Grounds-Nice and kept well Public Areas-Also nice and kept well Rooms-Nice and kept well, was in a studio with kitchenette. Had problems twice with my older type safe getting it activated. Had a problem accessing my room multiple times, maintenance had to change door lock batteries and re code door multiple times. Dining-Good assortment of tasty food for breakfast, lunch and dinner (deserts need to be tastier, many had no taste to them which is constant problem in Mexico). Was disappointed to find that they did not have an assortment of specialty coffees. Regular coffee itself tasted very good. Features- Tennis area and multiple pools (3) over three areas was very good. Beach area-not very big, ocean washed sand up against the huts on the beach Bar Lounge area-not very large and very loud once full of people and music playing, they need more lounge areas Lobby - Completely open, no closed door for security purposes. This was not good during the government shelter in place at hotel requirement. There should be a gate or door that can go across the entrance to close off to intruders. We had to shelter in our rooms. Elevator service-only one elevator for entire resort Buffet restaurant-Very good service and food Surf and Turf restaurant-Very good service and food but very loud in-side Mexican restaurant-Very good service and food

An excellent resort, very clean, sparkling clean pools, Friendly and outgoing staff The four restaurants served fine meals with friendly staff. The beach was always clean. Only problem was the rough sea and undertow. Lots of entertainment around the main pool with music and games every day. Maintenance people kept everything neat and tidy. Nightly entertainment was generally very good. Thoroughly enjoyed our 14 day vacation.

Location is good, the view from the buffet restaurant was beautiful, but other than that, everything was disappointing. The room in the villa section was very dated, faucet was rusty, bathtub was peeling off. The first room we got was noisy all night from the huge fan on the front building. The room we moved was even older, blocked by parking building, but was quieter at least. After moving, I found out that I left my clothes in the room. I checked the room with the staff, but the room was already cleaned and it was gone. I reported to the reception again next morning as he instructed. After waiting a while, what the staff told me was just they found nothing. They did not explain anything whether they found and asked to the maid who cleaned the room. They were not really care about their guest and also the procedure for dealing with this issue was not sincere at all. Food in the buffet restaurant was basic, but staff was friendly. Asian restaurant was the worst food I ever had. Appetizer was not properly cooked so there were raw flour in the fries, 'shrimp salad' was not shrimp but tough imitate crab. As soon as we tasted Pad Thai for main we had to get out. Cevicheria and the seafood restaurant was pretty good, though. It was our 4th all inclusive trip to Mexico and 1st time that we are not satisfied.

This trip was booked thru Trip Central and was a Sunwing Vacation with a West Jet Flight. I was a bit skeptical of this being a 4 star resort from reading some of the reviews, however the price was great and we decided to chance it. It turned out to be much better than expected. The staff were amazing, the food was really good, pools nice and the location to downtown was perfect. The rooms were dated and could use some better lighting and furniture but very clean with comfortable beds and great showers. The a/c worked great. Our house keeper was Royo who did a great job. The hotel is really two facilities joined by a pedway. I was in the Mountain zone which is separate from the main building. It is a bit of a walk to the pools and restaurants but very quiet The buffet food was outstanding. Always a seafood dish and other selections as well as great fresh fruit and vegetables. Staff were great, a shout out to Arturo who I got to know over our stay. I had signed up for the Italian, Mexican and Surf and Turf specialty restaurants but opted instead to just do the buffet Location is a 25 minute walk to the start of the Malecon. A 2 minute walk to the convenience store and less than 5 minutes to the bus stop. Bus is 10 pesos and the Centro bus takes 10-15 minutes to get to the heart of the Malecon. Suggestion: I never experienced any lineups for the buffet however I was there before 8 am for breakfast and before 7 pm for supper. Most people go around 7:30 - 8pm for supper and by then there is a short line up. Summary: this was an excellent choice for my last minute vacation. I would not hesitate to go here again in the future.

Clean rooms, reasonable food selections, staff attentive, safe with security, beach front, family atmosphere. location is great to walk to various tourist options, evening shows and day events for all ages.

This resort is old but fairly clean if your looking to go somewhere to be pampered and are used to 4 star or better don’t go there the resort buffet is very poorly set up but you can find things to eat if your patient and early for dinner or lunch the staff were very good but they are under staffed for the amount of people that are there the el le carts were okay but not very consistent with the quality of food except the Italian which was good both times surf and turf was amazing first time but disappointing the next two times we prob won’t visit this place again but the location is great if you wanna explore puerto Vallarta

I would rate this resort a three star if it were in Cuba. The resort is very dated, as an example, one socket in the room for charging any devices. The buffet has limited selection. Despite the line ups for the buffet it seemed everything had been out for a considerable period. I was only able to book two a la cartes, surf and turf was good but Mexican was a disappointment. On weekends the resort was very crowded so a good time to explore town. Staff were all great and always helpful.

Lovely grounds, pool is good. Staff were very friendly and attentive to the guests. Rooms and food left much to be desired. Buffet had minimal options typically one starch, three or four veg one meat one fish. Food often overcooked. A La carte(s) were hard to reserve therefore dinning time not very convenient. Surf and turf a La carte was good. Furnishing in rooms very dated and in much need of renewal. Bed was reasonably comfortable.

The hotel and ground are very clean staff are amazing. Definitely would go back to this resort. Close to alot different restaurants and shops. If you want to walk to the Malecon is approximately 25 min or hope on the bus for 10 pesos

This resort has a Mexican charm to it. It is in need of renovations though. Bed in our room needed to be replaced, it was disgusting, dirty foam pad and mattress. The food was pretty good and nightly entertainment was good. Staff at buffet restaurant were friendly, front desk staff could be better. We couldn’t seem to get face cloths after talking to them several times. When our room had issues they got someone on it fairly quick. We hardly sat at the beach as palapas were very low. Beach was narrow and steep, hard to walk on. Better drinks at lobby bar than pool bar. I would not return to this resort.

