Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Wonderful Family Vacation
We spent a week at Grand Sirenis as a family of four in March, and overall we had a fantastic vacation. We have two teenage girls, and they absolutely loved this resort. The beach was not great during our stay, but we can’t fault the resort for that as there was a major sargassum issue throughout Mexico at the time of our trip. The resort itself is huge, so be prepared to do a lot of walking, which we personally didn’t mind. The pools were all great, and the lazy river was AMAZING. The food was surprisingly good, especially at the buffets. There were endless options, and everything was fresh and delicious. The only disappointment was how difficult it was to get reservations at the à la carte restaurants. We were able to try the steakhouse and the Italian restaurant, and both were very good. The entertainment was excellent. There were lots of fun activities around the pools during the day, live music in different areas of the resort in the evenings, and nightly shows in the theatre (some better than others, of course). The White Party on the beach Saturday night, complete with a fire show, was fantastic. There was also lots of wildlife around the resort. Seeing the monkeys every morning was definitely a highlight! Our only real negative comment was the pool chair situation. Like many resorts, people had to get up very early to reserve chairs by the pool. It’s disappointing that this continues to be such a common issue at resorts, because it takes away from the relaxing vacation atmosphere when you feel pressured to wake up early just to secure a shaded spot. Many reserved chairs sat empty for hours, sometimes until the afternoon. Overall, we had a wonderful family vacation and would definitely recommend this resort, especially for families with teens.

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Average Resort
We made the best our our week at Grand Sirenis. This resort should definitely not be rated high. The food was not the best. There was no consideration for dietary needs. My friend got food poisoning for two days. We found the pools to be very dirty and the majority of the pool is fairly deep. One day the shallow pool had throw up in it. The employees are wonderful, especially Ana at the buffet and Anthony at the front bar. They do have shows in the evening, however everything pretty much shuts down by 11:00. It would be nice to be able to dance or have a bit of night life. The resort is huge so if you have mobility issues, I would avoid this one.

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Decent resort
This was the biggest resort i have ever been to, saying that i guess i just expected more from it. The seaweed was rolling in and they did not clean the beach only the small area in front of the executive section. Other resorts along this stretch had tractors that cleaned the beaches. There was a ton of cigarette butts in the sand as well. I didnt like the tour operators were at the pool the entire time trying to sell excursions (dont hassel me while im on vacation) we did some a la cart reservations was not a fan of the italian my pasta was like eating a soup it was all sauce i had to search for my pasta. We saved the steak place for last and was extremely dissapointed. And hour and a half wait (people were leaving ) for our food to arrive, and again was not very good. The game galaxy was closed the entire time. Be warned if you check in before 3pm they charge you a $40 fee for early check-in , that only gives you the bracelet so that you are allowed into the resort. If you refuse to pay the $40 usd you are told that you can wait outside the resort.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: 2nd time still a charm
It has been 10 years since we have been here. It still aims to please. The room is great spacious good air-conditioning well appointed. The food was good. The à la carte restaurants were underwhelming. No better than the buffet. Beautiful grounds and meticulously kept. The monkeys, coatis, raccoons and iguanas are always entertaining. If you appreciate premium alcohol you will be disappointed here. The only downside was the water temperature of the pools-felt warmer than body temperature; couldn’t cool off. And of course the sargassum prevented you from going in the ocean.

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Stunning grounds, unhelpful staff
Grand Sirenis is an absolutely beautiful resort. Everywhere you look, it is picture perfect. There are very tall palm trees and beautiful flowers everywhere. It is very spacious and the kids never got bored. Anywhere you go, no matter the time of day, you can find chairs! There are many bars all around the resort and always food available. Food was good but not a ton of variety. I changed rooms 3 times. Many many problems with my rooms including a wasp nest making it impossible to get in and out of my room. Also, they fed me sunflower seeds (I am allergic) in the Italian restaurant resulting in a visit by the doctor. They even asked my allergies and fed it to me anyways. I asked many many times over several days to have towels, a mattress for the pull out, to fix my fridge and safe. I didnt even bother with the broken hair dryer. The girl on the phone to the lobby would just hang up on me, it was unreal. Finally stuff got done when I left a note for the maid in Spanish and a big tip. Although there were lots of problems, I would actually still recommend the resort! It was a very relaxing vibe and the scenery was the most stunning I have seen, and I have been to many places! No one in our group got sick minus the allergy mishap, but we did use sanitizer before every meal. The kids had the best time. I would return here (knowing to go right to the manager for problems and be pushy about solutions). If you are easy going and things roll off your shoulder, you'll have a good time. If the little things bother you and you want a perfect room, maybe not the best for you!

