Nice and huge resort
Explore Akumal is a big resort and gives you access to all other resorts in the Bahia Principe compound. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The beach area is better than other Mayan Riviera beaches. The a la carte choice is ample and good quality. Mixed drinks were pretty good as well and so were the evening shows. There are shuttles to take you from one resort to the other and they run pretty smoothly and regularly. O'Neil from Tripcentral was very helpful as usual in working with us to make sure the resort fulfilled our requirements.

Excellent a'lla carte restaurants!
Although construction was happening, the grounds are still stunning and lush. Pools are spectacular and clean and you never had to fight for a seat! Drinks were very generic and not great quality liquor even with hefty tipping. The bartenders were good. Room service (food choices) is where the quality and choices have drastically gone down. The house keeping team was excellent, the mini fridge needed to be requested for particulars. Buffets were mediocre , not nearly as much choice as last visit, breakfast always great. A'lla Carte Restaurants were outstanding . Would deffinitely return.

Wonderful resort - concerns about reduced services
The hotel grounds and services were amazing, as expected from other Bahia Principe visits in other countries. The one main issue was what it seems are reductions in services. Not sure if it's seasonal, or just during a slow period, but during our stay, the Akumal buffet was closed for dinners, and at our last night, the Tulum buffet was as well, and we ended up going to the Coba buffet which was a step down from what we'd expect staying at Akumal. We also noted that the snack shops would close early, and from past experiences, there would always be a spot that was open overnight in case you were hungry or missed dinner. We had no such options during our stay it seems. Otherwise, it's a wonderful location, staff were great, just the amount of services available seemed to be reduced. Not sure if it's due to external factors or due to declining visits from guests. It did seem the resort was well below normal occupancy, not busy at all.

Great experience in Bahía Príncipe Resort !
My sisters and I had a wonderful time together with the rest of the family. Great bonding , excellent service ! We had a chance to visit and explore each resort . Your staff are most polite and accommodating . My only dislike are the number of lizards we encountered and those animals with long tails that looked like cats and raccoons , I’m afraid of them ! Others , everything is excellent!

An ok resort if you are not a beach person
Overall: the resort is reasonably pleasant. Grounds are well maintained. I would give it a 3.5 stars. The Akumal area, where we were, had half of the villas closed and under huge renovation. This caused noise at the infinity pool and dusty, noisy walkways towards the rooms. Room: was clean but dated. It does need a refresh. Buffet food: buffet had good choices of food, with various themes for every night. Some of the servers, like Jose, were very attentive, courteous and prompt. Jose was friendly, funny and very helpful. A-la-carte dinners: we stayed for 10 days. While we were entitled to a-la-carte dinners every nigth, it was extremely hard to book anything even 8-9 days in advance. The resort had low occupancy yet, dinners were very hard to book. Some of the service desk curtousy staff (like Marco and Miquel) were helpful and tried to accomodate our requests, but very few requests were successful. Pools: clean and well maintained. Night programs: shows were poor quality, not really enjoyable. I’ve been to this resort a few times in the past and at that time the evening shows were nice quality, really enjoyable. This was not the case anymore. Also, after the show was over, there was not much to do. Beach: this resort is not famous for pristine, sandy beach. It was rocky sand, and the level of sargassum was high. The crew was working long hours to keep it clean. However, if you like a nice sandy beach, with clean water for swimming this is NOT the resort you should chose. I was a return guest at this report (have been there several times in the past) yet, I did not feel any appreciation for being a loyal customer. I did not expect much, just a tiny bit of extra customer service, especially that it was my birthday as well. Other that a "happy birthday" banner on our room, there was nothing special. Quite disappointed, since it is so easy to make a little surprise. Summary: vacation was OK, but I will not return to this resort anymore. Luckily there are many other choices to consider for future vacations.

