Just the right size with great facilities, rooms, restaurants, and pools. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The timing was a little off as there was a lot of seaweed on the beach for the first few days but the pools were great and never too crowded.

We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely spacious room we received. Even though we requested two beds we were fine with the one large one. Pools, atmosphere and really everything was perfect. Tony and Gastavo went above and beyond with the extracurricular activities. We had so much fun doing watercolor and volleyball with these two. They made Aqua Aerobics really fun and yoga was perfect. Our but is the service was lacking extremely long waits once seated in the restaurant (Japanese one inparticular) 1 hr wait for any food. We woukd ask for a drink they woukd forget ask again and still not get anything. The day pool and beach bar had one staff and the waits were far too long and sometimes they were there and sometimes not. Didn't know how long would be gone. The fast food restaurant ran out of plates daily. Again one guy who looked like he hated his job and we ended up giving up everyday to try to get something from there. Forget about getting a drink at the buffet you were finished your meal by the time anyone came around. Same with the coffee shop one oetson to service everyone in the morning. Also ypu shoukd have someone vlean uo the seaweed at first we did but then seemed they just gave up. This place could be a 5 star if you just got the staff.

We just got back from sens rivera tulum and I have to say what a beautiful resort , the grounds is gorgeous lots of walk way etc , its a small resort more on the quiet side what we liked , there is entertainment in the evening.. there was i believe 8 restaurants you dont need reservations which worked well for us..The food was good too not the best but ok..buffet had everything you need..The beach is beautiful except its a rocky beach we were wearing water shoe to go in the ocean but was so beautiful to see the fishes the water was clear...we had an amazing time ..the employees was very helpful and kind the coffee shop had delicious coffee whatever you need you could get it...our room was updated we had no problem ..the beach is small so we had to get up every morning at 620 to make sure we got our chairs for the day at the beach ⛱️..was hilarious but we did it , over all good resort we love it.

-grounds, site, buildings, nice and clean,recently renovated. -good variety of food and buffet, and specialty restaurants. Only the japanese restaurant was disappointing, as it was on a patio outside of the buffet area, but, food was good. -nice coffee and snack shop, poolside snacks was good. -entertainment was only 2 nights a week, all others were karioke nights. -room air conditioners were strange, preset to 16.5 degrees, no matter what you set the thermostat at. Was way too cold in the room, so, we shut it off.

Hotel is old and let go to ruins. Room was clean though. Food was considered average. Front desk service was terrible. Never answered to our request. On day of departure we asked for a wake up call at 5 AM and we never received a wake up phone call. Bar tender service left to be desired as we were often told that they were out of requested liquor (poor all inclusive feature) This is an absolute deception. Transportation to arport was sheduled for 6:30 AM and Sunwing flight was delayed and we were not informed. Transportation arrived at 8:55 AM.

Beautiful grounds, close to the beach...needs some updates, friendly people. Smaller resort...good food at the ala carte restaurants, buffet had smaller selections....but that's all I needed... We all know of the sargassim hitting the caribbean sea...the workers kept up with removing it. Overall the 5 of the 7 days was very manageable... 2 days seemed higher....

We travelled with another couple and we all loved the food, drinks, facility, staff and want to return, the only thing we didn’t like was the time it took to get there on the bus but it was worth it!

The resort was great. The rooms were a little dated and could have used shower curtains and a curtain on the bathroom window. Otherwise, everything was fine. >We're particularly interested in hearing how things were adapted due to COVID19. The guests were not masked, which I have no problem with. But some of the staff (waiters, bartenders) were. It wasn't even the entire staff. This seems needlessly discriminatory although I guess it may not have been the resorts choice but rather Mexican regulations for food handlers? I prefer seeing my waiter's face. People that don't want to see a local waiter's face, but have no issue with seeing a fellow guest's (coming from potentially anywhere in the world), should probably not travel.

