The food was absolutely incredible and better than I expected and I really enjoyed my time. It was super relaxing, and the staff are so kind. We had a couple issues with our phone for room service, but we just used our personal phones.

This resort definitely needs some upkeep, especially in relation to air conditioning in the rooms. The first room we had had no air flow and was like sleeping in a sauna. Luckily we did manage to get moved the next day to a room with some working air conditioning. Furniture in a lot of venues needs to be replaced. Especially in Allegre Bar and couches in Reception. They are so old the padding is gone. Also, there are no working whirlpools. The groundskeepers also need to respect the guest at this property. We had just been swimming in one of the relaxation pools and were relaxing on a lounger when a groundskeeper came in, walked in front of us and started chopping down palm fronds near us and then tossing them in the pool making it so we couldn't swim there any longer. We felt uncomfortable so got up and went elsewhere. On the positive side, the hotel staff could not do enough for you to try and make your stay comfortable. Big shout out to Arnandan and Cynthia, the two concierges who went above and beyond to ensure myself and 82 year old mother got a working air con room and provided a large stand fan. Also, shout out to Sarahi, our new concierge, who had our noisy ceiling fan fixed within minutes, arranged for some pesos to be changed into smaller bills, and provided us with her umbrella when we didn't have one in our room. A big plus was the food. It was exceptional!!. Oh. I forgot to mention Wilson in Ventanas. He was the best server!. So sweet, kind, funny and respectful! I definitely didn't go hungry and always found something yummy to eat!! The pools were plentiful and so warm and inviting with clear blue water. We never had a problem with getting a pool chair when we went for breakfast at 7 30. Probably because it is low season.

We both got sick from the food and spent half of our vacation inside taking care of each other. The buffets were full of recycled proteins that looked gross. The service wasn't great. A waiter gave my wife something she was allergic to and she ate it. The host asked us about allergies and we let them know about 15 minutes before that happened. Our water and coffee in our room was not replenished every day. The restraunt food was gross and there weren't many gluten friendly options at all. We spend a lot of money eating at restaurants in town because we lost confidence in the food service. Not a 5 star experience.

The room was very clean and comfortable. The bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve slept on at an all inclusive. While some of the areas may seem dated compared to newer modern hotels, it’s in great condition and so well maintained. Food was fantastic and service was hospitable and friendly. The pools were great as the two by the beach had excellent views of the beach and were practically on the beach. My preference was the infinity pool that was not heated. It was fresh and cool! The other pool was heated and perfect when that was needed. The beach is stunning! The teams work diligently to remove seaweed and we were able to swim in the ocean. There is little to no night life at this hotel but this was perfect for us. Overall, I’d stay again and would recommend!

The check in was quick and personalized but our room was not quite ready/available even if it was about 2pm in the afternoon. After a quick bite by the beach where the main breakfast/lunch is held, you notice right away that this is going to be fun to eat here every day! The view of the white sandy beach and turquoise water is just amazing. Finally around 3h30, still no room, this is quick fixed fixed and go to the room. The accomodation is nice although it does feel a little dated it was very comfortable and spacious. The balcony facing the back alley and the Resort next door is definately not what I was looking for to relax after a day at the beach. Tried to get another room with a better view but our concierge (Carlos) was not able to work this out so we stayed it our allocated room for our 2-week stay. The grounds are well manicured with something like 4 pools and rivers throughout, very nice. The main pools are located close to the main restaurant and the beach where it is very hard to find a lounger past 9am. Although there is a sign that is very clear about not being able to through your stuff at 5am and show up at 2 in the afternoon (a little sarcastic here but you get it right?) People still do it because this rule is absolutely not inforced, so why bother? Anyways, further to this, quite a few loungers were reserved every day (with signs from the Resort no less). Good thing I would rather be at the beach where there were enough loungers there even if you show up at 10am after breakfast. The best part here was those mini tent-like sun shades that you could pull over the loungers to hide from the scorching sun. Well done. We also liked the fact that there a quite a few palm trees on the beach to get some shade as the day progresses. Meals: All breakfast can be taken at the main restaurant for buffet or at the Spices restaurant (above the main one) where things are "a la carte". Lunch can be done at both, at the main restaurant, you can select either the buffet or "a la carte" or a combination of both. Suppers have to be via a reservation with the help of your Building Concierge. This was an easy process although you can't always pick your prefered timing (from 18h00 to 22h00), for us, supper at 9pm is a little late! 6 Restaurant of various food selection and dress code. 2 of them requires gentlemen to wear long pants, collared shirt/Polo shirt and closed shoes, the others will accept shorts and shirt There is some entertainment during the day, mainly at the main pools, and in the evening at the main bar but don't expect a grandiose affaire! Unless you attend the Mexican show, held every Saturday evening. Because we arrived on a Saturday, we could not go that night andhad to settle for the following Saturday, because we were there for 2 weeks. Had we been there only for 7 days, we would have missed this. It is some kind of dinner and show and it was quite enjoyable. For the return, there are no Travel Representatives or Travel Binders to help you navigate the transport/pick-up time to the Airport, make sure you get this from your travel agent ahead of time as missing/no pick up of transport can get quite expensive by taxi for the 1 hour ride to Cancun. All in all, we really enjoyed this relaxing vacation and would recommend but if you are looking for action and games, this may not be the best place for you.

