Day #Description
1Arrive Albuquerque
Arrive in Albuquerque by 5.00pm. Your Tour Director will be available at the hotel this afternoon from 1.00-6.00pm to assist with information. After meeting your Tour Director, the rest of your day is at leisure.
2Albuquerque - Acoma Sky Pueblo - Gallup
This morning we will visit the Pueblo Indian Cultural Center on our orientation of Albuquerque. Then we head out towards Acoma Sky Pueblo, the amazing Indian settlement which is over a thousand years old. From here we continue alongside the Cibolla National Forest and the Zuņi Mountains to Gallup for the night. Gallup's galleries and trading posts feature many fine examples of old and contemporary Navajo Indian arts and crafts. Tonight, enjoy a welcome drink hosted by our Tour Director. (AB)
3Gallup - Petrified Forest - Sedona
Today we visit Petrified Forest National Park to see Mother Nature's whimsical way of preserving her trees. Every bend of the road brings us new views of the colorful, fallen giants, scattered over this area in random patterns. We also see the Painted Desert, delicately tinted hills and valleys, before we continue our journey. After a stop in Holbrook we will head westwards to Montezuma Castle National Monument to visit the renowned ancient cliff dwellings. Finally, we reach nearby Sedona. (AB D)
4Sedona - Grand Canyon
Today we climb forested Oak Creek Canyon to the high plateau leading to the Grand Canyon National Park. We view its amazing red walls from the South Rim and marvel at the sheer drop of two kilometers below the rim, where the Colorado River keeps carving its way into the stone. Later, why not take an optional helicopter or a plane flight over the Grand Canyon? (AB)
5Grand Canyon - Monument Valley - Mesa Verde
A last look from Desert View and we are on our way to Monument Valley. A brief stop at an Indian Trading Post, then we leave the last of the eastern reaches of the Grand Canyon continuing deeper into the lands of the Navajo Indians. We will stop for a narrated trip with a Navajo Indian guide, exploring the sacred Monument Valley, before heading to Mesa Verde National Park. (AB D)
6Mesa Verde - Durango (2)
The famous mesa was inhabited for several hundreds of years by the 'ancient ones', the Anasazi. Mesa Verde guards the very best preserved of the Indian ruins and cliff dwellings in the Southwest. On our guided tour we see some of the accessible Anasazi homes. Next we head to Durango, famous for its Old West history. This evening, we enjoy dinner at our hotel. (AB D)
7Durango - Silverton Excursion
Our day begins with a drive along the scenic Million Dollar Highway, crossing 11,000 feet high Moller Pass on our way to Purgatory, a well-known skiing resort in the Durango Mountains. Then we continue to the old mining town of Silverton. There's plenty of time for you to roam the streets and step back into the 1880's. We return to Durango in the late afternoon. (AB)
8Durango - Taos Pueblo - Santa Fe (2)
This morning, we stop at the Rio Grande River Gorge Bridge before we tour the famous Taos Pueblo. The picturesque setting allows us to wander among the buildings, watching artisans as they create the traditional silver jewelry. Or perhaps try some Indian Fry Bread with a delicious dollop of fragrant honey. Later, we follow the Rio Grande and the Pueblo trail to Santa Fe for our two-night stay. (AB)
9Santa Fe sightseeing
Enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Santa Fe. The wide, smoothly finished pueblo-style walls of many of the buildings in the old town are painted in the colors so typical of the Southwest. Then time at leisure to maybe stroll through the renowned art galleries. Tonight, we get together for a farewell dinner at our hotel hosted by our Tour Director. (AB D)
10Santa Fe - Depart Albuquerque
Today we take the Sandia Peak Tramway to the mountain top for scenic views. Then on to Albuquerque airport where our tour ends at approximately 1.00pm. (AB)|Please do not schedule any flights before 3.00pm