To preface this whole review, my partner and I almost exclusively travel to adults only properties. We booked this on a whim because it was well-priced and didn't expect that it would meet our standards, but I used to be a travel agent so I have a fairly level-headed approach when reviewing all inclusives. My partner and I travelled here from March 15th to 22nd. We were there over a local holiday, and the resort was quite busy when we arrived. There were a lot of local families, which was actually nice to see. It did make the resort experience feel a little more authentic. It did sort of thin out after March 19th. Overall impression: this seems like a well priced family property. It was very popular with families, especially those with kids under 10. There also seems to be a large repeat clientele who return to this property frequently and do extended stays. Those who like it really like it! :) Our room: We had a partial oceanview, #307, jn the Canto del Sol section. We had no balcony, and our window wouldn't open. The AC worked incredibly well, and was set to 18 degrees Celsius when we arrived. Brr! We had a king bed with 3 pillows. My partner said that he thought the bed was too hard, but I didn't think so myself. Our room was small and basic, and there wasn't a lot of places to store things or hang wet items. Everything was clean. We didn't have any faceclothes on arrival, but we were provided some when they cleaned the room and changed our towels on our 3rd day there. We received a phonecall after two days because we had the "do not disturb" sign on the room to ensure that we didn't need anything or want the room cleaned. Our toilet clogged one day and they were very prompt in fixing it. We had no issues with hot water, and we were in bed early each night and weren't disturbed (until the last night when a group of rowdy lads checked in the hall across from us...if it had been more than one night of their antics at 2 am I would have complained, and I can see how the noise carries in the hallways to disturb guests). Our mini fridge wasn't plugged in and we were provided two bottles of water that we could refill during our stay. I recommend bringing a reusable water bottle or insulated cup from home. The pool: the pool in the Canto del Sol section is small. There is a swim up bar and lots of loungers, but they don't get consistent shade. Lounger holding is rampant here! The best shade is in the covered palapa next to the buffet. Unfortunately, there was a couple holding two loungers for hours each day and didn't spend barely any time there. One day they actually held the side table. Ridiculous. If you're not even going to be at your damned chairs, don't hold chairs in the shaded areas. We were still on Ottawa time and we were up each day before 7am. This was lucky, as this was the only way that we could get a lounger in the shade. The shade after 1pm is not as good as the shade in the morning. There are two other pools that we saw, one in the Luxury section and one in the Mountain section. They didn't seem as busy. However, you are no where near the ocean when at those pools. The water was warm and the staff did a good job of keeping the pool clean. There's several iguanas who hang out by the pool, who are incredibly tolerant and are accosted by guests all day. Lots of kids in the pool. I definitely got splashed and had a rubber ball bounced off me on several occasions but that's the price you pay for travelling to where children are. The pool was open quite late! They seemed to have guests in there even until after dark sometimes. The beach: not many palapas by the beach. We found the sand to be course and the water was rough (red-flagged each day). I would recommend water shoes! It definitely was gorgeous to look at with really nice sunsets, but if you're a beach person I wouldn't say this is the place for you. The food: the buffet was fine, nothing special but we always found something to eat. Breakfast and lunch were better than dinner. I'm a lenient vegetarian and found that they tend to add meat into a lot of dishes. My spouse is lactose free and a lot of dishes also had added cream or cheese. The dinner at the buffet was not especially good, to the point that on our last night we actually went into town for street tacos instead of eating on the property. On the resort I ate a lot of fish and rice. The snack bar was hit or miss. It was fine to grab something light and simple, but it wasn't especially tasty. We ate at the Cevicheria for lunch one day and were not very impressed so didn't go back. For the a la cartes, we ate at the Italian, the Mexican and the Surf n Turf. The Mexican was by far the best in terms of food quality and flavours. The Italian had decent mains but the appetizers weren't great. We were not impressed with the Surf n Turf at all, and had only booked it because of the seaside/outside location but unfortunately on the day of our reservation the restaurant was moved to a location by the lobby area. Speaking of the locations of the a la cartes, they can be rather confusing. The Mexican is in the Mountain section down a random hallway, and the Italian and Asian are in the Luxury section next to their pool. I would say that this is probably the worst food I've had at an all inclusive in Mexico, but still was better than what you get in Cuba and some parts of DR. The drinks: The beer was cold and my partner drank a lot of it! I didn't try any of the mixed drinks, but he did and enjoyed what he had. I stuck with wine or mimosas. I don't go to an all inclusive to drink good wine and can say that this tradition continued. The staff: we thought the staff was great! Everyone who we interacted with was polite and friendly. 10/10 for the staff, they work super hard and do a great job. :) The entertainment: the entertainment team tries really hard, and it's appreciated. There's lot of activities for little kids, but the activities for adults were not super exciting. No dance lessons. Evening entertainment was the biggest let down. It seemed like the karaoke and the circus show were the most popular. The show doesn't start until after 8 (sometimes 8:30 and sometimes 9) and there's no "light" entertainment to occupy you in the lobby area before then. We were back in our room most nights by 9pm. In conclusion: we wouldn't come back to this property. We really loved Vallarta and the hightlights of the trip were spending time in the Centro and Zona Romantica which are approximately an hour walk away (but only about a 10-13 minute uber ride). We will stay closer to Centro next time we are in Vallarta and probably not go all inclusive. We also went whale and dolphin watching one day and it was amazing! While this property wasn't for us, I would definitely recommend it to people with children, as it's a great value for families. Just to add: we booked the private transfer through Sunwing. On the arrival, that included a vehicle with air conditioning. On the return, it was a local taxi that the Sunwing Rep at the hotel called over that had no AC. It's not a huge deal, but I don't think having the private transfer really offered any benefit in Puerto Vallarta at all.

The hotel was clean, food good, staff very friendly. Unfortunately we stayed in the villa area which is an easy walk across a foot bridge but we got a sewer like smell on a daily basis. It would not last long but was very unpleasant. The location of the hotel was good, it was an easy walk to the boardwalk (Malecon). The beach was terrible (coarse sand and steep drop) and the entertainment was limited.

That was yesterday, when I checked out of this third rate, fourth class, chintzy, cheapskate operation that they have the nerve to call a hotel. If this is a four star, then the Motel 6 is a ten star. Walk with me through the two week experience I've just endured , stick with me and you'll save yourself a lot of grief. As you approach the resort, a sunset orange and cream highrise soars from the beach, just gorgeous, then as you get closer, another highrise in beige, immaculately clean and oozing luxury climbs up next to it. Then you turn off the main road and your heart begins to sink a bit, there's a ramshackle property squeezed in between these two elegant properties. As you approach it along a road that looks like an earthquake has just rolled through, you realize that this is the horror show that you are going to be dropped off at. Canto del Sol. Most of the businesses , shops, etc on the ground floor are boarded up or are masseuses/ pharmacies that ply their trade, and they were all friendly folks trying to scrape out a living in a hardscrabble environment, talk about thorns between two roses! The hotel part itself is quite a nice looking place but the haciendas, studio apartments called Villa Vallarta , a place that they've recently acquired, are like something out of a Pancho Villa black and white movie.. dirty, dusty, forlorn and neglected. I honestly thought we were checking in at a funeral parlor when we got to the lobby , the lobby where our troubles began the moment we stepped foot in the place. Although we thought we had booked into the main hotel, they took us to one of the "studios" ( and let me tell ya! it wasn't MGM) . It was furnished as sparsely as a Mexican prison cell and contained a king size bed, when we had ordered two queen size. No couch.. nothin' The headboard of the kingsized bed served also as a kitchen countertop, as the bed was slid under it to make some room. This studio had a kitchen in it that would have kept Gordon Ramsay in expletives for a month or two. So, unimpressed we crossed the earthquake zone to get back to reception (because all of the studios are in the "Villas" dump of a building), to get them to change us to the room we wanted and thought we had paid for. Now it gets interesting, the front desk manager says " no problem, we'll move you to the main building. Being experienced in these sort of bait and switch operations I had him confirm that there would be no extra charge . With my wife standing next to me he said that there would be no extra charge, so we moved our bags to the new room, which was OK but still starting to show wear and tear . Tipped the lobby guy 50 pesos and then he told us that we would have to go back to the front desk to get the key change. Once there the desk manager told us that there would be an upgrade charge of ... wait for it ... 760 US$ for the move. Of course I told him that I would be paying not a dime and now that I was in the new room I was going to stay there. His response? "We will call the police, oh! and by the way, Welcome to the Canto del Sol." The bellboy urged us not to get the police involved as we would probably have to pay them off as well as the hotel. so we suffered the first night in the prison cell with the fridge making a noise like a jet engine and the air conditioning pounding like a meat locker with no off switch. The next morning we're talking with the Sunwing agent who was about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike in his dealing with the hotel management. He said that they just wouldn't budge and were insisting that we stay in the cell. I had to take things into my own hands . After a morning's argument with the front desk manager and the guest relations guy and us showing them the actual photo on the website, they finally partially relented and offered us a downgrade, would you believe it? A downgrade to a room in the welfare section of the hotel that had two queen beds but was so far away from the main action center that you almost had to take a cab to get there. We reluctantly accepted this compromise because the downgrade was better than the original ( but they didn't offer a refund for the downgrade!) Time to take a breath and give you my first words of advice. Don't expect any help at all from the booking agents, not because they don't want to but because they are powerless to do anything from a distance. Don't expect any substantial help from Sunwing 'cos Canto's hotel management doesn't respect them or their business AT ALL. You're on your own. Now we're settled in it's time to take a look around the place. As I've said , the hotel itself is OK.. maybe a two star at best but all of the furniture is old and battered, the washrooms are constantly blocked, closed or under repair (the pool washrooms were out of order for the entire two weeks we were there) The elevators are powered by a donkey turning a wheel somewhere in the basement, so slow you could climb ten sets of stairs in the time it takes them to cover one floor. Don't go to this place if you want handicapped accessibility, the stairlift doesn't work and even if it is working, it only goes up one floor and the one elevator doesn't have any room for a large wheelchair. One unfortunate couple were left stranded getting to their room and had to go OUTSIDE the building to find an elevator that could get them to their floor. Just another sign that the senior management at this place don't give a rodent's anal aperture about guest services. The domestic staff were quite nice although they themselves are on a strict economic budget. They restrict the number of towels they place in your room, no hand towels or washcloths, the cheapest soap imaginable, you couldn't get a bubble from it if you poured 7UP on it. The bed linen was so old and limp that you could spit through it NO ice machines for the guests in the entire place, no coffee machines in the rooms ........ , and the gym? Well the gym in Sing-Sing penitentiary is probably better equipped that this tiny little rabbit hut, strangely located next to a fabulous set of covered tennis courts where you had to pay to play. Anywhere you had to pay extra, they paid attention to. I'll take a moment to tell you just in case you think I'm being overly critical but I didn't encounter ONE guest who was happy with the place in the entire two weeks! And now we turn to the food. The buffet food was 90% INEDIBLE, I wouldn't feed it to my dog, although ironically dogs would probably like it 'cos it's mainly cold and mush. Just absolute canteen garbage. Pastas and potatoes were in heating trays that barely got them tepid and the meat that they served came from animals that weren't slaughtered, they must have just given themselves up. The bacon, eggs and hotcakes saved the day but the bacon was rationed like it was a refugee camp, sausages came from some animal we haven't yet discovered up in Canada. As for the specialty restaurants , we went to the Italian and they somehow managed to serve up a plate of stone cold ravioli (being able to do that in itself take some special type of incompetence ) The Lasagna they boasted of wasn't as good as the one we buy regularly from Costco and to be honest it looked like it HAD come from Costco. These cooks wouldn't last a half a day in Vancouver. We went a second time to the Italian (it being the only option of avoiding the buffet ). I ordered a dish that was a variety of three pastas and believe it or not they managed again to mix in some COLD tomato penne in with the two other types.. it's physically impossible to do that but somehow they pulled off the terrible task. Another guest had been to the Asian restaurant and in chatting to us told us that it was the WORST Asian food he'd ever had in his LIFE.. so we gave it a miss in favour of the Mexican palate. On a bit of a tangent ,Mexicans don't do beef very well and the one piece of carved beef I had at the buffet would have made a nice sole for my leather shoes. The menu at the Mexican place was no great shakes either, better food at Taco Bell that's for sure. The seafood in the tortillas was old and way past its "best by date " but you could stuff it inside yourself if you had a good appetite. The final scene at the Mexican restaurant leads me conveniently to the wait staff and the bar staff at the place. At the end of a mediocre spread, my wife gave the smiling waiter a 500 peso note and asked him to bring back 400 in change (I figured an $8 tip for a $40 so-so meal was pretty good) but he disappeared with the note , pretended that he'd forgotten about the change, mumbled and sniggered with the other staff (who were too slow to realize that I understood Spanish) and he walked past us about 5 or 6 times before I asked him where our moolah was. He acted offended, suddenly couldn't understand a word of English (or Spanish for that matter) and sarcastically said that he'd sent the note to the hotel next door for them to make change , none of the other waiters intervened so I lost my rag and told him to give me my money back. He didn't want to, of course, but he made the mistake of waving it in front of my face so I grabbed it and told him in both Spanish and English that he would be getting sweet F.A. from me for his "Ladrona" type behavior. He was not a happy camper but I was, 'cos I'd got my money back. I reckon that these guys see a gringo and figure that 500 pesos is chicken feed so most of them won't complain. Wrong person muchacho! So folks, there you have hard story on the food quality and the real nature of the staff. None of the staff in the entire complex will break up large notes for you , not reception nor the bell boys. They are especially reluctant to change US$ notes (because then you'll be obliged to give a bigger tip if they don't ) If you do get one to grudgingly change say, a 100 peso note, then you'll only ever get 80 back 'cos that's the cost of doing business down there. Even the banks won't change notes in P.V., so my advice is to get a big wad of US$ one dollar bills before you leave and you can sprinkle them around as you see fit . They seem to be happier getting greenbacks than those worthless pesos, plus you'll be able to spend what you've got left over when you get home. And finally a bit more about the hotel environment, the beach is unswimmable because of the strong undertow ( and it's like that in the two glamorous hotels either side.) The general locality gets pretty seedy off the main road and there are homeless camps on scrubland vacant lots , failed developments and eyesores just steps away from the luxury. You have to be really careful while walking because there's holes and bumps in the sidewalks, missing manhole covers, cobbles that can turn your ankles and parapets that fall a foot and a half to the roadway I would not go to this place again even if they offered it to me for free, if a judge said "one month in jail or two weeks at the C*ño del Sol , I'd take the jail without a moment's hesitation. Some may disagree but that's the way I saw it. As for value, well we paid $5300 for the two weeks , Take out air fare of around $1500 Vancouver return for two adults and you're left with a hotel bill of about $3800, which works out to 270 bucks a night ( one night of which you don't get any food) I wouldn't pay a dime more than $50 a night for this place, even all inclusive (in fact you should pay less for all inclusive) But truth is I wouldn't even pay a single dime 'cos I'd never ever stop at the place again It won't be here in a couple of seasons from now even though there's a tourist boom on.