The Royal Hideaway was probably the most beautiful resort we have ever been to. The grounds were meticulously cared for. The rooms were beautiful. We had three in our room and had lots of space with the bedroom a dressing room and the bathroom. We were on the ground floor and had a lovely patio which we used quite often. The resort was a nice size to get around. The two main pools are not that big but did the trick. There is one cool pool and one warm pool. However, we could not resist being on the most beautiful beach on the Yucatan. It was spectacular!! Long walks in the morning were great. The hotel did a really good job picking up the sargasim in the mornings. Now the food. Not good. Very small buffet that after 10 days got very boring. The restaurant reservation system is a nightmare!! Had a very hard time getting reservations before 9 pm until we got the manager involved. We can only think they were having labour problems as whenever you did get seated early the restaurant wasn't even half full. So, if you are willing to put up with this frustration than I would say it is a fabulous resort.

The resort is very well kept by their staff. The grounds and beach are beautiful. However there is room for improvement. Poolside umbrellas and lounge chairs should have been replaced years ago. The resort feels dated. I was on vacation with my brother and our wives. Each of us became very ill for a minimum of 2 full days. Food poisoning was the issue for us. The concierge was made aware. Needless to say - this ruined our vacation. We will not be returning.

This was a very small resort which we knew before booking. The staff cater to repeat guests and no pool chairs are available as they are all reserved before 600am to frequent guests. No buffet for dinner so if you don't like the food at the resteraunt you order room service. Resteraunts were ok but not flavorful food except for the tapinaki. Constantly ran out of booze at the only open bar. Not top shelf booze. This si the kind of resort that you are forced to relax cause there is literally nothing to do. They had craft classes and other classes during the days but they were all booked before we even got there by the members. Drink service at pools and beach was poor for new guests waiting sometimes an hour. Average age of guests is 60. Had a relaxing vacation in this small resort so thankful for that. Just not worth the money we paid for it. Lotts of other smaller resorts are cheaper in playacar this resort only caters to repeat guests. Beach was nice but a whole lot of jellyfish in the ocean knee deep so didn't go in. Heated pool is nice but no chairs available even at six am

This resort is absolutely stunning! We were very pleased with the cleanliness of our room, the overall maintenance and care of the grounds and the warm and inviting staff. The food was delicious, restaurants were alway busy. The drinks were well made too. We truly have nothing bad to report!

The resort surpassed our expectations. From the moment we arrived and 8 days later, we were impressed with the consistency of all staff, cleanliness in all areas and the sense of relaxation the resort provided. Our room was very comfortable in a quiet area surrounded with palm trees. The 6 restaurants were very good with excellence in service and a nice variety of food. The 6 pools were lovely, clean and well kept. We spent most of our time at the beach and liked that you didn’t have to get up early to reserve a sun bed. There were always plenty to choose from. The beach was well maintained by the resort and you can enjoy a nice leisure walk in both directions. Yoga on the beach is offered 3 times a week and the instructor was excellent. We didn’t want to leave!

Totally enjoyed this resort. Especially loved the a la carte restaurants for supper. The Infinity pool close to the ocean was wonderful, could sit at the pool and still have the beautiful view of the ocean

The hotel is beautiful. The concierge assigned to our building was super helpful. The main lobby staff is incompetent and unprofessional. More training is needed there. The dinner restaurants have very small portions and must be booked every night. No buffet. For the price, not worth it. Riu chain is far better. I would not stay here again and would NOT recommend it to my friends.