Overall I enjoyed this resort. I thought it met the expectations of a 4-star resort. The food was really good. Many thanks to the manager of the buffet restaurant, Jesus for your hospitality.... they accommodated to my vegetarian diet by making me customized meals (but you do have to order a day before for vegetarian). For the beach beds you do have to claim them by 7am. The water is nice but you do need water shoes because it's quite rocky. There's lots of fish and the water is a comfortable temperature. There was no seaweed on the beach on our trip in December. Our room was the Jungle Room near Dino Land so it was ~10 min walk to the beach but I didn't mind it (although other travelers we talked to, didn't like it and had upgraded their rooms to be closer to the beach). We had rm#1123 & I thought it was a nice room but it's only suited for a couple because there is a semi-transparent glass partition between the shower and the beds. So if you're traveling with your dad for example, ask for a room where you can't see them shower lol. The drinks were great. Try the tequila boom boom shot. All the workers/staff were kind and extremely hard-working!!

Hotel was a nice size not too big not too small. Really liked the yoga daily, the beach was great with the coral reef it was not too strong a current. Food was excellent and the 24 hour cafe was one of our favorite places.

The grounds were very clean and elegant. There is a Dino land with huge animals and pool for kids and a chip truck. There is also another kids pool with pirates and a BBQ pot and a swim up bar for kids. Very cute. Our rooms were clean and lots of pools and chairs , beach was excellent for snorkeling. Staff was very friendly

Hotel was beautiful and the main desk always manned with several employees. The check in was great and the next day we had to upgrade to Sun club as we found several restaurants were sun club only and we didn't like the fact we had no balcony. The grounds were really clean and food good and staff excellent.

I traveled to this resort in November with my sister. We upgraded to sunclub. We really enjoyed this resort. The staff, food and service was exceptional. The room was clean and spacious. The sheets and towels were changed daily. The drinks in the bar fridge were replenished daily. There were plenty of chairs and Bali beds around the pools but limited on the beach. The only real negative feed back is the strong perfume scent in the lobby and the lack of entertainment during the day around the pools on the sunclub side.

The resort was nice but definitely not a full 4 star. The rooms were dated but they are renovating the old ones. We stayed in an ocean front king and it had a nice view. No balcony. Minimal furniture in the room. Food was meh. My partner got very very sick for 4 days. I was fine. The beach is great. The snorkeling is amazing - bring your snorkel and mask. Lots of fish right off the beach and a nice reef further out. No free shuttle to any town which most resorts have. Staff were generally friendly. The buffet sucked so try the restaurants instead. Sometimes long lines but go at the non peak hours. We got to see turtle releases down the beach 3 nights which was great. We were in room 2218 at the end of the resort. Very very loud due to the storage closet right outside the door and the cleaning people there at 7 am. The vacation club sales people try to lure you in with their 200$ resort credits. But it’s not cash. It’s more buy 100$ in wine and save 30$ kind of coupons. They will also try to get you to listen to their sales pitch at secrets resort for some free stuff like massages or cash to spend at the resort. If you have extra time why not. You get better food at secrets and a nice tour but it will take 3 hrs of your day. Lots of kids. Lots of em. Takes 1.5 hrs to get there from the airport so bring a drink on the shuttle. We went with sunwing. Less than impressed with them but the hotel was good for a 3.5+ star resort. If you’re a foody…don’t go here. I’m not a foody but did notice a lack of selection and quality :) no guacamole. No French fries. My staple foods.. The soups are good! The bread bowl mushroom soup at the pizza place is great. The fresh omelette at the buffet is good. The fruit crepe at portofino a was good. I don’t eat meat so limited options. Most all inclusive buffets have a pasta station you can pick your own ingredients. This one didn’t. And did I mention no guacamole!! Oh also NO CHURROS!! . The whole reason to go to Mexico ;)

The hotel is a mediocre hotel. The food at certain restaurants was always cold. However the room we had which was an upgrade was spacious and very nice. The beach is mostly a reef which was amazing for anyone who loves to snorkel however hard to walk into because of either the rocks or sharp coral pieces. You definitely need water shoes or like myself I wore my flippers.