Our stay at this hotel was excellent. The service was great, meals and drinks were always well looked after, and the 3 special dinner restaurants were 2nd to none. Definitely would stay here again and recommend to others.

Where to begin? We’ve been going to this resort for 7 years now. We have been going to PV for 25 years but 7 years ago due to some life changes we decided to look at doing our dental work in PV. Which brings us to staying at the Canto Del Sol… it’s within walking distance to the clinic. Things have definitely changed over the years and not for the better. I understand that during Covid the hotel needed to change who their clientele was going to be. They focused more on people having wedding. Which on the surface sounds amazing. What women out there doesn’t love to see what the bride is wearing?!? Lol. But the way the hotel is designed when it comes time for the reception you are included in it wether or not you want to be. The location is right in the middle of outside living. Which also includes all the rooms facing towards the pool and ocean. At one time time it used to be a time limit of 11. However it is now closer to midnight so forget about having a relaxing evening or staying in and watching TV. The other issue is the hotel doesn’t have an adult pool. Even the swim up bar has young children in it. Even tho there are 3 other pools for the kids to go in and play. One reason I think this happens is because on check in they aren’t told about the wonderful kids waterpark which has a deep pool right beside it for the adults to swim in. I also wonder that even if they are told it maybe because there is no bar by that pool. Either way for us couples that don’t have children with us it becomes very annoying that we don’t get a break from the kids. The restaurants have stayed the same except for the buffet. It is the same as most buffets but some how before it seemed different. I just can’t put my finger on way. Now we get to the rooms. They are tired! We received towels with threads hanging off of them and holes. You wont receive a facecloth and when I asked why I was told that it was a different person the “did that” lol. Like there was a lady walking around handing out facecloths lol. And when they did restock the rooms you were lucky to get enough towels for the amount of people who stayed in the room. The taps leak the shower has no pressure and the water doesn’t get any warmer then lukewarm at the best. My sister’s shower wouldn’t turn on. She mentioned it to the front desk and was told that it would be fixed that day while we were out. It wasn’t! She finally figured out how to play with it so it would turn on. The staff are amazing as always ! Although when you ask them to do something their response is always oh management won’t let us do that. Something as simple as changing the music to something more upbeat. You can also tell when there are more English speaking clientele instead of when they locals are there for their hotels. Please don’t get me wrong I totally understand that we are visiting their country but we spend a lot of money doing that. Which brings me to the next issues… the rating. There is no way this hotel is a 5 star and you are definitely pushing it to say it’s a 4 star. If the price reflected what you received I’d have no complaints but the hotel is up there with some well known Brand Name hotels that deliver a 5 star treatment.

We were very pleased with everything st Canta Del Sol. Was everything perfect no, but food was great, a la Cartes. awesome pools great, sun was nice and warm, staff awesome, food places open at night, bar service on beach and by pool. There was entertainment nightly. No complaints as some hotels closed at 6 no food no bar

The Canto Del Sol came highly recommended to us by some friends who had stayed there many times over the years prior to Covid, so we were really excited to go there. First of all, the good... The resort has a really authentic Mexican feel to it - the resort is old and could definitely use some updating but the rooms, pools and buildings are kept extremely clean. Our room was a standard room - nothing fancy - no fridge or even a coffee pot, but the room was comfortable and clean. Our one complaint about the room was that the air conditioner was noisy (so noisy that we had to turn it off at night because we couldn't sleep), but we did not address this with the management at all, so that was on us. We understood that the resort had a time share, but you wouldn't know it. Wifi was free and worked well in our room and in the lobby area. Pool and buffet access was sketchy. The buffet had a good variety of fresh, tasty food (although after 2 weeks we were getting a bit tired of it). Most of the dishes tended to be Mexican type food, but hey, we were in Mexico. The specialty restaurants had excellent food. Unfortunately, they tended to be hard to book. You were given a coupon for every 2 days at the resort....unfortunately, quite often we were told that the restaurants were fully booked and it was impossible to get a reservation. We were unable to use all 7 of our reservation coupons due to them being "full". However, not once in the six times we ate at the various restaurants were any of them actually full. All of the staff were marvelous - cleaning staff, servers, pool bartenders. No complaints at all. Special thanks to Fernando, Pedro and Alex. You made our vacation special. Now for the not so good... The beach is not a nice beach. Be very, very careful swimming there as there is a very strong undertow. Also swarming with people selling things, but not aggressively - security made sure of that. The snack bar by the ocean that is open for lunch is AWFUL. Extremely sub-par food. They serve hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, etc. Do not waste your time. We like to tip the staff for all their hard work and while we bought pesos in Canada, we didn't get enough small bills for tipping. This is the first resort we have ever been in where the front desk did not want to break larger bills into smaller ones. It's not like we were asking for currency exchange, simply breaking $500 peso bills into smaller denominations. We were rudely told that they were not a bank. Even though this is an all inclusive, only 2 bottles of water were provided. Eventually we discovered that there were water dispensers in the hallways where you could refill them, but we were not told this. We were told that if we wanted extra water, we would have to go across the street and buy it. And last but not least, the weddings..... During our 2 week stay, there were 6 weddings. Four of them had music blaring until the wee hours of the morning that was louder than a jet aircraft. Our room was in the back of the building facing the tennis courts and it was loud and clear even while wearing ear plugs. For this reason alone, I could not recommend this resort to anyone, nor would I stay there again. This was a complete disregard to most of the guests in the resort. It was terrible. Apparently, the ownership had changed hands in 2022 and this information leads me to believe that they have perhaps decided to market more closely with the local market than tourists from abroad. This is, of course, their option, but I know that in future, my vacation dollars will be spent elsewhere.