Hyatt takes over, nothing better, and many things worse
My wife and I are retired and have been travelling to and from the Caribbean for most of our adult life. We used to view the Bahia Principe hotel in Akumal, Mexico, as one of the greatest values in terms of an all-inclusive resort or hotel. This hotel is one of 5 hotels situated on the same property: Sian Kaan, Akumal, Tulum, Coba, and the recently added Tequilla. Together they have access to each other’s properties, and use trolleys to regularly transport guests throughout the complex. Each hotel has its assortment of a la carte restaurants; a main buffet; snack bar; its own pools; and bars. The Bahia Principe hotel chain began a formal Loyalty program in early 2017, which replaced the informal incentives one could benefit from, if you were a repeat customer prior to 2017. My wife and I were married in 1989 and benefited from the many incentives offered and applied to each subsequent visit, well before their Loyalty Program began. With the introduction of their formal Loyalty Program in 2017, we opted in and travelled to Bahia Principe resorts and hotels, almost exclusively. We did so in hopes of reaching the Loyalty Program’s ultimate level: Black. In addition, we brought many family and friends with us to various Bahia Principe hotels throughout the years. This did not help us gain the Black status faster, but we truly enjoyed visiting these hotels, so we willingly recommended the Bahia Principe hotel chain to our family and friends. Our visit to a Bahia Principe hotel in April of 2025 marked our 22nd trip for my wife and I. And at the completion of this trip, we had successfully achieved the Black Level status, with 4 times as many visits required than that of the closest level (Gold). We were anxious to experience the new benefits that we would be entitled to, with our membership to “My Bahia” as Black members. So, for our 36th wedding anniversary (in September of 2025), we booked a trip to our favourite Bahia Principe lodging: The Bahia Principe Luxury Hotel in Akumal, Mexico. A few months later, we booked and paid for our trip. This was done through Trip Central, a travel agency based in Hamilton Ontario, since 1989. Up until recently, Trip Central has provided excellent service and took responsibility for the trips they booked for us. My wife and I took comfort in the fact that we were familiar with the layout of the hotel complex; our favourite a la carte restaurants; the pools and bars; and the many non-motorized watersport activities available. Then in early 2026 we received notice that the Bahia Principe hotel chain was changing ownership and would now be know as the World of Hyatt. The Loyalty program that was known as My Bahia, was “cancelled”. We were assured that we would be transferred to Hyatt’s incentive program and automatically become “Explorist” members of this plan. We did. We were promised that this change of ownership and management, would translate into bigger and better benefits for us. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our problems with Hyatt started well before we arrived at the hotel. We tried to log in and book our a la carte dinners as we always have, 10 days prior to our arrival. However, we could not gain access to the updated Hyatt program. I emailed virtually every valid email address that had been sent to us, via their various ‘notices’. I also called our travel agent, and the Customer Service lines for both the Bahia Principe hotel chain, as well as the World of Hyatt. No one was able to help us book our a la carte dinners. We even had our children help us try to sign into our new Hyatt account, thinking that our problems were based on operator error. Nothing worked, but we were repeatedly assured by Hyatt reps that the app was functioning properly. We were worried that there would be problems, and other unfulfilled promises on our upcoming trip, courtesy of the World of Hyatt. Before becoming Black members of their formal Loyalty Program, we received a number of benefits. It had become painfully apparent to us, that we would not be able to enjoy our upcoming trip with our long-awaited, Black member benefits. So, although we had faithfully and repeatedly attended only Bahia Principe hotels for the last 8 years, we were not going to enjoy, even a single trip with the benefits we were promised. Benefits that took us over 8 years to achieve. Further, the trip was filled with shortcomings, and we did not receive a number of things we had typically enjoyed prior to Hyatt taking over. Therefore, for the benefit of any future traveler to this hotel, my wife and I have prepared a point-form list of the things we experienced, in terms of products and services that we previously enjoyed, but were not provided during our stay. To be clear, these are not things that we would have enjoyed if our Black status was honoured. This is a list of the things any typical guest would have received prior to Hyatt becoming involved, but were not provided now that Hyatt is managing the property. Less Staff: After speaking with a number of hotel staff, we estimate that the work force was reduced by about 25% (as comments from staff were noted, with most of them saying that they though the figure was between 20% and 50%). The comments that we received when asking about the apparent staff shortage, went something like this: When Bahia owned the hotel, as we moved into the low season, the hours for permanent and temporary staff were reduced, but everyone got to keep their jobs. When Hyatt took, over, they just said “bye, Bye”. This explains why the waits for trolleys were longer; bars with a typical operational staff of 3-4 were reduced to 1-2; pool wait staff was reduced at some pools from 3-4 to one; and in some cases, to no staff at all; kitchen staff were limited and did not have a basic knowledge of the English language (food items in the buffet were obviously mislabeled, like chicken labeled as vegetables, and desserts being labeled as fish, possibly because of a shortage of English-speaking workers). Limited Security: The security guards on the property were virtually non-existent. The only ones we ever observed in our 2-week stay, were not inside the grounds of the hotels. The only ones we saw were a couple in the parking lot out front of the Akumal lobby. The result was a noticeable decline in enforcement of basic rules, which translated into people throwing garbage all over the place, and other problems. The pools were regularly littered with baskets left over from snack bar food, empty water bottles, and cigarette butts. People were smoking all over the property. In the past, smokers were not seen frequently because the designated smoking areas are well away from the restaurants and pools, and this was strictly enforced. Unfortunately, at the entrance to restaurants, many areas in and around the pools, and throughout the walkways in the complex, people were lighting up and smoking without regard for the rules. This was not due to a change of policy in terms of designated smoking areas, but rather an apparent growing understanding by smokers that they would not be asked to butt out. We spoke to a number of staff members as this occurred often. None of which wanted to do anything about people smoking in non-smoking areas. There were many signs, but no one wiling to enforce the policy. All of the workers were visibly concerned about being complained about, and subsequently fired (a very real and reasonable concern). So, staff members refused to enforce this rule, and also refused to give the names of their supervisors, when asked. The names of their supervisors were not being requested for the purpose of getting the worker in trouble, but rather to locate a person willing to enforce the rules. The supervisors we spoke to, advised us of the staffing levels and their general fear of being the next one to be fired. They were truly scared of losing their jobs, citing Hyatt only needing the slightest reason to fire the existing Bahia Principe staff, to make way for hiring their own. The lack of security staff is particularly concerning. Primarily because this trip we did not feel as safe as we typically have at this hotel. So, it was not surprising for us to hear about other who had been the victims of thefts and other crimes. This is no longer the safe and secure hotel it once was. Beaches Neglected: Although on some days there was a full-sized back-hoe and dump truck being used to help clear the seaweed, the workers could not keep up. Their attempts to rid the beachfront of the copious amounts of seaweed that littered the beach each morning, were almost pointless. My wife and I typically love to beach walk, but could not do so. Primarily because, even so much as a gentle grazing of this stuff would produce intense itching that could not be overcome by simply dipping into the ocean. Both my wife and I ended up with a bad case of itching a couple of times. In each case, it was only remedied by washing with soap and water in our room. We tried to beach walk on four separate days, then after not being able to escape the itchy seaweed, we gave up and opted to pool hop and get drinks at the bar. Poor Quality Drinks: Coca-Cola products have been replaced with Pepsi products. I don’t know about you, but most people I know, order a rum and coke, not a rum and Pepsi. Previously it was easy to get a tasty drink (with alcohol or without). On this trip it was difficult to find a good drink. Although Fernando at the Sian Kaan Beach Bar did make a delicious and interesting one with tequila and grapefruit juice. I am not sure what he called it. The bartenders at the Sian Kaan Lobby Bar also made an excellent drink: a passion fruit mojito. No Alcohol in the Rooms: Previously a small bottle of rum, vodka, and whiskey were all provided in the bar fridge of each room. On our trip, none of these were provided in our room. We inquired, but the cleaning staff said they no longer do provide this service. Reduced Landscaping: Previously you could not walk anywhere without seeing at least one group of landscapers tending to the beautiful grounds. Now that Hyatt has taken over and fired a large number of staff, we did not see one worker completing these tasks – throughout our 2-week stay. Closed Restaurant (Katok, next to the infinity pool): Previously one could enjoy a dip in the pool, then put on a shirt and some shoes, and enjoy a bite to eat in the indoor-outdoor buffet at Katok, immediately next to the infinity pool. This buffet closed for both breakfast and lunch on weekdays and weekends, in the middle of our stay. Restricted Access to A La Carte Dinners: Two days before we arrived, we still had not been able to book a single a la carte dinner for ourselves. This being after several attempts to do so. In a desperate attempt to obtain some dinner reservations, I sent an aggressive email to the unhelpful staff at the other end of the email address, that I believed was at the actual hotel. We got some booked but most were at times well after one would typically eat dinner (i.e. for 9:30 pm). We were told to figure it out when we got to the hotel. We arrived and even before we went to our room, we attempted to book other a la carte dinners, but were told that there were none left. The staff seemed to hide behind a regularly used excuse of “it is subject to availability”. I understand the concept, but when one is promised an a la carte dinner for three nights of their 1-week stay, and they are unable to book a single one, this is not acceptable. This was the case for a group of more than 40 people from Buffalo, on a destination wedding to our hotel. The staff cited “subject to availability” to them and my understanding was that not a single person in their group was able to book an a la carte dinner during their 1-week stay. This seemed odd to us. Especially since we were told the hotel was at 50% capacity. Maybe these guests were talking through their drinks and exaggerating. So, my wife and I talked to other couples and asked how their experiences were with regard to obtaining an a la carte booking. After speaking with over 20 different couples during our trip this is what we discovered. Not a single person we spoke to reported that they could book an a la carte dinner, prior to their arrival. Throughout our trip, all of those we spoke to cited problems with the app, and a reluctance on the part of staff to help them. My wife and I resorted to offering large tips to the reception staff to gain entrance into a number of the a la carte dinners, just to receive what we had been promised in our all-inclusive package. So thankfully, one of the more important parts of our trip (fine dining) was not lost. While we were at these special restaurants, we noticed most of them with 60% vacancy. Virtually every a la carte restaurant we dined at, had more than half of their tables completely empty and unattended. (The only exception was Alux, at Sian Kaan.) This did not make sense to us, so we persisted by asking supervisory staff at these restaurants. They explained that ever since Hyatt had taken over, they no longer honoured the Loyalty Program and this had somehow translated into only allowing 40% of the restaurants to be used for serving regular guests. We later found out that this was to accommodate the Privilege Club members of the Bahia Principe who had totally different access to the hotel’s app. We did not find this out from talking to the staff at the hotel. We only heard this through the Privilege Club members we spoke to. It appeared as if the Privilege Club members did not know that the options available to them through their access to the hotel’s app, is significantly different than the options available to non-Privilege Club members accessing the same app. Watersports No Longer Included: Previously, all non-motorized watersports were included at this all-inclusive hotel. This typically involved kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, wind surfing, and sailing. I have sailed at virtually every Bahia Principe hotel we have visited, as all of them had small simple Catamaran sail boats. Now that Hyatt was managing the property, non-motorized watersports were “included, but you had to pay for them”. This is the explanation I received. Yes sir, they are included, but you have to pay $63.00 USD as a minimum charge if you want to use the sailboat (and $79.00 USD if you wanted an instructor to go with you). We did not see a single Catamaran out on the ocean, throughout the entire duration of our trip. Purchased Upgrades Not Provided: When you pay for an upgrade to a room with an ocean view, or a swim-up pool, you expect to get a room that at least resembles these features. I know ocean view is somewhat subjective, but a room with a swim-up pool is not. This issue did not happen to us, but it did happen to many of the people we talked to. They were quite upset to have been placed in our building (#83 near the infinity pool). Even some of the Privilege Club Members were denied access to the upgrades they had paid for. Construction: I am sure that there is usually a small number of repairs or minor construction projects going on during any given stay. How else would a hotel boasting 2500 rooms stay on top of keeping the entire property open – and in a state of good repair. However, we have not been privy to witnessing this as the Bahia Principe management made a point of keeping this work well hidden. To be clear, at no time in our previous 21 trips to any of the Bahia Principe hotels had we been exposed to the major construction that went on while we were staying in Akumal this trip. Hyatt chose to close down numerous nearby complexes of 18-unit and 36-unit buildings. This resulted in us regularly travelling past several work sites with industrial machines, and tons of garbage. Our view from the balcony of our room was of used uncleaned toilets, and plumbing fixtures that had been ripped out of these nearby buildings, and thrown into a pile on the ground out front of the buildings that were being worked on. We took pictures because our balcony was quite unpleasant to use. No less than a kilometer of pathways were enclosed (on both sides) with black tarp cloths along the path. Each one being supported by aluminum poles that we had to watch being cemented into the ground, during the first part of our trip. The infinity pool had the building next door being jack-hammered from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm each weekday. No warning of “construction” was mentioned by Trip Central, or any of the customer service reps we spoke with prior to our arrival. Our own travel agent was there the week before we attended and she tells us that she was not notified either. One day we stared outside of our room into a pile of old mattresses and bedframes, and the next day it was mirrors and broken furniture. A far cry from the picturesque settings beyond the construction sites. Even when we tried to get away from the construction surrounding our room, we would regularly cross paths with vehicular traffic on their way to the construction sites, consisting of heavy-duty machinery and large trucks. Spa Treatment Scam: I am a retired member of the Toronto Police Service so I know a scam when I see, or hear, of one. Here is the current Hyatt scam. Offer the guest a “complementary” spa treatment. Tell them it is free when you make the offer. Show them a “zero” at the bottom of the paperwork they have to sign before receiving the treatment. Tell them the Spanish word on the document means “complementary”. Reassure them that the service they are about to receive is free, immediately upon entering the private room. Then after the treatment, tell the guest that they forgot to sign one of the pieces of paper to receive the free spa benefit. This is what happened to me. However, unlike most people, I read every letter of any document I am asked to sign. I make every effort to fully understand anything I sign. I noticed that the document now being pushed in front of me, claimed that I had agreed to treat the spa as “full compensation” for the problems I had cited about the hotel. I told them that I was not willing to agree to this, and asked why the document was not provided prior to me receiving the spa treatment. At this point I was told that they never used the word “complementary” when in fact they did. My wife, who is a retired Police Officer, witnessed the offer being made to me (by a supervisory staff member of the hotel) and at no time did they refer to this interaction as compensation. My wife heard their claims of “free spa” but still refused to participate. However, I was told if I did not sign the form, the charge for the spa treatment would be charged to our room. I refused to sign the form. In response they advised me, that upon check-out, I would not be allowed to have my baggage leave the hotel if I did not pay the room charge. Later, the hotel staff literally held our baggage hostage, and refused to allow us to board the transfer bus, until I signed the form or paid the bill. It was only $60.00 USD so I wasn’t overly concerned about the money. It was the fact that I had been swindled by an otherwise reputable hotel, that really bothered me. My guard was down because this was from talks with supervisory staff at the hotel, not some local scoundrel prowling along the beach. I guess my wife was right. So, I chose to pay the bill, and never go back.

Decline in Quality and Value
This resort is just okay. We stayed in the same resort 2 years ago and there has been a material decline in quality and very inconsistent levels of service, which we heard from everyone. Some of the restaurants (higher end) were still excellent. The quality of booze was weak. We were unable to get any alcohol in our room except beer (wine was over $60 USD). It was impossible to get small pesos to provide tips, had to literally make change from the tip jars. Every drink was filled with aspartame.... The beaches continue to be pretty gross with seaweed despite tons of cleanup efforts. There was significant construction while we were there, but it was only disclosed in the very fine print. Given the recent purchase by Hyatt, the app/website were very unfriendly (incompatible) - we were super lucky to get our restaurant reservations, but not a single other person we spoke to was as lucky. We used the recommended transport company (Nexus Tours) - we upgraded to private - but on arrival we waited almost an hour for our ride and the communication/treatment by the agent was extremely rude. Note the driver on the way home was on time and very polite. I would recommend this ONLY if you are looking for 3/4 stars - no longer approaching 5* status.

