Six ships are particularly worth circling on your calendar, from a Royal Caribbean giant that’s already sailing to a Disney ship we’re still waiting to see in full. Legend of the Seas — Royal Caribbean International

Debuted July 2026 · Guest capacity: 7,000 · 25+ cabin categories

Legend of the Seas is the third ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, following Icon of the Seas & Star of the Seas, and she officially entered service with a seven-night Western Mediterranean sailing round-trip from Rome on July 4, 2026. She’s now splitting her time between European summers (Barcelona & Rome) and Caribbean winters out of Fort Lauderdale, with Perfect Day at CocoCay built into most Caribbean itineraries.

What makes Legend stand apart from her Icon Class sisters isn’t size; it’s personality. The ship keeps the class’s signature “eight neighbourhoods” layout; think of it less like a single ship and more like eight linked resort zones, but with added dining and entertainment you won’t find on Icon or Star. Royal Railway – Legend Station is a five-course, train-themed dinner that follows Marco Polo’s route home from the Orient, course by course. Hollywoodland Supper Club leans into Golden Age glamour with live jazz and a multi-course menu. A new production of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory headlines the main theatre.

If you’re travelling with a big, mixed-age group including grandparents, teens, toddlers, and want everyone to find their own corner of the ship without ever feeling like you’re on separate vacations, Legend of the Seas is built exactly for that. It’s also a great pick if you want an Icon Class experience but prefer Mediterranean ports over the Caribbean. It’s less of a fit if you’re after a quiet, adults-focused sailing; with 7,000 guests onboard, this is resort-scale cruising, not a boutique experience.

Norwegian Aura — Norwegian Cruise Line

Launching 2027 · Guest capacity: 3,880 · 36 cabin categories

Norwegian Aura will be NCL’s longest and largest ship yet, debuting with a seven-night Mediterranean sailing from Trieste to Barcelona on May 21, 2027, before crossing the Atlantic to homeport in Miami for the Caribbean season.

The headline feature is Ocean Heights, a brand-new four-deck activity zone stretching across the top of the ship, home to more waterslides than any other NCL vessel, an 82-foot ropes course, a rock climbing wall, and a carnival-style midway with mini golf and games. Norwegian Aura also stretches the Prima Class’s signature outdoor spaces: Ocean Boulevard (the wraparound promenade) is longer than on her sister ships, Infinity Beach is bigger, and the adults-only Vibe Beach Club gets more room and a waterfall feature. The Haven, NCL’s suite-only enclave, gets its biggest expansion yet, the most Haven suites in the fleet, with a private sundeck, infinity pool, and dedicated restaurant.

Norwegian Aura is a strong match for travellers who want big-ship energy and a genuinely wide range of cabin types; 36 categories means there’s likely a sweet spot for almost any budget, from a studio to a Haven suite. It particularly suits groups who care about outdoor space and want daytime deck life to be a real event, not an afterthought. If your idea of cruising is quieter and more low-key, you may prefer a smaller, older NCL ship; Aura is designed to feel busy and energetic.

Celebrity Xcite — Celebrity Cruises

Launching 2028 · Guest capacity: 3,260 · 27 cabin categories

Celebrity Xcite is the sixth ship in Celebrity’s Edge Series, joining Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent, and the recently delivered Xcel. Construction began in late 2025 at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France. While Celebrity hasn’t released a homeport or itinerary yet, the ship will carry forward everything the Edge Series is known for: an outward-facing design where nearly every venue looks out at the ocean, abundant natural light, and the three-story Grand Plaza as the social heart of the ship.

Expect the now-signature Magic Carpet-style outdoor spaces, Infinite Veranda staterooms that blur the line between balcony and cabin, and the Retreat; Celebrity’s suite-class sanctuary with its own pool, restaurant, and lounge. As the newest Edge Series ship, Xcite should also refine those cabin categories, much like Xcel did before her.

Xcite is a great fit for couples and travellers who want a premium, adult-leaning atmosphere without going full luxury-line pricing; think elevated dining and design, without the scale of a 7,000-guest ship. It’s not the ship for a big multigenerational family reunion; Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class ships on this list are built for that instead.

Disney Believe — Disney Cruise Line

Launching late 2027 · Guest capacity: 4,000 · 26 cabin categories

Disney Believe is the fourth ship in Disney Cruise Line’s Wish Class, joining Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, & Disney Destiny. She was announced in early 2026 with a theme built around “promise and possibility,” drawing on stories like Frozen, Encanto, Moana, The Little Mermaid, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Like every Wish Class ship, Believe will have her own distinct personality rather than being a carbon copy of her sisters; each ship’s theme shapes everything from the entertainment lineup to the décor and dining concepts. Disney hasn’t released homeport or itinerary details yet, but as the newest addition to a rapidly growing fleet (Disney is on track for 13 ships by 2031), expect the full reveal to land well ahead of her debut.

• A brand-new theme means brand-new entertainment, dining, and character experiences you can’t get on any existing Disney ship

If you’re planning a family trip where Disney magic matters as much as the ocean does, Disney Believe is worth watching closely; new-ship excitement plus a fresh storytelling theme is a strong combination for first-time and repeat Disney cruisers alike. It’s a less natural fit if your travel companions aren’t especially drawn to Disney’s brand of theming, since that immersive storytelling is baked into nearly every part of the ship.

Hero of the Seas — Royal Caribbean International

Launching August 2027 · Guest capacity: 5,610 · 28 cabin categories

Hero of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s fourth Icon Class ship, arriving in Miami with an August 11, 2027 debut. Royal Caribbean has positioned her as “the hero of family vacations,” and the details back that up: nine pools (the most at sea on any ship), 28 dining venues, and a new three-deck Ultimate Family Treehouse suite that sleeps up to 12 guests with its own rooftop terrace and whirlpool.

New-to-fleet highlights include Coconut Cove, a Caribbean-themed pool with in-water loungers; an expanded adults-only Hideaway with two pools and what Royal Caribbean calls the largest swim-up bar at sea; and Orleans Parish Supper Club, a specialty restaurant built around live jazz featuring Cajun and Creole dishes. Regular season sailings are seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami, with a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay on every voyage.

Is this the right ship for you?

Hero is the pick for families, especially multigenerational ones wanting the biggest possible range of pools, kids’ spaces, and one showstopper suite everyone can share. If pure relaxation is the goal, the Hideaway’s adults-only pools give you an out, but this is still fundamentally a big, lively family ship. Couples looking for something quieter may be happier on Celebrity Xcite.

Icon 5 — Royal Caribbean International

Launching 2028 · Guest capacity: 5,610 · 28 cabin categories

Icon 5 is the fifth confirmed ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, the same class as Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas, Legend of the Seas, and the Hero of the Seas. Royal Caribbean confirmed the order in September 2025 alongside a decade-long shipbuilding extension with Finland’s Meyer Turku, and construction is now underway for delivery in 2028. The name, homeport, and itinerary haven’t been announced yet; that’s typically one of the last pieces of the puzzle to be revealed before a ship’s debut.

What we do know is that she’ll carry the Icon Class DNA: the “eight neighbourhoods” concept, the largest waterparks at sea, record-setting entertainment venues, and the fleet’s now-signature blend of resort relaxation and theme-park-style thrills. Each new Icon Class ship has also introduced its own tweaks with new dining concepts, new suite types, new attractions, so expect Icon 5 to bring something the earlier ships don’t have, the way Legend added Royal Railway and Hollywoodland Supper Club.

Since so many details are still unannounced, this is best suited to travellers who are comfortable booking on reputation and class, and who want to lock in early access rather than wait for every detail to be public.
