I will start my review with the positives charming older hotel, clean, very nice friendly staff.We had booked a superior room because it had a balcony we had a great ocean view. The location is great we love staying in old town as it is within walking distance of restaurants, bars, shops. What we didn’t know was that our room was an adjoining room. There were guests in the adjoining room and u could hear everything from coughing to sneezing to conversation. Another negative is there is no fridge or ice available at the hotel so we had to buy a cooler, ice and water.We stayed for 2 weeks so the cost did add up. The beach is very nice they have palapas and umbrellas but old wooden chairs that lounge back are rickety and not maintained. They should probably be thrown into a bonfire.It also is a public beach so u may have a great ocean until about noon people come and set up. The pools are heated it is a small area really cramped. This hotel could be so much better with some improvements .

Grounds,pools and beach area excellent. Could upgrade pool recliners. Hotel doesn’t guarantee double beds. You could end up in a King size. Restaurant nothing special. Morning coffee is good. Cleaning service was excellent. Room Price with Airfare a good deal. Included free transportation to and from airport.

Best location, old school vibes, comfortable, right on Pacific ocean, could not be a better combo than this. Big spacious rooms, working AC & TV, delicious breakfast, courteous staff. I loved it. Thank you so much for making my vacation memorable.

The Tropicana is located in the Romantic Zone, amid the cobblestone streets and directly on the beach. The rooms all have a balcony overlooking the grounds and the beach. The room is large and spotless; housekeeping cleans it and replaces the towels daily. The tv has Canadian, American and Spanish stations. The restaurant is clean with very attentive wait staff. We had breakfast included in our fee but it wasn’t a great idea because there was little choice. We basically ate the same thing every day. No matter, the hotel is close to literally hundreds of restaurants. The hotel had two lovely pools but not a lot of room around them for chairs. People lined up before 9 when the chairs were put out and threw their towels on them to reserve them and sometimes didn’t come back for hours. Although this is against the hotel rules, they didn’t enforce it. Before 8 am, people lined up to get the best chairs on the beach. No matter though as the staff brought out as many as needed, and they were under regular or palm umbrellas. The scenery and sunsets from our balcony were spectacular. I really loved this hotel and Puerto Vallarta, and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. I should mention also that it is evident that PV is very gay friendly. I was happy to see our lgbt+ brothers and sisters enjoy themselves in a beautiful, safe place where they are catered to.

The Tropicana Hotel in Puerto Vallarta is great value for your money. The hotel is very clean and the service was very good. They are continuously making improvements for example, this year a new beach grill. Last year, they installed wifi in all of the rooms. The breakfast plan options are limited, simple but adequate. It is worth the convenience and cost not to have to go out for breakfast. The security, gardners, reception staff, bellhops, pool cleaners, towel lady, cleaners and waiters all work extremely hard to provide an exceptional experience. One suggestion would be to upgrade the lounges at the pool and to provide additional plugs in the rooms. At times, the wait staff were short staffed on the beach, but they did their best to keep up with the demands. The location is perfect for exploring the Romantic Zone and there are restaurants and stores just steps away. It is easy to walk many places from the Tropicana Hotel.

This hotel has a great location on Los Muertos beach close to the pier. Very friendly and efficient staff, clean rooms and very good meals. Nicely manicured grounds. Enjoyed the daily happy hour and live music.

Have always loved the Tropicana. Still do, but had some issues this time around. Our flight got us into Puerto Vallarta late, like, 10:45 at night. Got to the hotel and checked in. Were put in a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the storage lot. Worst room in the place! Furniture was all chipped and peeling. Surface of the desk was almost non-existent. The next morning I went back to the front desk and told her we were not staying in that room for 2 weeks and that it was the worst room we have EVER been put in at the Tropicana. She told me they were full and maybe tomorrow if I come and speak to her there may be something else. Went down at 10:00 a.m. she was not in yet. Went down at 10:20 a.m., told another 20 minutes. Basically wasted that first day in Puerto Vallarta arranging a room. All was fine until I requested a later check out time on the 22nd of March, 2024. Again, come see us in the morning of that day. I did and was told it was full. Wasted our last day walking around wasting time until 6:30 p.m. for our arranged transport back to the airport. Which did not show up. Another couple waiting who booked through Sunwing had a no show. We all took cabs to the airport. Love the Tropicana but some of these issues are becoming too stressful for what should be a stressless vacation in Mexico!