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Wonderful resort
Very beautiful resort spread out with many walking paths to different areas. Great pool areas with bars and lounge chairs. The resort included many restaurants with a large variety of food. A desk with two concierge staff is located on the main floor of each building and we found them to be the nicest and most helpful you could ask for. The beach area left a bit to be desired as the sargassum was quite bad but the staff were working hard on that issue. A lot of wildlife for those interested in seeing small animals. Overall a beautiful holiday location with great staff who couldn't do enough for you.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Family of 5 trip to The Grand Sirenis
We had a fabulous holiday over March break. Although there was a lot of hype about the sargassum at the beach, this did not hinder our trip. Maybe because we live on the East Coast of Canada, we know that beaches have a ‘smell’ and seaweed happens. We layed by the beach regardless and snorkeled in the protected cove near the ruin. The hotel staff worked tirelessly to remove the sargassum, and still more came in each day. Oh well. The water is blue, the sand is white, the weather is gorgeous and drinks are brought to you anytime/anywhere. We spent our mornings at the beaches everyday. We did at least one lazy river ride each day and often several per day, we never had to wait for inner tubes. Meandering through the jungle with a drink in hand, watching the wildlife and connecting with my teenagers was amazing! The food … wow. The food was incredible and there was so much variety. I’m a ‘mean’ mom, and my kids were raised to eat “all the foods” … and they did. My 15 year old, made it his mission to bring some unknown food to try at every meal. Proud mom moment. I can’t imagine anyone not finding “something” they like … and if they don’t, I feel like that’s a YOU problem. The staff were incredible at all buffets and we made several friends who we had to take photos with at the end of the stay. Our concierge in the lobby of our block (1440) was fabulous and booked everything. The Al La carte’s were delicious. We ate at the Mexican, Butcher’s and Tepanyaky show cooking and every restaurant was a hit. Again, our three kids are not fussy eaters, so even the cucumber and seaweed salad was devoured in seconds! The drinks were excellent and always flowing. My youngest (9) loved moseying up to the swim-up bar to order his daily strawberry daiquiris, pina coladas and mango breezes. The adults enjoyed mojitos, seaside sangria, Paloma’s and Hawaiian breezes (among many others). The wildlife and jungle scenery were highlights. We loved seeing the geckos, iguanas, white nose cotis, raccoons and of course the monkeys (outside the breakfast buffets) … but do us a favour and DON’T feed the wildlife. Several people brought fruit from the buffet and then staff had to intervene. The monkeys especially become aggressive when they are being fed and too familiar with people. If they “hurt” someone by accident - we all know what will happen to them. Yeah, it’s cute to get a photo of them eating your apple - but then you ruin it for everyone. Also - clean up your plates at the pools. The more familiar the animals are and bugging guests - they will be removed. If you love animals and want to enjoy them - PLEASE DON’T FEED THEM! The evening entertainment was awesome (some people said it was lame - maybe compared to Broadway or the Ballet… but enjoy it for what it is). We watched countless practices during the day. These dancers are trying their best. Have a drink and enjoy the show. We watched The Lion King, the cabaret/broadway one and the around the world (I forget the proper names). They were all fun and enjoyable (but yes, I’m from a big city and have seen higher quality entertainment - so what?!). The market /artisan booths. Thursday nights only. We arrived at 8pm on Thursday and didn’t purchase anything not realizing that would be our only opportunity. The stores out front by the OXXO have lovely staff and reasonable trinkets. The pools. We loved all three pools. I forget the names. But the one outside “salt and nut” seemed rowdy. lol. We stayed near the one out front of Butchers. (Our preference). Also the quiet pool snaking through the jungle was amazing. Reserve your loungers with towels before breakfast if you want a spot. The lazy river was enjoyed by everyone! The kids club. … uuummm… kinda lame. It’s inside, so for our fair skinned 9 year old, a few hours outside of the sun was great. I thought/hoped it would be more activities, but it was iPads and video games :(. But the staff were lovely and take the kids for a walk for lunch each day. The kiddie pool out front needs to be parent supervised - so not the kids-club fun we had hoped for. Oh well, I’m the parent, so I parented. The beach bar b que and lunches were fun and delicious. Try to catch paella day if you can!!! Tips: we brought many 50 peso bills and tipped every few drinks. It’s not expected but appreciated. We tipped $150 pesos at suppers. Maybe you get better service, but genuine kindness will also earn you great service. Our rooms were fabulous. Fourth floor, at the absolute farthest villa away from anywhere - so we walked - A LOT. The rooms were clean, large and the air conditioning was excellent. We leaned some key Spanish phrases while we were there, and the staff seems delighted that we were trying. I would certainly recommend this property. It was a third Mexican vacation and first time to Sirenis. We thought it was wonderful. Previously stayed at Bahia Prinicpe and Palladium for reference.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Great Resort
My husband and I spent two wonderful weeks at the Grand Sirenis in Mexico. We just wanted to rest as I injured my knee and could not walk for long. We spent time at the pool and the beach. The sea weed was really bad so I did not go into the ocean. My husband went in to refresh himself and said the water wasn't very deep and there were tons of fish. We tried all the a la carte restaurants and most were really good. The spa was great. The concierge staff were wonderful team 5 helped us book the restaurants, spa and made sure the shuttle were called to get us around the property due to my sore knee. We had 2 weeks of sun and feel refreshed. Just returned in time for more snow. We will definitely return to the resort in the future.

Grand Sirenis Cartagena: Not a resort yet
This hotel is quite nice and close to the beach but was lacking service. We had to go get our own drinks at the bar and we’re not asked if we would like more at all. Even taking our own dirty glasses up to bar and get refills. Bartenders did not know how to make many drinks and each bar was a different experience The food was excellent every night and had a great variety of different food options every day ,and the scenery and sights were awesome. There were very few workers who spoke English and they lacked restocking guests fridges The rooms were clean and maid did a decent job. There was very little entertainment other than dj and one evening had a singer for a couple hours. They seem to cater much more to the locals that were coming in. The one light was a young girl named Laura who was very helpful. She had to help the air Transat rep sell our excursion as the rep spoke very little English. You had to find all of your own transportation they had nothing going on a regular schedule to the city or the marina for excursions.it would be better to be picked up at the hotel for these. I would go back to Columbia again in the future as it is quite beautiful. Near the end of our visit some owner and managers showed up and things seemed to get a bit better. Finally had the cards for food names with English as well They didn’t have a good selection of options for beer and absolutely no rye whiskey and had to fight for cans of light beer that they only wanted to serve in rooms if you badgered the staff to bring them They usually never came No map or cards to make visitors aware of restaurants or service hours only one card at front desk Pools were clean and all areas were kept clean and tidy. If you want quiet and not too many people it was that as it seemed there was only maybe 25 percent occupancy even though they said they were fully booked Large amount of construction right next door worker Monday to Friday

