Just returned from Memories Cayo Largo. My impression of the resort is it’s a small gem of a resort. Beautiful tucked away resort on a stretch of mind blowing beaches. Though the beach on site is a bit difficult to go down because of the surf destruction once you tackle the first 20 feet you will be in beach heaven, let me add there are stairs as well. The food for the entire week was quite good and some days delicious. The staff was terrific especially Danger on the seafood grill, Lucas in the Ranchon restaurant and Mike at bites in the pool bar/restaurant The only thing that could be better is the bathrooms in your room. They are a bit tired in some of the rooms but in honesty I’m never in my room and not there for that reason. After spending time with many people at the resort for the week I can now understand why they have been countless times and call it there cottage I hope to return some day in years to come.

Cayo Largo is a Beautiful small Island! We stayed at Memories Cayo Largo, the rooms are very outdated and falling apart but we didn’t care to much about the room, you just sleep and shower there. Apparently the Hotel is updating the rooms this Summer. The food was great, there’s a meat station that had, chicken, pork or ham, a pasta/pizza station and a fish station. They also had salads,Turkey 3 nights and Lobster or Filet Mignon that you paid $30 USD for. We loved the Sunset Cruise, we stopped at 3 islands that were spectacular, had Lobster or Chicken to choose from for Dinner, then watched the Sunset!!! I used the spa and had 2 90 min massages during my week stay. There are some bugs at night if your around vegetation but they only seemed to bite me and not the other 5 people we were with. We will definitely go back when the rooms are renovated. The staff are amazing! Bring Cat Food if you love cats, there’s approximately 50 on the resort. Bring a lot of $1 bills for tips, approximately $20 per day. Don’t give Canadian change to them, it’s useless money in Cuba but they can use Canadian Dollar Bills. You can pay your excursions with Canadian Bills also. The Premium package is worth it just for the Butler service, but you also save 30% at the spa. This Resort was an older crowd with very few children or younger adults which we like, were in our early 50’s. We will be returning again!!!

This was our first time in Cayo Largo. As always the people are wonderful and the beaches are spectacular. The food was good, the bed was comfortable, the shower had no pressure. The pool was good, the bars ran out of vodka and lacked basic mix like club soda and tonic but they always had cerveza (so that was good!).

I was at here at end of Sept with relatives. Had a great time. The beach was gorgeous and the water amazing. Not my first time in Cuba. This was my first time to Cayo Largo. No problems with the food. Not alot of fresh fruit or veggies. Had amazing omelets every morning. They did have an exceptional baker, we had fresh bread and desserts every day. Yummy. Loved the bungalows. Plenty of room and a well working a/c unit. Bathroom was dated but servicable. Got water every day. I am glad it did not rain while I was there (no umbrella in my room). I was in bungalow 20, so I was pretty close to everything. Also resort was not full. That makes a big difference. All the people at the resort were very friendly and helpful. Shout out to Renaldo at the buffet.

The resort is old but the staff work hard to maintain the grounds and facilities. The housekeeping is excellent. The control of insects is poor. The difficulties with supplies make it difficult but the staff are the very best

Detailed review of Memories, if you're interested.....thanks to others who have posted helpful posts in the past. ? We went to Memories Cayo Largo – week of March 9th/2024 Background – we’ve been to Cuba before (Holguin) as well as Dominican, Mexico etc. First time in Cayo Largo. Would we go again? Yes. Would we recommend it? Only to those who can roll with things and aren’t picky. Airport – Quick flight from Ottawa. Tiny airport in Cayo Largo. Less than 10 minutes to the resort – amazing! Check in – Super quick, even though we arrived at 11am the room was ready. Not a lot of info at check in was given (we did later meet as a group around 4pm with the Sunwing rep who told us a bit more). Towels – Card given at check in for 2 beach towels. Lose the towels, $10 each. We were able to replace daily. Need to bring towels to check out desk, when leaving. Wifi – They don’t tell you at check in, but you can ask and they’ll give you a ticket with a login and password for 35 hours of wifi. You have to log in every time you want to use it. Quality was decent around lobby/pools. At our room it was hit and miss (building 18). Beaches – Beach at the resort is quite rough/choppy. There’s a narrow area of beach, beautiful coloured water, but rough. We took the train/trolley to Sirena Beach twice. It leaves from the lobby at certain times (check the front desk sign for times). It’s first come, first served for getting on the trolley. The ride is almost 30 minutes….free….but can be very rough/bumpy. Otherwise you can take a cab (not expensive). Trolley returns from beach at set times as well. Sirena Beach is GORGEOUS. If you walk to the right and down the beach to the end area – lots of starfish. Beautiful! There are sun loungers there (lots) and umbrellas. There’s an area you can go buy a beer if you want (not sure about food, we brought snacks) and rent some boats to go out on. Food – We didn’t go hungry. We ate a lot of the same types of things every day. Some days some items were there, the next they might not be (ie – pasta station – sometimes lots of options for toppings, some days barely any). Most nights we had a mini pizza from the pizza/pasta station. If you’re a picky eater or quickly tire of the same things – you might struggle. We brought sauces (mustard, ketchup etc) never used any of it, except we made ourselves the odd peanut butter sandwich to go to the beach, for something different. We brought some snacks & had a few, but didn’t need them. We did the a-la-carte once (which is what we were allowed, not being Diamond Club) and it was fine. A little different than the buffet, which was nice. Didn’t seem to be a dress code in general. Are there flies around the food? Some, yes. Bars – No wine, always had beer (when we were there). Other drinks – some days they had things, some days they didn’t. Room – The room itself was fine. Basic. Comfortable beds etc. The bathroom – the sink was fine – the tub was in ROUGH shape. Stains on it, kinda falling apart. Ceiling area in rough shape. Could we manage? Yes. Was the bathroom nice? No. Room also has a safe in it – you need to tap it with your room card to activate it, then put in a 5 digit code (again things they didn’t tell you at check in and had to ask). Staff – WONDERFUL. Lovely, kind. Pools – Both of them were in older shape for sure. The one with the swim up bar seemed like it was in a bit rougher shape (was always kind of a green colour) as opposed to the other pool that was nice, bright blue. Shows – There was something every night. Entertaining for an hour or so. Bugs – I got quite a few itchy bites. My husband got none. Pretty typical for when we’re down south. For it being March Break for Ontario, we were very surprised how quiet it was. Lots of days around the pool there were very few people there. Clothing optional – As you walked down from Memories to the Starfish area of the beach you saw the “clothing optional” sign. There were some nude folks there and on Sirena Beach. Mostly men. Other items? For our time there – we always had two new bottles of water in our room daily. Never ran out of toilet paper (we brought some with us just in case). Fortunately, we were never sick, a huge bonus. I think that’s always hit and miss. Friends just got back from Dominican, they were sick there, not when they were in Cuba a few months ago. You never know. Good to bring meds just in case, of course. So again, would we return? Yes. We know what we’re getting – beautiful weather, beaches, kind staff, food that we won’t go hungry. If you’re wanting something fancy and higher end this isn’t for you. For the price we paid we were happy with the week we had for sure. You have to be able to roll with things & not have the mentality of “I had a Pina Colada yesterday they HAVE to be available today?!”. If that’s the type of person you are, you’ll be disappointed. We had a great week!

This place is amazing, small island with the turquoise color of the sea and long white beaches.. But despite some problems and small lack, the beach, the sun and the beauty of the place makes me forget all that. The resort was great, the staff was super helpful and made my vacation special. We spent most of time on the beautiful and virgin beach next to our hotel and one day at Playa Paraiso - just a short ride away. We spent a great day at sea aboard a comfortable catamaran, see iguanas on a virgin island, stop for snorkeling, see coral fish, sting ray and even a shark. I like to say thank you to everyone of staff who listens to our needs. The animation team is amazing: dynamic, positive, and energetic! And the band for fantastic music playing everyday. The buffet was good, and we had a good dinner at the a la carte restaurant. A HUGE thank you to Daniel Rodriguez M. for helping to create my stay lovely and very pleasant. Most importantly for taking a special care of my friend when she got seriously ill. She received very good care; her issue was dealt with promptly and efficiently. I thought the whole situation was handled very professionally. No worries whatsoever. I speak some Spanish...but no need. They spoke perfect English. This kind of thing could happen anywhere at any time. The doctors and nurse were treating people in the clinic and in their ROOMS in a timely manner, It was a wonderful getaway from cold Winter days in Ottawa. Thanks for everything. We have been to Cuba many times but first time in Cayo Largo and it did not disappoint. The staff at Memories went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. Our amazing butler Elba made sure we had everything we needed and more! Remember that Cuba struggles with getting supplies some weeks but we never had an issue. Can't wait to go back.