BIG thing - shuttle bus did not wait until we were through long lines at airport and left without us. We had to take a taxi. No one we've talked to has ever heard of such a thing. small things - only one room key - inconvenient for 2 guests old style safe with key to unlock and avoid losing letting guests keep cabana chairs all day long with a towel while not at the beach or the pool need card in room explaining how phone works locally or between rooms another card could have list of TV channels

We stayed in their economy room which we will refer to as the dungeon The air conditioner at night would sound like a squealing plane so loud I recorded it and played it for them but would be fine during the day latch on the door had been broken off poorly kept room hole in shower ceiling. The hotel staff didn’t seem very happy that we were unhappy with our room told us the hotel was full yet walking around say loads of empty rooms the only positive was our maid super friendly and did a great job also for a no smoking hotel staff was eager to hand out ashtrays by the pool and in the restaurant. At check in we had to request our wristband for our paid breakfast and were given the wrong tv remote we had to have someone come to our room to figure that out. Back to the air conditioning when it squealed at night we would turn it off turn on the ceiling fan which made a loud squeak on every turn

We were very impressed with our stay at the Tropicana Hotel. I feel that it surpassed its 3-star rating in many ways. Jorge at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. We requested an Ocean View room, and he was able to move us into a beautiful room the next day for the remainder of our stay. It had a million-dollar view of the beach, pool, pier, and fabulous sunsets from the balcony. We had a standard room which did not have a mini fridge. Bottled water was only provided the first day. Since it is not recommended that foreigners drink the tap water, we purchased bottled water during our stay. The room was freshly updated, very clean and comfortable. The maid service was excellent. She cleaned and gave us fresh towels daily. The hotel was beautiful and very well kept. There were many people continuously cleaning and gardening throughout the hotel. Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby, restaurant, and pool area, but we were told that the hotel is in the process of providing Wi-Fi in the rooms. We had our breakfasts included for a very reasonable price. The full hot breakfasts were served at the hotel restaurant which was very convenient. We also ate lunch on the beach in the private Tropicana area most days and had a few dinners there as well. We thought that the menu at the restaurant, although not a huge selection, was very reasonably priced compared to other similar restaurants in the area. The waiters at the restaurant were very efficient and continuously attentive to details. The waiter on the beach, Ulysses, did a great job of bringing us whatever we wanted. The other employees on the beach; the security guard and the person who set up the chairs and palapas were always very friendly and quick to help. The Tropicana Hotel is located right on the beach and in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta. It is within walking distance to the old town along the Malecon or on the cobble stoned streets. It is close to many amazing restaurants, shops, and amenities. We will definitely return to the Tropicana Hotel. It is very good value for the money and is the perfect location for a relaxing beach vacation.

Check in was quick and easy. I was upgraded to an ocean view room. The room was large and clean. No wifi in the room, but it was easily available in the lobby so that was not a problem. The bed was a bit hard, but I was able to sleep well. I was visiting friends who live in PV so I did not take advantage of the beach or pool areas. I would stay here again.

One of the best maintained hotel grounds, garden and pool area in Puerto Vallarta. From the turtles to the flowering gardens, from the pool areas to the beach front, Tropicana is just stunning. Old style charm in the heart of gay Puerto Vallarta !

yes the resort needs some up upgrades. our room was clean and everything worked. Staff was great. pool was great. beach was great. short comings are WFi only in lobby, and the restaurant is bad..really bad. but everything else good. It is not fancy but works great for us. Also a mini fridge would be great.

We've stayed at the Trop a number of times, and have had good experiences. The central location near the action of old town can't be beat. Rooms are basic, but clean and most have great ocean views. Staff is generally friendly and helpful. Great pool with views of the water.

