1. It’s a Spanish owned hotel, not much workers speak English. 2. Food was a 5/10 3. Waited 1 hr in line at the reception desk to check into our room just to find out we have a royal level check in which is somewhere else that had no line. Workers were not working, keep leaving the desk doing other things even thought the line was long. 4. Beach was the highlight 8/10 just lots of seaweed by the shore.

This is a beautiful property with multiple pools and easy access to the beach. Some of the quality however has been compromised since we last there in 2020. The steak restaurant for example was huge disappointment. The steaks we were served was certainly not of the same quality as what we had experienced in our previous visits. The biggest shock however was how unhospitable the front desk and guest services staff were, to the point of being rude. Many of them spoke little or no English and made no attempt to be helpful. Announcements of pool activities were only in Spanish. There were about 40% of us non Spanish speaking and we felt very unwelcome. For a major chain like Barcelo this was very disappointing. We had the same problem at the airport. We were told there was no English spoken and when I asked for a wheelchair for my mobility issues, I was told there are none in the airport. When I explained about my difficulty, the staff member shrugged! Not only will we not be returning to this hotel, I will not return to this unwelcoming and monolingual country!

Overall, one of the nicest resorts we've been to. The pools, waterfront, food, etc. was all very good! The resort was spotless, in terms of garbage. Nightly entertainment could have been better, but overall, it was excellent.

Clean as a whistle . Manager or supervisor at the front desk , Guillaume Desir is an amazing host and very helpful . This was our 5th stay there , and he is always very helpful and happy to see us .We also have renewed some friendships with other staff there . Entertainment was a little weak this time compared to previous visits . Very clean and well looked after resort . Congrats

This was our third time here at this resort and again it did not let’s us down, The grounds are very well kept, the staff is first rate, they go well beyond what is expected of them. Beautiful beach that you could walk for miles on end , what we like most of all is that all is in walking distance , the beach, the restaurants, and the main lobby. Our only dislike this year was the nightly entertainment, you could do away with the Kareoke.

Okay, we booked a Superior Ocean View Room. Arrived at about 4 pm on Sept 26. Changed clothes, turned A/C down cause room was warm and went to have a drink and dinner with friends. Came back to room at around 9 pm. Floor in front of room door was soaked, roof was dripping, and a freshly installed piece of drywall on the ceiling was saturated with water. I slipped on the floor when I went in. Went to the front desk and complained, #1 Ceiling was leaking condensation from A/C unit in our room which wasn’t working #2 wet floor was a safety hazard as I had slipped on it People at the front desk told me there was nothing they could do about it tonight And I’d have to wait till tomorrow. I told them it was a safety issue and the A/C not working was unacceptable and I wanted a new room for the night. This argument continued for 2 hours until I got a lady from Guest Services to come and look at it. She called someone and we were moved into another room at 11:30 that night. A huge thank you to Yugeisy Castillo for all of her help! The rest of the week was mediocre. Food was okay but the staff were not serving anyone. Definitely wanted you to get it yourself. DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE

Just came back from DR after a trip for my son's 18th birthday. The weather was fantastic, the resort was clean, had numerous pools and comfortable beds in nice cool rooms. The buffet food was fresh and tasty and thankfully featured local foods also. The one entertainment show i watched had lively and energetic performers. Only letdown, of all things, was the seafood restaurant. Otherwise beach was beautiful, but unfortunately filled with seaweed, so we couldn't fully enjoy it. Best part was definitely the dune buggies.

Rooms were newly renovated staff was very nice, very good listener to any of our concerns, I would recommend this resort for all ages, every facility was very nice Very clean on regular basis Grounds, pools were perfectly clean Food was my favourite All day activities for all ages Excellent beach.

Came here for my friend’s wedding and have a lot more cons than pros about this resort. I would never return. Had a much better experience at another resort. - Most of the staff barely speak English.. huge language barrier. - no 24/7 café - Food was not palatable, always the same food every day at the buffet. - room service would knock at our door at 6:30am every morning and wouldn’t come back later to clean our room or replenish our fridge. - Barely any shade on beach or in front of the pools. - Some staff were rude, especially if you didn’t speak their language. - People on the beach were really pushy to try to sell their items. - Rooms weren’t properly cleaned when they did show up.. cups were still dirty, sink weren’t cleaned. Not impressed with this resort.

The property is well maintained and the pools are well taken care of and very clean. You can tell that the rooms are becoming a bit aged and supplies like water and towels are not always kept filled but quickly handled once customer service contacted. The room we were in only had a plug-in at the coffee nook so at least we could alternate to plug in phones but it was too far away for me to use my cpap machine so went without it.

Although I wasn’t happy either the resort for various reasons, I was extremely happy with the service I received from Jenn Black. Very professional and even helped me with documents I didn’t understand. I will definitely be booking with her again

We had an absolute fantastic time at the Occidental punta cana. Rooms were huge and updated, pools were beautiful, beach and ocean spectacular, food amazing. If you don't want to be bombarded by usa university students ide suggest you don't go in March though. Lolol.

The grounds are well groomed and the beach is gorgeous but if you want good service, good food and people that speak English this is not the place. Mostly French clients. They advertise 3 pools. The main pool is only about 4’ at the deepest. The other two pools are about ankle deep. Any entertainment was in Spanish or French.I would advise another resort!

The resort was very clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. The Food was good, especially breakfast and dinners . The beaches were clean, the waters were so clear and colorful. The sand was powder under your feet. You could walk for miles. It was spectacular! The value was really good. I would recommend anyone to go there.

