Dining was satisfactory, the room was wet and smelly, the service was good, and the beaches had too much seaweed. The nature was amazing: turtles, birds, and perfect snorkeling; a lot to do in the area. Pyramids, caves, forests, old towns. This all.

We had a good time at the resort. The value matched the experience well. Nice rooms, beach, and restaurant. We were especially impressed with the food options and entertainment. We wish there had been more pools and unfortunately there was a lot of seagrass on the beach in May (which has nothing to do with the resort). Overall, would recommend! Chill vibes!

been 4 times now don't think I will return older clientele; staff was great rooms fine right on the beach, which is the kicker, food not as good, fresh sushi for lunch every day , lots of seaweed on the beach which didn't bother me, excellent snorkeling, unpleasant sewage smells all week and there was a strong breeze can't image the stench if no wind?

We absolutely love Akumal Bay Beach & Spa Resort. The service is outstanding-every staff member is so kind and welcoming. (Thank you to Aurora for our wonderful breakfasts each morning!) Oceanfront rooms, a beautiful beach just steps away, and incredible snorkeling right off the shore made this stay unforgettable. The resort has a smaller, intimate feel-you quickly feel connected, like you’re part of it… truly a “welcome home” experience. Great food (especially at Kooben), and the yoga and meditation experiences were highlights for us. We’ve been coming back every year for the past four years-and can’t wait to return again!

Yoga 2-3 times a day in a beautiful space overlooking the ocean, snorkeling and swimming with turtles and other beautiful ocean life, paddle boarding in the ocean breeze. Excursion left us with a deeper understanding and connection to historic and spiritual sacred spaces within the Mayan civilization and their ancient traditions and ways of life. Wonderful fresh fruits each morning and in the evening music and dance. This resort is located in a very special place and the people who run and manage it are equally as special. They go way beyond to help and to ensure comfort and hospitality are 5 star.

Fourth time visit to Akumal Bay Beach & Spa resort. Love the beach - is calm and protected. Snorkeling is always good in front of the resort. We like the small size and the proximity to the beach. Food was very good - appreciate you don’t have to book reservations. We will be back again.

This was our second visit. We do not usually visit a resort twice, but our first visit last year was so wonderful, we couldn’t wait to return! I found this hotel to be beautifully maintained and loved all the tropical plants. Every time I turned around there were smiling friendly people ready to help make your stay enviable. The food was really good and I enjoyed the 2 restaurants we went to. Everyone from the servers to the maids to the bartenders were very nice. It was my first vacation in 10 years and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

This hotel is great, such friendly and efficient staff who willingly fulfilled all our needs. Grounds were well kept, tho relatively small, were tidied regularly. Food in buffet a bit disappointing but specially restaurants served very tasty meals and were a excellent experience . Very nice big rooms but I was a bit frustrated with the patchy in Building 2.Thankyou for a most enjoyable stay

We loved this hidden gem of a resort. Staff were excellent and made our staff enjoyable. The food and entertainment were wonderful. The beach was clean and easy to swim in, the pool was also clean and cool to swim in. We loved the pool exercise and many drink bars throughout the resort. The only thing I would improve is the beach/ pool chair availability. We had to get chairs at 6:00 am or may not get them. I would also suggest to sell sunscreen in the gift shop. These are minor things compared to how well everything else was run and the thought out into the resets offerings. I would recommend the resort and certainly return . Thank you Akumal Bay Resort!

Hour and 1/2 from airport took most of first day and had to leave at 6:30am a week later losing last day. Food was absolutely the worst we’ve ever had anywhere in Mexico. Buffet was the same from lunch to dinner daily and alacartes were small restaurants with terrible food. Italian restaurant was an absolute joke with zero taste. The drinks weren’t much better, inconsistent, weak and watered down. Sushi bar was probably best food in the resort, but who wants that all week? Nobody scooped or cleaned the pool all day every day. The room was newly renovated and clean, but maid service was skipped on our last day and the fridge snacks and water was totally dependent on tips. No tip, no extra water, tip and load up water and snacks. Room was flooded one night in a rain storm and took until 4pm the next day after numerous calls to clean up the water which was an incl deep at 4am. Television didn’t work for 3 days until they finally fixed it. If the rooms aren’t finished, don’t sell them for the week until they are ready! Special coffee was good, but for the price, we were very surprised with all the 5 star reviews and return travellers. The views and beach were nice, but not nearly enough at this resort to bring us back ever, even if the price was slashed! Very disappointing, how anyone would keep returning here is beyond comprehension. By by Mexico!

I have been to this resort 6 times, including during renovations, and it never disappoints. I love that it is not part of a large corporation of resorts and that it is family owned. I love the music and the live bands. The staff go above and beyond to make people happy. The food is excellent. I wish I could rent a more comfortable lounge for the beach as I have back issues. My only minor complaint is I don't believe the staff at reception pay any attention to prior to arrival email room requests on arrival.

Overall exceeded expectations. Staff always available and willing to go the extra mile for you . Great snorkelling right from beach . Plenty of repeat customers. Excellent variety of food choices.

This resort was the absolute perfect haven for the rest, reset and healing that we were looking for. The staff (Omero, Luis, Juan Carlos, Amparo, Alex the Turtle King, Marrisa, Isreal, Gabriel, Adrianna) went above and beyond taking care of our every need, at any given moment of the day. The feeling of being welcomed home from the moment Juan the front desk greeter handed me a cold margarita after our very long travel day to being bid farewell and come back soon as we left in the early morning fully guarantees we will return again. The whole resort was immaculate, beautiful gardens and lovely spaces for meals that were so so amazing. The hard work to remove the seaweed was admirable and I simply cannot express my gratitude for this oasis for my heart and soul. Thank you Akumal Bay Resort for a magical first visit to Mexico xo

We had a comfortable week at this quiet, clean resort. Everything worked out well: good management, friendly and enthusiastic staff, relaxing meditation sessions . However, we avoid coming here this season because of sargassum: dirty beaches, plus environment fee, plus visitax.