The resort was fantastic and exceeded our expectations. It was everything we could asked for and more. We could have stayed longer and left us asking for nothing . The resort itself was extremely well kept. What you see on the website is actually what the grounds and beach look like. The staff kept the grounds impeccably manicured and did so in a fashion that they did not distract from the experience. Every morning we woke up and the beach only meters away was raked, furniture re-organized and any bits of seaweed were removed. The water was like swimming in a post card. Crystal clear blue, white sands and sandbars out certainly several hundred meters. The beach was the largest on the strip, with only about 200 guests its was wide open and perfect. If the ocean is not your thing, pick one of the many great pools and maybe one of the activities after lunch. The staff from the restaurants to the bell hops were beyond gracious and courteous. Everyone was very helpful and you always felt it was about you. Most activities were available for no cost. Available were tennis, basket ball, bikes, pickle ball, Bocci Ball and much more. There is also a games room and pool table off of one of the bars. The standard sailing and scuba were there if you wanted to pay. All the restaurants were amazing. This was the highlight as the food was truly five star and not a typical cheaper resort. You name it, it was there. Live music at the club, shows every night in the theater kept you busy till bedtime if you wanted. In a gated community you could walk to town and feel totally safe. Area made it accessible to the ruins, cenotes and snorkeling in Cozumel if you fancy. Adults only and your own concierge was a nice touch. February was a great month, sunny and hot. Yes best beach ever. Lots of chairs and all of them have covers and/or umbrellas. Food was great but making dinner reservations was chaos and terribly unorganized. Concierges were totally useless but wait staff and bartenders were excellent. Rooms were large and well maintained.

Hotel is nice. Quite dated with old shower. The bed was comfy. 2 sinks was great. Beach grounds and shoreline was outstanding however water although aqua in colour and warm was very rough with lots of sharp coral. Windy conditions for 10 days, too bad for us. Swimming was very difficult. Lots of steps and slippery surfaces. At 75 I was very careful everywhere I walked. Food was not good at the deck/grill. Good at Azia and the Mediterranean restaurants. Drink selection was very good. Having beach chairs available without reserving was a Hugh plus. People working at the resort were pleasant.

Not only was it a beautiful resort with amazingly beautiful views of the ocean but it was also a great place to relax and be catered to. Our room was spectacular. The resort size was ideal since it was not crowded at the pool, for dining nor on the beach. As picky eaters we were impressed by the variety of restaurants and menu items to choose from. We were especially impressed by the dining service at the Grill from our favourite staff member named Frank N. He was attentive and very efficient. We appreciated the willingness, efficiency and cordial nature of all staff which enhanced our stress-free vacation. The atmosphere, the service, the beauty and the tranquility of this resort made this our favorite vacation so far.

This small resort was recommended to us by our Tripcentral Agent, Jenn Black, and we were so glad she did! We are not folks that normally enjoy an all inclusive vacation. However, we needed a quick break from Nova Scotia and this one ticked all the boxes. It was a great vacation, relaxing, good food, quiet with a pleasing stretch of beach to enjoy a good book and go for a swim.

This was our first time in Mexico. Hotel grounds were impeccable; service was delightful; food was scrumptious.Loved the aqua aerobics; the free champagne at check in; the quick turn around re room service between 11 pm-7 a.m. Appreciated the hotel bathrobe and slippers and champagne, chocolates and fruits waiting for us upon arrival. Make full use of your concierge assigned to your unit. Loved the boxed lunch to go since we were leaving early. Thankful that the all inclusive shuttle only arrived 30 minutes later than stated but we got to the airport well in time. One free ride on the speed boats; evening entertainment in the theatre every day. would be excellent additions. Aqua aerobics instructor on Wednesday July 17 was excellent forgot his name- but he was “in it””

Smaller resort - all villas with separate concierge. Food was excellent and the bars carried all top brands - any cocktail was possible. Beautiful theatre which was never even half full; only 3 nights of entertainment Distance to resort was over an hour from airport.

Beach was awesome however playing chair reserve every morning became tiresome. Hotel needs to invest in more chairs. Our concierge was never available and when he was he was very rude. Crowd was senior in ages and very snobby. A la carte restaurants were ok but not ideal for people with allergies or food sensitivities. Rooms are good but tired looking. Beds super comfortable. Not our cup of tea but made the most of it. Room service was great Check in was ridiculous. 2 hours. Total waste of time for no reason and when asked if we had been there before, to which we replied no, the failed to provide any information and merely stated, any questions??? Not a good first impression. Will not be returning.

Beautiful resort our second time in 2 years, gorgeous grounds very peaceful we really enjoyed the beach it's breath taking beautiful , food was good too except for the Mexican restaurant which should stand out more than the others simply because it's mexico..

Our room was very nice and comfortable. The staff were very nice, especially the breakfast staff. Elena always greeted us with a lovely smile and got to know us as we entered for breakfast and lunch. I would like to send a note to Isidore, our concierge for building 23. We left him a tip, but unfortunately we left only around $1.00 in American dollars. We were under the impression we left more. Please pass on our apologies to him. We did not mean to insult him. Isidore was very helpful and so kind to us. Thanks.