I found that the resort was very well maintained and I was very happy with the accommodations, the pools and the food as buffets and restaurants. The beach was beautiful and unlike my first visit years ago going to a beach was not pleasant since vendors never stopped bothering people but this trip I found even with more vendors, that they all took a no for an answer and moved on without incidents. I only wish that when our flight was cancelled that they would have the ability to allow use of the room till later, we were able to keep 1 room for 4 extra hours at a cost of 10.00 an hour but our bus was only due 2010 but then flight was cancelled and we were stuck in the lobby with a very large crowd due to rain and then very loud music and very warm

The hotel and all other facilities were always very clean and maintained constantly and consistency. A la carte mmeals were very good. We especially liked seafood and steak venues and service. Great beach and fine clean pools.

The hotel was older, but very clean. Our room was in a nice central location, on the 3rd floor, with a high vaulted ceiling with a balcony overlooking one of the pools. The food in the buffet was average, not a huge selection, but okay. The specialty dining rooms were better. There were 3 large pools that looked lovely in photographs, however the majority of the pool area was so shallow (less than 2 feet deep) it wasn't possible to actually swim, and because the pools were so shallow the water was so warm it was like stepping into bathwater - no way to cool off. The beach however, was beautiful. We were there in early June and it wasn't crowded. The sand was soft and the turquoise water was crystal clear. The entertainment was minimal - there were a couple of good shows. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing vacation you will enjoy the resort. The transfer from the airport to the hotel was terrible. After waiting on the bus to leave for over 45 minutes we finally took an Ubr

Loved the food options, the snack bars, and cleanliness of the resort. Staff were nice and polite. Our family suite was perfect with two couch beds for the kids and our bed on the other side of the room. Disliked our location of the room as it was next to the housekeepers storage and we heard Them the minute they arrived for work. (Although they were kind and did a great job of cleaning). Hopeful we will return again!

Very clean resort, the room was very spacious, great food, I just wished they had more snacks bars, the wood burning oven pizza place only open at 6 pm, they have a very good pizza, we arrived at 10:30 pm after the buffet was closed and went to get pizza, it was delicious, friendly staff at the comon area, but most of the buffet staff were mean, it felt like they are angry with the guests. I found one big roach in our bathroom, I told the front desk to come and remove it as I am terrified of them, 2 times they said we will send someone right away and no one showed. Over-all, great place and I will recomend it and will visit again.

The hotel was exceptional clean ,beautiful room, The food was exilent . Friendly,staff I would definitely go back in a Hart beat . Love everting even the show at night was excellent never the same. I Will recommend this hotel too my friend and family.

This resort was absolutely beautiful. Everything from the rooms to the pool area, to the restaurants are so clean. We were there for 2 weeks and the shows at night were never the same and were very good. There is no such thing as perfection no matter how much you spend or where you go, Some of the a la carte restaurants were amazing and a couple were not. Our keycard didn't work a couple of times so we were locked out of our room and had to go to the front desk for help. Minor details. All in all a great resort with everything you could ask for. I would revisit this resort in a heartbeat.

We do travel often , and would recommend to anyone . The staff keep it very clean , food was good , entertaining was good , staff was very polite and eager to help as best they can. Pool was very clean looking , and security was plentiful on the beach . Rooms were quite large and nice and bright . Will definitely return there .

Beautiful beach with palm trees that offered enough shade for us. Very nice shaped pools with various degrees of depth. Amazing animacion team. Nice grounds, lobby, buffet food - but no bacon during our stay, lol. Live music in the lobby in the afternoons. The negative reviews didn't materialize for us, except, maybe, for one thing - waiting staff could be more hospitable, but eventually we found pleasant people and we stuck with those. I think I would want to come back to this resort. For the price that we paid - we had an amazing time :)

I'll keep it simple and concise... Beach is great, not a rock or shell. Water clear and warm. Never calm but not rough. Just wave off vendors. They keep trying but aren't super pushy. Resort clean and visually appealing. (some minor details in room, but nothing horrible) Pools nice and water temp perfect. Food was good overall. Pizza bar was good feature. A la carts mostly a joke as usual, but it is what it is for the money you pay. Coffee not good as usual in caribbean LOL (get coffee in lobby bar to go... its much better and hot) Staff were pleasant overall but most speak little English. Put time share staff in their place from the beginning and ask them to respect your wish to be left alone, otherwise they will keep trying. Had to complain about one outside vendor who was getting rude and manager made him leave property. Not much entertainment wise when we were there. However...The Circus show was really good. Like a mini Circ de soleil... Overall glad we went there and would recommend.

Everything was amazing - sea, beach, pool, friendly staff, perfect service, everything neat and clean. Nature is charming! We spent lot of time on the beach, sea waves were magical, we couldn't get out of the water! Availability and versatility of food and beverages were impressive. Overall atmosphere - very relaxing and friendly!

I wrote a review on tripadvisor, but they didn't post it. Here is what we experienced and saw. We stayed here several years ago when it was a 5 star. It is owned by Barcelo now. I wouldn't even rate it more than a 3 star now. Several hundred locals came from Friday to Monday. The staff and management catered to them. Management set up a lovely welcome station for them with trays and trays of drinks. We were never offered that when we arrived. The garbage left all over the resort was unhealthy. The food presentation in the buffet was lovely, but the locals pushed in to the line and left food everywhere. The seating area was unclean and tables were unwashed and left with used cutlery on used place mats. The staff was disorganized and inefficient. I think they were so overwhelmed. A couple had sex in the pool. That's right. We complained to management but we were dismissed and he walked away. We were shocked at the treatment we received. We will return to the Dominican, but we will never stay there again or at any other Barcelo.

This is the worst resource which I ever visited Punta Cana above the other 5. So do not even think to go to this place or it will make your self regret and feel stupid. In my last word, garbage food and they will try to hook you up with their scammed time share.