Bit of a bait and switch as what you've booked may end up being a very old, unacceptable, unrenovated unit on the second floor, or a very small unit with no balcony facing the street (versus the bay and a nice room). The place is a basic - 3* and could be a lot better with just a little bit of upgrading and support from the family ownership/management group. Staff try their best with what they have to work with.

After staying over 30 times in all inclusive resorts in hotel zone our stay in Tropicana was a nice break to enjoy the old town area ,the atmosphere ,food, etc ., Hotel was just great....nice room. excellent view , bed good , a/c excellent, nice towels and facecloth's, hair dryer... Tv was great,even CTV and CBC .Breakfast was not super ,but for $30/CDN /week..was ok..We never spent much time at hotel.but pool looked v good ,and the beach area and many palapas also . dec/2019 Saskatoon seniors

Tropicana is in a perfect location especially for gay travelers to PVR. The hotel is very clean and comfortable. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I've stayed here many times and have never been disipointed

The hotel is sort of need a bit of freshen up, they have a newer addition adjacent to the original building which is nicely appointed. The beach is nice with enough beach chairs and lounge chairs for everyone. The location is excellent as it is in the Zona Romantica rather than in the Hotel strip like Florida, it is within walking distance to everywhere in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Restaurants and Street Eats everywhere. Overall, it is good value for the price I paid, I enjoyed my stay there and I probably will return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tropicana. We knew it was going to be an older hotel but they have kept it up very well attending to details every day. The staff was all pleasant and we particularly appreciated Noemi and Marisela at reception. The views from the hotel are wonderful, especially from Superior rooms although our first night was in a Standard room and even it was oceanview. The information for the upgrade to Superior we had paid for hadn't been received by the hotel the first night but those ladies at reception got it handled and we were moved to a beautiful Superior room to make up for it. The location just can't be beat with all the live music and restaurants within minutes of walking, plus the beach is beautiful right in front of the hotel and you can watch all the activity from up on your own quiet balcony. We intend to go back to the Tropicana again...as soon as possible!

The Tropicana is right in the heart of Old Town.....you can walk everywhere. The grounds are lovely, 2 nice pools and a great beach. Some of the rooms are getting tired but I believe they are upgrading as they can. We have stayed here a number of times because we love the location. It's not the Ritz by any means, but its very clean. Note: don't pay extra for the breakfast option!

It was my first time at The Tropicana but many friends were raving about it. The hotel is very well located. The rooms are big and comfortable and most have balconies. I was surprised at how quick and efficiently all the service requests were answered. The front desk staff is professional and courteous. The hotel is directly on the beach and the staff keeps it clean and there is bar service. All and all, I was satisfied and will for sure return there.

The Tropicana hotel is a welcome change from today’s newer resorts. It embodies old world charm from an era gone by. The staff are warm, friendly and extremely helpful. It is perfectly situated by the ocean and the Romantic Zone, which is full of restaurants, shops and galleries, all within walking distance. It is always a pleasure staying at the Tropicana!

One of the few hotels in the romantic zone on the ocean with their own palapas which is super convenient. Staff are friendly and rooms are just fine for the price. Whenever we are in PV we always stay here and it's never let us down.

Some of the rooms do not have A/C !! The staff are very indifferent. The pool and the beach are very good. The food is very basic. Only one menu all day. Not much choice. Location is great, close to everything you may need. Cleanliness could be much better. They have a rule about no glass in pool area, yet they serve glass bottles by the pool!! Their beach area needed to be cleaned better,bottle caps, cigarette butts, plastic forks etc, were there for days.

The hotel is a good old faithful and not bad as a whole. Most of the staff are good except for the resception desk staff. They are bad! I had to come downstairs three times when we first arrived for a safe key. Then they had the never to ask me what room number after the third time! Same staff! They seemed very uninterested in helping all through the vacation when we had questions. And everyone in Mexico wants tips! They may want to come to Canada...most dont get any tips for the jobs we perform! Lol.

