was a little to repetitive always the same music for the kids show and the adult shows could have been more elaborate and entertaining the beach party was cancelled and then had an audience interaction show that wasn't very good . All staff was always there to help with anything you asked except to be able to have hot water for showers we had cold showers all week long . The pools needed more attention to the cleaning procedures ,often seen very dirty looking so went to the ocean . All in all was a great holiday just didn't enjoy the long bus ride to the resort .

The resort was excellent.Food was probably the best we have ever had.The only things was the air conditioners in the rooms are near your head therefore making it hard to sleep, usually they are located away from the bed on another wall.The distance to the resort is a drag but you get to see the rest of the island so it's exceptable. We were taken by surprise because when we got to the airport we discovered we had to fill out the tourist card and the claim form, which we thought the air Canada rep should have given them to us at the resort. The beach is much like beaches in Canada not white sand but brown sand with shells, but that being said we had lots and lots of loungers to choose from anytime of day.Service at the resort is top notch with many cheery staff to help you.Air Canada had some delay issues both going down and coming back. Question:Why when you pay extra money for seats in emergency exits on all airlines they give these seats up when the doors shut.We have paid a lot of extra money for these and they are given so easily to others, who should be made to stay in the seats they booked or have been assigned to.I understand if they overbook then they need a seat but if there is enough seats then they should not be moved to a seat I paid extra money for.This has happened numerous times.

The hotel was well spaced out and a good amount of shuttles to take you back to your rooms. Lots of activities to get involved in daily. Food was good, lots of variety at the buffet and single nightly restaurants. Staff looked like they really enjoyed working there

People were SUPER nice. More for an older crowd. Not much night life other than the kareoke bar which nobody really sings at, and the “club” which is never really full. Beach is decent, pool is decent. Drinks were amazing. Rooms are constantly being cleaned and food and drinks in the refrigerator are constantly being refilled which is amazing. Food was actually pretty good, nothing to complain about.Overall, I would recommend this place to someone who just wants a place to relax and not party much.

We stayed at the Grand Bahia San Juan from April 12th to April 22nd. Resort is kept clean, staff are friendly, food is good and pools are very nice. Beach area was ok, darker sand and very very hot on the feet, It is a public beach so there are many vendors waiting to sell you everything from excursions to braided hair and knick knacks. We booked all excursions through our rep and did not have any problem. Jeep Safari tour (8 hour) ($75 usd per person) was excellent as well as the Puerto Plata tour (9 hours) ($80 usd per person). We also did the dune buggy's and four wheelers which was fun but definitely not worth the money they charge (3 hours) ($130 usd per person). We had a couple of issues when we first arrived. Mini fridges in both rooms we booked were not working. We called it in and they were both fixed within in 24 hours. We flew down with WestJet and could not have asked for a better rep down there. His name was Lewis, and he was always available to answer all our questions and concerns. Spa is lovely and the ladies are very friendly. Animation team were always around encouraging people to get involved in the daily activities at the pool and on the beach. Only thing that would have been nice would have been a 24 hour bar/snack shop because the bars don't open till 10am.

The resort is very lovely and the staff are accommodating and friendly. Our room was perfectly located close to the small pool, which was excellent and steps away from the buffet. Our room was kept clean and well stocked daily. The food was great with an amazing array of choices. The buffet staff, although run off their feet at times, tried their best to keep our water full. It appeared at times they had run out of clean cutlery though. Check in was a little confusing as staff didnt send us to the West jet check in right away - signs would have been helpful. Our biggest problem for the week was finding rum cream to drink (our new favorite) as they were constantly running out. Over all, a great place, certainly worth what we paid.

