One of the best parts of a cruise is visiting several countries in a short time while only having to unpack your bags once! The down side is that your time to experience these different ports can be very limited, depending on your itinerary. There are many ways to spend a port day on your next cruise: shopping, partaking in an excursion, or simply relaxing on a beach. Regardless of your preference, here is a list of some of the most exciting things to do and experience at some of the most popular Caribbean cruise destinations to inspire you while planning your next trip!
Dunn’s River Falls – Ocho Rios, Jamaica
One of the biggest attractions when cruising to Jamaica is climbing up the 600-foot, stair-like waterfall. There are lots of guided tours available of the falls, and depending on your allotted time, some tours also include a swim with dolphins or snorkeling.
Ruins at Chacchoben – Costa Maya, Barbados
These mysterious ancient Mayan ruins are a sight to behold. There are several guided tours and excursions available at this 2000 year old site, with most ending your day with a relaxing drink at a local bar. The resort pools in this area are fantastic for swimming.
Parasailing – Freeport, Bahamas
There is no better view of the surrounding beaches and ocean than from a parasail. The crystal clear water even allows you to get a glimpse of the coral and marine life below the surface. Freeport is known for their parasailing tours and the amazing views they provide from above.
Maho Beach – St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles
This beach features an airport with a large runway just steps from the beach. All types of planes land here including the big jet liners. They are so close overhead it almost feels as though you can reach out and touch them. If you don’t mind the smell of jet fuel and want a more exciting beach to relax on, St. Maarten is definitely a great stop on your next southern Caribbean cruise.
Zip Lining – Belize, Barbados
For one of the best rainforest views and some high adrenaline thrills, zip lining is an awesome choice for an exciting port of call adventure. There are lots of options of zip line packages available – some even include swimming in a dark underground cave afterwards.