From rooms to food and service, this resort does everything right. My room was very clean and had a recently renovated feel to it. Resort workers and waiters are friendly and fast. There is a small coral reef next to the resort so be sure to pack a snorkel! Live music almost every night made for great nights at the lobby bar after spending the day on the beach. Great food and drinks, you'll never go hungry. An excellent place, especially if you're looking for something lively but laid-back without the parties.

Stayed May 9-16th. Party of 6. Don't let the peacefulness and tranquility fool you. This resorts management and staff are top notch. They are seriously committed to their jobs and their guests satisfaction. Many went out of thier way to walk us over to whatever location or service we were inquiring about. Lots of cozy private seating nooks around the resort. Food at all venues was excellent, drinks and coffee as well.Seating at pool was limited as was shade. Beach was beautiful but be prepared to rise early for that special spot with shade. We had a few days with seaweed drifting in but the beach teams worked hard to clear. This did not spoil our swims. Ìf you àre a snorkelers you will love this right off the beach. Lots of varied sea life. We all loved our stay and will be back.

The resort was well planned out. Friendly and helpful staff. Great variety and abundance of food choices. A-la-cartes were exceptional. We are beach people, rather than pool people, but we did notice that there weren’t any loungers or chairs around the pool. Only had the canopy beds which people scooped up in the early morning hours so if you preferred the pool, and you didn’t get up super early (5:00am), you didn’t have anyplace to sit. Loungers on the beach we’re plantiful.

Amazing service, great food, all rooms are ocean view. Small resort which we like. No reservations for à la cartes is a big plus. No towel card scheme. Lots of chairs and sunbeds. 3 infinity pools plus one bigger pool. Snorkeling right off the resort.

We spent a week here beginning March 30th. The vibe here is relaxation which is exactly what we wanted. The resort was full but never felt crowded. There was no need for the towel game, although I cannot speak for the main pool area as we spent our time at the beach. The food was good - some things were GREAT. We liked the gourmet and Lima the best. Live music in the evenings was wonderful, and the staff, well, they make the place - so friendly, smiling, and hard working. I won't name any names because I may forget someone. There was seaweed/sargassum while we were there, but they work tirelessly to clear it, and it did not deter us from the water. It was windy as well, but that meant we could hear the waves crashing even from our room at night. This resort is very clean everywhere. Our room was spacious and 3 feet from the sand. We hope to go back again, possibly in the fall. If I have to pick something to complain about, it's that Sunwing had us at the airport 4 hours before our flight, and then there was a delay as well, but that's travel! We may book our own ride to the airport next time.

This resort is the right size for us, it isn't filled with wild parties or loud music. It was busy but we never waited for food or drink. The staff are amazing ! We had room 1002 which I think was the best view at the hotel...we lucked out...Building One is the Best. It was a very windy week with lots of seaweed but that did not put a damper on our holiday. Our room was clean and if we had an issue or request it was looked after. This resort could be an "Adults Only". I do wish there was some more activity..eg: Bingo in the Lobby Bar or Corn Hole ,etc....my husband does not like to just lay around and always joins in the activities at the other resorts we have stayed at...my daughter did do the painting class and we listened to the music in the lobby bar each evening. We loved the restaurants which was a nice change from the Buffet. We were right at the beach close to the bar and the infinity pool so we had all we needed in our little corner.

Great vacation end of March. The resort was full but never seemed crowded. We were in bld 2 not renovated but it was the perfect location, central to everything you need, stunning view and after the live music shuts down nightly it’s very quiet to sleep. Although our room was very dated, i would still pick it over the others that were farther away. This was the cleanest resort we’ve been to, the staff does a fantastic job! Every bathroom is cleaned multiple times a day at the pool/bars/restaurants/lobby. We saw staff cleaning the pool but our only negative on cleanliness would be that the pool just never seemed cleaned even first thing ,it could use more attention and it wasn’t bc of tree debris. Although the beach is close by, no Loungers near the pool was a miss for us. Often our group would be in the pool but we couldn’t get out and dry off close by and still socialize. Cabanas were further back and always wet, but still appreciated having them. Towels were plentiful which was great and no card required to check them out. Pool was brand new and still great to relax in, loved the 3 whirlpools at one end. Water yoga was fun to do, great instructors. The beach was great to lay at, lots of loungers and tons of snorkeling! The buffet had lots of choices. The service there was a bit inconsistent, most times we were well waited on, on occasion we’d be half done or more with no water or plates cleared. The omelette lady was so pleasant and fast but she needs to turn the grill down as most days they were overdone. Restaurants we tried Brazilian, French and Mexican were all fantastic, top notch food and service. Wish they had entertainment at night repeated like dancing more than once a week, we missed it bc of travel times. It was a long ways from Cancun airport but is definitely a great resort one we’ll keep in mind to return to!

This place was very good. Staff are excellent and very kind. Servers were amazing and very attentive. Food was excellent!! Beach was ok and snorkeling was very good. My only complaint was that our bed was awful. Squeaky and very worn.

