Our travel agent Debbie Maguire tells us why she loves Paris…

Obviously everyone knows that Paris is the city of love….but did you know about LOVERS BRIDGE where couples lock their padlocks and throw the key into the water, symbolizing their locked love? How cool is that???

Of course, the food is amazing but doesn’t have to be expensive! I was surprised at how affordable it was to get a freshly baked, delicious baguette with cheese and lunch meats. Grab a bottle of wine and sit in one of the beautiful parks that are around every corner for less than the price of grabbing lunch at a fast food restaurant here in Canada!

There’s amazing shopping – from Champs -Elysees with all the designer brands to bargains galore in the massive Galeries Lafayette shopping mall located by the beautiful Opera House!  The mall is stunning and it’s a must to go to the rooftop terrace for a stunning view of the city…for free!  Plus if you are a non-European Union resident, you are entitled to claim back the 12% tax paid on purchases made at Galeries Lafayette!

There’s amazing architecture: Notre Dame, Palais Garnier, Pantheon, Les Invalides, Palais Royale and more!  You can always find talented artists along the banks of the Seine with the gorgeous paintings of the architecture.

In Paris you’ll also find museums around every corner housing some of the most famous artworks in the world, from the Mona Lisa in the Louvre to the National Musuem of Modern Art featuring artists like Picasso. Not to be missed is the Museum d’Orsay in a beautiful old train station on the banks of the Seine. Musée d’Orsay is just across from the Louvre, and effectively bridges the gap between pre-modern and modern artistic movements and traditions. Countless impressionist and expressionist masterpieces are held here including the works of Monet and Van Gogh.

Then just when you have fallen in love with the city during the day, you will be transported to another realm of wonder at night with all the beautiful lights shining bright at every corner! Taking a boat ride on the Seine River is another must do! Paris is so much more than just the Eiffel Tower!  Je t’aime Paris!
