The resort was very clean. Staff were accommodating and work hard! Rooms were clean and in excellent shape. As with other resorts, be careful in the shower as hard to stabilize hot and cold. Entertainment was very good. Food in ala cart excellent and buffets were good.

Had a wonderful time at Barcelo. Food was great. Italian and Seafood restaurants were very good. Service in the buffet and restaurants was A+. Room was nice and always clean. Would definitely return.

We just returned from our trip to Huatulco which we booked thru trip central with Erin Thunder who helped us with the entire booking process, which she was amazing to deal with. We stayed at the Barcelo which was all common areas and rooms were very clean and well kept. The food was great we tried all food areas offered during our stay and it offered a great selection of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. The beach area was fantastic but you had up be up early to get your spot for the day. We will definitely stay there again in the future...it is a great location and will use trip central to book our return. Huatulco has the best weather we experienced and hotel didn't let us down at all.

Let’s start with the positive Great Beach, rooms are clean. The rest is all negative the food was terrible. Drinks were awful unable to get any premium drinks unless you pay for the premium package. Not enough sun beds! If you get to the pool or beach around 8:00am you can forget getting any lounger as they are all reserved. Buffet was absolutely awful always out of ketchup plus long line ups for food. Almost impossible to get a bottle of water. Used the gym asked for a bottle as you only get 2 bottles in your room was met with a really rude person with attitude, wanting us to drink from dispensers that have been sitting out in 30 degree weather. NO THANK YOU!! Since when is water bottles not included this is a disgrace Barcelo should be embarrassed and ashamed

The beach, ocean, and weather were great! The sand was coarse and difficult to walk along because of the steep slope but it was a beautiful cove. The rooms were nice, beds and pillows were comfortable, the shower was always hot, and housekeeping did a good job. BUT had to wake up at 6:30am each day just to get a chair under the shade on the beach. Not enough shade or chairs near the pool or the beach, it was an absolute headache. I preferred bottled water because I was pregnant while traveling and basically had to beg for more bottles. Tired to get some at the gym and at the bars but only got dirty looks and apparently no one speaks English when you need something there. The buffet was terrible our first night (it was Mexican night) and we went to bed hungry. Breakfast and lunch buffets were hit and miss, sometimes good but never consistent and always seemed like they were running out of food and options. The restaurants had good service and better food but we ended up going across the street for dinner at the restaurant because the dinner buffets were never great. Booked a boat ride around lunch at the water activities center and when we showed up at 4pm, the employee actually said he didn’t feel like going out, and that it was too much work to set up the boats. Two days before it was too busy, the day before it was too windy. This was our last full day there and we left disappointed.

The resort is well maintained. The bartenders were always quick with a drink, but I'm pretty sure the alcohol is watered down. The food at the buffets was blah. Same things everyday. The Italian a la carte is amazing. We also tried the seafood and Mexican which were just okay. Be warned, a lot of the food is spicy!

As this was our first time at an All Exclusive Resort we were not sure what to expect. The Barcelo resort was beautiful- the staff were amazing, the food was great and the pool and beach were fantastic! We didn't have a single complaint and would return again in a heartbeat. Thank you for such a relaxing time!

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. The beach is great to walk around on but you want to do it before noon as it gets very HOT 🥵. And go for a walk you will want to do as there are fish to feed at the end by the Dreams hotel where the rocks are. Bring fruit 🍌 as it is healthy for them lol. This time we spent the extra couple of hundred and stayed at the Premier part. Having room service and being able to go to a restaurants every evening is nice. They still use the old system of having to make reservations. When will hotels realize that NO ONE likes this. There are other hotels where a person doesn’t need to make reservations. You go to the restaurant you would like to eat at … if it’s full you are then given a vibrating disk. You go to the lounge have a pre dinner drink 🍹 and wait for your disk to vibrate. It takes care of people feeling like they can never go to a restaurant that you’d really like to try or where the customers feel that there is some favouritism going on. The hotel definitely makes a person feel that they want you to have a great time and if there is anything they can do to help with that they will. The only other issue besides the restaurant reservations is the lack of rooms with king size beds. It happened to at least to 10 other couples that we talked to while we were there for the first week. When questioned the front desk stated it was because it’s a family resort. Well evidently there is a need for “adult” rooms! It starts a person’s holiday off to a bad start when you have to go down and BEG to get moved to a room that you can sleep with your spouse. All in all I would go back to this hotel. For the price and what you receive I feel the price is reasonable. The staff are friendly and work hard for your enjoyment. Oh I also recommend going to their evening shows!! They are amazing and you will be glad you went. Plus from last year to this one they redid their whole program. Not one evening was a repeat from last year.

Loved this Barcelo , very clean public areas and rooms ! Staff was friendly , easy to understand and seemed to love their jobs! Great evening shows , dancers and singers were very talented. Was there 10 years ago and would go back again! Please pass along my thanks for a great vacation .

The staff at the resort made the experience fantastic. Everyone was singing and happily working. The resort is clean and the beach is beautiful. I recommend this spot due to the fantastic people who work there. Especially Alberto Reyes who watched over us and made sure we felt safe and looked after.

Clean, lots to do, wonderful place to vacation! Staff fantastic. Excellent views of the ocean. Wished there were more food choices. Food was fair. Looking forward to returning to this resort as we had a wonderful time.

Probably like most resorts there is a reduction in client's and cash. This hotel, this chain of hotels the Barcello had such a reputation for luxury. This resort in Huatulco does fall short of that mark it's not 4.5 stars a strong 3 star. The problem is not the staff they were all great. They are understaffed and over worked. The problem is corporate greed yes times are tough but it's a mistake to lower the staff's ability to offer a great experience. This severe cost cutting while still charging full fare will hurt your reputation. So please would the billionaire owners dig deeper and bring the Barcello's reputation back. Richard