Nice resort overall. It is the perfect size and is generally quiet. Does not cater to a party type of crowd. That being said, the evening entertainment is almost non-existent. Main buildings, restaurants and grounds are kept very well - clean and inviting. Food was very good. Service was very good. All employees were helpful, warm and friendly. Beach was very good. The villas and rooms are showing their age and are in need of renovation. They are adequate at the moment but are in a state of decline. Purchased the Resort view room (1 upgrade from basic level). Did not see the difference between this level and the basic level. I believe I paid extra for no value.

The resort is in need of some updating. The rooms are spacious but tired. The bathtub was in need of repair and there were areas where paint was peeling on the windowsill. The linen should be replaced....no longer white, definitely not fluffy and very worn. Beach and pools excellent.

Wow, what an unexpected pleasure this resort was. Our room was on the second level first villa closest to the hotel. Very quiet and a garden view that was tranquil and serene. What can I say about the restaurants other than all were absolutely fabulous. Presentation, taste, wide choices and wonderful service were sure to please any palate. The beach was lovely and clean. There were always chaises available on the beach and some Bali beds as well that my partner being the early riser acquired for us. The grounds and landscaping were beautiful and there are several quiet pools throughout. The staff were amazing and friendly and always courteous. My only complaint for this resort is that dinner reservations had to be made for all. Your concierge is more than happy to walk you through this and make suggestions. Book early for the Asian cuisine as it is popular and was so amazing. The good presentation was gorgeous and delicious. Offsite excursions were booked with Carlos our AirTransit representative. It was the first time for all of us (two couples) at this hotel and we would definitely reconsider returning.

Very satisfied with the hotel and service there. We were pleasantly surprised by the beach - though there was algae, we were still able to swim and the water, once past that initial width of algae, was beautiful and clear. Not having been able to travel because of COVID, the vacation was wonderful. Thank you.

Our second visit to this resort proved very disappointing. Still a beautiful setting and stunning to look at, the resort has deteriorated physically lacking even minimum expectations of hot water and functioning mini-fridges. Our room, particularly the bathroom was very tired. The food at The Grill, where we ate dinner several times, was uninspired with very small portions. The lunch buffet and poolside fare provided few choices. The Room Service food was inedible. Service was inconsistent and the overall impression was of a food service staff that is severely overworked. The resort is very clean and maid service was efficient and friendly. All staff were masked at all times and there were hand sanitizing stations throughout. This resort is definitely not what it used to be and we will not return.

I would not recommend this resort to anyone. There was no concierge, my phone did not work all week, asked 4 times to have it repaired. Had to asked for products. Patio door did not lock. Rooms not very clean…. Very dated. Grounds need A lot of TLC and to be cleaned. Pool was never cleaned, a lot of build up on the sides, needs a major clean. Beach was not cleaned, a lot of garbage. Chairs on the beach old, torn, dirty. Rooms, lobby, chair's, restaurants need a deep cleaning and a lot of TLC. Beach shower dirty, falling a part. Service in restaurants was good, the food was good, very limited seafood. I would consider this resort a 3 star only! Victoria, I was not happy at all with your recommendation and the price we paid for the week for this resort!

This was our 5th visit to the Royal Hideaway. Yes the rooms are a little tired but they are spotlessly clean. The grounds are immaculate. The people make the resort. They are so kind and work so very hard. The food was fantastic. All staff wore masks and we did too. We would go back in a heartbeat.

This was our third time staying at the Royal Hideaway Playacar (we've gone each February for the past 3 years). The food, drinks, rooms, grounds, and staff are all amazing, and the resort has such a charming, intimate feel to it because it is so small (about 200 rooms). My only complaint is about the canvas sun shades/canopies on the beach. This hotel is distinct because it has one of these for each set of chairs on the beach (most other resorts don't have this). When we first came here in February 2018, every single set of chairs on the beech had one. When we returned in February 2019 we noticed that some of the canopies were not in working order and had not been replaced, and some chairs were missing canopies altogether. On our recent return trip in February 2020, I was shocked that there were hardly any canopies at all. I estimate that only 20% of the chairs had them, which meant you needed to get up before the sun to reserve your chairs on the beach if you wanted one. This luxury resort is doing itself a disservice by not replacing the canopies. We want to return in February 2021, but I'm worried that there will be no canopies on the beach at all. In order to enjoy a relaxing and comfortable day at the beach, there has to be shade options for every chair.

This resort is absolutely gorgeous. The rooms are very spacious and beautifully appointed. The grounds are well - kept and there is so much greenery. The big pools offer amazing views of the ocean, and the small pools are so private you are often the only ones there. The beach is spectacular, the food at the restaurants is exceptional, and the staff go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. I have only 2 small criticisms. It is unfortunate that smoking is allowed in the one outdoor bar with evening entertainment. Most nights we couldn't sit there because of all the smoke. The second is the culture of snagging pool chairs in the wee hours of the morning (by laying towels or books on them). Many days we saw chairs with towels on them with no one sitting in them for hours on end. Something needs to be done to make the pool chairs more equitably available to all guests.