My wife and I as well as my sister and niece were at the ABBWR from Feb 22 to Feb 28 2025. Except for the Sunwing delay for 24 hours (another story) the ABBWR met all our needs. It was my wife's and my 3rd visit!! Great staff, great beach and snorkeling right off the beach!!. Very good dining and a ton of choices and eating venues. My sister and niece are both gluten free and they were treated like royalty by Adrianna and Hector as well as all the other a la carte venues. Yes - the building 1 we were in is in real need of an update (I understand building 3 and 4 have already been updated). The rooms are very basic and in need of an overhaul. Did not impact our stay but for those looking for 4-5 stars make sure you are in building 3 or 4 for now until building 1 is redone. FYI building 1 is in front of the best part of the beach!! We loved this hotel! It was very clean. The rooms were great. The resort never felt overcrowded. We snorkeled right off the beach everyday, enjoyed paddle boarding, yoga and pickle ball. Our only downside was that the food was only so-so. Nothing was bad, but nothing was outstanding either. If you aren’t too worried about food I would recommend this resort any day. If you are looking for the food to be amazing I would suggest elsewhere.

Our stay at Akumal Bay Resort was truly unforgettable—by far the best resort experience we’ve ever had! From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in an atmosphere of relaxation, warmth, and impeccable service. The highlights of our trip included Franco’s daily sound healing meditations, which were transformative and left us feeling completely rejuvenated. Ricardo, our server, and Jeanie, the hostess with the mostest, consistently went above and beyond to ensure our every need was met with a smile. Manrique at the beach snack bar was equally exceptional, always offering great food and friendly conversation. The resort’s grounds were stunningly maintained, and the beach was nothing short of paradise. Our room was fabulous—comfortable, spacious, and perfectly suited for unwinding after a day of adventure. What truly set Akumal Bay Resort apart, though, was the staff. Every single person we encountered made us feel special and cared for, exceeding all expectations and creating memories we’ll cherish forever. We cannot wait to return and experience this slice of heaven again!

This was our fourth visit to Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort and this place never fails to exceed our expectations. The resort is still absolutely lovely. The rooms are lovely (some still to be renovated), the food is excellent and the ocean vistas and beach are stunning. But what never fails to win us over completely is the STAFF. They are the nicest bunch of people you will ever meet. They exceed all my expectations. I will refrain from singling out people by name. There are too many wonderful folks to mention in this review. Just be prepared to feel at home and smile a lot.

The renovated suite was beautiful. There’s lots of updating needed in the hotel but once completed it will be back to its full glory. The beach is superb, service is as warm as sunny July! Food is good. Some stuff better than others, but we were able to find something great to eat in every meal. Hotel is perfect for a quiet relaxing vacation, if you are looking for activities and a partying atmosphere, this is not the place. We fell in love with Akumal and will certainly be back!

A little outdated but clean, quiet and staffed with friendly, helpful people. It is also situated in a bay that is great for snorkeling off the beach. I would go back to this resort again when i get a chance.

Stayed at Akumal bay beach Wellness and Spa for 1week. The beach is amazing. No need to go out of the resort to snorkel . The staffs are amazing. Special mention to Luis, Carlos, Adriana, Wilbur. We were there when hurricane Beryl hit the yuxatan peninsula . The staff worked tirelessly preparing for the hurricane and as well as after the it passed. I will definitely going back to this resort

Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness resort was a setting for a quiet, relaxing vacation. The rooms, were clean and comfortable, the staff were so friendly and helpful going above and beyond with service. I would have liked to see more variety with the buffet and restaurant choices but we were not hungry. The beach was a little rocky getting in the water but we had heard that and brought water shoes which worked well. We loved the cabanas and this was amazing if you didn’t want to be in the sun. We swam in both the pools and enjoyed strolls on the beach. Found my happy place

This was our second time there, and we enjoyed it. The staff was extremely helpful - a shout our for the front office manager Jorge (I am sure I am not spelling his name right!!), and Carolina! Thank you both for making the stay pleasant. The food was great, and we enjoyed the Mexican restaurant especially. The grill restaurant was a HUGE disappointment though. This came a a shock to us as the last time we were at Akumal Bay, we had rated it as the best - and this time alas it was even below the worst!!! I know the hotel cannot do anything about it (maybe you can??), but the beach was really bad. The rocks jutted out and the legs and feet got scraped a lot. If anything can be done about it, then it would go a long way in ensuring repeat customers. Some guests at the beach would occupy the loungers by placing their towels and "reserve" their seats. Some of us were left waiting more than two to three hours for someone to vacate, while those loungers stayed empty of guests. One day I decided to occupy after waiting for a while, and after two hours a couple came to claim "their" spot and the girl was very unpleasant and rude. If the hotel staff could monitor this, it would be polite to all the guests.

If you want a giant anonymous hotel; this is not for you. If you want an adults-only party hotel; you would be better elsewhere. If you like a medium-small hotel, where friendly guests and staff both come back year after year; we might recommend this hotel. If you like to walk into the water directly in front of the hotel, where you can snorkel in a protected bay surrounded by fish; we highly recommend this hotel. We follow our own advice, we have stayed here roughly 20 times. The large buffet serves sufficiently tasty and varied food that we seldom try the specialty restaurants, although you should do that. A late afternoon snack of freshly prepared sushi is our particular treat. Live bands perform nightly in the main bar lounge, with a focus on the 70's thru 90's era. All rooms fully face the ocean, and the groundfloor patio rooms offer shade, close access to the small infinity pools, Bali beds, and garden/pool/beach bars.Twice a week, a marine biologist working on the activity staff delivers a fascinating "Turtle Talk" that should not be missed. The resort is 95 kilometers from the airport, so be prepared for a van ride of at least 90 minutes, usually slightly more as the van often makes stops along the way to let off guests at two or three other hotels along the way. As of early 2024, the hotel is undergoing a full renovation, in stages, expected to last an entire year. Consequently, a number of rooms are out of service, and the chance of a room upgrade to the top floor penthouse rooms is quite high. A sneak peak of the new rooms looked great, with a lot of wood character, and additional privacy in the bathroom area.