Amazing for families!!
We stayed in the resort during March. 2 adults 2 kids .The thing that we were most impressed by was the kids club!! The staff there is so good with the kids and they did amazing programs with them including puting on a show for the evening for all to enjoy. There were many different activities for kids from ages 3-12. The resort is big and you can travel to it's different hotels through walking in the complex or on the beach, or waiting for a golf cart to drive you everywhere , golf carts come every 10-15 min. It was very clean and the staff all over the place was kind and welcoming. Food in the buffet was okay but in the restaurants was delicious ?. Beach was accessible for kids and beautiful , many fishes to see if you're snorkeling. The only thing that bothered us was the small beds but we got along with it . Overall we really enjoyed our stay

Nice Stay
We enjoyed our stay at this resort and it was nice having access to the four other resorts. Our room was dark and a little dated but very clean and quiet. There are a lot of swimming pools and a beautiful beachfront. We found the Akumal had the best beachfront of the other three resorts as the staff worked extremely hard clearing all the sargassum. They did a great job. After around 10 PM, there really is no night life on any of the resorts and if you want to dance and continue on with your night, it’s best to go down to the Hacienda, which is about a 20 minute walk or a few minutes on a trolley. Although we walked mostly it was very convenient having trollies that took you from place to place if you wanted. The food was plentiful and pretty good no complaints. The drinks were great as well. You can easily take a Colectivo bus for a few bucks to close by town’s and Playa del Carmen. The gift shops in all of the hotels are super inflated with outrageous prices. It is best to buy outside of the resort or down at the Hacienda where you can do some bartering. All in all, it is a lovely resort you won’t be disappointed.

Outstanding resort!
First off, the staff are personable, attentive and work hard to please. The variety of restaurants is excellent. We had no problem booking them online. To no fault of the resort, there was a lot of seaweed on the beach however they had workers raking and removing it daily, as best as they could. We go here every year and it’s not always this bad. The pools are maintained and lovely, We stayed in a premier room and loved the upgrades.

Perfect! Just what we were looking for...
Went to this resort with my 15 year old son during March Break and had a wonderful time. Pick up from airport was smooth but it is a bit of a hike to the hotel - about 1.5 hr - but we were aware of this so no issue, just something to keep in mind. Check in was seamless and welcoming. Our room was on the second floor and was newly renovated. Bar fridge stocked daily. The beds did not have blankets which I found odd but you could request them via the hotel app and they arrived promptly. Room service was also prompt. Very important to me was the number of sun umbrellas at the pool area. Lots and lots available. I did go out to the pool area every morning at 7:30am but just to enjoy the sound of the ocean and birds. Generally people did not come out to get loungers until around 8 or 8:30 and this was during March Break so you could sleep in if you want. Most loungers were taken by 9am. Lots of loungers by the ocean as well. They built a jetty which creates a calm area in the ocean. Seaweed is definitely present but they make a big effort to remove it. Servers at the pool and restaurants were lovely. Appreciated tips but did not expect them. There beach bars and beach restaurant were always quiet with no lines. The resort guests were mainly French and English Canadians. Some entertainment in the evenings. We did not attend many of the shows so can't comment but did go to the karaoke in the 'sports bar' and it was fun. Quiet resort. Not a party zone. Lots of seating in the evening in the main lobby where there was live entertainment and one evening they had the silent disco which was great for people of all ages! The buffet was clean and organized, good variety and generally restocked/refreshed frequently. The seating for the buffet was very nice and generally not overly busy which was nice so it felt relaxed and not chaotic. We did not go to the a la carte restaurants so can not speak to them BUT I highly recommend you load the app at least a week prior to departure and book your reservations ahead of time to avoid disappointment. The hotel app was also useful to know the activities going on each evening. There are trolleys available to take you to your room or to the other sister resorts. Resort is great if you are looking for something chill and relaxed with a friendly, quiet, non pushy atmosphere. The only drawback I can think of was I found there was a lot of traffic on the walkways - everything from trolleys, to pickups, to delivery vehicles, even a full sized dump truck passed me full of seaweed.

Amazing Time
We absolutely love this resort and only have amazing things to say! Right from when we arrived, Francisco came out from behind the check-in desk and greeted us and made check in so smooth and effortless, providing all the details necessary for navigating the resort as well as some very cold glasses of champagne. The food choices here are vast, delicious, and fresh whether you go to a restaurant or the buffet. The service is amazing and attentive, and Jose even suggested some delicious drinks we didn't know were an option to order. The resort itself is extremely clean, all the natural features are very well taken care of and even the wild animals are chill indicating that there is a happy balance on the resort between people and nature. I highly recommend this resort and it is somewhere we will definitely be returning to (hopefully again and again over the years).

Great resort
We had a couple of complaints. The registration and a la carte booking process doesn't work. We were unable to pre registration so therefore could not make a la carte reservations. We do not eat dinner after 8pm and the only reservation anyone in our group of 9 got were after 8. We therefore ate from the buffet for 10 days and it was getting very hard by day 7. Not enough gets changed up from day to day. The dishes were not properly labeled which made it more difficult. The 2nd negative but not a deal breaker was, we were in 7824 and it had a very musty smell. I could see you were updating the rooms, this building really needs it. Lastly, your booze seems to be watered down or just really cheap. You did not have to worry about getting tipsy on the alcohol. The wine or beer was the only way you felt like you had had some drinks. The positive side is the staff are amazing!! Your customer service is excellent. We were treated very well.

Great resort
I liked almost everything about the resort except the booking system for reserving restaurants. I think people shouldn’t be allowed to book more than 3 restaurants per week before they arrive at the resort. This system would be more equitable. As it is now people who arrive to the resort for the first time aren’t aware of the booking system before they arrive and then have a difficult time getting any reservations for dinner. They might get a chance for a reservation if someone cancels at 5pm. Your system is unacceptable and it could prevent us from returning to this beautiful resort.

Very disappointed
I went with my daughter, son-in-law and their 12 year old twins. One of the twins is disabled and unable to walk or stand without a walker. We asked for an accessible room and were given one farthest away from everything, and the only thing that was accessible was that it was on the ground floor. We had to take the trolley everywhere, too far for my grandson to walk anywhere, it was very difficult to transport him and his walker onto the trolley. After much complaining, they finally moved us (after 3 nights) to an accessible room that was wonderful, walk in shower and close to everything. BUT at a very additional charge. This is completely unfair, and unacceptable, especially when we did ask for an accessible room. but unfortunately they told us that there was nothing we could do. I will not recommend this resort to anyone, they were not helpfully at all. We were unable to eat in any of the restaurants, unable to get any reservations. Maybe if we had given more money that might of got us in??

Nice resort
The hotel was very nice, not very much seating in the lobby of the Akumel and no lobby bar.The rooms were nice the beds were comfy. In our room though the bathroom smelled bad all the time #7923. Entertainment was good, the beach was good at the Akumel you could see fish just standing in the water. Very dissapointed could only get 1 Alacarte dinner we were allowed 7. We checked every day for cancellations and none. They should not allow people to book alacartes online before the even get to the resort. So will probably not come back to this resort. Also hard to get chairs at the Akumel pool.

Great resort
We have made several trips to the Bahia principe Akumal with our family it is a good family Resort and the beach is perfect for young children. It is very large and we do lots of walking which we enjoy. There are also trollies to transport you around the resort should you want or need this. Our group was 3 families. Children ages 5,9,10,11 and 2 with parents and seniors 69. We were here two years ago with our family and we found the buffet to be exceptional for food select selection. This year, the food selection was still good, but we found it not to be quite as high-end as it was two years ago. The snack bar was always our favourite for lunch this year we found it lacking. Many days there was no pico de gallo or guacamole. They still had very good fish, but it was now in an automated ordering system. My husband found the hamburger un appealing. The service here at the snack bar was also lacking this year. When I asked about this, they indicated they were having trouble securing service people, which is a common issue at home as well. The staff were all very pleasant and did their best but there just were not very many around This Resort is being taken over by Hyatt and the transition is happening in the next few weeks from what I understand. We noticed more automation of services and the automation didn’t work well. We tried booking our à la cart restaurants online 10 days prior to arrival as they suggest and most of the restaurants were already booked. We were looking for early-ish reservations as we had children age 5 to 11 in our group. The rooms were clean and generally quiet. They were large enough to accommodate to adults and two children. The children had their own beds and the adults had a king bed. The service to the rooms was very good. The entertainment was good and drinks were tasty I would highly recommend exchanging your Canadian money to pesos prior to arrival. we had planned on exchanging money at the front desk and we did some of that but they generally only had 100peso and 200 peso notes to do the exchange. We were a group of 10 so leaving tips for meals, etc. for all of us was not a problem to leave this amount for tips. However, I do like to tip the servers for drinks at the pool, etc., and this created a bit of a problem. Overall, this is still a great resort and we enjoyed our stay very much. The food was good in the buffet and had decent variety. the KUUK À LA CARTE Restaurant was by far my favourite. The staff was very accommodating for a group of 10 and our grandchildren enjoyed having the cousins club at their own table as they could only seat six of us together. The children were at a table close to us and managed well. We found the staff very friendly and accommodating. We had a great time and would go back to this resort again.