This hotel was fine,great beds changed only once a week,clean Bungalow style four per unit, Diamond Club had ocean view but far from things lots of walking. Clean washrooms lots of toilet paper. Very quiet Rock no beach had to take cab or mini train to the beaches 15 - 20 minutes away but sooo worth it FOOD I’d give it a 2 ran out of beer for the first 3 days then no cheese, yogurt,or any dairy all week no fresh eggs only pre mix in a jug… Food at a lacarte was the same food as at the buffet they had lobster for an extra $20 us BUT seriously have to do something about the food.

The restaurant manager and restaurant host shook me, my gf and 70 YO father down for $75USD. After I disputed the charge I was forced to pay. They called police, immigration and forced me to sign a document under distress. 2 sunwing reps did nothing to help. They came to my room at 11:45pm when I was sleeping to scare and intimidate me further. The absolute worst! The two hotel staff and two sunwing staff should be fired immediately. They probably do this to ppl all the time. I’ve been to over 10 different island nations, been to Cuba 10 plus times and I would never believed what happened to us in a million years. This was my second visit to the resort, I will never return. I will never go to Cuba ever again! I have never left a review before but wanted to let everyone know what happened! So scary. Such a bad experiance. Other than the worst experiance of my life here are the other reasons why I wouldn’t return. 1. No toilet paper, anywhere!! 2. No beach, it was washed out 3. Ran out of beer 4. Ran out of wine 5. There was no toilet paper!! Wtf Oh and I got shook down and got the police and immigration called on myself, gf, and 70YO father!! Crazy!! Go anywhere but this place!! It’s the worst!!

The resort itself was very nice. It was clean and well maintained. Not too big and not too busy either. The rooms were spacious and clean. The beach was beautiful especially on the calm days. The water was the most beautiful color of blue and the sand was soft powdery white. The food was basic, which we were prepared for, but also good. We were always able to find something and never went hungry. The staff really take this resort to the next level. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and they all went above and beyond. I don't think I've ever stayed somewhere with such amazing staff. We would definitely return.

Accomodation found old but fairly clean, people are very friendly, Sunwing both fly delayed, food is terrible and dangerous as it was served for lunch at dead cold temperature, no resort beach at all, washed out.

Not what I expected from a Memories resort in Cayo Largo during the Xmas break with my family. We had met quite of few people who were returning to the resort as I think it was much better in past years. The shows next to the main bar were great and the bar staff were awesome. The beaches in Cuba are amazing but this one was very small and had to use the beach next to us at Starfish resort. There seems to be a food shortage as well, no fruit or vegetables and not much change to the selection from day to day at the buffet. Breakfast was decent as soon as something was out like Pineapple on the rare day it was gone in an hour. Our Oceanview room had a nice view but the room itself needed lots of attention, older with very little upkeep. What made the trip was the staff and the people we had met. The airport was less than 10 min away which was really good and the Turtle Sanctuary at the Marina was also nice to visit. Jenn Black at Trip Central was amazing to deal with and was very helpful with the booking.

This was my first time at Memories Cayo Largo but for sure not the last one. The resort is Beautiful and the service was very good. Special thanks for excellent service from Diamond Club employee for Melissa and Yagmara, any question and request was done write away. Carlos from the restaurant was like a brother to me, very friendly and the service from him was excellent. I relay recommended this resort. The room was clean and the food was very good. We have twice Lobster and a lot of see food. We have very good time from Nov17 to Nov24. Thank you all of you for everything. Slawek and Danuta.

Just got back from 2 weeks. Oceanview room was great. Lots of water and pressure. Resort ran out of wine and beer more than half of stay. No vegetables. Butter for four days. A lot of variety of food was missing. Pool was filthy and dangerous with broken and missing side panels covering overflow. Not much beach because of high tide. Thank goodness weather was perfect and staff was as well. a train ride to nicer beach was rough. Strongly recommend to take a taxi

The hotel is a bit dated, but it is clean and small enough to be able to access the beach or pool which ever you choose. We had 3 days on the beach which is the best part of this resort, the ocean was clear blue and warm enough to just walk in a float around for hours. The selection of food was lacking but we didn't go hungry and the service was excellent both at the restaurants and bars. We have been to this resort many times over the years mainly because of the staff, the resort size and how easy it is to get to the resort not to mention the price. We will return.

We have found a new spot to love in Cuba! Our last visit to Cayo Largo was 2018 and so much has changed in Cuba since we were curious how it would be now. This was our first time to the Memories and we were very satisfied. The hotel overall was very nice. Our room was in block one, overlooking the pool and close to everything. It was clean, no musty smell and super comfy bed. It was next to the theater and there was music, etc most nights till 11, so if you want early nights I would ask for a quiet area. The grounds were well kept and it was easy to get around. The restaurants a good and tasty variety,our favorite was the Ranchon on the beach. The bars were well stocked. One area that does need work is the pool, especially the grates on the overflow. If you were not paying attention they could be dangerous. We enjoyed the possibility of going for the day to Playa Sirena and the lunch buffet and service was excellent. The main reason for us returning to Cuba is the people and Memories did not disappoint. Every member of the staff was welcoming and kind.We had a marvelous week and will definitely return. Thanks again to Jenn Black for taking g care of the booking once again.😊👍

The resort was amazing ...great staff and room was very nice an clean everyday...the food was good an fresh everyday an different items to choose from on the buffet...the setting of the dining was very relaxing an atmosphere was great...

Amazing vacation. Staff went out of their way to make it special and it was. Only downside were the mosquitoes. They did spray several times. Can't escape nature. Just general info: you pay for everything with credit card but wifi not always reliable. Cuban currency not wanted. Not even at the airport.

Basic, but nice resort, stunning beaches. The beach at the resort does not have enough umbrellas though. Friendly nice people and amazing staff, especially Yordan -the snack bar chef, Marcus from the animators, Ivo - the beach bar, Ivan and Dunya from the snack bar. No complaints from the food at all.

This is our 10th time to Cuba. We've been to Cayo Coco and Varadero but first time in Cayo Largo. If you love nature, please go. You will not regret it. Take the catamaran sunset tour, turtle sanctuary, and go open minded. In Cuba, there is hardly processed food so don't expect cereals for breakfast, or Nutella or catchup etc. The food is simple but very tasty. You will not lose weight. I could never get my calculations straight that you can go for $1,000 to Cuba for a week, more than half is a airplain ticket and taxes, and there is so little left for Cubans to feed us all week, clean after us and all that with the smile. We've traveled the world but Cuba is the most convenience and the most relaxing place to go (if you live in Canada). To rent a cottage in Canada would cost me more, never mind traffic problems to get to any cottage country place. So stressful. Cuba is my go to place to get my vitamin D, relax, and physically and mentally recover for busy Toronto life. We loved Cayo Largo. There is even beach for nudists (if you practice). Room was very clean with bottle of 1.5 L water every day, two rolls of toilet paper, shampoo, shower gell, soap, ground area clean, swimming pool with salt water (loved it), food was amazing (they have every day roast pork, chicken, fish, burgers, sweet potatos, carrots, beets salad, eggs, guava, mango, watermelon with seeds (yes with seeds, all natural)... Please don't ask for strawberries, cranberry juice, blueberries etc. And take the bumpy ride to Paradise and Sirena beach. At Sirena they serve free food and drinks like wine and beer. Yes, sometimes people who live on an island would run out of things, so please don't be mad if one day they don't have red wine but they offer you champaign or rose instead. Who cares? Do you really drink that much at home every day anyways? Do you get mad at your friends if they don't have your favourite drink when you visit them? No. BYOB if you cannot live for a week without it. Love you all! Great to see you are considering Cuba. :)

The hotel was beautiful. The grounds are very well kept. Our butler, Ernesto was amazing. He is definitely an asset to this hotel. He even phoned our room when he knew we were a little under the weather. He also arranged all of our a-la-carts and anything else we needed! Luis Miguel in the dining room made the best omlettes and always with a smile!

Clean and well organized. Diamond Club is a plus! Everything as good or better than in the past - except for the lack of a beach. Shout out to Ivo, Miguel, Yosbel, Celia and Kirenia for outstanding service!