We finally made it to Huatulco, and we are sold! We will return for sure! From the moment we arrived at the airport (we were the only plane that landed at the time!) we found the airport staff and security to be friendly. We got through security within minutes and were on our way to the Barcelo. Such beautiful winding roads and incredible scenery on our way to the resort. Upon arrival, we were welcomed immediately, checked in and offered a special drink at the Premium Lounge. The staff in the Premium Lounge were ALWAYS friendly and helpful. I believe Victor is the name of the gentleman who always made our drinks. Such a nice man. We booked Premium Oceanfront because we want a la cartes every night, ocean front room and nice balcony. We were thrilled with our room! We were even able to have an a la carte on our first night, thanks to the Premium Lounge staff! I did not get the names of the ladies in the Premium Lounge, but they were consistently helpful, always smiling and giving their best to their customers. We were in Room 234. Gorgeous room, comfy bed, amazing view. The one suggestion is to have better coffee in the room. The coffee in the lobby is terrific, but in the room it is way too weak, unfortunately. The only downside to this room is if there are weddings, it can be quite loud until 11:15 PM. We requested to have our room tidied up before lunch, and it was always done for us! Again, the staff are super friendly and accommodating. We had the pleasure of LUZ welcoming us with her beautiful smile every morning at the Breakfast buffet. Breakfasts were always delicious, lots of choices! Lunch was always at La Tortuga because the main buffet did not open for lunch until 2:00 PM. We never had any issues finding something scrumptious to eat at lunch! You have to try the fabulous pork tacos!!! Our favourite waiters were Angel, and I believe Francisco. Angel, our singing waiter was absolutely amazing. He made our day. We feel having a little extra personal service goes a LONG way! Francisco, quieter, but so professional and kind. We always had terrific service in this restaurant! I am sorry if I didn't get everyone's name, but thank you to ALL of you. Making an la carte reservations, having Premium is quick and easy! We prefer a 6:30 seating and enjoyed a la cartes every single night we were at the resort, 6 Italian, 6 Mexican and 2 Japanese. All had exceptional service! We absolutely loved the Italian for the superb and friendly, attentive service, the amazing and talented piano man (that added so much to our time in the restaurant) and of course the food!!! The Mexican was lovely, as you could sit outside and it was very private, and again fantastic service, delicious menu choices and very private and romantic. We were able to reserve the Japanese twice. It is a bit trickier to get into as there is limited seating. Mariano was exceptional. The lady that made the sushi was lovely and the food delicious! We did not eat off the resort. We felt there were enough choices and we wanted to try as much as we could while there! (one suggestion might be to have one more a la carte choice if possible!) Special people that really stood out for us were, Angel, Francisco, Luz and Gabby (first met Gabby in the Mexican) Fernando, the beach waiter, such a young gentleman, so kind and professional. We were impressed with all staff, but these members stood out for just going out of their way to make our stay a bit more personal. Now for the beach - WOW is all we can say! Pristine, clean, no seaweed, swimmable and absolutely lovely. You can also snorkel right off the Barcelo beach close to the island or to the left in front of the Dreams resort. It's not lots, but you can see different fish. You can book to have a kayak for an hour or go on a catamaran ride. The weather is perfect here, not one rainy or cloudy day! Walking outside the resort, you don't find garbage, or litter anywhere. It is absolutely beautiful and safe and friendly. We enjoyed the two shops in the resort and did purchase a few items. We also walked across the street to shop and found more treasures to bring home! We took a taxi to La Crucecita and to Santa Cruz. Very cheap and fun to explore both little towns. We went on one excursion (through WestJet) Fun in the Sun. It was definitely worth the $54.00 per person. We left the lobby at 9:20 AM and were back to the resort just before 4:00 PM. Abel was our guide and Louis Sr and Jr our captains. They were a wealth of information along the way. We were fortunate enough to see humpback whales! We stopped at two bays, one to snorkel at (terrific snorkelling) and one to have lunch! Breathtaking views, secluded bays, fantastic service and scrumptious lunch!!!! I did aquafit most days and did the stretching class once. The instructors were always friendly and professional and fun!! The activities staff were a lot of fun, very friendly and tried hard to get people involved! I could go on and on about this resort and this area. We did try the Fish Spa, even though I had to drag my husband in!!! It was wonderful and the best part being able to visit with Albino and his lovely wife Marta. Our feet felt so nice and soft afterwards. We would highly recommend this spa and we would do this again!! We will absolutely return and definitely recommend the Barcelo Huatulco. The Barcelo Huatulco is one of the best resorts that we have stayed at. The all inclusive travel package offered by WestJet is certainly the way to go. The resort grounds are immaculate, the beach is fantastic, food and drink are readily available, and service is one of the resort's best features. In all, a great experience.

This resort had virtually everything we hoped for in a sunny destination all-inclusive. It was not too large, It was clean, in good repair, casual yet tasteful, well staffed and felt safe. The beach access was close and easy. Loungers and palapas were provided free of charge, you had the choice between full sun exposure and shade around the pool or on the beach. The location was removed from busy roads yet close enough that you could easily explore the town of La Crucecita Central Park which I would recommend. The Airport was reasonably close too. The beach and ocean floor has nice sand. Ocean water was clean but I would suggest increased level of caution for children & non-swimmers as wave break was right at the shore and undertow strong most days.

The restaurants are to small and there is only 2 pools that are poorly maintained otherwise great resort very clean They are doing a great job with Covid mask are worn by all staff all the time Felt very comfortable and safe

This resort lived up to expectations. Was right on the water, most rooms had a great view of the ocean. Lots of places to eat - just decent food. Bar in pool was great. Couple of issues - everybody smoked. Everywhere. Even in the pool. Even with the posted no smoking signs. Staff did not enforce. Same with the ‘no chair reservation’ rule. No enforcement. We did manage to find spots in the semi shade everyday though, so that was good. Staff was fantastic, other than the non enforcement of rules. Activity personal we’re enthusiastic, wait staff was mostly terrific and the guys who serve drinks at the pool were nothing short of phenomenal

Overall we had a good time at the Barcelo Huatulco but I have a MAJOR ISSUE with this hotel and many others who blatantly bribe guests with various offers of additional free wi-fi, etc. to post totally unrealistic 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor.We talked to one guest who took free wi-fi in exchange for the positive review and did not seem to worry about how unethical it was! Note: The resort givers you one hour free per day. These are easily spotted all over TripAdvisor. They typically are brief, include the name(s) of an animation crew member (who the resort encourages to obtain positive reviews) and include nothing but glowing comments on the resort. Travellers who are not aware of this practice can be duped into thinking how great the hotel is. TripAdvisor should not publish these reviews and take issue with resorts who follow this practice. It is so widespread now I don't know if anyone can trust reviews.

Everything was great a few minor problems that were corrected as soon as we mention then. Highly recommend. We will return. Very clean, well maintained. Great view Awesome wait staff especially Fernando Worked hard to make sure our stay was top notch

Just returned from our week at the Barcelo. Hotel is nicely laid out, smaller than some of the larger resorts but a nice size to meet people. Ocean front rooms are worth the extra charge! We had no complaints about the food, service was always very good and hotel was always spotless. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. My only complaint is the constant loud music. The entertainment staff should realize that it is not all teenagers around the pool. Some nice Mexican music occasionally would be nice! There is though very good Mexican groups playing at the bar at night which is very nice. Would return?

Enjoyed our return visit to Barcelo Huatulco very much. Both times we paid a little extra for the ‘Premium Level’, which upgrades the stay to include express check-in in the air conditioned Premium lounge (otherwise its a lineup with everyone else that just got off the bus), wifi (otherwise there is a limit of 1hr/day), ability to book a la carte restaurants for dinner well in advance (otherwise there is a lineup starting at 9am to try to book for that day), preferred room locations, a quiet beach lounge chair area (although many folks without the Premium bracelets were using this area), and access to the bartended Premium Lounge with better liquor and a limited wine selection, seating area with big-screen TV, and hot & cold food available throughout the day. The Premium Level isn’t necessary to enjoy this resort, but we appreciated these benefits. The two buffet restaurants offer plenty of choice and are open most of the day. We didn’t try the Japanese a la carte for dinner, but enjoyed the Mexican and Italian restaurants. The service in the Italian was the best and included a musician on the baby grand piano each evening. It’s a cheap 60 peso/10 minute cab ride into town if you want to go in and poke around, shop, or go for an off-resort meal. We were on the hunt for vanilla and found a wide variety of pricing and quality. Ended up paying 180 pesos for 1L of natural vanilla. We looked in the Chedraui (like a Mexican Walmart), but that wasn’t the place to buy vanilla, or booze. Last year we took a catamaran tour which was great and included snorkelling and a stop where a nice beach lunch could be bought... this tour is a pretty good excursion to do in this area. This year we did the city tour, which was OK, but a lot of time spent waiting around for the guides to herd the tour, and scripted stops to flog mescal, woven carpets and jewelry. Would definitely recommend this resort for those looking for a quiet destination. I would not recommend this resort to anyone with mobility limitations. We did see a couple of guests with wheelchairs and walkers, but the resort is not very friendly in this regard.