Lovely Resort
Our building location was ideal. They put us in the adult only section of the resort, close to the infinity pool, overlooking the beautiful carribean sea, and only steps from the adult only restaurant Katook. Food - The food was not great. The buffet dishes were cold, some food items not fresh and dishes were not replenished in a timely fashion. We took in three a'la carte restaurants and those too, were not fantastic as you would think it would be at the resort. As Pickleball has become extremely popular among players, it would be nice to have more than two courts in the entire Bahia Principe Resourt, and spread out among the different resorts (Akamal, Tequila, Coba, etc.)

Great resort!
e had a wonderful stay at Bahia Akumal and truly enjoyed our time at this resort. From the moment we arrived, we felt very welcomed by the staff — everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind throughout our stay. The resort itself was very clean and well maintained, and the food exceeded all of our expectations with plenty of variety and great quality. The only downside of our experience was the dinner reservation system. We were allowed to make reservations 10 days prior to our arrival, but the only available times were 9:00 PM or later. This made it difficult to maintain our routine and get up earlier to make the most of our days. When we asked about earlier dining options, we were told we would have to wait and see if someone cancelled. Given the size of the resort, it felt like there could be more or larger restaurants to better accommodate guests. That said, this was a relatively small issue compared to how much we enjoyed everything else. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the location was ideal. Overall, we had a great experience and would absolutely recommend Bahia Akumal to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway.

the new rooms were amazing. We have been to the resort multiple times and in our experience the buffet was far better in the past, as far as choices and mostly the temperature of the food. The food was ALWAYS COLD!!! The heating system they have implemented is NOT working! We were thinking of taking our adult children and spouses in late 2026, but this may be a deal breaker!

Outstanding Stay at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal!
My wife and I recently stayed at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal in the Mayan Riviera for 11 days, and the experience exceeded our expectations on nearly every level. We stayed in a swim-out suite, which was absolutely worth it. The room was spacious, well maintained, and a perfect way to start and end each day. The resort itself is beautifully laid out, easy to navigate with passenger carts regularly shuttling guests to and from each of the adjoining resorts. The Tequila resort opened while we were there (on Dec 1st) and it looks amazing. The à la carte dining was a standout. We dined at 10 different restaurants, and the food quality and service were consistently excellent. Each restaurant felt distinct, the menus were well thought out, and service was attentive without being intrusive. Overall service throughout the resort was very good, with friendly, professional staff who clearly take pride in what they do. From housekeeping to restaurants to common areas, the team created a welcoming and comfortable environment. A special shout out to Miguel at Bar 66 on the beach. He's one of the best bartenders at the resort. The only thing that could have been improved was the drink service at the pools. We often would not see a server for hours. The evening shows were entertaining and well produced (especially the magician and the "Lumina" act), offering a nice variety and a fun way to wind down after the day. The weather was excellent throughout our stay, which only added to the enjoyment. My wife and I both had a fantastic time and would absolutely return to this resort without hesitation. It strikes a great balance between comfort, quality dining, good entertainment, and a genuinely enjoyable atmosphere. A special thank you to Nicolle Kirk at TripCentral, who booked this trip for us. Her recommendation was excellent, and the experience reinforced the value of working with a knowledgeable travel professional. Highly recommended. David and Karla Melsted

Amazing holiday again
Stayed at this resort for seven beautiful days. Had an ocean front room which was a little dated but room was very clean and everything work. The beach is rocky when entering which didn’t affect us as we always wear water shoes. Had no problem booking all seven a la carte restaurants and had amazing food at all that we booked. Also found there house wines to be very good. Transportation around the resort is great. The trolleys came around every ten minutes so no waiting around. Found the entertainment at night to be very good along with the sports bar. The service from the staff was unbelievable so we would definitely return

This hotel & resort has plenty of pool space, a nice beach swimming area and plenty of spaces to hang out in and gather with our group of approx. 20 travellers. Booking restaurants was very difficult, most of us couldn't get any restaurant reservations and the bathrooms in the lobbies seemed to all be missing hooks on the back of the doors inside the stalls. Pool stairs were super slippery. The mattresses in the older adults only buildings are like bricks. Shuttle services around the resort and neighbouring resorts was amazing and the main buffet was wonderful with a large selection of food options. Fabiola (entertainment team) and Victoria (concierge) both went above and beyond to accommodate our big travelling group.

Tripcentral let me down
The resort/service/location/transportation were all outstanding. We enjoyed our trip immensely. However, the process of making dinning reservations was never explained or highlighted to us. We were unable to make a single reservation at one of the many dinning options after we arrived. Completely booked for the entire week. Although the buffet was quite nice we feel we missed out on so much We feel Tripcentral agents should have advised, no STRESSED to us, the ability and importance of making reservations in advance.

Highly recommended!
We had previously stayed at a Bahai Principe resort in the Dominican Republic. I enjoyed it so much, that when I looked to traveling elsewhere, I intentionally looked for a Bahai Principe resort. I chose to stay at the luxury Akumal and was glad I did! I enjoyed how spacious the property was. I like the a la carte choices, tho I recommend booking them in advance on the Bahai Principe app as spots get taken very quickly. All staff were cheerful and helpful. The buffet was very good and recommend waiting for staff to cook food fresh. The beach was pretty but rocky and waters rough, so I preferred to swim in the pools. The rooms were nice and beds comfortable, although the rooms are dated, I understand they are to be renovated soon. Shuttles run frequently to take you around the resort or to restaurants and other Bahai resorts.

Large resort but the timely shuttle service gets you where you want to be within the resort and to the sister resorts…Coba, Tulum and luxury Sian Ka’an. Food at buffet was very good with a good selection. Was able to book in at restaurants…again with good food. Staff were very friendly and worked hard to ensure an enjoyable stay. Want to mention Maria at snack bar and Jose at the buffet for their great service. Only wish it was not an 1:45 hour bus ride. Would have been nice to fly into Tulum.

Mediocre resort
This resort was not a 4.5 star resort. A major part of the resort is under renovation and you mainly have to rely on the trolleys to get around the resort. The rooms are dated but are clean and the staff is nice and tries to resolve issues when they arise. The dinner buffet food and nighttime entertainment are subpar. The breakfast and lunch buffet were good. It was nice to be able to go to the other Bahía resorts and a la carte restaurants. The food at the a la carte restaurants was great. However, the availability at the a la carte restaurants was limited and we were unable to book any for almost half of our stay. The steps in the pools are slippery and there is no traction to prevent slips. The beach is rocky and not as nice as other beaches in Mexico.

Disappointed
Our experience at this specific resort is so DISAPPOINTING compared to our previous experience with Bahia Principe Luxury - Esmeralda in the Dominican Republic. We had a great time in Punta Cana so we thought we would have the same experience. Unfortunately, we were so wrong. Driving in to the resort, we were welcomed with an ongoing construction at the site: parts of the stairs at the entrance is closed off as it is being fixed, the buildings we have initially requested for is going through major construction, the main pool is closed due to some machine/filtration malfunction. The construction should have been disclosed to us when we first connected with the 2 Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal Customer Care via email a week before our arrival since we are a big group and there are few people in our group that are handicap and unable to walk far and take stairs. We requested for specific buildings to accommodate our physical disabilities but we were not even accommodated nor given better options. The beach is disappointing too especially by the infinity pool. We can't really enjoy the pool nor the restaurant by it because you will inhale the fumes from the tractors that hauls the seaweed from that beach. Basically, the view from the infinity pool are the workers and the tractors cleaning the seaweed at the beach. Also, the ala carte restaurants are so hard to get reservations through the app for our group of 16. I was told at the front desk that I should have been referred to a Groups/Events Representative which was not even suggested in the beginning. When we took our chance to go to one of the ala carte restaurants, it was almost empty and yet the app says it's full. When we asked if they can accommodate us, they said they can as long as we purchase 2 bottles of wine for our group which cost $100 usd. Also, we were told to pay $8 per coconut if we want one. Food at the buffet is nothing to write home about and it's mediocre at best. The swim up bar at the main pool area closed early because they ran out of alcohol. We also have bats and cockroaches in the rooms. The doors to the connecting rooms are literally screwed shut so we can't even access the other room from the inside. For the amount of money we paid for this all-inclusive, this is not a Luxury resort at all. This is not all-inclusive. I will not recommend this to anyone. This resort ruined the other Bahia resorts for us.

Over promise, Under deliver
THE GOOD... Overall the property is very large and beautiful and aging but quite well maintained. There are many pools (both busy and quiet) and expansive beach areas with safe swimming and decent snorkeling areas. There is no shortage of beach / pool recliners to spend a few hours in the sun. A very unique feature is the transportation system that is made up of a large number of large modified golf cart like vehicles that travels the many pathways and roadways throughout the resort on a regular schedule. This is free to visitors of the resort. Most staff were quite friendly and helpful, with the exception of some front desk staff who tended to deflect concerns. Our visit to the Spa for a Mayan Massage and Reflexology treatment was excellent! our therapist was Berenice and she was excellent! Definitely the highlight of our week. THE BAD... Depending on the package and individual resort that you purchase there is a promise of dining at the specialty restaurants. The package we purchase was at the "Luxury" Akumal Resort which was supposed to include daily dinners at their specialty restaurants. Upon arrival, however, when we tried to book our dinners we were informed that all the restaurants were totally booked for the week! It was only after many heated discussions with several staff including 3 managers that we were able to get 5 of 7 bookings. Most of these were only discovered at the last minute after checking with the "entertainment" coordinators multiple times during the day! THIS CAUSED A LOT OF FRUSTRATION AND STRESS...something you go on holidays to avoid. Sadly, we have experienced the same frustration on previous visits to this resort but hoped that things would have improved. This resort was technically "all inclusive" but proved to be not really the case. The specialty restaurants had nearly as many choices on their menus that were available FOR AN EXTRA CHARGE as choices that were included, including liquor. The many bars had a reasonable amount of recognizable "premium" brands of liquor but when the staff poured drinks I always saw them use unrecognizable domestic brands? of cheaper liquor. The mixed drinks that included fruit juices all had a very UNPLEASANT chemical like taste which resulted from using cheaper fruit juice alternatives / concentrates. When I asked what type of red wine was being offered at dinner the waiter just laughed and declared that he did not know. Upon reading the bottle he was right. There was no grape variety listed, it just said red wine. Same for the white. (Unsurprisingly it was not good). But unsurprisingly you could actually purchase FOR AN EXTRA CHARGE a named bottle of Merlot, Cab Sav, Pinot Noir, etc. The same applied to some of the resort bars that were open in the evening. Despite displaying moderately premium brands of liquor, they were only available at EXTRA COST. We experienced several minor irritations with our room that included loss of TV signal on three occasions, malfuntion of the in room safe, and malfuntion of our room access key. While none of these were serious they took multiple conversations / visits with hotel staff to rectify. FRUSTRATION AND STRESSFUL! CONCLUSIONS.... In my opinion this resort is no longer 5 star but probably 4 star. Although they make many promises about the superior service level at the Akumal Resort this is not the case. We have also previously stayed at the Coba resort and there is not an appreciable difference (except that it is less expensive and has much better fun vibe...especially in the evening. We spent the most evening time there.