Just got back from a great week at the Canto Del Sol in Puerto Vallarta. The whole package was handled perfectly by Sunwing. Flights were on time, transportation to and from the resort exactly as (and when) promised. The resort itself was great. Wonderful food, comfortable room, clean and well maintained grounds. 7 days of perfect weather.

The lobby and lounge area had no A/C. It was very uncomfortable due to the heat and humidity. The food was very simple with nothing that really stood out. When we first checked in, they put us in the old part of the resort which was not shown on the website. The room was very small and dated. I went to the desk and asked to be upgraded , which cost an extra 600 pesos per night. On the positive side the staff were very nice, and the specialty restaurants were very good.

We had a great time at this hotel. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Nobody looked unhappy. Beds were very, very hard but they have foam layers that they can put on top of your bed. I had 3 layers on mine and it was much better. Rooms were clean. Food was tasty. Only managed to get to one a la carte - Mexican….it was excellent. Food and service. Please tip these waiters. Kids club was the only downside. Not many activities and parents were expected to hang around. Any kids club I have gone to at other resorts have always taken the child for a few hours. Not the case here. Was surprised to find a kids pool on my second day. Hotel did not provide map of resort so I was not aware that there are 3 buildings for the resort. Hotel is about a 20-25 min walk to downtown or pay 10 pesos for the bus. Very easy to take. Puerto Vallarta is one of my favourite interactive vacations. It’s very safe Enjoy.

When a hotel states luxury suite and charges more for the room, your expectations are higher. Not the case in this hotel. Luxury only means you have a balcony that over looks refrigeration systems and garbage located on the roof. We had to sign a waiver to accept a down grade to get a room that overlooks the pool area and ocean. Just the better view alone in our eyes was an upgrade. So we ended up spending more for the description of the room then what we actually received as the room descriptions are very inaccurate. The rooms are very dated and the floors need to be replaced as they have seen too many years of feet. With the many Iguanas onsite, it was very common to see Iguana feces in the pool with no staff caring to remove it from the pool. Needless to say, my pool time was terminated. Food was very average, including A la Carte, and we did not get sick, so that was a bonus.

CONS: Took us 3 tries to get decent room. First 2 rooms - bathroom door wouldn’t close, taps leaked. One bathroom did not have ceiling or light and wires were hanging down. Third room was improvement but still leaking taps which were never fixed. Lounge chairs at main pool could not be adjusted - could not sit up. Couple of days lounge chairs were difficult to come by. My party would have liked more dancing. Some furniture in restaurant and bar areas definitely needs upgrading. PROS: 3 pools available were fine. Plus nice splash pool and a shallow area for little ones. Buffet food fairly good/average. Plenty of selection. Enjoyed the 3 restaurants we attended. Most nightly entertainment pretty good. Majority of resort employees were great. There was hand sanitizer available throughout resort.

The food (especially buffet) was not great, but italian restaurant was good (depsite missing menu items). Staff were very friendly and helpful. The price of this resort allowed us to explore what else Puerto Vallarta had to offer.

This is our second stay at Canto. We would not hesitate to return again. The staff over all are really good and a few go way over and above and treat you like family. We met several guests who have been going there for years and plan to go back next year. We had an issue with the faucet in the bathroom and it was addressed right away. It became an issue again and again it was fixed right away and was fine for the rest of our stay. The staff stepped up to the increase of guests do to the end of Covid as last year some parts were closed down because of Covid. The 3 pools were open as well as all 8 restaurants and all were busy. We appreciated the selections that gave us. When we look for a vacation to PV we compare everything to Canto and unless prices there severely increase compared to other places, we will definitely return. Note that the pools were great. It is on the beach but the Pacific is quite rough and space on the beach is limited. For us it is a good beach to walk but not to swim.

This was my 7th time at this resort. I loved it here. The staff knew my name when I arrived. My room and checkin usually flawless without delay. Food was amazing, specialty restaurants rocked, and staff second to none. This time not so much. As soon as I arrived, I felt it was different. I did get the "welcome home" greeting, which in my mind is a wonderful touch, and put you at ease right away. I arrived at 11 am and was sent away until 3pm. That never happened before. Usually, I got my room straight away. No matter, I went to the pool. Hardly anyone around. I was shocked. I found my friends at the pool, but half of them were in bed, sick from the food from the snack bar. The hamburgers we suspect. Others at the resort were also sick. The next day my friend and I went to get towels. She asked for 7...no problem. I asked for 2 and the staff wanted my towel cards which I did not receive when I checked in. So, off I go to the front desk waited 15 min and got my cards. Back to get towels. As for the pool...before you could swim up to the bar to get drinks and sit in pool. This time, closed. Also, no drink cups in or around the pool. I didn't know this from past experiences. I had my plastic cup sitting at pools edge and the security guy "Carlos" marches towards me and scolds me for this cup. No signs, no mention upon checkin about no drinks by pool. OK. Friends and I are sitting poolside, and a woman who was very drunk, passed out by the pool. So we placed her on a lounger to sleep it off. We covered her with a towel so not to get burned. Carlos marches over again and takes the towel off and says it's not hers. Then he stands guard by her for no reason to show some sort of authority. So now this guy really needs an attitude check. He's been at this resort for a long time and clearly need's a new job. Food Horrible horrible horrible. Buffet was always cold. Key is to get in when meal times start. Breakfast is the best for the eggs are made to order. The buffet and salad bar use to be huge and wonderful. My friends had to take their kids to KFC and McDonald's because there was no kids food and struggled when she asked for fries. I went to buffet during the day and in 7 days, 21 meals, i was offered a beverage twice. Totally ignored the rest of the time. The specialty restaurants (surf and turf) was booked solid for 2 weeks so nobody could get in. I went out to eat. I lost weight though..lol. The snack buffet use to have good food..not now. You also use to be able to have breakfast at the snack bar by the water...not anymore. One day there was no power due to maintenance, but we felt no interruption. The hot water is juuuuuust hot enough for a shower at all times. Building is in dire need of maintenance and renovation. I was very happy to go home. As I left my room, I grabbed my suitcase and a huge cockroach fell off the handle. I stepped on it so the maid would see it. Never, ever going back. Neither are my friends, nor others we spoke to. It's a shame. It use to be so good. That's why I kept going back. They have lost many loyal guests.

Older hotel but well maintained and very clean. We were booked in Villa section, which was very old and far from main area, no view. Second day we asked to change to main section, but had to pay extra for upgrade. We were happy with the room, and all went well. The staff at Canto Del Sol was excellent and couldn,t do enough for us. Dining areas were kept clean, and Covid protocols were in place. Food was tasty, and plenty of variety. Specialty restaurants were fairly good as well. Overall the resort had good value for your money.

Very close to airport (10 minutes) so a bonus . Resort grounds were well kept. Beds were comfortable , room bathroom was showing it’s age , leaky toilet tile cracked in shower , and shower quite discoloured and not very clean . Our balcony was very tiny with just one very old chair , but we didn’t plan on spending lots of time on it . Staff were pleasant . Pool area , dining area were clean. Main dining hall was very busy tried to avoid prime times to avoid lineups to get in .Food was lukewarm , but we mostly ate what was cooked fresh in front of us. Nightly Entertainment was good .

The grounds were beautifully kept, the staff was incredible and the food was awesome. We would recommend this resort to our family and friends. We will also come back for another visit. George and Pedro were the best servers at the pool.