Although we were quite unhappy that our “free wifi” was only one hour a day, we were more than thrilled to have such great waiters deliver drinks to the beach! Even if we only wanted cups of ice and bottles of water, they never complained and brought us anything we asked for! The grounds were kept very clean and well looked after, the rooms were comfortable, clean and the A/C worked great! (Thank goodness!)

This was our second stay at Huatulco Barcelo, and was very nice. We upgraded to the Premium level, and appreciated access to the private air condition lounge with bartender and TV, and the priority booking of restaurants. Enjoyed food in the buffet and al a cart restaurants. Room was lovely.

I can't say enough good about this resort, and that might be why this is our 3rd stay here. The updated rooms are wonderful, the food always has many variations and the chefs are obviously talented. We will be back as time permits.

Staff was very good. The food and restaurants require more effort, and also the special restaurants aren't open every day. The location is great, rooms were fine. Did not use pools beach was very nice. Few more showers from beach would helpful. May want to add a few more beach chairs and huts. Enjoyed the people and found it to be very safe. Thanks for a relaxing vacation.

Everything was good but did not like the slope on the beach, very hard to walk on and that is what I go for, very uneven ground in the ocean as well, felt unsafe.Long line ups at ala cartel and you could only book for the same day.

Barcelo is a great vacation resort. Second time here and it was great. Staff is amazing. Always willing to accommodate most times. I had asked the front desk if I could have an additional mattress cover or some additional blankets for my bed in order to increase the comfort of the bed. (too hard for me) they said they couldn't help with that. I did find that unusual. This year we felt the food wasn't as tasty as in the past. Beach and pool were terrific. Premium Level was great. Would recommend it. Check in and out was quick. Great Sunwing staff.

Our Barcelo Huatulco experience was disappointing. While this Barcelo is nice it lacks the Barcelo branding we are familiar with. Here are a few examples: 1. Booking All-Inclusive at this destination doesn't really mean "all-inclusive." To really experience "all-inclusive" at this Barcelo means one must upgrade to "PREMIUM." The cost to upgrade to "Premium" is $35.00 US per person per day so $70 per day for a couple times seven days equals $490 US, converted to Canadian dollars roughly $650. For this extra $650 we could have had a King bed in an Oceanview room, premium drinks in our room refrigerator, premium drinks at the bars and wine at dinner. It was disappointing to learn the extra costs for wine at dinner, and that the Corona beer at the bars are reserved for "Premium" guests! 2. You have to stand in line EVERY DAY to book the ala carte restaurants. We were only able to get two ala carte bookings because most of the premium supper times are taken by the "Premium" clients. This means that out of the 18 meals we had at this Barcelo, 16 of them would have to be at the buffets, which gets old after 2/3 days. Booking the ala cartes starts at 9:00 am in the morning and several days we were there at 9:00 am, stood in line for 30-40 minutes and couldn't get a dinner reservation before 8:30/9:00 p.m. 3. The food facilities are only surfaced cleaned. The serving spoons in the buffets are not changed often enough. The sides of the tables feel grimy to the touch, as do the arms on the chairs -- seems these surfaces do not get washed which is very unsanitary (take your own disinfectant wipes!). The Barcelo Huatulco was rated 4.5 Stars. Our ratings: facility 4; systems/processes 2; and buffets 3. While the ala cartes were nice (Italian and Mexican) having to pay extra for wine at an all-inclusive isn't the norm.

Another great time. Sun always shines here. Stunning views from our room to the great food. Premium alcohol. Beautiful beach, terrific snorkeling. recommendations when families book please try and keep families together as it took us two days to resolve this problem. Second tip would be to heat the main dishes at the Italian restaurant properly. Food overall was great their main course needed to be heated thoroughly. Love the Japanese restaurant and seafood

Enjoyed this resort..very clean and friendly. Comfortable beds, food is good. Long lineups to book a la carte. Had the Italian a la carte, it was terrible..was fried mozzarella with tomato sauce, chicken parmesan and dessert..the fried mozzarella was cold and sits on tomato slices (no sauce), the chicken was so tough you couldn't cut it and the dessert was so hard it was like a rock. The food on the buffets is good, lots of variety. The beach is ok..the sand is hard to walk in. The pool is nice, not too crowded. If you want a lounge chair you have to get up real early to put your towels out to save your chair. This resort is fairly quiet..had a good time.

The grounds are very well maintained. The beach was good but hard to walk due to the slope and sand you sink in pretty much up to your ankles. Staff are very good and very clean rooms. Downsides were you need to get up at 5:30 a.m. to put your towel out on a chair or you are not getting a spot. Also, line ups to book an a la carte restaurant are ridiculously long.

Huatulco is a beautiful area, safe with amazing people. The Barcelo is clean with wonderful people who work there. The challenges were lining up every morning at 8 am, as hotel services opened at 9am to book an a la carte dinner for that night. Reservations are only made day of for the a la cartes. This is really a waste of your morning as sometimes the line up ran through the lobby. The second challenge is there are no towel cards. You can take as many towels as you want. So people cover multiple chairs around the pool and beach area with many towels. If you come down at 8 am to find a chair they are all taken with a towel. Sometimes nobody even shows up all day. This is very frustrating and should be monitored by the resort. The food was ok at the resort. Not great but ok. Sometimes items ran out like, butter, cream for coffee, jam and guacamole etc.

The resort was ok .. It didn't really meet our expectations . My wife and I have used the Barcelo hotels for the past 5 years and we both agree that this hotel didn't stand up to the Barcelo standards . It was disappointing to stand in line every morning at 8 am with half the guests to book an a la cart only to find out at 9 am when the desk opened that there were no more spots available for that evening. Apparently from talking to the other guests everyone had the same issues. Usually you could book 3 sittings all at once and have done with it for the week. This is the way we have done it at the other hotels. The other issue we had was trying to find a chair at the pool or beach in the morning .. People were going down at 5 or 6 in the morning and putting towels on 4 to 6 chairs then not showing up till noon to claim them ? Sometimes not till the afternoon when they returned from there day excursions . Apparently from talking to other guests the management was aware of these two important issues and were reluctant to do anything about it . I guess the rooms were full so they were happy !!! With the exception of the wonderful staff we were overall disappointed . We would defiantly return to the area but would choose a different hotel for sure

A great choice for those who like a more moderate sized and intimate resort as opposed to the 1000 room plus mega properties. Standard room was very comfortable and view was great. The buffets and a la carts very well done. Service was very efficient, friendly and personal overall. The beach service really had to work hard... to our great appreciation. Catamaran sailboats are well looked after and I got in lots of sail time. Saw a turtle while sailing and watched the pelicans diving for fish all day. Full moon, total lunar eclipse and even a 6 am minor wake up earthquake that gave us all lots to talk about the next day. Competition for palapa shade and chairs was a bit over the top week 2 when it got busier. This should be fixed along with busier weeks a la cart booking system as mentioned in other reviews. One thing I'd like to mention is the acoustics of the property was very well done! Water fountains, water walls, foliage and thick concrete stucco finish on the building walls, along with the birds, really helped break up the harsh echo you so often get from all the flat surfaces at even the most expensive resorts. This really helped the atmosphere.

Very clean, staff very friendly, bartenders around the pool were very prompt. Nice having the kids pool and the adult pool. Variety of different foods, each night. The el la carts could be managed better.