Staff very friendly, but upon arrival it was a bit chaotic in registering, and filling out forms, then had to get back in line after filling out forms to get wrist bands. Some people would fill out forms, then get back in front of the line. Needs to be organized by the staff. Also no one told us that we had to bring back our beach towels to the front desk or to take the to the towel exchange. These beach towels were already in our suite upon arrival and there was nothing in the room stating we had to return them anywhere, so we left them in the room. Upon checking out we were told we had to return them or be charged $10 per towel. I had to run back to the suite and get the towels and pass into the front desk. Cleaning was not bad, but sometimes my bathroom mirror was not cleaned and I did not get clean glass in washroom for brushing my teeth (we only put out our cleaning sign every second day) but when we put out our sign, we wanted everything cleaned! Buffet food was fabulous and plenty of selection. A la cartes were nice, but were booked so fast. We tried to book upon arrival, but times were limited or they were booked already. But when we did arrive at the a la cart, they were mostly empty. Lobby store was so overpriced, it was ridiculous. Selling small bags of chips US$3 and large US$7. Who pays that!! Plus didn't like being followed around by the clerk when we were looking at items. Free WiFi in the lobby was great, but it should be in our rooms as well, plus it was very difficult to get it sorted out. Bar staff great. Entertainment, was great one night only. Vendors at the shops on the resort were not friendly at all, and barely spoke English. Beach was great, but need more beach chairs and covers. Main pool was closed three times due to someone throwing up in it and crapping in it. I attended the water aerobics class - not very good, not organized. The instructor had us running on the pool deck. I stopped as I almost slipped. She also got us to make up exercises.!! She should have something already set up. The gym was very very small, no room to move around. Had basic equipment which was fine. It had a sign saying it had A/C but the staff had the door propped open, so that was useless and it was hot as hell in there. One visit was enough for me. Gym did not provide water either. The grounds were very nice, the suites were great. Fridge wasn't that cold, a/c in one room didn't work, but we had a ceiling fan which helped alot.

This was our first time in Dominican Republic and in this resort. At the beginning we were not really sure, but when we arrived we realized that we made the right decision. The place is beautiful, the food was great, the staff were very polite and helpful. very clean and organized. We had a blast with shows, entertainment and karaoke. I specially thank Carlin the manager at the front desk and Waldy at the guest desk (specially for the beautiful gift). You guys were awesome. We will definitely go back.

Aside from the beach, I had no complaints. The staff were always very friendly and willing to help, the food was always tasty with plenty of options. BAHIA Spa was also very relaxing I would highly recommend a massage while you are here. Definitely worth the money and will be returning!

Grounds were well kept. The rooms were small with double beds not queens and were totally uncomfortable. The beach was disappointing, yellow sand with lots of crushed shells and seaweed. Very limited to the resort, taxi service is available. The food was average but the al Carte restaurants were good. The most annoying issues are the line up and slow service at the reception desk as well as waiting for restaurant booking. The other thing is there was not many chairs to lounge on the beach. You have to be up early to get a spot. Not much for teenagers to do

We thought the property was beautiful, well spaced out and very relaxing atmosphere. There was enough to do without having to leave the property. The food was reasonably good. The appliances in the room (refrigeration) was rather old and it would be nice to have a coffee maker in the room so guests can have cup of tea/coffee when they wake up and before coming to breakfast. Overall a good experience and a relaxed holiday. Nice and friendly staff, especially the activities / engagement team.

Well maintained resort despite its age...very friendly people .. Beautiful beaches.. Main pool gets very crowded at times I wish there were more pools in service especially on the west end. Also I found main pool closing at 6 pm is a bit early an it does not look nice to be kicked out with a whistle blow. Rooms were nice.. But furniture was old drawers were not working properly.. Nice to have fridge to be filled up with choice of cold drinks also chips.. I liked it... Lobby was very crowded due to free Internet most of the time.. Over all we enjoyed very much If I have a chance I would go again.. Very friendly staff.. They try their best to fulfill the requests as much as possible.. Getting into bath tub was not designed properly it was a bit dangerous there should be a handle to hold on to.. Also water pressure was not to much even on the first floor.. Buffet food was ok. It would be nice to have dedicated vegetarian section. Wait time at the French restaurant was way too much but food was good...