Beach was fabulous, just not enough loungers & beds at the pool & beach , people saving them & not using them for hours , food was not to my liking buffet food was always cold , room was a bit outdated but clean , night entertainment was only bands & singing , service was great , staff was very friendly

We had a fantastic stay at Akumal Bay Beach Resort. The beach, snorkeling, restaurants, entertainment and especially the staff were all remarkable. In particular the Beach Services Manager German was a fun and gracious host who made our stay even better. Five stars!!

We waited quite a few years to book Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness & booked it for our 20th Anniversary. The main reason we went there was for the snorkeling & although the ocean was stirred up we still saw turtles, lots of different coloured fish & some coloured coral. As for the resort the room was dated but the bed was comfortable & the A/C worked great, lots of hot water, good maid service & daily refill of water. We were in building 1 & it was quiet with a good view as per our request. It was good to have our own chairs on days we couldn’t get a beach chair. The food at the Buffett was good & there was a good variety.we only went to 1 a’La carte. To solve the problem with getting a beach chair in the morning we were forced to be out there by 7 am. Not something we enjoy but it solved the issue. Other days we were usually able to get chairs by lunch time. We read a lot about the service in the restaurants before we went but found the service at one so slow we got up & left after 15 min when our order had not been taken. In the Buffett the service got much better after it was discovered that we tipped. At first we truly felt invisible. We wanted a massage but they were $120 US which is over 165 Canadian & we couldn’t pay that price for a 50 min massage. Being able to use the washer & dryer was nice. All in all we wouldn’t return but in 20 years have only gone to 3 resorts more than one time so that isn’t odd for us. The resort has no lights at the entrance to mark its location so our driver went past it & had to back up. They need to fix that . We found the resort very quiet & laid back, the beach is gorgeous & water amazing & for that we will go back to Mexico ! We love it there.

This is my favourite beach resort in the Caribbean. I love the food. Love the sushi bar and the a la carte gourmet restaurants.The rooms are spacious and clean, and every room has an ocean view. There are minor issues (our coffee pot leaked and was not replaced even though we requested it) but I know that the resort is in the process of renovating rooms. The staff are friendly and just wonderful. The grounds are beautiful. The live music every night is awesome. The location is spectacular. I love it that the resort is small and intimate and is not a chain. You can't beat this place overall!

This hotel is nice,the service is impeccable. I don't think it's a 5 Star, a 4! It's getting old and in need of repairs and upgrades. Our room wasn't ready until 3:25 p.m., after hours of travel it should be ready on time. The food is pretty good but they need to introduce a few more dishes to provide more varieties of food. Akumal and the beach are beautiful and the snorkeling awesome. I would have given it a five star but due to the need of repairs and upgrades I can't. I would recommend this resort for a quiet vacation but it lacks enough entertainment.

We are a retired couple looking for some r&r and beach time. We found it at this resort. It was quieter than other resorts we have been to, which was perfect for us. There was a live band every evening instead of cheesy entertainment. The food was great with lots of variety. The water was warm, no wind and little waves. The highlight of our trip was the turtle class with Alejandro, a very passionate biologist who educated us about the turtle population in the bay. This talk should be mandatory for anyone staying there. The staff were all very friendly, quick to smile and helpful. Aurora always had a cheerful greeting and a hearty laugh at the omelet station. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there, and definitely want to go back.

Staff was excellent. Hotel is a little tired. Not 5 star, 4 star might be a bit of a reach too. A lot of the infrastructure was old but the restaurants were good. Buffet was ample, I'm not sure what else you would need that they didnt have. Beach is nice .Really nice snorkeling and coral reef right off the beach, rays, fish and occasional turtle. Usual ignorant selfish people who book a chair and then dont use it all day. Toss the towel and take the chair, problem solved. Small resort, relaxing time. 3.5 to 4.0 star infrastructure with 5 star staff. Go in expecting this and you will have a great time. Relaxing vacation, I would go again knowing what to expect. Again...staff was amazing without exception... Resort is a long way from the airport. I have no idea where the Air Canada rep was at the airport but we walked around harassed by cabbies and excursion people until we saw an Air Canada Vacations bus and went and asked. A.C. rep was not on site for about 3 days for no given reason. Some small annoyances: theres a small tax ( like $1.10 us per day) you have to pay before checking out.. no big deal but still include it my costs.. CANCUN VISITAX!!! 224 PESO PER DAY. YOU CAN PAY ONLINE OR ...DONT PAY IT!! UNLESS THEY CHECK AT THE AIRPORT YOU DONT NEED TO PAY IT! IT WORKS OUT TO ABOUT $125 CAD PER PERSON....BUT YOU CAN JUST NOT PAY IT ....

So, we traveled to Akumal Bay Beach and wellness resort for 7 days in July 2023 as a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids aged 5 and 6.5 years old. I would 100% recommend this resort to everyone. We absolutely loved everything about it. The staff were friendly and polite and would go out of their way to make your experience memorable. All greet you with smiles and are helpful. The food is great with options for everyone. On our 7-day trip, we were never disappointed with any meal at the buffet, even for kids. The beach was good as it wasn't rocky and the kids were able to enjoy it well. The rooms are spacious and we never felt crammed in the room as a family. We had opted for the cheapest room (junior suite) and it came with 2 double beds, a sofa, T.V., a balcony with ocean and pool view with a jacuzzi tub on the balcony, and a spacious closet space with a toilet and shower. The water pressure in the shower head was a hit as usually in even some expensive hotels the shower head seems to be clogged with very slow water pressure. The resort is about 1.5 hours away from the airport which we didn't mind since we had the provision of shuttle service to and from the airport to the resort. We loved every minute spent there and would definitely love to visit them again.