We would highly recommend staying at the Barcelo Hualtuco. The staff were friendly and efficiant, the room was clean and comfortable and we had a beautieful pool and ocean view. The food was great and the ala carts were also very good. The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. The beach was clean and amazing. We will definitely be back!

Hotel greeting & check in great, fast & efficient. However did not room type we requested, had to go back to reception, just a pain, not what you want to do when you arrive. We did get a room change, thanks to Cosetta. No free internet unless you were a premium guest. Kind of felt second rate, had paid for deluxe, but it meant nothing. Same with drinks. Food at buffet was not hot, lukewarm at best & sometimes cold. We did notice hotter food our last night. Only went to Italian restaurant, had to line up each day to book the restaurants at 9 AM. Unless you premium, you could book anytime. Pool good, lots of chairs & could usually find some shade. Beach, very nice, lots of chairs & palapas. Water very rough, black flag one day. Ok resort, but will not be returning, previous visit we did not feel second rate, but we sure did this time.

Lobby and hotel grounds- the hotel lobby, bar and grounds are very outdated and the only place that’s air conditioned is the premium lounge that you have to pay extra for. Not cool when you’re staying at a 4 star plus hotel. Pools- there is only two pools and one bar. The pools are outdated and have black mold. It’s hard to get a spot. We went for a wedding and there was 46 of us. A few morning I woke up at 6:30am to get some spots and someone took 4 of our chairs. We would only reserve about 12 chairs or so and we all shared. There was no activities in the pool, sometimes music but even that wasn’t good. Rooms- the rooms are nice and spacious, we were on premium level, but some of the guests that weren’t premium had black mold in their shower ( we have pictures) Food- the food was repetitive and always cold. The seafood was always cold which was cooked seafood that was suppose to be hot. All food was cold unless you got it from the grill which wasn’t good. A few morning we had to line up for breakfast to get a table ( 15-20min) The a la cart restaurants hadn’t to be booked and they weren’t all available at all times. We booked Mexican for the second night we were there and when we got there they said we don’t have a reservation. One person in our group went back to the room and got the slips to show them. They did acoimediate us after. Ricardo Cortez The food manager was great and did everything he could to make our stay better. We also went to the Italian which was surprisingly great food. Spanish al la cart was horrible and it wasn’t Spanish food at all. On the wedding day- the bride and groom paid for platinum package but they didn’t get platinum service. The were told the chairs will be beige and they’re were dark brown. The decoration wasn’t what they were showed in pictures. When it was time for them to cut the cake they didn’t have a plate or a fork !! The groom had to put the cake in a napkin and give it to the bride with his hands. Come on now this is common sense stuff. The dinner arrived cold as usual. The appetizer was cold. The main course was over cooked steak I believe it was brisket that was cooked to death. They were promised fillet. It was companied by powdered mashed potatoes not even real mashed potatoes. Bar- one of the 46 guests had 1 year old daughter and asked one of the bar tenders for a bottle of water. This resort should never ever be recommended to anyone having a wedding or anyone under the age of 65. I emailed Kevin from there, because the bride and groom were very upset and he still hasn’t emailed me back. I felt horrible for the bride and groom because the most important day of their life was ruined. They can never get that back. I’m so disappointed that you guys would ever recommend this resort for a wedding. Excertions- we booked the 7 bays on a boat excretion with the hotel not Sunwing ( what a mistake ) They told us there would be washrooms both for men and women. They said it’s a boat for 46ppl. I asked over and over again is it a nice, will it be safe? We had lots of kids in the wedding group and elders. They picked us up at 10am in nice cars and took us to the marina. When we saw the boat we were all shocked. They told us to take life jackets that were scattered all over the boat floor. They were all ripped, none of the buckles worked, and they smelled so horrible. They hadn’t black mold on them as well. The sea was so choppy and the boat wasn’t the right boat for those big waters. Everyone got sick almost 90% were throwing up and sick. We had to cut our trip short and come back. When we got back to the hotel we told them and they said that they don’t understand what black mold is and we got a great deal. 49 ppl and we payed $30 each and $15 for kids. The hotel didn’t care that this was a safety issue with life jackets that are ripped and don’t have buckle that work. Honestly this resort is a 2 start at the most in every way possible. Food, grounds, service. Every single person in our group was unhappy. Most important what was suppose to be the best day in their life for the bride and groom was completely ruined by horrible staff at Barcelo.

Lobby and hotel grounds- the hotel lobby, bar and grounds are very outdated and the only place that’s air conditioned is the premium lounge that you have to pay extra for. Not cool when you’re staying at a 4 star plus hotel. Pools- there is only two pools and one bar. The pools are outdated and have black mold. It’s hard to get a spot. We went for a wedding and there was 46 of us. A few morning I woke up at 6:30am to get some spots and someone took 4 of our chairs. We would only reserve about 12 chairs or so and we all shared. There was no activities in the pool, sometimes music but even that wasn’t good. Rooms- the rooms are nice and spacious, we were on premium level, but some of the guests that weren’t premium had black mold in their shower ( we have pictures) Food- the food was repetitive and always cold. The seafood was always cold which was cooked seafood that was suppose to be hot. All food was cold unless you got it from the grill which wasn’t good. A few morning we had to line up for breakfast to get a table ( 15-20min) The a la cart restaurants hadn’t to be booked and they weren’t all available at all times. We booked Mexican for the second night we were there and when we got there they said we don’t have a reservation. One person in our group went back to the room and got the slips to show them. They did acoimediate us after. Ricardo Cortez The food manager was great and did everything he could to make our stay better. We also went to the Italian which was surprisingly great food. Spanish al la cart was horrible and it wasn’t Spanish food at all. On the wedding day- the bride and groom paid for platinum package but they didn’t get platinum service. The were told the chairs will be beige and they’re were dark brown. The decoration wasn’t what they were showed in pictures. When it was time for them to cut the cake they didn’t have a plate or a fork !! The groom had to put the cake in a napkin and give it to the bride with his hands. Come on now this is common sense stuff. The dinner arrived cold as usual. The appetizer was cold. The main course was over cooked steak I believe it was brisket that was cooked to death. They were promised fillet. It was companied by powdered mashed potatoes not even real mashed potatoes. Well to be quite honest, I have visited huatulco many times over the last decade. But have always stayed at dreams. This was the first time at the barcelo, on recommendation of our travel agent. Now any other time, we would have been a little disappointed. Unfortunately this was our destination wedding. With a group of 29 that booked with Kevin and another 20 who had come from over seas just to be there for us. Now considering the amount of people in our group and the amount of money that was made from our group. I expected to be treated a lot nicer than we had. And by nicer I mean I felt like a second class citizen. Myself and all of my guests noticed as well. We will all be writing a scathing review on our own separate blogs about our experiences. We were not impressed at all. The only two respectful people that tried to be a little more accommodating was the food and hospitality manager and our wedding coordinator. But prior to having had an almost all out brawl in one of the a la cartes because there was a system error while booking, when half of our group was asked to leave until we produced our receipts for the booking that they didn’t seem to have. No one even asked how we’re were. Especially since the day of our arrival we were stranded on the highway on a sunwing bus for almost 3 hours while there was a protest happening. Now I understand that may be out of sunwings control but what was not, was to be prepared. So after 3 hours all the passengers had to disembark and walk a km and a half with luggage in hand through protestors over obstacles to another bus. Now I could go on and on but the more I think about the angrier I become. So I will leave with this, thank you so much for recommending this place, I hope you hit quota in sales and just to let you know we have 3 more weddings and a yearly family trip that will have approximately the same amount of people per year. And that business we will be taking elsewhere. And it’s a shame because we have been going with trip central for years.