I expected to have an amazing relaxing vacation at this resort but instead was very disappointed. The food was awful and as a result made us sick. There were no options to choose from, the snack bar had uncooked hotdogs and hamburgers and crows would would be standing on the food eating it. You only get to make 3 reservations at the restaurants at the hotel. Those restaurants were not terrible but the portion size was incredibly small and didn’t satisfy. Air conditioning in our room broke 3 separate times and took hours to fix while we were left with it broken overnight while it was 25+ degrees. If you don’t speak spanish the staff would pretty much ignore you and be incredibly rude to you. There would be 30+ hagglers on the beach and just around the overall resort trying to sell anything to you and wouldn’t leave you alone unless you said you didn’t have money. This resort was not it and I am very upset with the outcome of this vacation. Do Not Go Here

Services at the buffet and bars are really extremely bad , they ignore you , and they take hours to bring you what you asked for location and beach it’s good , my room Was good , entertainment was good , I’ll recommend that you go to a better place

As I prepare to leave the resort from my 31st visit, I must say, Occidental Punta Cana is NOT what it once was, and has declined at an accelerated rate. We flew in on Friday, and look forward to flying home tomorrow. When Barcelo purchased the location in 2015 and began renovations in 2016, I saw improvements during my following 4 or 5 visits. Since then, it has been a downgrade spiral, that has almost hit its lowest…. For one, the food is not what it once was… there were a few issues in our first 2 meals in the main buffet (rotted lettuce and cucumber as well as a pasta dish that had that taste of something about to go bad), so we decided to purchase the Royal access to at least eat well during our stay. The Mexican à la carte food was great, as usual, but the portions have definitely shrunk. The Royal meals were awesome, but that was to be expected. I honestly have nothing to say of the service on resort... after 30 visits, I know the staff and they know me, and we were always greeted with smiles, “Hola”s, and staff ready and willing to go the extra mile to please. On a side note, the AC was not working properly in the Royal restaurant and not once, nor in the buffet, Mexican or Royal restaurant did we get a “carbonated” coke. It was served flat at every meal, wherever we ate, for 5 days. Was that the end of the world?? Absolutely not…. But there was a time that would not have been tolerated. Lastly, I have seen over the past 5 years or so, and through a few general managers, some of the oldest staff (who had been here throughout) be let go…. I had told myself in the last couple of visits that there were only 2 staff members left, who have become friends, that kept me coming here, and as of today, one is gone… In closing, I am booked here for September, but you can bet your bottom dollar if I can change locations without losing out on $1300, I will be keeping the dates but changing locations 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ It has been a good run Flamenco/Occidental, but our relationship must come to an end 💔💔 For those eating at the buffets, here are a few pics of Royal Restaurant meals ….. We just got back from 6 days at this resort from May 17-22nd. It was for my husband's birthday surprise. Upon arriving, check in was slow. Not to mention the front desk staff are the first people you are greeted by, there was barely any pleasantries. Arriving to our room (block 24). We were on the 3rd floor- the elevator did NOT work.. but I have to say that the room is absolutely perfect. Its spacious, clean, bright, comfy king bed, and being on the third floor- our ceilings were like 18 feet tall with a nice oscillating fan in the middle. We had the view of the garden which also overlooked the other resort but it was perfect. The pools are endless but to give you perspective- I'm 5'5 and the deepest part of the pool was barely past my knees. It is lovely though. There's hamburger shack on top of the main pool that's open til 5am and a pizzeria that I believe is open til about 2am, Our rooms were cleaned almost regularly, but tipping does go along way. I left notes in Spanish asking for things we needed extra (water, soft drinks) and maybe 2 dollars or I left little trinkets like candy or lip gloss. There is in shower conditioner, shampoo and body gel which aren't bad at all actually, wish I had known that before travelling so I could've packed lighter lol. The lobby is gorgeous- enough seating and bar space to accommodate even a large crowd, every night there was an entertainer, we saw a saxophone player and a singer. The buffet- There wasn't many options to choose from, and its basically the same thing every day. We stuck with the fresh omelettes, a fruit smoothie and plaiintains in the morning. Lunch and dinner were roughly the same choices for both. I can't say I wasn't ever full, but definitely lacked on satisfied. A la cartes- We went to Italian, Mexican and the steakhouse. Italian was super small portioned and we felt rushed, literally were there for under 40 minutes. Mexican was tasty, and the steakhouse lacked seasoning but a good portion of steak with a tiny tiny piece of carrot, brocolli and barely a quarter potato. each meal, we went to grab a pizza after. Nightly entertainment- Enjoyable but like any resort, the same kinds. One night it was raining so they turned the theatre into a movie theatre which was kind of cute for the kids If you can't speak Spanish or slightly understand, brush up on some basics. They show you that they're annoyed that they have to speak English. The beach- beautiful, enough lounge chairs for everyone. It's not too shady though. Lucking out to find an area with the shade can be scarce. The beach is clear waters, they do work hard to keep the seaweed away. Only one day there was a lot but there was also a medium sized rainstorm the night before. There's a beach bar near by which also seconds as lunch and dinner buffet, but be sure to have clothes to put on as they may not serve you the buffet without a shirt on. PLEASE dont upgrade to Royal level or premium. I saw them waiting in the same lines as us, getting the same treatment regardless what band they had on. We experienced this at the last resort we went to (Impressive Punta Cana) so we weren't surprised when it happened at this one- Friday to Sunday is Local DR residents time. You'll see around 2-3pm, it just gets busier and more populated on Friday. This is because the residents will come with their entire family and take over. At this resort it wasn't as bad because its a more spacious resort. They'll try and cut in front of you at buffet line ups, they play their own music very loudly. The Gym- What gym? My husband went in, looked around, and left. They could use a serious upgrade. There is on site shopping inside the resort there's 3 stores with souvenirs and pharmacy type things and snacks. Just outside the resort theres a shopping centre of just the same type of things, but they are cheaper. This place could do better with firstly customer service, a smile goes a long way, more options at their buffet, larger sized portions for their a la cartes, and more shaded areas on the beach, umbrellas?? Overall, for the price we paid for 2 people and 6 days- I would not do it again. The resort is huge, lots of space to lounge, swim, relax, let me make mention that another part to making my trip was our room..... which usually wouldnt have a factor seeing that you would want to spend more time OUTSIDE your room than in it. SPF 50 is suggested, bring a good quality thermos for your drinks, tipping money, and bug spray if you're sweet skinned lol.