Lovely resort, grounds are beautiful. Rooms are clean but dated. Pools and beach are nice but the ocean is quite murky and lots of seaweed. Staff are amazing and go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

Very clean resort, always something to eat and drink and the staff were very friendly. Never saw an bugs or sand fleas people complained about. Rooms spotless, beds a little hard and mini bar stocked with pop,water,beer and chips. Beach not bad but the water was too rough this time so we stayed at the smaller pool near the spa. We will be back!

Restort was great but with the amount of people I’d suggest more chairs around the pool and beach area. The beach also wasn’t the cleanest (seaweed, garbage, cigarette butts, etc). Overall we did have a blast and would return given the chance

food was never hot beach has lots of rocks and sea weed rooms were very good and clean the bus ride is a bit long and hour and a half entertainment was fair nothing special in the buffet Eddie was the best server there was he tried to help with everything

The hotel is old but clean and customer service is excellent, friendly and helpful staff, food was good, and the entertainment was okay. The beach is spread out and so it's never crowded, very quiet and peaceful. If you are looking for Wifi it's ok.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the GBP San Juan in early March of 2018. When we checked in to Pearson Airport we learned we would not be sitting together, which was fine but a bit disappointing to start the trip off, but again not a big deal. When we landed and checked out of customs, Air Canada didn't arrange a ride for us to the resort resulting in us waiting an hour or so after everyone else was transferred to their prospected resorts. When we finally got a ride the driver didn't seem to happy, I'm guessing since the resort is a good hour and a half from the airport. The ride was interesting, good to see the local culture and nightlife from the minibus. When we got to the resort at about 10:30 pm local time the buffet was still open and they let us eat before checking in which was nice. This is a massive resort, the luggage guy was nice enough to hook up some local ganga for pretty cheap. We stayed in C9 block, the room was great. AC worked almost too well, fridge was cold, was cleaned daily. The only thing was the shower pressure was spotty and the toilet worked but constantly ran so I had to keep opening the lid to giggle the float. The bed wasn't that comfortable but did the trick after a day of drinking in the sun. The room was cleaned every day. The pool was great, the beach not so much. The water is also pretty dangerous as some kayakers got swept out, one didn't make it back and it took the lifegaurds two hours for a rescue mission. By that time the poor girl capsized a couple times and lost all her belongings, not to mention the mental shock of being left alone out in the ocean for that long. The food was great. Big buffet with lots of variety, the A La Cartes were ok. The staff was friendly as expected. All and All it was an Ok vacation for the price. But I would suggest going elsewhere if you can, and don't travel with Air Canada.

Went what was to be a relaxing fun kayak water sport adventure with 2 friends just in resort and turned deadly with the weather. Lost my friends and then lost my kayak and paddle due to white squalls and undercurrents. My friends I found out made it to shore and asked for help which took over an hour because they didn’t have an emergency plan in place so I was stuck with only a lifejacket in the Atlantic Ocean before being rescued. Then for the remaining two days of our trip they did nothing and didn’t follow up with myself and the two other kayakers to see how we were doing following this traumatic experience because none of their lifeguards were watching the ocean at all only tourists who cane running and screaming when they saw me. Never go on their kayak!

Hotel was fine. Olive Gourmet restaurant had very bad experience when they refused to let us have dinner because we were wearing bermudas pants while they were accepting people wearing jeans/leggings(Yes I said leggings)T shirts and running shoes. They would not accept a couple which the hotel had booked a reservation for his birthday. An elderly couple of 82 years old which had walked 20 minutes to get to the restaurant was refused because he was wearing knee bermudas. Manager was insulting and all couples decided to eat elsewhere. People were really upset about the Manager's response. This happened at 19.15 on 3/6/2018. Shower door in bathroom did not close properly. A sewer scent came from pipes in bathroom. They gave us lemon scent to get rid of odor.

Very well kept resort. Pleased with the quality of the shows, food and service. Location is a bit far from the airport, but the bus was fairly comfortable. We would recommend this resort to others. The price was reasonable and the value is what we had expected.