This is our second year staying at Tropicana,and we feel like coming back home, the amazing people who work there make us feel like family great service and ongoing upgrades in the facilities, thanks again always looking forward to our next visit

On my recommendation, my friend is staying at the Tropicana next month and we are planning on returning next year with our friends. Great location in the romantic zone of Puerto Vallarta. Perfect for shopping, theater and dining. Thanks Tropicana!

I booked a Superior Room, when I arrived it had 2 double beds, next day we moved to a room with a King Bed. Was nicely painted, had a great shower and bathroom. Air Conditioning worked great and best of all It was the first floor in the Renovated tower. It looked out over the ocean and we could hear the waves at night. Boy cant get much better than that. We had the breakfast plan , you got scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, fruit yougurt , granola. All in all we picked a good place and the location is great for restaurants and shopping. Lots of palapas but they do play the towel game, so go early. Nice stretch of beach to walk on also. I would return here again.

This was my third or fourth stay at the Tropicana and the cleanliness, staff efficiency ahd friendliness have been consistently good. Pool and beachfront well serviced and maintained. It's situated well for wandering around old Vallarta. Feels like home when we get there, and we will go back..

Grounds were nice and very clean place, dated rooms and bathrooms were a bit moldy. Don't buy the breakfast buffet style package...very bland tasteless. Pleanty if great local places to have a great breakfast for cheap prices. Hotel policy does not allow any guests up to your room so you can't invite your friends to enjoy a drink on your balcony.

We paid extra for a superior room. The only superior part may have been a decent view. When we arrived we asked what the room was and requested a different one that we could at least make some of our own meals in. We were told they had no such rooms. A week later we ran into a couple that had a full kitchenette although they hadn’t asked for it and they couldn’t switch either. Our room didn’t even have a mini fridge which is absurd considering the 30 degree temps we had. The air conditioner worked when IT wanted to and constantly beeped throughout the night due to a faulty timer. We asked 3 times for it to be fixed but never was in the 2 weeks we stayed there. The cleaning staff were very good. That’s one positive. The front desk people couldn’t care at all about their guests. Even upon checkout never inquired how our stay was or hoped to see us again which they never will. I wouldn’t recommend the Tropicana to people I don’t like let alone a friend.

This hotel is about location. The amenities and room are good,but the proximity to old town is great. The pools are fair, one more family is located beside another deeper pool for short length swimming. The beach location again was pretty ideal, very close to the busier beach zones closer to mid town, but quiet enough to relax and not be bothered. The included breakfast for my arrangement was basic (eggs, bacon, toast and coffee), but enough to start the day. Although the property is older, it is kept well maintained. This was a very good economical choice of holiday. You don’t get the bells and whistles, but you aren’t paying for them either.

I have been going to the Tropicana for the past 4 years, likely 5 times by now. It is my first choice when going to Puerto Vallarta. While some of the mechanics of the hotel are old (“iffy” plumbing) the best feature is the property’s cleanliness.

It's a nice little place. It's old, and the furniture and decor etc is not all that pretty but it's comfortable and has all the amenities. Friendly staff, a decent bar, decent food. Very few options for vegetarians though. And very limited options for breakfast. They definitely need to Invest in better internet service and have wifi in the rooms, front main entrance area, and the beach, Internet was a huge problem. Pros- great location, spacious rooms, beach facing with a balcony. Decent Pools and other aminities. Cons- Limited internet in the hotel, limited Food options, need to wear a band as a guest, that was not nice. Staff needs to pay more attention to Details for a more welcoming, comfortable Experience.

I love this hotel!! It's location is perfect you can see the pier, lots of activity great restaurants around,hotel food is ok but nice to have options. People are so awesome friendly helpful. Hotel is clean, right on the best beach. Great price save your $$ don't do inclusive higher priced hotels, you feel you got to stay in the resort. This hotel has only 1 drawback the beds are very hard( really hard lol)

This is one of the oldest hotels in PV. That means the best beach...they got first pick. They are up grading more and more every year. Staff is so friendly. Clean. Lunch is great. Never had dinner there. Best guacamole ever!!! Met so many beautiful people, hopefully new best friends from all over the world. Just got back and booking again for November.