Though rooms were clean and resort grounds well kept, food was just average. Most hot dishes were overcooked and way too salty. I have had much better quality at other 4.5 star all-inclusive resorts in Mexico in terms of food, entertainment and service. This resort isn't truly all-inclusive as you need to pay extra to upgrade (to become a "gold" member) for WIFI or room service food which is ridiculous. Also booking dinner at "better" restaurants in advance is only permitted for gold members. I would rate this resort a 2.5 or 3 at best which is generous.

The resort is a small resort which was fine for us but if you want a large resort with lots of activities this is not the resort for you. The location is amazing and the weather was unbelievable with no rain for the whole vacation but very hot. The resort was super clean with the staff always cleaning or fixing something to maintain the surroundings. The food was ok but nothing spectacular. Buffets were basically the same thing every day and the a la cart restaurants were good if you could get in. One HUGE CON is you have to line up every morning for 9am to reserve an a la cart restaurant for that day only and if you are not at the front of the line you probably won't get one. There are 4 restaurants and they would rotate to only have 2-3 open each night. If you signed up for premium you could book your week all at once. Which we did try to do but when we arrived they wanted $290 US extra for premium. The person beside me was offered $245 which I said we wanted too. He went for approval and came back saying the manager said its now $300. We told them forget it and then the next day which is one day less when reserving a restaurant she tried to up grade us and wanted $310. For such a large chain I was disgusted how this was handled. I work in the sales industry and if I did this to my customers I wouldn't have any. The staff were very friendly and always helpful. Went to town one afternoon which is very safe. The beach is nice but is not flat and has a huge incline which makes very hard to walk. The ocean was usually rough so if you are a ocean person which we weren't, it would not the best for swimming.

The hotel itself is well maintained and well equipped, very clean. The maids, wait staff, front desk, bartenders, everyone, were very pleasant and professional. On the down side, the Adults Only Pool ( teenagers to adults ), seemed to be a handful for Lifeguards and Security to enforce these Rules. Seemed to be less A la' Carte this year, if you wanted it one must get up early to get a reservation, even then if you could get one was questionable, otherwise it was all buffet. All in all, it was relaxing and great weather, good time. Thnxs Barcelo!

Second time to this resort. Had a great Time. Staff excellent. Rooms very nice and very comfy beds. Grounds and buildings well maintained and clean. Restaurants could be a little better - very slow service. Spanish and Italian excellent. Everyone advised against the Japanese, so didn't try it but overall experience was good - will definitely be back!

We were a group of 28 people (15 kids) and we ALL had a fabulous time at the Barcelo Huatulco!! Staff & service exceeded our expectations!.. Great entertainment in the evening, rooms were updated and very clean, food was great, beach was gorgeous and the weather was outstanding!! Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend this resort to families big or small! Thank you to Barcelo Huatulco & Tripcentral for a perfect vacation! Tracy

My first thought was how clean and well kept the grounds are. Washrooms were spotless, the public area was super clean. The buffet was well set up and always clean, My room was beautiful, beds were so comfortable, lots of room, washrooms were clean , spacious, and well lit. Air conditioning was very good. I haven't got one negative thing to say about the Barcelo. I will be back.

This hotel is awesome!! Absolutely nothing to complain about! Fernando was our bar waiter and was amazing worked tirelessly. Location is perfect. Very clean. All the restaurants were great. Might have over eaten just a bit.

Overall I would rate the experience a 9 out of ten and the only reason for not getting a 10 out of 10 is due to the fact that the exclusive or alacart restaurants were not that good. Service again excellent but the food quality was disappointing. We went to the Mexican and Japanese restaurants and it was not good at all which doesn't make any sense. We also went to the Italian which was very good. This then made our decision to venture out into town for dinners which were awesome. The people are very friendly and we felt very safe.

The Barceló Huatulco was a great resort that 32 of our family travelled to recently. The staff is extremely friendly, providing great service at all times. The swimming pools are perfect, as they have an adults pool, a middle pool for teens, and a kids pool with waterslides. The food was great at the breakfast and lunch buffets. Our room was an Oceanview which was the best view we have ever had on any of our vacations. My wife took part in the Garra Rufa fish treatment at the outdoor spa and enjoyed it a lot! Albino and Martha were very nice and provided us with lots of additional information about Huatulco and the resort/surroundings. I would definitely return to this resort.

Barcelo is a great resort. Spacious clean modern rooms. Beautiful views from upper floor rooms and grounds. Beach and pools were fantastic for all ages. Had a lovely family vacation. incredible weather and hospitality in local towns.

This was an amazing vacation! We had amazing service in this beautiful resort. Although not Sunwings fault for the delay on the trip home- super annoying and made for a long day. They did a great job with our restlessness :). Super customer service. All in all would highly recommend.

Couldn’t say enough wonderful things about this resort and of course the area of Huatulco is one of the nicest areas we have been too in Mexico. Food was fantastic, many choices, buffet changed up every night. Oscar our pool drinks guy was the best! Made sure we were never thirsty. Resort was perfect size, rooms were nice and clean. Beach was beautiful, a bit of an undertow to be careful with young kids. Lots of activities for young and old. Very close to downtown and safe. Would return to this hotel in a heartbeat. On that note, there were many people at this hotel who had been there 3-4 times already, which speaks volumes. The only issue was the no free wifi anywhere in the resort, seems very odd. But we will return for sure!!!

This is a great hotel resort. Staff were wonderful and caring. Made sure all our needs were looked after. Unfortunately there was never enough beach loungers with shade. Seems one would have to get up at 6am and head to the beach in order to secure a shady area. Even placing portable Beach Umbrellas would work. Pool was very nice. We enjoyed the smaller resort atmosphere. Overall, great vacation.

Set your alarm to watch the amazing sun rise. Down to grab your towel to claim your spot in an already sea of cranberry towels. Grab a cafe and sweet in lobby. Don't forget your book as you join the crowd forming at guest services to make dinner reservations. Be patient amigos the bar opens at 10. These are the games they don't tell you about. Not FUN. If you can fix these issues I will definitely be back

Hotel is small and a little dated but very clean. Staff are very friendly. Location is beautiful. The resort is very quiet with few activities but relaxing. Food was good and the drinks were great. Service on the beach and around the pool was fast and frequent. For the price point, it is definitely the best bang for the buck.

Resort was great overall - Excellent service. - very well maintained, although slightly dated. - great kids program - food was really good - weather is perfect in Jan - would prefer over dreams for those with young kids (we visited dreams for a day) - close to the airport

Returned Tuesday April 25th from a relaxing sun filled week in Huatulco Mexico at the Barcelo Huatulco. Wonderful service, extremely clean resort and very helpful staff in all aspects. Great food at all restaurants though the Mexican restaurant was more authentic Mexican food than we expected, the Spanish and Italian restaurants were very good, both evenings we visited. True the beach is steep and the situation on the bay can result in some surprising wave activity but a great place for relaxing. We had an upper level premium room that provided wonderful Ocean views. Again we wish to extend a very sincere thank you to Robyn Murray at Tripcentral for her efforts in making every aspect of our vacation memorable.

Enjoyed the week tremendously. Staff, food, services, entertainment, hotel facilities all are top notch. Area needs improvement is check-in. Not enough personnel to handle a large group of guests. Internet access should be available in all buildings not just in the lobby.