Food: excellent. Buffets have a lot of variation. You won't starve, A la carte.. Really good. You do have to go online to pre-book restaurants. Get the app, pre check in, pre book restaurants... And then day of leaving, pre check out. Pretty painless Room was clean, but very musty smelling 7516. They were made aware, but did nothing. Definitely need water shoes. There's lots of rock/Coral.. Especially adult section. They did their very best cleaning the sargassum. The big beach is busy, water is shallow, so good for little kids. Pools were clean. Not freezing cold. Really big resort. If you don't care about the beach and are a pool person, you'll love it.

3.5 stars - poor a la carte restaurant system, rooms need updating and cart service could be improved
Pros: a lot of restaurants to choose from if booked at Akumal luxury resort staff was 99% great and friendly smaller 3 story complexes which makes it more quiet in rooms a/c worked great in our room kids waterslides at Coba resort great for kids 3-12 decent amount of shade and trees throughout a good part of property room service can be done through app and arrives within 40 minutes night entertainment, especially music, very good for family to enjoy local music/bands we had a lot of choice of fruits at buffets and even a gluten free bread option available Cons: even though a la carte restaurant offers a lot of choice, if you aren't aware you can book 10 days before your arrival, you will have a lot of trouble finding a restaurant to book which then disappoints paying the extra cash to stay at Akumal versus other properties as Akumal is only one giving you 1 a la carte reservation per night while other resorts (Coba and Tulum) offer 2 reservations per week a la carte restaurants show as full on app but between 17:30-19:00 often just 20-30 people out of capacity of 100+. We were told this is because people don't cancel their reservations which sounds like bs as I don't see 80% of people not cancelling there reservations. We were told you can take a chance at a restaurant and walk in and see if the hostess will allow you or you can ask customer experience (desk near lobby) to see if they can work some magic. Still inconvenient when you pay extra for a la carte. Big miss here for a la carte restaurant reservations. the cart service to travel can be good but if you go to Tulum resort, expect to wait 15 minutes for a cart to get back to Akumal or Coba resort can be a lot of walking if you aren't able to catch a cart to drive you which isn't ideal with smaller kids heard a lot of complaints about beach being rocky can get some waiters in a la carte restaurants who disappear for a while which makes dining experience longer than it should be our bathroom was dated. mirrors were stained and tub/shower was needing some uplift. beds were hard and pillows we had a lot but all worn out were your head just goes right through it For Akumal luxury resort, I give this a 3.5 stars due to extra money you pay for a la carte reservations which you are entitled to 1 per night versus 2 per week at other properties at resort. If you can't get in restaurants, why pay more? Also the cart service can be an issue depending where you want to go. Rooms need some updating.

The Bahia group of resorts have really nice facilities. Reception, public areas, pools are all great. Unfortunately the rooms at Akumel are very old and tired, and not at all 5 star. Also a la carte restaurants are great, IF you can get a reservation. It is almost impossible to get reservations at reasonable times. Bahiz Principe Luxury Akumal Wedding Experience
The property is stunning. Entering through an avenue of beautiful foliage, to an impressive entry and spacious lobby, check-in was efficient and friendly. The room was clean, attractive and well-serviced. The villa area was quiet and beautifully landscaped, with lots of birds and wildlife.Buffet and réassurants were excellent, with good variety and quality of meals offered. Entertainment was excellent, if rather loud. The beach areas were clean, with plentiful shade areas. The beaches themselves tend to be rocky, requiring water shoes, but one particular lagoon had spectacular snorkelling. There could be more towel stations, as I was only aware of one. Pools are beautiful and refreshing, i enjoyed the quiet pool and Adult area. Staff were consistently friendly, pleasant and efficient. Room service was excellent, although food sélection and quality were only moderate. The wedding was beautiful and appeared perfect (I was not involved in the planning) The resort is huge, requiring .a lot of transport on small trolleys, which were comfortable and frequent. Even so, there is considerable walking Activities and the staff were excellent, with a wide variety, and great animators. In all, and excellent property, and I look forward to my next visit!

Couples Vacation to the Bahia
We loved the Bahia Akumal, this property really has put the effort into accommodating everyones needs, vacation type and budget. This property has 4 resorts in one, if you stay at Akumal and Sian Ka'an you have access to all 4 resorts which are accessible by tram. And you have 7 a la carte dinners at any of the restaurants on the property. By using the bahia app you can book your a la carte up to 10 days before your departure. We really enjoyed that aspect of our trip was already taken care of. Akumal makes efforts to ensure there are adults only spaces throughout the resort; on the beach as well as an infinity pool with its own buffet, which was also adults only, offering breakfast and lunch. We really enjoyed this feature as we could go for breakfast and stay till lunch and then decide where we wanted to go for the rest of the afternoon. Sian Ka'an was the other adults only; however the age demographic was mostly 50-60's and this resort was a good distance from the beach and more of a jungle vibe; very quite and secluded. However we prefer to be near the beach where we can hear the ocean. If you are a Golfer this side of the resort has a PGA course. Some of the differences between Akumal and Tulum (the more popularly booked option and the biggest section of the complex) Tulum is more updated and is quite large, it also has the biggest beach frontage however the largest section of the beach (at least during the time of year we were there: February) didnt have enough space between the short and an incline to put loungers so the loungers for this section were behind a short fence and some greenery/vegetation. This part of the beach is also the closest to Tulum's largest pool. So a bit of a walk down the beach to get to the loungers that are directly on the beach where you can see the surf. The beaches at Akumal give you more options in terms of terrain; the adults only section of the beach has quite a lot of ocean life and a great spot to snorkel, they ensure all akumal beaches have surf breaks and therefore much calmer water to enter and exit from and makes snorkeling possible however, one of these beach options was fairly rocky so consider wearing water shoes. Tulums bigger beach doesn't have a break and during our stay the waves were too strong to make the swim enjoyable, so it was really nice to have a calmer option at akumal. Tulum has more snack bars for between the lunch and dinner service buffets then Akumal has, and we found that they kept those snack bars more stocked and therefore more options to choose from then akumal. We found the differences between the luxury option at Akumal and Tulum and Coba to be slight but worth it. They have poolside and beach drink service. They have service at every bar vs self serve at some of tulums bars. The Buffets were comparable however, the higher end option at Tulum might be something like Piaya and at Akumal a chef sliced roast or meat of some kind. Also things like Avocado/guacamole was at all of the Akumal buffets but not at Tulum when we came for a meal. So small subtle differences but you could see them throughout your stay. Some of the negative parts of our stay would be in the buffets; the food is so poorly labeled for anyone with dietary requirements aka allergy its very unclear if you are getting what is labeled at any point. For example the sushi was never labeled properly and when asked for clarification they were unable to tell us which item was which. Or when looking at the options before you, there is clearly a dish of plantains however that tag is no where on the listing for that section. There is no allergen warnings labeled either. And even in section where there was several things containing shellfish the labels were not accurate. This is likely a common occurrence down south where english is a second language however, its worth noting if you have concerns in this area. We also had a few small items go missing from our room, so that was disappointing but not large enough items to worth mentioning to staff. The location from Cancun is a bit of a trip, it was only supposed to take 1.5 hours but due to traffic and road maintenance it took 3 hours to get there. Upon speaking to other guests that arrived through Tulum airport they said it took no time at all to make it through the airport and they were at the resort in under and hour. Overall we had a great trip, we would return to this location, and we would recommend it to friends.

Great resort
Found the pictures of the pool very misleading! Instead of one large long pool as we had expected, it was broken up into several separate pools!! The buffet was passable but not great for every meal. The ala carte restaurants were excellent and dispite comments to the contrary we had NO PROBLEM making reservations for them at the customer service desk once we arrived.

Amazing, beautiful resort.
We stayed at the Bahía Príncipe Akumal, adult only resort and cannot say enough about it. The rooms were beautiful, so spacious and clean. The grounds were beautifully kept, we had our own pool, restaurant and beach with lots of chairs available. The drinks were yummy, the food delicious and the people so friendly and helpful. We do not have one bad thing to say about this property and we will definitely be going back. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.

We have stayed at a lot of all inclusives and we definitely rate this one as best one we have ever stayed at. We were in adult section of adult luxury Akumel. Check in was our first impression of great service, grounds and pools were beautiful, staff were amazing, very accommodating and helpful, trolleys readily available for rides, buffets had good selection and a la carte restaurants had amazing food! We will be back to this resort as we loved it!