We are a family of 4 and got a spacious room, with all amenities in the hotel. Although the room we got was not luxury, all the required needs and services were there for us. The reception facility was, at the initial stage, giving quite dull and darker feelings; but it was well-organized and the process of registration was quite fast. The recently renovated hotel premises, with white buildings and over 5 spacious well-maintained swimming pools for adults, family and kids, including sea-facing one, certainly gives a wonderful look and makes a wonderful spot for vacationers of all ages. Our one week all-inclusive stay in the 1st half of August was amazing and memorable for the kids and us, due to mainly the extremely friendly hotel staff, breath-taking sea beach with great coral lives, delicious food and beverages, wonderful day-long cultural programmes and activities for all ages, and sea-turtle conservation site on the beach. We got an opportunity to witness around hundred of just hatched baby-turtles were making their way from the hatched place on the hotel beach to the sea at night - amazing feelings for all of us. The hotel staff also cleans sea weeds that did not create any problem to us during using the beach and swimming. The hotel price was also best value for money.

We absolutely loved our stay. We have come to admire a smaller property closer to the beach with less walking. We upgraded to the Sunscape pool area with outdoor tub! Woke up to birds and iguanas daily - a peaceful paradise. We had no kids with us, but the kids area were vast and several with Dino and pirate theme and an arcade. One of the things I most enjoyed was no braclets and no a la carte bookings. First Come First Serve and no disappoints. Did I mention the SPA! You deserve it. Special shout of the friendly staff, Uriel was very helpful, SPA staff amazing WINE CELLER DINNER SERVICE, Roberto and Marcello top shelf.

We highly recommend this resort. All Staff was absolutely amazing! A special shout out to Rodrigo the assistant Food and Beverage Manager. He went above and beyond all our expectations by far! We travel every year and this resort has been by far the best staff wise. It is a very clean resort and is very careful with covid. Food was excellent. We will definitely be going back to this resort without question.

This is a budget friendly resort and one that you get what you pay for. If you are expecting amazing food, beautiful rooms - look elsewhere. But as a family with younger kids we had a great experience. Room - we booked a partial ocean view room and did not upgrade to the sun club. Our room was not great (aside from the view that was awesome). The bathroom had a terrible smell. The shower and glass looked dirty (I tried to wipe it down and it was clean just looked dirty). The rooms were very dated. The last day I found mould on the bed skirt (I would have moved if I found that earlier). Food - the food was okay. This is not a five star resort so we got what we expected. We could always find something we would eat at the buffet. Since the hotel is at 60% capacity the a la carte restaurants did not require a reservation and they were all fantastic. The pool side grille and the coco cafe were the best features. It is right beside the pool and my kids could eat whenever they wanted. It was quick and convenient and didn’t require us getting them changed into dry clothes. Resort- There are a lot of pools but many of them require an upgrade to the sun club. The main and kids pool were where it was at anyways. The entertainment staff were great (and not annoying). The kids loved the games and so did we. The beach was nice and everything is a 5 min walk from your room. There are quite a few large rocks in the water but the snorkelling is amazing. The Rex Dino Land is also a really cool feature but it is the only thing that is far from the main resort. It required a golf cart and we had to wait a long time when we called to have a golf cart take us back. Also note that the jungle view rooms are located in Rex Dino land and far from the main resort. Staff - the front desk staff are awful and not helpful. We are also pretty sure one of them took our iPad. My son set his iPad down and we walked away. We noticed within 30 min and went to the front desk to ask and they immediately said no (didn’t make any inquiries just no). The second time we asked they called the security desk and then said no and the third time they said to come back in a few hours and security would review the footage. That was the day before we left and we came back multiple times but security never got around to reviewing it. We had a few other inquiries and were met with dismissive unhelpful attitudes. The rest of the resort staff were amazing. So friendly and welcoming. My kids loved Carlos at the kids swim up bar and the staff at the buffet would always laugh and joke with them. The night time shows were decent with the best one being the fire show. All in all we had a good vacation. We felt they did a great job sanitizing and ensuring the resort was safe. We would come back if the price was right but it’s not a resort we would recommend to family or friends.

Very good hotel for this price. Very good beach, grounds, food good, the rooms are good but second and third floors no balconies. Service very good. Entertainment normal. For me very nice that almost no insects.

Beautiful resort, the staff were friendly and always helpful. The food was great. Only downside was no balconies. The beach was amazing, lots of beach chairs and always towels available. Drinks were good.

