Destination Weddings: Insider Scoop with Nicolle Kirk

Destination Weddings: Insider Scoop with Nicolle Kirk

Last Updated on June 22, 2020 by Amanda Stancati

Nicolle Kirk joined the team in 2007. She visited over 100 Caribbean resorts and specializes in destination weddings and group travel. She has sailed the largest ship on the Royal Caribbean-Allure of the Seas, jet skied in Bahamas, encountered sea lions in Los Cabos, paddle boarded on the Caribbean Sea, zip-lined in St. Lucia, and took a Gondola ride in Venice. Today, Nicolle shares her tips on planning destination weddings:

Budget – Choose a budget for yourself and your guests that you know will be affordable for everyone. The average price is $1500.00/per person and up.

Legal Requirements – Do you plan to get married legally in another country or have a symbolic wedding? Each country has different legal requirements.

Choose a Wedding Location – Do you want to get married on a beautiful white sandy beach, in the lush tropical rainforest, or a private garden gazebo?

Choose a Resort – Do you want a small intimate resort, a large complex with lots to do, a family-friendly resort or adults only?

Once you choose the resort, you need to choose a wedding package. Wedding packages start at $1800 and can be booked through the resort directly or the tour operator depending on the resort terms and conditions.

Best Time of Year  – The most popular months for destination weddings are November, January and April. April is the most popular as it is after the winter and before summer starts.

Best Time to Book – It depends on the size of the group. Most groups are 30 + people. On average I would say 10-12 months before the ideal departure date. Some tour operators cannot quote further then that as hotel contracts change on a yearly basis. This gives your guests enough time to save up for your big day!
