| 1 | Arrive San Francisco Welcome to San Francisco! You are whisked from the airport to the Trafalgar hotel and meet your Tour Director this afternoon. At 6:00pm, get together with your fellow adventurers at a Kick-Off Party. Afterward stroll to nearby Pier 39, San Francisco’s lively marketplace where fun-filled activities and street performers are sure to be found.Get up close and personal with the pier’s local sea lion population, known as the “Sea Lebrities.” Then, at 6:00pm, get together with your fellow adventurers at a festive Kick-off Party. |
| 2 | San Francisco – Richardson Grove State Park – Garberville Travel across one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world, Golden Gate Bridge. For those up for a challenge, join your Tour Director for a walk across this enduring symbol of California. Then, journey through the rollicking hills of What better way to get a taste of San Francisco than by crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, and if you are up for it, join your Tour Director and cross the bridge by foot. Then, travel through the rolling hills of California’s Wine Country and stop at Richardson Grove State Park for an encounter with the giants of the forest, the mighty redwoods. Follow trails and even walk through one of these monsters! (Full breakfast / Dinner) |
| 3 | Garberville – Redwood National Park - Gold Beach Get in touch with your inner conservationist as you travel along the“Avenue of the Giants,” one of America’s most spectacular roads and best display of giant California redwoods.Step back in time in Eureka, a quaint 19th century Victorian town, built during the height of the region’s logging boom.Next, drive throughNorthern California Redwood National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site with trees over 1,000 years old and over 300 feet tall. Anticipation mounts as you cross into Oregon and step aboard a high-speed jet boat for a thrilling ride on the Rogue River. This Congress-designated “National Wild and Scenic River” roams and roars fromhigh in the Cascade Range to the shores of the Pacific, and is home to a wide variety of wildlife. Keep an eye out for black bear, river otter, black-tail deer, bald eagles, great blue heron and Canada geese which are all commonly seen along the river! (Full Breakfast) |
| 4 | Gold Beach – Oregon Dunes - Gleneden Beach Gear up for the trip to Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, a natural wonder of endless shifting sand, unique tree islands and lots of interesting creatures. Hop in a dune buggy for an exhilarating ride up and down these expansive tracts of sand. Then stop at Heceta Head, a beautiful 19th-century lighthouse that casts its beam some 21 miles out to sea, before continuing north to Gleneden Beach. (Full Breakfast/ Highlight Dinner) |
| 5 | Newport Sightseeing & at Leisure Kick off your shoes, roll up your pants and wade in the Yaquina Heads tide pools for a captivating search for hermit crabs, sea urchins, anemones, sea stars, and even the occasional octopus! Your next look at sea life is even cooler, because you’re headed to the Oregon Coast Aquarium – named one of America’s “Most Awesome Aquariums” by Forbes magazine. Come face-to-face with sharks and bat rays in “Passages of the Deep” – an acrylic walk-through tunnel surrounded by water. With your leisure time this afternoon, maybe explore Newport’s historic waterfront or join an optional Sea Life Cruise; keep an eye out for sea life and marine birds as the onboard naturalist tells you all about your surroundings. | 6 | Gleneden Beach-Tillamook-Portland Better get moo-ving, because you’re traveling to Tillamook, a city synonymous with the dairy industry. Get the scoop on dairy products during a tour of the Tillamook Creamery and learn about dairy cows. Then you’ll be treated to a fresh waffle cone filled high with your choice of 35 delicious flavors of Tillamook Ice Cream. Next, journey to Portland, where you’ll enjoy a city orientation, complete with a stop at the International Rose Test Garden. (Full breakfast) |
| 7 | Portland - Olympic National Park Visit the award-winning Mount St.Helens Visitors Center,dedicated to this active Pacific Ring of Fire volcano. Learn about the volcanic blast of May 18, 1980, an eruption so colossal that it spewed ash into 11 states! Watch a reenactment of the dramatic event and gain an appreciation for this massive volcano with interactive exhibits such as a step-in volcano model and working seismograph. After being “blown away” by Mount St. Helens, venture west and arrive at the rugged coast of Olympic National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve, this park contains no less than three distinctecosystems. Enter the beautiful Hoh Rainforest,one of the world’s few (as well as the largest) temperate rainforests,and trek to the eerie“Hall ofMosses”with trees and branches dripping with moss. | 8 | Olympic National Park – Seattle As the name suggests, you may have to hold onto your bootstraps against the winds of Hurricane Ridge! As locals say, “If the winds don’t knock you over, the views sure will.”Weather permitting,make the climb (thankfully, in a motorized vehicle) up the snaking, 17-mile road to the ridge. After taking in the dizzyingviews from the ridge, drift back to reality and sea level as you cross the Puget Sound by ferry to Seattle. Here, stop at historic Pike Place Market, the nation’s oldest farmers market,where fish fly low – from one fishmonger’s hands to the next! And no visit to Seattle would be complete without making the trip to thetop of the Space Needle, the iconic landmark of the great Pacific Northwest! This evening kick up your heels at a festive Farewell Dinner party with the rest of gang and toast to your northwest adventures and newfound friends. (Full Breakfast / Dinner) |