Spent 1 week with our 4yr old and 8month. Kids Club was amazing - highly recommend. Our 4yr old begged to go and he had an amazing time. Bernice was so friendly and really made him feel comfortable, and also made us feel comfortable leaving him there. But for being a kids focused resort, improvements are needed. Buffet should open earlier than 6pm, more highchairs are needed for sure as they were always scrambling to find one. Dinoland was awesome, a hidden gem really. But it should also open earlier - we went at 9:30am on our last day and it was not yet open. The beach was beautiful , we spent most of our time there and also the kids pool. We had a deluxe tropical view room - nothing fancy , definitely dated but we don’t spend time in the room other than sleeping, so it served its purpose. The resort seems very dated and needs some upgrades. Overall we had a great week, kids had a blast. But we would not go back.

Check in was a breeze (sun club ), room was very nice, beds were super comfortable. Our room was sunclub pool view, it had a French balcony, so we could not sit on it, but we could open the window and allow a nice breeze into the room. We had zero problems with anything in the room. The wifi is great at this resort, strong signal everywhere and that includes the beach area. The beach is narrow but beautiful and you can walk it for miles. Snorkelling is amazing two feet off the beach, lots of fish to see and a couple of resident stingrays that hang out around the fishing boats. The kids pool area and Dinoland are very well done. Grandkids loved it. Food quality and selection were very good. We tried almost all of the restaurants (we did not go to Tiki taco) and were not disappointed. The buffet is very good and has something for everyone. Did not go hungry at this resort. Coco Cafe is a gem, great snacks and amazing cappuccino coffees. Entertainment was good, we enjoyed the Urban show, the Fire show and the Circus. The staff here is truly wonderful and will do everything in their power to ensure you have a great worry free vacation. This is not a five star resort, but it is a good four star, great value for your money and the staff are wonderful.

The Sunscape Akumal has many great qualities, such as, no arm bands, no requirement to pre-book restaurant sittings, well maintained facility. Only confusion was that when we booked it showed as a Sunclub King with Balcony, however we recd a sliding door with a railing ( no balcony ).

Sunscape Akumal - the good and the bad. Let’s start with the travelers be aware the pictures you see advertised are mostly from the Sun Club area of the resort. The beautiful pools, sun beds – all for Sun Club only. Which is an upgrade. If you do not get the upgrade you get one small pool with not enough lounge chairs and very crowded small part of the beach. Don’t even bother asking for bottled water that’s for Sun Club only. The rooms are nice. We had aunts in our bathroom so they had to fumigate. Food was good – but I am not a picky eater. Coco café was the best. If you are coming with kids they have great kids area and programs. Evening entertainment was also good. All the staff work very hard and are very pleasant. Because of the restrictions I will not be returning. My suggestion to the resort – please give guests spoons when serving coffee at the buffet. With all this said we still had a nice vacation - how can you not when Toronto had -30 C.

Arrived at the property in the late evening and was not offered a welcome drink and hot towel that was included at check in. Was given a room in Dino land that was a mile away from the ocean. However we did get a room change so that was nice. My main concern and reason why I will not recommend or return to this resort is that when yousee the photos and read the package description has it included 5 pools and and use of the beach. When we arrived we were told that we could not use the bulk of the hotel because we were not sunclub members ($100 pn extra) so we could use 1 pool and be on a small portion of beach. So this being high season you need to be up at dawn to find a spot on the beach let alone the pool. All the buildings are glassed in do there is no breeze. Asked the bartender for a bottle of water . Bar tender poured me a glass of water and said the bottle water was for sunclub only. Lints of signs sunclub only it’s crazy.

When reading other reviews prior to leaving I was a little nervous. There really is nothing to complain about. The beach was beautiful, the food was good and the wine was even better. The best part of this resort was the staff. They went out of their way to try to accommodate you in any way that they could. If they could do something for you they would. The only complaint I would personally have is that the resort is a little on the small side.

Don’t hesitate! Book today!! This resort is everything and more! We upgraded to the sun club and were blown away! The staff was so accommodating and friendly. The resort was clean, inviting and better than we could ever imagine. The food was another story. It was very fresh and exceptionally prepared and presented. Very high end quality overall!

