| 1 | Arrive Boston Arrive in Boston by 5.00pm. Your Tour Director will be available in the lobby of the hotel at 6.00pm to welcome you and assist with local information for your vacation. |
| 2 | Boston - Maine Coast - Bar Harbor (2) This morning we take the road towards the coast and delight in views of the rocky shoreline. Time permitting we'll stop in some of Maine's coastal villages, such as York Village or Oqunquit. Often known as artist's colonies, seaside resorts and celebrating a history of about 300 years, these quaint villages take you back in time. Our destination for the next two days is Bar Harbor where we get together tonight for a welcome drink hosted by our Tour Director, followed by a wonderful seafood dinner at a typical New England lobster bake. | 3 | Acadia National Park Excursion Our excursion begins with fabulous coastal scenery on our drive along the picturesque shoreline of Maine. Then we enjoy a visit to the spectacular, scenic Acadia National Park. During our tour of the park, we stop to enjoy the spectacular scenic panorama from Cadillac Mountain, the highest point along the New England coast. Afterwards, why not take an optional nature cruise on lovely Frenchman's Bay? (AB) |
| 4 | Bar Harbor - North Conway Today we travel across Maine to the wondrous beauty of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. On our arrival at Pinkham Notch, we enjoy an exciting highlight as we board the Wildcat Mountain Gondola for some incredible panoramic views. Later, we will enjoy a multi-media presentation on the ecology of the North Woods by a resident expert. Tonight, we'll enjoy dinner at a specially selected restaurant. (AB) (HD) |
| 5 | North Conway - Franconia Notch - Killington Our morning drive takes us through the White Mountains to Bretton Woods where the World Monetary Fund Conference met in July of 1944 in this beautiful resort setting. From here we continue to Franconia Notch and capture the views of the 'Old Man of the Mountain', which is shown on the state emblem of New Hampshire. It is a natural rock profile of amazing lifelike detail. Then we stop for sightseeing at Billings Farm and Museum in the pretty town of Woodstock for an inside look at Vermont's great agricultural heritage and the daily events of farm life in the 19th century. Finally, we make our way to Killington for the night where after our exciting day, dinner will be at the hotel. (AB D) |
| 6 | Killington - Fort Ticonderoga - Saranac Lake After breakfast we tour New York's Fort Ticonderoga at Lake Champlain. Dating back to 1755, when it was first built under the name of Fort Carillon, this was an important control point for the waterway traffic between Canada and what was then the American Colonies. Then we continue to the Adirondack Mountains before reaching Lake Placid, home of the 1980 Winter Olympics, where we will visit the Olympic Arena and Convention Center. This afternoon time is your own to do as you please. You may wish to join an optional excursion to visit the impressive Olympic ski jump tower, followed by a leisurely cruise on the still waters of Lake Placid. (AB D) |
| 7 | Saranac Lake - Albany - Springfield This morning we capture the sights of the towering Adirondacks once again and see picturesque Lake George as we continue on to Albany. The capital of New York State features many government buildings (only to be expected!) as well as several cultural attractions. We'll enjoy views of the Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza before we leave Albany again. Later, we arrive back in Massachusetts and travel to the Berkshire Mountains to visit the Norman Rockwell Studio and Museum, home of one of America's most famous and beloved artists. Sports fans will find it interesting that the game of basketball, which has spread across borders and nations around the world, was invented in 1892 at the college campus of the city where we have our last overnight stop, Springfield, Massachusetts. For our final evening, we will get together with our fellow traveling companions and Tour Director to enjoy a farewell dinner. (AB D) |
| 8 | Springfield - Depart Boston Today begins with a visit to two classic New England towns, both made famous in Paul Revere's famous midnight ride. We'll see the Minuteman statue and Old North Bridge in Concord, plus we visit the Green in Lexington, where British Redcoats and Minutemen exchanged the first shots of the American Revolution. From there, we take a quick tour of the campus of America's oldest college, Harvard. Then there is time for lunch in Cambridge before a brief ride through Boston, including the Back Bay and the Common. Afterwards, there will drop-offs at either the Omni Parker House Hotel or Logan International Airport. (AB) |
