| 4 | London - Salisbury - Looe - Plymouth Greetings as we travel to Salisbury Plain and ancient Stonehenge. We'll view Salisbury Cathedral before travelling past Exeter and Dartmoor to cross the River Tamar into Cornwall and the 12th century smugglers' village of Looe. Later, we are off to Plymouth |
| 5 | Plymouth - Cardiff This morning we head to King Arthur's Glastonbury. Then on through Wells with its majestic Cathedral to historic Bath where orientation includes a visit to the Roman Baths. Later, across the Severn Bridge into Wales and its capital, Cardiff for the night. |
| 6 | Cardiff - Clayton-Le-Moors Our day begins with a scenic drive along the beautiful Wye Valley, stopping to view the ruins of Tintern Abbey. Then through Hereford to the Norman town of Ludlow with its imposing castle. Next we head to Chester, where an orientation highlights its Cathedral, city walls, Tudor architecture and galleried shops known as the 'Rows'. Later, on to Clayton-Le-Moors for the night |
| 7 | Clayton-Le-Moors - Lake District A day of glorious scenery as we travel through the Yorkshire Dales at the heart of the Pennines. Then we head into the beauty of the Lake District, travelling alongside Lake Windermere and through the countryside which inspired William Wordsworth's poetry, en route to our hotel. |
| 8 | Lake District - Glasgow This morning we head north into Scotland and through the Borders to its largest city, Glasgow. After an orientation tour there's time to shop or visit one of the many museums. |
| 9 | Glasgow - Scottish Highlands Scotland's rugged landscape dominates the day as we make our way deep into the Highlands, through infamous Glencoe. We continue past Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, to Fort William to see the Commando Memorial with its stunning mountain views. Next, through the glens to Grantown for our two-night stay. |
| 10 | Highlands & Skye Excursion A remarkable scenic day begins with a stop at Culloden Moor to see the site of the battle which defeated the hopes of a Stuart Monarchy. We drive along the shores of Loch Ness, then 'over the sea to Skye'. We spend a short time on this beautiful Isle before more stunning scenery, on our return journey to our hotel. |
| 11 | Scottish Highlands - Edinburgh Today, we visit the Ballroom of Balmoral Castle (When Balmoral Castle is closed, we will visit Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the Queen Mother), the Royal Family's Scottish retreat, and Crathie Church, where Princess Anne was married. We continue through Braemar, host of the Royal Highland Games, to St. Andrews and its world famous Golf Links. Finally, across the splendid Forth Bridge, we arrive in Scotland's capital, Edinburgh for two nights. During the Festival, we include tickets to the spectacular Edinburgh Tattoo. |
| 12 | Edinburgh Edinburgh sightseeing Morning sightseeing includes a visit to the Castle and views Holyrood House, once the home of Mary Queen of Scots. |
| 13 | Edinburgh - Harrogate Today we travel past ruined Jedburgh Abbey into England. We continue through the Northumberland National Park to Viking York where we admire the city walls, the Minster and have time to stroll through the 'Shambles'. This evening, we'll enjoy typical Yorkshire hospitality at a dinner in a local pub before reaching our hotel at Harrogate. |
| 14 | Harrogate - Solihull This morning we drive through the Midlands to Coventry, home of Lady Godiva, to see its old and new Cathedrals. Then our journey takes us past Anne Hathaway's cottage to Stratford-upon-Avon where we visit Shakespeare's birthplace. Later, on to Solihull for dinner and our overnight stay. |
| 15 | Solihull - Oxford - London After breakfast, we enjoy a scenic drive through the Cotswold Hills, before a visit to the magnificent grounds of Blenheim Palace, designed by Lancelot Capability Brown. Next we view Sir Winston Churchill's grave at Bladon en route to Oxford where we visit one of the famous Colleges (or the Sheldonian theatre when the Colleges are closed). Later it's back to London. |