Great Staff at this resort
The rooms are a bit dated if you get the junior suite, but they do the trick. Good for sleeping and getting ready for the day. The food was great. You will not go hungry here. The service staff were amazing. Always attentive. Don’t fall for the privilege club sales pitch. Unless you have tens of thousands to spend to be a member and want to waste your time in the sun being hounded. Say no thank you and move on. Great pools. Always can find a spot. Massages in the spa were amazing.

Beautiful resort!
This is an absolutely amazing resort. The rooms were as stated, large & clean. The service was great. We had a problem with our safe and someone came within 5 minutes to help us. Always had clean towels, fridge was stocked daily. The main buffet was huge, clean and had wonderful friendly staff. We ate at a different restaurant every night and every one of them was fantastic. Beach and all the pools were great. The infinity pool was our favorite. Can't say enough about this resort. We loved it.

Not a five star
We went over new years. The hotel staff were great for the most part but seemed like they were understaffed at times. We have never experienced a 5* were you had to wear wrist bands, check your towels out and back in as well as book our restraints in advance. The food was tasteless which was a huge disappointment. Asking for any kind of hot sauce seemed to be so far fetched. Would not stay at this chain again.

Wonderful way to escape the Christmas craziness
I traveled here alone and met my friends staying in the neighbouring block (Tulum) the following day of my stay. I felt safe, well fed, and so relaxed on day 1. That didn't change for the next six days. The gym facilities and equipment are expansive and clean, the transport between resorts from Tulum to Coba to Sian Ka'an are all so accessible, the a la carte restaurants are beautiful and they accommodated all of my requests for pescatarian meals. My room at Akumal was beautiful. The staff provided housekeeping and re stocking daily. The bartenders were friendly and fast. A note: some margaritas were better than others, and I was curious why I never met a woman bartender. If you find a bartender you like, stick with them for consistency of your drinks. The beaches were gorgeous. If you stay at akumal you can walk along the beach all the way to the neighbouring resort. Some sections are quieter than others, and some lounge chair blocks are reserved for Sian Ka'an or Privilege Club guests. If you don't want to be near the entertainment or music in the day time, seeking out a quieter beach isn't difficult at all. The adults only section of Akumal near bar 66 and the infinity pool got a bit busy during my time there, it seemed to be a bit of a tourist attraction for guests, but that is easily remedied by going wherever else your heart desires on the massive property. Had a blast, would go back. Thanks to my travel rep and to the staff. Besos!

The entire resort was very well kept clean. The public bathrooms were always super clean . The food was amazing. We ate the buffet almost the entire time. Always fresh and tasty. The entertainment staff were such a pleasure. Gretel and Hannia were our favs. The rooms were pretty decent. We needed to move rooms because of noisy neighbours and the front staff were amazing to deal with. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. All employees here were very pleasant. Great resort
We spent a family vacation with our 3 y.o. daughter in August 2024. We loved the resort! The territory is huge, and you can still use the amenities of other parts of this Bahia Principe resort while staying in one of them. The entertainment team did a wonderful job, and we loved the evening shows. The restaurants were amazing! The food was always tasty, and the service was very decent. We also liked that the staff does their job really well no matter whether you're giving them tips or no, which makes you want to tip them. However, the beach is not great along the whole shore occupied by the hotel - the part near Tulum is better. Also, the rooms in Tulum have undergone pretty recent renovations; however, in Akumal they are pretty large and are kept clean and well-maintained.

Overall a nice place to holiday
My husband and I went to the resort for our honeymoon. After many attempts to let the staff know it was our honeymoon, we were underwhelmed Food and buffets were great, the restaurant booking process was not ideal- a la carte can be booked in advance with no limitations, so getting in to the highly rated restaurants was virtually impossible. Room service was a life saver. The beach was decent, lots of seaweed on adult only side. The room was nice and spacious, we had purchased the ocean view room and it was beautiful. The sliding door was not tracking properly though and so a lot of warm wind was whistling in at all times of the day/night making noises and not allowing the room to cool down properly. We made the best of it.

Great holiday
We had a nice holiday, but it’s not a 5 star hotel. Pros; Best thing about this hotel was the Food selection. Restaurants al a cart were great, but make sure to book ahead. The adults only beach was great it always had lots of chairs available any time of the day. People are very friendly and attentive. Con’s: We upgraded to ocean front villa 47 and room needs a huge overhaul. You could not get a chair at the main pool if you didn’t reserve early enough. At 6 am all the shaded loungers were taken. The water at the pool was way too warm. Not cooling at all. Wish there were staff available bring drinks around pool and beach.

Huge Resort with lots of variety for food!
We had an amazing week at Bahia Principe Akumal. Its our first time travelling with our 20 month old so we had alot of concerns and requests to make our stay more convenient. We requested to be on the ground level as I found out doing my research that there are no elevators so it would be really hard to get up and down with stroller and everything else. It was really thoughtful they did place us somewhere convenient and close to the station where u take the shuttle. We were in 6501 ocean front , which was upgraded for free due to re-scheduling because of the hurricane. Everyone is really nice and friendly in the hotel. The kids club people were really awesome, they let us drop in with our baby just to hang around because she is still too little to be dropped off. Our servers Eric, Jesus for breakfast and Jose and G for lunch and for dinner Hector. They were all very attentive and had a high chair ready for us soon as we walked in. Our hotel room was dated but it was very well maintained. Our mini bar is always fully stocked. I requested to have lots of water so i can make a bottle for my daughter every night and also our room was kept clean and with fresh towels daily. The resort is huge so studying the map is necesarry because the signs are fairly small and easily missed. Especially since you will have access to all other resorts such as coba, tulum and sian kan adults only. My baby loved the waterpark in tulum. There are no kids waterpark in akumal but there are plenty of swimming areas with shallow ends. The beach is amazing! But dont forget your water shoes. Glad i did my research and got my family aqua shoes because oh boyy the rocks are not fun. There were kids and people getting cuts on their toes and some lady even got a really bad one, it got infected. Otherwise, the ocean is beautiful, its got a man made barrier so you dont get the huge waves. It was the highlight for me! As im a beach person. Be careful with the sand my daughter had a lot of sand flea bites by sitting on it for too long. I should have made her wear a body suit. On that note, the bug bites! There are lots and also mosquitos at night attacking our feet while we hang out in the lobby as well as theatres. Bring lots of good bug spray. Its really really warm this time of the year i got me one those tiny electric fans from amazon. They were life savers. The food in general was amazing! Lots and lots of variety. I ate fish and seafood everyday. They were so fresh here. The meats are hit and miss sometimes it tends to be too dry but over all flavours were still really good. Lots of fresh fruits and desserts daily and the best iced coffee at the coffee shop! Breakfast has so much variety.

Great Experience!
Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal is a great resort! Stay at one, play at four and having visited the other three, it was clear we made the right choice. Deluxe rooms are the most updated and closer to the Adult only pool and daytime restaurant. Staff were fantastic and met our needs. Food was excellent, with 17 a la cartes. We enjoyed the 6 we booked...we used the app and you must book them the day you arrive, once you get your room # as fill fast. Cons: There isn't much A/C other than your room, which was perfectly set. Some restaurants are outside so no A/C obviously and sports bar at neither hotel has A/C, which proved uncomfortable in the evening, when so humid! Exit visa - did not ask us to pay anything. Advised by our Air Transat Rep that they are removing that in a few weeks to best not to pay....fortunately we didn't do before we left.

Room for improvement
Hotel looks exactly like pictures. Is it a 5 stars hotel? More like a 3 stars. When we first arrived (hour drive from the cancun airport) they welcomed us with champagne glasses. We then told them we asked for a bigger room via email before we arrived, on the email they told us we were in the new renovated villas. But at the desk, they told us it's not available and we have villa 53 (old). We said please we have a daughter that has a breathing condition and we'd like for things to be clean and spacious. Then they said for the renovated villas it will be a charge of US$1,300 EXTRA. which is weird because they just said the room was not available. Anyway, we did not upgrade. Our room was small, first floor, everyone was passing by our balcony, so no privacy. It was also dirty, the walls in the bathroom was not clean (there were drops of things all over) and we got but by fire ants in the room. They sent the exterminator 3 days later though. We got approached by the privileged club and they told us they will treat us better if we sign up with them and that's how they treat people that book through an agency. They obviously told that to the wrong person because I right away said if they think we will come back after this hahaha. Food was okay, got food poisoning from the buffet, but a la carte restaurants were nice most of them. I would give 5 stars for the entertainment ans the kids club 100% those people are amazing and they were the ones that made our trip bearable! Props to all the kids club employee for loving what they're doing and creating the best memories for our kids : Josseline, Eduardo, Ingrid, rebeca, abigail and cuauhtemoc were amaziiiiinnggg

Bahia Pincipe Akumal
Edilzar and his team sevices from restaurant Katok was phenomenal ! We always been welcome as we were home! Always willing to help with any request we may have during meals... And also had great services from his Manager Julian... Overall experience during the stay was really great except for some minor caveat... 1- Our first room shower was not working good (which is surprising for an deluxe hotel like this one). We have reported the situation on our arrival Friday and up to Tuesday it was still not fixed. They finally moved us to a different room and everything was good there. 2- We subscribe to the premium high speed internet, and although it went well for the first device, it been quite a nightmare to add the second device and needed help from a onsite tech to add it. But frankly, we have not see much difference compare to the normal free internet access as for the speed and stability. Is the tech really add us to the premium plan?? They should be improvement to integrate the Internet Premium subscriptions and possibility adding extra device with Bahia App to make it easier for guests. Also, it looks like when selecting Free access, there is no easy way to to subscribe to the Premium plan. 3- 2 out of the 7 evening show entertainment were chargeable if you want to attend. As for other positives aspects, we notice there is been renovation improvement for some of a la carte and buffet restaurants and rooms (although we were in the older model room). It also seems they increase the team to remove the Sea Weeds that become very problematic in the region and therefor we could enjoy to go in sea water with very minimal weeds. As a side note Tip, you can pre-checking your reservation 10 days in advance via the app and when you do you may want to reserve your a la carte restaurants as soon as possible via the app as the most popular one getting filled very rapidly. Do not wait to reserve when at the resorts to reserve because you may have very limited selections. Thank you Thank you Martin

