For this edition of Insider Scoop, I will be sharing my experience from a long weekend stay for a business conference at The Rosseau, a JW Marriot Resort & Spa. This was a great weekend getaway and I would recommend this resort to business travelers, families, and couples alike. The drive up from the city is very scenic and familiar to those who have driven to Muskoka cottages in the past.

(Q) What was your favorite part of this hotel?
(A) Hands down the location and property. It is like a summer cottage vacation with the amenities of a resort. The lake is amazing and there are tons of walking trails that take you throughout the woods surrounding the property for some great nature watching.
(Q) What is the atmosphere like?
(A) High class elegance, from the service to the décor, everything is extravagant but still retains a cozy and relaxed cottage vibe throughout the resort.
(Q) What about the rooms?
(A) I was lucky enough to stay in a corner suite on the top floor. The room was massive and had a fully equipped kitchen complete with pots, pans, everything to cook your own gourmet meals, great for families. The bathrooms were massive and very nicely designed. My room didn’t face the lake but I can imagine those offer some amazing views.

(Q) Can you describe the dining options that were available?
(A) Cottages was my favorite restaurant, the breakfast there was especially great. There is the Teca Italian restaurant that you will most likely have to make a reservation for and it was always packed the weekend I was there. The lobby bar was my hangout spot and the Grand Marnier they serve in a warmed up glass kept me coming back each night. There is also an outdoor lunch grill The Deck that is great for open air takeout dining. I also ate at the nearby golf course The Rock’s restaurant and had the best Arnold Palmer cocktail I have ever tasted.
(Q) What activities are offered at this resort?
(A) Swimming and relaxing in one of the many pools The Rosseau has to offer was my favorite pass time, or going on nature walks on the trails around the resort is great for some nature photography. There are tons of deer to see in the forest and other wildlife. There is boating activities available and if you have your own boat you can dock it here. The launch is a short drive away with easy access. There is also a spa but that is not my thing so I never went.

(Q) What is unique about this resort?
(A) Definitely the cottage vibe is the most unique thing about it. The whole time you feel like it’s a cottage long weekend but instead of roughing it in the woods and using an outhouse you are surrounded by pure luxury. What an amazing way to experience Muskoka and an awesome alternative to renting a cottage for a long weekend summer getaway in Ontario.