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Great Resort
This resort has a lot going for it. Situated south of Playa del Carmen. Hotel is modern, and recently renovated. Rooms are clean, bright and spacious. Great shower, ample hot water and great water pressure. Bar with modest selection of soft drinks and beer serviced daily. Concierges book as many a la cartes as you wish. Food is above average, with surprising availability of quality steaks, cooked to perfection. We enjoyed t bone, rib, striploin and tenderloin. We have been to Mexico a dozen times, including twice previous to this resort, and never had food as good. The prime evening buffet has a great selection of food (although seemed always the same). Of note to us, the a la cartes served decent Spanish Red Wines at room temperature, and you could request same at the bars, although you might not get it there. Grounds are sprawling, and well maintained with lots of natural vegetation. Expect to see lots of birds and animals including coati, racoons, squirrels, agouti and monkeys, which unfortunately have become acclimatized to human interaction. Pools are clean, with ample lounges, except quiet pool which sees lots of pressure. Beach is ok. Struggle to keep up with the Sargassum. Interesting rock outcrops. Beach bbq lunches great! Lazy River is a fun bonus. Entertainment was ok.

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: Fabulous Resort
We choose Grand Sirenis because of the beach, pools and Lazy River. The staff, food and room always exceeds our expectations. We also enjoy looking at the wildlife on site. The night and daytime entertainment are great. We watched the fire show on the beach and the Lion King at the theatre. We spent our days on the beach and they had Valentines Day entertainment one day and a fabulous 3 piece band another day. We also enjoyed swimming in the ocean and snorkeling. This was our 6th visit to the resort with our friends and we will be going again this April with family and friends.

THE BEACH WAS BEAUTIFUL ALTHOUGH HOTEL STAFF MADE NO EFFORT TO REMOVE EXCESS SEAWEED AFTER STORMS. THE HOTEL IS STYLISH ALTHOUGH OLDER AND KEPT CLEAN. THE ROOMS WERE NICELY LAID OUT ALTHOUGH WE DID SEE ROACHES AS DID OUR FRIENDS. WE WERE MOVED TO THE NEXT BUILDING AFTER 2 DAYS FOR SOME CHEMICAL WORK THEY CALLED IT WHERE WE SAW MORE ROACHES WITH A SEWAGE SMELL THAT SEEMED TO COME FROM PLUMBING. THE BUFFETT WAS ADEQUATE BUT THE ALLA CARTE MENU WAS MUCH BETTER. THE PORTIONS WERE VERY GOOD AND THEY OFFERRED STEAK AND SALMON WHICH WERE COOKED PERFECTLY. ALL THE STAFF WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND WORK VERY HARD .WE WERE NOT HAPPY WITH THE SUNWING REP WHO REFUSED TO ACCEPT OUR INITIAL TRANSFER REQUEST TO NEXTDOOR HOTEL DUE TO THE ROACHES. SHE WANTED MORE MONEY REGARDLESS OF PRICING FOR NEXT DOOR ACTUALLY BECAME CHEAPER. SHE REDIRECTED OUR COMPAINT TO JEANETTE WHO SEEMED TO BE THE HOTEL TROUBLE SHOOTER. JEANETTE WORKD VERY HARD TO TRY AND MAKE IT UP TO US ALTHOUGH THIS DEFERRAL WAS NOT FAIR TO HER. SUNWING REP SHOULD HAVE DELT WITH US. I WOULD RATE THIS AS A FOUR STAR AT BEST IF THEY GET RID OF THE ROACHES

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: Great Resort
Positives: - Grounds: great set-up, nice environment (vegetation, wildlife, etc.), well kept; - Food: big variety for all tastes and requirements, fresh, clean eating places; - Beach: excellent: sandy, in a little gulf thus protected of big waves and warmer; - Service: Personnel very friendly and helpful. Negatives: - People allowed to sell (black market ?) pot and other drugs on the beach while smoking themselves those products, which is annoying for non drug consumers like me; - Concierges and other personnel insisting too hard on customers taking promotional presentations for time-sharing packages, etc. All in all it was worth the money, looking forward to coming back in the future

This is our 2nd time to this resort! The grounds are beautiful, the beach fantastic! The rooms were spacious, clean and bright! Showers were amazing with lots of hot water and pressure. There were no food shortages although much the same each day. But that's Cuba. And the al la cartes were wonderful. The steaks, fish portions were large. Some observations were that the maintenance staff are in great need for even the basic tools, ie screwdrivers, pliers, etc, . A con was that a lot of bathrooms were closed.