Very enjoyable resort!
We (adult family) very much enjoyed our stay at this resort! It is a vast resort, making it a great, safe place to explore. There was quite a bit of walking, but the landscaping was beautiful, and there was lots of wildlife and birds to observe. We also took the electric trolley carts to explore the sister resorts attached to this resort. The buffet had lots of delicious food to try with various themes. We didn't even try the a la carte restaurants as there was so much to try. The staff were excellent and went out of their way, including Ricardo at check-in, who diligently ensured that our rooms were all together when the travel agent who booked us forgot to note that we were a family and we were put in units very far apart. The beach and pools were great, and the staff served drinks everywhere. My only complaint might be the hard mattress - but the rest of my family loved them and slept soundly. Also, there was the smell of sewer gas in some places, which might have something to do with the mangrove forest throughout the resort, but it was never that bad. Also, the surf was rough this time of year, which also meant there was always a breeze to help you keep cool. The location was near Tulum, with many cenotes, snorkelling lagoons and natural places to explore, but it is a long 2-hour drive from Cancun airport. I would definitely consider returning. The shows were good, especially the Fiesta over at the Hacienda, and the prices of souvenirs were cheaper than the airport and the archeological sites like Tulum and Chichen Itza.

Good resort but very large/spread out
First of all, here is what we prefer in a resort. We are beach babies, so a nice beach, adequate loungers and beach view is a must. As well as swimming in the ocean. Swimming, not wading (will get to that, LOL). Swim up room, and everything within a comfortable distance of our room. Lots of sun and friendly service. Otherwise, we are pretty adaptive... On to the review! Resort Staff: Overall did not find them overly engaging/enthusiastic HOWEVER for the first time in my extensive travels, noted that 2/3 of the guests were not tipping service, were cold towards the staff so I cannot blame them for not putting forth best effort. We managed to get to know a few of them and once we engaged/tipped they were wonderful. Hard to do that with the expanse of the resort and rotating staff... I tip well in the room, the cleaning staff were excellent and complied with my note that I left requesting fridge be stocked with certain items daily. Room: We booked a swim up room (our preference), and due to a leak in the pool fell short of advertised expectations. The water level was below the skimmers when we arrived, and continued to drop for about 3 days. Which turned it into a very loud waterfall as the return jets were above water. Not the tranquil pool advertised/expected. Management were well aware and did not add water to the pool (witnessed manger/maintenance/someone else inspecting it and taking pictures. Water level stopped dropping just under the night time accent lights/vacuum opening, attempted to explain to maintenance that was where the leak was, fell on deaf ears... Other swim ups looked fine, avoid building 63 for now... Resort layout: BIG complex, expect a lot of walking and lots of rides on the shuttle "trains". Add ons: Lots of add on charges. First time ever we had to pay to attend shows. Having said that, what we paid for was very very good! Kids: They have an extremely good good kids club, many activities we observed, they kept the kids engaged from early day until late evening. Daytime in the lobby/pool areas until up till 9 PM they had the kids doing stuff like decorating heart shaped cookies on valentine's day (for mom and dad?) to dance shows at 8 pm. Our grand kids would have loved that (kids on a resort don't bother us unless they are totally obnoxious). We Very entertaining to watch in the mid evening. That was great to see, and I am sure they dropped into bed extremely exhausted to the joy of the parents... LOL! Beach/ocean: We were able to secure loungers in decent areas of the main beach every day. Beach area was very good, white sand (a little course but it was not uncomfortable) and lots of Palapas. NEGATIVE for us, water in the ocean was at best waist deep out to the breakwater, we like to swim! Positive: We bring our snorkel gear with us and around the end of the breakwater there was lots of colorful fish! Grounds were filled with lots of tropical vegetation, Agoutis, Coatis, Iguanas, a few geckos & birds in abundance as well as a few racoons (?) running around to make us feel like back home. I highly recommend downloading the resort app and doing a pre-check in. Which allows you to book Al La Carte restaurants ahead of time. Not that I ever saw the restaurants actually full, but you get your choices booked ahead of time. Restaurants: Found the menus very similar (?) for example they all had some kind of seafood item that was tweaked in a different way. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS OUR CULINARY PREFERENCE TASTES We could not book our first choice (Alux), so that one I won't comment on, lets just say that considering we tried to book it a week before our departure and it was was already full probably makes it a go-to. BUFFET had lots of selection, but very repetitive, themes seemed limited. Actual Mexican cuisine was limited, repetitive and "Americanized". ***Best Mexican food we had was off site during an excursion at a local town restaurant.*** We had breakfasts at KATOK close to our villa, was a decent breakfast buffet, no complaints there. Tikalito beach restaurant, no love on that one, went there for lunch and selection was limited... Best choice was the Maiko. Unbelievable cuisine. Start to finish Portofino, Just slightly below the Maiko. Dolce Vita was running a close third behind Portofino. Frutos Del Mar seafood restaurant was disappointing. No exceptional tastes beyond the appetizer. better seafood dishes elsewhere on the resort. Tequila, total disappointment, more tex-mex than Mexican, selection not so great...

Great trip!
We had a wonderful time at this resort. The staff were all very professional, friendly, and accomodating. It was just my husband and I on the trip and we had requested a room with a king bed, but when we arrived we were given a room with two doubles. They moved us to a new room as soon as a king bed became available, which only took a day. They were great! The first few days on the resort were extremely windy so we weren't able to get in the water but when the wind finally died down, it was great. We got out parasailing, which we did find much more expensive than other resorts/islands we've been to. But it was fun, and the staff running the parasailing were very nice. I got a massage at the spa one day and I have nothing but good things to say. My massage therapist, Luisa, did a great deep tissue massage. It was a full body massage from my toes to my head. Very relaxing! The food was one of the best parts of our vacation. The a la carte restaurants were really great. It's worth noting that you must make your reservations 10 days before your trip at the time you check-in. We knew this in advance, but we spoke to some people who were unaware of this and weren't able to get reservations. So make sure to take a look at restaurants and menus in advance and get your reservations booked. There are no a la carte for breakfast and lunch but the buffet was surprisingly good! Tons of options and good quality. You have access to all Bahia resorts (Coba, Tulum, and Sian Ka'an) when you stay at Akumal. Akumal is by far the best of the 4 so we only ventured on to the others for dinners. All in all, we had a wonderful trip and would definitely recommend this resort.

Fun times.
We took our family to this resort for a week. Age range 3-66. There were 10 of us. Good: fantastic tasty, amazing variety of food at the buffet. Service was awesome. Tables accommodated us all at 1 table. The beach club had great fish and chicken fingers also with many others fresh options for lunch. Delicious. Also great service. So many places to explore. Lots of pools and chairs. Beach was awesome with snorkeling and fish in the protected swim area. Lots of activity made the water murky at times. Beach was perfect for our 3,7,8,9 year olds. Pools were cool but swimmable. Ocean was warmer than the pool. All areas were very clean. Entertainment was very good. Kids participated in the Moana show. Trolleys were plentiful and reliable. There was a lot of walking and as the week progressed we found shorter routes to the places we wanted to go. The walk on the beach from Akumal to Tulum resorts was easy and enjoyable about 10 minutes. Swimming with dolphins was at Tulum. Bonus. Staff was amazing everywhere. Helpful and friendly. The kids really enjoyed the animals. Iguanas, coatis, and little brown no tailed “wumps” we called them. Were everywhere. They ran if approached so didn’t bother anyone. Fun to watch. People fed them and the coatis would get close with feeding. We did not feed them. Down side: big resort that had lots of walking. We love to walk so it was fine and the walkways are well kept and maintained so no issues with getting around. Trolleys were available and reliable arriving about every 15 minutes and picked up along the way if you decided not to walk. Priority was provided for those with mobility issues, the young and old we found. Rooms were a bit tired but clean. Our bed was comfortable but our daughter found hers hard. The sitting area turned into a bed so was great for the kids. Overall great resort that we were happy to experience for the 2nd time. Great kids pool areas at Tulum and Coba resorts which were accessible by trolley or on foot. Our group divided and did Ek Balan tour which was amazing. Deep sea fishing also good and dolphin swim-amazing. Should you require medical attention it is available at the market, also accessible by trolley on the resort. It was very good too. We really enjoyed our stay. We will return.