Very clean, pools amazing, resort very large, lots of walking. Buffet very good, lots to choose from and amazing deserts. Steakhouse and Italian restaurant both very good. Beach was clean, maintenance works clean every day

Great beach. Hotel was average and needs some improvements. Building 22 was dated and needs some renovations. Food was average at buffet not great. Drinks were not very impressive. Too many sales people on resort and beach which was very annoying. Many locals staying in hotel on weekends which made it very busy. Not enough shade huts/ gazebos around pool and in beach area. Servers were not very friendly and at hotel bar were just rude. Lack of servers at most bars and therefore extensive wait to be served. Most likely if I spoke Spanish I would have had better service. This hotel is a 3 star in my opinion and I would not recommend it.

We went to Occidental Punta Cana in mid-April 2023 through Air Transat, it was a breeze! They arranged transportation to and from the airport and were very accommodating getting you settled into your room. The room, building and grounds were very clean. The food was good ketchup was not so good our room had no Working AC complained 6 times but was not fixed properly had to ask for clean towels and drinks in our bar fridge daily . They need to get better entertainment it was mostly in French or Spanish not much English but I had an amazing time joining dancing on the stage with staff , played bean bag toss and ball into holes water polo was so much fun the girls remembered my name every time I recorded the shows loved the robots and the beach party went into to town to shop saw a guy making cigars was very interesting how much processing to do before cigars are ready to be sold must wear sunscreen as I didn’t got burnt on my shoulders and bottom lip was swollen like I got lip injections lol but now it’s extremely dry and sore lesson learned for next trip lol

It was a nice hotel with excellent service though sometimes staff was too busy. It would've been useful to have more staff in the buffet restaurants. The alcoholic drinks were EXTREMELY watered down. Would've liked more live music. There were vendors everywhere, constantly, on the resort and on the beach!! Guest services was particularly helpful.Housekeeping was good and rooms were ok. The food was quite good as well especially the Steak restaurant and the Italian. The biggest issue we had was lack of shade. Everyone was scrambling for the few places that offered shade. The beach was beautiful and made for excellent morning walks!

This resort is beautiful, clean, family friendly and fun. The beach and pools were welcoming and well maintained. We enjoyed the restaurants and bars and were entertained by the nightly activities. The servers and staff work very hard to ensure you are well fed and the drinks are plentiful.

This was recommended by Robyn but after careful review we decided that due to the horrible reviews we would choose something else. Not sure why we are being asked to rate it. I can tell you when we had issues she couldn't help us and we were told we had to refer to the hotel and airline.

The grounds, food, etc. were all very good. It was very difficult to communicate with staff due to lack of English. Even for recreation everything was only in Spanish. Having said that, the staff tried to understand, we google to translate and they were all so very friendly. As a diabetic, it was disappointing to see that they did not have any sharpes containers available in the main lobby washrooms. We had an amazing time overall.

The resort itself is beautiful, well landscaped and clean. The rooms are clean and the minibar was stocked with water and pop (no beer for except for 1 day) the beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked well in our room. There was a decent sized balcony with a patio table and chairs as well as a clothes drying rack. The pool bar(only 1) has a weird waterfall you have to walk under to get a drink so be prepared to try and cover your drink on the way out so recycled pool water doesn’t fall in it. The buffet was great, lots of options for everyone. We tried the steakhouse a la carte and was not impressed. It was a very long wait for service and the steak was over cooked. The Asian restaurant was amazing. The bar could use more drink options and the blended drinks were mostly melted since they don’t use blenders, just the machines that spin the liquid around to freeze. I would definitely avoid early March since we were greeted with about 100 American kids on spring break that took over the bar causing extremely long waits and liked to return to their rooms around 3/4am crashing and screaming and slamming doors. The beach is nice was very windy most of the week so we spent most of our time around the pool. If booking water excursion check the wind before booking we were driven about 20 minutes away to board a catamaran that essentially drove back and forth along the beach since the waves were too rough to cross so we didn’t get to do the snorkeling portion of the trip. There is some shopping nearby within walking distance and there are some vendors that will come and setup around the main grounds of the hotel. The vendors can be pushy and make sure to haggle with them to get a better price. All in all we enjoyed the resort but probably wouldn’t return.

This hotel was amazing, the rooms were beautiful and clean and the cleaning staff were always their if you had any questions. The grounds were kept beautiful and everyone was so friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and the food was great, would definitely go back their again.

The resort was beautiful. Staff were constantly cleaning and working on maintenance. There were gorgeous flowers everywhere. The food in the restaurants was delicious. Serving staff were friendly and helpful.

The rooms and lobby are a scene out of a Cuban resort. Checking in was our first indication that the staff seem malcontent. Nobody smiles here. For a front desk, the level of English is very limited. With a group of 11 of us travelling, checking in was a challenge. With only 2 of the 5 rooms ready at 3, the rest of us had to wait unit after 4:30 for the remaining rooms. All of us were scattered over the vast resort and the request that we all stay in the same building fell on deaf ears. The resort is obviously dated. Although they state that the rooms had been recently renovated, they left quite a bit left to be desired with patch work repairs and furniture from the 70's. the pillows were old. The bathrooms were awful. Sinks backing up, toilets not flushing, flushers not working, hair dryers being held together with electrical tape and filthy floors. Having the maids wash the floors with bleached mops simply does not do the job. The only shining star was the beach, the hotel landscaping and the weather. Although the seaweed washed up on shore every day. great efforts were made to remove it with large tractors on a near daily basis. You do however need to get to the beach at the crack of dawn it you want lounging chairs. There are none available after 8 it seemed. Walking the long stretch of beach was fabulous. The food was average. The bar service was just awful and no beach or pool bar service was available. You had to fend for yourself and wait in long lines to be served. Obviously a way to cut back in the cost of consumption by the hotel. If you like a diet soda, good luck. If you'd like a smile, good luck. If you believe this to be a good resort, good luck. We had a good time with our 2 yrs. Food is good, room are big and clean, people are nice! Its a calm place and fun with children because the noise stop after 22h30. It’s a perfect place to relax, read and spend good time with familly

The Food was not good, the rooms smelt bad, told water wasn't clean unless out of bottles, air transat miscommunicated time for pickup, a lot of staff that didn't speak English so hard to communicate.