Grand Sirenis Cartagena: "A Wonderful Escapade Away From Snow & Stress"
The Grand Sirenis Hotel has a welcoming and well designed structural appearance. The grounds are well maintained and the colourful cascading bouganvilleas and other flowering trees/plants adorn the grounds and the interior building beautifully. The public areas are constantly kept clean as the maintenace staff work on these areas regularly and the lighting is adequate. This is evident also in the dining areas and the rooms. ********************************************************************** Firstly, Sarah and I thank you for preparing our tickets to this South American country, Cartagena, Colombia, which we gather is a new Air Canada (AC) route. The AC staff handled accessibility passengers (Sarah and me) flying in/out very caringly in Toronto. Cartagena is a picturesque city with exciting events as you also mentioned. The beautiful coastline of beaches showcasing colourful umbrellas and cabanas, was a sight to behold as we drove to/from the hotel. We took a cab and strolled to the Walled City and Getsemani among other places, wherein the streets were adorned with their arts and culture merchandise. We got some brilliant and colourful scenes e.g. Palenqueras and wall murals. We tried to make the best of our vacation. Sarah and I have travelled to many countries over the years with minimal concerns. However, there were some issues that were not addressed to us seniors on this trip. Eden, we will endeavour to mention what our mini adventures were: "Check-Mig" form must be submitted between 72 hours and one hour before departure. We spent undue time completing this form as the site was unreliable. We constantly got "kicked out" with a "402" error and had to resubmit many times as the data we input reverted to incorrect information. Stressful and frustrating! When we arrived at the Grand Sirenis Hotel,we got our keys and first entered a "moldy-smelling" room not easily accessible on the ground floor. We discovered a queen size bed for 2 but needed 2 twin beds. However, we took action and approached the Front Reception Desk personnel (FRDP), who moved us to the third floor. Again another "smelly" room with a queen size bed. We were not pleased and returned to FRDP. On this occasion, we were given a third room which was fortunately located on the ground floor, easily accessible with a mini fridge and safe with twin beds. This was to be our home away from home for 7 days. Guess what! Due to the visits and time duration ensuring we were well equipped, it was late and we were tired. Before going to bed, we deserved a shower to discover we had only two hand towels and a bathmat, which we used until the next morning. What other surprises await us! The following days were spent on the beach walking and enjoying the sunny weather and/or meeting visitors/guests imbibing blue margaritas, mojitos, coffee and agua in the two/three bars. This too was somewhat disappointing as often the drinks were "watered down" or there was a lack of ingredients: Rum! ginger ale, beer, etc. The bartenders/servers were not knowledgeable enough to make the drink concoctions, so we freely advised them what was needed. We had the pleasure of an A La Carte evening dinner and our expectations were not met as at the 8:30 p.m. seating, the meals requested were no longer available in Entradas, the Main Course and Dessert. Also, the drinks!!! This was devastating! On this special occasion, we were celebrating a meeting for the first time. As luck would have it, we left the hotel early for downtown, skipped lunch and returned for an appetizer before our Grand Dinner at 8:30 p.m. Thank goodness, there were guests who were liberally sharing information re free shuttle bus service availability. We had read on-line and through TripAdvisor that there was this service. We enquired but were not told about this service and went twice to/from the hotel and paid different fees for this service, where none of the drivers was English speaking. Our Air Canada representative, Christian met us at the airport. He was very curt/abrupt with little public relations expertise. This was the first and last we saw of him. It is true, he told us to contact him if we had questions or needed assistance, but nothing more. I think at least he could have given us a 15-minute welcome presentation when he dropped us off and mentioned how to travel into town, what was available and to whom at the hotel we can direct our questions to obtain favorable answers. We know this info may be available on-line, but some seniors are not tech-savvy. We finally found an information screen on our walking path through the corridors. The screen was usually off when we first approached it. When lit, the advertisement moved fast to take a photo and to know what activities were available for the day. The info shown was only in Spanish. The daily itinerary for the hotel activities could be easily displayed on our tv sets upon opening. Also, it would be appreciated if they had other information on the tv: checkout information, layout of the hotel areas, how to access tv in your language of choice, special events to attend, etc... The meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner) were satisfactory but replenishing the empty trays. Was this due to lack of staff? or out of stock? The food crew appeared short staffed on certain days as it took some time to get a cup of COLOMBIAN java to start. One of their biggest exports after emeralds - Coffee! The cleaning staff was better equipped and were always welcoming. We recommend a Hospitality Desk for a communicative, pleasant, knowledgeable part-time staff/college volunteer student for a minimum of 2 hours in the morning and 1 hour following lunch, simply to handle key questions as the FRDP is busy with incoming/outgoing tourists. Eden, in totality, it was a good holiday with a rating of 6/7 of 10. We encouraged them to learn English and helped them with a few key words to remember. This email is to mainly highlight where some weaknesses exist and how to better manage for an efficient and smooth running of a big hotel to be one of the best in the world.

We were not impressed with the lack of food choice but we understand this is Cuba. Pizza bar never opened. The hotel lacked maintenance particularly the general public washrooms. Many were closed and locked In our suite the safe did not work. Balcony door didn’t lock. The elevator and room doors all needed a good cleaning. We stayed here for a week in December. The food options were amazing, all the employees were friendly and helpful. The resort was beautiful, easy to walk around but shuttles were offered frequently! So much wild life, we saw monkeys 5/7 days we were there! Beach was small, you couldn’t walk along it and rocky water but there were lots of sandy areas up higher for the chairs.

The hotel was ok the rooms were crowded and there were ants. The beach was not clean at all the see weed was in mountains definitely not maintained and the hotel did not even try. The beach was terrible if you are looking for a resort with a pool and beach this is not it. The pool area was large but since the beach was not enjoyable everybody was at the pool area which made it crowed and the water dirty. The slide area for kids was not well maintained and most of the slides caused bruising or scrapes when trying to go down the kids only used the area twice out of 7 days.