Finally able to get back to ABBWR after the covid years and AirTransit dropping the resort. Booked thru Air Canada, chose Premium Economy which was pretty good altho no extra bag allowance like AT. And they do not combine weight of luggage as AT does. For example, i am usually a kilo or so over, hubby kilo or two under. AT takes it. AC makes you open up your suitcases at the check-in and move till both at or under weight. Really? Ride to resort long. Makes way more sense to drop off the furthest people first as the highway is not designed to make frequent stops. So they start down the highway from the airport and have to cross all lanes 5 times to enter all the resorts. Very time consuming but we suck it up. Check in easy and we got the room we requested; ground floor bldg 1. Forgot despite being there 5 times how badly the rooms are furnished. they are nice looking but completely not functional. you get 2 12" drawers and hangers so high up i couldn't reach them (but i'm really short). Nicely designed bedside tables and room table are lovely but useless. They are planning a reno, i sure hope someone puts thought into storage so your room doesn't look like a cyclone hit it the whole time you are there. There are 3 shelves where the safe is. And yes, add a full length mirror!!!!! ladies like to check out their outfit before dinner. Seeing the top of my head isn't enough! Food was as usual, good but not excellent. I love you don't have to reserve your specialty restaurants. If you go by 6pm, you can get it. If you wait till 8, you will probably have to wait. Snorkelling right off the beach was excellent. Saw rays, and a turtle. If you go down past the snorkel frenzy at Akumal public beach, there is a little cove which is where we saw the best underwater show. Akumal town itself is the same, a couple lovely stores and some practical ones where you can pick up stuff you forgot or souveniers. 5 minute safe walk on the beach. Nice and low key. Sargassum was bad a couple days and fine on others. Noticed that last time we were there when sargassum was really bad, ABWWR had excellent cleanup where Secrets was awful. This time, Secrets was doing a fantastic job cleaning up the seaweed where ABWWR flailed a bit. It is what it is. All in all still my favorite place for the size of the resort, the low key atmosphere and 10 second walk to the beach/ocean.

Beautiful place. Amazing staff. It was our first time in Mexico and we can’t wait to go back to Akumal Bay Beach Resort. Weather wasn’t great (very windy, couldn’t snorkel every day) but it didn’t spoil our vacation.

This will be the best resort you will ever go to. The food is top notch. Whatever you need the staff will find a way to accommodate you with no hesitation. It is certainly geared to a forty plus age group and if you are in n that age bracket this resort is for you

The maintenance requires a lot of improvement boards needed replacing on the decks, to the point of being dangerous. Serious lack of beds on the beach, requiring people to wake up at 6:00 am to reserve with a towel. Food was good but lacked variety, stupid things like the orange juice in the morning was so watered down, especially my last day, out of 7 days 2 were not watered down. The pool was not clean top four inches of the walls were greasy with suntan lotion and algae This was never the case before. Ceiling fans in the lobby were not working and turned off, or one in two working. AC in the rooms working but no control over temp it was cold or off. I expected things to be different after covid but not to this extent. There is a great attitude from the staff in general, grounds are kept pristine but chairs not stained, taps in the room were mismatched. I realize they suffered a lot during covid but example a couple from england reserved a year ahead because there was a kid's club, which was great in the past, but when they arrived it was closed. I would be hard pressed to say I would return after 4 visits.

ABR is a small resort on a wide white sandy beach where one goes to relax and snorkel. It is not a party place. It is family friendly. Most of the staff have been there for years. Many of the guests have been coming back for years. You can talk to anyone there, even if you don't have a language in common. When you come back to ABR and the bell captain gives you a hug and says "Thanks for coming back" you know that you are at home again.It's a long rive from the Cancun airport, but it is entirely worth it.

I like the hotel grounds as it was not too big and actually connected by beach to a public access beach connected to public transit along the highway. Akumal town across the highway overpass on land side has news stories that include shootings but I was there is the main street in daylight to buy fruits so your experience may vary. As for the hotel itself, everything was clean and the only thing left was to to soak up the sun and enjoy the meals and drinks provided. There is an all day snack bar but I think the chicken from the lunch and dinner buffet is the best. Also there are sea turtles nearby off hotel grounds available for snorkeling available for 500 pesos but try and negotiate down and go in a group with Mexican customers for a cheaper and longer tour.

The resort is a home away from home. Perfect blend of rainforest and the beach. Cozy cottage and beach decor. Amazing staff that goes out of their way to make their customers happy. Taster food, clean beach not so crowded and the wellness programs and activities were awesome. Special thanks to Irem, our Yoga teacher, Lizbeth the PR manager( she made us feel extremely special and comfortable) and Alexandro who was the activities Center employee. He was very helpful, friendly and made our stay extra special showing us passion for turtles and sustainability. Loved this place, will surely go back again soon!

This was our second time at this resort. The last time was in 2016. This time was much the same. Although there are some things that were different that the resort had no control over like the massive mounds of seaweed on the beach and bad weather ( only 4 days). We appreciated how hard they worked to remove the seaweed every day. Some days it seemed like a losing battle. But when there is no seaweed event the beach is one of the best anywhere, and the snorkeling is so awesome here! The room was much the same as last time although this time it felt a little tired, but still very clean and nice. The safe was temperamental at times and they sent a repair guy one day. It worked as long as you don’t rely on seeing the numbers on the digital window, so we managed. No big deal. The food is really great and the staff are amazing. We would recommend this resort and will probably return.