The hotel is very well organized and maintained. It is clean and has a great variety of restaurants and bars. The beach is great, with white sand and clear water. The staff is professional and polite. I will definitely visit again.

The grounds were well kept. The resort is nice. The staff not friendly and not much English. Saying that there was 2 bartenders at the main lobby that were great. And the poolbar was good.The food was terrible. Buffet was cold, oriental al a carter was nasty. Food tasted terrible. The steak house was good . Service was great until we finished eating the steak and sat for 25 -35 minutes waiting for the dishes to be cleared. Then the table collapsed on 2 of us. Then they came to ask if we were ready for dessert. Would not recommend this resort!

The Occidental is a very nice resort. The grounds were very well kept and the rooms were very clean and nice. That is about the only good thing about this resort. The service was not great and the food was mediocre at best. The beach only has a few palm trees for shade but it was very nice. The service at the beach bar was very slow as well. The service at the pool bar was very good tho and a few gentlemen at the lobby bar were great as well but thats about it. I will not go back to this resort. Also the website says 20km from the airport but took us an hour to get to the resort.

The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are large . This resort is very clean and the food is great. Unfortunately only made it to 3 a la cartes in our 10 day visit due to no availabilty. The steak house was very good and came out hot. Italian restaurant was good but my food was barely warm. The buffets were all very good.

Clean and spacious rooms. Wifi free for all. Food was good, and plenty of it. Wish they had bacon. The specialty dinners could use a little help and better organizing. Beautiful, clean beaches. Overall, great home away from home. Will definitely be back.

The beach was beautiful and you could walk for at least an hour in either direction. The grounds at Occidental were immaculate, the pools clean but very shallow, the beach chairs comfortable, the rooms comfy & clean, the wifi consistently good around the property, the buffet food tasty (if a little repetitive), the variety of a la carte restaurants was good with food that was a notch better than the buffets. Not as many day-time bars as other properties I've been to, so there were always line-ups/waits to get drinks. Thankfully, the loud evening entertainment didn't go too late!

The grounds were extremely well maintained. A very lovely place to spend vacation. The food offerings were a bit limited but were decent overall. We did not enjoy the restaurants as much as we enjoyed the buffet. Breakfast was extremely popular and very tasty!

Nous avons séjourné 7 jours à cet hôtel. Il y a eu beaucoup de problèmes signalés par les membres du groupe (50 personnes) avec qui nous étions. Bris d’air climatisé, manque d’eau dans plusieurs chambres et ce, pendant plusieurs jours. Toujours la même nourriture servie au buffet et la fin de semaine remplie de dominicains qui envahissent les lieux en se croyant tout permis. la nourriture aux restaurants est bonne sans plus, le vin blanc exécrable. Le personnel des chambres est soucieux de répondre à nos besoins mais la gestion de cet hôtel est déficiente à plusieurs égard car ils ne sont pas pro-actifs pour régler les problèmes. Le seul point positif: une belle plage pour marcher mais sans palapas, seulement des palmiers qui offrent peu d’ombre.

This was my first trip ever. I cannot wait to return. The rooms were clean, the staff was so very pleasant and welcoming. As someone with food allergies, the buffet had amazing options. Be sure to tip!

Beautiful hotel. Good food. Beautiful beach. Clean beautiful rooms. Terrible service. They cater to the locals/Spanish speaking individuals. Good luck getting service, even if you tip. Front desk was not helpful. The same miserable woman was always working there, and she could care less about you. I got my own silverware, napkins, and often ate full meals without a drink. There was one woman and one man that provided good service in the buffet, amongst all of them. I would finally flag down a server, ask for a drink and they wouldn't come back. 2 male bartenders in the lounge would serve you in sequence of you "turn", and the younger boys in the late night (upper) bar served you appropriately. They were super nice and fun, made for a good experience. Were always smiling and genuinely having a good time, which in turn helped you to have a good time. They even played songs we requested. Best employees of the place. Pizza guys were friendly also. Great spot, but they definitely need to work on service and friendliness. Often times we felt unwelcome.

The Hotel is nice and clean, the grounds are well kept , staff is friendly , they even helped me learn a few words in Spanish just for fun. It’s our 10th time in Punta Cana over many years , so we have a reasonable idea of what’s available in the area . Rooms were nice , room was cleaned well each day . We are not picky eaters but we found the food to be “just ok”. I think it’s as much to do with ramping back up after a long haul during COVID , so we are happy to give them a break while they get back up to full speed and staff. We love the beach, and the long daily walks we were able to do, over 3km each way and each direction on the beach each morning . We enjoyed going in the Ocean , and about 50’ in being able to just float with waves while able to still touch the bottom. On Good Friday the local residents are able to come and use a day pass, that day was very busy , and loud , but still family oriented, just be aware it changes the feel of the resort for that day greatly. The worst part for us was the amount of vendors persistently pushing what they had to sell, from sunglasses , to clothing, parasailing, etc etc etc . Also the constant attempt on the grounds to upgrade to a higher level area , that was more than we were willing to accept , and might be a deciding factor whether to even return or not . Some people seemed to enjoy the bantering with the vendors, I’m in sales myself , but on vacation I just want to not have to deal with that .