This is a beautiful, well maintained, very clean resort. Our room was beautiful and well appointed. The decor throughout the resort was old Spanish influenced and furniture everywhere was very fine quality. The staff were excellent, polite and very accommodating. The best part was the magnificent swimming pool with plenty of comfortable seating and shade for everyone. The food was very good although I personally do not like having to make reservations. The beach is beautiful but the distance from the pool to the ocean is too far with no shade closer to the water. Check in time is rigidly monitored at 3:00 pm. Period. No exceptions. Not acceptable for a five star resort. However, having said that it was a lovely experience and we would return.

This was my first ever trip to Mexico, and from the moment I got off the airplane it was just magical! First off, the people are incredibly kind and helpful. Arriving at the resort was like walking into a slice of heaven. The Royal Hideaway Playacar is absolutely breathtaking. The grounds are consistently and beautifully manicured. The room was spectacular! Very comfortable bed and luxurious washroom. It also had a lovely balcony with a view of the pool and ocean. Who could ask for more! The food was unreal! I have never eaten so decadently for 7 days straight. The service was absolutely 5 star. Everyone was extremely kind and very accommodating. I’ve never been so sad to leave a resort as I was The Royal Hideaway Playacar ❤️

This resort was good, not great. The beach was amazing although very little shade and canopies over the chairs were often broken so had to jury rig up a way to make it work. All pools were amazing especially the pool by the spa. Always quiet and bar service was close by although sometimes no one there to serve. Food was good. A couple of lunch choices were horrible. Don't get the pork rib burger for lunch. Really weird consistency and taste. Wings and spring rolls at lunch really good. Limited selection of restaurants and food choices made some meals feel less than expected. Some meals also incredibly rich. Overdone with sauces but might be my personal choice. Got room service one night. Burger was ok. Keylime pie was the size of a small petrie dish and ordered a bottle of wine. He forgot the bottle of wine so had to run back for it. Although a concierge at every building sounded like a good idea, they were completely useless. That was the opinion of everyone I talked to. Most of that was unsolicited opinion and was from other buildings as well. We met with Erik the first day and he promised to get us into all restaurants starting the next day and we asked for a bottle of white wine in the mini bar everyday. All was promised, shook hands and we went on our way. We were to have reservations the next day at one of the restaurants. Looked all over for him that next day and was no where to be found. Finally went to another building concierge and they called Erik so he came running from who knows where. Guess what??? No reservations made, no bottle of wine. Next day no water in the mini fridge. I helped myself to water behind concierge desk because he wasn't there again. One final thing. One day I had to go up to the room before the maid got in there. Had left money on the bed and separate money in the fridge. Got in the room, found mini fridge full again (thankfully) , money gone from fridge and money also gone from the bed. I was disturbed by this as the maid hadn't been in the room. Looks like fridge guy took the money off the bed. So, left money in the bathroom next day so fridge guy wouldn't see it and was only gone after the maid was in there. Now maybe it's the same person so have to give them the benefit of the doubt but none the less disturbing. If they really want to make this a luxury resort, hire new concierges that do actual work. I will say that at all restaurants greeting and wait staff were amazing. Thank you to all of you for your great service. If it weren't for them, I rate this hotel much lower.Overall experience was satisfactory but not wowed like I should've been.

If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, this is the perfect place , with the exception that the management should look into the doors of the rooms slamming shut and making a loud noise , very difficult trying to sleep with guests room doors making such loud noises . The service was very good and they really appreciated the service. The age group is majority 50 and over , so it worked out ok for me. I felt very safe at this resort , little disappointed with the food, would give it 7 out of 10. Overall I expected a little more for the price

This resort is truly a 5 star. The rooms are beautiful and large. The beach has white sands and the water is different shades of turquoise. I have never seen and been in such clear and clean water. The service is outstanding, very polite and helpful. We did tip a lot but it never seemed expected. The infinity pool was a lot of fun and we participated in the water fit held at noon which was so fun and the music was peppy and made you want to dance in the water. The meals were so delicious, especially at Spices, an authentic Mexican Caribbean restaurant. Try the chicken tortilla soup and the fresh fish options. Everything was so good. Be sure to go to the Allegro bar for the live music and delicious margaritas.We definitely recommend this resort.I would love to go again.

We loved the property, the service, the staff, the food.....all of it! It was so well maintained, staff always cleaning the property. We actually had no idea it was one of the Leading Hotels in the World, and were very pleasantly surprised. It was a perfect vacation, and we intend to come back soon! Thank you so very much.