I would like to share my amazing vacation experience after staying at the Cayo Largo Memories resort. I was travelling alone, but honestly, I was not feeling this way because, at the resort, you are immersed in a family-like and super friendly atmosphere. The animation team is amazing: dynamic, positive, and energetic! At the snack bar, tourists can get a daily bachata and salsa experience. Marcos Antonio Mendoza Martinez, who is a part of the animation team, is an awesome person and dancer and will offer you a hand while teaching you the steps of the dance. It would be great if, in addition to the public dancing, there could be private lessons for tourists who are interested in sharpening their dance experience for a reasonable price. I am pretty sure there will be a line of bachata and salsa funs for it!!! ALL - resort, clients and the animation group members would get some benefits from this service. I would like to have a chance to say "hi" to all the amazing staff at the hotel—"you are the best!" I forgot to mention outstanding 3 beaches: at Memories, Sirena and Paradise ! It was an unforgettable experience! coming back for sure!

Maria and I were pleasantly surprised. Our room was great, the bed was comfy, lots of hot water in our nice bathroom. The food was good plus all the staff were very helpful. George runs a tight ship and do not forget to ask for a mega Dunya coffee. Oh yes let’s not forget the beautiful beaches, and the train ride. Thank you.

I was happy to see the resort and grounds just as beautiful as I remember when it was the Sol.. Of course the big setback now is the beach in front of Memories Cayo Largo has been washed up over the years , which is no fault of the resort. It was still beautiful , just not as much of it , and can no longer walk the beach from resort to Paraiso and Sirenis…. The hotel provides shuttle trains to these beaches and also provides buffet lunch which was very good! The ocean in front of resort can be quite rough.. 5 of the 7 days was red flagged.. The lifeguards were always there and attentive. Still very much a stunning location to enjoy Mother Nature at her finest. Wonderful Ranchero restaurant overlooking beach which had great house band play during lunch. The buffets were quite good considering the food shortages in Cuba right now. Always choice of fish, chicken,pork, beef and assorted vegetables. Pasta bar and pizza bar quite busy for dinner.. which is a good sign. The snack bar by the pool had the best Spanish coffees and Pina Coladas, as well as good sandwiches and burgers . My room was fine. Hot water, A/C TV all worked fine, and had a lovely balcony . Very friendly staff..everyone employee I encountered was so cheerful and helpful . One negative thing I can say is that there were flies all over the buffet tables and the food was basically uncovered for the duration of meal times.. Perhaps food should be covered up and have an employee serve the food to the guests..?. I remember Memories Caribe did this during Covid precautions .. As far as Covid precautions went..can’t say there were any .. business as usual ..very few masks were seen and no social distancing .. This was not an issue for me at all .. In general, the resort was very clean.. always tp in the bathrooms and beautiful flowers everywhere.. I really enjoyed the saltwater pool… and I’m not a pool person . Very nice vibe and various activities going on in the afternoon. I enjoyed my stay very much . Wonderful place to unwind and enjoy the surroundings. I feel my trip was very good value.

Wonderful service with great staff. Would go back tomorrow. Not impressed with Sunwing flight delays and cancellations. They could at least provided more information on website and saved us much hassle at the airport.

As always, let me start of by saying I am a seasoned Cuba traveler, and with that I have a lot to compare to...over 20, 3 and 4+ star hotels within the last few years. Since November of 2021 (pandemic times), 6 hotels in Cuba. I am comparing Cuba to Cuba. I’ve never been to Mexico or Dominican. I find that sometimes people will go there, then come to Cuba and “be shocked”. Cuba is different, and even more so worse than before the pandemic. If you’ve been to one of these, that’s what my comparison is based upon: Hotel Parasio (Pestana), Colonial in Cayo Coco, Memories Flamenco, Tryp Cayo Coco, Melia Jardines Del Ray, Occidental Varadero, Roc Arenas, Grand Memories, Melia Varadero, Be Live Collection CSM, Play Cayo Santa Maria, Memories Parasio, Sol Varadero, Playa Costa Verde Holguin and Grand Sirenas CSM. Top faves would be Playa Cayo Santa Maria, Melia Jardines Del Ray, Grand Sirenas and Sol Varadero. These range from 3 to 4.5 stars. Some 30 years old, some 4. Tips about reviews: If at the top of the review you see “1 contribution”, that’s a red flag, perhaps management. Also, be ware that on social media, some admins will delete anything negative, so you won’t see the true story. Rooms: Sunwing pics are 100% not accurate, they are what the prototype for the new rooms are GOING to be like. The resort is 20 years old, so are the rooms. While NO, I don’t go to Cuba for the rooms, it’s not a pleasant vacation when the sheet/blankets smell and you can’t sleep, can’t shower cause the water is only cold, or like us, burned us cause out of no where went super hot! Same as with the super loud AC, can’t sleep. No fan in the room, and super dark. Rusty old lamps that are enough light of a candle, hard to find stuff in the dark. The electric sockets also came out of the wall when you tried to take a plug out. TV didn’t work (fuzzy screen), not a big deal but one night we just wanted to chill in the room. One lady had the sliding door fall on her, one lady claims she was electrocuted in the shower. I don’t care about the layers of paint, or stains in the tub, but safety stuff like that is pretty important. This was the biggest “Con” of the resort. Lack of sleep due to AC noise and smells. Entertainment: I wish they had an on site disco. The shows were great. Some of the staff were great, some bothered us (chasing us down the beach) about leaving “gifts” even though I hadn’t interacted with them all week. Buffet: Note that we went 1st opening week. Management puts out the best of the best so that word gets around how great it is, and more people book. I spoke with them about this, it won’t always be the same food. It was a good variety, good pastas, but again…I don’t want people booking in say Feb, and being disappointed that “They said the food was good!”. The 1st and 2nd day staff were pretty good, on it if we needed water/coffee/wine. We tipped. Then 3rd day on, we noticed service getting worse and worse…maybe because we weren’t dropping $20 per meal (which is what we saw some people were doing, that’s a months salary, no wonder now $5 bills get laughed at, what did some people create?!) they started ignoring us. Meat grill guy was nice the first day, then day 4 told us we need to pay for lobster $20 per piece or give him our clothes lol. Management said everything in the buffet was free. We got the lobster, and it was surprise….raw. Lobby: The 3 gentleman that work there are amazing, such hard workers! They made fabulous drinks, always quick. I wish there was more seating around the lobby bar as it got packed in there fast in the evening. Only about 10 tables with 2 chairs each inside, so when it rains, you can’t even move around. I would suggest adding more tables to the night show area, at the back, kind of extend the lobby area. Beach: Ah, the big question you read on the forums/fb pages: “Is there a beach?!” Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Day 1 the water was up to the rocks, no sand visible. By day 6, 20 ft of sand. It changes according to the moon/winds/tides. If there is no beach, you can take the train (it’s basically a tractor, painted to look like a train, there’s no railing) to Playa Sirena or Paraiso, however…we were told it won’t always be free. Same as with drinks, food and shade spots at Playa Sirena, won’t always be free! Just note, it’s about 20 minutes and goes over very bumpy sand roads. If you have back issues, are senior or what not, it’s not very comfortable. Taxi one way for 2 people was $8USD on credit card, and goes much faster. Pools: Great layout, I like a good pool vibe after the beach in the PM. Not a whole lot of shade, spots get taken. Somewhat clean, although some people mentioned the pool bar pool was a bit smelly. Snack Bar: Amazing service, had a few things on the menu each day (Burgers, fries sometimes, shrimp sandwich, cabbage/cucumber/avocado salad) I appreciate a good old ham and cheese after too much vino blanco during the night haha. Note: I don’t go to Cuba to make friends with staff. I don’t go with rose colored glasses and ignore the bad because of the friendly people. I will still review the “negative”, people have a right to know before they spend their hard earned $ on vacation. I don’t bother reading reviews that state “I’ve been coming here since 1941, it’s the best! I never go any where else”, why? Because they don’t have anything to compare to. How do you know it’s the best when you’ve never been anywhere else?! Lol. Then you get comments like “If you want 5 star go to a 5 star!” Well, I went to Sol Varadero, 30 year old hotel that’s 3 star, and almost everything was much better, service, rooms, etc. I went to Cayo Largo to try it out. I had a great vacation either way! Would I go back? Sure, if the price is under $750 out of Toronto for a week, it’s worth it 😊

The hotel has nice grounds, good rooms and decent food. My room didn't have hot water, but my friend's room was fine, so I guess it depends where you stay. I liked the entertainment in the evening, although a nice addition would be a schedule of the shows for each day of the week and schedule of the activities by the pool. The beach is very good, and I liked that in windy weather I could escape to the Playa Sirena.