Except for the past two years, we travel south yearly to all inclusive resorts and I always do my research before booking a resort. Most of the reviews about ABBWR are correct. The service is top notch, the grounds are beautiful, snorkeling is great right off the beach, there are no reservations required for the à la carte restaurants which are good and you never have to wait long to get a cold drink. Some of the things that were disappointing are the dated rooms which are large and kept clean but with faulty a/c, tv and thin walls; cold food at the buffet - unless you stand in line at the egg, meat or pasta stations, pretty much everything else will be cold. This can easily be fixed by having a better system to keep the food warm. The structures on the beach for shade don’t provide much and the pool beds are old with stained and dirty coverings. All in all finding shade at the beach or pool is difficult. The beach chairs are used, dirty and some are broken. Investing in new beach chairs and mattress covers would solve the problem. The larger pool isn’t that large and was not always kept clean. It is true that the staff are this resort’s greatest asset and probably why people return. Would we return…..probably not. The reasons: screaming and crying kids with parents who don’t seem to care or notice their poor behaviour, one puked in the pool, two had a big fight in the middle of the pool, the family next door to us had 2 kids who were fighting, screaming and throwing tantrums all the time. I think the father had enough one night, he left and arrived at 2:30 am, slamming the door and waking us up. We book a trip each year to get away for some rest and relaxation. This was not the most restful or relaxing vacation we’ve ever had which is why we would not return and have decided to only book adults only resorts from now on.

We stayed in building 2 again. Close to everything. The rooms all face the Ocean and have a jacuzzi on the balcony. Very basic rooms that are very clean and worked for us. Just in the room to sleep and shower. The Buffet always has a variety and nobody will starve here. I gained 10 pounds. All the restaurants are good but we love the Rodizio. No reservations required at any of the restaurants. Alux was also excellent. You have to get a cappuccino in the morning from Wilberth. Very funny man. Main pool bar had Duceli and Marbella cater to our drink wishes. The Best Service ! Live bands for entertainment every night. Raymond starts the night at 7pm to get you warmed up for the bands at 8:30pm. All the staff here are excellent. Sorry to anyone I missed mentioning. We love this resort and will be back again.

This resort is amazing! Food and drinks are top quality. The employees are attentive and very outgoing. All rooms are ocean view with a tub on the balcony. There are sea turtles down the beach and a few shops worth visiting. Only complaint is the distance from the airport, not so bad if you do your own transfer. The resort is on the smaller side so you can easily distance from others during covid. Highly recommended!

Hotel was nice and staff was excellent. Buffet food was OK but the restaurant food was amazing. Bar service was superb. The rooms could be nicer as the toilet area is not very private and some of the electrical outlets did not work. We got locked out of our room and they needed to fix our door lock and our room was not cleaned at all on one occasion. When we spoke to the front desk it took them a long time to get someone to clean it but it was finally done around 9pm that evening. The sliding door to our patio would not lock and I explained to front desk but it was never fixed. They need different locks on those sliding doors for sure.

Hotel and grounds were very nice. That beng said, there were hazard areas at the resort where there were loose boardwalk boards and sliippery areas. My wife slipped in the room coming out of the shower. There is a marble step as you leave the shower and she put her foot on it, slipped, fell, and broke her arm and 2 ribs. All this could have been avoided with anti slip strips which were in other locations. They did offer us a free week as compensation. Food was very good. Beach location was amazing.

Just got back from a great week at ABBWR (Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort) Awesome staff at all levels. Several staff even remembered us from 4 months ago!! Service and attention to detail all the way. Also, the largest aquarium at your disposal right off the beach. Dinners were great and the little touches like finger cloths to freshen before dinner, the unique welcome drink in each restaurant and the wonderful selection make a huge impression. Looking forward to booking our next visit in the fall

Great smaller resort that is not party central great for young families and people who want to have fun ,but not a million people beautiful beach and great entertainment during the evenings also very close for day trips.

Beautiful resort, grounds and the beach. Rooms are large and have beautiful ocean views, but there were some small maintenance issues - sliding door to the balcony was very hard to open, tv wasn’t working very well, shower was turning cold to hot within seconds. The food was good at the buffet, and there are four great restaurants. Fantastic yoga studio with great instructors and a gorgeous ocean view.

Everything about this resort is amazing - attentive staff, great food and drinks. You can swim with tropical fish and turtles from the resort’s beach - no excursion necessary. Like many people that go to this resort, we are repeat visitors and we will definitely be back!!

Akumal Bay is a nice small resort with all the amenities. Rooms: All rooms have a view of the ocean and are quite large, clean and well maintained. Cleaning was done daily and bar fridge replenished. Food: Although the buffet is small there was always a good selection for everyone. Beach sushi bar is excellent as well as the 4 A la Carte restaurants (no reservations required). Staff: This is where the resort really shines. All staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I'm terrible with names so I can't really point out anyone in particular who went above and beyond but service was always fast and friendly Activities: Not a large amount of activities to do compared to big resorts but the beach was beautiful and great for snorkelling (turtles and fish are right in this bay).

This was our second trip to this wonderful resort and we are considering returning next fall for our third. It has everything you could desire. You can exercise daily, relax by the pool or beach, participate in yoga, volleyball, Pilates, spa, pool exercises, paddle boards, snorkel, etc. It’s your choice to do whatever you want. The food is exceptional at both the buffet and the a la carte restaurants. The staff are the “best”. The rooms are very well appointed and every room faces the ocean.