We had a great time at this resort. It was great for families with small children. Lots of activities for the kids and a great kids pool. Small resort, so easy to get around. Being runners my husband enjoyed the gym and I ran on the beach. The beach isn't super long but a good challenge to run. The kids loved the waves in the ocean. I would recommend bringing life jackets.

Was not impressed with the no name brand alcohol and wine. Mixed drinks tasted like non-alcoholic. Wine at the a la cart restaurants was much better, but found the time allocated for eating was too rushed. Food was amazing.

We had a nice, clean room with an ocean view. Loved that we could make reservations for all of the restaurants at the same time as check in. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We really enjoyed the adult pool.

Beautiful small resort has everything you could ask for. Staff really makes a huge effort to please. Nightly entertainment was very good and always different. Make your purchases from the local shops at there is very little at the airport duty free.

March 2017 was our 3rd visit to the Barcelo in Huatulco. On each return to this paradise, we have been accompanied by a greater number of friends & family. The superlative weather & location are matched by incredible staff, dining and recreational opportunities. The ambiance created through the warmth, integrity and industrious nature of the Mexican people is THE BEST.

Resort is older but refurbished and very clean. Service was excellent. Food was very good. Great location, close to the airport, town and right on a great beach. Lots of beach activities. We enjoyed our vacation here and would return.

My husband and I traveled with our 4 month old and we were very happy with this resort. The grounds were kept very clean and tidy - we constantly saw staff sweeping, trimming bushes, and doing maintenance. One evening after dinner several staff members were hand washing all of the loungers around the pools. The pools - adult only and children's - were both kept clean. The food was way better than I've experienced at any resort. There are 4 a la carte options - Mexican, Spanish, Italian, and Japanese. There are no limits to the number of a la carte reservations you can make. We tried all of them and really enjoyed them all. The japanese (sushi) was really great and is a tiny place that won't take reservations and is first come first serve. There are two buffet options for breakfast and lunch and then one buffet option for dinner each night. Loads of options for everyone. I'm a vegetarian and found the buffets to be heavily stocked with meat but still found plenty of yummy options for myself. We didn't get in to the theatre for any of the shows that were put on each night because we had the baby with us (and most of our dinners were later) but there was also musical entertainment each evening outside in the pool/courtyard area. By the pool during the day they had lots of organized water sports/games going on. There also seemed to be lots of things for kids like face painting, the kids club, water slides, etc. There wasn't any rainy days so we didn't spend much time inside but there is also a games room with board games, pool table, ping pong, etc. The majority of the staff was really great but there were some that weren't as friendly and gave slower service. It was really either hit or miss and nothing in between. 90% of staff were amazing so it's too bad there was a handful that weren't. Our room was fine - comfortable clean beds, balcony overlooking the pool/beach, fridge stocked daily (we left a tip for the individual who filled our fridge each day with a note of what we wanted in our fridge ie. bottled water, beer, chips, etc), we were given a pack n play for our baby to sleep in, bathroom was fine. We did see some teeny tiny little bugs in the room either crawling on the bathroom wall or on the dresser for instance. Maybe only a handful and they seemed harmless but worth mentioning. We left a tip for the maid as well each day but some days our room was cleaned impeccably and we had towels and flowers shaped liked an animal left in the room and other days it was as if they half cleaned the room then just left without giving us fresh towels or finishing the cleaning job. So again, hit or miss. Overall I'd give the resort an 8 out of 10 and would recommend to others. My family definitely plans to return to Barcelo Huatulco and would likely book 2 weeks next time because 1 week was just to short!

We just arrived home on Feb 21st from a week long stay at Barcelona beach Huatulco. We travelled with our 2 children ages 5 & 7. We upgraded to premium which was worth it we just wish it was included but offered a beautiful ocean view and no reservations needed for the a la carte restaurants and premium drinks. We also had beach gifts on arrival for the kids and sparkling wine in the room and many more options. We felt extremely safe and loved the very authentic experience. The resort was small but perfect for families. Weather was HOT and consistent every single day. You need a hat everyday. Bring your Bubbas as your drinks will get warm fast. Service was amazing and the staff were truly exceptional and so attentive to us..I cannot say a bad thing. Orlando on the beach and his two boys treated us so well on our boat tour...highly recommend it. Only thing I would caution is the beach tide changes and it can have a dangerous undertow..be careful. We can't wait to return.

The resort as well as the grounds are very well maintained. The employees do a fantastic job and work extremely hard to ensure everything is in pristine condition. Staff are courteous, friendly and bend over backwards for their guests.

We loved everything about this resort! First the people are such wonderful people to talk to and they are so very helpful! They don't expect anything from you, which makes you want leave tips! Beautiful grounds and very clean place in every area! My only complaint would be not enough bottle water available for us! We will definitely go back! Great job everyone!

We felt our two week stay was amazing. The staff was exceptional in every department. Management was also over looking the departments to make sure top quality service was provided. The food was very good. The rooms great but a/c never went below 21.5c. The beach clean and ocean awesome. The adult pool was great when guests followed the rules about not letting kids play in area. The life guards tried there best to control it. More signs needed around pool stating No Kids. One should be placed at shallow end off pool where you walk into pool. This would help as the one on island of brush is hard to see, obviously from certain angles. Ricardo the manager we saw the most was wonderful. The only other improvement would be to have specific smoking areas by the pool. For those of us with health issues it would be a great comfort to know that smoking is in specific areas so we could avoid them. Free internet at resort would be an added bonus as all restaurants across the street provide this service. For as much as we pay for this resort it should be included in our package. The weather was unbeatable. Every day was sunny and hot. We loved our two holiday and will be back. The restaurants across the street had amazing food and great service. A nice break from the resort.

The resort is lower end to what we are used to, but even so, they do it very well. The location is great. The weather can't be beat. There is ample shade at pool. There is a great selection of foods. Sometimes a little cold. It would be nice if they had more than one grill station in the main buffet. This is a drawback to a small resort. The rooms were nice. Shower only in room. No tub. The room was clean and always made up nicely. It is an idyllic spot. The market vendors are kind and not aggressive. You will feel safe in most spots. There is a homey, relaxing energy to the space. There are a number of excursions you can take and it is easy to hire a private boat off the beach. All in all it was very enjoyable and we will likely go back.

Had booked a room with a king bed and a view. What we got was a ground floor with double beds. When asked to upgrade we were told that it would cost $60.00 U.S per night. The staff was great, hotel itself was fairly small, the beach was good and the weather was also great. Don't know if I would go back just for the fact that when booking we didn't get what we expected.