As always, let me start of by saying I am a seasoned Cuba traveler, and with that I have a lot to compare to...over 20, 3 and 4+ star hotels within the last few years. Since November of 2021 (pandemic times), 6 hotels in Cuba. I am comparing Cuba to Cuba. I’ve never been to Mexico or Dominican. If you’ve been to one of these, that’s what my comparison is based upon: Hotel Parasio (Pestana), Colonial in Cayo Coco, Memories Flamenco, Tryp Cayo Coco, Melia Jardines Del Ray, Occidental Varadero, Roc Arenas, Grand Memories, Melia Varadero, Be Live Collection CSM, Play Cayo Santa Maria, Memories Parasio, Sol Varadero, Playa Costa Verde Holguin and Grand Sirenas CSM. Top faves would be Playa Cayo Santa Maria, Melia Jardines Del Ray, Grand Sirenas and Sol Varadero. These range from 3 to 4.5 stars. Some 30 years old, some 4. Tips about reviews: If at the top of the review you see “1 contribution”, that’s a red flag, perhaps management. Also, anyone posting a negative comment on the facebook groups will get banned, so people don’t want to say anything at all. Rooms: Sunwing pics are not accurate, they are what the prototype for the new rooms are GOING to be like. The resort is 20 years old. While NO, I don’t go to Cuba for the rooms, it’s not a pleasant vacation when the sheet/blankets smel, can’t shower cause the water is only cold, or like us, burned us cause out of no where went super hot! Super loud AC, can’t sleep. No fan in the room, and super dark. Rusty old lamps that are enough light of a candle, hard to find stuff in the dark. The electric sockets also came out of the wall when you tried to take a plug out. TV didn’t work (fuzzy screen), not a big deal but one night we just wanted to chill in the room. One lady had the sliding door fall on her, one lady claims she was electrocuted in the shower. I don’t care about the layers of paint, or stains in the tub, but safety stuff like that is pretty important. This was the biggest “Con” of the resort. Lack of sleep due to AC noise and smells. Entertainment: I wish they had an on site disco. The shows were great. Some of the staff were great, some bothered us (chasing us down the beach) about leaving “gifts” even though I hadn’t interacted with them all week. Buffet: Note that we went 1st opening week. Management puts out the best of the best so that word gets around how great it is, and more people book. I spoke with them about this, it won’t always be the same food. It was a good variety, good pastas, but again…I don’t want people booking in say Feb, and being disappointed that “They said the food was good!”. The 1st and 2nd day staff were pretty good, on it if we needed water/coffee/wine. We tipped. Then 3rd day on, we noticed service getting worse and worse…maybe because we weren’t dropping $20 per meal (which is what we saw some people were doing, that’s a months salary, no wonder now $5 bills get laughed at, what did some people create?!) they started ignoring us. Meat grill guy was nice the first day, then day 4 told us we need to pay for lobster $20 per piece or give him our clothes lol. Management said everything in the buffet was free. We got the lobster, and it was surprise….raw. Lobby: The 3 gentleman that work there are amazing, such hard workers! They made fabulous drinks, always quick. I wish there was more seating around the lobby bar as it got packed in there fast in the evening. Only about 10 tables with 2 chairs each inside, so when it rains, you can’t even move around. I would suggest adding more tables to the night show area, at the back, kind of extend the lobby area. Beach: Ah, the big question you read on the forums/fb pages: “Is there a beach?!” Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Day 1 the water was up to the rocks, no sand visible. By day 6, 20 ft of sand. It changes according to the moon/winds/tides. If there is no beach, you can take the train (it’s basically a tractor, painted to look like a train, there’s no railing) to Playa Sirena or Paraiso, however…we were told it won’t always be free. Same as with drinks, food and shade spots at Playa Sirena, won’t always be free! Just note, it’s about 20 minutes and goes over very bumpy sand roads. If you have back issues, are senior or what not, it’s not very comfortable. Taxi one way for 2 people was $8USD on credit card, and goes much faster. Pools: Great layout, I like a good pool vibe after the beach in the PM. Not a whole lot of shade, spots get taken. Somewhat clean, although some people mentioned the pool bar pool was a bit smelly. Hotel still excellent despite age. Grounds, rooms, common areas well kept. Don't like new grey colour and white outdoor lamps. Prefer coloured cabins, terracotta lamps. Food servers don't spend enough time continuing to fill water and wine glasses, or getting tables ready, or seating guests in buffet. Often when replenishing soup or juice didn't notice there were no spoons, bowls or glasses. So food but no utensils. No eggs, cheese for several days. Service at special dinners excellent. Beach non existent because of high surf and wind. Palapas overturned.

Hotel is nice,the gardens, palm trees and beach are beautiful. Food is ok but not bad, the only problem is that there is to many flys on the food and the table, Drinks are not premium, for example, 7 year old Havana club you have to pay. Staff are friendly.

Spent a week at this resort and would 100% return! Beautiful beautiful beaches and such a great little island! The only downfall is sometimes the beaches can be washed away but the beauty is that you’re never far away from something even more wonderful down the island!

When you want to really spoil something, send in a new manager who is into team-building and re-branding. Fortunately, the new management didn't get all their own way, so the old hotel doesn't feel too different. For 9 days the southern trade winds blew strongly, to all the beach was washed away in front of the hotel. But the much-advertised hotel renovation seems mostly just paint. They COULD be trying to compete with the Pelicano, which has one 120v AC outlet in every room, so we Canadians can charge our gizmos.But the SCL continues to ignore this issue, so you still need to bring a heavy-duty voltage converter. Factor that into your 50 lb luggage limit. Some of the paint is gratuitous, just to see that something has been done. Why paint heavy battleship grey all over the front of the El Cayito bar, covering up all the nicely-painted designs? The joke of the SolAzul pool bar is to first ascertain whet the kitchen does NOT have, and then make your order accordingly. At the buffet, there were sun-dried tomatoes, for 2 whole days. All of a sudden (never seen them at the SCL in 10 years) there were churros at the breakfast buffet. Mario, best bartender in Cuba, is now a head-waiter, and the El Cayito bartenders are back to their old tricks of overloading your drink with cheap rot-gut booze. .

They are deep into reno-ing the resort. The beach was gone but we found some beach chairs in the dunes so we could sun and see and hear the ocean. Our room was tired but clean. It was very relaxing! The staff was fabulous. We will return ... again.

we went to Sol Cayo Largo for a week January 12 2020 and were pleasantly surprised! we feel this resort should deserve a higher star rating. grounds were clean, food was excellent with lots of choices, entertainment was varied and well done, ocean was beautiful and the staff was friendly, helpful and courteous.

The Good - beautiful white sand beach that goes on for miles with no other resorts west of this resort. Also most of the staff at the resort was friendly and helpful and the hotel is only a 5 minute drive from the airport. The Bad - the beautiful beach was completely washed away after 4 days into the stay when the extremely strong winds started and stayed on for the next 3 days. The food was average with hardly any fresh fruits and vegetables and buffet food is usually cold with no warming trays. Also the whole island seems to be infested with small black flies even with a plane flying around spaying a few times during the stay. If you are looking for water sports, nothing is available at the resort, you have to travel to Sirena beach (hotel shuttle available for 5 CUC or 2 hour walk on the beach if you are up to it) for any water sports. The Ugly - the initial room that they gave me had no hot water, multiple areas with water damage and then a major fresh water leak happening in the bathroom. The upside is that they did give another room which was better, but the resort is dated and needs some TLC.

The groups are very lush and well kept. The flora & fauna are endless, white sands, crystal clear waters with occasional waves (went in Dec). Very peaceful & relaxing Island to visit. Love the cats! Please feed them people and be kind as we are all God's creatures.

The resort was very good! Staff was nice, even to us first-timers!!! Room was good, beds, not so much but the overall feeling was great. Sure, there was a lack of OJ, tonic water or mint for Mojitos but still, the sun, the sea and the company was really, really nice! Will go back for sure!!@!

Nous avons redécouvert ce site avec des rénovations et ajouts. Cet hôtel et île est l’un des plus beaux aux monde. La température était toujours de 32 o et le soleil était au rendez-vous! Le personnel est tres sympathique, surtout plusieurs d’entre aux que nous connaissons depuis plus de 16 ans. Ils sont toujours contents de nous revoir.

Arrived June 14th for one week. The weather was amazing 31-32 and sunny all week. The beach was ok. We spent more time at the pool which is clean and beautiful. The room was nice and clean. The food was good. The service was excellent! Perfect place to relax.