The resort grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. The rooms are updated and clean. The staff was very nice and Joseph the "spa guy" was such a sweetheart! The Steak House and Mexican were excellent, Italian not so much. The pizzeria again very good, wish it was open earlier for lunch time. The buffet was ok nothing special. We found a used lysol wipe under our salad while eating and brought it to a few of the staff's attention but they didn't seam to care. The resort was not at full capacity which was great, if it was full capacity it would be a problem for waiting etc... Personally the resort was too big and I would not go back.

We had fun at this resort. The beach and water are amazing, you can walk forever! Staff are great, food was very good. The only draw back are the sales people on the beach and on some nights, around the pool. We are there to relax, not shop!

Grounds and rooms were very clean. Food was good but could have had more verity. Only negatives were, hard to get new beach towels and limited bars were open, pool bar for one. Beach bar needed more staff and keep running out of beer. Mixed drinks were not made from upper shelf liquor; therefore, did not taste very good. My wife and I did not finish one drink. Overall it was a great location, clean resort and very nice beach.

This was the first time my husband an I were in dominican and it was everything and more!! The resort was absolutely beautiful, very clean everything was close and the people were the best part! All the workers where so nice and made our trip that much more amazing. The food was fantastic. Always so much to choose from in the buffets. We tried all the el la carts and they were all sooo good! Food was never an issue at this resort, there was always somewhere to grab a bite! The rooms were great, other than the showers not being the best and not knowing if you would have hot water. But this didn't bother us none! The beach is where we spent most of our time! Talking to the locals on the beach was the highlight of our day! Other than the staff wearing masks it was a vacation away from covid, we didn't need to wear masks or worry about anything! The resort was so clean so we didn't worry about anything. We traveled with air transit so we had our covid test in our room which was do convenient! We will definitely be going back to this resort next year and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a smaller, quite resort!!

This was my 20th stay at OPC and my son was able to come along. I therefore upgraded to Royal Club upon arrival. Best idea EVER!!!! The private pool, beach, restaurant and bar made it all worth it!!!!! Beautiful memories were made 💜

This was a fantastic resort, very clean, great service the staff were excellent. The beach was great as were the multiple pools. Grounds were kept quite nicely staff were can’t. The food was great, there was a great selection with variations throughout the week. The a le carte restaurants were wonderful and good was great! The Spa service was fantastic I would highly recommend it. I would go back again it was a fabulous week.

I went to this resort by accident,but it was sure pleased with the place.The people at this hotel were very friendly and happy. Very very clean and well taking care of grounds. The food was excellent and many many choices.There was always good things to eat. My only issue with this resort is its very stretched out and a bit of a walk to the beach from our room. Thank you Occidental Punta Cana for a well deserved 28 day vacation

Un terrain très bien entretenu, bien éclairé, musique en bordure des allées. Chambres de belle qualité, ascenseur, balcon avec table et chaises. Le côté le plus déplaisant c'est le personnel, peut souriant, surtout à la réception, manque de formation, menteurs ils inventent les pire conneries, te font patienter de façon abusive, font des promesses qu'ils ne tiennent pas très déplaisant comme attitude. La nourriture bonne mais toujours la même chose, service aux tables corrects. Seul emplacement sans palapas comparativement aux voisins. On peut comprendre que la pandémie à frapper durement, mais ils ne sont pas prêts. En général pour un Barcelo on repassera. Je ne considère pas cet hôtel comme un quatre étoile, mais un trois étoiles

This was my 18th trip to this hotel. I keep coming back because the service, people, rooms, food and beach are all wonderful!! I must add that with covid, ALL precautions they can take are enforced!!

I was very impressed with the cleanliness of this hotel. There was always someone raking or sweeping or scrubbing or painting. It was well laid out with pools strategically placed throughout the resort. Both the pool and beach had ample seating. The pool was very clean and warm. The beach was beautiful. The beach was raked often and always has security. It was a wonderful holiday and we look forward to returning next year.

We vacationed at the Occidental Punta Cana resort the week of February 7, 2020 to February 15, 2020. We were blown away with our experience at this resort, and would highly recommend anyone looking, to take interest in this one. The resort was clean, well maintained, and the staff provided exceptional service! We didn’t have a single issue during our entire stay. The food was amazing! It didn’t matter if you were attending one of the restaurants, or going to the buffet, or stopping for a late-night pizza or taco! The options were endless, and everywhere was a hit. If you plan on visiting the main buffet restaurant, keep an eye out for Alejandro Lopez. He’s an amazing waiter! He was very attentive, always pleasant, and was an instant favorite of ours. He was always on top of replenishing drinks, checking in on us and provided exceptional service. The main buffet will not disappoint. There is a great selection of fresh dishes, for the brave and the non-adventurous. The staff were always replenishing the food, and with the amount of traffic in there, it was very clean and tidy. Make sure to try the fresh omelets, they were mouth-watering delicious – and made to your liking, by another awesome employee who was always pleasant and friendly. I must also commend the decorations displayed on Valentine’s Day. There were statues carved out of fruit on display. Everything was elegant, topped with valentine themed desserts. We had an amazing woman cleaning our room for us. Joselyn Z. provided exceptional services. She learnt our routine and worked around us by cleaning later in the day, without us even asking. She always left fresh towels, and lots of water. We were never without amenities. She did extra little things which brought her services beyond our expectations. We couldn’t have asked for better! The best part was being able to kick back and relax. Pool time was a favorite, as Santos Castillo was a delight. He is a bartender at the main pool and would get everyone laughing all the time. He remembers his customers well, and most times had your drinks ready before you even asked. He made you feel memorable by seeing you around the resort and stopping for a chat and bringing you a drink. He made the experience so much fun with his bottle balancing acts, and sending your drinks gliding down the counter into your hand. I was also blown away with the amount of languages the staff could speak. Many introduced themselves using 4 different languages. We are fluent English and French. Some reviews had mentioned language being an issue, but this was not our experience at all. We were able to communicate with minimal difficulties, if any, and we learnt some Spanish as well. If you are looking to kick your feet back, with some fun entertainment, this is the resort for you. They have different live entertainment each night, as well as different activities throughout the resort. There was never a dull moment, and we left feeling refreshed. It was the stress free holiday we were longing for!