We spent a week at the Barcelo Huatulco (13-20 Dec. 2016) just before prices rose for Christmas. Overall we very much liked the resort: for everything but the food I’d rate it as a 4.5 star; for regular eaters I’d rate it as maybe 4 stars and, for those with special diets (e.g. vegetarians), a 2 to at most a 3 star. Things we liked. Resort. Like most resorts in the area, this one was built maybe 30+ years back and so it is not the most modern. That said, it is compact, well designed, easy to use, with nice gardens and large palm trees, and the views over the beach and ocean from the lobby and many rooms are beautiful. There are two adjacent pools – one for children and the other (with a bar) for adults. Water levels are never deep – this is not a place to do laps. There is a well equipped gym, tennis courts, a mini-golf area, a games room (pool and ping pong tables…) and I believe that the use of all including equipment (not verified for tennis rackets) is free. There is the main buffet and four restaurants which are not always open every night (Italian, Spanish, Mexican and a small sushi restaurant that did not require reservations). There are a lot of places to lay down around the pool and overlooking the ocean but, despite that, at the end of our stay just before Christmas the idiotic towel game – people getting up at 7AM to “reserve” chairs - was in full swing. Beach The beach is one of the largest in the area. Facing the beach, at the far left past Dreams, is an area where there are many fish – take some bread to feed them. The beach goes down fast to the water and then beyond – the water gets deep fast. When we were there waves were moderate, other beaches in the area have much more violent surf (Chahue) or less so (Santa Cruz and Entrega), but you will need to take taxis to go there. The hotel has some equipment for water sports (small sail catamarans, plastic kayaks…) that they can show you how to use, and water skidoos you can rent for a I think $60US per half hour. Entertainment Every evening there is music in the lobby bar (pretty good musicians and singers), followed by a show in the theater (varied and better than most I’ve seen in AI resorts), and mostly Mexican dance music starting around 11PM or so in the bar across from the Japanese Sushi restaurant. Clients were over half Mexican, with a lot of Canadians, a few Americans and a handful of other nationalities. Rooms have been recently renovated and are nice. If you pay considerably more for premium status, you get an ocean front room (plus better food and drinks); otherwise you get an ocean view or garden view room (like us). Higher rooms give better views (rooms on the inside of the U shaped buildings have views of the pool area and sea). The beach and resort face almost directly south. Rooms with odd numbers give you better sunrise views while those with even numbers have the afternoon sun. Staff As is often the case in Huatulco, the local staff are wonderful. A suggestion to guests: tip the staff well – they do their jobs very well and their salaries are not high; the area is not well-off. Excursions We went twice to the small town of la Crucecita (fixed price taxi 43 pesos) – a pleasant place, with good jewelry and clothes shops including one behind weaves being used to make local tablecloths. They have ice cream at one corner of the zocalo (central square) – you choose the ingredients that are combined and then “fried” in an extremely cold pan in front of you – neat. Two places to hang out for snacks, pizzas and drinks are on the second floors overlooking the square – one above the ice cream place (only open in the evening) and the other diagonally across the square (open all day long). Prices are good and they are great places for people watching. Santa Cruz (fixed price taxi 43 pesos) is a smaller town with a marina, with a real nice small organic open market the 1st and 3rd Saturday mornings of every month. There is a fair sized tourist souvenir area (hats, tee-shirts, etc.) and elsewhere some good stores and restaurants (including a few right along the waterfront where you can eat guacamole and have a margarita with your feet in the sand). One day we took a taxi outside of our hotel (excellent safe driver who speaks very good English and knows the area very well – Fernando, taxi 045, phone 958-109-5001 – spent 1200 pesos for the day plus a tip of 150 and we bought him lunch too) to travel first to the Santa Cruz organic market, and then onto the turtle center in Mazunte (a 75 minute drive up the coast), and the lagoons in Ventanilla (huge iguana, crocodiles…), and finally to drive through other nearby beach towns on the way back. It was an excellent day and cost less than half that of a regular tour for the four of us. Another half day we went snorkeling with Hurricane Divers (located in Santa Cruz) – saw some fantastic fish and paid somewhat less for the experience than a tour bought in the hotel. Worth the experience. Now the less good – the food. The food was of variable quality, and we most liked breakfasts (and the omelette ladies who often also could cook small quesadillas with added mushrooms…). Loads of fruit, juices and breakfast food. Coffee was pretty good (and we are picky). For lunch (buffets) and dinner in the main buffet, there was an overwhelming number of choices of generally low-quality meats (pork slices, fish fingers, hamburgers…). There was a good number of salads, a few vegetable side dishes, and some good natural fruit drinks too. But for people wanting to avoid eating much meat, other options were often very scarce. We only tried the Italian and Mexican restaurants. The Italian one was quite good but had a pretty limited menu (as they were often out of some items, like green salad) but their entrées (hors d’oeuvres, salads…) were pretty tasty and well presented, as was the pasta. The pizzas, however, were lousy. It had the best reputation of all a la carte restaurants and from our experience we agree. That restaurant is located outside beside the pools, and so they allow men to wear shorts and sandals – in the other a la carte restaurants you need long pants and shoes. The Mexican restaurant was hit-or-miss – excellent poblano soup, just acceptable mushroom soup, quite good cheese chili rellenos (a special order), just alright tlayudas, etc. Service (as always) however was excellent. There were vegetarians in our group and, despite really liking the resort, their problems were such that we may not return. A resort that offers maybe 40 meat and seafood main dinner dishes in the buffets can make an effort to have a couple main dish veggie options for those who prefer to eat otherwise. They often use chicken stock in soups and rice, lard in beans… and this is not marked, making it real hard to know what a vegetarian can eat. This was a problem even in the a la carte restaurants, with the exception of the very good Italian one. Luckily for us there was no limit on the number of times we could eat there – we ate dinner there 4 nights out of 7. (That said, this is our second trip to the Huatulco area and our general impression is that, unlike some other resort destinations, most restaurants and resorts in Huatulco make little effort to accommodate vegetarians...) Finally, we were drawn to this resort in part because of the advertised $500 bonus coupons being offered. These were moderate reductions for expensive room upgrades and for spa treatments – things we never used. So don’t count on these being all that useful when you make your resort choices…

This place is a hidden secret. Staff very friendly from housekeeping to reception and everyone in between. Rooms alway clean and bar fridge always full. Beach very clean (no seaweed ) . Went to buffet and restaurants both had very good choices and tasty food.

The hotel was very nice, close to local shops and modern coffee shop (Ice Caps!) ALL staff were friendly and nice, saying hola to you and meaning it. 4 a la carte restaurants plus a buffet with a different themed night of dining were great and offered numerous options from the feint of heart to the adventurous.

We loved the room,always clean Thought the bottle of Champagne was a great touch. Great view, Food was really good. Staff was great. Pool was always really busy and loud. Could have used more staff in lobby bar in the evening.

Hotel was very nice, food was excellent. All staff were always smiling and worked very hard to please. House keeping staff kept the room very clean and came in at night and turned down our sheets and left chocolates on our beds. Nice touch!

Older, smaller hotel that makes a big effort too make it's guest feel welcome. Weather was nice and hot. 2 good days on the beach. Drop off is very steep into the ocean. Would stay in the pools if you aren't a strong swimmer.

Hotel Just a nice size, not too big. Noticed Barcelo a great Family Resort Rooms All updated and very clean. Modern bathrooms, toiletries & hairdryers available along with ironing boards and irons. Stocked bar fridges in room with water, soft drinks and beer and peanuts. Beds usually 2 queens in a room and very comfortable!! Staff Excellent! Go out of their way to please you. Ask and you will receive! Hotel Doctor Excellent. Food 3 restaurants for dinner Mexican, Spanish & Italian. Plus the buffet for all meals. Hats off to Edgar for helping our daughter with her gluten free allergy made special food for her!! Great selection of food. Hot dogs, hamburgers & ice cream cones for the kids. Activities & Money Kayaking, catamaran sailing and sea doo's free of charge. Excursions available at a price or take a cab into town. 40 peco's for 4 of us to share a cab. $1 U.S. = 15 peco's I coke = 8 peco's. Very safe to take a cab and walk around town. Pool bar, adult pool and children's pool. Kept ver clean. Beach, steps away from hotel on site. Long beautiful beach. Just watch for under tow. You can't beat this place for the money! Great staff great weather! Hats off to Barcelo!!