This was our 9th annual visit to this resort and unfortunately some things have changed for the worse. There is apparently a new General Manager, a new Head Chef, and a new Food and Beverage Manager. Starting with the positive, the food was slightly improved over previous visits, but there are some shortages. Given the difficulties Cuba is currently facing, this is not unexpected. However, quality and quantity is impressive. Now for the list of negatives. The beach maintenance is terrible. Granted they are experiencing more erosion and seaweed than normal, but the mounds of seaweed are huge and the beach is no longer pristine. There are also new signs both for the beach and the pool stating that clients are not allowed to reserve chaises (loungers), but it is not enforced. Many beach chaises were "reserved" all week by the same towels and t-shirts, even overnight. Apparently tipping the beach staff overrides the rules. The new Food and Beverage Manager is everywhere. He hovers, and the staff appear to be nervous when he is around. He seemed very critical of the staff and we never saw him giving praise. Many staff expressed their frustration at being expected to do more with less and some even had 12-hour shifts extended to 18 hours, and were then expected back 6 hours later. The worst example is the main bar, which typically has only two bartenders working very hard to keep up with demand. On top of that, one of the two is now expected to provide table service to the patio, adding to the workload and stress. People in the past were quite willing to get their own drinks at the bar and take them to their tables, but are now being told to sit down and the staff will "happily" serve you! We have never seen the staff look so unhappy. We miss the genuine warm smiles. Every visit also includes a "returning guest" dinner. Every other time we have been to this resort, the General Manager and other Managers have attended this event early on to thank the returning guests for their patronage. Not this time; not one Manager was in attendance. It's a small thing, but marks another negative change. Lastly, the accommodations are in serious need of renovation and repair. The support beams over the balcony roofs are crumbling and there is exposed rebar in the concrete. A large chunk of concrete fell onto our balcony on our final night. Luckily, we were not outside at the time. Water leaked from the air conditioner and required a bucket to keep from soaking the floor. There are signs of water damage everywhere. Bathrooms too are in desperate need of an overhaul. Oh, and one more thing: why do guests need to wear bracelets when the resort next door is closed? In fact, we were never required to wear those annoying things during our first six visits. What changed? In conclusion, we cannot recommend this hotel in the current state and are not planning a return in the near future.

What we expected of a 3.5 star hotel. Clean rooms. We had the upgraded superior room with ocean view, private balcony at the end of the resort. We had to visit guest services as the bottle of rum on arrival was not in the room and the mini bar was not stocked as advertised. For the second week, had to visit again for our a la carte restaurant invitations. Food was good. Lobster dinners exceptional. Beach had lots of seaweed washed up and some erosion. Staff very friendly, would do anything for us!

We have been to this resort over 20 times, clearly we like the island and resort. Our appeal has always been the isolation, the vast expanse of the beach, the friendly staff, each time it is like going 'home' for a visit. Over the years, there was a gradual decline in the property upkeep, however we have noticed in the past 2 years a significant change to improve the property. Updated lobby, new A/C, some buildings were being painted, new gym equipment, new lounge chairs on the beach and by the pool are all signs that reinvestment has begun. The food menu seems to have been streamlined with emphasis on 'presentation' and quality. All is good. One key upgrade we hope will be included in the future are the beds, you feel the springs, time to be replaced. While the pool area is very nice, we are drawn to enjoy the beach. Previously, many guests made side deals with the beach staff to 'reserve' their lounges over night. This meant that newly arriving guests often could not get lounges with shade protection as they were 'unofficially' reserved for the week AND many were never used in the daytime. BRAVO to the current management who were brave to stop this 'reservation' practice. Now, if you want a lounge, you must go to the beach in the AM to set up. The system worked VERY well! We have made many friends with staff over the years, some are now no longer there. We miss Alexander & Monica on the front desk, Caesar in the restaurant. The older staff made the effort to ensure we felt comfortable and enjoyed our visit. The staff work very long hours, many in hard jobs, yet they display a smile. It may be the Cuban culture or past training, but the newer front desk and restaurant staff need to learn from their elders. Three times we attempted to make reservations for evening dining, each time we were given wrong instructions how to make reservations and the desk staff showed no interest to help. Fortunately Noel, our long-time friend, pointed us in the right direction and helped. The same with being served at the pool snack bar and at breakfast, there were only 4 couples in the snack bar, yet we waited 10 minutes to be offered a drink. Once again Noel came to save us as he entered the snack bar. Last, in any service business, it is customary to 'welcome' people on arrival with a sincere smile and also upon departure to sincerely inquire if guests were 'satisfied' with their stay. Neither were offered. These little customer service skills should never be sacrificed, especially with front line staff. Chamber maids, grounds keepers, most do not speak English, yet their smiles are very welcoming and they make the effort to ensure you are welcome, they are fantastic!!!

We stayed at Sol Cayo Largo for a week and had a wonderful time. The food and the service was good, we loved it that there were choices were to go and not just a buffet. The snack bar by the pool was a great choice. We liked the privacy of the rooms, it felt as we were at home. The entertainment was great, we enjoyed the shows every night and the games everyday at the pool and by the ocean. We will definitely go back to this resort.

We really enjoyed our time at Sol Cayo Largo. The food was the best we have had yet in the 8 times we have been to Cuba. Friendly staff especially Omar the omlette guy! The a la carts were fantastic, clean room and facilities. The beach was super. No coral in the water to stub your toes on. Would suggest it to anyone who asks!!!

The service is very bad no customer service – terrible only one beach towel the whole day all .the only things was nice and clean is the pool ,and the beach is so so for Cuba you The entertainment team was very bad

This was our third time at the Sol Cayo Largo. We go there because the beach is simply amazing! The resort is old, but they do their best with what they have to keep it updated. The food at the two a-la-cartes is very good. The buffet gets a little repetitive after 7 days. There was a lack of fresh fruit during our week. There is a lack of palapas. I guess many have been destroyed and not rebuilt. The little train is still running and does 3 trips to the marina where you take the catamaran to Playa Sirena. We had no water problems during our stay. Excellent water pressure all the time. Large bottle of water delivered daily to your room. No problems with towels (bath and beach). The rooms are old and in need of renovation, but are clean.

This was a very typical stay for Cuba. The beaches were amazing. The ocean was awesome. The service varied. Very very good at the lobby bar and at the dinner buffet. The pool bar was hit and miss and so was the Ranchon service. As for the food, well, its a buffet so you can always find something. Loved the pasta bar, the Ranchon lunch buffet not so much. No bbq s they were out of charcoal.

Food can always be improved in Cayo Largo but the food is not why we went there.The hotel ,grounds ,rooms and staff exceeded our expectations. The beach is the main reason we go to the Sol. We certainly will be back.

First I would like to thank to the hotel staff for changing the room but...if only would be ALL about the resort! would be perfect for us. But the ocean...only 3 from 7 days we were able to swim there at Lindarena beach in front of Sol resort. First 4 days big dangerous waves spread algae all over .The transport to other amazing beaches was not free of charge, be aware. We enjoyed to walk kilometers on the beach to the right towards Paraiso and Sirena beach and to the left towards Lindamar villas. Splendid sand the softest I found in Cuba! Clear waters and amazing sunset!. The Sol Cayo Largo Resort, room and food were good. Tennis fields, fitness and body building corner were clean, modern and very well designed inspiring relaxation and beauty, a lot of flowers and vegetation around. I guess all the Quebecois missed the bacon :). Considering it is an main Island we expected to receive more fresh fish and a bit variety of sea food. About the buffet, the food: fresh veggies and fresh fruits were missing the first 3 days but were present all days lot of blue cheese, grill (chicken, beef, porc, white fish) and salmon NOT Salmonella :)... I appreciated for four stars soft sparkling imported orange juice, white and red wine, splendid rum were all days present and 1 liter and a half bottled water per room. Bravo for your good local water melon, pickled cabbage and fresh squash! Was very well done! The wonderful taste and smell of the Cuban bread we cannot forget. Room and resort general conditions are good and very clean all the time. Both rooms were equipped with very quite and modern air condition AC and blind dark curtains. The staff is friendly and professional as in many other resorts in Cuba and make us revisit. Miguel Antonio, Oscar, Angel you are amazing hard working and kind and we hope to came back and see you again!

The resort is very clean and beautiful. The rooms on the ground floor are at a 3 stars level whereas the ones on the 2nd floor are suppose to be much better but are reserved for customers returning to the resort. The service is very good. All the workers are friendly and smiling. There are very entertaining shows every night. The food is not great quality but enough variety even for me who is a strict vegetarian.