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: A little disappointing
Family of 6. 3 rooms booked. Buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner were good. Wish the dinner buffet would switch up themes as there’s only one buffet for dinner. When we arrived we went to Book restaurants and they had nothing available. Which was super disappointment because we were there celebrating a birthday. Which they knew and did nothing for or about. We did end up booking the Asian, Mexican and carnal. Two of us got sick from the habacchi restaurant and Mexican restaurant early in the week.We frequent Mexico sometimes twice a year and never have sickness so this was a red flag for me so we just stuck to what we know and cancelled the other restaurant we had booked at the end of the week. The menus for the restaurants were not great either. AC stopped working In one of the rooms. It took 3 days to finally move rooms. Resort is big but leads you to a whole lot of nothing. Beach was disappointing I know that’s not in their control but the pictures online were still very deceiving and they weren’t really doing much to clean up UNLESS you are a member of course and their side of the beach is spotless…Rooms were ok. Ants everywhere. No hot water in our last day as we all had to take freezing showers to be ready for the airport. I believe there was still none when we left. Pool service was very few and far between every single day. Tip or no tip. Pools were ok. Nothing crazy. All of them quite far apart. We didn’t visit one pool they had at all. The resort is big but then the pool areas for sitting around the pools are very small? If that makes sense. We had to be up at 730 To get a spot you really want. The monkeys were adorable if you get to see them so that was a highlight. Very far from the airport which we knew as we’ve stayed at the Bahia principe akumal but for some reason this travel felt so long. It was going to take 2.5 hours back to the airport and getting up at 5am for that transportation or of course pay $50 for private 6am transport and it take 1.5 so we paid it obviously. They do have a room tax of $17 USD when you check in. I also paid the departure tax before arriving in Mexico which I have to say I’ve NEVER done. No one asked me about it … so that was $140 for all 6 of us probably down the drain. All in all won’t be back but we never double dip resorts anyways but definitely the more disappointing one.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: 10 Days Of Heaven
This was our 10th time at the resort. Fully renovated. There are some quirks to smooth out. The food was great but the buffet had the same spread throughout the entire 10 days. The beach was quiet but the seaweed was not managed so it was very smelly and very little swim area.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Family vacation
Large hotel, rooms are nice but everything is digital, we had lots of issues with our rooms, wifi not working, phone not working etc needed to be reset in both rooms. Bathroom flooded. It was difficult to book the a la cart restaurants if you had 2 rooms you couldn’t use the app, needed to book with concierge and all good choices were fully booked. Room service took 2 hours to arrive. Grounds were nice and well kept. The beach is not the best, quite small not a great place to walk the beach, lots of sargassum. I’ve stayed at places with much nicer beaches. Pools were nice and lazy river was nice.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Nice hotel, but watch your wallet
It's a nice hotel, but when we got off the plane and passed through security, we were directed to a person who tried to offer us a "deal." We later learned it was a scam for a timeshare. When we arrived at the hotel, they informed us about the scam—yet ironically, they then sent us to their own timeshare presentation. Also, we messaged the shuttle bus the day before our departure as instructed, but the person in charge was off that day. You’d think they would have reached out first thing in the morning, knowing we were trying to coordinate a ride to the airport—but they didn’t. As a result, we missed the shuttle, and the coordinator could only suggest we take a cab or risk missing our flight. It ended up costing us $100 USD for a cab to the airport.

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: Fantastic resort!
First off the people that work here are so friendly, helpful and appreciative of a small tip. Not saying this because it makes up for other shortcomings as everything is truly is top notch at this resort. We have been to over 20 all inclusive resorts over the years and this has to be one of the best experiences we have had. The food on the buffet is tasty and plentiful and there is enough selection you would be fine all week without the specialty restaurants, but they are also very good, in particular the Carnal had amazing food and the entertainment was a bonus. The restaurants and bars all appear to have been recently updated and are unique and beautiful. The bars are well staffed and you hardly wait for a drink at any of them. They also all seem to be happy to make specialty drinks upon request and do it well. The public bathrooms are all updated and kept very clean which is a bonus. Lazy river is also a nice touch. Beach is sandy until you get to the water and then there is coral so water shoes might be recommended for kids but overall it is very scenic and relaxing. Rooms were spacious and comfortable as well. The resort is spread out but we like to get some steps in so that was not an issue for us, you can also get a ride on the golf carts pretty much anywhere which is an option. Overall truly a 5 star experience, wish it was closer to the airport but definitely worth it and will likely head back here before trying another resort as you cannot beat it as far as bang for your buck!

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Great Resort
This resort was excellent. I would highly recommend it. The staff was friendly and the grounds were clean and well maintained. The food was top notch, lots of variety. There was lots of entertainment. My only complaint is the plumbing system needs to be fixed. We were instructed by our travel rep on our first day not to flush our toilet paper. We were told to wrap and put in the garbage can and then flush for fear of a backup problem due to the plumbing system not being adequate That should never be a problem if a hotel is rated 5 stars.

We had a wonderful week at Sirenis. We stayed in a junior suite in the main building. Our room was clean and spacious for the three of us. The staff, were all amazing. From the front desk, bell boys, housekeeping, bar and wait staff! They all made sure we had a great time. The food was really good! We ate at the Italian a la carte twice, and was great both times. You have to be at the lobby for 9am to book your a la cartes. The weather was nice, however lots of wind kept us out of the ocean most days, but the pools did the trick on those days. I will definitely be back!!