The hotel itself is definately not new. it is however clean. staff are great . service excellent and minimal wait times at the resaurants despite soe of the other reviews. the beach is amazing and many beautiful pools. food is average. We travelled with kids who loved the kids club and dinoland. would go again

Jan. 7, 2020, Grandma, mom, and two children stayed at the Sunscape Akumal spa and resort for a wonderful week...I have no idea why this resort is getting so many poor reviews...we had a sun club room with a balcony overlooking the pool, and had no complaints....until the third day there was a bathroom issue in the suite...after reporting it, the manager escorted us to a new room......the presidential suite..he sent a bottle of Champaign to our room and special treats for the kids as well as chocolate covered strawberries for all, and upon the last day checkout is 12 noon, and he told us just to stay as late as we needed. The beach was beautiful, green, clean and full of beautiful tropical fish..dinosaur land was great for the kids and they loved going to kids club...plenty of food, and drinks, I think this is one of the most kid friendly resorts I have been to even prior to the room upgrade

Grounds well maintained. Rooms were nice, staff super helpful and friendly. Food was nice. Should have kept lobby bar open after 11pm. Could use more entertainment. Beach was nice and clean for swimming with young children.

Great beaches super close to the resort. Lots of cabanas available. Pools were cold but the ocean was warm. Just to the left of the beach is tied pools with tons of beautiful fossilized coral. Buffet and restaurants were good. Wait times vary depending on time you go. Buffet was okay but was a bit repetitive after 4 or 5 days. Resort is 1.5 hours from the airport. Rooms were nice but no privacy between bathroom and bedroom- separate by a non locking clear glass door. Staff worked long shifts and weren't overly friendly but service was okay. They do need to have more high chairs and cribs available.

We recently returned from a one week vacation at Sunscape Akumal Beach Resort. While the resort was advertised as new when we booked, it is actually an older resort that was taken over by Sunscape. The food was good, although the buffet did get a bit monotonous by the end of the week, but that is generally the case with most all inclusives. We quite enjoyed the pizzeria and the Italian restaurant. We had booked an oceanfront room and were disappointed that there was no balcony and although the view is spectacular, the windows don't open, so no fresh air and nowhere to hang your clothes to dry. I would say that oceanfront is kind of a waste of money, unless you got a ground floor room which had a terrace that you could walk right out to the beach. What made the trip for us was the staff. Everyone was very pleasant, but as special shout out to Noeli at the Coco Cafe who made excellent specialty drinks and was extremely sweet to everyone. As well, Gerardo C. at the buffet also made the trip special by making an effort to learn our names and remember our drinks and also pay extra attention to our 9 and 11 year old kids. He always had a friendly smile when we came in. All in all, a great family vacation. We would definitely return.

Food: buffet is very good, even though as with most buffets, there are similar items served daily; men are not allowed in wearing a sleeveless shirt, swim suits are allowed as long as a cover up is worn. We were at 3 of the 4 a la Carter’s, where the food is delicious...(be prepared for a 2 hour dinner in the Greek or Italian). Men must wear long pants, even if it’s blue jeans or sweat pants, but women can wear pretty much anything (very short shorts observed on 1 occasion), Men are allowed entrance to the outdoor portion of the restaurant wearing shorts, but we did see the occasional man allowed in the indoor portion wearing shorts pants, but we were turned away for my husband wearing knee length shorts...Inconsistent dress code. Room. Our room in building D was clean, close to the beach, buffet, lobby. Partial ocean view description is a stretch. Beds & pillows were comfy, good shower. Staff: very friendly & helpful. BEWARE...You’re greeted at checkin with champagne by a nice helpful staff member who will take you aside for a few minutes & offer you spa coupons, etc & invite you to a “delicious breakfast” at Secrets Akumal, just down the road. When asked if he was selling time shares we were told a definite NO, that they do not believe in them that they are promoting the hotel brand, We declined the offer, much to his chagrin, only to learn from other guests that they are indeed selling shares in the Sunscape chain. Our host barely made eye contact with us after we again refused his offer on our second day. Beach: beach is good, lots of chairs. Certain spots are reserved for SunClub guests. The water has lots of rocks, so SWIM SHOES ARE A MUST if you plan on going in the ocean. Pool: we didn’t spend any time is the family pools, but they are spacious with lots of play areas for toddlers & young children. The beach buffet serves decent food & drinks. Gym: well equipped but way too hot for a gym in spite of a/c & fans which are. It always turned on; 6 treadmills, bike, weights, etc. Coca Cafe: open 24/7, good lattes, pastries, sandwiches, ice cream, popcorn.. Entertainment: in the theatre (seating is not tiered) is pretty much non-existent & starts at 8:30pm, a bit early if having a late dinner. Most entertainment is karaoke in the Starlight lounge; the lobby often has a pianist or saxophonist playing for an hour or so. Shops: the gift shop is small, barely supplying necessities, but decent souvenirs. There is a jewelry store on the premises. Outside vendors (jewellery, clothing, hats, souvenirs, etc) set up 2-3 times per week in the hallway between the buffet & Coco Cafe. There are no beach vendors.