I chose Canto for my first solo trip because of its location and size. It was perfect. My room was great - central to everything and had a nice partial ocean view and pool view (no balcony however). The food is good - buffet is not huge and not a lot of variety but tasty. I ate at the Japanese, Italian and Surf and Turf. All were good but Italian was probably the best. Surf and Turf is by the ocean so try to get a sunset seating. I also tried the ceviche while at the "quiet" pool - very good but the shrimp ceviche was muy caliente so beware! Loved the octopus ceviche. There was some nightly entertainment. Could do without the karaoke and trivia but the bands playing in the lobby were awesome for 2 nights. There was one show in the conference room behind the lobby bar... great entertainers but not very comfortable in that room. There was only one show outside on the stage by the ocean as this area hosted weddings for 3 nights and surf and turf meal 1 night. Most days had no trouble getting a chair at the pool except when the weekend arrived and so did many, many locals (for the weddings). My biggest complaint is the beach. There were no huts or umbrellas or even loungers available when I arrived. I love laying by the ocean so this was a big deal for me and many others. By Wednesday the palapas appeared and then by the weekend the loungers were back - very few so impossible to find one open. Some said the old palapas were damaged by the storm so perhaps my visit was just bad timing. The beach is very small and rocky as well. Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. People who work there were all very nice but I don't know if I would return because of the beach.

I would stay there again. Its excellent location For everything ,shops to theAirport. Kids frindly.The only thing we didn't like the bathroom need to update. Everything else in the resort is nice. We really enjoyed our trip staying in the resort. I will definitely recommend to my family and friends.

Spent a week at the resort, we were placed in the rear villa's which was a very short walk to the main resort. The pool by the villa's was quiet and had bar service all afternoon. We found all the pools, bar, restaurants and bathrooms always very clean. Rooms were nice but nothing fancy just a room. Food at the buffet was very limited with the same selection on both sides of the buffet line, there was no pasta station or really any fresh grill options. There was still aways something to eat and there was also other option at the resort to eat including the snack bar (very popular for lunch) and 3 specialty restaurants which we only tried the Italian and was not a huge fan. Only recommendation to the resort is to ad more option to the buffet, other then that great resort and great people.

The hotel was very clean,it was very safe as everyone wore masks, meals were served behind plexi glass, all fruits, desserts, and breads wrapped on individual dishes, distancing at speciality restaurants, staff are excellent, always trying to please you, grounds are beautiful and rooms very clean. I would say they take more precautions there, than some of our Canadians about staying safe.Rena gives the best water aerobics class.

Bright and family friendly resort with a good food and entertainment. Great location: not too far from the city. Nice and welcoming staff. The condition of the rooms is good but could have some minor renovations and upgrades.

Hotel room was a little under our expectations but other facilities were good. The entertainment group was excellent. All the Time they we’re looking to make you happy and feel good. This group it’s doing very good job.

The service at this resort is second to none. Staff is friendly and go out of thier way to make your stay as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Food in al la carte restaurants is amazing especially the surf and turf outside by the ocean. The buffet is ok. Drinks are good and plentiful. The wine was good but the champagne was horrible. I loved the late afternoon tea and cookies. Great after a day at the pool or excursion. We were there the first week in December and watched the unveiling and lighting of the Christmas tree and the manger. Quite a celebration. Hot chocolate mulled wine and tons of shortbread and other treats. Children from the orphanage sang carols along with other seasonal entertainment. The rooms were nice, clean and comfortable although the balconies were very tiny. I loved that were we so close to shopping and conveniences. I would totally recommend this hotel to couples, singles or families.

Our family of 7 including a 7 yr. Old stayed at CDS Nov 25 to Dec 2nd. Grounds, rooms, pools, restaurants were extremely clean. Not much of a beach but pretty views from our room. Food was excellent especially surf and turf and Italiian. Resort does fill up on weekends with Mexicans but did not affect service other than at breakfast. Long line ups. So go for breakfast at 7 and avoid it. Only one complaint. The quiet pool should be adults only as only place to get away from crowded family pool. We spent all of our time here as was much quieter but would have been nice to not have the screaming and splashing. Big thanks to Francisco at quiet pool. A true gentleman and the hardest worker on the resort. He always kept our drinks refreshed. Kevin in guest services also a gem. The Christmas display was awesome!!!!

The hotel is a little older however this does not negate the impeccable cleanliness and care that is given to the grounds and common areas. I recommend the Italian and Mexican themed restaurant choices. The buffet and beach restaurant serve up an excellent selection of choices for breakfast and lunch. The pool area is very well maintained and the beach is adequate. Access to the beach is simple and walking either direction for some exercise is a pleasure, beach shoes are a good option. Tipping is important ,50 pesos goes a long way for better service (bar, pool, beach). 200 pesos if using the specialty restaurants.

Our stay was mostly enjoyable however it was very busy and very noisy. The resort was kept very clean for amount of families there. The rooms were fairly nice except we only had a dribble of water for a shower and never knew if you were going to get hot or cold water. The food was good. Basically the same all the time. We weren't aware of a Mexican holiday with so many children out of school. They definitely took over.

Yes, this was my second stay at rhis beautiful hotel and i had a wonderfully relaxing time. My vacation started as iI was checking in, when i was greeted by one of the staff offering a beverage, and a "Welcome home". From the Canto, you really do get to see the sun dance as it sets - every evening is a new experience of beauty. The food is very good,. You need to try the three gourmet restaurants - by the way, three gourmet meals are free for each person. You have to have the Spanish coffee at the Santa Maria. That alone is a work of art that is worth the trip. I was very comfortable I throughout my stay. This is a great resort and it is very family oriented. I had my family with me on my last visit. For this trip I was focused on diving with one of the scuba shops on the Malexon. Oh yes, the Malecon promenade in downtown Puerto Vallarta is only an 80 peso taxi trip from the Canto.

Canto Del Sol was an awesome place to relax and enjoy time with my daughter!!! The food was good. Always something different to try!!! The hotel was immaculate!!! Our room was simple but clean and all we needed to rest our heads at the end of days in the sun!!! Showers were perfect. We were on the first floor and zero water pressure problems or cold water issues!!! Entertainment was fun!!! Hotel close to all activities. We ventured out for two days on excursions and it was very simple and cheap to get to excursion meeting points. Never once did we feel unsafe and we left the resort often to check things out!!! We met handfuls of people who were staying at the Canto Del Sol for their 3rd 4th 5th 6th + stays!!! I would definitely go back!!! Puerto Vallarta is beautiful!!!

Buffet was ok same food as 4yrs ago. A la carte was good Rooms ok but they try to give you a crappy room unless you complain Activities not near as good as 4 years ago Hotel seems to mostly cater to time share people/seniors now which is fine if wanting a quieter place

We booked this resort thinking it would be good. It was, and more! The staff was friendly and helpful, everything was clean, the food and selection was excellent, and the drinks were cold! Very favorably impressed.

This resort is situated close to everything, the staff are hard working and friendly. My only negative review would be that guests reserve all the chairs around the pool so early you cannot get a place to relax, this also happens at the beach. Although there are signs posted you cannot do this it happened everyday. This resort is a little older but well taken care of, and most of the guests are repeat which says alot. I would recommend this place to others, the price is good but do not expect 5 star quality you will not get it here, but you will be confortabe and you will be fed good food

Stayed at Canto del Sol from February 1st - February 8th Sunwing flight delay both ways 2 hours, but that was not a surprise almost expect it with Sunwing, besides that the resort is fantastic the staff also fantastic, love every minute of our stay from walks along the beach to shopping just right outside our Resort a taxi cab to the malecon ranges between 8 US Dollars and 10. This was our second time staying at Canto Del Sol the first time was across the street at the Villas this time at Canto Del Sol Plaza, we definitely enjoyed the plaza more the meals were all very enjoyable with plenty enough to choose from. The pool was heated which was great because there's always a breeze coming off the ocean one little irritating issue was that the swim up bar was closed most of the day which meant you had to get out of the pool and walk around to the other side to be served although quite often you could order from a waiter that was walking by, Victor 1 and Victor 2 where the waiters that served us most times in the evenings and are fantastic. Can't say enough good things about the staff they were all so accommodating and lovely and sad to see us go. Beware when checking in the front desk will send you directly across to pick up your towel cards and your free gift this person will also try to talk you into going to the timeshare meeting they will not take no for an answer and I finally had to just walk away! Beside that we will definitely return one of our favorite resorts along with loving Puerto Vallarta.

Everything with our trip was fantastic. Very clean resort, really good selection of food and drink. Very friendly and helpful staff. Spent most of our time at the pool. Lots of activity for everyone. Look forward to going back.

This is a smaller resort, the staff make you feel at home! The place is sparkling clean! They are working non stop to keep it that way. Everyone was friendly. The restaurants were okay, if you don't like them you can walk almost anywhere to find what you want. Snack bar was awesome! Pizza, shrimp lots of choices! Jorge and everyone take care of you! They only down side we found - if your room turns out to be on the ground floor and you look out to the restaurant - move! They start around 5am and that is the end of your sleep! Excellent location. Only a bus ride down town or a 25 min walk. Lots going on around the resort. Excellent place, would return.