Five star all inclusive resort. Excellent accommodation. Rooms are large and very new. Clean and well maintained. There are six restaurants to choose from. And can be reserved when you check in on the first day. Gourmet food. Great staff.

Stunning grounds with perfect pools and beach area... there are so many quality areas to enjoy the grounds and the sun for hours and hours. And when you do the service will be consistently helpful. The Grill overlooking the beach has a million-dollar view... which is a good thing because the food in this all-inclusive is what sets it apart... every restaurant is delicious. But The Grill was special... the Manager and the Wait Staff were amazing. The Royal Hideaway rooms were spacious and the king bed was top quality for a great sleep. This review is not an exaggeration at all... my wife and I had a really great 9 days... and we travel a lot. The only thing that could be improved... heat the pools a bit more. We will return.

If you’re looking for noise, activity and action, this is NOT the resort for you. We wanted a quiet, laid back and classier retreat for a few days, and this was a good choice. Strong points are the food, beach and rooms. Weak points are inconsistent service, limited food and alcohol choices and price. Overall, this is well worth a try, but it needs some improvement to really justify its five star rating.

Hotel was great. Unfortunately, although we requested a specific room a year ago, and on several other occasions, we did not receive it. Overall, everything was great, except a glitch in the booking of a private transfer.

I travel to Mexico 3 times a year for vacations and always stay at various 5 star resorts. Royal Hideaway Playacar is a favorite. The food is out of this world and the staff go above and beyond to pamper you. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. The landscaping is gorgeous. If you are a beach person, this resort is for you. Best beach in Mexico. Pools are beautiful too. In closing, this resort is truly a 5 star resort and you will not be disappointed.

Reception: well trained and knowledgeable staff work the front desk. Check in was smooth. Room: we had a second floor room and everything worked as it should (air conditioner, mini-fridge, lighting, plumbing, patio door, room safe and television). Appointments were tasteful and practical for our needs. Bed was comfortable. Room itself was very large and well laid out, and lots of natural light. SPA/Gym: we didn't use the spa services, but toured the facilities and they were clean and luxurious. The gym was small and divided into sections across two rooms. Free weight dumb bells, and a few multi-station machines and benches ensured an ability to do a full work out. The cardio equipment is in a separate room, and the only negative is that it is a very small room and not well ventilated. Restaurants: there are five a la carte restaurants (with limited serve yourself options at breakfast and lunch at one restaurant) Grill/Beach Grill: mornings and noon included a la carte and self-serve options. Breakfast was hot and fresh and very well maintained. Omelettes and eggs made to order. Lunch was much the same with a decent variety of options on the a la carte. Supper presents a steakhouse inspired menu with decent options that are well prepared. Asian: variety of Asian inspired dishes, but did not score highly in terms of taste. Dishes were fresh none the less and well made, just not tasty compared to what you are likely used to at home. Ventanas: (international theme) - lots of options, but tastes will vary. Familiar dishes prepared with the chef's own twist. Polazzo: (Italian) - great selection, well prepared, and tasty. Southern and northern dishes, as well as some more traditional North American fare. Spices: very good Mexican menu. Fresh, and well presented. Some authentic dishes as well as North American inspired offerings. Pools: two great pools (one infinity and one lap pool). Lots of activities to keep people busy around the pool, and excellent drinks/food service is provided. All with an ocean view! Beach: the beach is outstanding. Lots of lounger chairs, sun beds and shade for those who prefer staying out of the sun. Very quiet, as it is a very large area, and further removed from the flow of foot traffic of people walking along the beach itself. Grounds: very well maintained and clean. Quiet, despite the proximity to other resorts. Easy to get from one area to another and well marked. Staff: very motivated, pleasant and attentive. New staff is shadowed by more experienced staff as part of their onboarding strategy. Always helpful and eager to please and they take great pride in their customer service. Bars: some work could be done to better integrate the guest experience. Bars seem to be focused on serving the restaurants (in the main building) - a suggestion would be to offer more snacks throughout the day/afternoon to encourage visitors to hang out. Drinks are well made and served up quickly. Top shelf liquor, but oddly, no Sol beer. It's an easy enough walk into Playa del Carmen along the beach (20 minutes or so) and this is a bonus if you want to shop or dine off the resort. Great time, would recommend to couples who aren't seeking a nightlife experience, but a relaxing, fulfilling getaway.

The Royal Hideaway is the perfect adult all inclusive resort for relaxing and recharging. The grounds are impeccable, the staff goes out of their way to ensure you are looked after and the food is excellent. This resort has a very large, white sand beach that is never crowded and beautiful green water. Rooms are located in villas and each villa has a concierge to attend to your inquiries, make dinner reservations and help you with whatever you need. It is indeed heaven!