This was our first trip out of the country and I can’t say I’d recommend this resort to anyone but I have no experience with others. You are constantly haggled to buy things and made to feel horrible when you dont comply, there was a ring of sex traffickers on our resort. The drinks were very watered down. The food was very bland and undercooked. The bathrooms were dirty. Beautiful beach other the being hounded the whole time. I wish I could say better things but it just wasn’t what I expected at all.

Very luxurious and affordable, with lots of good restaurants and good choices of food. Beaches amazing and long for walking for miles. A bit windy at times . Good pools, lots of chairs to sit. The only negative for me is The Music and entertainment was too loud Extremely loud.!!

The hotel itself is well maintained and clean. The ala carts served great food but were cold, ladies bring a sweater. The main buffet and the beach buffet had a good assortment of food. Two things that upset us was the slowness of the room cleaning staff (twice in 14 days our room was not cleaned) or not finished until 5pm. The other thing was that some of the staff catered to the locals before us standing in line. Other than that it was a nice 14 day trip. The beach was great.

Resort was clean, someone was always cleaning the bathrooms, especially at the beach. Grounds are well manicured. Pack your patience for service at the lobby bar. You will need to sweater when having dinner as all the restaurants and buffet are extremely cold.

This resort is very clean, with a beautiful beach and sparkling clean pools. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is the main buffet and a buffet at the beach where we had breakfast every morning. The entertainment in the lobby bar each night was wonderful and the service we received from Myralargo was just the best. She took excellent care of our group all week. The animation team is good but their English was not always the best and at times hard to understand. Some of the activities become redundant as the week wears on. The food is good to very good. The steakhouse was our absolute favourite and on par with any you would find here at home. However in some of the other restaurants the service was really slow. This appears to be a lack of staffing issue vs the staff themselves. All in all we had a good vacation, but I would say it wasn’t up to par with other Occidentals we have stayed at in the past.

Booked this hotel with friends / kids for Christmas on the beach. We've been to Punta Cana at least 15 times in last 12 years and stayed at various hotels. The transfer from airport to hotel was great. Check in was ok, our room was not ready yet but this gave us time to have lunch at the buffet. The rooms are spacious and clean. The A la carte restaurants were alright but you had to signal the server to get wine. This is the first hotel we've been to that did not have Rosé wine included!!! The problem was at the breakfast / lunch buffet by the beach. The poor servers spent most of their time clearing tables meaning they did not have time to serve / offer beverages. My wife helped clear 4-5 tables every day to help out. The only bar near the beach did not have a lot of choices for drinks and had a lineup of sometimes 15 people and only one bartender. This, I believe, is poor management not supporting their staff or not having enough staff on hand to cover the amount of guests. Great work by Graciela at buffet who kept a smile and did as good as she could. Towels were hard to get or exchange. Lounge chairs were not too hard to find, beach or pool. Reserving restaurants was a bit complicated so do it as soon as you arrive. Site itself is nice and well kept.

After loving our stay last year at the Occidental Punta Cana we decided to return again this year. The rooms are large, renovated and clean. Towels and mini fridge are replaced and restocked daily. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. We were there Dec. 11- 21 and never had an issue finding chairs on the beach or around the pool. The food was delightful with a great variety. One of the highlights was walking through the grounds at night with the breathtaking Christmas lights wrapped around all the trees. The staff was pleasant and took the time to remember us and our drinks preferences. We could walk forever on the beach that was cleared of seaweed every morning. We would be happy to return again next year!

We like the hotel especially staff are friendly but something needs to be improved. We booked for a à la carte restaurant but for booking line we were waiting 30 minutes. Any way we like to hotel thanks

My husband and I just spent 10 days at The Occidental Punta Cana in the Royal section. We got private check in and out, and access to all the Royal ammenaties. The good, service, grounds and beach were amazing!!! Our only issues were with Air Transat, if we can book with a different airline, we will return again for sure!!

The pool was amazing, the staff was friendly, food was great (even for a vegetarian like myself) and the nightly shows were very entertaining. The beach did have a pile-up of seaweed or something so entering the water will get your feet dirty. The resort is very beautiful though and the pool is very inviting, although it closes at 7 pm which sucks because it looks beautiful at night.

We found everything good and well organised. The staff were always cheerful and helpful. The beaches were clean and there were lots of activities to choose from. The food at the buffet was out best choice with lots to choose from. All in all we had a very relaxing stay at the resort.

This is a great Resort. Good infrastructure, clean, excellent staff. If I can make a recommendation the Internet cost should be included with the all the rooms. There is room to improve the fine dinning at the restaurants, but in general a great experience.

We just came back from our wedding at the Occidental Punta Cana, we had the most amazing time with all our friends and relatives, the hotel is the perfect size, big but not so much that you could still walk back and forth to the beach and the lobby several times a day, many options for dining, although a little hard to book the restaurants but the buffet had so many choices and different things every day, the beach is amazing, well maintained, overall super happy to have chosen this hotel for our big day!