This is a nice resort and good value for the money. The rooms are clean and it is well maintained. Unfortunately I got food poisoning (believe it was the buffet) but I guess this can happen anywhere. There is stage show every night and it is very good. The speciality restaurants present a very nice meal with very good waiters. The elevators (or lack there of) leave something to be desired. The location is right on the beach but only about two blocks off the main road in to Puerto Vallarta. You can catch a bus that will take you to the town centre for seventy cents. For Canadians who are interested in hockey, there is a lively bar on the street with televised games. Good place to stay. We have been there five times and will return again.

Hotel was very clean,staff so friendly and welcoming, food was good;delicious at the restaurants.Easy to catch a bus downtown.Close to banks I just wish it was a closer walk to the malecon/town.Many I met were repeat clients.

Excellent staff including Jorge, the best server in Mexico! Good food, very clean, great wifi. Superb value. Beach area is only negative. I've been going to pv for 20 years, many different hotels. This is my fav!

This is our third time at this resort. The charming atmosphere and excellent food make for a relaxing holiday. There are lots of activities including the tennis club. It feels like home away from home. The resort is walking distance from town and the marina. Lovely time!

It is very clean, impressive how clean it is. The staff are great. My complaints are few: I would have preferred to be able to reserves more a la carte, as I am not a buffet fan and was only allowed 3 on a 7 day stay. And I found there is not enough shade around the pool area.

I found the pool area courtyard especially beautiful with perfect tile work and gorgeous plants and large palm trees. Especially striking is the Sunset with that view through the palms. The beach is disappointing we did not even bother with it. Very small and a hangout for the smokers. There was a serious problem with birds during the first few days. A constant onslaught of pigeons and other smaller birds. I saw the staff more than once trying to keep them out of the food and salad bar. Without trying to be dramatic it was like being in a certain Hitchcock film. The blackbirds would swoop down enmass to the pool. I nearly was hit in the head more than once. It was disgusting and extremely uncomfortable trying to eat outside. Finally a Falcon and handler arrived which made all the difference. I do not blame the resort for the birds but clearly there was an option all along. A falcon MUST always be present. Otherwise a nice resort, very pleasant hard working staff from servers to front staff to the entertainment staff. We once by mistake forgot to close the safe in our room and the safe door left wide open with all our passports my wallet full of cash, the room cleaners did not touch it, very honest people, very impressed. The food in the ala carte restaurants was wonderful, truly first rate.

This resort felt like home away from home. The staff were kind, friendly and helpful from the maids to the bellboys, the waiters to reception. The hotel is off the main street making it quiet and restful, the grounds are lovely and the entire resort is clean and well kept. Dining was very pleasant, the food was not exceptional, but quite acceptable. This resort has a very Mexican flavour which is exactly what we were looking for.

Overall the hotThe rooms seemed small and only 50% will get an ocean/pool view, the rest get the side of a building, balconies are about 2x8'. Food was good, drinks were good, service was good but many times they didn't understand what was being asked, so they would smile and nod, or say yes and walk away. Now that I have been there, and if the price is right I would return.

Great place for a vacation. Close to marina if going on a boat trip. Beach access, 2 pool areas, friendly staff, really enjoyed our stay here. Only negative is the smoking area on the beach which if you want to go to the beach you cant avoid the second hand smoke.

Second time at resort. Service was great. Food was great. Could use a bigger drink menu. Evening entertainment was ok. Could use more entertainers and bigger variety of acts. Hated fact that all pool and beach chairs were reserved so early despite having “No Reservation” signs everywhere. Didn’t think it should be necessary to get up at 7 am to reserve a chair. People should be MORE CONSIDERATE!!!

This hotel was not only a beautiful place, it was staffed by some of the friendliest and helpful people I have met. Access from pool to room is easy and not a far walk. Activities for children and adults were amazing and the access to food was available 24 hours. The hotel is situated right on the beach and within walking distance to a huge mall, and the Malicon. Al la carte restaurants are superb. Variety of food and drinks is amazing. I recommend this resort for anyone looking for a clean, comfortable and friendly resort

the common areas and rooms are well taken care of. generally the pool and daytime entertainment is good. the restaurants for the most part offer mexican style cooking and a decent selection. close to downtown and airport, very convenient. staff is outstanding.

Great Resort, Close to downtown, bus out front, taxis available. Great service as usual. Always meet great people vacationing also. Have been there 4 times and will go back as do other vacationers year after year.

We travelled to this resort at the end of January. The staff was excellent, great food and the rooms were very clean. The overall atmosphere was relaxing. This was our first time to canto del sol and we will definitely go back.

It was clean and the staff were so friendly, the food was very good The washrooms were clean and service was prompt and frequent Dislikes were smoking in restaurants and eating areas and too many vendors on the beach I do understand both but still annoying

Our rooms were great, clean with T.V and a safe for valuables, ladies looking after the rooms were very fussy. The three restaurants were clean and the food excellent. The buffet food was very good and plentiful. The large patio area was very clean also and the servers fast and very efficient. The hotel staff was very friendly, helpful &:courteous. Was our second visit and plan to again

The resort was clean the food was great and the service was very friendly. If you are looking for a place to sit and relax and play so Tennis put this one on your list. The beach is small yet quite. Nice location if you want to walk into the old part of town. Need to amp up the night time shows a bit but still entertaining and good for a laugh.

We spent a week at the Canto del Sol in mid-December. This is a very nice, fairly small 3 or 3.5 star resort for the price. Along with the Buenaventura, it is one of the two best-rated mid-level resorts located near the downtown. The pool is moderately sized (but there is also a “luxury” pool with few people along with a large kiddy pool, out back, beside the indoor tennis courts). Kevin of the activity staff does an excellent water aerobics class at noon. More generally, staff were consistently fun and nice (front desk, guest services, waiters, etc.). The beach is small and rocky, though it looks directly west – fantastic views as the sun goes down. A reminder for guests – salaries are low in Mexico and you really should tip – rooms, food, bar service… (we probably tipped about 80-100 pesos per day in all - equivalent to 5-8 CAD, or US $4- $6. Best to tip in pesos, though USD are ok too). Guests have an hour per day tennis (with rackets and balls provided), but you should reserve early at the gym. Rooms – we were in ocean-facing rooms in the middle on the 3rd floor (I think the 4th floor is mostly time-share). One of our rooms had a balcony, the other not (ask for a balcony when you reserve!). Good beds, shower pressure, decent flat-screen TV (with only a couple English-language channels and no French), and an electronic safe included. This is an older resort with fairly renovated rooms, but don’t expect Hyatt or Hilton luxury (for that, expect to pay more for a higher-end resort). Rooms on the 2nd floor center would have blocked views, though they’d be fine from the side wings of the resort as long as you faced the pool. Cheaper rooms that do not fact the pool area would not be as nice. It is easy to get downtown – about 80 pesos taxi to the centro (around 120 pesos to the south side) or just walk out to the main street 100 m away and hop on a bus listed centro (7.5 pesos per person) or, for the southside only, tunel. You could walk to the northern edge of the Malecon in about 35-40 minutes, along the road (not real interesting) or along the beach in front of other resorts, though at times you might get your feet wet and have to clamber over rocks. Also at the main street intersection there are two banks with ATM machines - safe places to withdraw money, and a block further down that street towards the centro is a Mega very large supermarket – a good place to buy tequila… The buffet food was pretty good, especially considering the cost of the resort – the dinner menu changes every day, but always has a Mexican area (quesadillas…), a pasta bar area and good salad, fruit and dessert choices. We tried two of the three specialty restaurants. The Italian one was IMHO excellent while the Surf and Turf was very ordinary. House wine by the glass (red, white and I think bubbly) was free and better than in most AI resorts, though in the specialty restaurants you can also pay for a bottle with several options. They try to accommodate vegetarians in all restaurants, although it is good to advise the guest services desk of you diet upon arrival – they will help some when needed if you can’t find what you need. At the bars, you can request higher quality alcohols (but you'd likely have more luck if you speak in Spanish) – again, a better quality than we had for free at several other resorts (Fiesta Americana, Holiday Inn, etc.). Evening entertainment was sometimes campy and not really professional – as is the case in most other AI resorts. Only the early evening mariachi band on the Mexican evening was of real professional quality. We ate out twice and I’d really suggest others do too – PV has too many good restaurants (plus places with live music in the evenings) to remain prisoner of your AI resort. We ate at two exceptionally good upper-scale but not outrageously priced places – Barcelona Tapas (get there early – fantastic views of sunset over the town especially from the top floor) and the River Café on the Isla Cual. Neither is a health-food restaurant per se - more foodie places - but both had a lot of choices for vegetarians (at the River Café, request their separate vegetarian menu). We also had drinks and appetizers at Casa Isabel - extraordinary views over the town and really moderately priced for very good food and drinks. For good restaurants, the hotel guest services can make reservations. For weekly evening music entertainment in town listed for every day of the week, look at the event listings on the vallartainfo website - a website that also has excellent maps and other info. Would we go back? Maybe – this is a real good place for the price if you are looking for a family-friendly AI resort close to all that the downtown. If I return alone, I’d opt for a non-AI place like the Tropicana or a rented apartment in the center, to better enjoy all the area has to offer.