What a gorgeous resort - quiet restful and well-appointed. Food was gourmet and service fabulous ! A little older crowd and no partying ! Wonderful vacation ! Would highly recommend it - worth the extra money !

We were at the Royal Hideaway for 11 days and loved the resort. The weather wasn't on our side that week but it made no difference to our enjoyment. The staff were amazing. We were treated royally by everyone. We had a luxury room and it was very comfortable with all our needs met. Especially loved our patio that we could retreat to at the end of the day. The a la carte was first class. Loved all the restaurants. The grill was my least favourite, however still good but we didn't repeat. There was some renovations going on at the resort at the time of our stay which is to be expected I suppose, however the inconvenience was short lived. A suggestion to the resort - bring the Mexican buffet back on the Thursday fiesta event at the Club Royal. Most people we spoke to said it was fabulous and better than the a la carte fixed menu. We will definitely be returning. First class resort.

This was our 4th stay at this property since it opened. I have the said the quality has gone down - room quality (dated, door lock falling apart, jacuzzi bath not usable ...). Food quality and reduction is staff like no concierge are examples that contributed to a disappointing stay.

This resort is being completely renovated and is beautiful The resort is quiet and offers a very relaxing atmosphere Our assigned room was modern in appearance and kept clean. All services were great and the food was excellent. The sandy beach stretches for miles offering a enjoyable walk. We stayed at RH from Jan 21-28, 2017. The accommodations, food and service were all exceptional! Fabulous beach for morning walks. Great drink and snack service on the beach. The evening entertainment at the Allegro Bar was wonderful. We were not disappointed!

Just a great adults only resort. One of the best in the Playacar area. The grounds are beautiful with resort amenities not over subscribed. No line-ups here! There were plenty of places to discover a tranquil moment with a special friend or loved one. The food was consistently good; better than many of the other resorts in the area. The staff are very courtious and always made that extra effort to make our stay memorable. We will return there again in the spring.

Just got back from this amazing resort!! It was our second time there and we were still impressed !! Fantastic food and service!!! The resort is a perfect place to go to escape the busy world !!! The rooms and resort are very very clean !!! Our concierge Edgar was amazing and very good at his job!! Down on the beach we had Igor to greet us and help us every morning and all day long !!! The other guys were fantastic too....David, Javier, and so many more!!!!! The beach is one of the best we have had !!! I would highly recommend this resort if you want peace and quiet and fantastic food and service !!!!

We just returned from the Royal Hideaway. It was our third and best!!! Everything was amazing. Food/room/pool but the staff were unreal. The staff make your entire vacation There wasn't anything you can fault at the RH Cannot wait to go back

The resort is stunning from the villa type rooms with a concierge at every villa - We had Hector and by far went over the top to ensure every one of our needs were meet and exceeded he was on top of everything from booking our restaurant selections - that were true fine dining and yes you can get into each of the 5 restaurants with no problems - he literally took care of our every need and truly treated us as more of a friend then another number definitely be back to see him.. I had a dental issue come up - root canel - and they literally had a doctor at my room withing hours to have a look at me with they had made arrangements for a dentist the very next day to correct the problem all at a fraction of the price we pay in Canada and done within hours at perhaps one of the best dental experiences I have had as well this was all arranged by the hotel I literally had to do nothing they took the time and cared enough to have me picked up dropped off all done.for me ahead of time I literlly had to do nothing! There are way to many things to list that resort excelled at list them all so In short the best experience we have had and will be booking our next trip soon with them. My Thanks to the Management and staff of the Royal Hideaway for truly making this our best vacation ever.

Usually I book our vacations on line. This time we went into the Trip Central and met our new best friend, Krista. She suggested the Royal Hide and we are so thankful that she did!!! The Resort is absolutely amazing. Smaller than others we have stayed at but 1000 times better. it is clean, quaint, and beautiful. The service is the best we have ever experience and the food... world renown. We met some wonderful people. Many who constantly return to this location and we can understand why. The night life was just enough for us after a full day in the sun and all the delicious food. We so enjoyed "Tea Time" daily. The beach is beautiful as well. There was the ongoing seaweed issue but we waded through to enjoy the water. I told my husband that I have now been spoiled for life. I do hope that we can return sometime soon. You won't be disappointed!!!

Everything was beautiful...very boutique atmosphere..LOVED it. Everything was perfect and exactly what we expect form a 5 plus star resort. The rooms were comfy and clean, the food was simply to die for...we have been unable to match the food anywhere else! GO!