This is a nice resort. Older. It could use some updating, but they have done a good job at keeping up with it. The food was good, with a new theme (i.e Italian/Mexican) everynight with a signature cocktail. The grounds are nice, well kept. The beach is also nice, however the large floating barriers in the water ruins the view and atmosphere. Stuck to the pool. Also an hour an a half to two hour bus ride was not told to us prior to arrival.

Had a fabulous week at this resort. Check-in was so quick and easy, the room was great, cleaned and restocked daily. The beach and pool areas were beautiful and spacious. The staff and entertainment team are what make this resort so great. They really go above and beyond. The only room for improvement would be in the food department. While variety was good, often it was repetitive and not hot. However, i would definitely recommend and return to this hotel. Another great stay at the Bahia principe chain.

We travelled here as a couple the last week of Feb. 2018. It was our first time in the D.R. and it will not be our last. San Juan resort was very good for being 23 - 24 years old. Friday to Wednesday: sun and rain 24 degrees. Thursday & Friday: hot and sunny 27 degrees. We flew into Puerto Plata via Air Transat with a three and three seating plan with only free water, pop, tea or coffee for a 4 hour flight. Food could be purchased at a bargain price of $25. It was an hour and 15 minute bus ride to the resort. Do not watch out of the front of the bus if you want to keep your heart in your chest. Driving in the D.R. is a whole new ball game. Watch out the side windows and find out how blessed you are for what you have. We stayed in the D9 block. The resort is fenced in and security patrols the grounds 24 hours. Our outside stairs needed some work. Inside the room was clean and the fridge had beer, wine and pop. We had to ask for chips. The bathroom was aged and some of the grout needed work. If you're looking for the perfect accommodations you're out of luck. AC is new, no hot water issues and our room was cleaned every day. The mattress was good and there is an outside balcony with a table and chairs. Staff in every part of the resort were great with no issues at all. The grounds are friendly for all ages, nationalities and the LGTBQ family. We were pleased with all the facilities offered. There are kids programs, beach volleyball, darts, bocce ball, night programs, dances, scuba diving and spots to do nothing. You can go on excursions for a fee. Taxis are available. A cab ride to the Puerto Plata airport is $100 U.S. round trip. The beach is fine. No flee issues and we're not O positive blood types. It is west coast Florida sand and not white Caribbean sand. There was still some hurricane damage in one area which was not yet repaired for some reason. Those look alike rocks in the ocean are sand bags. You can swim out to them and the water is about 4 feet deep. The first 30 feet of the beach is murky because of the crashing wake and then it becomes clear. Like any resort there are people walking around who don't know how to clean up after themselves. Cups, straws and cigarette butts are left on the beach. Resort staff are out on the beach trying to keep it clean. The west snack bar is convenient during the day with your basic food, drinks and a sit down area but they have a bird problem here. Watch the back of the chairs for crap. The resort needs to better cover the nacho's and pizza in this snack bar. Worst is people are feeding the birds so some are pretty persistent. The west pool near the snack bar is a lot quieter (and smaller) then the main pool. The sign at the small pool reads that no seat saving is allowed with your towel and unattended ones will be taken away. The main pool does not have this rule yet. So if you want a pool side seat you need to place your towel on a chair at 7 am. Sorry folks you can't eat your breakfast and save your pool seat too! You better have someone sitting there because a growing number of people in all resorts aren't taking this anymore. It's called first come first serve and your towel maybe gone. We only ate at the buffet. The food was good. No, it's not all hot but everything that we came across was cooked and warm. You have to be careful if you have food allergies. We have a peanut allergy. Someone contaminated the vegetables beside the peanut chicken while the clean tongs sat in front of the veggies. The food is well labelled, it's those not paying attention you have to worry about. There was Chinese night, Mexican night and so on. Cats can be found under some of the buffet tables. Make sure you swat under the table before you sit if you don't like them. The issue would not be as noticeable but you have people feeding them so what can you expect. We booked through Tripcentral.ca and they advertise saving their customers money for over 20+ years. Well that was not the case for us. We booked this trip in mid 2017 with Victoria Sullivan from Tripcentral.ca. and made a deposit. We found the trip for a better price in January of 2018 with Tripcentral.ca. We booked for the new price. We contacted Victoria for a price match and was basically told we're out of luck because a) they don't price match and b) our original booking date was too far from our new booking date???? We lost our $200 dollar deposit. So heads up when you're working with these travel agencies. Thanks Bahia San Juan for an enjoyable vacation.