So much I would love to say about the resort...lovely workers all around. Always willing to go the extra mile for you. The food was good, the only thing that was repetitive was the buffet, thankfully there was other choices. The staff by the pool we so AMAZING!!! The rooms, front lobby, pool side etc where always getting cleaned. This resort will be our yearly destination we loved it that much. Met so many new friends there, ones that lived there and ones that where there on vacation also! Thank you Canto Del Sol & Westjet Vacation for our 1st ever trip to PV, it will never be forgotten!!!

We were pleasantly surprised by the pool and grounds ... quite delightful and there were plenty of lounge chairs. The location is very convenient, but the beach is pretty small. The rooms need a renovation but are kept very clean. The only disappointing items were the front desk staff and the Kid's Club was definitely not on par with others we've experienced. We will return to PV and perhaps to Canto (if the price is right!)

We loved our spacious room. The king size bed was perfectly comfortable as well as the pillow. The buffet food always had something to our liking. The a la carte dinners were just okay although the service was impeccable each of the 3 times. The surf and turf dinner was the best with the best view of the ocean during sunset. A lovely experience. The grounds are well maintained and the hotel itself well cleaned. Our only disappointment was that children were allowed in the new adult swimming pool. It also seemed that there were always too many children in the other pool to really enjoy it. Next time we will not stay in an all inclusive as this seems to be the norm in the last couple of years. I would not recommend this hotel for the above reasons unless it was a family who did not mind all the children in the pool.

as usual Canto Del Sol brings the "relax" in relaxing vacations. pool service by Jorge is the best. and they just built a new pool on the opposite side of the complex, great for families and kids and keeps the beachfront patio a litttle quieter and less congested

We really enjoyed this resort, small in comparision to the Mega resorts, but it was really nice. The service was amazing, everyone was so helpful and eager to please. If there was a negative about this resort it would have to be the balconies, they are tiny. As far as food, it was good. There was always something to eat, really appreciated the included room service when we checked in at 2am. The beach is small but there are always enough chairs.

This was our second visit to the Canto del Sol Plaza Vallarta resort in Puerto Vallarta. The hotel is nice, but nothing spectacular. The rooms are good, beds comfortable. Rooms are cleaned very well. The staff work very hard to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Food is good. We don't drink alcohol, but there were many non alcoholic drinks to choose from. They have an Italian restaurant, a surf and turf, and a Mexican restaurant. Along with the snack bar and buffet restaurant to choose from. Food is really good in the the specialty restaurants. They have gluten free choices also which was good for me. The entertainment is enjoyable. The pools are really nice. They have water exercises daily along with volleyball in the pool. Lots of kid activities. They are really clamping down on making sure people don't leave their towels on the loungers for hours at a time and are not occupying them. The beach is not very large and there are several venders that walk along the beach. It's a short inexpensive taxi ride to the Malecon around 65 pesos. I would definitely stay there again.

We had a great 14 day stay at this resort. Met many people, who have been coming here for 14+ years.The food was excellent and the serves wonderful. Staff are really friendly and treated us like family. Grounds and pools are well kept and the rooms are clean and airy. Looking forward to a return visit.

We enjoyed our stay and havingcoming there for 7 years mostly at villas your sister hotel. Staff are friendly , rooms clean , food is ok can't complain. And most of all George who serves us drinks is the best . We meet at least 25 people at your resort for our reunion every year .

We spent 7 days at Canto Del Sol and had a nice relaxing time. When we arrived, check in was quick, there was no wait and the staff were friendly and informative. We did have an issue with our room, there was water pouring out of the light fixture over the sink area when we turned the light on. We advised the front desk and asked for another room, we viewed a few other rooms and the hotel was able to accommodate us with a new room in a great location that was in great condition. The only thing that I would recommend is that you ensure you are booking a room with Queen or King beds, we ended up with 2 double beds that were very hard. We were offered foam to put on top of the mattresses if we wanted but we got used to the mattresses and didn't bother with the foam. The staff are very friendly, upbeat and hard working. The hotel is kept immaculate, they are constantly cleaning and ensuring that the outside pool area and interior halls, etc. are clean, freshly painted and well maintained. The beach is beautiful with beach chairs, umbrellas and clean fine sand, very minimal rocks which makes it nice for getting in and out of the water. You do need to "save" your chairs fairly early in the morning at the beach and at the poolside if you want to get one (even though the signs say "no reserving chairs). There were activities throughout the day, volleyball, water aerobics, kayaking, bocce and a trivia type game. There was no poolside live entertainment which would have been nice for a couple of hours during the day. There was only one night that provided live music in the evening poolside. They do have a poolside bar that plays music and the bartenders are super. The food at the buffet wasn't the best. We stuck to the fruit, cheeses, salads and fresh items rather than going for the precooked dishes. The snack bar food was excellent, fish tacos, shrimp tacos, pizza fresh from the outdoor pizza over, hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, chicken fingers. You could order from there throughout the day into the early evening. The Surf and Turf restaurant was excellent .... beautiful setting on the patio overlooking the ocean and the food and service was outstanding. This resort is on the quieter side, nice for a relaxing vacation enjoying the beautiful beach and sunsets, I would recommend this one for the quieter, laid back more romantic vacation.

Two nights before coming home, I got very sick, and 2 days after I returned, spent 2 days in hospital. The bacterial infection I had was identified as really nasty, and sometimes fatal e-coli from contaminated food prepared by someone who didn't wash their hands after using the bathroom. I have stayed at this hotel before, twice, but found the standards generally to be much lower this time. It would appear that efforts are made to make the appearance clean and cared for, but the tennis centre is totally neglected, the lowered quality of entertainment forced on guests on Monday nights when the whole restaurant moves outside, and there were so many more out-of-control kids yelling and screaming, along with doors slamming at all hours of the day or night. I really doubt that I was the only guest that fell victim to this bacteria, and I hope no-one died! I will never go to this place again!

If you are looking for a great beach this place may not be right for you. The resort is older but very clean and has a friendly, fun atmosphere. We found the food to be great, the omelettes in the morning were very good and the variety at the buffet was adequate. The walk into downtown is approx. 30 minutes, we found it to be quite worth it, just to look around a little. The staff around the pool, Jorge running around to get everyone drinks, all of the pool bar bartenders and the extremely hard working folks at the busy snackbar were among some of the best staff I have ever encountered.

Canto del Sol was lovely. Nice pools, food was good and staff very pleasant. Some evening entertainment was great, others were a bit of a let down. Overall good. Try the Rhythms of the Night tour, it was great, even saw whales and dolphins and the crew were lots of fun.

Great hotel, stayed Dec 31 to jan 7. good location, approx half way between airport and Malecon. Rooms were ok, clean but a little shabby, comfy beds and pillows. Smallish resort made it easy to access restaurants and pools.

I really enjoyed my vacation at Canto del Sol hotel. It was my second time at this hotel and I will return 😀The New Year Fiesta was amazing !!! Everything was very well organized, the staff was very friendly, the food was very good, the show...everything.

Recent trip to Puerto Vallarta booked by Fred, in Canto Del Sol hotel / resort, smaller resort with great staff, very friendly good facilities, tennis players paradise, very clean hotel, staff will go above and beyond to make You happy, beach is a bit rocky at the water edge, overall would highly recommend, location is great short cab / bus ride to old town. The only negative that we have about the resort is the poor beach volleyball court because is so close to the water it is often washed away so it is very uneven (slanted) we like to play a lot on holidays so this is important for us, luckily next resort had a great volleyball court so we ended up playing there most of the time so as long as their patrons were playing we were fine

We have been to this resort , (and many others all over Mexico), over 20 times. We love puerto Vallarta. This resort is close enough to enjoy the downtown scene, and only ten minutes by cab from the airport. The service is excellent, the food is quite good, rooms are well appointed and clean. The beach area is a bit small, but the pools are nice. For great service by the pool, ask for Jorge. There are many great servers, however here. Feels like a family. We will be back there later in the year!