My wife and I have just returned from our seventeenth holiday at Royal Hideaway so obviously we enjoy the Resort. When we arrive we feel like we are coming to our second home with the welcome we receive from the staff, many of them have been there for a number of years. The grounds continue to mature and are meticulously maintained. When you walk along the main path with it's ponds, stream and fountains you would think you are in the midst of a grand estate. It is a unique property unlike any others we have stayed at or seen. The rooms are always nice, comfortable and cleaned and attended to twice a day. The warm coloured marble and tile in the room never goes out of style. The best part is the outstanding food in all of the restaurants. The quality and presentation is as good or better than you would find in any major city. Along with the great food the service from the staff is outstanding and this year my wife and I thought the staff were better than ever. One of the best things we find is meeting friends from past years who feel the same way as us about the Resort. Another highlight for us is the live entertainment throughout the property and the Mexican shows twice a week in the banquet hall. Actually the dancing by the activity staff was another highlight. The only concern that we had was the condition of the uprights on the room patios which have been damaged by the salt air from the water. All of the horizontal railings have been replaced with new painted aluminium structures and the General Manager informs me that the uprights will be replaced starting in April. Other than that we think Royal Hideaway is an outstanding Resort that we can't wait to get back to.

We loved this resort!!! The Lobby and reception areas are very elegant. Staff were all amazing and more than willing to help with anything. Grounds were spectacular and very enjoyable to walk through!! Rooms were very nice and clean!! Service and food was exceptional. Beach and ocean were fantastic!! We will definitely go back !!!

Over all, very disappointing. Resort is falling apart and in DESPERATE need of renovation. Food was generally very good, but some dishes were inedible. Beach was beautiful, but resort not in the same league. 3 star at best - spend your hard earned money elsewhere!

The rooms and grounds were excellent. Loved the pool overlooking the beach. We went in January and the pool was not heated and was too cold for swimming which was disappointing. Overall loved the location and the restaurants and food were first class.

This resort caters to older clients 50 and above which suited me. Grounds were well maintained and quite beautiful with very large mature trees providing much needed shade to walk up to the main building. Waiters would visit laying on your lounge chair and offer to bring you beverages every half hour or so. No need to get up to visit the bar unless you wanted to stretch your legs. Room in building 24 right on the beach was perfect and could see the beach sitting on the room's patio. Concierge Lidia was an amazing host. She took very good care of us and ensured we had our 7 dinner reservations all scheduled the first day we arrived and continually checked with us to see if we were enjoying our vacation. Most staff we encountered were amazingly friendly and polite. Some bar tenders were not very friendly. Absolute vodka, Ciroc other top shelf liquors are part of all inclusive package. Restaurants provided very good meals for the most part. Buffet breakfast is outstanding and they serve Mimosas every morning with breakfast if you like them. Lunch can be served in the restaurant overlooking the ocean or delivered to your lounger. Felt very decadent to sit on a lounger and have lunch delivered. Formal afternoon tea was a nice treat one day with tiny treats. Beach area is nicely shaded with palm trees if you're looking for shade and there are lots of sun loungers. There are even beds with mattresses overlooking the beach. No shortage of beach towels. Didn't try the spa or the parasail, suba diving, or snorkeling, or day trips. Walked to Playa Del Carmen to buy a few t-shirts. Took a taxi back to the resort (this was a very hot walk of 20 minutes). A few negatives. Be careful on the steps in the infinity pool. Steps are all the same dark blue tile, and some people stubbed their toes, scraped their legs because they couldn't tell where the steps were while getting out. Tile edge of each step needs to be changed to a different colour (bright yellow) so guests can tell where each step rises. Infinity pool is beautiful. Restaurants - Las Ventanas wasn't our "cup of tea" for dinner, although the presentation by the chef was absolutely beautiful. The flavours were just not to our liking, but the beef tenderloin was really good. Entertainment was good on Tuesday at the buffet restaurant. We were among the last 10 people to be invited up to the buffet tables, and discovered most chafing dishes empty of the hot food. Even butter for the bread ran out (requested more butter from 3 servers) but were slow to respond. Getting enough to eat over the day isn't a problem at all. Only discovered lack of food at the buffet on Tuesday. ALWAYS use the in-room safe to store all valuables. In room safe batteries were dead when we checked in, but maintenance came and replaced them promptly. Safe worked fine. At the end of our stay some cash was stolen from a night-table was noticed after the maid cleaned the room. I wanted to give this resort a 5 star, but given these negatives, can only give a 4.

This is one of the niceset resorts we have stayed at. If you want to relax in an adults only enviroment with very little stress and parting then this is the resort for you. Great Staff, Great Serivce and some of the best food anywhere. We have already book to return at XMAS.

All i can say is that my husband and i take one to three trips per year and we never go back to the same resort but i can guarantee everyone that we will most definitely being going back to the Royal Hideaway Playacar. It is one the most best five star resort we've ever been to. Excellent food, drinks, rooms and beach.