Very clean. Staff was amazing, Friendly, looked after your every need. Nice beach, the water was a little rough. They say this is the safest area in Mexico and I believe that. Food was better than some places I've been to.

The while place was perfect .. be to a ton of places loved it. Will go back again and again. Family had a ball. Kids live the pool food and every bit . Wife and me couldn.t have been happier . And the area eas all you could ask for . Wow wow wow

We had a very relaxing time at the Barcelo Huatulco. The rooms, pool area, beach, everything was super clean, and staff was very friendly. The evening shows were totally entertaining. We tried 3 of the 4 restaurants and can highly recommend 2 of them.

The resort was great. Service was excellent. Great restaurant choices. Buffet could get better. Activities were well coordinated. Convenient location to the airport and the city. Without hesitation, I can recommend this resort.

IT IS LIKE A NEW MERCEDES WITH A 11 hp BRIGS LAWNMOWER ENGINE- ALL SHOW NO GO. FOOD POISONING, TOO MUCH HEAT, NO WHERE COOL TO SIT AND HAVE A BEER. DRY PATH FROM THE POOL BAR TO THE WASHROOM, COMBATIVE STAFF AT THE DESK, ETC.

Almost completed their major renovations which have totally rejuvenated the resort. Great beach, probably best on the bay, and beautiful warm and clear water. They need to get some extra training for their bartenders. Friendly staff and well maintained room - best water pressure in shower of any previous Mexican/Caribbean trip. All things being equal, we would definitely return to this hotel.

Room clean & I believe newly updated. Food was good, plenty of variety. Al carte also were good. Grounds were clean. The pool was not up to our standard. The 'adult only', we went swimming in only once. The beach has coarse golden sand. The red flag was up every day we were there. Dangerous surf with undertow for both adults & especially children. We did have fun on the beach & in the water. I did like that every thing was so close. It is a favourite resort for the Mexican people, so it became very busy & noisy with families (lots of children). The music was played too loud at poolside. My friends & I will pick a adults only resort next time. I would like to mention that the Sunwing reps. we're very friendly & helpful.

Grounds and rooms are well kept.our room was cleaned in the morning and towels replaced every night and bed turned This Hotel has it good points. easy access to beach and pool. ala carte restaurants are very good. buffet is also good food for every ones taste.The sushi is surprisingly very goodf.

The resort, the staff and the the beach were all amazing! Very quiet, relaxing and truly authentically Mexican. Our room was clean, spacious and had a resort/ocean view. The staff were friendly, attentive and very efficient. The food was fantastic with a very generous variety and gourmet tasty. We are still working off the extra pounds we put on while in Huatulco!The day trip to Santa Cruz and The Magic Emerald Falls were definite highlights of the trip. It was an honour to travel to the Mountains and experience the true undisturbed beauty of the countryside. The village people were proud and welcoming to allow us to discover the paradise they live in and work so hard to sustain. The City of Santa Cruz is breathtaking. We felt very safe and welcomed as we walked about this picturesque wonderland. The shops and market were wonderful places to gather some souvenirs or handmade products or jewelry. The restaurants and bars were unique and inviting. The park square in the centre of the city was well groomed and a peaceful spot to reflect on the lovely vacation spot of Huatulco,Mexico! Our trip to the Barcelo Huatulco was wonderful and it was a pleasure to be able to share this piece of paradise with the proud, friendly and welcoming Mexican people of Huatulco. We will definitely return to the Barcelo Resort and anticipate discovering many more memories in this Piece of Paradise ,Huatulco

We went for a week March 3-10, and we really enjoyed it. One of my favorite things was being able to hear the waves crashing at night while drifting off to sleep. I loved the size of the resort, very intimate.

We stayed one week from March10-17/2015 at the Barceló Beach Resort Huatulco. Have absolutely no complaints. Food was awesome...Beach fantastic...Weather out of this world. Only fault was we were in a room that was unrenevated and in obvious need of repair. We had no air conditioning for 2 days which made sleeping very uncomfortable. However the management was very accommodating and upgraded us to a newly renovated room with working air conditioner at no extra charge and because of this great service would be sure to return if we were given an upgraded room. The animation team we phenominal and keep our kids entertained. May just plan to return next winter!

Pros: good hotel, great location, good rooms, good food, good facilities. Cons: kids club not active when supposed to, not good entertainment for kids in the evening, kids pool slides close 6 pm. Sometimes only one of the two buffet restaurants is open for dinner. Waiters are not really taking care of clients so they deserve a tip.

Everything about this resort was perfect! The hotel was beautiful and extremely clean. We did not see any type of insect nor any speck of dust during our stay. The food was delicious and had a different variety every day with so much to choose from. The staff was friendly. The beach was gorgeous. Perfect perfect perfect! Stay here if you want a great vacation !

We did get a fantastic all inclusive deal ($957) so I think it was great value for sure. We have been here about 5 yrs before. The first time we did get a renovated room which was very nice. This time we did not so the bathrooms are very tired and in need however we had a gorgeous view out to the pool, and you can't beat the oceanfront set up here. The resort is a more traditional Mexican style and not too big. Lots to see and do. Because of the age, I'd say accomodation is more a 3.5 star with a 4 star food and beveridge. 5 star beach! Great people. The lobby entertainment featured a 5 pc band and two fantastic lead singers. If they had a chance they would beat anyone on "The Voice" Extremely talented. Thank-you to our extraordinary fishing guide Tony Lopez Lopez who makes amazing margaritas, took us to all the spots that the hotel tours do not and gave us a private tour! Ask for him as he really made the day fun and is a true professional. ( new boats and safe) He also made our Christmas very merry by helping us facilitate toys to one of the poorest of the neighbourhoods AND helped us rescue two cats that were in very poor health as he hooked them up to a local vet for treatment and placement. I felt due to the renovations needed, age and quality of drinks that it is all around about a 3.9 star experience however given the price we paid we were very happy! GREAT VALUE!

Really enjoyed the fact this resort is not huge. Design lay out is very good , so walking distances to the beach, dining,and pool are not more than a couple of minutes. Nice balcony size for the morning coffee and sunrise, while serenaded by ocean waves and the birds around the pool area . Really enjoyed watching the kiddies pool area with the fountain and water slides. Perfect for a grand kid holiday. Fishing and snorkling trips are waiting at the beach. Last day we were given a Sunwing farewell barbecue... how cool is that.!!

The hotel was compact (great for mobility challanged), absolutely beautiful, clean, and welcoming. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was great, particularily in the speciality restaurants. Area appeared safe, shops in hotel and across the road.

The Barcelo was your average all-inclusive but the weather and the people are what you come for. The hotel is showing its age but if you want something newer book a club room as they have upgraded bathrooms. The food was good, lots of selection, and had no problems booking the al la cartes. The animation team wasn't as "active" as you see in most resorts but still a lot of fun. I would not recommend the show (tried 2) and just enjoyed playing cards and listening to the small band in the hotel bar. If you are looking for a party hotel, this is not for you. If you are looking for a laid back, quiet but fun place to enjoy the sun -- the Barcelo is for you.

Rooms are dated but clean and comfortable. Grounds are well kept. Food is good. Staff friendly. Beach is clean & nice but watch the undertow with small kids or non-swimmers. Close to fantastic small town for safe real Mexican experience. Book boat tours on beach for whale watching, fishing, turtle spotting, snorkelling all in one.