When we booked we were looking for a small resort, with a nice beach. We have stayed in large resorts in the past and disliked the excessive noise, having to take shuttles to the beach so this time we wanted smaller, close to beach and pool. The first thing are the grounds. Lush and tropical, well maintained. Next the staff were incredibly nice. Next, every irritation about the big resorts were gone. No wristbands, no pool cards. Always fresh towels rolled in the towel caddy, you took what you needed and returned whenever. With kids this is a plus. There were ample chairs in the shade, anytime of day pool or beach. If you wanted a specific spot, you’d need to stake it out early but otherwise there was always a chair. It was quiet. No obnoxious music and people trying to get you to participate when you were trying to relax and rest. Naps on the beach were the best. They sold fish food to feed the many schools of tropical fish that frequented the beach waist deep. Around noon on calm days a stingray would come for a visit. Many people ventured out where the waves were breaking on the reef and saw brain and fan corals and many more fish. Sea turtles hatched on the beach at night and made their way to the water, you could see the tracks in the morning. The food was good at the buffet, the restaurants were great. You didn’t need a reservation, just showed up and they seated you. My only thing was the kids club (which we didn’t use as we wanted to maximize our family time) would have activities like face painting only inside the club walls. You had to sign a waiver which meant if you weren’t comfortable with your young children near the pool, they couldn’t participate in the activities. Overall experience was great. I would recommend to families with young children looking for a quiet and relaxing time without too much fanfare.

Was advertised as a newly renovated hotel and it was still under renovations. Very disappointing. Beach lounge chairs were so uncomfortable, never went back to the beach. Food was fair. Employees were friendly and most willing to help.

The resort is advertised as New, but in reality it is one of the oldest resorts in the Mayan Rivera (over 30 years old). It has changed hands recently, and they are calling it new. We had a fair amount of rain, and many of the main rooms were leaking badly. ie: plastic buckets in the lobby, and some of the restaurants. The whole experience was OK, but definitely not 5 STARS. Nice Beach, and Very Friendly Staff. Would we go back to this resort?..... definitely not

This resort is under new management and it's obvious. Service was slow, the resort was under-staffed, and a number of things that would be relatively minor on their own added up to make for a less than perfect stay. I will say that the beach is lovely and the pools are amazing. Those get 5 stars. Most of the staff were excellent: a shout out to Fabian, Mario, Paola and Dulce in the front desk, as well as Cesar at the pool bar and the guys from the lobby bar and the sun club lounge (sorry I forgot your names but you were always smiling and friendly). We were one of the suckers who paid extra for an ocean front room that had no balcony or window that opened. The view was gorgeous but otherwise it was like staying in a regular hotel with no fresh air, no sound of the ocean,no balcony, etc. That was disappointing but i understand they've clearly identified that on the website now so others will know what they are booking. I'd recommend booking an ocean view room instead - nicer, larger, better location and outdoor loungers and hot tub on your private balcony. The view of the ocean is slightly obstructed but still a better option overall. The issues: extremely slow service in restaurants, extremely slow housekeeping, in-room safe didn't work, no drink service on the beach, mini bar wasn't always re-stocked, but the tip money was always gone. One day they took the tip but didn't clean our room! A friend twisted her ankle while we were there and we asked to borrow a wheelchair. We were told by the front desk (after they spoke with the chief concierge, Luis) that we would have to pay for one and have it shipped from Playa del Carmen. After reminding them that she was injured on their property, they magically (and instantly) found one that she was able to use at no charge. I think it's been a rough opening for Sunscape Akumal and the team is overwhelmed, and therefore the resort is lacking the usual amazing service that you get from a resort in the Mayan Riviera. We expected that things would not be perfect - it's a newly refurbished resort under new management and just opened last month - but the place itself was disappointing. I heard a lot of people complaining so I don't think we were alone in our experience. Also, there are very limited options for vegetarians and items marked vegetarian on the menu (lime soup at tikki taco) came with chicken!!! Sunscape has some work to do to get this resort where it needs to be. Right now we wouldn't recommend this resort, but if they can get their act together i think in 6 months to a year it will be a fine vacation destination.