We stayed at the Occidental Punta Cana for 10 days. Hotel is close to airpot- 20min. *Check in & out was so fast! We loved that *Room was huge, clean & great location. I recommend building 23,24,25 if you want closer to ocean. *Beach was BEAUTIFUL! always available lounge chairs- the only downfall is the people on the beach harassing you to take pictures with the parrots.monkeys or to buy something from them. if you say no they will let you be. *Grounds were spectacular & always well kept throughout the day. *Food I would say is a 3/5 .. there was always a variety just most times it became repetitive.. but we didn't complain- it was still above average! *Pools (3 of them)- lovely and always clean! 1 party pool and the other 2 were quiet. *Service- pretty good! anytime you needed something answered, help or whatever it may be someone was there to help guide you. *Vibe- this hotel caters mainly to latins. I could probably count the english speaking people at this resort- many tourists from columbia, chile, costa rica, peru and dominicans themselves (a few locals were there vacationing) Therefore the workers here don't speak the best of english if any at all. *This hotel caters mainly to couples & families. Not many singles if this is what you maybe looking for. Overall hubby & myself had a wonderful time!! We would rate this hotel a 8/10. For the price , location & gorgeous beach-- we hope to return!! =)

Lovely grounds, beach is great, pools were great. Service was very spotty, but the food was absolutely terrible. We had heard that the food at all-inclusives was generally poor so we were prepared with low expectations but this was unbelievable. Also the main bar is in a massive lobby and is not a friendly environment - very bright, noisy, poor service. They run out of napkins and coffee cups in the buffet every morning. They run out of beach towels everyday.

Nice green grounds, nice blue swimming pools, nice restaurants. Some Canadians, Some ethnic Italians and French. Over 50 % Russians but no large groups. Mostly polite couples. Standard Superior Rooms do not get international drinks except wine. Only domestic drinks at regular standard bars. They are not good. The worse mohito drink I ever tasted. I did not see any prosciutto. 2 extra clubs are but they pay more and they do get international drinks. Large waves in the sea not save for children. Water nor clear because of Sand in the water. Yellow flags most days.

Few key points regarding our visit: -Very busy resort but all to be expected for spring break/march break trip -Staff (concierge and his manager) were very pushy for 2 days straight regarding sale of timeshare (We were pushed to meet a representative for a 1.5 hour meeting in order to obtain a 50$ voucher for the gift shop. We were then reminded to help out the staff *our concierge* as he gets commission when we sit for the meeting. We were then advise to lie to the timeshare representative about how long we have been dating as according to the laws of their country we needed to be together 3 years or live together in order to obtain the voucher for the gift shop. When I left the meeting point to go gather our passport, the manager of our concierge continued to speak with my bf and showed him pictures of himself when he used to work out as my bf is into fitness and scrolled through his library only to show him pictures of naked women he had on his phone. I felt that was very inappropriate. We finally advised them that we had not come on vacation to meet for sales meeting for half a day so advised we would not need their assistance. This unfortunately left a bad taste in our mouth regarding the staff) -The main buffet restaurant was a bit chaotic (We would have people come sit beside us to enjoy a meal, only to leave the table for a minute and return to have their plates and drinks removed from the tables in order to make room for next guests. Unless one person stayed at the table, your food and drinks were taken away. It was already bad enough that it took sometimes up to 15 minutes to get an omelette in the morning and worse that we both had to wait 15 minutes separately as we couldn't leave the table) -Beverage selection was not a 4.5 star (We started approaching the bars with requests for margaritas only to be told that they did not have tequila on hand. We then would order mojitos and were told they were only available in the lobby bar - which they then advised they couldn't make them there either. We aren't big on sugar drinks but ended up drinking mostly vodka lemonade for most of the trip. Not too sure if this was an issue due to the busy time or just simply the resort not being able to offer as much selection.) -The beach was beautiful and weather was perfect which helped make our visit pleasant. -Housekeeping wouldn't come clean our room until 4pm some days and it ran into the timeframe we had to get ready for our dinner. This was a bit of an inconvenience. This was our first all inclusive vacation together in 2.5 years and we expected a bit more but overall it was nice to get away to the sunshine. Only reason we would recommend the reason was for the beach, the weather and the updated rooms. Thank you

The resort is small so not a lot of walking is required. The grounds are impeccably maintained. The rooms are a nice size with lots of storage space. The beds are comfortable. I loved how each block had an information person that was there to help you. Our information person's name was Louis. He gave us a tour of the resort and answered our questions. The food was good. Lots of choices. The entertainment was ok but I've seen better at other resorts.

Grounds well kept, clean, service could use some improvements, room was large, but need some work (paint, cracks in the walls, bathroom shower not working properly, sink not draining small thing that needs to be address, fridge not filled every day had to call front desk everyday day having said that they did come and replenish the fridge and the front desk did the follow up witch was nice but why not fill the fridge at the first place and there would be no need to call and give the customer good feeling and satisfaction Front desk staff this time around was good and spoke English well enough to communicate with Food could use little improvement as well and variety not too many choices to pick from Overall it was a decent stay as it was our second stay at this resort we might consider other options next time

Very clean resort; from the grounds, to the rooms and pool areas. Food and service was decent. Staff were friendly enough, but communication was difficult due to language barrier. Beach was also very clean ans staff were in top of cleaning up empty cups etc

The hotel was nice the grounds were nice and clean and tidy the staff are very friendly the beach is amazing the food was good also breakfast was amazing ala carte were okay The only problem I thought was that the front lobby bar close too early should stay open a little bit later 11 is too early

Grounds hotel and beach very nice service was not consistent at all and for most part poor. Did not matter wether you tipped or not,we found that hotel staff not friendly not willing to help.We totally felt uncomfortable and not welcome for the most part, promises were made and never delivered. This is not a hotel I would recommend or ever return to.

Prepare to be a minority. 85% of guests are from Russia, behaving like they own the place, as well as entire Punta Cana. I believe that it's affecting staff in the negative way. Premises are beautiful and well maintained, all but bathroom by the theater, which is absolutely discasting. Food is more than adequate, drinks are not. Mohitos without the mint, just a sugary sirop. Intertament good two out of seven nights.Rooms are renovated, beach infested with seaweeds, WiFi is extra charge.