My wife and I spent two weeks at Sol Cayo Largo, Cuba in March 2019 and it was truly the best vacation we have experienced, in terms of beaches, cuisine, accommodations and friendly staff. The powdery, soft sand allowed us to walk on the beaches endlessly, since the sand doesn't burn your feet. The swimming was terrific in all areas of the beach, including the beaches at neighbouring resorts. The nude sections of the beaches were very good with ample lounges and shade. The guests were polite at all times which lead to enjoyable hours of soaking up the sun, relaxing, reading or napping. By and large, fellow guests were very friendly with numerous ethnic languages spoken, yet the majority of guests were able to converse in English. The grounds SOL were beautiful, with abundant shade if you wanted it, a huge pool that wasn't crowded and ample lounges to relax on. Daily towel exchange was terrific and the towels were large and new. The Housekeeping staff were efficient and friendly and nothing was too difficult for them to tend to. Money exchange was a breeze at the front desk and if you want a taxi or bus to a beach or to the Marina, the wait was very short and the cost was very reasonable. We rented an ATV for the entire day and travelled to Paraiso Beach, the Marina and nearby resorts. The wide, sand road to the beach areas was a great ATV ride and traffic was minimal. Rental rates were very reasonable. There was a bit of a wait at the rental desk, but worth the wait! The buffet style breakfasts and dinners in Las Dunas were more than anticipated, with great variety and very service-oriented staff who always smiled and did their very best to enhance your visit. We will be back annually to SOL Cayo Largo for another restful and rejuvenating vacation!

The perfect hotel for a quiet, chill, relaxing vacation. Rooms are pretty standard for Cuba, service is excellent, food above average. Beach is narrow but beautiful and not too busy. If you're looking for more calm than party atmosphere, this is the place for you. If you like cats, even better! There are plenty of felines eager for attention. It was fairly easy for Mom, who walks with a cane, to get around. I would definitely recommend this resort.

Pro's - Nice beach, great weather and lots of chairs and space. Super quiet and relaxing, just 10 min from the airport. Typical Cuban food. Great pasta, omelettes, toast and jam and roast chicken. Con's- most of the food comes from a jar or can, including fruit and vegetables. None of the open food was covered even with plastic wrap and the flies were on everything. Soooo many cats with the smell of cat urine in the buffet and wooden walkways. Many of these cats have infected eyes and beg for food at the edge of the restaurants or wander in and clean up the floors. We were told that a few cats were brought to the island to rid it of lizards but no one thought to spay or neuter them. The staff seemed very unhappy The rooms really need some attention, especially the bathrooms, and electrical. We had to move rooms because our first one had no power in the main room unless you manipulated the plug.

This was our third stay at Sol Cayo Largo. It is our favourite Cuban destination. The staff are friendly and the accommodations very nice. The food is quite good also. But the best feature of this resort is the excellent beach. It has a large clothing optional section as well!!! Next year we plan on going for two weeks!!!

-Grounds were well maintain - all food was cold ... it would be nicer hot - service was good - l would have enjoyed more activities - it would have been nice if the band played before or after the performances for guests to dance - the pool was well maintained - l was looking forward to a hot tub ... not a cold tub - the massages l had were fantastic - the resort was quiet, peaceful and relaxing - we did not have water on the morning of our last stay - it would have been nice to be shown the guest room on the first day - group games - cards, board games would be fun - learning Cuban crafts - Cuban cooking classes - l would have enjoyed fruit encases in it peel .. bananas , oranges - the musicians were great

We stayed at hotel Sol Cayo Largo from Jan 26 till Feb 3rd. This is our second time at Cayo Largo and we'll be definitely back again. Hotel is old but well maintained and clean. Food was OK just one small thing - not much self service at the main restaurant which causes line-ups. Beaches are amazing despite ocean took a big part of it Sirena & Paraiso are still the best in Caribbean. It's good idea to bring your own umbrella or shade. thank you Trip Central for your good service :-) thank you Sol Cayo Largo staff for you hospitality. :-)

Sol Cayo largo is the oldest of the hotels on the island. The El Cayito Lobby Bar is the social center of the hotel. As such, this hotel is more an adult resort. Families with children are advised to book the Pelicano next door. The hotel has many cats that have settled in there. Bring cat food with you and try giving them treats away from the dining halls, where their begging is a recurring problem. The ocean in front of the hotel is usually rough. If you want to snorkel, be prepared to go to Playa Sirena where the water is generally calmer. Best fish viewing is at the base of the navigation marker about 400 yards off the beach.

...for beach lovers & other strangers. We go to Cuba for the beach, nothing else... loved it !. We had a nice clean room on the second floor with a beautiful view including the sunset. The room could use a bit of sprucing up but it was clean and everything worked. We always take some bug spray. The staff is wonderful. Cuba beaches are beautiful and even the bad weather days are pleasant... We spend our days on the beach not the pool. We always find something good to eat but we do not go to Cuba for the culinary experience. . Planning to do back next year... YES 😎😎😎

The hotel in general has everything what you need, unfortunately it is very outdated and needs defenitily a big renovation. The beach in front of the hotel has nice waves where you can body surf, walking a bit further you will meet the nudist beach, which isn't for everybody, but can be visit by your own choice. Walking even more further you will find beaches your dream off, so better pack some water and some sandwiches and spend a wonderful day fare from the crowd. Everybody at the hotel is very friendly and accomodating, the all inclusive package makes it easy to walk around without worrying to bring any money with you. Foodwise there are defenitly some strong improvements recommended, even do I believe the chef tries to do his best, from what he gets delivered.

The resort is less than 4 miles from the airport. The grounds are well maintained. The buildings are built on approximately 3 ft. high stilts. The buildings, rooms, salt water pools, sidewalks etc. are dated & do need some repair. The beaches are awesome. Food in the La Dunas buffet is usually cold since there are no heated lights, so we had freshly prepared eggs, meats, fish & pasta. There are the usual suspects at the dinner buffet: pork; chicken, beef; and fish. The food in the 2 a la cartes restaurants, Cuban & International, is much better. The Solazul snack bar features pizza, chicken baguette, 3 types of pasta, fried calamari or fish and a bar, of course. Breakfast in Las Dunas begins at 7:30 a.m. Lunch in the Ranchon begins at 12:30 p.m. and is a worthwhile place for lunch offering grilled chicken, pork sausages, hamburgers, hot dogs and a pork roast. Lunch at Las Dunas begins at 1:00 p.m. but the selections are sparse. Dinner in Las Dunas & the a la cartes begins at 7:00 p.m. We had no bacon at breakfast until our last day just before we had to board our bus. Our room was well maintained, but we waited 3 hours before we were able to move in. Once in, we discovered that the king mattress was faulty, and was never replaced. We didn't have towels until the evening of our 3rd day. The air conditioner was finally fixed on the 2nd day. The lobby bar does not have an extensive selection of liquors. There is no brandy, cognac, kahlua or amaretto, but their rums are plentiful. The native Cubans are friendly & helpful when asked about anything. It's definitely a quiet, relaxing resort with shows beginning at 9:30 p.m. Buses to Playa Sirena are "free" and available only in the morning. It's definitely a very worthwhile trip. The palapas can be rented for 2 cucs and water can be purchased for 1 cuc.

We arrived Jan 13 -20, 2019. We had to wait three hours for a room which we didn't like. Our room eventually was at the back of the resort but we had booked last minute. Room needs to be updated as it looked tired and needed some paint. Bed was not good. Felt like springs were out. Other than that - food was good (buffet morning food was a bit cold but I think people complained and so they fixed that problem. Al la cartes were great. Cuban and International. Two pools which were very nice. We stayed on quiet side of pool and it wasn't crowded at all. Beach was amazing. Waves were high the first few days but calmed down. Naturalist beach at one end. People very friendly. Staff amazing. Lots of cats so bring cat food. There is an area of fish and a turtle which we fed daily. Friendly bar where most people congregated before and after dinner. We plan on going back next year hopefully for two weeks. Weather was amazing, warm and sunny all day. (No snowstorms like home).

It is not a 5 star resort so food may be limited. Staff go the extra mile to please and very friendly. Lovely grounds kept clean. My second time at this resort and will return. The beach is washed out. compared to a previous visit but we managed. Beach erosion controlled by Mother Nature and not the hotel. As the title says this is a good value vacation.