Nice beach, not crowded, people are nice, nice pools Rooms were not so good: - no balcony - drawers could not be open or closed (because of the moisture) - lights are not not positions and useless for shaving in the morning - glass door on the bathroom is not good idea Hotel has problem with water leaking in the halls and rooms when raining Last day nobody woke us up to catch the bus for the airport; it happened to few other rooms; explanation was that there was no paper, never mind that paper was written on when I booked alarm

Hi,18 of us came on October 17th to Sunscape Akumal Sun club and stayed for a week. Hotel has nice sandy beach but entry into water has sharp rocks ( hardened corals).Water is crystal clear. Maintaining beach is very poor,never seen anybody cleaning beach except accumulated sea weed . No one is cleaning around beach lounges that are old and fabric stretched so you could feel frame .Good thing is that they offer you and collect towels regularly .No guard rails on stairs to the beach, one man fell There is no sport activities or animation by the pool or on the beach.Also there is no entertainment except movie projected on the wall of hotel and disco that is too loud and near family section Hotel is advertised as new but in reality it is somewhat renovated.Main lobby and rooms are good, modern with wi-fi available throughout resort.Keeping it all clean is not the greatest. We had a lot of problems with room 2135 facing wall and open hallways looking into our room as well as having bolted doors to balcony that was non existing .There was no light bulb by bedside light,there was no working iron or slippers for sun club guests. We lost 3 days of beach and relaxing trying to fix that with sun club manager Lois.He was not ready to help with any issues.We asked to change room because I felt there was no privacy when you face open hallways and everyone going by can see in your room. Yes, there were some darkening curtains that didn't cover the whole window. Imagine that you had to close curtains every time you change or go to shower or bathroom, not very pleasant. By the way doors to bathroom and shower are glass and washroom and bath tub are together in one room. When we talked to Sun club manager Louis on second day of our stay, he said that there were no available rooms to change and yet we bypassed a group of 20-25 people waiting to get their rooms.His explanation was that they were booked and can-not give us new room, he treated us as ours was not booked. When I worked I was manager as well so I told him what was customer service, that first come get resolved problems first.I think he needs more management training with customer service and customer satisfaction to ensure customer coming and returning are satisfied. At the end after my demanding to change room 3rd day instead of 4th or sand me back with payed flight back home and full refund he offered another room the next day after 3 pm,which happened at 6:00-6:30 pm Another lost day of vacation,total 3 of 7 days staying. New room was not the greatest but was better than first one.What to say about service in the room?They started cleaning our room at 6:15 pm when we came to take shower and get ready for dinner. Beds were maid and floor cleaned but nothing else done. Bar fridge story is similar, not replenishing with soda water and beer what we asked for instead of coke,sprite and similar drinks full of sugar . On bright side, barmen by the pool on the beach and lobby were great,they were knowledgeable( the older ones), sorry didn't get their names but they were rewarded for their great service. Food choices and service was great in buffet.Food was also great at a la cart restaurants but slow service. We were group of 18 people, we paid the same price but some got great rooms with balcony and jacuzzi, some with just balcony and some with just basics like us plus with a lots of problems ( for the same money). In all honesty hotel needs more educating stuff and teaching them how to satisfy customers as well as to fix some problematic areas.