The hotel was nice they upgraded me from Superior to Junior Suite ( I think they couldn't find me in the system) LOL I had only a small view to the ocean - mostly my view consisted of street behind the hotel and other condos.The room had a working AC, gas stove, fridge, and coffee maker, along w/ utensil rack including spatula, spaghetti strainer, etc... My main complaint was there was no items necessary to utilize the suite such as an alarm clock, paper towels, dish soap, kleenex's or even a cup towel, they did have a dishrag though :). They did provide a set of dishes and cutlery for 2. There was also a little piece of foam under both mattresses which my travelling companions did not have on there's.

We have been going there 7 years. We got married there in 2013. Great time. Always updatin and new tvs and palapas. Central to the romantic zone. Oldest hotels have the best beach. Great restaurants around. Venicicular close by.

Property, rooms and location are great. The hotel is not geared to children which I found ideal. My only disappointment was after the hotel operator made a telephone call for me and again later for my partner. I suspect that the hotel operator understood the words 'direct call' instead of 'collect call'. The double error cost us $100. The hotel manager later confirmed that the hotel does not make 'collect calls'. Had we gone to the internet cafe to make two 25 minute calls to Visa and Tangerine, it would have cost us well under $10. We will return next year and hope to bring our friends.

The Tropicana resort is very good value for money. Great pool, great beach, excellent location, and very good prices on food and drink. It is basic accommodation, but clean and well maintained. If you want a good hotel in the perfect location, I recommend it!

The hotel is a very good looking, clean building with a distinct style. It is located in the old town across from the sandy beach and easy access to Malecon. The standard of our room was above average with excellent daily service. The restaurant offered reasonably priced good quality meals. I should add a word about very friendly and professional staff.

Location is 10/10; five minute walk from downtown and the boardwalk. No Wifi in rooms, and wifi just okay in common areas. They gave us a double bed instead of two singles, which is what we booked, but we managed okay. Also there was some confusion about check out time so make sure you understand when exactly you have to check out for.

The hotel itself is older but seemed to be clean and well-kept. Restaurant has a very limited menu, but there are many alternatives nearby. Overall this is a bargain, so need to keep in mind that you get what you pay for. Don't expect a luxury resort and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Clean room, nice view, excellent facilities. Beaches are always clean. Close to downtown was also a plus. Friendly staff. Lots of fun....Would stay there again. And bring my friends. tripcentral.ca is the best.

This hotel was great. Was central to the romantico zone. best beach front in the old town. Soo much to see and do. All the staff at the hotel were amazing. Will definitly back. Can't have enough of the tasty topicanas.

The hotel was nice, a bit dated but great location and really great beach front. The restaurants around the hotel provide lots of selection and amazing quality. The area is quaint and great to wander around!

The grounds are kept tidy and neat, nice layout of resort and nice and quiet at night. Would deffinetly stay here again and recommend to friends. This is not a 5* resort, but you're not paying 5* prices either!

Grounds of this resort were clean, beautiful and well cared for. Rooms are not fancy but had awesome balconies and great views of the beach and pool below. Of all the resorts we walked by in Puerto Vallarta this was our favorite. We couldn't have been happier and when we return next year we are going back to the Tropicana again. Right down in old Vallarta and you can walk to everything and its a nice safe feeling there, everyone friendly. Locals friendly and happy.

The Tropicana Puerto Vallarta is located directly on the beach in what can be considered one of the best spots in Vallarta. Its gardens are immaculate, its rooms comfortable and the view is stunning. The staff are friendly, playful and helpful. It is without a doubt a "come again" resort.

The location is awesome for walking and the grounds are very nice. The standard room we had was very old and dingy. The ceiling was actually gray it was so dirty. The bed was very hard and we finally able to get some foam to to put on top of the mattress. The "box spring" is made of cement with a thin mattress on top...ouch! We tried upgrading 4 times each time telling us to come back in the a.m. as they had blocked a room for us. Each time we went back in the a.m. no one new anything about it......we gave up!