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: Beautiful Resort
A very large property and having shuttle carts was necessary and welcomed. Plenty of water areas and food options. The hotel staff were very friendly and polite. They were always eager to help in any way. The most negative thing was our room. The A/C was broken. Several attempts were have to fix it. The last night was the only cool night. The patio door was extremely hard to open and l couldn’t use the nice tub because the plug was not working. The traffic noise was also an annoyance. Just to let you know the Sunwing reps were rude and not concerned about the excursions l had booked or if l asked them anything they wouldn’t giver me the time of day. If it wasn’t for the excellent concise staff we wouldn’t have had a good experience. We actually joined the Ultimate Club. We enjoyed all that the hotel had to offer except our room !!! Also Sunwing overbooked seats and l had to pay for the lady two seats.

Very good value for the money...my second time there. May go again. Love the Rocky beach with the fish swimming all around you...but bring water shoes...the free dolphin show so good, that we walked back to see it a second time. Spa is a nice treat, but staff were poor. The only place in the resort we found rude staff. Front desk staff inexperienced or very limited training, but all other staff are wonderful! Restaurants staff and food were wonderful...I didn't like that they used the same placemats over and over again, and would put the clean cutlery on them...yuk! Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Terrific Suite!
We traveled from January 21-28, 2025 and it was our first time at the Sirenis tropical. The lobby was beautiful and the resort had two different sections of different pool styles for you to enjoy. À la carte restaurants were good, but not spectacular. Buffet always had lots of fresh fruit and cheese, real eggs and bacon every day! Our junior suite was on the fifth floor in the main building and the bed was the most comfortable stay we’ve ever had in Cuba so far. Would recommend this resort for a mix of people traveling as a family or on a romantic getaway. Staff as usual, always so attentive and smiling! A solid four star resort in my opinion and I have traveled to Cuba nine times.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Not bad… Not great
Shuttles are tricky with this very large resort. No schedule at the stops, so it’s hit or miss. Food was lukewarm at best most of the time at the buffets. A la cartes were very good. Staff are incredibly nice and efficient. Lots of chairs at pools and beach. Never a problem there. Jacuzzi in our room was stained dirty. No amount of cleaning would fix it. Refused to use it. Ground right in. Bathroom sink fixtures same way. Main room though where bed is was spotless. Entertainment was not bad. Not great, but it was ok.

This hotel was amazing. 1. The food at the buffet was surprisingly good. I never put much stock in buffets, but the ones we attended had lots of variety. Wait staff were terrific - especially Julio and Monika at the main buffet. 2. The grounds were beautiful. They are very well maintained and tidy. We were able to walk for several kilometers each day. 3. Our rooms were perfect. Cleaning and towel replacement was well done each day (thanks Manuela!!) And we got a towel "animal", complete with a set of eyes and a smile, every day. 4. We were only able to have 2 a la cartes - Mexican (Pueblito Lindo) and Italian (Restaurante Tonino) - both were magnificent!

The food was not great and it was a walk to get to anything. I didn’t appreciate them trying to sell their timeshare service. Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Will not go back!
Sirenis is a very rundown and broken resort. Please don’t recommend this place… When we got to the room we noticed the bedding was not clean. One of our friends toilet was broken and water ran through the room, from the flusher. They asked for another room and were told no as they were full.. this was not true. Very few people here. After the mechanic came 3x’s to fix it I fixed it with a towel so they could use it. Our tv was not working so the mechanic came the cord was ripped off the back. He may have fixed it but he took the batteries so we will never know.. We had 2 cockroaches ? in our room… There was an entire bank of lights leading to our room out, never got fixed. This was a safety issue.. A large window was broken (not boarded up) with shards of glass for anyone to get cut on.. We will never go back to this resort…

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Incredible Family Vacation!
The Grand Sirenis in Cayo Santa Maria was a dream! Being there the first week of July was amazing. It is a resort that has a capacity of about 1600 and we visited when there were only about 250 other visitors. There were no lines for food or drinks. The staff was pleasant and took the time for all of the families! Our family had two rooms across the hall from each other in Bungalow 2 and they were both clean and cheery! Modern decor and air conditioning was working 100%! The beach was stunning! Calm waters all hours of the day. We all went snorkeling and saw tons of fish, star fish and little stingrays. The walk along the beach is peaceful and gorgeous. The entertainment staff at the Grand Sirenis went above and beyond for its guests! Caesar was always around for a great time! The evening shows were typical of Cuba and what others in 1st world countries would call low budget but the time and efforts the singers and dancers put into them was absolutely outstanding! Our family and many others were very thrilled with each event! The disco was fun too! We as parents felt very comfortable while our three teens stayed out in the evenings. They met so many others in their age group who also loved to dance the nights away! The foam party on the beach was a huge hit! The beach bar was super fun and Alex kept the drinks cold and coming! The beach grill was always hot and plentiful. Beach Volleyball happened at 10:30 every morning and all the teens were ready for action! Lester and Angel lead a 15 minute water aerobics session after volleyball! Afternoon pool parties and Bingo were a blast! Bartender Josyvic was a joy to have around all day! The drinks were always flowing and so were the jokes! Everyone asked about the food… it was awesome. No shortages. Always found something to fill your tummy. The snack bar was always bumping for the kids. We as a family tried two A La Carte restaurants and agree to “just always order the chicken dish” Cato Santa Maria is a place for family fun on the beach! We will definitely return as we have found a new home away from home!