My second stay at the Bahai Principe and it will remain as one of my favorites. Akumal is the luxury and beach side area of the 4 Bahai Principe resorts located together. Im going to rate this and the other Bahai areas very high, as we visited all but the Adult resort on our recent trip. I have previously stayed at the adult Sian Kaan area and it is beautiful and quiet, you have to shuttle to the beach from there. First Akumal, we were fortunate to stay in one of the recently renovated modern units and they are comfortable, a good size and the AC is perfect. There are first floor swim out units with a small semi private pool, may explore these units for our next visit. A good choice if you prefer quiet, not necessary if you plan to be in the action at the pool or beach. Did hear the older units are a bit dated and the AC less powerful. Akumal has an adult area away from the main pools, that has a beautiful infinity pool, adult restaurant KATOK and a private beach access. If you want quiet, request a room in this area, there are shuttles to take you to the lobby. As for the main pool areas (separate from the adult area) , there are three areas to choose from. The main action area near the lobby, pool with the swim up bar, and a third quieter area with limited bar service. We spent most of our time at the first two where there is music, bar service to your seat, easy beach access. The pools are weave around the area and have seating and lounging options in the water. There is plenty of seats around the pool area, no need to save a spot. Shaded spots are a bit more limited at the pools but abundant at the beach. The beach is busy and seems to be where most people tend to hang out. there is bar service, some activities and a lot of chairs/umbrellas available. COBA is the kids area but really nice and still caters to the adults. We didn't spend much time here outside of restaurants but it is a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Nice sports bar and wide open nighttime area. Pool looks great for young kids. TULUM is a bit further from Akumal but there are shuttles available, not too far if you walk along the beach. TULUM is huge, and renovated. The pools are very large and open, it is louder then AKUMAL. TULUM is a beautiful looking resort. Has beach access but much smaller then AKUMALs beach area. If traveling with just adults I would choose Sian Kaan. With older teens really tough choice between Akumal or Tulum (no bad choice here). Maybe Akumal if I was going to access an adult only area or prefer beach over pool, otherwise Tulum if I want pools more then beach. Coba or Tulum with kids. Coba is budget friendly. Now the best part. The food. Prebook your a la cartes using the Bahai App a week ahead of time. There is an amazing selection of restaurants some focusing on great food and other on an experience. You will not be disappointed. If you are staying at Akumal, Sian Kaan, and I think Tulum, you can book at any of the restaurants on any resort. Some are adult only. The Coba restaurants definitely have a kid focus on menu items but the Mikado experience with the cook top is worth it. I also recommended the Brazilian Steakhouse and Tequila at Tulum for a bit of an experience while dining. All the restaurants at Akumal and Sian Kaan are excellent. You will have a tough time deciding which restaurants to book. Great selection at the breakfast and lunch buffets at all locations, again the COBA features a few more kid friendly options. The only bad thing, is the drive out from the airport. It is a long way and traffic can be an issue. If you are using the transfer bus then you may have stops along the way and you will be the last stop of the journey. My daughters review was, that is a long drive but totally worth it for this resort.

Amazing place
The hotel was cleaned at all times. Very friendly staff. Very good food and variety of options. Glad that we went there. Had a great time.we had adults only beach area which was great for us. The pool we didn’t use because of a lot of sunscreen in the water even they cleaned it every night. We will go again there for sure.

Amazing resort!
This resort surpassed our expectations. We had tried to find a place that offered better food than a previous trip at a different location and the food was great. Lots of variety at the buffet and the reserved restaurants felt like we were eating in fine dining venues. The staff was always helpful and welcoming. The entertainment staff always had something going on and we’re very energetic and friendly. The resort itself is quite large and offers many different things to do. There are also trolleys that take you around that come by within 5-10 mins anywhere in the resort. We will definitely be coming back with more friends.

More than expected
This resort is well maintained, (Akumal) the grounds are impeccable, the staff courteous and attentive. The little shuttle carts run often during the day and often enough at night. There is access to food and drink 24/7. Snack bar is open from 11 pm to 5 am. The restaurants available were good and had something for everyone. We were only disappointed in one. Pools close early (7pm) which was disappointing if you would like a late night dip. There are plenty of umbrellas on the beach and at the pool if you want shade. Lots of sun too! Fun activities and places to be quiet. Something for everyone. I was impressed at check in when I walked up with a cane and the desk staff said there is no elevator. I said no problem. They said let me get you a room on the ground floor, you are currently on the second floor. I said I am not worried but they moved me around and got me on the first floor. This was all done by the front staff noticing my cane. I had said nothing!!! That is impressive. The live bands at the bar were very talented. Drinks generous and premium liquor available. We'd go back!!

Amazing Trip at Akumal
My husband and I went to Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal for one week over the holidays. We had an amazing trip and I’m honestly surprised by the recent negative reviews! The only complaint we had was that the pools were quite cold for the majority of our stay. They warmed up on our second last day, but it was unfortunate that we could not enjoy the pool. Fortunately the resort is right on the beach. You could always find chairs and there were a few bars along the beach too. The beach is nice and we went on a few beach walks to visit the other Bahia resorts. It is true that the ride from the airport is long (around 2 hours). We also happened to be the last stop. There were delays at the airport and we didn’t arrive at the hotel until midnight. The check-in process was easy though. My husband and I were given an upgrade (building 82 in the adults only section - very nice!) upon arrival. The room had two singles instead of a king, but they pushed the beds together and put on a mattress topper so we were happy with that. Especially since the room was much nicer than the standard room and it was in a great area! The bed was comfortable and we were given memory foam pillows. The bathroom was large and our room had a nice view. We were pleased that the manager Brian tried to help us figure out our room situation. He was so kind! The grounds are beautiful. There are four Bahia resorts in total and Akumal is definitely the nicest. You can take a trolley to get from one resort to the other or to get around this resort. We rarely used the trolley since you could easily walk the grounds. Akumal has three large pools (one is adults only). There is a swim-up bar in the main pool closest to the lobby and bars right by all of the other pools. My husband and I thought the food was incredible. I am not a foodie and I can be a picky eater, but I was so happy with the food options. My parents and some family friends joined us for our trip and they also really enjoyed the food. When you stay at Akumal, you can eat at all of the ‘a la carte’ restaurants. TIP: download the app and book your dinners in advance! It’s super simple to sign-up and download their app. We made reservations three days before our stay and booked all of our dinners. I’d recommend booking within a week of your departure. The people that work at Akumal are very friendly. I ended up falling on my trip and had to go to the hospital. The staff were very accommodating, got us a taxi to the hospital (the fees at the hospital were incredibly reasonable, even though we were worried about the cost!) and checked in on me a lot in the days following my accident. We were treated so well and everyone was happy and kind. I would highly recommend Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal for a vacation. I’d be happy to answer any questions about the resort. I can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful resort, some policies not so good
Beautiful resort, grounds were beautiful and well kept. We didn’t get an updated room but our friends got upgraded to one with a swim up pool, they were gorgeous. Buffets were good, the 2 a la Cartes we got were delicious. The staff and entertainment at all resorts were great. Highly recommend the silent disco! The beach at Akumal was enjoyable, although if you’re looking for sandy beaches, this isn’t the one to choose. Take note, although only an hour from Cancun airport, add in all the drop offs along the way, our commute one way was almost 3 hours! When we booked, we were under the assumption we were in Adults only but we weren’t; might have been our mistake, maybe we should have requested it the AO block? Our agent Candice (who was great!) requested a few things: honeymoon, king bed, close to beach and pools. When we checked in they gave us double beds so we asked for king. We ended up at the very back of the resort, furthest from everything. Not a huge deal, just not sure why we have requests if it’s not an option. I thought maybe we’d get a congratulations basket or a bottle or champagne or something for our honeymoon. We saw banners at other rooms celebrating birthdays, anniversaries etc. I guess it depends on who at the resort deals with your agent. Biggest disappointment was the a la Cartes. We found out a few days before we left that we had to book dinners 10 days in advance on their app. We were only able to get 2 online. When we arrived, we tried to book more and they were completely full. We were advised to show up and hope for no-shows. We did this twice at two different restaurants and although tables were empty, we were told we could get a table if we paid $480 pesos (or more) for wine. We denied that, our package should’ve included 7 dinners and we only got 2, why would we pay more? So that’s disappointing. We are lucky we found the Facebook group, if we didn’t, we would’ve arrived to all A la Cartes fully booked. So fyi, if you don’t book the dinners in advance you’ll be eating buffets every day which is not what we’re paying for. A little disappointing since this was our honeymoon. For a ‘Luxury’ resort, it wasn’t very luxury. We honestly would’ve received the same services, food, experiences paying significantly less a person at a different resort in Mexico. Overall, we had a great time and didn’t let the hiccups upset our vacation.

Use to be great, but even the sand has gone!
The grounds are very nice, well kept! The rooms have seen better days, cleaning was not very good. Service was slow not like it use to be, had to get your drinks most of the time yourself. Very hard to get reservations for dinner, all booked up unless you want a 9 o'clock dinner. Was told to book them online , but that would not work for a lot of people we talked to. The construction was loud and dusty, did not know it was going on before we booked. Lobby's bathroom ceiling was falling down and water dropped on my head from the pipes! This was our forth trip and don't think we would go again.

Awesome Resort
Bahia Principe Akumel is one of my favorite resorts, the staff are always smiling and willing to help, they go above and beyond. The customer service was oustanding. The atmosphere in Akumel was so relaxing and soothing to all on our trip. The rooms were very clean and fully stocked with towels, drinks, etc. every day. Many a la carte restaurants to choose from. Buffett foods was good as well. would recommend this hotel.

Luxury Akumal - 2 Thumbs up
Ok, my personal opinion. The rooms are dated but I understand they are working on this. The resort was very clean. The buffet wasn't bad. Having access to the A La Cartes was a nice option. They know how to make a mean mojitho unfortunatley they ran out of mint at the beach bars all the time. The main beach area was beautiful, no seaweed! The staff was wonderful. If you have a family this seems to be a popular option for Brits travelling with kiddos. If you don't have kids like myself it was all good, no need to worry about it if you have a concern.

The hotel rooms are old and need of repair. They are doing renovations. Our room was ocean front and damp and musty smelling. We transferred to the newer building at 56 dollars a day more. They are doing their best with what they have. The cleaning staff went on strike as well so other staff had to fill in.

Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal - An outstanding vacation destination
The hotel is incredible. It's made up of 4 resorts and if you book your stay at Akumal, you have access to all of them. Great pools and the hotel is right on the beach. Every night there is entertainment (including a dj that plays amazing music until 2pm). Food was good... They have several restaurants that serve a variety of foods from cultures around the world but you have to reserve these in advance or you won't be able to get a table. Book your dinner reservations 5 days before you head out to the resort. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It was a great stay.