Great beach hotel with views -our room (in the 4000 block) was a few minutes walk from reception but literally 25 metres from the sand Great choice with loungers in the busy snack bar area, beds by the pool or along the quieter sections of beach The free snorkelling on the hotel beach with coral reef and turtles eating grass in the shallows was an AMAZING bonus. For better coral and fish, swim out a few hundred metres and it was incredible!. Rise and Shine and Hatha Yoga classes were really good, lasted over an hour and lots of ability levels catered for. Aquafit good fun at 11am daily and keeps you from feeling guilty! cocktail and waitresses in main bar very good; live music to 10:30-11pm every night had good atmosphere; more suited to 40+ ages Downside: service at breakfast in main buffet not so good; not very organised and waiting ages for coffee. Rooms very plain and ordinary, but clean Food overall very good. LIMA restaurant menu a bit restricted and wished Pelican snack bar had cold cut sandwiches and baguettes as a bit limited to fried options. Would recommend - loved it all!

This visit was our 5th in 3 years to this resort. I think that tells it all. It is perfect for us. Small with just 300 rooms all facing the ocean. Each room has a balcony with a 2 person hot tub! The staff is amazing. Kind and eager to serve you. The food and drinks are delicious. 4 al a carte restaurants and reservations are not required. The buffet also serves a large variety of great food. Snorkeling from the beach is the highlight of the vacation. Turtles, stingrays, lots of colourful fish and even the odd barracuda. Can't wait to return.

The location was great. Yes took awhile to get there from the airport but well worth it. Small resort offers a Big Bang for your buck. Snorkeling amazing!! Beach prestine! Food good with lots of variety. Rooms very clean

We were extremely excited about visiting this resort as the reviews were excellent. However, it, unfortunately did not live up to these reviews. We have travelled for 30 years and perhaps we have become too spoiled but we certainly expect good service at any 4 star resort. We booked with another couple and requested the same bldg but upon arrival were put in opposite ends of the resort. So, after discussions with 3 front desk staff, we were moved but had to wait until after 3pm the next day. The day after that our toilet broke. 3 times through the week, we had to search for toilet paper as housekeeper was not replenishing. The same for shampoo, twice. We leave a $3us tip every day under the pillow but after 3 days we stopped. One positive thing I can say is that the beds are very comfortable. The buffet staff, other than Carlos in the a/c dining room ( who was excellent), left much to be desired. On Carlos’ day off, I couldn’t find a server so had to pour my own coffee. The food in the buffet was just ok. A lot of mushy weird looking casseroles. The beach was nice, seaweed was cleared quickly and efficiently, but there is quite a few rocky areas. I would recommend water shoes. The biggest disappointment for we Canadians is that there was no good Canadian rye whiskey. This resort didn’t even have Canadian Club which is pretty much a standard in most resorts but this resort only had LTD rye which is complete swill. The grounds are kept beautifully and the pools very clean. There is no way that this resort should be rated a 5 star, we could give it a 3.5. I would recommend to the managers to watch their staff in terms of customer service because as soon as your backs are turned work ethic stops. The couple we travelled with stayed at this resort 2 yrs ago and loved it which is why we elected to go this year, however with the mediocre food and the seriously lacking service, none of us would return.

Great resort lay out smaller with a very relaxing feel ! The staff are what separate this resort from any other i have been too ! They are amazing at meeting any request you may have . It is a great resort with the most amazing staff. Sadly with social media, it has become well known and is very busy and hard to get a reservation now without booking months ahead. There is also a much larger European number of guests now also because of this. Sadly the majority of these people are heavy smokers. Spoke to the resort about making a smoking and non smoking section because of this and they are considering it as I was not the only person to raise this concern. These people are smoking on the patios which makes the non smoker or those sensitive to cigarette smoke have to keep their patio door closed and miss the sound of the crashing waves. A big part of the ambiance of this resort with all rooms facing the ocean front. Other than the above, it is an amazing resort with amazingly hard working staff who remember you from year to year.

We loved this resort. We loved the food, the staff are all super friendly, the beach is beautiful and there is a reef right off the beach so the snorkeling is great! Istanbul smaller and more intimate so we loved that about it and our room looking into the ocean was amazing. Only great things to say about akumal bay beach and wellness resort!

This hotel did not disappoint. From it’s picturesque landscapes to it’s well maintained property and incredibly friendly staff this was a vacation we will never forget. Be sure to visit Juan at the excursions desk, he was beyond helpful with informing us about the area and recommending some unforgettable experiences. We will certainly be back Akumal Bay! 😍

I had awesome sound meditations at this resort. Rene Najera led the meditations with a wide variety of instruments that guided me to a deeply relaxed and peaceful state. He created sound harmonies with his Tibetin singing bowls, a gong, a Didgeridoo, a kalimba, a handpan drum, chimes as well as his voice. I suffer from insomnia and the evening sound meditations left me feeling grounded and calm and I slept really well. I attended all the sessions I could. They are offered 6 days a week and there is no charge for attending and you just show up, you don't need to sign up to reserve a spot. Many thanks Rene!

We had a great time, the hotel is clean, the staff is friendly and the food was great. The ocean and sandy beach are amazing so we spent most of our days there. There is live entertainment every night and the lighting and ambience added to our experience..I really have nothing bad to say about Akumal Bay wellness resort.

Our stay at Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort was fantastic! The staff were friendly, the resort was clean, food was great, beach was amazing! I am already looking at rates to return...the snorkelling was amazing, lots of different fish to see right at the beach and of course the majestic sea turtles. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy from yoga to volleyball, paddle boarding, and painting. The little town at the end of the beach is perfect for a little shopping and a beverage. Superb resort!