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Resort currently under renovation
We have visited this resort annually since 2016, minus the covid years. The grand sirenis is currently undergoing a full scale renovation. 50% of the resort is currently closed to all guests. This means no courtesy showers or change rooms are available anymore if you have a late flight. They will not offer a courtesy room either. The resort plans to have the first stage of the renovation completed this Fall 2024 in time for the busy season. Once phase 1 is completed phase 2 begins by closing the second half of the resort until completed mid to late 2025. This closure during our stay , the first two weeks of May, caused power outages and low water pressure. With minimal staff to perform speedy repairs the failing a/c unit in our room made for unpleasant evenings with an evening low temperature between 24-27c. Would not recommend this resort until all renovations have been completed. However check pricing. The owners of grand sirenis plan on moving this resort from star classification to diamond rating which means a substantial increase to the pricing as well once all renovations are complete.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Beautiful Resort
This was our 3rd visit to this resort and even though half of it was under renovations it did not disappoint. Our room was large, kept clean by housekeeping, with good A/C, shower and a comfy bed. The food at the A la Carts and the buffet was enjoyed by everyone. We booked the A La Carts through our concierge without any problem. We enjoyed the beach, the wildlife, the pools, the beautiful trails throughout the resort, the lagoon, the swim up bar and beach bars during the day and the lobby bar and sky bar at night. One of the activities that we really have enjoyed with each visit has been the lazy river. One thing that we noticed this time is that many of the clear comfortable tubes have been replaced with very large less comfortable black tubes. My only hope is that when we come back next year, the management team will have more of the clear tubes for our fun lazy river experiences. We will be returning to this resort, which has become our favourite resort in the Mayan Riviera.

When we first arrived, our room had an awful smell. We had to be switched not only rooms but buildings away from our friends. We got moved to another building that water supply had not worked for 24 hours. We asked at front desk why would you moved us from a bad situation to another. We then again asked to be moved back to the building with our friends. So we moved 3x. Food was horrific always cold- Lines for the food was unmanaged.

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Superb experience!
We had a great time In Grand Sirenis @Cayo Sta Maria Cuba! It was our first time going away for March break. From the time we booked with Tripcentral, with the our agent Ash, he was very helpful! It was very easy and flawless. We are a family of 6 kids ages ranging from 6-18yo. They had the best time! Resort was clean, staff were great, beach was EXCELLENT! Couldn't have asked for a better beach and our room view was the best! Food was okay, as per other reviews that said it was the worst. It really isn't. Just don't go with high expectations that they gonna serve you with steaks and lobsters. I mean, not all the food they served was for me or for my kids but we were all full after eating at their buffet. I would go back there in a heartbeat!!!

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Stunning resort. Definitely going back!
I can’t say enough good things about this resort. The view, the food, the rooms, the food(Yes, I said food twice, it was amazing), the staff, the shows. Almost all 5 stars across the board. A few hiccups to mention first - 1) I paid extra for an ocean view room, but fellow travellers who did not pay for ocean view got free upgrades to views much better than mine. Minor inconvenience, really, just worth mentioning. 2) no matter how much I tipped, our housekeeper did a “good” job but we didn’t get any of the cute extra touches (think towel animals and decorative touches) that our friends got (though they didn’t tip) and on the one day that I was in a rush and forgot to tip, our bathroom waste didn’t get emptied and was quite ripe by the next day. (Toilet paper cannot get flushed, “cottage rules” were in effect) Our towels and bath mat were taken and not replaced and it was a bit of an effort to get new ones. If there’s more than 2 people staying in your room, bring your own towels and beach towels. 3) one of the theatre bartenders, whose name I did not get, spent every evening on his phone and not only refused to serve us but on the first occasion he put his hand up in a “talk to the hand” gesture and walked away. The second time I tried to address him (days later) he looked me in the eye, said “nope” and pointed to his coworker Rogelio who was very professionally handling all of the thirsty people at the theatre every evening. 4) despite reading so many reports to the contrary, cash is NOT king. Both of my excursions had to be paid for with credit card and were charged USD at an almost 40% markup over what I planned to pay in Canadian funds. That hurt. 5) AirTransat flight schedules are a joke and we missed our entire first day as the flight was late in the evening and we didn’t get checked in until 2:00AM, despite the plane landing around 8:30PM. 6) the departing flight - we had to check out 10.5 hours and leave the resort 5 hours before our flight departure time and spent 3 hours at the tiny airport sitting in a room with almost no food options. Save some snacks for the airport wait on the way home! Rum is cheaper at the airport than at the resort, and price fluctuates at the airport depending on which store you go into (there were 3 or 4 selling rum and cigars). So many insect bites from the airport - save some bug spray for the trip home. Now on to the great stuff!!! We went to the theatre every evening and most were wonderful and enjoyable shows. The bartenders (with the exception of cranky man) were amazing. Special shout-out to Rogelio, who made the evenings special. He always wore a smile and a professional attitude, even when he was left to do all the work by himself. If anyone goes to the evening shows, tell Rogelio that Julie says hi! Just to show you the special touches, one evening he noticed I wasn’t ordering any drinks. I mentioned that my tummy was upset and he suggested a bit of brandy to settle it. Wouldn’t you know it - he fixed me right up! Kudos, my friend! The disco wasn’t open while we were there, but Mitch stayed after each show to mingle and make sure everyone knew that there were activities by the beach and pool each day to keep them entertained. I didn’t spend a lot of time on the beach, but the 2 days I spent there, I truly enjoyed the views and the sun. There was a slight breeze each day which made the hot sun easier to handle. I would have liked a few more options of shaded seating, but it was such a minor issue that it hardly warrants mention. The lobby pool was immaculately clean, and it was so fun to have the staff teaching dances and playing music. Yosvic is a top-tier bartender and made our stay so fun!! On the last day we had Eduardo filling in and he was awesome as well. The rumour mill was full of people complaining about the lack of toilet paper, so we went prepared. I am pleased to report, however, that there was only one occasion when there was no tp, and I’ve had worse odds here in Canada! Bring your roll, just in case, but don’t be scared! Now on to the food. Man, oh man, the food. First of all, I admit, I was scared. I booked this vacation almost a year prior, and since then I have seen reports of shortages and hoarding and lack of food. I am a total foodie and spending a week hungry was going to ruin my vacation. BUT… wow, the food! Yes… there were a few days where “traditional” protein options were shy, but there was always plenty of rice, beans, seafood and alternative proteins. I ate calamari 4 or 5 times, fresh grilled, and it was AMAZING. The hoarding is real, and those people should be ashamed of themselves. I witnessed families of 4 scooping up 3 entire plates of chicken breasts and then leaving most of them uneaten on their table when they left. Pork chops were getting scooped up by the dozen and it was all very uncalled for. Pancakes, even, hoarded and then discarded. If it wasn’t for the waste and hoarding, there would have been plenty of food for everyone. There was pasta, salads, so many salad dressings, desserts for miles, juice and fruit. I lost 5 lbs while on vacation not because of the lack of food, but because of the abundance of healthy options!! I left every meal quite full and happy. I can say with 100% certainty that anyone who complains about the lack of food is just lacking in the ability to adapt to one’s environment. If you go here expecting “American food”, you will be disappointed. But if you show up with an empty belly and a willingness to eat local fare, you will not be disappointed in the least!! Tip from the trenches- pumpkin was available at almost every meal, in many forms, and it is a wonderful way to prevent the tummy upset that seems to affect so many travellers worldwide. Look up “the Mediterranean Diet” before you go so you’re prepared. All in all, my week at Grand Sirenis was truly enjoyable. Right up there with experiences I’ve had in Punta Cana and Jamaica, even. Would I go back again? 100%, without hesitation. Sign me up!