The hotel was very good, nice clean and daily serviced room, grounds very nice, evening entertainment was excellent, staff very courteous and helpful, Oriental Rest. excellent, helpful for staff to know more English (service staff). Very large buffet that could be more organized, hot food not together so sometimes cold when sitting. In general very nice place with long and lovely beach and large beautiful pool1

Extremely clean and well taken care of. Great staff and very good food. Amazing a la carte restaurants with great service and food. The beach has two creeks/rivers on both sides of resorts and with the heavy rain, they make the ocean water very muddy. Pools were very well maintained and clean. A great place for those that do not spend time in the ocean.

The room was very clean- working AC, fresh towels, water and beer everyday and hot showers. Some of the rooms are far from the main area but they have carts they can drive you on, otherwise a walk never hurts you during an all inclusive. The food was fantastic, lots of variation. The buffet changed every night and the al cartes were fancy and delicious. Best food I have had at an all inclusive. (I have been to Cuba, Jamaica and Mexico). The beaches were small but the water was warm. There were three pools but most people tended to hangout around the big main one. My only complaint was that the pool was closed 2 days due to "child accidents" but not much can be done about that. We did the 27 famous waterfall excursion and hike. It was beautiful and I would highly recommend it if you like exercise and adventure. Overall, our experience was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly (and Canadian). The service was also very nice and efficient. I would definitely recommend this resort.

Start by saying it’s a two hour bus ride on 50 minute like Air Canada says plus it’s a 3* not a 41/2 as Air Canada says however the resort is very clean small rooms but very clean fridge filled daily beautiful land scraping and great for anyone with mobility issues nice and flat . The food was great a good selection and the a la carted were great book your own in line and you can great four which is nice. Staff are very friendly also the beds and pillows are very comfortable hope this helps anyone interested in going to this resort

This is the second time travelling to this resort. We chose to go back because of the wonderful experience we had last time. Overall the grounds were kept beautifully, rooms were clean and staff was great. The buffet food was never hot(only if it was cooked in front of you), lack of hot water and water pressure in 4/6 rooms. The bugs were terrible. Some of our group including myself were covered in bites. The drinks were good, however lobby bar closes at 11pm which forces you to the disco to drink with the 20 year olds. Not our cup of tea. The booking through trip central was easy! They are always great there. Even upgraded us to suites, which was great!

We where at this resort 4 years ago and it was excellent. This time not so much a few days we didn't receive towels in our room and friends didn't get their mini bar restocked. Friends called to get bags taken to lobby but did not show up. It seemed like there is less staff working.

We have returned to this hotel many,many times. It is mostly because the staff and management at this hotel are exceptional at what they do and making you feel comfortable. No request is too large and they go out of their way to welcome their guests. The food is excellent,the pool and surrounding areas are exactly what you need to sun, relax and enjoy the beautiful Dominican Republic. There may be more luxurious hotels but you will have a difficult time finding one as friendly or as relaxing as this one. Hopefully we will return many more times!

Clean,updated room with a beautiful balcony and view.Food was excellent,lots of choices.Not the best deserts( but that is not a bad thing). Pools were clean,High class entertainment.Wifi is temperamental.Staff was friendly/ok.The only negative comment is the beach is not nice.Overall a wonderful stay.

Loved the resort rooms were spacious and clean enjoyed the pools and bars unfortunately if your looking for a fantastic beach this is not the one but on the positive side you can take a 20 minute taxi to some fabulous beaches for the day!