The grounds are well kept and very clean, room is spacious and beautiful ocean views, staffs are fantastic, they truly care with a smile on their face, the beach is nice and wide. Just returned 3 days ago, this was our second visit and I am impressed at how the level of cleanliness and professionalism of staff is so consistent. Four buildings which all face the water, spacious, clean, well appointed rooms with a patio or balcony. Beautiful sand beach and sandy ocean bottom once you get out a few feet. The staff are truly amazing! We have travelled to many places and I will admit that the staff here are the friendliest and most helpful we have come across. With the combination of all these things it makes Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort the perfect place for a vacation, you will not be disappointed. The only down side to this trip was returning to a snow storm.

What can I say that hasn’t been said. This resort ticks all the boxes. It is so well run and well staffed that every detail is taken care of. This is such a comfortable resort in every way - the ultimate in relaxation. This was our 3rd vacation here in 6 years. We will be back.

This was my 3rd visit to this fabulous hotel. It just gets better each visit; making me want to return again. The staff are friendly, helpful and very polite. You will always have a wide variety of delicious food and drinks to choose from; either from the buffet , snack bar, and numerous bars inside and out. No reservations required at the a la carts. They have lots of activities each day; its hard to choose just one. The resort is extremely clean; staff always working. The beach was spectacular with soft sand and great snokelling. You'll see plenty of fish and turtles. No issues finding beach chairs. People do get up very early to save the beds by the main pool. Great evening shows with live bands nightly. If you want to relax and destress; this is the place for you.

The resort itself was beautiful but found the spa prices extremely high as well as our rooms were not ready for check in when we arrived and we had to wait over an hour to get some of the rooms, it was a nice feature to see the turtles hatch thou

This was a beautiful resort with ok food and decent staff. Room service was good it was very clean. The restaurants were a let down the buffet was decent. Best part was seeing the baby turtles hatch. Wedding site was pretty.

This resort was so beautiful from the time we arrived to the time we departed! Our family had 13 people stay at this resort and the staff was amazing at accomedating all of us. Mariel and Ayleen from kids vlub were fantastic with our 2 youngest girls who are 3 and 4. All the though were super friendly and always willing to help in any way possible. The restaraunts on the resort were delicious and the buffet was great too. Best was having the snack bar and sushi bar right by the pools and beach. We didnt even have to get out of our swim suites. The ocean at this part of the beach was amazing! Clear water and not alot of rocks and seaweed. Also didn't smell weird at the water. When we went for walks along the beach other resorts had a smell at the water. We went snorkeling and saw turtles, stingrays, many types of fish and coral. It was amazing! There is always something to do here. The resort has scheduled events all the time, it was GREAT!!! Our entire family loved this resort and hopes to go back soon!

Couldn't ask for any more out of a hotel. The staff is exceptional - friendly, hospitable and knowledgeable. Excellent entertainment nightly. Every room has an oceanview and is spacious. The food is amazing - healthy options are available as well! I recommend this hotel highly.

This resort was listed as a hidden gem and it certainly was. It had everything you could want if you are looking for a quieter kid friendly mid sized resort with good food great staff comfortable rooms and direct access from beach to snorkeling heaven. Can’t wait to return!

Beautiful view from everyone room, staff very nice and respectful, seaweed was awful but didn't ruin it for us, was worth having the wind to keep the heat bearable. Loved the food, one of the best vacations ever

We were a little skeptical from the glowing reviews but WOW were we impressed! Buffet and restaurants were amazing! Bars everywhere with Premium drinks that are not watered down and cheerily filling our bubba thermoses. Am a chocoholic and had the best chocolate desert at Limas! Dark chocolate and white chocolate with green macha powder artistically presented on the dish! Yikes was so good! Buffet was a foodies dream! Room was spacious and clean. Were without hot water for one day...not a big deal. Sargassum is a problem throught most of the carribean however our Akumal resort had full time crews cleaning it up so beach was not as bad as it could have been. We have been to most of the islands in the Caribbean but at Akumal from april 22 to april 29th we honestly had the best week at a resort ever. Marco the buffet and restaurant manager was very accomodating and made us feel so welcome. Staff was always cheery and never made us feel unwelcomed. We are planning on going back this November with 2 other couples!

Just got back from Air Transat trip to Akumal Bay resort and wellness centre. The place was extremely clean and the food was amazing. We stayed on 3rd floor which they call the penthouse with private roof top jaccuzi tub. Two lounge chairs and an umbrella and you got a great quiet place to unwind. Beach was nice but unfortunately it was difficult to go into water as the large amount of kelp/ seaweed floating up on to beach. They work super hard all day cleaning it up but seems like a never ending job. Weather was sunny hot and very windy. One main pool with only sun beds around it chairs all down on beach so we stay alot up on our roof top retreat. There's another smaller pool 4 buildings we were in building three which was perfectly located. I would recommend up grading to the penthouse room . It's a very quiet and relaxing resort . There were lots of weddings. We saw 6 in the one week we were there. They make sure your mini fridge is stocked every day. Quality alcohol. It was a perfect vacation I really needed it! It's a bit of a drive from Cancun airport, a little over an hour. If you like small resorts with really good food and drinks this place would be for you!

Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort is an excellent choice for a very relaxing. yet entertaining vacation. It offers something for everyone in the family. I loved that I could do Yoga and Meditation and Sound Healing. We swam and snorkeled every day. The meals were spectacular from either the buffet or other select restaurants at the resort as well. The Staff is second to none, always courteous and anxious to be of assistance.Our agent Laura Mulvihill-Spry picked this beautiful Gem for us and we thoroughly appreciated her knowledge. The beach was pristine. All of the rooms face the water and each provide a balcony for delicious sunrises and gentle melodies as a live band entertains in the main gathering place. There are also public swimming pools and hot tubs available. Just an all around clean, friendly, great place to enjoy some well deserved R and R....Bonnie M.