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Average resort!
Beach : Great! Food: Mediocre - husband got salmonella! Service : Good at the A la carte restaurants, otherwise poor. Room : Family suite was great (size wise) but moldy smell and old (for example the headboard was moldy and extremely dirty). Waterpark : half of it was closed down for repairs Overall good value for what we paid for I guess… but I wouldn’t recommend it!

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Paradise
The Grand Sirenis is a beautiful resort. It is a very large resort with lots of pools and plenty of beach. Lots of loungers in the sun and in the shade to accommodate everyone. The restaurants were amazing with a wide variety of foods for different palates. The lobby bar made the best drinks and had the best bartenders and servers. There was a wide variety of activities including tennis, pickleball, soccer, biking, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, etc. There was lots of wildlife on the property, too: spider monkeys, koatis, raccoons, etc. and even domestic cats. A free dolphin show completed our enjoyable experience. Housekeeping kept our room impeccably clean.

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Exceeded my expectations
The service at this resort from front dest to wait staff was outstanding. Our room was modern, great AC and ceiling fan, large shower which always had hot water and our mini fridge stacked with beer and bottles of water. Air Canada sponsored a poolside dinner for all who travelled with them. Champagne, steak and Lobster with two extremely talented singers who dazzled us with songs from Adele, Elton John, the Bee Gees etc… great night. The other five nights we had a la carte dinners. One at the Italian, 2 at the Cuban and 2 at the French. The buffet was large and there was an array of veggies, fruit , cheese and bread plus numerous pasta, meat and fish dishes. There is a grill by the quiet pool open 1-3. We usually had lunch there. An open air restaurant with bar service. Three menu items..chicken & rice with side salad, fish & rice with side salad or a panini sandwich. Always delicious. Over by the party pool is another snack bar with bar service , you can get pizza, hot dogs and hot chicken sandwiches, I only had the sandwich one time and it hit the spot. Numerous bars scattered throughout the property . Our room was in the main building which was perfect and close to everything. No issues with pool or beach chairs. Beach is absolutely stunning and very large. I’ve been to Cuba 30+ times and was definitely concerned about some of the reviews I was reading and worried about the shortages mentioned over and over. Hands down this is the best resort staff, beach and room wise . The food was no different than any other time I’ve been in Cuba.

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Some highlights, some lowlights!
We chose this resort after visiting its Mexico sister property a few years back. This one was a disappointment by comparison. Go to the Maya Rivera instead! The highlights; great beach, nice pool, lots of chairs. The lowlights: food was terrible with very little food safety protocols, the property is aging, family suite rooms are very small and not great for a family, and there are a lot of families and a lot (a lot of kids) there. Overall, if you can get this for a good deal and don’t care about decent food, then it’s fine. If you are looking for something a bit more vacation-y, then keep looking.

Loved the wildlife. Buffets and ala carts were good. Ice cream was so delicious, many different flavors. Loved stopping at tge cafe bar with iced coffee and a dessert. Sky bar was lots of fun. Lots of walking but was good exercise and there were shuttles to take if you wanted too.

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Ok resort
Poor room service. Food service was good. Sunwing cayo rooms should invest more into their rooms. For example our shower drain wasn’t draining. TV not working. Phone never worked. Head board is falling apart. Curtains were half ripped, dragging on the floor. Very poor internet. Hallway switch light wasn’t working. Very dark in closets, couldn’t see anything. Had to use my flashlight on my phone to be able to see. We don’t usually complain about our vacations but this one was over the top.