Grounds well maintained, good service by staff, good selection of food. Rooms could use little face lift (i.e. painting, some updated furniture). Food great, grounds well kept, staff very friendly and helpful! Rooms were in need of an upgrade however very clean and well kept. Anything you needed or wanted was only a call to the front desk and they brought to you immediately. Hotel was 1.5 hours from airport bus stopped at a bar/cafe for anyone to use washrooms or to get a refreshment

I was amazed by some of the things there..Most of the staff was above and beyond amazing. The Food was usually good..Breakfast was my Favorite. The staff was either on the ball or you had to hunt them down. Long days long shifts not enough days off. I will be going to the Bahia in Mexico next. Sadly the area is so poor I felt not safe to leave the resort. We did we took a taxi and the driver was amazing he kept us safe 1 million %. Carlos and most of his team AMAZING. So friendly and HAPPY. Air transat guy was not so great. All he cared about was sales not customer friendly. Above all Great vacation. Beaches amazing. Not bothered by the locals as bad as other Vacations Thanks for that. :)

Good points 1- hotel staff very friendly and helpful 2- Food is very good 3- very clean BAD POINTS 1- Not 18 km from the airport but 78km so 1h15 from the airport 2- No hot water or very low water pressure 3- The lobby is starting to show signs of negligence

Overall the trip was disappointing. It rained many days (which of course is not the fault of the resort). The rooms were spacious and had a nice view of the pool and the beach. There were bugs in the room and it required fumigation - there was minimal warm water available for a shower. The food was pretty good- nothing to write home about. THe beach is awful and full of sand flies- still scratching myself raw. I personally would not recommend this place.

We have booked a master suite two years in a row and we are given a standard suite. The first year we did not get the room we paid for until middle of the week. This time we went right back to the reception area and would not leave until we got the room we paid for. We were given no reasons as why this happened, no apologies, no nothing. Why is it so hard to give us what we pay for when we get to the resort. Twice in a row is unacceptable.

Amazing resort, the food was great, the service amd entertainmemt was excellent, workers are very energetic and fun people to be around! Just a great resort for families, couples or even just a group getaway! We loved it :)

With a budget of less then $1000 this property met expectations. Room good, food good, entertainment good, staff were very good. Nothing stood out as exceptional which is too bad. Even a great cup of coffee would have meant the difference between going back to this property or trying another.

It wasn't a bad hotel but it shouldn't be a part of the Bahia chain. We've been to alot of them and this isn't up to their standards. It was the original hotel from 22 years ago. So very dated hotel. Lock was broken. Bathroom door didn't close at all. A.C. worked well. Stayed in a master suite. 2 rooms attached so we got a living room and s bedroom. 2 washrooms. Clean resort. An hour and 20 mins from the airport. Gross beach. Sand fleas. The circus show one night was amazing. Good was just ok. If your expecting a typical Bahia you'll be disappointed. It was Cuba quality but without the beautiful beach. Wouldn't go back

We just returned from a week vacation at Grand Bahia Principe and can say without a doubt this was our best yet. We were there for Christmas and the festive dinner we had there was unbelievable. The resort staff works really hard to keep the grounds in pristine condition and the entertainment crew was very good. The food was amazing and my 6 years old enjoyed the kids club a lot. He loved Dayana at the kids club and he keeps telling me about how much he enjoyed his time there. I highly recommend this resort.

Reasonable price for all-inclusive get-a-way in the sun. Rooms need updating. Buffet did not always appear to be the freshest (some of the food items). Great to have daily omelette cooked on the spot. Very satisfying. Frustrated with ATM out-of-order (but no signage to indicate same). A-la-carte restaurant dining very enjoyable experience......décor, service, food selection. Friendly, polite staff.

One word to describe Grand Bahia Principe San Juan just Excellent. This hotel have been the most beautiful experience personally, the professionalism from the front desk to the girls who makes my room...The food at the Buffet was just delicious.