Fantastic Beach with or without swimsuits ! Food was reasonable, easy trek from airport. Just a nice inexpensive trip in the sun. This is a place that I would return to in a heartbeat and consider 2 weeks next time. The C/O beach fills up early with towels and t-shirts placed on the lounges. While we were there from Jan 11-18 2019, they painted up new signs saying no reserving sunbeds the day or night before (you could pay a few pesos earlier in the week for the privilege but no more). So you had to get up early and grab a coffee and go for a little walk to find a palapa and a couple chairs. Buffet was open for breakfast and dinner only. Lunch was available at the beach restaurant or the pool snackbar, both fine.

The last of the three cayo islands to explore in Cuba and by far our best time to date. Temperatures were in the high 20s (celsius) daily with nothing but sunshine. The hotel itself provided what we need by way of cleanliness and amenities but as others have mentioned, it is tired and past its prime. We had an opportunity to rent scooters and toured the other hotels on the island and Sol was by far the best. The food is typical of Cuba but as always, you won't go hungry. The staff were wonderful, our room was clean with plenty of hot water with new a/c units. In all, a fantastic week.

Everythings it very good for what Sol Cayo largo have to offer and that honest review. if u want perfect then do not go there. We would go back agian. love the beach and peoples r so kind and friendly.

NO BEACH!!!! Food was basic, services were basic, room was good. Trip Central and Hola Sun advertised and endorsed inaccurate information and images about the resort on their website where they show a beautiful beach with white sand. Instead we found only rocks and palapas and chairs thrown on the rocks. We had to travel for an hour to a beach and another hour back to the hotel every day. We did not benefit from the all inclusive package during the day because we were far away from the resort.

This was our third time at Sol Cayo Largo. We enjoy this quiet resort. We were disappointed the beach was gone this trip, but we still enjoyed the pool area and hot weather. The staff are friendly and the beach beside our hotel was beautiful.

We love Sol Cayo Largo and have been several times. The food is ok/passable (can't complain for the price) but we really go there for the beach and sunshine. The hotel is clean and service is excellent although the place is a bit shabby - we don't care. It is not for everyone - if you enjoy luxury it is not for you. Casual and friendly atmosphere. Mostly older clientele (40+). We enjoy the clothing optional beach and the very short transfer from airport to hotel.

Best resort in Cuba! Staff, food and beach are all amazing. Great break before Christmas. The beach washed out a bit due to high waves and weather, but sunny and hot (just the way it should be). No need to say more...

Hotel Sol Cayo Largo was a very good place for us - not much for people looking for noisy parties, but best place for us. Rooms are simple but clean; rooms service was good, they provide only a bottle o f water daily, no beer or soft drinks but we didn’t need these anyway. The grounds are well maintained, the beech is not at its best just in front, but the beach restaurant Ranchon that works as buffet at lunch was with the best combination of view, good food and good service. Our waiter Benilio made the lunches extra pleasant. The pool bar had an excellent quality snacks and equally good service. Definitely the crowd was more mature, not many young people but to some of us this was a plus. People were a good mix of Canadians, Italians, German....overall a week we will remember with very warm feelings and most likely will be back

Sol appartements are looking great from the outside, but... After a late evening check in that lasted for an hour, we were assigned room 1011. We walked to it at about 10PM, the resort looking in good condition under the electric lights. We opened the door and walked in, quickly realizing that the AC had'nt been turned on prior to our arrival. Managing to turn a grim light on, we sadly noticed the poor condition of the furniture that had been painted in white a few times already but in dire need for an other coat. All the light shades must have been dating from the resort's original days, badly yellowed and looking dirty. The patio for was almost unopable, having been forced with something from the inside. Wouldn’t lock as well, as the lock was broken. The bathroom was OK, discounting the fact that the plumbing in the bath was all loose and sticking out from the wall. The beds mattresses had seen better days also... We managed to turn the AC on, quickly noticing a strong rumble that couldn’t be fixed. Oh well... The property itself was in quite good condition. The pieces of meat that were served at the evening buffet were really good but as for most Cuba outfit, selection was scarce. The worst ceartainly the morning buffet, where fruits were almost non existant, except for pineapples and and some orange pieces that were somewhat covered by fruit flies. Hum... No yogurt and bad coffee. All in all, we certainly were disappointed by the Sol, knowing that it's the most expensive resort in Cayo Largo. The Pelicano gardens certainly were not in as good condition, but everything else was better for a much cheaper price. Melià, you have some serious work to do there....

The grounds were well kept. The buildings are old but clean. The personnel were very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. The beach was very well kept. It was like a dream come true to walk on such white sandy beach. The Playa Serena 10 minutes away was breathtaking with pristine waters.

Sol is an old but clean resort. The grounds are well kept. A lot of renovations were done, and a lot as still to be done. The food is always Cuba, you don’t go to Cuba for it you go for the sea! That being said you wont starve you can always find something, pizza and pasta often do the trick. Also the fish at the international restaurant on premises. We went for a catamaran tour it was awesome! If you go, ask for Betty for Capitan she is a sweetheart! We also rented a quad went to the marina to shop for souvenirs, went to the others beaches, and to see the oldest tree of Cuba the Yunna tree, fun times! Will certainly go for a 6th time even if it’s not perfect it’s still where it’s closest to paradise for us!

The grounds are beautiful and varied. Service is in every way prompt and courteous. Food is appetizing and varied. You can even have bubbly wine in the morning with your breakfast :-) The rooms are large and clean. Many, on the second floor, have view on the sea even though they are not "rooms with sea view". However, many rooms provide a limited view, ie. give out on other bungalows... On the negative side, water is not always available on the grounds. It seems the desalinization plant can't keep up with the number of the hotels on the island. Water was cut off periodically, although even the hotel manager denies it. I talked with many repeaters who confirmed the fact. After a while, we found out that water was available at around 5AM to 10 or 11AM, then it was cut off till 5PM when it was available again till around 10 or 11PM, then cut off again till 5AM... We were very unlucky this year because we had heavy rain for over a week. Matters were made worse by the fact water was seeping in our second floor bedroom along one of the walls. I had to use our towels to keep water out of the central part of the bedroom so we would not slip while going to the bathroom (then when we did, we could not flush the toilet for lack of water...). We where offered to change room. Lots of people on second floors had the same problem, so we couldn't take the risk of repacking and unpacking again to find ourselves in a similar situation elsewhere. Luckily, before our first week was over, the lady next door reached the end of her vacation. We made arrangements with the office to change rooms. We were able to expedite matters by moving our belongings using the front veranda. Finally, to our dismay, while we were waiting for the signal to enter the "outdoor cafeteria", when we saw a person spraying the tables with a solution to kill flies. Of course, the tables were already set with cutlery and glasses... people didn't understand our concerns... When I underlined the fact to Public Relations, I was told that this matter would be corrected. I'm not sure it was corrected the proper way. A doubt lingered... Of course we wouldn't see this anymore.It would be done sooner... The spraying at night was common on the grounds...

Hotel grounds and rooms were all well maintained. When problems were encountered, they were addressed quickly. One could always find something to eat, though it wasn't always hot when it was a hot dish nor cold when it was a cold dish. Flies and cats and birds were a problem in the open-air restaurants, which is most of them. Staff was friendly and, in most cases, very eager to accommodate any need.

People and staff more than pleasant, helpful and friendly. would defiantly return because of them and the most beautiful beach, Resort was rated as four star...should be two star, very poor selection of food, no brewed coffee, no real juice, rooms run down, one day no water at all, beach equipment not even on resort site as shown on website pictures.

The hotel was clean and the staff (for example the guys who were doing the pizza, the pancakes and the pasta) was nice and polite. The beach was lovely and calm.The food was good, but I miss fruits a little.

This is our second time at his resort .We had a great holiday and we are definitely going back. We love it there, the people who work at the resort are so friendly and want to make sure you are happy. The beach was beautiful, the food was great!!!

Cayo Largo is a beautiful and we love going there. We have been to other islands in the Caribbean, an for the price you can't beat it. the beaches are beautiful, its so peaceful and relaxing. Sol Cayo Largo Resort, we feel is the best resort out of the 8 or 9 on the island. It has the best grounds, the biggest pool with swim up bar and the largest and very clean rooms. The food was awesome and with a great selection. There wasn't anything to complain about. We LOVE the people of Cuba especially at the resort. They treated us like gold and are so kind. They work so hard for the little they make and it upsets me when i see other travelers at the resort getting ignorant with them.