The Canto del Sol was pleasant. Food was good. The nightly shows lovely. They had some premium alcohol if that is important. I loved the pool. Location was very good as well. Cons: Only one bottle of water in the room per person and then you had to fill by the elevator; no guacamole (anywhere); used mix instead of real fruit in the drinks, otherwise was good

Beautiful resort, not a lot of beach. Both pools very nice and taken care of. Buffet was good lots of selection. Beds were awful and hard, no minimum fridges in rooms,given 2 warmore bottles of water every 3 days. Shower in room had absolutely no cold water.

We stayed at this resort last month and had a great time. Staff was great and our room was cleaned and always stocked.Large pool and a nice 2nd pool near some other activities. Drinks were great and always topped up,didn't hit a snag the whole trip.The main eating area was down for repairs so they had to make due with a smaller eating area but made due and The food was great

Overall clean clean clean! Staff are friendly and accomodating. Food was great but perhaps more variety needed. Conviently close to massages and souvenir shopping. 15 minutes to the airport! Always a lot to do.

We had no issues with anything, the only negatives we could see was that there was no activities for teenagers, it went from small children to adult activities. The beach was not usable to swim or walk in due to rocks all down the beach that made it hard on your feet and there was a large drop off about ten feet into the water (could not touch bottom, found this out the hard way).

Checking in: Check-in was very fast. The woman at the front desk was very nice. Initially they provided us with a room that didn't have any of the requests that I made - higher floor, king bed and balcony. However, as soon as we came back to the front desk, she quickly resolved it (even though those are requests subject to availability). I enjoyed the customer service that she provided me with. I was impressed with her, as usually they don't want to change your room or they make you wait a few days. Pool/Beach: Pool was great! In fact there was 2 of them - one for adults (never really made it there) and the general pool with a pool bar and a snack bar near by. I have never been to a resort with so many lounge chairs available!!! There was so many that it was hard to choose where to sit. That being said, the hotel in my opinion was pretty full. They had plenty of umbrellas available or would bring you one upon request. The beach is small, but very close to the resort and pool. I went into the ocean several times, but it was a bit rocky (small rocks that you can walk on). It's not like a Cuban beach, but that is expected in that part of Mexico. So you will get what you expect. Food/Buffets/Beverages: The a-la-carte restaurants had a very good ambiance - the surf and turf is basically right by the beach - book during sunset and you will have the most romantic meal of your life. The Italian was so-so, although the short rib was not bad. The Mexican was my favorite in terms of food and how nice the staff was - it's apparently the least busy one. When you go - make sure you order the Mexican coffee - it's a show! The buffet was small. However, it always had something new every day - they themed the nights, in order to make it less repetitive. For breakfast they had a lot of different types of fruit, made to order eggs/omelettes and a bunch of other things. For lunch I went a few times and there was a good selection, but most days I opted out for the snack bar. At the snack bar (open till midnight) they had delicious fries (tried not to eat too many of those, but they were sooo good!), they had shrimp/fish tacos and some "North American" food such as hot dogs/hamburgers. Great service and delicious. For dinner the nights were themed - so depending on the theme you can book your reservations, or even better yet - go into town for a nice meal at least once! It's a $6 cab ride and they have amazing restaurants in town.(La Palapa was amazing although pricey) The bars were amazing! I spent most of the time at the pool bar (opened the latest and earliest). They had a good variety of international and domestic drinks. I drink vodka or rum and they had plenty of variety that I like. The tequila from what I'm told was also good. The bartenders and especially Jose are all great. The one thing that is a bit disappointing for me is that the bar closed at midnight. (you can still order drinks via room service, however I believe it's only 1 per night) In hindsight the bar closing early might have been a blessing in disguise! Rooms: The bed was a bit on the harder side, but very comfortable. The room had a nice plasma TV although we didn't turn it on and we had a little kitchenette. The room is a bit dated however. I would say that would be one of the areas that they could improve. I would say that the room was a 3 star, maybe even 2.5. Overall: This was a perfect vacation! I really loved the people that I met at the resort - both staff and guests. If you visit, you will have a great time! And please do go into town! What we enjoyed doing a couple of times was to walk along the beach (45 min? although please don't quote me on that as it's easy to loose time when the walk is so beautiful). I would recommend this resort to my friends.

This is a great place to stay. It is very well located, close to downtown and the boardwalk. The pool is lovely and the food at the buffet and the snack bar is very good. The grounds are kept clean and the room is basic but also clean and has everything you need. The staff are friendly and accommodating.

Food is always good, staff are friendly. Good bang for the buck so to speak. Location is fairly close to downtown which comes in handy if you plan on going out in the evenings. Numerous activities throughout the day and night. I have stayed at Canto Del Sol many times and will continue going back.

Hotel food and service 4* beach 2* location ok no problems with time share sellers or hassle on the beach.We had to get up early to get chairs in the shade at the pool but bar service was excellent at all locations. Rooms were clean but they need a update internet great in the room but slow outside near the pool

Very CLEAN. Staff is always cleaning floors, wall everything. Food was excellent at the three a la crate dinners. They went overboard for the Valentine supper. Five course meal. Buffet was good but not anything exceptional.

I have been many times to PV but this trip was very last minute so no picking and choosing, The resort was nice, lobby, lobby bar sitting area, the bathrooms by the lobby could use an update but they were functioning, 4 floor building we were on the 3 a view from every floor, our room didn't have a fridge (room service) and a balcony (we had wall to wall window that we opened) the was a disappointment but we adjusted but we had the VIEW which was great. Location was great close to the Mega store and other smaller stores and walking distance to the Malecon if you can walk. Food was very good didn't try the al a carts the buffet restaurant was good for me very good, the snack bar restaurant by the beach was very good you can order by menu or eat what they had out. The pool area was good they have a closed off section for kids. All in all very good.

The hotel was super clean and our room was also kept very clean. Food was excellent. The service was exceptional with waiters in all areas ready to serve you and all were very happy people. The beach area was good and had umbrellas if you needed or wanted shade. Also patio area near beach kept very clean with many tables and covers.

This hotel was so much fun and had great service. We would definitely go back. Beautiful ocean side view as well! If you are looking to spend time beside the pool and be waited on the whole time and not have to get up to the bar. This is the place:)

Well maintained and clean place. The staff were super nice and had anything we needed. Always had lots of food and drink. Beach was a bit rocky but still a beautiful view. Weather was perfect and location was fine.

We stayed in this hotel in February 2015 for 11 days. Overall impression is very good - rooms and area are super clean, food is delicious with many varieties, staff is friendly and very helpful. The territory is fairly small, so it might get crowd in times. At first we were booked into studio faced to the generator unit, which was very loud. We asked to relocate and the front desk offered two options - one was on a first floor facing pool area and second was a 1br suite on third floor facing the tennis courts. We happily took the last. It has a huge patio with two lounges on it, king size bed, pull out couch, love sit, kitchen with all dishware, microwave, fridge, etc. During our stay the toilet was plugged twice, but each time it was fixed withing 10 minutes. One day the door lock stopped working and it took them 15 minutes to replace the whole card reader unit from the door. Super friendly and caring personnel ! What we didn't like? Entry to the beach area occupied by smokers and every time you'll have to pass through their exhaust. Also the water activities are very limited, in fact the only ones available are ocean kayaks. It would be nice to have hobble cats, masks, fins, etc. Fine dinning restaurants are all good, although Italian seems too busy, which reflects on their attention to the details. Mexican is very good and Seafood's one has a magnificent view, try to book around sunset time. Once again we had a great time and would recommend this hotel

I enjoyed my stay at this resort. The grounds are kept very clean and neat. The employees are very good at their jobs. Friendly and helpful when asked. Our room was kept very neat and cleaned daily. We had wanted a balcony but were not lucky enough to get one. That was a little disappointing. We also understand this is a chance you take. The only complaint we have is not receiving a ocean view room which we paid for. This is not really available at this resort where we were because all rooms face the pool. If we had a balcony maybe could have gone out and seen the ocean but not from where we were. When you book do not bother to book an ocean view not worth the extra money. Food was good, a la carte very good, we tried all three. The service on the beach was very good. The beach was very nice but water is rough here. We have been to the Mayan four times so realized this would be rougher water. Overall enjoyed our trip and would return here.

I have no complaints. It was a friendly and clean resort. Jorge and Allen did a great job with the activities. The food was excellent at the specialty restaurants. The staff were very good. I would recommend this resort.

This resort has all the basics covered. It's clean, friendly staff, decent food, rooms are nice and well-maintained. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done at a reasonable price. The beach in PV is terrible however. Dark, rocky sand, polluted water and I got stung by a jellyfish. So if you only want pool-side action, it's fine, otherwise, stay on the East Coast.