I went to Sol with a few of my friends for a week getaway and it did not disappoint! Amazing staff, night shows, and beach! Would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing beach vacation with good food. Defiantly would consider going back next year!

Loved our stay, staff always willing to please as always...beach is a five star plus... Lots of food choices... bar plentiful also. We are return clients of many times, and always welcomed with open arms with perks...which are really appreciated!

Although we loved the beach at Sol Club, we had what appeared to be a "comedy of errors" on this our 7th visit to this resort. Our toilet did not work for our first 24 hours...but they did come to fix it finally. We rarely had hot water.....at the most it was luke warm in the evening but cold for a morning shower. We requested a technician several times and were finally told that some units rely on solar power for hot water....seeing as we had a few cloudy days the solar panels couldn't supply enough hot water. In addition to no hot water, the general water pressure was very poor and not sufficient for someone with long hair.......the showers at the spa had plenty of hot water and great pressure. I could only open the patio door a few inches.....it was so heavy and off it's track....without my husband's help it couldn't be opened. Otherwise.....where else can you get an hour massage for $25.00......where else are the staff so friendly and the beach so beautiful.....where you can walk naked for miles......plus all the CHICKEN you can eat!!! Honestly though, ....if it weren't for the beach and the reasonable cost....we would not likely return. We would not recommend this resort to friends as their resort expectations are higher than ours....whereas a great beach is more important to us.

We enjoy Sol Cayo Largo very much. This was our second visit. Staff work very hard to please guests. Food is not up to North American standards but you are not paying North American prices so it is fine - you won't go hungry. The property is lovely. The pool is beautiful. The spa is nice - enjoyed our massages very much. The returning guests party was wonderful - made us feel really special and valued. The room was good - clean and functional. The beaches are fantastic - that is really the main reason to be there. Most guests would be 40+. Naturist/clothing optional on once side. There are many cats on the property but we like them. Will look forward to returning soon.

Second time at the resort - we had a great time and plan to return next year. The beach is amazing, and the staff are the best. And a big thank you to Mike at Tripcentral for coordinating the booking. Wonderful!

The resort has a few issues that are going to have to be addressed soon. The equipment in the exercise rooms are in sore need of repair. None of the electrically controlled equipment (stepper, elliptical, exercise bikes, etc) were functioning. The weight room needs some up-dating as well as many of the flat weights are broken. The pool needs new liners or at the least holes repaired (and there must be many). The food, as usual, was good and varied. The service is always good here and any problems with the rooms are almost instantly corrected.

The hotel is the nicest on the island, we visited the others. It also has a lovely beach right by it, though a visit to Playa Sirena and Playa Paraiso are also a must. The staff is friendly and remembers repeat guests on sight. It's no surprise that most guests are repeat visitors.

Neg : The resort is an Old beaten down place, Food was the worst I had. Cats running around while you eat. Mosquitos haven on the resort. I won't go back to Cayo Largo. Pos : The beach is unreal very nice ! Friendly staff.

Just got back from a relaxing trip in Cayo Largo. This was my third time at the Sol Cayo Largo. I traveled with my friend. Upon arrival we got very good adjoining oceanview rooms. The view from our balcony was amazing. The white sand beaches and turquoise water around the island are breathtaking. Hotel staff are very friendly and professional. I will certainly be back again.

Sol CL is a nice place to enjoy the atmosphere of Cayo Largo. Check-in is confusing, more porters are required. Rooms are spacious and very clean, but during heavy rains, water pools on the floor - very slippery. I had no hot water for 3 days. It was cloudy and the solar heater didn't have a chance. A la Carte dinners are excellent. The white wine is good, the red - so-so. Better organized, and inclusive, trips to Playa Sirenas and Paraiso are required. I recommend this resort, I have stayed at 2 others on CL and this is the best of the 3. Slightly better than PB, only due to the beach. Turtle release was a highlight. Cubana was the low spot.

Very close to the airport, you will be checked in within an hour of arrival. Beautifully landscapes and maintained grounds, with two salt water pools and fish pond and artificial river. Large, well equipped rooms and comfortable beds. Stunning beach with the white powder sand and turquiose see, plenty of fish swimming in the shallow water. Basic food. Excellent entertainment program, with live Latino music, and great dance shows with professionaly trained ballet dancers. Would highly recommend this resort.

Nice, quiet place. We had an amazing time. Thank to Pedro, he makes my husband 's birthday really special. Also, thanks to guys and girls at the restaurant s , it was always something prepared for us at the table. Feels in a friendly environment. This is our favorite place since this June. Of course, it was a few little troubles with water and weather, but it does not ruined our Vacation Will be back soon.

Vacationed here from May 26th - June 2nd. Now if you want a smaller simple nice resort with a great beach, social interior bar with warm ambience, clean rooms, great dance shows and good service then this is the one for you. 5 minutes from the airport and you have arrived! No time wasted in transit. This combined with an 11 am arrival make it a true 7 day vacation. Vacations don't have to be over the top to be enjoyed as long as expectations line up with what you actually get. That's why these reviews are so helpful. You get all the basics well done at the Sol Cayo Largo. The beach has powder coral sand which does not get hot underfoot! Cayo Santa Maria often get jellyfish but rarely here. The awesome section of beach is often wavey but can be still at times. As someone who enjoys bodysurfing I got my fill on short run near beach break waves. Tons of beach chairs and umbrellas. The room air conditioning was a new modern up to date Westinghouse unit witch worked perfectly! Staff were nice, keep some Cuban dollars for tips. The average Cuban wage is $25 a month, so a Cuban dollar tip is greatly appreciated! Water pressure is low but that was ok considering this is an island I am glad they conserve their water. Food is 3.5 star Cuban, no fresh veggies because everything must be shipped in but I was satisfied to find something I liked in every meal. I really enjoyed the evening dance shows, the best I have seen in Cuba, with really beautiful dancers with a pro ballet repertoire and nice choreography. This resort, and I am a bit conflicted to write it as it will drive up the price, is a best kept secret among its fans. I met many many guests who were repeat guests. Several claimed 10 times, one couple 40 times another woman 35 times. That is the best testimony I can give to this resort.

I highly recommend this very lovely resort hotel. We booked dinner reservations at all the restaurants,Trinos, Ranch House, International cuisine & Lobster on the beach dinner The food was excellent,with a variety of fruits, vegetables, salads, fish and meat dishes & desserts, to choose from. We especially enjoyed the Lobster on the Beach, which I highly recommend. The grounds of the resort are very nicely kept, with beautiful flowers & coconut palms everywhere. We chose the Superior Ocean View Room, large room with a very clean lovely size bathroom. However the view was a bit disappointing as our room was on the lower lever. Service is excellent. The Pool is beautifully maintained. Enjoyed the swim up bar , and restaurant overlooking the pool & the cuban music. Food service by the pool is fast & most enjoyable as well. There is also a cafe open 24 hours, for morning or evening cappuccino, drinks etc....which overlooks a fish pond, & pool, which I very much enjoyed. Service was excellent, and the reception was very friendly & helpful.

We've been going to this hotel since 12 years and we find that more than 60% of the people comes back to this place. We find that since Melia took over, the quality of the food, hotel rooms has declined. The hotel needs renovations but when they do it, they paint it all white taking off all the charms of the colors before. Even the doors for the closets and fridge are taken off. There's no more kleenex or small towels in thenrooms we had vegetables and fruits in cans for the buffet. The buffet for the evening was was ok but for dinner time, there was not much to choose from so we ended eating a lot of spagettis, pizza and papas fritas! It's sad to see that cause the hotel is wonderful and the beaches are beautiful. We really think that it's time to choose another place cause it looks like they won't change much cause they know that the clients comes back again and again. So I invited everybody to send their remarks on the hotel because a lot of people have made comments on the week but it stops there!

Beautiful resort, clean, kind staff. Best food we've had in Cuba. Cubana flight worst. Just don't! 14 hour delay, scary plane. No communication. Rude guests at resort. Budding, spitting, cursing, we were 2 of 15(ish) English speaking guests at the hotel. Never encountered guests as rude as this. Barking orders, snapping fingers. Hard to relax under such circumstances. Felt awful for the staff and ourselves. Ocean was red flag to the point you would get hurt if you went in. Strong strong currents. Respect the sea! So many good things at this resort over shadowed by rude guests and as beach goers I wouldn't return. This is common to the area so be forewarned. No such thing as a bad holiday, we make the best of any situation. Unfortunate as I feel it could have been the best week if certain situations didn't occur. Being cussed out by people for asking them to get in line is not my idea of a holiday.
